July is disability pride month & I wanted to post a poem I wrote two weeks ago about some of my experiences as someone who is disabled. I also wanted to shed some light on some of the ableism I’ve experienced, how it’s affected me, & my struggle with disability pride. I have an incredibly deep shame & guilt about my experiences of being discriminated against & about being disabled in general. I and many others have suffered in silence and that is why disability pride is needed.

To my fellow disabled people you deserve to talk about your experiences, you don’t deserve the shame and guilt others have given you. You deserve to love yourself and define your experiences for yourself without others' unsolicited input. You deserve much more than what others have given you.

And to the nondisabled people, this is why you need to listen to those of us that experience these things. Those of us who are disabled live a life you have never seen or experienced and most of you never will. It doesn't matter if you have a disabled family member or friend or coworker, etc. You have not and probably never will experience what they have. You will never truly be able to understand their experiences on the same level as other disabled people can. You will never be that eleven-year-old. Think before you speak and educate yourself on our issues(and by educate I mean get your education from disabled people only, not those speaking over us or "on our behalf"). We fucking matter and we deserve to be proud and live a life without suffering. Stop contributing to the problem.

Also mobility aids aren't a bad thing, stop treating them like they are.

Happy disability pride month, even though it can still be hard to feel proud.

🥐𝗠𝗢𝗢𝗗𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗 & 𝗦𝗡𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗧🥐 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 - 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆 We sat at the local café in my neighborhood. Sipping on overpriced coffee and nibbling on equally expensive croissants. The sweet, buttery aroma of the croissants mixed with the rich, earthy scent of the coffee created a tantalizing symphony for our senses. “This coffee is pretty tasty. Only cost me an arm and a leg,” I said, savoring each sip. “I know, right? And these croissants? Heaven in pastry form,” Ardit said, dusting off crumbs from his lips. “Wow,” I said, “tone it down, dude.” “What?” Ardit laughed. “Heaven in pastry form,” I snickered. “Really?” “When you’re as hungry as we are, yes.” He said, “It was a long car ride.” “We still have a long journey ahead of us,” I reminded him. “We have to go to the Faerie Realm.” “I know,” Ardit said, setting down his cup. “But we have magic on our side.” He closed his eyes and held out his hand, conjuring a small, sparkling orb of light. “Show-off.” “Hey, I have to keep my skills sharp,” Ardit said, shrugging. The café buzzed with chatter and clinking of silverware, but Ardit and I sat in our own little world, the weight of our journey temporarily forgotten. As we finished the pastries and drained the last drops of our coffee, the spell of the café broke. Reality set in and the weight of our journey returned. “Ready?” I asked, standing up and shouldering my backpack. “As ready as I’ll ever be,” Ardit said, joining me. Belief is the elixir of dreams, In the shadow of looms, Bathing in faith is embracing ethereal serenity, Leading you with inscrutable intuition, Beyond the worldly illusion, The cosmic reality that we see. Across the sands of the dee, My freedom was like a cold-pressed coffee. The sour beans of gloom laid their icy hands over my ebullience, It is pronounced to remain hungry while searching for a home, The quest for life was submissive under the loneliness of gloam. It is the complexity of the human soul, That keeps you hungry for more. And when you are about to give in, Rays of sun-like an omnipresent guardian angel, Plants the seed of hope in you within, Time, the rite of passage of light, At that moment, Like an epiphany struck me. I was the leash that was holding me from being free. Being too attached to the elusive aroma of comfort, Expectations of my dreams turning true, Was like writing postcards to the dead And breathing in love that forever read. Caskets of desires need to be filled, With pennies of belief and hard work. And when you do that, The magic of the universe works. The sudden movement of objects of life is labeled change. Change your actions to alter your verity. Dreams brew in hopeful hearts, Ones that believe magic exists, Are the ones that taste life’s serendipity. There's a part of me that wants to try my hand at remaking writersaroundtheworld kind of...

But like.

With an associated website that makes negotiating posts easier.

I feel there's a lot more freedom when I'm building websites on bubble than there is just making a blog and using pages. A looot more organization potential.

But like.

Every time I've tried remaking that blog, it fails and I feel disappointed because I feel it's such an exciting and wonderful idea, both for writers and just for people that love to learn about other cultures.

For those of you that don't know what writersaroundtheworld was (probably most of you), I used to run a blog where people could submit different information about their country of origin for writers that may want to write about or write cultures based off of real cultures... it was a place where people could just talk about their home countries and give information that people otherwise may not have discovered. Directly from residents of said country.
