How did you mimic the yugioh zexal style? I want to start practicing and I have no idea where to start. How did you study?

First off, thank you!! :,) 💕💕💕💕 plz dont mind that im gonna be using hyperbolic objective language to explain this so i 😭😭

Well. How did I study?? You’re gonna hate it, but there’s literally no other way around it.

Copying it.

HEAR ME OUT: That’s just how learning works. That’s how learning any style ever works. If you’re trying to draw in a particular art style, you have to learn how it’s drawn. And the only way really understand to do that, is by trying to recreate it almost exactly. WHICH YEAH, this is an internet space, once you say the work “copy” next to art suddenly you have no skill or are doing something inherently immoral just on principle. Which is just a really bad faith read. It’s a lot like “master studies” in art classes, where students have to recreate the same drawing/work from some previous artist and try to get it as close as possible to the original. Which seems dumb at first, but it’s not without a point- y’know?

As a wack teenager, I used to practice trying to “master” the look of the zexal style by drawing on paper a loooot. At the time I didn’t know how to draw digitally (i didn’t have access to a lot of things). Zexal model sheets were rare if almost nonexistent, so I could only use the anime. I must’ve did a decent enough job since to this day my old art floats around with no one realizing that some idiot teenager drew them in her room. I just really wanted to learn it for some reason. Honestly, I blocked out most of my life from that era, so I can barely remember my own reasoning.

So I think I’d suggest, at least since the resources are much more readily available now, to refer to the model sheets and probably try redrawing what you see in those. I don’t have the old sketches anymore, but back then on my own time, I’d try recreating stuff like this as I saw it:

Or, HECK!!! If there’s an art style from particular episodes you like a lot, try referring to those and use that. There’s a ton of elements in the model sheets I don’t much care for, or elements applied by certain animation directors I like more than others that I’ll incorporate into my own work. So in the end you kind of do learn more about your own style and tastes. BUT, I personally wouldn’t jump straight into this right away. Maybe just keep it in mind until u get comfier.

THIS post that illustrates what I mean visually in regards to different directors and their styles a little better lmao. They’re all “on model” but u can tell them apart despite using the same “style.”

SCREENSHOT REDRAWS are a more fun kind of practice!! When I was in the more active learning stage I’d often try redrawing my favorite shots on paper and try to get as close as feasibly possible. I only did that because I wanted to learn it.

Nowadays, I just target weirder looking shots because. Lmao. You know 😩 after years of learning what I like in the style … … it’s a fun self challenge

Screenshot redraws are also just good practice for me even when I’m just goofing. Because when I’m not actively practicing, my muscle memory starts to fail me.

Or, if you aren’t directly recreating an existing image and still want to practice, I’d suggest keeping the model sheets (or whatever influence u refer to) with you and try drawing within the realms set up. References are your friends and wanna help u. Even the best homies out there will use them, plz don’t undersell them. You aren’t any better or worse for using them 😭

AFTER A GOOD WHILE OF DOING THAT SORT OF THING you’ll probably get a feel for it a lot more. Then, as per how art works, the style will shift more into your own take on it, and then you can just do whatever you want and take your personal liberties as u see fit

OH RIGHT, DIGITAL OR TRADITIONAL??? …Idk. When i was learning i always drew on paper (mostly due to circumstance). It varies from person to person on which is more “effective,” but I don’t think it ultimately matters lol

hi!! i’d love to request a bnha matchup if that’s okay! my zodiacs are snake and pisces, i’m an infj, i’m a boy and i’m gay. i really like reading and i do a lot of it, and honestly i like almost any genre. fantasy, true crime, young adult, poetry, classic, i don’t care. if it’s good i’ll read it! i also really like video games although i have this problem where i’ll play them nonstop for hours and days and then not touch my consoles for a couple weeks and then do it all again. i love stuffed animals and i collect them!! and cuddle them. because they deserve it

i really like anime! clearly. um ;; i think my favorites type is anything that looks really cute but is actually really dark. ex. madoka magica, school live, magical girl raising project, etc. but my heart can only take so much dark, and my favorite anime of all time is love live, especially love live sunshine. tbh i’m more of a manga reader than anime watcher. i really like the toilet bound hanako-kun manga!!

i don’t trust people very easily tbh, and i get uncomfortable when people are nice to me because i automatically assume they’re using me or don’t actually like me. i get really paranoid that everyone secretly hates me. just Trauma Things. i try to be nice to everyone but some people are just Actually Terrible and i won’t even pretend i like them. i don’t pretend i like people, it’s stupid and a waste of time and if i don’t like someone they will Know. but!! again i try to be nice to people and generally i am! that being said i don’t really like being around people if i can help it, except for people im really really really close to in which case all i want to do is be around them. i’m very physically affectionate although my main love language is quality time!!

i want to work in a library someday and also write a book someday! i play the piano, i love music but my music taste is pretty much classical and whatever my partner likes lmao. i’m kind of very sensitive though and am kind of a crybaby, so like,, i would appreciate someone who can be gentle with their words because i can and will cry if they aren’t. i’m also very defensive over my intelligence because im an ex gifted kid and based my whole personality around being smart when i was a kid so now if my intelligence is challenged i get upset. im definitely a dumbass outside book smarts though lmao i cant even make grilled cheese. i don’t know how to use a toaster oven. life skills? nope. dont have any of those. also i love learning new languages! i can speak english greek and japanese because of that

Disclaimer: this is written entirely from my own personal fandom experience. And I'm a leech. I only produce like 2 fics a year, if that, but most of my time is spent reblogging other ppls work. So my experiences are very limited. This is just my perception of fandom, which is probably super far off from what it actually is. Don't take any of this personally.

(And I'm purposefully leaving out discussion of memes. I know memes are an important part of any tumblr community. But memes are not a fandom exclusive thing. So they're not gonna be counted here.)

Anyway.

It's so hard for me to get into fandoms for LAC (live action content)

Like I loved Spn. Been a while since I caught up with the episodes but I liked it well enough. I love the MCU. I'm getting into Lucifer. The source content is great/cool/fine but the fandoms do nothing for me, art-wise. It's not the quality in question. Ppl make pretty fanart of live-action stuff. But it's not good enough for me.

I can only actually give a fuck abt the fandoms of C/A (cartoon and anime) bc like. The fan art is just different. Not inherently better or higher-quality. It's not that. It's just that the fan artists for LAC make a different type art for their shows than weebs do for their C/A

Like weeb artists doodle and sketch and put out art content at hyper speed with big detailed pieces once a month/every couple of months. Based on my experiences LAC fanartists seem to do big art pieces every now and again but most fan content for LAC comes in the form of fanfic, edits, and gifsets.

And I just dont give a fuck abt those last two. Stream endless pics of varying style right into my brain at a speed fast enough to break the sound barrier. I dont wanna look at gif sets. I saw that stuff in the show. If I wanted to see it again I'd just rewatch the episode/whole show. I get that C/A fandoms also do this but not as often as LAC fandom, in my experience.

Like LAC fandoms just do art differently than C/A and maybe it's bc C/A fandom has source content that is already art so it's easier for it to be art based. But like? Why do only C/A fanartists make thousands of fanart pieces and LAC fanartists don't?

Do you have any idea how much more fun it would be to be in LAC fandoms if there were more sketchy/doodley/scribbley art? That artists just kept pumping out day after day after day? It feels like for every one piece of LAC fanart there are 20 pieces of C/A fanart to rival it. Going into the tag for a LA show yields sooooo little fanart compared to the tag for C/A which is almost 70% art.

And listen. I've got ADHD. The kind that makes reading a bitch. A chore. I have to save up so much energy just to read a one shot or one chapter. And that's only if it's under a certain word limit. Just looking at a word limit of 8k or more makes me need to take a nap. I would love to read more fic. Fic is awesome. My brain won't fucking let me. It only cares abt visuals. So a fandom that is 60% fic (something I can rarely do), 30% gifsets and edits (something I dont care abt), and only 10% fanart (the good shit I come to fandom for) is just. Boring.

Whereas C/A fandom is like pretty equal on the fic to art ratio, if not more art heavy. Which is great. I can get what I need from C/A fandoms.

Just. All in all. Can LAC fandoms plz. Just. Do art the way C/A fandoms do. I remember the days of deviantART when LAC was given the anime treatment. Bring it back. Plz. For my ADHD having ass.

(Another note. I do not expect this to get popular cuz I only have like 30 followers, most of which I think are inactive now. But if it does. Somehow. Plz dont discourse here. There's no discourse to be found. You would literally be pulling shit out of your ass and making something out of nothing. There is no hill to die on. This is a field smoother than a flatline on the heart monitor of a dead person. I am not dissing on LAC fandoms. I'm saying that C/A fandoms provide for me what LAC fandoms never have been able to. Which is not an insult. Every time I go into the tag for a LA series/ship from a LA series it's mostly fic or gifsets/edits. And I just. Can't. Do that. I can't read fic bc my brain hates me and gifsets are boring to me. None of this is meant to be insulting. It's just my personal experience with fandom. Maybe I just don't follow the right ppl. Maybe I'm using the wrong search words/tags. I dunno. Anyway, there is no discourse here.)

I’d definitely tell people. At first I wouldn’t know how, and id contemplate if its important enough to tell or not, but eventually i would. id start with those close to me. idk if id want to tell everyone. id want to travel a damn lot with those i love. go new places, try new things, build as many memories as possible. because hell yeah id be afraid. I’m terrified of death and the afterlife; not knowing what happens after we pass.

kinda a big one, especially for myself lately. um. I think a great relationship has a good foundation. because in the end, every relationship faces struggles and is gonna be “tested”, for lack of a better word. and what can we turn back to when we feel things arent where they need to be? the foundation. its like a house; if somethings wrong with it, but the foundation is still sturdy, its probably possible and worth fixing. if the foundation is cracked, its more risky; if the foundation is completely crushed, then its probably not a great relationship anymore.

i have that crazy urge to travel like a crazy person rn, so if i only had one free plane ticket, i’d go somewhere i otherwise couldnt right now, like italy. i really want to go to italy one day.

...actually yes! I was severely dehydrated once and my mom had me drink 3 bottles of water back to back. then we got in the car and as she started driving, i got sick, so she pulled over and i sat there getting ready to vomit when a cop pulled over and was like “hey, you okay?” and my mom just explained i was sick, and as he walked over to look at me thats when i threw up ALLLLL that water. he stepped back so quick and was all like “do you want me to call an ambulance?”. it was great. thats how you get rid of cops. throw up in front of them (sarcasm)

Yup! ive flown to new hampshire and kansas before.
