bitches b like "science is boring" as if horror and gore and blood and the visceral could exist without biology, as if cosmic horror could exist without the cosmos, as if the fear of the paranormal could exist without the knowledge of the normal found in a basic understanding of physics, and as if the witnessing of how radiation splices through and shatters celluar DNA and the suffering of a radiation wound that only grows is not any more scary than a three eyed dog.

sometimes i wonder how the faculty at backupsmore felt about ford. like can you imagine being at some super duper mid university and some-fucking-how ending up with this one student who is essentially an unstoppable force of nature in human form, determined to study pretty much everything ever, with the work ethic of a robot. word gets out that he was rejected from west coast tech and all the backupsmore faculty are supremely pissed off because god dammit maybe wct would have been able to handle this absolute madman.

Errr osnf spoilers up to the end of episode 3! There be all sorts of nasty here, but nothing outside of canon. A very quick and dirty ficlet.
Blood soaks the grass, the walls, the trees. Corpses upon corpses lie across the ground; Daniel, eyes gone; Alex, his head blasted apart; Gonzales, warped as a blood zombie; Chris, torn to shred… All of them and more, corpses covered in blood as a monster feasts upon them.
It towers over her, made of a thousand limbs and claws and teeth. Its mouths defy logic and reason, but eat the flesh before it all the same. Black, pulsating, terrible…
Liz is crushed by her mother's corpse, where she cannot see it but feels every splattering of blood. From her position she stares upon the wasteland, the oblivion and destruction all around. Thiago, if he is here, is nowhere to be seen.
Joui and Cesar stand in the middle. Joui is on his knees, clutching an arm as blood streaks down his face. Cesar is beside him, immobile, frozen, hands and arms dripping with his father's blood. The monster does not care for her, hidden in corpses and mist as she is, but it cares a great deal for the two men frozen there.
It turns, and bounds towards them.
She yells at them to run, to get out, to save themselves. She begs, she screams, she cries, yet no matter what she does she can only watch as they remain frozen, coated in blood, sobbing and in pain as the monster bares down upon them.
Liz cannot look away.
Her eyes remain fixed on the monster, on the men, as they finally start to flee - Joui draped over Cesar's arm - but it is too late! Too late! Too late! The monster is here, it is come, it grabs both of them at once, shoves them both into separate mouths. She can only watch and scream in horror as they are eaten - alive. Cesar head first, and yet she can still hear him scream. Joui legs first, where she is helpless to act as she watches the pain on his face.
She sobs and she screams and finally the monster notices her. With the two men still only half eaten it strides over, plucking her from beneath her mother's corpse. In one sweeping motion she is thrown from a clawed hand into an open, gaping mouth.
---
Liz wakes up.
She cannot catch her breath, cannot breath. Without thinking she grabs her flashlight, not even stopping for her slippers as she runs from the room. Behind her, she hears Thiago ask what is wrong - she does not care.
She runs down the hallway, to the room where she knows the two men are. Without a key all she can do is hammer on the door, yelling their names as tears start to streak again.
Familiar, too familiar, she knows it is a dream but is haunted still.
It does not take long for a bleary eyed Joui to open the door.
"Liz-senpai?" he asks. "What's wrong?"
Immediately she grabs him, pulling him into a tight hug. Her chest eases a little as she looks around, spying the light of Cesar's computer. He is not looking at it, but rather at her.
It's too much, she needs him.
Joui is pushed into the room, and onto Cesar's bed. She sits herself between the men, one arm around Joui's shoulder and the other across Cesar's back.
Both are bandaged, neither is fine, but they are here. They are still here.
Thiago follows her, their room key in his hand and a his phone used as a torch. He looks around, frowns, and pulls all three into a hug of his own.
"Is everything alright?" he asks her.
"Just a dream," she replies, finally able to breathe. "Don't worry, it was just a dream."

Sometimes I look in the corner of a cartoon and/or comic and notice how cool the background art really is. So, I did an art style challenge with a character and background that included interior and plant life. And what better scene than Fitz in the preservatorium!
Starting with his original style from Legend Catcher:

Then onward with some of my favorites growing up!

Now with a couple of my current favorites.

Flat vs lighting for this one. In this series they don't used many shadows were as in the movie they do, including rim lighting!

Exploring the different (digital) painting techniques for backgrounds was so interesting and I learned a lot! Textures, colors, shapes, and layout were all things I had to keep in mind. Background art is art, and gorgeous art at that. Give it a try!

On a scale of 1-10 how good of an Archivist, Avatar of the Eye, would you rate yourself?
me and my irrational belief that I am being observed 24/7 like my own little panopticon, in which I am both jailed and jailor, which has been a thing in my head since birth, so much so that it is no longer cause of fear but instead of a sort of comfort? If the fears were real Jonah Magnus would kill to be me. I'm the eye's specialest man now. a solid 9/10 because I'm still mentally normal and sane though

Case study: searching for the Colt Pixie
In January 2022, whilst researching for the first few episodes of The Wyrd Side, Finn and I travelled to “Cold Pixies Cave” on Beaulieu Heath - where Aiden and Kitty ended up after emerging from the fog.
We were searching for the Colt Pixie, the subject of our dynamic duo’s first investigation, local to the low lying heathland of the New Forest in the south of the UK.
Tumblr media
The Colt - or sometimes Cold - Pixie takes the form of a ragged and pale pony, akin to the many hardy ponies found roaming loose across the heathland. Similar to many Will O’the Wisp stories, it seems to be more mischievous than malevolent, luring livestock and the occasional traveller into the many peat bogs across the New Forest.
We were looking for it around “Cold Pixies Cave”, theorised to have been renamed from “Colt Pixie” in the Victorian era following a typo on a survey map. This is where Aiden and Kitty end up after hiking through the unnaturally thick and disorienting fog in Episode 2, and is, contrary to the name, not actually a cave but a Bronze Age barrow, an ancient burial ground excavated in 1941 during the construction of RAF Beaulieu airfield.
Tumblr media
I’m sorry to report that we encountered no strange activity while we were out there. Plenty of ponies were scattered around the area, but despite our searching and generally helpless nature, no Colt Pixie tried to lure us off the path.
Perhaps the weather was too fine, or maybe we carried too few apples in our bags to be interesting to the Pixies. Another likelihood is that we did actually encounter one amongst the small ponies, but it was too busy guarding the herd to bother leading us astray.
For now, however, both in the fiction of The Wyrd Side and in real life, the Colt Pixie remains elusive.

How do we talk about women, alive & dead?
It is Women's History Month! Time to revel in some fascinating gals AND ghosts! A HAUNTED HISTORY OF INVISIBLE WOMEN: TRUE STORIES OF AMERICA'S GHOSTS, available wherever books are sold, examines women's history through the lens of ghost lore, past and present. Those who were branded as "witches" or "madwomen", those who were relegated to specific roles and those who transcended and transgressed past them. This book is a unique exploration of femininity as a construct broken down and transformed by ghost lore.
Can you please share this post to help us find new readers? 🖤

CW // Witchcraft / Religion / Paranormal - LONG POST - I was listening to a podcast about paranormal and psychic stuff and the presenters said something that really got to me - in a positive way
They were talking about the Warrens and how they influenced the general idea we have nowadays about the spiritual world, specially about ghosts and demons, and how much of their teachings were heavily based on christian beliefs
So why did that get to me? Because I actually thought those things were true, without knowing they influenced by a belief system I'm not part of anymore, and that was creating a barrier in my spiritual journey (as I'm a beginner witch)
The presenters explained how the Warrens were very religious, from catholic households, and how the idea that "demons and ghosts are all evil and scary and will hurt you" came from that catholic belief they had. And as they got famous and had such a heavy influence on the paranormal and spiritual community, those ideas started to be seen as the truth
Things like "don't use a Ouija board or you'll open yourself to demons" or "don't use tarot cards because evil beings will get to you" and things like that, often related to some type of divination method, would be seen as real and 100% true and people would actually be scared of these practices
What is the problem with that? Well... the problem is that creating that fear about these practices and these spiritual beings is actually what makes them "get to you". They feed from that fear, they want you to be scared
If you use anything as a divination tool* (ghost equipment included) with the idea that "you will get spooky stuff" or "you will talk to a negative entity" or anything like that, the negative beings will use that
And I believed in that. A lot. But I didn't know why, because it was such a common sense thing that I didn't really thought about it much
But, as they were explaining on the podcast, if you put your intention, while using the divination tool, into something positive, without being scared of it and only allowing positive beings to talk to you, bad stuff won't happen
I'm not saying that everybody should try divination out of nowhere.
Even tho it might sound easy to just "be positive and do it", it's not like that. If you wanna try divination you should learn how to do it properly and how to protect yourself spiritually. However, being scared of divination tools will only make things worse if you come to use one in the future.
And listening to that episode of the podcast is what made me actually realize that I didn't (and shouldn't) be scared of doing divination, and it helped me break some of the barriers I had in my spiritual journey
* Divination Tool? Divination Tools are objects or tools used to communicate with the spiritual world in many ways, such as talking to deities/entities/spirits, predicting the future, interpreting dreams, etc.
They can be objects designed specifically for that (like, tarot cards, Ouija boards, oracle cards, crafted pendulums, etc.) or be made with normal daily objects (like dice, stones with runes, necklaces as pendulums, etc.) and can be used for more simple answers, as yes/no questions, or more complex answer, like the meaning of a tarot card. Both options require interpretation, as they're often not direct answers
Ghost equipment can be considered a divination tool since they're often used by the ghost hunters to get answers from the entities in a haunted location. For example:
Yes/No answers with flashlights
Yes/No answer with REM-POD
Yes/No answers through Music Box (motion sensor)
Answers through the Spirit Box
Answers through the ghost recorders
NOTE: I'm not an expert witch, always check your information on multiple sources.

You know, I think it's such a funny constellation. Azzy in itself can throw such childish temper tantrums whenever its favorite pet is in danger or gets hurt, and its reactions are entirely disproportional when it comes down to that. However, I actually HC it as fairly chill and laid back 95% of the time. It has such immense world ending/reality altering power, but it usually cannot be bothered to use them to their full extent, it's fairly happy playing fucked up mind games and easy snacking on your standard mental trauma. But then you got Lance, the human who's actually fairly fragile/in bad shape physically and mentally and who up until meeting Collingwood/Az didn't even believe in the paranormal or anything else. But he's sooooo stubborn, so spiteful and filled with sooooooo much anger that it's actually him you gotta watch out for. Because it's him who might just wreck the uttermost shit with Azzy's powers, and might just do some of it by complete accident. I do believe that eventually, especially in my symbiont verse, Lance might actually have a higher kill count than Aza/thoth. Just because he loathes the ever loving crap out of monsters and terrible people, and wants them straight up yeeted out of existence. I do have the HC that generally, Azzy doesn't quite want people/creatures to be straight up dead. It likes to keep toying with things and shaping their traumas and powers to its liking, until it has a perfect snack that it can cherish. The way it didn't straight up kill anyone in canon, but drove people mad first. Lance though just straight up wants some people/creatures dead. And that fast and without mercy. So he uses its physical and destructive powers far more often than it does, and not always consciously, but subconsciously/naturally. It's a fun combination.
