Jack sighed as Maryse declined his call again. It’s been a month since that incident with Nate happened. The next morning Maryse didn’t want to talk about it, stating she was fine. Jack knew she was lying, but didn’t want to push her.

Things seemed to be okay for a few weeks but recently Maryse has been avoiding him. She would decline his calls and if the off chance she did answer she would rush him off the phone saying she had to get back to rehearsals for her shows she had coming up at the Apollo Theater.

Jack was afraid that if she continued on this path of keeping things herself that she was going to blow up one day. He hated seeing her like this. It doesn’t help that he’s in LA right now while she’s home in NY.

“Jack, why are you rushing back to New York, we literally need you in Boston for New Balance by tomorrow afternoon!” Neelam said as she interrupted his thoughts. Jack needed to see Maryse now, he couldn’t let this go on any longer.

“I’m going to see Maryse, I’ll go straight to Boston as soon as I’m done. I promise.” He responded as he continued to pack his backpack, deciding to only take essentials.

He ignored Neelam's sigh at the mention of his girlfriend. “Jack…” she started but he immediately interrupted her. “Don’t wanna hear it.”

“Jack, just hear me out! I love Maryse but your career is very important. This is a huge year for you, you can’t just drop everything for some girl, you’ve only been dating for 3 months! And don’t think I haven’t noticed her ignoring your calls…”

Jack pulled his hoodie over his head, and took a deep breath before replying. “It’s been five months.” Neelam rolled her eyes.

“I’m not dropping everything for some girl, she’s my girlfriend and a Grammy award winner, might I add.”

He continued as Neelam folded her arms in front of him. “She’s going through something right now and needs me. I’ve been running around nonstop, and haven’t missed an appearance. Boston is hardly an hour flight away from NY. I will be back in time for the NB event.”

Only thing Neelam could do was sigh, knowing she wasn’t going to change his mind. “Ok. Fine. You better be back in time.”

He gave a simple nod as he slung his backpack over his shoulders and headed towards the door. “Gotcha.”

As he walked out the door he turned around to say one last thing. “Oh, and Neelam?”

“Yeah?” She questioned.

“You’re going to respect my girlfriend, she’s here to stay. This weird energy you have towards her is going to stop.” He closed the door behind him, not giving Neelam time to react as she stood there with her mouth open.

“That sounded great guys, let's take a 30!” Maryse told her band with a smile. She was currently rehearsing for her shows the following weekend at the iconic Apollo Theater to celebrate her debut album.

Once everyone left the room she sat at the piano and she began playing around with some chords that had been in her head for a couple days.

She silently sighed as her fingers moved across the keys, the more she played the more she started thinking about Jack. He didn’t deserve how she was treating him and made a silent vow to call him when he left rehearsals.

“I haven't slept since Sunday…” she began singing the first thing that came to mind. She wished Jack was with her right now.

“Midnight for me is 3:00 a.m. for you. But my sleepless nights are better with you than nights could ever be alone.” Maryse hadn’t slept properly since the night of her release party, having dreams about Nate, she knew the only thing that would fix this would be opening up about with Jack.

“I was good at feeling nothing, now I'm hopeless. What a drag to love you like I do”

Fuck it. She thought as she pulled her phone out, dialing Jack’s number. He of course answered on the first ring, she spoke before he could even speak. “I love you so much, I’m sorry for ignoring your calls, we can talk about everything when I get home, okay?” She bit her lip as it was silent on the other line.

“I love you too.” Maryse gasped as she heard his voice from behind her. Turning around, Jack was leaning against the doorway, phone pressed against his ear.

She immediately jumped up from her place at the piano and skipped towards him. “What are you doing here?” Maryse questioned as she pulled him closer to her, pressing her face into his chest and smelling his cologne.

Jack just shook his head, and kissed the top of her head. “We can talk about it later. I just needed to see you.”

It was 10 pm when she got back home from rehearsals, she stripped as soon as she walked into the house. Walking into her room, Jack was spread across her bed, soft snoring leaving his mouth. She felt bad that he came all this way for her. Changing into one of his many shirts he’s left at her place, she climbed into bed next to him, pressing a kiss to his face.

Jack, being a light sleeper, woke up from the light kiss. “Hey” he said softly.

Maryse smiled at him, running a hand through his hair. “I’m sorry for ignoring your calls.”

Jack pulled her in closer next to him in bed. Maryse wrapping her legs around his own. “I guess I should explain myself.”

He nodded. “But only if you’re ready, I never wanna pressure you. I’m just worried about you.”

Maryse nodded and was silent as she continued playing with his hair. “I had been dating Nate since he was a senior in college. So I’ve known him for a really long time. You could say he was my first real relationship. Everything was really good for a long time, until we weren’t. But everything changed when he tore his pec during a playoff game.”

Jack stayed quiet, letting Maryse get her thoughts out.

“He was really upset and angry with himself for getting hurt. So he started drinking to cope, I would come home from the studio and he would be passed out drunk in the living room.”

Maryse took a pause before continuing, she hasn’t spoken about this to anyone in almost two years. “I watched alcohol turn the man I loved into a monster. We would argue all the time, every problem we faced steamed from his drinking.”

She didn’t realize it in the moment that she had closed her eyes as she spoke, thinking about the things he would say out of anger. “You’ll never make it in the industry.” “No one will listen to your music.” “No one will ever love you like I do”

“He would say the curliest things to me during arguments but he never once put his hands on me. That night at the release party was the first.” Maryse could feel herself getting overwhelmed and tears started forming in her eyes.

Jack immediately pulled her into his chest, bringing her closer than she already was. “I’m sorry.” Maryse said, pulling back and wiping her eyes. She grimaced seeing the tear stain on his shirt.

He shook his head, “This isn’t my favorite shirt.” Maryse couldn’t help but giggle and pinched his side.

“Not about that you idiot! Sorry, for putting you, and Urban for that matter in that position. You both could’ve gotten extremely hurt that night! Especially with how angry Nate was. That’s why I was ignoring your calls because I was really embarrassed after that night.” Maryse ended with a frown.

It was Jack’s turn to frown. “I’m going to stop you right there. One, you didn’t deserve any of that shit he put you through. I’m sorry that you had to deal with that, loving an addict is a hard and taxing job. Two, you’re worth defending. I’ll throw my last punch defending you. You’re my person, my peace. I’ll do anything to protect you.”

Hearing Jack reassure her made Maryse relax for the first time in weeks. She also couldn’t help the flutters she felt in her stomach at Jack calling her his person.

“I love you, Jack.”

Jack leaned forward and kissed her head, nose and finally a sweet kiss on her lips.

“I love you more. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you.”

Maryse pressed her lips against his lips one more time, happy he was here in her arms.

Jack let out a yawn. “Now, wrap your legs around me so I can go back to sleep. I have a flight to catch in 3 hours.”

She did just that, getting a full nights rest for the first time in weeks.

It was late afternoon in the courtroom, and it felt really boring. Nothing was happening; everyone was just being everyone, I guess. Oh, how do I even speak? And by the way, I'm no one in this story, so bear with me. I speak what I see.

Zhao Shuchai was one of the It girls of the school, if you will, someone that's like from mean girls, basically Regina but less mean; she's just a sassy bitch, and everyone finds her iconic and kind of crazy. Maybe cranky, I think.

She walked into the courtroom, and literally all eyes were on her. She was just sucking on a heart-shaped lollipop, though. It was all normal for her; if it were a normal student, they'd panic and probably pass out. 'ny ways Shuchae walked to two girls sitting at the highest part of the chairs watching the court room.

Shuchai sat down, and both girls looked at her. The girls were also well known; I guess you could call them an "It Trio" because at least everyone knows them. Even the teachers.

Shuchaes perspective -

I sit down and get the attention of Mori and Lana, who were just looking and glancing at the court; they weren't even paying attention; they just looked when everyone else screamed, a very boring activity.

Ever since she was a child, Agnes Andrews is a name made to be talked about. Barely out of high school and the girl was scouted by an agent when she was out shopping one day. The very look and presence of Agnes commands attention from anyone that is in a radius close enough to be lucky enough to catch sight of her. Being nineteen and being launched into the stratosphere overnight is a dream come true, but it’s also a lot. Agnes goes through phases of craving attention and companionship, a bestie, but it never ends well. She’s been burned too many times before. She can never really trust anyone and will always stab first. It’s kill or be killed and Agnes is already driving in the knife.

What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?

At the time of the original takedown, Agnes knew of Gossip Girl but she didn’t care enough about it at the time. She wasn’t one of the ones who were being constantly targeted. However this time round, she’s far more concerned. Agnes’ life is full of spilling out of seedy clubs and bars, going to sketchy places for parties. Drink, drugs, debauchery - it’s all there for the world to see but that’s only a fraction of what truly goes on.

Michael Starr makes the case for ‘Elementary’:

I was initially skeptical (so what else is new?) prior to watching “Elementary” on CBS. A show in which Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic British detective, Sherlock Holmes — the one we all know and love — never existed?

Please.

Oh, and we’re supposed to believe the Sherlock Holmes who exists in “Elementary” (Jonny Lee Miller) is, like Conan Doyle’s creation, a British-born recovering drug addict — only here he’s been transplanted to New York, where his brilliant deductive reasoning (and OCD) makes him an invaluable asset as a consultant to the NYPD?

Well . . . yes. I quickly bought into the premise lock, stock and barrel — and the series is terrific.

What makes “Elementary” so good — at least in the context of its suspending-belief TV universe — are the performances of its stars, both Miller and Lucy Liu, who plays Holmes’ sidekick, Dr. Joan Watson. She’s an ex-surgeon who abandoned medicine after an unfortunate incident and has morphed from Sherlock’s “sober companion” to his salaried crime-solving partner.

Their on-screen chemistry (no romantic overtones — yet) is palpable. Miller somehow imbues Holmes — arrogant and condescending — with just the slightest bit of vulnerability, making us like and admire him in spite of ourselves while Miller fires off his elaborate, florid dialogue effortlessly (or seemingly so).

Watson herself is no shrinking violet, softening Sherlock’s verbal blows with an “are you kidding me?” stance while, in her own sly way, getting all up into her partner’s grill — while respecting his ethereal brilliance.

The show is fun and fast-paced, in spite of its over-the-top plots, and features a winning supporting cast (Aidan Quinn as world weary NYPD Capt. Tommy Gregson and Jon Michael Hill as top-notch, slightly cynical Det. Marcus Bell).

Kudos to series creator Robert Doherty for adding a new wrinkle to a familiar pop-culture mainstay.

Sara Stewart makes the case for ‘Sherlock’:

I cringe at the term “Cumberbitch,” but I’m not going to lie — the impending arrival of the third season of “Sherlock” on Sunday does make me a bit teenage-girl-shrieky inside. As the BBC’s version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s quirky detective, Benedict Cumberbatch is so right for the part it’s almost painful to watch anyone else try (apologies to RDJ and Johnny Lee Miller).

It’s not (just) his aristocratic, weirdly reptilian good looks or the Alan Rickman-lite voice — Cumberbatch just exudes effortless, amused intelligence. He’s the embodiment of the high I.Q. of the show, whose banter is so quick a non-Brit would be well advised to watch with closed captioning on (I’m still not sure I got every word from the last two seasons).

In a world oversaturated with reboots, sequels and updates, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ creation is the rare worthwhile revisit: a contemporary rendition of the world’s greatest detective, meshing the utility of modern technology (texting often figures prominently) with a deliciously Victorian sense of leisure (Sherlock spends off hours at 221B Baker St. not on the Internet but playing the violin, doing questionable science experiments or just staring off into space).

And the rest of the cast is equally impeccable. Has there ever been a part more well-suited to the twitchy, double-takey Martin Freeman? (Well, other than “The Office”?) Marvel as his John Watson discovers Sherlock’s back from the dead; the scene is a thing of comic beauty. Then there’s his brother Mycroft, played to simpering perfection by Gatiss himself, who very nearly walks off with Sunday’s episode.

Plus, you have to respect a show that so clearly adores its obsessive audience right back: Sherlock’s return features not one but two fan-fictiony kisses between characters — which I’m not going to spoil for you, don’t worry. The episode’s title, “The Empty Hearse,” is the name of a group of Sherlock admirers (in the show) piecing together their hypotheses about how he pulled off his fake suicide, just like we’ve all been doing here in the real world.

This show is for full-on nerds, my friends. And as Sherlock siren Irene Adler put it last season, “Brainy is the new sexy.”

Grand Army

 I am in love with this show. I’ve heard people say it’s a Netflix euphoria which I kind of agree to disagree with, GA is more muted and realistic in a way. Not to say Euphoria isn’t real but the show is very dramatic in a sense. GA would actually happen in everyday life. Nothing was insane except for the bomb threat but honestly I’ve had a shooting threat called into my school multiple times so this is just the NY version of that. Anyway onto the characters:

Dom- amazing, beautiful, talented, hardworking, absolutely flawless 10/10

Joey- in the beginning she was a performative activist and self absorbed. She labeled herself an ally of POC then hung out with George and Luke who call their only brown friend every variation of racial jokes. She had an active hand in Owen’s suspension, how can you claim your for POC then act oblivious to how your influence as a white woman could impact a black mans’ future. After the meeting with the principal, she had the nerve to turn to Dom saying how she felt “really bad” about what happened. Moving past this, what happened to Joey was evil. She was assaulted/betrayed by the people she trusted the most in the world. She is stronger than any character I’ve ever seen. I was so proud of her for standing up to her abusers and confronting them. I’m so proud she started dancing again and I hope she gets the healing/justice she deserves. 8.5/10

Leila- I think her storyline/character is very complex and deserves an in depth review. I could make a whole post about only her. She was trash for blaming Joey because she was getting attention from Geo and Leila wasn’t. You never blame the girl and Leila should know better. However, I’m not going to pretend that George’s abuse of Leila was her fault. He is two years older than her and using her for sexual favors, it’s disgusting. Her treatment of Rachel throughout this entire thing was absolutely so selfish. It was Rachel’s sister’s day and all she could talk about was “he’s not texting me back”. I understand she is a freshmen and this happens a lot because high school is new and exciting but she needs to understand that her actions have consequences. Her battle with her identity as an minority adopted by white parents is so strong and I hope she comes to understand who she truly is. She called out her mom for her treatment of Asian women *chefs kiss* and started to think about where she comes from. HOWEVER, when she told the Asian girl in her class to “speak f*cking english”? How on earth can you struggle with knowing yourself/place as a minority then tell other minorities a racist phrase that is used to belittle their struggles? The white writers in charge of the show really shone through there. 6/10

Jayson-he went through a very big change during these nine episodes and I am proud of his progression. He never saw how he and Owen were different until Owen was sent away and it shook his entire world, which I thought was kinda wild because did he really not see the class disadvantages between he and Owen just because they are both darkskin black men? He did the right thing in the end and I hope it works out for him. 8/10

Siddhatha- I think he is a decent person overall. He did put a FRESHMAN on the “bomb p*ssy” list just cause he didn’t want his sister to be on it but one wrong doesn’t cancel out another. He did associate with the d-bags on the swim team but I believe it’s just cause they were his relay. I, personally, have to be friendly with T*ump supporters on my team and it freaking sucks so I get what he’s going through. His struggle with his identity was definitely one we’ve seen before, with a beard girlfriend, a forceful coming out, and unsupportive parents but he had a happy ending and I really love that for him. Him and Victor are the cutest and I hope freaking Orolov gets what he deserves. 9/10

Luke- I am the biggest clown there is. I was walking around saying, “Aww, I love Luke, I want him and Joey to be together, I’m only on the first episode but I hope nothing bad happens!!!”, like a freaking idiot. But yeah, he disgusts me and I hope he and the other three rot. He really had the nerve to tell Joey SHE should be apologizing to THEM?! LIke, wtf? No, actually, what the f*ck? -1000000000000000000000000000000000000/10

George- He is absolutely disgusting for using Leila the way he did. He deserves the worst for what he did to Joey and I hope he gets what is coming to him. -1000000000000000000000000000000000000/10

Quinntana anon here!! thanks so much for your response; one of the things that stuck out to me is when you mentioned they understand each other on such a deep level, bc I totally agree - and I personally don’t think Q & S would fully realize that until they’re out of Lima/McKinley and have had some time apart.

I often think back to that s3 moment when Mr Schue is singing goodbye to the seniors in the choir room and they look at each other before holding hands for the briefest of seconds. it’s like their way of acknowledging all of the shit they’ve gone through together while simultaneously acknowledging the love they have for each other. their relationship works in a way maybe only they understand, and that’s enough for them.

there was so much room for a juicy storyline between them post 4x14, both platonically and/or romantically. I know the fact Dianna wasn’t really around much by then most likely contributed to the lack of, but I can still whine and blame RIB (so I will 😝)

I vibe with what you say, I also think they needed time away from McKinley to realize how important they are to one another. Like I said I think they both take their bond for granted and that can be both good and bad. I think the high school environment and obsession with how people viewed them/social hierarchy hindered them both. Quinn a bit more so and I think she desperately needed to get out of there more than most, but it goes for both. So they need distance from that to realize what it is they have, exactly. In my experience getting out of that high school environment can drastically change dynamics and Quinntana deffo shift post-graduation.

I love your thoughts on the 3x22 moment. I think a lot of it is Naya and Dianna just really giving it their all but it is in the text so there's no reason we couldn't read into it. And I find that with Quinntana it's often in those quiet moments we find the truth, you know? Not the admittedly iconic hallway fight or even their hookup, just those small moments when they understand each other.

I'll take this opportunity to talk a bit about s4 Quinntana if you don't mind because oh boy. So correct me if I'm wrong but by my calculations, there is exactly one Quinn scene in season 4 that doesn't include Santana in some capacity - convo with Kitty and confronting the Puckermans. And there are no Quinn songs that don't also feature Santana, including her solo Come See About Me because it has Brittana on backing vocals. So that's crazy, isn't it? They really had Dianna come back as a guest star in season 4 and said "but only Naya scenes". And I love that for those two.

And narratively, where does that leave us? I think it means Quinn's season 4 arc is Quinntana. As much as she has an arc as a guest star anyway. And that really just hits different because the entire thing is this tension brewing but now that they're out of high school it's like, what is this leading up to? Because it isn't the Kitty and Marley thing. Even in Naked, they're in NY for Rachel but can't stop with the remarks. And then in 4x14 we of course find out what it's been leading up to.

I think you absolutely can blame RIB because fine, Dianna wasn't available for the rest of season 4. But then to have Quinn's season 5 scenes revolve around Puck, of all people? What a downgrade. Of course, we had Brittana running in parallel with that but how about we make it the Unholy Trinity and not just for the length of that Toxic performance (which is another topic in and of itself). How about we focus on the girls all seeing each other after a long time. And in parallel to Santana seeing that there's something off with Brittany, she sees it on Quinn, too. Quinn, who's been running through the same cycles with men she doesn't love and the non-wedding seemed like some sort of breakthrough. But now she's back with another boy she only likes the idea of. And here's Santana, seeing both of her best friends lose themselves pretending to be someone they're not while she's also busy destroying her friendship with Rachel for the sake of a dream she doesn't actually want.

I mean, it writes itself. But the writers really said, no Unholy Trinity, we just need them to be sexy. It will never not bother me that Quinntana never had a one-on-one or really any scene after the hookup. You know what it was, RIB being cowards because they were too powerful.

You were goofy and sweet and, well, not exactly the brightest but who was really interested in you for your brains. If you didn’t count your tendency to pine over girls that were the epitome of ‘unavailable’, you were simply loving life, no? The world was your oyster (if you could just get the grades). I know things were getting a little messy towards our time together but you were sure to turn it all around. Now look at you! All scowls and stubble. A Little Extra

Jacob Hunter was the darling of the Upper East Side. Well, one of them anyway. Born into the lap of luxury like most of us here, he grew up wanting for nothing. Sure, his dad’s a little scary but his mom more than makes up for it in love, laughter and absolutely iconic fashion sense. Plus, with Logan Hunter as an older sibling, their dad’s glare was fixed firmly in that direction. Jake was always popular. He had the looks, the talent and an adorable, occasionally vacant look on his face. There really was no faulting Jake and, well, the fact he was St Jude’s football star didn’t hurt either. Now, Jake is a sweet guy - a little mushy, actually - however he did gain a reputation. Everyone saw him as a player (not just on the football field, you see) and admittedly, he leaned into that. He might have wanted to wax poetic and take things slow but when your alleged tutor suggests making out instead well... That’s cool too. Let’s just say not a lot of studying was going on in those days.

Despite what you’d think, Jake was chronically unlucky in love. He’d take it on the chin but still. In brighter news, he did actually manage to get into college (mostly due to athletics and maybe his parents) and ended up as the Quarterback for the college team (go Lions!). Hell, even his last minute St. Jude’s rival Sam Watts became a cool guy once they were in college. He thought forsure there’d be hard feelings when he took Sam’s high school position but no. Things were looking up. For once he was trying to focus on his studies instead of his messy dating life which was definitely a smart move. Did he still hold a torch for the infamous Sapphire Vandervort? Yeah but it was okay. Getting there anyway. Sure, maybe he was still holding out hope but she wasn’t ready. At least she was still there, you know? Well... Until she wasn’t. Sapphire running away was one of the first things to go catastrophically wrong in Jake Hunter’s life. Mix in a little hushed family drama to his concentration and his performance started to plummet. Not on the field though. At least he still had football. Well, until teammate and supposed “friend” Sam Watts “accidentally” slammed into him during a game only unlike in high school, the damage was to his throwing arm and it wasn’t just going to go away. Next thing you know, Jake is dropping out of school and ghosting his friends and family. Even his mom. Big yikes, right?

What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?

Jake was a part of the Original Takedown - Jesse is a bro and bros gotta stick together! Gossip Girl knows that Jake not only had a giant crush on Jesse’s GF Sophia, almost kissed Scarlett at the ‘singles day’ event but hooked up with Sapphire at the Fairchild Ball (on the very night of Logan’s accident too!). GG also knows that Jake has recently found out about his biological parents and isn’t saying a word about it.

Connections

Logan and Camille Hunter - the siblings! Jake’s always been close with them both, loves them a lot but with how he’s been feeling lately... He doesn’t really wanna hear from them.

Sapphire Vandervort - Jake’s been in love with Sapphire for forever and they’ve been friends (friends that look at each like that™) almost his whole life. They hooked up at the Fairchild Ball when Saph was “dating” Tyler Van Buren which was a mess. He’s always been a sucker for her though and could never stay mad at her. Her leaving messed him up badly.

Sophia Vandervort - secret? Jake had a big crush on Sophia. But then Sophia was dating his best bro and, well, bros don’t have crushes on bros’ S.Os.

Jesse Walker - the best bro you’ve been hearing so much about!

Samuel Watts - when Sam transferred to St. Jude’s, there was an instant rivalry between the two. Sam wanted Jake’s spot on the team as Captain and QB, doing almost anything to get it. Once they started college, they agreed to let bygones be bygones. They fist pumped about it! Then the “accident” on the field happened. Jake doesn’t talk to him anymore.

Omg I got 3 for Sam all in the last few hours. We really love that boy don’t we??

Why I like them: Sam is such a sweetheart. He’s an amazing friend, very loyal, and isn’t afraid to throw hands to defend someone. He dated every girl in the club but he never came off like a player bc you just knew he really cared about who he was with, even when he was getting jerked around at times. He’s a perfect leader and the best “straight” boy character by a looong shot

Why I don’t: The character assassination starting in s4. Making him go from a lil ditzy to just plain stupid. Making him the male Brittany in that he’s supposed to be too naive to realize he’s spewing offensive shit. He still had his good moments later on but the writers just kept making him act a fool

Favorite episode: Naked. He had a lot of growth in that episode and his plot was the best thread of the story. He learned a good lesson, and I always get emotional seeing the video that everyone put together for him. Also Guilty Pleasures bc Sam kind of got to be a teacher, he got to have fun, he got to show his artsy side, and he was super cool about Blaine having a crush on him. He’s just such a good guy ugh

Favorite season: I’m gonna saaay s2 or 4. Both were good in different ways

Favorite line: “The best thing about glee club is it's not about labels. If you can sing and you can dance, you belong.”

Favorite outfit: Well Sam’s not really a character I think about when I think about iconic style. Buuut his little school boy outfit for the calendar was adorable

OTP: LOVE Samcedes. All their faults aside they’re cute as all hell

Head Canon: Less of a hc more of a rewrite but he stays in NY and Kurt gets him the hookup at Vogue.com and he keeps being a model
