11/28/22 After breakfast 11:58 am
Tumblr media
Ok. So I was up early this morning so I just stayed up and went to work.
Bought Alan Robert's new book, which comes with a month of their app free so I am checking that out.
Read the book, in under 2 hours while working this morning.
Hoping I have a better grasp on how to effectively take nomorbidity now.
I have had alot of water this morning.
Walked on the treadmill during my break. Joined Crystal's walk zoom and "walked" at my desk.
Did my normal low impact class at work.
And had this for breakfast. 3 eggs, fried in a little Evoo.
And realized it was time to do a new board.
This one shows I was getting off track, aka stuffing my face too much (vacation was a sugar nightmare) and a little about how I was getting things back under control, back to going my classes and getting some gym time in.

Anti-Obesity Drugs Can Shrink More Than Patients
— By Aimee Donnellan and Robert Cyran | September 20, 2023 | Reuters
Tumblr media
Boxes of Ozempic and Mounjaro, semaglutide and tirzepatide injection drugs used for treating type 2 diabetes and made by Novo Nordisk and Lilly, is seen at a Rock Canyon Pharmacy in Provo, Utah, U.S. March 29, 2023. Reuters/George Frey Acquire Licensing Rights
London, UK/New York, USA — Starry-eyed venture capitalists love to talk about how promising startups might capture a chunk of a giant total addressable market (TAM). This concept can also work in reverse, though. New anti-obesity drugs have the potential to transform public health, while obliterating demand for products and services from the medical, food and fitness industries. Think of them as total unaddressable markets (TUM).
Drugs developed by Novo Nordisk (NOVOb.CO) and Eli Lilly (LLY.N) appear to be the first truly effective diet treatments. They work by targeting receptors in the brain that reduce appetite and help people feel fuller for longer. Originally developed to tackle diabetes, they’re gaining traction as treatments for obesity. In one clinical trial, patients taking Eli Lilly’s soon-to-be-launched weight-loss drug lost about 50 pounds (23 kg). The benefits for public health are potentially huge. In August, Novo said Wegovy, its obesity drug, reduced the incidence of serious cardiovascular events like strokes and heart attacks by 20% in overweight patients who have a history of heart disease but don’t have diabetes.
Sales are already soaring. Last year, Novo sold nearly $2.5 billion worth of Wegovy and Ozempic, its treatment for people with diabetes. Analysts expect that figure to balloon to $16 billion by 2027, according to forecasts compiled by Visible Alpha. Demand for the medicines, collectively known as GLP-1 drugs, far exceeds what manufacturers can currently produce. Yet excitement has lifted Novo’s market capitalisation to $420 billion, making it Europe’s most valuable company. Lilly, whose diabetes treatment is called Mounjaro, has seen its market value nearly double to more than $500 billion in under 18 months.

Such a dramatic revolution in public health will also produce losers, though. The drugs are designed to suppress appetite, mimicking a gut hormone which is released after eating. During trials, patients showed reduced appetite and even an aversion towards food generally. This has the potential to affect giant groups such as Switzerland’s Nestlé (NESN.S), Cadbury and Oreo maker Mondelez International (MDLZ.O), and Kraft Heinz (KHC.O). These companies dominate a global market for snacks which is currently worth more than half a trillion dollars in revenue per year and is expected by Fortune Business Insights to expand to nearly $840 billion by 2029. Fast food groups like McDonald’s (MCD.N), Burger King and KFC owner Yum Brands (YUM.N) could also face shrinking or shifting demand.
The potential impact on the medical industry could be even bigger. Over 40% of Americans are obese according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and that number has increased by nearly 40% over two decades. Obese people are more likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease, various cancers, arthritis and dementia. In 2016 the Milken Institute estimated the medical costs associated with obesity in the United States at nearly $500 billion a year. A 2021 study published in the BMJ projected that costs from reduced health and higher absenteeism worldwide would rise 50% by 2060.
The adoption of anti-obesity drugs remains hard to gauge. At a cost of about $1,000 per month it’s unclear whether insurers and public health authorities will fund widespread treatment. Side effects can also be harsh. Only about a third of those who started taking the drugs for obesity were still doing so a year later, according to one analysis.
Any destructive impact is therefore likely to be gradual. Even so, investors are beginning to fret. Breakingviews scanned transcripts of corporate earnings calls, presentations and other events tracked by LSEG for mentions of Wegovy, Ozempic and Mounjaro – excluding those hosted by Novo and Lilly. In 2022 there were 18 such events. So far this year, at least one of the drugs has been mentioned 71 times.

Among the potential losers are firms like ResMed (RMD.N) and Inspire Medical Systems (INSP.N), which make products that treat sleep apnea, a condition where patients intermittently stop breathing while asleep. Around 70% of sufferers are obese. On a call with investors in August, ResMed CEO Michael Farrell said he thought weight-loss drugs wouldn’t have a major impact on the company’s future sales because the treatment is harsh and its cost would discourage many patients from taking it long term, while awareness of the effects of obesity could push patients towards apnea treatment. Even so, ResMed’s stock has since lost about a third of its value.
Meanwhile, companies selling joint replacements such as Zimmer Biomet (ZBH.N) and Smith+Nephew (SN.L) could see their $25 billion and $11 billion values slimmed. These two firms earn about two-thirds and 30% of their revenue, respectively, from hip and knee implants. One study estimated about a quarter of surgical cases involving knees could be avoided if patients weren’t overweight. Rival weight management treatments also look vulnerable. Since June 2021, when Novo Nordisk’s first obesity drug gained regulatory approval, shares of WW International (WW.O), formerly Weight Watchers, have collapsed about 70%, despite the company unveiling a plan to distribute weight-loss drugs.
Tumblr media
Reuters Graphics Reuters Graphics
Economic destruction could spread further afield, too. Anecdotal reports and trials on animals suggest GLP-1 drugs may also dampen urges beyond snacking, including consuming alcohol, nicotine and possibly engaging in other addictive behaviors like gambling.
These changes may have limited impact or affect only a small number of users. But any reduction in addictions could have big effects. The gambling and alcohol industries tend to display so-called Pareto distributions, where a few users provide most of the profit. In England, for example, 4% of drinkers account for 23% of the industry’s revenue, according to a study in the journal Addiction. And the top 20% most engaged gamblers using an online casino operated by the Canadian government made up 92% of revenue and 90% of losses.
Widespread adoption of GLP-1 drugs could also produce corporate winners as consumers divert cash previously spent on food and medical care. Plastic surgeons may benefit if patients seek nips and tucks following weight loss. Dating services like Match and Grindr (GRND.N) may attract newly confident users. Fashion brands and sporting goods groups could get a lift from people seeking new wardrobes or embracing athletic pursuits. Yet even as Novo, Lilly and others see their addressable markets expand, some companies will see theirs shrink. For investors, the TUM may be just as important as the TAM.

Chapter 7. Polluted Politics? Confronting Toxic Discourse, Sex Panic and Eco-Normativity by Giovanna Di Chiro
“Stereotypes and lies lodge in our bodies as surely as bullets. They live and fester there, stealing the body.”—Eli Clare
Queer ecology as defined by Mortimer-Sandilands (2005, 24) “both about seeing beauty in the wounds of the world and taking responsibility to care for the world as it is”. (200)
Environmental justice constructs an eco-politics that defines the environment as our communities: the places where ‘we live, work, play, and learn’ (200). Environmental justice activists embrace inhabited/built places---cities, villages, reservations, agricultural fields, workplaces, poor and low-income neighborhoods next to hazardous industrial facilities as environments worthy of recognition and protection (Di Chiro 1996)
There has been rising environmental anxiety that surrounds cultural fears of exposure to chemical and endocrine-disrupting toxins especially as it relates to the troubling and destabilizing of normal/natural gendered bodies of humans and other animal species aka the “chemical castration” or the “feminization of nature” (Cadbury 1998; Hayes 2002)--rising fears that we are “swimming in a sea of estrogen” (Raloff 1994b, 56; Sumpter and Jobling 1995 173) as a consequence of rising levels of estrogenic, synthetic chemical compounds emitted into our water, air and food known as estrogenic pollution (ova-pollution). (201)
Pop-science warning about the ‘instability of maleness’—warns that the rising incidences of male-to-female gender shifts and intersex conditions observed in the ‘lower’ species of animals, such as frogs, fish, and salamanders, represent the newest ‘canaries in the coalmine’ portending an uncertain fate for human maleness and for the future of ‘normal’ sexual reproduction (Robert 2003) (201) also anti-toxins discourse has concerns about estrogenic chemical toxins disrupting/preventing/disturbing ‘normal’ prenatal physiological development and natural reproductive processes, leading to rising cases of infertility and producing disabled, defective, and even monstrous bodies (201)…
Tumblr media
What can develop is a “sex panic” that resuscitates familiar heterosexist, queerphobic, and eugenics arguments classifying some bodies as not normal: mistakes, perversions, burdens (I would add ‘freaks’)…under the guise of laudable goal/progressive goals, a certain type of anti-toxics environmentalism mobilizes knowledge/power of normalcy and normativity and reinforces compulsory social-environmental order based on a dominant regime of what and who are constructed as normal and natural (Davis 1995; Garland-Thompson 1997; McRuer 2006).
Disability becomes an environmental problem and lgbtq people become disabled—the unintended consequences of a contaminated and impure environment, unjustly impaired by chemical trespass. (202) The true scope of the mortality and morbidity of POPs (persistent organic pollutants) becomes distorted by alarmist focus. This fixation ends up de-emphasizing and worse--naturalizing and normalizing other serious health problems associated with POPs that are on the rise: breast, ovarian, prostate and testicular cancers, neurological and neurobehavioral problems, immune system breakdown, heart disease, diabetes and obesity (202).
Tumblr media
There is good reason for alarm concerning the continued use and accumulation of toxic chemicals that are wreaking havoc on the health and reproductive possibilities of the living world. Our cumulative exposures to endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, neurotoxins, asthmagens, and mutagens in our normal, everyday lives from our daily contact with plastic water bottles, shampoos, and kitchen cleaners to insect repellents, food preservatives, and factory farmed meats, among others, are most certainly putting at risk the health of our own bodies and our earth. (210) But where should the critical attention lie?
The hyperfocus on the world turning into hermaphrodites participates in a sexual titillation strategy summoning the familiar ‘crimes against’ nature’ credo and inviting culturally sanctioned homophobia while at the same time sidelining and naturalizing ‘normal’ environmental diseases such as cancer (211).
--
Environmental theory and politics in the US have historically mobilized ideas of the normal, to determine which  bodies and environments/landscapes embody the distinctly American values of productive work, rugged individualism, masculinity, independence, potency, and moral virtue upon which environmental advocacy movements should be based (Haraway 1989; Cronon 1991). Critical histories of U.S. environmentalism have revealed the capitalist, patriarchal, colonialist, heteronormative, eugenicist, and ableist histories underlying its “progressive” exterior (Boag 2003; Darnovky 1992; Evans 2002; Gaard 2004; Jaquette 2005; Sutter 2001).
Eco-normativity (or eco[hetero]normativity) appear in alarmist discourse in the anti-toxins arm of the environmental movement. Their alarm about contaminants effect on sex/gender appeals to preexisting cultural norms of gender balance, normal sexual reproduction and the balance of nature. The use of “anti-normal” “anti-natural” in antitoxins discourse is highly questionable and risks reinforcing the dominant social and economic order (the forces actually responsible for environmental destruction and toxic contamination of all our bodies and environments) by naturalizing the multiple injustices that shore it up”…and thus creates what the author terms, polluted politics.

Anthony Robert McMillan was born on March 30th, 1950 in Rutherglen, we knew him better as Robbie Coltrane.
Robbie was educated at Glenalmond College, an independent school in Perthshire, from which he was nearly expelled after hanging the prefects' gowns from the school clocktower. Though he later described his experiences there as deeply unhappy, he played for the rugby First XV, was head of the school's debating society and won prizes for his art.
From Glenalmond, Coltrane went on to Glasgow School of Art, where he was ridiculed for "having an accent like Prince Charles" (of which he quickly disposed, though not before gaining the nickname "Lord Fauntleroy"), and thereafter the Moray House College of Education (part of the University of Edinburgh) in Edinburgh.
In the early 70's Robbie took the name Coltrane, due to his love of jazz musician John Coltrane, and began a career of a stand-up comedian at night clubs, at the Edinburgh Festival, as well as an actor with Edinburgh's renowned Traverse Theatre.
After picking up a few bit parts in films and TV series I first remember Robbie appearing in the BBC Scotland comedy sketch series A kick up the Eighties, he went on from there to appear in The Comic Strip Presents films during the 80's The Supergrass and The Pope must die being the most successful. At that time Coltrane had a drinking problem, downing as much as a bottle of whisky a day. In 1986 he flew to a clinic in Mexico and was treated for obesity. In 1987 his partner for 15 years, Robin Paine, left him for good. A year later he met Rhona Gemmell in a pub. They married and had a son, Spencer, and a daughter, Alice. His career took off during the early 1990s with the leading role as Dr. Eddie "Fitz" Fitzgerald, a forensic psychologist, in the popular TV series Cracker.
Coltrane is one of only a few to have played "baddies" in 2 Bond films, playing Russian mafia man Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough. He went on to play Rubeus Hagrid in seven Harry Potter films.
Robbie has also featured in factual TV series, Coltrane's Planes and Automobiles, as well as a host of other TV series, none of which, surprisingly are Taggart! He was voted No. 11 in ITV's TV's 50 Greatest Stars and sixth in a poll of 2000 adults across the UK to find the 'most famous Scot', behind the Loch Ness Monster, Robert Burns, Sean Connery, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace.
Robbie passed away on October 14th 2022, he had become a virtual recluse, living a a rented converted barn near Stirling, living off takeaways from a local Chinese. Coltrane was cremated and his family spread his ashes around several of his favourite places around Manhattan, New York.
His death certificate shows that the actor died from a string of conditions including multiple organ failure, the causes of death given were sepsis, where an infection triggers an extreme reaction throughout the body, lower respiratory tract infection and heart block.
I always loved Robbie, from his early days right through his career, it's sad when the people you grew up laughing at and enjoyed in folms and TV pass away.............Rest in Peace big man.

I keep recommending this episode of The People's Pharmacy to people. It's an interview with neuroendocrinologist Robert Lustig about why "diet and exercise" is useless as a health doctrine when dealing with obesity related illness. I figure some of my followers are probably dealing with body weight and diet issues and struggle with feeling like it's their fault, so I'm sharing it here. Reasons I really like this interview:
He really hammers home that obesity related illness is not illness caused by obesity - rather they are symptoms of the same underlying cause
He explains the mechanism that causes the conditions in a very accessible way
Even when the hosts pushed him to give some "practical" advice for listeners, he adamantly insisted that this is a systemic issue that must be solved on a systemic level and that it is unreasonable to expect individuals to combat our diseased food industry on their own
He pushed back again against the idea that teaching healthy food habits to children is workable on a family level, and calls school cafeterias the largest fast food chain on earth
One more thing: this is why we should be supporting public radio!

Chase not only is a nuanced, complicated character, but many of his "funny" traits come with some sort of issue.
Unpopular opinion:I think his fatphobia is the exception, and Chase is just a jackass who hates fat people. The early seasons of House MD were shot and broadcast in 2004-2006,and those times were infamous for it's vigent beauty standards. Therefore,Chase's shitty opinions weren't out of place. I don't gel with the "eating disorder" headcanon(but each to their own) because Chase is shown to have a healthy relationship with food in canon. Alternatively, his fatphobia might be related to his past as the son of an alcoholic,at least in part - something that was repeatedly shown to affect his emotions, decisions and even some aspects of his personality. Maybe he chalked morbid obesity to people who "can't control themselves, and the family has to deal with the messy results". But I still think is just him being an asshole and that kind of prejudice was well-accepted in the 00's(even if everyone else on the team side eyed him for it). I wonder if 2013-and-beyond Chase is still fatphobic.
However,I absolutely think Chase had "child of immigrant" issues, although they were very subtle(and I'm pretty sure he only got this background because the production team hired the first old white guy that showed up in the set, said old white guy couldn't make an Australian accent for shit and they had to say he's from somewhere in Europe). His dad was from Czechoslovakia,a country that had been through hard times during a big chunk of the twentieth century, and there's a meta somewhere about Rowan being an economic immigrant. On the other hand,Robert was an Australian equivalent to a rich WASP brat and privileged in every way possible(except when it comes to family relationships). I've seen many children of immigrants on social media, and a recurrent mention is resentment from their parents due to "how much better the children had". That being said,I'm almost sure Rowan dealt with said emotions by means of escapism, whether it's physical or emotional(Robert mentioned how distant his dad was many times). On top of all that,Chase's mom was probably Australian(I know this is a quip by House, but he said Chase "had criminals for ancestors" - refering to Australia's history as an exile land for XVIII British criminals),and cultural differences affect marriages, according to people who married foreigners. Besides, there's the chance Victoria(a made up name for Robert's mom) came from a well-off family(that's my headcanon) and that was probably another factor for why their marriage didn't work out,IMO.

THE CHILLING CASE OF THE SNOWTOWN MURDERS
In 1999, Snowtown in South Australia became labeled as the location of where the remains of eight bodies were found. All the remains were found inside barrels of acid, located inside an abandoned bank vault. Even though most of the bodies were all found in Snowtown, only one murder happened there. All other victims were killed around the outer northern suburbs of Adelaide, and none of the four perpetrators were locals from Snowtown either. There were twelve victims in total.
Tumblr media
The motives for the murders remain unclear, but it seems as though the group's ringleader, John Justin Bunting, made them believe that the victims they were targeting were either pedophiles, homosexuals, or anyone who appeared to seem “weak.” He also chose his victims due to things he hated, such as drug users, or people who were obese. Some victims were killed quickly, while others were tortured and degraded. The killers also made an effort to take the victims' identities to have access to their bank accounts and social security payments. The murders took place between August of 1992, up until they were apprehended in May of 1999.
THE PERPETRATORS
John Justin Bunting: (born September 4th, 1966). The ring leader. When he was eight, he was beaten and sexually assaulted by a friend's older brother. This led to his hatred towards homosexuals and why he felt to take matters into his own hands regarding anyone who he suspected as being a pedophile. He also enjoyed weaponry, photography and anatomy. At age 22, Bunting worked at an abattoir, and reportedly bragged about slaughtering the animals, and how much he enjoyed it. In 1991, Bunting then moved to a house in Salisbury North, South Australia, and befriended his neighbors, Mark Haydon and Robert Wagner.
A forensic psychiatrist, Professor Kevin Howellsat, believed that his behavior suggested he lacked emotion and the capacity to empathize with his victims. It showed that he was a psychopath who felt great satisfaction from controlling his victims. His victims were forced to call him ‘God’, 'Master', 'Chief Inspector' and 'Lord Sir'. During the murders, he had fashioned a "rock spider wall" on a wall of a spare room in his house. He created a chart by using paper notes and wool, and on that chart was an interconnected web of names of people that he suspected to be homosexuals or pedophiles. He would select a name from the wall then call and threaten the person, insinuating they were pedophiles, and claimed that they "would get what's coming to them".
Bunting was convicted of committing 11 murders, and was sentenced to 11 life sentences without the possibility of parole.
Robert Joe Wagner: (born November 28th, 1971). There’s not a lot to report on Wagner, besides the fact that he was befriended by Bunting in 1991, and was convinced to assist in the murders. He only confessed to killing three people, but was convicted of killing 10, and was sentenced to 10 life sentences without the possibility of parole.
James “Jamie” Spyridon Vlassakis: (born December 24th, 1979). James, along with his mother and half-brother, Troy Youde, lived with Bunting, and overtime was convinced to assist in the murders. Yes, Vlassakis helped torture and murder his own half-brother, along with his stepbrother, David Johnson. He confessed to four murders, including the murder of his half-brother and stepbrother, and became a key witness for the Crown (public prosecutors to the legal system of Australia). Evidence, along with the details he provided, helped convict Bunting and Wagner. He was sentenced to a minimum of 26, and was held in isolation in an unidentified South Australia prison. Vlassakkis mother, Elizabeth Harvey, also knew about the murders, and with encouragement from Bunting, she even assisted in one of them. However, once everyone was taken into custody, she passed away from cancer.
Mark Ray Haydon: (born December 4th, 1958). Haydon was an associate of Bunting, and was initially the subject of "suppression orders or statutory provisions prohibiting publication” and thus could not be identified as anything other than an alleged perpetrator. In January of 1999, he reportedly rented the abandoned state bank building in Snowtown. The jury deadlocked on the murders of Haydon's wife, Elizabeth Haydon, along with Troy Youde. The murder charges were not retried when Haydon pleaded guilty to helping the serial killers dispose of the bodies of Elizabeth and Youde.
Haydon only confessed to assisting with disposing of two bodies, but was convicted of five, and was sentenced to 25 years with a minimum of 18 years before being eligible for parole.
THE VICTIMS
Tumblr media
Clinton Douglas Trezise (20): His body was found buried in a shallow grave at Lower Light, north of Adelaide, in 1994. He was bashed in the head with a hammer by Bunting, after being invited inside for a social event. Once inside, he accused him of being a pedophile.
Ray Allan Peter Davies (26): He was an intellectually disabled man, who in 1993 had an intimate relationship with Bunting's ex-girlfriend, Suzanne Allen. Suzanne’s grandsons alleged that Davies had made sexual advances towards them, which ended his relationship with Suzanne. Bunting later admitted to Vlassakis that he had killed Davies on December 25th, 1995. He explained how Vlassakis's own mother and Bunting's wife, Elizabeth Harvey, had stabbed Davies in the leg, right before Wagner strangled him to unconsciousness with a jumper cable. In court testimony, Vlassakis stated that, according to Bunting's story, Bunting and Wagner loaded Davies’ unconscious body into the trunk of a car, and had driven 90 minutes to a home in the town of Bakara. Then they threw his body into a bathtub, and proceeded to bash him in the genitals with the end of a pole which resulted in his death. On May 26, 1999, the body of Davies was found in a grave filled in by Bunting and Wagner with bricks, soil and concrete on property previously occupied by Bunting in Salisbury.
Suzanne Allen (47): Was found buried at Bunting's house, and wrapped in eleven different plastic bags. Her death was concealed by Bunting and he continued to collect her pension, claiming a total of $17,000. Bunting claimed she had died of a heart attack although law enforcement suspect that she was murdered when her relationship with Bunting deteriorated. Murder charges regarding the death of Allen were eventually dropped by the prosecution due to lack of evidence and the perpetrators were tried but not found guilty as a result of a hung jury. Her case was never tried again.
Michelle Gardiner (19): She was a transexual, who was also the cousin of Wagner’s wife. She was very open about who she was, and Bunting hated this behavior and labeled her as “the biggest homo.” Right before her disappearance in 1977, she was outside playing with Wagner's children in their front yard, where he witnessed her grabbing one of his children and placing her hand over their mouth. Seeing this, Wagner became filled with rage, and he and Bunting took her to the Murray Bridge, where they strangled her to death, inside of a shed. There they forced her to stand up every time she collapsed. After her death, they staged her home to make it look like she was robbed. They kept her body in a barrel inside the shed, until they moved it to the Snowtown bank vault. Her right ear was covered by a slipknot in a rope that was wrapped around her neck, and her left foot was cut off in order to be able to close the barrel.
Vanessa Lane (42): She was Wagner’s ex-partner, and was a “pre-op” transgender woman who was in a relationship with Wagner during the time Bunting moved in nextdoor. Bunting was okay with being her friend, simply because she kept him updated about the pedophiles around the area. However, when she was accused of sexually assaulting a local boy, he became enraged. The couple then broke up. She was tortured to death for information regarding her bank accounts, and then was strangled to death after having her toes crushed by a pair of pliers. Bunting took control of her vehicle and collected her welfare payments. Her body was found dismembered and put into a barrel in the Snowtown bank vault.
Thomas Eugenio Trevilyan (18): Vanessa Lane’s last partner who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and hallucinations, which led him to believe that he was a soldier, so he always wore army clothes. From April to October 1997, Trevilyan lived with Vanessa for five months, and helped Bunting and Wagner kill her. On November 4th, 1997, Wagner's girlfriend's son was playing with a dog when Trevilyan began chasing it in an attempt to kill the animal with his knife. He was stopped but that afternoon Bunting told others that Trevilyan had started to "go mental" and that he would be a liability to them. On November 5th, Trevilyan was then driven to Kersbrook in the Adelaide Hills, by Bunting and Wagner. He was forced to lean against a box and had a noose put over his neck. He was discovered hanging from a tree in Humbug Scrub the next day. Due to his history of prior suicide attempts, the coroner determined that he had killed himself
Gavin Allan Porter (29): Was a diagnosed schizophrenic who spent many years in mental institutions, and who was also Vlassakis friend. Both Porter and Vlassaki were heroin addicts, and Bunting referred to Porter as “a waste,” and after accidentally being pricked by a syringe that was left on the couch, he decided Porter would be their next victim. Porter was sleeping in his parked car on Bunting's property when Bunting and Wagner attacked him. When Porter woke up, he managed to stab Bunting in the hand with a screwdriver before being overpowered and strangled. Porter's body was displayed to Vlassakis before disposing of it into a barrel.
Troy Youde (21): He was the half-brother of Vlassakis. Vlassakis had earlier confided in Bunting that Youde exually abused him when he was 13. Bunting and Wagner woke up Vlassakis while he was sleeping in his bed and told him they were going to murder Youde. They beat Youde while he was asleep in bed and then Vlassakis handcuffed him while the others tied him up. They then dragged him out of bed and forced him into the bathroom, where they beat him once more and demanded his financial information. Bunting used pliers to crush Youde's toes as he coaxed him to repeat a string of numbers, words, and sentences that he had recorded. He was then strangled to death. Bunting created messages from Youde and afterwards from subsequent victims to inform friends that they would be going away using the recordings.
Frederick “Fred” Robert Brooks (18): Was the son of Jodie Elliott who was the sister of Haydon's wife. Bunting became obsessed with the idea that Brooks was "touching up" young girls and repeatedly told others that something had to "happen" to him. In September 1998, Brooks was notified that he had been accepted into the Australian Air Force Cadets, and was invited to join Bunting, Wagner and Vlassakis at a party. The three of them tortured him in a bathtub and was handcuffed and thumb cuffed. They inserted lit cigarettes into his ears and his nostrils, and a lit sparkler was shoved up into his urethra. He was then forced to speak into a recording device, giving up his banking information. A syringe was used to inject bleach into his testicles, which were wired to a Variac, sending electrical surges through his body. His toes were also crushed by pliers before he choked to death on his gag.
Gary O’Dwyer (29): He was Buntings neighbor and was both physically and mentally disabled, and was repeatedly called a “fag” by Bunting. Vlassaki informed Bunting of O’Dwyers financial situation and whether he had family or not. He was informed of O’dwyers disability benefits, which made him a financial target. The two, along with Wagner, invited him over for a social gathering to have drinks. They got O’Dwyer drunk, and Wagner grabbed him around his throat and proceeded to torture him for several hours. His remains, like many others, were placed inside of a barrel.
Elizabeth Haydon (37): She was Mark Haydon's wife and Frederick Brooks's aunt. Bunting was informed by Haydon that he had informed his wife about the murders. Bunting detested Elizabeth and warned Vlassakis that she was an issue due to being aware of the murders. Wagner had similar feelings about Elizabeth, considering Haydon's wife to be “a whore” and “a low-life.” On November 21, 1998, Bunting and Wagner arrived at her home, and her husband and children had gone out for the night. She was dragged to her bathroom, tortured, and then killed. A rope was left around her neck, and a gag had been taped into her mouth. Allegedly, later that day, when her husband was shown her remains, he laughed. Elizabeth's body was then placed in a barrel.
David Johnson (24): He was Vlassakis stepbrother. . Bunting didn’t like Johnson because he was fastidious with his cleanliness and appearance and Bunting consistently referred to him as a "yuppie,” and a "faggot". Bunting began talking about "getting" Johnson and suggested that Vlassakis find a way to get him to the bank vault in Snowtown. On May 9, 1999, Vlassakis told Johnson that there was a computer for sale in Snowtown, and he agreed to go with him to buy it. He was overpowered as soon as he entered the building. Johnson was the only victim who died in Snowtown. Additionally, a piece of flesh from Johnson was fried and eaten by Bunting and Wagner.

Robbie Coltrane, the Scottish actor and comedian would have been 73 today.
When the people you have grown up admiring and laughing at pass away it makes you think about your own mortality, ut also leaves a hole in life, Robbie for me was a tremendous man, going from stand up comic, to respected actor during his life, he was a very funny and genuine guy.
Born as  Anthony Robert McMillan  on March 30th, 1950 in Rutherglen, Robbie was educated at Glenalmond College, an independent school in Perthshire, from which he was nearly expelled after hanging the prefects’ gowns from the school clocktower. Though he later described his experiences there as deeply unhappy, he played for the rugby First XV, was head of the school’s debating society he also won prizes for his art.
From Glenalmond, Coltrane went on to Glasgow School of Art, where he was ridiculed for “having an accent like Prince Charles” (of which he quickly disposed, though not before gaining the nickname “Lord Fauntleroy”), and thereafter the Moray House College of Education (part of the University of Edinburgh) in Edinburgh.
In the early 70’s Robbie took the name Coltrane, due to his love of jazz musician John Coltrane, and began a career of a stand-up comedian at night clubs, at the Edinburgh Festival, as well as an actor with Edinburgh’s renowned Traverse Theatre.
After picking up a few bit parts in films and TV series I first remember Robbie appearing in the BBC Scotland comedy sketch series A kick up the Eighties, as seen in the clips below
youtube
Robbie then went to appear in The Comic Strip Presents films  during the 80’s  The Supergrass and The Pope Must Die being the most successful. Eddie “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a forensic psychologist, in the popular TV series Cracker.
Coltrane is one of only a few to have played “baddies” in two Bond films, playing Russian mafia man Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough. He went on to play Rubeus Hagrid in seven Harry Potter films. Robbie has also featured in factual TV series, Coltrane’s Planes and Automobiles, as well as a host of other TV series, none of which, surprisingly are Taggart! He was voted No. 11 in ITV’s TV’s 50 Greatest Stars and sixth in a poll of 2000 adults across the UK to find the ‘most famous Scot’, behind the Loch Ness Monster, Robert Burns, Sean Connery, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace.
Robbie picked his appearances carefully after he had undergone surgery on a replacement knee after suffering from chronic pain for years. He lost over 7 stone after in 2016 after doctors warned him not slimming down could leave him a “cripple”.  Robbie spent his final years in “constant pain” after his knee cartilage disintegrated. He told the Daily Express in one of his last interviews in 2020:
“I was fighting pain 24 hours a day when I was in ‘National Treasure’ and ‘Great Expectations I had no cartilage in my knee. It was bone on bone.”, he found some relief after receiving joint surgery in America.
n 2020: “I was fighting pain 24 hours a day when I was in ‘National Treasure’ and ‘Great Expectations’. He added at the time: “It was just horrible. The relief from that pain since the operation and being able to sleep has changed my life.” Going on to say he wouldn’t wish such pain "on [his] worst enemy,"

The Wall Street whale 🐳🫦🐳
- story credits; dennisgroww
*Alarm beeps*
It’s 6:30 on Monday the 1st September. A sleepy, Oscar DeLuca pulls himself out of bed, heads to the bathroom to brush his teeth and use the toilet, then puts on his freshly-steamed suit. He quickly has a bite of toast, before he grabs his briefcase and rushes out the door. Oscar, a 6ft1, brown-haired and blue eyed, native New Yorker, recently landed a highly-contested job as an intern at Goldman Sachs. It’s his first day.
*8:00*
The office is a hive of activity. Each employee moves as if unseeing hands drag them this way and that, drawing their attention to one thing and then another. It’s overwhelming for Oscar, and the other interns: Benji Greenly, Olivia Hall, Leo Carter and Noah Roberts. It’s no surprise the added stress of a new job, in one of the worlds most hyperactive investment banks, leads to excessive weight gain of interns.
*8:30*
All the interns, along with all the senior officials at the office, are called into the meeting room for the morning’s discussion. General conversation about the aims for increased investment and revenue was lead by the CEO and other shareholders. Afterwards, the CEO and his colleagues made their annual predictions as to which intern would become the ‘wall street whale’ (the fattest intern) by the end of the year. David M. Solomon, the CEO of Goldman Sachs international, suggested Oscar DeLuca as the future ‘wall street whale.’
*10:30*
Already feeling overwhelmed by the workload and expectations thrusted onto the interns, Oscar and Leo decide it’s time for a quick break. They head to the coffee station located near the lift shaft. Leo pours himself a coffee, whilst Oscar helps himself to the triple-glazed chocolate doughnuts - specifically reserved for interns.
*12:45*
Lunch break. All the interns head to the ground floor food court, and order at the ‘Grimelda’s’ Restaurant. Curiously, despite ordering a Caesar Salad and bruschetta, Oscar was bought a ‘Grimelda’s special double burger, with twice-garnished fries.’ Full knowing of the short 30 minute lunch break interns were given, and not wishing to waste time reordering, Oscar willingly ate the burger and fries.
*17:00*
Home time.
The next day, Oscar again, unintentionally, devoured a calorific foods throughout the course of the day. At 11:15, Oscar went to the toilet to gather himself after feeling queasy, there he found a whole tray of untouched, freshly cooked Beignets, coated in sugar. Oscar tried one, before finishing the whole tray after realising that food made the anxious feelings in his stomach subside. At Lunch, Oscar’s order was gotten wrong again, this time he was presented with two, full-sized, pepperoni pizzas. During the afternoon, when Oscar ordered a coffee from the cafe near the lift shaft, he was presented with a thick chocolate milkshake with whipped cream and marshmallows on top.
After his first week, Oscar had become concerned as to why he was consistently being presented with fatty, weight-encouraging, foods and drinks. However, Oscar accepted that it was purely coincidental, and he thought nothing more of it.
Slowly Oscar’s body morphed into a blob of fat, unrecognisable from the attractive, athletic man he once was. All the tempting foods he had been consuming at work had built him a swole belly, it nested in his lap, and rolled behind into his back fat. Oscar’s moobs we’re larger than the average female’s, and his butt was so fat the company had to get him a reinforced chair so as he could sit comfortably at his desk. He hadn’t thought twice about why he was no longer this muscly man and instead had become an obese intern. Whenever, he felt pressure or queasy feelings in his stomach, Oscar would reach for a bag of sweets often mysteriously placed at the edge of his desk, or he would waddle over to where the doughnuts were, and eat several. Sometimes, when he was sobbing in the bathroom after being shouted at by a senior employee, Oscar would somehow find lollipops, beignets or hot dogs on a tray by the sinks, he always filled his stomach with these before returning to his hefty body to his desk.
One morning, at 6:30 when his alarm went off, Oscar was struggling to get out of bed, more so than usual. He tried to use what was left of his inactive stomach muscles, buried under a mountain of flab, to lift his body up and out of bed - to no avail. Oscar had to call his best friend, who lived two apartment blocks down the street, to come over and heave his mass out of bed. Oscar jokily said to him that he was ‘just exhausted’ after a tough day at work yesterday. But the truth was, Oscar had gotten so fat from all the unhealthy foods he was now consuming, that he had reached the obese point where it was a struggle to perform daily tasks. This made Oscar rethink why there were always calorific foods left out at work. He decided to raise it with his other colleagues. Oscar advocated that it was strange there were always processed foods laid out around the office; his colleague, Olivia Hall, said she had noticed this too, and that she had felt obliged to eat the sweet treats. She went on to say that last week she overheard Mr Solomon, the CEO, laughing in his office about how morbidly obese Oscar DeLuca had gotten. Immediately Oscar’s face went bright red with embarrassment. He realised what had been happening. The boss had left out calorific foods for each intern, and delighted in watching them cave in and uncontrollably devour the fat-filled foods left out for them.
The next day, Oscar was called into a whole company meeting, including several oversees partners. Oscar wasn’t given a seat, he had to stand for the entire meeting. Oscar’s body crippled under his massive weight, his huge belly, sagging beneath his thighs and covering his huge fat pad, weighed down his back, his enormously thick thighs struggled under their weight. Within five minutes, Oscar was out of breath, red-faced and desperately leaning on the office wall to support his morbidly obese body. Sweat dripped down his fatty cheeks and triple chin. Soon the boss asked if Oscar was alright, everyone was now staring at this morbidly obese, red-faced intern, who had a belly as fat and wide as the door he tried to squeeze through. Suddenly everyone began cheering for Oscar, the whole meeting room burst out in applause, Mr Solomon congratulated Oscar, letting him know he had won the title of ‘wall street whale,’ embarrassed, Oscar waddled his weight to accept the award.
