not to go off topic but i think that ideal post-canon dungeon meshi situation for kabru is for him to simultaneously have a slowburn domestic cozy noodles and rare escapes to go monster hunting and falling asleep in the same bed situation with mithrun AND some sort of high politics high stakes power dynamics they can't escape, manipulation equally matched by hopeless affection, glances shared over council tables, getting caught in the closet with the king again (explaining basic social protocols to him) thing with laios.
then just as he's coming to terms with his own feelings and the possibility that they might be romantic he learns that mithrun and laios have in fact been carrying on some sort of psychosexual no-strings affair the whole time (mithrun sits on the dresser and dispassionately explains horrific and bizarre monster situations from around the globe while laios gets off seven feet away)

Prompt 273
You know what? We need more Good parents Fentons.
And you know what else? Technically, Jack helped Danny defeat Pariah via the use of the Ecto-Skeleton. And like, that’s his son, his baby boy. Sure Danny is and has always been a mommy’s boy, but it doesn’t change that fact. They’re both already feeling horrible about the fact they could have hurt him, they could have hurt their son- they have hurt their son, killed him with their inaction and never again.
So when these oversized jello-eyeballs try to insist that their baby, their precious baby boy, take a crown? Become a king when he’s not even out of highschool, when he doesn’t want it? No. Hell no! That is his Danny-o, his baby boy who was terrified of his own parents!
Which is how Jack, despite technically still being alive even if so-very ecto-contaminated, became the Ghost King.
And for some reason there’s several ghosts rather happy about this- oh, these are his Danny-O’s ghost-parents? Not-ghost parents seeing as some of them have never been anything but a realm denizen? That’s really fascinating- y’know what, want some fudge and we can exchange childcare- Maddie dear come over and meet our co-parents apparently!
Now it’s not all easy, but they’re trying their best, and that’s all that can be asked.
…
Which is perhaps why it’s so exasperating- or as Maddie would put it, downright infuriating- that it is now, almost an entire year and a half later that the Heroes finally arrive to investigate. Well, at least he has plenty of fudge since it’s almost time for the council meeting.

Zack, still having Angeal’s contact in his PHS after Modeoheim.
He calls him every once in a while, just to hear him again. Just to hear the choppy, fuzzy sound of his voice over the voicemail. Just to leave a short, quiet message saying that he’s always thinking of him and hopes that he is proud.
Until one day, as he tries to call his old mentor, the line officially disconnects.
No voicemail, no voice, no Angeal.
And the only thing that’s left is a robotic reminder that the man on the other side no longer exists.
~
When Sephiroth finds Zack crying that night, he isn’t sure what to do. What to say. Just hovers off to the side, watching the broken boy in front of him, and realizing that he simply can’t stand there and do nothing.
He gently asks Zack what’s wrong.
Zack tearily holds up the phone, shows him the extinct contact. Tells him that he lost the last tangible memories he has left of him. That he’s forever gone. That he’ll never, ever hear Angeal’s voice again.
Only Sephiroth says that’s not true.
Zack stares at him, a glistening tear crawling down his cheek. Doesn’t say a word.
And Sephiroth uses the silence to pull out his own PHS, open his messages, and scroll to a voicemail from years prior.
He clicks on it.
Angeal: Hey, Sephiroth, it’s Angeal. I got caught on the train again—don’t think I’ll be back in time to meet my usual training with Zack. Do you mind checking in with him? I know, I know: you probably don’t want to. But please believe me when I say he’s really, really something special. It would mean a lot to me. Oh, and… if you do decide to spare some time for the pup, tell him I’m proud of him… alright? He doesn’t hear it a lot. Anyway, train is leaving now. Thanks, friend. I’ll see you later.
The voicemail ends.
“I admittedly… didn’t want to check-in that day,”Sephiroth says gently, hardly more than a whisper as he tucks the phone back into his pocket. Gazes earnestly at Zack as the boy gazes back in a tearful, numbing silence. “So, please… let me say what I should have said then.”
He places a hand on his friend’s shoulder, voice growing even softer.
“Angeal is so, so very proud of you, Zack. More than words can express…”
He gives a gentle squeeze.
“And so am I.”
