Nico in therapy with Mr. D for the first time
Nico: so, what do I do? complain about my problems and you tell me others have it worse? Mr. D, having read Nico's chart and knowing he's from another era, his sister died, he felt betrayed by his crush, the only person he knew in the time period, fought a war, went to hell, fought another war, and was dealing with internalized homophobia the entire time: see, the thing is, I'm pretty sure others... definitely don't have it worse

Jason: So, tell me about yourself.
Nico, conversationally: I had a pretty rocky childhood.
Jason: *sympathetic nodding*
Nico: What with all the rocks they threw at me.
*distressed Jason noises*

Will: You're doing it.
Nico: No no no no no you can't make me!
Will: You're acting like a child.
Nico: I'll act like a child if I want to! You can't make me go!
Percy and Thalia: *Walking in*
Percy: What is going on?
Nico: He wants me to go but I don't want to!
Thalia: Calm down. No one can make you go anywhere.
Percy: Where is he making you go?
Will: Therapy.
Thalia: oh you're going!
Nico: But you just said-!
Thalia: Don't care! You're going!
Nico: Why don't you go to therapy?!?
Thalia: I do! Artemis does group sessions for all the hunters.
Nico: Well uhhh...
Will: See!
Nico: No! You can't make me cause I'm not the only one who needs it!
Will: So you admit you need it.
Nico: No! Shut up, what about Percy?
Thalia: You have a good point there.
Nico: Thank you-
Thalia: Percy you're going to therapy too!
Percy: What? No!
Thalia: Uh yes!
Percy: You don't have a say in that!
Thalia: I'll talk to your mom about it!
Percy: you can't just talk to my mom about that!
Thalia: Yes I can! She loves me.
Nico: Thalia you don't get to make this decision!
Thalia: Yes I can!
Nico: You're not our mother!
Thalia: I could be!
Nico: What does that even mean?!?!
Thalia: I don't know but we're going with it! And you are going to therapy!
Nico: *angrily huffs* Fine!
Will: Thank you!
Thalia: Percy?
Percy: No.
Thalia: *sternly* Percy.
Percy: No.
Thalia: Percy!
Percy: *stubborn* No!
Nico: If I have to do it so do you!
Percy: That's not how this works!
Nico: If you don't go I won't!
Will: No! You're going!
Nico: Nope! Only if he goes!
Thalia: *sternly* Percy.
Percy: *sighs* Fine. I will try one session!

the podcast nico did with jenson makes me feel genuinely crazy like. nico saying “im a sensitive person too i couldnt handle that kind of approach (team principals being harsher)” jenson agreeing and saying hes the same, jenson saying that he needs to feel like the team and the audience wants him to perform the best and nico in a moment of like. third eye open saying genuinely you need to be loved, and them agreeing that on some level all the drivers need to be loved and coddled a bit

so is it ever addressed again that percy could like possibly kill a god? like do we ever again talk about how strong he really is ? or how traumatized? because i just remembered that scene in house of hades where he scared the shit out of annabeth by making that goddess choke on her own poison
(which i found more than necessary literally calm down annabeth he’s trying to avenge you guys)
and then they like don’t really address it and i just feel as though nico, percy, and annabeth have too much shared trauma for it to not be talked about again i guess ? it seems having this type of experience together percy and annabeth would be weirdly codependent now or something? or possibly the opposite. and then also become even closer with nico than they already are bc as we know he went through it alone, but then i think maybe that would become too dark for kids books? but it also seems a shame if it’s not explored. i’d say harry porter is surprisingly dark to me at times for books marketed toward kids since i’m just now reading/watching for the first time so it’s not as if it’s never been done.
it just seems like the emotional fall out of tartarus would be more prominent but also i just love angst so maybe i’m extra lmao but it just seems wasteful to have that possibility of a storyline and not use it, there’s literally so much good material there.

After Blake’s own injury’s she’s so hyper aware and sensitive about injuries. She must’ve had such a difficult time when both Nico and Jack were injured and then seeing Luke get hurt at last nights game.
this!!!
after her injury, nobody really anticipated how she would react when her siblings, nico, anyone she knows gets injured
a few months after her injury, her parents encouraged her to watch a game with them and she agrees. jack gets hit HARD. and he’s slow to get up
blake feels like she’s back in that arena all those months ago, pain shooting up her back as she sobbed out in pain.
she’s having vivid flashbacks to her fall, and she starts hyperventilating but her parents don’t realize what’s happening because jack finally gets up off the ice.
when they turn their attention to blake, she’s shaking and there’s tears streaming down her face. they can see the cameras start to focus on the family’s reaction to the hit and so now they’re trying to shield blake from everyone while also trying to calm her down
they leave the game early, and while blake rests her parents come up with a plan to get her into extra therapy sessions + find programs that can help support her.
a few years after her injury she’s made a lot of progress in her mental health journey, but injuries still affect her.
like with nico, her anxieties and traumas make her step away from him. she doesn’t want to suffocate him, and she’s so worried that she’ll say or do the wrong thing or maybe make his injury worse by being around him? (her coaches were always manipulating her and so sometimes she has this warped sense of reality where she doesn’t know how to properly process/react to things. like they’d blame her for all of her injuries and not take responsibilities for their abusive tactics, etc.)
so a big thing in their relationship is to communicate and listen to each other. nico is always super accommodating to blake’s struggles and he’s always there to reassure her that she’s not hurting or going to hurt him.
anyway, with her siblings it’s a little different. whenever they get injured she sees herself in them. she recalls her injury and she gets so stressed / upset that they’re going to get seriously hurt and maybe even have to end their careers prematurely.
she struggles a lot when it comes to the people she loves being injured, but everyone’s super understanding and patient with her healing process. everyone makes sure to call or show her that they’re fine, going to get better, etc. there’s a lot of therapy and heart to hearts with family/nico for sure.

Not to get pedantic (oh who am i kidding that’s most of this blog) but I am genuinely fascinated by the potential applications of the established canon in HoO and TOA that the gods canonically have both historic and regional forms, and can appear as specific versions of those forms and have kids of those specific forms, which influence what powers the kid has/what pantheon they fall under/etc etc (and also the implication that demigods can be born under multiple forms of a singular deity). This is somewhat backed up even earlier in the first series when we’re told that Percy has earthquake powers because of his father being Poseidon “The Earthshaker” (which is Mycenaean Poseidon) - which could also tie into why Percy generally takes leadership roles, is hopping in and out of the Underworld a lot, and is apparently particularly powerful for even just a Big 3 kid, since all that would line up with Mycenaean Poseidon being generally put at the head of the pantheon and also being a chthonic deity.
Now this gets really interesting when we start looking at deities being combined and conflated, because a.) the Romans weren’t the only ones doing that and b.) the Romans had their own gods originally, they didn’t just take the Greek ones and slap a new name on them. They merged a lot with their own preexisting deities alongside adopting worship of deities from other cultures as the Romans spread (and the Greeks also did this), and c.) the ancient Greeks and Romans did exist at the same time.
Like, we know in terms of the Greeks and Romans that if their godly parents are “equivalent” then their demigod children are siblings, just like if Greek demigods have the “same” godly parent then they are also siblings. However, very few Greco-Roman gods are one-to-one, and a lot are like three gods in a trench coat, and then if you want to get into historical forms then you can start running into weird things like “Well, if you go back far enough, these two Greek gods may have originated from the same thing-” and also if we’re talking historical forms, again, the Greeks and Romans existed at the same time! Which means there would be historic forms of godly parents that are both Greek and Roman! So like, where do we go from there? Would Hazel be equally siblings to a child of Plutus as she is to Nico because both Hades and Plutus were conflated into Pluto? Orcus was also conflated with Pluto - does that mean when Nico killed Bryce Lawrence, he was killing his half-brother? (cause then that parallels just a couple chapters later when Will faces off against Octavian-) Are there demigods who, depending on their godly parents’ form(s), are technically both a Greek and Roman demigod? If Hermes and Pan possibly originated from the same god, does that mean all the satyrs are siblings with the Hermes kids? If we want to get into all the nonsense of Dionysus’ origins and Zagreus and Hades, does that mean Nico is technically siblings with Dionysus kids? Does Dionysus joke about this during their therapy sessions? Are some demigods in certain cabins siblings with kids in other cabins but each others’ siblings aren’t siblings depending on what form their godly parents were in?
I have a headache now.

inspired by @sionisjaune's tags and THIS nico in glasses art by the incredibly talented @movieboyfriend
Becoming a sports psychologist had been easier than Nico expected.
All he needed was a bachelor's, which he already had, and a Masters' degree which took 18 months and submitting a paper on eating disorders to achieve. Board certification was annoying, Nico just doesn't have that kind of time, but the workaround was simply calling himself a 'performance enchancing counselor.' A corner office in Monaco, a shiny plaque with his name on it, and a star studded roster of athletes and C-list celebrities he'd hosted parties for during his influencer days for potential clientele, he was all set.
F1 hadn't been the goal but at the same time... who better than Nico, who knew exactly how motorsport could chew you out? His karting dreams were long over, but the smell of gasoline and burnt tyres and the roar of the crowd is still his forte. It just so happened Formula One decided mental health awareness was totally in style now, and one of their main sponsors held an event on mindfulness and how it can be achieved drinking more Heineken. Having a father for a World Champion is helpful, when it means one has lifetime passes, and this had been a prime networking goldmine; not for the drivers themselves and their fragile egos at the implication of psychological help -- but sliding his practice's embossed gold card in the suit jacket of one Toto Wolff.
Lewis saw therapy as something good and necessary, but ultimately for other people. And then Abu Dhabi happened. And then the W-13. And Toto had mentioned what Keke Rosberg's son was up to, how it could possibly help him out of his slump, and hearing that name after so long made Lewis' usual 'thanks but not for me' die at the tip of his tongue.
"I'm not going to imply whether all your issues stem from trying to make your father proud or ask you about your childhood. I would remember. I was there." Nico had smiled over his thin-rimmed circular glasses, with that knowing sparkle during their first unofficial session and Lewis was sold.
"As long as you don't expect me to call you 'doctor,' man. Jeez, who would've thought? Dr. Nico Rosberg."
After that, every week unless he's in LA, Lewis finds himself in Nico's chic Monaco office. It's not stuffy like a therapist's office; a turquoise wall and Nico's dad's helmet is on a shelf display, a German national Team jersey hanging on the wall, there's even a YouTube million subscribers golden plate. Lewis is sprawled on the bean bag, the sunlight from the floor to ceiling windows hitting in beams, and not for the first time Lewis has to reconcile the kid he knew has grown up into the adult in distinguished glasses and same golden blonde hair in front of him. Nico dresses like he's about to give a TedTalk, in his monochrome tee and blazer combo, and that somehow puts Lewis more at ease.
"The car's been so fucking shit. I'm not here to fight for, what, p10? That's not me. And the team..." Lewis rants, and it's so freeing to be able to call the car shit without adding in how they're improving bit by bit and other optimistic platitudes that don't mean shit in terms of the championship.
"And the team's been prioritizing Russell over you, I can see how that can be a source of frustration." Nico finishes.
"What? No. He's not -- the team's not. I'm saying, it's annoying enough the car isn't where we were promised it was gonna be, and now every week I'm getting asked if I want to retire, like what's this all for?" Lewis is momentarily taken aback by Nico's claim. Is that what people think? The team... well, George has adapted to the car easier and has been finishing above him but he hadn't felt any particular favouritism from the team... Although he's been the one running experimental setups and helping the team collect data while his teammate gets dubbed Mr. Saturday. The seed of doubt towards the team makes him frown.
"You don't want to retire. Not until the 8th." Nico points out decisively, getting up from his armchair to walk behind Lewis where his plants are.
"I don't. Even if no one believes me, apparently." Lewis rolls his eyes, hearing as Nico spritzes his plants. He could've sworn they were fake.
Lewis feels a hand on his shoulder, surprising him. "You're just going to have to prove them wrong. Like you always do." Nico smiles down at him with absolute conviction, squeezing it once, and then the weight is gone; Nico moving back to his chair.
The gesture was friendly, but it makes something flare inside Lewis. Something about Nico, maybe the fact he can open up to him the way he can't even with the team; maybe because Nico knew him before seven titles, before he was anyone, makes Lewis instinctively trust him in a way he rarely does with new people. But Nico isn't new, even if the glasses are. Lewis finds himself wanting to know more, wanting to fill the gap between the years.
"Now, let's go over your daily mindfulness affirmations..."

Nico: I’m gonna play a new drinking game. Every time I’m depressed I’ll take a drink.
Jason, gently taking the bottle out his hands: Yeah, that game already exists. It’s called alcoholism.

also, since i feel bad about making you guys wait so long and i'm also not 100% sure if i'll manage a chapter before sunday (will be trying, but it's been a whileDJSD) here's a snippet of what i've already written!
and a little update on the chapter, i've got like.. 1/6 of it done? ish? and i def could've written more earlier but instead i spent an hour planning and outlining one of nico's future music videos with @wronghuntress
it's a very cool mv and i am very proud of it and just like the details and aesthetics of the next few albums are ahghsldkjsldfj im so so excited for you guys to seee!! i feel like i should be making pinterest boards for these. but that's my brain derailing me again. i will do that over summer.
so!! snippet!!
They decide on the end of July for the rescheduled concerts. Partly because it gives Nico a little over two months to mentally prepare, partly because Will has a summer class in June so he’d be able to travel with them in July (along with Leo, who invited himself along too), and partly because it worked with Alex’s schedule.
Until then, though, there turns out to be a lot to get done.
Will’s rescheduled finals have been all finished by the end of May. Apollo has set up a series of job interviews for the three main people he’s decided they need—a publicist, a tour manager, and an assistant for him (that last one was pushed for by Nico, and then Will as well, and because Apollo isn’t able to resist their combined efforts, it worked)—throughout the last week of May and early June. The Archery World Championships are from the tenth to the sixteenth, in the Netherlands, and the entire family will be there to watch Kayla.
From there on, it’s studio work, studio work, and more studio work throughout the rest of June. It’s a lot of therapy. It’s some secret project that Apollo keeps obviously working on, but is clearly attempting to hide the evidence of. Nico doesn’t know whether he should be concerned, but his eye bags have faded slightly, and he’s returned to styling his hair rather than throwing it up in a bun, so Nico thinks that’s a good sign.
The New York estate doesn’t have a proper studio—at least, not as good as Apollo’s house in LA. Still, it has the basics, including a mic, a computer with some audio editing software that Nico’s familiar with, and a keyboard, so while Will is studying and out taking his exams, Nico is there.
For once, he feels like he doesn’t have much to write about the situation. It scares him for a bit when first walking into the studio, expecting to open his phone to an extensive list of depressing lyrics, only to find nothing.
He tells Mr. D that during their next therapy session. There’s no concrete answer, because Nico isn’t quite sure what exactly prompts him to spill out his thoughts in lyric form usually, but Mr. D had suggested the idea that instead of falling straight to the conclusion and having to sort out his thoughts, he was instead stuck in a sort of paralysis while Will was in the hospital, and then immediately talked out his feelings in person rather than on paper afterward.
Nico supposes that it makes sense. But that doesn’t stop him from rushing to the studio as soon as he’s sure Will won’t ‘accidentally’ overwork himself once left alone for over an hour—just to see if there really isn’t anything left to say.
It turns out, there is. There always is. But the songs that he writes now feel more self-deprecating and slightly relieved rather than the accusatory, grieving tones of the rest of the album. And besides, he thinks that he’s too close to a possible release date (or, at least, the beginning of the promotional singles process) to be planning an entirely new series of songs.
He still writes them, of course. They’ll just have to remain in lyric form, for now, though.

I just feel like Dionysus has a bias towards Nico tho lol. Lester notes how Nico gets to sit with the god. He actually gets his name right. He gives him therapy sessions. He’s cranky because Nico doesn’t listen to him. It’s just funny.
I read somewhere Dionysus actually favors Nico because he called the god “Wine dude” and practically fanboy-ed over him when he was little. It’s extremely fun to read. Really.

I think Nico would be scared of Will. Not in AHHH!!! MEAN AND DANGEROUS PERSON COMING TO KILL ME!! way, but because he is so nice. Will would make him a cup of tea when he was tired, apologize after he got mad and yelled, walk him places, and ask before hugging him, all that stuff. Nico would care for Will too, but something about it would leave him on edge.
The thing is, Nico is used to being hated, and people only interacting with him because they want something. He's used to the bare minimum. So with all that overwhelming love coming from Will... he goes to hide out with Reyna in camp Jupiter for a while.
Maybe he would stay for a day or two until she figured out what was wrong and talked some sense into him. Cue the teary reunion and confessions with Will and booking an extra therapy session with Dionysus.
After that, Nico would still be scared of Will's love. But little by little, he would be getting better.
