Ahsoka Episode 8 “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord”: The Story, the Symbolism, and the Score Part One
As the episode begins, we hear sinister drumming, then a low rumbling as the cargo transfer to the Chimaera is completed. Thrawn orders the dispatch of two TIE fighters. Sinister music plays as Morgan receives the “gift of shadows.” As she makes her pledge to the sisterhood and the old ways, Morgan’s Theme (the Nightsister Theme) is heard. Morgan’s eyes glow green and then turn black as power is transferred to her by the Nightmothers. Morgan receives the Blade of Talzin, a reference to the sword used by Mother Talzin in The Clone Wars animated series.
Thrawn’s Theme plays triumphantly as the Ahsoka title card and the episode title appear onscreen: “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord.” This title is an obvious reference to C. S. Lewis’ novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and it isn’t the first reference to Lewis’ Narnia books in the Filoniverse. The World Between Worlds itself was inspired by Lewis’ “wood between the worlds” which allows passage across time and space to other worlds.
Tumblr media
The title of the episode does have a deeper meaning, but this may not be apparent until one has watched and fully understood what the episode is really about. The “Jedi” in the title is Ahsoka, who corresponds to Lewis’ Aslan, the magnificent golden lion who is the Christ-figure in the Narnia books, not unlike Tolkien’s Gandalf. The “Witch” in the title is Morgan Elsbeth and all of the evil that she and the White Witch of Narnia represent. The “Warlord” is Thrawn, who will travel between the galaxies just as the magic wardrobe in the Narnia books allowed passage between the worlds. Lewis’ novel is about many things, but at its core, it is a story about redemption. In the novel, young Edmund Pevensie, in his selfish desire for Turkish Delight, makes an a dangerous alliance with the White Witch and betrays his siblings to get what he wants. He later regrets this betrayal and repents of his selfishness. However Edmund’s debt must be paid. Instead of dying a traitor’s death, Aslan is sacrificed in Edmund’s place. The White Witch slays the Lion, but due to the Deep Magic from before the dawn of time, Aslan resurrects triumphantly and defeats the Witch.
Sabine Wren, whose all-to-human desire to be reunited with Ezra Bridger, led her to make an alliance with Baylan Skoll in episode 4 of the Ahsoka series. Sabine didn’t destroy the star-map because of her selfish desire to see Ezra again, and by making this choice, she set in motion the return of Thrawn and the possibility of another galactic war. By making this selfish but understandable choice, Sabine failed as a Jedi. As in Edmund’s story, Sabine is on a journey towards redemption for what she’s done.
Tumblr media
The next scene is of Ahsoka’s ship hovering low above the traveling Noti pods. Onboard the ship Huyang and Ezra bicker as Ezra constructs a new lightsaber for himself.
“Who taught you how to build a lightsaber anyway?” Huyang asks.
“Kanan Jarrus,” replies Sabine Wren from the doorway of the workshop. She smiles at Ezra.
Tumblr media
“He was my master,” Ezra says, his glance lingering upon Sabine for a moment. “He taught me everything I know.”
Tumblr media
Quiet music accompanies this conversation. When Huyang says that the relationship between master and apprentice is as challenging as it is meaningful, the camera pulls in closer to reveal Sabine’s expression, which shows sadness and even remorse.
A quiet rendition of Sabine’s Theme is heard as Ezra completes the construction of his new lightsaber. When Ezra asks “Hey Sabine, Ahsoka ever teach you how to…?” he turns to looks at her and sees that she is gone.
Ezra asks Huyang what happened between Sabine and Ahsoka. Huyang tells Ezra about the Purge of Mandalore, and that Ahsoka felt that if Sabine unlocked her potential at that time she would become dangerous.
Sabine exits the ship to talk with Ahsoka who is sitting atop the shuttle as it hovers. Soft strings accompany the conversation. Ahsoka’s Theme is heard, which is then followed by Sabine’s Theme played by cellos. Ahsoka knows what Sabine did but says that she will be there for her no matter what happens next. They discuss whether Sabine has kept up with her training.
“Being a Jedi isn’t about wielding a lightsaber,” Ahsoka explains. “Train your mind. Train your body. Trust in the Force.”
Ezra exits the ship, announcing that he just finished building his new lightsaber.
The music is much louder as two TIE fighters open fire upon them and the Noti caravan. Ahsoka’s ship takes a hit. Ahsoka and Ezra levitate it to save the Noti from being crushed. Sabine and Huyang attempt to pilot the damaged ship. On Sabine’s signal, Ezra and Ahsoka hurl the ship towards the two TIEs and the wings of the T-6 shuttle clip them, destroying both of their attackers. Ezra and Ahsoka run to the site of the crashed T-6.
“Got ‘em” Sabine says to them after exiting the smoking shuttle. She surveys the damage to the Noti pods. Ezra remarks that this will slow them down a bit, but Ahsoka responds “only if we let it.”
End of part one. To be continued! Let me know what you think of this analysis so far. It’s going to be a long one.

i actually think in certain kinds of fantasy you shouldn’t make the world round, or at least not a sphere floating in space obeying regular orbital mechanics. i think that invites considering the universe from a more SF-type perspective than a fantasy one, and anyway, part of the fun of fantasy is experimenting with exotic cosmologies. middle-earth is round only because it is an imagined past of our world (and it didn’t start out that way); narnia has an edge; i don’t think the world is asoiaf has a canonical geometry, but it could be almost anything, its author doesn’t have a great sense of scale anyway
bonus: if your world is flat, like Discworld, you don’t have to futz with map projections!

The Daughter of Poseidon: Chapter Eight
Tumblr media
Della didn’t want to leave Leo, it reminds her too much of her first quest when Percy and Annabeth had to leave her and Grover with Aries. Although Della is sure that like that quest it would be fine.
As they climb the icy staircase, Zethes stays behind them, his blade drawn. The guy may look like a Village People reject, but there was nothing funny about his sword. Della figures one hit from that thing and she’ll have a Narnia: The Witch, The Lion, and The Wardrobe moment.
Then there’s their tour guide, the ice princess. Here and there she’ll turn her head at Jason and give a smile, but there was no warmth in her expression. She looks him up and down like he is a new exciting specimen.
If these are Boreas’s kids, Della isn’t sure they want to meet Dad. She remembers Annabeth told her Boreas was the easy-going wind god. Which is code for, he won’t try to kill you on the spot.
Warmth engulfs her hand. Della glances down to see Jason’s hand in her own. She gives him a reassuring smile.
“Hey,” she squeezes his hand. “It’ll be fine. Just a talk.”
Jason smiles back at her.
Gods, he’s gorgeous.
Suddenly Jason’s hand felt cold, burning cold. He let go, and their fingers were smoking with frost.
“Warmth is not a good idea,” the Ice Princess says, “Especially when I am your best chance of staying alive.
Piper shoots them a look. She keeps her face neutral, but her eyes give it all away. Hurt.
Della sighs and attempts to rub the frost off her hand. She knows that look all too well.
Zethes pokes Jason in the back, and they follow the Princess down the massive hallway.
Freezing winds blew back and forth. If they weren’t frozen, the tapestries on the wall would’ve followed the rhythm.
Della’s cheeks were starting to burn from how cold they were. Jason looks more nervous than before. Della wants to grab his hand again, but her fingers still haven’t recovered from the first attempt.
“Wonder Boy,” I whisper, “You still with me?”
“Yeah…yeah, sorry.”
At the end of the hallway, the trio finds themselves in front of a set of oaken doors engraved with a map of the world. In each corner was a man’s bearded face blowing wind. All the guys were winter, blowing ice and snow all around the world.
The Ice Princess turns. Her brown eyes glitter with excitement as though she was about to open a Christmas present.
“This is the throne room,” she says, “Be on your best behavior Jason Grace. My father can be…chilly. I will translate for you and try to encourage him to hear you out. I do hope he spares you. We could have so much fun.”
Della narrows her eyes. Something is off. If Boreas needs a translator…how could they trust Elsa here to speak on their behalf? She opens her mouth–
“Um, okay,” Jason says, “We’re just here for a talk. We’ll be leaving right afterward.”
She smiles. “Ah, I love heroes so blissfully ignorant.”
Della reaches for Leda. She sees Piper has her dagger close as well.
“Well, how about you enlighten us,” Piper says, “You say you are going to translate for us. We don’t even know your name.”
The girl sniffs in distaste. “I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised you don’t recognize me. Even in ancient Greek times, the Greeks did not know me well. Their island homes were too warm, too far from my domain. I am Khione, daughter of Boreas, Goddess of Snow.”
She stirs the air with her finger creating a flurry of snow around her.
“Now come,” says Khione. The doors blow open, and a cool blue light filters out of the room. “Hopefully, you survive your talk.”
If the entry hall had been cold, the throne room was a meat locker. Mist hung in the air. Along the walls purple tapestries depict snowy forests, barren mountains, and glaciers. High above, ribbons of light–the Aurora Borealis pulses along the ceiling.
Della shivers at the violent change in temperature. Her breath pans out like hot steam.
All around them stood life-sized sculptures–all in different eras of armor. Some wore Greek, others Medevil, and the most unsettling were the ones in modern camoflague They all were frozen with their weapons locked and loaded.
Why would they have military sculptures–
Jason tries to move between two Greek spearmen, and they all move with alarming speed, joints cracking and spraying icicles as they cross their javelins to block their path.
Della pulls Jason back by his collar and places a hand to keep Piper in place.
“What the–”
From the far end of the hall, a man’s voice rings out, he sounds…French. Due to the mist, Della doesn’t see him. Whatever he said the ice guards uncrossed their javelins.
“It’s fine,” Khione says, “My father ordered them not to kill you yet.”
Yet, the keyword in that sentence.
“Super,” Jason mutters.
The trio shuffle closer to each other.
“Keep moving Jason Junior,” Zethes says. He prods him in the back with his sword.
“Please don’t call me that.”
“My father is not a patient man,” Zethes warns, “And the beautiful Piper, sadly, is losing her magic hairdo very fast. Perhaps later I can lend her something from my wide assortment of hair products.”
“Thanks,” Piper grumbles.
They move through the mist. Suddenly, the mist parts and reveals a man on a throne made of ice. A sturdy man in a white suit and purple wings smiles at their arrival.
“Bienvenu,” the King says, “Je suis Boread le Roid. Et vous?”
Khione opens her mouth to speak when Piper steps forward.
“Votre Majesté,” Piper says, “he suis Piper McLean. Est c’est Della fille de Poseidon, and et Jason fil de Zeus.”
The King smiles with pleasant surprise. “Vous parlez francias? Trés bien!”
“Piper, you speak French?” Jason and Dell ask at the same time.
“No. Why?” Piper frowns.
“You just did,” Della tells her.
“I did?”
The king says something else in French.
Piper nods, “Oui, Vorte Majesté”
The king laughs and claps his hands, obviously delighted. He says a few more things and then motions to his daughter as if shooing a bird.
Khione looks miffed. “The king says–”
“He says I’m the daughter of Aphrodite,” Piper interjects, “So naturally I can speak French, which is the language of love. I had no idea. His majesty says Khione won’t have to translate now.”
Thank the gods.
Behind them, Zethes snorts. Khione sends him a death glare and takes a step back.
The king sizes up Jason, who decides to bow.
“Your Majesty, I am Jason Grace. Thank you, for umm, not killing us. May I ask why does a Greek God speak French?”
Piper has another exchange with the king.
“He speaks the language of his host country,” Piper says, “He says all gods do this. Most gods speak English, as they now reside in the United States, but Boreas was never welcomed in their realm. These days he likes Quebec, so he likes to speak French.”
Boreas says something else, and Piper turns pale.
“The king says…he says–”
“Allow me,” Khione says, “My father says he has orders to kill you. Did I not mention that earlier?”
Della tenses. She glances at Jason who moves closer to her and Piper just as tense.
The king looks pleased with himself and his proclamation.
“Kill us? Why?” Jason asks.
“Because,” the king says, in heavily accented English, “my lord Aeolus has commanded it.”
Boreas rose from his throne. He furls his wings back and approaches them.
Khione and Zethes bow. Della, Jason, and Piper follow their example.
“I shall deign to speak your language,” Boreas says, as Piper McLean has honored me in mine. Toujours. I have always held a fondness for the children of Aphrodite. And I must say, a daughter of Poseidon is a rare sight indeed. At least, a human one. As for you, Jason Grace, my master would not expect me to kill a son of Zeus…at least without hearing him out first.”
Della does not like the odds of this possible fight. Sure, she could handle most of the guards and Zethes with Jason’s help. Khione would be a problem as well. Goddess of snow also meant the ability of ice…ice is water so it’d be somewhat fair. Even if they got through them they’d still have to fight a god.
“Aeolus is the master of the winds, right?” Jason asks. “Why would he want us dead?”
“You are demigods,” Boreas says as if that explains everything. “Aeolus’ job is to maintain the winds, and demigods have always caused him headaches. They ask him for favors. They unleash the winds and cause chaos,” Boreas pauses. He looks directly at Della. “The final insult was last summer the battle with Typhon last summer.”
Della tenses. She tries to forget about Mount St. Helens as much as she can. That was the first time Della and Percy’s powers forged together properly and they released a Titan.
Boreas waves his hand and a sheet of ice like a flat-screen TV appears in the air. Images of a battle flicker across the screen–a giant wrapped in storm clouds wading across a river toward the Manhatten skyline. Tiny glowing figures–the gods–swarm around him like angry wasps, pounding the monster with lightning and fire. Finally, the river erupts in a massive whirlpool and the smoky form sank beneath the waves.
“The storm giant, Typhon,” Boreas explains. “The gods defeated him, eons ago, he did not die quietly. His death released a host of storm spirits–wild winds that answered to no one. It was Aeolus’s job to track them all down and imprison them in his fortress. The other gods–they did not help. They didn’t even apologize for the inconvenience. It took Aeolus centuries to track them all down, and that naturally irritated him. Then last summer when he was defeated–”
“And his death released another wave of venti,” Jason guesses. “Which made Aeolus even angrier.”
“C’est vrai,” Boreas agrees.
“But Your Majesty,” Piper says, “the gods had no choice but to battle Typhon, or else Olympus would have been destroyed. Why punish–”
“Because it was demigods who released him,” Della interrupts.
Boreas looks at her, “And one of them stands before me.”
Jason and Piper’s heads snap towards Della.
She looks down at her feet. Damn, her past actions were kicking her in the ass right now.
“Aeolus cannot take his anger out on the gods,” Boreas shrugs, “They are his bosses, and very powerful. So he gets even with their heroes from the war. He’d be very pleased to see your demise, Adella Jackson. He gave the orders that any demigods who ask for help are to be,” Boreas waves his hands dramatically, “destroyed.”
“That seems extreme,” Jason says. “I’m sure Della didn’t mean to unleash Typhon. Please don’t destroy us. Once you hear about our quest–”
“Yes Aeolus mentioned mentioned a son of Zeus would seek my aid and if this should happen I should listen before terminating you–as you might–how did he put it? Make our lives more interesting. I am only obligated to listen. After that, I am free to pass judgment how I see fit. But I will listen first. Khione wishes this also. It may be that we will not kill you.”
Della sighs a little in relief. There’s a catch she knows it.
“Great. Thanks,” Jason says.
“Don’t thank me yet,” Boreas says, “There are many ways you could make our lives interesting. Sometimes we keep demigods for our amusement, as you can see.”
He gestures to the frozen guards in the room.
Della sighs, some demigods met a fate worse than death. This was one of those fates.
Piper makes a strangled noise,“You mean–they’re all demigods? Frozen demigods? They’re alive?”
“An interesting question,” Boreas conceded as though he’s never really thought about it. “They do not move unless they're obeying my orders. The rest of the time, they are frozen in place. Unless they were to melt, I suppose, which would be very messy.”
Khione steps up behind Jason and caresses the back of his neck. “My father gives me such lovely presents,” she murmurs in his ear. Della wants to cut her to pieces with her sword. “Join our court. Perhaps I’ll let your friends go.”
“What?” Zethes booms, “If Khione gets to keep the boy, I should get to keep the girls. Khione always gets more presents!”
“Now children,” Boreas says sternly, “Our guests will think you are spoiled! Besides, you moved too fast. We have not even heard the demigod’s story yet. Then we will decide what to do with them. Please, Jason Grace, entertain us.”
Khione purs and strokes the back of Jason’s neck again. Suddenly electricity sparks against his skin. There’s a loud pop, and Khione flies backward, skidding on the floor.
Della smiles amused that she doesn’t need to make Khione fish food.
Zethes laughs, “That is good! I’m glad you did that, even though I have to kill you now.”
Khione looks stunned. When she got her bearings back the air around her began to swirl in a micro-blizzard. “You dare–”
“Stop,” Jason orders. “You’re not going to kill us. And you’re not going to keep us either. We’re on a quest for the Queen of the Gods herself, so unless you want Hera busting down your doors, you are going to let us go.”
He sounds more confident than he probably feels. Something Della is sure he has experience in. Sound braver than you are. The first lesson every demigod learns. And it did the trick. Khione’s blizzard swirls to a stop, and Zethes lowers his sword. They look uncertainly at their father.
“Hmmm,” Boreas says. His eyes twinkle, but Della is not sure if he’s actually amused or pissed off. “A son of Zeus favored by Hera? This is definitely a first. Tell us your story.”
Jason hesitates, he opens his mouth but doesn’t speak. He did not expect to make it this far.
Della jumps in, “Your Majesty.”
All eyes are on her.
Della cursties before the wind god. She tells Boreas the entire story. From her missing brother to the venti in the Grand Canyon, to the prophecy. Jason and Piper gape at her story-telling skills. She is calm and collected for a woman whose life is on the line. This wasn’t her first rodeo.
“All we ask for is guidance,” Della concludes, “The storm spirits that attacked Jason and Piper, are working for an evil mistress. If we find them maybe, just maybe we can find Hera.”
Boreas strokes his beard. Outside the windows night had fallen, and the only light came from the Aurora Borealis above casting the room in shades of red and blue.
“You had no idea what you unleashed that day did you girl? Boreas asks. His eyes bore into Della.
“No,” Della sighs, “My brother and I had no idea what the repercussions of that day would bring.”
“I see,” Boreas says, “I do know of these spirits. I know where they are kept, and the prisoner they took.”
“You mean Coach Hedge?” Jason asks, “He’s alive?”
Boreas waves aside the question, “For now. But the one who controls the storm winds…it is madness to oppose her. You’d be better off staying as statues.”
“Hera’s in trouble,” Jason says, “In three days she’s going to be–I don't know consumed, destroyed, something. And a giant will rise.”
“Yes,” Boreas agrees. He sends an angry look to his daughter. “Many horrible things are awakening. Even my children do not tell me the news they should be. The great stirring of monsters began with Kronos–your father Zeus foolishly believed it would end when the Titans were defeated. But just as it was before, so it is now. The final battle is yet to come, and the one who will wake is more terrible than any Titan. Storm spirits–this is only the beginning. The earth has more horrors to yield up. When monsters no longer stay in Tarturus and souls confined to Hades…Olympus has good reason to fear.”
What does he mean just as it was before? They were repeating history…
Khione off to the side is smiling widely like this was her definition of fun.
“So you’ll help us?” Jason asks.
“I did not say that,” Boreas scowls.
“Please, Your Majesty,” Piper says. Her voice has that..richness again..so… compelling..a true blessing of Aphrodite. “If you tell us where the storm spirits are, we can capture them and bring them to Aeolus. You’d get to look good in front of your boss. Aeolus may pardon us and future demigods. We could even rescue Gleeson Hedge, everyone wins.”
“She’s pretty,” Zethes mumbles, “I mean, she’s right.”
“Father don’t listen to her,” Khione says, “She’s a child of Aphrodite. She dares to charmspeak a god? Freeze her now!”
Charmspeak? Oh…yeah, a rare gift from Aphrodite.
Boreas considers it. Jason reaches into his pocket for his coin. Della hesitates as she reaches for Leda.
The movement caught Boreas’ eye. “What is on your forearm demigod?”
Reluctantly Jason shows the god his arm.
The god’s eyes actually widen. Khione hisses like a snake and slithers away.
Then Boreas does something very unexpected, an icicle cracks from the ceiling right next to his throne. The god’s form begins to flicker. His beard disappeared. He grew taller and thinner, and he’d changed into a Roman toga, lined with purple. He wore a frosty laurel wreath, and a gladius–a Roman sword like Jason’s hung at his side.
“Aquilion,” Jason says.
The god inclines his head. “You recognize better in this form, yes? And yet you say you came from Camp Halfblood?”
Jason shifts his feet. “Umm…yes, Your Majesty.”
“And Hera sent you there…” the god’s eyes glitter with mirth. “I understand now. Oh, she plays a dangerous game. Bold, but dangerous! No wonder Olympus is closed. They must be trembling at the gamble she has taken.”
Gamble…that’s what Circe called Della. She called her Hera’s gamble.
“Jason,” Piper says nervously. She moves closer to Jason and Della. “Why did Boreas change form? The toga…the wreath. What’s going on?”
“It’s his Roman form,” Jason says. “But what’s going on…I have no clue.”
Aquilion laughs. “I’m sure you don’t this should be interesting to watch.”
“Does this mean you’ll let us go?” Piper asks.
“My Dear,” the god says, “There is no need for me to kill you. If Hera’s plan fails, and I do believe it shall, you’ll tear each other apart for me. Aeolus will never have to worry about demigods ever again.”
Suddenly it felt like the room had gone down at least twenty degrees. Something else wrong was happening, something far bigger than Boreas letting them go or not.
“I don’t suppose you could explain?” Della asks. Though she’s starting to piece some of this together.
“Oh, perish the thought! It is not for I to interfere with Hera’s plan. No wonder she took the boy’s memory,” He laughs. He’s having a wondrous time imagining demigods tearing each other to shreds. “You know, I have a reputation as the helpful wind god. Unlike my brethren, I’ve been known to fall in love with mortals. Why my sons Zethes and Calais started as demigods–”
“Which explains why they are idiots,” Khione grumbles.
“Stop it!” Zethes bites. “Just because you were born a full goddess–”
“Both of you freeze,” Boreas says. He’d switched back to his Greek form.
Just like that the two siblings froze.
“Now as I was saying, I have a good reputation. It is rare that Boreas plays an important role in the affairs of the gods. I sit here at my palace, at the edge of civilization, and so rarely have amusements. Why even that fool Notus, the South Wind, gets spring break in Cancún. What do I get? A winter festival with naked Qúebécios in the snow!”
“I like the winter festival,” Zethes mutters.
“My point is,” Boreas snaps, “is I have not had the chance to be the center. Oh, yes, I will let you go on this quest. You will find the storm spirits in the Windy City–Chicago of course–”
“Father!” Khione protests.
Boreas ignores her. “If you capture the storm spirits, you may be able to gain entrance to the court of Aeolus. If by some miracle you succeed, be sure to tell him you captured the winds on my orders.”
“Of course Your Majesty,” Della says, “we’d be honored to comply.”
Boreas smiles at Della.
“So Chicago is where we’ll find the lady who’s controlling the winds? She’s the one who trapped Hera?” Jason asks.
“Ah, those are two different questions, Son of Jupiter,” Boreas says.
Jupiter…hmmm interesting
“The one who controls the winds,” Boreas says, “yes, you will find her in Chicago. But she is only a servant–a servant who is very likely to kill you. If you succeed against her and take the winds, then you may go to Aeolus. Only he has knowledge of all the winds of the Earth. All secrets come to his fortress eventually. If anyone can tell you where Hera is imprisoned it’s Aeolus. As for you’ll meet when you finally find Hera’s cage–trust me you’ll wish I froze you.”
“Father,” Khione protests, “You can’t just let them–”
“I can do what I like,” Boreas booms, “I am still the master here, aren’t I?”
The look he gives her it is clear there is an unspoken argument. Khione’s eyes flash with anger, she clenches her teeth.
“As you wish father.”
“Now go, demigods,” Boreas says, “before I change my mind. Zehtes escort them out safely.”
They all bow as the God of the North Wind dissolves into the mist.
Back in the entry hall, Cal and Leo stand waiting for them. Leo appears cold but unharmed. He’s even cleaned up, his clothes look newly washed as though he’d used the hotel’s valet service. Festus was once again in dragon form.
As Khione leads them down the stairs, Della notices Leo’s eyes follow the goddess. Leo starts combing his hair back with his hands. Della rolls her eyes. Boys.
At the bottom step, Khione turns to glare at Piper and Della who stand side by side. “You may have fooled my father girls, but not me. We are not done. And you, Jason Grace, I will see you as a statue in the throne room soon enough.”
“Boreas is right,” Jason says, “You are a spoiled brat. See you around, ice princess.”
Khione’s eyes flash pure white. She’s about to respond when–
“Enough you two,” Della says, “We need to go. Now.”
Khione forms ice in her hands which turns into water freezing her hands. Khione startles and looks up at Della.
Jason and Piper stare in amazement as Khione storms upstairs.
“Did you just–” Piper laughs.
“Manipulate water? Yeah, Daughter of Poseidon remember?” Della laughs.
“Be careful she never forgets an insult,” Zethes warns.
“Bad sister,” Cal agrees.
Leo looks devastated. “What happened up there? You made her mad? Is she mad at me too? Guys, that was my prom date!”
“We’ll explain later,” Piper says. The Daughter of Aphrodite looks at Jason.
Della had an idea of what happened in the throne room with Boreas shifting forms. If she was right how had they not known about all this sooner? Is this what Chiron swore on the River of Styx for?
The fact that Jason had been sent to camp amused him, and Boreas/Aquilion had not let them leave out of kindness. No, cruel amusement danced through his eyes like he’d placed a bet on a dogfight.
If Hera’s plan fails, and I do believe it shall, you’ll tear each other apart for me. Aeolus will never have to worry about demigods ever again.
Jason looks away from Piper. He’s got that look similar to when Della took him to Chiron. The look of I shouldn’t be here.
“Yeah,” he says, “we’ll explain later.”
“Be careful pretty girls,” Zethes warns, “The winds between here and Chicago are bad-tempered. Many other evil things are stirring. I’m sorry you will not be staying. You would make lovely ice statues, in which I could check my reflection.”
“Thanks,” Piper says, “But I’d sooner play hockey with Cal.”
“Hockey?” Cal’s eyes lit up.
“She’s joking,” Della says, “Those storm spirits aren’t the worst of our problems are they?”
“Oh no,” Zethes says, “Something else. Something worse.”
‘Of course it is.”
“Can you tell me?” Piper tries.
The purple-winged Boreads shook their heads. The hangar opened onto a freezing starry night sky. Festus stomps his feet anxious to fly out of there.
“Thanks anyways,” Della says.
“Aeolus knows what is worse Adella Jackson,” Zethes says darkly, “Good luck.”
If Della didn’t know better she’s say he cared about the fates they may meet. If she had to guess empathy from when he was a demigod.
Cal pats Leo on the shoulder. “Don’t get destroyed.” The longest sentence by far. “Next time hockey. Pizza.”
“Aww, see Leo this wasn’t so bad you made a friend!” Della laughs.
“Shut up Katara!”
“Come on you guys,” Jason says, “Let’s go to Chicago and not get destroyed.”

I do as much as possible. I appreciate my readers making time to say something. It takes effort on their part and I want them to know I am grateful. Equally, I get lots of fun thoughts from my readers and it's delightful to interact with people. :D
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh definitely the fic I could never write. ;D By which I mean---there was a prompt somewhere that said 'the aftermath of a scene you'll never write'. So I knew immediately what that was and ripped my own heart out to write "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night". Literally, I was ugly crying the whole time. And it convinced me that nope, I can never do this in my 'real' fics if you will. xD
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Hmmm. I am a girl who likes a happy ending. Granted, it's after kark tons of pain and suffering usually xD, but...
I think I'll land on the Dragon Speaker. I could name quite a few others, but I spent more time developing the happy aftermath so that's why I choose it.
8. Do you get hate on your fic?
I've said it before---I have some of the BEST readers. And I've had folks who've disagreed with some of my takes on character or plot, but they are welcome to do so if they are respectful and they are. It produces good conversation and perspective. I can think of one time I had someone actively unpleasant, but let's hear it for delete and block! :D
9. Do you write smut?
Nope.
10. Do you write crossovers?
No. It's just not my cup of tea.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of and I hope not. Obviously, a lot of us have similar ideas----writing is just like that. But I don't think anyone has taken my work directly. That kind of thing does get me riled up because I know the work all of us creators have done to make these stories. Don't do it, kids.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes I have and it's very fun! I have a very industrious and delightful reader who has translated a lot of my work into Russian. :D
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
I have a few times. :D
14. What‘s your all-time favourite ship?
Depends on context here. I don't read or write fics for just romance. I need purpose beyond the couple if you will. If we're talking within Star Wars then canonically it's Han and Leia. If we're going with my own fanfics it's a toss up between Mara and Max Veers and Firmus Piett and Sola Naberrie. ;D If we're talking broad literary ship Benedick and Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing.
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
WIP I will never finish? What are you talking about?
Genuinely, I hate the idea of abandoning my fics. Just can't. Some of them are taking longer than I had thought, but that's ok. Life happens. I will finish. ;D
16. What’s your writing strengths?
I think I develop character fairly well. I like to have a plot mapped out before I start writing, so I think I do all right with story cohesion and flow. I am a firm believe that you need to care about the characters more than anything else. World building and correct editing are good things, but if no one cares about your characters, it can get boring and readers lose interest.
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
A good balance of action, description, and dialogue. Dialogue is easy for me and I like the characters interacting. But action and description are very important as well to SEE the scene and I need to work on my descriptive choices. I'm also ridiculously impatient. I want to publish NOW. And this means that perhaps some needed editing or more polish/depth is overlooked. I'm working on that.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Absolutely. I've used mando'a a lot now in Star Wars. In history AUs I've dabbled a smidge in French and Latin to set the tone a bit. Definitely do your homework whether using a real or fictional language. People notice!! :D
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Haha. So in terms of more serious writing like I'm doing now, it's Star Wars.
But.
I wrote by hand in notebooks during high school for the original Star Trek. Had all kinds of crush on Pavel Chekov. xD We watched the re runs of it and I liked the movies as a kid so....
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
Oh goodness. Can that really be answered? I like them all for vastly different reasons. If we're going for world building then likely Dragon Speaker. If we're going for in depth history fun, then The War in the Shadows. If we're going for fic I saw most clearly in my brain as I wrote and LIVED it, then Showdown at Alliance Ranch. Within the ER verse, quite possibly Fidelity because writing all that courtroom drama and the intense brotherhood of Firmus and Max going through that was just so satisfying.
But over all story? Honestly can't pick just one. Sorry!

Word Count: 3740
Masterlist for the series – Caspian’s Masterlist – Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
Dalia was far from stupid.
After refusing to attend your first meeting the previous day, she was expecting Caspian to call for her and ask for explanations. It was part of the plan, actually.
Caspian was an amazing man, a great king. But he was also a little naïve sometimes, a little bit blind. She blamed it on his kind heart. He had a tendency to see the good in people before he could see the bad. And that was the cause of her worry now.
She took a deep breath before opening the door of Caspian’s private office. It was barely dawn, the light still shy, golden, almost orange in a sky tainted with pink. The Castle was waking up, servants hurrying back and forth to prepare breakfast, guards sleepily walking to take their posts. A ballet she knew by heart, that she had known all her life, growing up side by side with Caspian and the royal family.
A ballet you knew nothing about, and yet…
“Come in,” Caspian’s voice was loud and clear as it answered to her knock on his door.
Her face was unreadable as she stepped inside the room, and Caspian was not surprised. She excelled in this art of pretends, of hiding emotions and thoughts. She had been raised at court, after all, she had learnt to wear a mask, just as he had.
He hated that she still used her mask when he was around though. Despite the many years of friendship between them, it felt like she still didn’t fully trust him.
“Good morning, Dalia,” Caspian politely greeted her, but she didn’t fail to notice that his tone was colder than usual. “Take a seat.”
She complied, sitting on the opposite side of the desk. The long, wooden piece of furniture was buried under parchments, documents, maps…
Caspian had been busy. She guessed that he had tried to catch up with his duties during the night, to compensate the day he had spent with you.
She hated you for the dark bags under his eyes.
“You wanted to see me,” she spoke slowly, her voice perfectly calm and polished.
But Caspian wasn’t fooled. He knew her too well for that. And he knew about the ways of the court as much as she did. He was used to tear these masks apart now.
“You know perfectly why I’ve asked you to come this morning.”
“Let me guess… it is about your new fiancée.”
He frowned at her tone. It sounded a little cruel, disrespectful, full of disdain…
He hated it. The very sound in her voice, but now more than ever because the poison was aimed at you.
“I don’t like your tone,” he answered in a cold voice, staring intensely at her.
“I’ve never really cared…”
“You should, Dalia.”
A heavy silence settled across the room. Dalia broke it with a scoff.
“I apologize, My Liege.”
But her tone was mocking still.
“We are friends. We have been for a long time,” Caspian spoke his words slowly, with a heavy frown and a weight on each of the sounds. “But that does not mean that I am not your King. And that certainly does not mean that you can so blatantly insult me and get away with it.”
“I can hardly call sarcasm an insult.”
“You did not come yesterday. How do you call that?”
“I was sick.”
“Now, Dalia, do not play that game with me. I know you are lying.”
He was angry. He was glaring at her and she hated it. She hated every second of it. She didn’t back down though.
“Do you truly want to know why I did not come?”
“Yes, I do.”
She leaned forward a bit, coming closer to him, as to try to catch his attention and put more weight into her words.
“I believe that you should reconsider your decision about Lady Y/N.”
Caspian frowned hard.
“What?”
“You barely know each other, you are going too fast.”
“I am not…”
“There is still no treaty with Lord Cirvan and his men. And you are making things worse with their lands, refusing to marry Cirvan’s daughter to announce your future wedding less than a day later. You are making a mistake.”
But Caspian narrowed his eyes at her.
“You know perfectly well that if I made an announcement about my engagement with Y/N, it is precisely because of Lord Cirvan and his men. Because I need the assurance that he will not try to marry me off again…”
“But Caspian, this wedding presents no political advantage.”
He clenched his jaw. He was beyond angry now, and Dalia knew it. She couldn’t claim she had not been expecting this, but it still hurt to see such fire in his glare aimed at her.
He didn’t say a word though, and let her continue.
“I know that it sounds cynical, but your wedding is an incredible opportunity to build lasting alliances with other kingdoms, and powerful lords, and you are endangering our borders by acting stubborn and letting a strange girl manipulate your feelings.”
“Manipulate my feelings? Do you even hear yourself?”
“I do. And I know what I am saying. You are a King, Caspian. Women try to seduce you for the throne every day.”
“Y/N is different.”
“Because she made you believe in one of the old fairy tales? The great love stories? Those are good for Doctor Cornerlius’s books, not for us who are dealing with real politics. You are making a mistake by wanting to marry this stupid girl…”
She fell instantly silent when Caspian stood up, jaw clenched and eyes glaring.
“I understand your worry about politics and Lord Cirvan,” Caspian spoke, words slow and voice deep, clearly struggling to remain calm. He was leaning over his desk, palms resting on the map splayed across the wood. “But, Dalia, I will not have you insult Y/N, do you understand?”
“You are being manipulated…”
“I am not,” Caspian answered, voice firm and decisive. “You do not know Y/N, you have spent less than an hour with her. Why do you not trust me on this?”
“Caspian… you are King. People will try to manipulate you. Does it not sound strange to you that all of a sudden this woman has fallen madly in love with you, in barely more than a month, and has decided to leave everything behind to join you here, in Narnia? Do you not think it weird that she might leave her ordinary and rather pointless life behind without thinking for a second about the fact that you are King? Do you not think that it is precisely the reason why she did this? She left because she could become a queen. And you were too foolish to see it. Blinded by… I do not even know what could have blinded you… she seems completely ordinary.”
Dalia fell silent, waiting for Caspian’s reaction. She hoped she could shake some sense into his head. She hoped she could make him see that you were not fit to be queen. What by Aslan’s name was he doing? You had worked together so hard to get him there, as a stable king on a Narnian throne, and now he was falling into such a silly trap?
He stared at her with eyes of stone, icy cold. She searched through her memories but didn’t remember him ever looking at her this way. Of course, after so many years, they had fought countless times, he had been angry against her before. But she had never seen such a rage, it was mingled with something protective that she hated, because you were the source of it.
“You know nothing of Y/N, Dalia,” Caspian repeated in this same slow tone of his. “She has given up on everything to come here…”
“That is what I am saying! If not for the throne, then why should she come?”
But he frowned, a little taken aback now.
“Because she loves me, Dalia.”
He let out a wry laugh.
“So, do you really think me such an awful man that no one could love me for who I am? That the only reason anyone has ever showed any interest in me is because I am King? Well, thank you for the compliment…”
She shook her head, her expression softening.
“That is not what I meant, and you know it.”
“Then why is it so difficult for you to imagine that Y/N has chosen to come here because she loves me? Nothing else. Dalia, do you realize what it means for her? She has left everything and everyone she has ever known, she has been thrown into another world she knows nothing about and is so different from her own… If she wanted money or power she could have tried to earn those in her world and it would have required less sacrifices from her. She came because she loves me. And I love her, Dalia. I love her more than anything. Had I not been King, I would have not come back to Narnia.”
Her eyes grew round.
“What?”
“I came back here because I am King. Because my people needs me. Because I cannot abandon Narnians. Because Aslan, Eustace, Peter, Lucy, Edmund and Susan trusted me to take care of this land, because my father died for this… But without this responsibility, without so many people I would have failed by leaving for good… I would have stayed with her in New York. I love her enough for that. I understand her choice, Dalia. I would have done the same, but I couldn’t.”
He let out a deep, worried sigh as he stood straighter again. He seemed tired more than angry now. Dalia hated seeing him like this. She wished she could take all his worry away.
Still, when he walked around his desk to stand next to her, leaning against the piece of furniture, his presence was still reassuring, strong, kingly. He ran a hand through his hair to brush the strands away from his eyes, and she wished she could have been the one to tame the rebellious strands…
She remembered how soft his hair was. She had touched the gentle strands a couple of times, always thanks to a silly excuse, always hidden behind a lie. There was something in his hair, it wasn’t tied properly… no matter the lies, they were worth it.
Did he let you touch his hair as much as you wanted?
“Dalia, I know what I am doing. I want to marry Y/N. I have never been more certain of anything in my entire life. She loves me. She loves me, for who I am. She loves me despite the crown, do you understand? She is terrified by all this. By the Narnians, by this place, by our ways, by the prospect of having so many responsibilities and power over people... She is not craving it, Dalia, she is afraid of it. And I need your help, I need you to show her our ways so this place can become her home too. And I love her, Dalia. I know that marrying her will not fit into any kind of political scheme, and I do not want it to. I love her, and that is enough. Do you understand?”
Slowly, she nodded, but she didn’t seem convinced. And indeed, she wasn’t. When he asked for her help again, she nodded anyway, promised to be more open-minded, to give you a chance.
But she had no chance to offer you. Not when Caspian looked so handsome in the early light of dawn…
Tumblr media
“Alright, let us go through this again, shall we?”
Doctor Cornelius was kind and patient, and you felt grateful for him being your first teacher. So far though, you felt a little stupid.
You knew a few things about Narnia, because of what Agatha told you back in New York, because of Caspian’s stories… But their tales did not include any concrete information about Narnia, about their custom, about their land…
It was an awful lot to take in.
First, you were taught about Narnian currencies, basis of geography, and the current relations with other kingdoms and lands surrounding Narnia. Later on, you would be taught about Narnian laws and traditions.
“Dalia will smoothen up your manners to fit the court,” the old teacher had told you. “But I will make sure you understand what is happening around you, and that no one will make a fool of you during a conversation.”
Tough job, indeed… because as you tried to memorize the list of names set before you, you felt utterly brainless.
You had been working for almost four hours now. There was a bright sun outside, happy and inviting, but you were stuck there, in this dusty room, with a terrible headache…
And you felt like you would never make it. Never be ready…
You started as the doors of the library opened, and you recognized Ammos accompanying lord Baras and Luis towards your table. You struggled to swallow…
… they could only mean trouble.
You offered them a warm smile anyway, and they bowed before you.
You were unsure how to react, but Lord Baras spoke before you could decide what to do or say.
“My Lady. I see that you are busy this morning.”
Small talk. It called for something more important, and you assumed, less pleasant as well. You cautiously nodded.
“Yes, Professor Cornelius is helping me learn about Narnian ways.”
“It must be quite overwhelming.”
“Quite,” you admitted.
But your voice was cautious. You were new to Narnia, but you were not an idiot. Baras smelled of trouble. His smile was too sweet not to, too honeyed, as if it would turn sour soon.
“It is noon already, My Lady. Lord Luis and I wondered if you would like to join us for lunch. I am afraid our King is busy today, but we do not want you to feel too lonely for your first days in Narnia.”
You looked for an excuse to refuse, but couldn’t find any. You didn’t want to let anything slip that could compromise Caspian in any way. He had warned you that the court could be ruthless and would be filled with rumours.
But there seemed to be no way out of this, so you nodded with a smile, and followed the two Lords outside the Library after bidding the professor a good day.
They guided you throughout the fortress, and you didn’t fail to notice the annoyed glance they threw over their shoulder towards Ammos’s tall figure.
You wondered if Caspian had asked your bodyguards to remain by your side all day simply because he feared for your safety, or to have a spy…
There was small talk for a while, a rather boring exchange of questions and answers, until you reached a small room, where a table had been set for about ten people. It included three women, who looked at you with fake smiles and judging glances. You felt unbearably self-conscious under their stares.
But you were too old to be intimidated this way. Instead, you merely shot them a tight smile, and followed Baras to take a seat by his side around the table.
You noticed the stares, they were not as friendly as the day before, when Caspian was by your side. You were not surprised though…
There were a few other Lords that you recognized, but they didn’t seem friendly either.
You guessed they were all great at hiding how they felt, and make happy faces for their king.
“Oh, it is delightful to finally meet you, Lady Y/N! Or should I say… Queen Y/N,” one of the women told you after introducing herself as Velma. You didn’t fail to notice the sarcasm in her voice.
Your smile was tighter again. You weren’t sure if you ought to react or not. You wanted to snap back at her, throw a witty remark, but you didn’t want Caspian’s reputation to falter because of your behaviour. So, you merely remained silent instead, and looked down at your plate, filled with appetizing food.
“I hope your royal chambers fit your needs,” Velma went on, insisting on the word royal.
“It’s perfect,” you answered in a neutral tone, tightening your hold on your fork.
“How strange that the King has made an official announcement out of nowhere,” she went on, turning around as to not be talking to you, even if you were in the room. “I would have expected more restrain.”
“You mean, more wisdom,” one of the Lords said.
You recognized him, but couldn’t recall his name. He went on.
“A period of courting is needed, may the lady come from another world or not.”
He glanced over at you, but didn’t speak directly to you, and you hated it.
You planted your fork in your carrot with a little too much strength, but you didn’t care.
You would answer the next jab made at you, you knew you would… and you reckoned that you would be right to do so.
“The king must be eager,” Velma shrugged. “Even though… she doesn’t look like much…”
You clenched your jaw and glared at the woman.
“I am sitting right here, in case you haven’t noticed,” you spoke between gritted teeth.
“I know, my Lady. I am simply discussing a fact, that our king seems eager to marry you… for some reason.”
“Because we love each other? Is that not a good enough reason?”
But they all laughed at you. Even Barras, who had tried to remain neutral and seemed to merely study you. Except for Ammos, of course, who remained perfectly still behind you.
“You are quite naïve. Or optimistic. It is quite refreshing,” Luis chuckled.
“I don’t see how.”
“You seem to have much to learn about political alliances, then.”
You looked down at your plate at that. Of course… royal weddings… they ought to come with a political arrangement. That’s what Caspian almost did with Cirvan and his daughter…
“Emilia was a good choice. A shame he changed his mind.”
You felt a sharp pain cross your heart at that, but you didn’t let it show.
Instead, you let your anger find your next words.
“A chance you’re not in charge of the decision, then.”
“Indeed,” Luis went on. “I would have advised my king to be more cautious in his choice of wife.”
“It’s true I don’t bring lands or money to the table. Sorry about that. You’ll have to be contempt with my striking personality instead.”
He raised an eyebrow at that, surprised. You didn’t care. You were too annoyed and tired, and this headache of yours… it was getting worse.
Your nostrils were tickled by the scent of something burning, you wondered where it came from. But it wasn’t improving your painful head, that was for certain.
“My lady, I am certain your personality is delightful, of course. Why else would the king have chosen you? I can see no other argument in your favour.”
You looked down, unsure why the mean reply hurt you so much. Perhaps it was because you felt uneasy, when the ladies by your side seemed perfectly at ease… and it didn’t help that they were ridiculously beautiful, too.
“It will not, however, change the fact that we have lost a treaty so that the king could bed you.”
Your head snapped back up, feeling heat creeping over your neck and cheeks.
Had Velma truly said that?
You shouldn’t be petty, but you reckoned that she deserved it.
“Wow, that was classy, at least.”
Everyone around you frowned, but you didn’t really care. The manners you were trying to behave with were slowly leaving you, just like your patience.
“I’m sure you can do better than that,” you went on. “If you want to play the insult game, then at least make it a challenge. Or did you never find anything clever to say after you stopped being an idiotic teenager?”
Velma stared at you with wide eyes, her mouth slightly agape, and you reckoned that you had won the duel, for now.
“Now, I am grateful for the invitation to lunch, Lord Baras,” you went on, turning to the man right before you. “But if this was merely meant to spend an hour insulting me right into my face, next time, be free to let me eat on my own. I’d rather have no company at all than an awful one.”
You tried to sit as straight as you could, and with as much dignity as you could muster.
“This kind of words are not expected from a future Queen,” Baras commented, but he had a small smile tugging at his lips. “Is it how you act in your world?”
“In my world I would have thrown my plate into your face. I am mustering all my restraints to not break anyone’s nose.”
You were surprised when he laughed, but Baras did. It was hesitant at first, but when you raised an eyebrow, he let out a bright wave of laughter.
“Forgive us, my Lady. We have underestimated you, it would seem,” Baras said, and there was something a little strange in his gaze, like he kept on studying you but seemed to have detected a worthy opponent instead of an innocent sheep.
You weren’t sure you liked that look though, but for the rest of the meal, no one dared to attack you anymore, or at least, not so openly. You reckoned it was some kind of success…
It didn’t prevent the gnawing feeling in your chest to make you feel miserable as you walked out of the room. You waited until you were alone in a corridor to let your shoulders drop though, rubbing at your temples because of this bloody headache of yours. The burning smell lingered, you wondered where it came from. Perhaps from the torches?
You wondered how much time you would have before Dalia would arrive. You weren’t sure to be ready to see her, she would not try to make you feel better, that was for certain. You wondered what could be the cause of her animosity towards you, but then again, you had an idea. You just hoped you were wrong about that…
A rival was the last thing you needed.

Your Empires map is so beautiful and detailed, I actually started tearing up going over the close up detail thinking about how much I'm gonna miss this world. I'm seriously considering getting a print, it feels so incredibly like a map of Narnia or Middle Earth or some grand high fantasy, you really knocked it out of the park! The thing I think made me smile most is the little sea monster off the coast of Dawn being (I'm pretty sure) where Impulse built his raid farm. The attention and love put into this really shows.
I'm curious, did the Empires crew give you access to their world map for you to make this so accurate? or are you just that good at piecing it together? It's wild!
Thank you so so much!!! I'm really gonna miss this world too, it means so much to me, I really poured that love into the details and knowing that you can see and appreciate that is so wonderful <333 I appreciate the interest in maybe getting a print!! No pressure of course, but that's so cool to hear!! And good catch on the raid farm, that is indeed the sea monster!!
In terms of getting it accurate, there were a couple of things that helped. I actually started planning for this map back in October of 2022, even before the crossover! I started with the map that Pixlriffs showed in his very first episode and went through and marked down where some of the CCs had confirmed on Twitter that they were putting their bases, like Pix and Sausage. A few were easy to deduce, like Shelby in the only Mangrove swamp and Lizzie in the only dark oak forest, and both Chromia and Tumble Town were set in distinctive valleys that were easy to spot on the map. You can see Joey's empire from Sanctuary and Stratos is visible from Chromia, so I could find those, and then I guesstimated the rest and posted that to Twitter where, to my surprise, fWhip, Oli and Gem all replied to give me their locations! From there I had the help of my friends on discord to locate Glimmer Grove and Cogsmeade – I remember we found Cogsmeade by seeing how long it took False to fly from her base to Hermitopia and calculating her location from that.
Here's Pix's map, before everyone decided to settle in one half of it:
Tumblr media
And after establishing the coastline (but before I decided what the map was going to look like) I put the guesstimated Empires locations in. As you can see, this was before Cogsmeade had an official name! I put Ironvale in as a placeholder because it was the option I had voted for :P
Tumblr media
(Poor Tumble Town lol, so tiny)
So yeah, that's how I got it to be as accurate as possible!! This was a great question :DDD

id be so interested in learning abt ur hlvrai2 idea...
ough ok sorry i’m about to brain dump my unformulated unorganized ideas all over this post (tysm for the ask btw). i don’t expect anyone to read all this, but it’s nice to actually write all the ideas down. WARNING long ass post under cut 👇
so like as i rambled about in this post, essentially the science team is stuck in an endlessly looping simulation that was made as an early test of black mesa’s virtual reality/ai tech. it’s built a lot like a game because that format makes it easier to run tests over and over.
anyways, hlvrai happens, they beat benrey, they go to chuck e cheese. but the party is also a cover for gman to temporarily isolate the science team in a little mini pocket simulation as he tries to fix whatever-the-hell is wrong with the main test one. except he fails.
hlvrai2 starts with gordon waking up on the tram, playing this game to test this cool vr tech for black mesa. except gordon is not excited this time. in fact gordon is freaking out because he remembers everything from the previous loop and he is wondering WHY he’s back here. why isn’t the test over. also he only got to eat 1 slice of pizza at chuck e cheese before everything blacked out so that sucks too.
gordon’s not the only one who remembers the last loop. everyone else who aren’t just random npcs also remember. before it was just tommy, gman, sunkist, and benrey who retained memories of previous loops. tommy and gman because their job is to keep the simulation intact, sunkist because tommy made her like that, and benry because he’s an anomaly (human consciousness and alien program/virus thing melded into one). in benry’s case, the memories are more jumbled and muddled in his head. so things don’t make a lot of sense for them.
anyway my idea is that this new loop that they’re in is even more screwed up than the last one. like the seams are really breaking and shit’s getting through. enemies that never appeared in any iteration before are appearing now. sections of the map have either moved or are missing entirely. there are new places too that don’t exactly look like they belong (bubby opens a closet door to reveal a forest, “what the hell is this narnia shit”). it’s super obvious that their world isn’t “real” and coomer, bubby, and darnold have to come to terms with the fact that they’re ai. although maybe bubby not so much because honestly xe doesn’t really give a shit about having a crisis over it (“I’m already a test tube baby—what difference does it make”). but bubby, like the others, would like to escape these endless loops. so that becomes the team’s main goal: find a way out. oh, and find gman too because he’s been missing ever since the loop restarted and tommy doesn’t know where the hell he is and it’s kind of concerning.
darnold joins the science team because he also remembers the last loop and wow this whole situation is just really messed up i guess i HAVE to go on a epic quest now dang. she takes up the healer role with her potions (not a huge fan of the violence), plus he just tends to fret over others in general. benrey rejoins the science team, which of course leads to tension that has to be worked out. now that benry isn’t coded as the antagonist/final boss anymore, he doesn’t have malicious intentions, but they’re still a little shit. they feels bad about what they did but doesn’t really know how to express it other than riling up gordon. though things get better between gordon and benrey as the adventure progresses and they have to save each other’s asses multiple times. he even says sorry eventually.
sooo i don’t exactly know how they break out yet, but they will stop the loops and escape into the actual main simulation of reality, the one that irl black mesa made to preserve humanity. the science team’s simulation was one of the tests that helped black mesa build the main simulation except nobody thought to stop running that test program—hence why the team’s been looping all this time. but yeah i’m still thinking about how it all ends. and also what the heck i want to do with forzen. i think i want him to be similar to be an ai that a piece of alien virus/coding latched onto. i think the alien virus/code used to be bigger and more intact before irl black mesa began messing with the alien tech, then it got fractured off into pieces that eventually found things in the system to latch onto, which is why forzen’s like “we used to be best friends” to benry. because technically there’s a part of them that used to be part of a bigger thing. idk. i think i want forzen to play a bit of an antagonist role, but not as a really bad one or anything. he’s just misguided. and maybe confused. let’s be real he doesn’t really know what he’s doing.
gman is missing because he’s dealing with his “Employers.” aka the super advanced hivemind ai that helps keep everything running in the background. they think the test simulation isn’t worth having around anymore because it’s becoming more trouble than it’s worth and they think gman isn’t able to handle it, so they’re stepping in. they aren’t the reason the test simulation is breaking down—the deterioration just got their attention. gman’s trying to either convince them to NOT erase it all or just stall them long enough in hopes that the science team figure a way out before the hammer comes down.
i was thinking who the main antagonist WOULD be, but maybe there doesn’t actually need to be one. it’s mostly the science team vs the test simulation. i guess the Employers could be seen as the main antagonist, but they’re just doing what they think is best to keep everything running smoothly.
ok that’s it im going to stop i’ve drained my brain resources. if anyone’s actually read all the way through, wow. thanks for slogging through my ramblings. :’)

This has nothing to do with anything but I do occasionally think about how CS Lewis's world is so focused on the East we have a tonne of lore and maps between Narnia and the east end of the world and then to the West its just.... Forest and mountain I guess???? BUT then Tolkeins world everything faces West. From Erebor West to the end of the world is mapped and we know language groups and lore... and then the East is just.... Desert and forest I guess?? I wonder if they ever had discussions about their worlds being connected in their writing group. Personally I think the Blue Wizards wound up in the Ettinmoors and got eaten by those fucking giants from The Silver Chair.

Morning dears! Very important thing to note today.
I will be adding a Harry Potter Verse for Zoro.
I've put a lot of thought into this considering where I know many people stand after what has occurred in relation to the author of the series, J.K. Rowling.
First, I would like to preface that I in no way condone nor support the viewpoints, beliefs, and comments that J.K. Rowling has made in regard to the transgender community and any others that I am not aware of.
Secondly, that being said, I grew up with Harry Potter. It is a world that vastly impacted me and is part of the reason why I love magic and reading so much. To me, this world no longer belongs to Rowling because it has outgrown her. Yes, she may have put it to pen and paper, but it has transcended her. In the same way that Wonderland, Narnia, and other magical worlds have influenced so many, Harry Potter's universe has brought magic to so many lives.
It is due to this love for the world of Harry Potter itself that I will be creating this verse for Zoro. It is my childhood and I want to explore it with the wonderful and amazing mun's out there that feel the same way that I do.
However, I am very aware that it now brings discomfort and pain to others. Due to this:
All threads, posts, and content in relation to the Harry Potter universe will be tagged under its verse tag: map of the seas (harry potter).
If this decision of mine does cause me to lose some followers please know that I love you all and respect your decision to respect your own boundaries. We are here to write, explore, and for many heal through our muses. This should always be a safe place for people to interact, make friends, and grow as a writer.
I will repost this throughout the day to try and ensure that everyone sees it. All Harry Potter-related content will not be posted until tomorrow to give those who need time for either a fond farewell or to block the tag mentioned above.

Worldbuilding questions
Have you dived nose first into a new WIP? Me too. Have you planned your new characters? Me too. So now the next step before writing is worldbuidling! Some people love it, some people hate it, some people really struggle with it.
I will post a part two with political and cultural worldbuilding in a few days, as well as one about maps. If you have specific requests don't be afraid to ask!
So, here are some questions that should help you set up the world for your WIP.
Part 1: physical settings and time.
Because breaking it all down, makes the process less of an enormous task and more writer friendly
First thing first: decide where your book will be set. It seems given, but it can be more difficult than what it seems.
Is it a huge world with lots of nations? There is only one nation? Is it small or big?
There are big cities? Or small villages? Or a mixture of both?
The landscape: is it flat? Are there mountains/forests/a desert? If your world map is big, you might want to consider some biome variety. If it is smaller one could suffice.
Are there islands? If so, how many? Are they big? How are they connected to each other/ the mainland?
Some big natural events shape the landscape: is your world subjected to plates shifting/earthquakes/volcanic eruption/droughts?
How is the climate? If it is really hot and humid the landscape will probably be different than a place with lots of rain and wind. Small hack: plains can have a huge variety of climates.
Seasons. Does the landscape get different with seasons changing? If so, how? It seems given but you might have a story where everything is the same all year round (think The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion the Wardrobe and the Witch, where it's winter all year long.)
If your characters travel a lot it will be useful putting everything down on a map. It will help you keep track of where they are and describe te setting accordingly. (I will make another post on how to draw maps soon, and link it).
Maybe it is not a tradional world, and you will need none of those things. For example you might set it in space. In this case you will need to answer different questions.
Is your story set on planets or spaceships? Do your characters ever touch a planet or do they just travel inside a spaceship? If that is the case, remember to research how spaceships work. (Also are those future spaceships, present, or past? It will make a big difference or the technology used)
If your characters touch planets consider: how many they are? Are they livable (is there water/air)? Are there other living forms? Is so which ones? How far/near are to the main star of the system? Are similar or very different to our own?
Secondly you will need to decide a time period to base your novel upon. Even if it is in a fantasy world, you will probably need to take inspiration from real world.
Is it set in a world close to our present? Or do you take inspiration from the past? Is it set in the future?
If it is set in the past you will need to pick a century and do researches specific for that century. Here some things you might want to check:
Clothes (type of clothes, sure, but also of cloth and threads. How are they made and by who. The differences between classes)
Weapons (how are they made? how much do they cost? does everyone have them or are they reserved to the rich? Are they used in training or only in battles?)
Food (what food is more popular? Again there will be differences between classes. How is it cooked? By who?)
Royalty (how is it treated? is it liked or despised? What clothes/weapons/food have they different from lower classes)
Specific historical events that occur in your world. If it is real world be sure to make your researches. If it is a fantasy one, pick an event you can be inspired from and research that to be more accurate (e.g. you want to set your world in something similar to 1700/1800. In that case you might want to read about different revolutions and see if some of that can be applied to your world too)
If it is set in the future there are some implications too. You might want to establish:
Technology (how big is the impact on society? Pick specific items, such as phones or computers and understand how they evolved)
Transports (are they more efficient than the present? If so why? Are there new means of transportation? If so, what are they?)
Climate (has it changed? If so how has it influenced population? Which areas are now inhabited? Which are not?)
Food (crops can be influenced by climate change and/or new technologies. Some foods might not be available anymore because the ingredients stopped growing due to those conditions. Some instead might be new because technology or natural evolution has changed some food varieties. For example bananas used to have seed and now not anymore. Consider if something like that might have happened)
Of course you don't have to answer all of those questions and consider all of those issues. But they might be useful to better understand your world, even if you don't cite all those elements while writing.

Ranking Keira Knightley movies I've seen
Found this ranking I made of Keira Knightley movies in one of my old notebooks and had to share with the world this new year's eve (worth noting that some of them like Imitation Game and Anna Karenina weren't originally on the list, so I added them tonight)
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace - Keira Knightley is not in it enough. when she is, she's indistinguishable from Natalie Portman. 1/10
Princess of Thieves - baby Keira Knightley chops off all her hair and makes me bisexual. is a cutie with a reasonable amount of chemistry with the charming love interest. wins over grouchy dad by saving england and being good at archery. 8/10
King Arthur - Keira's acting is great but i don't think the writers knew what to do with her. i do love her costumes though. 5/10
Never Let Me Go - i barely remember anything about this movie. book was probably better. -1/10
Atonement - OMG!!! the PASSION. the YEARNING. this is the first tragic WWII romance i ever experienced and it DELIVERS. mostly though it's the green dress. the one she's wearing when she has sex with the faun from the narnia movies. that green dress belongs in Titanic or something illustrious. i don't think this movie's appreciated enough. i think it's time for a rewatch. 12/10
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms - little known (no one but my mom and i ever saw it) but holy SHIT is the world missing out. Keira puts on this high-pitched voice as the EVIL SUGAR PLUM FAIRY in a giant tuto. she is by far the best thing about the movie which unfortunately is lackluster in every way. 6/10 and all 6 are for her
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World - this movie should not be allowed to be so darn cute when it's about the literal apocalypse but it is and Keira is cute in it. she gets to go on a roadtrip with Steve Carrell in hopes of seeing her parents again before a giant meteor hits the earth and kills everyone. has a surprisingly touching ending. 8/10
Begin Again - i like anything where Keira sings. she's also a good role model for mark ruffalo's daughter in this. not my favorite John Carnye movie (that would be Sing Street which came out three years later) but definitely watchable. 7/10
Love Actually - why didn't they let Keira do anything in this movie? -2/10
Imitation Game - more tragic WWII stuff, though not as gutting as Atonement. Keira gets a turn playing the normal (albeit v. smart) person playing opposite Benedict Cumberbatch being weird. she does just as good a job as Martin Freeman while being way hotter. (also helps that the movie is better written than Sherlock.) her story isn't the tragic part and i'm not going to make jokes about Alan Turing who deserved much better than he got. 7/10
Anna Karenina - despite plalying the character whose name is the title, Keira was not in this enough. costumes were good but movie was approximately 1000 years long. still haven't forgiven my college boyfriend for making me watch it. -5/10
Pride & Prejudice - not my favorite Austen adaptation but you can't say Keira's not having the time of her life. she's a little giggly -- Elizabeth is more dry -- but she's definitely pretty and does a good job with the material given. Rosamund Pike may be the only person as good as her. 6/10
Bend It Like Beckham - the movie that launched a thousand lesbians. Keira gets put on the map as a tiny cute blond tomboyish lesbian soccer (ahem, *football*) player. she's a treat. 10/10
Pirates of the Caribbean - THE Keira Knightley movies. the dresses? check. the sword fighting? check. Pirate King with men falling at her feet? check, check, and check. best thing about the triology. got to kiss three dudes (sao feng doesn't count), gives a rousing third act speech, and gets to be the character who got the "keeps removing weapons from more and more illogical places on her person" trope. plus she sings! (a little.) disney did not deserve her and neither did any man in those movies. (orlando came closest though) 10 million/10
