Hi this is an ask inquiring about the fucked up details of the zones nothing is off the table I wanna know what u mean!!

i guess what i want to see is how the bad parts of the zones affect killjoy culture/desert culture in general. like fucked up things on a larger scale i guess. i see a lot of easily-resolvable bad things (ex. someone gets hurt but then someone else patches them up, minor character death) or what's basically just violence for the sake of violence (everyones evil and kills and hurts other people in cold blood with no good reason, what i made the original post about). neither of these are inherently bad (though the latter usually isnt my cup of tea) and technically do acknowledge bad things in the zones but its on such a small scale. i wanna see worldbuilding!! bc theres so little canon content for danger days it makes it the perfect story to build up your own little world and i feel like people definitely build up the characters but don't build up the actual world as much. or maybe they do and i'm just not seeing it?

like one idea that i've been kinda toying with lately (that i hope is a good example) is the idea of medics usually being loners/in groups of other medics instead of each group having a medic or two because without proper medical care, something that might have an easy fix irl can be deadly or at least way worse in the desert, and because of that people fear getting sick. because medics are constantly around people who have potentially contagious diseases, people fear being around medics and try to avoid them if necessary to avoid getting sick. this is part of why being non-op if youre trans is so common- most people won't risk an operation if it isn't necessary to stop them immediately dying. this avoidance of medics is also part of why so many people in the zones are misinformed or just aren't informed at all about many illnesses- how are they going to learn if they won't get near the experts?

here's a bunch of ideas for potentially fucked up things beyond just killing murder violence and questions to prompt worldbuilding, if anyone's interested. under the cut bc this is long:

like i was talking about above, sickness. how do people generally act toward those who are sick? how much of a difference does the type of illness make in how the sick person is treated? does the way they're treated vary between different kinds of people (killjoys, neutrals, etc)? how do different groups go about curing sickness? how readily available is medical help or medicine? how good are the average desert dweller's first aid skills, and does it vary between groups?

hunger/thirst. what do different groups usually eat? where do they get their food and water from? do they get a balanced diet, or is it just whatever they can get their hands on? do they eat breakfast/lunch/dinner like we do or not? if not, how often do they eat? do they tend to have big meals or small meals? when there's not enough food for everyone, who gets to eat first? how do different groups feel about stealing from others to get what they need? are there certain groups that try to provide food and water for those in need, or is it everyone for themselves?

prejudice/discrimination. i know a lot of people hc the zones as being very accepting, but surely no place is perfect. are certain groups discriminated against in the city too, or is it specific to the zones? are they treated better in certain parts of the zones, or by certain groups? do they have their own spaces? are there any specific parts of desert culture that contribute to prejudice against certain groups?

capitalism. since most people agree the city is a capitalist hellscape and the zones seem to work somewhat similarly (people still having to buy things, a lot of people have written stories about killjoys trying to get enough money to buy things they need, etc) how do you earn money in the zones? if people have jobs, are workers paid well? what happens if you dont have enough money to get something you need? is trade/barter acceptable, or is it money only?

shelter. it gets pretty hot during the day and pretty cold at night, how many people have adequate shelter? will others take you in if you don't have shelter? do people stay in their shelter of choosing for extended periods of time, or do they move around a lot? how do people decorate their shelters, or make them more comfortable? what types of furniture or supplies are found in the average shelter?

violence. how often do people face violence in the zones? what reasons to people have to be violent to one another? does violence usually come from other zone dwellers, or does it happen between zone dwellers and better living industries? are violent incidents usually fatal or not?

childhood. how are children usually treated in the zones? how protected are they from the above problems? what lengths will people go to to help a child in need? what age is considered adulthood? do children lose the help and protections they once had (assuming they had any) once they're considered adults? is anyone willing to help those who've just reached adulthood?

obviously there's more things than that, but i think that's more than enough to get you started. lmk if you actually use any of these to do some worldbuilding, id love to see it!!

Here’s finally my full (long) commentary on the Ash vs Leon finale (both good and not quite so amazing stuff):

-Starting from the beginning: not gonna lie, I guessed pretty fast that the Eternatus would give Ash and Leon a boost so they could gigantamax again, reminding me a lot of what Tapu Koko did in the Ash vs Kukui battle (was it necessary? Hmm, not really)

-the Pikachu vs Cinderace battle was over pretty fast, making me feel that it could have easily be taken out of this episode altogether and it would not have harmed the match much. But well, we got some more proof of our lvl 1500 Pikachu’s capabilities

-The Pikachu vs Charizard battle again... now /that/ was intense. I do have to agree with some that it was probably one of the most intense/best 1 on 1:s in this series we’ve seen so far. The animation, the music, everything... yep, even tho I’m not a huge battle person (I watch pokeani for other reasons) and even tho I sadly knew how the battle would end, I was still watching it with ‘:O’ face

-The cameos!! Finally we got to see /all/ the compations including the ones we hadn’t seen so far in this series, May, Max, Misty and Cilan. Nice to see May has made friends with Serena and Lisia and Cilan is hanging out with Brock! However, I /will/ forever stick to my opinion that they should have been at the stadium. Surely that could have been arranged in a way that not everyone has to speak (bc I do understand that it would have been extremely ambitious and expensive to get the old va:s back for one - or 4 - episodes). I mean, Tracey has appeared with Delia and Oak in Ash’s battle episodes even tho he has remained silent so a similar thing could have been done with the others too. 

-I’m also gonna nitpick a little about the fact that we didn’t see a glimpse of Ash’s old rivals in this episode bc imo that would have crowned everything

-Ya’ll be excited about May and Serena but this is the thing that /I/ cared about :’) the Family TM ♥ Love how everyone is watching so intently. 

-One of the best scenes in this episode was without a doubt the Pikachu ‘dream’ (idk how to call it) where he saw all of Ash’s old mons. And when I say /all/, I really mean it. Even those mons that Ash never officially captured, like Larvitar or Nebby, were there, and it made me so happy :’) 

-And then he is up again and the original OP plays, and things got even more intense (I am telling you, the Eng dub NEEDS to use ‘I wanna be the very best’ here)

-Finally, the battle is over... but it was not immediately revealed who won. Which I personally enjoyed (despite the earlier tease that made it seem like Pikachu was going to faint) because as I’ve said in my earlier posts, I sadly got spoiled by TPCi (damn them!! I would not have known anything without them!) about the end of the battle, but these little ‘twists’ still kept me on my toes till the end. I loved Ash and Pikachu’s little chat at the pokemon center, Pikachu’s last move really was electrifying (oh, since I have not mentioned this yet, I should take this moment to say that I was obviously really really happy that it was Pikachu who got Ash this W.... bc as the title of this episode says, they are /Partners/ with big P and I could not see it going any other way. The OP teased us.)

-after Leon loses we also get a little glimpse of Leon’s first loss, which was against Sonia. I personally really loved that detail because I’ve always been very curious about what exactly happened between those two during their journeys so I find little glimpses like that very interesting. 

-And then we are already seeing the celebrations at the stadium, but as awesome as it was to see Ash celebrating with his team, I will say this: I /do/ hope that we will still see an actual party in Pallet Town because this scene was over so fast, only Dawn and Koharu were there to see it and... it just did not make it seem final enough. This win was a HUGE accomplishment for Ash and I do not want to see it get brushed under the rug the way they did with the Alola championship. 

(speaking of Alola, I still prefer Ash vs Kukui over this :P Sorry, I’m extremely biased)

-Well, all in all I thought that this was an excellent battle and an excellent ending to the battle, /but/. I would be lying if I said that the way they handled the battles before this both in this tournament and in JN as a whole made me feel a bit.... underwhelmed? about this whole tournament. Leon beat Alain and Diantha without a lot of effort and Ash struggled a lot against Steven and Cynthia. I know already that there will be a lot of debates in the future in this fandom about whether Ash deserved it or not. And that tells something. (I personally am happy to accept this win but I don’t really blame those who don’t)

I realize I haven’t commented the previous battle episodes much but maybe I’ll do that in another post later on. But to finish this post: Congrats, again, to our WORLD champion ♥ I’m so proud of our boy from Pallet Town!

PS. I forgot to mention I obviously loved TR’s reaction to everything!! They were so proud of their twerp :’)

heya cup!! i just want to hop on your post because ive actually been thinking about this kinda thing for a while now and i rly loved reading ur post bc i think you expressed everything in a really nice, respectful way!

personally, i am not at all a big crit enjoying person lol, bc of my demons (makes me v stressed for whatever reason lmao), so i tend to have discourse, crit tags blocked bc they kill my personal vibes etc. i will admit i've unfollowed people before for not tagging their crit lmao, but most of them time i will click through to see whats up, and i think most of the time, i do enjoy reading some crit, esp when its not like, my whole dash lmao, and esp when it comes from a place of love!! (hell im a cfiances main i think my entire mutuals circle only grudgingly accepted the csapnap book lore as canon like two months ago like i get cc's making Choices in regard to lore i do!)

crit is so so good and i love reading it from people who gen love the characters!! its always interesting to hear, and if im not in the mood, i can always block it lol. i love hearing people pick stories they love apart and analyze them, because i know they're doign it with great love in their heart. i remember after the ctubbo caimsey lore all my ctubbo mutuals got in a huddle and talked about why they did or didnt like the lore, and it was really fun to read!! it was so clear they really do love all the characters and enjoy cctubbo's content, even if they didnt like the choices made, and even if i personally enjoyed the lore (<- sick little ccabinetduo main) i really thought they made a lot of good points that i really enjoyed hearing!

but i think a lot of the time i can get really frustrated with "crit" is when its tinged with a weird sort of distaste for the cc's writing the characters, and perhaps in a bit of a unfair/petty way, i get really frustrated when i see people who often extremely, unfairly critical of people like quackity or karl, and their storytelling and ability to create character arcs. i feel like karl esp has gotten so much of this (which is personally so odd to me bc i feel like he's just a pretty likeable guy even if you're not into his content, but i digress sfdjkla 😭). so much "tales" crit is really irritating to me bc it feels really clearly like barely disguised dislike for cckarl seeping into a discussion of ckarl.

esp when i see people writing crit of a character that they do not main or usually talk about! there was a post a while back that was, like character crit of cq (apologies if this is too much of a vague to post lmao), and it really frustrated me, not just because i dont like it when people are mean to my little boy, but because it was clear that the author of the meta did not understand the lore they were talking about. they were completely misrepresenting a character morality and behavior in a way they absolutely would not be doing if they had watched the arc from cq's pov. and i know they're capable of writing well written, interesting, respectful meta and even crit bc they do it for characters they love. but when it comes to characters from cc's they personally dont like, the crit is. bad. its bad. like if you dont like their lore, dont watch it, dont post about it!! like curate your experience please!! but it feels like you dont enjoy any lore they could even do and you dont want to put in the effort to do so, so please do not engage with their lore!!!

tldr, well written crit w love for the characters always in mind always good!! (also the great majority tbh!!), crit for characters op hates the cc's who play them bad!! (a v small but really upsetting portion that has rlly turned me off the whole genre of post!)

hey soap thanks for your additions to this discussion :)! i really liked what you wrote here and agree with most of it. Because to the point of people who dont like a character writing meta i generally dont mind and if really do mind its chances those people have been blocked by me (it really depends on the take for me personally so in taht regard i do understand your frustration a lot! this is /nm btw).

And yeah the pt of my post isnt that you cant dislike ppl's posts but that i just want to open up the discussion how we can all coexist healthily within this sphere of analysis. And i dont blame you for disliking certain genres of posts in your experience even though i do still like those genres myself (with some nuance ofc).

At least one positive thing to do in situations of what you said (at least what i do) is write meta since i do understand the character (or like to think i do ig insome instances). which maybe would help people learn and change their view. I used to have really bad c!q and c!wilbur opinions ngl and i read a lot of meta ppl posted about them who did understnd their characters more and now people i think generally i have good takes on cwilbur so thanks to the wilburian meta-ers ig sldfjsdl!

Bucky wasn’t “mean” to Sam it TFATWS. He was being racist. Just because the series didn’t spell it out for white viewers doesn’t mean that Bucky was being “mean.”

He ignored Sam for months until Sam did something he didn’t like and then inserted himself into Sam’s professional life and work. (Another subtle example of the ways he was being racist in TFATWS).

He took Sam to see a Black man that had been held as a prisoner and tortured for decades without even warning Sam of who they were going to.

He quite literally put Sam’s life at risk during their interaction with the police officer.

He continued to berate Sam and center himself and his whiteness in discussions about the shield without even listening to Sam’s perspective or his experience as a Black man.

Bucky was not “mean” in TFATWS. He was racist. Ffs.

i’m not trying to argue anything you say in this ask. that’s not my place first of all and second of all i agree w you and everyone else in my notes pointing out the multiple times bucky committed microagressions against sam and the many examples in fatws of bucky’s racism/white privilege/bias at play in his actions and interactions with sam (like these above). i agree. i’m not arguing against what you’re saying.

i specifically mentioned in an earlier post i felt sam was “mean” to bucky in was that were ooc in fatws and cacw, specifically referring to their snarky banter. (nothing else.) that’s why the previous ask was questioning why i said that and also pointing out that bucky was the one who was really “mean”(er) than sam i guess. i agreed with that and clarified i didn’t mean to imply bucky was never mean to sam or exempt from responsibility for his actions that are, like you point out, beyond just “mean.” op specifically brought up the incident with the shield.

as i said in a previous post these instances were not what i meant when i brought up sam being ooc “mean” to bucky, or bucky being “mean” to sam (which, i feel he is. a lot. their relationship is based on a frenemies type conflict, which was the only thing i meant to refer to with “mean”. imo it works for mackie and stan who are friends but not for sambucky bc we haven’t gotten to really see them interact on screen too much, mostly bc bucky was still tws when they met, then ran away, then was unconscious, steve was always there as a buffer between them and the main focus of the attention, then sam was in jail and bucky was in wakanda and we never saw if they did interact, then they were both snapped for years. IF the mcu had given them the attention they deserved years ago to develop their characters outside of their relationship to steve, i feel like their dynamic in fatws would make a lot more sense and like. obviously it would have been cool to get to see more of them explored previously apart from how they benefited steves narratives) to clarify for everyone, i was talking about examples of their banter feeling mean/unkind/cruel and not teasing on both of their ends because i don’t think disney developed their relationship (platonic or otherwise) enough in the years prior to fatws airing somewhere WE could see it (like on screen) for it to feel funny and not mean and where both characters would reasonably understand it’s banter and not just bc disney says they do for the sake of pushing their show (like, alternatively, they did with both sam and steves friendship and steve and bucky’s friendship throughout phase 3, mostly bc we actually got to see them interact in meaningful ways beyond fight scenes and banter). that’s all i meant. that the depictions of them i feel are shallow, no longer funny, and time spent that could have been better utilizing further developing their bond/characters in a meaningful way.

that is not to say fatws NEVER develops either character in a meaningful way. of course they do! fatws was a huge arc for sam. and a progression (even if one i didn’t really like all the time) for bucky as a trauma n hydra survivor. they both had great moments in the show i felt were really just well written and meaningful elements to their storylines. i just wish there was more of that in the show (and hell, phase 3) so it didn’t feel rushed and/or was pushed aside i favor of this banter. but yes to respond to what you were saying, i don’t see any of those examples as bucky being “mean” to sam bc that would trivialize their importance and impact. but there are other moments where he is mean, and i find those particularly odd in the fact of him being shown to not be an aggressive or disrespectful character before that, just like i feel the show does by having sam make snarky comments towards him when he’s not even aware of himself. i feel like those are ooc, not a reflect or dislike of sam as a character bc it’s just that. i feel like he wouldn’t do those things. but i’m not including sam’s extremely justified reactions to things like these examples (and how bucky handled walker, handled sam giving up the shield, the police, incidents of racism) in my critiques of sam as being written as “mean.” because obviously those moments are necessary and understandable and not related to the random snarky banter i feel is ooc.

so, yes. you’re all right. bucky was mean to sam in fatws and also there were instances where his behavior was beyond just “mean” and were racist and i apologize for trivializing those instances in how i worded my former posts or if it seemed like i was holding sam to a higher standard and exempting bucky. i don’t wish to deny or excuse those instances. you’re right and thank you for pointing it out

Yes, jc told everyone WWX was the enemy of the entire cultivation world and didn't reveal that Wen Ning and Wen Qing risked everything to save his miserable life and returned the bodies of his parents (and Zidian) when Nie Mingjue asked directly and Lan Xichen spoke up for them, because he cared so much and he wanted to rebrand WWX's image! Totally! This is years after the end of the war. YunmengJiang is reestablished. jc didn't help because he didn't want to not because he couldn't. He let the situation become what it was. There's a difference between people believing some shit about WWX and WWX's former martial brother/Clan leader visiting the burial mounds and cutting ties with him and CONFIRMING IT ALL FOR THEM. MXTX even had JGY sum it all up nicely in the end:

It had been about three weeks since Bucky had first met the group of four at the protest. Bucky made sure to check in with Steve and let him know what he was doing. Steve was always worrying about Bucky, which was totally understandable because of everything they had been through.

Bucky’s day was a relaxed one with little to no time to dawdle. Over these three weeks, he had learned more from an eighteen year old than he ever thought he would. It was easier to open up to her, for some reason. Bucky hadn’t fully figured that out yet either, but he wasn’t going to question it.

Bucky had been going to his court mandated therapy with Dr. Raynor, to say they were making progress would be a lie. Honestly, Bucky was making more progress with the new individuals in his life. They knew what he did as the Winter Soldier-- no they know what the Winter Soldier did, Cassie made sure the distinction between the two was crystal clear. Bucky was still a bit cautious around them, not wanting to hurt them or be a burden to them.

It amazed Bucky how open they were with each other. Back in the 40’s, you didn’t express your feelings. Especially if you were a man, for fear of being labeled something unsavory. Even stranger still to Bucky was the encouragement and support that everyone gave to those in hard times. It warmed Bucky’s heart to see Penny comforting Freddie after his recent break up.

“Freddie and Ted had been together a little over six months,” Cassie explained to Bucky one night after the group had dispersed from the dining table. Bucky and Cassie were standing over the sink washing the dinner plates and cutlery. “Freddie was so in love with him. I thought Ted felt the same, but I guess that’s just how it goes, right?”

Bucky shrugged, this was one of his first experiences with modern romance. Dating in the 40’s was very rigid, which was to be expected, but nowadays everything is very fluid. It truly fascinated Bucky.

“I honestly don’t know.” Bucky shrugged as he dried the pristine plates. Just as he began to get lost in thought, Evie pulled him into a subject that he hadn’t thought of in a real long time.

“What was it like with women in the forties, Buck?” Bucky blinked at her and considered his answer carefully. The group had been teaching him how to handle some subjects sensitively.

“To be honest? The last date that I went on was to the World Expo of Tomorrow in 1943, the night before I shipped out to England.” He turned, leaning his weight on the counter behind him and crossing his arms over his chest. “I went with Steve, this was before he was Captain America, so when he was a little ol’ gangly thing. I had hooked us up with two women, one for me and one for Stevie, their names were Dot and Connie, I think.”

“No, no, that’s not what I mean, Buck. What was it like with women?”

Bucky tilted his head in question.“What do you mean?”

“What was it like with them? Like, how were they treated as a whole?”

“Oh, uh I think they were treated well? My Ma always told Steve and I to treat women with respect, so we did.”

“Right, but what about everyone else? How did they treat women?” Bucky was confused by the question and he began to think that he was giving the wrong answers.

“Um, I guess I don’t know. I guess they were treated how they are today?” Both of the girls in front of him released disdained scoffs.

“Well, that’s unfortunate, right Cas?” Cassie nodded at Evie and dropped her head in disappointment.

“Why do you say that?” Bucky asked. He was genuinely curious about what the girls were referring to. “I mean, I get that the treatment of women hasn’t always been good but it’s not that bad right?” The girls shared a knowing look, and then Evie sighed. She hauled herself out of her chair and nodded to Bucky.

“Alright, let’s go take a walk, just you and me.”

“Where are we going?”

“Oh, just a couple blocks away to the Walgreens. Sound okay?” Bucky agreed, grabbing his jacket and waiting for Evie by the doorway. “We’ll be back soon, Cas.”

“Uh, are you sure that’s a good idea, Evelyn?” Bucky had only ever heard Cassie use Evie’s full name when she was getting in trouble.

“Yeah, we’ll be fine, Cas, I swear.” Evie glanced at Bucky, “Besides, I’ve got a Sargent escorting me, so we’ve got nothing to worry about.” She threw a smile to her older sister whose face was just a veil of worry and doubt.

Bucky and Evie exited the apartment building and neither of them had said anything since. Bucky was wondering what this whole exercise was all about, but he wasn’t going to say anything until Evie did. The pair walked up onto a crosswalk, causing them to stop and wait so Evie was able to turn the man beside her.

“So, before we go any further, I just want to set the scene for you.” She took a calming breath and it was now that Bucky realized that this was the first time that she was noticeably scared. His brows furrowed and he nodded as she continued. “It’s ten o’clock on a Wednesday night and you’re in Brooklyn, walking to your local Walgreens because you need tampons.” Bucky huffed out a small laugh as Evie playfully glared at the man.

“Yeah, yeah. The female menstrual cycle is hilarious as is the pink tax that is put on feminine hygiene products. Laugh it up, James.” She shook her head and pulled Bucky closer to the front of a building. “I’m trying to tell you something, ya asshole. So, you see that it’s dark outside because it’s late but you decide to risk it anyway because you have a flight to catch at four the next morning. You leave your apartment and you are greeted with this.” She gestured to the expanse in front of her.

“Alright, let’s go. And just a word of wisdom real quick before we really get going. Women are considered fragile but I’ve never seen anything as easily wounded as a man’s ego.”

“Wow, that’s quite a pearl.” Bucky caught up to Evie as she made her way down the street.

“So being a woman and even more so, being a woman at night, means that you have to constantly be on guard.” As they were walking, a man in a greasy white tank top passed them. The man’s head turned and he scanned Evie’s body.

“Goddamn, that’s a sweet little body there, baby girl.” Bucky’s head snapped around to the man, but Evie kept walking. Bucky looked over to Evie with concern riddling his features.

“Hey, sweetcheeks! Let me talk to you for a while!” The greasy man was now following Evie and Bucky. “I bet I can show you a better time than he can, baby girl. Come on, let me talk to you.” He reached his hand out, gripping Evie’s arm and pulling her to face him.

“Please don’t touch me.” “Get your fucking hands off her, you dick.” The man took a step backwards away from the pair.

“Well, fine you bitch! I didn’t want you anyway, fucking fat ass.”

“Hey, you don’t just get to fucking walk away, you jackass! Apologize to her.”

“Why should I apologize to her? I was giving her a compliment.” Bucky’s eyes widened to the size of saucers. Did this guy just fucking--

“Okay, buddy.” Bucky went to approach the man to settle their disagreement when Evie stopped him.

“James, leave it. Let’s go.” She kept walking and Bucky didn’t want to leave her alone, not after that whole debacle.

“What the fuck was that Evie?” He questioned quickly, she shook her head in response but never verbally responded to him. A few paces later, the pair was about to pass a group of men leaned up against the brick wall behind them. Brown paper bags crunched around bottles were grasped in their hands. Drunken laughter was ringing out through the near empty streets.

“Hey baby! Why don’t you come on over here so we can talk to ya!” One of the men began to step in front of Evie effectively stopping her movement. The eighteen year old took a few steps backwards, coincidentally into Bucky’s chest. His arms came up to meet hers, about to move in front of her in a protective stance.

“Woah, you got a bodyguard baby?” The man tilted his head and stared at Evie. “You know you don’t need him sweetheart.”

“Damn, baby girl. You’re fine as hell.” Another man walked to stand next to the first. “What do I gotta do to get you in my bed?”

“Please leave us alone.”

“No, baby girl I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen.” Bucky stepped in front of Evie protectively.

“I think she told you to leave us alone.” The two men in front of Bucky didn’t waver. Two raised brows and a fit of laughter later, they still maintained their ground.

“Why? You guys going somewhere to fuck? Already got a piece of that ass and don’t want to share it big man?”

“That’s just cold. You gotta share sometime. And it’s just easier to do it now rather than later.” Evie trembled behind Bucky and leaned up so only Bucky could hear her.

“Come on Bucky, let’s just go back to the apartment.” She tugged on his right arm, fingers digging into his soft flesh. Bucky was sure that he would have crescent shaped indentations where her nails laid in because of how much she was gripping him.

Bucky’s eyes flicked up and down the two men in front of him, assessing how much of a threat they were. They were clearly enough of a threat to frighten Evie to the point of wanting to go home. Bucky gave Evie a stiff nod, not taking his eyes off of the men.

“Hey, where do you think you’re going baby? We’re just getting started!” One of them yelled at the pair as he reached out to grab Evie’s forearm. A split second later, Bucky’s left hand balled into a fist and he launched it at the man’s face. A loud crack resounded and a groan left the man’s mouth as he hit the ground. A look of shock fell across the other’s faces as they saw Bucky standing over their fallen comrade. The group took several steps away from the pair, holding their hands up in surrender.

“Don’t you ever touch a woman without her permission, you fucking prick.” Bucky then turned quickly, grabbing Evie’s wrist tightly and hauling her away from the men. Several paces later, Bucky still held a tight grip on the girl's arm.

“Bucky, you’re kind of hurting me.” Evie’s voice broke through Bucky’s barriers. He let up on how fast he was walking and then dropped Evie’s arm.

Worried eyes scanned her body for any bruising, “I’m so sorry, doll. Are you okay?” Evie laughed as she was rubbing her sore wrists.

“Bucky, that’s normal for any woman. Ever.” Shaking her head, she began walking back towards the apartment. “We could’ve kept on going to Walgreens, but I wasn’t sure your fragile heart could take it.” Bucky drew in his brows and a deep frown etched itself into his features.

“What the hell do you mean that’s normal, Evelyn?” He thrust his arm behind them, gesturing to what they just went through. “Nothing about that was normal.” Still shaking her head, the eighteen year old shrugged her shoulders.

“It’s normal for women.” She glanced at Bucky as she continued on her way. “Also, I know that you were probably just defending my honor or protecting me or whatever, but I want you to really think back, Buck. Think about when you were picking up women in the forties, did you ever push when they didn’t want to have that drink with you? Did you continuously ask for them to dance with you?”

“No, I told you. My Ma raised me the right way.” They walked up to the apartment building and Bucky reached for the door handle. Evie began making her up the stairs, Bucky not far behind her. She stopped suddenly, a few flights before Cassie’s apartment.

“What about your friends?” Bucky was taken aback. His memories were still a bit fuzzy about those times, but he could remember clearly enough. Although he wasn’t quite sure what she meant by the questions she was asking.

“What are you getting at Evie?” He huffed while opening the door to Cassie’s apartment. Freddie and Penny were lounged on the couch with an almost empty bottle of wine. Cassie’s head shot up at the sound of the two walking in the doorway. Evie dumped her things off on the granite countertop and turned on her heel to stare at Bucky.

“Did you ever stop your friends when women said no?” The quiet laughter between Penny and Freddie stopped suddenly as Evie’s question hung in the air. All eyes were on Bucky as he gulped and thought back to the times at the bars. Out with Steve and the other Howling Commandos, did they ever do that? He tried to think of a time when they pushed for what they wanted to happen. Of a time when the woman they were pursuing reluctantly gave in because they wouldn’t leave her alone. Evie didn’t wait for an answer, she could see that he was processing everything.

“So why did you stop those guys back there?” Her brows raised and her head tilted in question. Bucky took a deep breath and was about to answer when Evie cut him off. “By punching that guy out there, you’re a hero and we should all thank you and congratulate you for doing the right thing.” She stepped closer to Bucky and the three in the living room understood where Evie was going.

“What do you think would have been said if I would’ve punched him? Sure, you would’ve said something snappy and nice about how I can take care of myself. The general public though? They would say that I overreacted.”

“Easy Evie, he’s still learning.” Cassie said quietly. Bucky was thankful for that, he still did have a lot to learn but it felt like Evie was attacking him. That’s the point, you fucking dumbass. If you had been berating her for putting herself in danger by punching that guy, you would think she was reckless.

“Her point, Bucky, is that the double standard for men and women goes beyond what we expect. Everyone goes crazy for the knight saving the damsel, but everyone hates the damsel for saving herself.” Freddie explained from the comfort of the couch. Bucky nodded, starting to understand the concept. “And her questions about your old buddies. That has to do with the fact that you’re part of the problem.”

“What problem is that?” Bucky was honestly scared to know the answer but he knew to fully learn, he had to get all the facts, both good and bad.

“Stunting the growth of feminism. Being one of the people perpetuating the fact that it’s okay for men to be violent, but not for women.”

“Violence in the form of defending oneself in any capacity.” In Bucky’s line of work, he sees tons of capable and strong women. Natasha, Okoye, Shuri, Sharon, he could think of so many. Then he tried to think of when any of them got the limelight like Steve or himself.

“So it’s like anytime that there would be press releases for the team, and the interviewers would come and ask us questions,” he paused to think how to word what he wanted to say, “they always ask the guys about like super important things like how we’re keeping the city safe and stuff. But when they talk to the girls, they ask about their workout schedule and if they can wear underwear under their suits?”

“Yes, it’s exactly like that Bucky. That’s just a different form of it.” Evie replied quickly. She came up to hug Bucky. “I didn’t mean to attack you or anything, but this is something that we all feel is really important for you to grasp now that you’re back out there.”

“And now that you can recognize when it’s happening, the next important step is to stop it before it happens.” Penny yelled from the living room as she downed the last of the bottle in her hand.

“I’m so sorry, Evie. I didn’t know.”

“I know, I’m sorry too. You’re still figuring stuff out, but I needed you to see what it was really like for women.”

“Okay.” Bucky nodded. “How can I help this situation?” The group exchanged proud looks.

“Well, educate everyone around you. Don’t let it happen when you’re around.” Cassie said as she walked into the kitchen to crack open another bottle of wine. “And just support women. Push our problems into the public’s eye.” Bucky smiled, he could handle that, he was good at that.

Considering he was on his way to becoming a member of the Avengers, he would be able to influence from up high. He could openly support groups that were run by women, for women. He was used to standing in the background for things he didn’t believe in, so standing for something that he did was going to be a cakewalk.

A concern floated into the forefront of Bucky’s mind. He looked down at Evie, who had just recently released him from her death grip of a hug. “You know how to defend yourself right?”

Evie’s brows raised in a challenging manner, “Do I look like I don’t know how to defend myself?” The man shook his head and smiled as the surrounding group laughed. Cassie poured a glass of wine and cracked open a bottle of beer for Bucky.

They all made their way to the comfy couches to snuggle in for a movie night, satisfied with their teachings for the night.

“What are we watching tonight?”

“Well, in the spirit of feminism, we are going to watch Legally Blonde.” Penny commented as she picked up the remote. “And it’s Freddie’s favorite so yeah.”

The lights clicked off as the opening credits ran for the movie. Bucky looked around his group of friends as they giggled at the screen. Evie had her head in Cassie’s lap and she was stretched across the sofa with her feet tucked under Bucky’s thigh. Freddie and Penny were curled up in the loveseat across from where Bucky was. Pieces of popcorn and glasses of red wine were being passed from person to person, with the exception of Evie who was still underage. The energy surrounding the five of them was something Bucky hadn’t experienced in a long time and he wasn’t going to give it up anytime soon either.

A large grin overtook his face, although today was one of the harder lessons for him to learn, he wouldn’t want anyone else to be teaching him.

sorry this is really petty but like. this drama is so funny bc ultimately ppl are being accused of liking w*ncest just for like. being mildly dean critical. babes you know you can just block people for disagreeing with you. it doesn’t have to be that deep. in fact it’s literally the only way to survive fandom with more than a quarter of your brain cells left. anyway I’m a dean stan bc I imprinted on him as a child but when I see posts about how he sucks I either agree, disagree and ignore it (and sometimes just unfollow bc I’m curating the most fun online experience for myself as I should), or just say “that makes a lot of sense but it makes me sad so I’m just writing it out of my personal secret good spn”. It’s not that hard.

Okay I don't plan on talking about this too much anymore but I'll take this as an opportunity to address some things

It is wild how lightly people are treating very awful accusations here. I understand being suspiscious before following someone, because I have accidentally followed people who put that content on my dash (untagged too! because i do have it blacklisted) and it felt so gross. But people are just taking anything they don't like as "sus behavior"

Here are things I've seen people honestly mention that makes you suspicious: obviously being mainly a Sam blog, being "dean critical", being too intense about liking seasons 1-3, shipping sastiel (????), posting mainly about the brothers and not about Cas, criticizing an actor, being reblogged by one of them (even though we also hate when that happens! but it's not something we can control because i don't know every single one of them in order to block) and of course being associated with someone else that's sus.

And here's where I completely agree with what you said: people could just block others for all those things without throwing accusations around! You can just say "most of Sam blogs, or all Sam blogs who don't post destiel, are annoying as hell and i'll block them all" and that's fine! Or, better yet, don't say anything, you don't need to publically announce when you block someone.

Also yeah, a lot of people don't add banners on every post or post nonstop about how gross the wincest shit is because we prefer to avoid it and not be constantly thinking about it. I have the tag blacklisted but I don't do a deep investigation of OP of every post that makes into my dash, and that's kind of a wild expectation.

Quick note on the "dean critical" thing, I've never seen a fandom so weird about people critizing a character. The whole reason people started using the tag was exactly so we could still hang out with people like you, who love him and maybe don't wish to see negative analysis on him, so you could have a tag to blacklist instead of unfollowing! And although it's the bare minimum, I respect the honest attitude of "I know this happened in the show, but personally it's not an aspect I want to read/write meta about" instead of straight up denying stuff.

It is a wild cycle, with so many people (including myself) rejoining the fandom recently it's like you could see us going from "this is fun! i'm gonna follow a bunch of spn blogs" to "this is mildly annoying" to "i hate all of you, blocking spree". Not to be a hypocrite, I was onboard with destiel for most of my time in the fandom, I think I fell out of love with the ship partially because of my rewatch (and it shouldn't be that weird that rewatching something as an adult your perception on it changes!) and partially because of the fandom being so very Like That about it. And the whole fandom experience once you leave that ship is just very different. The bitterfication of the sam girl or whatever.

I do still have destiel mutuals who I appreciate very much, I don't even blacklist the tag because y'all have some amazing artists and I'm always up for fanart, even of things I don't ship (of course with the exception of gross ships).

Anyways yeah it is so infortunate that all of this happened but we move on, idk if anyone took the time to read all of this because it turned more into me venting than anything else but I also appreciate the support i’ve been getting from some of y’all

A Defence of Kataang with regards to how they are portrayed in TLoK (it’s long but there’s headcanons at the end)

Note: This is not about shipping wars. This is a safe zone. This is not about Zutara vs Kataang. This is me defending Kataang and the characters themselves...from the writers. 

I initially wrote this as a response to a post that got me heated. My reblog just made it too long so here it is as its own post. 

Now this post ripped apart Kataang as a couple but more than that said some stuff about Aang himself that hurt my heart. I didn’t really want to pick on this post but its condemning of Kataang was based almost entirely in what we know of them as parents in TLoK and honestly it’s that lil nugget of canon that I take issue with. It has bothered me from the get go because it doesn’t make sense from a writing and story perspective, and it’s been pissing me off since I watched it.

TL;DR nice and early bc this post is gonna be a long one:

This particular condemnation of Kataang rests almost entirely on the SHITTY way they were portrayed as parents by the writers of LoK, and in all honesty, on this particular topic, canon should be ignored.

Overall Kataang parenting is of my biggest gripes with LoK because in terms of writing it’s totally incongruous - it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t align, and it makes zero sense for what we know of those characters, and I don’t know if I can ever forgive the showrunners for allowing it to be written it into canon.

I will also preface this by saying I like LoK - love it. I had a scroll through the comments and reblogs on this post, and a lot of the hate towards this portrayal of Kataang ended up being blamed on the “terrible writing of LoK” which is not where I stand at all. That being said I am so angry at the writers for this one.

The other portion of the concurring comments that were very hateful towards Kataang came from Zutara shippers and honestly for me, although I do ship Kataang, this not a just a Kataang issue. I’m of the belief that Zutara would’ve just as easily been written to have similar issues due to very similar dynamics - Zutara also would have been two powerful benders from very different cultures, and with Zuko/Aang (whoever you ship w her) having a massively important global leadership role that is embedded in who they are, and therefore impossible to ignore as a factor in their relationship.

Now let me be clear, my desire to reject canon on this front is by no means me wanting to believe the best of my faves, and not wanting to hear a word against Aang. It’s not even necessarily a defence of Kataang bc I ship it that hard (I mean I do but I can set that aside for the sake of argument if that’s what you need from me here). 

The first, and main issue people have with Aang/Kataang in Korra, is the first point of the original post:

So why in hell would [Katara] be okay with Aang ignoring TWO of their children’s complete existence once he found out they had an airbending son?

And I agree with the post on this front; Katara would not have allowed her children to each be treated differently by their father. I had the same initial thought when watching LoK, and it’s the reason I hate and want to ignore the canon of LoK so badly. 

As much as it hurts to think of, we have to accept that Aang wouldn’t have been able to stop his preferential treatment for Tenzin from bleeding through into his parenting just out of a desperate desire to save his culture (which is absolutely understandable - doesn’t make it okay, but it’s understandable; Aang suffered an incredible loss, a massive cultural trauma which he alone carries the burden of). So of course he wasn’t able to hide how excited he was, and forgot to be mindful of his attitude and behaviour towards Kya and Bumi. So this aspect of canon Kataang? Yeah, I’m with it. So far so good. EXCEPT the most unrealistic element of canon is now that Katara would let him. I simply do not believe for a second that Katara would’ve allowed Aang to be the kind of parent LoK painted him to be.

However, I do not think it would’ve been a point of contention between the two of them! Katara would pull him aside, Katara would gently (but firmly) point out what Aang mightn’t be able to see for himself - he’s focusing too hard on Tenzin.

And Aang would listen.

All throughout A;tLA the two of them often help the other sort through their stuff. Aang has a great track record of being receptive to Katara’s advice and help (calming him down when discovering Monk Gyatso’s body, The Desert when he Appa is stolen, Serpent’s Pass when he’s bottling his feelings about Appa being missing). He’s also just so receptive to others’ ideas - he just goes with it and trusts in his friends (think of his trust in Katara’s plan to rescue Haru, his trust in staying behind with Sokka in the library to get the eclipse info). Aang’s humility is one of the most incredible things about him and it’s at the core of who he is. He would absolutely be able to hear Katara telling him he’s focusing too hard on one child - he would be open, and he’d listen.

So to me now canon just does not make sense at all. it does not align with their established character traits. And yes, people change as they get older and grow into adulthood but honestly, the elements of their respective personalities that we’re talking about here are pretty core elements of who these two people are.

Katara has always been fiercely protective of those she loves, strongwilled, stubborn, and ready to (vocally or physically) fight for what she believes is right and that wouldn’t disappear as she gets older. She wouldn’t let Aang’s preferrential treatment slide.

Aang has always been, and chose to be despite his loss, an optimistic, kind, believe in the best of humanity kind of person. He’s open to all points of view, he’s a good listener, he always tries his absolute best to find solutions that are good for everyone. And again his humility, his willingness to love, is who he is.  He believes all humans (including fkn OZAI) and all life are sacred, he believes in the absolute right to life. The kid is a vegetarian for crying out loud.

Now the parts of the take in the post that hurt my heart to read about what OP thinks of Aang:

“Aang never made an attempt to establish anything resembling a real familial unit with Katara, basically just stayed around until she popped out an Airbender [...] she was treated like some trophy wife to give birth to airbenders and that’s it!”

I wasn’t going to address this in this post until I read the comments in the notes, because people seem to agree. They share the sentiment that Katara was reduced to “just a love interest” by the two ending up together.

However I do very much take issue w the notion that Aang “basically just stayed around until she popped out an Airbender” (and honestly that entire paragraph - we don’t actually know that Aang didn’t make an effort to establish a family unit). As much as the LoK writers fucked up in their portrayal of Kataang as parents, this is a much harsher judgement of Aang’s character as a husband and father than anything implied by Aang and Katara’s children. I just don’t buy that Aang would view Katara (or anyone he married, even if you don’t ship Kataang) as a trophy wife, whose only role is to have airbender children. He never has viewed her that way - he has always looked at her like she’s the sun, and the most important person to him after she pulled him out of the iceburg. He loves her the most of anyone on the planet. It does not align with his character, his values or beliefs that he’d think of her (or any partner) that way. He is so besotted with Katara for who she is it HURT me to read that part of your take. Aang simply would never. Look at how he looks at her! 

What’s more is the unwavering respect and deference he shows Katara as his waterbending master - he recognises and loves her as the whole, complete, three dimensional, TALENTED POWERFUL INCREDIBLE WOMAN that she is. She is NEVER “just” a love interest for Aang. (But ALSO, do we respect Suki any less for being Sokka’s obvious love interest??? No. suki is written to be so badass that Sokka is HER love interest and I think Katara has equally badass energy but I digress).

Moving on!

OP made an excellent point that there would’ve been culturally different values between the two but I don’t think it would’ve been family that was the clashing point. Yes the airbenders value spirituality and enlightenment. But they lived together in massive communities! They supported and raised one another. Their community and culture was strong, and they were bonded in their spirituality! They value love, as well as enlightenment, peace, and the lives of all.

Now, again the points they made about the cultural divides within the Kataang family unit are valid, but also again I dislike how they chose to portray this in LoK. It would definitely be a struggle they faced as a couple. However I think they really missed an opportunity here with where they took it. Because they do at one point in the comics have Katara bring up the fact that their family will be a blend of two cultures, and she brings it up because Aang is trying so hard to bring balance back to the world by means of seperation.

They’ve known from the get go of being a couple that they’re going to have to navigate being a culturally blended family unit.

So I find it so shitty that they wrote it so that Kya got to learn the waterbending culture, Tenzin got Air and bumi got…nothing? It’s dangerously close to the way Disney does the “the girls are carbon copies of mum, and the boys are carbon copies of dad” thing (think Lady and the Tramp). It’s lazy. Especially when we had that “separation is an illusion” episode, AND things like Zuko learning different nation’s styles and applying them to his firebending, and Sokka learning an element of strategy or fighting from every nation. 

So give us Kya using Airbending moves with her waterbending (maybe she invents the water scooter)! Give us Tenzin doing more grounded moves that Aunty Toph (or Lin, while they were together) taught him from earthbending.

There are much more creative ways to illustrate the bumps and troubles Kataang might have run into in trying to navigate incorporating equal parts of their cultures in their children and family unit. Even just smaller scale issues like food and meals - how do they figure out how to do mealstimes with Aang’s vegetarianism with Katara’s culturally significant Water Tribe meat dishes? And then even taking into account how picky little kids can be!

Give me a scene where they literally just ate moon pies for a week because toddler Kya would scream if you put anything else down in front of her.

Maybe Bumi demanded sea prunes over and over but Katara and Bumi are the only ones who like them, and Bumi bonds with his mother this way - they go on little one-on-one outings to water tribe restaurants in Republic City, searching for the most authentic sea prunes!

Kya maybe likes the water tribe fashions the most because it helps her connect with her namesake BUT Kya also has a playful sense of humour - not unlike Monk Gyatso - Aang sees how much she loved moon pies and teaches her to throw them with waterbending.

We know Tenzin was a calm, quiet, and possibly shy child. Maybe he loved to hole himself away learning crafts. Give me Tenzin learning to tattoo, Tenzin learning to carve (and carving his first glider - it crashes of course), but also Tenzin learning to carve water tribe adornments and necklaces. Katara tries at first but when she gets busy Sokka comes in and teaches Tenzin to break all the carving rules Katara has laid down (”it doesn’t need to be perfect my little pupil - let the creativity flow!”)

Tenzin may not be able to waterbend but that doesn’t mean he can’t learn other means of healing. As the littlest he spent a lot of time watching Katara work - she teaches him to tie splints, dress wounds, and yes deliver babies.

well first of all i hope this isn't a bait ask. this reply really doesn't deserve the time and effort i put into refuting it, but there was a point in time when i was emotionally confused by these..."arguments", so whoever u are, anon, i hope this is helpful. i also recommend some distance - literally, "go outside and touch grass", which is a lot more difficult than it sounds, but it needs to be done. anyway, here's my "analysis":

EDIT: i had a long-ass response here, but then i realized it was dumb because the source material is dumb. i cut out most of it, but here are the highlights.

anyway, the "making posts on tumblr is meaningless" is um...interesting, seeing as off the top of my head i can think of two very influential tumblr blogs that talk about really important issues, Gradient Lair and Red Light Politics. I don't know as much about Red Light Politics, but Gradient Lair is frequently cited by academics (not getting into academia nonsense now but... -_-). also, they sound more pissed that the original post did gain traction, but whatever. this paragraph doesn't really make sense, but nothing here does, because i wasn't given much to work with.

i think what they're thinking about is how there appear to be some "fandom critical" people who try to, holistically, "ruin everyone's good time" by "stirring up drama" about popular fandom artists/writers/whoever else idk. oftentimes these people will also make jokes about fandom whatever, seemingly picking on random people's interests.

however, if you look at the long history of fandom racism, fandom's normalization of p*dophilia, and even general fandom harassment, and then you look at fandom's visceral, unwarranted reaction to criticism regarding these things, you can quickly see that disillusionment towards fandom is entirely reasonable. as for the joking, well...this an oversimplification but not everyone needs to like what you like. it sounds like they just need to get over themself.

EDIT 2: actually here's a summary of what I had. it deserves better than to be a response to this nonsense, but first it detailed how this took 1. the op's post and 2. a comment that we don't even know if op agreed with and misinterpreted that, and threw quite a fit about this- and i hate to say this because this term is misused so often by redditors, but- strawman.

I then went on to discuss how, for example, PoC can uphold systems of white supremacy. while obviously no person of color is going to be the "face" of white supremacy, the discussion still needs to be had, especially within that group. similarly, while fandom constituents may not be the face of capitalism, there needs to be a discussion, within fandom, on how they support and are defined by capitalist (and other) systems.

it was really too good of a point to be making for this trash reply. I could go say more, but I'm still trying to stay on topic, unlike ciaran.

also, to act like the nebulous system of late-stage capitalism is the only cause of bad media is ludicrous. first of all, someone has to make these so-called "corporate decisions", and the people making artistic decisions are, again, overwhelmingly members of "fandom." this comment is really trying to keep marvel trash and lore olympus-esque nonsense in the same atomic, indivisible category lest someone catches a whiff of nuance.

haha unfortunately i’m not really a comics person so i don’t feel like i can really give the best analysis possible, but i have seen most of the mcu movies and bits and pieces of the netflix show so i’ll try my best. also im using dc characters too bc i want to

1. Dan: I think your instinct with Dan as Captain Marvel is spot-on (at least uhhh,, based on the movie lol sorry comics ppl). Her direct, forceful powers and fighting style are definitely reminiscent of dan’s no-nonsense leadership approach. similarly the themes of overcoming sexism and acceling in a male-dominated industry in the captain marvel movie is pretty much the same as dan’s story establishing herself as the first female exy captain (tho sports is way more valid than the military). plus there’s a lot of emphasis on love and friendship between women that dan is ALL about. also lashana lynch would be a god tier dan wilds fc. Dan could also def have that lawful good Okoye from Black Panther energy. Loyal, disciplined, no-nonsense leader. no powers except discipline. no hair. also danai gurira in 2012 with the dreads and the sword and the cape on TWD was definitely part of my middle school sexual awakening

2. Kevin: Aquaman. this is based pretty much exclusively on the fact that jason momoa is my #1 kevin fc and also that Pasifika kevin is phenomenal and mandatory, actually. otherwise i think he has a decent amount of stick-up-the-ass cyclops energy. or dick grayson nightwing energy but i don’t have any evidence for why. kinda looks like him tho

3. Andrew: andrew gets the most characters bc he’s my favorite. i think ur jessica jones instincts are absolutely correct, both in her storyline (i only watched the first season) and her powers. i’ve seen some powers au and the tendency seems to be giving andrew like,, psychic powers or the like, and i don’t really agree. andrew is a very direct character. he’s pragmatic, he confronts problems head on, and he doesn’t muck about in details. to me this really translates best into physical powers like super strength that help u big punch straight thru all ur problems. also i def think andrew would be not just a solo hero but a mercenary (or a detective) because he’s not altruistic enough to be a standard vigilante. he doesn’t care enough about other people to hang out on rooftops all night waiting for Crime to occur. there’s a price for that.  which brings us to the NEXT andrew hero: deadpool. maybe in personality more of a drugged andrew but the superpowered mercenary is really a perfect fit for andrew. also, healing powers have a decidedly tragic poetry to them on andrew. already he’s self-destructive, if he had a healing factor his concern for his own well-being would be so beyond rock bottom it’d be in the earth’s core. even worse when you remember that with a healing factor, as opposed to indestructibility, you still feel all the pain. which brings us to Wolverine and X-23, who have the same thematic points as deadpool but are much more of a personality match and they have knife hands, which i really think andrew would appreciate. ending that sadness train and onto another tho, andrew’s aesthetic and Vibes fit the Winter Soldier just SO well (just that movie tho, not really civil war or anything past that) and a reinterpretation of the captain america story using the twinyards would be incredibly interesting. and finally, one last hero that would work really well for andrew: rogue, only remove the angst around not being able to touch people, andrew would love that. one touch and their comatose? baller. don't fucking touch him.

4. Matt: Shazam. I didn’t see the shazam movie but my dad and brother did and they said it was very funny and all the trailors looked like it had a lot of fun himbo energy and i really think that fits. in terms of matching himbo disaster energy i think i’ve heard good things about comics hawkeye (not mcu). thor?

5. Aaron: Mr. Fantastic. now this might be a stretch but aaron is a character who uses a skin-deep veneer of anger to cover the fact that he’s actually quite pliant and bends to other people’s wills. and he’s a doctor or w/e. he could alse be like,, antman. he’s smart right? hank pym not paul rudd. katelyn can be wasp

6. Seth: Arm Fall Off Boy. no i will not elaborate.             ..... ugh fine, but i'm using my favorite piece of superhero media of all time: x-men evolution, the one where they're all teenagers in public high school. seth can be lance alvers/avalanche who’s a bit of a jerk and has a lot of issues with authority and has a rivalry with cyclops very reminiscent of seth with kevin, but still there’s the recurring theme that he’s lashing out because of low self-esteem and a bad situation and he’s a surprisingly sympathetic character who i’m very fond of. his power is earthquakes but i think the name makes that pretty self-explanatory

7. Allison: Iron Man. cocky, bitchy, and rich rich rich. sounds like allison to me. then to elevate it a level higher: emma frost, rich bitch extraordinaire. also if allison had telepathic powers she would be unstoppable. plus one more bitchy, morally-gray blonde (but chaotic this time): Harley Quinn

8. Nicky: Okay so I do wanna give a quick shout-out to Northstar, the first openly gay comicbook superhero, who’s a speedster which I’d actually say fits Nicky pretty well. However, if i had to choose a superhero to represent nicky in presence and powers it would have to be Jubilee from x-men (... from what i’ve heard lol. i’ve never actually consumed any of her Media hahaha anyway) she’s a joyful, energetic presence and her powers are setting off fireworks which i think is a good balance of nicky being a supportive cousin-parent AND a chaotic train wreck garbage trash man. also gonna throw in johnny storm for a cheap 'flaming' joke

9. Renee: Thunder/Blackbird from Black Lightning bc she’s a fufkin lesbian lol. (i don’t watch the show but i do follow nafessa williams’s tag). now the fr ones i’m gonna do together because to me they have the same Vibes so i chose them for the same reasons. Wonder Woman and Storm who to me have the same  reserved, impartial, regal energy. honestly ethereal and somewhat otherwordly, and quite literally goddesses. also op as hell.  black widow and her “red in my leger” looking for redemption story also fits thematically.

10. Neil: okay lazy answer first: the flash or quicksilver. get it? because they run fast? and neil run too? yea i like to think i've proven myself to be better than such a surface level interpretation but worth the mention ig. so for srs now, mystique and her shape changing powers would be an interesting interpretation of neil's identity issues, but i wanna push it a step further. nightcrawler would actually be possibly the MOST interesting hero to apply to neil 1. because powers still very movement go fast place to place 2. because of the thematic focus on neil's unusual looks and the lengths he goes to hide them, very much in line with the way nightcrawler will use a hologram-projector in order to look human, yet in both cases it's only a surface-level illusion, and 3. his parentage. here, mary would be mystique, which i also think works very well considering mary seemed to be the far more effective chameleon on the run than neil, and also fits with her place as a morally grey character, as mystique herself is often a villain or an antagonist, with her own agenda and shadowy motives. then nathan matches well with nightcrawler's father: azazel, a literal demon, and also where kurt gets his appearance. it's a shockingly coherent narrative between the three of them. then, to also give neil some powers that aren't contingent on his fucked up geneology and rather on his own merit and abilities, Black Canary and her sonic voice parallel the way that neil began to anchor his identity and take ownership over himself through his voice and his sick roasts

and 1 extra, wymack: batman, on account of his altruism, his dedication to second chances, and his many, many adopted children

pre-war prowl is such an interesting character. actually prowl in general is such an interesting character...I kinda wrote him off during my first read of mtmte (and even a little during my second readthru) as just this dude who’s an asshole (espec bc my prev tf experience involved watching tfa as a kid, and this prowl is very different from tfa prowl lol)...but prowl is SUCH a multi-faceted and interesting character, even in the relatively little we see of him in mtmte 

plus it was interesting to learn later that prowl was one of the characters that jro wanted for mtmte and didn't get, and MAN i wish he got prowl bc I would've loved to see what jro would've done w/prowl on the lost light, that would've been amazing. like, just imagine the arc he would have...I have no idea what that arc would BE, but I know it would be awesome. plus I’d be really interested to see how prowl would factor in, relationships-wise, amongst the crew of the lost light. so much potential!

I prefer pan because of how it applies to my own gender identity; I am not a man or a woman so sometimes my own relationship to attraction feels complicated, in that I can be attracted to any gender and have no idea what that means in relation to my own. Is my attracted to men gay or straight? What about women? Who knows! I like it because it means I don’t have to define MY gender while clarifying that I’m attracted to all genders. I think a lot of people feel that way. I get that it’s a preference thing in terms of labels but still, it’s one I chose in reference to my own identity, not because I think it makes me better than someone who identifies as bisexual. And I’m really tired of seeing people act as though a niche subculture of hyperonline kids on tiktok is enough to justify speaking badly about all pansexual people as a group when really it’s a label that makes it easier for me to be comfy in my own gender…like honestly it makes me feel badly and a bit hurt 😔

no I completely agree w you!! and like I said in the previous ask, I am not at all talking abt pansexual people as a group. the post starts out with "what bothers me in bi vs pan discourse" and so from there the referenced "they" is talking abt the people who are participating in said discourse. if you're not out there spewing shitty stuff abt bisexuals, you're not a part of that group ykwim? like. pansexuality is totally valid for whatever reason you have to identify that way and I'd stand beside even the hyperonline kids on tiktok if we were up against cishet people bc queer solidarity is more important than discourse.

Cause I get such anonymous asks almost on a weekly basis, and the anonymous people who send them to me are VERY skeptical of Ben’s private life, even though they know for a fact the children are definitely real and they always report that Ben gazes at Weirdo tenderly during their strolls.  None of them take pictures of the adorable family of course, because they respect Ben’s privacy too much for that, but they do see them out and about almost on a daily basis.  And they are hardcore skeptics of course.  They invariably tell me that on every single such ask I get.  

Of course I never understood what they’re skeptical about given what they have witnessed with their own two eyes... but I believe them.  And so should you!

There's no rule against it or anything, maybe the critics feel TV is more shows? Over the last 25 years, only two miniseries actors have ever between nominated (Pacino for Angels in America and Giamotti for John Adams; no actresses at all). That's out of over 100 nominees.

BC’s response to the interviewer reveals how the showmance has taken its toll on him, aging him well past his years. He lashes out like a trapped animal.  He’s painted himself into a corner and the walls are closing in.  This is so sad.

Except hes already talked about his private life enough that its weird to suddenly act defensive that someone mentions it. He interrupts the interviewer to say he doesn't talk about his private life as they refer to something he had already said about it.  Then he goes on to say they travel with him, which sure sounds like talking about something private to me. It would be one thing if he was responding to a particularly prying question but he seemed to get defensive at the mention of them. If he's going to get snippy now when people bring up the kids The Grinch promo is gonna be hella awkward.
