The other funny part is that Azazel already told his own version of this tale so now we have Mystique a known liar telling us this origin story vs Azazel who whilst evil seems more reliable when he is talking about things.

Deceptive Evil vs Outwardly Evil.

the situation is actually a hell lot worse and brow raising than that

because Mystique has had amnesia since the current Fall of X plotline started (Mystique here has been resurrected a whole lot and is pretty much just a clone with her personal compressed Cerebro mindfile downloaded into her)

and for it to be solved, they had to involve the stupid magic sword Nightcrawler got (hope-sword which Margali made after yanking all his hope out of him) and use it to fix her memory somehow (sword does whatever i guess) and what it left behind was... that whole secret secret origin story which came out of nowhere and in story has been previously stated to be completely erased from OG!Mystique's mind

this comic made me hate the bamfs honestly because the writer created his weird mind bamf (super ugly and annoying in this one shot) and uses it as his literal stand in to both be a plot device and do exposition dump like he's a solo greek chorus about to present us with the best stage play ever

and he gives the most annoying exposition dumps (usually you have a page to set the stage before a comic starts, give a "previously on X" summary, but here the writer used it to retcon Mystique's power set so that this version of events can happen and leave a personal note in it that pretty much said "i'm not sure when this should take place in with all things considered" about this entire conversation between mystique and nightcrawler)

it doesn't help that the last weird "bamfs" who could get inside people's minds nightcrawler saw was the astral plane scavengers he fought in the last series he's had... written by the same guy

this one shot genuinely fits nowhere even in context

Wait the current Mystique is a clone!?? Does she even have the soul of the original or is she just a clone with memories of the original? I wouldn't hate the rest of the Bamfs based on one stupid one, honestly it just sounds like this writer is a total joke constantly using plots and elements that contradict whatever he's writing. If you're trying to downplay Azazel being Kurt's father maybe don't use Kurt's literal blood siblings that Azazel made that are miniature identical versions of him

I'll explain using bullet notes regarding the real life technology we are working on and how humans will evolve along with it - according to Yuval Noah Harari we will evolve into something barely recognizable... something we can't even begin to comprehend with our current vision, neurology, eyes and cognition

Well, first of all, The Ring is all about vision isn't it? And how people are essentially "cursed" by what they see? The Ring virus in the original story mutates into a conscious pathogen, capable of spreading via psychic means.

So what the viewer of the tape sees, affects the world at large. Isn't that what's happening across the board with social media/brainwashing/fear porn/misinformation/extremism/NEW IDEOLOGY/NEW RELIGIONS etc

It is indeed

So then this cursed Ring virus re-appears in an unexpected, re-imagined form in the world at large (similar to how covid has re-emerged as something else entirely). Everyone who sees the video is subconsciously effected by this curse (the conscious pathogen) whether they know it or not. It's a subtle curse that burrows directly into the genes of people, the core of life itself (just like covid-19)

Alright time for real-life examples! Mindfiles are quickly gaining traction in the world (these are digital clones/copies of ourselves that live on after we've died or simultaneously alongside us and we don't know the potential consequences or dangers of this. For example it could be weaponized and the mindfile itself could become evil, greedy, violent or malevolent)

In The Ring, people are kept alive by making copies of the tape (the tape in relation to mindfiles could be construed as someone's life-history... their "backup" for the mindfile) it's a dangerous, unknown force that travels telepathically and by other technological/physiological means across populations (something we still don't fully understand.. just like the mysterious mechanisms of Covid-19)

In the future, narcissism will be widespread and inescapable in the human population as we become more superficial, merge with cyborgs, parts of our brains shrink and we lose our natural empathy. This is already being noted and studied across young children. Along with tasks that were once "instinctual and natural" but now seem to be alien and forgotten to some

Combined, the antagonist in The Ring film and the novel have supernatural senses, the ability to cheat death, psychic photography, mind control and teleportation. AI will be sure to give us ALL of these. Ultimately everyone will get to weild the psychic, telepathic powers of Samara as Artifical Intelligence gives us the ability to read minds, hallucinate new realities, recreate our own minds/lives, remodel ourselves and merge precariously with the screens our eyes are forever latched onto

Maybe even experience heaven and hell...

And new dimensions that our eyes aren't yet ready for

But at what cost??? Because mankind cannot be saved at this point

It will invariably evolve into a force like Samara... reaching through our screens, collecting our eyes

And of course, as the world watches these narcissistic technocrats, just as they watch Samara's tape - they subconsciously absorb that narcissism and it assimilates into themselves.. whether they like it or not...

Having said that, you need to think hard about what you can aim for with your limited abilities and limited time. The first step is to understand that you can't do "this, that and the other".

Despite it is all an illusion, we all need an illusion. Deciding which illusions you choose to live with is deciding what you "should" do. And knowing that "should" is an illusion, you have to do it without expecting results, without asking for anything in return, and with the attitude that it's OK if things don't turn out the way you want.

To be prepared to do that is to "live".

It is "self" that you happen to be born with.

It's just right to think, "I don't mind wasting my life.”

Scarlet Witch fan here, I got curious and checked out the one-shot myself... And it was so bad but I also ?? don't know ?? How it fits ?? In the setting ??

Like Mystique has apparently had this locked up/erased memory of Nightcrawler's "true origins" this whole time and somehow Kurt's weird bootleg soulsword helped fix her brain and reveal the "truth" ? But she shouldn't have had anything like that still locked away in her mind by the time the one-shot came out

I can't believe I'm using this as an example (look at what Marvel's making me do) but trial of magneto had Wanda create the whole mutant heaven and give a huge upgrade to the mindfiles that get placed inside the clones when they get resurrected. That upgrade had Cerebro's storage area expended to include all the mutants that ever existed as well as heal and fix all the minds that were already there.

It was right after the island's first year party and Mystique got resurrected a lot since then so she should have ?? Known about this "truth" for two years already ???

Don't tell me Kurt's bootleg sword is somehow stronger than Wanda's chaos magic that conjured up an entire afterlife and accurately recreated the minds of people who died centuries ago

did you know comic book Scarlet Witch fans are really cool? It seems like Marvel thought they could use the template of "mentally unstable mutant woman's power alter reality as you know it" but forgot Mystique is just a shapeshift and not a reality alterer or a Dark Phoenix avatar lol.

Marvel is very weird with how they dont seem to think about the implications of Azazel being more powerful than every X-men villain and Nightcrawler now having a sword that makes him more powerful than Wanda an Omega level mutant. What is this Marvel Ball Z????
