Linked Universe Novelization Masterpost
Welcome! This is an accessible novelization of the Linked Universe comic (@linkeduniverse) so that Jojo’s incredible creation can be shared with more people. All credit to this AU (alternate universe) and the storyline go to JoJo @jojo56830. This page is a work in progress and will be updated frequently.
If anyone has suggestions on how the image ID’s or the novelization could improve to make them more accessible, please send those in the ask box and I will happily make the changes (/genuine).

What is LU? Answer: LU is the shorthand nickname for Linked Universe. LU is a Links Meet AU in which nine Links from different Legend of Zelda games meet and travel together to defeat a great evil.

A Brutally Honest Description of How Each Brother SHOULD Text Each Other
Lucifer
That bitch who corrects your grammar and typos.
"Is it 'who' or 'whom,' MC? You can do better."
Always formal, full sentences, good punctuation, with little typos.
Only changes when he's solo texting Diavolo where suddenly they're sending each other text spam and multiple emojis like gossiping schoolgirls.
Mammon
I swear, his texts should be basically unreadable. Not because he can't write, but because he never reads over for mistakes before hitting send.
Typos, misspellings, missing words, the whole works. Sending messages through only emojis would arguably be more coherent.
Very big fan of voice chat because his brothers make fun of his illegible texts.
Only person who can reliably decipher whatever he says and never gets on his case about it is, surprisely, Lucifer. But he's had to read it for so many years that he barely even notices the flaws anymore. His mind fills in the gaps.
Levi
VERY BIG FAN OF ALL CAPS but to express excitement.
Could write you a novel but will send you an internet link to what he's talking about instead.
Sends random sentence fragments when too excited because his thumbs get away from him and he'll accidently hit "Send" twelve times in a row.
Texts exactly how he speaks. Included his many Levia-isms which are just keyboard smashes or random ass onomatopoeia like "bluforgal"
Satan
ANOTHER BIG FAN OF ALL CAPS because to express ANGER.
Can write you a novel. Will write you a novel. And will squeeze it all into one or two texts max.
Run-on sentences galore. Man has never met a comma he doesn't immediately take in like a starving Victorian orphan.
Likes taking aesthetic pictures of his books, coffee, rain, and cats. Mostly cats. You would think he has to immediately report each one he sees to MC like an endangered species.
Asmo
The living god of emojis. He has ones downloaded that you've never even imagined before. Incredibly hyper-specific ones like "man bent over stop sign puking on ground."
The kind of person who will ALWAYS answer the questions "How are you" or "Where are you" with an immediate selfie. Even in the tub.
Comes up with brilliant hot-takes while drunk and spams them at you at 3 in the morning.
While send selfies and aesthetic pics to you first for approval before posting them to Devilgram. He expects detailed critique on image quality, filter usage, pose, composition, lighting-
Beel
I feel like Beel just matches whatever energy you give him, sometimes for no reason.
If you text him: WHAT IS THE GROCERY LIST THIS WEEK? You'll get back:
EGGS.
CHEESE.
TOMATO.
The only big difference is Belphie because those two can send each other messages that are just "Uh-huh." "No." "No way!" for an hour and come away with a complete conversation.
Belphie
Abbreviation king. If he can skip out on writing out the whole word, he'll do it by any means necessary.
Sometimes he doesn't even bother finishing people's names and uses initials like he speaks in code.

Falls asleep texting often so messages can be perfectly fine one minute, then turn into a garble of letters the next.
Voice chats his dreams to MC like an audio-diary. Since he naps often, they may get 5 to 10 of these rambily messes sent to them a day.

@zutaraweek day 3: union
a little follow up to this comic i did last year. i really liked the idea of union in a political context and this was a very round about way of that. like, a little tongue in cheek with all the different kids from different nations just sort of talking and gossiping together. teens doing teen stuff despite their high profile roles in society, that type of thing.
initially this comic was a lot more ambitious but some complications happened in my life which made me have to chip away at a lot of it. such as having it in full color, with backgrounds. there's been a lot of thought put into the world of the chief kya au, though! particularly related to yue that is not featured at all asdfghjk.
the more i worked on it, the more i got worried zuko might be a little ooc. but i was a bit inspired by crystal catacombs and the softness he had there. whenever i try to write him in this au, he's just usually just happy to be around katara so i'm just going to let him do what he wants.

L: They seem nice. I’m happy you’re making friends.
Page 4: The girls gossip and Mai overhears.
Y: I didn’t know you knew Zuko.
Suki: Yeah. Do you know anything about the scar?
K: I don’t really know him. We just met. What do you guys know?
Mai: No one actually knows.
M: About the scar. They kept it quiet.
Page 5: There's a small flashback to Zuko at 14 after receiving his scar, the girls continue to talk, and there's a final panel of Ozai, alluding to a family secret.
M: He just went away for a while. And then he came back and there it was.
M: That’s all anyone knows. Except Zuko.
K: That’s awful. There has to be more.
M: Well…people have some suspicions.

Linked Universe Character Guide
I made this LU character guide for my friends and I thought it might be useful for any new LU fans out there! And also for anyone else who wants to info dump to friends about LU. So here you go :D
These characters are of course based on @linkeduniverse by Jojo! But, disclaimer, this does include some non-canon stuff (primarily the fandom nicknames and some War of Ages things) that’s common in fanfiction :). I made this for fun and for my friends so it includes my favorite tropes, canon and fanon.
Edit 4/4/23: Alt text and image descriptions added. Alt text only describes the official character art image (descriptions of all the images were too long for alt text and they were being cut off by my screen). Image text and other image descriptions are at the bottom of the post.

Never wielded the Master Sword, doesn’t have the Triforce of Courage

Started his journey because his sister was kidnapped
Was not originally gifted with the Hero’s Spirit of Courage, he assembled the Triforce during his journey

Has the Shiekah Slate, the inventory works, bombs and stasis are the only runes still functional. Technically in LU canon he has an enchanted bag, but in fanfics his storage is usually the slate
Scars are from when he died during the Calamity. Shrine of Resurrection fully healed his body internally
Wolf Link (older version of Twilight) helped him on parts of his journey

Ravio is his counterpart from Lorule, they live together

Nightmares | Luigi
Description: After the events of the new movie you move to mushroom kingdom with the brothers. One night you wake up to Luigi awake at the foot of the bed, shaking. (fem!reader and the “she” mentioned is you)

The moon hangs high above the Mushroom Kingdom and everyone sleeps peacefully, dim lights coming from the town below.
Weeks have passed since the incident with Bowser and while nearly everyone she checked up on had gone back to their normal lives (even in the human world), there was one person still dealing with the aftermath.
Luigi grasps his chest as he shoots up in bed, lungs heaving and palms sweaty as he gasps for air. His eyes dart around the room and he can only let out the breath he’s holding when they land on her.
She’s asleep next to him, her arms snuggly wrapped around a pillow which would typically be him if he hasn’t been home so late.
Luigi shutters, his heart fluttering as images of his nightmare flash through his head. He remembers how scared he was to get back to work, how awful it was to pretend that everything was fine and that nearly dying twice was a minor event. Mario was fine, so why wasn’t he?
“Lu?”
Her voice pulls him from his thoughts.
He hears the sheets ruffle and suddenly she’s next to him at the foot of the bed. “Hey… you’re shaking what’s the matter?” she asks, reaching out, she places her hand onto his shoulder.
Luigi finds it hard to look at her, he feels as though he’s being a coward, that he’s over reacting and she’ll hate him.
“N-Nothing!” He laughs “I just couldn’t sleep”.
“For the third time this week? Maybe you should go see the doctor, he might be able to help sweetheart, if this continues i’m worried you’ll-“
Luigi’s looks up at her. “It isn’t a health issue” he murmurs.
She tilts her head in confusion. “Then… what is the matter?”
He breathes faster now, trying everything he can to hide his panic as the memories from Bowser come up again.
“I just- I… Oh! Why can’t i get over it?!”
Luigi wipes the heavily flowing tears from his face, still trying to plaster a fake smile as if it could hide his uncontrollable sniffling.
“Lu…” her voice is soft and it only makes him want to cry more.
“It was pretty awful in there” he whimpers.
Suddenly she understands. He’s still having nightmares about Bowser. About nearly dying. He had told her a days ago that they were gone.
“You’re safe Luigi, you aren’t there anymore that is never going to happen again” she says softly.
He sniffs and looks at her. “Yeah… you’re right” he says.
She wraps her arm around his back and he leans onto her shoulder and the two of them sit there for a while as he quietly sobs into her t-shirt.

Fic Rec List
AO3 is holding a Feedback Fest for International Fanworks Day! So, in no particular order, here are 10 fics from my bookmarks that I recommend. :) Most of these fics are by stellar authors, but the list is for individual fics. I recommend checking out the authors as well.

Dawn of the Fourth by @lazuliquetzal - (LU, complete) A fic that's on plenty of rec lists, I'm sure! The mastery of plot, character, and language itself is top-tier. This has a mystery-ish plot filled with twists and turns that hold up very very well on rereads! The tension remains taut the whole time, but it isn't too stressful. There are some particular images from this one that have stuck with me since I read it.
Threats and Theatrics by htruona - (LU, complete) This one makes me laugh. A lot. Vio is too dramatic for his own good, and I adore the idea that they might just keep fake blood on them for stuff like this.
A Guide to Living (Again) by @cerame (LU, complete) - Also one that I'm sure is not unfamiliar to a lot of people! It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Shadow, and it was so so much fun to see these other opposite-Links coming around, too. This is just overall a very good time.
Awake, Sweet Prince by @vagueandominousvibes - (FS, complete) There's a lot by Kahl I adore, she's an excellent writer with a wonderful handle on world and words, and this one in particular is one of my favorites. I love slightly spooky fae and this is definitely high on my list.
Count to Nine by @tess-aka-fishy (LU, complete) - One of my top fluff and humor fics. Everyone is in-character in the best way possible, being chaotic but not necessarily on purpose. It's awesome.
It's Dangerous to Go Alone by @hey-adora (FS, complete) - Among the many standout works by Sam, this one is an excellent one to recommend thanks to the showcase of her particular brand of humor, the fun, adventure-y plot, canon-extension worldbuilding, and of course the focus on Vio and Shadow being awful as always.
Keep Your Face to the Sun by Ageofavalon (LU, complete) - This one is a wonderful little fic with, surprise surprise, a focus on Shadow. This one just feels cozy, and I've reread it a lot. I particularly enjoy the way that they adopt him into the LU Chain :)
Take a Number, Any Number by @cluelessmoose (LU, complete) - An outstanding Four whump fic that recently got a very satisfying second chapter. It uses a lot of my favorite whump tropes. The imagery and particular use of words makes this a delight to read.
Soft Glows by @youmixxx (FS, incomplete) - Breaking my hesitant rule of "only complete fics allowed" to rec this fantastic Green/Blue modern college AU story. The attention to detail in this fic is unbelievable—and I mean detail in-text in descriptions and narrative, as well as behind-the-scenes details like consistent schedules. It's beautiful. Don't let the word count intimidate you because it flies by in a haze of glory.
Draw a Circle Around Your Grief by @lattewritesthings (LU, complete) - Dramatic, horrific, bitter, hurt-no-comfort—BUT in a way that doesn't leave you hanging on a thread. It's tragic but the resolution is satisfying anyway. The images are striking and the emotions are potent.

🌹 Mega Gallade: A shining example of knighthood.
No matter what angle you look at them from they're posed picture perfect. (somehow their cape always blows in the perfect direction…)
They have the cape flick down to a science.
🌹 Roserade: Don't be deceived by Roserade's delicate appearance. They seem fastidious pruning their roses but those blooms hide thorny whips ready to attack.
They love shopping for perfumes with Warriors and setting him up with lively women who compliment their scent - a vanilla bourbon, sweet but smoke with a slight woodsy touch. Roserade may be a little romanticist.
🌹 Bisharp: They mirror Warriors’ ability to slip into professionalism. Bisharp is proud of its ability to cut through the chaos of combat and stay focused, absorbing all that's going on and continuously formulating plans and contingencies.
Their stiffness can often be mistaken for stoicism, but it armor against their anxieties.
🌹 Ribombee: A cutee with a scarf? But fr I wanted a small, delicate creature amongst his powerful team to serve as a metaphor for his need to guard himself, a young boy, beneath the captain's persona.
Ribombee constantly reminds warriors he's still a Link with their light-hearted and cheeky personality. There are no airs or masks acting freely as themselves.
🌹 Dragapult: They pick up the souls of lost infantry, refusing to release them from combat, trapped to fight another battle that isn't theirs.
Warriors looks at Dragapult with mild repulsion and guilt. He understands its Dragapult's nature, acting on its pure animalistic instincts. But he can't reconcile that perhaps he may share too much in common with them.
🌹 Braviary: The valiant pokemon. They will survey the battle overhead, diving down to where they're most needed, fighting fiercely to protect their teammates.
Braviary is headstrong and will act on its own sense of justice. It usually leads to them over extending and braving unnecessary injuries.

Notes: I originally wanted to include hoopa, then quickly realized having a dimensional hopping pokemon that can't actually help the chain dimension hop isn't going to work. Maybe they'd be Cia's partner pokemon instead hrmmmm

There is quite a bit of background behind this image, so allow me to ramble about TYK!Siji manor and QY!Tian Chuang a little :
The three yellow flowers in the top are the symbol of Siji Manor in TYK. It comes from the following description in Extra 5 : Wandering Jianghu :
[...] You may ask from god-know-where does this three golden flower pattern come from? [...] From then on, they receive salaries from the royals and no longer work in jianghu, but that flag with the golden flower is definitely a token of Four Season Manor.
I looked up the original, and no flower species was specified; I was then advised japanese chrysanthemum by Bichen, which I thought was aesthetically very interesting. I first used it for my personal design of the TYK!Siji manor uniform :
I have many, many headcanons regarding TYK!Siji. Here is another citation, from Extra 5 still, that I use for my conception of it :
People of the same age group as this lowly old man must all have heard of Four Seasons Manor. This Manor was built by an eccentric figure while the previous emperor was still ruling. Nobody even knew of his name, but everyone from that Manor was similarly mysterious. They were experts in disguising their faces, their qinggong was extraordinary, and while none knew who their manor lord’s shifu was, or even his real face, the manor lord was the either the best or second-best martial artist.”
“The Four Season Manor dealt in the business of secrets; it was said there was nothing in this world that they could not investigate, so there were hordes of people spending fortunes to buy information from them.
In the book, ZZS also compares the Scorpions to Siji Manor more than once, and even comments on how they're just "lesser versions" of Siji. From there, I like to think that ZZS learned everything from Qin Huaizhang, and that the manor's practices were quite similar to Tian Chuang's.
The curious part about ZZS' story is that he inherited the manor so young. There have been several discussions within servers I'm in about whether or not ZZS was QHZ's oldest disciple, but I like to think that he wasn't . In Qi Ye, one of ZZS' acolytes, Lu Yu, also excells in disguise, so has a good chance of being from Siji himself; however, his age isn't disclosed, hard to draw a conclusion from there, and I would guess that it is up to interpretation. My personal headcanon is that ZZS wasn't the oldest, but he was certainly the craftiest, the kid whom QHZ saw as resembling himself the most, and that's what decided him.
What ZZS had in him, however, was the seed of something much bigger than Siji Manor itself, and he ultimately brought the manor to its abandon- moved to the capital, gave the organisation a new name, and ultimately left. I love to visualise Siji!ZZS as this faceless, ominous person - a genius, an unstoppable force (the plum tree) that can't simply keep things as they are, that is bound to move, to bring things-the country itself- forward, even if it means a great deal of destruction - destruction of the manor, destruction of lives, commoners, nobles, manor brothers, destruction of himself.
One of my 7 nails illustration played on that imagery too. I will put it back here since it kind of resonates with the portrait above and with my headcanon.
I have an idea for another illustration that would have ZZS and the manor shixiongdis standing in the manor's courtyard, probably in a specific stance; but ZZS is, again, a faceless entity, while the others are pierced through (or even articulated like puppets) by plum tree branches. The manor behind would be also taken over by giant plum tree roots and branches.
Back on the plum tree imagery : the TC courtyard is decorated with plum trees, and the nails themselves smell like plum blossom. In Qi Ye, although this is never brought up again, TC agents have a plum tree branch tattooed on their forearm.
Plum trees grow fast, from the research i have made. They have beautiful, thick black trunks and delicate flowers that range from white to red. In the first lines of TYK, it is impossible to distinguish the white petals of plum blossoms from the snow on the ground.
In Qi Ye, what has to be ZZS' most atrocious crime happens during the winter, as snow is falling.
I think I'm just extremely fond of that symbol which, in my opinion, is well chosen. The plum tree is persistent even in winter. Its petals scatter everywhere, light as snowflakes, hard to catch. And its trunk is strong, dark, and growing fast, yet it looks so delicate; its petals sometimes taking a deep red tint, as if stained with blood. Whether for TC or ZZS himself, it's just great.
Anyway. I guess the rest is self-explanatory, haha.
I really like Zhou Zishu, by the way.
