You are deep in the paint about One Piece and me and my datemate watched OPLA recently so I will tell you this thing I said while we were talking about Shanks.
He said something to the effect of Shanks is CRAZY STRONG, perhaps one of the strongest, and has some special ability that allows him to tell anyone weaker than him to GTFO, so it's a fucking mystery why he lost his arm when by all rights he never needed to lose the arm. He's still the strongest without it, but why'd he lose it in the first place if he didn't have to???
So I replied, after like a minute of thought, "Because he might not need the arm, but Luffy needed him to lose his arm". Luffy needed the lesson he was going to learn for Shanks giving up that piece of himself to save Luffy's life. He needed to see the stakes and be given that lesson of actions, consequences, collateral damage, giving pieces of yourself for the sake of your crew/family/nakama.
Furthermore, with Sanji and Luffy being connected through "my mentor/surrogate father literally gave up a piece of himself to save my life", stands to logic that Sanji also needed that lesson in the narrative sense. These older guard pirates passed along something vital, giving up something that they don't need to live fulfilling lives but would be seen as incredibly important, to teach the next generation something and give them tools with which to do better.
I don't go here (I don't have the spoons for the entirety of One Piece tbh), but I liked the conclusion I came up with and wanted to share it in the hopes that you might like it too. I don't think I'm breaking any new ground here tbh but as an outsider, it was neat to think about.
I SURE AM, BUDDY X'''D Thanks for popping in! 👀 I got thoughts (and manga screencaps since you won't read it anyway, FREE REIN:
Hm. I mean point taken, but I mean...even the strongest people aren't infallible? Even IF Shanks has Conquerer's Haki (the power in question) which is something very special someone has to be born with and trained to use to its fullest, that doesn't mean it'll fix everything. Also like. He's also been shown to kinda....lose control of it when nervous or on edge.
Tumblr media
Like my dude did not have to do this. He mentions later he doesn't like being on different territory or something LOL (he's visiting a different powerful pirate leader here).
Anyway to rescue Luffy at that time, he had to act FAST and was probably SCARED FOR HIM so like. Maybe didn't have the time to make the Haki register? It came down to losing Luffy or bodily thrusting his own arm forward to block the bite from the sea king....and well. Shanks has 2 arms. Only one Luffy. The choice was easy. Even upon losing the arm he didn;t seem upset by it really.
Tumblr media
For the sake of the new era he says....the face of it being Luffy himself. And yea the wording really is "I gave it up" and him clearly having no regrets.
STILL I think you do have a point, this was VERY important for Luffy to learn. This same kid stabbed his own face to prove he was "manly enough" to be a pirate (so Shanks wouldn't leave without him....like his brother Ace....like his brother Sabo, to an extent, through "death" in his case) so the realization that being a pirate....would not be easy. There would be sacrifice. There would be pain. But also in a way, it was Shanks showing how important Luffy was to him. This, and passing down that straw hat much to big for Luffy....yeah.
It's clear then he's not ready. Not yet. It's with these parting gifts that Luffy is finally able to let Shanks go, and improve himself so he's strong enough to protect others, so they don;t have to do for him what Shanks did. Luffy learned to live, and while Shanks's sacrifice was devastating to Luffy, he took it to heart to keep going and grow stronger. And yea, that Nakama is just that important, more than limbs. More than life.
NOW SANJI ON THE OTHER HAND....similar but different. Luffy and Sanji were very lonely kids, but for different reasons. Luffy was clingy to anyone who showed him anything close to kindness, while Sanji....puffed up like a scared cat. Without going deep into details, he's from an extremely abusive family that beat into him he's not worth anything because he's weak. Especially from his father. So when Zeff gives him all the food, and sacrifices his own leg....well...
Tumblr media
"Why did you do that for me?! I never gave you a reason to be kind to me!!!" And Zeff responds with their shared dreams of the All Blue...but I also feel like it's just. Sanji is a kid. He's just a kid. Again a face of the new generation to come. Zeff had his chance to search for the All Blue and be a pirate, but Sanji's life is just beginning. I'm sure that fueled his decision too.
But unlike Luffy, this just made Sanji cling harder. In a way he gave up his dream to support Zeff, out of guilt, out of a sense of duty and kindness he'd....not really experienced and didn't know what to do with. And Zeff probably allowed it for awhile, because goodness Sanji is just a kid, and he needed someone to help him grow and learn.
But it took Luffy to come along, bringing "I will live for you" to challenge Sanji's "I will die for you" conclusion.
Tumblr media
Which uh. Didn't really fix Sanji's self sacrificial nature, but it HELPED, lmao. Eventually he was able to let go of suppori=ting the Baratie to finally chase his dream...as long as he doesn't die for a crewmate in the process hsdhfhdsk
So YEA IDK how much their mentors/father figures knew/thought about their sacrifices, but there sure were willing choices to give up their limbs for the upcoming generation/era, no matter what. I loved Zeff emphasizing that to Garp in OPLA, I think that's extremely important and a huge theme to One Piece in general. Cycles, power, and how many conflicts rise from powerful forces refusing to let go of their power, thus suffocating the new generations (the World Government smacking down so hard on the age of pirates).
Shanks and Zeff gave their support and protection to ensure these kids could live their fullest lives, and I think that's beautiful!

Tim Drake has a weird fucking function
The thing about Tim that I find unique is that his life became SO MUCH WORSE after joining the heroing thing. Everybody else had a mid-to-shit life before becoming a hero/living with Bruce and mostly everybody (except Jason who LITERALLY DIED) had their life improved by being a hero/being Bruce's kid (or at least it is typically portrayed as such.
Tim had the exact opposite trajectory. His life wasn't perfect before he became Robin, but like...multi-millionaire/billionaire (canon is unclear, but he's within Gotham's upper-strata) kid with both natural intelligence + charisma and a bright future ahead of him and parents who were emotionally neglectful but nothing really beyond that (which is also a form of trauma, but all of the info we have indicates that the Drakes were no Arthur Brown or David Cain) and he still had other people he could rely on outside of them. He went to boarding school, which could be something horrible OR something amazing depending on your own thoughts/experiences. I grew up having a commute where we'd drive past a really pretty and rich af boarding school that literally everybody in our area DREAMED of going to, so to me the idea of going to boarding school sounds incredible but mileage may vary. Tim seems like the type of kid who would thrive in that though. Based on what we know in canon atm, his pre-robin life was fucking amazing.
And then he starts being the sidekick and working towards becoming Robin. His parents immediately get kidnapped and poison themselves through drinking tainted water; his mom dies and his dad is in a coma. This is not the fault of Robin, but Tim himself muses about the idea that Robin and dead parents are linked: to become Robin completely, you must lose your parents. And with how fate/destiny/canon events can operate in comics universes, maybe he isn't that far off. Once his dad wakes up, their relationship becomes strained as the man grieves the loss of his wife and realizes that his son has been doing vigilantism as a hobby. It is unclear exactly how good of a parent Jack was before the incident, but the results of Tim's involvement with the Robin mantle has definitely made things worse between father and son. Jack will also die within quick succession of 2 of Tim's best friends, his girlfriend, and his other father. He will also effectively lose like 1/2 his loved ones in the fallout of all of that mess including: his older brother, his other friends (both civilian and superhero), and the stepmother with whom he shared what I would argue is his best parent-child relationship (Dana also may have died, but it's left unclear). He has stopped pursuing higher education (the moment he even applied for college he 'died', and it seems he hasn't made another attempt since) and if he wasn’t a major focus of the media before he sure is now. He tries to quit briefly (in fact he initially was planning on quitting once someone more suited came along) and cannot bring himself to do so. Even when he does manage to get away for a while, his superhero life impacts the pre-robin life he is trying to go back to. Leaving is an impossibility, this is all there is for him now. He also isn’t allowed to make mistakes anymore, not when lives hang in the balance. The one who enforces that impossible standard the most (besides Bruce depending on who's writing) is himself. He’s got TRAUMA now and people want to hurt him constantly. He is constantly questioning his own sanity and morality and place in the world. He almost dies like every month. Tim grows colder and less grounded, he is becoming both a better and a worse version of himself at the same time. He’s saving lives in the same few issues as he’s setting up a Saw movie plot for the man who killed his father. He is haunted by the ghosts of his past and the looming figure of his future. His life becomes SO MUCH FUCKING WORSE after he becomes Robin. Some of it is the fault of others, some is the fault of circumstance, and some of it is due to his own actions. But basically all of Tim's worst traumas and life-changing moments are either tied to or caused by Robin. Dick's parents would still be dead, Jason would still be living on the streets, Stephanie would still have Arthur Brown for a father and a lot of other things that deserve their own posts/IDK if they've been retconned, and Damian would still have been raised in the eco-cult where death is a constant. Those are life circumstances that occur without the involvement of Robin, the only one who even needs Bruce involved at all in their series of events is Damian. But Tim? All of what is considered his 'worst' moments occur after he assumes the role.
This idea is what I find the coolest and most fascinating about Tim as a character. Being a hero is usually portrayed as either an outright awesome thing or a righteous duty that one must fulfill or (maybe in a grimmer and/or more grounded story) a sacrifice to your interpersonal relationships/mental health that is made for the greater good. For Tim, being a superhero actively ruined his life (both because of the general circumstances surrounding being a kid vigilante and the choices he made as part of that role). It's never portrayed that way in canon because we need to come out of issues going 'wow being a superhero is so cool! I'm gonna buy the next issue!', but when you just look at Tim's life literally everything really bad that we know of occurred after he became Robin.

Hard Luck
It’s hard finding love when your sole reason to live is your daughter, but when her best friends dad is annoyingly attractive and might have something to do with your rent randomly getting paid, who can blame you for being a little curious?
||* mentions of cheating, fluff if you squint, perv Miguel, money issues
Chap ii
Miguel’s no longer there when you’re dropping off Raya or picking her up, on the odd occasion, though, you've caught a glimpse of his dark curls disappearing over the school gate. And it’s oddly insulting. Not that you expect him to be there, waiting for you.
You have a nasty habit of crushing painfully easily. A stranger giving you a quick smile while they hold a door open for you- smitten. Someone letting you have their seat on the bus- head over heels.
Whenever you find yourself at the playground, an unconscious habit makes you scan the area for his familiar broad shoulders. You even catch yourself inhaling deeply, hoping to catch a trace of that pricey cologne he always wears. The scent of his bland body wash lingers in your mind.
It feels absurd, the constant need to make sure that he’s there at the same time as you. Deep down, you know he is attractive, and you aren't oblivious to it either.
Now, standing a mere three feet from him, you feel a surge of awkwardness. It takes all of your willpower to resist the urge to speak your mind. You bite your tongue, fighting back the snarky comment that threatens to escape. Meanwhile, he remains there, seemingly nonchalant, his arms folded across his chest, pretending not to notice you as he steals glances from the corner of his eye.
The cold air bites at your skin, your thin cardigan doing very little to shelter you. Parents trying to keep up with their kids walk at a brisk pace and one of them barges into you. Too tired to even let out a grunt of annoyance, you turn away from them. His broad shoulders cast a dark shadow over you and you let out an internal groan.
“Hey,” you say smoothly, “Long time, no see.”
He turns to face you, eyes lazily scanning over your figure as if he's judging you- hard. Then, there's awkward stillness and you don't know what to do. You expected him to reply to you but he's just stared at you instead.
Miguel quirks an eyebrow at you, lips curling into a small smirk. “Yeah…” he says bluntly before turning round to face you completely.
He feels bad, guilty, and perverse for what happened yesterday. His actions after seeing you on that Instagram picture are far from decent. He’ll admit, he got carried away and that's something he's never done before.
So seeing you standing so close to him and desperately trying to strike up a conversation is like a punch in the gut.
“Considering our daughters are such good friends you’d think that you might want to say more than a ‘Yeah’,” Your words cut through Miguel’s guilt-ridden thoughts and bring him back to the pandemonium of the playground.
Pulling his hands out of his pockets, he nods his head before running his fingers through his hair- an oddly mesmerizing action. “Gabi… she asked me if Raya would want to go for ice cream tomorrow.” That’s his attempt to make up for being a touch-starved man and finding solidarity within his hand and your Instagram posts.
You look so pretty standing there, lashes donned in mascara and cheeks flush from the Autumn cold. He could tear through that thin cardigan with ease, his talons having no trouble slicing through the cotton shirt beneath it either. Maybe you’d let him or maybe you’d laugh in his face. He can't seem to think straight and when you smile so sweetly at him it’s like you want it, want him.
Tension- in his pants. Hands slipping down to his pockets to cover it up, he clears his throat. He looks everywhere, but your face but he can't help himself. Miguel allows himself to steal a glance at your face, your voice knocking him from his shameful imagination.
“Raya would love to get ice cream.” It's true, Raya would love to get ice cream but you can't even afford the bus right now. You press your lips together- uncertain of how to go about rejecting his offer.
“We could make a full day of it?”
Dread. Pure dread. What does he mean by that? Is making a full day of it going to the park and going on the swings- because that is cheap. But if it means going anywhere that isn't free then you are fucked. The idea of having your card rejected in front of him is embarrassing enough just imagine having to text your mum to ask for some money- a painfully common occurrence.
He notices the conflict in your expression, that pretty smile wavering for a second. That guilt from earlier grows inside his stomach and it's all he can do not start profusely apologising. He can sense something is off but he doesn't want to say anything, doesn't want to create more awkward tension between the two of you.
Silence- yet again. You’re just standing there trying to think of an excuse and he’s watching you panic. In its sadistic way, it's alluring watching your brow furrow and lips purse and deep down inside- he feels no shame for it. If it weren't for the muddy playground swarming with kids he would have had a different reaction than this. He would be stood so still, expression so void of emotion he might as well be a stone wall.
“I'd have the two of them. You can go do… whatever it is you’d like,” then that same smile from yesterday and its stomach churning. Those pearly whites showed between his lips.
But his words bring a sense of relief. You can pick up some extra hours and maybe have a nap if you're lucky.
The sound of two girl’s teachers leading their class out into the playground combined with their high-pitched giggles infiltrate your conversation.
Raya runs over and wraps her arms around you, her bag falling to the floor next to you. “That sounds nice, I have to get her home but,” you pause. You can't thank him enough for this, finally an opportunity for you to catch up on everything. There's no way he can understand how badly you need some time so you just smile and nod- your eyes meeting for a moment before you quickly walk off.
***
The soft glow of blue light dances across the living room, the sofa and lamp casting shadows on the floor. It's late but you can't sleep and apparently, neither can Raya. She's tucked up on the sofa with her small frame covered in the purple blanket that normally doesn't get touched.
“It’s late,” you mumble quietly, “and you have school in the morning.”
She lifts her head, eyes heavy and expression soft. Raya’s wearing the pyjamas your mother got her for her birthday, powder blue with camels dotted across the gentle cotton.
You sit next to her- arm wrapping around her to pull her close. Her head nestles into your chest, her arms limply wrapping around you.
“This was his,” you start quietly, “did you know that or did you just grab it by random?” it's a stupid question but you need something to break the silence.
“I doubt my dad owned a purple blanket.”
Your fingers find her hand that hides under the mauve wool. Her hands are clamped into small balls. Pushing down on her tiny fists, your fingers spread her own open.
“Your hands are angry,” you mumble into her hair.
Raya looks up at you, scowling and clearly unamused by your poor attempt at a joke. “Mum,” she groans.
“Sorry,” she blinks at you- still expecting a proper answer. “he gave it to me but he used it more than I did.”
The two of you sit in a peaceful quiet, the only sound being the low hum of the TV. You could sit like this forever- Raya allowing you to cradle her in your arms is something that hasn't happened in a while.
Suddenly, Raya’s voice breaks the hushed atmosphere with a question that you should have expected yet you aren't fully prepared to hear. “What happened?” And pain. Soul-crushing, gut-wrenching, heart aching pain.
How do you tell your nine-year-old that her father left because of you? It was hard enough to word it correctly to your parents so this is damn near impossible.
“It's complicated, Ray-Ray, we still loved each other but as friends.” it's a lie, a bad one, but you can't tell her the truth- not like this.
You feel so bad lying to her but you can't bring yourself to tell her the truth. Raya is a mature girl and she can understand emotions most adults can't even comprehend yet this is something she won't be able to deal with. There have been several occasions where she's not been able to manage a situation and they always end in tears.
“When you're older I c-”
“It's fine,” she mumbles, although there's an underlying tone of harshness to her voice you can sense her apprehensiveness. “I don't care.”
She does care and you can tell. Constantly asking questions about your absent father only to be shunned by your mother doesn't result in you suddenly losing interest.
You've messed up. You should have just told her the truth, told her that he wasn't who you thought he was and now he's gone- for good.
Her tired expression is now one full of disappointment and you can tell she was expecting more than a simple dismissal due to her age. Cupping her cheek gently, you tilt her head up to look at you and kiss her forehead softly.
“Gabi’s dad, Miguel, is taking you out for ice cream, does that make you feel better?” your voice is full of a hopefulness that you haven't expressed in a long time. The guilt you feel for messing up what could have been a meaningful conversation is eating you from the inside out fast. “I know it's not what you wanted to hear, baby but what happened between me and your dad… just know I love you and that's all that matters.”
“Sounds fun,” Raya says before snuggling into you and rolling her head to the side. It’s hard to tell if that’s her dry sense of humor speaking but it’s good enough for now. “Goodnight.”
And before long she’s asleep in your embrace, her arms and legs clinging to you and her chin digging into your chest. You miss this, her being your little girl who just wants a hug instead of storming off to her room. It's peaceful once again but this time there's no one to break the silence.
2090
Numbness engulfs you as you sit on the edge of the bed, your gaze fixed on the positive pregnancy test in your hand. Just moments ago, your mind was occupied with thoughts of starting a family with Graham. Now, betrayal overshadows everything, casting a dark cloud over your world.
With trembling fingers, you unlock Graham's phone one last time, hoping against hope that what you've discovered is a terrible dream. But there they are—the flirtatious texts, undeniable evidence of an ongoing emotional affair, and likely a physical one as well.
How could he do this to you? Three years together, discussions of marriage—through all the ups and downs, you trusted him completely. Until now.
A broken sob escapes your lips as waves of hurt, fury, and devastation crash over you. Simultaneously, a wave of nausea rises in your throat. You carry Graham's child, a child conceived in a lie. Would he even want it now that his unfaithfulness had been revealed?
Graham's cheerful voice calls from the living room, interrupting your thoughts. "Babe, you almost ready? The game is about to start." His casual tone twists the knife in your gut. How can he act so normal, so unchanged, when your entire world is crumbling?
It's time for harsh truths. Clutching the pregnancy test, you steel yourself and walk on unsteady legs to finally confront the cheating bastard face to face.
Emerging from the bedroom on trembling legs, you come to a shaky stop at the entrance to the living room. Graham lounges casually on the couch, beer in hand, eyes fixed on the pre-game commentary playing on the TV screen.
At the sound of your entrance, he turns and smiles warmly. "There you are. I was starting to—babe, what's wrong?" His smile melts into confusion as he takes in your tear-stained face.
"I know," your voice barely above a whisper, cracks with emotion. With a shaking hand, you hold up his unlocked phone for him to see. "I know about her. I saw the messages, Graham."
His face drains of colour in an instant. "Babes, I—it's not what you think—" he stammers, sitting up straighter.
"Don't even try to deny it!" you spit, fury and anguish boiling over. "I read them all—the flirting, the plans to meet up—how long has this been going on behind my back, huh? Fuck! Was I ever anything more than a placeholder until you found someone 'better'?"
He drops his gaze, unable to meet your eyes. "It was just a fling, it didn't mean anything. I swear, I was going to break it off, I—"
"Fuck you!" You cut him off sharply. "I'm not sticking around to be your fallback option or your dirty little secret." Your hand unconsciously comes to rest on your stomach. With a shaky breath, you say the words that can change everything:
"I'm pregnant, Graham. We're having a baby. But there is no 'we' anymore, not after this."
He stares at you in stunned silence, gaping like a fish out of water. You take a step back, suddenly unable to bear being in the same room as him any longer.
"Pack your things and get out. We're done."
Graham lifts his head, a calculating look entering his eyes. Slowly, he reaches for your hands.
“I'm sorry you're upset, honey, but you have to understand—this was as much your fault as mine," he says evenly.
You recoil in shock. "My fault? How is any of this my fault?"
"If you paid more attention to me, didn't nag so much, you know I wouldn't have strayed," Graham continues in a silky voice. "Jenna understands me in a way you never have. But I'm willing to try and make this work for the baby's sake."
Fuck he's repulsive. Your entire world is being ripped to shreds and he's trying to make this into a case of him not getting off.
He tugs you closer, ignoring your attempts to pull away. "You don't want our child to grow up with split-up parents, do you? So stop overreacting. I said I was sorry."
Graham raises his head, gazing at you with what appears to be an apology and remorse in his eyes. But you've been with him long enough to recognize the cunning look underneath.
"I know I hurt you, baby, and I'm so sorry," he says in a soft, cajoling tone. "But you have to understand, men have needs. I got lonely when you worked late nights. Jenna was there for me in a way you couldn't be."
You gape at him in disbelief.
Graham presses on relentlessly. "You can't punish me forever. I said I was sorry! And I'll end it with Jenna, of course." He flashes a signature crooked grin. "You know you're the only one for me, babe."
Recoiling as if burned, you yank your hands away. "Fuck you! Fuck you! Fuck you! Who on this fucking piece of white earth have you the audacity to act like the victim here?" you cry.
"Don't be like that," he snaps, losing the remorseful act. "I'm all you've got, and you're carrying my baby now, whether you like it or not. So you'd better start forgiving me, and fast."
A chill runs down your spine at Graham's domineering tone. For the first time, you catch a glimpse of the terrifying control and manipulation lurking beneath his charm. Clutching your stomach protectively, you back away from the man who is now a stranger to you.
"Just… don't," you whisper shakily. "Don't talk to me."
2099
It's raining. Normally the rain is calming, with a pleasant petrichor smell; but right now it's nothing but depressing. As you vacuum the ageing carpet of one of your elderly patients, you can't help but stew in the negative energy. You've had an unnecessarily long day, and finding that eviction notice hanging limply through your mail slot this morning wasn't exactly a pleasant surprise either. After three months of unpaid bills, you can't say you're surprised. But you can't help the sinking feeling as you contemplate what comes next.
As if on cue to taunt you, a lightning bolt strikes nearby. A chill runs through your body. You've gone without paying for months and now you have got to face the consequences of your actions. The thought makes your eyes sting. You keep vacuuming, but your thoughts are miles away, deep in worry. You turn off the vacuum, exhausted by the situation, but also by its noise.
“Going now,” Cara, the other nurse who works with you, says snapping you out of your miserable thoughts and back to your dull reality.
It's awkward between the two of you. Nothing bad, no interesting past, just awkward. You’ve had some of the same clients over the past few years but neither of you has made any effort to become friends. There's no problem with it.
“Bye,” you say with a polite smile. “See you tomorrow then.”
Her face remains plain, unchanging as she nods before walking out of the bedroom and presumably towards the front door.
You finish vacuuming the outdated bedroom before trudging into the living room.
“Ham today, Val?” you ask, tone flatter than you wished but cheerier than you felt. “or are we going to venture to the worlds of cheese and tomato?”
Val looks over at you, a smile drawn on her thin lips. “Ham please, pet,” polite as usual.
It's the same routine every day. Day in and day out. And you hate it, loathe it, despise it.
You crave an opportunity for an escape, some form of excitement. If it does come along- and you are certain it won't- you’re going to take. No matter what.
“I'll go make it for you now,” tone a little happier than it was seconds ago, you slump off to the kitchen.

Spider had every right to save quartich??? Naur I swear if I was loak I'd bitchslap that mf back to earth if I found out smh I mean his name is literally spider which means his ass gon be stepped on come avatar 3 🤭
No but hear me out on this:
Spider basically lived with the Sullys for fifteen whole years. Fifteen years!! He spent almost every day with them, he was there on almost every major event in their lives. His whole childhood was with them! When they got captured, he tried to protect Kiri the same way Lo‘ak did- like she’s his own blood. He was even the last to lower his bow because he was so ready to fight some 10ft tall recoms in order to protect Kiri, Lo‘ak and Tuk.
And yet nobody cared when he was captured himself. I know it would be a risk for the Sullys to get him back but did they even consider it for one second?? The enemie took him and all Jake said was oh well he’s tough, he’ll make it. That kid just protected Kiri from getting shot! Would he have said that about any of his other kids too if they got captured by Quaritch ? He certainly didn’t, later in the movie.
Spider spent so long in 'captivity', living with Quaritch and the RDA, he got tortured for information yet he never told them anything. He even risked the live of some random villagers instead of just telling Quaritch what he knows about Jake and his location.
Spider was gone for months at this point and again, nobody seemed to care. Nobody was even talking about him for more than one minute, wondering if he was even still alive. And I bet you he was thinking about the Sullys every second of the day…
And even after everything that happened, Spider didn’t hesitate for one moment to get back on the ship to help Jake find his daughters. He was ready to die for Kiri when Neytiri had her knife on his chest, all he said was don’t hurt her and never don’t hurt me. He didn’t even care about himself.
Spider loves the Sullys with his whole heart, yet they treated him like some insect. He grew up with them and Jake called him a stray cat, he really didn’t deserve this. That boy is just looking for some love, for a family, because that’s what’s missing in his life. Children instinctively search for parental figures if they don’t have them in their live and that’s what he did with the Sullys. They were his family even if they didn’t consider him a part of them.
All in all, Spider simply has huge daddy issues. He’s looking for something that represents a family, a father, because he never had one of his own. He sees the Sully family right in front of his eyes and probably knows he can never be one of them like he really wants to be. And then someone shows up that actually shares his dna, someone that could be considered a father. Quaritch isn’t the best man and Spider knows that, he knows that he’s the enemy, but he sees something good in him because he sees someone that’s trying to be good for him. Quaritch always made sure Spider was okay, he made sure nobody hurt him again and that he was taken care of- something we never saw Jake do. Even when Quaritch got so close to fulfilling his only goal and held one of Jakes kids hostage, he willingly let her go because he didn’t want Neytiri to hurt Spider.
Yes, Quaritch isn’t the best dad either and he’s still the bad guy here. But at least he’s trying, at least he shows some effort.
Spider had every right to save Quaritch because he showed him a lot more parental love and protection than Jake ever did.

Which of the rogues are amenable to having kids and which ones aren't? For the ones who want or would be cool with kids, what kind of parents would they be?
Rogue Party Parenting
OKAY, SORRY, this is late. I got Busy again. Some of these are longer than others given the subject. Tried to give all of them a reaction to kids, though, given some people already have children that are a package deal. And life in Gotham is weird, sometimes.
Tw: Mentions of past child abuse, miscarriage, suggestive lines here and there
Riddler
Hahaha so much past trauma coming up. He tells himself children are far too much of a hassle, disgusting, pointless- For him to have a child, not only would it be after a lot of conversation, his partner would have to really want that, and he'd have to decide he's 100% committed to said partner. Otherwise, it's an automatic no.
In his mind, he doesn't like kids. He wouldn't ever be mean to one, certainly not. And he'd never treat them like his father did to him- Never. And- Well. Bath time is kind of nice once they're all warm and dry in the towel and he can kiss their forehead. He SUPPOSES the quizzical way they look at him and the world is endearing-
oh, dammit, maybe he does actually like kids. Or, at least, he doesn't dislike them the way he thinks he did. He sees that vulnerability children have and he can't feel anything negative towards them. There are some issues he has to work past such as noise (due to emotional childhood trauma), but he figures it out.
His children will be so crazy smart. It doesn't matter if they are biological or not, the level of reading comprehension they'll have just being around him is above average for their age. He tries his best to foster knowledge rather than being a condescending prick like he is to everyone else.
If they're even a little self-conscious, he's going to fight that. Pick them up. Teach them to have confidence and a little bit of swagger. You're the top, kid, don't let anyone tell you different.
When he's in his nice suit/clothes, he starts carrying around wet wipes so the kids can clean their hands before getting him dirty. His workshop clothes are fine, though. In fact, he'll encourage them to do projects and get dirty with him as long as it's not one of his death traps. He'll show them how to take apart and put together radios and the like.
When they hug him and tell him they love him, he has to hold in the emotional wave that comes over him.
Penguin
I did get an ask about pregnancy hcs for him here which answers that first question lol. If he got to have one, it would not be a stretch for him to be game for a little row of metaphorical ducklings, he REALLY loves being a dad. He gets weepy at any births of his kid(s).
The baby/toddler stage is probably his favorite because he loves hogging them. He's loves cuddling them. It's kind of ridiculous how much he loves it. A lot of it is because he himself didn't get a lot of that as a child so he unintentionally projects those feelings. It's ultimately fine, his kid(s) are going to feel loved.
Spoils them. Hopefully his partner is more even keeled or else they will be spoiled rotten. Toys, education, clothing, only the best for them. And Oswald has plenty of money in legitimate businesses he can sign off monetary deposits to his partner so they'll be safe in case of any... unplanned incarcerations.
He will try to have a healthy balance of not letting his kids too deep into his world- but as they get older, he'll try to include them more and more so one day, his empire can be inherited. Try to have them less on the criminal end, but know how to handle that side of things.
If any of his children look different and/or are neurodivergent, he's so protective. Don't get me wrong, he's protective of all his kids- But he will be making sure the bullying and harassment he went through as a child will NOT happen to his kids.
So many dumb family vacations. Those cheesy pictures they ask you if you want to take in the front of theme parks? Every time. He can afford it, and he knows them being young won't last forever. It'll take a lot to convince him to be in the photos at times but if one of them bats their eyelashes at him, he will fold like a sucker.
100% will pull his pants up and let the kids into bed whenever they have a nightmare. Come on, look, you guys can't just put them back to bed, what if they have another nightmare?
Mad Hatter
He'd love to have children with his partner! Should he have children? That's definitely a question that should be asked if for no other reason than he works with a lot of drugs and isn't always the most coherent. You see, my general Jervis Tetch works with mind control devices and psychedelics. He likes chasing that rabbit hole down, down, down-
What was he saying? Yes, he'd love a little dormouse to add to their tea party! There's a glint of a joke in his eyes, that hint of recognition that his partner would recognize that he's much more aware than he lets on. They'll figure out how to keep their child safe at every instance.
There's so much to do! He has to paint the nursery and start sewing baby clothing- Jervis will sew so many theatrical fancy little outfits for his kid the photos will be downright embarrassing for potential future partners.
Always wants to read them bedtime stories. While both Alice in Wonderland books are a staple, he likes reading them the classics as are appropriate for young ones. Treasure Island, the Secret Garden, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. If his partner adds it to the list, he'll read it to them at some point, so there's definitely potential for some more modern books in there.
Very affectionate! Insists on them holding his hand to cross the street even once they're past the age for that sort of thing. His hugs goodbye last a second too long because
There will come a time when his now teenager child thinks he's cringe and doesn't want to be associated with him- and it'll hurt. He'll recede into his criminal businesses for a little while being UNCOOL and UNLOVED as his partner reminds him they love him very much.
Overall, he's very attentive. He doesn't talk about why that is but his partner might have an idea if he's talked about his childhood.
Scarecrow
No. He will play around with the idea of having children and it might make for some sexy dirty talk but biological children are not for him. He's too damn old and frankly he has way too many issues to want a child. If his partner has children, he will have some mixed feelings about him being a potential guardian. Tainted, burned out gardens aren't made for growing things.
He has to stop himself getting snippy at times to the child. Tell them to stop messing about his funeral home. Part of it is him worrying they'll find out about his other persona or set something off. Another doesn't want them scaring off clients or stumbling into the fridge room where he keeps the bodies as they wait for preparations. Scoops them up by the collar or uses his cane to snag their shirt.
If they show any kind of interests in the business or his hyperfixation of fears/psychology, though, and he may just take them under his wing. Gives them textbooks to study and look over when his partner might not be able to watch them. Defines any terms they don't understand with a calm ease that doesn't make them feel any kind of way.
If he catches wind of someone bullying them, he's going to teach them a valuable and important lesson on finding out the fears of your enemies and taking advantage of them. If it's severe, he might step in as scarecrow and teach them the meaning of the word horror.
Lightly smacks the back of their head if they curse but any bruise on their body caused by anyone (especially an adult) will be met in kind.
Victor Zsasz
Please do not have kids with this man. He's way too neutral on having kids and he should not be responsible for the development of a child.
He does not care if his partner wants have kids either way. If his partner wants them, it does give him an excuse to get really kinky with it, though. Breeding kink and domination to the nth degree.
for his child's fifth birthday, he gifts them a knife. Shortly after, he starts showing them how to use it for carving... wood. Yeah. These techniques are for wood. And knife tricks. What do you mean you can't teach a kid knife tricks? If they get cut, it's just part of the learning experience.
They're going to know how to skin an animal and get it's bones at a a young age and they are going to be the creepy kid in the classroom. Maybe his partner likes that. Maybe all three of them were/are the creepy kid in school.
If anyone tried bugging his kid, he would act really chill and nonchalant about it- and that person would disappear. Victor would have a new tally mark. Maybe his kid could even cut it on him themselves... Parent-child bonding!
Speaking of bonding, shooting galleries are a good bonding activity. They'll be a pro in no time!
Killer Croc
I briefly talked about it before, but Waylon has some complicated feelings about biological children. He knows his condition is genetic and while it could skip a few generations, what if it doesn't and his child hates him for "doing" that to them? Plus, yes, he worked things out with his mother eventually, but his childhood was rough. He'd be on the fence. Perhaps with some growth and the right person, yes.
Similar to Bane, he's nervous at first with a baby because they're so tiny and he's so huge. Even if it was a toddler from a previous relationship situation, it's a constant thought in his head. This passes the first time they laugh and giggle at him picking them up. That's an addicting feeling for him.
I need you to picture his child needing a theater costume finished and he's up way past bedtime individually bedazzling an ugly as sin animal costume. Because damn it, they asked and he is going to do it. That's the dad he is.
There is something so healing for him having his child love him exactly the way he is and not be frightened of his appearance. Touching his face, not judging him, they look at him and that's "daddy." When he first has that epiphany, it's going to make him really emotional and they won't understand. He's so... happy.
If anyone hurts his kid, there will come a very uncomfortable precipice of him potentially going back down a dark road. There's still those scars of anger and rage across his heart that would make him do some awful terrible things if he thought it meant his child would be safe. All of this increases tenfold if his child does inherit his condition. Not to be romanticized, it's genuinely something that could be a concern.
That said, they are going to get rides on his shoulders forever and get to feel so tall.
Harley Quinn
She loooooooves babies. The way they smell, their soft skin, their giggles- She has this magic with little kids where they know they can trust her and let loose. In another reformed life, she'd be an excellent preschool or kindergarten aide.
That being said, she's okay if she doesn't have kids due to having a trauma related miscarriage. If her partner never wanted kids, she's happy being the kooky aunt who gets them hyped up on sugar and passes them back to their parents exhausted.
As a parent, Harley is so much fun. Vacations, arts and crafts, sports if that's your thing! She'll even get into the nerdier intellectual stuff if that's what you like. Harley is adaptable and she wants her kid to be happy.
Unfortunately, sometimes Harley is a little TOO fun. Not enough rigid rules which can put her kids at a weird schedule which can get frustrating in the long run. Plus... Harley kind of steals the show a lot of the time. If her child isn't as outgoing, she might unintentionally take attention away from them in social groups.
They will never doubt they are loved. She makes a promise to herself they will never fear her or feel like they're too much. She loves the little human being they are and will grow into. If they ever get into an abusive relationship, she's going to skip directly past trying to get her child to see reason, she's just going to knock said abusers teeth out.
If her child is neurodivergent and in need of medication, she is ON IT. The moment she sees any potential symptoms, she's getting it looked into. She's very aware of the statistics of neurodivergent adults who got missed as children and how it can effect them. Plus with her degree? She's very aware of how that medication works and can go toe-to-toe with doctors when needed.
Poison Ivy
I'll be real with you, 75/25 in favor of no kids. Pamela would rather adopt or be a pet mom.
Most of the reasons for her not wanting kids is directly related to the environmental impact of the growing overpopulation of humans. Another big one is she has 0 interest in being pregnant. She already has one parasite effectively living in her body, thank you.
If she became a guardian of a child through adoption or somesuch, though, she's actually pretty maternal. Shows them how to walk through nature without hurting it, how to use it for medicine.
When her child is upset, she'd lift them into her plants to a place hidden where it's just the two of them. Allow them to cry against her while she hums a song to them. One her own mother sang to her when she was a child.
And yet, she doesn't hold a lot of sympathy for scrapes and bumps and bruises. Pick yourself up and continue. You'll get hurt, it's part of life.
If her child is female identifying, she is wickedly defensive of anyone looking at her. Threatens to feed them to her plants if they seem too friendly. If her child is male identifying, she'll teach them to be the perfect gentleman. Still very protective, but he's going to respect others. Nonbinary/third gender it would depend on the kid themselves.
All would be a little too wise and knowing. Knows how to manipulate others through looks and honeyed words.
She attends any and all parent-teacher conferences and has a vendetta against Karen from the PTA. Everyone knows Pamela's granola bars that she makes herself are superior to any store-bought crap Karen tries to swill.
Two-Face
COMPLICATED. Harvey thinks it wouldn't be "right" to have a child given his... condition. It's too confusing, they have a history of an abusive father. What if Harv lost control of impulses and hurt them? What if their career put the child in danger? What if-
Harv... actually wouldn't mind. You might not think so, given the temper and other things he has going on. But he's so much passion and an excitement for what you can get out of life. Having a kid sounds like a helluva lot of fun and he knows they could do a good job.
so likely, its going to be a maybe unless you can ease Harvey's mind.
HOWEVER IF THEY DID HAVE A CHILD, Fiercely protective. There is a constant internal battle between sheltering their child from everything... and they need to know how to use a fucking gun.
Harv is the fun dad. If their kid asks for something ridiculous, Harv is fighting to get first word in so there can be no take backs. Fuck yeah, we'll skip school and go to that theme park today. Shut up, Harvey, it's fine- live a little. Will let them have a nip of a really gross bitter alcohol to encourage them not to drink kind of dad.
Harvey is the dad you go to for scraped knees and a listening ear. He'll kiss their boo-boos and ask if they want to turn on their favorite movie. Knowing whose child they are, it's probably legal or a mystery. If their kid also has "My Cousin Vinny" as a favorite, expect Two-Face's partner to suffer in a myriad of quotes at any time.
Their kid would be educated. While they kind of hope the kid goes to law, they'll be supportive whatever it is and they WILL pay for college or a technical school for it. They'll stay up half the night helping their kid study if needed.
Black Mask
He cannot have children due to the after effects of the fire and life saving surgeries after said fire. In some ways, he finds it a relief because his childhood was pretty shit and he thinks he would be the guy to continue the cycle of abuse.
He would consider adoption if his partner was dead set but likely would say no. He "ruins everything he touches." If his partner happened to already have a child, he would take them on in an "uncle" capacity. Hands off, don't want to fuck them up. Definitely spoiling the fuck out of them, though.
Definitely big on them staying out of the life and getting those goals. Supportive of them going to some kind of business. Will do his best to hold his tongue if something else, but likely makes the occasional comment while still passing over money.
If they get out of line and they're an adult, he makes it a thing to remind them he's fucking their mom/dad. Petty, petty shit.
Mr. Freeze
He's not even sure he can have children. He and Nora had been trying before... before she got sick. He's unsure where the problem might have been. Plus, with his suit and all that comes with it...
If you wanted to get into the clinical biology of it- in theory, his sperm should be intact because of freezing, however, you can't just take something that delicate from one environment to another instantly as it would be with "natural" sex. If you wanted biological children with him, it would likely end up with quite a bit of labwork and trying different things.
In truth, if he got to a point where he was willing to move on with another person, he'd most likely be willing to start a family with them. In a perfect world, he always wanted to have a "normal" life, life just got in the way.
As a dad he'd be very loving, if not a little quirky. Others on the outside perspective might view him as a little cold and distant, but he loves in his own way. Always making sure they're bundled up in the winter, that when he gives them kisses, they're already warm under the covers, and that they can't get into any of his more dangerous research.
Definitely a stickler for rules. They can't go into his lab without strict parental supervision, homework is to be done once they get home, etc. Part of it is because rigid structure always helped him growing up, so he tries to lay that down for them. If for some reason that didn't work for them, he would readjust accordingly to the best of his abilities.
honestly, if you left it up to him, he'd plan everything down to the minute, he could absolutely use someone reeling him in a tad. Or a lot.
Ra's al-Ghul
It goes without saying having a child is a gigantic commitment, but somehow Ra's makes it even more intense. So many ceremonies, it feels like it's never ending. He won't deny the process of having his child will be difficult. They lost Talia's mother and he has no intentions of that happening again.
Even if his partner doesn't at all care about inheritance of the proverbial kingdom and all that entails, he makes it very clear any children they have are third in line behind Talia and then Damien. Does it really matter since he doesn't seem to have any plans to let his leadership go at any point? no! But they still need to Know The Rules of the game. It's an ancient family and someday he may no longer have a choice in letting go. Better everything is settled now.
As a parent he is... tough. There's a reason Talia and Damien are Like That. There's softness and affection sprinkled in, but... it's a lot of training from a young age. Being able to recognize different poisons. Fighting. Counter attacks. Weaponry and history education. Loyalty to the family.
There isn't a lot of coddling, to be honest. It isn't a reflection of his love for his child- He needs them to be strong to protect themselves. A lot of his affection comes when they finish the sparring. A kiss to the forehead and nursing any bruises. Perhaps he's getting a little softer in his old age. A joke he laughs at.
Bane
some of this I already touched on here on pregnancy hcs.
He's so insanely attentive to his child when he can be. From the moment his nervousness about his child being too fragile passes, that's his baby. Yes, his partner can and will hold the child, but Bane just as well prefers it's always him. Having them against his chest feeling his heartbeat.
He stresses and wants his child's life to be normal. He missed out on what it meant to BE a child. From a young age, he had to be ready for people to hurt him or even try to kill him for his father's crimes. Bane insists that will NOT be the case for him baby. Always a contingency escape plan if needed but otherwise...
He really does his best to be there in the morning for breakfast with them and to take them to school. Tries (and sometimes intimidates horribly) to socialize with teachers and other parents. Even when he's not juiced up, he's a huge man with a criminal record. But as long as no one holds that against his child, there will be no problems.
If there ARE problems, he takes care of them out of sight. His partner and the child don't need to worry about that. It won't happen again :)
Most likely he'll try to teach them boxing or hand to hand once they get a little older. Nothing as intensive as what he had to go through, but he knows he won't always be around to protect them, as much as that pains him. He constantly lets them win.

I love
I love when I get to hang out with any of my kids one on one. We need to make concentrated efforts to do it more often. I'm home with baby boy all week while my husband took the girls to Cali to see his parents/sister.
Baby boy is so much fun alone (as I've said a million times). We went to the Children's Museum and the MOMA kids art lab. Kids art lab was underwhelming but he enjoyed himself. Did a quick walk through of the art. He wasn't too impressed.
We had an indoor monkey bar system set up yesterday. It took the guys a lot longer then they planned. Last night I was regretting the choice. Felt a little too risky. I think I know how we can make it safer. Its supposed to be a part of his sensory diet. We used some funds we got when the DOE reimbursed for some OT costs.
Rebel was sick Thursday night. Thankfully fine all day Friday. Flew out very early on Saturday. His parents picked them up with masks and dropped them off at a hotel. They were supposed to go right to the cousins house and were scheduled to stay with his parents. I guess his parents were worried about the stomach bug. Which is understandable but I thought it was rude not too let my husband know beforehand. He got up at 4am to take two kids on a six hour flight by himself. He would have warned the girls they were expected to go isolate in a hotel room. Of course, my husband is a Saint and just went along with it. If my parents didn't see my girls for three months there is zero chance they would give up even one hour with them - sick or not. And they weren't even sick anymore. She never had a fever. Threw up 36 hours before. Anyway not my rodeo.
Baby boys ezcema is not good. His poor little cheeks. I guess its just the cold weather.
My own scalp is so, so, so itchy. Before the last month I've never in my life had this problem. No dandruff just itchy/burning. Its not a super bad pain level but its nonstop. It keeps me awake at night. I'm assuming its related to the low iron and the hair loss. Not sure what to do. Trying shampoos right now. Probably need to do some kind of eating changes but not sure exactly what and also don't want to. My skin is also itchy but that's less persistent. The skin is also something I'm used to when the weather gets cold like this.
DOE is giving new options for baby boy since they can't find providers. I'm on the fence. It involves a different school. Its not far away, is an inclusive classroom (8 special ed kids, 8 gen ed), would include all providers (OT, PT and speech) , and would include free summer camp which also includes all providers. These are all big benefits. Its a fancy private school - which is not our vibe. I guess they reserve some DOE spots. I don't really want my poorly behaved (but o so sweet) black boy to be a scholarship kid (in essence) in a school full of rich white kids. In their defense I think by private school standards it is more diverse then most. I don't want my kids to grow up with kids who think spending $60K a year for school is normal. I think it just gives a view of the world I don't want them to have. But that's more of a concern for older grades. Not an issue for 4yo's. He can go back to our little public school for K. We need to figure out a place for providers and this maybe our best option. The free summer camp is a big draw. I need somewhere that can handle kids like him. One that is paid for and includes his services would be a huge win. They do swimming lessons and teach Spanish. He's actually picking up some Spanish vocabulary (numbers, colors, animals) so a place where that can grow would be great. DOE is setting up a tour after winter break. I'm sure its a very nice facility. Let's see how it goes. I won't hold my breathe until a solution is actually implemented.

More Than a Mission - Chapter 1
"Alright, so it's easy," Rocket explained to the team. "Bangdat has this really old rock in the castle's private armory. It's got this metal called pnervonium in it. We get that, we make our big ass gun. We make our big ass gun, we can kill Geraldamine and free the Republic of Fendir. Make sense?"
The Guardians all nodded and hummed in affirmation, so Rocket continued.
"Adam, you get to be the star of our show here."
"B-But why me?" Adam had been continuing to learn and grow as he spent more time with the team. He was confident in his abilities as a fighter, and he knew he was intelligent, but he also now knew he wasn't a perfect being and that there was plenty more to learn. He wasn't sure that he would be the right one for this job. He could admit that his socials skills might've been...underdeveloped.
"Well, kid, you have class. Quill and I are assholes, Drax is an idiot 97% of the time, Mantis comes on a bit too strong, Groot isn't exactly the most desirable suitor, and Gamora and Nebula quite frankly have enough issues to deal with already. You're our only hope," Rocket explained. Adam hesitated before nodding his agreement and waiting for Rocket to further explain his role.
"You've gotta woo the princess."
"Woo the princess?"
"Woo the princess."
"What does that mean?"
"It means you go in, kill her parents, and tell her just how much she turns you on before you make love to her for 24 hours straight," Drax deadpanned.
"What the hell? No! Jesus, don't do that Adam!" Quill practically shouted. Adam was still trying to process half of what Drax had said, but knew better than to try. "You've got to be kind and polite. Get to know her, know her values. Impress her and her alive parents."
"Oh, okay, so I become friends with her?" Adam asked, trying to clarify his instructions.
"Well, sorta. You become really, really good friends with her. You've gotta get her to fall in love with you. Or at least get her to like you enough to let you down into the armory and you tell us the best way to get in. Once everyone's asleep, we sneak in, steal the stupid rock, take you, and get the hell off that planet," Rocket said.
Adam, still slightly confused, nodded. He could figure it out along the way.
"Good, cause we already sent the King and Queen notice of a new suitor coming their way."
xxxxxxxxxxxx
Adam enjoyed his walk to the palace despite the frigid temperatures. Everything seemed peaceful in a way. Waterfalls and rivers were still running free, and plants he had never seen before were in bloom. The snow fell softly, and he heard it crunch under his boots as he approached the guards. Instead of stopping him, they bowed to him and let him pass. Rocket's message must've been pretty convincing.
He took in the architecture around him. It was beautiful, like something he'd seen in a storybook Mantis had found for him from another planet. The walls were pale blue and looked almost as if they'd been made from ice. The paintings in the ceiling told stories of brave knights and beautiful queens, all surrounded by metal that was so intricate, so delicate. Adam couldn't help but wonder what the King and Queen of Bangdat would be like. More importantly, what would the Princess be like?
On the trip to Bangdat, Quill had told him plenty of "fairytales" from Earth for educational purposes. Ones of Princesses being poisoned, cursed, and trapped. This princess, as far as he could tell, was not anything like that. Adam found himself longing for the "happily ever after" that repeated itself in Quill's tales. He knew it was just a mission, but what if it was something more?
Would his princess be warm, friendly, and kind? Would he protect her and keep her safe from the beasts of the universe? Would she read with him at night in front of a fireplace, calm and content?
Adam was lost in his thoughts, but as he approached more guards on his way to the throne room, he collected himself.
As he entered, a guard made an announcement.
"His Royal Highness, Adam, the Warlock of the Sovereign!"
He kneeled before the King and Queen, head down as a sigh of respect.
"You may stand, young prince," the King said. He and his wife were old, both wrinkled and with a white-grey hair that seemed silver in the light of the palace. "You think yourself to be a suitor worthy of the Princess of Bangdat?" he queried.
"I do, your Majesty," Adam confirmed confidently, just like Rocket told him.
"Then let you have one week with her, and then we shall see if she deems you worthy. Daughter?" The King called for the Princess.
And when she entered the throne room, Adam felt as if he saw the universe standing before him. The Princess of Bangdat was more beautiful than any creature he had ever laid eyes upon. Her eyes seemed to glow, and her dress complimented her shape and complexion.
The only problem was, she glared down at Adam.
"Let there be a ball in celebration of my daughter and her suitor tomorrow evening!" The King announced.
Adam grew worried. He had a week to get her to love him, and a day to make her comfortable enough to dance with him.
He would try his best.

august slipped away into a moment in time
buck was - maybe, just maybe - behind in setting up his first-grade classroom, and eddie is the new caretaker on campus who keeps offering to help him out.
or - buck is a first grade teacher and eddie is the school caretaker with a crush.
ao3 link
There was something strange about your life revolving around the school semester as an adult. Buck knew he wasn’t an unusual case - every school needed adults to teach the children, after all - but he still found it funny, sometimes, to operate on the same schedule as a first grader. September signalled the start of it all, summer slowly, slowly, surely, turning to autumn, though not in that same crisp way it did in Pennsylvania: autumn was just a slightly less warm version of summer, here in Los Angeles, but that didn’t stop the same back-to-school excitement from bubbling in Buck’s chest as summer turned to fall, hot, sticky July days spent at the beach and babysitting Jee-Yun, turning to busy August days when Buck needed to get his classroom ready for the year ahead.
Buck loved August. He hadn’t always - when he was in school himself, August always came with a sense of dread, because the school semester meant expectations from his parents, he had never been able to live up to. How could he, when he was trying to live up to the memory of someone who would forever be perfect, unaffected by the woes of adulthood and not living up to your parents dreams for you by virtue of the fact he was always only ever going to be eleven years old. Buck wasn’t bitter towards a dead child: really, he wasn’t, and he knew how it sounded, but he was doing his best to forgive himself for the ways he was figuring out how to process his trauma.
It was what made him a good teacher, Buck had long since decided: his empathy, the way he looked out for the quiet kid in his class because he knew the difference between being the shy kid, and the kid who hated when the bell would go at the end of the day because it meant he had to go home and that wasn’t an appealing prospect for every kid. Buck - well, he tried to make it so that his classroom was a safe haven, and he couldn’t do that if -
“Hank, my window is broken,” Buck sighed, doing exactly what he always did when he had an issue in his classroom, barging right into the caretaker’s cupboard to annoy Hank - except Hank wasn’t the one in there. In place of the older man Buck took absolute delight in winding up from one end of the year to the next, Hank always huffing exasperatedly and telling Buck to get out from under his feet, there was the most gorgeous man Buck had ever seen in his twenty-seven years of life.
Buck had a tendency to be dramatic, he knew, but in this instance, he was not being dramatic at all. The man was gorgeous, all big brown eyes and a startled expression. He was wearing a flannel shirt, rolled to the elbow, his work trousers looking as though they’d just been taken out of the packet that morning, crisp and perfect. “You’re not Hank,” he said stupidly.
The stranger shook his head. “Hank - uh, he’s sick,” he said. “I’m - I’m temporary Hank?”
“Well, temporary Hank,” Buck couldn’t help but grin, slightly. “Have you got a name of your own?”
Temporary Hank laughed. “Yeah, I’m - I’m Eddie,” he introduced, offering Buck a hand. His grip was firm, calloused skin warm against the palm of Buck’s hand. “It’s nice to meet you. I - how can I help?”
“My classroom window is broken,” Buck repeated, and he just about held back from adding on a ‘and I don’t have your number, so you could help with that too’ because it was probably rude to harass the new school caretaker on his first day.
Eddie gave him a dazzling smile, kind and genuine and Buck’s known this man for roughly five minutes, and he already wants to kiss the air out of his lungs. He can be normal about this. “Let me grab my toolkit,” he said. “And I’ll come see what the problem is.”

I've seen a lot of discussion and break downs of characters and motivations. But there are things about Top and Boston that keep jumping out at me but no one seems to be bringing up so these are my Only Friends thoughts:
Top:
From where I sit, he's giving off some serious abuse survivor vibes. When Boston talks about wanting him, Top has the clear ability to state he isn't interested. But when Boston gets physical at any point, Top freezes and lets it happen to a point where he either has to start actively participating or make a show of force to end things. And while he's a bit bigger and probably stronger than Ton, he picks the more passive option. Generally a sign that he was either abused as a child or by a partner that he was with long enough to feel like he couldn't escape (conditioned into going along with the situation to ensure his safety). So I can't help but ask.... Was the house fire another sign of his parents neglect or was it a way for a parent to try and get rid of the damaged goods in the form of a child? Let's be real, Thai dramas do not shy away from truly fucked up parental abuse. We know Top still works for his father and takes his job seriously. Given what I've seen from dramas in the past and knowing that this show is wanting to push the boundaries I would not be surprised if the father had been abusing Top and the mother set a house fire to try to end Top's life in some fucked up attempt to put an end to the abuse.
I don't think he really likes Mew as a person. I think he likes the idea of someone who doesn't prioritise a physical relationship. Someone Top could be with and hold a bit of the control. Someone who might actually see Top as a person.
Boston:
He tops everyone else, bottoms only for Top. (This is not really relevant I just felt the need to say it)
So in ep 3 we find out Boston's dad is a politician and Boston can't so much as take a photo with a lover for fear of scandal. This explains a lot about his commitment issues. He is locked in the closet by his father's aspirations. Previous partners have probably been paid off to leave. If your first love hit the road for a cheque, you'd give up on love pretty quickly too. So again, I feel like it's a parental cause.
His obsession with Top may be a parent approval situation. It looks like Top and Boston's families are both rich and powerful and probably running in the same circles. Boston brings Top in from outside the uni. They very likely grew up as family friends. (That photo booth from the flash back is in Top's hotel) Top seems like a very obedient son and Boston has probably been given the "why can't you be more like him" speech at some point. Boston has a clear list of reasons why Top is "top-tier". Maybe he figures if he gets the best boyfriend going his parents might finally approve and let him keep a relationship. (Yes I know Ray's family is also rich and probably prestigious in some way but Ray is an alcoholic and Ray's mother also had addiction issues and a scandalous death so he's clearly not appropriate for dating a politician's son).
And I'm going to end this with a wild, definitely incorrect, theory that I'm sure will be defunct within an episode or so but I still want to put it out in the universe:
Sand is also a rich kid who got disowned for being bi/pan. Sand's ex is Boston. He would have been the partner that couldn't be bought but then Boston cheated on him with Top and everything went to shit. I know it's not an accurate head cannon but just imagine what it would mean for next week's interruption scene in the SandNick apartment.

oooooh for the made up title game, "gotham blues"?
thank you sm for the ask!!
ahhhh
my brain keeps reading that as “gotham city blues” but regardless!!! i’m picturing a 20s/30s era wip. jazz age, prohibition, flappers, rise of the mafia, early hollywood…
as a general note i think it would be more like… aesthetic than strictly historically accurate, as there would be some topics i wouldn’t be comfy handling / including. (altho maybe not glossing over entirely??)
was just talking with @deepwithintheabyss abt a new money jay (in a different context but) which. finally gave me the insp to figure out exactly what i wanted for this lmao
i’m a little split between jaytim & jaysteph for this—working in a throuple could be really cool. i’m thinking jason is ofc from the park row area. it’s being hit hard by the rise in crime; his parents having been middle class but poverty hitting them when his mom gets sick / his dad gets fired, or in debt to the wrong people. jason’s life is turned upside down as a kid, watching his dad fall deeper & deeper into crime. at first he was determined not to follow the same path but as he gets older, he gets more jaded, and much like in canon decides to stop crime by controlling it.
steph is a flapper—heavily involved in feminist circles, rebelling against the life she was raised for. her father is maybe an early actor, though he falls out of grace for,,, idk, reasons. her mother got hooked on drugs in part due to the stars & producers they hung out with. anyway, steph is determined to make something of herself.
tim—
i think the drakes are newish money, so there’s some stigma among the rest of high society. he never wanted to take over his parent’s business, despite his razor sharp mind, but when they die in a tragic accident he has no choice. his paths cross with both steph & jay.
jay is pro-feminism from the start i think; tim has some stuff to unlearn. bit of conflict there, but they manage to work through it. i’m picturing them somehow all getting tangled up together.
maybe,,,
jason is trying to unseat black mask or penguin or joker or—someone from the top seat. or. okay, maybe that’s ambitious, so let’s just go with black mask. black mask isn’t the ~top~ criminal in the city but he’s up there, and he’s jason’s first target now that he’s got his own following. sionis is competing with drake industries and viewed tim as a non-issue, figuring DI would dissolve after janet & jack died, so he arranged their deaths. tim discovers this during some digging, because he has a bad feeling about their deaths.
steph is tangled up in it too—her own vendetta with mask maybe, or mask being obsessed with her somehow? or maybe she’s just. guilty by association ig, and once she learns what’s going on ends up involved despite herself.
i’m not sure how i would / if i would work in the others; it would maybe come up as needed?
but yeah, basically a very… noir (?) type tale of intrigue & danger & love that isn’t a the best of ideas but is irresistible nonetheless.
would have a happy ending / happy for now ending tho bc i’m a sucker
[ send me a made up title & i’ll tell you what kind of fic i’d write for it ]

Regressor!Gentle Criminal Headcanons
(with cg!La Brava)
Tumblr media
A lot of Danjuro's motivation for his goals can be attributed to a deep-seated desire to be wanted and loved. To find a way to earn those things, because for him they never seemed to come naturally. As a child he decided he wanted to be a hero because he saw the way his parents' eyes lit up when looking at them, how they praised them (things they never did for him the older he got because he always, always managed to mess things up somehow). And when that path didn't pan out no matter how persistent he was, no matter how much he wanted to help, well...there were other ways to make his mark and fill that void inside of him. Heroes need villains, right? He would be filling an important role and bringing attention to a lot of issues in society! People would surely come around. So it isn't really much of a surprise that his regression presents itself due to the same underlying issues and insecurities. Right when he's trying his hardest to get his life turned around to where he wants to be, a tiny mistake sends him over the edge. It should be nothing—by all accounts is nothing—but making tea is a simple task that he's supposed to be good at and now he's gone and burned his fingers and, and... And he's sticking his fingers in his mouth to soothe the owwie away like he's done a million times before for things like burns or cuts, but this time is different because something just...clicks. The childish habit feels like it's leaking into the rest of his brain, enveloping his entire body in a comforting warmth as he realizes that if he was younger, then it would be okay, wouldn't it? To make mistakes? Back then his mistakes could be overlooked because he was small and still learning. Maybe...maybe he can pretend for a little while. Even if it feels less like pretending than he thinks it should. What Danjuro does know is that it feels good. It feels easy.
After his first slip, Danjuro tries to recapture that feeling any way he can think of, all while trying to put together his Gentle Criminal persona. Even after he came back to himself that first time, things had continued to feel lighter for a little while. Though he finds that he's experiencing everything from involuntary regression to voluntary regression the more effort he puts in to triggering it. Moreover, it isn't as consistent or predictable as he would like for it to be. He thinks surely another injury or another mistake would make him slip since that was what caused it the first time, but that turns out to be a toss up. Even purposefully doing activities geared more towards children—a stroke of genius that he is certain will lure out the little boy in his psyche—is another hit and miss. Trying to sort out what works best for him (and what to avoid) inevitably leads to him both age dreaming and age regressing—there's a few subtle differences as far as he can tell, at least in his particular case. It's a wishy-washy line for him, but he figures out that the main difference between the two is his age. Or at least that's what conclusion he comes to, based on the fact that if he's age dreaming he can still do plenty of big kid things for himself (even if he does them poorly). So he estimates his dreaming age to be somewhere around six or seven, while his regressing age is closer to three or four. Once he eventually manages to sort out more reliable ways to age regress however, he still can't help but age dream from time to time as well. Because if doing both helps him, then why not do both?
He has regressed in public before and will do it again, whether he wants to or not. Specifically, he is highly prone to regressing in the second-hand store he frequents. There's nothing new about going to these sorts of shops, as his funds have never been exactly stable after being kicked out striking out on his own, but rather there's something new about him. It doesn't matter how big he is feeling that day either, or when he last regressed. Because without fail, by the time he goes to pass the children's section his chest starts feeling tight and his head starts feeling like it's full of stuffing. It's impossible to stop himself from making a detour and browsing the toys. Danjuro is practically running on some sort of wobbly autopilot as he reaches out for one of the teddy bears staring up at him from the shelves, all plush fur and button eyes and practically begging for a hug. A voice in the back of his mind telling him that this poor little fellow has been tossed out and abandoned, forgotten. He can't just leave them here! And so Danjuro finds himself scraping together what change he has left (maybe even putting something back he needs more) to try and bring home as many teddies as he possibly can at the end of each week. It's his personal teddy rescue mission, and the beginning of his teddy bear collection; other stuffies are of course more than welcome to come home with him, but the classic teddy is his favorite. The fact that his shopping cart is comprised of mostly his newfound friends shouldn't tip anyone off, he thinks—although the way he takes longer to count out his yen might, counting out on his fingers yet still needing the help of the elderly woman that runs the place to help him reach the correct amount with a knowing twinkle in her eye.
Now, it may come to absolutely no one's surprise but this thing is a tea party fiend. If he's having a small day, there's about a ninety percent chance that there will be a tea party at some point amongst his many make-em-ups. Danjuro gets very into his pretend play and treats it quite seriously, with tea parties being no exception to this rule. All of his teddies have a specific seating arrangement that is liable to change depending on the current teddy bear drama (Snuggles is still not speaking to Daisy at the moment and they have to sit with several bears between them, a bearrier if you will, or there will be problems by the time Danjuro is offering all the bears another cup). There is also a set menu for these little parties too, which is subject to change depending on whether or not he's dreaming or regressing. If he's age dreaming, then he's making little sandwiches cut into triangles accompanied by a floral green tea blend. However if he's age regressing, then he has to go a little simpler. Simpler of course referring to opening a box of lemon cookies that he carefully sets onto the little saucers served with whichever bottle of juice is easiest for him to get open. Both menus are equally good and tasty if you ask him, and he's certainly had no complaints from the bears...but sometimes Danjuro wishes he had someone else to help with all the grown-up parts about setting up and to share his snacks with. Tea parties are all about "the more the merrier" after all, and it would be nice to have someone besides his bears to talk to (as they most often derail the childish worries he is trying to express with their teddy bear drama that is honestly getting a little too complicated for him to keep up with).
Eventually he is no longer alone, of course! But that doesn't mean he immediately tells his new house guest about the smaller parts of himself. Manami is absolutely wonderful and already helping him out more than he could even begin to describe; Danjuro doesn't want to scare her away by being too much, not when she's the first person that seems to understand him. They click surprisingly well, almost as if they've always known each other. So it really should come as no surprise that when she does inevitably catch him on one of his small days that she isn't bothered by it. Danjuro thought it would be best to just ignore all of that once Manami quite literally showed up on his doorstep, and instead focus on further developing his life as Gentle Criminal. But repressing that healthy coping mechanism that he's come to rely on so much is far from a long term solution. Especially when he keeps slipping in little ways. Little ways that Manami, ever observant, picks up on. And not only does she pick up on these small slip-ups, but she always seems to respond in a way that makes it so incredibly hard for him not to slip further. Forever acting as compliments to one another, it's only natural that his regression would be matched by her caregiving. Her heart is so big and she only wants to help! So what if he needs more help than other people? It isn't a big deal. The small gestures that she doesn't even think about—like reaching out to dab his face with a napkin after lunch when he's gotten a little messy, or covering him up when he falls asleep at his desk—leave him in a tizzy. So when he finally can't keep it bottled up any longer, it isn't hard to just...let her find out. They're comfortable enough with one another by that point that Manami doesn't even give a second thought to him shyly asking if she could help him with the tea, only asking him about the fuzzy friend he's got hugged to his chest.
Over time, he starts feeling a bit more bold about things with the bravado from his Gentle persona bleeding into his little mindset. This bravado primarily manifesting as energy and curiosity. Much like an overgrown puppy that's gotten off of its leash, a high energy baby spells trouble. Danjuro simply must do something or he'll die of boredom, and what he decides he must do is bounce. If he cannot find a bouncy castle then by God will he create one—while technically he could use Elasticity on the walls and floors of his entire room, he might get in trouble with his landlord (which a voice in the back of his head that sounds an awful lot like Manami tells him is a no-no). Although it turns out he can make his bed extra bouncy if he uses his quirk on it, and then really all he has to do is make a few other little jumping pads for himself out of some (again, quirk-altered) sofa cushions that he has carefully dragged from the living room and repositioned in his bedroom. It works out pretty well too, allowing him to bounce around his room to his heart's delight. Until he falls off and bumps his head, that is. Really, it was to be expected given that his coordination while he is feeling so small is lacking to put it nicely. Luckily the bump isn't too serious, but it does bring tears to his eyes as he hiccups because it's quite scary to fall! Just as Danjuro is starting to feel like the world truly hates him he hears the lock on his front door open with a click, which lets him know Manami is home and he suddenly remembers that he isn't supposed to use his quirk if he's little. Which in turn leads him to scrambling to hide the sofa cushions that won't go back to normal for a few hours yet, which results in him slipping and falling again only this time falling flat on his face. Manami is less worried about him breaking a rule and instead focuses her energy on fussing over him and making sure he didn't break his nose.
Danjuro is very sensitive to making any sort of mistake or having any sort of accident. This anxiety and panic that accompanies making a mistake only increases once Manami becomes his caregiver. Not because she is mean about it, because she's always so so patient with him (showing him more patience than he thinks he deserves). No, he worries because what if she decides he's so bad that she throws him away just like mommy did? Manami does her best to reassure him that nothing like that would ever happen no matter how badly he messed up, explaining that they can always make things better again together. Still, while her words are appreciated it's very different when he's all of three and he accidentally drops one of his nice teacups as she's handing it off to him. The sight of the shattered glass gives his complex about always screwing everything up all the permission it needs to sink its claws into his chest and make it hard to breathe. There's a long moment where it's hard to hear, hard to move, but he finds he's ushered to the couch and wrapped in a hug. It takes a few minutes of quietly soothing him and reminding him to take slow, deep breaths, but eventually he calms enough for her to get up to clean up the broken porcelain. Though first she makes sure to wind up the carousel music box for him and place it on the coffee table. The gentle, tinkling of the music box as it spins is enough to disguise the clinking of the porcelain being swept up, the moving pieces being followed by his gaze as he nurses a few digits. He wishes he could believe Manami when she says he doesn't make as many mistakes as he thinks. All Danjuro can really think about is how he will prove himself through the flawless actions of Gentle Criminal.

Hospital food lacks Love (911-Missing Scenes from 6x11 In Another Life)
Author's note: one of two fics that I wanted to write after last night's episode. Bobby expresses love through food often. And hospital food is meh at best. So this is what I feel would have happened. Also posting on mobile so no reason more. Sorry about that.
And it's canon now that Bobby is Buck's dad. They didn't just hint, they said it.
Buck has two sets of parents and that is awesome.
SPOILERS!
Enjoy!
Everyone had gone home. He had even somehow convinced Maddie, Bobby and Eddie he'd be fine for a few hours. The staff had brought him a tray with dinner on it and told him to eat slowly because it was one of the first meal since he had been intubated. And he assured them he would. He tries to eat it. He really did. The main issue was that this is not what he wanted to eat. It was a painful reminder that he was stuck in the hospital, eating hospital food. The blandest and boring safe food that is hospital food. He ate a bit but ultimately it wasn't appetizing at all. So he pushed it away and grabbed his phone. He debated on who to text. Maddie would probably tell him the food he was supposed to eat was that way because he had a tube shoved down his throat. They probably didn't want to overwhelm his system. Eddie might say the same thing or he might offer to sneak him in a burger or something. But the one person he knew would always make sure he had enough to eat was Bobby. Bobby always made sure Buck was okay. Even his unconscious mind knew Bobby was there for him. Cared for him. He would always appreciate Bobby being there for him. He loves Bobby like he did his own dad. Maybe even more at times. Bobby was the father figure that had been there when he needed him. His unconscious mind even brought him back from the dead when he needed him. So he sent Bobby a text.
Buck: hospital food 🤢
Bobby: that bad tonight?
Buck: im just going to eat the jello
Bobby: you really should eat something, Buck
Buck: its so boring and terrible
Bobby: did you at least try?
Buck: yes dad
Buck meant for it to come off as a sarcastic joke. Bobby didn't need to know that it felt more accurate to him. And knowing that Athena was the only voice that really broke through to him during his dream made him feel cared for. Loved. It really did feel like he had two sets of parents. Phillip and Margaret Buckley, the ones that initially brought him into this world and we're trying to reconnect with him. He could appreciate that. And the ones that helped bring him back into the world this time, the ones that love him by choice, not because of obligation, Bobby and Athena.
Bobby couldn't help but smile as he read Buck's text. Any hesitation that he might have had to sneak Buck something to eat vanished. Buck had a grip on his heart and he had for a long time. Since Bobby helped him get ready for that awful date all those years ago. Buck sat nestled in his heart alongside the kids he lost and the kids he gained when he married Athena. May was right.
Bobby: you want me to sneak you in something don’t you
Buck: Id say I’d die for it but too soon
Buck: right?
Bobby: Right
Buck: Yes sir *saluting emoji*
Bobby: I’ll make & bring you breakfast tomorrow
Buck: this is why you are the best
"What are you smiling about?" Athena asks as she joins him. Bobby just hands her his phone.
"Of course," Athena grins. "He got you with that dad text didn't you?"
"Even May says it's true," Bobby says.
"Because it is. He may have his real parents in his life, and they seem to be trying, but he knows he will always have you. And that means something."
"It does," Bobby smiles. "I'm so glad he's okay. I will make him whatever he wants if it means he'll stay that way."
"I know you will. He knows it too."
The next morning Bobby makes breakfast for his family. Omelets. Fluffy omelets that are packed full of tiny pieces of whatever any of them wanted. And he packs up one that he knew Buck would like. He packs it as best he can to keep it warm. Packed along with some other stuff he was bringing to help keep Buck from going crazy during his recovery. Some of it May and Harry insisted he would need. He headed to the hospital.
He knocked on the door before entering Buck's hospital room. The smile on Buck's face made Bobby smile.
"Morning," Buck greeted him.
"Morning, Harry and May said to tell you to feel better soon. Like soon, soon," Bobby shakes his head. "They also sent stuff to keep you sane. So here." He sets the bag of stuff on the bed. "Also breakfast is in there so there's that."
"Yes!" Buck grins. And pulls the tray table closer so he can pull everything out. He eagerly opens the container and finds the utensils. "Thanks, Bobby." He hums when he takes a bite. "I feel like I haven't had anything with flavor in ages."
"It's been less than a week, Buck," Bobby chuckles.
"And it feels way longer," Buck complains.
"You're just bored," Bobby says.
"You aren't wrong," Buck notes.
"Well I don't have a shift until tomorrow, so finish your breakfast and we can find something to do."
"Thanks Bobby, you really are the best," Buck smiles.
"Anytime, kid. Anytime."

MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairings : robin buckley x gn!reader
summary : you and robin are meant for each other, and nothing could get in the way of you two. but, maybe some secrets and a clock-obsessed monster can.
words : 1.0k
warnings : ANGST (i'm sorry), character death, foul language, reader literally getting vecna'd, attachment issues, past trauma, reader doesn't have the best parents, grief.
a/n : sorry for not posting much!! i don't have any ideas recently or any motivation to write but i have some now so maybe i'll write more!! and sorry about the shitty writing and the messy plot. alsoo i sorta changed the layout for my posts, hope u like it <33 oh and the reader is a theater kid :)
Tumblr media
you first noticed robin at your theater play. gosh, you couldn't get your eyes off of her. which is probably why you didn't get the starring role in the next play. she was just too pretty, her strawberry blonde hair, her eyes like the ocean, the pretty rings on her hands. you wanted to get to know her more than anything.
she noticed you too. your enchanting voice as you offer your lines, the way your hair was perfectly styled, you just look so pretty. robin wanted to get to know you more than anything.
the second time you saw robin was at the grocery store. it was a hot day, pretty hot for a normal day in hawkins. you were running errands and wanted to grab a cool snack before you leave the store. so, you went to the ice cream isle and grabbed the last mint-chip flavored cone, and thats when you saw robin.
her hand touched yours as she stuttered, trying to find the right words to apologize. "sorry, i- i didn't know you wanted this too". she apologized. "it's fine. you're robin right?"
"yeah! y/n right? i'm pretty sure we have the same english and art class. and uh i saw your play as well." robin nodded.
she noticed you in your classes too? if you weren't in a grocery store right now you would probably start screaming like shit.
"oh yeah! and thanks for going to my play as well." you smile causing robin to go red. robin swore that your smile would save her from anything.
"of course, you were really.. really, really great there. i loved it! and i'm really excited to see more." robin complimented. "awh, thank you! that really means a lot. but i don't think theres gonna be much" you laugh. "why? you were amazing up there" robin questioned.
because i was staring at you, no. you cannot say that.
"uh mrs. smith wanted to see more of the other students you know? i've been up there for a bit so it'll be nice to see someone else." you lie as robin nodded.
"um anyways, you wanted this?" you ask, handing out the ice cream. "oh yeah, you can have it though, i mean you were there first and i don't mind"
"no, no it's fine. you can have it, i insist" you say, giving the ice cream to robin. "oh, thanks! well, i better get going now. it was really nice talking to you, y/n." robin smiles.
oh my god were you in love.
but now, nothing is nice about whats going on. after talking to robin a lot more you became her best friend, and then her lover. which basically meant your gonna go down with whatever shit she gets into. which also includes fighting monsters such as the mind flayer and vecna.
"a normal summer sounds really nice right now." you say. you are now currently in the wheeler's basement with robin while waiting for nancy to figure out a plan upstairs.
"maybe after we kill this creep, we can have a normal summer together." she smiles, holding your hand tightly. "yeah, together." you smile, kissing her cheek.
you love robin so much, the moment you saw her in the crowd of your play, you knew she was the one for you, or... maybe is it because you got to attached so quickly? that was a bad habit of yours.
your parents never really give you the attention you needed, do they even try? you never felt loved by them, you don't think they even like you very much. they're never there for you. it was always you and yourself, alone. that's one of the reasons you wanted to join theater so badly, the attention and validation you get. you feel loved and happy. theater makes you feel loved. robin makes you feel loved.
"y/n? y/n? you okay?" robin asks. you didn't realized you blanked out a bit. "oh, yeah i'm fine sorry" you say, reassuring her with a smile. "oh okay good. i thought you were about to start ranting or something" she laughed. "rant? about what?" you chuckle nervously.
"how you think that i actually love you?" robin scoffs. you shook your head, this is just a nightmare, she does love you. "what? do you really think i care about you? love you? you don't really learn do you?" robin continues.
no, no, that's not robin. her eyes were blank as her smile turns veiny, morphing into this sort of monster. "pathetic aren't you? thinking that your finally loved by someone."
a clock chime strucks your ear as tears started falling down from your eyes. "robin!" you shout. "robin! steve! someone please!" you shout, backing into a corner.
"robin cannot help you. no one can help you. you see you belong to me now." it says. "no." you shook your head as its bloody hand reach closer and closer to your face. "she does not care. she never did" it continues.
"that's not true." you cry.
"stop lying to yourself. you cannot win, this is your destiny, this is how you end." it stated, you feel your body go numb as you feel yourself rising. "and no one can save you"
you couldn't fight it anymore, it was too strong. you couldn't feel anything at all, and everything was pitch black. all you were left with was the muffled screaming of your love, shouting your name. but you couldn't reply, because it was all over now.
"no! no! no! y/n please, please, please don't leave me" robin cries, holding your now dead body close to her. "please y/n, please i need you." she pants. "steve! nancy! help!" robin continues shouting.
steve comes down along with the others as they saw your bloody body. "help! we need help please!" robin cries out as nancy rushes as checks your pulse. there was nothing there.
"i'm sorry." nancy says, hugging robin as she cries on her shoulder. you were gone, and no one could help you anymore.

i hit a breaking point with my sister recently. shes only 12 but shes a preteen so of course shes a bit more work than i would expect. my parents were out the house, and i cared for her like i have for years when theyre out. i even help with my older brother, but back when he wasnt 18, when he was 17 and younger!
she got mad at me for taking too long to shower, then for "looking mean", then she yelled at me for not making her the food my mom makes.
I regret what i did but i talked back. i told her i wasnt mom, im just a girl. i tried the gentle parenting thing, even read my old parenting book i bought when i turned 11!! i still couldnt control what came out my mouth, i was cold to her. i said "fine, you don't have to like it, or me just stop fucking yelling at me like im your mom. im 16 not mama. im still a kid"
she told my parents and they didnt even know what to do, my sister WANTED me in trouble, but instead my parents just ate a silent dinner last night and tonight.
im not a mom, im just a 16 year old person trying to be a good person for the piece of intolerable idiocy of my sister. i love her, but shes so annoying.
I'm not sure what to say, you were right about saying you were a 16 year old, and not your sister's caretaker. Your parents obviously put you in a role of parenting your sister, and you tried so hard, so it's no wonder your temper ran out when all that hard work was met with unpleasantness and lack of gratitude, but this is because your parents put you in a role you were never meant to be in. You're not an adult, you're not supposed to be expected to have researched parenting and to figure out the best way to parent your sister, this is insane that they asked this of you.
What they've done is called 'parentification', and it's putting a child into a role of a parent, expecting them to have their problems figured out on their own and on top of that to care for their siblings, and sometimes even the parents themselves. This puts the immense pressure on a child to keep peace, make everyone happy, appear to have no troubles, no issues of their own, and then also so quickly grow up that they can effectively care for their siblings, have endless patience, do tasks perfectly and take on responsibilities they were not trained or developed enough to do.
You are not supposed to be burdened with all this, you're supposed to be chasing your own interests and hobbies, have free time and enjoy yourself, figure out how to fit with your own peers, have friendships and first relationships, you're not supposed to be burdened with parenting and making everyone in your house happy. You're supposed to be cared for.
So I don't think you've done anything wrong, and it is alarming that your younger sister wanted to get you in trouble - it sounds like she's already realized you're at the end of made up 'hierarchy' of who is supposed to be blamed for everything, so she took advantage to affirm that her place is above you, and that you will be punished if she isn't pleased with you - which has to be immensely painful for you, who worked so hard to try and parent your sister.
She is 12 and just absorbing whatever her environment is telling her, and I actually don't know enough about 12-year-olds to say if her actions were normal or messed up at that stage, I can tell that they hurt you and that it wasn't fair towards you.
Your parents seem to have done absolutely nothing to resolve this situation, to comfort you, or to parent their own 12 year old, which makes this even worse, to know that when you're at the end of your rope and no longer know or can do anything, that even then they will not pitch in and act like adults and resolve a painful situation, or to even comfort you after an incident. I'm really sorry you're in this situation, you shouldn't be. I know this happens a lot, people have children and then think it's an easy out just to leave to the older children to parent the younger, it's not a cool trick, it's neglect and burdening children with their own responsibilities. I hope one day you experience what it's like to be free of responsibilities like this, and to know that it's not your job to raise children you didn't have - even though in this case I understand you love your little sister and you're ready to take on a lot of burdens just to make her life easier. It's still not fair, and this burden shouldn't be put on your shoulders.
If anyone else can relate to this situation or knows some good words to say, please add to this post. I didn't have a personal experience like this, so I probably am not the best person to make comments on judgment on it, hearing other people's experiences might help.

Can you do romantic yandere!Professor Laventon headcanons please?
Ironically I see him more as platonic, while Turo I got as platonic despite me leaning more towards romantic with him. I just thought that was really funny, lol. Sure! I'll see what I got :)
Yandere! Professor Laventon Concept
Pairing: Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Stalking, Guilt tripping, Manipulation, Paranoia, Clingy behavior, Isolation mention, Oh wow the relationship is mutual.
Tumblr media
Laventon has a very welcoming personality, coming off as friendly and hardworking.
Perhaps your fate is similar to the main characters of Legends: Arceus?
Except this time you're an adut given the task of seeing every Pokemon or something.
You go through the typical Legends: Arceus story, Laventon taking you in to the village and being nothing but kind to you.
He's such a caring man to you, along with the two young teens Akari and Rei.
Ever since he took you into the village he's spent time with you.
You help him piece together the Pokedex with him using info you obtained along with info from Akari and Rei.
Laventon slowly starts to see you as something more than a friend he introduced to the village.
You only solidify such feelings when you made a comment one time.
You watched as Laventon tended to Akari/Rei after being hurt in the field.
He's taking care of them and reassuring them it's okay.
He only stops when you speak to him.
"You'd be such a great father with how you take care of those two."
You laugh at the end of the affectionate comment, not catching how much his face heated up at that.
Oh the poor man is ruined after that.
That one comment only encouraged his obsession.
Mostly because he feels you both take care of the two young teens well...
The mannerisims between the four of you scream family.
He secretly adores the idea of you two being parental figures to Akari and Rei.
When you're away, Laventon is busy in his lab.
He knows he should be putting together the newest research... but he's so invested in updating this journal he has of you instead.
He uses the excuse that he's so scatterbrained he has trouble putting the research together.
When in reality he's writing down your favorite flowers, favorite Pokemon, and everything you like.
He loves to see the smile on your face when he gives you something you like.
Sometimes you stick around the lab to help him actually work on the Pokedex.
You have no idea why he's having so mucn trouble working alone lately?
Or why he can't keep his eyes off you while you help him.
Laventon seems to be the type who's hesitant to start a relationship at first.
If you really were from a diiferent dimension, it'll only make things harder.
However... when he feels brave enough to ask you to be his, he'll make it perfect.
He's doing research into what will really make your heart flutter.
He even asks Akari/Rei about what you like.
Based on how he acts when questioning them, it's clear he has strong feelings for you.
It's up to you if him giving you your favorite Pokemon, flowers, and food on the day he asks you to be his is endearing or creepy.
How'd he know all this so fast?
Laventon is not a yandere to be jealous to the point of harm.
In fact, he's rather calm.
The more toxic traits of his are his clingy/needy behavior and him being protective.
For example, he doesn't like you on expeditions due to how dangerous Pokemon are.
He's scared he'll lose you in a world as wild as Hisui-
Other than him trying to keep you in the village... he's really sweet.
He does his best to be the best boyfriend for you.
He loves to hold you... to kiss you...
He also encourages you to help him take care of the two young teens.
Laventon probably has fantasies of starting a family with you.
Even if you can't have kids, Akari and Rei are enough aren't they?
There's not a hint of possession in this man, making him rather tame.
The biggest issue is just his paranoia over your safety.
Even with Pokemon partners, the world is still dangerous.
He'd rather you stay in the lab with him...
That way you both can work on the Pokedex without the danger!
He seems too gentle and friendly to be a very intense yandere-
He wants the best for you and to keep you safe.
It may cause fights if you refuse to stay with him and run into danger, maybe?
If you got hurt... then he locks things down.
He tries to guilt/force you into staying in the village with him.
You got hurt out there.
What if he never found you!?
Overall, Laventon is a yandere who cares for your safety and happiness above all else.
He'd defend and protect you no matter what...
Even if it includes stalking and isolation.

HIII my god I am a huge fan of all your fics, I have gone through just about every one of them besides the book of merthur (still trudging through that one I fear.........) and the way you encapsulate arthur's horrible mommy issues is the best I have seen of it. Sometimes I try my best to find some merthur fics and I don't recall seeing that part of Arthur EVER explored (to be a little more fair the show was shit at doing that too..... but come on if you truly love arthur you're obligated to fuck his life over some more ☝️.) Making Hunith essentially adopt him is so endearing to me as well I really just love what you're doing.
This is just out of curiosity because I've seen with most of your fics you've kept balinor out of the picture, and I'd really love to know your thoughts about him (bad thoughts and/or good thoughts I am all for toxicity and hate 🙏). I think I like the concept of him more than the shows portrayal of him, I have in the past found deleted scenes and concepts that kept more references to him???? And that was for Arthur too with his mother???? That is quite up there for me for some of the worst things the show has done to me. Anyway. Again I like the idea of him, haven't personally found fics that portray him that caught my eye (how do you make the title 'dragonlord' so lame. it has DRAGONS to it. I should've immediately been all for him) I'd love to have your thoughts :)))
'(to be a little more fair the show was shit at doing that too..... but come on if you truly love arthur you're obligated to fuck his life over some more ☝️.)' The show was shit at most things characterisation, to be fair. lmao But, yeah, I agree, I think Arthur's parental issues are central to who he is. He has a mother he never got to meet and therefore idolizes because a dead mother is a perfect mother; and then his only remaining parental figure has never been a source of warmth or comfort to him.
Balinor I don't think is as huge a presence in Merlin's life. Merlin always had a parent who loved him; his dad was just somebody who was gone before he ever knew him, and I don't think that's haunted him to the same degree as Arthur because Hunith was a loving, stable constant in Merlin's life. He also has a father figure in Gaius. The show really just brought Balinor into the picture as a deus ex machina to enable Merlin to control dragons; the emotional impact of his appearance falls short because we never really see Merlin wondering who his dad was or lamenting the fact that he grew up without one.
I'm actually more interested in Balinor from Hunith's perspective. Was this some tragic romance? Was he the love of her life who had to flee unexpectedly when Uther sent people after him? He's still talking about Hunith decades later. Does he just sit around in his cave sadly thinking about her and she's in Ealdor like, "Balinor who? Oh, yeah, that guy who knocked me up." Or is that why when we see her, she's single and seems to have raised Merlin by herself and never took (a? another? I can't remember if the show says for sure, but I had the impression she and Balinor were never married) husband?
In the OG medieval versions of the legend, Merlin was fathered by an incubus, making him half-demon. I think exploring that would have been more interesting than a cranky hermit who shows up for half a second just to be killed off for some cheap angst. It also would explain why Merlin's father is never really talked about; if I were Hunith, and I had been impregnated by some sexy male demon that showed up at night while I was half-asleep, I wouldn't tell my kid about it either. And that would be a pretty huge revelation for Merlin, who in the very first episode asks Gaius if he's some kind of monster. It would explain why he's so powerful and create a huge source of turmoil for him because the answer to whether or not he's a monster is actually, "Well, yeah, kind of. Half, anyway." I have actually toyed with the idea of doing something with this, so I might read up some more on those origin stories and do a one-shot at some point exploring this concept. Balinor as a dragonlord, tbh, doesn't really do it for me; Balinor as an incubus, on the other hand. *chef's kiss*
Balinor, for me, is really just one more in a long line of 'Well I wish they had done THAT differently.' The show is riffing on a body of myths that has many different versions of many different stories; there is no concrete canon, like with any folklore. So I don't take issue with them putting their own spin on so many of the stories that are central to Arthuriana: I just think the specific spin they put on many of the main aspects of the legends were lazily executed, and not worth changing if they weren't even going to bother laying the groundwork for their own individual take on a story that has been told and retold and tweaked for centuries. Balinor is just one more victim to the BBC's propensity for prioritising fart jokes and bad bald caps over silly things like consistent characterisation and narrative coherency. Not that I'm bitter, says woman 662,372 words into her second show rewrite.
