I know it’s a long shot and no pressure, but I would absolutely love if you added more to the Battle for the Cowl Batfam AU. It’s so cute and I love the family bonding aspects of it in particular. Like when they all go out together as Batman and there are just multiple Batmen. And Gordon is just so done with them… Yeah, so, soft request for more at some point in the future? Again, no pressure.
Sorry friend I unfortunately don't see myself adding more to the bftc au anytime soon mostly bc I regret a lot of the decisions I made when first making that au and now every time I look at it all I can think is God I wish I'd done this differently so I think unless I'm completely redoing the au (which I also dont see myself doing bc that may get confusing fast) I'm not gonna add to it any time soon

How the yandere batfam would react to a reader on thier period
Warning(s): periods ig,
Notes: reader is meant as nonbinary, this is like only canon for ppl who want it to be, writer is TRANS FUCKING MASC so if the reader seems that way to, then SUCK IT instead of being rude (politely ofc)
-
Alfred: so.much.tea this man believes that tea will fix everything actually and finds the best period tea. Can get bloodstains out of anything which is very helpful for if you bleed through your clothes like i do (cough fuck days 1-3 couch)
Bruce: Will buy you literally anything that you want, if you even so much as mention something it ends up at the house. was a doctor so he gets you the extra strong pain meds (and if you’re a little loopy all the better for him). will not let you do anything
Dick: has the weirdest remedies on the earth but all of them work somehow. Runs warm so you can use him as a human heater, and he will massage your back if your body just aches.
Jason: will not let anyone bother you if you’re sleeping (unless damian is like half awake and demanding to cuddle bc it’s so cute!) and stands at your door. he’s such a presence to hold onto if you’re sad or upset during the day.
Cass: You two are probs synced together so she is also suffering. winds her body around you to keep you warm and safe, feels like she needs to protect you at all times. makes a nest of blankets and hides you inside of them
Tim: does not know what to do at first but puts his entire self into working on it. makes you a special heatpad that massages and heats (glory be to the tim) that gets him so much love from you and Cass
Duke: if you’re feeling insane or stupid this is the person to go to. He talks it through with you, if you feel bad in your body, he reassures you, in general duke keeps you sane when everything feels completely out of sorts.
Damian: calls his own mother and asks every question under the son before taking everything that his siblings have been doing and finding more effective ways to do it (does in-fact tell them the better ways) and curls up near you at night, watching out for anything that could hurt you

So I am rotating the batfamily, but not like, civilian or vigilante. I am slowly rotating them all having a Malone-sona of sorts that is their in to organized crime.
Like you can't tell me people wouldn't start noticing this family that the bats, the literal cryptids and monsters of Gotham, don't even touch and lets continue to operate despite taking the older crime families apart.
And to Gotham that screams power.
Alfred = Albert “Old Al” Malone I wanna say that he doesn't go out as 'Old Al' often, but gives off Godfather sort of vibes. Usually sitting there with an old cane (that definitely has a sword, they're all dramatic like that lol) half in the dark with a cup of tea or other drink. He gets to stretch his acting skills and honestly the kids definitely had a say in the persona. Old Al is something they all made together and they have fun implying so much fun shit.
Kate = Mary “Madam” Malone She definitely gives off 'snap your spine over her knee if not for the fact it would get your blood all over her clothes' vibes. Stylized nails, hair up in fishtail braids or ponytails or whatever, looks like she could tear out ones throat and they'd thank her. It's a running gag that she's in finances, even if no one in the underbelly believes it.
Bruce = “Matches” Malone I mean, it's classic Matches (though most probably assume that Matches isn't his real name) who seems rather chill until someone breaks the rules. Gives off vibes that he doesn't usually get his own hands dirty but will do so to make a point, and enjoy doing it. He sometimes uses Matches to check in on places he can't as a shadowy cryptid, and it's not like the lower income areas would fully trust Brucie Wayne.
Barbara = Madison “Maddie” Malone Now let's be honest, Barbara enjoys messing with people, she enjoys knowing every little thing as Oracle, and she definitely does that as Maddie. The thing is, no one knows how she learns about things, other criminals search for a traitor, for a leak, for anything, and get nothing. Which is utterly terrifying. Because there has to be some sort of information network, there has to be. And somehow they're so good that they're indistinguishable to any others.
Dick = Micheal “Mikey” Malone Honestly Dick uses this chance to get into a bunch of fights just for fun. Flirts a bit more freely but doesn't really have an interest in actually getting with someone. Just has funs and is known for throwing his own parties that usually end in free-for-all brawls. He absolutely loves being able to have parties that are the opposite of galas he's usually dragged into.
Cass = Molly Malone She's quiet and graceful, but she takes it to unnerving levels as Molly. Looks slim but carries guns on her at all time to better differentiate between Cassandra Wayne, Black Bat, and Molly Malone. Everyone knows if you need a weapon, guns, meelee, whatever, she's the one you go to. Gotham help you if you cross her though.
Jason = Peter “Petey” Malone Where Molly Malone goes, everyone knows Petey will be there as well. Jason absolutely adores the time he gets to do so, it's his turn to be silent and dramatic. Everyone can recognize the jagged scar over his neck, they can recognize it from corpses the Bats have gotten their talons on. Honestly he's delighted in being able to be Cass' enforcer of sorts and just have a good fight. Even if he complains about how making his Malone mute makes it where he can't quote Shakespeare like he wants to.
Steph = “Mia” Malone Ah yes, the explosive Malone. The one who has more arson charges than Firefly. Or at least she would if she was caught, but the entire Underbelly knows it was her. Steph is living her best life being able to pull all sorts of pranks and crazy shit and takes several ideas from Harley. Honestly she probably smells like gasoline or smoke all the time, and definitely put glitter in her hair. Maybe even has red hair as a Malone as well.
Tim = Alvin “Al” Malone He still goes by Alvin Draper too, which results in half the underbelly thinking that Draper is his middle name. Honestly he's having the best time, everyone knows to come to him for forgeries and less than legal identities, which he loves to create. I mean just look at how many new identities he creates for himself alone. He enjoys this type of thing, and hey, it's so easy to keep track of whose identity is fake when you're the one who made them. Plus it also lets him do good for those on the run for good reasons, a way to make sure people are safe.
Duke = Dennis “Denny” Malone Everyone knows Denny was adopted, but y'know what, I bet they don't care. And you know Duke is utterly insane, like jump off a bridge to escape the cops and create the We are Robin gang insane. And he gets to play that up as Denny. He will put forth the most batshit ideas and actually pull them off. I bet he uses his future-sight to cheat at different games and pool tables and all sorts of things, but no one can ever prove it. Because there is no proof, and the other people playing just has to deal with it.
Damian = “Mini M” Malone The little baby of the family, who everyone knows the older Malones absolutely dote over. This is his chance to act like an actual child, just with a hint of art theft. Hey, it wasn't like they got it legally either, so it's free game, especially if they weren't taking proper care of the art or a pet. He's just pleased to get to have even more pets, and that Goliath his demon dragon-bat gets to go on walkies.
Jarro = Jadan “Lil J” Malone Now Jarro is delighted to have a third mech, and is even more delighted for people to believe Damian (or technically M jr) and him are twins. Gives off someone is going to die- of fun with Mini M, and honestly enjoys being able to use his natural telepathy to be a small horror movie child that knows too much. Like will stare up at someone with wide eyes covered in blood and the others in Gotham's underbelly still aren't sure if the blood was his or someone elses. (it was neither)
================================================
Honestly I might write a oneshot or something for the Cryptid Batfam focusing on just them as the Malones family.

Tim and Cass sibling headcanon:
Despite Cass being at least 2 years older than Tim people sometimes mistake them for fraternal twins. I headcanon Tim as half Japanese, Lady Shiva’s ethnicity is ambiguous, with Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Southeast Asian influences so Cass is half whatever she is, but I tend to headcanon Japanese for her as well.
Anyway, Tim and Cass are close and they look similar, the most notable difference being their eyes, Tim’s are crystal blue while Cass’s are dark brown. Yes their eyes are the most notable difference not their bodies. They are both fairly androgynous, and the way they dress casually only enhances that. Loose tops and leggings or tight jeans and converse being their go to. Not to mention they literally have the same hair cut.
They also were both heavily influenced by both Lady Shiva and Bruce. The way they move reflects that just enough for their body language to be noticeably more similar than any of their other siblings.
Tim and Cass totally wear each other’s suits so they can be seen together. Like Cass puts on the Red Robin suit and saves Tim Drake often enough that people never point at him and say ‘he’s only been seen with RR once that could have been a shapeshifter’
And Tim does the same for Cass to the point where Cass and Black Bat have a public friendship, they do these cute quick light hugs when they see each other and chat a little in sign. It’s a Thing. The internet loves it.

Bats usually keep an eye on large gatherings in Gotham, but in this case Bruce literally can't pay them enough to do their jobs.
---
In Gotham, large gatherings are always risky business. With half a dozen big name rogues with half a dozen screws loose, things can get out of hand FAST.
So yes, forgive Bruce if he likes having at least two bats or birds on the scene when people group together and make themselves easy targets.
His rag-tag group of children, adult or otherwise, usually agree with him. But in this case-
"I'm not going out of my way to help anti-gay protestors," Tim says before Bruce even let's himself think about which of his partners in anti crime he would like at his back. "I'm the one that green-lit the Wayne Enterprises gay agenda that they're protesting."
"That's... Fair."
And it was! Bruce was hardly going to force his bisexual son to save people that would tear him down if given half the chance. He'd demanded far too selflessness of Tim already.
It was just... No one else was volunteering either.
---
Dick, alerted by Tim about the group of anti-gay protestors planning their little event on Facebook, takes one look at Bruce approaching and shakes his head.
"I've heard what they said about my baby brother," he cautions before Bruce can say anything.
Tim, out and secure in his identity, doesn't care what any civilians have to say about him. Dick, deeply angry and protective, cares very much what slander people sling at his little brother.
Bruce, understanding that maybe his eldest was getting better about managing his anger, but deeply unwilling to test his resolve, nods and backs away.
---
Damian is his next choice, though he doesn't hold very high hopes for him either.
"Father, I will not be responsible for the safety of fools willingly endangering themselves," Damian says, reasonably and Bruce is glad to hear it. He has a whole speech about protecting civilians even if they act in defiance of their own safety. It's blown to pieces when Damian explains further. "I've already taken the liberty of inviting Jon and his paramour to heckle them."
"No metas in Gotham," Bruce says before his brain can catch up to his mouth. "This is already a tense situation and-"
"No metas in Gotham," Damian repeats, pitching his voice lower as he mocks his father. "What do you propose Duke is, Father?"
This is an argument he isn't willing to have. Not right now. He puts a pin in it and reaches out to Jon to politely request that he doesn't make an appearance at the protest. Jon concedes in exchange for his permission to come to Gotham's pride event next week. Bruce gives it under the stipulation that Jon and Jay let him give them a full primer on Gotham rogues and how to counter them.
---
Stephanie is somehow warned in advance and texts him before he can reach out to her.
"sorry not sorry, if doctors in Texas can choose to let people die then so can I. ask someone else to help w your homophobe problem"
Bruce wants to point out that is a gross simplification of the fraught political state of Texas. He also wants to point out that they are nowhere near Texas.
He wonders about the feasibility of sponsoring abortion access and trans healthcare in another state if only because it is GENUINELY funny when bigots with talk shows get into a tizzy over Brucie Wayne.
He lets the thought lie for the moment.
---
Duke hears him out, at least, before telling him that he's really sorry, B, but he's gonna be sick that day. It's all very sad, has he tried to talk to Jason?
---
Cass looks at him. He looks at her. They both know she won't be his backup.
---
He hates to say it, but Jason WAS his last choice in this situation. Not for lack of trust or faith in his abilities, but because-
"I'm asking Aunt Harley to have Poison Ivy start a pollen induced gay orgy," he says bluntly when Bruce asks if Jason would be busy on the day of the protest.
"At the-"
"At Wayne Enterprises, for the protest. Yes. Stay away if you value your heterosexuality, old man."
Bruce, remembering his college days and the types of things he's gotten up to in his own time, doesn't correct his son. Revealing that his father was intimately familiar with gay sex isn't a conversation Bruce ever wanted to have with Jason. Or anyone else.
Bruce, wisely, lets the police handle the protest.

So we all love slightly overprotective Big Brother Jason, but do you know what's also amazing?
More than slightly overprotective Big Brother Tim.
Like yeah, he knows that Damian is a capable fighter and has tried to kill him several times, but also baby? Is baby? Protect baby! Besides, what's a little attempted murder between siblings? Jason tried to kill Tim, and now they have movie nights every other Wednesday. It's fine.
When they have a patrol together Tim takes them out to get water ice as a treat once they're done. He makes sure to ask about Damian's art and how he's doing in his classes. He keeps an eye out for all of Damian's triggers and is ready to step in at the first sign of trouble. He keeps any and all contingency plans for his siblings under lock and key but keeps Damian's behind seven extra layers of protection.
One time some lady at a gala said "Damian's going to get a lot of attention when he's eighteen, if you know what I mean" and by the end of the night Tim had dug up every dirty secret on her and gave it to Jason and Babs to do with it what they would.
Damian acts like it's infantilizing and unnecessary, but they both know he apprentices the care and attention. It helps him feel like they've moved on from the rocky start of their relationship into being actual brothers.
Love it. Would Jason end up being jealous mildly put out that Tim’s beating him to overprotectivateing (no I’d didn’t just make that work up shush) Damian? Because that could also be hilarious.
Also I feel like Damian would do it right back to Tim in some way or another. Maybe while being as irritating as possible because 10-13 year olds are just Like That sometimes.
Okay so (now that this idea is committing nuclear fission in my brain) what if Jason sees Tim and Damian being overprotective of each other and they keep beating him to the (occasionally literal) punch, and so he goes, “why am I even here.”
He tries to turn his overprotective mother-henning tendencies towards someone else. Cass tells him no. Steph can’t stop laughing but does accept all good offerings. Dick is not-so-secretly thrilled. But that ruins it for Jason because eww Dick is just accepting this with heartfelt thank yous and hugs and hasn’t even tried to stab Jason or break into his safe house once.
And then Jason runs across this little kid that turns out to be a member of the justice league with no parental figure in sight and this is perfect.
Jason shows up to Gotham with Billy Batson in tow and it takes Tim and Damian all of four seconds to go protective big-brother on him. (“I’m older than you!” “Irrelevant.”)
Tim and Damian take Billy to a shooting range. Cue Jason complaining to a mildly amused and very entertained (yet unsympathetic) Steph. “That’s my thing. That is literally my thing.”

For Court of Owls! Batfam Au, how do the rest of the family fit in this au?
Kate Kane and Tim Drake are wealthy enough to be apart of it.
Stephanie,Cass and Duke, I'm not sure, but Barbara and Commissioner Gordon, Alfred (since he isn't mentioned I assume he disagreed and left) might be involved unless otherwise.
Damian might be a lovechild of two courts between League of Assasins, that feels he'd inherit his Dad's legacy but acts like the old court, maybe at first at least.
Tim Drake’s involvement was covered in a previous ask! As to Kate, I admit I know next to nothing about her so I’ll have to skip that for now >.>
But there’s no reason to believe the way the get introduced to the family is going to be wildly different than canon!
Alfred is still Bruce‘s loyal butler (I think I mentioned him tangentially once or twice) and knows Bruce is trying to do good. He‘s 100 percent got his back.
Steph meets Tim first after our little stalker establishes himself as the eyes and ears of the court. (Even Cobb is unnerved by how good the kid can blend in). She never becomes part of the Court or Robin (mostly because she wants nothing to do with the Owls) but she does accept the gear they provide her with. It‘s kind of a love-hate relationship between them all, but Bruce still includes her in the list of his children when anybody asks. Steph is very annoyed by this. (And also a little touched.)
Cass is sent to assassinate Bruce (without knowing he’s the Voice) and gets intercepted by a furious Cobb. She‘s still only a teenager at this point, something that makes Bruce stop Cobb from killing her and… well. (Cobb knows how this goes as soon as it comes to light the girl cannot even talk. He wonders if Talons can retire. He cannot deal with another traumatized child that needs babysitting. He deals with another traumtaized child that needs babysitting.)
That leaves Duke, whom I headcanon Bruce came across on accident while working on cleaning up the foster system. He‘s just another child right up until the moment that Bruce happens to quite literally run into him while he’s out alone in Gotham (having slipped away from the Talon once again). Duke notices Bruce is being followed by some shady looking people and helps him escape. And, well, “no good deed goes unpunished”, right? And the manor’s got a lot of spare rooms still. (Cobb would like to put himself in cryo and not come out until Bruce has managed to get a grip on his adoption problems.)
Damian is… tricky. There would be a very short window of time in this AU where him and Talia could have met that would result in Damian being conceived in a consensual way. I haven’t really made up my mind about this yet.
And Bruce is still working together with Jim to help Gotham. He’s still operating as “Batman”, after all. Just not usually in an armored suit. 🦇

What is the Brown family pre-Flashpoint characterization vs post-?
hoo boy. So, disclaimers, while I've read a LOT of comics, I have not in fact read all of the ones where a member of the Brown Family appears (mostly because I just don't have the heart to put myself through Batman and Robin Eternal, along with some of Dixon's notoriously sexist writing in his Robin run), but I think I've read enough to make a decently informative post on this. Let's go by characters.
Stephanie Brown.
Probably the one that most people noticed, Stephanie Brown in her pre-Flashpoint characterization is one that has (right up until a certain...event...) a lot of grit to her. While she's still the victim of Dixon's notorious attitudes towards women, she's still allowed to be competent, holding her own in a fight quite handily, especially in her own Batgirl run, where she's able to take on League of Assassin members without too much trouble at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her major, I would argue defining characteristic, is that she does not give up. Ever. Her dad tells her to quit. Tim Drake tells her to quit. Fucking Batman tells her to quit. Multiple times!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stephanie Brown does not give up. Ever. When the going gets tough, she shrugs, puts on her eggplant outfit, and kicks ass.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Post-Flashpoint? Stephanie is constantly made out to be unreliable, unable to handle herself, constantly needing other people to pull her out of trouble. She loses fights she simply wouldn't have before (although to be entirely fair, this is a problem literally every batfam member has from N52 onward but that's another post) But worse than that, post-Flashpoint Stephanie gives up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene is genuinely insulting- it's definitive proof that DC's writers from N52 onwards have never understood Stephanie Brown, and never plan to (yes, I know she does come back later, but the fact this happened at all is the point.) This is utterly antithetical to Stephanie Brown as a character, and spits in the face of everything she stands for.
Crystal Brown This is actually the main reason I decided to start writing sins of the father (working on chapter two in conjunction with this), because the treatment of Crystal Brown in Post-Flashpoint DC comics is just insulting- and a major disservice to Steph! Her relationship with her mom is essential to her arc. Crystal Brown starts out as a woman who's got a supervillain as a husband. She's struggling with him, with near-poverty, and with a drug addiction that seriously impedes her ability to be a good mom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But like daughter, she doesn't give up. In fact, Crystal Brown kicks Arthur Brown out of her life and picks herself up, manages to quit her habits, and becomes a well-respected nurse at Gotham City West Mercy Hospital. Her defining characteristic is that she loves her daughter, even if it took some time for her to get her act together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Post-Flashpoint Crystal Brown is not that. Hell, she's barely a character. When Steph calls her, desperate, afraid of her newly-learned-of criminal father, Crystal’s response is to lie to her daughter, and then call her husband and tell him Stephanie knows about his plan.
Tumblr media
Sure, she doesn't want him to kill her, but this is so wildly out of character for Crystal that this is basically an entirely different person. And it leaves Stephanie without a single parent who cares about her, since Bruce sure has hell hasn't stepped up in Rebirth. Steph doesn't have any positive role models in her life in Rebirth, leaving her bereft of really any consistent form of love and encouragement outside of maybe Cass, but even that relationship is a hollow shell of what it was previously.
Arthur Brown.
So Arthur’s the one who’s arguably changed the least, because abusive asshole is hard to get wrong, but he does feel like he’s lost all consistency in Rebirth. Before, he's a smug, arrogant asshole who doesn't give a damn about his family beyond how he can use them.
Tumblr media
In Batman Eternal he’s…well, fine, but in Batgirls he’s…nearly unrecognizable, even from his characterization in the previous issues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like seriously, what was going on here? Arthur's never given a single damn about Steph aside from literally using her as part of a plan to get rich. But anyway. TLDR; All three lost nuance, Steph used to be more competent and had an actual character arc, Crystal used to have an actual character and was an inspiring story of overcoming addiction, and Arthur used to feel like a consistent villain instead of a one-off whack job.

Blood and Hearts
Redhood x Heartrender!Reader(GN)
Redhood is being tortured. It was like all before. Joker. He seems powerless. Unable to fight due to his PTSD. You, his S/O saved him and earned yourself a spot in the Batfamily.
First time writing a fic so feedback will be appreciated
Heartrenders have the ability to manipulate the body. They can snatch the air from your lungs, slow your pulse until you fall into a coma, or even literally crush your heart—all if they can see their enemies
You sensed something was wrong. Jason hasn't returned. It was 2 am. Jason promised to be back by now. You rushed to call Babs.
Babs had told you that she has lost contact with Jason a few minutes before you called. And the last minute of the call she could hear the Joker. Batman and the others have tried to locate him but is unsuccesful. You loved Jay very much. You've been together for 3 years. He always is a man of his word. Even though you two were close, he never knew of your Grisha powers, Heartrending.
You put on your red kefta-like suit you kept hidden for so long. "It still fits like a glove" you muttered to yourself. Before going to find him. You held your shimmering scale necklace, an amplifier and a gift from Sankta Alina. Your mother and a Saint.
You were trained by some great grisha in your dimension. Notably the King and enrolled in a school for high-ranking Grisha. So you have learned to be agile yet perfectly accurate in all your movements.
Jumping roof to roof trying to find Jay yourself. After 15 minutes you gave up and called Dick. "Hey Dick, I know Jay is in trouble. Please let me help. I can be a good asset. Just meet me somewhere please." You said, you sounded determined yet worried. "Uh Y/N its dangerous, we're facing the Joker again. But the old bat agreed you can meet us atop the second tallest building in Gotham.
Once you arrived, you saw all the bats prepared. Robin's stern face, Nightwing's worried look and the girls talking with each other. Without Red, your Jay you felt weird again. You shaked that feelingwi off and sensed how worried Bruce was. Dick brought you to the bats and you were questioned about what you were wearing. "Did you become a vigilante too or something?" Dick asked, his grin is unmistakeable. You just smiled and said "You'll see, I have something that will assist us" You two decided to talk with the others for leads. After around 20 minutes you all decided you'd be going in partners checking 4 spots they had narrowed down. Bruce was reluctant to let you go but since Dick will be protecting you he finally allowed you to come along. Dick and you, Cass and Steph, Damian and Bruce, lastly Duke and Tim went your own ways soon after.
As Dick swung across buildings you leapt great distances. All the vehicles were used so you two were resorted to this. Along the way he asked you about what you meant with the suit and all. You finally opened up to being a Grisha Heartrender and Tailor and being from another universe entirely. You told him what you could do. After some more tlaking you finally arrived at the abandoned zoo. The smell of carcasses flooded your nose. With a swish of a hand you got rid of your ability to smell, offering to do the same for Nightwing.
Once you two were ready you walked around. After a few minuted passed you heard Jason's heavy panting and Joker's maniacal laugh. Nightwing will be flanking them behind them while you walking to them directly from a point where they both can see you clearly.
Raising your hands while muttering "saints, mom, help me" you moved your hands intricately yet quickly to give Joker a heart attack. While Joker was struggling you brought Redhood back to the present. You walked and talked to him while Nightwing holds the Joker's struggling body. You empowered Red and Nightwings body is a quick swish of your hands. Red got back to normal the moment Joker survived the heart attack. He wanted to ask you why you're there and all but you gave him a sharp look that said stay focused ask later. Red and Nightwing took turns attacking him. You threw them a nearby rope. You slowed the Joker's heartbeat putting him into a coma. Making it easier for Jay to carry him through the Night. But Joker was not an ordinary mortal. He some how managed to wake. Punching Red in the face. At this point you were angry. Your hands moved faster than ever gracefully dancing. You decided to use a harsher method of giving him a heartattack while squeezing his lungs. After Red and Nightwing got him tied up you put him into a deep coma with Redhood's punch and your powers.
Silence was all you all could hear. The other's landing breaked the silence. Batman hugged Redhood tightly. Red said "Wow Old man you actually missed me" as he took a step back. The bats looked at you and smiled or thanked you one way or another. They asked you to join them in certain missions. Jay especially was smiling, as he walked to you then lifted you up as he kissed you. You were relieved he's alive. But tomorrow you're sure you'd be given a lot of questions to answer to.

Sorry I'm taking over your blog ahhh but it's just so cool to be able to get such detailed answers that make so much sense and to be passionate about conversation again! This is something I've been sort of stuck on over the years while writing (especially because they won't let them become adults in a main continuity) - what sort of lives/jobs do you think Tim, Damian and Steph would have in the future, and what do you think Cass would end up doing? I don't see Jason really having a "normal" job but I'd be willing to hear thoughts on that too!
Nws! Getting an ask is the highlight of my day!!! <333
I've never thought of that!!
Tim would definitely be the CEO of something, maybe a tech company? He would develop his own software and market and become rich and build a company off it.
Damian would take over Wayne Enterprises kinda like how he takes over Batman. It's just his future and I don't think Tim's interested in WE anyway aside from having it to fund his projects currently.
Steph would own a martial arts gym. Of all the batkids, I feel like Steph and Duke are really the ones who are connected to Gotham. Tim is part of the elites, Damian is Bruce Wayne's son, and Jason was on the offside of community up until 13. Steph and Duke though, they've lived there their whole lives even after meeting Bruce, they're still connected. Stephanie literally made her own costume and went after Cluemaster. Putting these two together, I feel like Stephanie with her headstrong personality and normal Gothamite background would build a martial arts gym where she would teach kids in troubled homes how to defend themselves.
Cass would co-own the gym but she wouldn't get as involved as Stephanie. She knows how to hold back but I feel like a part of her would be worried about accidentally hurting them because she's too good - she's too trained at being an assassin. Therefore I feel like she would turn to art as a pastime and turning it into a freelancing type of job. It's be so cool if she became a graphic designer! It would also work perfectly since she has dyslexia and reading is tiring for her.
Jason I feel would eventually settle down enough to have a normal job but maybe I'm just hoping for too much lol. I don't believe he would be a mechanic or something because truth be told, I don't know if Jason even likes cars. He stole a tire off the batmobile out of necessity but does that mean he likes dealing with cars and engines? Who knows - maybe he does or maybe he doesn't. Oh I GOT IT! Jason would be a bounty hunter. He's still working for the good but he likes the rough edge of life. He loves hunting and setting up traps and pissing off bad guys. A bounty hunter would be the perfect job for him. He keeps doing what he likes and he would be good at it.

Saw you're posting the spoilers form this week's Batman so i'm guessing you've read it. My heart just broke reading it, i do wonder how the family is going to get out of this. Like this issue alone Bruce telling Jason he should kill him like my heart
I'm still really on the fence about what Gotham War is setting up, because I'm still so annoyed by how bad the arguments of the characters are, I'm annoyed by how it feels like cheap drama to break the Batfamily up again because they don't know how to do drama any other way, but also I can't lie, I don't find Bruce to be that out of character, because he's in a really bad place and the narrative isn't portraying him as morally correct. Everything with Jason really hurt, but Bruce can be cruel when his mental health is in the toilet (and this storyline is leaning hard on Bruce's mental illness being really, really bad right now) and I don't take it that he was serious at all, he had no intention of actually killing Jason, he was following up on Jason's argument--if it's okay that Selina's way got someone killed, if that death being an acceptable sacrifice was fine, then why wouldn't Jason's death be acceptable, to stop him from killing more people? And the thing is, Bruce doesn't believe that Roland Gardner's death was an acceptable loss, just as he doesn't believe that Jason's death would be acceptable, either. But Jason was deliberately goading him, Jason was being cruel when attacking him, and Bruce snapped at him, but I don't think for a second it was meant to be serious. It was an ugly fight between a father and a son who find themselves on the opposite sides of an argument that is dragging up a LOT of issues for them. For Bruce, I've made my case on this with the first Gotham War issue and I think it still holds true, that a lot of his biased reactions are coming from a place of feeling betrayed by his kids, the ones he took in because they were victims like him, ones who stood up and said, "I will never let this happen to anyone else." so hard that he couldn't stop them, could only have ever put a leash on them, and now suddenly they're saying, "I guess this can happen to some people." and that's a betrayal of the very foundation of why they do what they do, in his eyes. And that tracks for me with what he thinks when he's fighting the kids together:
Tumblr media
I think this storyline has been an interesting look at Bruce, where they're touching on his class issues, but also the heart of the reason he does anything and the biases that he brings to the table and that his mental illnesses are having an absolute party in his brain right now, like he's literally hallucinating and he slumps down against the wall and thinks about how shaky his control feels, how he feels isolated from his family, like this isn't Bruce being perfectly right and correct, this is him in the middle of a bad spiral and I think that's a potentially interesting storyline. Because he's full of so much doubt--it's TWO ISSUES into this series and in BOTH OF THEM, Bruce has had a major moment of falling apart and wondering what the hell he's doing, and while the storyline is billed as "Who's the one in the right?" here, I don't think that's what it's actually shaping up to be. This is a story about a traumatized character reacting very badly to having his mental health tanking and feeling like he's losing everything, only playing out on the stage that is Gotham. (I'm less enthused about the other characters' reasons, like I'm not sure I believe Tim or Dick or Barbara or Cass would go along with Selina's way, even if crime is down, those kids are stubborn and they didn't just agree with Bruce because they were scared of him, Bruce couldn't tell those kids shit about what to do, they had their own opinions, and while I buy that they'd think he's going too far, and I agree they would try to stop him here, because they're trying to talk him down, not make an enemy of him. So, I can see everything pretty okay in this issue, I'm just not sure enough thought will be given to ALL the characters that have a part to play in this story, beyond just Bruce.)

Jason's "brother" first appears in the digital-first chapter Truth & Justice #10 by Jeff Trammell, Rob Guillory, Jean-Francois Beaulieu, and Becca Carey. This story focuses on Red Hood's time as a homeless kid. But he isn't alone in this version of his past; one of the people who helps young Jason is Max Dawkins, an older kid who once took care of Jason like a brother. Together, the two survive their childhood. After Jason Todd is taken in by Batman, Jason leaves some money for Max to help him get off the streets. Max turns his life around, even graduating from college — but is unfortunately murdered by Scarecrow. Killing Max off was a huge mis-step on DC's part, and bringing him back could give Jason Todd's character new depth.
So is Max before Nu52 or in New52? Because I never heard of him so I think he is New52.
Almost every member of the Bat-Family still has a powerful connection to their past life. Dick has had old family members reappear, like his uncle and sister — plus he owns the circus he grew up in. Barbara Gordon still has her father, and Cass Cain, for better or worse, still has her mother and father. Damian Wayne has his father, mother, and grandfather. But Jason Todd has no connection to his past life at all. Both of Jason's mothers are dead, and Joker recently killed Jason's father, meaning Jason has no connection left to his pre-Batman childhood. Bringing Max back into continuity would give Jason at least one supporting cast member who knew him before his death as Robin and his revival as Red Hood, which is something Jason desperately needs.
Jason has Crime Alley! He grew up on the streets, he knows the people probably the best than anyone in the family. He has someone on his side, the people of Gotham themselves!
This has to be New52 because I swear Willis was dead around the time Catherine died. Or still in prison. Wait, Catherine dies by the Joker? At least here. I thought it was the drugs who did it.
(This was where I saw it said Joker killed Catherine and Willis.)
Every other Bat-Family member, including Batman, has both a connection to their past and a civilian life with supporting characters. Jason has neither; rarely is he shown in his civilian life, and he has no supporting cast that isn't a fellow superhero. There is no doubt that, out of all the Bat-Family members, Jason is the one who has struggled the most to find his footing outside the team. Every Batgirl and Robin has their own supporting cast, and Red Hood deserves the same. Bringing Max back could be the first step to fixing that.
Who did Tim have before dating Bernard? Unless I’m mistaken, which I might be, didn’t he push Ives, Bernard, Darla(?), and his other school friends away to focus on Robin? Not to mention it seems as if he had no one to hang out with when Jack made him give Robin up...
Oh, I thought it was Dick’s grandfather who reappeared? Or do they not count William as a family member? Plus, isn’t Dick’s sister his parents killers adopted daughter?
Wait, who do they consider Bruce having as his supporting cast? His kids who technically are also his partners? His best friends who are superheroes? Something that ScreenRant seems to hate for Jason? Damian literally has no friends, that they show, besides Jon who is now Tim’s age, since they got rid of Colin and his other friends, including Jon, are superheroes or villains also.
Tim has Bernard and maybe Ives. Duke has his mom, same with Steph, and that’s about it I believe.
I’m surprised they counted Cass’s parents, Ra’s, and Talia in with Damian’s support. Especially since they didn’t put that Ra’s and Talia are as bad as Cass’ s parents…now.
Actually, if you get down to it, the whole family has each other to rely on also. So Jason isn’t alone.
Every other Bat-Family member, including Batman, has both a connection to their past and a civilian life with supporting characters.
Every Batgirl and Robin has their own supporting cast, and Red Hood deserves the same.
ScreenRant really reiterated themselves here.
DC really changed everyones backstory and made them worse didn’t they?

Have you thought of doing an au where the batfamily are mythical birds
OH man, have I lol. Can’t believe I missed this ask.
Though in the initial idea Bruce was based off of Camazotz, which in Mesoamerica was associated with the night, death, and sacrifice. Like the name literally means death bat. Though he wasn’t straight up the death god, and the situation was more like a tulpa.
The power of belief interacted with all the curses in Gotham and all that into changing them from human into something well, other. The effects brought up to a hundred whenever they slipped into the Cave to do their patrols or whatever else.
But you asked about mythical birds, so let’s get to that before I start really rambling lol.
So Cass I had based off the Nachtkrapp, which was also known as the night raven. Though it was described as raven-like, and with no eyes, which caused death if you looked in them. It is also sometimes depicted as with holes in its wings that cause illness and other such things. Though what probably translates most to Gotham and how they see the whole batclan, is that in some depictions the Nachtkrapp will steal away children to never be seen again.
Quite fitting for a family where no one in Gotham knows how they get their robins, no?
Next let’s jump over to one of them, Tim. I based him off of the Devil Bird, also known as the Ulama, which was said to let out human-sounding screams at night, acting similar to the Banshee in the fact that it was said to predict a death. If you heard its scream, either you or a family-member would die.
Perhaps horrifying in any other place, but for Gotham? Sometimes it’s an utter relief.
Now, moving to Barbara, I wanted to keep the Oracle vibes, seeing as I still haven’t figured out on if they keep their names or have new ones lol. So for her? The Gamayun, usually depicted as a large bird with a woman’s head, and said to spread prophecies and divine messages. Like she is straight up depicted as knowing everything of all divine and mortals going ons. Also fun fact, the Gamayun is from Russian folklore but shares similarities to the sirens from Greek.
If she says something will happen, it will, be it a threat or a promise.
Jason, I based off the Itsumade from japanese mythology. It’s described as a bird-like being with a serpent’s tail, and a human face with the beak of a bird, and that it appears circling areas of great suffering. Specifically areas where there is suffering but nothing has been done to alleviate that pain, and was even thought to be created by the spirits of the dead and those still suffering. Its cry was said to resemble “until when”, which was thought to be asking how long will this suffering go unnoticed.
Once more, quite fitting for the protector of Crime Alley, who did manage to get attention on their plight in his own way.
Now Damian and Carrie I put together, as a double Robin. Though in this case I based them off the legendary norse birds Muninn and Huginn. A disguised Odin says (in the poetic poem Grímnismál) that while both ravens fly over all of midgard daily, he fears that one day they may not return, he fears more so for Munnin. There sadly isn’t a lot known of them alone, as in most depictions they are with Odin, either sitting on his shoulders, or not there at all.
But to Gotham? Oh they see these little birds flitter across Gotham every night, disappearing come dawn. And they remember the last time one of the birds didn’t return to the nest, and the violence that followed.
Helena, I decided on the Strix. While mostly depicted as owl-like, it is not outright said they are such, simply similar in description. Strix are blood-drinking and flesh eating creatures, and are described to perch upside down like a bat. Now in some cases they were said to be natural creatures, other times magical, and yet other times were said to be witches. Not unlike how black cats were once seen.
Fitting for the child of a bat and a cat.
While there are plenty of birds for Duke I eventually settled on the Oozlum Bird, which was said to fly in tighter and tighter circles until it straight up disappeared, which is fitting for someone who can manipulate light and shadow to disappear. Some myths says it flies backwards, where it does not know where it is going, but knows where it’s been. Other myths have it be able to fly straight up into the air while turning the world beneath it.
A little sillier, but still quite fitting for him, in a slightly ironic way in some cases.
Now Harper, I struggled a bit with, but once more settled on one. The Alicanto is a legendary bird from chilean mythology whose wings are said to shine with metallic colors, the color of the wings depicting which metal it has eaten. It is said that if one follows it, they will find veins of ores, but if they are not of a ‘good heart’ they will instead be guided off a cliff.
Now there aren’t many cliffs in Gotham, but there are plenty of buildings to dangle from.
I know Cullen and Alfred aren’t a part of the batclan, in the way of going out and patrolling. But don’t you think some sort of rumors spread of how they’re healed after each night? Would there not be rumors of hidden birds that live within their nest that could disperse illness and injury? For that, I give you, Caladrius, a snow-white bird (as in most depictions) that lived within a king’s home and took the sickness into itself before flying away, healing both itself and the one who was injured.
And Alfred has run out several times whenever Bruce was injured, taking a spare cowl. Who's to say he wasn’t spotted, a silver blur in the shadows of night?
Stephanie, now she was hard to do, far more than she should have been. However, I did find the Minokawa, a bird who devoured the moon, and should it eat the sun, would come down to do the same to all of men. At least according to legend. It was also described as having a dark metal beak, and lived in outer space.
A figure of the night, with hair like the cold dawn of a day that may one day not come to be, with a face void of forms or lights.
Now we finally get to Dick, the first of the children. Who I decided to use Pamola for, a legendary bird spirit in abenaki mythology who was also seen as a thunder god and guardian of a mountain, making it taboo to climb. And while there is no mountain in Gotham, there are plenty of skyscrapers that kiss the clouds and crackle with lightning every storm.
A horned bird who zealously guards its domain, calling down lightning into its claws to deal with intruders.
Now of course there are more batclan members (Lucas Fox, Kate Kane, Terry McGinnis, etc) but those were all the ones I’ve actually finished in figuring out what they’d be. Though I will admit I have been tempted to have Lucas (Batwing) be inspired a bit by stymphalian birds from greek mythology…

@withjust-a-bite  I can’t believe I forgot about Bruce, Alfred and Babs, so consider this a Part 2 to this post
I’ve got a lot more of these in the works, so to keep them all together, I’ll be tagging them #extended family au
Barbara:  So, let’s start off with Barbara.  As much as she’s a part of the batfam, she’s not one of the Bruce’s adoptees and doesn’t live at the manor.  Most likely, the two have never met, but they’ve heard stories about each other.
Alfred:  Alfred usually stays behind to hold down the fort when the family goes to Amity Park, so Sam only sees him when her family goes to Wayne Manor, but he always has her favorite vegan snacks on hand when she comes over.  And the sheer amount of sarcasm and sass that man can sling at Pam without her notice is something to behold; he’s cool.  Alfred has also been sneaking Bruce’s old MRC albums and paraphernalia into Sam’s room whenever the Manson’s come to visit.  He’s been trying to get it out of the manor and hoping she’ll take it, but she’s emo, not goth.  Still, it’s more effort than her parents put out, so she appreciates the gesture.
Bruce:  Sam doesn’t spend a lot of on-on-one time with the guy.  More often than not, one of his kids gets hurt and is sent to her house to “keep out of trouble.”  It doesn’t work.  Sam once caught Tim trying to climb out the window with a broken arm. or Pam ties up his attention whenever he comes over.  At least he never pushes her to eat meat or gives her grief about her wardrobe, so that’s a plus.  Still, she’s a 14-year-old girl raging against the machine, and Bruce is part of the machine, so she can never admit she likes her uncle.
And as a bonus, INTERACTIONS WITH IDA!!!
Dick:  Holds her yarn while she knits and takes over whatever conversation they have.  Ida’s fine just letting him talk and talk, the subject doesn’t matter.  She knows that sometimes you just need to vent.
Jason:  Ida’s found the best way to keep Jason from running is to get him into the library.  They usually have a nice back and forth in the together, and Ida can recommend a lot of books.  Jason also does a lot of venting toward Ida.
Tim:  Tim is banned from all forms of caffeine in the Manson estate, so as soon as Ida can get him to sit still for 30 minutes, he usually passes out.  Tim is the one who souped up Ida’s mobility scooter.
Cass:  Likes to hold Ida’s yarn while she knits and just listen to her voice.  Her tone and body language are super relaxing and comfortable.
Steph:  Loves to sit and listen to stories about Ida in her heydays.  This woman has stories!
Duke:  Thinks Ida is super sweet, but scary insightful.
Damian:  Has yet to willingly sit with Ida and thinks this whole ritual is ridiculous.  He does not need a babysitter!  One of his siblings or Sam has to literally pin him down with their legs while they sit.  Can usually be appeased with an art book or two to flip through.
Grandma Ida:  She has figured out everyone’s vigilante activities, especially Sam.  She’s the original rebel in the family; the rest aren’t about to sneak anything past her.  Oh, the stories she and Alfred could tell… Also, it’s never shown in the show, but I’m adding elevators to Wayne Manor and the Manson Estate so Ida can get around.  I don’t care what B*tch thinks, I’m making the place accessible.

Sception Reads Cass Cain #9
Tumblr media
Robin #73 story by Chuck Dixon, pencils by Steven Harris
Right up front, I'm not a big fan how Cass is depicted in this one. Like, it's not the complete train wreck that I felt it was on initial read, and I've gone back to tone down some of the excessive negativity in my initial write up. I still don't like how Harris draws Cass/Batgirl here, and I still think this issue is just a completely missed opportunity by Chuck Dixon to start building a relationship - working, family or otherwise - between Tim Drake and this new member of the Bat Clan. But it's not like, uniquely bad. Just frustrating.
Tumblr media
The basic set up here is that Tim's dad, who left with his family before No Mans Land, and who I don't think knows that Tim is Robin? Though I'm not sure of that? has realized that Tim has returned to Gotham somehow. Afraid for his son's safety, has made a big stink with the press.
The American news media, who were big supporters of the 'nobody enters nobody leaves' No Mans Land policy when the people trapped in Gotham were poors and minorities and criminals, are suddenly screaming about the inhumanity of the policy now that they have an upper class white father afraid for the safety of his upper class white child. Tim feels guilty about more public concern being expressed by the national media over just him than over literally every other human being trapped in Gotham put together, but Bruce sees an opportunity to leverage the media circus to move political landscape towards ending No Mans Land altogether.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile the government wants the story over as quickly as possible, so a one time exception is made to the NML policy for Tim and federal marshals meet with his dad to contact Tim and arrange a rescue by helicopter. I'm left wondering how there's still working cell reception almost a full year into No Man's Land - that's not just a Cinema Sins ding, the difficulty of getting communications and accurate reporting out of Gotham is a fundamental part of the set up, but whatever.
Tumblr media
There's not really any safe places to carry out a helicopter rescue, and Tim won't be able to fight off threats as Robin while being rescued as Tim Drake, so he'll need a chaperone. That's where our girl comes in, looking cool and spooky in the window.
Tumblr media
Once again we have Cass as the silent shadow / batman's enforcer, creepy and unknowable even to her allies. Cass is supposed to be like 16 in No Mans Land? And in her own stories she's very much a kid - giddy at the high of being a superhero, overconfident in her abilities, insecure in her place in the Bat Clan, desperate to please Batman. I don't object to Tim not knowing what to think of Cass to start, but It should not be difficult for a writer to find some level on which Tim can begin to relate to Cass, some way for them to begin to empathize with each other and move on from that starting point as strangers to start building a rapport between them.
Tumblr media
So the next day they head over to the agreed on site, and... what's going on with Cass's proportions here? Ok ok, there's clearly supposed to be some foreshortening going on in this panel, lets cut Harris some slack and move on...
Tumblr media
... no, no I'm sorry, there's no foreshortening here. Cass is 16. She's a kid. Who is that giant lady in the background?
Tumblr media
Like... this isn't great. Not great art happens, so I'm not going to harp on for an extended paragraph of pure complaints, and definitely didn't write and delete such a paragraph. It's not worth getting hung up over.
Tumblr media
A convenient breeze picks up to move Batgirl's cape for one pane. Because you gotta get that butt shot in there somehow, full length cape or no.
Tumblr media
So anyway Tim gets changed and the marshals show up in their helicopter, and as expected a nearby gang notices and attacks.
Tumblr media
Cass shows up to fight off the gang, and Tim stops the marshals from shooting while they might hit her. I mean, they said they were using rubber bullets, but are you really going to take their word for it.
Tumblr media
The helicopter lifts off from the park with Tim and Cass as more reinforcements for the gang arrive, but the Marshals say they're only authorized to take Tim out of Gotham. Not that Batgirl would have left anyway, but she drops back down into the city, and Tim gets to leave - and make rounds on the news talking about how the real heroes are the ones still in Gotham.
A fine enough wrap up to Tim's participation in No Mans Land, and it gets him out of Gotham so his book doesn't have to involve the darker Joker threatening babies / killing Gordon's wife note the crossover ends on.
As a Cass fan though, this is a super frustrating issue, because for all that Batgirl features in the story, it doesn't really feel like Cass is here at all. The giant lady in the Batgirl suit doesn't look like Cass, but it's not just the art, she's not there in the writing or either. This book was an opportunity to start building a connection between Cass, this all new member of the Bat Family, and Tim, one of the key existing members. There were pages enough that we could have had a nice quiet moment between them, maybe with her mask off so we could see her face, where they connect on some level, establish the beginnings of some sort of friendship or at least working relationship. Like, Cass could maybe use drawings or pantomime to ask if Tim were Bruce's son, or he could notice how hard she's working to impress Batman and feel some sympathy for how difficult that is. Something. Anything.
To the extent that what we all like most about the Bat Family is the found family aspect, we want to see these two starting to build some sort of sibling relationship. Instead there's just nothing at all. They don't even feel like acquaintances or co-workers here. And it's hard not to read that as an implicit statement from Dixon that as far as he's concerned Cass isn't a real member of the bat family at all.

What kind of Lanterns do you think the Batfam are? I would pin most of them as Green lanterns but I'm curious about what you think
Green Lanterns is a good fit for any of them, I agree. You don't work your way into fighting toe-to-toe with the superpowered types without some serious willpower. Bruce, Babs and Duke I think fit that ring best out of all of them, though.
Outside of that, Dick would also be the perfect fit as a Blue Lantern -- preferably with the awkward "holiest beings in the universe" caveat ignored like they did with Barry Allen, although I could absolutely see circumstances coming together to make him a literal martyr. I honestly think he's the only one in the family who 100% suits the role as a symbol of hope and inspiration, and anyone who says otherwise is frankly just lying, to either themselves or to you.
Jason as a Red Lantern is kind of an obvious cliche but it really does suit him, given how much his struggle with anger issues has played into his character over the years. But I could also see him as a very effective Yellow Lantern, as he's probably the protoge who most often makes use of the "Put fear into the hearts of criminals" side of their arsenal.
Likewise, Cass would make a very talented Yellow Lantern, as she can be terrifying... but it would make her miserable, she'd absolutely hate it. If we ignore the What the Fuck is Your Problem Geoff Johns aspects of the Indigo Tribe, she'd be much happier and a much better fit drawing on compassion with them.
Ditto Tim, who I personally would peg for compassion before willpower if, again, the Indigo Tribe wasn't weird for no reason. (Seriously Johns, did you really need to add a mind control/brainwashing aspect to both the love and the compassion corps??) You could also make a decent case for him falling in with the Star Sapphires, especially a lot of them are specifically motivated by lost love and if a ring happened to be looking, say, around the time he'd lost a half-dozen loved ones in rapid succession and was desperately trying to clone Kon back to life... it could work.
Finally, and this is going to be controversial, but while Damian is ultimately another of the ones who favors Green over all the rest, I think he'd be at real risk, in his darkest moments, of falling victim to the Orange Lantern Corps. Because while he can be short-tempered, anger isn't really what drives him. Pride is, and jealousy, and the iron-hard belief that certain things are his by right. It's not enough for him to be a Robin, he has to be the Robin. It's not enough for Bruce to be Damian's father, he has to be only Damian's father, no adoptions allowed. Gotham and Robin and being a Bat all only matter to him because, in his mind, they're his legacy. Even the way he loves can be greedy -- the way he collects pet after after pet after pet just because he wants them, the way he needs Dick to reassure that he'll always be his Batman, and on, and on.
You get my point. It'd definitely be a fall to the dark side for Damian and, like I said, I think he's ultimately a Green at heart, but the potential is there.
