Scream for Me | Halloween Headcanons for Scream Killers

description: what do killers get up to during the spookiest time of the year? well spend time with their s/o's ofc.

a/n: part 1 in my halloween double feature project! i've been meaning to write for scream for agesss so hopefully i'll do that more now that i've actually taken a stab at it (you see what i did there). anyways these are just my personal preferences so if you want a specific killer or scream character that isn't in here you can request something cause my requests are currently open! hope you enjoy <3 and have a safe halloween!

STU MACHER:

You are obviously going to some type of Halloween party (maybe even hosting one??).

You spend the night cradled in Stu’s arms as horror movies play in the background and beer flows almost like it’s falling from the sky.

You had decided to do a couple’s costume that year. So Stu obviously chose Jack The Ripper and you went as one of his victims.

He had convinced you it would be sexy.

So you lay splayed on the couch in a corset and long flowy skirt with fake blood on your neck while Stu wore a flowy cotton shirt splattered with fake blood and tight pants.

It may not be totally period accurate but you guys looked hot.

Throughout the party you and Stu could barely keep your hands off each other, something that made the rest of your friend group groan.

The tension finally became irresistible when Stu did that particular thing with his tongue which had you pulling him quickly away from the couch and up to one of the unoccupied rooms.

You and Billy always went all out for Halloween - ever since you were kids.

Childhood best friends to lovers. Stu always teased you for being too tropey.

But you loved each other. Even when Billy started to pull away after his mother left his father.

That Halloween you knew you had to do something special, just to try and cheer him up.

Your plan started with watching a few horror movies before going over to Stu’s for the customary Halloween party.

You had decided to go as Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling, since you were both obsessed with the movie ever since you had sneaked into a showing when it first came out.

It was just the right level of insane and scary.

Your plan came to fruition during the middle of the party, when you swiftly pulled Billy away from your little group of friends and towards one of the bedrooms.

You may or may not have suggested an idea to spice up the bedroom - with some role play.

And well… let’s say that Stu had to push the volume of the music up so people wouldn’t hear the screams of pleasure coming from upstairs.

MICKEY ALTIERI:

You were both movie fanatics, which is actually how you two met - through the film studies class at Windsor College.

You had become fast friends and when October had rolled around you had spent nearly every day watching a horror movie in either your dorm or his.

He also liked to film you, he always teased you that you were his muse whenever he pulled out the movie camera just to capture your laughing face.

On Halloween night is when things actually changed between the two of you.

You had gone as one of your favorite characters from Pulp Fiction, Mia Wallace and Mickey was dressed up as Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks.

You had met up at one of the many frat parties that the campus hosted but had ended up leaving because even if insanity was reining on a night like this, having sweaty guys crowd in around you wasn’t your vision for a good Halloween.

So you had settled in on your bed since your roommate was busy making out with someone on your couch and put on the newest episode of X-Files.

However, instead of actually watching the tv show the two of you got into some weirdly deep conversation about aliens that definitely made you sound high on something.

That was when Mickey kissed you, before he pulled away quickly - blushing intensely that made you sort of glad that he had made the move you had been thinking about doing the whole length of the conversation.

You pulled him by the collar and kissed him deeply, leaving him slightly stunned before he relaxed in your hold and pulled away a few minutes later.

After confessing the fact that he had literally been in love with you since he met you, you basically pounced on him and the rest of the night was spent with Scully and Mulder in the background as you two kissed.

JILL ROBERTS:

Jill was definitely one of those people who didn’t really love Halloween, sure she loved watching horror movies and putting on a cute outfit but that was it.

So it basically took all of your persuasive ability to get her to come out with you, even if it was just for a walk to see all the decorated houses.

Jill pretended not to enjoy seeing all of the incredible decorations and the fall leaves but you caught her smiling and watching you with sparks in her eyes a few times.

Since she wasn’t all that big on Halloween you both wore pretty understated costumes.

You went as the moon - covered in all silver and glitter placed strategically on your face.

Jill went as the sun because let’s face it, she’s literally the sun in her day to day life.

After completing your autumn walk, you grabbed two hot chocolates from one of the coffee vendors at the town center before you both walked back to Jill’s place.

You spent the night watching some random tv shows and making out.

Even if you didn’t really do anything Halloween-related it ended up being one of the best nights you had ever had with your girlfriend.

AMBER FREEMAN:

STAB MARATHONNN

Tara had tried to drag you to one of the many Halloween parties that were happening that year but you knew you had to be around for your girlfriend’s yearly tradition - especially since it was the first year you had been officially dating.

You had gotten a bunch of snacks that you both loved and dressed up as your favorite characters from the franchise.

Amber obviously went as Ghostface.

You sat cuddled up on the couch right after getting to her house when school finished and watched each Stab movie, one after another.

Amber spent a lot of time explaining certain parts of the movie or added fun facts from the actual massacre.

Most of the time you couldn’t pay attention to what was going on in the movie but it was so worth it to hear Amber rave about random details.

You thought you were more than lucky to be able to have her as your girlfriend.

Obviously you only watched up until Stab 7.

DO NOT mention Stab 8 around Amber - you had learnt that the hard way.

The date night ended with you both having eaten all the snacks and slightly over exhausted.

But that didn’t stop you from kissing the life out of your girlfriend and having some definitely not PG-13 fun.

The mask was particularly attractive, okay?

QUINN BAILEY:

Being with Quinn meant that you had to live with constantly being surprised by her.

For Halloween you had decided that you would hit a few frat parties before going to an escape room (which was her suggestion surprisingly enough).

So you rocked up to the escape room place in your Harley Quinn (you) and Poison Ivy (Quinn) costumes and were led by a member of the staff towards one of the many rooms.

Since Quinn had picked everything out, you didn’t know what to expect.

You two ended up doing a noir version of an escape room, with dramatic music and every aspect in the room was bathed in black and white.

Even with being slightly tipsy (from pregaming vodka and the parties) and horny, you somehow made it successfully through the maze of rooms… with a lot of intermissions for fumbling in dark corners.

All Hallow’s Eve concluded with you carrying your escape room certificate back to Quinn’s apartment where you probably kept Tara and Sam up for the rest of the night.

ETHAN LANDRY:

The first time that you met Ethan was on Halloween night, even if the day fell on a weekday there were still parties raging in and around Blackmore.

Of course you had seen him around campus because you knew Chad from the random times he had asked you to tutor him in the mandatory chemistry course you both had to take but you never actually got to talk to him.

Decked out in your Carrie costume you were drinking cherry schnapps (not wanting to get too drunk) in one of the many corners that the frat house had.

Your friends were either busy dancing or were flirting incredibly badly since they were drinking wayyy more than you were.

You had been so focused on the red liquid in your cup that you didn’t realize that someone had joined you until you nearly jumped at the sight of a rather cute boy in a cardboard knight costume.

Ethan had stuttered out that this was a dare and that he was sorry to interrupt your night but you only laughed and stayed talking to him for basically the remainder of the party.

You were even able to crack his shy facade and get him to dance with you in the corner when your respective favorite songs came on.

Halloween night ended with a promise for more and a phone number after you gave him a soft kiss, tinged with cherry.

hehe those were fun to write - i'll definitely be doing more in the future.

Hi! I love your Druid!Jack au. Can you tell us more about it please? Also I would love to see more of the Hiccup of this Au. How different is he from the canon Hiccup?

AHADFHAHKDA thank you I love this question.

I have lots of ideas for this AU, and a lot of it is still kinda in the draft stage so I really only want to share the stuff that is more or less fact (in this AU). As far as Jack, the basics about him is that he is not a viking, or from Berk originally. He's from a neighboring island close to Berk, and his village was attacked by a group of "vikings" when he was a child. Stoick had heard of the attack, and being it was a territory close to Berk, took a group to investigate to try and determine who this group was and what they wanted. The concern was that this group was advancing on territory and would be attacking Berk next, but upon investigation, their motives were unclear, as they didn't seem to take anything of value, and it appeared as if they just wanted to level the village and kill the residents. (huehue mystery) Jack is one of the survivors they pull from the rubble, he's about 8 years old at this time. He develops a resentment for vikings because he confuses the two groups, and doesn't trust the people of Berk. Even as he grows up in Berk, he always holds some level of resentment towards vikings in general (because he believes that vikings had killed his family and destroyed his village), and deliberately does not call or consider himself a viking.

Part of this resentment is also fed by Berk's bad relationship with dragons at the time he lives there as a child.

Jack and Hiccup meet when Stoick brings Jack back to Berk, and they're both around 8-10 years old. Hiccup's first impression of Jack is that he's surely a wildling or something feral. At first, Jack is taken in by Astrid's family, and this results in him and Astrid actually forming a strong, sibling-like bond later on. However as Jack grows, he becomes more and more independent, and grows up just as this kid that sleeps in the Great Hall, is fed by various families and is just kind of like a stray, and doesn't stay in one place for long. This is entirely his own decision, as he felt staying with one family was too confining and he deliberately did not want to "become a viking".

Jack finds an order of druids, and decides to leave Berk and join them around the age of 13-14. This is set right before the events of the first movie. He visits Astrid when he can, and when he comes back, Hiccup has changed the village into accepting dragons, and their relationship starts to develop more. Also, Jack's view on vikings positively improves, because of Hiccup specifically.

As for Hiccup's differences, he really hasn't changed all that much. The events of the first and second movie still play out (aside from his relationship with Astrid), because its essential to his character development. His relationship with Jack started when they were around 15, and I want to say they get married towards the end of the second movie, or shortly after, so they're about 20-21. With Jack being a druid, the order he's part of requires him to be away for months at a time, mainly in the winter. This puts a strain on the relationship for both of them, and Hiccup is always kind of dealing with Jack being the free spirit he is, while Hiccup wants that freedom but is chief of Berk. On the flip side, Jack wants his freedom but also wants Hiccup. He struggles to find his place between both worlds, and still feels like an outsider a lot of the time in Berk, despite being married to the chief.

That's basically the setup for the AU, and like I said before I have tons of ideas for the current timeline, but that's still in progress XD Thank you for your questions! <3 Here's some extra WIP sketches for this AU too~ (NEHEHEHE ANGST)

about me: a writeblr re-re-re-introduction

Hello! My old pinned post is officially over a year old and makes me cringe whenever I'm on my blog, so it's time to freshen things up again!

I'm Teri, I'm smack dab in the middle of my 20s and figuring out life. My writing is pretty exclusively original stuff, a lot of novels and a lot of fantasy, but I play around with various genres in short stories. Sort of a jack-of-all-trades in regards to hobbies - aside from writing, there's anything from baking to drawing with my ancient art tablet to cross-stitch to playing music to rambling around the patch of woods near my house to watching long-form D&D let's plays.

my goals

I recognize that every time I post something like this, it's with the intention of finally becoming as active on writeblr as I was during the pandemic. I also recognize I've never quite managed that.

So here are some more general goals to get me through 2024:

Finish my 2nd draft of Beyond Alder Creek

Write as cringey and brutally honest as I never allowed myself to as a teenager.

Speaking of, a large reading/writing goal of mine is to go back through every NaNo draft I've ever written (I've participated since 2011). So aside from just reading that and likely turning it into a whole spectacle on here for people's amusement, generally just survive reading through the writing from 8th grade. Stay tuned for more on that in the coming weeks lol

Finally, I have a general goal every year of reaching 100K words, between writing and editing and the like, but I'd happily be a little looser with that goal if it meant getting through others.

And now, without further ado:

Before I get specifically into WIPs, a general overview of the kind of writing you can expect from me:

As I said, I'm a fantasy nerd. I love worldbuilding, both on a large scale (nations and cultures and political relationships) and a small scale (a magic shop in an otherwise contemporary setting).

There's not a lot of romance in my writing, but there Are a lot of transformational relationships and codependency. Friendships, siblings, guardians, general ride-or-dies.

Thought experiments. I've been trying to catch and indulge more in my 'wait, what if?' ideas. Sometimes, that's fun little snippets of silly ideas, sometimes it's a majorly emotionally heavy scene for a story I'll never write. Sometimes, it's coming up with ideas to 'combine genres'. It's all about expanding the range.

I think that about covers everything! As always, I can't make any promises about how the year will wind up and where it takes us. But I will say, I've actually been writing recently, and yk I'm just gonna ride that high.

I have degrees in psychology and music!

I've lived across three continents, but currently live in upstate New York for whatever reason lol

The animals I've ridden on the back of include: horse, pony, elephant, and ostrich. The horse was my least favorite. By far.

I got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a couple months after Covid landed stateside (in May 2020) and am Always ready to talk someone's ear off about it.

The first story I ever wrote was on PowerPoint and was about war breaking out between humans and aliens that had taken refuge on Earth after their planet was destroyed. I was 8. There was a Lot of Clipart involved.

I've never been published, but I once secretly planned out, wrote, edited, and self-printed a couple copies of a novel about my best friends and our college apartment. They received it for Christmas last year and loved it (or at least were kind enough to tell me they did)!

ok so. lost shipping. this is mainly just going to focus on the quadrangle (jack, kate, sawyer, & juliet). the thing is, i don't hate a love triangle polygon. i think it can lead to interesting character dynamics. but lost somehow missed the entire point of a love polygon, which is choice.

i personally believe that a person can be in love with more than one person, at the same time or at different times, whether that's in a polyamorous way or in a "i'm monogamous, but i just haven't decided which of these people i want to be with" way. i’m going to ignore the polyamorous way for now, because in lost canon that's never mentioned as a possibility, so it's implied that all the characters are seeking monogamous romantic relationships.

so, it's pretty clearly shown to us that kate loves both jack and sawyer and that sawyer loves both kate and juliet, at some point throughout the series. (i've seen people disagree with this, but i'm taking the character's words and actions as they are presented, so if you disagree, i don't know what to tell you.) the writers lean very heavily into kate's "choice" specifically. the concept that she could simply be interested in/dating/whatever two people at once when she hasn't committed or promised anything to either one of them being seen a problem is an entire other rant's worth of nonsense, but if we just take it as the show presents it to us, she has to choose between jack and sawyer. the problem is, she is never actually given a choice. three seasons worth of build up is never paid off because... sawyer jumps out of the chopper. and in being separated from kate, he is never given a real choice either, because by the time he is in the position to make that choice, one of the "options" is gone.

now, one could argue that sawyer made the choice not to be with kate by jumping out of the chopper, or that kate made the choice not to be with sawyer by not following him, but neither one of them knew that those decisions would result in them being separated for three years. so yes, kate ends up with jack because sawyer is no longer an option, and we never get to see what her decision-making process would've looked like had they both been there long enough for her to make that choice. and sawyer ends up with juliet in the same way. we never get to see what he would've done had kate still been around as he was falling more in love with juliet.

the entire interesting part of this entire situation was taken away because the choice was made for them by their circumstances. the show leans into the idea that whatever happens would always have happened, and the universe "course corrects," so maybe these pairings always would've happened, but the fact that we don't get to see a reason why they happen other than "the other person i was considering is now completely inaccessible to me" is so incredibly anticlimactic and disappointing. not to mention (and perhaps this is possibly partly a result of the strike shortening season 4), we barely get to see the actual relationships play out. we have 3 seasons of jack and kate's dynamic to work with, at least, but sawyer and juliet literally get "so we started to get along, then we were in love, the end." there is such little payoff.

and maybe that's part of why people in the lost fandom still to this day get incredibly defensive about their favorite pairings, because they as fans have created more of those couples’ stories than the writers of the show did. so, there are plenty of reasons people like different combinations of these four characters together, whether it's "these two have the most interesting bond to me," "these two are the characters i like the most as individuals so i want to see them together," "i like the chemistry between the actors who play these two the most," "these two are the hottest to me," or any number of other things. but it's never because we see a character make a fully-informed free choice.

and this isn't the only case of the writers doing this. we see potential relationships between jack and ana lucia, as well as sawyer and ana lucia, but she dies before either of them can ever fully decide if that's something they want to pursue. shannon dies before sayid is ever faced with a decision between her and nadia. and of course, juliet and jack die before any potential further quadrangle situations could be explored (not that they would've, given that sawyer and juliet are in a committed, presumably monogamous relationship at that point, but by the point of the finale, there's no room for the possibility at all.)

and again, this is another rant all on it's own, but we end this show, which was called time and time again an ensemble show, with an afterlife that is completely from jack's point of view. we see every character paired up with the person that jack saw them with during his lifetime, with no regard for other potential important relationships in their lives. and i get it, obviously. it would make no sense for the characters who lived beyond the finale to suddenly have other significant others, or to have more established relationships with each other, when we never see any of that play out. but it just feels reductive to only see them reunite in the circumstances that existed at the time of jack's death. but like i said, that's another issue altogether.

tl;dr the lost writers did a really bad job with their romantic relationships and everyone’s favorite ships are good and correct and we should all be nice to each other and love each other forever <3

I knew watching it again would probably result in some different perspectives from when I watched as a kid, but I remembered the film really well already and wasn’t expecting anything particularly ORV-related to suddenly hit me out of the blue, but like. Right at the end. RIGHT at the end.

Sing-Shong (or Han Sooyoung and KimCom, if you’d rather - or maybe both!) really did put so much thought into everything that got included, didn’t they?

You could say that ORV itself is exactly the same to them as this story was to the Rose who shared her story - Jack’s story.

I guess the idea is that, without ORV, we would never have known about Kim Dokja at all, because nobody would have remembered him. Maybe without those specific people surviving, there would not be any other record of him at all. Maybe that is part of the change between what may have ‘actually’ happened and what we read. Maybe he really, truly is ‘just some guy’ trying to survive like Jack Dawson, but nobody even knew he was a part of their story in the first place? What we read is a story saying ‘he was there, here is evidence of him being there’, but maybe he was just like Jack, there unplanned and undocumented, even in the <Star Stream> itself.

And they are still there, telling every world line outside of their own: He was here too. We want to find him. As the only ones who know he was there - maybe without any statue, any documented heroism. Just like everyone in the background of the film, saving each other, dying together, trying to survive.

And a promise, of course, to never let go. Not of a hand, but of a promise: A promise to survive, to live to an old age, and die in a warm bed.

I think a young Kim Dokja would appreciate the kind of message that provided, even in film form. Or at least, it’s one Han Sooyoung (or Sing-Shong, if you’d rather) would consider would want to convey to her readers.

Maybe they don’t even have a picture of him either. Maybe the only record of him exists within their memories. And that was the only source they had with which to try and recreate the ‘him’ that they knew, whilst knowing that, as with the film Titanic, the story would out of necessity become somewhat dramatised to sell the story as plausible or to make it popular enough to reach him.

Anyways, this quote (from the movie transcript - couldn’t find screenshots to do it justice) was what really hit me the most as being relevant to his story, too. Since they were there too, in the theatre dungeon, on the Titanic. It being a fictional rendition of a historical event makes it even more relevant too, and even as a kid I wondered - how can everyone be so okay watching these people die so horribly? But it’s because it’s fiction, it’s fiction. But, in this case, was it? How much of it?

Interpretations of fiction could still be close to reality, in universes where these things did happen, in their reality. As history. So are the things we read, watch, play all the same, in the end? Artists’ renditions, dramatised documentaries, or similar? Fiction, yet also reality.

Like ORV. Fiction, yet reality. Always both and the same.

And they always say ‘it feels like a dream’, too. What do dreams count as? Fiction, or reality? The memories stay in your head from them too. Does that mean they are or are not real?

Just some guy dreaming of the helping his friends through the apocalypse, who came out of nowhere just like Jack Dawson on that ship, walking the fine line between fiction and reality that never had any distinction to him in the first place. It’s always been both, for him, with his story.

Anyways I am crying right now so feel free to cry with me! We have many tears with all these stories and histories, I think.

Crafting With The Dorms Pt 1.

I'm being intentional vague with what crafting implies, because I am the dumbass who does the majority of these things.

This is also polyam!Reader but it's such a small part that it's hard to notice. Sorry for a two parter but I'm doing a lot rn ifbshfkenn

Do you think any of these idiots can work a glue gun?

That alone would cause enough chaos in the dorm that Riddle would attempt to collar everyone to calm the situation down. Which would fail miserably, of course, because glue guns obey no laws of magic or man.

Trey at least has the patience to figure out how to do things the right way. Thankfully you have him for whatever task you decide to undertake.

The others aren't nearly as... together.

It's best to keep your projects with this group simple. No special tools, no complicated stitches or knots, ext.

They might be insulted at first but by the time you've all finished your little concrete stepping stones, with everyone covered in the mix and Ace sporting a nasty cut to his thumb after Deuce handed him a sharp mosaic piece, there's an understanding.

Cater takes a video of you guys making it for his socials and tbh most of the comments are laughing at Riddle's red face as he struggles to place a decoration.

Ace and Deuce are going to try and compete to see who has a better stepping stone. They both lose.

(^Ace's cracks because takes it out the minute he thinks it's hardened. Deuce's never sets properly because he added too much water. Yes they are disappointed.)

Cater uses so many decorations that you almost fear the entire top may crack if it's stepped on.

Trey and Riddle are doing a theme together to match the garden. They'd love for you to join them but don't be too hurt if Riddle doesn't approve of your piece in the end.

The standards for the Heartslabyul dorm are incredibly high.

(This doesn't mean he gives it back. Riddle is romantic!! He'd be the type to use one of those little platestands to display your piece if allowed.)

In the end you get at least four stepping stones from this, and a mess that looks like you made twenty.

Savanaclaw

Ruggie is good at some crafts and better at others. There's a few that he can't catch onto, but that's pretty much true with anyone.

Of course this doesn't mean he likes every activity avaliable. It just means he isn't as nearly as lost when you suggest doing something.

Leona and Jack on the other hand...

Jack tries. Really, he does. Anything you throw at him he'll attempt to tackle, and maybe that's the problem.

It's difficult for him to let loose, which is what being creative is all about. If you put instructions for how to make make something in front of him he'll do it by the book every single time.

Which is probably better then Leona, who doesn't do it at all.

The best craft for this group is probably going to be something that's more building based.

Kinda like one of those DIY workshops at hardwear stores for kids.

Perhaps building a cornhole game would be fun.

(^IDK IM FROM THE MIDWEST THIS IS WHAT WE DO. I don't know anything else! What other sport can you build?!?!)

They actually might be better at this then other things. Mostly because the novelty of playing the game after they finished.

Jack seems like he'd be a perfectionist in regards to specific measurements for everything, but sometimes he goes overboard and overcorrects his mistakes. Usually he's going to find a way to cover it up, but if not, you can always suggest blaming it on Leona.

Leona doesn't care.

(In the scenario that you do, in fact, build a corn hole game, throw the corn sacks at Leona and see what happens).

Paint by numbers seem to be something Jade and Azul might do, but Floyd will not abide by the rules.

You'll end up with three matching pictures and one nightmarish terror.

He only does it because it makes Azul (and possibly you too) cringe.

didn't the connections just want Evie as a weapon/ tool to end all wars (I need to check that file in 7) and Miranda wanted a replacement for Eva hence why she decided to dig up her dead daughter and give them tissue samples (high key even if Miranda brought Eva back the poor kid would never ever be good enough Miranda has had 100 odd years of putting the child on a pedestal)

also Alan Droney (Director* douche who transported Evie with Mia... again the connections sent two 2 people to transport Evie without the treatments needed to keep her stable will that ever not be a problem for me and something i don't see other people mentioning at all?) was posing as a father figure to Evie who rejected her and Evie wanted Ethan to be daddy instead of Jack when he turned up which made Jack mad and Ethan has no idea what he's on about and of course rejects her as well

*in game they call him that and Mia is a caretaker

basically I hope Evie finds people in the conciousness of mold who know everything about her whilst not being directly affected by her violence and help her out (mold therapy group is a idea near and dear to my heart)

As far as the Connections go--tl;dr i went and did some research which is why this took a bit to answer, but yeah, it looks like the Connections DID always plan to use Evie... but Miranda didn't just provide mold, she also provided DNA of her daughter for use in Evie's creation. This, combined with the fact that rose is a 'perfect Eveline' and Eveline's name being so close to Miranda's daughter (Eva) are contet clues that Miranda wanted Eveline made so she could do what she tried with rose. Meaning Eveline's original 'true' purpose was to become Miranda's daughter, but she was 'imperfect'. Because of the emphasis on rose being 'perfect' and Eveline being 'imperfect', I think you make a great point about how ultimately, Eva probably wouldn't have been good enough. None of the 4 Lords were, despite all their power, Miranda still made them feel like they weren't enough to please her.

(side note: this whole 'Miranda was working with Connections!!!' feels very like it was decided after the fact/making it up as they go along. But this interpretation makes it make more sense, at least to me.)

iirc (and someone can feel free to correct me), Mia and her partner were posing as Mia's parents specifically to avoid arousing suspicion when they were transporting her. They weren't intended to be actual parental figures to her. But she was a heavily sheltered child, likely lonely, so she wasn't going to understand it was fake.

We know Evie latched onto Mia as a mother figure, I don't know if she latched onto the guy as a father figure, though. She killed that guy because he essentially rejected her, yeah. If she did see him as a father figure, it was not for very long and it was not to the extent she latched onto Mia (which is intentional--you're not really supposed to care about that guy, so Evie likely didn't either). She also let Ethan 'defy' her much longer than she did Alan.

Evie did use Mia to lure Ethan, though. re7 is explicit about that, bc when Mia is lucid, she tells Ethan she didn't send him the video--meaning Evie was controlling her. Evie wanted Ethan as a father figure because her 'mom' should be married to her 'dad'. I don't think she ever saw Jack as a father figure, because he had adult children her 'mother's age, and because those children (Lucas and Zoe) would likely have been rivals for his love. It's easier for her to play house with Mithan as her parents, and the Bakers as extended family.

Infected!Jack was jealous, yeah, because Ethan was essentially going to replace him as the male head of the family, but Infected!Jack is not the real Jack. Those feelings and actions came from the false family hierarchy that Eveline set up, in which she is both the head of the family and the treasured only grand-child (which is why her rapid aging works as such a good twist; a lot of southern families have an old matriarch like that, and many of them also have a darling granddaughter who is adored).

tbh I don't really care what happens to Evie in the mold matrix, it's just upsetting to me that people call a child irredeemable and deserving of death. Like... they can't see Eveline as the tragedy she is. But Lady D and Heisenberg get praised to high heaven.

mitsuki's role in weekend lesson is so interesting, because... there's no challenge for him? why doesn't the mean casting director in neji want to challenge him?

(disclaimer that I'm on suzu's route and have only done kisa's route before this)

like, okay, so neji finds out that amber isn't participating in univeil's summer performance. his strategy would be something like a mix of fall and winter: aim to win, but also use the opportunity to train your new actors. since there isn't a chui to beat in this scenario, he and fumi can relax and risk a bit of the performance to train the new guys. alright, makes sense, cool cool.

so neji writes the characters and assigns the roles, right. the third years have some inner conflicts to overcome, and the first years have some growing to do. we have fumi playing the talented genius who quit competitive dancing, and kai who plays as someone that limits himself or is otherwise unambitious for the sake of supporting others. okay, same conflicts, let's see if the character development transfers from role to actor.

we have suzu playing louis who has pages and pages of monologue specifically, because suzu is bad at memorizing lines unless it's built around a conversation with another person (opposite of sou, who can memorize lines on his own). and also he has to do it while dancing, which he also needs to improve on. sou plays a jeanne who is cheerful, sociable, literally acts as the glue that binds everyone together through instigating the competition -- a departure from sou's own personality (plus sou, at this point I think, still wanted to play jack roles, though idk if neji knew this, or if it mattered to him). kisa plays a jack role for the first time, while also dancing and singing, and had to deal with neji sending her off to spy/steal ideas from other classes for her own improvement (in the guise of letting other classes try to poach her from quartz). neji always pushes a little harder on kisa, because he's always amazed that kisa will just do any of his own unreasonable demands (he says something to this effect if you let kisa choose neji to help her during one of the rehearsals).

so, okay, we've got a training plan down for everyone... except mitsuki. mitsuki doesn't get a challenge. shiroma is a side character, a prize to be won, very flat compared to even mukai (who has more depth to his personality even without the last minute improv). neji even throws in the random jazz lounge singer just so mitsuki can sing, which ends up looking more like a favor to mitsuki (since he only likes singing) and a "might as well use your talents somewhere" scenario.

(lmao shut up mitsuki, you got an easy role. sou has to dance both the great galleon and the random social dance kanna does in the background in andou's studio, and the dance she does with louis. the only characters who don't dance as much are mukai and employees A and B).

neji seems to place mitsuki in the same category as otori and himself: reliable in the roles they're good at, with no need to push for improvement compared to the others. but that's so interesting to me because like... why wouldn't he push mitsuki more? why wait until late into the year during the winter performance? and even then, initially, he wanted mitsuki as al jeanne more so to train kisa and fumi, rather than mitsuki himself. like, this is the scriptwriter who has no problems using other people's own inner conflicts as inspiration for his writing. neji can be a mean casting director when he wants to be. there's no reason why mitsuki is an exception.

I guess shiroma being a prize to be won and nothing more does mimic how mitsuki is valued for being a tresor and nothing more. but there is no space in the play for shiroma or mitsuki to do anything about that, unlike fumi and kai whose characters (andou and hasekura) both change throughout the play. mitsuki himself realizes very late into rehearsals (like, around a week before the performance) how he can connect with shiroma

and I mean, sure, that sounds compelling, but I don't think that's what neji intended nor do I think mitsuki is just talking about shiroma at this point, but hey this is the "theater is a metaphor" game sooooooo

anyway. I just think it's so odd that neji doesn't push mitsuki that much... but then I think about otori. I'd bet if otori wasn't so hilariously antagonistic to suzukisasou, he would also get the mean director neji treatment. not because of otori himself but more like. neji writes around actor chemistry and otori's rapport with the other actors is just less inspiring for drama and more inspiring for comedy LMAO (sorry otori). chui himself had a missing takihime bc he didn't really vibe with anyone on the stage.

and maybe that's it? mitsuki is also a person who distances himself from other people, and doesn't really put in the effort until later in the game. and before he even makes the effort for quartz (that neji sees), he really only made an effort for kisa. (I still maintain that mitsuki cares a lot about quartz even from the beginning, but whatever, I guess early game mitsuki that wasn't compelling enough for neji)

and I think it makes more sense why neji couldn't write anything for mitsuki. early game mitsuki doesn't have interesting relationships that neji could see. neji could write fumi and kai together and let their own internal conflicts be reflected in their relationship onstage. hasekura lets andou shine. mary jane wanted an equal (some form of it, a "friend" in the play) and that's why she created jacob. neji sees suzu and sou fighting in the hallway and in the next play writes jire and fugio fighting over chicchi. neji sees otori... being otori, and either writes him as funny side character A or a small-time antagonist to kisa.

which makes it extra hilarious why neji didn't understand oh rama havenna. neji wanted to experiment with fumi as a jack and kisa as a lead role. and mitsuki finally, coincidentally slots in as someone who could fill in the gaps left by fumi not being the al jeanne, and as someone who has a good relationship with kisa. and yet. mitsuki excels above and beyond during oh rama havenna, precisely because he makes rukiora his own character (as opposed to how neji initially wrote rukiora based on a younger version of himself; hence rukiora's relationship with domina) and rukiora's chemistry with chicchi reflects mitsuki's own relationship with kisa.

idk, I think all of this is just neat. kinda wish neji pushed mitsuki a little bit earlier, but also I think it's cute that he kept giving mitsuki easy roles for a while. he can push and prod the other actors, but he's making sure the princess doesn't have too much to complain about.

I've been eyeballing this set for 20 years:

Dino Research Compound (5987].

The Dino Research Compound is the pinnacle set for the third sub-theme of Adventurers, a pastiche of Indiana Jones. Adventurers is singled out fairly common now for being an example of how, had LEGO always had the opportunity to do licensed sets, they would have, and it gets worse with this sub-theme, Dino Island, getting Jurassic Park (1993) in on the mix.

Dino Island comes immediately after the Egypt and Jungle sub-themes of 1998 and 1999, coming to us in 2000, and sets itself apart by not taking place in a real world location nor concerning itself with the two factions, led by Johnny Thunder and Sam Sinister respectively, fighting over treasure hunting. I'm not sure how most Adventurers fans felt about this shift, but it's fine by me given how much it dials back on the colonialist concepts present at the forefront of the theme.

Dino Island sees the two parties trying to capture dinosaurs, but most of the sets in this sub-theme are stretched a bit thin to try and meet the new concept, as the majority of sets are vehicles with either no dinosaurs or a single Pteranodon or baby T-Rex present. The big multi-piece dinosaurs are saved for the most expensive sets, which is kind of a shame; you'd have to fork over a lot of money to get a T-Rex, but it's a practice that wouldn't stick around forever (see: LEGO Vikings presenting a smaller set with Fafnir so you could get a compromise if you couldn't afford the giant fort with Nidhogg).

This set specifically: we get the main compound, a bridge, a side build with a tree and some machinery, a plane, a jallopy, and a boat! Let's take these one at a time.

The research compound is three stories tall and uses what I'd call "dollhouse" LEGO construction, wherein instead of building up the structure in its entirety, you instead build each story individually and they connect with little clutch power. The bridge doesn't use any clutch power, as it's connected by loosely fitting anti-clip poles, on both sides. The side platform doesn't have a main feature to speak of.

There isn't a "cohesive" quality to the entire build, it's mostly just littered with play features:

There's a dinosaur pen on the first story of the compound that can open up to house the baby T-Rex.

There's a net tosser on the second story.

There's a fall-away floor trap on the second story.

The top of the compound can unfold to reveal a satellite dish (which, may be a historical anachronism given this takes place in the 1920's?)

There's a zip line connecting both main areas that can have some supplies run down.

The tree can be toppled over.

The boat can connect to the crane or a docking point.

The plane can drop a net.

There's a litany of tools lying around, on top of the three vehicles and four dinosaurs, and it didn't hit me until after I had finished assembling it; this is a play set designed for *multiple* children to ideally share. The sheer volume of stuff going on can't mean anything else, and given the original MSRP of $80 (which, regardless of all other economic factors, is a high call for a LEGO set) further leads me to this conclusion.

Talking about more specific features, this set coming out in 2000 isn't a huge shock to the senses after I've purchased and built many 2020's LEGO sets, but it is a strong sign of how much things are different. For one, despite its size, the set only has a little over 600 pieces. An equivalent sized set now would feature two to three times as much. Dino Island was released in the middle of The Lego Group's identity crisis as a company that spawned a huge volume of experimental ideas that mostly did nothing except make builds worse and spawn the most reviled LEGO themes (Znap, Scala, Galidor, Jack Stone, etc.). I was braced for this to be a "juniorized" set but was actually surprised at how satisfying the build was overall. It doesn't feature a raised base plate like the previous two largest Adventurers set, which I might add did suffer from rather homely looking builds.

The low piece count however does mean two things. For one, there is a lot of hollow space in this build. Most rooms in the compound don't have anything going on. The build also doesn't use much any advanced building techniques, it's very much of that classic LEGO design where you aren't doing much more novel than stacking bricks on top of each other. LEGO sets now are kind of insane; you connect bricks to the sides, tops, and bottoms of other bricks, they're there for really intense structural support that gives them the feeling of being impossible to meaningfully break if you dropped them. The Dino Research Compound, on the other hand, is coming apart given any amount of gravitational force. The two vehicles are decent enough, but special mention should go to the plane both for its color scheme and how it isn't built on an obnoxiously large plate, though I'm not sure if I've seen any actual planes have two completely separate pilot compartments.

Also of note is the inclusion of the "old" brown color which has since then become replaced by a shade of brown slightly lighter and more reddish. The roofing pieces with the rust prints, the green base plate with the rounded edge, and the Stegosaurus with dark orange legs (another discontinued color) are all set exclusives. I kept my eyes out for pieces from the experimental era, large and highly situational parts. Probably my favorite thing about LEGO now is how pieces can be repurposed for any number of designs, and seeing late 1990's sets like those from Rock Raiders make me cringe because of how highly specialized parts they include. The boat caught my eye, considering it's all one piece and not brickbuilt, but much to my surprise it's a piece still in use now. There's an oddball mix of what's brickbuilt and what's not however, such as the sextant being all one piece but the microscope is built from scratch.

You get the entire cast from Dino Island minus Sam Sinister's sister (name is eluding me right now). For dinosaurs, you get everything from this line sans the Triceratops. The baby T-Rex has a single connection on the bottom, and can be held by a minifigure comfortably. The Pteranodon is an odd one. It's feet are clamps but there's not much use for them, but it can be put onto any 2x2 stud surface, and it has two studs on top. The Tyrannosaurus and Stegosaurus both have four studs on top (perfectly for a minifigure to ride on) along with a 4x6 foot print. Though they're the titular characters, the dinosaurs are rather tiny compared to their actual size and should be considered accessories rather than the stars. The Stegosaurus reuses the tail from a LEGO crocodile, and the Tyrannosaurus reuses the arms from a LEGO dragon, firmly placing them into the LEGO animal family, which makes it a shame that none of these molds lived past 2001.

If there's anything else of note, for one, the front of the box opens up to give a peak at the pieces inside. The right side of the box includes a plastic insert to show off all the dinosaurs, and there's a cardboard divider as well. This and the set's construction make it easy to just disassemble the big chunks and comfortably put them back in for storage. The instructions also include some brief steps for alternate builds, at a very rare period when LEGO actually did that, though the alternative builds aren't anything special. The instructions also end on a brief summary of the species included, though since LEGO instructions are supposed to be language independent, there's not much they can do. Interesting to see lumbering tail-dragging dinosaurs in 2000 however. What seals the overall set for me is this set includes the same 2001 catalog I originally saw this in, it all comes around full circle...

Sorbet

Once in a Lifetime by Talking Heads

And you may ask yourself, “Am I right? Am I wrong?”

And you say to yourself, “My God! What have I done?”

I associate this song with Sorbet a lot! One of my big things with my headcanons about him is that he’s afraid of change that’ll drastically alter his life, and learning to be more accepting of it both on his own terms and through his relationship with Gelato. I like to imagine “same as it ever was” as something he’s trying to convince himself of or something he’s repeating to himself that reflects his mindset, perhaps even reassurance. The first verses remind me of my headcanons for when he was involved in gangs before he joined Passione, wondering how he got himself into this mess.

Overall, I just enjoy it and how it fits my perception of Sorbet.

The Future by Mystery Skulls

Ain’t go no time to waste on bullshit

You know I gotta keep my head on straight

‘Cause at the rate that things keep changing

I don’t really care about second place

Again, the lyrics very much tie into my headcanons about Sorbet’s feelings about change, as well as his feelings towards money. Sorbet doesn’t like to dwell on his past and hardly any nice memories to look back on before meeting Gelato. He does what he has to maintain stability, and he will go far to make sure that happens no matter what. Money plays a big part in his concerns, which is another reason I think the lyrics fit. Also, it’s just a cool sounding song!

Cat People (Putting Out Fire) by David Bowie

Just be still with me

You wouldn’t believe what I’ve been through

Not all of the lyrics fit, but the general tone suits Sorbet. I think it suits how he thinks of Passione and the situation he’s found himself in. He seems cold and detached to outsiders, but he’s been through a lot of sadness and pain. Not a lot of people will realise that unless they’re close to him.

Mind by Talking Heads

Time won’t change you, money won’t change you

I haven’t got the faintest idea

Everything seems up in the air at this point

I need something to change your mind

This song is on his playlist for a simple reason. Again, relates to Sorbet and change. I won’t repeat what I said about Once in a Lifetime because it applies here too, just in a more straightforward way.

The Fight is Over from Over the Garden Wall

The river runs cold, the fight is over

Still the haunted ruins of night call your name

This isn’t here for a specific reason, it just conjures up an image of young Sorbet after his hope has been crushed by his gang and he’s tiring of carrying on.

Sunday Morning by The Velvet Underground

Early dawning, Sunday morning

It’s just the wasted years so close behind

Watch out, the world’s behind you

There’s always some around you who will call

It’s nothing at all

To me, this song is about regret and remembering sad things in the past. I chose this song because I think it’s very fitting to Sorbet, his sadness and regret, and perhaps a scenario where he’s letting himself look back on his past. There is no fear, but some pain and sorrow.

Leopard by Jack Stauber

Now how can I blame that on fate?

When you’re right, you’re right, baby

Every time we change it’s too late

Like a lot of Jack Stauber’s songs, the lyrics are more abstract so I chose this more for specific parts and general themes rather than the full lyrics. The song has an overall theme of change (are you noticing a pattern with the songs I’m choosing?) and it makes me think of Sorbet’s doubts about himself and his life. It also makes me think of early on in his relationship with Gelato and his worry about that. Not worry about Gelato, but rather worry that something is going to happen that’ll separate them or a bad change will come about and disrupt their happiness.

Live and Let Die by Wings

But if this ever-changing world in which we live in

Makes you give in and cry

Say, “Live and let die”

Pretty simple reasons for this one. For me, it makes me think of Sorbet abandoning his naivety and hope, and taking on the job of working for his gang and later becoming a hitman for Passione.

Money, Money, Money by ABBA

And there still there never seems to be

A single penny left for me

That’s too bad

Sorbet wants to make money to keep his life stable and he’s frustrated with Passione, especially the other gangsters who do less dirty work and yet get to hoard the wealth. Also, I just put this one on here because it’s funny. Don’t take it too seriously.

Sway by The Rolling Stones

It’s just that demon life has got me its sway

Less the specifics, and more just the general tone of the song remind me of Sorbet. It makes me think of his life, journey, and finding his way with Gelato by his side. It also seems like a song I can imagine him listening to at home. (I associate it with Bruno also.)

Big Dark Love by Murder by Death

Pain like a searing light

Cuts like a dull knife

Are you awake?

Can I come over tonight?

This song reminds me of Sorbet’s pain and allowing himself to open up to Gelato as their relationship progresses. He’s aware of who he is, he’s aware of both their dark lives. And still, he lets his guard fall and spends more and more time with Gelato.

I couldn’t hide my feelings inside

I say that’s not my way, that’s not my way

That’s not like me, that’s not like me

Gelato is a very honest person, both to himself and to those he’s close to. It took him a long time to break his habits of lying and avoiding people to get to that point though. He doesn’t like having to keep his feelings hidden and won’t take anything he disagrees with. This goes for his love for Sorbet too, he tried to be open about his feelings when he realised their love was mutual. He won’t hide anything from his husband or his friends. This song is very fitting for him.

Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On) by Talking Heads

Well, I’m a tumbler

Born under punches

I’m so thin

All I want is to breathe

Won’t you breathe with me?

I find it hard to explain why I associate this song with Gelato, but I will try anyway. He’s been through a lot, being a reckless and lonely, anxious mess as a teenager/young adult. He just wanted to survive. As he befriended and later fell in love with Sorbet, he grew to learn how to handle his own feelings and reason with himself. He doesn’t just want to survive, he wants peace. Yet, things keep coming. Passione brings more and more struggles, and he sees how much it’s affecting the both of them. He’s determined to keep going, and won’t let anything come between him, his love, and his chance to just live his life.

This song means a lot to me, and I think it suits what I described very well.

Into the Unknown from Over the Garden Wall

Our long bygone burdens

Mere echoes of the Spring

But where have we come?

And where will we end?

This song doesn’t have specific reasons for being here, I just associate Gelato with nature and the tone of this song. It fits for other reasons, but I don’t know how to explain how.

Love My Way by The Psychedelic Furs

Love my way, it’s a new road

I follow where my mind goes

While Gelato did get involved in crime and later Passione to keep himself afloat, he has always done things his way. He’s very independent (stubborn at times) and brave. He’s dedicated to both Sorbet and his own ways, and won’t let anyone change that.

I Have Made Mistakes by The Oh Hellos

And the sun, it does not cause us to grow

It is the rain that will strengthen your soul

And it will make you whole

I think Gelato puts a lot of value on his own growth and how he is now. He has regrets and if he had the chance, he would’ve liked to choose a different path. He isn’t proud of becoming a hitman, but he’s happy that he’s at least learnt from his past mistakes and perhaps one day, he will be able to find a better, peaceful life. His open attitude towards peace and change helped Sorbet overcome his own fears as well.

I think this song has a very nice message and it’s fitting for Gelato’s growth.

Eggs and Soldiers by Cosmo Sheldrake

I was looking over at my shoulder

Only thinking of the short term

But time was looking back at me

I picked this song for Gelato’s youth and how he was a lot less at peace with himself and feeling as if he always had something to be running from. Asides from that, it’s not fully fitting and I only chose it for a few reasons.

Found in shadows

The lyrics of this song aren’t really straightforward, I can’t say much. I chose it for the things I associate with Gelato and the tone, as well as the imagery it conjures for me. Especially the way it builds up at the end does a lot for my imagination.

And if the real thing don’t do the trick

You better make up something quick

You gotta burn, burn, burn, burn, burn, burn to the wick

Oh, barracuda

I chose this song because I think it can work both with young Gelato with his lying, fear, and meeting Sorbet for the very first time, and present Gelato, perhaps looking back on that time in his life and his feelings on Passione. I don’t have a lot to say, I just think it’s fitting.

Flock of Hearts by The Phoenix Foundation

Will there come a time

Where we won’t have to worry

Every single day?

And is it a crime

This song has a nostalgic feeling for me, although I don’t why since I only heard it a few months ago. It makes me think of Gelato starting to find some hope and questioning what he’s doing with his life. Alternatively, it makes me think of Gelato’s feelings towards his own life, as well as how Passione is affecting both him and Sorbet.

Short Change Hero by The Heavy

I can’t see where you’re comin’ from

I think this song suits how Gelato used to be and learning how to fit in with the criminals he found himself in the company of, but also how he might think of the new members joining La Squadra.

last night, in my half-awake state, I wrote a long rambling post about an RDR2 thought that had been bothering me for a hot second now. the TDLR of it is:

Abigail slept with three of the men in camp AT MOST, not “everyone” like Dutch said

Which, by the by, Dutch is manipulative and a fucking liar. ESPECIALLY when he said that to John, he was just trying to get under John’s skin.

Dutch’s ego has always been way too large. He wouldn’t have allowed John and Abi to be together without pulling some sort of power play just to remind people that she was “his” first. Because lets be real: Dutch definitely feels like he owns the women he’s been with.

And I KNOW the whole camp didn’t sleep with her because I honestly believe they would’ve been throwing that in John’s face at every little provocation - or even just to get a rise out of him since everyone gets on John like that. So the fact that they don’t? yeah. especially the likes of Bill and, again, Dutch.

Like, the canon gang isn’t as sunshine and flowers as fandoms writes them sometimes. They can be rude to each other, and sometimes it’s just teasing, but they also know each other well enough to know how to get under each other’s skin.

Also... Abigail knows men and she’s a lot smarter than people give her credit for. If she knew she was going to run with the gang for even half as long as she does, I don’t think she’d endanger herself by messing around with everyone. That’d be shitting where she ate, and it doesn’t take a genius to know that.

She likely watched everyone and took in the social dynamics before deciding. This feels fairly accurate since we also see that she she stays with Hosea when her and John are fighting/on the outs. And it's more safe for her to do business outside of the camp, at least that way, she can bring in new money to their funds and prove her worth outside of her connection to the men.

Of the three men that Abi did potentially sleep with, it’s likely Arthur, Javier, and the canonical John because the first two are probably the most emotionally mature about their sexual relationships and I think Abigail would trust their temperaments to keep things civil around camp if she ever said no to them.

Everyone’s devotion to Dutch is probably a red flag to her too. She’s always seen through his B.S. to some degree (not all the way through, but enough to sniff out how phony he can be). But that’s EXACTLY why she likely never wanted a relationship with Arthur. His deep ties with the gang and Dutch specifically would frighten her, it would be condemning herself (and later Jack) to the exact lifestyle that she was begging John to get them out of.

(Also, how often did she hear Hosea speak fondly of Bessie? Of the time they left the gang (before his eventual return). I think the epilogue is truly all about them both falling back in love with each other and working towards a better future for their family.)

Because unlike Arthur, John was at least rebellious. He was very opinionated and Abigail felt safe knowing John wasn’t totally indoctrinated and blindly following Dutch's orders, often doing things his own way. And that he even had that freedom to do it to the degree he did.

(Like, I love Arthur so damn much, but the game is literally all about him falling out with Dutch and the gang falling to pieces, and the inevitable doom that comes with being in too deep to save yourself - but still being able to save those around you.)

Abigail just couldn’t ever account for how traumatic fatherhood was for John. And I think she kind of fell out of love with him in RDR2, even when she still saw him as an important factor to getting out of the gang — it’s a dangerous world for a single mother and baby boy after all

Also side note: am kind of loving this idea that John got away with so much in the gang because not only was he a kid when they first picked him up, but because for as unruly and argumentative as he could be, Dutch always thought John was as devoted to the gang as Arthur and Hosea. So when John ran away after Jack was born? That was likely a huge ass betrayal and fed into Dutch’s deepest fears that any of them could turn on him, which we see him accusing Arthur of as early as Horseshoe Overlook (some people even say it happens earlier).

I also firmly believe Jack is John’s, especially since we see John is constantly trying to figure out a way he couldn’t be. But I think she must have fallen pregnant in their ‘honeymoon’ phase, when they were doing everything together and always attached at the hip — because I do think John courted her properly enough, instead of just paying for her services. And we do know that she used to go out on missions all the time before she had Jack, so it doesn’t feel entirely unplausible.

Was just watching The Morbid Zoo's video on The Pirates of the Caribbean and some of the things she points out are:

The first movie is the only one with a theme that's more than lip service. It's about greed. It's a man so consumed by greed it's not even fun any more VS. a man who floats on every whim he has and his sidekick: a sopping wet doormat who's finally doing something for himself (saving someone else (who he's in love with))

Jack Sparrow (and the other Big Pirates) are gods. They're bigger than life, not bound by society's rules, and vain as the day is long. Jack in particular is a trickster god and that defines his M.O.

The golden age of pirates has been over for like the last five movies. If they want to keep milking the franchise they're either going to have to move the setting back a bit or be about something else

So here's my pitch for a Pirates soft reboot. The impulse is to go for someone to compete with Jack. A trickster who's engaging in daring do and near escapes, someone to carry the legacy. Absolute dog shit idea; you're drinking from your own boot print. I recommend Guts from Berzerk.

Hear me out! We need a Big God. Tricksters are always Big, cause they're Big Fun, but you know what else is Big? War.

Our protagonist is a War God. We can even tie him to Jack Sparrow if you want. Even tells like a myth.

A greedy mortal attempts to trick a Trickster into doing something that will make the mortal rich, but makes the Trickster violate a taboo, but he gets found out and gets punished for his Hubris in the face of the Gods etc. etc

So when they try to get Jack to transport slaves he goes down into the cargo hold and finds not-cargo™️ and in the back? He finds someone WRAPPED in chains staring at him with eyes like coal. Someone larger than life, not bound by society's rules, and incredibly vain. Our protagonist is an African War God. Every sword he uses breaks, his mug is a keg, his tits are out the entire time. He's great!

Some years later he's land locked due to having punched, fucked, and drank his way out of ship, crew, and goodwill and he meets our secondary protagonist: a woman who has A) a burning desire to find her ... Sister (your... Sister? Yes. My... Sister. Alright then) and B) a ship she will no longer need when she's found her. So they make a deal he gets the ship when she's done but he has to help. Classic mercenary to best man at the wedding scenario.

Her... Sister. Is, for starters, a different race than our secondary protagonist. For the lolz, it's set dressing. The important part is that she can tell the future. One morning she shot up in bed, said "He's coming for me" and knocked her girlfriend out with a serving tray so she could run away without endangering her.

Our secondary protagonist woke up a couple of hours later in a town on fire and troops everywhere. He's here. He's a "natural philosopher". He's an English Lord using the East India Trading Company like his toy box (who are using him in turn). He's somewhere between a plague of locusts and the Borg. He found out that Girlfriend is psychic (maybe she made a living out of fortune telling?) and decided he wants to dissect her and weigh her brain or whatever. His bosses want her so they can essentially play the 17th century stock market.

Secondary protagonist steals a medium ship and leaves, basically catching up to her meeting with War

Eventually good guy group catches up to Girlfriend (every stop they've taken has been Consumed a bit after. Maybe by this point War has proven he's useful, but not fit for society. He's too big, too strong, too much) and she reveals that they need to get to a specific island to be safe. Maybe it's owned by a country that won't "do business"

They get over taken by a scout ship. There's a naval battle. Both sides run out of ammo and stare each other down as they drift dangerously close beside each other. It's calm. A seagull can be heard. War sinks the scout ship by throwing their cannon at it. This doesn't go here in the story, it just made me laugh.

Anyways there's a tense chase as they get near the safe island. They're getting fired up on. There's a storm. They get "within" the borders of the area and see the other navy's ships and think they're safe, but safety is a lie. The last stronghold has sold out.

I have no clue where it goes from here. My brain is filling in War gets in a fight with Deathshead in his power armor in the cave from the first movie until it collapses upon them sealing our symbol of violence that disrupts and violence that enforces underneath the Earth for all time, but that's definitely not right

Here's the problems so far:

the villain needs to be a god, but there can't be gods in the East India Trading Company, only powerful bean counters

I was banking on themes of violence and stuff (it was more specific but... It's stuff,) but Jack's theme isn't trickery. It's greed, and Barbosa was its penult...

So maybe the villain isn't the Borg locust whatever. Maybe it's Chesty MacArthur. Pride. He's an old privateer decorated to the nines clanking through the world in a suit of his pride. He took a job to get an artifact from Girlfriend, who's native and would rather destroy it than let them take it, so she's running to return it to the sea in a specific way. Maybe properly.

Chesty is always right there, but he's no longer a god, he's just worshipped like one, so our protags keep outpacing him and War is always greater, bigger, Grander. War in rags is everything Chesty gilded himself to capture. But there's a tipping point for everything and even War can't catch cannon fire so they have to run, and it's not interesting unless he gets the artifact so maybe the island with the ritual site is.. in sight, and they lose. The big fancy ship catches up and blots out the sun. War is out of cannons to throw. They're boarded and captured after War makes his displeasure known as many men deep as is visually interesting.

Chesty has the artifact that... Changes the weather? Sure. Anyways he starts messing with it, but he thinks it does other stuff. Maybe he heard a version of the story where it makes you invincible in combat. He's feeling himself. He's feeling his pride. He tells his men to let War loose so they can fight. It's a visual deal. The weather is getting worse. The fight is making it's way around the ship. They get up to the mast and duel up there for a while, but it's swaying wildly and the viewer can't help but think about the jokes about Chesty's medals drowning him made earlier in the movie when the inevitable happens. War's sword snaps in the face of his abuse. Chesty brings up his blade to finish him and ... Gets stuck by lightning attracted to all that metal. Then War punts him into the ocean. Chesty drags the artifact to his watery grave

Update on the artifact. It's on display in a church and Girlfriend wants to return it to its original owners, a still independent people on the other side of the Caribbean. Secondary protagonist would rather have a quiet life though, so Girlfriend leaves a break up note and runs away in the night

Secondary protagonist note. She tries very hard to be a twee pastoral version of the feminine ideal. She's going to get good grades at being a lower class fem, something that's both possible to achieve etc. War makes fun of her for finding out her ... Sister ran away and going promptly feral. She denies everything

Chesty was actually going to rob the church, but Girlfriend National Treasured him and now he's going to flay her alive

Girlfriend is as close to a hardcore, punk girl as you can get without being anachronistic... She may be named after a state... Maybe she's backwards Indiana Jones. She makes a living telling fortune and claims to know things were going to happen a lot. Maybe she did. Maybe that shriek was all part of the plan

War's comedy is slapstick, comical feats of strength and "bad things happening to people that aren't me"

I'm not sure about the falling action. Maybe War roars victoriously in the face of Chesty's crew and there is a cut to the good guys sailing into port on the big ship. Maybe there's a joke about secondary protagonist over paying War with the new ship. Maybe this pivots to imply new adventures. Maybe War tries to run off without them. There's definitely a credits scene where it shows the entire crew of the big ship packed like sardines on the medium ship

War meets secondary protagonist because after failing to get a new ship the conventional way he decides to take one. He heads to the docks and sees this woman commiting grand theft and decides that he needs to be involved. Not allowed to commit grand theft without him, random lady, don't you know? Then they argue when they've gotten away and realize he still doesn't have a ship. Ends in deal

I could do story break. This shit is easy
