Alright, I'm going to write my own thoughts down on the situation, sorry if this gets rambly

First of all, Shubble is so brave for speaking up, it's really hard for victims to speak up against there abusers in a public setting and she deserves all the respect in the world for it

That being said we do need to be mindful to give her space, this was a really traumatic thing for her and we all need to be mindful of that, give her room to breath.

On the same lines, don't go after other ccs for not ""releasing statements"", content creators aren't companies, there people. Don't get on at them for not publicly supporting Shubble, especially since there undoubtedly doing it in private, which is probably better than shoving it out there for millions of people to see. Let people support there friend in a way they and shubble are confortable with, if shubble wants them to say something or they think they need to say something themselves, they will say it.

It's like Pearl said, just because you don't see something happening publicly doesn't mean it isn't happening

Also, don't jump to call Tommy or Phil or Grian or anyone else enablers because they haven't said anything, they'll need time to process this too, it's hard to find out that your friend is a domestic abuser, let them process this in piece and don't try to cancel them over nothing like a fool. (People like Tommy will need time especially since Wilbur befriended them when they were young and by all accounts manipulated them too)

Dinner with Katsuki is precisely what you dreamed it would be: seamless and firmly rooted in his brand of romance. He takes you to a place that serves authentic Indian food. It’s right near the station. As soon as you enter, rich aromas of masalas and spices waft past your nostrils. Immediately, you begin to salivate.

“Fuck, it smells good in here,” your date mumbles. “Can’t wait t’ dig in.”

“Tell me about it,” you mumble.

In no time, a waitress collects you at the door. She guides you to a table amongst a small crowd of people. A few of them take notice of Katsuki and whisper excitedly between each other. You gulp. You hadn’t thought about the consequences of dating a pro hero. What will publicity bring?

“Ignore ‘em.” The blonde says gruffly. “Tonight’s about me ‘n you, not any of these extras.”

You cringe. He’s certainly not afraid to voice his opinions, hoping intimidation is enough to keep gossipers at bay. Fortunately, he’s right.

You both take a seat. He sets your knapsack down on the chair next to you. The waitress hands you a couple of menus, and you take your time going through them. The table is quiet as you decide. The atmosphere is light and soothing. The nerves you felt at the start of your date are dissipating.

You order your food, as does he. A glass of wine for you, and a double of whiskey for him. The waitress scurries off to fulfill it, leaving the two of you alone again.

Your mind is racing. Breaking the ice is hard. His fiery gaze is boring into you and he doesn’t appear ready to chat anytime soon. The only thing you can focus on is the case you just solved, so you use that to toss your nervousness out the window and initiate conversation.

“S-so, I’m glad we caught him,” you stammer. “The villain, I mean. Today.”

He leans back in his chair and shrugs.

“Yeah. Piece of shit should rot in Tartarus f’r what he did.”

You nod absently. Where he’s going, you hope he isn’t able to harm anyone else. The suffering he’s caused the family of his victims is enough for one lifetime.

“Did you have trouble capturing him?”

“Nah.”

“Th-that’s good.”

“D’ya think I asked you out t’ talk about work?”

His brows are furrowed and his mouth twisted into a petite frown. You lick your lips, heat flooding your cheeks. That’s what you get for acting impulsively. Why are you so uncomfortable with silence?

“S-sorry,” you mumble, embarrassed. “I just… I guess I don’t know what else to talk about.”

Katsuki appreciates your honesty. In the past, he’s been on dates where his partner scrambled to fill the silence, eventually bringing up whatever vapid shit came to mind. He respects that you don’t fall victim to the same sort of urgency. It’s more natural this way.

“How ‘bout yourself?” He suggests. “Unless you’re tight-lipped about your personal life on dates, too.”

You laugh. At that moment, the waitress swings by with your merlot. She sets two wine glasses down and pours. You thank her and take a sip. A heavy, bitter flavour of berries greets your tongue. It’s not at all unpleasant.

“I just don’t like talking about myself at work,” you explain, putting down your glass. “And I don’t do much else these days, what with staff shortages, so I guess I’m not used to it.”

“You work harder than this stubborn bastard I know.”

He means it as a compliment. In his youth, Katsuki went through an identity crisis and blamed him for the insecurities it caused; nevertheless, his bond with Izuku has only grown in adulthood — for the better. Now, he acknowledges his conscientiousness and potential as a true hero.

“Your friends aren’t buggin’ ya?” He inquires. “If I’d known you don’t cut yourself any breaks, I’d’ve asked you out sooner.”

It’s feels nice to be fawned over. Prior to today, you had no clue he harboured such a fascination for you. Although you want to take his attraction at face value, you have your guard up. You’re not looking for friends with benefits; you’re seeking a companion in him. If he thinks he can talk sweetly to you for the purpose of getting in your pants, he’s got another thing coming.

“They know I’m busy.” You brush off his concern with a smile. “And we see each other here and there.”

He props up his elbows on the backrest of his chair and stares across the room distantly, eyes fixated on the kitchen doors. You don’t blame him; you’re starving, too. You think he’s abandoned the topic, when he speaks.

“As long as you’re not workin’ yourself into the ground. Think I’d like t’ keep seein’ ya.”

It isn’t much longer until your food arrives. The waitress sets down the dishes and utensils; then, she wishes you a good meal and excuses herself. You spend the rest of your time chatting intermittently about the flavours, sharing food between each other, and enjoying your meals. When you finish, it’s later in the evening. You’ve emptied your wine glass twice, as has he with his whiskey. You’re in good spirits.

He orders two cups of tea for dessert. As you sip, he wonders about your family and which part of town you live in. Likewise, you ask him about his development into one of the top pro heroes in Japan. You discover he doesn’t like to boast. He mentions his passion for honing his quirk and being “the best” in his youth. He describes how Best Jeanist, a former Billboard Hero, taught him to concentrate more on contained survival than reckless showing off. All in all, he keeps his story short and sweet.

It sounds like he’s been through a lot. You’re surprised someone with such an action-packed life is into you. The edgiest thing you’ve ever done was taking out a loan to attend graduate school. You thought he would have preferred another hero. Then again, the idea of seeing another forensic detective doesn’t do it for you. You’d rather leave work where it is and retire after a long day. Maybe Katsuki feels the same.

“Well?” He prompts you gruffly.

You blink absently. Did he say something while you were lost in thought? You lift a brow and hum, prompting him to clarify. He rolls his eyes playfully, picking up on how the alcohol has distracted you.

“What did’j’ya think of the meal?”

You beam at him.

“I loved it!”

“You sure? I won’t be offended.”

“Positive! I really enjoyed myself. Thank you, Katsuki.”

You catch a brief smile fluttering across his face. Just as soon as it appears, though, it’s gone. He feels like an idiot for getting flustered by something so simple, but he likes listening to you, and every syllable of his name sounds like heaven on your tongue. In his teenage years, you eliciting this sort of vulnerability would have infuriated him; as an adult, he knows how to calmly identify his emotions and reel them in.

He fucking likes you — that’s the truth. You’re bright and interesting. You encourage him engage with his thoughts and opinions, instead of dismiss them. He’s compelled to learn more about you. He gets the sense that he could converse with you for days and not get bored. You’re a rare breed.

“Ready t’ go?” He prompts you. “I’ll pay and we can head out.”

“You don’t have to pay,” you insist. “I can afford my half.”

“Fat fuckin’ chance.” He snorts. “Lemme get this this one f’r us, princess.”

You huff. Normally, you would want to pay; that way, there are no expectations for later. You’re not sure if you want to put out tonight. He’s playing all his cards right, and the tension is there, but you don’t want this to be a one night stand. When you have crushes on people, you mean them.

“Well… okay.” You concede. “But only if I can get the next one.”

“We’ll see.”

“Hey! C’mon!”

“Grab your shit an’ let’s go.”

You groan as you slip on your windbreaker and grab your knapsack. He’s already at the counter, settling the tab. Katsuki escorts you out of the building with a hand on the small of your back. In no time, you’re back on the street.

At this time of night, there aren’t many people walking around. It’s mostly other couples, pacing home or simply enjoying the evening together. The atmosphere is serene. A gentle wind tousles the leaves, adding to the tranquility. You shiver.

Katsuki walks head of you; then, he extends his hand for you to take. You do so with only a smidgen of hesitation this time, trying to trust your budding feelings for him. He reels you closer. Your palms touch his firm chest as he secures you against him. He gazes at you with a ghost of a smirk.

“So, you want there t’ be a next time?”

Reflexively, you laugh. Your face burns as you scramble to respond. You’re not used to being teased this way.

“Um… yeah. I-I guess I do.”

“No more pretendin’ you’re not inta me, then.”

“When you started flirting with me, I thought you were just bored,” you admit sheepishly. “But I k-kinda had a crush on you.”

His grip on you tightens.

“Had?”

“Have.”

“S’what I thought.”

Katsuki isn’t sure if it’s the whiskey or how easy it is to talk to you, but he feels comfortable around you. He wasn’t sure if it would translate as well outside of work — in his eyes, you had the potential to be too good for him. If you want him like he wants you, perhaps there’s a shot. Besides, you’re bound to understand his busy schedule and odd hours, what with you being in law enforcement. So what if you’re not a hero? He’s merely looking for someone he can sync up with.

“Look, I ain’t great at expressin’ my feelings ‘n shit, but I thought you were cute as soon as you showed up t’ that crime scene. Showed me you were smart, too. Down t’ earth. Not just a fuckin’ stiff in a tight skirt.”

You draw yourself into the memory. When you received the call, you arrived earlier than everyone else with your equipment. Officers were stationed around the perimeter, blocking all pedestrian points so you could do your work. Apparently, the victim was a big deal — that’s why Dynamight was assigned to your case. Half of his job was to protect you; the other half was to commence takedown of the scumbag murderer.

You thought he was annoying and pompous when he first appeared, sauntering around the scene like he was in charge. He seemed disinterested, as though he’d rather be doing something else. You didn’t love his attitude. But then, as he started to help — flirting with you, in the process — you witnessed a different side of him. Maybe it wasn’t that he didn’t care, but more so that he desensitizes himself to function.

Despite the rumours about him, you recognize that Katsuki has feelings. He gives a damn about victims and keeping civilians safe. Although he’s brash and aggressive in nature, his heart isn’t as icy as people think.

“I always thought you were handsome,” you admit shyly, averting your eyes. “Whenever I saw you on TV, I mean.”

He smirks.

“You’re not a fuckin’ super fan, are ya?”

“No!” You grin. “You’re just always on the News for breaking things, so you’re pretty hard to miss.”

He snorts. You glance at him to see if you crossed a line with your comment. Joy fills your soul when you catch him rubbing his jaw with a large hand, no doubt to hide another smile. If you were anyone else, he’d tell you to fuck off. Because you’re you, he feels his attraction to you soar.

“Shut the hell up an’ tell me when you’re free next week.”

And he seals the deal with a light peck on the cheek. He fights the urge to capture your sweet lips once more, hoping that one day, he won’t have to.

What is wrong with the writers of the new MCU material? Do they just hate Bucky, especially the writer of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier (he's NOT the Winter Soldier anymore!)? Did Bucky kick their cat or something? This hatred and victim blaming is not justified! "Oh Bucky's just a cray-cray psycho killing machine with cool metal arm but probably belongs in a padded cell. Lol he says he had no choice such a lame excuse..."

Soo…I don’t know if people still remember the rumours from back in 2021 and I don’t know how much of it is true, but my guess at it is this: there were supposed to be two main writers on the series. Spellman was supposed to take Sam’s story, while the other guy wrote Bucky’s story. For whatever reason, the other guy quit before he finished, and didn’t give the writing team enough time to put things together.

From a story craft point of view, Bucky’s story in TFATWS reeks of first-draft-ism. It’s a scattered plot of events that don’t quite string together, and a self-contradictory characterisation that hasn’t yet been smoothed over (but was made a little more believable by Sebastian’s efforts). You can tell some central character themes had been planted in the first draft — the PTSD, the guilt, the messy way he’s trying to relearn how to interact with people (Yori, Sam and later the Wakandans), the struggle with breaking free of his past. These were all strong, interesting character beats for Bucky to work through, and it honestly could have been a good story. And I think that’s when the original writer bailed.

When Spellman picked up this draft, he was pressed for time, he hadn’t watched CATWS and he never thought he’d needed to know about Bucky’s story, so he reads TheMovieSpoiler summary of the movie and tries to piece the rest of the story together. But Bucky’s not his priority nor his interest. There’s already beats of the story that were planned and have to be there for IP reasons. So beyond what was already in the first draft as mentioned above, Bucky is made to be the fall guy to make the rest of the plot happen. Zemo’s release — well we can’t make Sam help break out the criminal that killed an African king so we’ll make Bucky do it, who cares if it makes no sense for his character. The counselling session — the show’s few moments of levity, doesn’t matter that it makes no sense but hey, forced homoeroticism is hilarious, isn’t it? The Wakandan three-way fight — I may be remembering this wrong but I think Skogland said it was one of the first scenes that she had planned for. That fight had to happen, and again Bucky was made to provoke the Wakandans to the point Seb had to step in and say, almost literally, “he would not fucking say that” to make them wind back the animosity between Bucky and Ayo. Sam’s suit — oh no we can’t have Sam asking for it himself that would be too egocentric, we also can’t have Wakandans offering because well, not like the plot actually made Sam a strong ally for Wakanda, so we get Bucky asking for Sam’s suit to be made minutes after he fixes his mistake of releasing Zemo. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make sense if it’s Bucky doing it, cos I really think by this stage Spellman didn’t give a shit about a character that wasn’t supposed to be his responsibility in the first place. It’s like when you’re doing group project and your teammate bails on you, you’re gonna do just enough to get that pass but you ain’t putting in the effort for a distinction cos just looking at the unfinished work is pissing you off. So then Bucky also becomes the token white male who pushes all the wrong buttons during the few token racism scenes cos we gotta make Walker have some redeemable qualities and he’s already a dick so we can’t make him racist too.

So instead of having a thoughtful story about a veteran trying to grapple with his guilt and PTSD and lack of agency and making some mistakes along the way, you get a weird disjointed plot of some guy…with some bad dreams…who randomly does things for no good personal reason…who gets made the butt of the joke for the stuff he’s experienced cos he’s got a metal arm and super soldier serum how hard could it have been he just needs to go and apologise for killing people while simultaneously having multiple poignant scenes portraying his lack of agency.

Every writer who tells you “a hero is only as interesting as the villain” just secretly wants to write a simpable villain. And when that writer isn’t very skilled, you get the disaster of TFATWS where a lot of effort is spent on making Zemo funny and personable, and Walker nuanced and sympathetic, instead of making either of the titular heroes funny or personable or nuanced or sympathetic. And yeah, I really don’t think Spellman ever cared enough about Bucky to want to make him sympathetic…or a hero. Remember when he said Bucky pulling open the van door was the first time Bucky has ever been a hero? Fuck right off with that.

I do not accept - we did not know the extent of what we were defending as an excuse here. You knew the charges it’s even clear in the letters themselves - you know it’s about the SA of a child (a child some of you even knew personally), you decided to disregard them, defend them or downplay them. You are only coming out now with weak-ass apologies because you have to - in reality you never thought those letters would see the light of day outside the court room.

Thinking about the Birdie stuff brings up some really nasty feelings the art community is a shit show and in no way safe for kids, speaking as someone who was really screwed up in animation meme spaces after getting in close contact with an idol of mine when I was 12. I won't bring up who, It happened almost a decade ago and I have no evidence for it and that person doesn't seem to be actively posting anywhere now anyway. They made like one or two massively popular flipaclip animations and fucked off. Plus I feel like it wouldn't be good for me and I'll also not allude to what took place specifically for that reason That being said when it all came to a breaking point I was blamed for everything that had happened by the people around me, the 12 year old in the situation in a group of 20 something year olds.

I have a lot of people around me who were in similar art spaces in their early pre-teen to teen years suffer the same fate. I either have to grapple with the fact those events changed me in such a way that I simply gravitate towards people who had similar things happen to them for comfort or that this is happens so frequently that a majority of people I know have been screwed up by something like that. I'm not really sure I can handle either of those explanations but I think we all know its probably the latter.

But it did change me in a way that it probably effects my life in small and subtle ways that build up that I can't pick up on and it scares me, this shit really messes kids up. I'm one of the lucky ones because my experience wasn't used as fodder by adults in the community to make videos about mocking the victims in these situations for acting like unemotionally regulated children (which children often act that way for the record) or just retraumatise the victims by making think pieces about the predators for money. I've seen grown ass adults call obviously groomed children irredeemable monsters with no thought and no guilt for something I know they can't control because they're just kids. How does that help anyone? When I was a kid I already blamed myself for everything that happened and it took a lot of self reflection to realise it wasn't my fault. Also now that I'm the same age as the people were when they did that stuff to me as a kid I know it's not normal for adults to be interacting with random 12 year olds online anyway.

I still have people to this day bring up what has happened to me and try blame me for it. So just a reminder for anyone reading this that has gone through shit like this that it wasn't your fault that it happened no matter what anyone says if someone victim blames you about it I will kill them badly

they managed to massacre Aang's character and all the struggle and importance of his choice in the finale in a SINGLE page, and yet there are people who think the comics are good

Not to mention: yes, Zuko is right that a lifetime of indoctrination won't magically stop affecting him just because he's aware of it now, but the way the comics really said "If you're not perfect, you deserve to die. Not rehabilitation, not even incarceration despite it being an option, just straight to violent, lethal punishment" is horrying.

And lets not forget the blatant abuse apologism of having Zuko, the kid who was told by his abusive parent that his disfigurement and banishment was "for his own good" after he made one "mistake", turning to his closest friends and asking them to be his "safety net" by MURDERING HIM IF EVER STEPS OUT OF LINE - and said friends then agree to it.

Are you fucking kidding me? The real Aang would have double-down on the "You're NOT your father" bit, and the entire friend group would have been super concerned about Zuko because a victim of abuse saying they're as bad as their abuser thus deserve to die is one hell of a red flag as to how their mental health is going.

Speaking of mental health: I talk a lot about how Azula was constantly being abused by the supposed heroes in the comics, and how the justification of it is rooted in ableism, but this nonsense with Zuko asking to be put down like a dog is also peak victim blaming, and one of the few moments in which one can actually feel bad for comics!Zuko.

And it ties into a disturbing pattern I noticed among Avatar fans - and mainly Zuko fans. They don't truly understand that what Ozai put his children through was wrong, they simply think he chose the wrong kid as the escapegoat. They think Azula should have been the one that is constantly punished just for existing, while Zuko is the golden child that can do no wrong - or else.

This moment right here? With the people that he trusts agreeing to inflict violence on him if he ever makes a mistake? This is that "or else". This is literally the same mentality that led to Azula's breakdown because NO ONE CAN SURVIVE UNDER THAT MUCH PRESSURE.

And that leads us to the main reason why the comcis suck: Yang was using Zuko as a self-insert.

Yang. My guy. My dude. The words "Ozai" and "wisdom" should NEVER be in the same sentence. Every single action of Ozai's as Fire Lord was based on him being an abusive piece of shit that finally got access to absolute power. He is not a stern dad, he is abusive. He's not misunderstood, he needed to be stopped and locked away. He is a human being with feelings and motivations, yes, but he is WRONG ABOUT LITERALLY EVERYTHING EVER. He NEVER had a point. Zuko has nothing to learn from him except what NOT to do. That's why he looks like an older, unscarred Zuko. A version of Zuko that never changed.

This is the core issue of the comics, and why it had so many moments of unintentional abuse apologism: they say Ozai is a villain, but they're going out of their way to constantly make the characters come dangerously close to saying "Maybe he had a point." That's why they have Zuko turn to Ozai for advice despite claiming he wants to avoid becoming like him - because the guy writting them couldn't understand that the bad guy was, in fact, bad and in the wrong and has no wisdom to offer to anyone.

Avatar, the series, is about the world moving past from the sick mentality people like Ozai had, and about his son realizing that he did not deserve to be abused. The Avatar Comics are about telling Zuko (and others) "Ozai isn't wrong actually, you'll understand when you're older."

No, Yang, they won't. Because there's nothing to "understand" here other than THE GUY THAT ABUSED HIS CHILDREN AND COMMITED GENOCIDE WAS WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING, YOU DUMBASS!

Saying "the villain had a point" does not make a story better unless it is true - and in Ozai's case, it simply isn't. Insisting otherwise doesn't make the story and characters more mature, it just means you couldn't understand a cartoon aimed at 7-year-olds despite being a grown-ass man.

And I won't even get into Bryke approving of this bullshit otherwise I'll start tearing my hair out in rage at how badly they seem to have lost touch with the message of their best work, so let me just use a simple statemet to make everyone understand just how much of a disaster this is:

Even M. Night Shyamalan didn't misunderstand ATLA to the point of thinking Ozai wasn't actually wrong, but Bryan, Mike and Yang did. The comics understand the show less than M. Night Shyamalan did.

"Good god, why are you so fucking worthless?" Your bosses voice boomed. "Tell me again why I hired you? You can't do anything right!"

Your body freezes up like a deer caught in headlights and your gaze is cast downward towards your feet. Tears instantly obscure your vision and your cheeks grow hot with embarrassment. A couple of your coworkers stifle laughs behind you.

"I-it wasn't me..." Your voice came out as a horrified squeak.

"Then who was it? Who else was in here besides you?" Your bosses voice echoed on the tile walls. "Your hands are literally the same color as the paint!"

You glance at the vulgar graffiti that depicted your raging boss. The discarded spray can lays empty on the ground below it. Your hands are stained in the same color from attempting to scrub off the mess just moments earlier.

There's no use trying to defend yourself as you'd inevitably be blamed once again.

Your boss only sighed at your silence. "Get out of here. Go do anything, just get out of my sight." They spat.

You wash your hands and run from the bathroom and into the back of the store. You slump up against the walls of the dark storage room and cry until your voice gives out. This is the second time this month that you fell victim to another scapegoat.

Just as you finished up sobbing your phone gently buzzed in your pocket. Your heart feels lighter immediately after seeing who was contacting you.

Your boss throws cleaning supplies at you and just narrowly misses hitting you in the head with all purpose cleaner.

"Hope you weren't thinking about clocking out. Your ass is working overtime for that stunt you pulled. Now get to cleaning!" They barked.

"Okay, but..." you gulped in pure fear, "What about the mop?"

"Mops are for good employees that don't make their bosses look bad. Not you. Now go!" They commanded.

Without having to be told again you stuff your hands into a pair of cleaning gloves and fill the bucket up with soap and warm water. In a single second your out the door and down on your knees scrubbing the grimy, cold floor. Your knees and back immediately felt the harshness of it.

One of your coworkers spits their gum out on the floor in front of you.

"Oops! I think you missed a spot." They laugh.

"Of course they would. Can't expect a lot from such a lazy piece of shit." Another coworker chimes in.

Their words linger in the air and you fight back more tears. You couldn't let them see you cry again.

You glance up at them for a moment and notice paint spattered on both their uniforms– it's the same color as the graffiti in the bathroom. Anger mixes with the sadness inside of you as you take a paper towel and throw away the discarded gum.

"Well! We're going home. See you next week, boss!" Both coworkers clock out for the evening and you're left alone once again.

You feel your phone buzz in your pocket again but you don't dare check it. Your boss is hovering over you like a helicopter making sure you're doing as you're commanded. It buzzes one more time before you hear it accidentally fall to the floor beside you.

"Oh? Texting on the job? Let's see... who is 'lil meow meow'?" Your boss teases.

Headlights pull up outside.

"Look! They're calling you! Let's see what they have to say about your prank you pulled on me." Your boss answers your phone and places it up to their ear.

"Hello? This is [Y/N]'s boss." They pause for a moment. "I'm sorry but they won't be able to make it home–"

Despite your best judgement you lunge for your phone and end up knocking the bucket of water across the floor. The suds spill out and fill the cracks and crevices that you've meticulously cleaned over the course of tonight. For a moment, all is quiet.

Your boss breaks out in laughter.

"Do you fucking hate yourself or something? Or do you just love spending time here? Now you have even more shit to clean up!" Their voice booms. "It really is the only thing you're good for!"

The soft ringing of bells catches your bosses attention. "Sorry– we're clo–" they had no time to finish their sentence as Sloane's fist connects with their open mouth.

"It's not okay! You don't deserve to be talked to like that!" They argue, dusting themselves off briefly.

Your boss groans and stands up again. Their nose is dripping with blood.

"You've really done it now." Your boss stumbles for you and grabs your arm. "You worthless, god awful piece of fucking garbage! That's what you are! You're nothing but human garbage!"

Their nails dig into your flesh and you cry out from the pain. With no second thought Sloane kicks your boss square in the gut and sends them flying into a display rack. Fallen items trap them in their position helplessly.

"Don't you fucking talk to [Y/N] like that! You're lucky I don't fucking kill you!" Sloane yells in their native language. "Nobody talks to them like that! Nobody!"

You wrap your arms around their waist and pull them close. "No more yelling, please..." You beg. They take a couple of deep breaths.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to go off like that." They guide you towards the door away from the scene.

"No! Thank you!" You cry, hugging them close and crying. They rub your back comfortingly and rock you gently back and forth.

"Come on, let's get out of here. The foods getting cold." They give you a kiss and open the car door for you.

You nod and buckle your seatbelt.

"If you have anymore trouble please tell me. As long as I'm around I won't let anyone treat you badly. Okay?" They look at you and put the key in the ignition. You simply nod again.

"Alright. Let's go get you cleaned up. You only deserve the best!" They smile.

You feel a deep sense of safety and appreciation in your heart– something you desperately needed after tonight.

"Good thing you're the best, then." You reply.

"Aww, shucks... you're just saying that!" They blush softly from your compliment.

"No, I know so. And thanks again for sticking up for me." You lean over and give them a kiss on the cheek.

"Anything for you! That's a promise!"

You take their hand in yours and watch the street lights fly by in the night.

Reminder that you can be a victim of abuse, mentally unstable, AND a shitty person! I have seen too many posts and too many people in real life that put ALL of the blame on someone's mental conditions and just ignore that people have agency! I've seen so many people pull the "Well, yes, their mental health didn't help, but, what about Y factor that's out of their control?" When you try holding people accountable for their actions! So I'm gonna fight back on that bullshit here and now! So remember!

DO NOT give them infinite chances! Of course, you should give people struggling with trauma or mental issues room to make mistakes so they can learn and grow. But, you can't let them make fuck up after fuck up after fuck up, never try to improve, and not do anything about it! People can only fix themselves, so if they don't WANT to, and only say they will so they can get out of trouble, call them out for it! Give them a piece of your mind, berate them! Cut them off if you have to!

DO NOT expect people they've hurt to forgive them just because they're mentally ill or suffering with trauma! If someone with an undiagnosed Cluster B Personality disorder is an abusive partner for years, and they get therapy and become a healthier, better person, of course many people will forgive them and not be as outraged at them, even if they were the abused in that situation. But you should NOT force that onto others who wouldn't! A person would have every right to still be furious at them for what they did, especially not the victims! They have every right to blame THEM for what they did, and not their inner turmoil.

DO NOT downplay their shitty behavior caused by their mental health! NPD, BPD, ASPD, and adjacent Personality Disorders DO NOT necessarily make someone a bad person! You should not look at someone struggling with any of those issues and assume they have The Mental Illness That Turns You Into a Shitty Person. BUT! When someone is CLEARLY demonstrating toxic and destructive behavior that lines up EXACTLY with what they are diagnosed with, and they are CONSISTANTLY participating in these behaviors, you can't act like it's completely out of their control or not that big a deal! Do not protect them JUST BECAUSE they are mentally ill!

At the end of the day, just because someone is mentally ill, doesn't mean they can't be a shitty person! I had a neglectful and sometimes physically abusive mother with Bipolar Personality Disorder who was also a victim of CSA, and guess what? We have her CHANCE, after CHANCE, after CHANCE, financially supporting her, letting her live with us, LOVING HER, even after EVERYTHING, including almost TORCHING one of her ex-friends! But after long enough, when she ended up in jail on drug charges for the SECOND TIME, you know what happened? WE CUT HER OFF.

One of my first friends here on tumblr suffered from extremely low empathy, speculated to have Narcissistic Personality Disorder by the professionals she was in contact with for short periods of time and herself, and was also SUICIDAL, which I TALKED HER OUT OF COMMITING ONCE. Guess what? She was A-Ok and LAUGHED while being an accessory in spreading completely false accusations of RACISM and PEDOPHILA to onto a MINOR. (Me, who had literally turned 16 like 2 weeks ago at the time of this happening.) Why? She just didn't wanna bother with me or my friends anymore, we gave her a "bad image".

TL;DR, support mentally ill people and people going through tough shit, but don't coddle, woobify, or let them trample on you!

Yeah, don't care. You're still perpetuating harm. It doesn't matter if you acknowledge it's stigmatized. You are still using terms that lump in NPD with abuse and blame it more on the disorder than the abuser. You are using terms that will get misconstrued even if YOU personally know the difference. You continue to use terms that prevent help for narcissists because you personally want to. Just because YOU wouldn't personally take "offense" because a disorder you had would be lumped in with abuse shows you know nothing.

You acknowledge the harm it has, but then boil it down to being hurt/offended. Those terms literally are used to cause harm. You can't look up NPD for legitimate help. It does not matter what YOU PERSONALLY BELIEVE or that you can tell the difference!!! You are aiding harm!!! And you went on this whole defensive rant because of one comment? After loosing his wife (victim) he never let you forget how very fragile you really were. As a fear tactic, he made sure to have pictures of your premature infant body, with tubes and IVs coming out of your tiny decerped form, hanging all over the house.

The stark and down right disturbing images contrasting with the gaudy pink flowery frames he had them hanging up in...

Eventually as you grew up you knew something was wrong with your dad. It wasn't normal how protective he was. Other girls at school didn't have to account for every five minutes they were away from the house.

The most freedom you had was walking to the store to retrieve items and Baji would want you recanting the seconds that went by while you were away.

It was the only time you got to see your boyfriend... He knew your dad was over protective and the pair of you had to steal every second you could together.

Until one day your dad showed up at the store expecting to find you there with no trace of you to be found.

He didn't even warn you just tracked you with the app he had on his phone and found you and that piece of shit holding hands on a bench.

Baji doesn't say anything for a few days, but you know something is up with how quiet he is. Your anxiety only spikes when you don't see your boyfriend at school...

Then your dad has you sit down for 'home movies'. The first five minutes are normal things. Like your old birthdays or school events. Then it gets more and more disturbing.

Video footage of you sleeping, some of you walking home oblivious to the fact that you're being recorded. One of you kissing your boyfriend on the cheek. That's when you knew you were screwed, but your Dad just threw a hand over your shoulder and held you close to him.

"Keep watching, Princess. Papa needs to make a point."

The next video is of you as a baby. You never actually saw footage of yourself as a premature infant and for some odd reason watching the slow rise and fall of that decimated form was so horrifying.

The next image makes you want to puke. Its your mother. Dead. On her hospital bed, cut open from a c section. Its the first and only time you've actually seen her in any form. Papa was too sad to have pictures of her lying about...

"I took that one as a reminder. Of what I did." Baji whispers.

You want to ask him why but can't choke out anything more than a sob as you stare at her face. Her dead lifeless face.

The next video makes you want to scream, but Papa has a bruising grip covering your mouth before you can make a squeal. Its a video of your mom. But she's locked in a basement and trapped. Shackled to the wall covered in a rag. Bruises covering her whole body...

You can hear your father's voice in the background. "I just wanted a fucking picture of our fucking Baby," you can hear him growl, "But you had to go and be a little shit about it like always. I don't want to hear you fucking say you don't want our baby again, Bitch! Do I make myself fucking clear!?"

That video ends and you're hyperventilating. How could he? Your sweet kind over protective Papa? And to hear your Mama, the angel that he always described to you hadn't even wanted to give birth to you... After seeing that how could you blame her?

Papa finally lets go of your mouth and hands you another video. One with your boyfriends name on it.

"Why don't you put it on for Papa, Princess?"

Homelander is great example of how desensitized and normalized actual grooming, trauma, and victim blaming are in society from multiple facets.

Every scene of him with Madelyn is intentionally made creepy and gross in the show, but people ignore this and what is being portrayed in favor of sexualization, even with eerie music or sound designed to make the interactions off-putting and sinister.

With victim blaming, there are as many people willing to blame Homelander for his situation and upbringing as there are people willing to blame Becca for being made a victim because of Homelander. All while ignoring the true root of the problem, society. Or in this case, Vought. And ignoring that sometimes the abused can and do become abusers.

It's a little disheartening because even some with genuine sympathy for Homelander seem to relish in the idea of him suffering further, being de-powered and tortured, or put into the same abusive dynamic if not similar to the one he had with Madelyn Stillwell. But then try and call it healthy, healing, and redemption.

Speaking from experience. Repetition of the trauma that you've been through doesn't help you get out of the place the trauma created. It just reinforces the walls and gives you new trauma.

Tough love isn't real. It's just the excuse people make when they want to be cruel without taking accountability for their actions. You can teach someone to be strong without being an asshole or abusing them.

I actually want one of two endings for the show. Either it's something a bit akin to the comics in which Homelander (in place of comics Noir) likely kills Soldier Boy (in place of comics Homelander), and then is killed by Billy, who's then killed by Hughie (spoilers I guess for those who haven't read them). Likely with the Boys forced to pick up the pieces and continue trying to dismantle Vought.

Or I want to see Homelander lose his shit and completely destroy Vought with no chance of the company recovering, probably because of something Billy does or says. Then disappearing for a while. Maybe being found as a completely different person in the future. Not necessarily redemption, but freedom from his tormentors, including the internalized ones.

But I feel the ending might work best if either both Homelander and Billy Butcher die, in which there is reflection on the hands they'd been dealt in the aftermath of their deaths. Or that they both survive and manage to stop that proverbial hand from dragging further victims into the fold.

When it comes to fandom and fics, I always find it a little odd but as an idea I have yet to see used? I think Vought could be brought down with the evidence of Homelander's upbringing being released to the public. One vial of compound V was enough to stir up a little trouble but nothing they couldn't sweep under the rug.

But with so many skeletons in that proverbial closet, if anyone could convince Homelander that Vought was the true enemy and his abuser. The archives he has access to would bring down Vought faster than the Nazi shit brought Stormfront down. And I do not understand how I haven't seen fandom use this concept. Maybe I haven't searched far enough, fair enough.

But I do find it a little ironic that while knowing and complaining about Vought being the true villain, people still individualize the problem and prefer to go after Homelander in fics. Even the people who claim to love and adore him.

Anyway, just a couple thoughts I wanted to chime in on. I could definitely hope for the survival ending, but I expect the death all around ending and hope at least for the post mortem reflections and maybe revelations of Homelander's past. I do wish fandom could be a little better on some things though.

This might seem crazy. But there is a lot of grandiose self importance and holier than thou attitude that goes around in The Boys fandom. I get that show plays with morality a lot and has people polarized as much as nuanced but Jesus fucking Christ.

And no, Justice is not Vengeance.
