36. Seconds

You know that feeling you get when something that used to be a huge part of your life went missing but then it reappears and it’s like it never left? That feeling can happen with a person as well. It happened with Lee when we tried another go. The feeling has followed Faer back into my life. At least, at first. We talked for a long time after running into him at the very spot where our time together started. I ended up on the Arlandria, drunk off of two swigs of firewater, and sleeping in his bed. It didn’t go further than that, though I can still feel the kisses he gave me.

It took me a long while to come out of the dark fog that had surrounded me in the months after my rescue. I am caught between anger and disillusionment. I am told not to blame myself for the loss of my men, but they were my responsibility and I made the wrong decision and it ended up costing so many lives. Some would say that it stands to reason that the Light has forsaken me. It’s more like I’ve forsaken it. The strength behind the willpower and purpose has been shattered because I failed to protect. I failed those men and women…

I’ve been here before. This is the second time around. It took a long while and two wars to pull myself out of this state of mind. I don’t think I’ll need to use anyone as a crutch like I did Syls. I need time away. Doing something completely different. I need to -be- someone completely different for awhile. I’ll have to talk to Jayyson about this. I can’t just up and leave.

I think I scared Faer with how similar our lives have become. I’ve always thought we were born of the same cloth, but to have experienced so many of the same things and come out in a similar mindset...it -is- kind of scary. This could turn out to be something good for us or the thing that pushes us further apart. I’ve never considered myself an easy person to court. Perhaps keeping this whole thing unlabeled is a good first step. Maybe.

It has been ages since I’ve felt this determined to write. Jayy’s helped me come mostly back to myself. He is more dear to me for that reason than he knows. I still have a reason to fight. The absence of the Light will not stop me from protecting my family.

Nuevo yo, Nueva vida

Capitulo 1:

Todo empezó en Gotham hace 7 años, vivía en un piso pequeño, con mi gato George, no es que me gusten los gatos pero desde que era una cría siempre me seguía, y al final le cogí cariño.

-Mmmmrrrr.- ronroneaba George.

-Olvídate, ya te di de comer hace una hora, además, seguro que estuviste en la calle pidiendo comida.- dije mirándolo.

Yo vivía solo, no tenía problemas pero en parte siento un vacío, de estar con alguien, de compartir mi vida, pero también pensaba en Capucha Roja, no podía ocultarlo y si lo hiciera, me dejaría por miedo.

Pero siempre hay alguien que viene a alegrarme el día, mi sobrina Mar´i, de hecho voy a escribirle a Grayson a ver si tiene planes con su hija:

-Grayson, soy Todd, ¿Tienes planes hoy con tu hija?

-No, de hecho estoy buscando una niñera porque Kory y yo tenemos que ir a una reunión de los titanes, ¿Quieres cuidarla?

-Por supuesto, ¿A qué hora paso para recogerla?

-Cuanto antes mejor.

Cogí mi chaqueta y salí de mi piso, cogí mi moto y me dirigí a la casa de los Grayson, antes Dick y yo no nos llevábamos bien, pero cuando nació Mar´i, fue una especie de milagro, sinceramente ella siempre consigue sacarme una sonrisa cuando estoy mal, y por eso la quiero. Tras un pequeño recorrido llegue a la casa de los Grayson, y ya vi a mi sobrina saltando de alegría, aparque y me dirigí hacia ellos, no he llegado a donde estaban ellos y Mar´i ya se abalanzo sobre mí.

-Tío Jayy, te eche mucho de menos.- dijo Mar´i abrazándome fuertemente.

-Ya lo veo, bueno, ¿Te apetece ir al parque?-

-¡¡Siii!!- dijo dando salto de alegría.

-Cuidado con usar tus poderes en la calle, hija.- dijo Dick dándome su mochila. –Que no vuele, que la última vez nos costó otra mudanza.-

-Descuida, la llevaré en brazos.-

-Pásenlo bien.- dice Kory despidiéndose.

-Adiós mamá, adiós papá.- dice Mar´i

Cogí a Mar´i en brazos y acto seguido me dirigí al parque más cercano.

-Tío Jay, ¿Ya tienes novia?- dijo Mar´i

-No, pero de momento no la necesito porque alguien me robo el corazón… ¿Y sabes quién es?- dije sonriendo.

-¿Quién?-

-Tu.- y le empecé a hacer cosquillas.

Entre su risa y el paseo llegamos al parque en menos de 10 minutos, dejé a Mar´i en el suelo y ella se fue al columpio, mientras que yo me senté en un banco a observarla, pero dirige la vista a una chica, con la piel clarita, pelo castaño, con gafas, llevaba un conjunto bastante casual, su rostro era precioso, quiero hablar con ella, pero si voy yo pensara otra cosa y se iría, ¿Qué pue puedo hacer? Entonces vi que ella paseaba a su perro, un husky, que vio a Mar´i en el columpio… y ya sé que podía hacer, fui a donde estaba Mar´i.

-Mar´i, ves a ese perrito, ¿Por qué no vas a jugar con él?- dije señalando al perro.

-Pero... yo quiero estar en el columpio, que cuando vengo con mis padres siempre está ocupado.- dijo mi sobrina con cara de puchero.

-Si juegas con el perrito, te compro un helado.-dije sonriendo, yo sé que los helados son su debilidad

-De fresa con chocolate.- me volvió a decir acordando un trato.

-Hecho.-

Mar´i salió del columpio y se dirigió al perro para jugar con él, y la chica se dio cuenta al momento, espere unos 10 segundos para dirigirme hacia ella, cuando llegue, me agache y me dirigí a mi sobrina.

-¿Te gusta el perrito?-

-Sí, es muy suave.-

-En todo caso sería una perrita, es hembra.- hablo por primera vez la chica.- ¿Es tu hija?, porque es muy adorable.-

-No, es mi sobrina, Mar´i, yo no tengo hijos.-

-Oh, pues en ese caso me llamo Rose, Rose Chance.

-Jason Todd. ¿Eres nueva en Gotham?-

-Sí, quería venirme a vivir aquí desde muy pequeñita, siempre me ha gustado esta ciudad, ¿Tu cuanto llevas viviendo aquí?-

-Toda mi vida.-

Mire a mi sobrina y me estaba mirando con cara “Quiero mi helado”. Así que cogí a mi sobrina y me dirigí a Rose:

-¿Quieres un helado?- deje invitándola.

-Me encantaría.-

Nos acercamos a una heladería, deje a Mar´i en el suelo y fui a comprar unos helados, un para mi sobrina, otro para Rose y otro para mí. Cuando llegue vi a Rose haciéndole cosquillas a Mar´i.

-Veo que no quieren los helados, entonces los voy a devolver.-

-Nooo- dijeron ambas al unísono.

Se acercaron a mí rápidamente y me quitaron los helados, y nos sentamos en el banco, Mar´i se sentó en el medio.

-Y te volveré a ver?- me pregunto Rose.

-Depende.-

-Pues en ese caso, que me has caído muy bien y tu sobrina me hablo muy bien de ti.- entonces me dio un papel que contiene su número de teléfono.- Llámame.-

Casi soy un salto de alegría, yo pensaba que obtendría su número unos meses después. Es muy difícil conseguir el número de una mujer, me dio su número y me dijo que estaríamos en contacto. Cuando me quede a solas con mi sobrina le pregunte que le dijo exactamente y le dijo mis gustos y mis hobbies, y que ella tiene los mismos, ama los videojuegos, pasar tiempo con los niños y con los animales. A veces hasta pienso que Mar´i me lee la mente. El día paso muy rápido, lleve a mi sobrina a su casa y volví a mi piso donde George ya me estaba mirando, le di de comer, me duche y me senté en el sofá pensando en hablarla o no, quiero hablarle, pero apenas la conozco, no sé si tiene novio o no…

Trama II: Isla Rikers.

Entre los condados de Queens y del Bronx, Estados Unidos, se encuentra una pequeña isla que aloja en sus tierras a la clase de personas a las que ciertamente más les tememos: convictos.

Por múltiples delitos, muchachos de todas las edades ingresan en el recinto de la Isla Rikers, una prisión bastante conocida por sus debidas faltas, pero así bien nombrada por su calidad a la hora de la seguridad.

Calificada como la duodécima prisión con más seguridad en todo el país, tienen a alcanzar sus puertas los convictos que quizá otras cárceles no quieran alojar, o los jueces condenen con bastante odio.

Rikers tiene un título bastante bien criticado, y ha descendido en los últimos años debido a cada falla interna que se lleva a cabo. Muchos de sus mismos trabajadores han sido condenados a residir entre los barrotes en la misma prisión por abuso de su poder.

Algunos de los trabajadores luchan por sacarle brillo a Rikers y brindarle un nuevo nombre, un título o razón para ser conocida y dejar atrás las faltas. Pero hay otros que no tienen interés en esto, por lo que entre los policías y trabajadores se ha generado bastante rivalidad.

En los últimos años, han sucedido prácticamente, tragedias. Convictos asesinados, otros violados, la negligencia... pero aún se lucha por sacar a flote a la prisión.

Convictos.

Kendall Jenner, Tentativa de robo.

Kendall atacó su propia casa luego de ser expulsada, y saqueó hasta el último cajón de cada habitación. Robó toda joya y billete que perteneciera a sus padres, que la descubrieron más tarde debido a que no había forzado la entrada y además había gastado dinero que ellos aseguraban, no poseía. Sus mismos familiares la denunciaron, por lo que ganó seis años tras las rejas. Es una muchacha bastante agresiva y dura, no le gusta recibir ayuda, y además destacablemente asocial.

Kurt Cobain, Agresión agravada.

Tras diferentes discusiones y enfrentamientos, Kurt, padre de familia, perdió el absoluto control sobre sí mismo, y luego de armarse con un cuchillo de cocina, atacó a su esposa Courtney cuando su hija aún estaba en la escuela. La apuñaló repetidas veces, sin embargo, se encargó también de llamar a una ambulancia y conseguir que atendieran rápidamente las heridas de su esposa, que más tarde presentó cargos por parte de su madre al caer en un estado prácticamente de coma vegetativo. Kurt mantiene un comportamiento bastante inusual, destaca entre los convictos debido a su colaboración, por esto mismo lo tratan sus demás compañeros de soplón, y prácticamente lo quieren fuera.

Sarah Urie, Perturbación de la paz pública.

Golpeó a unos cuantos pequeños en un parque, y aterrorizó madres tras un escándalo público que acabó con diez niños menores de edad heridos y cuatro mujeres con lesiones leves. Obtuvo tres años luego de un breve juicio. Su comportamiento es considerado tranquilo, y bastante sociable, la han visto intentando detener diferentes tipos de peleas.

Amy Lee, Secuestro.

La corte le dio a Amy más de veinte años de prisión luego del secuestro de su ex pareja. El conflicto duró alrededor de ocho años e implicó graves lesiones en la víctima de este caso. Tiene un carácter bastante fuerte y más de una vez intentó escapar de la prisión, llevándola a acumular algunos años más en ella.

Harry Styles, Homicidio múltiple.

Terco como ninguno, testarudo y de mal carácter. Suele, por lo general utilizar la fuerza para lograr lo que se propone. Nadie sabe realmente qué es lo que lo ha llevado a prisión, aunque éste ha llegado a la misma alrededor de hace unos cuatro años junto a su mejor amigo, con el cual cumplen una condena perpetua. Su carácter no lo ha ayudado demasiado con esto, por lo cual el tomar justicia por mano propia dentro de la prisión le brindó una serie de cargos más al final de su legajo.

Zayn Malik, Narcotráfico.

Luego de un incidente que lo llevó hace cuatro años al recinto, junto a su mejor amigo y compañero de la misión fallida por la cual se encuentra en el mismo, ha aprendido a controlar sus impulsos y discusiones sin medida, a diferencia del anteriormente mencionado. Zayn ha relatado varias veces a algunos convictos la historia de como el de cabello chocolate y él llegaron al lugar, lastimosamente y por mano de su amigo jamás han podido repetir la historia. De carácter fuerte, se dice que éste ha participado en varias operaciones luego de ser capturado por el servicio militar a causa de estar involucrado en el narcotráfico.

Louis Tomlinson, Negligencia médica.

Louis fue acusado de una mala negligencia médica que no cometió, otorgándole así ocho años en el escalofriante establecimiento. El médico fue privado de su título y licencia luego de que el juez dictara la sentencia, dejando al mismo en la mismísima nada. De buen carácter, solidario y humilde, pues su gran corazón lo ha llevado a hacer horas extras de trabajo solidario en la enfermería de la prisión. Su instinto le llevó más de una vez a lugares desconocidos y entre ellos el peor de todos. La celda número veintiocho, en donde descansaba el monarca de la prisión. O al menos solía hacerlo.

Niall Horan, Homicidio.

Luego de dos años allí dentro Niall había logrado animar los rincones del recinto uniendo cada pedazo de el o al menos intentando hacerlo. El hecho de no callarse la boca ni un momento lo había llevado a situaciones pesadas en más de una ocasión y si aún salía con vida de ellas era a causa de su buen comportamiento. Su charla lograba irritar a más de uno de los convictos, pero éste lograba hacerles frente a los mismos y salir vivo y saltando. Muy pocas veces había recibido una que otra paliza. Alegre, tranquilo y de buen carácter. Pero con una sola palabra de más logra sacar de quicio a cualquiera. Se dice que ha llegado a la prisión luego de conducir ebrio y arrastrar con su auto a un ciclista a lo largo de cuarenta metros.

Emma Roberts, Toma de rehenes.

Emma llegó al establecimiento luego de ser participe de una toma de rehenes en donde su ex pareja fue encargada de entregarla durante la misma., escapándose así con todo lo recaudado. Emma carga consigo un pequeño colgante con un dije con inscripciones, que no han logrado sacarle luego de ingresar. En la sección de mujeres rige con su gran charla para lograr su cometido, no suele ensuciarse las manos, pero logra que los demás lo hagan por ella. Tiene una personalidad tranquila y calma. Es terca y cree llevar la razón en todo momento, lo cual suele meterla en problemas, pero ha sabido con el paso de los años a lidiar con ellos.

Lauren Jauregui, Tenencia de drogas.

Lauren fue a dar hace dos años por tenencia de drogas alucinógenas en su casa. Soltera y sin relación con su familia le fue fácil adaptarse a su destino, aunque no dentro de la prisión. Aprendió a base de golpes y discusiones como sobrevivir a los años que le restaban y hasta el día de hoy logra mantenerse en pie. De buen carácter y reservada. Tiene pequeños problemas con su estabilidad emocional por lo que pasa la mayor parte del tiempo releyendo revistas viejas o en cama, evitando el contacto.

Jayy Von, Prostitución.

La vida nos pone constantemente a prueba, el problema es salir ileso de ella. Para éste no ha sido muy fácil, ya que desde temprana edad ha tenido que tomar fuertes decisiones en su vida. Reside hace dos años luego de una pelea en la calle, tras un episodio de acoso en su zona de confort. Jayy que tiene un pequeño cargo bajo el manto de la prostitución, se comenta que hace no más de cuatro años comenzó a sufrir este tipo de molestias por parte de un cliente, llevándolo así dos años más tarde a concluir el circulo con un homicidio. De buen carácter y algo dócil, cuando las cosas salen mal, muchos acuden al mismo para hablar.

Lana Del Rey, Fraude.

Si se pudiera contar las veces que ha estafado a diferentes personas jamás se llegaría a un número en particular. Su falta de carácter firme la traicionó en una última jugada, llevándola a cargar con el peso de veinte años en prisión por estafa. A raíz de golpes y malos entendidos logró hacerse respetar en la prisión y ocupa actualmente uno de los lugares más altos junto a Emma en la jerarquía de los presidiarios de la zona femenina. En los últimos años moldeó su carácter, asumiendo una postura firme y de no dar brazo a torcer. Es tranquila y cuando hay tiempo libre se encarga de organizar algunos encuentros para los fines de semana.

Lily Collins, Asalto a mano armada.

Aprendió por la fuerza que en la jungla de cemento quien sobrevive es el más grande y si no logras serlo al menos puedes moldear algunos detalles que te llevarán por el mismo camino. Luego de más de veinte ataques a mano armada a lo largo de todo Europa, llegó a América con el motivo de dar en el Museo Nacional de Arte en Washington, sin contar la emboscada que tenía en el mismo. Lily fue condenada a más de treinta años en la prisión americana para mantener lejanía con su país natal y evitar posibles boicots a la misma. De carácter fuerte, pero flexible. Mantiene una pequeña rivalidad con Emma.

Ahren Stringer, Tenencia de armas.

Tras un allanamiento que duró alrededor de cuatro años lograron dar con el paradero del australiano que guardaba y traficaba las mismas. Ahren fue detenido hace aproximadamente dos años y su mal carácter le ha hecho ganar algunos años más en prisión, trasladándose de estado en estado hasta dar con el tétrico establecimiento. De mal carácter y testarudo.

Karla Souza, Robo de identidad.

Fue condenada a tres años de prisión luego de ser capturada tomando la identidad de uno de sus antiguos clientes que formaba parte del banco en que solía trabajar antes de ser despedida en búsqueda de vaciar todas sus cuentas y destruir su chequera prácticamente, además de intentar apropiarse de algunos bienes inmuebles del cliente. Es una mujer bastante seria y respetuosa, mantiene diferentes tipos de intereses y es más que nada, reservada.

Mantenimiento.

Frances Cobain, Policía.

Luego de varios años de investigación, Frances descubrió diferentes hechos que ocultaron a la muchacha desde pequeña con respecto a su padre y madre. Desde entonces no busca más que justicia por mano propia. Abandonó su casa cuando tenía tan sólo quince años en busca de la verdad respecto a la familia Cobain y al obtener la información de la misma, no piensa detenerse hasta hacer pagar a quien lo merece por ello.

Andy Biersack, Vigilancia nocturna.

Andy entró a la prisión en un cargo menor hace años, pero el hecho de contar con un pequeño contacto dentro lo elevó a su lugar actual. Es bastante odiado por el monarca de la prisión, quien al entrar a ella ha recibido un mal trato por parte del mismo. Aunque cuando el de cabellos oscuros tomó un cargo más cercano a los convictos, el de ojos verdes se encargó de devolverle los favores.
