In the more than two decades he’s known you, and for the unknowable number of times he’s thought about it, Osamu has only kissed you once.

And it barely even counted as a kiss, if he’s being honest.

You were eight, while he and Atsumu had just celebrated their ninth birthday—a fact they seldom let you forget, holding the few months age-difference over your head for all that it was worth. It was still early in the autumn, far enough away from winter that the looming threat of the cold hadn’t yet sentenced you to days sequestered indoors; it was the time of year where the morning air was cool, a crisp chill clinging to the edge of the early breeze that lasted longer and ran a little colder with each passing day, but by midday the sun had burned away the bite.

Osamu still remembers it like it was yesterday. Like the memory—like your wound—was still fresh.

How could he possibly forget it, after all, when it had been his fault?

The day had started like any other that found your trio joined together, as you so often were at that age. You’d left your respective houses just after breakfast, meeting up on the street corner halfway between both of your homes. The three of you then went in search of other kids in the neighbourhood who were out to play for the day, but quickly broke off from the group of your peers in favour of adventuring alone.

You and the twins had always preferred your own company, even back then. Maybe even more so than now, as adulthood had taken you on slightly different paths—your shared childhood the road that eventually diverged over the years, parallel though never fully separate.

There’s a tree that grows in the little grove behind the house where the Miya twins grew up—taller now than it was then, though to a child it had seemed larger than life. Hyogo is known for its abundance of pines—fragrant, evergreen, and spindly—but this particular tree is different. Osamu doesn’t fancy himself an arborist my any means, or claim to know enough about trees to identify the species or variety, but he knows he’s always found it beautiful. It stands tall and proud, with leaves that bud and bloom a vibrant green in spring and ink to a deep umber to harken the impending change of season come winter. It has strong, sprawling branches, sturdy roots, and a trunk too thick even for a grown man to wrap his arms around.

A tree perfect for climbing.

At least in the mind of a nine-year-old.

You and Atsumu were competing that fateful day to see who could climb higher among the abundant boughs of the tree while Osamu was seated among the roots at the bottom egging the two of you on. He dug idly into the soft earth beneath him with a big stick he’d found earlier in the afternoon and had been carting around with him ever since—the less impressive branch Atsumu had picked up in response sat discarded beside him, along with the sweaters your respective mothers had forced you to leave the house in that morning when the wind was still chilly, and the backpacks full of snacks they’d sent you with to share amongst yourselves.

Osamu remembers looking up at the leaves that stretched over his head like a canopy—a soft yellow but greenish if the afternoon sunlight hit them in just the right way, still not quite turned for the season. He watched you and Tsumu’s little sneakers climb higher and higher before you disappeared completely from his sight.

Though he could no longer see you, he could still hear you and his brother’s giggles and playful taunts as your voices rose higher in the tree over his head.

And then, without any warning at all, you fell.

In the moment, it all felt like time was moving impossibly slow—wading through the seconds like they were as thick as the sap bubbling up through the cracks running through the bark of the tree—but in reality everything happened so fast.

Osamu remembers the frightening snap of the tree branch under your feet.

He remembers the way he could feel the earth tremble beneath him as your body made impact with the ground a few metres away from where he sat.

He remembers the piercing sound of your scream.

Atsumu was at his side in an instant, his arms and legs covered in little scratches from how quickly he’d made his own descent from the tree. The two twins were frozen, petrified, watching as you writhed on the ground in pain, crying out to anyone and no one all at once.

Osamu looked to his brother beside him, only to find him narrowly holding back tears—Atsumu’s chest was rising and falling quickly as his panting breaths were pulled from his lungs without his permission.

“Tsumu, go and get Ma.”

Even in the wake of his words, his twin didn’t move.

“Atsumu,” Osamu took his brother firmly by the shoulders, nearly knocking their foreheads together in his desperation to get him to act. “I need ya to run as fast as ya can, okay?”

“Okay,” his twin’s response was watery and trembling, but he obeyed: turning on his heel and taking off in the direction of their house as fast as Osamu had ever seen him move in all their shared lifetime.

He turned his attention back to you.

Osamu sliced himself on a rock when he fell to his knees beside you, but he remembers that he didn’t tend to the cut it until much later when the panic had died down. He still has a scar from the incident—a little silvery line on his left knee that reminds him of you each time he sees it.

Reminds him of your face that day, when he’d tried frantically to console you.

“Hey, Tsumu’s gettin’ Ma. It’s gonna be okay,” he said, placing one hand gently on your shoulder as you clutched your arm to your chest, rocking back and forth on the ground as you wailed.

There were tears and snot running down your scraped up face, bits of twigs and leaves and dirt stuck in your hair and to your clothes. You had a little gash on the side of your cheek that dripped scarlet.

He’d never seen you cry this hard in all the time he’d known you--and that was only slightly less time that he’d known his own twin. A few months' worth of age-difference that had separated their birth from yours.

He was scared—you were just a kid, he was just a kid—but he knew you needed him. Osamu swallowed over the thickness rising in his throat and focused on you.

“Where’s it hurt?” he asked. He ignored the quivering in his fingers as he placed his second hand on your shoulder and gingerly pushed you a bit further upright so he could survey you better.

“My arm,” you managed to get the words out, though they were hiccupped through sobs.

His mother always looked him and Atsumu over head to toe when one of them got hurt, so he did the same to you: so, so very gently running his hands over your arms and your legs checking for cuts or bumps or bruises. Save for a few superficial scratches, the worst of it seemed to just be your arm which you kept cradled close to your little body.

Osamu reached up and picked a yellowish green leaf out of your hair. You always wore it in two pigtails back then, but one of them had come undone in the accident, leaving half your hair hanging down around your shoulder. He brushed it back, and then used the edge of his shirtsleeve to rub a bit of dirt and snot off your face.

“Hurts, Samu,” you whimpered.

“I know. Tsumu and Ma will be here soon, ‘kay?”

He didn’t know what else to say. Or do. He just kept thinking of his mom, and what she’d do if it were him or his brother who were hurt. Without thinking, nine-year-old Osamu leaned forward and pressed a kiss to your dirty forehead just like their mother would.

You slumped into his chest, mindful of your injured arm, and he held you. Osamu’s hands trailed up and down your back where he knew you weren’t hurt to soothe you. He’d never held you like this before, wouldn’t have been caught dead being this nice to you in any other circumstance, but in that moment he didn’t question it.

Soon after his Mom and Tsumu showed up—Tsumu crying nearly as much as you were—and you were taken to the hospital in an ambulance where your own parents were there to meet you.

You’d broken your wrist. A clean break, just like the branch that had caused it.

The doctors and the adults all heralded you for how brave you’d been, and Samu even heard his Mom and Aunt talking about it that night once they’d all gotten home from the hospital. He was supposed to sleeping, tucked in and snoring like Tsumu was on the top bunk of their twin beds, but he hadn’t been able to. There was still adrenaline pumping through his veins, a weight in his chest that hadn't yet subsided, and as he sat just outside the kitchen door he heard his Ma say that the fact you hadn’t fainted was a miracle.

He knew you were just too stubborn to pass out.

Atsumu and Osamu were the first ones to sign your plaster cast. You’d held it up proudly at school the next day, a power rangers bandaid over the cut on your cheek. You’d forbidden anyone else from signing it before you’d showed it to them and let them ink their names.

You’d smiled widely when Atsumu asked why, showing off the gap from your missing front tooth that hadn’t yet grown in.

“Since you two helped me!”

Atsumu wrote his name—borderline illegibly—just below your elbow at the top of the cast, complete with messy orange flames to compliment it.

Osamu scrawled his own name right on your wrist in blue. He tried hard to make it neat, even though he normally didn’t care about stuff like that. But he knew his name would be the one you’d see the most because of where he’d put it.

Later, he’d added a little red heart not far from his name, when he could hide it among all the other signatures from your classmates.

So at only eight-years-old, you’d been wearing his heart on your sleeve.

He thinks about that day often.

About how scared he’d been.

How hard you’d cried.

How normal it had felt to hold you when you needed him.

What if that’s the only time he ever got to kiss you? What if that fleeting kiss was the singular instance that his lips would ever meet your skin?

Now, as an adult, Osamu touches you constantly. You do the same to him. That’s normal.

He ruffles your hair, and thinks about pressing a kiss to the top of your head.

He grabs your hand and holds tight when you’re walking through crowds, fingers threading together, and imagines what it might be like to feel his lips brush against your knuckles.

He slumps over your back after a long day at the restaurant and rests his cheek against your shoulder, overcome with the realization that if he’d just turn his face the other way his lips would be against your throat. That he would be able to feel your pulse beat under his tongue.

The two of you are always touching, but it’s a cheap replacement for the way he wants to.

A substitution just enough to tide him over. To sustain but not satisfy.

Osamu watches you from across the party. He eyes the way you drape yourself across Atsumu who’s holding an icepack to his forehead. Your chase through the apartment had concluded when the blonde Miya had accidentally hit his head on an open kitchen cabinet door.

You’d called it karma and then sat him on the couch and gotten him the cold compress from the freezer.

Osamu’s gaze then finds Suna on the other side of Atsumu’s living room, talking to a girl he doesn't recognize. Eying his former high school teammate and current friend, that same bitter resentment from earlier in the evening flares again and he fights to tamper it down as best he's able.

Suna knew what your lips felt like.

What you tasted like.

Osamu’s fist tightens around the empty beer can in his grip, the thin metal threatening to give way to his strength. He’d only brought a 6-pack with him for the evening and he’s drained them all. He's officially run dry.

His grey eyes find you across the room again, just like they always do, when you laugh at something his stupid brother says. Atsumu is smiling too, squeezing your shoulder affectionately.

Yes, Osamu touches you now.

Easily. Casually. Greedily.

But lately he can't help but wonder if it’s enough.

People canonly gossip and comment about kageyama and hinata all the time, like enough to make whole compilations about it on youtube and I've read hq enough times to have favourite instances so top 5 would be

ukai's whole "it's cruel the world kept them apart for this long" spiel I mean, we already know how I feel about this so I'll move on

this one's also something that i couldn't really remove, it's takeda's "chemical reaction" speech, again unparalleled, insane, yes this applies to karasuno as a team too but it's also about kagehina and seriously, y'all, the way this series goes out of it's way to confirm these two are fated soulmates-

3. now we're on more niche ones that i personally am insane about.

This, this right here?? This makes me want to chew on glass and scream into a cave and carve my lungs out with a rusty file. Now there's two readings of this, Kageyama's "we" could be in reference to either Hinata or Karasuno as a whole. Personally, I do think it's both but the text explicitly points us to Hinata so let's talk about how goddamn ridiculous that is because Kageyama's had team issues presumably his entire volleyball career (aka his whole life since he was born chewing on a volleyball) and Hinata was able to gain his trust and have him talk in team terms in less than a couple weeks. Kindaichi here is both reliable observer and an explicit contrast to Kageyama's relationship with Hinata.

(also like the panel after this where kindaichi has complicated feelings about this whole thing because this kageyama is a stranger to him and he's both mourning the person he could've known and the way their relationship turned out and wondering why hinata was able to have this effect on kageyama when he couldn't and kindaichi is just a character of my own heart but that has nothing to do with this so)

4. When Kenma said Kageyama would have no interest in a Hinata that couldn't operate at 100% and KAGEYAMA PROVED HIM WRONG. Kenma's one of the smartest characters in haikyuu. This guy was playing Karasuno like puppets the entire spring tournament match. On top of that, he's also Hinata's best friend which makes him a very reliable source re: kghn commentary and yet, he judges their relationship wrong and it costs Nekoma the match!!! Nekoma lost to Karasuno for the first time because even Kenma with all his knowledge and observation skills misjudged the stubborn trust these two have in each other!!!

5. Hanamaki comparing the quick and by extent Kagehina to a heavenly miracle because i think it just hammers in once again that the very act of these two together is equivalent to some grand cosmic event, something extraordinary, a chemical reaction of the highest order if you will. Nuclear fusion.

10 (Mostly) Spoiler-Free Reasons to Watch Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon 2003 Live Action

A countdown to the 20th anniversary of Act 1 air date!

Reason 3: The side characters!

The love the screenwriter put into building the PGSM main cast - Senshi, Shitennou and Endymion is something to always celebrate as a fan of the series. Still, they are not the only ones who benefited from the live-action writing.

Many recurring side characters in the manga/anime had their characters further fleshed out / altered to have their personalities shine in the show. And even better, instead of being a background character most times, most of them actually have significant contributions to the brilliant storytelling PGSM gives us!

Tsukino Ikuko

Speaking of PGSM humour in part 2 of this series of blog posts, it is impossible for one to not discuss one of the most iconic changes and side characters in the live-action series - Usagi's mom!

In the manga and anime, Tsukino Ikuko is a sweet, caring, and typical mother in a Japanese household, except she has questionable lavender hair...

In the live-action, with the exception that Ikuko is a brunette which is quite a normal hair colour, everything else about her is... well, anything but normal. For lack of a better word, she is... eccentric, and is actually the person responsible for many of the shenanigans that occur in the Tsukino family. After watching PGSM, you can definitely tell from where Usagi inherited some of her traits...

Tsukino Ikuko, the yoga practitioner and creator of questionable omelette sauce, is great fun to watch. Her time on screen is not long, but whenever she appears, she SHINES and steals the show with hilarious antics and an amazing grasp of comedic cues worthy of a professional comedian! Not a minute of her screen time is ever wasted!

Tsukino Shingo

In the manga and anime, Tsukino Shingo is basically a smartass brat who loves butt-heading and teasing his older sister Usagi.

In the live-action, Shingo retains the smartass personality, but not much of a misbehaving brat. Instead, his character is further fleshed out that he is actually intelligent, sarcastic, sassy and... perpetually so done with Usagi and Ikuko.

Seriously, this kid is the responsible AND sensible one in the Tsukino household and the holder of all Tsukino brain cells. It is absolutely glorious and a wonder to see how all the sass could fit into his tiny body!

With Shingo and Ikuko together, any scenes of Usagi's home life is bound to leave you in stitches watching the chaos that goes on within its walls!

For a taste of live-action Tsukino family dynamics, please enjoy the following two scenes:

Present day the actor of little Shingo - Takeshi Naoki is (of course) all grown up, and an acclaimed and prominent stage actor in many musicals and stageplays, especially in the 2.5D world. (Manga/Anime adapted stage productions.)

My Hero Academia The “Ultra” Stage - Iida Tenya

Black Clover the Stage - Yuno (main)

Furuhata Motoki

Motoki in the live-action takes in both roles from the manga and the 90's anime, where not only does he work in the location that doubles as the Senshi's secret base (manga), but he is also Mamoru's best friend from school (90's anime). But otherwise his involvement in the story kinda just ends there.

In PGSM, Motoki's character is more fleshed out in that besides being a pretty face (because let's be honest, Kikawada Masaya is good-looking!), but he also provides some ongoing comic relief for being a huge turtle fanatic.

BUT! He is so much more than just comic relief! His easy-going, kind and caring nature also helps him become a buffer/translator and insight-provider on certain aspects of Mamoru's character for Usagi when it comes to his best friend. He helps Usagi see past Mamoru's tsundere tendencies, getting past the prickly exterior and seeing the caring side of her eventual fated lover.

... And that's not even the main involvement when it comes to our Senshi team. He has a much more significant role late series. But I shall not say more to keep this spoiler-free!

For long-time Tokusatus fans, Motoki's actor Kikawada Masaya has also continued his tenure in Tokusatsu in other well-known franchises:

Kamen Rider The First (film) - Hongo Takeshi (main)

Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger - Master Red

Ultraman Decker - Captain Murahoshi Taiji

Osaka Naru

Across the manga-verse and anime-verse, Osaka Naru is well-known to be a Youma-magnet, rumourmonger extraordinaire, and Usagi's best friend outside of the Senshi team.

In the live-action, Naru continues to play both roles! But her character is a lot more three-dimensional, where she is both sweet and empathetic, but also territorial when it comes to holding her position as Usagi's best friend. So much so, she got bitchy and possessive and caused some teenage drama when she felt her position as Usagi's friend got threatened as Usagi becomes more and more embroiled in the Senshi business. Personally, that was one of my favourite storylines, where it just feels so much more personable and relatable regarding highschool drama and friendship issues. It is one that's close to my heart!

On the other hand, when Usagi encounters adversaries in her school life or love life, Naru is always here as a protector or to cheer Usagi up!

For those who don't now, another fun fact is Naru is played by Sailor Mercury/Mizuno Ami in one of the original Sailor Moon musicals!

The original side characters & villains

There are 2 other original side characters that have recurring appearances and an original villain character that is exclusive to the live-action that I'd love to introduce. (Well, technically there are 2 original villains, but one I'll actually introduce later). But since I said I'll make this mostly spoiler-free, I'll leave them out for now. haha

In my humble opinion, all of them are very well written. They are either there to cause drama - which the live-action has done well to amp up on the angst in the storyline, or there to cause chaos, which frankly is absolutely entertaining and a joy to watch!

And for the record, I especially ADORE the character with the sparkles in the middle. :P

Summary: Remake of the 2006 Bartender. The story of the Sasakura Ryu and Eden Hall, a small cocktail bar in the Chiba area of Tokyo, where troubled customers come for the "glass of the gods," which with Ryu's assistance helps them to resolve their often highly emotional problems.

For the actual ask portion:

Altaïr would probably be annoyed at Uzui at first because he’s so flashy. They’d probably spar and Altaïr would start to respect him after understanding that, underneath all that ‘flashiness’, Uzui is strong and has conviction (side note: Uzui’s three wives makes me think Makio - Maria, Hinatsuru - Adha and Suma - Kadar XD)

Ezio would think of Sanemi as having skills and potential but he won’t like his attitude. AC2!Ezio would definitely butt heads with Sanemi a lot, especially after he sees how Sanemi acts around his younger brother (since he doesn’t know the whole story) and he’d definitely try to act like a nice big brother to Genya, Brotherhood!Ezio and Revelations!Ezio would not be provoked by Sanemi and act more like an older brother/mentor role that Sanemi doesn’t want at all and thinks is super annoying.

Haganezuka would totally like Ratonhnhaké:ton because Ratonhnhaké:ton would take care of any weapon he receives from Haganezuka. Ratonhnhaké:ton will also be willing to listen to Haganezuka talk about swords for houurrrss. Achilles would have to be the one to smack Haganezuka to get out of the homestead after giving Ratonhnhaké:ton his sword. (Why is Achilles there? Idk, crossover???)

All I can think of is Arno getting adopted by the Kamado family. Tanjuro is quite frail and he’s been sick for a while now so their meeting would probably remind Arno of his late father. But, man, just imagine Arno dancing Hinokami Kagura…

Oh god. Enmu would totally fuck with Jacob using his dreams/nightmares. Like, every pain and weakness Jacob has, Enmu would take advantage of it. Worst of all? Jack the Ripper's actions would definitely haunt Jacob till the day he dies so Enmu using Jack in the attack would really hurt. Enmu wasn’t even a good person as a human but considering Jacob’s luck and bad judge of character? Absolutely won’t be surprised if he invites human!Enmu to the Rooks as a ‘doctor’.

I think Bayek has a good chance of taking out Yahaba. Dude got an actual flaming sword in the main story and I’m sure Reda would have a weapon made of Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Ore for some reason and, as long as Bayek understood how Yahaba’s blood demon art works, he’d be fine. Bayek took out giant gods (in the Animus), he can take out this demon.

Oh, Aya would not like Daki at all. She might even be reminded of Cleopatra a bit because of her arrogant and dismissive personality which wouldn’t help the situation. They’d definitely fight and… Aya would probably need help on this one. I’m not sure if she ever got into any Isu BS that ended in a boss fight so I can’t be sure how she would handle fighting Daki and her obi attacks. Human!Daki though? Aya would definitely recruit her and her brother to the Hidden Ones if she found them as kids. But if she saw her as her usual cruel self? Yeah, Aya’s not going to like her.

My AO3 Wrapped

Happy new year for us all, and that 2023 brings us again many good fandoms, fics and friends! <3

I saw some people doing an ao3 wrapped of fics they wrote and things like that, and I decided to make one of recs.

I cannot count how many fics/words I read in 2022, but it was *a lot*. According to my ao3 page, I have 1200 fics in my History, I know I haven’t read them all, some of them I opened and saw it wasn’t for me, some of them I tried reading and didn’t like, but still, those are 1200 fics there.

have bookmarked 120 fics/series just this year.

Here are my top 12, one bookmark for each month of the year:

January:

anteros, punish me (leave me to bleed) by sakutsu - Haikyuu!!

I usually read Hinata centric fics, but this one was something else. It’s a Sakusa Kiyoomi centric fic, and it made me cry. It’s about his understanding and acceptance that he is aro, and how he sees the world. It is beautiful. Have tissues in hand.

February:

In Between by vetiverdreams - MDZS/TGCF crossover

This fic has *promise*. The first chapter alone has Xie Lian’s pov, of him meeting Wei Wuxian, and it’s great. There’s just so much there. I love how they wrote Wei Wuxian, and Hualian both. It’s a wip, but so worth it!

March:

Swaying Close by vetiverdreams - SVSSS

Liushen goodness! This was the year I discovered them, and this fic is just the sweetest!!!!! The fluffiest of fluffs. 5+1 times that LQG thought SQQ was cute. And SQQ was so cute, and the whole story is adorable! I loved the banter they had going on! This is also about SQQ being himself, having some modern attitudes.

April:

By folly or fickle fate by Vrishchika - MDZS @vrishchikawrites

First of all, this fic was written for me by my favourite writer, so need I say more????? Modern Au with cultivation. WWX is a cultivator, and one of the best ones, LWJ is not a cultivator, nor does he know this world exists. And they meet when WWX saves LWJ’s son, a-Yuan from an Abyss. This is so good. If you know Vrishchika, you know her characterization is *good*, and we have absolute BAMF WWX. Amazing!

May:

Burn your Wings by oWhiteKiwibird - BNHA - @crowbird-kamakse

Ohhh, this was also the year I discovered BNHA. And this was one of the first fics I’ve read. Canon divergence, and Izuku actually has his parents quirks (but because of how abused he and his mother were by his father, he doesn’t want to use it). He still gets OFA, and then when he gets to UA things start changing. It’s a beautiful story, it’s sad, and Izuku suffers a lot in the beginning, but there’s so much growth. And his and Todoroki’s relationship is beautiful.

June:

A Secret Never Shared by Vrishchika - MDZS - @vrishchikawrites

This fic should be on the list much earlier than June, because I had the privilege of betaing, and I had read it long before and reread it and loved every word of it. BAMF Wei Wuxian, who ascended instead of dying on the first siege. As always, perfect characterization, WWX is still WWX but also more, because he is a god now, and it changes people. This is a story of those 13 years where he would have been dead in canon. Also, the best a-Yuan.

July:

Hero Class Civil Warfare by RogueDruid - BNHA - @roguedruid

BAMF Izuku!!!!!! On my bookmarks notes I say: “The teachers quickly realize how glad they should be Izuku has always wanted to be a hero.”. UA has an activity they have every year where they divide the hero classes into heroes and villains and they have to compete. Izuku is chosen to be the villain leader, and Bakugou the hero leader. This is a story about how intelligent and smart Izuku is, and how he can be a very good leader.

August:

Bonnie & Klein by surveycorpsjean - BNHA

Where the porn is the plot. Izuku and Bakugou, already pro heroes, are sent 10 years to the future, where they meet their future selves (who are married). The smut is fantastic, but it’s all about the feelings, and about loving yourself, and accepting who you are (in very literal ways sometimes). Super tender, loving and also very hot.

September:

Razzmatazz by xylophones - BNHA - @xyloophones

A love letter to Izuku (is what i’ve written on my bookmarks). This is a story where All Might chose Izuku so much earlier, when he was still a kid, so Inko is also involved. The relationship between them all is wonderful, they are really a family. This is a Izuku who is prepared and well-trained. Wonderful.

October:

Half-Truths by kibosama - Not Me the series

This is a canon divergence fic, where after White decides to take over Black’s life, he leaves home. Things change accordingly, he has to come clean a bit before . SeanWhite is perfect, good communication.

November:

but you’re everywhere (yes you are) by fortunehasgivenup - Kinnporsche - @fairhairedkings

Canon divergent because Porsche remembers the first kiss at the pier, and decides to tell Kinn he does. Everything changes from that conversation forward. Absolutely gorgeous story. Great communication. Porsche stands his ground, and they learn to separate Kinn boss from Kinn boyfriend. I love their relationship very much. Really good communication, I need to say that again. The relationship is very healthy. And the smut is scorching.

December:

Erased Potential by theslytherinpaladin - BNHA

It’s a wip, but there’s over 230k words to read, and it is that good. Izuku knows that being quirkless will make becoming a hero much harder, that’s why he decides (when he’s in middle school) to ask Eraserhead to train him. He does, and things change accordingly. Smart Izuku, Dadzawa (without All Might bashing). Great fic!!!

It was not easy to make this list. So many good fics I’ve read this year!!! Thank you so much to all the authors who put time to write these masterpieces and share with us. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

IwaOi Soulmate AU ✨

(story under the cut)

I’m writing a series of Haikyuu short stories except each one is based on one of those story ideas I keep seeing on here!

I’m new-ish to writing and to Tumblr so excuse any questionable things. Also, feel free to suggest more ideas if you have any (tell me who to credit if possible)!

Soulmates are not an uncommon thing. Every universe has its own version of them, be it the idea that “someday, you’ll meet the one for you”, the red string of fate that connects fated lovers, or in my case, having the first words a person’s soulmate will say to them appear on their skin when they turn 16.

The words would only disappear when you found your soulmate.

I never quite liked the concept of soulmarks and knew from a young age that no matter what mine said, my sister and nephew would tease me about it relentlessly. So when the dreaded day finally came, I wasn’t excited in the least. It didn’t help that I woke up from a mediocre night's sleep to find my family and relatives downstairs with an obnoxious amount of shiny balloons, each reading “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, meandering about the living room, and “fuck you!” imprinted on my arm.

I half-heartedly covered the words with my sister’s concealer and then dodged everyone’s questions as best I could. I may have been an expert in the concealing of unwanted marks via makeup, but some things just can’t be hidden for long.

When I showed up to volleyball practice the next day, I tried to keep my jacket on for as long as possible, and hoped that no one would see my arm. Unfortunately, the coaches didn’t like that.

I tried to explain to them that the girls from my fanclub just really liked our new jackets and could no longer stand to see me in the abomination that was our regular uniforms. Maybe I oversold it a little because my teammates quickly grew suspicious.

“He’s a pompous ass most of the time, but this is too much, even for him!”

“Wait. Wasn’t his birthday a couple days ago?”

“OH SHIT! That’s what he’s trying to hide.”

As one can imagine, these kinds of reactions segued into teasing and a barrage of “fuck you”s from the rest of our teammates who, as I had found out, had very little respect for their captain and resident pretty setter.

Later, even the other teams found out about my soulmark and I found out about theirs. Most notably, Kenma and Kuroo from Nekoma had each other as soulmates, and their marks said some insignificant things from when they met as kids. Bokuto and Akaashi of Fukurodani were also soulmates. Their marks had said “Do you have like… a weird dick or something?” and “No, Bokuto, my penis is perfectly normal.” respectively. Admittedly, theirs were worse than mine. And gave me more questions than answers. But at least theirs were gone now.

After graduating highschool, and leaving behind my teammates, who finally showed some appreciation for me now that I was leaving, my soulmark fell into the back of my mind. The rumors, speculations, and jokes had long since died down. It was for the best since there had been a very uncomfortable time in which girls from my fanclub would come up to me and cuss me out. Each would walk away, dejected upon realizing they were not, in fact, my soulmate.

All that’s to say, the peace was much appreciated. I could focus on volleyball, setting, and college classes. And seducing the odd boy or girl I sat next to in the lecture halls. None of them were my soulmate, but that didn’t stop me from taking them out and having an amazing time.

It had been great.

Until one day in my 3rd year when I was walking down the street. I had my face buried in my phone screen, perusing some piece of volleyball news or another. Cliche as it sounds, I wasn’t looking where I was going, and aggressively slammed into another guy walking the opposite way. The books he was holding fell to the ground, some pages taking considerable damage. Both of us tumbled to the ground as well. I looked up from my dazed state and saw that the person I crashed into was an older boy, college-age maybe, with short, spiky, horrendously unstyled brown hair and a plain sort of appearance, albeit with a substantial build and a very, very pissed off look. I felt compelled to do something about his hair. Brush out the uncontrollable spikes, at least.

He gathered his books, some of which I helped to pick up, and stood to walk away. His jacket caught on one of the buttons on his jeans, lending to a rather disheveled look. Under his breath, he muttered something about being late, followed by a creative string of insults and capped off with a “fuck you!”

I looked down at my arm for confirmation. It was him.

Immediately, I whipped my head around and chased after him, nearly tripping, and grabbed his shoulder. He turned quickly and glared up at me. As I began regretting my decision, I took a closer look at him. He was shorter than me. 5’10, maybe? His eyes were hard-set but pretty, a sort of greenish-brown that would look outright offensive in any other context.

I returned his harsh gaze with one of my own, and used my teeth to pull up the left sleeve of my light-brown sweater. Then, l practically shoved the already-fading letters into his face.

“YOU’RE THE MOTHERFUCKER THAT GAVE ME THE WORST FUCKING SOULMARK EVER! WELL GUESS WHAT? I WILL NEVER LET THIS GO! THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN HAVING THE WORDS “Fuck you!” PERMANENTLY MARKED ON YOUR SKIN! FOR YEARS!”

The other boy's gaze softened a bit and turned into one of amusement rather than annoyance. He removed my arm from its place on his shoulder and rolled up his own sleeve, revealing a dense cluster of fading words, all crammed on there in a too-tight sort of scrawl.

ABOUT. this collab is first edition of my ❝ WHEN MY LOVE ❞ collab series which consists of two parts, when my love wilts and when my love blooms. the latter is a fluff / hurt comfort collab and will be posted in spring 2023 !

THEME. falling is love is beautiful, almost like a haven in a snowstorm. but when things are set to go wrong, nothing could escape the cruel schemes of fate. so, write about a love that was meant to tear apart; a story destined to end in tears, lovers who were fated to walk different paths.

or alternatively, pick from the hundreds of angst prompts you've seen around— or make one of your own— and weave a story that would suffice for all the goodbyes said at once.

ONE. please take a note that this is a two-piece collab so your entries must have a second part, if you're planning to participate in both the editions. if not, you can write standalone pieces. additionally, if you're participating in both the editions, the second part of your fic must be published after the notice for second edition is out. It's so odd to see a comment like this, on a post for a Nendoroid that is only $46. Though, that same Nendoroid Damian Desmond is also 6100 yen on preorder. That is a pretty big price jump.

So i have to wonder why more people commenting to the English Good Smile Company Twitter aren't just preordering from the US Good Smile Company Shop for the lower price---then i remember I'm an idiot who forgot how many other countries speak English. Even if they did preorder from the GSC US Shop, there must be crazy customs/shipping fees.😣💸

Still, aside from a few very popular series being above average Nendoroid price (Spy x Family, Kingdom Hearts), overall Nendoroid prices have seemed around a reasonable $50.

Still, i was shocked to see the prices of Spy x Family and Kingdom Hearts Nendoroids! Over $60 each! I cant imagine the aftermarket prices and markups from preordering at stores outside of GSC.😵‍💫 And it's even more unreasonable after having collected Touken Ranbu and Kantai Collection Nendoroids. TouRabu and KanColle are intricately designed, can even have those presumedly expensive metallic shiny paints (that even Fate Nendoroids skimp on), and in the case of KanColle, can include large, also intricately complex accessories. Those KanColle battleship accessories make $60 reasonable. And yet, there are KanColle much lower priced than that! TouRabu too! Meticulously sculpted and painted sword boys with complex armor and beautiful hair, all much less than $60.

I can only speculate that IPs who know they are popular, are asking for higher licensing fees so they can get a bigger cut. Spy x Family, Kingdom Hearts, and Marvel/MCU are very popular, after all. I'm not into Vtubers or Fate, so i dont know their average prices off the top of my head. (I only have a few Fate Nendoroids from some time ago.) But it seems like only really popular properties are getting Nendoroids priced higher than their design complexity levels warrant.

Still, sometimes i see posts like this, and i feel like some people wont be happy until Nendoroids are as cheap as $15 American action figures for children. I have played with those $15 action figures when I was a kid. They used the same mold for all characters that were even remotely similar, their sculpts were not good, the articulation was clunky, and the painting was terrible. It wasn't until Todd McFarlane started making figures that that entire "American action figure" market was introduced to articulated figures that actually looked good by adult standards. And McFarlane Toys are often around $30. $35-$50 are reasonable prices for the quality and versatility of Nendoroids. I've also seen my fair share of exasperating idiots who argue that Nendoroids are children's toys, and therefore should be cheap...even though there are Nendoroids with their boobs hanging out, wearing BDSM collars, and Nendoroids of Pennywise and A Clockwork Orange. Even just the average modular Nendoroid arm is too small for a child to safely play with! Even adult Nendoroid collectors complain about the difficulty in handling average small Nendoroid parts! Claims that Nendoroids are children's toys, always aggravate the hell out if me!... Regardless, you don't want Nendoroids to be at $15 quality level. Believe me.

Though I just had the thought: Maybe instead of DX versions or extra faceplate sets (as GSC has been doing lately with Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba, Umaru-chan, Non Non Biyori, Attack on Titan), maybe GSC should make stripped down Nendoroids, with separate optional sets, of all the usual accessories, normally included with the current average $50 Nendoroid. Remember the Haikyuu school club jersey version Nendoroids? Those were only $25-$30. They were full Nendoroids, but with no spare faceplates, only 1 extra set of alternate arms, and 2 prop accessories each. They weren't stuck in an awkward seated pose, like Nendoroid Swacchao. They weren't static, non-posable, non-modular, like Nendoroid Co-de. They weren't at shrunken scales, like Nendoroid Petite or Nendoroid Surprise. They were full Nendoroids with less parts FOR ONLY $25. GoodSmile was onto a good idea when they started offering DX version Nendoroids alongside normal version Nendoroids. But the problem is that people dont just want the option to pay $50 instead of $80. They want to pay much MUCH less than $50. And if Nendoroids can come down to $25, then I think a lot of people who complain that Nendoroid prices are too out of reach, could get full Nendoroids. Then when they whenever they have more cash, they could also buy the additional accessories separately. Anyway, I can see GSC trying to make more affordable figures, when they introduced Pop Up Parades as "less than $40" in both their announcements for the figure line and at the top of the product line's webpage's description. Plus, they're introducing figure lines like Swacchao and Nendoroid Surprise, which on first glance seem like "Nendoroids, but cheaper". I feel like they're so close to the answer, but they're just not quite getting it. Just make a whole line like those Haikyuu club jersey versions, or Wooser Hand To Mouth: Nendoroids for $25-$30; and if people can afford more accessories, then they can get them separately, but if they can't, then they can still get a full basic Nendoroid.
