"The only way to make me shut up is to ride my face :). What? Whattt? I'm being corny? I just offered you a premium throne, woman!"
"I love you. I love you so much. I love all of you but especially your bellybutton. It's so cute. Hey, don't call me a weirdo, there's nothing weird about how my tongue fits in your belly button."
"Um. Is it sexual harassment if I ask you to stop wearing clothes around the house? I mean... Studies show that being naked is- what? Do you think I'm making it up?"
"Y/N. Hey don't ignore me. Listen, Y/N. Can I please just get a quickie? I promise I'll come back and eat you out for hours. Please I need this to relieve myself since I've to deal with Satoru for the whole day."
"If you keep pulling on my hair while I eat you out. I'll bite your pussy lips. Then cry, bitch as I make a chew toy out of your pretty little coochie."
"My baby's legs are the best. Especially when they are on my shoulders and stick straight. I can see the entire anatomy of your pussy this way, you naughty baby. I love this view after all."
"D'you think if I grow a stubble it'll make you feel more sensitive down there? Huh? I can't believe you're saying a stubble will make me look hotter. Now I have to grow one for you and your tender pussy."
"We have to go to a nude beach once. No, it's not weird Y/N, please stop saying that! I just want everyone to see us bare and joined together, what's wrong in that?"
"I know the car was full and we have no choice but, if you squirm in my lap any longer, I might have to shoot my cum up into you through my pants like a cannon."
"That's it baby, don't worry the shower glass won't break. I'm holding you. Cum on my dick baby. Cum so hard that you pass out. Ahhh fuckk!"
"Can you send me a nude? Three, if you're feeling it?:) Please, I really need to jack off right now. I got a boner because I was too stressed about the exam. Y/N? Don't leave me on read??!"

"Foggy, Foggy, Foggy, Foggy…"
What the hell is that? Y/N thought as she was pulled out of the best sleep she had gotten in years.
"Foggy, Foggy, Foggy, Foggy…"
She realized that the noise was coming from Matt's nightstand. "Matt, baby, your phone is ringing," she mumbled. "Please make it stop."
"Mmm," Matt sleepily replied, his chest rumbling underneath Y/N's head. "'Kay."
"Foggy, Foggy."
Y/N nuzzled Matt's chest, sighing happily as blessed silence filled the room.
"Foggy, Foggy, Foggy, Foggy…" Matt's phone started up again.
"Shit," Matt muttered.
Y/N raised her head and cracked a bleary eye open as Matt reached towards his nightstand. "It'd better be murder or else I might be committing one," she joked.
Matt chuckled then answered the call. "Yeah, Foggy. No, I'm awake. What's up? Uh huh. Uh huh. Okay. Okay, I'll be there as soon as possible. Yeah. Yeah, I'll tell you about it later. Okay, bye."
He huffed out a laugh as he hung up. "You were right. Emergency client, wrongfully accused of murder. Meeting at the office in an hour."
Y/N stretched luxuriously, pleasantly sore in all the right places. "Mmkay. Gimmie just a minute and I'll get up and get going."
Matt looked torn. "I'm so sorry, sweetheart. This isn't how I planned the morning after our first night together to go. I wanted to treat you right -- wake you up properly, make you breakfast in bed, maybe give you a massage since you like my hands so much…"
Y/N's face heated at both Matt's insinuation and the memory of what exactly he did with those hands the previous night. "It's okay. You can make it up to me later… As long as I get a repeat of last night too."
Matt grinned and gave her a kiss. "Mmm. Deal."
Y/N ogled him shamelessly as he got out of bed. "Shower together? It'll save both time and water. No funny business, I promise."
Matt grinned. "Oh, I think we have time for a little bit of funny business."
Y/N laughed. " Fine , but don't blame me if you're late."
They took a quick shower, (mostly) keeping their hands to themselves, then moved to the sink to brush their teeth before heading back to Matt's bedroom to dress.
Y/N pulled on the outfit she had intended to change into the evening before while Matt put on one of his suits.
Matt came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Mmm, I can smell myself on you," he said, nuzzling her neck. "I kind of like it -- the perfect blend of the two of us."
"Careful, Matt, your caveman is showing," Y/N replied with a laugh, tilting her head to give him better access.
Matt nosed at her pulse point, his stubble scratching deliciously along her skin. "It's intoxicating."
Y/N shivered. If someone's life hadn't literally been on the line... "Matt, honey, you're definitely going to be late if you keep this up because I'm about two seconds away from dragging you back to bed."
"Yeah, okay, good point." Matt gave her a quick kiss on her neck and let go. “We probably should get going.”
They exited Matt's bedroom and headed back into the main area of the apartment.
Y/N grabbed her purse then walked over to the door, where Matt was waiting for her, cane in hand.
"What time is it?" Matt asked.
Y/N checked her phone for the time. "Mmm, 7:33, why?"
"Because I should have time to at least walk you home on my way to the office." Matt held out a hand. "Shall we?"
Y/N took it with a smile. "We shall."
They walked together to Y/N's house, making it quickly down the mostly-empty streets.
Soon they stopped in front of Y/N's door.
Matt smiled. "I'll call you after I get done with this client. Maybe we can grab brunch? Or possibly a late lunch or early dinner, depending on how long this takes."
Y/N smoothed down Matt's tie and gave him a kiss. "Sounds great."
She bit her lip. "By the way, I had a really great time last night."
Matt grinned. "So did I. Looking forward to our re-do."
"Me too." Y/N gave Matt one last kiss. "Okay, Counselor, go help your client."
She unlocked her door and let herself in. As much as she would've loved to just stay in bed with Matt all day, she knew the people of Hell's Kitchen needed him.
She set her purse down then moved to the kitchen to grab a drink before heading upstairs to her office.
She plugged her phone in to charge and powered on her laptop, scrolling through her emails and flagging the ones from repeat clients with new jobs to reply to later before checking her freelancing account for new client requests. She rolled her eyes at the numerous term paper and college admissions essay requests and marked the few remaining as potentials.
She was considering starting on the latest web journal article one of her regulars had requested when her phone rang.
She smiled. "Hi honey, done already?"
"Hey, sweetheart," Matt replied. "No, Foggy and I are on our way to the police station to interview our client, but I just wanted to give you a heads-up that it'll definitely be closer to dinner by the time we hang it up for today."
Y/N could hear Foggy saying something in the background.
Matt chuckled. "Foggy said he'll definitely need a drink or twelve tonight, so we could do dinner at the office and maybe Josie's after?"
"Yeah, that sounds good. Tell Foggy I'm in."
"Will do. So granted nothing else goes sideways… dinner around 7?"
Y/N laughed lightly. "Sure. Want me to pick something up?"
"Yeah, that'd be perfect.  I gotta run for now, but I'll call you back later? We're here."
"Ok, honey. Good luck!"
"Thanks, sweetheart. Bye."
"Bye."
Y/N hung up and stretched. Well, since my day is now free I might as well use it to get a jump on work.
She popped in her earbuds and put some music on, then got busy, managing to knock out most of the projects she had already lined up for the week before she needed to get ready to go.
She chuckled to herself as she marked her final task of the day off of her to-do list, pleased with her accomplishments. Who knew that being happy and in love would do wonders for my productivity?
She, Matt, Foggy, and Karen had wound up settling on Mimi's when Matt had called her earlier to work out dinner details, so Y/N showered and changed then headed out to pick up their food.
"Hi, Y/N. Mr. Murdock working today?" Abby asked when Y/N walked up to the podium.
Y/N nodded. "Yep, the law never sleeps, or however the saying goes."
Abby nodded then retrieved several to-go bags from the counter behind her. "Here's your order. Nonna also included dessert -- she's thinking about expanding the menu and is trying a few new recipes. I think she made panna cotta today."
"Oh, cool. Tell her thanks."
"Oh, and she also said to tell Mr. Murdock thank you for recommending us for that catering gig. That really helped business pick up."
"Will do. Thanks, Abby."
Y/N also stopped by the liquor store to pick up a couple of six packs of beer and bottles of wine before heading to Nelson & Murdock. "Knock knock!" she said as she let herself into the empty reception area.
"We're in here!" Matt called out from the conference room.
Y/N headed down the hall. "I come bearing food."
"And you even brought wine and beer," Foggy said as Y/N entered their conference room and set the bags down.  "Bless you. See Matt, I told you she was a keeper."
Y/N laughed. "Aww gee, thanks, Foggy. That's nice to hear."
Y/N wrapped her arms around Matt, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Hi, honey. Hey Kare."
"Hey, Y/N," Karen replied.
"Hi, sweetheart," Matt said, turning his head to give Y/N a proper kiss on the lips. "Thanks for picking up dinner."
"Yeah, thanks," Foggy added. "We really appreciate it. Today's been a day ."
Y/N shrugged as Karen began to unload the bags. "It's the least I could do for the hardest working legal team in New York. By the way, Mrs. Morelli sends her thanks for the catering recommendation as well as some panna cotta . Abby said she's testing out new desserts to potentially add to the menu."
"I will happily be Mrs. Morelli's culinary guinea pig," Foggy declared. "Everything she makes is excellent."
"100% agreed," Karen added, handing Y/N her food. "Here's yours, Y/N."
Y/N took her to-go container from Karen. "Thanks, Kare. Matt, honey, you want beer or wine?"
"Mmm, I'll take a beer," Matt replied. "Thanks, sweetheart."
Y/N sat next to Matt after pouring herself a glass of wine and handing him a beer. "So, how's the case going?" she asked as they all dug into their dinner.
"Well right now it's not looking too good," Foggy replied. "But we just started going over the files that the previous defense attorney had gathered. Turns out our client's former attorney was arrested on Friday for taking bribes, so let's just say that his files weren't exactly the most detailed or organized."
Y/N grimaced. "Yikes."
"We're basically starting from scratch," Karen added. "There's witnesses to be re-interviewed and discovery to try to track down, not to mention a major backlog of old cases that still need to be input into the new computer software. Plus I wanted to try to get started on updating our filing system tomorrow, but that's definitely not going to happen now."
Y/N took a sip of her wine. "Want some help?"
"Seriously?” Karen replied. “That would be great."
Y/N nodded. "Yeah, I had a really productive day today and don't have any major projects or pressing deadlines at the moment, so I can at least help get started on the data entry and filing stuff while you all focus on this case and whatever else that happens to come up in the meantime."
She grinned. "I mean, as long as Matt and Foggy don't mind the free labor."
"You're hired," Foggy said immediately.
Y/N laughed. "Well okay then."
Foggy shook his head with a grin. "No but really, Matt and I have desperately been needing to hire another office assistant to help Karen, so you wouldn't be interested in actually coming to work for us, would you? I mean we couldn't pay you a lot but I'm sure we can work something out."
Matt nodded. "You know, I was thinking the same thing. Of course I'd never ask you to give up any of your clients, sweetheart, so feel free to say no if you're not interested, but we really could use the extra help."
Y/N bit her lip as she thought for a moment. "You know, business has been steady enough to where I was thinking about taking on fewer one-off clients and just focusing on clients with more regular assignments anyway, so how about I do full-time to start since my schedule's open then drop down to part-time once everything gets organized and you guys get this case under control?"
"That sounds fine to me. Foggy? Karen?"
"Yeah, that sounds great," Foggy added.
"That's super helpful," Karen chimed in.
"Okay, then it's settled. When do you want me to start?"
Matt grinned. "Is tomorrow morning too soon?"
"No, tomorrow's fine."
"Okay, great," Foggy said. "We'll finalize your schedule and everything when you get here."
"Sounds good."
Foggy tapped his hand on the table. "This calls for a toast. I think it's time to open the Jameson."
"I agree," Matt added. "I'll go grab it, be right back."
"Foggy, hon, why don't you go help him?" Karen chimed in as Matt left the room.
"Oh, I'm sure he's got it," Foggy replied.
Y/N bit her lip to keep from laughing as Karen shot Foggy a look. "I think Matt needs some help," Karen said pointedly.
"Oh… Oh, right! Right, I should go help Matt with that." Foggy stood. "Yeah, I'll be right back too."
Karen turned to Y/N as soon as Matt and Foggy were both out of the room. "Ok, so spill."
"Spill what?" Y/N replied innocently.
Karen rolled her eyes playfully. "You know what, missy! You're absolutely glowing and Matt looked more relaxed when he walked into the office this morning than I've seen him in years despite having been called in before 8 am on a Sunday, so something happened."
She gasped and dropped her voice to a whisper. "You two finally slept together, didn't you?"
Y/N grinned even as her face heated. "Now Kare, you know a lady never kisses and tells."
"You did! No wonder you're both in such good moods today."
Y/N huffed out a laugh. "Ok, ok, you got me. I stayed over at Matt's place last night."
"How was it?"
Y/N grinned slyly. "Which time?"
"Which time -- How many were there?"
"Well, there was the first time, which was perfect -- it was soft, and slow, and just… Well, 'earth-shattering' is really the only way I can describe it . There was a second time -- in the shower, I might add -- which was also amazing, then later on there was a third time, which… well, honestly probably ties with the first round as the best sex of my life." Y/N's face heated at the memory. After dinner Matt had made her fall apart twice on his fingers and tongue before making love to her again. "I tell you, Kare, the things that man can do with his hands and mouth… Not just good for arguing cases. Mmph."
Matt was by far the most generous and caring lover Y/N had ever had. Sex with Colin had mostly consisted of making sure that Colin's needs were met and had almost always left Y/N unsatisfied; on the other hand, sex with Matt, however limited it was so far in Y/N's experience, had been very satisfying. Not only did Matt make sure Y/N's needs were fulfilled (and multiple times at that) before his own, but he also seemed to instinctively know exactly what Y/N needed without any guidance.
Karen winced. "Oh, shit, so Foggy's call this morning then…"
Y/N shook her head. "We were still sleeping and even if we hadn't been someone's life is literally on the line, so it's totally okay."
She grinned. "Besides, Matt promised me a re-do."
Karen laughed. "You go, girl."
Y/N took a sip of her wine. "So since we're talking about really great sex, what about Foggy? I bet he's no slouch between the sheets either."
Karen grinned. "Not at all. Let me just say that his mouth also isn't only good for arguing cases."
Y/N raised her glass of wine. "To Nelson and Murdock, aces in both the courtroom and in the bedroom."
Karen laughed and clinked her beer bottle against it. "Cheers to that."
"Hey, ladies, what are we toasting to?" Foggy asked as he and Matt returned with a bottle of whiskey and 4 glasses.
"Oh, just to another job well done," Karen said.
Y/N snorted out a laugh before turning towards Matt.
She frowned. "Matt, honey, are you feeling okay? Your face is really red."
Matt shook his head. "What? Oh, uh, I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
Matt nodded as he set the bottle of whiskey he was carrying down on the table and sat. "Yep. Just a bit warm in here, that's all. I'll be fine in a minute."
"Okay, if you're sure."
"Mmhmm."
Y/N gave Matt another quizzical look before turning back to Karen. I hope he's not coming down with something. "Yeah, Kare, wow, very interesting story about that case. Impressive. Good job, all of you."
"Anyway, time to celebrate," Matt jumped in, opening the bottle of scotch and pouring them each a glass. "To the newest official employee of Nelson and Murdock -- welcome to the team, Y/N. Glad to have you join us."
"Thank you, thank you," Y/N said as they all clinked their glasses together. "Happy to be here."
The four of them finished dinner and moved on to dessert, all agreeing that Mrs. Morelli's panna cotta was the best thing they had ever eaten.
"Alright, I think I'm gonna call it a night," Y/N said after they had finished all of the beer and wine and half of the bottle of Jameson. "I can't do Josie's on top of all this, especially if I have to function in the morning."
Matt nodded. "I'll walk you home, sweetheart. We have a lot of work to do tomorrow, so I'm gonna call it too."
Karen stood and began to clean up. "Yeah, same. I'm exhausted."
"Me too," Foggy agreed. "Thanks again for picking up dinner and drinks, Y/N."
Y/N gave a shrug. "No problem. Glad to help in any way I can."
They quickly cleaned up and headed out, Karen locking the door behind them. "See you two tomorrow," she said.
"See you tomorrow," Y/N agreed.
"Good night," Foggy added.
"'Night," Matt added.
Y/N took Matt's hand as they made the familiar trek to her house, Matt not even bothering with his cane since he had Y/N to guide him.
"You're sure it's okay if I come to work for you?" Y/N asked as they walked. "I really don't mind just helping out temporarily until everything gets organized or you guys hire someone else."
Matt nodded. "Honestly, sweetheart, I'm thrilled that you'll be an official member of the Nelson and Murdock team. Not only do I really appreciate the extra help but it'll be great to be able to see you more often, even if we'll both be working."
He paused. "Unless you've changed your mind?"
Y/N shook her head. "No, of course not, I'm just thinking… How are we going to handle our personal relationship while at the office? I know Karen works for you guys and she and Foggy are dating, but they got together way after you hired her. You literally just gave your girlfriend a job."
"Technically, Foggy gave my girlfriend a job. I just agreed to it."
Y/N playfully tapped him on the arm with her free hand. "You know what I mean."
Matt chuckled. "Yeah, I do. We're a private firm, so there's no rule against nepotism, and either way, it's not like we hired you solely because you're my girlfriend. You're more than qualified for the position. Besides, now that you're an official employee of the firm I can discuss cases openly with you, including our latest. You might have some insight that the rest of us haven't thought of."
He bit his lip. "By the way, thank you again for being so understanding about this morning."
Y/N shook her head. "Seriously, it's not a big deal. What you do is important and I can handle having the morning after date night interrupted on occasion if it means possibly saving a client's life."
Matt gave her hand a squeeze. "I still want to make it up to you as soon as I can."
They paused outside Y/N's front door.
Y/N grinned. "You know, I'd invite you in but I'm starting a new job tomorrow and I really want to impress my bosses -- well, one of them, anyway. You see, he's this badass lawyer who really cares about helping people in need, and he's smart, and caring, and kind, and very handsome, and he looks great in a business suit…" Y/N trailed a finger down the lapel of Matt's suit. "Looks just as good out of it too, or so I hear. Hell of a good kisser and fantastic in bed, knows exactly how to please a woman."
Matt smirked even as his cheeks turned pink. "Oh really now?"
"Mmhmm." Y/N then reached up and traced the sides of Matt's glasses. "Oh, and he wears these red tinted glasses, which actually kinda give him this sexy air of mystery in addition to just being really cool."
Matt huffed out a laugh and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Sexy, huh?"
Y/N nodded. "Oh yeah. Very sexy."
"Kinda sounds like you're into him. Should I be jealous?"
Y/N pretended to think. "Nah, he already has a girlfriend and seems to be pretty devoted to her. Besides, who needs him when I have a smart, caring, kind, and incredibly hot and sexy boyfriend of my own to whom I'm 100% devoted?"
Matt laughed. "You know, maybe I should walk you to work anyway. Show this new boss of yours that you're spoken for, just in case."
God, Y/N loved him. "Yeah, okay, if you insist . But didn't you tell me that you just hired a new office assistant? Maybe it's me who should be jealous."
Matt pretended to think. "Hmm… well, my new office assistant is very patient, and understanding, and kind, and caring, and she's also beautiful both inside and out… but I'm pretty sure she has a boyfriend."
"Aww, gee, well that's too bad."
Matt shook his head. "Wouldn't matter anyway since I have a patient and understanding and kind and caring and very beautiful girlfriend of my own to whom I'm 100% devoted."
Y/N grinned. "Lucky girl."
Matt shook his head. "I'm definitely the lucky one."
Y/N's face heated. "Matt…"
Matt gave her a kiss on her forehead. "I'll be by around 8:30 tomorrow morning?"
"Sounds great." Y/N tilted her face up and gave Matt a slow and tender kiss. "Good night, honey."
She bit her tongue to keep from adding I love you . As much as she felt it, this wasn't the right moment to say it for the first time.
Matt nuzzled her nose with his before giving her one last peck. "Night, sweetheart. See you in the morning."
Y/N headed in and closed and locked the door behind her. Life can't get much better than this.

Jalim Ghost town au
just me trying to understand and sort of flesh out the idea
Zain is dead, a ghost.
Jason gets shot a d dies for approximately 7 minutes.
Zain doesn't like Jason, but he can see him. Jason isn't fond of him either. But he won't go away.
Says he needs help. But Jason doesn't give him the time of day and tries to go about his business.
Eventually he gets to him.
"WHAT?!"
"It's my Baba."
In which Zain tells him how when he died his father lost the light in his eyes, lost his passion for life. He was his everything.
"So how'd you die?"
"Quickly." Was Zain's short answer.
"Alright, you're lucky I got a soft spot for kids."
"I'm Not a KID!" Jason only gave him raised brows.
"What do you want me to do about it? Your father, I mean."
And Zain sits down beside him.
"I don't know.... I just want him to be happy. That's all I wanted. I can't help him. All I can do is watch as he dies more and more each day."
Jason was tempted to throw an arm around the kid, comfort him in some way, but then again he'd just go right through him.
"I'll see what I can do but no promises ok?" And Zain lit up.
The next day.
"Alright kid. Where does he live? What's he look like?"
"Badra-Mandali! His name is Salim."
"Othman I'm assuming."
"Yes! He's your height, maybe a little taller. Black hair, dark brown eyes, a soft lovable face, pinchable cheeks, perfect hugger."
"Alright alright kid, I'm not gonna go around and start pinching cheeks and hugging every man I see."
"Not every man, just my Father. "
"He grows pumpkins..... He's let them die since then."
"should I ask around?"
"Wait what am I doing I can just show you. Follow me."
Jason watched as Zain comfortably walked out in front of him. Jason shifting his gaze to each person he passed.
"we're here."
"Now...what?"
"Knock I guess."
"And tell him what, that his dead son wants him to get a life?"
"Figure something out." Zain hissed.
So opens the door Salim looking tired and grey somehow.
Well, here goes nothing.
"Hey, I'm Jason." He starts awkwardly while Salim just gives him an odd look.
"I'm new."
"You just moved in?"
"Yeah." Jason answered lamely.
"You just moved in?"
"Uh, yes? What's the deal?"
"You're an American soldier."
"Marines. Is that a problem?" Jason started to puff up.
"Actually honorably discharged, took a bullet a few months back and I just haven't been the same." Christ! Why did i say that?
There was a silence for a moment.
"Come in, Jason."
"You like coffee?" Salim said already filling the water, and Jason saw Zain sit down at the table.
"Yes please, and thank you. I'll be honest I was a bit nervous to introduce myself."
"And why is that?" Salim hadn't looked over at Jason but Zain did with narrowed eyes.
"I didn't bring a pie."
And to everyones surprise Salim laughed.
Coffees now in hand they drank quietly, Salim looking only fairly less miserable.
"Well I thank ye kindly for the hospitality." Jason stepped out side, putting on an exaggerated cowboy accent. Thumbs in his belt before tipping his hat to Salim.
"I am sorry for not being a very sociable host, I haven't been feeling well." Salim leaned against the door and Jason's smile dropped.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Jason said with a rasp of emotion in his voice, knowing full well what Salim was talking about. The kid was standing right behind him.
"Although it may not have seemed like it, I did enjoy your company. Perhaps sometime soon you can bring over that pie and we can drink coffee again, neighbor."
"Right. Well thank you again, hope you feel better soon. Goodnight."
"It's barely past noon, Jason."
"Uh, yeah, well it'll be night at some point today." And Salim chuckled again at Jason.
"Goodnight then, cowboy."
"Fuck!" Jason cursed when he walked away enough.
"To which part?" Zain said beside him.
"I told him I live here."
"So I heard, tell me which one Is yours?" Zain mocked trying to find Jason's house.
"That's not funny. What am I gonna do?"
"You could you know."
"Could what?"
"Live here, there are plenty of free houses. That one right there looks good."
"Yeah right, Im Not about to go house hunting with some kid."
"It's only a few houses down from Baba's, you'd be close enough to keep an eye on him."
"It's a No, kid. Drop it."
"I'm worried about him."
"Yeah I've heard." Jason scoffed.
"I think he's trying to kill himself. " and that stopped Jason in his tracks.
"What do you mean?"
"The only time he doesn't have that lifeless look in his eyes is when he sees something that could end it..... Jason, I don't want to watch him do that." And there where tears rolling down his cheeks.
"Fuck. Come here kid." He opened his arms and Zain rushed into and through them.
"Shit! Sorry, forgot." Jason grunted after sneezing.
"I hate this. I hate being dead. It's not fair! He doesn't deserve this!" Zain screamed.
"And what about you?"
"This isn't about me, it's about my Baba. So are you going to help him or what?!" There was fire in Zain's eyes.
"Yeah Kid. I'm going to help your Father. You said this one was good?" Jason pointed walking over to the empty house.
"How are you going to pay for it?" Zain sniffed, collecting himself.
"I got a fair bit of cash after my discharge, I can afford it."
So Jason moves in the next day after settling on a price with he seller, he doesn't have much but two boxes to move, and a cot.
"Hey man are you sure about this?"
"It's a bit late now, Nick. Already bought the place." Jason huffed struggling with one of the boxes before Nick took it from him.
"Thanks."
"Are you going to be ok by yourself I mean?"
"I ain't by myself." And Nick tilted his head in question.
Shit! Right, Nick can't see him.
"I've always got you don't I?"
"Always, semper Fi."
"Semper Fi.... Plus I met one of my new neighbors yesterday, nice guy."
"I'll leave yo to then. I gotta get back to camp." Nick threw a thumb over his shoulder.
"I get you. Go on then. And thanks for the help moving. "
"Lucky me you don't own a couch."
They waved and Jason turned back to his new home with a chuckle in his lips.
"That your friend?"
"What's it to ya?"
"He seems nice, I like him."
"So it's just me you don't like?" Jason piped only half serious.
"Is this really all your stuff?" Zain asked looking at the small pile of things by the door.
"Everything I own here. Guess since I'll be staying awhile might as well build it up some." He said rummaging through a box.
"You don't have any food or cooking supplies." Zain mentioned walking around.
"I've got a few days of food right here, should be enough until I get something for the kitchen."
"Like a pie?" Zain smirked at him.
"I'll have you know my mom and her mom and I'm assuming her mom before that all cooked our famous Kolchek Pie for friends and neighbors." Jason pointed a finger at the ghost.
"Famous how?"
"Locally, but I'll have you know that pie has won blue ribbons at every fair it's entered, even made the front page on the paper." Jason lifted his chin to him.
"Slow news day."
"Oh fuck off!"
"So are you going to make it for my father?"
"What?"
"The pie, are you going to make it for him like you said you would?" Zain rolled his eyes.
Jason only glared at the boy before putting his few belongings away.
That night there was a knock at his door.
"Zain, who is it?" Jason whispered out.
"I don't know, open the door a find out yourself." Zain snarked for all the teenager he was.
When he open the door it was Salim standing in the lamp light.
"Salim?"
"Oh, Jason."
"What are you doing here?"
"I made us something to eat, for dinner, to celebrate your new home!" Salim held out a pot he was holding with one kitchen glove and a rag.
"I don't have any silverware, or bowls." Jason said blankly.
"Ah, I could bring some for you to borrow..... Can I come in?"
"Shit, yes, sorry, come in." Jason stepped aside and held the door open for Salim.
"I'll be right back, my friend." Salim said after putting the pot down.
"Your dad, he a good cook?" jason eyed the pot.
"The best." Zain wanted to growl
"I'll take your word for it then."
Salim came back with his arms full.
"Two cups, two forks, two spoons, bowls, plates. I trust they'll be well cared for?"
"On my honor." Jason held a hand over his heart and a hand in the air.
"That a Marine thing?"
"Sort of, it's more a me thing though."
"On your honor then." Salim eyed, before setting up the table.
"I gotta tell ya Salim, this is a lot better than the meal I had planned." Jason said happily as he ate.
"Which was?"
"Let me see " he leaned over to grab a flat box.
"This says chili Mac, and I've got a dry cracker."
"You were really going to eat that?"
"It's all I got for now. Then there you come like and Angel sent from heaven with your hands full of this delicious stew." Jason chirped giving a grin and a friendly wink.
"It's made from the last of my pumpkin harvest." Salim seemed to look through his spoon.
"Best damn pumpkin I've ever had, and that's sayin something."
"Why's that?"
"Not sure If you could tell, but I grew up in a small town of house wives and farmers. Too much time and too much food."
"I never would have guessed!" Salim laughed.
"It's true! And we had fairs a plenty! Nobody wanted their blue ribbons like us Kolcheks, and nobody had as many either!"
Notes:
(Jason's own father had hung himself when he was a teen, he never knew why, never thought that his father was unhappy. That's why when Zain said he was worried about Salim it changed his mind about helping. Jason was the one to find his father, he doesn't want the same thing to happen to Zain, he's just a kid after all.
Also Jason accidentally breaks Salim's plate and he is freaking out about it. He shows up at Salim's door, shoulders sagging and he's low. The broken plate on his bloody hands. He's sobbing about being sorry he broke it, it was an accident, if he could fix it or buy him ten knew plates. Salim at this point doesn't care and is worried about Jason's bleeding hands. Pulls him inside and asks what happened. Jason says he was washing them when his side starting hurting sending him to the floor in pain, out of breath and being unable to see for a moment. When the pain lessened the plate was broken at his hand were all cut up.
Jason is also worried he'll see the ghost of the girl he and Nicky shot, about how the next time a situation like that happened he hesitated, the part of camp slayer was bombed and more showed up to shoot. People died and Jason got shot. He didn't make the right call twice now both times lives were lost needlessly, this is something he tells Salim far later into the story. Jason doesn't sleep well at all.
Eventually Zain shares why he thinks he may have deserved to die, how he was a bad son. How his father gave him everything, loved him more than anything, was proud and caring and how Zain still managed to fuck things up. How he would steal. He's not sure why he does it and that it could cause real problems for him and his father if he's caught. How for some reason he wanted to be as far away from his father as he could, just because he would get into arguments over him stealing. He didn't mean it. Zain cries when telling this to Jason. He misses being alive, being with his father.
Not sure how Zain died though.
Salim gets better and Jason is falling HARD for Salim. And it scares him. Something happens, Jason is pushing Salim away, you know, some angst, zain isn't happy about that.
Angst happens Jason dies, he's saved, he bakes a pie once recovered and knocks on Salim's door with it in hand.
"Howdy, Neighbor. I baked you a pie." )
Anyway that's what I got so far for the idea. I finally got to watch Ghost Town again, so. Yeah.

i just read about what happened to you on that post about nurses and doctors not doing their job right and... ahh I'm crying it's horrible I'm so so so sorry :( i know maybe you don't want this from a stranger but it really hurts to see an person get wronged like that with such horrible results... i sincerely wish you the best
Aww, anon, your kindness is very much appreciated. It'll be 12 years since that happened this coming summer. I was 18 and had just graduated high school. There was a lot I had planned that I never got to do, never got to accomplish. I spent many years of my life angry, resentful, filled with an overwhelming sorrow that I channeled into rage because I didn't have the bandwidth to deal with all those complicated emotions because I was busy learning how to walk over and over and over again. I was surviving, clawing at life with all the stubbornness I could muster. There was a time when I was promised that I would "go back to how it was." But as the years passed, it became increasingly obvious that wouldn't never be the case.
I was very fortunate to have an incredible therapist as well as a surgeon who felt protective of me and thus did everything in his power to fix what had been originally done to me. I worked hard, I learned to let go, to thank the old coping mechanisms for getting me through the true worst of it, and to welcome in new ones in order to move forward. I learned how to live again. Oh and what a messy process that was, but I did it. I needed to or I knew I would not keep going.
I'm going to be 30 years old in April. When I tell you I never ever thought I would make it to that birthday, I need you to believe me. I thought my body would quit on me, and in truth, it almost did multiple times. But I am here. I am living in a beautiful area where it's quiet, and the wind through the trees carries with it the sound of horses and chickens from the farm just across the wash behind my home. There are barn cats who I've befriended and cardinals who nest in the oak tree in my yard. I am creating art for others and for myself; something I thought was robbed from me when I first became disabled because I could not sit to draw or paint. I have good friends who understand and family who love me and support me.
I still struggle. My pain is never-ending. There are times when I get frustrated, of course. But I am happy. I fought very hard to be happy. Life is filled with hope and joy, and there is so much to live for. And damn it all, if I'm not going to make sure I live to see each day because even if I have a bad day, there's always tomorrow. And who knows, maybe tomorrow I get to paint something I really love or eat a new food that will be my new favorite or stumble across a new book or game that I feel like was meant for me.
I hope you have joy in your life too, Anon! We all deserve to have it.

Rules Of One's Soul Ch25 Ball
(Hey everyone. I just wanted to thank everyone who read this far and liked my story enough to read it to it's end. I had a lot of fun writing it and it makes me happy knowing some people loved it enough to read it fully. if you liked this consider checking out my other works. Thanks to everyone for reading this, adding it, or leaving a nice comment. And thank you to Toby Fox for creating such wonderful characters for us all.)
Tumblr media
It was...just as they promised.
Rouxls took the last day off, with supervision of course. After that little scare both Seam and Jevil insisted that he stayed right there with them so they could keep an eye on him incase anything happened. So, Seam (forced him to sleep in) offered Rouxls his bed for the night, and he at first refused, but he was too mentally exhausted to argue for too long. So he took his offer, and fell fast asleep. Probably one of the most peaceful nights he had. He slept in rather late as well, because when he woke up he saw the blurry vision of Seam STILL sewing the black cloak he had been working on for a while now and Mak passed out lightly snoring on the couch, still wearing the small purple suit but now it was wrinkled in their sleep.
"So you're awake I see" Seam said with a smile, not even looking up from his sewing. ''I hope you slept well."
The worm groaned and reached up a blue hand run through his messy shiny hair. Slowly sitting up and looking to the cat with a tired grin. "...Yes. Thank thee." The blankets were tossed over, and his legs swung off the bed, And he slowly stood to his feet. Slowly stretching out his dark blue body and still Seam didn't look at him when Rouxls looked in his direction. "And howest didst thou sleep?"
"I slept rather well, thank you. But you must've been more tired than myself as you slept in rather late today, it's almost afternoon." Rouxls ground and reached to grab for his suit coat hung up on the bed post. Seam busying himself by doublechecking the stitching he had just done, bringing the black cloak up to his one good eye to peer at it. He was almost finished really, he just wanted to double check on everything before he decided to wear it. "So when does this celebration start if I may ask?"
Rouxls had just finished buttoning his coat shirt and sighed. "Tomorrow afternoon at five o'clock sharp. I musteth leave tomorrow to make sure all are according to plan-"
"After you're break today. You did promise us you would take time off today after all, and it would be rather rude to go back on your promise."
The worm paused what he was doing and despite him wanting to go and deal with the nonsense and chaos coming to prepare for the ball..He sighed in defeat. "Very well. Thoust shall havest mine word on it, but has thou been up to now?" He finally turned to the duke, who was currently running his hands through his head to try and tame his wild bed head but nodded to the cloak in his paws. "Thou haseth been working on that clothing for a longe time. What ever tis it for?"
"Oh this?" He held up the cloak and the duke nodded. "Oh, it's just an old coat I plan on wearing tomorrow on our little outing. It just needed some fixing from all these years, but it'll do in a pinch. But that also begs another question, what do you plan on doing until tomorrow afternoon?"
"I shallst keep to mineself and reopening mine shoppe for today." A smile came over the duke's features and he chuckled. "Who knowest how many Darkners forgotten to gettest their special someone something last minute.~ Mine profits and funds shall rise substantially."
He hummed and went back to sewing his cloak again. "I see. Are you planning on doing that for the entire time you're waiting?''
"...N-Nay. I'm also going to best thinking about f-future events, and ..a-and what wouldst be best for mineself and Lancer."
"And have you decided yet?"
A pause...And he heard footsteps walk past him and glanced up to see Rouxls stand in the doorway but smiled and looked back to him. "N-Not yet. B-But I havest plenty of time to thinkest it over. A-And perhaps a new speculation on mine life is just what I needed for a long time."
Seam chuckled again. "I suppose we could all use a fresh start every so often, but I want you to know duke. I'll support your descicion whichever you decide."
Rouxls smiled wider. "Thank thee. I shall seest myself out. I shall pick thee up by four thirty sharp tomorrow."
"Just be sure to be ready by that time tomorrow. I'll be expecting you, Mr. Kaard.~"
It seemed the whole day and a half of waiting for the two went by in a blink of an eye. He wasn't sure what Rouxls was doing within that time frame, but for him he was quite busy. More busy than he has been in a while. It took most of the rest of that day to finish sewing up the cloak back to it's former glory and it...it still smelt musty so into the wash it would go. Mak woke up not too long after Rouxls left and awakened with a snort and looked up at him. "Breakfast time??" He chuckled and offered to trade a giant diamond to wash the suit they were wearing and they happily agreed seeing the baseball sized diamond in his paw. Ok. So he got the laundry to go, what else could he do to prepare? ...Well what else to do but do what he usually did to pass the time in his life, he opened his sheap for a limited time this day. So he took down the closed sigh from his flap, gave Mak some food they gobbled down, and sat down at his usually spot behind the counter and waited. It didn't too long for three panicked Rudinns to come scurrying in and frantically looking around for anything they could grab for...the holiday he guessed, and came up to the counter. Each having a small bag of dark candy and one also grabbing a can of food along with it and the three threw money at him before slithering off just as fast away from the sheap....Well. If this is certainly how Rouxls said it would be, things just might be a bit more busy around here in the next few hours. AT least that's what he thought as his paws calmly went and picked up all the darke dollars thrown at him and he got up to pick up the few that fell onto the floor. Yep. It was looking to be a profittable time. And he wasn't wrong. Throughout the one day alone more darkners, mostly Rudinns with the occasional hathy or club, would make their way in and look around for what exactly they needed before exiting just as quickly with what they wanted. Most of it was tiny bags of dark candy, but their was also the occasional darkburger, tea mix, and at one point he even finally sold his spooky sword to a hathy. She said something about her husband always liking edgy looking things. Whatever the heck 'edgy' meant. But it wasn't over crowding, the most everyone would be in there was maybe four or five at a time and they'd leave just as quickly. Mak certainly wasn't enjoying the big crowd and just stayed in the back while occasionally poking their head out to ask a few questions.
"When's Jevil coming back?" "Lunch time now?" "Is my suit done yet?" "Where's my crayons?"
He chuckled and sat there and did what he normally did, meditate the hours away until someone else dashed in and he'd watch them scramble, buy, then leave then start his whole process again. The hours ticked passed and when a small period went without anyone, so he thought it'd be a good time to close up shop. He just got done sealing the flap of the sheap with the closed sigh hanging up, when he heard the familiar sounds of Mak's maniac laughter which could only mean one thing. He smiled as he walked back into his home and sure enough the sight of a very tired Jevil sat upon the couch and Mak was happily showing him their new giant diamond Seam gave them. The imp smiled and patted them on the head before flopping back into the couch's soft cushions.
He chuckled as he walked in and made for the armchair he always sat in. "Well, how was your day of work and playing with the little king?"
Jevil didn't even look up from his tuckered pose position. "Exhausting, exhausting. Rouxls, Rouxls has much to do around the castle and watching a child, child while practicing tricks is not easy, easy work at all. Even for myself, myself."
"Says the one that can do anything?," he chuckled as he sat down across from him.
Jevil chuckled. "I never said I couldn't, coudn't do it. Only that it wasn't easy, easy. But where is Rouxls, Rouxls?"
"He's at his shop resting as far as I know. He said he'll be back here tomorrow to escort Mak and myself to the castle, but how is that routine coming along? I would've helped but I vowed to retire from that life long ago."
..Jevil sighed before smiling wider and finally opening to look at him. "I respect, respect your descision old friend. But I will be able to perform tomorrow, tomorrow if I sleep all night tonight. If it means Rouxls, Rouxls and you will like it."
He chuckled. "You know I've always loved your tricks my dear friend. I wouldn't miss it for the world."
"Thank you, thank you." He smiled at him...before his smile disappeared for a moment and he turned his gaze to the ceiling. "Seam, seam?" He hummed and Jevil deflated a little with a sigh. "You know I can never, never apologize enough for my actions all those years ago, and I may make up, make up for my mistake...B-But if Rouxls chooses you or neither, neither of us...Would you mind, mind if we were still, still......I mean..Have, have a second chance at what once was between us, us?"
A silence followed and the cat was staring in surprise at the nervous form of jevil silently laying on the couch awaiting the cat's answer with fear as to what he might say. There was no way he wanted to be left alone after all these years of having no company except for guards delivering food or Lancer occasionally, and after he had discovered he had two soulmates he made peace with. But...it all depended on their answers. He was still dreading what Rouxls would eventually pick, but Seam-...He feared more. But as the cat Chuckled he squinted his eyes shut, fearing the worst.
"But of course. I couldn't imagine life without you again."
Like a spring his eyes snapped back opened and looked to the cat in disbeleif. "WHAT?!"
He just calmly shrugged and smiled. "I already forgave you, you apologised, and life is as normal as it'll be under the circumstances. Why wouldn't I accept an invite like that from my dearest and oldest friend- OOF!!" He didn't get a chance to finish before a purple blur suddenly jumped on him in the form of Jevil hugging the much larger cat as best as he could, Seam freezing up for a good moment or two, before chuckling and reaching up to pat the gremlin on the back.
"Thank you, Seam, Seam."
"Of course. But perhaps we both should get some sleep now. We both have a long day ahead of us tomorrow."
*************************************************************************************************
Seam awoke the next morning to Mak asking for Breakfast and Jevil gone. Guess the royal jester was needed for rehearsal and all that with a ball. Which suited him fine. Not only did he himself had to get ready, but it was going to be difficult to convince the child to do anything of the sort, and he couldn't very well leave them here by themselves. They would've probably been ok, but he would've been a bad caretaker if he left the child there alone by themselves. First order of business was coaxing them into a bath, but of course like any child they refused and he had to brib them by offering them more shiny objects for their collection if they did so, which thy did reluctantly but they didn't like it. He'd make it up to them later when he was finished grooming himself....He was not fond of baths himself. One being because it was a cat thing, and another reason being because whenever he did take a bath his cotten always felt weighed down by all the water soaked into it and his stitches always strained. Nothing a magic drying couldn't fix, but that always left him rechecking all his stitches and brushing all his fluffed up fur. Especially the orange tuft of fur around his neck, it always fluffed up to make him look like some kind if lion, Mak laughed when it happened this time as he rain his claws and brush along the dum mane of hair and the rest of himself, repatching stitches and sighing after the amount of work fixing himself always took. Mak wasn't any better. They would let any part of them be brushed and even after he offered them something in return, only let him fix up the top of their head before clambering back into their suit and letting Seam fix them up and straighten their bowtie back into it's proper place, before throwing on his own black cloak. It had been slightly over a hundred years since he wore it, so he wasn't surprised when it was kinda snug, but it still fit fine all the same at least. He straightened out what he could and even dawned a fancy dress pants to match with it. When he was finished he summoned a mirror with a snap of the fingers and took a look at himself. The cat in the reflection smiled back as he inspected the cloak around his shoulders. The smooth black velvet had gold stitchings on the shoulders and hem and while it didn't go all the way down to his feet, it was still long enough to sheild his arms from sight unless he poked them out, and two large buttons were sewn to the left side of the suit with golden strings attaching them to the other side. Why- He'd say he'd look just like he did nearly a hundred years ago in this, even after his accident which left one of his eyes to be replaced by a button, minus all the patches he had now. Below him Mak was smiling and messing with their bowtie as if still readying themselves for the giant event. He chuckled and patted their head before snapping away the mirror.
"Are you nervous about the party?"
"Nah. Just hungry."
He chuckled again and made for the armchair he was all so familiar with. "Well just remember to behave yourself while we're there, and don't cause trouble." He sighed as he sat down into the comfy armchair and relaxed back into it's soft seat. Snapping his fingers to summon a flame before throwing it into the fireplace, lighting a fire in it's place. The kettle over the fire slowly starting to heat up.
They didn't have to wait too long. Time flew by as he sipped his tea and Mak..was playing with whatever shiny object they had collected recently, but there was no mistaking the sound of the flap opening and fancy heeled footsteps approuching the backroom. Seam hummed and looked to the old clock against the wall. Four thirty sharp. Well the duke wasn't a lier, he did show up to get them at four thirty sharp, and he smiled and turned to the doorway- And blinked in surprise at the sight before him. This could NOT be the duke. This fancy dressed up make up wearing beautiful GODDESS!! Could not be the duke. The blue man that was standing there was wearing fancy white, shiny heeled boots that stopped by his knees, fancy black dress pants and an even fancier blue and white velvet coat shirt. Gold shiny buttons shined from the coat shirt and the long elegant blue cape drapping over one of his shoulders and flowed down until it was a few inches away from the floor. Black spade markings lined the coat and white velvet gloves pushed the coat away for a moment. A small necklace hung around his neck with a shiny black spade and matching earrings were hanging from his pointed ears, but all that was nothing compared to his face. The shiny white hair that usually drapped down his back was now styled in an elegant braid drapping over his left shoulder and any left over small strands were curled framing his face. His eyelashes, looking like they had been curled, brought out his pretty mitchmatched eyes as they fluttered at him and Rouxls smiled. The worm quickly took notice of the cat's staring and the small pink to his cheeks, he's always had this effect on people, but this somehow made him feel more...bashful as the blue man looked down and reached up to push one of the white curls away.
"Art thou pleased with mine look?"
Seam didn't respond at first but coughed before giving a polite smile. "O-Of course. You look rather handsome tonight, Duke." Despite his initial shock at first, he calmly stood up and Mak poked their head out of their corner. Upon seeing Rouxls, they clambered out and bounded over by Seam's side as he rose a hand and snapped his fingers. The fire instantly disappeared and Seam turned back to him. "Sorry. Have to take precations."
Rouxls just bashfully cleared his throat. "T-Thank thee. Art thou r-ready to go?"
Seam patted Mak's head. "Yes. Are you ready to take us?"
His Only answer was smiling and held his hand out. Seam reached down to pick up Mak and calmly put the child under his arm before his bigger paw grasped onto Rouxls's and for a moment the two stood there and flushed, before he felt a sudden build up of magic and a blinding white light captured them both. It was a very strange and weird feeling to be sure, the light bodied nothingness feeling just felt..Strange. So when the three of them landed down on a path, thank goodness, instead of hard stone of the castle and much to his embarrasment, he fell over flopping softly onto the ground and coughed a few times. Blinking away the bright white light and staring up to the dark sky as feeling came back to his body and he realized his fur was standing on end. Mak grunted and crawled out from under his arm and shook the dust off themselves, just as Rouxls leaned over him with a concerned look over his face.
"Oh my. I amst so sorry! A-Art thou alright?"
"Yeah. I'm good." He grunted as he sat up and Rouxls comically pushed his back until the taller cat stood to his feet. The nervous worm quickly dusting him off and he shook his head, feeling slightly embarrased he fell over like a goober. Rouxls's way of teleporting was MUCH more different than Jevil's. He was used to the tight compact feeling of Jevil's twisting teleporting, but he guessed even Rouxls's way was more fancy of doing it. But he paused as Rouxls was still dusting him off and moved to the front of his magnificent cloak. And paused. "Oh. We're here."
The giant looming figure of the Card Castle's shadow towered over them as the cat stared and his button eye spun. He didn't even realize Rouxls had grabbed his paw and began to pull them forwards towards the castle's grand entrance. And Seam only watched as the castle grew closer with Mak bouncing at his heels, the front doors being guarded by two giant Rudinn Rangers who lowered their weapons once the duke waved them away. It was almost like nothing changed. The pathway was still as stone cold as he remembered and the anxeity of all those eyes possibly on himself again for being the old magician. Would everyone look at him funny? By being the duke's date he was bound to get some attention, but that was the least of his worries. WOuld the kings be displeased to see him? It had been quite a while and he wasn't sure if Rouxls told anyone of him being his date for this whole night, but it was still terrorfying. Even if noone knew or remembered him, he was sure he would get some attention for just being on the duke's arm, or more likely the duke being on his arm, but it still made him nervous. And when he blinked, brain catching up with him, he finally noticed they were in the castle. The many, MANY red and pink decorations lining the other wise drab hallways. A lot of giggling and smiles from the many staff and guards were a refreshing sight and calmed his nerves even if only a little bit. Mak was giggling and running around startling some of them and eyes wide at all the shiny decorations, and startling a few of the people watching the child floating around. But no one was looking at him, but he noticed a few people gazing towards the duke then away again. Despite his calm and polite smile, he felt a bit of annoyance at seeing the smiles sent Rouxls way, guess he couldn't help it. Despite what Jevil said, he wasn't the best or young looking. Scars and patches here and there. One eye. Stitches. He was only a few years older than Jevil and a few they were both older than Rouxls by a few more, but he still gave off the aura off being much older. Jevil was always saying it was because of how wise and patient he was, but he always knew it was more his appearance. But he was most surprised when the pair turned a corner and ran into two tall darners wearing suits and with professional faces. He was sure with his limited memory this was the rather large throne/ball room and by the way Rouxls was smiling excitedly at it, his gut feelings was correct. The worm suddenly stopped when Seam did and looked over his shoulder, white brow raising in confusion. The cat had grabbed the stuffed bat for a moment and kneeled down eye level with them for a moment.
"Now do you remember what we talked about?," He questioned and they nodded. "And what did we talk about?"
"No biting or scratching."
"And behave yourself. Can you do that?" They nodded again and he patted their head before standing back up and letting them run ahead to the doors. ROuxls excitedly lead him to the doors and nodded to the two in front of the doors as the child bounced excitedly at the doors waiting for them to open.
At Rouxls's nod, the two Darkners in suits both reached over and grabbed a door each and pushed them open. Seam was NOT prepared for what was on the other side of the doors. His good eye widened and his button one spun about as the doors opened and bright candlelights lit the room and bounced off the many MANY giant glittery decorations lining the wall. His ears twitched towards the left where a band was playing ballroom dance music even though no one was dancing(yet) and he couldn't beleive he just now noticed these sounds. Even though they were around half an hour early arriving, their must've been around at least fifty fancy looking darkners around them wearing glittery jewelry and other fancy things he didn't care for, but it seemed Mak did as their eyes widened before they ran off in a seperate direction giggling to themselves and disappearing into the crowd. Not that the two noticed. Seam was still star struck at the incredible sight of it all. Over to the far left near the winows was a very VERY large and long tabled filled with food: two gigantic roasts, a giaint salad, a chocolate fountain with bowls of fruit around it, a few cakes king sized, a punch bowl, a...giant bowl of Salsa(??), some platter of some kind of cookies(they were shaped like something but he didn't know what), another giant bowl full of dark candy, and a few other things he couldn't make out from the crowd clocking it. And there sitting on the thrones, were the kings and Queens themselves. Ah! He remembered them well. The Clubs were talking to their four headed queen. AH! King Heart and his beloved Queen Amory, the two looked so loving together as Mrs. Hearts fed her husband one of those strangely shaped cookies, and the Diamonds-...Well. They still looked as unhappy in their marriage as usual. The giant Rudinn was rubbing his temples and Mrs. Diamonds was glaring boredly at her surroundings. He chuckled- Until he saw him! The little jevil himself! There was a few wooden stands were in the middle of the floor a few feet above the audience with 5 performers. Four of them were simple jacks. 2 juggling a couple of harmless pins to each other on the stands above the crowd, the third a contorshonist curving his body into impressive poses impossible to most, and the last one laying on a bed of hot coals. The coals safely inside a suspended fireplace for everyone's safety. And in the middle stand of them all was the man of the hour themself. The purple menace hand't noticed them at all yet and wore a jester outfit similar to his regular one, only this one was made of black and gold velvet. The gold parts shiny and flashing brightly thanks to the devilknives he was juggling....and the devilknives were on FIRE!! He sat cross-legged in mid air and easily juggling four devilknives on fire, smiling widely and cackling at his work-
"Sir Duke and Royal Advisor Rouxls Kaard of Puzzles and Card Castle!!...And his plus one Retired Royal Court Mage Seam!!" Seam flinched as someone inside the door way called out Rouxls's official title and a LOT of people turned to see them, the kings included...He guessed someone told them about him too. Rouxls gave a smile and squeezed his paw almost comforting as he gently pulled the startled cat along into the room.
At the announcement of them two specific people caught their attention. Jevil snapped he smile over to them and paused. His yellow eyes widened first at Rouxls. The worm's hair and eyelashes naturally glowing and lighting himself as his fancy eyes met Jevil's and he bashfully smiled back...Jevil's hands didn't stop that expert juggling as he had developed to perform as second nature but he visibly gulped and his eyes slowly widened and had a pinkish hue to the bottom of those yellow orbs. But they started to become fully pink when he turned to Seam and saw the outfit he was wearing. The old but fancy magician cloak was simple compared to Rouxls or his or anyone else's outfits, but it suited him to a T and all the happy memories of him and Jevil performing and being happy came rushing back- And his smile came back even more wide as Seam calmly smiled at him too. His cackling growing as he juggled. The second person jumped up on their throne as soon as Rouxls's name was announced before jumping off said throne and began zooming through the crowd towards them. Pushing past others and excitement dripping over their young face.
"LESSER DAD!!" Rouxls's head snapped to the left and smiled widely kneeling down and holding his arms out just as Lancer grunted and squeezed between two darkners before coming free and running towards the worm who easily captured the young boy in his arms and happily brought the giggling boy up in his arms. Seam smiled and peered curiously at the small boy in the duke's hold, finally getting a look at this famous young king. The child was dressed in a small fancy uniform and cape, with a white crown on his head. A blue tongue stuck out of his mouth as she giggled and his tail wagged happily as his face hole that was apparently his face stared at his father. "Where were you? I thought your break was over."
Rouxls chuckled and bounced him a few times. "I waseth...a bit busy with a fewest new things and visiting someone." He turned to Seam who reached a paw up and waved to the small pup who tilted his head at him. "Lancer. Tis a friend, Seam."
"...You look really fluffy and tall Mr. Grandpa cat!"
Seam's brow rose, not expecting that kind of reaction from the child, but chuckled either way as Rouxls groaned softly. "Well, I'm happy you think so, Young King. " He bowed. "And what a brave little man you are."
"YEAH!! Lesser Dad is my noble steed too!!...Whatever a noble steed is." He said proudly and both men couldn't help but chuckle.
"Were you good while I was gone?"
He nodded. "YEAH!! I got to play with Uncle Jevil, and he made sure I got all the food I wanted, and he let me watch him practice, and he made me do boring homework with the teacher guy, and then I had to take a bath." He sucked in a breath to keep going. "And then I had to wear this itchy suit, but I got to eat ice cream for breakfast today!!" He took a moment to look at his father. "WOW!! You look really pretty, Dad!"
Rouxls rose a brow at him at the ice cream bit, but still smiled at the compliment. "Thank you, and you look as handsome as ever." He gave him a kiss to the forehead to which the child giggled at but shook his head.
"And Ralsei's coming!! I don't know when because his letter said his parents were busy, but he promised he would come!!"
He chuckled. "I look forward to meeting this Prince officially. We haven't been properly introduced since mine encounter longe ago with thine Lightner friends."
"This young uh..Prince wouldn't happen to be a small white darkner with glasses would it?" Seam asked curiously and Rouxls blinked at himbut Lancer answered before he could.
"YEAH!! He really cool!! Not as cool as Susie, but he can do really cool magic and is really nice!!"
He hummed and smiled again. "Well then I remember this Prince of Darkness. He and his friends visited my shop and fought Jevil. I was honestly surprised they made it out in one peice."
Rouxls blinked..before scowling. "What?..Art thou telling mineself that Jevil battled against children and thou let them?!"
Seam paused sensing Rouxls's now displeased scowl and shrugged nervously. "They lived, and aren't you the one who tried to stop them using puzzles and a powered up K-round?"
His frown deepened. "Mine puzzles were not thine best true, but they were made to trap and not harm and mine control crown -before it was destroyed by thine lightners- made thine K-round under mine control and I waseth going to stop it once it weakened thine lightners enough to store them safely within thine dungeon....I was NAY!! Intending on causing any harm or did so so carelessly, Seam." The cat didn't say anything this time and Rouxls sighed. "We and Jevil are goinge to have a longe talketh about this later." He quickly turned back to a small smile to Lancer and chuckled. "Now. Art thou having fun?" Lancer shook his head no. "Nay? What ever is thy matter?"
"Ralsei's not here and Uncle Jevil's busy...and everyone said I couldn't bring ANY toys and I have to sit on the dumb chair until Uncle jevil does his trick Routine." He pouted and leaned against his father.
"Oh? And when is Jevil going to entertain us?"
"He promised before my bedtime but it's taking too long!!"
Rouxls chuckled at his pouting and nodded to Seam to follow. "Well then. Now that I'm here, why don'tst thou wait with me while you wait for thou's friend, and gettest to know Seam better?"
"Is he cool?"
"Very.~ He was a magician."
Lancer's interest spiked up at magician and the pup stared past Rouxls shoulder up at the stuffed cat as he followed Rouxls back to the giant thrones. He was pretty anxious to be stepping up in front of the kings and queens no less, but to his surprise and absolute releif, none payed much attention then the usually 'Oh, I remember you. How are you these days?' kinda talk. Two of the four kings were too busy making googoo eyes at their partners anyways and one was busy trying NOT to notice the giant lady Rudinn they were married to. Lancer looked up at the kissig faces and made a 'yuck!' face and pointed at his mouth. Seam chuckling at the sight. Such a innocent child. Rouxls set him back down on the chair and Lancer groaned, falling back into the comfy seat as the other royals greeted the duke before going back to their regular business. Despite being next to the gigantic royals, Seam's attention was on the crowd. His good eye scanned the many, many couples swapping small hearts or giggling with red faces. One or two kissing each other. He thought he saw a flash on Mak every few seconds but couldn't be sure, and his eye went to Jevil the imp smiled seeing him look at him juggling before doing a flip in mid air looking like he was doing a hand stand without using his arms to stand and looked at him upside-down without stopping juggling and winked at him. Seam chuckled and waved back over to him- He hummed and turned back to the throne. Rouxls was now sitting in the throne with Lancer in his arms and said child was tugging his cape with interest.
"Are you really a magician?," he asked.
He chuckled. "A used to be. But I'm retired now."
"What does 'retired' mean?"
His paw came up to pat his head where his crown wasn't. "It means I don't work that particular job anymore. Now I own a store."
"Like Lesser Dad?" Seam nodded and Lancer smiled wider. "Uncle Jevil said you used to do tricks too!" His tail thumped wider in excitement. "Can you show me?! Please!!"
Seam hesitated for a moment, he hadn't really performed persay any tricks in a long time. But one look at Rouxls's smile encouraged him. After all, Jevil had made peace with their soulmates child, it was only fair he made a good first impression too. So he leaned down and held out his paws, both empty and not wearing sleeves. Lancer glanced at them curiously but jumped when Seam suddenly clapped them together, and slowly opened them to where he was holding a small toy in his paws. Lancer gasped at the cute teddy bear in his paws and reached out excitedly for it as Seam handed it over. Lancer was happy to examine the new toy before holding it to him in a hug and looked back to him bouncing and saying: 'Again! Again!' Rouxls was smiling wide now as was Seam as he performed another trick for the small pup. This time reaching behind his crown and then suddenly pulling out a single dark dollar, to which Lancer gasped in wonder and also took it when Seam offered it to him, shoving it into his pants pocket and asking for him to do it again. He smiled and happily performed a few simple tricks he remembered. Pulling a strand of tied together hankercheifs out of nowhere, which lancer also reached for excitedly. Making a small flame appear and turning it into different simple shapes like a circle, cube, flat surface, etc. Pulling a button out of his ear seemingly. And a few other harmless little party tricks a child like Lancer found amazing, the child was just fascinated with magic and he chuckled at his excitement. In the meantime Rouxls watched lovingly as Lancer was giggling and enjoying himself as Seam bowed as he clapped at his small performances. While this was going on every so often the announcer would shout out another name as more guests arrived.
"Princess Clover Clubs of Card Castle!!" King and Queen Clubs were excited and babbled as their small three headed daughter came up to them wearing a small crown for each head but that was about it. "Baron Mr. Elegance and Mr. Society of Great Bourd Pass!!" Two strange all white darkners made their way in about thirty minutes later and mingled with the crowd. Thirty minutes later."Royal Court Healer Ms Valen and her Husband!!" A slightly bigger than average blue hathy couple. Seam was starting to get the impression that most of the folks here were important court members and their plus ones/partners or just important people invited to the royal shindig. As the next ones also arrived around thirty minutes after the last. "General of War Sir Punch-a-lot and his husband!!" A VERY scarred up red rudinn ranger slithered through the doors with a slightly smaller green one and the red one gave a grumpy look around before rolling his eyes and letting himself be dragged in. Thirty minutes later. "Head Of Treasury and Staff Ms. Royal Coat Jack!!" A strange looking jack came in, but she just looked nervous and skittered in without another word. Huh. Guess she was the secritary Rouxls often referred to helping him. But the next announcement made Lancer perk up from his new teddy bear again thrity minutes later. "Esteemed Guest and Hero of the Darklands Prince Ralsei Durrmee of the neighboring Durrmee Kingdom!!"
This time a LOT of attention was focused to the doors as they opened and Seam looked too, wanting to get a look at this hero once again, and a small hush came over the crowd. Behind the doors strode in a teenage darkner. He looked-..Well exactly how Seam remembered. Same outfit too. Green cloak and hat, wide circle glasses, and red scarf. The nervous looking boy paused looking at all the darkners suddenly staring at him and he smiled nervously before waving a paw.
"Uh...H-Hi, Everyone." He quickly excused himself and made his way towards them. It seems the only ones who didn't stop were the band and performers, taking their jobs seriously no matter what happened. The nervous goat monster made his way through the crowd and Lancer's tail wagged even more as he came closer. "Excuse me. Excuse me. Pardon me, Ma'am. Oops! Sorry. W-Watch your footing, Sir." He said as he walked even closer to the royals who were now looking with smiles- Except for Queen Diamonds who seemed more interested in her jewelry. But the boy still bowed once he got close enough to the giant thrones and their occupants. "U-Um..Greetings, Everyone. I hope I'm not too late-"
''RALSEI!!" Lancer happily jumped off the Duke's lap and made for the teen still holding his teddy bear, said goat prince looked up just in time to watch the small spade pup hug one of his legs and giggled. Tail wagging. "YOU'RE HERE!! NOW IT WON'T BE ALL MUSHY AND BORING!! YOU WANNA PLAY WITH ME?!" All the adults (minus Queen Diamond and Clover) awed at the adorable sight of the teen giggling and patting his head in response. Clover's three heads were staring at the small goat teen with blue blushes even though each head had a different face responding to the blush. "Sure. If your dad doesn't mind." He looked back up at the duke still sitting in the throne smiling and watching, and waved a paw at him. "Um. H-Hello Mr. Kaard. Wow. You look really nice tonight. All of you guys do too."
Clover flushed deeper at that and Rouxls chuckled. "Nonsense. Thou arrived with plenty of time to spare. How waseth thou's trip?"
"F-Fine thanks." He straightened his glasses before looking down to Lancer. "And if he doesn't have any other duties, I'd be happy to catch up-"
"HEY!!" Most everyone jumped up at the sudden shout from one of the clubs princess's heads. "YOU PROMISED YOU'D BE OUR DATE TONIGHT!!" "I-It's fine if he wanted to spend time with him instead, I'll just be a little sad." "OH! I'm so excited! Our first date with a cute fluffy boy!"
"Uh..." Ralsei glanced to Rouxls for any help on the matter.
All of King Clubs heads looked displeased and about to say something a whole lot of somethings before his wife's heads spoke up. "Dearest we talked about this." "J-J-Just...l-l-let her have this moment..ok?" "Im fine with anything really." "HEY!! SHE'S ALMOST SIXTEEN!! GIVE HER A LITTLE SPACE!!" The five heads of his majesty stared at each other for a moment...before grumbling and not saying anything. "THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT!!" "Thank you, Sweetie." "T-T-Thanks." "Im still fine with anything really."
Ralsei still looked quite unsure before looking back to Clover. "U-Um..Ok. C-Can Lancer come too? I promised to spend time with him too."
The three heads looked at each other before the middle one spoke. "Would that make you happy and like us more?"
"Uh," he said still really unsure and looked at Lancer who nodded eagerly. "Yyyyeesss??"
"OK!! We can start by getting some roasted tree!!" She shouted before standing back up and walking towards him.
"Roasted what?"
He was nudged away by one of Clover's heads and Lancer happily bounced next to the two (or five if you counted each of Clover's heads as an individual) teens. King Clubs still not looking the tiniest bit pleased at his daughter's 'date' for the night at all.
"Do you think we're pretty?" "I thought we looked nice." "OF COURSE WE ARE!! WE HAVE STYLE!!"
"Uh..Yes?"
The last Seam heard of THAT conversation was Clover happily squealing to herself and still pushing the poor boy off with Lancer at their heels. At least the boy would be around two other kids and get to spend time with someone closer to his age group. But speaking of food, Seam gazed over to the table full of goods and wondered if there was anything to his liking. He didn't really have to eat being made of cotten, but anything he did eat was converted into extra magic later and who knows when that might come in handy? Rouxls seemed to mirror his same thoughts as he stood up and bid good morrow to the giant royals before turning in Seam's direction and gesturing to the giant food table in question. Seam nodded and the two began their way there, with Seam politely offering Rouxls his paw and the duke gladly taking it with a smile. The two made their way over past the others in the room and finally his one good eye was able to make out all the stuff on the table that was previously blocked from veiw...and his smile disappeared as he blinked. The last table sat a ....bowl of roasted tennis balls covered in cheese and-...a atcually honest to lightner tree that looked like someone tried to burn it but didn't do a very good job. Clover was there sitting on her hind legs and her front paws held a plate with ease. The giant plate had a couple of the tennis balls and a chunk of what he could only guess was this 'roasted tree' she was so excited about. One of her heads was jabbering to Ralsei while another one scarfed down what was on the plate. Poor kid was smiling nervously holding a plate with a single cheese covered tennis ball, obviously trying not to be rude...and LAncer was bouncing one of said tennis balls getting cheese all over the floor. The cat chuckled and shook his head. The poor kids. The duke and him at first stuck together looking at things but as soon as his eyes spotted the mac n cheese bowl he lit up and made a beline for it, leaving seam chuckling and looking around at all the other foods. He wasn't really that picky but none of it was really appealing to him yet. The roasts looked too hard and chewy, and he was never a big fruit or salad fan. And all the deserts looked too sweet for him. And there was NO WAY he was about to eat cheese covered tennis balls or burnt trees- And speaking of deserts. He chuckled when he finally saw the strange cookies and now understood why they were called 'Lancer Cookies', because they were all decorated to look like the young boy. He sighed and shook his head, going to move past the punch bowl since he wasn't really that thirsty....But paused when something...(or someone) slowly rose out of the punch bowl making a few darkners around them cringe in disgust.
It took him a few moments of blinking and staring to realize who it was, and when he did he sighed. "Mak. WHY are you in the punch bowl?"
The child blinked back. "I got thirsty."
His brow rose. "And so you decided to go swimming in the punch bowl?...And where did you get those sunglasses?" He now noticed the new and shiny sunglasses on top of their head. And he sighed. They were all sticky and wet now.
"Waiting for the surprise."
He blinked. "Surprise? What surprise?"
Before they could answer the same announcer that was shouting everyone's official statuses shouted out his voice from near the king's throne and he turned to look. In the meantime Mak slowly drifted back down into the pink punch and disappeared. "ATTENTION!! THE ROYAL PERFORMERS SHALL BEGIN THE SHOW!! PLEASE STAND CLEAR FOR THE CENTER STAGE!!"
Seam looked confused for a moment, but then sudden flashbacks of his old shows reached his mind. The audience of around a hundred darkners all gasped and stood aside when the jacks all stopped performing including Jevil as he caught the devilknives that he had been juggling this whole time. Each one being put out as he did and he watched in mid air as the five jacks jumped from their set up stages and began to push their own stage towards the middle one Jevil was sitting above. The five giant puzzle peice designed stages coming to fit perfectly with one another as he remembered it would and a small smile reached his face. Well, well. It had been quite a long time since he'd even seen a royal performance. Now was a good oppurtunity to witness one. Rouxls walked up back next to him watching curiously as he ate and the lights dimmed out until only two spotlights remained, one on the band that had gone silent, and one on the stage where all the performers including jevil had hopped off.
"ANNOUNCING LADY PAPER DOLL AND HER WONDEROUS BALLERINA DANCERS DOING THEIR FAMOUS WATERFALL DANCE!!" The man announced. "PLEASE EVERYONE STEP AWAY FROM THE DOORS!!''
Most everyone scrambled out of the way as the band started up some ballet sounding waltz music starting with violins at the same time the doors opened and in came not one but FIVE different all white white some black thin looking darkners dashed in through the dark. Making the audience gasped in surprise as they all jumped expertly and easily onto the table and could now be all clearly seen the spotlight. The biggest one was all white and stood in the middle as the black and white ones, four of those, all stood around her. All made similar ballerina poses as the music faded for just a moment before starting back up again, them moving along with it it gracefully. With the four smaller ones standing on their tip toes and slowly swaying their arms going a few yards away from the bigger one (the stage was fairly large and well built for such things) as their leader stood on one leg and reached her hand up as the soft flute music slowly died out once again and the other four stopped in a pose which left them on their tip toes and their arms pointed to their middles. They could hear the music conductor tap his music sheet stand and begin to wave his hands. Trumpets and violins started to play and they moved. The four began to move in similar motions, twirling themselves in circles while also circling their middle leader in a bigger circle as they spun, and who he assumed to be Lady Paper Doll moved as graceful as one would expect. She expertly brought her leg up high to stand on one leg and twirl around before taking a few graceful steps forwards the edge of the dancing circle before stopping, hand to her chest in fake distraught befor doing the same thing towards the other side before holding a hand to her forehead and dashing back towards the middle twirling a few more times before expertly 'falling' to the floor and laying limp like a ragdoll in a fake faint.
Seam hummed and leaned down to Rouxls to whisper. It was easy to see the worm as his white hair and eyelashes easily glowed in the dark giving him a beautiful aura. "They're very good. This Lady Paper Doll is quite graceful."
Rouxls nodded without looking at him. "Tis based on a true story about what someone sometimes experiences."
"Oh really?"
Rouxls nodded and pointed to Ms Paper Doll who had just now sat up to her knees and was fake sobbing and twirling her upper body in graceful circle motion to the music. "She represents the struggle someone goes througheth with their sad emotions when something devastating happens. And the four dancing around her-" He gestured to the still twirling ballarinas still doing circles while encircling her. "-represent the obsticles and circle of emotions thoust tis feeling. Which is why she's also metiphorically trapped within thine middle. Trapped within her own emotions and problems, which only go downwards as if one tis in a waterfall. Hence thy name Waterfall Dance. They're truly a remarkable group."
Seam didn't doubt that as he looked back to the lit stage from the dark audience. Lady Paper Doll then expertly held her hands up and pushed herself up onto her toes that resembled someone lifting a limp puppet. Twirling around a few more times before she blinked and held her head up to the light. Pretending to just now notice the light shining down on her. Reaching a hand up towards the spot light before she flinched and curled in on herself head down in fake shame. The four dancer had now stopped twirling and were facing her, the for gracefully ran up to her and held their arms above her as if metiphorically holding her down- Before she suddenly snapped back up. The four smaller dancers recoiled and treated back to their circle. This time running back to their circle, but instead of their twirling from earlier, they gracefully lept and ran around in a giant circle as the middle tallest dancer twirled a few more times before stoppong in the middle and striking a proud pose of her chest out, arms back and head held high. Rouxls smiled excitedly next to him.
"This is thine best part, the next steps represent her tossing the stress and thinges away from her and crumbling in sweet defeat and rising to thine goals!" He sighed. "Such beauty tis a work of art.~"
He had to agree. She stood in that pose for the longest time as the four others encircled her before she suddenly pirouletted and pivioted to the middle of said circle of ballerinas before stilling. One ballerina suddenly breaking the circle the circle and running towards her gracefully, the taller woman easily caught her and held her up in the air, the two doing a graceful pose before she let go mid spun and the smaller ballerina expertly 'fell' to her knees and slid a little away, hand to her forhead before 'falling' to the floor in defeat. Followed one by one of the other three who slid away and laid down in similar defeated poses which the audeience awed at and even Seam had to confess the ladies' were experts at their job. Leaving the spotlight on just the tall one and watching as the depressing and exciting music from earlier suddenly became more happy sounding and she prirouletted and spun in other dance moves he couldn't name as the song came to an end spinning happily and doing the same proud pose from before with her head and arms pointed backwards as the happy music finally ended and left. There was silence for just a few seconds before cheers and applause came from the audeince watching all around the stage and the other four ballerinas stood from their position on the floor to go stand next to their leader as they all curtsied to their audience. Seam found himself clapping along and smiling at the performances the ladies did for them. One by one they jumped off the stage and gracefully leaped back to where they came from. The balloroom still quite dark other than the two spotlights on the bandstand and huge stage. He almost did hear the announcer shout the next performers.
"UP NEXT!! THE JACK BROTHERS AND THEIR AMAZING BALANCE ACT!!"
The same four jacks from before all flipped and jumped from different parts of the audience onto the stage and struck a pose. Everyone clapping excitedly for the next act. Except for Seam. He recognized these old jacks and already knew their whole routine, if he remembered right they would start out with two of them standing on top of each other balancing on a ball and two others throwing juggling pins over the two flipping on the ball. And wouldn't you know it, one made a giant green ball appear, so Seam busied himself by turning around and grabbing one of these lancer cookies as the four performed, the audience including Rouxls watched captivated. Upon eating the cookie, he discovered it was just a regular sugar cookie with icing. He still didn't watch the performance when the audience gasped when one of the jugglers suddenly jumped onto the ball with the other two while still juggling back and forth with the one on the ground before they jumped, and was suspended onone of the bottom jack's held out arms, the entire time two jack's still juggling but now they were rolling the ball around moving around on the stage as they rolled around and juggled with expert balance, making the audience awe in disbeleif and he had finally turned around to look around at the crowd. It was dark but he was used to seeing everything in the dark besides lanturn light or his fireplace. He was looking for one small purple gremlin dressed in black ang gold in particular but he didn't see him anywhere. Now where could that little rascal have run off too this time? He was wondering if Jevil was planning some kind of grand entrance to the act, most likely. He always liked showing off to others around him. The four jacks was bouncing on the ball now, up and down a few times before one by one they jumped off the ball and the two juggling caught the pins and did poses with the other two. The audience roared again with excitement at the second performance as the four bowed to the watching crowd. Seam did too, more out of politefulness of the situation than actually watching the performance, but the four hopped off the stage and disappeared somewhere within the crowd not to be seen again for the rest of the night.
"NOW FOR OUR FINAL PERFORMANCE!! LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!! PLEASE WELCOME THEE ROYAL COURT JESTER SIR JEVIL!!"
The crowd both gave a mix of excited and unsure faces but all that changed once a giant puff of smoke exploded on the stage and Rouxls's and his smiles became wider. A small BOOM! noise also went off and gold confetti shot out everywhere. Some landed on the stage but some fell over the crowd, shining thanks to the spotlight. Happy cackling was heard as the dust cleared and there was the purple jester in all his glory, he giggled to the crowd and bowed. The bells on his hat jiggling to his movements, the gold parts of his outsit shining in the light. Here we go. They were in for quite a treat.
"Ahehehehehe!~ Welcome, welcome!! Let there be chaos, chaos!! Fun, fun!! But a word of warning, warning!" His held up his hands. "Please, please do not try to do what my chaos, chaos brings at home, home! They are quite dangerous, quite dangerous!!" He snapped his fingers and suddenly the band started playing some kind of upbeat circus music and the audience's main focus was on the clown as he Suddenly whipped out a metal hula hoop. He sucked a deep breath and his cheeks puffed out, Rouxls recognized it as the face he made before he blew fire. And sure enough flames came forth from the fool's mouth and the hoop caught fire. The iron circle was tossed away from him quickly after that and they guessed he must've been using magic to make it suspended in mid air on the other side of him, before he yet again reach behind him and summoned more devilsknives, around five. He was floating now and stood on the stage. Really showing how small he was compared to Seam and Rouxls. Without so much as a warning he began to easily juggle the sharp looking weapons as the flaming hot hoop came shooting at him. While STILL juggling, he easily jumped up a foot and jumped right threw the flaming hoop's middle, the hoop stopped before it could even reach the other side of the stage and they guessed Jevil must've been using his magic to make it go back and forth as he still jumped threw it whenever it got close enough and still juggled those devilsknives, cackling and happy all around at everyone marvaling at his skills. Bells jiggling wildly. "This is fun, fun!! But more excitement should be expected, expected!!" Without warning the devilknives were all grabbed by him one by one and shoved back into his black cloak disappearing while he still jumped through that flaming hoop, when the last devilsknife disappeared, he reached a clawed hand out and caught the flaming circle. Giving it a few shakes until it was completely put out and he held it up, showing it off with a smile.
Everyone clapped again including them and Seam chuckled. "An old but classic. I wonder if he shall do his famous No-throat sword swallowing trick or fire images."
Before Rouxls could answer, Jevil had already bounded to the other side of the stage before reaching over into the dark real quick as someone (one of the jacks most likely) handed him what looked liked a couple of long rods wrapped in an old cloth, he nodded to whoever handed him the thing before he made his way back to center stage, the audeince watching in silent anticipation. With his back towards the half of the audience that his two soulmates were and only stood back up when he unwrapped said cloth on the floor, a metal SHING!! sounded off as Jevil produced a shiny average looking sword in his hands and showed it off to the audience. "Again, again! Please do not recreate what you are about to see at home, home! Sword swallowing and playing with fire is a very, very dangerous skill even for me, me." The sword was tossed up without another word and it was suspended in mid air by his magic. One person in the band gave a drum roll as it slowly desceneded dowwards and to everyone's shock, the fool's head sprung off his shoulder with a spring and he opened those jaws wide. Rouxls's jaw dropped to the floor as his mousetrap jaws opened and the sword continued it's decent down and THROUGH IT!! The audience gasped when the sword seemingly disappeard into the void of his mouth until the handle was left and his spring neck wobbled. WHERE WAS THAT THING EVEN DISAPPEARING TOO?! Seam chuckled. He knew, Jevil was using teleprtation magic to give the illusion it was going down his none-existant-for-the-moment throat and instead most likely making it appear under the stage where the audeince couldn't see it, but it was still amusing to see their surprised faces. Especially Rouxls who looked at him bulged eyes. The drum still played when Jevil's hand flicked it back up and the sword began to retreat out of his opened jaws. As soon as the last few inches of shiny metal left his teeth, there was a crashed of symbols from the band stand and his neck sprung back down to his shoulder. Instantly like it never happened and he did another pose as the audienc roared again in applause, the sword dropping and being caught in his hand as he presented it back to his fans. Before setting it back down to his feet when another long metal thing was picked up by him. This time it was a long metal rod with some kind of giant fuse at the end. Like a long torch. The same hissing breath and puffed out cheeks signaled the flames before it erupted from his throat, blowing onto the end of the rod and catching it on fire just like a torch. He smiled and giggled at his handywork, holding it up and he looked around to the darkened audeience! "Hehehehe!~ Forms and shapes I make with flames, flames. But helpers I need to pick, pick what to form and dazzle you all!!"
Seam leaned closer to Rouxls. "He means he's going to pick a few people from the audeince to choose what magic picture he'll make with fire."
Rouxls gave a small oh and watched as Jevil tapped his chin and looked over the watching crowd. "Now, now! Who shall I pick to choose the first picture-"
"DO ME!! DO ME!!" Jevil's head snapped to the right and Rouxls suddenly groaned as Lancer was jumping and waving his arms a few feet away from the crowd in a very unkingly manor. "PLEASE! DO ME!!"
Jevil chuckled and bowed in the boy's direction. "But how could I refuse, refuse a request from our beloved King, King?" Everyone watched as Jevil turned his face and the flaming rod up towards the stone ceiling and sucked in another hissing breath, though this one seemed to take longer as his chest expanded at well- Before it all broke loose!! A large stream of flames shot out from his mouth and hit the rod as the flames' path widened and a HUGE wall of flames shot out above the audeince and spread out into lines forming the shape that was similar to the Lancer Cookies clearly intending to be the small boy. The audeince's eyes sparkled as the flames fizzled into nothing after a few seconds and immediately applauded the clown as he bowed his head, Lancer giggled and clapping his hands together from seeing his flame protrait. "Hehehe!~ Thank you, thank you!! As tradition I shall take four more requests, requests to equal five!! Who shall, shall request next?!" This time a lot more people raised their hands and shouted requests to the purple imp! And he slowly did them one by one. A rabbick for a Noble. Another flame portrait for Mr. Society. A lovely flower for King Hearts dedicated to Queen Amory, Rouxls awed at the romantic gesture King Hearts made towards his wife who herself gushed at the sweet thought. And lastly a diamond shape after Queen Diamond ordered it of him. Well...He couldn't disobey the Queens but King Diamonds looked rather embarrased as he held a hand over his face when it all happened. The rod was put out when Jevil stuck the entire flaming end in his mouth- Before removing it quickly and a fire giant stream of hot flame was shot over one part of the audeince who leaned away and gasped before applauding his efforts again. "Now for some old classics! But first please, please welcome by adorable asistant, asistant!!" He snapped his fingers and another bang and small explosion of smoke appeared something purple and grey shot out of the smoke cloud. It slid up to him in the form of Mak wearing those sunglasses and a kazoo in their mouth, blowing on it before posing and a poof of confetti went off behind them. "Now we shall begin, begin the fun!!''
The rest of Jevil's tricks were pretty basic tricks, He would summon props he needed or someone would hand him what he needed from the audience, and Seam watched as it went as followed. The disappearing box. The classic (fake) sawing someone in half. And the classic having Mak stand against a wooden wall while he threw small show daggers at them, expertly missing. And at the end the two did a pose at the end as everyone clapped for them and Jevil looked to the two soulmates standing to the side by the table. Giggling and-.. blowing kiss in their direction. Rouxls froze with a small squeak sound, immediately turning a darker blue and Seam chuckled at both their reactions as he and Mak bounced off the stage. The candles were relit and staff quickly rushed over to grabbed at the stage, pulling the puzzle peices apart and beginning to pushing them towards the front door the dancers had run through before, making more room in the large ballroom for one obvious reason. But they would get to that in a moment, right now everyone was starting to chatter to each other excitedly about the performances that had just been shown to them while others made their way for the food table. Seam felt sorry for all the folks drinking the punch, and the band started up with the calm ballroom music again. And Rouxls turned back to him with a wide smile.
"Thine Jester's performance waseth astounding!!" His wide grin and excited tone made Seam chuckle.
"I told you. Jevil's magical abilities are quite impressive."
A stream of maniac giggled from behind Rouxls made the worm jumped and whirl around and blink at the side of Jevil smiling, sitting in mid air, tail wagging behind him happily. "Really, really?!" He giggled more at the worm's slightly spooked face. Dark purple rushing to his cheeks as his head fell to his hands staring at the two of them lovingly. "Thank you, thank you. You both l-l-look so lovely, so lovely.~"
Rouxls cleared his throat and gave a polite smile and bow. "Thank thee. Thou art looking splendid as well. Thine performance waseth wonderful!!"
Seam nodded. "I agree. You're performances were just as magical as I remember old friend."
Jevil giggled even more and if Seam didn't know better, he would say he was flustered in the presence of both him and Rouxls dressed up in fancy clothing. More purple coming to his cheeks at the compliments, but what perked the old cat's attention was the sudden start up of exciting violins and the excited gasp King Hearts made. He watched as the giant hathy pushed himself off from his throne and turned to the other giant than average hathy bowing and offering one of his giant tentacles to her. She giggled and of course accepted his offer to her. His one good eyes watched as the two intertwined hathys made their way down the small steps of the throne and into the crowd of the ballroom. Seam knew exactly what was about to start happening and sure enough, a whole bunch of other darkners were bowing or asking their partners to dance and the dancefloor area was soon filled with the dancing forms of couples as they laughed and made googoo eyes at each other under the candlelights and pink and red decorations. Jevil watched them all for a moment before looking back towards Seam and Rouxls with expectance- Rouxls jumped in surprise when a soft hand grabbed his shoulder and pulled him against an equally soft body.
"Sorry old friend." Rouxls eeped when he looked up and found himself leaning against Seam as the giant stuffed cat gave Jevil a patient smile. "I know we agreed to be equals but you had your date, so please allow me to have mine. But I assure you, you can come to talk to us when we're not busy dancing or whatever it is people do on dates."
Jevil blinked, clearly not expecting that but gave a smile at them anyways, "Fair enough, fair enough. I was feeling a little hungry anyways. " He looked back to the table just as the Royal Clubs couple walked by talking loudly to themselves and making a line for the roasted tree and sports section of the table. And Seam chuckled again before tilting his head down to Rouxls.
"I know I don't know how to ballroom dance, but I suppose I Should ask you if you would care to dance anyways."
Rouxls blinked flustered up at him and cleared his throat, looking down. "W-W-Wellst if t-thou c-can't dance I shant make thee dance if thou are nay comfortable with it-"
"Oh, I'm comfortable with it. I just don't know how to do the fancy dances they're doing." He gestured to all the fancy waltzes and ballroom dances the nobles and court members were clearly doing. Chuckling when he saw the Prince Ralsei trying to dance with Princess CLover but she was so bigger than him she just stood on her back legs as Ralsei nervously held her front paws and sort of rocked with her. Clover wasn't complaining though as her faces were a dark blue and Lancer was sitting on the floor next to him and playing with the teddy bear he had given him hours ago now.
Rouxls reached a hand up to nervously grip his braid and still didn't look at Seam even as the cat let go. "W-W-Well..I-I-If thou insists- " He blinked nervously when Seam bowed and offered a paw then.
"Well then Mr. Kaard. Would you like to dance?"
Roucxls could only stand there with a deep blue blush and Jevil chuckled behind him. He opened and closed his mouth a few times like a goldfish before clearling his throat trying to look perfessional before shakily reaching a hand out and grabbing the soft paw. It closed around his smaller hand and Seam leaned back up before gently tugging him and pulling him towards the dancefloor with everyone else. Rouxls looked nervous and gave a look to Jevil behinde him only to see Jevil waving him good bye. The fancy shining light and jewelry everyone was wearing was almost blinding as he was lead into the crowd and stopped. Pulled against another figure suddenly as Seam put them into the tradional ballroom dance pose, but instead of the fancy waltzing around them, he just gently made them start swaying in small circles. Which he was releived at. He didn't know if he could handle any real fast and fancy dancing with his legs feeling like jello. He looked up to Seam's face for a moment as he smiled back, his heart skipping a beat before he cleared his throat and looked away nervously again. The silence still going on for a moment before he tried to speak and break the awkward silence.
"T-T-Thou art a b-better dancer than thou thinkest."
"Well thank you. I'm sorry if I hadn't said anything yet. But I wanted to be sure you were just as comfortable speaking." there it was, the patience and consideration of the cat he always loved.
Rouxls chuckled bashfully and fluttered his lashed up at him. "W-Well thank thou. I appreciate thou's concerns for mineself."
"But of course. Why wouldn't I? You and Jevil mean a lot to me." He chuckled. "It's been so long since anything really mattered to me as much as this."
Rouxls blinked up at him lovingly and in surprise as they still circled around. The taller form almost blocked out the light making it bounce around him and make it almost like the cat was glowing, a being of light similar to himself. Which is why his brain possibly wasn't really thinking and he suddenly stood on his tip toes and pressed a kiss to his nose tip. Seam stopped completely surprised and Rouxls suddenly pulled away. Blinking up at Seam's frozen form and a sudden feeling of guilt came over him.
"O-Oh. S-Sorry! I didst not mean to makest thou uncomfortable-"
He chuckled. "No, no. It's alright. In fact I would say it was the best part of my night."
He blinked up surprised again. "R-Really?"
Seam nodded and Rouxls sighed, releived he didn't do anything wrong by his sudden boldness but he would make sure to ask first before he did anything else like that. He wasn't sure how long they stood there dancing in each other arms, Rouxls giggling if Seam's made a small joke towards him and still smiling. But the two were soon interrupted when a white paw pulled at rouxls's cape and the worm turned around curious and came face to face with Prince Ralsei. The goat darkner looks at him with a slightly guilty face, Rouxls stared down in his arms and noticed he held a sleeping spade pup. Lancer was lightly snoring in Ralsei's arms and cutely clutching the small teddy bear in his arms, the crown lopsided on his head and that spade hole in his face closed. He shifted a little in the goat prince's arms and gave a cute puppy yawn before curling into his warmth like any cute child would.
"Uh. S-So sorry to bother you Mr. Kaard. But Lancer fell asleep and I didn't know what to do." He held the child up to him and Rouxls smiled and reached for him. Lancer's face blinked open for a second and his mind woke up just enough to recognize Rouxls so when the worm picked him up, the pup wrapped his arms around his neck and laid his head on his shoulder still clutching the bear.
He grunted as he shimmied him into his hold. "Tis quite alright. Tis rather late after all, tis only natural Lancer fell asleep." He patted Lancer's back and looked back up to Seam. "Mine apologies but I must get Lancer to bed."
He held up his paws. "No, no. It's understandable. ...*sigh* I think I better find my small one too. They're most likely tuckered out after the exciting night they just had."
The two men and sleeping child excited the dancing crowd and spotted Mak pretty easily. Jevil was hovering beside them as they snored and laid on one of the chairs placed out for the guests. The imp chuckled and waved at the trio as they arrived and Seam sighed, reaching over to take the sleeping bat in his arms and looking over them. The sunglasses were crooked on their face, and they were all wet and sticky from the punch, but he soon found the extra weight to be a whole bunch of shiny jewelry stuffed in their pockets. He didn't say or question it and instead turned and started making their way towards the exit with Jevil shrugging and the two men followed after, neither saying a word to each other in fear of waking either children until they got to the giant doors that were pushed open by servants and closed behind them as the trio made their way out. Rouxls watched the doors closed behind him before turning around to the other two smiling men.
"I...I Hadst a great time tonight. I thank thee and apologise for thine trouble."
"No apologies needed. We might as well get going anyways." He held Mak up. "Plus Jevil is my lift back, these old stitches don't feel like walking all the way back home in the middle of the night." Jevil giggled next to him and nodded.
"Doth thou need me to showest thou where the door is?"
"No worries, no worries. I can teleport anywhere!" Jevil proudly proclaimed and Rouxls smiled even more before bowing his head.
"Then I bid thee both a good night..I shall seest thoust two tomorrow.~"
The two watched as Rouxls turned and made his way down a hallway and what they presumed to be the young king's bedroom...Before Seam turn also and began walking, leaving the sounds of music and laughter behind him, but could feel Jevil right behind him floating. The two went in silence for a moment before Seam finally stopped and inhaled deeply, letting it out slowly and turned to Jevil with a smile. And the imp smiling back the two sharing the same loving thoughts of each other and a certain snow haired duke. He shifted Mak into one arm and held out his paw to the jester. Jevil happily took the paw with a giggle and flush of purple. In a second both were suck up into the void, on their way home after such a loving night.

TASK #11 WRITE A LETTER
triggering / sensitive content warnings: mentions of the army, war, death, depression, anxiety, PTSD.
Dear Gabriel,
I think about that one night all the time; it was quiet, no one else was awake, and you turned to me as we watched the stars and asked, "do you think you'll go home after this?" Back then, I laughed, and told you that I couldn't imagine anywhere that I wanted to go less than home. You asked me why, which was fair, considering all the time that I spent talking about Merrock, the salty sea air, the bonfires in the woods, the lavish parties on New Years Eve that us kids were never invited to, but always dreamed of attending. You couldn't understand why I wouldn't want to go back to that, especially if I had family waiting for me. You told me when we first met that you didn't: that your parents had passed, that you were living with your uncle who tried his best, but didn't know how to be a dad. I felt guilty for feeling like I couldn't go home to my family, to my siblings who had done nothing wrong, to my parents who did love me, even if they showed it in all the wrong ways. I tried to explain it to you, tell you about the pressure and expectations, the shined shoes and the way my mom would lick her thumb to smooth back my hair in church on Sunday mornings. The way my dad would've tanned my hide if he caught me smoking in public, or at one of the parties we attended as kids. You quietly told me that you understood, but I could sense that you were disappointed. We didn't talk much until I asked you where you would go, and you told me anywhere in the mountains. That you'd build a cabin and live off the land, and never go near "another god damn human being for a whole year," and we laughed and shared a swig of the flask you had hidden under the cot and the next day, you were gone.
Next year, it'll be twenty years since you died. Isn't that wild? Twenty years since I was laid up in that field hospital while they pulled shrapnel out of my knee and repaired as much damage as they could. I was too stubborn to go home, too pissed off about what had happened, demanded that they fix me up and get me out of there as soon as possible. You, Jack, Reagan, Daniel; so many of our friends that we sat around with on those long nights, shooting the shit, pretending we were anywhere but there, gone. Sometimes when I'm sitting outside at night, looking up at the stars, I swear you're gonna lean over with that damn flask in your hand and ask if I want a drink, pull some story out of me about learning to catch lobster or shooting a rifle for the first time. People don't get that, how much of that time stays engrained in you, refuses to leave even after all of these years. That's why I don't think my family will ever really understand why I didn't come home.
But I did. I went to Yellowstone first, because I made a promise to you guys during our game of 'anywhere but here' that when I got out, that's where I'd go, and I did. The first year was tough; I was dealing with so much PTSD, anxiety, depression. There were some nights where the only thing I wanted to do was crawl home, give up, let my dad lecture me, my mom slick my hair back, take comfort from my siblings... then my dad wrote me a letter saying how disappointed he was that I didn't 'see it through'; how he had hoped I had been able to retire from the military some day, decorated and honored, serving my country for years to come. I never even told him about the Purple Heart they rewarded me for that day we got attacked. When we got blown to bits. I got help, which was something a lot of the people we served with didn't. I don't know what made me different, what pushed me to do it, but I did, and I'm glad for it, because I was able to go to college, get a degree, become a park ranger. I became a firefighter and saved lives, and I helped people who needed me. I did it for you guys as much as I did it for myself, and even though I didn't go far enough off grid to not see "another god damn human being," I did spend my time in the wild. And then I went home.
I'm writing you this letter from the front porch of my camper. I placed flags on the graves of veterans this morning, shared a conversation about war with an older gentleman who thanked me for my service. I cooked myself dinner, I avoided social media and the news, and I thought about how this day triggered every change we didn't ask for, and decided to write you a letter. A thunderstorm just passed through and you can tell by the change in the air that fall's coming; that the summer season's gone. I'm sure the leaves are going to change soon, we'll probably have more hikers in the park, get more rescue calls out by the falls for people who wore the wrong shoes, or tried to go off the beaten path. But it's okay, because I love the work. They let me start a program this summer for the kids in town, which was so much fun. A couple of afternoons, I even got to bring Rosalyn to help me out. She's my sister's daughter, and her spitting image. I was nervous at first, with Cordelia. She's been through so much since I left home, but she's settling into her life so beautifully now. She has a really steady boyfriend (her high school sweetheart), and just moved into a rental home that's cute and perfect for her -- even has a backyard for Rosalyn. She works at the high school, I think she's kind of like the office boss, but without being the boss, that sort of deal. All I know is she's good at her job. My parents don't talk to her because of how Rosalyn was conceived (long story short, she slept with a married man -- she didn't know, but it's a small town, and people talk), which is their loss. Theo... my older brother. Things are a little more complicated there. We work together at the fire station, since I volunteer -- figured I'd put my training to good use. But where Cordelia was forgiving and eager to have her big brother back, I think it's going to be a longer road for me and Theo. He's married -- also to his high school sweetheart, which makes me think I missed the memo? -- and has two kids. He's also damn good at his job, even if I sometimes laugh under my breath when he's being tough. I mean, I used to make mud pies with him out back when we were kids, it's a weird sort of situation now. I don't think Theo has much of a relationship with my parents, either, so it's pretty much just the three of us. I haven't run into them or made any effort to see them since coming home. They have to know I'm here, by now, but I'm pretty sure they don't care. I guess maybe if I could tell you all of this now, you would have told me with more ferocity that you understand why I said I wouldn't go home.
Or maybe you would've told me to suck it up and reminded me that Cordelia and Theo never did anything wrong, and my place was with them. Catching lobsters and sneaking beer at the bonfire. I probably should've listened to you.
It took me a long time to get right with myself, and to accept that it wasn't wrong of me to be here, that it was okay to be grateful for the fact that I had made it out alive. When they tell you about survivor's guilt and PTSD and all the shit that you deal with after the war, they're not kidding. One night, after a really nice date with a bartender, we were laying in bed, and he asked me about the scars on my knee, if I had gotten into a motorcycle accident or fallen on a hike, what did that much damage. I sat up and showed him the scar on the back of my head (oh, hey, by the way -- I got shot two years after they tried to blow me up) and told him about fighting in the war, and it was really the first time that I had ever been open with someone about my scars, mental and physical. He asked if it had hurt, and I told him that it did, of course it did, but I was glad. Because at least it meant that I had made it trough. And I think ever since I stepped off that plane, that's just what I've been trying to do, is make it through. I want to do right by you, because you were probably my closest friend from the moment we touched down in the dust, and I'm always going to be grateful for that. But I knew part of doing right by you meant going home.
So in another twenty years, maybe I'll write you again, Gabe. Maybe I'll be telling you about my gorgeous chapel wedding to my beautiful bride, or the kid I adopted with my boyfriend. Maybe I'll have built a cabin, or won best pumpkin at the agricultural fair nearby. Or maybe it'll just be me telling you that I'm still at home, and I'm still just trying to make it through. I think you'll appreciate that.
I hope you're resting easy, bub. And passing around the flask.
Hooah.

Writing g/t one piece? *^* how about Law finding an injured/sick tiny?
Here! :D I'll be working on the other request soon :]
(also I might changed a bit the story a bit; Law doesn't find the tinies, one of them comes to him; Sorry that I changed that :'])
It's a bit short though (+ a drawing to see how my oc's actually look like), btw now Law knows how to cook UuU
Anyways enjoy this :)
It was a day like any other on the Polar Tang, the crewmen were doing their thing while Law was in his own room rereading his medical books. And although it could be his imagination, he had spent several days listening to small noises that the submarine usually didn’t make.
If that wasn't enough, every day around the same time, a shiver ran through his entire body. At first, he did not give it much importance, but when it began to repeat itself daily at exactly that same time, he thought that it was not a coincidence.
He put the book aside, ready to leave his room and talk to his crew, he heard a little tapping on the highest shelves. He slowly approached, his hand on his katana for good measure, looking up only to see a small head peek out.
Law stares at it for a moment before speaking. “What the hell? There is no way this is part of my imagination…” “I am very real, mr. human.” Said a small voice of a little girl that seemed to belong to that little head that peeked out.
“I have also heard that you are a doctor, is that true?” the girl asked as she peeked a little further over the edge of the shelf. Law frowned. "Yes, I am the doctor of this submarine, why do you ask and how did you get into my submarine?"
The little girl simply put her finger to her lip and answered. "I don't know how we got in or how long we've been here... But, I was wondering if it was true that you were a doctor, because my older brother's skin is very hot but he says he's cold and I don't know what to do."
"Hmm, it's very likely that he just has a fever, could you tell him to come over?" The girl seemed to hesitate for a moment before nodding and disappearing from sight. “What did I just get myself into…?”
About fifteen minutes passed before two small figures appeared walking across his desk. The so-called brother glared at him coldly before heaving a sigh and sitting down. "Here he is, although it took me a while to convince him, he made me promise that you wouldn’t touch me in any way if I wanted him to come."
Law heaved a sigh as he sat down across from them. "It's okay to be cautious around strangers, so that condition is fine with me." He answered looking at the two. The girl had brown hair tied into two pigtails and was wearing a light blue t-shirt with a blue skirt and brown boots, while a green scarf covered her neck.
The other had short hair the same color, was wearing a baggy white T-shirt, baggy black pants, and brown boots. Like his sister, he wore a green scarf wrapped around his neck. “Are you going to be watching us this whole time or what?” the brother said in a rather rude tone.
The girl looked at Law for signs of anger before saying. “I'm sorry for my big brother, mr. human, it's just that he doesn't like humans…” Law just nodded as he got up from his seat. "I'm going to make some soup for you two, it'll help you warm up a bit."
Half an hour passed before Law returned to the room with two small lids filled with soup. He placed them in front of the little ones as he sat down again in front of them. The brother was the first to take a sip of the soup "Thank you... I guess..." The little girl smiled broadly. "Yeah, Yeah! Thank you very much! By the way my name is Kyoko and his is Kyo, I am seven years old and he is seventeen!”
"Trafalgar Law..." Who knew that now he would have to deal with two little people in his submarine?

MECH A DAY:01 cerberus bio - frame brought you by Ember rose collective
Hey going to be trying my had at doing a thing this month were i try and make a mech or mechanical design a day for this month since I'm tired of not really getting a chance to work on much of the things i want to with stuff. going to try and write up some lore for each of them too don't know if it'll be good but i want to TRY and get better at writing too so this be a way to hit two birds with one stone.
if you like this and want to help me out with making stuff like this and trying to be more creative for myself my kofi and patreon are on the sidebar of my page.
LORE. after there defection during of the first Cradle war the E.R.C was at a loss as to how to process the post war edicts that had been pass down to them by the nova accords. by degree, the pride and face of the E.R.C the RAPTOR-R-BIO-2X was outlawed as well as several of it base technology's. the venerable machine used by the earth collation to savage the many outer colonies and bring about the massacre on dauntless was enough to restrict the broad strokes of the technology but once they found out about the after effects of the full integration interface system on the pilots and how the E.R.C had been complicit in allowing that to happen do to the earths interest for brutal elite soldiers, the nova council almost had most of the board executed and the company dispended. This was initial judgement was walked back after an impassioned speech by the head of the board as well as the reminded that the E.R.C had switch side and provided a series of countermeasures for many of the earths more devastation weapons' and defenses in the towards the end of the war and did allow the company to not be savaged like that of the vanguard technologies or tri-oceanic's group. the trials and meeting of nova council would find much of the tech that the collective had been there cutting edge in the markets of weapons design and planetary colonization had been outlawed by there decree regardless of there own pleas.
unable to move forward with the previous project and not will to rock the boat in the post war period with so many eye on them, the E.R.C decided to work around there current limitations. as while they could not mess the consciousness of pilot and machine, they could at least create a in-between system with the creation of the pseudo-brain. a imperfect creation of a human brain that can be linked up with two other brains into a internal network of a bio-frame. this network will take the imputes from a more standard pilot interface and help to intuit and learned from the pilot making there own reflexes faster and allowing them to quickly react and deal with situations as they com. alongside that the bio-frames biological systems means that normal anti system attacks are near impossible and the collective promises of a the development communication brain has many interest peaked at the prospect of subverting jamming technology. outfitted with a more modest version of the raptors weapons' and lacking many of it biologicals weapons' the Cerberus boasts two high medium particle cannons in two of it arms, another two have a pair nano-seared talons and a small burst laser mounted on it wrist to help add an extra punch while the talons dig into it targets. it armored with a series of light plating and nano fiber layer over top the base bio-frame to give moderate protection to it internal components. to make up for it lack of extreme fire power and armor it predecessor had the Cerberus has been design to have an extreme speed of 97.2 km/h surpassing it predicators 64 km/h as well as being flight capable.
Still the system was not with out it flaws, it still retained the weakness to electrical pulse weapons' that would cause the biological systems to short circlet and finding after the initial test run the engineers sound found that they had a problem as each of the brains after a point would begin to over react with stimulate and run rampant. this rampant while rare is still a major concerns as most are unsure why and how the brain seem to be overloading the other more less know is the brain mimicry of the pilots action seems to represent a problem were some aspect or part of the pilot is being copied over into the brains network. Still the Cerberus has been moved into full production in spite of these problems as well as concerns from any compliance board can be fixed with a bit of economic leveraged as the E.R.C may be humbled the still retain much of the benefits for there time creating the RAPTOR for it time as a primary weapons' manufacturer for the earth collation.
(if there any spelling or grammatical weirdness sorry wrote this all in one sitting before i had to get to work on commissions.)

Chapter Six

Pairing: Haikyuu!! x Fem!Reader

Y/N'S P.O.V.
After raiding the store for food, Bokuto goes back to laying down on the sofa in the bus while Kuroo follows in beside him. Outside in the parking lot, you stand next to Tsukishima.
"So what now?" you ask, squinting through the bright sun. "I suppose we're even."
Tsukishima nods but doesn't say anything for a moment as if he's deciding whether to say something or not. "Are you gonna be okay with that guy for three weeks?" he eventually gives in and asks.
"I'll be fine. He's injured anyway so he can't hurt me even if he wanted to," you assure him.
"What if one of those two finds your shotgun?" he then whispers, taking a step closer to you.
"They won't," you respond confidently. "I buried it under a sweater. They have no reason to go snooping under there."
Tsukishima shakes his head. "You don't know that."
"What do you care? Aren't you in the middle of saying goodbye?" you grumble.
"I think I'm going to stick around for a while. You said you needed the help after all and if something happens to you I get the whole bus to myself," he scoffs.
"What does that mean?" you narrow your eyes at him. "Don't think I trust you alone in there any more than I do them! Besides, there are four of us. I don't need all that help!"
"So?" he shrugs. "It'll be even less work you have to do."
"I don't have enough food to feed four of us! Let alone room in the bus to sleep and live!" you whisper sternly at him.
"I'll go back inside and get a tent then, no big deal."
"Jesus, Tsukishima! We're not at a fucking Walmart, they don't sell tents in convenient stores!" you continue to push.
"Then we'll go to one."
"Fine, if you're so determined to stay then I guess I don't have a choice. But one adventure is enough for me today, we can do that some other time. Tomorrow, if you want," you wave as you walk towards the bus.
"Fine," he grumbles.
"Fine," you huff as you step onto the bus.
Inside, you and Tsukishima stop side by side when you see Bokuto and Kuroo passed out on the couch.
"You see, everything is going to be fine. They're harmless," you tell him quietly.
"I hope you know what you're getting yourself into," he adds.
"You're getting yourself into it, too," you sing as you turn to face him. "We'll be fine. I promise."
Tsukishima nods. "Do you want me to drive us back?" he then asks.
"That'd be great considering I have absolutely no idea where we are..."
"Alright," he sighs. "Let's go."
You toss Tsukishima the keys and he steps over into the driver's seat. You then sit down at your small table with only three chairs and fold your arms to rest your head on. However, the second you fall asleep, Tsukishima pulls the bus back into the spot it had been this morning. Lazily, you lift your head and look out the window to see he's parked it just the way you always keep it- the perfect spot to let the sun through but to protect your goods from the dirt road.
Just then, your stomach rumbles. You remember the rabbit you had left outside of your gate and step outside to go retrieve it. You double-check the lock on your gate- still locked as you had left it- and pick up the small animal. When you turn around to walk back, you see Tsukishima standing just outside the bus door.
You hold up the rabbit by its legs to show him what you'll be having for dinner. "I don't think this is gonna be enough for the four of us but it's fresh so I can't let it go to waste."
Tsukishima lets out a sigh and looks at you with disgust in his eyes. "Do you really know how to cook that thing?"
"Of course I do," you say proudly. "I really hate running to the store alone so I taught myself to use what I can in the forest or the lake back there."
"Lake?!" Kuroo suddenly opens the door and peers out behind Tsukishima.
You smile when you see him step off the bus, forcing Tsukishima to move to the side to make room for him.
"Ooo," he then continues when he spots the dead rabbit in your hand. "What the fuck is that?!"
"Well it was going to be dinner but if nobody else wants it I'll just keep it for myself," your shrug.
"Be my guest," Kuroo nods with his hands on his hips. "You got any fishing poles instead?"
"I've only got one," you say as you point to the small wooden shack next to your garden. "Help yourself. The lake is only a short walk away."
Kuroo thanks you and walks over. Tsukishima shuffles along behind him, not wanting to starve, but not wanting to go off alone with Kuroo either. You do feel a bit bad for putting them to work right away but the food you got at the store isn't all that substantial for meals so it's wise to go out and catch fresh protein, too.
Kuroo is the first to find the fishing net and a small container of worms you had laying nearby which you collected yourself. He then smiles at Tsukishima as he holds out the container towards him. "You wanna carry the bait?" he asks.
"No," Tsukishima mutters as he takes it anyway.
"Have fun!" you wave as Kuroo shuts the shack and the two of them start to walk away. However, you hardly notice the large butcher's knife in your hand as you wave with a huge grin.
Kuroo laughs nervously when he turns back to see you. "You, too," he replies, "but, uh, not that much fun or you'll go to hell for murdering that poor bunny!"
"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!" you shout back, smile still big on your lips.
Kuroo then nudges Tsukishima in the arms to take his eyes off of you. "C'mon, stop staring at her, and let's make tracks before the sun goes down!"

I'm in a writing mood but oops all head empty so I wrote a hypothetical 'good friendsim ending' for my good good boy Baasel. so. heres that.
Baasel looks at you with a soft expression. Honestly, you're not sure if he has an expression other than soft. Unless you count anxious. And even then he's pretty doe eyed. It seems like he had a hard time being firm, which is fair considering what he does as a jadeblood. This part of the cavern is quiet, far from any jade-typical noise (or at least, the noise you'd started to associate with the jades you knew). Baasel looks at you, and then away, and then back at you again.
"I appreciate that ewe want to be friends." he says after a long time. This sounds like the start of a rejection speech to you, so you preemptively brace yourself for whatever terrible fate is about to befall you. "It isn't often that you meet someone who isn't all caught up in quadrant drama. So... it's nice."
Well. You weren't expecting this at all, actually! This was fast! Friendship securely in the bag already! You certainly weren't gonna say no! So you nod eagerly and say something about how quadrants kind of still go over your head because of the whole being an alien thing, but how you like being friends with as many people as you can!
"Hah, well, I can't sympathize with being an alien, but I do get having quadrants be... kind of hard to understand." Baasel glances at the ground at this, fingers twisting in anxious knots. "I have a secret. Promise not to tell?"
Hm. If another friend asked you weren't sure if you'd be able to lie! But you nod again and reassure him that you wont breathe a word of it to anyone else! The phrasing kind of unnerves you, but he'd had about a million chances to kill you already and took none of them! So it was probably okay! You'd just do your best to uphold your end of the deal!
"There's-" he starts, but quickly breaks off, looking anywhere but at you," There's something... wrong with me. That- no, no, that sounds baad. But it's true. And I mean it physically. there's something wrong with me and I can't share what it is out loud because it'll get me culled for sure. But it's there. And I can't change or get rid of it. It's a part of me just as much as anything is."
You aren't really sure you follow, but you listen intently to his every word!
"I don't really... care about quadrants. Or that's what I say out loud, at least. I certainly don't want to be flushed or pitch with anyone. Not... the way you're supposed to be, anyhow. And I'm worried that maybe that's not me talking. That the fact that I don't want to fill those quadrants the way I'm expected isn't because I don't want to feel those things. And maybe it's the fact that there's something wrong with me. Because some part of me is... scared. What if I pass all the wrong along? What if the next wiggler isn't so lucky to have a jade take them in before they get culled? What if they can't hide it like I can and they don't even last a sweep? Or less. Or way less? I-"
He cuts himself off here and it takes all the effort you have in that tiny brain of yours to not fling yourself at him full speed. You're not exactly sure how he'd handle a hug at the moment but you want to do something to comfort him. So you give a little awkward smile and wait for him to keep going. He glances at you and lets out a shaky laugh, rubbing his eyes free of tears before any can fall.
"I just... sometimes I wonder. Worry, really. What if I do want to feel those things? But I wont let myself because I'm just so scared of what might go wrong. But I also- I don't think I want to! I really don't. Not that way. I think- I think every young troll has dreamed about having the perfect matesprit or something, but not every young troll knows everything about what that means. If I ever had one... I think it'd be like that. Something you'd read in stories. Not, um..." his cheeks flush bright, mostly obscured by his glasses, and he presses his hands to his face.
"Not that I think it's baad to have actual flushed or pitch feelings! Of course not! I just don't think... having them that way is for me. But maybe it is and I'm just scared. I've never felt that way before, but maybe I could if I was... normal. If I understood better. I've had trolls assume I had feelings i just... didn't before. It hurts to have to turn them away. Maybe secretly my feelings did match theirs and I was too scared to see it! Maybe my mind is just as messed up as my body."
Obviously, that wont do! You trip all over yourself (metaphorically, but physically doing that is pretty common for you) to try to reassure him that there's nothing you can see that makes him seem wrong. You might just be an alien but you're generally more into friendship, not so much relationships. So you understand! Not totally, obviously, the whole quadrant thing is beyond you, but you know enough from various encounters to understand what "that way" means in context.
You tell him that you think he's pretty cool, if he fills all his quadrants or not! You also say he's a space nun so he probably wont have to do any of that when he's an adult. Or at least you're pretty sure that's what that means, what with your other jade friends with complex feelings.
He laughs a little at this, brushing some hair out of his eyes," Ah, thank ewe. I... appreciate it. Um, I'm probaably not going to be able to do the same thing as the rest of the cloister off-world, but I do appreciate it. Baah- I've never been able to talk about this with anyone else. As- as much as I love my cloister, they aren't... um, well I'm about as old as Lanque and Bronya so... they. We. No one knows. The jades who... kept me from culling, a lovely flushed pair, are long gone. So no one knows that there's anything wrong about me. Which is for the best, but sometimes it's hard. Even when a lot of them don't, they still... the rest of the cloister still has the option to talk to someone. I don't. I can't tell any other trolls about this. But you... aren't a troll. So it's nice. To be able to say it. Even if I can't really say it."
You can't say that you totally understand, but you listening seems to have cheered Baasel up a lot! Which you take as an absolute win! You tell him that if he ever needs someone to talk about all this stuff with again, you'd be more than happy to! Even if you don't completely get it, you want to make your friend happy! You also want to convince him that there really isn't anything wrong with him.
He smiles at you and you're once again struck with the dullness of his fangs. Part of you wonders if that's the thing that's wrong with him, but that wouldn't make any sense, right? Besides, they look kind of like they were made dull. Had he done that himself? Come to think of it, his claws weren't particularly sharp either. That seemed like it was probably pretty dangerous on Alternia. Maybe it was to protect himself, but you felt kind of like that'd just make him more of a target. He did say he didn't leave the caverns often, though. It probably wasn't very friendly to think about what was wrong with your friend, though! Oh, yeah, that was probably not great! At least he can't read your thoughts, what a rude thing to think!
"I probaably understand friendship about as well as ewe understand quadrants, which is... baarely," He starts, a little awkward," but I think I'd be more than happy to call you mine, if that's alright with ewe."
You nod vigorously, yes of course you'd like to be his friend!! It's all you want, actually! Your heart is beating out of your chest, you feel almost like you could faint! Oh, a friend who only wants to be a friend? That sounds great to you! No strings attached, just pure, unrelenting philia, baby!
Once again, it takes everything in your tiny alien brain to not leap at him and pull him into a hug! But as it turns out you don't have to! Because he hugs you instead! He seems a little unsure if he's allowed to do that at first, but you're so caught up in the thrill of almost-normal friendship things that you throw your arms around him tight! He bleats in alarm before settling into the hug.
"Ewe really are kind of baaffling," he mumbles. His horns are poking into your body where he's resting his head on your shoulder, but like his fangs and claws, they seem a little duller than you expect! So you're more than willing to bear it for your new friend! "Not in the baad way, of course! Ewe being different is... a welcome change of pace. I- um... thank ewe. For being my friend. It's... nice."

on the one hand, i want to just leave everything behind
on the other, if i leave the cats with my lunatic parents they'll die because my father is a monster and my mother is an enabler
but if i bring them then my parents will absolutely try to hunt me down to get them back
if i tried to get them in trouble for animal abuse the poor things would have even more insecurity and potential death to deal with
i am officially breaking down. i can't do this. it's not even close to the first time this sort of shit happens either
i don't really care about my mother anymore, i haven't for a long time. if she decides to not leave my dad, that is her prerogative. my sister is the one promising to help, i don't even want to see these people once I'm able to
but these cats are the only thing in this rotten place i care about. the sheer idea of them being hurt makes me panic
once i leave, if i don't risk everything by taking them, i will never be in peace because the only thing standing between the blatant abuse and the poor cats is usually my sister
so they'll get hurt or even die
and it'll be my fault
because i'm stuck with the burden of fixing the damn harm those two cause, and if i don't do what i can to stop it it's my fault
everything ends up being my fault even though i'm only like this because i'm the tapestry of their mistakes, i never wanted to even be born at all
i don't even have anyone to talk to about this. because i'm always alone. i only really manage either to have people be forced to get along with me, or enjoy my company because i wore my masks well enough to pass as nice or good
and the one person that i even think about being honest with is my friend that i still have to lie to, who lives cities away, and isn't even particularly helpful when i try to confide
i knew he'd get sick of me but how quickly it happened is like a twist of the knife
i want to be positive about the friend group i found myself entering but i know I'll end up failing at some point and they'll lose interest because that's what happens to me, every time
i think I'll hope to find enough funny things saved in my gallery to spare some sanity to go straight to bed. right now all i want is a hug i'll never get, so alternative methods it is

Today's Topic: Depression/Trying
*DISCLAMER!!! I will be talking about some heavy things today regarding depression and suicide. If you are feeling triggered or uncomfortable please pass by this blog, thank you!!!!*
Today's topic is something I am currently going through right now. Hence, why I didn't post yesterday. Shit can creep up on you and you don't even know it. I have seen a pattern with myself on this. I have at least 5 days of crack head energy, then followed by a few days of what I call "Down Time".
The definition of depression coming from mayoclinic.org states:
"Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems."
This is exactly what I go through on my down days. I had no interest of doing anything. I could finish barely anything I started yesterday. I've been doing this blog daily, and I had a hiccup where I didn't write shit. My whole routine was thrown off. The only thing I did successfully was take a nap, and sometimes that's needed with how fast I go through my days.
I know a lot of us feel this way, and I used to hate myself for feeling like a lazy piece of shit; because that's what depression makes you look like. It's a real disease, and I've been dealing with it all my life. I've tried medicine, I'm about to go back into therapy, and I have prayed to my almighty God to rid me of this. Sometimes, it doesn't feel like anything is changing. I do have to remind myself that since I'm getting clean, my depression will come and attack at times when I'm not prepared. And that falls into the second part of this topic, trying.
This morning, I woke up with all the energy because it's my 1 year anniversary with my boyfriend. I don't want to feel down and crappy, so I have to TRY. And trust me, I will try with all my might for this man to have an amazing day with me. All we have to do, is try. Every day, all day long. Some days, it's okay to rest it out and let yourself cry and feel. But like I've mentioned in previous blogs, we can't sit in the sadness for too long, or it'll consume us. I am thankful I know my pattern, so I can recognize when I need to have a little bit of "Down Time". I am thankful that my boyfriend is so supportive of me, especially in those hard times, because we need support to help build us back up.
A few times in the last month or so, I have had creeping thoughts of suicide, due to feeling like I will never recover from my disease. I know that it's the devil and my disease speaking, when it's things like that. But we cannot afford to think of this as just a silly, stupid, thought. I know some of us have lost loved ones to suicide, and it wasn't silly or stupid to them. I have been on the edge of suicides cliff before. MANY TIMES, more times then I'm comfortable sharing. I know the last time I OD'ed on percocets, I was almost closer to death than I would've liked. I remember feeling the blackness and loneliness of it all. It's not a pretty place to be. I know the feeling of wanting to die, and not wanting to deal with anything anymore. It seems like it's an easy ticket out, but it is a bittersweet, black, promise of nothing.
I have tried to kill myself since I was 13 and up. I have tried many ways to end my pain in ways you wouldn't imagine. I have been to rehab and facilities because I was suicidal. When I went to jail for the first time, they put me on suicide watch because I told them I was going to hang myself with my clothes. The last time I went to jail for my DUI, I literally crashed my car into someones wall, TRYING to kill myself. I remember waking up in the car, after the impact, and was pissed at God for letting me have to deal with the consequences to come.
I was TRYING in all the wrong ways. I kept wondering why I was so depressed all the time, not knowing I was continuing to do it to myself, and never seeking help. And when I did go to rehab and the facilities, I wasn't receptive to the help. Usually, when I went to rehab, it was because I didn't want to deal with life, people and things. I felt that rehab was a little mini vacation, when I should've been using it for its resources.
Life is so much more beautiful when you find things or people to live for. This is where the trying comes in. You have to try to get up in the morning, you have to try to be social at work if you have to be, you have to try to be a friend, mom, husband, co-worker, or family member. And all this trying can be tiring, I get it. BUT, I would much rather be tired in trying my best, than to be dead and not have a chance to better things. I was at that point a lot of times in my life, and I'm thankful I was never successful in that because my life is amazing now and I'm starting to really love myself.
Depression is always going to be there for me, or maybe it'll disappear one day. But until then, I will try. Just for today, I will try, and the next day and so on. When people say, "Take one day at a time.", it holds a lot of truth to it. Think of only today and how you want to get through that.
Exercise for today's topic:
When I'm feeling depressed I love to do something active to keep my mind busy. I've been doing dance since I was a little girl, so I love doing dance workouts, at home exercises, or making my own choreography. As the reader, you have many options to be active with something that fits your liking and schedule. Take a minute and go on a walk, enjoy the life and beauty around you, or go on a bike ride! Clean your house while listening to your favorite songs. Sing loudly and don't care who's listening. Be outrageous in a good way. Scream at the top of a mountain you just climbed. Don't let depression creep it's way into you and lay anchor. LETS LIVE!!!
Thank you again for following this blog and for reading some heavy stuff with me today. If you or anyone is feeling like they need some help or assistance, the suicide hotline number is 988. Feel free to use that at any time or pass this along to someone who needs it. We all need help sometimes, and shouldn't be ashamed to ask!!
Feel free to message me directly for topics you want covered or email me at [email protected].
HAVE AN AMAZING FRIDAY AND HUG YOURSELF!!!!!!!

"Oak! Come back here," Jude's voice carried through the palace. Despite years of dealing with stubborn faes in the council, eliciting orders to soldiers and servants alike and talking down to her subjects as Cardan does, her voice was steady, even and almost sweet as she yelled after her little brother.
Little brother. The thought seemed out of place. In his years in the mortal world, Oak had a growth spurt, while she remained the same. Young, not yen an adult, yet passed through much more than her elders could claim to.
"No!" Oak shouted back, though he stopped in the middle of the throne room. "No," and he turned back to Jude, walking fast with his now bigger, stronger goat legs. "You promised me I won't have to take over if I don't want to. Well, guess what, Jude? I don't!"
He didn't tower over her like she expected. His bent knees cutting from his height. But Oak, the boy she used to lean down to hug and kiss on top of his horned head, still stood taller than her at the throne's dais.
"You should have taken it in writing, little brother." Cardan chimed in, bemused. A glare from his wife shut him up, though still smirking, and the High King opened a second bottle of wine.
"Oak," Jude begin again. "I know it's not ideal. When all this started, you were so young. I get it's a little scary and overwhelming. But it's your birthright..."
"It's Cardan's birthright too." Oak protested, crossing his arms over his chest after pointing a hand towards the King sitting on the throne's dais. His tail bounced left and right in amusement as he raised the bottle towards his half brother and gulped down a mouthful of wine.
"Speaking of Cardan," Jude seized the opportunity, "he didn't want to be High King either. But he got used to it. He came to like it. Tell him, oh, dear husband." The look the High Queen gave her lover contradicted her words, for nothing short of a clear threat shone in her eyes. The fae just smiled to himself, used to his wife's antics. He made a show of getting up on his feet, taking a few steps forward with his normal care free elegancy, when Oak's words stopped him.
"If he likes it that much, why can't Cardan still be King? I thought you liked to be Queen, too, Jude. Don't you?"
Both the warrior mortal and the peaceful fae stood glued in their places. Perplexed. Twenty years ago, when she started her ascension to the throne, Jude did so with only one purpose in mind: put that crown on Oak's head. Every decision she made, each plotting and scheming should have led to the celebration of High King Oak of Greenbriar line. Didn't it?
Now that she thought about it, things changed. Jude couldn't say when or how exactly. But at some point between then and now, she started to see herself as the real queen. High Queen in her right, not just a replacement until Oak is old enough.
Maybe it was when she choose to love Cardan and he made her his equal by splitting the throne in two ostentatious ones right in the middle of the room. Maybe it was when the Court of Shadows gifted her the title as a nickname. Jude wouldn't admit even to herself how much though she'd given to that afterwards. Or maybe it was recently, in the years after breaking Cardan's curse. Years spent ruling together, bringing up a better Elfhame than either of them grew up in.
As for Cardan, the High King's eyes darted to the crown, fingers itching to pick it up and place it atop his head. To give it a light push so it'd lean on one side, but never falling. As if it clinged to him. As if it chose him.
It's true, the youngest prince - as he thought himself for so long - never craved the throne. Why would he? He was the least favorite child, not good enough to deserve their father's attention. His mother's love. So how could he be a good king? But after Jude tricked him and all Elfhame bowed to him, looked up to him, something shift inside him. Cardan actually enjoyed the process of thinking through a court scheme. The insides of a carefully given order - a pawn in a bigger game. He found it entertaining to search ways to deal with the council, to make them bow to his whims. And when he married Jude and those whims matured into interests, well, building a kingdom of dreams none he or his wife dared to ever hope for, leaving such a legacy behind, he, Cardan Greenbriar, the pitiful prince, it felt right.
"You don't wish to rule, Oak?" Cardan asked, more concern than he ever spoke with lacing his voice.
"No! Never did, never will."
Jude could recognize a bit of Vivi in the way Oak said it, rolling his eyes and putting accent on certain vowels. But Vivi insisted it wasn't unusual in the mortal world, humans using this sort of speech all the time. Thinking about it, seeing her little brother clear for the first time she summoned him in Fairyland, Jude realized Oak would look out of place in fae's clothes. The green hoodie he wore and dark grey jeans fitted him perfectly.
"But would you be alright there? Hiding your real self, your magic?"
"I'm not hiding, Jude," Oak's voice softened. His big sister didn't want to ruin his life. She was looking after him, his happiness in the only way she knew how. The Fae way. "I mean, yes, people see what I want them to, what with the glamour and all. But it doesn't mean I don't get to be myself. I go to college, you know? Herbologist," he chuckled to himself. "I like it. I have friends, and... and one day, when I'll meet my Heather, then I'll skip to telling her the truth and... I don't know what then, but it'll be fine. I'll be fine, Jude. I promise."
It took several minutes for Jude to reply. She eyed Oak the entire time, her mind swerling, trying to keep up with the speed of her thoughts. Eventually, she saw his truth, just like when she faced hers own: she wouldn't fit in the mortal world, she loved Cardan, she was the High Queen. And Oak? Oak would make a great herbologist - whatever that was - because he doesn't fit in Elfhame anymore. And she won't be the one to crush him or his hopes.
She nodded her head, Cardan's cue to drop a silly, drunk-like, huge smile and take the crowns in his hands.
"Promise you'll visit, though."
It was Oak's turn to nod, a grin pulling his lips upward. "Of course. I can stay for dinner, if you promise not to offer me a court or something."
Jude laughed. "I think we can do that." She turned to her husband, who hummed distracted and tucked a loose strand behind her year, putting extra effort in to trace the soft, round edge of it with his fingers. Cardan, then, crowned her, tilting his head. To no one's surprise his own tolkien of kinghood didn't fell, despite its crooked position.
"Unless a gift is required by tradition, brother dearest," Cardan said, "fret not. You'll be seeing nothing from us." And without waiting to see if Oak is following, he spooned his wife, his queen, in his arms, leading her to the dining table. All the way there, the king peppered his heart's chosen one with kisses, whispering promising for the night. Silk words about a royal celebration in their suit and implications of a new heir to the throne, now that the one they'd planned for decided to go to a mortal college and stay there.
Oak smiled. Truthfully and heartfully. No, he won't be High King. But he felt like he owned the whole world hours later, when he got back to his dorm and picked up his pen to write some notes on next friday's homework.

Up in Smoke- Chapter 1.3
Masterlist
Warning- Usual PB violence and swearing
Tumblr media
Day's had passed since we talked to Kimber. Tommy wasn't too pleased with my random outbursts. Tommy had a meeting with 2 men this morning at the Garrison. I wasn't allowed to go with him. I knew he'd tell me about it when he got home. Polly walked into the kitchen with a nervous look in her eyes.
"What is it?"
"Ada is getting married today."
"So Freddie did come back?"
"No one told you?"
"No. I'm the forgotten child."
"Oh shush." She smirked as she sat down with a cup of tea.
Tommy walked into the kitchen a couple hours later. Polly glanced at me then to him.
"Are you armed?"
"No."
"Then I'll tell you. Ada and Freddie Throne were married today. They defied your orders, they haven't left the city." He walked around the room.
He grabbed the back of the chair he stood in front of with a long sigh.
"I'll deal with it. Thomas, I'll deal with it."
"Where are they?"
"Freddie's comrades have safe houses. Why do you want to know?"
"I want to send them flowers. Why do you think?"
"Would it be so bad if they stayed?"
"I promised I'd run Freddie out of town."
"Promised who?" I asked as I stood up.
Polly closed the doors to the shop.
"I told the coppers Freddie wouldn't come back. It was part of the deal."
"What bloody deal? What happened to family votes? What happened to meetings? If you let me deal with Ada and Freddie, it'll end in peace. Christ knows you have had your fill of war." It was dead silent for a moment.
Tommy took a step closer to Polly. "You get Freddie out of town, Pol. Or else I'll deal with him myself." He walked out of the shop. Polly went to talk with Freddie hours later. She was going to give them two hundred pounds. She also booked them tickets to New York.
I would love to go to New York. Or America in general. Anything to get out of Small Heath for a little while. Tommy and I walked to the suit shop. We were picking up our free suits. Kimber walked up behind us. The man helping us grew nervous.
"Please, gentlemen and lady. No fighting in here."
"It's alright. I come as a friend." The man ran off.
Tommy looked at the rack of suits then back at Kimber.
"You're collecting your suit for Cheltenham, it's very nice."
"How the bloody hell do you know?"
"I know a lot of things, Mr. Kimber. As I told you before, I know the Lee brothers. And I know they're going to be at the races as well. "
"Yes. They're going to lose a lot of money on fast women and slow nags."
"No. They're planning on showing up in numbers and robbing your bookies. Running chalk and rafflers."
"You think I can't handle the Lees?" He scoffed as he glared at Tommy.
"Just a word of warning from a friend. That's all." We started to walk away. "See you at the races."
"I'll wave at you from my box. Bring that pretty barmaid of yours."
"Alright invited," Tommy shouted as we walked out.
People were everywhere in the street. They nearly knocked both of us over. We were walking past the Garrison when John shouted to us. When John walked up next to us, Tommy asked,
"What the hell's been happening?"
"The police just raided a rally at the factory. You think Freddie Thorne is back?"
"I know he is and he's with Ada. How hard can it be to find the only girl in Birmingham with four-inch heels?"
"She's with the commies. They have rat holes all over the city."
"I just want to know where she is."
"One of you'd best have a word with Arthur as well."
We all stopped walking, "what happened?"
"He's got the Flanders Blues again."
"I'll go talk to him. Is he in the church?" John nodded before I walked off.
I walked into the empty church to see him sitting alone. The only source of light was the burning candles. A bottle of booze sat next to him. I slowly sat down next to him on the pew.
"People keep asking me questions that I don't know the answer to. Is it true your Ada got married? I say, I don't know. Where is she living now? I don't know. Arthur, who killed Paddy from the Black Swan. I go, what Paddy? They say, is it you Peaky Blinders who stole the guns from the BSA?" My eyes grew wide as I looked at him.
Tommy never told him.
"What guns, Anna?"
"After your beating, Tommy thought you needed a break."
"What bloody guns, Anna?" I flinched at his sudden outburst.
I softly put my hand on his shoulder to steady him.
"Arthur, we were going to tell you."
"You were gonna tell me." He tried pulling away from me.
I grabbed tightly onto his other arm. "Arthur, please. Listen to me. You boys have had a hard couple years. We all know you have. You need to rest. Tommy says we had some luck. It fell right onto our laps. All you need to know is, it's us that had the machine guns now. And it's them that's in the mud. Alright?" I let go of him.
He looked away from me. He put his head down. "Come on, we have a surprise for you," I stood up with a smile. He stood up too, grabbing the bottle of booze. We walked to the Garrison with our arms linked together. When we walked in, Tommy was waiting for us. We walked up next to him at the counter.
Arthur looked around the room.
"A surprise? Where is she?"
"What is it you've always wanted, Arthur? Eh? When we were in France you used to say, when I get back to England I want to own me own pub. Well..." He held his hands out, motioning to the building.
"Now you've gone soft. You've gone soft, Tommy. How do we know it's for sale?"
"Everything's for sale to us. We're making a lot of money these days. We need a legitimate business to pass the money from the shop."
"I wouldn't know what to do."
"You spent two-thirds of your life in pubs. Just pour it instead of drinking it."
"But I can still drink it, right?"
"Your pub, you do what you want." I smiled at their happiness.
"Congrats on our pub," I cheered as I hugged Arthur. Harry walked out from out back. "Ah! Sorry, gentlemen and lady. I didn't hear you come in. What can I get ya?" Tommy turned around with a tiny smile creeping up on his lips. Within the hour, the pub was Arthur's.
I took the whole day off of work the next day. I needed time to relax and do nothing. I finished 2 books throughout the day. I was going to need something thicker to last me. I was sitting in the living room with Finn and Polly when Tommy walked in. He talked to Freddie earlier today.
They weren't leaving the city so matter what. They wanted to stay here. At least, he wanted to stay here. I don't think it mattered what Ada wanted. He walked out after flopping the money and the ticket on the table. My bedroom door opening woke me up. I had no idea who was coming into my room at this time of night.
When my eyes adjusted, I could see it was Tommy. He was slipping off his boots by the door. He laid down next to me on my bed.
"Danny just left. I couldn't get back to bed."
"How is he doing?"
"His normal self." He looked at the ceiling.
Danny was Tommy's war friend. They both were diggers. Danny's PTSD was far worse than the boy's. He would go into these violent episodes. I've witnessed a few of them. During one of his attacks a few weeks ago, he killed a man. Tommy made a deal with him.
He was going to 'kill' him. He shot him in the back of the head with a bullet full of sheep's brain to make it look real. It was a perfect idea. Now Danny was doing work for Tommy in London or something.
I looked over at Tommy.
"What's wrong, Tommy?"
"Sometimes I lay awake at night, staring at the wall. I can hear the shovels and picks getting closer and closer. I wait for them to break the wall down and kill me."
"Oh, Tommy. You're safe here. Those men are far from you." He looked up at me with teary eyes.
After a little while of talking, we both fell asleep. We had to be up early in the morning for the races. I woke up before he did so I made 2 cups of tea. I brought them back to my room for us to enjoy when he wakes up. I didn't think he would drink it but I definitely needed it. I sat in a velvet chair in the corner of the room to read some of my books. I figured now I had the time so why not use it.
Tommy woke up 2 hours later after stirring for a while. "Good morning, there's a fresh pot of coffee made." I said without looking up from my book. I looked up when I heard what sounded like a sob come from him. I closed my book to walk over to him. He was sitting at the edge of his bed with his head in his hands. I softly sat down next to him.
I wrapped my arms around his shoulders. He held him there for a while. "Everything is going to be ok, Thomas. You are going to be ok. I promise you that," I mumbled. He didn't say anything back. When he stopped crying, we both got up.
I had to start getting ready for the races too early in the morning. I was barely even awake as I was putting my makeup on. John, Finn, Arthur and I met up with a group in Charlie's yard. John walked over to us with his arms open to show off his suit. I groaned as I looked at him,
"John, I told you I was wearing grey."
"Well I look better in it."
"You wish, sweetheart." He nudged me as we stood there.
Arthur hopped on a box to talk to everyone. He cleared his throat to get everyone's attention.
"This is known as your final briefing before going over the top. Sixty miles down that road is Cheltenham racetrack. John, what is our mission, boy?"
"To stick it to the Lee family, Arthur!" I didn't share their excitement.
There was nothing to be excited about. We were going to be possibly killing a man and taking his money. We were then giving it to a man all of us hated. Arthur started speaking again.
"That's right. The Lee's are skimming money off the legal bookies. Running chalk, selling rafflers, then beating them up as they won't buy. But today, we're going to stop them."
"What about Kimber's men? I thought he had his own protection."
"He let his troops go rotten. They're on the take from the Lees to look the other way. We're gonna show Kimber how it should be done. Now take what you're good at. Those of you with guns, keep them out of it. Unless a gun is pulled on you. We want this done quietly."
"When do we share half the cash?"
"We don't. We aren't keeping the cash."
"Anna's right. No keeping the cash. You're in Tommy's army now, boys. Trust only kin." All of us packing into the truck.
I sat in the back of the truck with everyone else. I had to keep an eye on Finn. I was surprised he was coming with us. I didn't mind it if he stayed out of trouble. I guess he was just happy to be involved. We located the man we needed in the men's bathroom. Everyone but Finn and I went inside.
We could hear screaming coming from inside. Arthur came out with the bags of money. I was going to help him get them to Tommy. He was going to give all the money to Kimber. He was with Grace today. They were sitting with Kimber and his assistant. Tommy was on the other side of the door when we opened it. "We chased the Lees across the track and down to Devon road. We got every penny back." We hurried off before anyone noticed what was going on.
We had a little bit of time to enjoy ourselves. We stood with the others to have a fancy drink. It was nice that Tommy bought us all drinks whether he wanted to or not.

A Zutara fic request you say?!
I don't know what ratings you're comfortable with, but I've always wanted a modern college au where Katara is a regular at the Jasmine Dragon and interacts with Zuko a lot (who may or may not kinda dislike each other based on one bad experience) and meet anonymously on an online forum. They chat for weeks totally unaware of who they're talking to until Toph dares Katara to send a risqué photo, and Zuko immediately recognizes who exactly he's been chatting with. Things get awkward, apologies are made, and boom! Romance commences for these dorks.
Or just an awkward and romantic tea shop au. 😅
It had been weeks since Zuko saw Katara. The last time being the art exhibition he told her about during her shift at his favorite coffee place. Between classes and his side graphic design projects, he didn't really have much of a social life. So meeting her was a breath of fresh air and one he found he needed more frequently.
As soon as Zuko got home, he decided to turn on his laptop and play this fighting game him and Sokka play occasionally. He entered the chat room and found he had a friend request. Before clicking "add", he decided to look at the person's profile. They were his age and a girl. This is interesting, he thought. It wasn't that it was unusual for girls to play this game, but it wasn't common either. Squaring his shoulders, Zuko decided to type a "Hey, what's up" to get the conversation started. A minute later and a response came saying, "Lol, hey yourself." And from there, the conversation lasted about 5 hours and Zuko honestly couldn't say he hated it.
BlueSpirit427: so whats your family like
PaintedLady7: I have an older brother, grandma, and dad. Mom passed when I was 8.
BlueSpirit427: I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked
PaintedLady7: no it's fine. I mean, it's normal to ask questions like that, right?
BlueSpirit427: yeah but I've only known you for a few hours lol
PaintedLady7: well true. How about this...we ask each other stuff and that way it'll be even
BlueSpirit427: if it works for you then it works for me. You okay with that?
PaintedLady7: um, yeah. I'm the one who asked you that, lol
Zuko mentally face palmed himself for saying that. Of course she's okay with it, dumbass! He quickly responded with an apology and it went on from there.
The next day, Zuko went back online to see if that girl was online. She was. He found himself smiling which was weird for him. The only girl that ever made him smile like that was Katara and he barely knew her.
PaintedLady7: you live near Dai Li Airport right? I'm not too far from there so why don't we meet up? Tomorrow at 4pm? By the tea shop next to the coffee place
Holy shit! She wanted to hang out with him?! Oh Agni, please save me, Zuko internally screamed.
BlueSpirit427: yeah let's do it, lol. Just give me the address and we're good
PaintedLady7: awesome! Hey, is it weird I've never seen you before? I just wanna make sure you're legit
BlueSpirit427: I get it, but I promise you we're around the same age and I'm not some creep.
PaintedLady7: alright, I trust you. Which is weird bc I hardly ever trust people these days
BlueSpirit427: well count me as one of the people you can trust
PaintedLady7: ok, well I gotta go do homework so....see you later?
BlueSpirit427: yup, goodnight
PaintedLady7: :)
Zuko saw the green icon near her name turn red, meaning she was offline. He yawned and shut his laptop closed. He walked into the kitchen to grab a snack but saw Haru near the pantry eating the last one.
Zuko pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance. "Every single time, Haru! You always eat up the graham crackers."
He looked away, sheepishly, "Sorry, these are so good that I just couldn't help myself."
With a sigh, Zuko turned away from his roommate and went back to his room. He'd deal with that traitor later. Turning off his light, he couldn't help but feel excited for tomorrow.
____
Katara tied her long, thick hair back into a ponytail then headed out.
The sun was exceptionally bright today. She made sure to put on her sunglasses to shield her eyes, but also as a fashion statement.
She would be lying if she said part of her didn't worry about this little get-together. She never met the guy before and quite frankly she was sick of dealing with dishonest guys. Haru made her promises all the time and never kept his word. Jet on the other hand....
Let's not talk about Jet.
She headed up the stairs to make it to the Jasmine Dragon, the best tea shop around. She took her phone out, trying to send a quick text to the guy, asking if he was there yet when she bumped into someone.
"Oof, sorry—"
"Ah, my bad."
The two looked at each other. The guy had a scar on his face. Realization suddenly kicked in.
"Zuko?"
Zuko's eyes widened when he saw who he bumped into. "Katara?"
She pulled her purse strap closer on her shoulder. "What are you up to? Haven't seen you in forever."
Zuko rubbed his neck sheepishly, "A little this, a little that."
What was that?! What are you, twelve? He inwardly cursed, cringing at his response.
Katara laughed, "Still interesting, I see."
He chuckled. "Yeah, well, I'm supposed to be meeting someone here today. Like, right now."
"Oh? Me too! What a coincidence!"
Zuko rubbed his neck again, something Katara noticed him doing whenever the silence between them grew awkward.
"Uh, well. Would you like to join me for a cup of tea while we wait for our people to show?"
Zuko nodded, "Yeah, I mean, that'd be great."
They spent the next hour chatting about random things, oblivious to the time and the fact that neither of their respective people showed up yet.
"So wait, your uncle owns both the tea and coffee shops?"
Zuko sipped his hot leaf juice, as he called it. "Yeah. I mean, don't get me wrong, tea is his first love but he found that coffee is just as good."
Katara hummed, sipping her raspberry tea. "What you said before, about your family...that must be tough. Sorry you have to go through that."
Zuko shrugged. "It happened a long time ago," he took another sip of the warm liquid, "what about your family?"
Katara noticed the change in subject but didn't comment on it. "I have my older brother, grandma, and dad. Mom died when I was 8."
Zuko froze. He heard that same thing from the person he was talking to online. He decided to take the risk of looking stupid and asked, "Do you know someone named PaintedLady?"
Katara's eyes widened. Then she sat there until the pieces of the puzzle came together. "You—you're BlueSpirit?"
Zuko sat back, mouth agape in shock. "You mean all this time..."
Katara bursted out laughing, holding her stomach. "Zuko, we're so stupid!"
Zuko tried to hold it in, but hearing her laugh made all his worries go away instantly. A giggle escaped his lips until they were both crying from the sudden realization.
"That was so funny," Katara said, wiping the tears from her eyes.
And they became best friends because of it.
