MERROCK TASK #18 HOME SWEET HOME

This month's task is going to be an easy but fun one. Take the month to put together a moodboard and share any information about your character's home in Merrock. This doesn't have to just be nine photos of a house that you picked off of Zillow, either -- it could be something like the dishes they use in their kitchen, what their closet looks like, the color of their bedding, any kind of details that you want to include to make it as personalized as possible to your character! And you're welcome to write a little description about their home, as well, if you want to add more details. As usual, tag it with #merrocktask! And remember: save it for a rainy day, there's no rush, and tasks don't count as activity.

MERROCK TASK #18 HOME SWEET HOME

Growing up in Merrock, Cage was born and raised in a gorgeous farmhouse that's been in his family for decades. Once he was ready to strike out on his own, he moved into a small cabin at the back of his family's property, and then, an 1880s farm house on twenty-one acres in the countryside of Merrock. This house has been a labor of love, painstakingly restoring the four bedroom, three bathroom, two-car-garage farmstead to livable conditions while keeping as much of it historically accurate as possible, and maintaining the farm grounds surrounding it.

Although it's a work in progress for his family, it has room for everyone, plus space to grow. A lot of the original features are still in the home, such as the working fireplaces, the large staircases, the brass fixtures on the doors and windows, ceiling beams, and of course, the hardwood floors. A lot of the furnishings are handmade by Cage, with the rest being thrifted and hand-selected by the Newmans from different places in town. As far as the aesthetic, it's very tasteful and classic, with some modern touches where they need it, with live plants and a few antiques and family photos occupying the shelves and walls.

Cage's favorite part of the home is the outdoor space. It sits on twenty one acres, up a hill from the road, affording them with a lot of privacy. There's a large barn, a chicken coop, greenhouse and garden space, as well as plenty of farming fields (which Cage plans to rent out to local farmers to help with their crop), and forests to explore, as well. Overall, it's a very relaxing, picturesque kind of property where he knows he can happily live for the rest of his life.

MERROCK TASK #18 HOME SWEET HOME

Nari's parents bought this home built in the late 1800s by a Swedish architect when they first moved to Merrock. Luckily for her, despite years away from town, she was able to purchase it not long after she moved back, and dust and polish it back into shape. The house has one large bedroom and bathroom downstairs, and two bedrooms upstairs that could be used for absolutely anything. The downstairs living area is made up of a kitchen, dining room and living space, which opens up to a patio by the wild flower fields.

Working carefully to restore the space, Nari has turned the upstairs into a guest space on one side, and sewing studio on the other... although often, the guest space is filled with dresses and materials, anyway. The barn out back hosts some chickens, but has largely been converted into entertaining and studio space, for when she's feeling creative, or wants some extra space to stretch her legs. There's also a lot of outdoor space, whether it be patios or yard, and of course, room for the chickens to roam.

As far as aesthetics go, Nari is very into florals and rustic decor. Almost every room in her house has flowers or plants, whether it be an accent wall, vases, or even something like her dishes or the blankets she uses on her furniture. She likes light linens, would prefer to layer her bedding, and has a mostly white-washed house... with really cute wallpaper! For the most part, the house is really organized and tidy... but with magazines laying on the table, or a pair of slippers tucked under the couch, a glass or two left on the table. Oh, and the sewing room? Only go in there if you have an appointment, otherwise, is looks like a disaster hit it!

Aisha really hadn't had any permanent plans to settle in town, saying she was just visiting, staying in between Inns or short term rentals for a while. But as soon she began to put roots down to become a Merrockite, she began to look for somewhere a bit more stable to stay in. She wanted to live near the coast, drawn to being just a walk away from the water, and was lucky enough to find roommates who also wanted to put in for a beach home near the coast. Her style and personal aesthetic comes through in little ways in the house, whether through a funky lamp, flower coasters, or any art she picked up whether through local artists, or any small businesses. You can also find scattered books or things she thought she misplaced around the common areas of the house, promising she'll remember next time she passes by (she almost always forgets). She's very into the bohemian, earthy sort of vibe. And her bedroom is full of color. She has her own mini-library (as well as an endless stack of a TBR pile on her nightstand), as well as a desk for when she wants to work from home. She likes low maintenance house plants as well, but her and Darrius are attempting to garden outdoors during the upcoming spring season. She tries to collaborate on decorations in the house with the others, but she likes the funky mix of aesthetics all of her roommates bring to the table.

MERROCK TASK #18 HOME SWEET HOME

Elliot has recently purchased his dream home just last year. It's a remodeled farmhouse, with four bedrooms, and three baths. Sitting on five acres of land with a pond, chicken coop, and outdoor area for entertaining. The first floor has original beams running along the ceiling and hardwood floors throughout.

He has a more mixed sense of style, between keeping things simple and clean looking with also decorating with personal touches and things that mean a lot to him. Family pictures are placed throughout his house and it's no surprise to find some sign language art work displayed as well. Elliot has settled on more nature inspired colors, sage greens, and light blues making up most of the color in his house. Keeping it quite natural looking with the wood. However, one thing that was incredibly important to Elliot was to give Sawyer the perfect nursey, adding a bit of pop and character to the home.

There are also several large bookcases that are completely filled and even a small reading nook on the second floor. Perfect for those rainy Maine days of curling up with a book and cup of coffee. It's truly the perfect place for Elliot, one where he knows he will not only raise his kids in, but live rest of his life at as well.

MERROCK TASK #18 HOME SWEET HOME

Home is a bit of a loaded word for Lucie. The apartment she moved into at the beginning of April doesn't feel so much like a home yet. (At least not like the old farmhouse does.) But she welcomes breaking it in. It's a modest second floor space with two bedrooms and two bathrooms and plenty of natural light. As with most things in Lucie's life, it's a bit of a mess with piles of vinyl and her camera supplies scattered about. She likes to sit outside on the small balcony in the evenings with her guitar. (To the delight or ire of those nearby.) The one-day nursery has only just begun to be furnished and is currently used as a makeshift darkroom for her photos. She has become the reluctant owner of several plants that she has valiantly kept alive for over a week. While she currently doesn't own a tv or have cable, she does own a laptop and has several streaming subscriptions. She hopes the space will grow with her, that it will be a place that her child looks back at with affection.

TASK #15 LET'S TAKE A TRIP & TASK #16 THE BIG EASY

This next task is a twofer, and hopefully has a little something for everyone! So, one at a time. LET'S TAKE A TRIP -- task #15 is a questionnaire (found under the jump!) about all things travel and your character. It's a quick, easy task to do, and hopefully something that you can knock out once you're caught up on replies, or hanging out on the couch with nothing better to do some afternoon. THE BIG EASY -- task #16 should be a moodboard representing your character's trip to New Orleans! Whether it be the aesthetic of their time, pictures of things that they did, whatever you would like -- this also does not need to be the typical 9-photo moodboard; if you would only like to do four, or six, or however many, that's fine! The one rule we do have: you may only use one photo of your face claim, if you use any at all. These can both be done during the entire month of February, and should be tagged with #merrocktask. Please do not put priority into these tasks over replies, as they do not count as activity.

MERROCK TASK #18 HOME SWEET HOME

Purchased not long after he got out of the army, Annabelle Lee is a 1978 Argosy Travel Trailer that Jason has painstakingly restored and worked on since purchasing it. It's traveled from Maine to the west coast and back, and has served him well. For a long while, Jason called it home in the Yellowstone area, living in a little 'commune' of other permanent campers who made their home nearby where they worked, which made for a great environment to live in.

But in Maine, he's a little more settled. While the inside has remained the same -- small bathroom, kitchen, couch/living area, and the dinette that turns into his bed, he has made significant improvements to the outdoor area, including a vegetable garden and a large deck / patio space off of the camper, perfect for entertaining. Although the driveway is long, the trip down it is worth the wait, to see the little homestead.

It's hard to really have a vibe or aesthetic when it comes to living in a camper, but Jace's is pretty simple, minimalistic. He has a few live plants, and organized storage where he keeps very few clothes, and mostly sticks with neutral, earth tones when it comes to decorating or choosing furniture (or, well, the blankets and pillows that go on the furniture, anyway).
