So, I'm way more critical of GRRM than, like, 90 percent of the fandom so I have a very low opinion of how he will handle R/L. I 100 percent think that when he conceived of the story back in the 90s he meant for R/L to be an unambiguous, consensual love story. He once called R 'lovestruck' and a fool in love in a few interviews which lmao. I am not saying this as a R/L shipper, I actually intensely despise both characters. But this is the same man that called the Dani/Drogo wedding night a 'seduction' and included a J*n/Ar*a romance in his original outline. Keep in mind, J*n knew Ar*a while she was literally IN UTERO but people somehow think GRRM will frame R/L as some parable on the dangers of an older man grooming a young girl lol. Do I think that now, in the post-me too era where everyone is super cognizant of issues like age gaps and grooming, etc. he realizes that he needs to 'fix' that relationship? Yes. A big reason I think it's taking him so long to finish the books and why he never will is because a lot of his ideas back in the 90s are now deeply unpalatable to modern audiences. That's kinda what happens when you procrastinate for three decades on finishing a series - social mores change dramatically and now you have to course correct. I just don't think he has the effort, care, or energy to critically reappraise his framing of R and R/L as a couple. I do think prophecy played a part in R's actions, but GRRM also meant for R/L to be in love. Now, do i hope GRRM does not frame it this? Yes. But I have almost zero faith in him lol.

Hi anon, I think you're saying that since Grrm has a warped view of consent because he called Dany/Drogo's first night as seduction (when it's clear it was rape), you think he might not view R/L as problematic and might depict them as a love story because he has also called Rhaegar a love-struck prince before, and paired Jon with Arya in the original outline... I don't agree. Grrm is wrong for what he said about Dany and Drogo, but in the text, though Dany views Drogo positively, their relationship is still depicted as abusive.

I'm just basing my thoughts on what we know from the main series here because I have no idea what Grrm initially intended for them in the 90s.

If Grrm intended this relationship to be consensual and positive, I don't think he would characterise Rhaegar as someone obsessed with siring three children, nor would he give Rhaegar a wife who he reproductively abused for children before he left for Lyanna.

Remember, Rhaegar and Aerys' main purpose in the story is to incite events that bring the end of House Targaryen in Westeros; their actions and their crimes are supposed to spark the rebellion that destroys their dynasty. That's why GRRM has characterised Rhaegar as prophecy mad: he was obsessed with siring three children; he impregnated his chronically ill wife in quick succession and humiliated her in front of the nobles from across the kingdoms at Harrenhal; he knew something had to be done to remove his father from power but chose to make everything worse by disappearing with a Lord Paramount's daughter. He left his family and the realm at the mercy of his mad father for months before reappearing and promptly dying in his first battle.

I don't see Grrm positively depicting such an irresponsible character or giving him any narrative triumph or hero-like treatment just because he contributed sperm that created one of the protagonists. I think GRRM intends for Rhaegar to be glorified through the eyes of some (very flawed) characters, and then later dismantle his romanticised image by exposing his true nature. Alongside Rhaegar's romanticization, Grrm has also written many instances that hint that Rhaegar was not as great a man as his admirers say.

In ASOS, Jorah Mormont tells Dany that "there was no higher honour than to receive your knighthood from the Prince of Dragonstone." To readers, it looks like Rhaegar was an incredibly noble and admirable person; however, that line is a callback to AGOT (Sansa II), where we read that Rhaegar had knighted Gregor Clegane, the man who brutally murdered his wife and children. This shows GRRM didn’t intend to depict Rhaegar as a good man, even when he published AGOT in 1996.

Since Rhaegar's faults are not yet as emphasised in the text compared to his romanticised image, readers may not notice or give importance to them. However, Grrm is not the type of writer to continue glorifying a character whose actions brought so much pain and suffering to others, so I'm certain he will negatively depict Rhaegar in the future.

My take on R/L is this. I think Grrm is only making R/L seem like a love story when what actually happened is much darker. I really can't see how he could have intended for R/L to be unambiguously consensual once Rhaegar is implied to desperately want 3 children and it's implied that he might have raped Elia for conceiving Aegon because he impregnated her when she was on bed rest recovering from the birth of their first child, Rhaenys. It was only after Elia was said to be too weak to give birth to another child that he took Lyanna. He hid Lyanna in a secret tower in the middle of nowhere, and she died giving birth with not even a maester to assist her. It sounds like Rhaegar cared more about her staying hidden and giving birth in secret than about her health.

Also, when Grrm glorifies Rhaegar through the eyes of characters like Jorah, Barristan, Cersei, Kevan Lannister, and Jon Connington, he uses that character's (and the reader's) prejudice regarding misogyny, racism, and ableism to depict Elia. Many of them call Elia unworthy and blame her for Rhaegar cheating on her and for the war. Elia is also sidelined without a voice. I'm pretty sure Grrm characterises Elia like this for now in order to build Rhaegar's image and Rhaelya's 'love'. If Elia was given more space in the backstory, readers would sympathise more with her than with the mirage of noble Rhaegar and his beautiful romance with Lyanna that birthed our hero Jon Snow.

And notice how none of Rhaegar's admirers care about Lyanna either! Some of them romanticise Rhaegar's love for her, but they don't care that he was said to have abducted her and she later died because of it. It's interesting that Rhaegar is romanticised through characters who don't sympathise with the women he harmed. It's only a bunch of randos who personally never knew Rhaegar that are shown to admire him (Dany, too, is only idealising an image of Rhaegar that Viserys and Barristan fed her). I'm certain that in the next book, GRRM will condemn Rhaegar and dismantle his legacy.

It's late, I'm very tired, but I am going to write you the ask anyway because I need you to know you put a new fic idea into my head and somehow it has grown and now what am I going to do? Do I have time for it? No. But it's been a lot of fun writing a snippet on the train today (as you do) and I hope it will stay for a while and maybe develop?

Basically, it's -

"[The cat] already has a name" the Doctor said suddenly. "She's called Siren." "You've named her?" Yaz exclaimed. "Has she told you?" Graham asked. "Mate, she doesn't actually speak 'cat'; she was having you on, earlier" Ryan stage whispered, before blinking and looking over to the Doctor. "You don't, do you?" "She's wearing a name tag" the Doctor explained and really, now that Yaz was examining the cat's collar, there was a tiny silver square reading 'Siren'. "Oh" she said, wondering why the Doctor hadn't used the name yet. Was it as not to get too attached? It had taken her awfully long to enter the discussion on the name, too.

I'm not quite sure how far this will go but there is actual plot already somewhere. It's a bit - difficult though. Because they're all treating the cat like you would treat a cat. Which is different from how you'd treat a human/timelord/whatever, especially when it comes to boundaries. And they don't know she's not a cat of course, because River is there ~undercover~. To them, basically, 13 has 'adopted a stray'.

Anyway, it is still very fun :) (also 90% of it has turned into a zoo tycoon ad but I am blaming that on companion-showdown) I love writing for the fam! It's difficult to juggle so many people in one scene but I love all of them so much 🥰 (but if I do write this whole piece it will probably end up being doctor/yaz/cat!river centric so that's only 3 characters and one is mainly non-verbal)

(This is about that cat named River Song in that post (yesterday?) and you saying it should be River undercover btw. Not sure whether that's been clear until now.)

Do you think Siren is a good name? Sirens sing and live in bodies of water, so I thought she might choose it as a not-too-obvious undercover name. Plus, River would dig the seductress connotations. (It might also have come to my mind because we've been talking about mermaids but anyway)

Alternatively, I was thinking Cleopatra bc we know River has cosplayed as her and it would be cute to call the cat 'Cleo'. It's a very cat-like name, I think.

Or 'Melody'? More angsty but also more obvious and riskier. And the idea is that the Doctor cannot know either she's there. But it also makes a good name for a cat I think.

(also, yeah, I totally haven't finished the lkh rewrite either, I think I told you earlier. But ohhh shiny new fic concept with thasmin and River and a cat 😍😍😍 anyway I am blaming you <3 (for the idea, not the procrastinating - the procrastinating is 100% on me))

First of all, absolutely love that my bullshit inspired you XD

Second, I love the scene you wrote omgggg! The fact the fam didn't notice the nametag and just went to the more outlandish explanation of "13 speaks cat" 😂

I love the name Siren so much!! Like first, it fits with the "River" (body of water) "Song", but it also reminds me of how when River calls for the Doctor, they are always there for her, almost as though drawn to River.

(Shiny new ideas always so appealing, yuppp, it is a thing I know all too well)

I am so excited to read more of this, and am looking forward to the plot that awaits us!

On the point of juggling so many characters, yes, I find that anything above three characters regularly interacting gets a bit crowded. Perhaps you'll still find a way to have Ryan and Graham there and doing little tasks during the fic, like for instance sending them to get food for Siren XD

Uhhh I don't really think I have one. Maybe in the future. (Probably not I'm more of an accidental theme person than lessons)

3) What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person?

My main character is just trying to live and figure shit out right now as their life has taken a full flip. I myself am using them as a vessel for myself and pushing my tough people are softies narrative.

4) How many chapters is your story going to have?

No clue. I usually never think like this. Me? Fully plan a story before I write it. Hilarious.

5) Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

Original content. I guess up here on tumblr. Maybe Ao3.

6) When and why did you start writing?

I started writing in 5th or 6th grade. So 11 years old? I started writing as a way to figure shit out about life, about myself.

Just because you're busy as hell/tired/burned out and haven't been putting words to the page. Or hate the words you've been putting to the page doesn't make you a bad writer. ahem. yes. anyways. i'm totally normal abt this, i totally didn't go feral for a few moments before i started typing this. OK BUT I'M SO READY TO TRY TO CONVINCE U TO READ THIS CUZ WHEN I SAY THIS WEBTOON + WEBNOVEL HAS CHANGED ME ENTIRELY. pls bear with me, giving me a chance to word vomit was not a good idea /hj. i'll put everything under the cut :] and i'll try to keep everything as spoilerless as possible so that u can safely enjoy the story when u get to it

i will apologise in advance for the person i've become, this might end up becoming a HUGE post (edit: i think it did, this is apparently at a lil more than 2k words rn cuz i typed this in google docs for fear of tumblr nuking my entire draft and me having to start all over again)

tldr for those who don't want to go through a 2k essay; orv is for you if you enjoy clean art, stories that will break down your initial expectations and surpass them, and things like found family, love (all kinds), and just an emotional rollercoaster in general. prepare snacks and tissues.

i'll start with the webtoon because that's where it started for me! honestly one of the things i look for most when i start a webtoon is the art. and there are times when even if i like the story, if the art ain't it for me, i'll drop the story 😭💀 but orv has such beautiful and crisp art, very edible art HAHAHA (both webtoon and novel by the way but i'll get to the novel in a bit) it makes me go so O.O sometimes. here's an example of the art, you might've seen it somewhere but i'm still adding it here for the pure beauty of these men named kim dokja and yoo joonghyuk AND ALSO han sooyoung and jung heewon (yes i'm gay, no it's not obvious /j). every character in this webtoon is so well drawn and just. chef's kiss okay, so if you like pretty art, you've got that right here folks.

moving on, the story seems, at first, like a very generic action fantasy webtoon where the world of a novel becomes reality and our mc aka kim dokja is the one who knows how to get to the end and he gets to meet his favourite novel’s protagonist yoo joonghyuk and decides to save the world. but as the story progresses on and on, it becomes so much more than that. the storytelling skills have to be applauded because webtoons can't use lots of words and have to convey things more concisely than their novel counterparts but they've done an amazing job of using the right dialogues in the right places with the right amount of impact. AND as of right now, the story is starting to head towards what i'd like to say is the actual beginning of this webtoon >:) that’s all i can say without spoiling some major things from the novel so,, yeah!

another beautiful part is the portrayal of each of the characters, especially kdj, and their different dynamics with kdj. now kim dokja is our mc and the main narrator of this entire thing so we’re quite limited in that sense because all we see and know is what kim dokja tells us through his narration. a lot of posts have accurately pinned him down as an unreliable narrator because he really only ever shows his companions (and us readers) one part of things and we’re all left to speculate about things. each companion holds a different opinion of kdj but all of them are united in the fact that they trust him to help them get through everything. while the webtoon hasn’t had a chance to explore that yet, i’m looking forward to how they will show it to us :] i’d say that this webtoon is worth a read also because kim dokja is the most mind boggling, intriguing and frustrating character you will ever meet. that’s a fact that’ll get clearer as you get closer to the recent chapters of the webtoon, but i love how he’s relatable in the sense that he both makes me screech in awe but also makes me want to wring his neck with how he is sometimes. i love him *holds him by the neck* (affectionately). oh and when i say every character is just a beautiful piece of art, i mean both their literal art and also the way they’ve been written, though it is more clear in the novel as of right now.

NOW i’m gonna move onto the webnovel because i honestly fell deeper into the rabbit hole purely because of the novel. and sing shong (the author of the webnovel) is an absolute genius for the way they have both intricately and simply pushed a single message throughout the length of the novel. i constantly joke about how reading the orv novel has changed my brain chemistry but i’m not joking most of the time because it really did. in many ways, i’m sure this is a novel i will remember for a very long time to come.

the same points i spoke about for the webtoon stand for the novel as well BUT of course the novel is just immaculately written and it deserves a chance of its own. it’s not that the writing of the novel is extraordinarily fancy or anything, it’s actually quite simple reading without too many complicated words but i think that has a beauty of its own. it’s able to convey what it needs to without having 10 pages of description and that’s awesome to me. there are issues with some things written in the novel but as it isn’t a focus or the point of orv (i got this point from this tumblr post, feel free to read through it if you want to because they have written some great points that can’t be said better by me!), it’s still a novel that entertains you to the fullest.

the characters are admittedly more fleshed out in the novel than the webtoon but that’s because the webtoon is still catching up while the novel is complete (it ended with epilogue chapters but recently the author came out with side stories). the relationships are just very detailed and it gives you a look into not only kim dokja’s head, but also yoo joonghyuk and other characters’ heads as well, though they’re not as common because the majority of the story is in kdj’s point of view. i’ve neglected mentioning other character names so far but kim dokja has a set of the most loyal and sweet and sometimes feral companions besides yoo joonghyuk like yoo sangah, who is someone kdj knew before the novel became their world, jung heewon and lee hyunsung, kdj’s trusty sword and shield, lee gilyoung and shin yoosung, his children (not biological but yes). there’s also lee jihye, an avid yoo joonghyuk follower who insults kdj at every turn but cares for him, and han sooyoung, who is portrayed as a bit of an antagonist or an anti-hero (as far as the webtoon goes anyway wink wink). and a lot of other characters you’ll grow to either love a lot or hate with a passion oR even have your opinion take a whole 180 about as you read on and on, that’s just the kinda novel this is.

don’t even get me started on the underlying themes of this novel. this is me being an english major (and psychology major unintentionally, double major woohoo) through and through but i love analysing characters and figuring out themes that come out through the writing. i won’t go too into the details so that i won’t spoil it for anyone who happens upon this post. but there’s the overarching theme of love; not just romantic love but also platonic love, familial love and the most important one of this novel, self-love. another theme i think is quite relevant and important to this story is more easily relatable to people who read often because it goes into how books can change you BUT you can also change books by reading them over and over again and understanding it better. also how stories can save you but you, as a reader, have the power to save stories by reading them. because in the end, a story continues because you read it. OH I CAN’T FORGET THIS, found family <3 if you’re a fan of found family, this is for you, it’s present throughout the story as a small but encompassing theme.

now this could be just me but i get extremely emotional when it comes to my favourite media, so i squeal with joy at happy parts, sob uncontrollably when sad scenes come up, punch my pillows when something makes me mad⏤ you get my point. and this novel gave me an entire rollercoaster of emotions and made me so URGH in good, bad and ugly ways. it kinda brings me back to my point about kdj being an unreliable narrator since the reason why it gets so hard and sad is because this man never tells anyone anything. he takes it upon himself to do everything, much to the annoyance and despair of his companions and us the readers. we know nothing other than what kdj is willing to tell us, not about his plans, not about him, not about his own feelings. and we’re left to guess and guess until everything is laid bare and then we’re still trying to. process everything. yeah i don’t know if this part is making any sense but i can’t really go into detail without majorly spoiling the story. so you’re gonna have to come back to my post once you’re done to be like “ohhh, right this is what they meant.” /j

To move to a lighter and probably my last point, the novel illustrations are gold i tell you. it’s done by a person named blackbox or bb-nim for short and i love just going through their art for fun. of course, if you’re reading it on a website like i did, then you’re not going to see the illustrations side by side so you should definitely check out blackbox’s twitter which i’ve linked here :] you’ll probably also find their art on pinterest. gorgeous art i tell you, BUT BUT BUT there are spoilers here and there so beware if you go digging through their media tab on their twt. I’ll put some of my favourite pieces that are as non-spoiler as possible under this

so. yeah. these are my reasons for why you should read both the orv webtoon and novel. In the end, all i can say is that if you give them a chance, you’ll probably get hooked just as i did. i knew to a certain extent about how the novel was but nothing prepared me enough but i’m not complaining because it is genuinely so good. i’ll add a list of content warnings here that i got from the wiki page because i don’t want anyone to be ambushed by anything they’re not comfortable with reading: graphic violence, death and murder, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, suicide, body horror, dissociation, transphobia (this might be a deal breaker and it would be for me too as a nonbinary person but it’s not a major focus and happens a couple times throughout the story), cephalopods, tentacles (yes these are real content warnings on the wiki HAHAHA), and finally hospitals.

Ok, so I finished the Fallout show! For the most part, it’s actually really good. If you ignore some of the timeline inconsistencies, it can be enjoyed in its own right as a piece of media. I really liked the Vault Mystery especially, and I think this is the one time where the justified villain trope wasn’t done in a way that made me super upset! Moldaver works because she hasn’t really done anything all that evil besides killing those vault dwellers in the first episode (which like, if you’ve played the games, you’ve done worse as a player character). The twist recontextualizes the series in a way that makes our main character seem like a bad guy, and Moldaver another protagonist! Also I was pretty worried about the Brotherhood, but nope. They’re pretty firmly evil in this show. I’m praying on their downfall.

Can I say I liked the show though?

I would if the final scene didn’t exist

They did so great but then they had to stumble and fall at the finish line. What do you MEAN they fucking destroyed New Vegas????

It’s like they saw people who liked New Vegas and, not understanding why, decided to add it to the show as a destroyed wreck! Who the fuck wanted to see that!

I don’t think a single person who played New Vegas was like “You know what would make Vegas better? If it fell and went back to dust!” So why in the WORLD was that added to the show??? Did they see the popularity of the Dust mod and think “well that’s what the people want to see!” NO! THAT’S NOT WHY PEOPLE PLAY DUST!

You know what, it’s too late to be coherent about it. Generally I liked the show but like. That final scene is just a slap in the face to everything the west coast games stood for. Maybe I’ll be better about it in the morning?

I don’t want to shit on anyone who liked the show. The show has a lot of good in it, and I would generally consider it to be good! I just have issues with that ending. Hopefully they see the feedback and backpedal, giving us the New Vegas we actually want to see (one that isn’t destroyed and devoid of life). Like shit I’d take the Legion ending over that. At least that has the potential to have an interesting plot

Obviously I still love fallout and by god I am watching season two bc there’s NO WAY THEY ACTUALLY THIS RIGHT?? I am in denial. However this does inspire me to really start up that TTW playthrough I’ve been procrastinating on!

Hi yall! Name is Bell F. Archer, but you can call me Archie and I'm a writer who has decided to make a blog for my work! I've never made one of these so here we go!

I post mostly on Instagram under @writersprocrastinators but I hope to post longer works here, updates on my WIPs, any random prompt I see, and hopefully receive tons of asks and prompt requests. I'm 26 living in the US, I enjoy many different TV shows, but I loved shows like Chuck, Bones, Castle, most of the MCU works, iZombie, Family Guy, the 100, Wynona Earp, Motherland: Fort Salem, Lucifer, ATLA, Walking dead universe, honestly the list is never ending it would be easier if yall asked if I've seen it and I'll say yes or no lol. I'm relatively new to setting up a blog on Tumblr for this purpose so if there's any tips, please send them my way!

I like fictional works ranging from crime dramas, romance, fantasy, and others like dystopian works. Honestly, I don't read nearly as much as I could, but I write a lot and enjoy fan fictions! I find fan writing to be fun to read because the writing styles tend to feel very different between all writers, for the same base content. Reading each authors twists on a particular moment is pretty inspiring! It's hard to explain, but I I love to read it, but I don't particularly write it and would love to chat about it! This blogs purpose is for any and all of my writings/poems/stories and whatever else I write. I'll hopefully start doing some OC introductions, world building, or any art that can connect to my works. For example, one of my WIPs has a map that I've been working on, and I've also been trying to teach myself how to draw in order to draw the OCs out (it's very hard and I'm having a hard time lol).

I'm open to asks, prompts, questions, and messages, but do keep it respectful, I don't find wasting my time to be something I enjoy. If you have any advice or recommendations please also let me know! If you'd like something written for you, in a fictional sense not an essay or something lol, I will gladly look into it!

All writing done here is entirely my own, written by me and for me. Please do not copy my work anywhere else © copyright notice is below and on this page. I hate that I even have to say this, but people steal content so often and I just dont want the headache.

♤How my writings will work♤

Not all of my work is connected, but a lot of them are part of the same "series", specifically the poems are. They’ll be tagged as the same series. The WIPs are not connected, but they both have tons of similar callbacks and subtle author references.

Most of the poems are within a part of a series, and the characters for the "conversations" are generally the same people unless I say otherwise.

♤About my WIPS♤

Whatever Means Necessary (working title)

This is a crime drama fiction, that is by far my oldest work. It's got a dash of romance but for this one it's less and more subtle, due to its nature. Part 2 has a bit more of it, but that WIP is very far from happening. It's been in progress since 2011 about, and I have yet to finish it, hence the procrastinators part. This one is about 3-5 chapters from being done! Its all the editing that's gonna get me.

I would rate this as a new adult fiction.

Some tropes in WMN are spies, futuristic weapons, angst, life changing family news, discovering family, family nemesis, casual drug and alcohol use, slow burn (like glacial), found family, betrayal, symbolism, and besties.

Warnings: graphic depictions of violence, attempted SA, death, cursing, sexual scenarios

Fallen (working title)

This is a fantasy/dystopian & adventure fiction that is newer and has many more moving parts, lore, descriptions and OCs. This one is not even close to being fully written out, but is plotted out fairly well. I learned my mistake with no outline this time around.

I would rate this again, as a new adult fiction. But too mature for young adult, not quite mature enough to be adult.

Some tropes in Fallen are enhanced human abilities, zombie-esque creatures, mythical creatures and beings, monsters, reinvented military, dystopian governments, utopian governments, romance, not so slow slow burn, extreme angst, character death, defying destiny, defying fate, mental health exploration, race discussions and combating aggressions, found family, gender and sexuality exploration, positions of power, morally grey characters, betrayal, and symbolism.

Warnings: graphic depictions of violence, mentions and attempts of SA, major and side character death, cursing, sexual scenarios, murder, illness, heavy casual drug and alcohol use. This work is considerably grittier.

[Routine] Triggers

Day 09 - Nov 14, 12.023

Today will not be a complete or any time of actual post. I'm just had to say that: procrastination is a bitch, and I'm tired of doing nothing. Sorry. This was what I had in mind to post today, but my girlfriend didn't let me. If her is reading to this: eu te amo.

Today was not the greatest day since the start of this journal, I would say. Because I procrastinated pretty much all of it, but well, at least now I learned or realized something new about myself and routines in general I would say, so now I actually have a theme for today's post: routine triggers.

Today's bad trigger

As I said, today I procrastinated most of it, and of course I blame myself for again not stopping the domino effect. But now at the end of the day, writing this post, I just questioned myself: "Why? What was the first piece that felt over to start this effect?". And I'm kinda ashamed because it was so naive and unimportant the answer to it:

On the start of the day, I waked up, dressed myself, and got my phone. And just of curiosity and with the idea of getting something out of my day, I thought: "What are the new videos in my feed since yesterday? Maybe I could watch them now in the morning, so I don't have anything new for the rest of the day."

And in a pass of magic, now I'm here after just passed my day watching videos and actively searching for new ones. Do you know the "just one more" or "it is X:45 a.m., I'll just do/watch this which has 15 minutes, and then I start in Y:00!"? This was the entire day. I know that this type of behavior is something somewhat common for everyone, but it is so silly when you see in retrospect.

My entire day was defined by a small decision at the start of the day. Yes, I could stop at any time, but when you start a bad routine, it's hard to get out of it, even more in a day. And it is better when you can cut it by the root.

Why did I have this decision of wanting to watch videos? To be honest, this is an entire different theme for a post, but in summary: dopamine and "hobby" of watching videos since a kid.

The good trigger

So if there are bad triggers which start you in a bad habit/routine, what are your good ones? And being honest, I already know mys, I already somewhat talked about with my therapist about: waking up, organizing my bed, and then taking a shower. That's it. If I start the day with them, independent of what hour of the day, the majority of the time, I have a productive day. Why? I don't fucking know, muscular memory, association, whatever is the research about triggers say (which I forgot about).

Why I didn't continue doing this morning routine? I can't be sure, but very often is intrusive thoughts and justifications like "I waked up late, taking a shower now would take a lot of time". Do I know to exactly combat them? No, but knowing about them already helps practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (which is the type of therapy that I'm practicing with my therapist, but not exclusively, I still am trying to find the roots of traumas and problems, not just fixing them with CBT)

I have to admit that in the past days, I have been very lazy about fighting said intrusive thoughts. Thankfully not completely, because I'm still able to do something during the day, like organizing my note taking app, or "decorating" it - which to be honest are things that I need to do, but shouldn't be a priority or doing now y'know?.

Well, let's see how the next days goes, and hopefully this helped someone to also think about their "routine triggers".

Song: Infame - by Supercombo & Kamaitachi - This music is such a style that I love and always make me want to sing along, and almost scream along too. Kamaitachi (the main singer in this song) is an artist which I love and feel like he has such a unique voice and style in his musics, and in this music, with Supercombo's more metal/hard style, is such a perfect combo that I couldn't stop listening to when I discovered it. Recommend both authors' songs also, but this music is so unique that I needed to put specific list it here today.

If you don’t mind, could you elaborate on what you said earlier about not liking blossomthorn? I think it would be interesting to read someone actually go into that, because a lot of people mention it but just kinda go “yeah it’s bad” and not, as deep into it

OK, I'm like 6 layers deep on procrastinating right now so let's do this.

0. disclaimer, background reading, and introduction

I am not telling anyone not to ship this ship. This post is an explanation of why the ship personally squicks me. I do not believe that these characters was intended to be interpreted as having such a toxic dynamic, and since my argument is based almost entirely on blink-and-you'll-miss-it details, I do not blame anyone at all for not reading it that way, or for not wanting to read it that way. It’s all extremely YMMV and based on personal interpretation. Also, even if the previous disclaimer weren’t true.. like, I’m not your dad? And I don’t want to be? Sorry, you seem very sweet, but I’m not ready to be a parent.

In short, I do not want to see anyone referring to this post as an argument for people not to ship Blossom/Thorn. I especially do not want to see this post or the arguments within used as a justification for harassment against Blossom/Thorn shippers. I’m not trying to be mean, I just want to be extremely clear about this. I absolutely will not be party to harassment, even tangentially, so please respect my wishes here.

Moving along. While you can just go ahead and read this post with no other meta knowledge if you like, it’s worth saying that I’m resting my argument here on a couple of other arguments that have already been made. First, for those of you who didn’t see it, this is following up on and naturally slots in with my personal take that Thornclaw is canonically a huge bastard. Second, literally like 99% of my personal interpretation of Blossomfall comes from akitsunelune’s take on the character, a general rundown of which can be found in this meta. If you don’t read either of those two posts, there’s a chance parts of this one might fly over your head. If you disagree with the arguments of those two posts, you’re likely to also disagree with the fundamental assumptions of this post. Either of those things is fine, because, again, you can do whatever the hell you want, but I just want you to be aware of what’s going on here.

Now that we can put all of that aside, let's talk about what bothers me here.

There are three main things that bother me: the age gap, the pseudo mentor/apprentice relationship, and what i mentally refer to as the "daddy issues factor." As I mentioned in the other post, each of these issues considered individually are things I could brush off, but taken all together it makes the relationship look Pretty Rough. Let's go through each of these issues in order.

1. the age gap

Age gaps are already kind of an iffy thing to be worried about in general, because while yes, I do personally think it's kind of creepy when 50-something adults consistently date people in their twenties, ultimately those people are adults, they can make their own choices, and I find it much creepier that some people want so much control over interpersonal relationships where they aren’t a participant.

It's even iffier in Warriors due to the fact that cats age very differently than humans in a way that's kind of hard to translate onto human morality. Even speaking as someone who anthropomorphizes the cats a lot, there's a general understanding in the Warriors world that the cats hit adolescence/young adulthood (interpretations vary both in fanon and throughout the books) at 6 moons old. This means that for the cats, their childhood is at most 1/12 of their lifespan, if they die fairly young by Warriors standards. For humans, our childhood is closer to 1/8 or 1/6 of our lifespan. You see the problem here. Combine that with small population sizes and the fact that everyone in your Clan has either known you since you were born or you've known them since they were born and... yeah, it’s essentially unavoidable so I just don't think it's something anyone needs to worry about.

If the older character is expressing significant interest in the younger when the younger is still an apprentice (i.e. a child), then that's a completely separate issue. It’s not an age gap relationship, it’s pedophilia, which.. is bad. (Shocker I know.) But so long as they don't start meaningfully interacting on the page till the younger is an adult... whatever, you know? Like, canon Dust/Fern bothers me. Canon Tiger/Dove bothers me. But like, idfk, Pinestar and Leopardfoot? They’re fine. It’s fine. We don’t need to look for things to be mad about, there’s already plenty to be mad about in these books.

Where do Blossom/Thorn fall on this spectrum? Well, in general, they rarely interact directly on the page, and their relationship is mostly implied rather than portrayed. Even those implied interactions don’t begin until Blossomfall has her warrior name. Their age gap only stands out to me because of its sheer size - something like 5.5 years, IIRC. Of course, thanks to the timeskip between OOTS and AVOS, she's already like 4 when they get together, making this less "man in his 50s dates a 20 year old" and more "middle aged woman gets with 90 year old man, for some reason." It's weird, but again, as an individual factor, it doesn't bother me and I don't see it as predatory.

2. the pseudo mentor/apprentice relationship

To give a bit of context: my thing about mentor/apprentice relationships, on a personal note, is that they don't inherently bother me? I think they can sometimes introduce potential for abuse, but mentor/apprentice relationship dynamics as presented in the series canon run the gamut from 'child helping and learning from their elderly neighbor' to 'formalized student/teacher relationship a la the actual Western school system' to 'one adult helping another learn skills and integrate into the community' to 'pretty much just an adoptive parent/child relationship' to 'your mom paying your friend's older brother to tutor you in math for a few summers.' There's a lot of variation and you can see how this leaves room for a romantic relationship between a former mentor and apprentice to be perfectly healthy, depending heavily on circumstances. Of course, I blame no one for disliking by mentor/apprentice relationships as a rule, because I can definitely see why one might feel that way.

All that being said, just to make it clear: if a mentor is pursuing a relationship with an apprentice while they are still in the context of that mentor/apprentice relationship, that's a bad thing, because of the sheer level of power mentors are given over their apprentices in this universe. Additionally, when there is both a mentor/apprentice dynamic at play and a significant age gap between the two characters, it is difficult not to interpret the dynamic as one of grooming, even when there is no romantic interest expressed until later. It's just that I think both have to be present to make the mentor/apprentice relationship thing an issue, but then when both are present, it is definitely its own problematic dimension separate from the age gap.

So how is this all relevant to Blossom/Thorn? Well, this is almost entirely a matter of personal interpretation, but Thornclaw was Briarlight's mentor. Given all canon evidence about how ThunderClan trains its apprentices (with heavy collaboration between mentors, especially mentors of littermates), I really don't think it's unreasonable to say that this means Thornclaw was probably at least somewhat involved in Blossomfall's training from a young age.

Now I know I just argued above that they don’t actually interact until Blossom is older, and in terms of what we see in the text, that is true. So there's no way of knowing what their mentor-and-apprentice dynamic was like, or whether they even actually did interact at all. It's just that for me personally, in conjunction with the age gap and my interpretation of the worldbuilding, it seems like this minor detail (Thorn being Briar's mentor) potentially takes the Blossom/Thorn dynamic from "40 year old woman gets with 90 year old man" to "40 year old woman gets with 90 year old man she's known as an authority figure in her life since she was 12," which is much much much worse.

3. “the daddy issues factor”

sooo okay. All of this so far has been more or less YMMV, but I want to say that this part is EXTREMELY so. if you didn’t do any of the background reading recommended at the top, this is probably where I‘m gonna lose you.

Basically... Blossomfall is like, clearly a vulnerable person. Her parents are both quite neglectful, and Millie in particular is also just... a whole thing. Not that Graystripe should be let off the hook either, since he pretty much never interacts with his kids. I’m not going to like, get into it, because this is tangential to the actual point of this post. But in short, for the purposes of this argument, Blossomfall has experienced neglect/abuse at the hands of both parents and, in all likelihood, the Dark Forest as well. That is certainly my interpretation of her character.

And I am absolutely not saying that people who have been abused are foreverafter incapable of entering into healthy relationships, but I am saying that people who have been abused particularly at a young age, particularly by authority figures like parents and teachers, often learn to see shitty toxic dynamics as normal, and fall into this kind of cycle of bouncing between abusive partner after abusive partner because of what they have been taught love looks like. I have done this, I have seen my friends do this, it fucking sucks. Sometimes people learn and get out of it, and sometimes they never do.

And like. Blossomfall, to me. just. really looks like someone who never did.

When you combine her existing vulnerability with all the power Thornclaw holds over her by virtue of age and the mentor/apprentice thing and even just sheer institutional power, it makes a lot of details in their relationship seem, like... really bad.

Like how Blossomfall’s tendency to adopt quietly Thornclaw’s opinions about things:

Blossomfall rolled her eyes. “Let me guess,” she grumbled. “A new idea about training.”

Ivypaw could hear Thornclaw’s irritated sigh echoing in her mew. Blossomfall was obviously quoting her denmate.

- from Fading Echoes. (Also worth noting this is very shortly after Blossomfall gets her warrior name. So while you can interpret them as not having been close until Blossomfall is much older, it’s worth noting that the books portray them as at least passing friends when she’s in the rough equivalent to her early 20s.)

After a moment, Thornclaw bowed his head solemnly. “If it’s Ashfur, he’ll never feel satisfied.

Blossomfall and Cinderheart murmured in agreement.

-from Darkness Within. (I have a lot more thoughts on the many implications of this moment, most of which I don’t think the authors thought through, but I’ll keep focused on the point at hand XD)

and on a general note, multiple people have pointed out that Blossomfall gets significantly more xenophobic in AVOS and onward from there, compared to how she was written in OOTS. And we already know Thornclaw is like, the king of xenophobia.

In an otherwise healthy relationship? Yeah, none of this would be anything. I mean it sucks that she’s being influenced by Thornclaw’s shitty opinions, but being racist doesn’t automatically make him an abusive husband. People change over time and it’s normal to be influenced by your spouse’s opinions.

But in the context of Blossom/Thorn as we understand it, as a relationship with a huge power imbalance and a pattern, on Blossom’s side, of having been abused by authority figures? Well, suddenly this kind of looks like someone who has learned to shape their opinions to mirror other peoples’ as a fawn response to mistreatment, repeating the pattern. And given that her romantic partner canonically does not respond well to criticism and argument, it also seems perfectly likely that Thornclaw is explicitly or implicitly encouraging her in this behavior. Red flag!

Another one: Thornclaw seemingly just straight up ignores Blossomfall a lot of the time. As I’ve mentioned several times, they rarely interact even when they do get together, and he certainly doesn’t give enough of a shit about her to stay in ThunderClan during the imposter crisis. In fact, he decides to leave on an impromptu “wander” without her despite the extreme danger of the situation, basically just because he’s having a midlife crisis.

In an otherwise healthy relationship? This is weird and shitty, yeah, but something we can assume the characters might have worked through offscreen. In the context of this relationship as we’ve discussed it? Seems like someone taking advantage of the fact that he knows his wife has a fawn response to mistreatment in order to neglect her and get away with it. Red fucking flag!

And another: Blossomfall, for at least some period of time after the battle, is only shown hanging out with other former Dark Forest trainees. This is most likely because she believes anyone else would reject her, because the rest of the Clan is explicitly extremely hostile toward her and the former trainees in general. And... what do you know, Thornclaw is another former trainee, conveniently one of like literally 6 people in the entire world Blossomfall still believes she can trust. I’m sure he’s not taking advantage of that at all. (/s, if it wasn’t obvious.)

4. conclusions and summary

Basically, if you look at any given individual tidbit that points toward Blossom/Thorn on the page, I don’t think you’re going to see abuse. But within a total context, I do personally believe that their relationship points in that direction. This is due to both the difference of power between them, as well as both of their pasts and personalities as characters. Blossomfall is a person who has been repeatedly traumatized by authority figures and seems to display a classic ‘fawn’ response in her relationship with Thornclaw, which is a bad sign. Thornclaw also seems to take direct advantage of this at least once.

The whole thing gets worse when you consider that there is a huge age gap between them and there’s a non-zero chance that they have had this dynamic since Blossomfall was as young as 6 moons old which, while interpretations vary on what that’s “equivalent” to in human age, is definitely adolescent while Thornclaw was a fully grown adult at the time. And once you begin to interpret their relationship through the lens of abuse, a lot of otherwise innocuous-seeming minor details start to add up and paint their relationship as one in which Thornclaw constantly takes advantage of Blossomfall’s vulnerabilities and steamrollers her opinions so that he can get away with doing whatever he wants regardless of her thoughts and feelings. It’s a toxic, if not outright abusive dynamic.

Given all of this, it’s a relationship that I personally strongly dislike. But in total, I think you can see why I say this whole thing rests on headcanon and YMMV, because it’s very easy to just not pick up on these little bitty pieces of trivia and throwaway moments, or to simply interpret them as existing within an otherwise healthy dynamic and thus as being unconcerning. I recognize that at this point I’m not so much pulling from canon as I’m pulling from my own heavily biased interpretation of what might be happening off-screen in actual canon, and that’s simply not something that I could possibly or would even want to force onto other people. I just wanted to share why I have the interpretation of this relationship that I do.

My True Identity: foreshadowing and cruel irony

I promised this analysis long ago. I promised I would have finally started the rewatch.

And here I am. After all this time, it's finally rewatch time.

Before proceeding with this, let me clarify a couple points:

These analyses won't have a clear schedule. As you know, some episodes take a lot of time, while others are much simpler and/or shorter. I will just post every time I finish an analysis.

Not all episodes might be worth an analysis. Some might be fused into one post, others might be completely ignored. That doesn’t mean they’re useless, but only that I personally have nothing to say about them.

For now, I don't plan to talk about episodes I talked about, like DWIT and POF. But who knows, maybe there will be something else to add, when I'll come back to them? Still, for now don't expect anything new for these two episodes.

These are all my personal thoughts, so I could be completely wrong about everything. If you disagree/agree/want to add something, please feel free to do it.

As always, I might talk about all sorts of themes, so read at your own risk.

And now, let's begin.

An unclear plan

When he looked back at the first episode of what would've become Sanders Sides, Thomas himself admitted he had no clear plan about what he wanted to do. Would he film just a bunch of vlogs with these characters taken from his Vines? Would he do silly, funny sketches and talk about some random theme every time? He had no idea.

And this episode shows it: it really looks more like a simple, light-hearted vlog with funny characters, rather than what it would've become.

And this is probably what makes it a very intriguing start. Looking at it in retrospect, you can find a lot of stuff. You can see a lot of cruel irony, considering what these characters are saying and who is saying what. You can see a lot of points that will actually be discussed throughout the series. And you can even notice a lot of foreshadowing.

The main point of Sanders Sides

[Thomas]: Do I really know myself as well as I should? (...) I need to have a sit-down with myself, figure myself out, and maybe come to a better understanding that we all could learn from! Let’s do this!

This first episode might not take the future developments of the series into consideration, but the main point was still here.

Thomas doesn't know himself well enough. There's a lot he has to figure out. He needs to talk with himself and learn more.

Considering who are the last two sides Thomas learned about, this is just adorable. Look at this young Thomas, so cute and naive, thinking: "Oh yes, I will learn more about myself and it will all be fun and games! :DDD". So adorable, he has no idea what the future has in store for him.

This also connects to another point I mentioned in my analysis about the Dark Sides: before starting the series, Thomas didn't know his sides well enough. And we can see it in the way they interact between them and with Thomas.

For example, this part:

[Morality]: And no matter what, no one knows you better than yourself. Am I right, Tony? [Thomas]: Not my name. [Morality]: Then what is it?

I know it was a joke, but it was also a confirmation. Not even his own heart knows him well. Thomas never truly spoke with his sides - and they never truly spoke between them. They've always played a role - the teacher, the prince, the dad. Now they can start knowing each other.

Possible foreshadowing about Roman's arc

[Thomas]: Like, okay, relationships (...) where do I stand in those regards? [Princey]: I have a pretty ideal vision of love... There's someone out there for me... One true love... [Logic]: But you tend to overthink things, rule out possibilities with logic, dream up obstacles with each new connection you make... [Thomas]: And that when the anxiety kicks in. Maybe that’s why I haven’t found a person for me yet.

Oh boy, I can feel the last episodes and Asides looming over me.

Let's analyze each part of this conversation:

1) Thomas (and Roman) has a pretty ideal vision of love. One true love waiting for him. And now, guess what? Thomas is in love with Nico. And we all remember how Roman welcomed the idea of this new love in their lives.

[Roman]: I so... SO badly want this. I- I'm desperate for it...

And also how amazed he was, when they came back home:

[Roman]: A POET! To top it all off, he's a poet!

Considering the above premises, would it be so difficult for Roman to start idealizing this relationship with Nico? To consider Nico the “one true love” he talked about? To put him on a pedestal and, at the same time, search inside him all the characteristics the one true love should have?

This could lead to a very interesting possibility: Thomas putting Nico under the pressure of being his perfect man, to have all those characteristics his dreamy, romantic side wants to see. All while considering him incredibly perfect to the point of becoming inhuman.

All of this could end up only one way: scaring Nico. Maybe to the point of driving him away from Thomas.

2) Thomas overthinks, “rule out possibilities with logic” and dreams up obstacles. Could this also be a possible foreshadowing?

At the end of FWSA, when Thomas asked if they were ready for this relationship, Virgil stopped smiling, all while the camera slowly zoomed on him. The message was clear: Virgil isn’t ready for a change yet.

So we have Roman, who sees Nico as the perfect, ideal man of his dreams. And we have Virgil, afraid of changes, overthinker by nature and prone to self-deprecation.

The ingredients are all here: it is very possible that Thomas/Roman will put Nico on a pedestal and, the moment Nico is scared by Roman's adoration, Virgil starts to freak out and to talk bad about himself, because why someone so perfect and dreamy like Nico would ever love someone like Thomas?

This could potentially lead to a heated confrontation between Virgil and Roman that could be the metaphorical last nail on the coffin: Roman is already hurt because Patton sided with Janus. Nico drifting away from Thomas and Virgil's self-deprecation might convince him that yes, Thomas is truly bad and unworthy of love like Virgil says. He himself is bad and unworthy because he's not the perfect Creativity he should be.

And this can be a great starting point for his character arc.

OH THE IRONY part 1: no one learned anything (yet)

Jokes aside, I love how Patton is the one who says that everybody has flaws, but he excludes Thomas. It's Thomas himself who says he has flaws as well.

Doesn't that remind you of anything? Like this moment in SvS?

[Patton]: Well... Nobody's perfect... Except for Thomas! He loves his friends!

Patton saw Thomas as perfect and pure from the start. I love this, because it's very subtle and you don't notice it - until the events of SvS and POF.

But while Patton is finally learning (after almost 30 episodes) that Thomas isn't perfect, Roman is still very far from his goal of loving himself.

That's probably why he needs a romance this much: by focusing on someone else, he can easily ignore how much he doesn't like himself and his flaws.

And hey, I can even guess the name of these "flaws" he doesn't like so much.

These words are not foreshadowing at all

[Logic]: Um... Are we bringing up flaws now? Because if so, get ready to take a lot of notes. [Thomas]: Oh, uh... [Logic]: -continuing- Okay, you ready? Here we go. You procrastinate A LOT. [Morality]: You can be a bit selfish with your food and your other belongings... [Princey]: You’re definitely not the most adventurous person... [Thomas]: Okay, maybe this was a bad idea if I'm supposed to be learning to love myself. [Logic]: Ah, but remember, everyone has flaws.

Let's not forget that Thomas still had no clear plan, while filming this episode. This was supposed to be just a vlog.

But look at how the universe made these characters say these things. Look at dear sweet Patton, bringing up Thomas’ selfishness. How cute, he really has no idea what episodes are waiting for him.

And Roman brings up Thomas’ fear of changes. Awww, how cute, he has NO IDEA of the guy that will become his worst nightmare and his bestie at the same time <3

OH THE IRONY part 2: just look who's talking

LOOK WHO’S TALKING.

Just look at the absolute irony of Mr. Selflessness talking about the importance of being nice to ourselves. Mr. Thomas-Should-Be-A-Martyr saying that cutting us some slack is good.

All while Mr. I-Thought-I-Was-Your-Hero tells us that we don’t want to be our own villain, right? Right?

Three fundamental questions

[Princey]: Well, what do you wish to look for in a relationship? What are you hoping to gain from having another person in your life? [Thomas]: Um... I don’t know. Someone who’s a nice compliment to me... someone who wants a long stable relationship... someone who indulges in the same sense of humor, and um... someone who can binge-watch cartoons with me.

This might be considered another foreshadowing of Thomas and Nico's relationship - maybe even the solution of the drama that will take place, after Roman and Virgil's fight we suggested before. The best solution: not putting Nico on a pedestal and seeing him as the perfect man, but appreciating him for who he is, for the normal guy he is - a guy Thomas loves and nothing else.

[Logic]: With everything you've learned, what do you wish to do with your education? [Thomas]: Ooh... I am not sure... I’d love to figure out ways to help the environment. Science was always my strong point and I love chemistry.

As I said multiple times, I think Thomas' decision to leave chemical engineering and become an actor will play a huge role in Logan's arc. And this question slighty hints at this.

At this point in time, Thomas still wants to use his education in a fruitful way. He still wants to use science, it's still his main goal. Doing silly videos is just an addition. "A good start", as he said:

[Thomas]: I think just being able to put out silly light-hearted content into the world is kind of a good start. It makes me really happy to do that. [Logic]: Well there you go. A good foundation.

And that's how Logan considers it as well: just a foundation. Not something that will take a huge part of Thomas' life. These videos are just a start.

This explains his reactions in the following episodes, especially how much he insisted on Thomas having a real job: after all, these videos are not something serious. Why focusing so much on them?

This could potentially be the starting point of Logan's increasing frustration and the reason of his final snap in season 3, that would also start his character arc.

But Patton’s question is what really surprises me:

[Morality]: What positive impacts do you inevitably hope to bring to this world?

Not only this screams POF, but it shows something for the first time: that Patton is silly, but he’s also clever. He’s not a complete idiot. He likes to be silly, he IS silly, but this question proves he's a lot more mature than he seems.

And if you think this is just a one-time thing, don't worry, we'll see it again in the future.

Is this a foreshadowing of my next analysis? Well, the episode was all foreshadowing, why can't I foreshadow something as well? ;)

Haikyuu fanfic recs for ones I liked hehe

Anyway, as the title suggests, I am recommending some fanfics for popular(ish) ships that I personally really enjoyed! I’m only doing one or two fics per ship (which in hindsight is KILLING me so I’m just putting the first fics I find and am like I really liked that one LOL) because I wanted to do a shorter fic rec list (tho watch this become super long LOL). I also may or may not be procrastinating finishing a couple other long posts, so there’s that hehe. For the (kinda but not really) public consensus for best fics per ship (by kudo count) check out some of my other posts. Also I’m putting some ships I don’t actually read much of (OOPS LOL) so if you think that there’s a fic that fits my type (if I even have a consistent type) better, pls tell me LOL. Otherwise, pls continue heh :)

The Loyalty of a Traitor by DeathBelle (E) 76.9k // ok so does me liking this fic make me basic cause I feel basic LOL. I really love mafia fics, and the way the story line developed was SO good, like IN LOVE with this story. This is a fic where you should read WARNINGS, TAGS, and SUMMARY before diving in, but if the length scares you, don’t be. It’s so easy to fall in and get lost in the writing!

the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle by kittebasu (chanyeol) (T) 66.3k // again, basic? Probably LOL but it’s good so I have no shame ;) Again, pls don’t let the word count scare you (cause it scared me LOL), you get really into it after like 2 paragraphs, so just make sure you have enough time to finish hehe.

KuroKen:

Thicker Than Blood by kylar (M) 91.4k // are you surprised that there is another mafia one? You really shouldn’t be LOL. Anyway, I’ll just be here pushing my mafia fanfic agenda while you read this monster of a fic hehe :) Definitely read WARNINGS, TAGS, and SUMMARY because there is some very sensitive topics involved! I also adore the oibokuroo friendship headcannon, so more reasons to read, right?

Liked, Commented and Subscribed by Royal Society of Pandas (Abarcelos) (T) 45.7k // this fic is SO funny omg. I read it and I had to stop so many times just to laugh because I could not stop sometimes LOL. However, there IS angst towards the end, it gets resolved, but it’s still there... But honestly, it just adds such depth and flavor to the fic, so pls read it!

BokuAka:

bang! now we're even by Authoress (M) 11.9k // so I’ll be honest, I don’t read a lot of BokuAka (...oops?) and so I wouldn’t consider myself as the best person to be recommending fics for this ship (in general too LOL).... ANyway, I love myself some good spy AUs (was gonna put that IwaOi spy AU but the LIMIT), and Akaashi in a dress? Like the tags might state, what more do you need? The characters are done beautifully, and the story development is SO good, so I give you all my humble BokuAka rec.

Crisis Converted by valiantarmor (M) 60k // man do I really love fighting in my fics LOL. This was super good and the plot itself kept me really engaged (what a twist omg). It does talk a bit about mental health issues, but it’s done so well, and they really did this AU justice!

DaiSuga:

How to Manage by SuggestiveScribe (E) 39.3k // ok so yea yea we established, I’m basic, BUT can you blame me? This might’ve been one of the first DaiSuga’s I’ve read and I have no regrets. Literally, this fic series is one of my favorites, so OF COURSE I had to add it somewhere :D Honestly, I don’t even think you need to read the first one to understand what’s going on, but I would just cause it has some funny DaiSuga moments too ;) This is explicit for PWP, so proceed with caution~~

Add New Contact by booksong (G) 8.5k // this one! It’s so cute and poor Daichi LOL. He really out here doing the most,,, Anyway, we love tech Suga, and a nice dash of snarky tsukki (LOL is he salt, yes yes he is). It’s very fluff and pine, so if you want to read Daichi having gay panic like 24/7, go right ahead LOL.

SakuAtsu:

Burden of Blame by DeathBelle (E) 91.2k // ummmm, haha what, another mafia AU? Me, predictable? Noooo, never..... Anyway, this one was so freakin’ good like, love it so much! It’s one of my favorite mafia AU fics, and I love the story line progression. Poor Atsumu being dragged into this mess, but it’s okay because THEY are IN LOVE. Honestly, this fic is Atsumu best boy like he is the best boy. BEST BOY.

Notte Stellata by awkwardedgeworth (T) 20.9k // I ignored all of the other fics I LOVE in this ship (like the pain I’m in rn), but I love this fic with my whole heart. Like I have reread this fic multiple multiple times because I love it so much (tho I might’ve skipped the angst a couple of times cause I didn’t want the pain okay?). I keep coming back, and the second fic in this series is SO funny and cute and I love it here. Please read it, it’s so FREAKING good, angst and ALL.

KyouHaba:

Team Mom by All_My_Characters_Are_Dead (T) 2.7k // so as I was going through this tag (because that’s what I do LOL), I remembered this fic and I love it. Like yes Yahaba is the fear factor and yes Kyoutani is the DAD. I really like the team dynamics in this one, and the first years make me laugh pls.

Camellias by kiyala (T) 1.9k // IK you’re all like, you’re missing such great fics, like no I’m not I just made myself hate myself by limiting fics to two per,,, I love this fic and when I starting looking for this ship, it was the first one I thought of hehe. I really love magic and their interactions are so cute and the PLANTS ARE DOING THE MOST. Pls read both in the series, cause domestic KyouHaba is best KyouHaba ngl LOL. I love the plants, and if you read the second one, someone tell the trees to stop bullying Yahaba.

MatsuHana:

This gets annoying fast, Makki by Ink_stained_quills (G) 2.3k // IM IN LOVE WITH THIS FIC PLS I COULD NOT STOP CRYING TEARS OF LAUGHTER. This AU needs more fics PLEASE. It was SO freakin’ funny and the other teams KILLED ME. Like how they all approached the problem differently and how some of them (KUROO) asked for help LOL. Please this is so freaking funny go read it.

boiled frogs by reginagalaxia (E) 91.5k // I told myself I was gonna put my most angsty fics on another post (which I will for my other favorite MatsuHana angst fic which I love), but this fic. Omg I saw it and I was like I have to. Literally I have to. I hate angst, but read it. It, the, plot, omg, I jjfnsfknalkjdnf ljksan. Like I’m not sure you understand. This fic. asjfjfsadnldjb. I never thought I could hate a character SO MUCH,,,, like SO MUCH. READ TAGS, WARNINGS, AND SUMMARIES because some serious stuff really goes down. Bless Iwa-chan.

SunaOsa:

Accidentally in Love by pancake_surprise (T) 19.6k // JOSE CUERVO strikes. I love this fic and all the chaos in it. The way they were supposed to be the responsible couple (of friends LOL),,, sike. This one is only a slight angst and it’s mostly love and fun :) Also technically this is no longer the first fic in the series, but I’m still putting this one cause the other one is SakuAtsu orientated hehe :)

Spring Secrets by DeathBelle (T) 3.8k // Seasons might be one of my favorite (as all things also seem to be) series of all times. I don’t like rerecommending fics I’ve already said to read, which is why I’m not yelling at you to go read a certain other fic (which is my life and blood). Anyway, this fic series is all fluff barely angst (maybe that’s why I like it) but it’s so freakin good pls read it all ahhhhhh.

Komori/Suna (what is their ship name):

I wish to live in a world by hatsuna (T) 24.8k // ok ngl this fic was so sad and relatable? Like I was like wtf why are you making me cry rn even though like I shouldn’t be? My heart? Pain. (Hotel? Trivago.) Technically, this is END GAME but the main pairing is kinda SakuAtsu???? Something of the sort, but also their relationship (Komori and Sakusa) is written so well and idk guys I think you need to read this fic rn.

Ah the two fic limit hurt me, but fear not I am making ship specific rec posts (LOL I’m so dramatic), so if you wanted more of a ship,,,, its a coming hehe. And yes I did say I’m making an angsty fic rec post, but we’ll see if it gets finished before I side-track with posts like these LOL.

@nymerias-heart suggested a while back that we do some TWoW speculation while waiting for the next book.

So I was wondering if ASoIaF readers on here could reblog the character list below with the chapter count they think each character would get in The Winds of Winter. Would be really interesting to see this. If we have enough data we could do some statistics.

ADwD was already a big book with 16 POVs and 73 chapters. Jon had the maximum with 13 and several characters had 1 or 2 chapters. In TWoW, GRRM has to fit in 20 POV characters and cover a lot of ground and story. And we only have two books left to finish the story.

The list is below. Just enter the number of chapters next to character names. You can also enter 0, if you don’t think the character will have a POV chapter.

This is where his editor could massively help and GRRM has mentioned going back and tweaking things. For example, that Arianne sample chapter from TWoW would have her get to Young Griff instead of spending two chapters just traveling.

If we look at word counts:

A Game of Thrones: 4082 words per chapter (298k in 73 chapters)

A Clash of Kings: 4657 (326k in 70 chapters)

A Storm of Swords: 5171 (424k in 82 chapters)

A Feast for Crows: 6522 (300k in 46 chapters)

A Dance with Dragons: 5781 words per chapter (422k in 73 chapters)

He needs to go back to AGoT chapter lengths and then perhaps the limitations of book binding would not be a problem.

Here is also a link to confirmed POV chapters in TWoW. But note that this may have changed since GRRM did state in a recent notablog post that he was going back and changing things - combining chapters, splitting them, rewriting them etc.

Below the cut I have put in some of my reasoning for my POV counts.

First, I think GRRM needs to refocus on his main story and characters and make his way to the ending. That means more focus on main characters and less time spend on secondary characters. He should be spending time getting Arya, Bran, Jon, Dany and Tyrion etc. to their endgames rather than spend more time world building and telling the stories of secondary characters.

For example, Bran had like 3 chapters in Feast and Dance while Brienne got 8! Who is the more important character here? There are two books left, Bran has to finish training, find out stuff about the Others, explore lands of always winter, return south of the wall, meet back up with Jon and Arya, play a big part in defeating the Others and become King.

GRRM has written material for an entire book with Arya in Braavos. Unfortunately ASoIaF is not about Arya’s FM adventures in Braavos and Arya needs to get back to Westeros. So George has chop, cut, edit and narrow down her story there to like maybe 5 chapters before she leaves.

So either George cuts out a lot of the fat, travelogues, world building and secondary characters or he needs 8/9 books to finish or he can change his endings to suit what he has written now or he can procrastinate and just not write.

Some of the things GRRM has said regarding TWoW.

GRRM teases about events in TWOW in this interview

“I think we’re gonna start out with a big smash with the two enormous battles,” Martin says. Presumably one of those battles refers to the clash between Ramsay’s army and Stannis’s forces in the North (the outcome of which was described in Ramsay’s letter in ADWD—perhaps falsely?—but not actively shown), while the other takes place across the narrow sea when Yunkai attacks Meereen in an attempt to overthrow Daenerys. In addition, Martin says, “We have more deaths, and we have more betrayals. We have more marriages.” Let the speculation begin. As he’s noted before, Martin says the Dothraki are coming back into the story (“in a big way”), and he says “a lot of stuff is happening at The Wall.”

Of late I have been spending a lot of time with the Lannisters. Cersei and Tyrion in particular. I’ve also paid a visit to Dorne, and dropped in to Oldtown a time or three. In addition to turning out new chapters, I’ve been revising some old ones (some very old)… including, yes, some stuff I read at cons ages ago, or even posted online as samples. I tweak stuff constantly, and sometimes go beyond tweaking, moving things around, combining chapters, breaking chapters in two, reordering stuff.

For the nonce, it is what it is. My life is at home, on hold, and I am spending the days in Westeros with my pals Mel and Sam and Vic and Ty. And that girl with no name, over there in Braavos.

Now, there are three things that GRRM just has to get done in TWoW, IMO.

Daenerys Targaryen has to resolve her Essos plot and get to Westeros by the end of TWoW.

Arya has to resolve her Braavos plot and get to Westeros

Bran has to advance a great deal in his plot/Bloodraven/Others etc.

(Note: I suspect this is one of the reasons that TWoW is taking so long. By his own admission, Dany and Bran are the two characters GRRM finds hardest to write and my speculation is that there is a lot of these two characters in the next book.)

So I am going to assign Arya and Bran the most POV chapters - let’s say 8 each since they are the only POVs at their locations. The Essos plot is a complicated mess, but we have other POVs focused on there as well - Tyrion, Barristan and Victarion. And Tyrion will no doubt get a good chunk of chapters because GRRM likes to write for him and finds it easy to write for him.

For Oldtown I am assigning 6 chapters - 3 from Sam’s POV and 3 from Aeron giving us a look into what Euron is upto. Or it could be 4 for Sam and 2 for Aeron.

I suspect not much happening in Dorne until they align with Young Griff. Arianne and Jon Connington with a look into fAegon’s campaign advancing into KL. Some Vale stuff with Sansa and LF.

GRRM mentions spending a lot of time with Cersei and Tyrion. Cersei remains the only POV in KL and that’s an important location. Jaime and Brienne are together so GRRM can use either of them for Lady Stoneheart/the Brotherhood/Riverlands.

Lots happening at the wall. Big battles in the North and the resolution of the Northern plot - Theon/Asha with Stannis and Davos with Rickon/Northerners. I am not sure if Jon will get a POV - so I am giving him just 3 in case. I think the majority viewpoint will be Mel.

hello! ive been taking a break from shifting for a few months since i kept seeing people saying really unmotivating things about it and it kinda upset me but i don’t want to give up on it, do you have any tips for getting back into it/getting motivated again? thank you! <333

first, i want to apologise for the wait in answering your question. it's been like 3 weeks since this sat in my inbox and i have no excuse for not doing it. [fuck i am so sorry]

now, to answer your question:

(1) consume related content!

it doesn't necessarily have to be about shifting. for example, if you're going to a fandom-related DR, then indulge in works that center on that fandom. fanfiction, fan animations, official art, omakes, whatever it is you'll find. when i had my mini-withdrawal period, the best way I've passed off my demotivation is to stick with familiar habits. i tirelessly swept through AO3 and ff.net for fanfiction, and made playlists to take my mind off of shifting, and just focus on what my CR had to offer.

i remember thinking, 'If I can't shift, I might as well pretend to be the main character instead, and what better way than fanfiction?'. I'd bookmarked so many self-insert fics, and even wrote some of my own. if nothing else, i had a form of manifestation through writing.

(2) browse through old shifting posts

i used to do this when i was bored, or simply not in the mood to shift. i guess you could say that it's a bit like walking down memory lane; some of the older content on shiftok are actually nostalgic and entertaining, for all that most of them aren't too...genuine, if you will. [fake shifters are still a sensitive topic for me lmao]

they're still amusing, especially pottertok. some POV's also give me new ideas for my scripts, sometimes. now, though—for the most part—i just skim through posts that provide actual shifting information. it's a bit disheartening seeing some of the comments, but it's good to know shifting creators on other platforms are still holding strong. either way, you can find a lot of knowledge and entertainment when browsing through the old shifting community.

(3) manifestation subliminals

one of the most important things that've happened to me are these godsent babies. subliminals✨✨

I'm not exaggerating. sometime in november; while I'd been incredibly busy with schoolwork, my motivation for shifting also decreased. i kept procrastinating on all my tasks, both personal and academic. i resorted to manifestation subliminals as something of a last resort, and lo and behold I'm still happily crying at the fact that they worked. when i listen to them, i constantly remind myself to apply the confidence one would have when answering a simple question like 1 + 1 = ?. i needed to push through with the assumption that yes bitch, i can do it. the law of attraction works wonders.

1) How many works do you have on AO3?

110 on my main account (+ 4 on my sneaky sock for Crimes™ lol)

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?

614,551 on my main account which is. hm. a lot

3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

obvi the main ones are the terror (50 fics) and good omens (35 fics). beyond that: TMA, the OA, doctor who, LOST, red dwarf, what we do in the shadows, the aubreyad, legends of tomorrow, banished, MCU, bbc ghosts, jeeves & wooster, russian doll, true detective, twin peaks, fleabag, & it's always sunny.

so technically 19, but wow a LOT of those are because i am a fiend for crossovers. (true detective x red dwarf... twin peaks x hannibal... the OA x lost.... russian doll x doctor who...) and many of the others were one-offs for yuletide. i'm pretty monofannish when it comes to writing!

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

lol they're all going to be for good omens... let's see

1. "it's a new craze" - the podcast fic. imho this fic is the definition of "The Claw," a.k.a. the phenomenon that sees some fics plucked out from the fray to become super popular. i'm not denying that it's good! i still think it's pretty clever! but its popularity was probably as much a function of timing as of quality

2. "what a way to make a living" - the uber driver fic. honestly still pretty proud of this one, it flows well and is structurally interesting and genuinely very funny and the perfect length. i had a blast in good omens fandom writing comedic fic, this one

3. "dearly departed" - another one i'm still very happy with. my first ever finished multi-chapter fic & the story that proved to me i could sustain a plot and original characters and also that people would actually enjoy it. so a pretty big deal!

4. "blame it on my juice, baby!" - the fake love potion one. i wrote this fic while delirious with horrible fever cooped up in a tiny council flat airbnb bedroom in london. i think it's still pretty strong although since writing it i've developed a severe aversion to the "meddling friend engineers a get-together" trope in fic & so cringe a bit when i read it back, lmao

5. "greatest hits" - the one with the original songs! the songs are still good.... the fic is ehhhhhhh i guess.

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

i don't respond to comments on most of my gomens fic anymore because 🤷‍♀️ but i do try to reply to everything i get on my terror fic/smaller fandom stories! my replies are usually very lame but i do like to take the time to thank people for reading.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

i usually don't write angsty endings because i'm a weenie BUT the one exception is probably my terror/TMA crossover which cannot be said to end well by any means lol

7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

dearly departed has a very lovely ending... i will also plug my OA fic heat rises which is GREAT and has a GREAT ending and nobody read it because nobody watched the OA. i'm fine it's fine

8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

as mentioned above, yes, compulsively... award for craziest simply has to go to It's Always Sunny In Another Dimension which is, yes, an IASIP x OA crossover. i apologize for nothing

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

not that i can recall, [bubbe voice] tenks gad!!!

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

i do i do.... when i first picked up fic writing again after college i thought smut would forever totally beyond me but after some very kind encouragement from friends i tried my hand at it & was off to the races.

i would not say i am an expert at it by any means but i have a lot of fun with it, & people seem to generally appreciate it, so i will keep going!

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

also no, phew

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

yes, a bunch of my gomens fics have been translated into chinese and russian, which is so so super cool!

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

yuh, i had a few legendary cowrites in GO! the slow show metafic with cherry @fremulon and the shitscript crossover extravaganza with hallie @kalelraejepsen !!! both tremendously fun experiences

14) What’s your all time favorite ship?

that is a very tough one. if you go by my ao3 bookmarks it's aziraphale/crowley, which might be true still tbh... but i dunno. maybe ten/rose because that shit never leaves you.

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

in terms of fic i already started posting, there's my one terror WIP with amnesiac tozer that i swear i WILL finish one day... and same goes for my good omens music & lyrics AU, which i fully expect to pick back up and finish off when i inevitably return to the fandom for series 2.

as far as stuff that never made it out of drafts, i started a hodgson-centric fic a few weeks ago that i got like 4k into before realizing i need to seriously refine my approach. so hopefully after exe fest i will get around to that!

16) What are your writing strengths?

well i am funny. so i've got that going for me. other than that ummmm i don't know. i don't think of myself as a particularly good or strong writer bc i really am just here for a laff. i think i can turn a phrase well and get the most out of imagery; i'm good at coming up with compelling story concepts and weird gimmicks, i guess?

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

i fundamentally don't know or understand how People Actually Act And Feel so i have a hard time getting realistic or interesting reactions and conflicts out of characters. my plots (when my stories have them at all) are very powered by external events, i wouldn't call myself a character-driven writer by any means. for the same reasons i struggle with voice and dialogue beyond superficial signposting via vocabulary/syntax. also, sustaining a long story/finding enough Stuff To Happen to fill it up/having the patience to keep writing... is something i need to work on for sure.

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

i'm a lame american who only speaks english so honestly i don't really have thoughts!

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

i distinctly remember hand-writing in my notebook two or three pages worth of a story about what happened to the main precog in "minority report" after watching the movie when i was like seven. the first fandom i actually wrote fic for and posted it online was probably doctor who circa 2010 ish? but my warrior cats RP career predates that by a few years and i did a LOT of writing there. oh warriorsforest39 dot proboards dot com you are missed....

When it comes to my cafe I really want this cafe to be open to as much as anyone however that be reckless without some rules

I'm so sorry that I can't write for my dom, top or other readers- it's not my knowledge and I'm sure there are other cafes that serve you! I have made a lot of Tokyo revenger fic however I do want to branch out to other fandoms- Tougen Anki and Bungo stray dogs. I may try different fandoms from time to time

I may not always write a specific character only bc I'm not familiar with them or they scare me too much to get me to write

I procrastinate- just be aware if you don't see me often I might be too lazy to finish something.
