DCU from a Marvel fans limited perspective

recently i've accidently been sucked into the DCU universe, mostly Bat family, if i'm being honest, and although i've never watched a single movie/episode, this is what i have gathered from purely reading the occasional fanfiction/lots of tumblr posts

SPOILERS i guess

There are A LOT of batkids

Bruce Wayne adopts these motherfuckers like they're some kind of limited edition pokemon set

no one is actually sure how many there are but if you have black hair and blue eyes and live in gotham, Batman doesn't care if you've got parents or not. you're coming home with him

There appears to be five Robins and Batman goes though these children like a chainsmoker with a pack of cigarettes

people die a lot

Thats okay though because people come back to life a concerning amount as well

Jason Todd died and came back to life by being dumped in a pit of magical water

Damien Wayne is the only biological child of Bruce and he mentions this a lot

Dick Greyson was the first Robin and the first adoption and i think he and Bruce got in a fight and he left to become Nightwing

Jason Todd stole the Batmobile's wheels and became the second Robin. after he came back to life he became Red Hood

Tim Drake was not an orphan, he just fit Bruce's target demographic and was conveniently close (I mean come on, it's like express shipping) He is also some kind of super-genius. He was the third Robin but became Red Robin/Drake

Stephanie brown(?) was the fourth robin(?), not sure for how long. People get upset when other people forget. I think she's called Spoiler or something

Damien Wayne is the final Robin. Hes this assassins son and im pretty sure Talia dropped him off at the Wayne Manor and said, "I had him through the terrible twos, you get the teen years'

Not entirely sure if Tim runs Wayne enterprises

Brucie wayne is the funniest fucking thing i swear

He's so stupid

not sure is Tim, Dick and Jason follow Bruce's lead and become absolute airheads as well

Alfred is a butler

Alfred has guns

There's someone called Duke and Cass knocking around

The Justice League think Batman works alone

for some reason people ship the bat kids together, ike, anytime you have to remind yourself 'its TECHNICALLY not incest is Not Good'

Clark Kent is running round acting as if his reading glasses are the only thing standing between a normal life and CHAOS and the worst thing is that he is right

i am a MCU fan and i was SO sure that Deadpool was MCU but now i'm not so sure

Fandom likes to have this troupe that Bruce wayne doesn't believe batman exists when obviously the superior troupe is that Gotham is pretty sure they are exes

teen titans and young justice are a thing but i cant figure out which robin is who.

Damien Wayne has enough animals to open a zoo

[squints at the MCU] Tony Stark has displayed more ability to weather interrogation and torture than Steve Rogers.

This is "(displayed more)(ability)," not "(displayed)(more ability)," to be clear.

(I know fiction’s depiction of torture is famously propagandafied, but in this case, it’s not about torture for information so much as physical traumas shown on screen.)

(Anyway, have a rant I did on discord the other day.)

It's not really so much about "resisted the urge to hand over information" as "survived a truly harrowing experience and still came out of it trying to do good."

Tony's very first movie involves getting repeatedly drowned while in constant pain from bomb injuries as a civilian contractor, and I… don't think I can remember anything even a little similar with Steve

I don't think he's ever been captured for long before breaking out? All his injuries are in active battle, not torture.

Like... Steve went through something horrible with the ice and losing Bucky, nobody can argue that. But I think it's very telling, sometimes, that movie Steve, especially 2012 movie Steve, is completely unaware of the absolute nightmare that Tony experienced in his solo movies.

I have so many feelings about Tony Stark being the epitome of "guy who was raised and manipulated into being a bad person by someone he trusted, and (after a horrible experience) attempts to be a better person, constantly and consistently, even if he sometimes fucks up in the execution."

And the way that some fics elide his experiences in cleaning up other people's messes (first Obadiah's, then Howard's) and how that doubtlessly compounded his many neuroses from fixing messes that he did actually create himself is just

I have a lot of feelings

And am also feeling a little bitter and salty about how Tony Stark's MCU incarnation reportedly took some inspo from Elon Musk... and a little petty and satisfied about just how drastically we've all be shown that Musk can never live up to the idea of 'billionaire with inherited wealth who actually, without hesitation, risks his own life to save millions' that he tried to use PR to achieve in the media with 'my electric cars are gonna save the world' stunts about things he didn't actually have a hand in inventing

I'm just reading some fics I really enjoyed when I was still in the YA fandom, and there was a reference to a line Steve said in the movies and I started thinking (again) about how frequently fans take lines from Steve or Sam about Tony as gospel, because they haven't seen Tony's movies, and the lines from the star spangled boys are contextually meant to show that they don't know jackshit about Tony or his life, because they are directly contradicted by multiple prior films.

Also like... how often Steve's traumas get explored (in fic) in a way that Tony's just... don't? At most, his issues about Howard get explored, but that's it.

There's this moment in CACW that people take as Accurate and it infuriates me.

Tony Stark: [Back in the cell.] Just look. Because that is the fellow who was supposed to interrogate Barnes. [He shows a holographic image of Doctor Broussard.] Clearly, I made a mistake. Sam, I was wrong. Sam Wilson: That's a first.

Which, like... it's a bad movie. Obviously. But also

That line is immediately followed by Tony revealing that he's here to help the others and is sabotaging the security to make sure Ross can't take advantage, and yet fanfic still uses Sam's quote to promote anti-Tony agendas!

And 'Tony admits he fucked up' is. Like. Listen to me

Tony's first solo movie is fixing Obadiah's machinations. *

His second solo movie is fixing his Dad's fuckup.

His first team movie is fixing Thor's mistakes.

His third solo movie is fixing something that is only tangentially his fault.

It's not until AoU that the fuck-up is really his and his alone (well, not counting Bruce), and even then, even then, a massive portion of the blame is narratively laid at Wanda's feet!

And only then do we get this man, who has spent five movies seeing what happens when people don't take responsibility for their actions, or have anyone riding them to be ethical, who has criticized himself for neither having that oversight nor providing that oversight for people who snuck shit under his nose, that is when we get Tony weighing in on the side of "most countries on the planet are agreeing with this and it's for a reason, please work with me here, maybe we can get some of it rolled back to be less authoritarian and more reasonable."

* and removing himself from the military industrial complex he was raised and groomed to be in, but that's a system and not an individual act or a set 'villain'

Or as @firebirdeternal put it:

I would say that his first solo movie does have a large element of fixing his own mistakes too, it's just that his "mistake" was Trusting the Wrong Person and not taking personal responsibility for how his actions are affecting the world. (Which, he immediately does upon coming back from being captured? "We're going to immediately stop making weapons, because it's making the world worse" and then when Obadiah cuts him out of the company he goes "Oh. Okay no that didn't work, have to personally fix all this then.") and yeah it's just Tony have plenty of reasons to be on the side of "Someone needs to have oversight over this"

IM1 is such a good exploration of someone in privilege saying "this stops now" in a situation where they do have control because they have been confronted with their mistakes in a way that's unavoidable

It's also like, a great example of the fantasy of the Super Hero. Because Tony Stark, the businessman, even with all his wealth and knowledge, isn't able to stop the systemic harm being caused by His Own Company. One person isn't able to do that, even with the best of intentions. It isn't until he becomes something else, something more, a Super Hero, that he's able to make any kind of meaningful change on his own. Like IM1 is just a phenomenal movie. It understood it's subject material so incredibly well.

And people skip it and then take Steve and Sam at their word about Tony's strength of character and moral convictions and I scream.

THIS MAN FLEW A NUKE INTO A WORMHOLE WITH THE FULL EXPECTATION THAT HE WAS GOING TO DIE

Yeah, like, that Jump on the Grenade mentality is something that he and Steve actually literally share.

They both had 'jump on the explosive to save people' moments in their introductory movies.

I find so much more strength and inspiration in stories like Thor and Tony, where they are inherently fuck-ups and were shitty people and they are trying so damn hard to be better, which is more Tony than Thor really, but both of them and their first movies are just. I find that more inspiring than Steve or T'Challa or any other hero who was already a good person and just Became Great.

Tell me about the person who has to struggle to find that moral choice. Tell me about Natasha dragging herself from her oceans of blood and Tony fighting the government over whether they have the rights to use weapons he's created and about Thor having to reckon with his family's power being born of imperialistic ravaging of other cultures.

I want to hear about the people for whom being good is hard and a choice they don't have to make, but then they make it anyway.

Also I stand by "I am Iron Man. [infinity snap]" being the most amazing bookend the MCU could have done and probably the best part of the Endgame.

I have an image in my head of battison getting yelled at or like scolded by justice league members and Batfam(who always listen in cause they don’t trust the league to know when their dad needs a break) just come running like oh no oh no YOU do Not get to yell at dad.

Justice league has no idea who these young adults are but their yelling at the entire league about them being mean to their awkward dad.

OH MANNNNNN NO BECAUSE LIKE - Bruce is technically the youngest there, right? He has to be around,, I wanna say 34? Which, - to a Goddess, feels tender and breakable.

Maybe it can bc he saved Diana from something, - it's just an instinct. Something sleeping deep in his bones but ready to strike when danger hisses, but especially if it hisses at people he cares about

So yes, Diana is yelling, - asking him, what exactly do you think YOU can do? A mortal man?

And Bruce thinks, Everything I can, but doesn't say anything.

He's just... Frozen. Normally, he's not; Normally, he wrestles his shyness away and gets his point across (usually coldly and to the point, because he's uncomfortable)

because he won't allow Batman to be pushed around like Bruce Wayne was. But in this case, - he just can't, for some reason. Maybe because Diana is usually (or unusually) gentle with him.

And Clark, too, - who NEVER yells at anybody, let alone Bruce; Not even when he was being a shit on purpose, trying to make Clark snap for a quick temper check. To see if humanity's doom was Superman's bad day.

So he's silent. Takes it. Even Billy yells at him, - but it's more of a Why can't you ever think about yourself?! Yelling. He sounds a lot like Alfred scolding him.

BUT THEN.

" Dad!"

" Baba?!"

" Hey, - where's the old man?" Quietly, but Clark can pick it up, Is Papi hurt?

" Papa, let me see your arm, -"

" Wǒ bà."

" Pops, that was fucking STUPID-"

" Oh my GOD, dad, WHY would you take a bullet for WONDER WOMAN?!"

Diana points to Duke, " Thank you!" But pauses. " Um... Who are these young warriors? why is one pointing a gun at me?"

Bruce, quietly, " They're my children. I told them not to come. I'm fine."

TJL is just astounded. They had no idea Batman was a father? A father with an army of angry children to boot? " Redhood, put that away. "

" The fuck I will. I might love wonder woman but I love you more," of course there's snickering from his siblings who surround Bruce like an angry flock, helping him on his feet, but Redhood just grumbles, " Not. A fucking. Word."

Clark frowning, but we're just worried about him, - hey don't just take him! But the batkids do Not listen to him. Man of steel or not, - if your name is not Alfred Pennyworth they will NOT listen to you.

Cass is nice and stays back to reassure them Batman will be returning soon enough, pointing at herself, " I - I talk not very good. Batman understand. Words hard. Find them later. All good. But don't do mistake twice."

Honestly, I so want smiling Dick to stay back too, and just, with that blinding camera smile,

" Yell at my father again, and I'll remind you how pain tastes like. Have a good day!"

From that day, they're all Batkids super fans

You would think that since Bruce and Cass's morals are so aligned I'd be rooting for Bruce in his confrontations against Jason but you'd be wrong. If it's Cass vs Jason I'm team Cass she has the moral high ground and I like her more. If it's Bruce vs Jason neither of them fully have the moral high ground even though technically Bruce and Cass's codes are quite similar. Because unlike Cass Bruce has been used as a mouthpiece by multiple right wing writers and also just plain bad writers to the point that you have to ignore a LOT to simplify his morals down to "Killing bad." Like yeah if Jason's going around murdering people I'm rooting for say, Cass or Dick to take him down. With lots of angst and challenging their codes and making sure everyone has a bad time. But Bruce is just such an asshole and yeah, bad person, in so many other ways. (You can ignore the comics where he's horrible if you want but they exist and there have been so, so many of them it's a consistent character trait post Jason's death. And it's never character assassinating him for anyone else, he's always presented as the Protagonist even when he's going through his edgy punch the kids moments. Which sucks but that's what DC chose.)

And also Jason was sacrificed for Bruce's pain and meant to just stay dead and smeared to let Bruce get the angst without the bad dad allegations so hell yeah son. Come back to life and torment your father. Be more than just a costume in a cave. Just get better comics and better fans because when you're not fighting Bruce you've been Lobdell's pet for so long that most casual readers associate you with his godawful writing right after the UTRH movie.

I feel like I see a lot of fan authors/artists depicting Jason and Tim (and sometimes Steph) as unrelentingly mean to Damian in public, and that doesn't ring true to me. I haven't read the comics since before Damian was introduced (Wayne Family Adventures pulled me back in, and oh man there are fun DC comics these days!) so maybe I'm missing some canon examples of that... but I feel like every single child in that family gets how awful it is to be in the spotlight at a young age. They remember how awkward and exhausting it was to always smile for the camera, always be perfectly behaved, always uphold the ideal of what a Wayne adoptee should be. It didn't matter how you felt; you had to act the part. And they wouldn't make that harder for anyone.

Detailed thoughts below the fold!

Acting like a Perfect Wayne Kid™️ must be easier for Tim than for his siblings, because he was already playing that game as a Drake. But that doesn't mean it wasn't excruciating, especially for someone as introverted and wonderfully weird as Tim. Honestly, I think he'd be a mine of useful information for the later additions to the family!

I can see him at a charity dinner next to Cass, indicating which utensil comes next, murmuring, "I know, it's ridiculous. And there's no real reason, which makes it so hard to remember. But you're doing great." I can see him helping Duke practice the "right" laugh before a party: "Not too loud, not too real, not too many teeth showing. These people are terrified of genuine emotion, but in a shittier way than Bruce is." And I can most certainly see him talking Damian through how to leave a room when there are TOO. MANY. PEOPLE and the walls are closing in, showing him escape routes at different venues, explaining, "you don't want to use the bathroom excuse too many times in a row. People notice and tabloids start saying you have an eating disorder. I'll text you a list of alternate reasons to leave a conversation."

What I cannot see is Tim leaving anyone out to dry in the hell of high society. Even if Dami were driving him NUTS, I don't think Tim would call him a brat, insult him outright, or badmouth him to others. I think the worst thing he'd do is roll his eyes with humorous exaggeration and say, "okay, Damian, you've done your little brotherly duties--go talk to your friends, okay?" He could be SEETHING about a horrific fight 30 minutes before their appearance and play it off as, "haha, well, all brothers bug each other sometimes." And then he'd pivot, flawlessly, to a positive comment about the whole family, Dami included. Tim Drake, world champion of compartmentalization, fiercely loyal and kindhearted, is not giving the press a single bad word about his siblings. He is smiling and saying all the right things.

And then... then, there's Jason.

Jason understands, firsthand, how hard being inducted into the world of Perfect Wayne Behavior™️ is. Can you imagine Jason Peter Todd going through that? It's not just that he was in a new world, where money and food and clothes were a given, not a hard-won prize. It's not just that there were a million new rules to memorize (how to wear a suit, inscrutable dining etiquette, passive aggression instead of speaking your mind when angry, etc.). It's not just that he was suddenly thrust in the limelight at a young age, thrown in at the deep end of child stardom. It's not just that he was inevitably compared to Dick, who's naturally charismatic in a way that made his rambunctiousness forgivable by Gotham's elite. It's not just that he was simultaneously learning to be a Wayne AND a Robin, which was both mentally and physically exhausting.

No, it was all that PLUS who Jason was when he had just been adopted. Picture him: a kid from Crime Alley, recently out of a school for troubled youth, mourning the loss of his mother, and WAY too fucking smart not to see the condescension in the eyes of his new dad's peers. He was treading water constantly in every aspect of life, occasionally managing to float... all while the press and high society watched intently and judged him like he was swimming in the Olympics. Being Robin gave him magic, but god, he must have used so much of it up on just getting through public appearances.

I refuse to believe that someone who went through that would belittle or humiliate anyone doing the same. Especially when it comes to Damian. Damian, who comes from a world where physical prowess is the ultimate trump card, now trapped in a conversation where mentioning that prowess means he loses status. Damian, who knows the worst physical pain you can imagine and takes it as all in a day's work, struggling to contain his disdain for someone complaining about their tennis elbow. Damian, who was exposed to the worst aspects of humanity before he could form permanent memories, staring in disbelief at a kid his age saying the teacher who gave them an hour of detention is SO evil. Damian, who had mastered the rules of the League, discovering that the rules of Gotham high society are SO different that his prior knowledge is actively disadvantaging him.

I cannot imagine Jason seeing Damian as anything other than a fellow kid trapped in the pool with all eyes on him.

So Jason will do what he's always done: stand up for someone in need. Because Damian IS in need, no matter how much of a pain-in-the-ass he might be. That means Jay is telling the press about how smart Damian is, how good he is with animals, how proud the whole family is of his art. It means he's wearing suit pants with deep pockets so Damian's emotional support plushie is on hand at all times. It means he's using his bulk to clear the way to the balcony when the kid needs air and quiet. It means he's verbally eviscerating the posh knob who called Dami a brat, because NO ONE outside the family gets to say that shit about Jason fucking Todd's baby brother.

I don't care how annoyed they are with each other--bat kids hang together in the face of danger. And make no mistake: being a Perfect Wayne™️ is one of the most dangerous missions they face.

New Beginnings

(Bruce Wayne x Batmom!Reader, Batmom!reader x Dick Grayson, and Batmom!reader x Jason Todd)

Word count: 3,054

Synopsis: The manor feels empty, since Dick left to live on his own. Bruce is angry. (and sad) You are definitely sad. But who knew that a new beginning was waiting for them. More like, stealing from them but who cares!

Warnings: Angst, not a lot though, Fluff, SOOO FLUFFY, and Dick Grayson anger......

(*A/N: I'm not entirely accurate with the ages in this fic but it's fan fiction, soooo and anyway Dick is eight years older than Jason and probably later on I'll make them closer in age but, for now Dick left when he was 18 instead of 19 to live in Bludhaven and Jason left to live with Bruce when he was 10 instead of 11)

The big fight.

Such a trivial thing that progressed into Dick yelling and Bruce yelling back. You weren't there, when it happened but walking into dinner that night you could feel the tension. “Okay” you say dropping your fork onto your plate and placing your elbows on the table. You could feel Alfred’s disapproval from here. “What is up with you two?”

They turn their heads to you, in sync of course. Like father like son. Your son. Ever the drama queen answers first, “Nothings wrong mom. right dad?” You roll your eyes and glare at your son. “Richard Grayson. I can feel your sarcasm from here. Now I'll ask again, whats with you too?”

This time you direct the question towards your husband. He looks up at you with his usua blank face but only you can read the hint of sadness and hurt that coats it. Oh yeah, something definitely happened.

“Dick, here thinks he's and adult.”

“Well I-”

“SO much of an adult that he thinks he's ready to go on his own.”

You're confused. “I'm confused, do you want to move out?” you can't help but have a tint of sadness and shock in your voice, because well your baby is leaving. You should of saw it coming actually, He wasn’t going to stay here forever, I mean at first it started with him leaving at 16 to start a team.

And even that was hard for you and Bruce. The fight that caused that situation is a WHOLE other thing but moving out? You baby boy leaving your home? This was going to take some time to digest. Like you said, you should’ve seen it coming.

He was eventually...... gonna grow up and leave. Oh geez you feel like crying.

Dick sees your sullen face and hurriedly tries to explain. “NO! I mean…yes! It’s just…well.... I'm eighteen mom. I am an adult.”

Those four words almost sent you into a spiral, so much so the sadness is evident on your face. You didn’t want to make him feel bad about wanting to leave. Oh god no, you wouldn’t and haven’t been that mom EVER to guilt trip their children into doing what they wanted to do.

It’s one of the first things you discussed with Bruce when you both first got Dick. You both never wanted to be those parents. Though it seems like Bruce has a harder time conveying the right emotions, and Dick easily gets riled up. Especially if he’s told he can’t do something he wants to do.

Ugh, like father like son.

“See, you've upset your mother.” You hear Bruce say, bringing you out of your thoughts.

You quickly look at Dick and see the guilt creeping up all over his face and you start to reassure him that you're not upset about him leaving.

Well of course you're upset about that, but more of the fact that he’s not so little any more. That your baby boy is growing up and leaving you. But a small part that will soon blossom is happy he's finding his own way. But Bruce uses your silence as a way to egg on this already heated argument, he stands up from his chair and points a finger at Dick.

“You shouldn’t leave! You're still a kid. What you think- you think you're gonna be able to live by yourself at this age?! You don’t know a thing about living on your own.” Bruce was literally grasping at straws. Trying to find any reason to try and keep Dick here. Now you were getting angry.

Okay this has gone too far now. You know Bruce is sad that Dick is leaving and though it’s not right way to do it he chooses to express this through anger and inexcusable behavior.

“Bruce STOP!” You exclaim, almost out of your seat.

“NO MOM it’s obviously how he feels!” you look towards Dick too see he's abandoned his food too, and is standing up from his chair. “You don’t think I can do it! Live on my own. That I'll never be anything more than Robin. Nothing more than your side kick!”

“That is not what I said!”

“BUT ITS WHAT YOU MEANT!”

“STOP being ridiculous Dick! I can't believe we are having this discussion right now! especially in front of your mot-”

“ENOUGH!” their heads snap to you and immediately cower under your gaze.

They're in trouble. They both know it. Raising their voices at each other and throwing cheap shots. But their pride and their ego stop them from admitting their wrongs.

You internally sigh, sometimes it’s too much masculinity in you life.

“What is the matter with you two, that I can't even mention the tension in the room without you wanting to scream at each other?!” Chest heaving and red in the face from anger. You sit back down, and dig back in to your pasta.

The boys stand there, confused. So confused. They glance at each other for answers, before they remember they are supposed to be mad at each other and look away.

“uhh. mom?” you look up from your pasta to see Dick looking at you nervously. You soften your face and smile. “Sit down baby.” you turn your head to Bruce “both of you.” They both slowly sit down and dig back into their pasta.

“Dick, do you want to move out honey?” Honey. Your nickname that’s reserved for him since he was eight years old. That simple word makes all his anger disappear and he raises his head towards you with eyes filled with guilt, like the words he’s about to say is going to make you cry. Probably will.

“I’m ready to leave mom. NOT ready to leave you guys of course, just ready to find myself? As cliche as it sounds. I just want, No... I need to be on my own.” You smile with tears in your eyes and lay your had on his cheek. With watery eyes and a wobbly happy smile.

“Oh sweetheart, I'm not sad that you want to leave. You leaving doesn't hurt my feelings honey. I’m happy you want to find yourself. Whatever makes you happy hun I'm always going to support you.” You say it with such conviction and truth that dick sags with relief and almost sheds a tear. He smiles his brilliant bright smile back at you.

“And, your dad I'm sure feels the same way.” You both turn you heads to your husband to see him looking at you both with soft eyes. Bruce sighs before he stands up from his chair. “c’mon chum... lets talk again” he says it so nervous and shy it almost makes you smile,

Oh your Bruce is just so worried he’s gonna ruin it with Dick. You face back towards your son with a smile and jerk your head towards Bruce. You watch him rise from his seat and follow his dad into the study, both glancing at each other nervously and Dick fiddling his fingers. Oh your boys, you don't know where they would be without you. You hear a cough from the door way to see Alfred looking at you with a raised eye brow and a smile. You just shrug your shoulders and smirk.

That was two months ago. Bruce and Dick eventually came back from the study their differences reconciled (I will NOT let canon batdad be a man who can't say I love you to his kids shine through in this Bat-mom series! Sorry, not sorry. We only accept good Batdad here!) and we started looking for Dicks new apartment.....in Bludhaven.

You know when you thought about Dick moving into his own home you thought Gotham. The same city, a few miles away, easy to pop in whenever you missed him but no, it’s a whole different one, but... if that what your baby boy wants that's what he’ll get.

So you and a very sad Bruce go apartment hunting in Bludhaven. You eventually found an apartment after Bruce saying no to all the other ones and saying they weren't good enough, Dick fell in love with one with an amazing view and Bruce, very slowly admitted he liked it too. That made Dicks smile even bigger.

Now you, Bruce and Alfred are all alone. No more Dick running to you when he wanted something, no more Dick begging Bruce to fix the railing so he can balance on it again, no more Dick begging Alfred to a make his favorite dinner (Mac and cheese) No more Dick.

It was sad. You were sad, Bruce was sad, and Alfred was sad. You three were all adjusting to life without Dick in your home every day and night. Sure he called, almost everyday,

”Mom how do I use a can opener?”

“Do I put the stove on 350 or 360 degrees?”

“Yeah, yeah I meant oven” but it wasn't the same.

One night, After Bruce was finished meeting Gordon, and going over the new riddler case. He finds himself driving back there, where it happened. He doesn't do it often but some nights he can't stop himself.

You know about his drives to Crime Alley and what it does to him, when he comes home and his usual aura of broodiness increases and the bad memories and thoughts come back, but your always there for him when he's ready to talk, with open arms and soothing words, that's what makes him choose to actually go to Crime Alley. The promise you'll be there for him when he comes home.

Your his home.

He parks the Bat-mobile and gets off and patrols the area for an hour, scaring off criminals and watching over the innocent people of the neighborhood, if he can even call it that, before he decides he should stop torturing himself and makes his way back into the car.

He’s walking towards the car when he sees it. Little stick like legs sticking up underneath the Bat-mobile. Immediately he’s on alert, someone is trying to mess with the Bat-mobile. It’s upon closer inspection and him slowly walking towards the car when he sees that the person is trying to.....trying to steal the tires! Oh... You’d love this.

He's ready to yell at the person trying to steal from him when he hears a small gasp. He looks towards the tire to see the skinniest boy he’s ever seen with a tire iron in his hand and grime all over his face looking up at him with fear in his eyes. It’s at this moment he wishes he chose to wear a less intimidating costume, because the fear and worry in the little boys eyes make this heart twist. “what are you doing?” He speaks in an unusually soft voice. well as soft as she can while being Batman.

The boy nervously swings the tire iron in his hand up at bruce. Shocked but quick, bruce catches it before it hits his face and rips it out of the little boys hand. The gangly kid realizing he’s weaponless scrambles up from the ground to his feet and stumbles off into an alley yelling obscenities. Bruce still reeling from the “attack” follows the kid and corners him in the alley way. He asks again in his “Batman voice” this time.

“What are you doing?”

The intimidation obviously spooks the kids because the next thing Bruce knows is the little boy is stuttering out an apology and slides his eyes around not looking at Bruce, he assumes he's too nervous to make eye-contact because when he squats down towards the little boy’s height, he scrambles back into the wall. His eyes widened and his face scrunches up like he is anticipating a hit. Yeah, this hurts. "Hey, I'm not going to hurt you. Okay?"

The little boy looks up at him with cautious and disbelieving eyes. “How-how do I know you ain’t lying?……..I was going to hit you?” He’s looking at Bruce likes he’s insane. He was going to steal his tires and hit him. Why isn't he upset?!

“Because that's not what I do.”

The skinny kids silent disbelief tells Bruce what he thinks of that answer.

“What if I show you something to make you trust me?” he can't believe he’s going to do this. This kid was gonna swing on him with a tire iron. For some reason he admires the action, rather than judging it. The boy looks up at him with disbelief swimming in his eyes before slowly nodding. Bruce takes a deep breath in and hopes he won't regret this, something tells him he won't. He takes off his cowl.

And looks up towards the boy and hearing his loud gasp makes his lips curl up. “Your- You're..... You're Bruce Wayne! OH MY GOD NO WAY!”

“okay kid.....settle down ju-”

“I mean I knew he had to be someone but you? well I never though it be you!”

he doesn't know if he should be offended or not he chooses to ignore it....for now, he’ll talk to you about it later.

“Trust me now?” The little boy smiles a big smile,

“Oh Yeah! definitely now” Bruce puts back his cowl on and asks the boy again. “what were you doing with the Bat-mobile?”

All traces of a smile wipes off his face and Bruce wants to take the question back because now he's nervous,

“Ahhh about that, sorry mister I...I s- shouldn't have done that. It’s just if I came back to my... neighborhood with the bat-mobiles tires....I would get a lot of money, and you see I need the money and yeah. YEAH! So sorry for trying to hit you, i was just scared. I’m really really sorry, so yeah and I won’t take your tires again promise.”

He says it with such honesty Bruce believes him. He reminds him of you. “what’s your name?” Bruce chooses to ask instead of continuing the conversation about tires, it seems to be a good idea because the little boy sheepishly smiles and whispers his name “Jason. Jason Todd”

It’s fitting Bruce thinks. he can't help but want to keep talking the kid and asks him the question that he definitely knows the answer to, “Are you hungry Jason?” His stomach growls, and they both release soft laughs.

*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_

Bruce is late. He usually is back around 2 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. but it’s now three thirty in the morning and you're getting worried. You’re walking down the steps to the bat cave when you hears the engine of the Bat-mobile in the distance. You sigh out of relief of him being okay and on his way, but also ready to yell at him for being late and making you stay up. (you can't fall asleep without him)

He pulls up into the “driveway” and gets out and just as you're about to yell at him you look down to see a small set of shoes peeking out beneath his cape. Little shoes. Oh, what did he do?

Confused you look towards Bruce for answers to see him looking anywhere but you, suddenly hesitant. Narrowing your eyes you ask the question, “Bruce who’s shoes do those belong to and is there a little someone behind you?” You ask in a silly voice. Hoping to ease whoever is hiding behind your husband.

Bruce huffs out a breath and squats down. Still shielding someone from you. You hear him whispering and it’s when you hear a soft whisper back. Bruce turns his body towards you extending his arm out, you grab it and squat down to his level, “This is Jason”

You turn your head to see a little boy with the darkest hair and lightest blue eyes you’ve ever seen, and looking at you nervously almost scared of your reaction to him. You softy smile in return and you can visibly see his shoulders drop in relief. You turn towards Bruce with questions in your eyes.

“Brought him here to stay the night.” You raise your eyebrows out of shock and a happiness that your turn your head back to the 10 year old boy and smile.

“Hi, I'm Y/n, it’s wonderful to meet you Jason” He smiles back and you think you haven't seen anything more adorable and speaks with the cutest Gotham accent you've ever heard, “it’s nice to meet you too Y/n, it’s okay I stay with you and B?” B awee, Bruce already has a nickname. Makes you want one.

“Of course Jason, in fact Alfred just made cookies today and I'm sure we can heat them up? do you want to come with me upstairs?”

He looks up at bruce for approval and you can't help but feel your heart melt in your chest. Bruce nods and sends him a small smile, and Jason whips his head to you and quickly nods his head. You let out a loud laugh and stand up and hold out your hand for him to take, he slowly takes you hand and that’s when you feel warmth spread through your body. His little fingers curling around yours. Makes you think of Dick when he was younger.

It’s barley been five minutes and this kid has you hooked. You don't think you’ll let him go until he gives you a nickname too. And even then you don't think you’ll want to let go.

You lead him upstairs talking his ear off about how good Alfred’s cookies are and how much he’ll like them, and it’s when he shyly asks if there's chocolate chip, you gasp and exclaim “OF COURSE there’s chocolate chip cookies jay!” you don't even notice the name slipped out of your mouth but Jason does and he smiles and lets out a loud laugh, he talks more with you after that.

Bruce knows you’ll have questions and he’ll definitely answer them, but watching you two completely ignore his existence and walk off into your own word in the five minutes of meeting each other, he knows he made the right decision when it came to bringing Jason back home.

He quickly showers and changes into a t-shirt and sweats and walks up to the doorway of the kitchen to see you two both smiling and laughing, it makes him feel warm inside and he can't wait for Jason to be living with you guys permanently. And when you catch his eyes in the doorway and smile. He knows for sure he made the right choice.

i've found your account only a few days ago but ever since then I've been STUCK here rereading your fanfics, especially ones with damian. i wasn't even a dc fan (heard about some stuf, watched some films and cartoons, but that's it) but now im reading comics since im Obsessed and need more batboys in my life (rip my productivity😔)

Anyway, after Sleepover i'm curious what will Bruce (and maybe even Thalia) think of batboys strange behaviour towards reader. He's smart, so he definitely notices it early on, but how he'll react....

I can see him being weirded out (like he was by Jason's anger issues, before his death), but he also can be an enabler, since Robin (literaly any of them) had a hard life, so if those relationships can help him why not pretend that everything is normal? you'll be safer in a Wayne's Manor anyway

All in all, thanks for a new hyperfixation 💞💞

P.s. About games:

1. Boyfriend to death 1&2 - since you're into yanderes you might want to check this game out. I prefer the second game, but the first is also fun. But beware the trigger warnings!!

2. Long live the Queen - more of a raising sim than dating sim but you still can romance some guys and girls.

,3. Hatoful Boyfriend - mostly a comedy, but there is a yandere.

4. The Royal Trap - it's been a long time since i played it, but it used to be one of my favorites so i'll just mention it.

i agree entirely about bruce just knowing how Bad things can get, so to make things simpler, he's like "yes, your darling(s) can stay in the manor, boys. 🙄"

mmm yes..... when it comes to bruce noticing the batboys are yandere, i think it's always sinfully delightful to just have him be reluctantly okay with it. 😈 it's also easier narratively ngl but i also like the idea that the batfam is all just corrupted.

bruce's thoughts are that they (his sons) fight for vengeance and justice but this is where they could use some leeway.... we all need our vice... they fight so hard for gotham, they deserve a little treat (getting rid of your human rights)... it's very "Dad who wants his sons to have happiness even if its not healthy" of him. in fics where bruce is a yandere, well, he's the exact same way so he can't judge. although if that's the case, i like the idea of bruce just being like "yes what we do isn't right. let's not talk about it. just don't kill <3"

still wondering what i like more. a yan!bruce who's self aware what he's doing is wrong but he just refuses to think about it. or a yan!bruce that justifies it all because of his paranoia, Tower of Babel style (if you don't know, that's when it's revealed batman has plans to subdue/kill the justice league just in case they go rogue.)

for the batboys depends on their personality... for damian, he's so resolute in things that i prefer when he just believes 100% what he's doing is okay, if not actually righteous. ^_^

hmmm talia.... I'M STILL UNSURE HOW I PREFER THAT AS WELL... i think talia being a you-arent-good-enough-for-my-son mom is a little cliche but also. she kinda would say that. you'd have to prove your worth somehow but idk how tf darling would do that LOL. in the end, i think talia is just relieved/comforted that her son indeed feels desire and wants love and will continue the family legacy (regardless if youre afab/can biologically have children.)

Dick Grayson Angst

I'm in a mood and I just really needed to write some angst. I have found a depressing shortage of Dick angst. There is so much angst for Jason, Tim and even Damian but I feel a deep lack of Dick angst. As the oldest child in a large family with a dead brother, I feel it is my duty to provide (he just like me fr)

I can't spell very well bc of my dyslexia, I do have Grammarly on but it misses some things so I can't promise that everything in this post will be legible, I just really needed to get this down.

TW: oldest child/good child syndrome, mentioned noncon, death, canon typical violence, (I'm sorry to all my can-do-no-wrong Batdad fans but I’m sticking to canon Batman here) child abuse, emotional/physical abuse.

• Dick is the oldest, that much is a given. But as the oldest he was the “guinea pig” or the “experiment” child of the family. He's seen it all. Bruce had no idea how to raise a child so any parenting skills, good and bad (mostly bad) were tested out on Dick.

• It's no secret that Jason was the favorite Robin out of the two of them. Dick knew it. But come on! Jason came from the shittiest of situations, he was a street rat, and his mom was an addict. Of course, he was happy when Bruce took him in. Bruce was probably a Saint compared to the things Jason had lived through. Dick on the other hand came from a loving family. Two parents who would do anything for him, showering him with love and praise. So when he was suddenly taken in, taught to be a vigilante by a man that would hit him, yell at him, was cold, showed no emotion except rage, pretended to love him unconditionally in front of the Press, show him little to no love behind closed doors. Do you really think Dick was going to just be happy-go-lucky?

• Dick sees each one of his younger siblings as his charge. When he gets a new one, (whether he likes it or not) he takes over as big bro immediately, feeling like it's his responsibility to raise them in areas bats never could. I feel like he wants to be a shield between his sibling and their father. Most of the newer kids will never know about the man Bruce was when it was just one Robin. Cold, mean, unforgiving. But he would show them lobe in places where Bruse was still lacking.

•He probably resents Bruce in some way for it. He can’t show it though. The man took him in when he had nothing. But if Bruce is capable of loving the family he has now. Why couldn’t he love Dick then back when he needed him the most? Of course that doesn’t change the fact that he will *always* come back to Bruce. It doesn’t matter how much shit Bruce puts him through, he would never leave Bruce forever. He loves him more than anything and would always but Bruce first, right along with his siblings.

• Dick has a problem with putting his sibling needs first. You will rarely catch him being sad or vulnerable in front of his family members. This is funny because he’s always the one encouraging his family to feel their emotions and let things out when they need to. He's always there when they need to vent, ready to listen and to be a shoulder to cry on.

• He can’t be sad though. He the happiest person, he has to be happy to help navigate the angst. He’s the glue. The strong hold of the family. When there’s a fight (mostly between a sibling and their emotionally stunted father) Dick will play the mediator every time.

• I feel like Tim reminded Dick of Bruce a little too much. So, yes, Dick loves Tim. Of course he does. But Tim is also pretty emotionally stunted. Meanwhile Damien is a ball of rage. Damien is so obviously autistic (I have much reasoning for this one but I can get into another day) and needs so much patience and love. Dick threw himself wholeheartedly into his youngest brother. Their dad was “dead” and he had nothing left so he used raising the boy as a way to cope, even if it meant leaving Tim in the shadows.

• He regrets leaving Tim the way he did. But he just couldn't handle it at the time. He would later believe himself to be turning into Bruce. The thought alone causes Dick to break down. He hates hurting his sibling more than anything, he would die for anyone of them and it hurts him to know they hurt.

• Dick has a problem with wanting to fix everything and everyone. Even his own friends and team members. He probably doesn’t even recognize it, but whenever he is forced to come to grips with the fact that he can’t help a certain person it eats at him.

• He uses sex as a coping mechanism. It’s no secret to anyone that he has slept with *a lot* of people. He thinks sex is the only way to get people to love him because he doesn’t really understand what a healthy relationship looks like. It gets him into situations that he doesn’t want to be in. But he believes he deserves it when those things happen because it means he’s loved. He's only ever had Playboy Bruce to truly base a relationship off of, not remembering his parents relationship well enough.

• Leading off of the last point, he doesn’t know how to say no. He will agree to even the worst of things because he craves the validation that comes from doing things for people, no matter the cost to himself. He will end up piling favors on top of favors until it becomes so overwhelming he breaks.

• He probably breaks in manic sort of way. Like, he will go out of his way to deny that anything is wrong and let everything build for weeks to months until it bubbles over and he just goes nuts. It’s mostly a self destructive sort of nuts though. He might panic and clean his apartment until his fingers are raw from cleaning chemicals, maybe he will throw himself into a fight he knows he can’t handle just to get beat up. He might throw out everything he owns before panicking at what he’s done and go back in search of the things he just tossed. But all the while he would go out of his way to make sure no one knew what was happening.

• Being Robin, being the “oldest”, being the one to raise his younger siblings, to create a path for them to follow while also guiding to follow their own paths. He lost who he was. Who is Dick Grayson if not a vigilante? Who is the person behind the mask? He doesn't know. It's why he left. It's why Bruce was so angry. Dick was supposed to be his protege, but that isn't the life Dick wanted. And when Jason died, the only piece that Dick had of himself, that part that was a brother, the last that finally had a *close* friend, died right along with him. Even after Jason came back, Dick never really found that piece of himself again. Dick left to Bludhaven to finally find himself. But the cowl would forever remain a piece of him that he could not shake.

• Bruce is probably trying to be a better parent/person. Dick is proud of him, but he still doesn't fully trust it and Bruce knows that. But Bruce won't do anything, especially not apologize for the things he’s done to his eldest. But Bruce will tell him he’s proud of the person Dick has become. That probably tears Dick to pieces for reasons he doesn’t understand. He probably has been waiting for the praise his whole life and now that he has it it makes him sick in a way he can't comprehend.

• There are days that he is almost %100 sure that the only reason he keeps going is because of his family. Not his precinct, not whatever one sided relationship he’s found himself in (until Barbara that is, but even she counts as family) not his job, not his friends, not even himself. He’s living for his family. Even when his family is falling apart at the seems, he is still living for them. It’s tiring, sure. But he does it because it’s all he’s ever known. Living for Bruce for years, living for Jason and Alfred and Barbara then for Tim and Damien, then Steph and Cass and Duke. It’s what he does. It’s what he knows.

OKAY SO. I'm just sorta grabbing a combination of Tim comics that I think are Important and Tim comics that I think are just good. I'm sure I'm missing some great ones, so Tim fans feel free to chime in.

Individual storylines:

Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying - Tim's introduction

Detective Comics #618-621, Batman #455-457 - Shortly after, rounding out Tim's origin story

Robin II: Jokers Wild - Tim's second miniseries, where the newbie Robin has to take care of the Joker alone

Batman #480 - interesting reflection on Tim's relationship with his dad

Batman: Knightfall - First big Batfamily storyline. Admittedly it has been a while since I read this, but the first part "Knightfall" (in which things go bad) and the third/final part "KnightsEnd" (in which everyone comes together and also Dick is back!!) I remember enjoying. The middle ("Knightquest") is both not as good, too long, and has less Tim. Tim's solo series also started here.

Batman: Prodigal - Dick & Tim!!!!

Batman: Contagion + Batman: Legacy - A pair of batfamily stories, where a plague hits Gotham and Tim has a bad time.

Young Justice: The Secret - Tim, Kon, and Bart team up for the first time, alongside the fourth founder of the Young Justice team...

Nightwing #25 - single issue with Dick & Tim

Batman: No Man's Land - Okay, so this is like The batman storyline ever, but I also must inform you here that it is the longest ever, and that Tim and most of the family don't start appearing until halfway through. But the story really hits its stride at that point and it's great.

Batman: Gotham Knights #1-11 - Not all of these issues are about or even include Tim, but the first arc of this run is one of my favorite batfam storylines.

Bruce Wayne: Murderer? / Bruce Wayne: Fugitive - Bruce gets accused of murder, and the ensuing events highlight a lot of interesting family dynamics.

Batgirl #18 - single issue with Cass & Tim

Robin #100-120 - imo the best of Steph & Tim

Robin #124-126 - big change to the status quo with Tim's dad

Robin/Batgirl: Fresh Blood - Cass & Tim bonding in grief

Nightwing #110 - Look this issue is not about Tim and maybe not important, but I play favorites when it comes to the Dick & Tim duo and their conversation here makes me sad

Batman: Face the Face - Things finally start to get better in Gotham with a classic Batman detective story with Bruce & Tim, ending with a major step for them

Can I be a little bitch for a second and complain about something...

(Also because I haven't written a post in a while, lol)

People that hate Damian Wayne's character are weird.

Like, let me make something clear first: people are obviously allowed to dislike Damian as a character for wtv reason (although, it is better when the reasons that people dislike him for come from actual canon and not fanon, and it's not because of, ya know, stuff like racism...).

However, it's really hilarious (in a dumb way, sorry not sorry) when I see fans of Jason and Tim specifically (which is funny, considering I'm one as well) shit on Damian as if he is like a little monster that did the most horrible shit imaginable just because in the stories he first appeared in, in main canon, he did some questionable actions, such as cutting Tim's line. But most of the time these same people almost never talk about what were Damian's reasons to do this and some even say stuff like "Jason was justified in shooting Damian that one time./It was satisfying to see the brat being shot by Jason." or something else like that.

And I sit here like: excuse me but WHAT THE FUCK??

Look, I get the argument "these are fictional characters written by adults, so it doesn't matter that Damian is a kid, he still did messed up things" to a certain degree. However, it still doesn't change that they are still writting a child. And just because some of you people don't like Damian because he is a brat, that doesn't mean you can completely ignore (or outright make up/change) the context surrounding Damian's character, while at the same time giving characters like Jason Todd, that at the time Damian was introduced in Post-Crisis did way way more messed up shit, justifications such as "it's bad writing", "it's classist", "Jason has trauma".

WHEN THE SAME/SIMILAR FREAKING REASONS APPLY TO DAMIAN'S CHARACTER AND WRITING AS WELL!!! Aka, "bad writing" (that can be everywhere for any character, not just for Jason, duh), "racist writing" (unfortunately), "Damian has trauma" (yes, yes he was. And he came with some fucked up baggage of it when he first met his father, just like Jason did, why do some people ignore this just because of Damian's heritage or something).

ALSO: some people sure love to forget that there is a big ass difference between "Damian is a 9-year-old that grew up in an assasssins cult, and thus he isn't familiar/adjusted with his dad's world and rules" and "Jason is a grown ass man that keeps hurting other people because of his trauma, including people that have nothing to do with his trauma to begin with" (*cough* Mia Dearden *cough*, *cough* The Titans *cough*; also, opposite to Damian, he didn't grow up being taught to kill people, lmao). So, like, idk dude, they all have messed-up trauma and you don't see all of them going on killing sprees and torturing innnocent people because of it...

Like, I love Jason, I love Tim. But I don't hate Damian, Dick and/or Bruce, just because in certain situations they wronged my faves. Also, it's good to recognize that the faves messed up too. That they hurt other people. I mean, why the fuck do some of you people justify Jason (especially him) and Tim's wrong actions to the moon and back, but don't extend the same courtesy to other characters in similar situations... like, it doesn't seem fair or make that much sense to me...

Like,, really, I'm sorry but people saying in the same breath that "Jason deserves to be understood on his violence because of his trauma" and "Damian is evil because he tried to hurt people" (also because of trauma, btw) are kinda hypocritical, sorry (not sorry actually).

(Also, why tf do some people make "who is the most traumatized Batboy" type competitions that usually downplay the trauma of the Batboys/Batfamily members they don't care about or like?? The point of the Batfamily is that they all are messed up people that came together by chance and because they share similar trauma and desire to help others, while at the same time being a dysfuncional mess of a family. Like, that's the fun part. And ya, that also means they have to have moments where they get along and recognise when they fucked up. And all of them had situations where they fucked up and hurt others. There is no "100% innocent/justified" member in the Batfam. All of them fucked up big time at some point, okay?? And that is part of what makes them interesting characters. Like, sorry for ranting so much but I don't understand people that act as if their favourite characters can never do any wrong or did any wrong when they actually did...)

I stand with the hc that Branch has one hell of a stomach, and that sweets aren’t his strong suit- he doesn’t mind the occasional cupcake or cookie, but he definitely doesn’t have the same tolerance as Poppy or any other troll-

I like to think the brothers all have different levels of tolerance to sugar, and their diets are a lot different than a common pop troll (seems like pops are the only one who ever really live off a lot of sweets from what we’ve got- correct me if I’m wrong tho-)

JD, I feel like, has the most similar diet to Branch, since he lived a lonesome life and most likely had to feed off of what the forest had and what little he could get his hands on, such as berries and whatnot- like Branch, he wouldn’t be as tolerant to sugar, but it isn’t half as intense as Branch- or maybe he’s just not that big of a fan-

now, Bruce, from what we’ve seen of his restaurant, seems more into sea food than anything, so his diet most likely consists of that- since he has kids, he’d be a lot more tolerant to sweets since you cannot tell me this man didn’t sneak in a few whenever the kids got to eat some- he gives “cool dad” vibes that shares everything with his kids- he’s open to anything new (another quirk he attained from having kids) and he isn’t that picky when it comes to food

Clay’s diet consists of fast food, such as fries, burgers and whatnot- definitely a lot of sugar too, so out of all of them, he’s definitely the better one at keeping sweets down-

for Floyd, I feel like the food he ate was rather vast- we aren’t entirely sure what he did during the 20 years alone, but I like to hc that he explored troll kingdom, most likely trying out the different dishes in each territories and just evolving his preferences and all- between all of them, he’s got the biggest range of tastes, and he’s never afraid to try out something new- sweets are fine for him, he just doesn’t go overboard unlike some others-

I've always loved the idea that Branch doesn't stomach sugar well, but while it makes sense for him as a character I also acknowledge that I'm projecting onto him. Sugar makes me ill and it's interesting to have a character that I think can relate to that.

I think it'd be an interesting thing for Poppy to realize. Poppy is obviously a very excitable and very giving troll and I imagine that she'd give Branch a lot of sweets just because it's customary amongst Pop Trolls. Branch, the poor lovesick idiot, would feel bad letting Poppy's hard work go to waste so he'd just eat it and endure the stomach ache later.

At some point or another Poppy would discover Branch curled up, unwell over the sugar overload, and he'd be forced to confess that he doesn't really do sugar. Poppy would feel so guilty and Branch would feel even more outcasted from the Pop Trolls even after he'd regained his colors.

Poppy starts making him muffins and scones instead, less sugar and no frosting, and Branch finds that they actually aren't that bad. He still can't stomach the whole thing at first but he finds that some pastries are actually pretty good. His favorite is the lemon poppyseed muffins. No reason. Don't look into it too much.

(without judgment) may i know why you like tim? i mean the reasons why he is the "best" robin for many people, (according to you). You seem to really know his character

Ah, okay, so this seems like a serious ask, so I'll sit down and actually answer it.

I like Tim because, at his core, he believes he is a good person, and does good things. Is this true? Well, in most cases, yes. His morals can be loose sometimes, and he's always this close to snapping and becoming a genocidal dictator, but his conviction that he is a good person and those aren't "good person things to do" stop him. He's silly and dumb and so so complex and seems generic on the surface, but I swear he is so, so much more.

He's undoubtedly a good Robin. He was the first to get the Robin suit pants (thank God for that, though the scaly shorts were cute), and his writers loved him and loved Robin. Tim’s hardworking, a fast learner, kind, canonically the most intelligent Robin and a better detective than Batman himself. (Not to say any of the Robins are stupid, they're all intelligent and amazing detectives, but this is Tim’s thing, y’know?) I consider him the best because he was diligent and reasonably cooperative (at least cooperative enough that it didn't interrupt the mission), intelligent, compassionate, a good fighter, and quippy, all in perfectly Robin-sized proportions. He did a lot as Robin, achieved a lot, and that definitely adds to my conviction.

He's also got his own personal agenda half the time that he pushes secretly or blatantly, depending on if it'll cause problems that will stop him from achieving said agenda. He thinks out of the box to achieve his ends, and has a ruthless streak a mile wide. He's also such a loser yet makes fun of others, and that's hilarious to me.

For me, at least, he's just...relatable. He's flawed and bossy and sometimes paranoid and a Batman and Robin (then later, Nightwing) superfan and he's funny and tends to overthink a lot and he fails, sometimes. The narrative tends to be kind to him, and many characters admit he's likable or at least worth their time (I'm thinking of Lady Shiva here, basically training him because she basically thought he was batshit insane ("thought outside of the box" or whatever) and that appealed to her). He's what I call little-brother shaped, in that he's annoying in a way that you're accustomed to find endearing.

Tim has good relationships with a lot of fan favorites, batfamily members or not, and has a tendency to get in other people's business with the insistence he can help. People, whether with shock, humor, derision or resignation, tend to let him, leading to his genuinely ridiculous amount of teamups. He's friendly and fun(ny) to be around generally, even when he's moping. (See: Red Robin 2009). He was remarkably popular in school but too wrapped up in Robin to take up the many, many invitations to hang out he got daily. He's a nerd but hates school and dropped out. He's unable to stay in one place, maybe partly due to him moving apartments a lot as a child.

...I'm rambling. Anyway, here's posts that get into Tim's relationship with his parents. These next ones are about Jack Drake; one that I agree with probably due to my father being a lot like Jack Drake, one that's kinder to him than I'll ever be, but looks at it from both angles and I agree with the harsher take, and one that's got a lot of Bruce but a lot of Tim about Jack as well. TDLR; Tim's dad was shitty, but not shitty enough for anyone whose name isn't Dick Grayson to really...notice? Or do anything about? Which is relatable to me, at least. Jack dies when Tim’s 16, kicking off the worst year of his life.

Tim's also got average parents that tend to be on the side of bad, in Jack's sake. His parents weren't shown on-panel a lot, but from what we know, they ship him off to boarding school once they can. (Which, hey, no judgement, better than leaving him alone) He stops going to boarding school when he's uhh, 15-16. He's 13-14 when his mom dies and his dad is sent into a coma. He mourns her. Jack gets out of his coma eventually, dates then marries his much-younger physical therapist who's a better mother-figure to Tim than Jack is a good dad, is a shitty dad (he knows barely anything about his kid yet keeps exerting control over him, he lets Tim down time and time again, he's shown to have violent tendencies though it's worth noting he never hits Tim on-panel. Some of this can be attributed to him and Tim just being different, but Tim's his son. He should put in more effort than he does.), makes up for it a bit, then dies.

This sounds like Tim propaganda, and it is. He's forgiving and sarcastic and very quick to make nice with people that've hurt him in the past. He's also got a chronic case of Youngest Child Syndrome due to him being the youngest for so long, so he's there's that undertone of brattiness/entitlement when interacting with the older family members he's close to, that screams he's used to being put first and expects it, even. It's endearing though. He loves his friends and his family, makes sure to let them now, and makes sure they know when he feels unloved so they can fix it. He proudly parallels Dick and quietly parallels Bruce, and is the most Bruce-like off all the batkids. King of compartmentalization for the mission.

(Also, he's bi and I see him as heavily ADHD/autism coded (a bit of both in my opinion) he's also absolutely insane btw.)

He's just!!! I'm so fond of him, and I see why other are too. He seems over-hyped, but like...he's genuinely amazing. He didn't create the Robin mantle, but he gave it so much life and joy and he deserves the world.

I really don't get what's so appealing to writers and fans who make Bruce an abusive father. Why is it so fun? Why do people enjoy doing one of the biggest superhero of all times that dirty? How does that make any sense?

People always complain about how Batman is a power fantasy, but the fact that his actions aren't justifiable if applied real life doesn't mean that you have to fuck the character's fictional morals.

Every hero is a power fantasy, but they are enjoyable because they are good people (or people who try to be good). Bruce Wayne is a human being and he is capable of bad parenting and committing mistakes, but making him willingly hit his kids is just stupid.

Batman is and has always been about hope, about rising above your trauma, protecting who you love, using your pain to make the world a little better. Bruce doesn't go around "beating the mentally ill' just because, he does because they are dangerous people, criminals, terrorists who are constantly harming citizens with their actions.

With all that said; Bruce hitting his children/sidekicks/allies (or just purposefully harming them in any way shape or form) is incoherent with his character and all that he represents.

Batman brought Robin, especially Dick Grayson, in to help him. He didn't want a child soldier, he was comforting this kid and taking him to the police station when he asked to be trained so he could get the guy who killed his parents. He asked to become like Batman and Bruce, realizing that they were very similar, saw that he was also filled with anger and needed to be guided. That's why Dick became a better person than Bruce ever was, not because he was inherently good or something, but because even if their relationship was not perfect and troublesome at times they understood each other's pain like no one else would.

With all of Bruce and Dick's history saying that this father-son bond was filled with physical abuse just sounds wild to me. Same thing goes for Cass, Jason, Steph, Tim, Duke, Damian and any other child that Bruce parented or taken care of.

Jason and Dick are usually the victims of writers and fans who are full one Abusive-Bruce-Shit™️, and honestly, I don't think that's because they have remarkably difficult relationships, but because this fandom loves to make their favorite pretty "white" boys suffer.

No one cares if it makes sense for Bruce to be abusive towards his first sons, they just care that Dick and Jason are angsty. My prove of that? When do you ever see content of Bruce being abusive towards Cass? Damian? Steph? Duke? Never. Because those characters are either women or people of color largely ignored by both canon and fanon.

I'll admit that Damian and Tim do get angsty abusive dad content at times, because regardless of their actual relationship with Bruce Tim is a sad white boy and Damian is the largely white washed blood son, but they are still not the most common alternatives whenever family angst is the focus (despite the large fanon torture porn industry that Tim Drake goes through it is usually focused on other aspects of his life).

I don't really know how to end this, at this point I'm just ranting about annoying batfam fans, but, yeah, don't fuck over legacy characters by making them abusive dads bcuz u like saying ur fav has it worst👍

Little edit: In this post I talked abt Dick as a white guy, would like to apologize for that, I do know that he is romani but ended up forgetting to add that. Either way my point still stands as, just like Damian, his race is pretty much ignored by writers and parts of the fandom
