7 Secrets <pt. 11>
Tumblr media
GENRE: Soulmate!au BTS!
WARNINGS: whole lot of uwu that’s what
WORD COUNT: 4.8k
I just...no words. I’ve been wanting to get to this point for a hot minute now, so I’m glad we’ve made it. No, this isn’t quite the end. Although we’re getting there. *cue tears* Have a happy halloween this weekend! <3
By the time we make it back to the house it’s nearly evening, seeing as Jin decided to take a detour and get lost. Kyung-soon didn’t mind, she took the opportunity to re-listen to Seventeen’s new album. And then listen to it again.
We’re nearly there when we get a call from Taehyung. Jin puts it on the car speakerphone.
“Hyung! Where are you?”
“We’ve been lost, that’s where-” Jin cuts Kyung-soon off with glare.
“We were hiking and enjoying the island. We’ll be there in ten minutes. Are you guys getting ready to eat?”
As if on cue my stomach growls. Our last meal was this morning, and the granola bars have only held up for so long.
“Yeah, we’re finishing up with the food now. Guess what we’re doing tonight, though?”
A few voices can be heard in the background. It sounds like utter chaos at the house. The sound of it brings a smile to my face.
“What? What are we doing?”
“Production team just finished editing the final episode! We’re going to project it on the side of the house and watch it!”
I nearly choke, Kyung-soon turning around and staring at me in horror. Namjoon chuckles, patting me on the back while I recover.
“That was...fast.” I mumble. The production crew must have been working overtime in order to finish up the final episode so we could watch it on our trip.
Kyung-soon is in the middle of involuntarily cringing. “Oh no, this is going to be horrible. So cringey.”
I nod in agreement, Jin reaching over to grab Kyung-soon’s hand. The houses pop up in the distance - we’re almost there.
“Just pretend that it’s somebody else,” Jin tries to reassure his soulmate. “I promise, it’s really not bad. We were thoroughly entertained.” He grins at Namjoon through the rear-view mirror.
“Yeah, and besides, you guys have seen plenty of weird content from us. Consider this an even playing field.” Namjoon adds.
“Ok, I’ll see you - huh? Oh, Ichika says hi. Alright, see you in a second.” Taehyung cuts the call.
The side of the boys’ house has turned into a temporary movie screen. Taehyung is in the process of popping popcorn while Jungkook and Jimin are giving a detailed overview of three years worth of episodes.
I think they’ve forgotten that we were very much a part of those three years. After all, it is a documentary about us.
Aera sits beside Minsuh, the two of them grinning like cheshire cats at their soulmates. They look like they’re thinking the same thing that I am.
“Yah, so where did the last episode leave off?” Aera questions, raising her eyebrows at Jimin.
“What, you don’t remember what happened two weeks ago?” Himari asks, chuckling.
Aera shrugs her shoulders. “It’s been a busy week for all of us, I can hardly remember what happened two days ago.”
Namjoon emerges from the house, a couple of blankets in hand. His eyes scan the small crowd before landing on me where I stand beside Seohyun. I’ve been trying to get a feel for how her and Yoongi’s conversation went earlier, but I don’t dare ask anything too direct with Yoongi right there. He holds her hand, looking content as she explains how she tried and failed at painting.
“Where did the last episode leave off, Joon-ah?” Hoseok asks when Jimin and Jungkook have a hard time remembering the finer details. Namjoon is in the process of spreading a blanket out on the ground, motioning for me to come over.
“Umm…” He chews on the inside of his cheek for a moment before snapping his fingers. “Aera had just pitched her new designs, and everybody made dinner for her when she got home. Then they were just getting Beth’s room ready for her to come back.”
Aera blinks as though just remembering that she has an actual job. A job she’s really, really good at.
“I can’t believe you forgot about that!” Aera feigns offense and Jimin freezes in his spot, eyes wide. “That’s my whole career we’re talking about, Jimin!”
Jungkook gives his friend a pat on the shoulder before walking over to plop into the seat beside Minsuh.
“I-I remember it now…” Jimin pouts, looking at his soulmate with puppy eyes. Aera glares at him, never one to give in easily. In fact, Aera is the fiercest when it comes to these kinds of things.
If I remember correctly, I’ve heard the boys state on several occasions that Jimin is absolutely terrifying when he’s mad.
“Hey,” Namjoon grabs my attention from the show up front. “Wanna sit? I got us an extra blanket for if we get cold.”
“Perfect.” I settle down on the blanket, laughing as Jimin tries his best to escape Aera’s wrath. She’s currently moving his chair to the opposite end, as far away from her as possible.
Minsuh turns around to look at me, her eyebrows wiggling mischievously. “Are you ready for this cringefest?”
Namjoon chuckles, settling down beside me. The butterflies in my stomach kick things up into high gear just from sitting beside him. He checks the time on his phone, his new background pulling my attention away for a moment.
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” I sigh. Namjoon places a comforting hand on my knee, smiling at me when he realizes that I’m looking at his lock screen.
“It really is that bad usually. I swear.” I roll my eyes, knowing a lie when I hear one. “Hey,” he nudges me. “Let’s see your new phone background.”
I excitedly fish my phone out of my pocket, already chuckling at the thought of our candid photo. Showing it to Namjoon, Minsuh and Jungkook wander over to see what we’re laughing about.
“Oh my gosh, that’s so cute!” Minsuh gushes, laughing at me. “I’m guessing you learned today that Beth is terrified of heights?”
Namjoon nods, shooting me a pitiful look. “I sure did. I’m pretty sure she bruised one of my ribs in the process.”
Jungkook proceeds to ask Namjoon about the hike, sounding like he wants to venture out there tomorrow. Jin and Kyung-soon come back out with Tae and Ichika, all of them carrying a couple of bowls each filled to the brim with popcorn.
“Movie time!” Jimin shouts from where he and Aera disappeared around the house. A moment later he appears with his chair in one hand and lugging a disgruntled Aera along with the other.
As soon as all the popcorn is distributed Yoongi flips on the projector from the back. A moment later the song “Psycho” by RedVelvet blasts through the speakers, and the episode begins.
“Oh my gosh, I can’t believe they actually made that the theme song!” Seohyun shouts, already laughing as she and Minsuh appear on screen. Little title cards appear above their heads from where they study in the library, lost in their textbooks. I grin, all of this appearing a little surreal.
“I can’t believe we actually have a theme song!” Himari says. She’s the next one in the opening credits, trying and failing to flip a pancake. “Oh, come on, that’s how they introduce me?” Hoseok laughs beside her, his eyes darting from the screen back to his soulmate.
Next is Ichika, and I notice Taehyung scooting a little closer to her and she hides behind her hands. She’s opening the door to the apartment, her lopsided smile greeting the cameraman as she invites the cameras inside.
“This is the best part!” Jimin shouts.
The cameras follow Ichika inside the apartment and catch their next victim for the opening credits: Aera.
She’s clearly in a rush, probably running late for work. Careening down the stairs she freezes once she sees the camera, quickly pushing her hair out of her face as she waves before rushing out the door.
“See, told you it was the best part,” Jimin mumbles, Aera dissolving into a fit of giggles beside him.
Namjoon scoots closer, adjusting so that his right shoulder is just behind me. “Ready for the next part?” I can hear the smile in his voice.
Kyung-soon and I appear on screen, and I can hear my friend groaning from where she sits with Jin. We share a look across the way.
We’re sitting on the couch in the living room, locked in an intense game of rock, paper, scissors. Kyung-soon wins, and she throws her hands up in triumph right as our title cards appear. I get up wordlessly, walking straight out the door.
Despite how strange it is to be watching the documentary after all this time, I find myself shaking with laughter. Maybe we are kind of entertaining to watch, after all.
“Do you remember what we were playing for?” Kyung-soon asks me.
“I think it was over who had to call the takeout place.”
She laughs, returning her attention to the screen. I find myself avidly watching as well.
Episode basically from here until just before the end, enjoy! (actions/dialogue in real time will appear in as normal text, whereas the documentary is in italics)
Himari and Aera sit in the kitchen, both of them staring down at their breakfast. Himari glances up at Aera, noticing her worried expression.
“I’m sure they’ll call you soon. Anybody who turns you down is a complete idiot.”
Aera nods, not saying anything. Jimin reaches out to hold Aera’s hand. Minsuh comes in from down the hall, stretching.
“Morning,” she says around a yawn. “Any news A?”
Himari answers for her friend. “Not yet. What do you have going on today?”
Minsuh reaches for a bowl, waving at the kitchen camera like she does every morning. “Nothing much. I think Seohyun and I are going to study for a while, she’s going to help me prep for an exam I’ve got coming up. What about you guys?”
“Ichika and I have lessons. Want to join us, Aera? Brush up on your Japanese?”
“No,” Aera shakes her head. “I’m going to start getting Beth’s room ready.”
“Oh!” Himari grabs her phone from her back pocket. “That reminds me, I have to call that little punk.”
I gasp at Himari, my friend giving me a shy smile and shrugging.
Himari places the phone on speaker while the other two girls quietly eat their food and wait for me to answer.
“Was this the day before I flew out?” I ask no one in particular.
“Yeah, I think so.” Himari responds. Suddenly my voice cuts through the audio, and I physically cringe. Namjoon chuckles, reaching a hand up to steady me as I rock back against his chest.
“I knew you were going to call me,” I say, and Himari rolls her eyes while Minsuh snickers. “What’s up?”
“Are you all packed and ready to go?” Himari asks.
“Yeah, I think so. My flight leaves in...six hours. I’ll start heading to the airport in a couple of hours so I get there on time.”
“Hey, when’s the last time you logged anything?”
It’s silent on my side of the line for a while. “Er...a while.”
“Do I even want to know?”
“No, probably not.”
“Well this is me calling you and telling you to do your log before you leave. BigHit sent us some of those questions, answer them if you don’t know what to say.” My voice starts to cut in but Himari cuts me off. “I mean it! If you don’t I’m making sure you sleep on the couch when you get here.”
My sigh is audible, Aera looks up at Minsuh with the ghost of a smile.
“Ok, will do. I’ll log it as soon as I get off this call. How is everybody?”
Minsuh pipes up. “Hey Beth! We’re good!”
“Am I on speaker? Hey Min! Who else is there?”
“Just me,” Aera says, leaning closer to the phone. “I’m about to clean up your room so there aren’t any cobwebs. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you, B. I miss you.”
“Aw, I miss you too A. You don’t have to worry about my room...but make sure nobody has stolen my Jeju Island photo. Where’s everybody else?”
The camera jumps to another location, answering my very question. Kyung-soon is walking up to a nice looking apartment, double checking some files before kindly greeting a couple. She must have had a client.
Again the camera jumps, this time to a different continent where I’m settling down before my camera as I record my first log in months. I’m sitting at my kitchen island in my apartment back in the states, a picture of all the girls and I hanging on the wall behind me.
“Hello camera, it’s me again. Sorry for not logging in a while, I’ve been busy. And now I’m about to leave in a couple of hours to catch my flight to Seoul.” I look at my phone before me, reading something off of it. “This will be pretty quick, but I’ve got some of the questions BigHit sent me, so I’ll try to answer a few before I have to leave. Sound good?”
I scroll through the list of questions, eyebrows furrowed as I try to find a good one. “Hmm, it looks like these have gotten more and more personal over the years. I guess I’ll go with this one: ‘what do you look forward to the most returning to Seoul?’”
Shuffling in my seat I bite my lip as I stare down the camera. “I think I just get excited to be back with everybody. I know I don’t usually say anything like this, but I really miss them when I’m gone. I’m kind of stranded out here in the states. It’s hard to be here and know that all six of them get to stay together while I jump around from place to place. At least I’ll get to stay for a solid six months this time around, maybe more. Just depends.”
Namjoon fidgets behind me until he’s directly behind me. Slowly he pulls me back against his chest until I’m laying with my head tucked under his chin.
“Wow, this one’s intense. Should I just answer it? I doubt anybody will actually ever watch this. I feel like my logs are pretty boring. It says, ‘if you could go back and say anything to yourself three years ago, what would you say?’”
I lean back against my chair, pushing my hair out of the way. “I’m not sure I would really say much. There was just so much going on, it was information overload. I remember when I woke up the next morning, I thought everything was a dream. My sister had no clue, so I just left her a note and left our hotel to go on a run.” I laugh a little, recalling the memory. “I probably looked so crazy! This white girl running around Seoul like a maniac. I finally got to a point where I stopped, and finally was starting to calm down. Then, ha! Oh my gosh I remember this like it was yesterday, seriously. I checked my phone and saw that I had a notification from Weverse. It said ‘RM commented on so and so’s post’ and I lost it. Right there in the middle of this random park I started bawling. I was so overwhelmed.”
Namjoon’s grip tightens on me, and I take a deep breath. I’d honestly forgotten that I’d even done this log, I really didn’t think they’d put it into the documentary.
“So if I could go back to three years ago, I think I’d go to that moment and just give myself a hug. I was so terrified and had nobody to talk to. I’d hug myself, and say, you figure out how to keep moving forward. Just enjoy the ride, because it’s a crazy one.”
The screen fades out, my voice still narrating as I talk over the others girls’ actions. Kyung-soon is helping that couple to sign some paperwork.
“It’s definitely been crazy, but I’m better because of it.” I narrate and Kyung-soon gives an award winning smile to the couple, saying her goodbyes before heading back to her car.
Now we’re watching Minsuh laugh about something with Himari in the kitchen.
“I don’t want to think about where I’d be without my soul sisters, they mean so much to me. I really never thought I’d meet people as amazing as them in my life.”
Aera is in my room, sweeping and straightening my photo of Jeju Island.
“Sometimes I still wonder if there’s been a huge mistake and I’ll get a call from BigHit saying that I don’t actually have a soulmate. Things are so good that I think they may be too good.”
Seohyun jogs in a park, making faces at the camera each time she passes in front of it.
“But I’ll just keep living this dream for as long as fate will let me.”
Ichika struggles up the stairs to the apartment, grocery bags all over the place. The camera shakes as it’s set on the ground, and the cameraman assisting her.
“And as for the last question for this log… ‘if you could say a single sentence to your soulmate, what would you say?’”
Suddenly we’re back in my apartment, where I give a side smile to the camera.
“Hey Namjoon, wanna go out sometime?” Winking at the camera I lean up and turn it off.
The screen goes black, and then words cut across the screen.
Final Installment- Episode 132 “Finally.”
Everybody comes back to life as the introduction to the final episode ends and the rest of the episode starts up. Namjoon leans down to whisper in my ear.
“I’m sorry for making you cry in the park that morning.”
I shake my head. “I can’t believe you’re apologizing for that and not for trying to kill me earlier.”
My body shakes with Namjoon’s laugh, and we settle down to continue watching the documentary before us.
Kyung-soon stands in the living room with a huge mass of balloons before her. Minsuh comes up behind her, staring in awe.
“That’s a lot of balloons.”
Kyung-soon nods, biting her bottom lip. “Do you think it’s too much?”
“No, I think it looks great. Just, how are we going to get them into the car?”
“I have no idea.”
The two of them discuss possible game plans as Himari wanders in looking at her phone.
“Ok everyone! She’s over the ocean between us and Japan. We should probably get going. Wow,” she finally notices the balloons. “Looks good, Soon-ah. Don’t fly away, though. Seokjin would be so upset.”
Footsteps sound as the other three girls come in, each one’s attention going straight to the balloons.
“Ha! That’s amazing.” Ichika says. “She’s going to die when she sees that.”
The scene cuts to the airport, the girls anxiously waiting at the bottom of the stairs. Himari once again checks her phone for my flight information.
“It says that the flight landed fifteen minutes ago, she should be here any second.”
Aera nudges her. “Yah, you’re acting like your long lost lover has finally returned.”
Himari raises her eyebrows. “And?”
“Oh, there she is!” Seohyun shouts, and sure enough I appear on camera. Hat down low and a mask on I wave at everyone. A few people pause to look at all the commotion before continuing on.
Namjoon whispers to me again. “You look like a celebrity with your hat and mask.”
I chuckle, watching my reunion with the girls that only happened earlier this week. “I felt like one, too.”
My soulmate lets out a breathy laugh when the girls start teasing me, asking me what my reaction would be if he were the one to pick me up from the airport.
“You know, I’ve noticed that you’re really good at avoiding teasing.”
“I’ve had lots of practice.”
The documentary skips to our apartment, the girls hanging out in the living room debating whether or not to wake me up or let me sleep.
“I’m going to wake her up, she’s probably starving.” Aera says, and Minsuh follows her out of the room. The other girls remain in the room, Seohyun talking about one of her classes.
I nearly fall asleep in Namjoon’s arms, it’s so comfy. What brings me out of my stupor is the distinct sound of Seohyun’s rendition of “Mic Drop” and everybody laughing along with her.
I watch as we enjoy the show, Kyung-soon announcing to everyone that we’re going on ahead. Suddenly I jolt up, Namjoon jumping at the sudden movement. I remember what comes after this.
“What’s wrong?” Namjoon asks. “Did you see a bug?”
“No…” My attention is pulled into the documentary as Kyung-soon and I quietly converse. “It’s just - that was a hard night for me. That’s all.”
I can feel Namjoon’s eyes assessing me but I refuse to look at him for fear of him seeing right through me.
“If you’re uncomfortable we can go inside,” he offers.
Finally I look over to him. He calmly returns my gaze, awaiting my answer.
“I think I’m fine for now. Just, don’t judge me, ok?”
Namjoon nods fervently. “Never.” Extending his arms out, he pulls me back into his chest. “Let me know if you want to leave, and we’ll go.”
Kyung-soon and I appear on the balcony of our apartment, where we both study the stars above us.
“I can’t-”
“You have to. Beth, please don’t lock us out and keep all of these feelings to yourself. You don’t have to tell us every little thing, but you need to talk about it. Just because you don’t say it out loud doesn’t mean that you won’t feel scared or worried anymore.”
The tension is palpable as my sobs cut through the silence. I’m pretty sure Namjoon stopped breathing.
“I look at our boys, and I feel like they’re already complete. They have each other, they have ARMY, they’re complete. They have no idea that soulmates are even a thing, let alone that they have soulmates. There’s a part of me that’s mad about that. Mad that for the last three years I’ve been waiting for a man that is already happy without me, that is already more loved that he can even fathom. Mad at freaking Mr. Bang, because he refuses to tell them until the ‘time is right’. It’s been three years! And I’ve picked myself back up and tried my hardest to continue on in my career, and it’s fulfilling. I have the most amazing friends in the world, my family is so loving and supportive, and I love my job. So why do I feel so lonely?”
Namjoon wraps his arms around me tightly, and I feel that strange ache in my chest again. This time, though, it aches and aches until it cracks. With it, come the tears.
Like a dam come undone the tears flow from my eyes as the echoes of my sobs from the documentary cut through the night. Namjoon holds me tighter, tighter until he’s all I can feel.
“You know what, come here.” Namjoon says, his voice thick. He stands, pulling me up with him. We’re near the back, so nobody really notices us as Namjoon pulls me away. He leads me around my beach house until we’re completely blocked from view. The audio from the documentary follows me, and I keep my eyes trained on the ground as the tears blur my vision.
Namjoon finally comes to a stop, his hands resting firmly on my shoulders. I can’t bring myself to look up at him, thoroughly humiliated at one of my most vulnerable moments being on full display.
“Beth, look at me.” I shake my head, angrily wiping away my tears. He reaches up to catch a tear as it rolls down my cheek. “Look at me. Please.”
Again I shake my head, completely mortified at the situation I’m in. Wasn’t this supposed to be a fun trip? Worry-free?
“Ok, that’s ok. You don’t have to.” Namjoon moves to grab my shoulders again. “I just need you to listen to me. Can you do that for me?”
I clench my teeth as I nod, trying so hard to keep in my sobs.
“Alright. I am so-” his voice cracks and he takes a moment before speaking again. “I am so sorry, Beth. For all of it. For making you feel that way. I wish - I just wish we could have avoided all that heartache and pain. You were so strong, for so long. You still are, I can see that. From the second we first met I saw that you are strong and the most incredible person to ever walk the earth. I might be a bit biased,” I croak out a laugh which seems to spur him on, “but nobody can change my mind about you. I was lonely, too. Did you know that? Even with all the love I receive every day, I’m still lonely. Do you know how infuriating that is?”
Steeling my nerves I peak up at him. My heart twists further when I see the tears running down my soulmate’s face. He continues on, paying them no mind.
“I felt like there was something so wrong with me, but I learned with time that it’s normal. Everybody feels lonely. It’s a horrible feeling, and confusing sometimes. Especially when it feels like you have every reason to be happy. But we’re human. This is part of our human experience, as much as it sucks. Beth,” Namjoon rests a hand under my chin when my eyes fall again, gently urging me to look up at him. “I don’t feel alone anymore. That’s because of you. Just seeing you, I feel like everything is going to be alright. Do you see how amazing that is? I’m not lonely anymore. Please, Beth.” He releases a shaky breath, the earnestness in his eyes bringing a fresh wave of tears to my eyes. “Let me try. I don’t want you to feel alone anymore. Let me in,” Namjoon gestures to his heart, “and I swear I’ll never leave.”
Staring up at him, I know he’s telling the truth. I can tell he means every word he’s saying. But I have to know. I have to ask.
“You’ve been promising a lot of things,” I mutter, inhaling sharply as the tears rush down my face. “Are you sure you can keep all your promises? Please, Namjoon. Please don’t promise me something you can’t keep.”
Gently brushing the tears from my face, Namjoon leans in. Slowly, and close enough that I can see the light reflected in the tears still on his face. My heart, limp and weak as it may be, jumps at the close proximity.
“Do you mind if I make another promise?” Namjoon whispers before his lips brush up against my cheek. I freeze as he licks the salty mixture from his lips before moving to the other side.
“N-no,” I mumble.
Just there, the only warning I have is the feeling of his warm breath before he sweetly kisses away the remaining tears on my other cheek.
He pulls away just enough to look into my eyes. “I promise that I will never make you a promise that I cannot keep.”
Eyes drifting down to my mouth he tilts my head up ever so slightly. My eyes drift shut of their own accord, the only thing keeping me tied to the earth being Namjoon’s hands that hold me like I may break at any moment.
The first brush of his lips takes my breath away, the feeling so light that I wonder for a brief moment if this isn’t all just in my head.
Slowly he deepens the kiss, just enough for the salty tang of my tears on his lips to seep into my senses. The bittersweet taste has me reaching out to him, hands fisting the material over his chest. I cling to my soulmate as he clings to me, and even the world slows for a moment in order to accommodate this moment. Fate has never been my friend, but in this sliver of time I feel that it has been uncommonly kind to me.
By the time we pull away, resting our foreheads together, the ache in my heart has subsided. Namjoon’s hands slide down to my waist, holding me in place. As if I’d go anywhere.
I look up at my soulmate only to find his eyes still shut, drinking in the moment. Taking the precious seconds fate has given me, I study him out. Bliss suits him.
As though feeling my gaze, his eyes slide open. A small smile crosses his features, and the word that I have come to associate with Kim Namjoon over the past couple of days reappears in my mind’s eye, hanging over us like the stars in the sky.
Perfect.

(after)life of the party
happy @blaseballwipamnesty weekend! here’s a wip from my drafts that i may or may not finish one day, featuring the miami dale (heavily irm’ed edition.) tw for character death (main character is a ghost!)
it’s an accident, in the end.
most things are. randy dennis dies as they lived; mostly unnoticed, at the back of the theatre, in uniform and checking the projectors. a heart attack, the news will say, in the two minute segment dedicated to this “freak accident.” they were healthy. they were supposed to live for longer.
coral springs mall 6 theatre closes for a day. it opens, again, when the corpse is gone and the crime scene clean. randy notices nothing from where they’re still sweeping, at the back of the theatre, right next to the projectors.
-
randy knows ghosts.
their mom taught them how to be polite like that - how to say please and thank you and what to say to the eyes in the corner of their room, the ones completely in shadow that when lit up revealed unravelling flesh and quiet anguish. she taught them how to say hi to the ones that weren’t like that, too, the ones that got used to it or the ones who never realized. theodore passon was one of the former; checked the projectors on night shifts while randy was standing in the doorway, with his pinstripe suit and hat, and the startled smile he’d offer when they spoke to him.
“i’m not noticed much nowadays,” he told them one time, in quiet, whispery tones, “but i keep doing my job, anyway.”
“why?”
theodore blinks, slow. “because that was my job.” he sounds unsure. sometimes randy wonders if they were the one to scare him off like that. because of that.
randy knows ghosts like they know people. they’ve never really been that good with people.
-
somewhere between one day and the next, randy hears the pleas from the walls, the colorful carpet asking not to be torn up, the concrete asking not to be torn down, the projectors asking to just show one more movie, one more movie isn’t too much, just one more, please?
they head to the manager’s office, lean against the doorway as an employee passes right through them and begins to speak. “the theatre is closing?”
“you know it’s been on the down and out-” and the next word the manager says is fuzzy, incomprehensible, and randy tries not to focus on it, “-so don’t act so surprised. you’ll find a job at another place that isn’t in some abandoned mall.”
randy feels their connection to the projectors upstairs slowly unwind. this is no longer their job, and they are no longer bound to keep doing it.
by the time coral springs 6 closes, they’re gone. drifting off to elsewhere. the film snags at their clothes and unravels in their hair, images of their own memories flashing on the squares. they will never quite leave the theatre behind. it will never quite leave them behind.
randy would be less awkward about it if it wasn’t exposing their childhood memories to every ghost within two feet, but, well. that’s just how their unlife has to be now, they suppose.
-
the i-4 deadzone is delightful.
maybe delightful isn’t a good word for “strip of highway that kills a lot of people,” but randy finds themself drawn to it anyway, and they find themself enjoying the haunting, taking a more active role then they ever did at the theatre.
they spot a car, a peculiar little vehicle, and lean towards it, hopping in.
the - not human, the transparency/flickering/buzz can’t be a human, but the person in the front seat barely startles as randy settles in. “hi,” it says, absently.
“hi?”
“i’m raúl leal.”
“i’m… randy?”
“nice to meet you. do you need something?”
“a ride would be nice,” randy says slowly, cautious. raúl slows to a stop and turns to look at them, finally, its hands moving up to push mint-green hair away from its eyes. “most people aren’t this…”
“unphased? i get that a lot.” raúl grins, still neutral behind the eyes besides the slightest hint of interest. “i’m not most people. or a person. so. do you want to keep driving?”

Summary: When Tony organizes a team-building exercise at a Salsa studio, Steve doesn’t know what to expect. Shenanigans ensue.
Latin!Reader X Steve Rogers
Tumblr media
It had been an established tradition that once a month, everyone who was free that called themselves an Avenger had to participate in what Tony had dubbed “team-building activities.” Steve thought these were fun, like the time they played laser tag or when they went to that pottery place and the team made mugs. These team activities were always the time where they could relax and do something fun, ignore the weight on their shoulders. A time to spend time together without bad guys around every corner. So when Tony walked into the boardroom, he wasn’t too worried.
The meeting starts off like any other, updates on other regions, a call to the Guardians, the usual. Near the end of the meeting, Tony stands confidently in front of the projector after a pause. “Set the mood FRIDAY,” he says, his face conniving and too cheerful. Very loudly, FRIDAY plays a Spanish song, one he’s definitely heard but doesn’t know the words to.
Suavemente, bésame!
Te quiero sentir tus labios,
Besándome otra vez.
Steve’s eyes widen a bit, his mind running through the different activities. Glancing around him, Steve looks at the team’s various reactions. Bucky seems a bit taken aback but not surprised, Nat looks like she knows where this is headed, and Sam is already dancing in his chair. Vaguely shimmying to the beat of the song, a mischievous smile pulls on Tony’s lips as he raises his voice over the music. “We’re going to a Salsa class. Spiderboy, Wanda, Pepper, and Vision are going too. You can thank Sam for the idea. Be ready by 1:30, I booked an hour and a half” Before anyone can say anything, Tony shimmies his way out of the room, the music fading with him. Sam looks around the table excitedly, hopeful his friends like his idea. His eyes practically glow with happiness. “Make sure to wear workout clothes, y’all. Y/Ns gonna make you work,” Sam says, his voice almost mischievous. Steve lets out a defeated sigh, accepting his fate of stepping on many toes and struggling to keep up. Thinking back, Steve was never the dancer, and even less now with the change of music over the decades he’d been in the ice. But he’d be damned if he didn’t try, especially if Sam was gonna be watching, poking fun at him the whole way through. Bucky gives a nod, a small smile on his lips. “So this is where you spend your days off,” Bucky says like he should’ve seen this coming. Sam gives him a smirk as he gets up and grabs his jacket. “How do you think I got these thighs,” Sam replies, gesturing towards said thighs, barely contained by his jeans. Steve lets out a chuckle, chancing a look at Natasha. Grabbing her laptop, her smile is warm but challenging. “I’m gonna dance you into the floor Wilson,” she says, confident in her dance experience. Sam lets out a laugh, his tone just as confident and challenging, “Are you stupid or stupid? I’d like to see you try.” With that, they leave the boardroom together, the faint sound of Spanish music filling the Tower until they all pile into a car and drive to the dance studio.
---------------------------------------
Getting out of the car, Steve can still hear Bucky and Sam bickering, though the parking lot seems deserted save for a few cars. Steve doesn’t know what to expect. Especially since he’s never been a dancer, and knows less about Latin culture, something he only got educated on when he was in the 21st century. As someone who was always in control, this was very new. But nonetheless, he walked into the studio behind Sam, Bucky, and Tony with Pepper on his arm, with Peter, Nat, Wanda, and Vision trailing behind. The first thing that catches his eyes is the glass case full to the brim with different trophies and medals. The studio’s walls were floor to ceiling mirrors and a front desk area near the entrance, with a door that led to what Steve assumed was a locker room. “Y/N, your favorite Avenger is here!” Sam called into the empty studio. The locker room door opens, and Steve couldn’t stop his blush from spreading if he tried. The woman, who he guesses is Y/N, walks out confidently, her arms outstretched to hug Sam. She is stunning, to say the least, her brown skin glowing under the studio’s lights. Her hair is in a slicked-back puff, donned in a simple muscle tank and leggings. And she’s wearing red lipstick. “It’s always the lipstick,” Steve can hear Bucky teasing in his head. “Just because you’re my student doesn’t mean you’re my favorite Sam,” she replies, her voice teasing but fond. Steve feels Bucky nudge him with his arm, breaking him out of his obvious ogling. Releasing from the hug, Y/N turns to the rest of the group. “I’m Y/N, incase Sam didn’t give it away, and I’ll be your instructor today.” Steve feels his heart skip a couple of beats at the prospect of getting to stare at you for the next hour, though his pathetic dance skills will probably kill any chance he has with you. Steeping on someone’s toes wasn’t the best way to make a first impression. In a fight, Steve was light on his feet and agile, but fighting was very different from dancing. Plus his experience with women isn’t exactly the best and he would probably break one of your toes before getting your number- He suddenly felt all eyes on him and a long silence. Blinking, Steve notices you looking at him, your hand outstretched. If Steve wasn’t blushing before, he definitely was now as he stuttered. “I- I’m sorry what did you say?”
Looking at him consideringly, you awkwardly retract your hand. “I was asking if you wanted to be my partner for this class.” Steve can hear Natasha and Bucky holding back their laughter behind him, and Sam just looks as smug as ever. “Oh, I don’t think I’d be a very good partner. I’m probably the worst dancer here.” Steve replies, laughing nervously and rubbing his neck with his hand. Your face lights up in understanding before walking closer to him. You grab his hand and usher him closer to the front of the studio near a laptop and speaker set up. “Which is exactly why you should be paired with me, Captain Rogers. You’ll learn better if you’re with me. Plus, I’m used to students stepping on my toes.” Your voice is resolute as you hold him by the hand, grouping up the other team members as you fiddle with the music. Steve can’t help but feel like this is set up as he looks between your hand grasping his and his teammates, all looking various stages of smug or suggestive except Peter, who just looks happy to be there, and Vision, who is just staring at Wanda. Grouped in partners, Natasha is with Peter, who actually has experience with salsa he found out, Sam is with Bucky, both noticeably not looking at each other, Tony with Pepper and Vision with Wanda.
Looking at the other groups, you start to explain the starting position and the basics of salsa without the music. “Normally, the taller of the pair will lead with their right and the shorter will lead with their left.” You seem to think for a moment before you continue your explanation. “While salsa is meant to be danced in pairs, the lead is the one who guides the dance.” Gently grabbing Steve, you place your left hand on his shoulder and hold his hand with your right. Before Steve can form a thought, you start to slightly move him by the shoulder, using your weight to push him. “When you lead it is very important to use your body weight. Even a dancer with no experience can dance well if they have a good lead.” Most of the group is either trying to hold back their imminent laughter or they’re too busy trying to ask questions so you continue to use Steve as a test subject. You either don’t notice or ignore them as you run over to the speaker, start the music, and go back to Steve. “Can I do a quick demonstration?” you ask him, and it was really unfair because there was no way Steve could say no.  Steve nods slightly, and before he can blink you shoot off like a rocket. You push him into a spin to the right, a turn to the left, another spin, and Steve can only see vague flashes of movement as you move around him fluidly. You almost leave him dizzy, until you finish, letting him fall gently into a dip. Steve opens his eyes, not realizing he closed them, and is greeted by your face inches away from his. His face erupts in a blush as you stare at each other, your breath only slightly labored. He can vaguely hear applause and Sam complaining about not getting to dance with you before you let him stand upright. You let out a small laugh before looking back at Steve. “I hope that wasn’t too bad Captian,” you say, your hands fidgeting with your muscle tank. Steve can only open and close his mouth repeatedly before just replying, “Wow.” The team and you laugh a bit and his blush continues to spread down his neck. “Well, we won’t be doing too many spins today, but I hope that was fun for you.” Steve laughs lightly, his hand coming behind his neck. “Well I- it was a lot of fun. Felt like a rollercoaster.” Your smile widens as your laugh rings through the studio, and Steve tries not to think how nice it sounds before you turn to the rest of the team.
You seem to get back into a professional element, letting go of Steve’s hand to help out the other pairs, especially Buck and Sam as they bicker over who should lead. Coming back to the front of the studio you grab Steve’s hands and get into the starting position. Reaching behind you, the music streams from the speakers. Leaning into Steve, you talk to him over the music. “I’ll lead for now Captain Rogers,” you say, your voice almost teasing. Steve can only nod jarringly, before replying shortly, “Steve is fine.” You nod in acknowledgment before addressing the rest of the pairs. “We’re going to start by doing the basic salsa step, just forward and back,” you say as you demonstrate. Steve stands trying to follow your instruction, his hand clammy against yours. Everyone nods before you start counting the beats and doing the basic step.
The rest of the class goes on without incident, and Steve is proud to say he only stepped on your toes twice. The team seemed happy as well, the couples very comfortable with dancing and lots of laughter coming from Pepper on Tony’s behalf. The rivalry between Nat and Sam got squashed very quickly because Sam was too busy bickering with Bucky, and Nat was trying to make sure her and Peter’s hands wouldn’t stick together. Wanda and Vision seemed the most peaceful, though it seemed they were staring at each other more than actually paying attention. Bucky and Nat kept sneaking teasing glances at him, especially if you used him as another demonstration, your hands landing on his waist or vice versa. By the end of the class, the team was tired but pleased. Everyone was joking around and laughing, so much so that Steve could almost ignore the blush that had coated his cheeks for the past hour and a half. Saying their goodbyes, Steve went to give you a handshake, but you held his hand for a moment. Your eyes lock for a moment before you look back at your intertwined hands and take a deep breath. “I don’t want to be too forward, since we just met and all, but I was wondering if you’d want to go out sometime? Not dancing but maybe dinner-?”
“Yes,” Steve interrupts. You both let out surprised laughs, Steve’s free hand going to rub his neck, a nervous tick you’ve noticed. Both of you are thoroughly flustered and whipped for each other already, Steve found it hard to imagine how he could’ve said no. You let go of his hand, happily running towards the front desk to grab a pen and piece of paper to jot down your number. As you write down your number, you hear a thump against the window of the door of the studio. There stand, very squished together, Sam, Bucky, and Natasha, looking very pleased. Out of your peripheral, you can see Steve trying to shoo them away. “I’m sorry about them,” he says, his voice only half upset. You smile at him and gesture back at the trio. “I’ll have to get used to that if I want to keep you, right?” Steve laughs, his smile lighting up the studio. “Yeah, but I’ll get them to leave us alone somehow.” You nod in affirmation, the trio finally trickling away from the door as they notice their position has been compromised. Handing the paper to Steve, you lead him out of the door, the afternoon light making your skin glow.
“I’ll talk to you soon Captain,” you say, leaning in to give Steve a kiss on the cheek before closing the studio door. Steve might’ve convinced himself the kiss happened, except for the red lipstick stain on his cheek and the hollering of his friends a few feet away from him. As Steve walked away, his friends trailing behind, he knew he had a great feeling about you, and he couldn’t wait to find out more.

‘Systems Online,’ a pop-up signal had indicated on the tablet you held with flashing red and white lettered lights. But the adrenaline in your veins would not subside. Taking in a breath of rushed air, you walked towards the monitors on jittery feet with the notion of checking on Nash. Looking back up at him, his eyes were shut, and his lithe body was reclined in the chair with machinery hooked up to him. You dread ball up in the pit of your stomach as silence hung in the air.
“Did it work?” Ralph questioned, glancing to everyone then back to you; confusion written on his face.
“Is there something that should have happened?” Barry followed up beside Ralph.
“Well if there was a big bang sound, followed by multiple spontaneous sparks flying everywhere and the room’s electricity short-circuiting along with small fires combusting from the machinery then we’d be in trouble.” You watched Nash’s neurological and physiological vitals rise and fall within homeostatic values on the monitors. Normal. Stable. “I- According to my theoretical calculations- yes, I’m getting science-y right now-,” you exhaled while you gestured with your hands as you spoke, “each psyche that had manifested itself into Nash’s being should have effectively split from his psyche and returned to their respective bodies in each dimension harboring a Harrison Wells doppelganger. Harry and the others hypothesized that their bodies must be unconscious, but alive in order for their psyches to remain intact within Nash’s mind.” The others looked unsure. You rubbed your exhausted eyes. “It’s just like how when you and Iris used the Mindscape Machine to enter into Nora’s mindscape when she went into Grace’s mind. Sherloque said you both would enter with your psyche’s and they had to be intact in Nora’s head in order to ensure you’d be able to return to your bodies unharmed. If the psyche is harmed and killed in any way, then the body essentially dies,” You took a step towards them away from the monitors with the tablet held close to you. “The reverse should be correct as well. If the psyche is absent from the body, the body must be preserved at stable levels in order for the psyche to return and realign itself in its proper body. That’s what we’re relying on. Hopefully they all made it back to their respective bodies.”
“In this case, it’s the multidimension of Wells,” Chester interjected, lowering his voice to a whisper. “So freaking cool.” Allegra rolled her eyes as she continued to cross her arms.
“Nash would have felt the absence of a Wells in his psyche if another doppelganger’s psyche had deteriorated due to its unconscious body not surviving. Wolfgang would be able to pinpoint who it is because he has a neurological roster of the Council of Wells that he had implemented into his own mind, therefore his own psyche.”
Iris spoke up after you finished, running a hand over her forearm as she resisted the urge to itch the patch of skin. Side effects from remaining in the Mirrorverse for too long. “So, they get back to their bodies. Then what? How are they going to get here?”
“Each Wells should be able to use their intelligence as well as tapping into their own resources on their Earth and use the dimensional coordinates they have to get relay their dimensional coordinates and the states of their Earth’s back to Earth-Prime,” You answered in a heartbeat with a snap of a finger. “Sherloque, Harry, and Wolfgang should be coming as soon as they wake up. They work fast and everything.”
“Ugh,” Cisco groaned in irritation, throwing his head back, “not Herr ‘off-you-go’ Wells.” The rest of us giggled at impending misery. “I swear if he makes one snide remark.”
“Wait, how do you know if we’ve got all the Wells and their dimensions? Is there some sort of algorithm the satellites are tracking?” Kamila added from beside Cisco. You watched his eyes melt a bit at the fact that she takes interest in understanding his areas of expertise like how he does to her photography and artistic nature.
You gave Cisco the honors of explaining that one. He turned to his lovely girlfriend. “My babies up in the heavens, god bless my mechanical genius, are calibrated with the finest technology to identify any molecular or subatomic shifts produced by any wave of dark matter or antimatter.” Kamila grinned at him as he continued. “But we won’t know for certain until Grumpy Cat, Tea Leaves, and Herr Prim-Posh Pants summon themselves through to correctly calibrate the DCP (Dimensional Communications Projector) to the actual dimensional values. You know, the Wells touch and all. God, but I swear if they break anything-”
“-They’re not,” you giggled as you cut off your annoyed friend, “I already told Harry that this area would be a ‘No Throw’ zone. The guys know better than to throw things that aren’t theirs too.”
“What about Nash?” Cecile pointed at the unconscious man.
Right, this part. “I will stay here to monitor any changes to his vitals until he wakes up. I already have a universal blood sample from our very own speedster in case Nash’s body were to start entering a state of flux. Barry’s cells should be able to repair any damage in Nash’s body if that were to happen. Just like he did to Ralph.”
“But Ralph’s body is pure elastic. It can bend and readjust itself to anything. Nash’s human.” You make a very excellent point, Cecile.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already run tests on myself and Cisco in order to ensure that the small blood transfusion would work on non-metas.” You fist-bumped your bro, who nodded approvingly. “Tiny increments should be able to do the trick.” Cecile nodded at you, giving you a motherly proud look before it contorted into a pointed one. You knew what she was going to say, but before she had a chance to say it the meta alarm went off.
“I guess that’s our cue to leave things to you,” Barry smiled at you, before nodding everyone to the direction of the door.
“Don’t die out there,” you teasingly yelled at their retreating figure.
“We’ll try not to.”
“And Barry, you need to do a prognosis physiological and biochemical report on your body from using the artificial Speed-force. Can’t have you losing your speed halfway through the day.”
“Yes, mother, I’ll be home before dinner to do homework,” Barry snickered, as he waved you off as he left with the others.
You rolled your eyes playfully at your antics with him and the others. Taking a seat in front of the monitors, you gave Nash another look. No matter how many times I can joke around with the others, I still feel the weight of their lives on my shoulder. You chewed on the inside of your cheek as your eyes flickered onto the screens. You need to wake up soon Nash. Running a hand through your hair as you set your head against your arm which leaned on the metal table. I need to know I didn’t kill you.
***
An hour had passed, and you felt your head was down to its last brain cell. You blinked slowly as you laid it against the cool metal. Nash was still unconscious, and you were starting to get worried. His vitals were still substantially at equilibrium. You shut your eyes for a moment. Allegra strode in with an annoyed look on her face as her eyes landed on Nash then to you.
“I don’t get why you care about him,” her rushed voice caused you to lift your head up. She continued while you quirked an eyebrow at her. “Why you’re wasting time watching over him. I mean after everything he’s done to me and the rest of us. Hell, he took your boyfriend away from you for some shit myth-busting. How is it that you still try to make yourself available to help someone like him?” It pisses me off and so does his existence!
“Allegra, Nash’s a human being too.”
“Ugh, whatever.” The young adult padded over to where some tech lied in attempts to obtain the thing that Cisco had described he needed.
“Ok, no. I can’t do this today.”
“Excuse me?” she narrowed her eyes at your change in tone. What’s got her panties all in a sudden twist?
“I’m am so tired of your bullshit attitude towards him,” You threw out, standing up from your chair with flared nostrils. “Your incessant whining when we don’t tell you every little detail about us, and how you treated the rest of us like dirt as if we haven’t been trying to stay by your side.”
“I haven’t-”
“Do you honestly not remember the way you treated Joe and Cecile? With rudeness and hostility and utter venom? When they had tried to get you to trust them to keep you safe from your cousin? How you were so pissy at Iris for not telling you about Team Flash? How you sneered and lashed out at Frost for trying to help you with your boy problems? We’re just going to sweep all that under the rug and call it a day?” You rhetorically asked with utter frustration. “And Nash, what is your problem with him? That he didn’t tell you that his adopted daughter who died right in front of him is your doppelganger? That’s your reason to emotional and mentally abuse him?! Boohoo, he didn’t tell me the truth. I’m a journalist I have to know the truth.”
“I don’t know wh-”
How can one person be so selfish? “Yes, you do. I’m a family practitioner, I know the signs of abuse even if it isn’t physical. 1) The silent treatment you give him whenever he tried to approach you to see if you were alright or if you needed help. 2) Not taking any responsibility for your toxic behavior towards him. 3) Pushing him to the point where he questions himself and his sanity because of how much you openly despise him. 4) Leading him to believe almost everything that goes wrong around you is his fault when it’s not. That’s gaslighting. 5) Using shame and his guilt to make him feel worse about himself regarding problems he already deeply regrets and works every day to make up for it. 6) Appearing indifferent when he’s clearly hurt/sad/upset. That’s called lack of empathy. And 7) ignoring him when he’s trying to express his feelings or trying to explain himself to you, but obviously because of all of the above you never gave him the fucking chance.” I get that her upbringing was rough but isn’t it hypocritical of you to pry at everyone’s hidden secrets when you have some of your own. We barely know anything about you other than the CCPD records and your meta abilities.
You had taken a few steps closer to her, seething and seeing red. Allegra struggled to retaliate, “I didn’t know-“
“No, you clearly didn’t because every time he tried to talk to you, you always shot him down harshly. Nash tried to give you time and space, always hoping that you would be ready and one day just listen to him. Do you not know how hard it is to wake up every morning to see the doppelganger of your dead child? Do you not understand how hard it is for him to relive the memory of her death over and over again? How much grief he’s carried in his heart and all of a sudden, by a stroke of chance his daughter’s doppelganger is part of Team Flash on this Earth?”
“…”
“You call yourself a journalist, but only when you don’t get what you want. You used that card so many times against Iris, especially when you snooped on her computer and found out about the crisis.” You took in a breath from your heated speech to calm down. Your headed started to pound even more Never in your life have you gotten this ballistic. You counted to 10 and regained control of your breathing and your tongue. Allegra was downright speechless, stunned in her spot at your ebullient words. “I’m not sorry for everything that I’ve said. You needed to hear it to wake up from that closed off and childish world you live in. Because whether you like it or not, he’s family too. And he’s here to stay, just like you. That’s the truth. You have trust issues, even when you’re with us. All of us. You doubt yourself and hesitate. That’s another truth. And you just use him as a punching bag to let out your frustration and pent-up annoyance on someone who only wants to protect you. Penance for not being able to protect his own daughter.”
“I didn’t ask for him to protect me. I’m not helpless.”
“We don’t ask for a lot of things in life to happen, but they do so anyway. Barry got struck by lightning. Frost and Caitlin watched their father die. We’ve lost so many precious souls. But life goes on. Is Iris helpless when Barry saves her? Is it true when vice versa happens? Frost distracts the baddie in time for Cisco to work his tech magic. Is he helpless? Is Ralph helpless when Sue took down those assassins even though she knew he was Elongated Man who is more than capable of handling a few bullets?”
“I- No?”
“Having another person around isn’t a sign of weakness, but strength. Surrounding yourself with people who love you, who you can call family isn’t an exhibition of helplessness. Allegra, you have a home now. A family that will always want the best for you whether you choose to trust us or not. And no matter what happens, Nash’s resolve is to ensure your safety even though he knows you are your own person. For his dead daughter’s sake. That’s how he believes he can redeem all that he’s done. Is that wrong?”
“But he manipulated me and then basically started the crisis.”
“Then I guess you don’t know the full story about that either,” you mocked her. Some reporter, huh. “First off, Nash told you about Team Flash before Team Flash told you about Team Flash. Why? I can only assume that he wanted you to know before you found out the hard way. Meaning if something where to happen to you unexpectedly like Blackhole targeting you because of your affiliation with Iris. He wanted you to already be aware of them and to know who to go to in case things got rough. Secondly, he gave you the push you needed to not fear your powers. To trust yourself. He foresaw that you’d need your powers and so would the others. So, where in all of that does Nash win and leave you for ruin like Eobard Thawne has done to the others? Was it wrong for Nash to indirectly help you in his own awkward bargain-y kind of way?”
Allegra ran a hand through her hair as you spoke, wanting desperately to prove you wrong that Nash was just using her. “It’s just… weird. I’m her doppelganger, I’m my own person. I’m not… her. I don’t even know her name.”
“Her name is Maya and if you asked Nash, he’d be more than willing to tell you about her, and you’d see for yourself that you and she are not the same.”
Allegra nodded at your words, looking as if she would contemplate it. You hoped anyway. The man didn’t need to be broken further. “How do you know all this?”
“It’s honestly pretty simple to push his buttons a bit before he spilled his pent-up feelings to me after we exorcised Eobard out of him. And I’m pretty sure Harry’s been giving him hell for Nash’s unsuccessful attempts with talking to you.
“Who’s he again?”
“An evil murderous speedster that has a thing for ruining Barry’s life and ensuring his existence in the timeline. Not the first time that’s happened, but the crisis allowed for us to do an exorcism was very… eye-opening.” You grinned mirthlessly to yourself causing her to smile a bit. You sighed and took a seat, gesturing for her to take it. Rubbing your eyes, you spoke up, “Nash isn’t the only one.”
“I don’t understand”
“4 years ago, Zoom was terrorizing Earth-1 and Earth-2. A speedster that could breach back and forth if all 52 breach-points weren’t sealed. It was terrifying to say the least. Barry, Cisco, Harry, and I breached over to Earth-2 with a 24-hour time limit in saving Jesse. She’s Harry’s daughter. His pride and joy, his one weakness but his true.”
“You sound like she’s yours too.”
In a way, she kinda would be if- “She’s a brilliant young soul who rivaled her father in intelligence and had a high-spirited personality. Later on, she was accidentally gifted with speedster abilities when Harry and the others tried to regain Barry’s speed. Abilities that Harry still dreads to this day because he’s an overprotective grouch. You’d like Jesse if you met her. Any who, I’m going off topic-” You laughed to yourself. “We had a strict time limit to find her before Zoom and his meta-minions expunged us off the multiverse. And Barry, he went undercover after kidnapping his nerdy doppelganger- “
“-so, Barry basically kidnapped himself- “
“-Yeah. A lot of weird shit goes on with us, but those are all stories for another time.” You waved the thought off before continuing. “So, he was undercover, and he met up with Joe and Iris’ doppelgangers on Earth-2’s Jitters. Barry couldn’t help himself when it came to protecting them when Earth-2 Killer Frost and her boyfriend crashed the little party in search for Barry and us. In the name of Zoom, they were sent out to kill of the breachers. Barry got involved when we were supposed to be incognito getting in and getting out. He sped E-2 Joe to the hospital and E-2 Iris away before she could shoot at E-2 Killer Frost. Even though, Harry told him that these doppelgangers were not his Iris and Joe, that he shouldn’t get involved with the people there. Barry saw the differences and, I kid you not, yelled at Harry that even if they were doppelgangers, they were still his Joe and Iris. He had a sense to protect them, just like Nash does for you.”
“That’s…”
 “It’s a lot, I know. We’ve all been through a lot in these past 6 years. Just… just think about it. Give Nash a chance to talk to you. To explain everything to you from his point of view. Because deep down, he knows you are your own person, but that you’re special just like Maya. Just as what Barry saw on Earth-2 with Joe and Iris’ doppelgangers. Lives worth risking for.”
You watched as Allegra took in a breath, really letting everything sink in before nodding at you. The gem that Nash had given her was still in her jacket pocket. It amplified her UV powers into mentally confusing the person in front of her. She fiddled with the tech in her hands. “I need to go give this to Cisco. He’s probably wondering if I drowned or not.” You nodded at her with an understanding smile as she retreated out the speed lab. Sighing harshly, you allowed the tension to leave your body as you reclined back in your seat. You shut your eyes. I hope I made the right decision to speak my mind to her.
“Didn’t think you thought that highly of me.” Your eyes fluttered open as you took a sharp intake of breath. Nash chuckled to himself at your dismay. His head felt incredibly murky as he blinked the dark spots away. He remained reclined as he rolled his head to the side, the feeling of his limbs returning to him as he urged his fingers to twitch and curl.
“Nash?! You were awake the entire time?!” Nash just smirked languidly at your embarrassed outburst, ignoring the slight throbbing sensation in his head. “Why didn’t you chime in?”
He watched you slowly sit up with worriment. Nash noted your continued exhaustion. “I was intrigued on what you had to say on my behalf.”
“Worried I’d tell her to UV your existence off the planet?”
“No, you wouldn’t do that.”
“And how do you know that? I can be pretty mean.”
And pretty bossy when you berate me for running into danger. But in either case, still pretty. “I understand. But then the question begs, why would you go to such great lengths to defend me?”
“I didn’t defend just you, Nash.”
“But almost the entirety of the conversation revolved around me and how I felt. My regrets and intentional self-punishment. You could have told her that you didn’t care and that she could continue to give me the cold shoulder… but you didn’t. Isn’t that right, little lady?” Nash coyly mocked you, causing you to roll your eyes at the Wells doppelganger. “Like you said, I’m a human being as well.”
“And a dumbass,” you muttered in a hushed voice to yourself as the taller man moved to stand up, he swayed not quite oriented yet. You were on your feet at once to steady him back into his seat. “Let’s do a couple of tests before you do any gallivanting across the city.” You checked over the monitors, noting that some vitals had dropped below normal which could be due to him waking up from the psyche-neural mental surgery.
“Do you want to take Barry’s blood?” You held up the syringe of speedster blood O-.
“Pass. I’m not a vampire.”
“I know you’re not a vampire, you idiot! This should speed up your body’s biochemical processes for you to retain homeostatic levels and for your mind to reorient itself to the psyche-neural splicing.” Nash stubbornly agreed to the blood administration. He rolled up his sleeve while you pulled out the necessary equipment to work your medical magic. You were just about finished when the geological myth-buster spoke up.
“Thank you… I owe you a favor.”
“Huh?”
“I said, thank you.”
“Sorry, just one more time. I don’t- I don’t think I… caught that correctly.”
“How does Harry even put up with you?”
“You can ask him yourself when he gets here,” you responded cheekily with a huge toothy grin on your face. You won’t lie and say that your heart didn’t jump that Harry would be coming soon. “Now what’s this about owing me a favor?”
Geez don’t smile like that at me. Nash pushed away those pesky thoughts. “I honestly really hoped you wouldn’t catch that, but,” He paused for a moment to collect his words as he sat up, now not taking for granted the silence within his own mind. “After you put the Psyche Segregator on me, I realized something. The favor you owed me, protecting Allegra, it’s… a favor without an expiration date.”
“So?”
“It wouldn’t be fair if I did not do the same.”
“I’m not following.”
“Gods! What I’m saying is, that I owe you a lifelong favor. But only one.”
He owes me a favor. A lifelong favor. A favor that’s lifelong. A favor that doesn’t expire. An expirationless favor. I get a lifelong favor. A dumbass owes me a favor. “…”
“What’s it going to be?”
“… I can’t think of anything right now.”
Nash only blinked at you. “Seriously, you can’t come up with something in that ditzy head of yours?”
“Hey, I take great offense to that!”
“Good, it’s the truth.”
You put away the medical equipment and disconnected the screens that held his vitals. While you were up, you gave him a water bottle and some food to help with the dizziness. Nash felt his strength return to him as the blood transfusion allowed his body to work faster in restoring itself. “You never told me; did it work? Are they…?” You trailed off pointing to your head as he stood up.
“No mo-”
Swouush, swooush
The crackling sounds of atoms and the fabric of this dimension cut you off. You turned around to see two breach-like holes open up in the middle of the speed lab, familiar and friendly faces exiting safely. They pocketed their newly synthesized dimensional extrapolators.
“Vhy don’t you take ein gut look, schatz?”
“Oui, we’d be more zhan ‘appy to answer zhat for Nash.”
You greeted them cheerily with a hand wave as they approached you and Nash. Wolfgang nodded at you before making a beeline to where the DCM remained. Sherloque tipped his hat to you before nodding at Nash.
“You guys made it safely.” :D
“Zhat we did, petit fluer. A few bumps on zhe way, but nozhing eizher of us could not ‘andle,” Sherloque piqued up,
“Then that means-,” You pulled out caramel vanilla flavored chap stick out of your pocket and applied it to your lips. Your heart waited in anticipation not even wanting to waste time to even fix your hair. Harry will be here soon. The boys just watched you carry on with a dumbstruck smile on your face as you stood in place and waited for a breach to open up. Wolfgang resumed working on recalibrating the DCM for the others.
“Did you just put on chap stick?” Nash asked with quirked eyebrows and an incredulous look.
“Well, yeah? When I see Harry, I’m going to wanna kiss him, duh.”
“You didn’t get enough from-”
“-Sherloque, don’t-”
“-when you were making out wizh ‘arry in Nash’s ‘ead?”
You shut your eyes and groaned, blood rushing up to your face as you covered it with your hands. “They did what?? Seriously, in my mindscape?” Nash’s flare-up caused Sherloque to snicker as he smirked at your bashfulness.
“Ja, zhey did zhat.” Wolfgang sighed, pulling up new schematics one the computer screen. He worked diligently with any piece of technology at his fingertips. “Alzhough, Sherloque vas zhe unfortunate one to valk in on zhem. Gott sei Dank bin ich es nicht.”
“Oui, zhey were getting very ‘ot and ‘eavy zhat it took Wolfgang and moi to interrupt zhem from what people on zhis Earth would say ‘rounding zhe bases like deux ‘ormonal teenagers.”
“Sherloque, stop! Please!”
Your cheeks were on fire and you know they could see the colored hues. Sherloque and Nash continued to tease you while you attempted to ignore their playful jabs. No Harry yet. It’s been… 15 minutes. Don’t panic. He’s ok. Probably held up or something at his Labs. He’s ok and he’s with Jesse. Just breathe. “I-I should probably run some small physiological diagnostics on you guys since you just crossed over and we don’t know if the dimensional travel will negatively impact you or not.”
“Great, she gets nervous and all of a sudden to distract herself, the little lady wants to run tests.” Nash facepalmed while Sherloque just gave you a look.
“Hey, I’m not nervous! How many times are you going to offend me today?”
“As many times as necessary.”
“Everyzhing zhat you’re doing right now are common gestures of being nervous. You keep playing wizh your fingers and biting on your bottom lip. You did zhat last year whenever we were discussing Cicada.” Sherloque added much to your chagrin.
You pouted with crossed arms. “I don’t do it often.”
“Yes, you do.” Both Nash and Sherloque responded simultaneously and you felt yourself shrink a bit under their combined blue gazes. Before you could say anything, Wolfgang let out low whistle. The three of you turned to him as he began to speak.
“Systems are all online und fully functional. Zhe ozhers should be sending us zheir dimensional coordinates und ve can commence vizh zhe cataloging soon.” The German man continued speaking as he finished typing up a few more algorithms on the computer. “I’ve already uploaded ein copy of zhe roster from my mind zhat vay ve could check zhe ozher Vells off Stück für Stück.
You nodded at Wolfgang’s words, but felt your stomach squeeze in your lower abdomen. “What about Harry?”
“Ve vill just have to vait until he shows up, schatz.” Wolfgang adjusted his glasses as he gave you a brief glance. You weren’t the only one to notice that since arriving on Earth-Prime that Wolfgang wouldn’t meet your eyes. “Do no vorry, Harry vill come.” Your shoulders sagged at the idea, an action Sherloque picked up on which prompted him to give his two cents.
Mh, une distraction semble être de mise. “(Y/N), Wolfgang ‘ere told me an interesting story about ‘is Earzh and a particular person ‘e ‘ad come across. Say, your doppelganger for instance.” The Frenchman took off his fedora to card his fingers through his dark locks whilst Wolfgang momentarily froze. Nash stretched fully before retreating out of the room, knowing he wouldn’t be needed and wouldn’t allow himself to be psychoanalyzed by the one and only Sherloque Wells. Sherloque smirked as Nash left and Wolfgang’s reaction. Il n’y a pas de mal à partager des histoires.
“Nein, halt- Ich-”
“-He told you or did you deduce it from him like you do to everyone else?” You questioned your friend slyly before turning your head back to the German Wells. “Wolfgang, you knew my doppelganger?”
“Ja, ve… ve used to be close in university.” His cheeks dusted pink as he fumbled about with the wiring of your Earth’s extrapolators. “She vas zhe one zhing zhat remained constant zhrough zhe years.”
“What happened to her? You’re talking as if-”
“She passed avay. Ja, she did. She vas terminally ill… Multiple Sclerozis.”
So that’s probably why he doesn’t like to look at me for too long. “I’m sorry. My brother- he died a few years ago from Multiple Sclerosis too. I guess the apple doesn’t fall too far from the family tree even across the multiverse, huh?”
“Ja.”
Ok (Y/N), way to make it super awkward. “I should- leave you to your sciencing. Sorry about that.”
Wolfgang just nodded his head in thanks before sending a glare to the detective while Sherloque advised the both of you to venture out to the breakroom for to make drinks. With a smug look on his face, obviously. Qu’est ce qui retarde ‘arry? The same thought echoed hauntingly in your mind as well. You allowed the French detective to pull you down the corridor for some coffee and tea, but your mind could not for the life of it let go of Harry.
***
You waited. Patiently, if I might add. It’s been 2 days since Wolfgang and Sherloque had popped over. Obviously you had gone home to shower and change before coming back with some snacks. The cataloging was running smoothly. Wells one by one projected themselves over via the DCM and recounted their dimensional coordinates as well as establishing the state of their Earth in this new dimension. But you grew uninterested in the different variations of your boyfriend. Each second ticked away at your heart. Like a fool you’d look up at the different sounds that would come from the center of the Speed Labs only to be met with disappointment. Sherloque eyed you as you waited around like a lost puppy for the Earth-2 man, even at points getting up and pacing. The detective saw the anxiety ooze from you at the fact that Harry hadn’t arrived yet, so he did his best to distract you from your worries and thoughts. But he was running out of stories of Earth-221, interesting cases, and discussion topics to tell.
Barry had sped in a couch for you and Sherloque to sit in as you waited for Harry to make an appearance. The detective calmly sipped at his new flavored tea, one that you had provided. Wild Raspberry Hibiscus. You blinked the sleep from your eyes, willing yourself to be alert. You had already consumed 4 cups of coffee with espresso yesterday, but those sleepless nights were slowly pushing against you. The two of you sat in silence with only the hums of working electricity and noises from the DCM.
“I zhink,” Wolfgang took a step back from the computer monitor, “I should retire for zhe nacht.” The German took off his glasses and rubbing his closed eyes. Es war eine mühsame Aufgabe, aber sie musste erledigt werden. “I’ve reprogrammed zhe system in order for it to catalog incoming Vells automatically.”
“I’ll keep my eye on it,” Sherloque piqued up, gesturing with his porcelain teacup to the DCM and subtly side glancing at you. Wolfgang only nodded at his doppelganger.
“Yeah, you should go rest. Sorry if it seemed like I was keeping you here,” you stood up and stretched, walking over to the German Wells.
“Nonsense, zhink of it as a favor to Harry,” Wolfgang waved off your statement. You offered your hand to the platinum-haired Wells which he shook gently before bidding your goodbyes to each other as he strode through the dimensional breach. Which reminds me. You scrunched your face and blinked a few times over then turned back to the seated detective.
“Sherloque, you don’t have to say here. You should go back home to Renee.”
“I- Comment puis-je lui dire? … Renee and I didn’t exactly work out. Encore.” You observed him as he set his teacup down, Sherloque chuckled sadly to himself. Je ne sais même pas pourquoi j’ai voulu recommencé ca va faire 8 fois.
“You deserve better. You really do, Sherloque. Love will find you.”
“Easy for you to say.”
“Hey, head up,” You found yourself sitting beside the now cynical man as you wrapped your arms around him in a comforting hug. “It could even literally run right into you one day when you least expect it. But it doesn’t mean you can run yourself ragged from sleep loss.” He sighed, shaking his head slightly and reciprocating the gesture of affection. You knew he had no problem with loving, it was the fact of having that love fully reciprocated without it becoming superficial.
“I cannot, I promised ‘arry I would not leave your side in zhe case zhat zhere would be some sort of delay on ‘is end.”
“He asked you to do that for me?”
“Oui”
“Do you think… something happened to him?”
“I wouldn’t worry. ‘e’s a capable and determined man, plus ‘e ‘as ‘is daughter wizh ‘im. Now come on, I believe zhe bozh of us deserve a change of scenery.”
“I’m feeling the need for Jitters coffee actually.”
You pulled said man off the couch and moved towards the direction of the door. Sherloque raised an eyebrow at you incredulously as he scrunched his nose in disgust at the prospect of coffee. “Coffee at zhis hour? Its 10 PM.”
“WHAT?”
“Well you’ve been on zhe Netflix entire time, peeping up every once and awhile to see if ‘arry come or not. I’m not surprised you lost track of time.”
“I guess I can drink some hot chocolate from the breakroom.”
“No need to get up,” Nash’s voice caused your head to snap up as he stepped into the Speed lab with a cup of hot chocolate in hand, “I figured you’ve had too much coffee in your clumsy existence within the past 12 hours.” In truth, Nash had made, dumped, and re-made hot chocolate 7 times in the past 2 hours because he had no idea on how you’d react when he’d make it. He had no idea why he impulsively decided to make one of your favorite drinks instead of letting you waste away at the prospect of coffee. The adventurer talked and scolded himself because you clearly don’t need him to help you out. You’re a capable, independent ditz after all with a war veteran of a boyfriend on the way. Although, Harry’s delay did ease the unsettling feeling in the pit of Nash’s stomach. Finally, the myth-buster had made a decision and added some peppermint extract to give it more flavor with some marshmallows. Fuck it, I’m going to do it anyway because… I secretly want to see her smile at me while it lasts. FuCk.
“I resent that statement, but I do thank you for the hot cocoa,” you hummed in contentment of the fresh brew. Nash saw the weight momentarily leave your shoulders and your body visibly relaxed. You saw him eye you oddly but chose to shake it off as you took another long sip. “Mm, I never got to ask, but have you met any vampires?”
“What?”
“Vampires. You said you weren’t one and I obviously know that, but I’m intrigued if you’ve encountered any on your travels through the multiverse. Cisco accidentally met one when he saved Breacher a year ago.”
“Do you always come up with bizarre questions to ask?” Nash poked your cheek as the three of you moved back to the couch. You batted his hand away. Sherloque baby blue eyes followed the banter between
“I don’t know if I should take it as a compliment or a criticism.”
“Take it as you will. I honestly don’t care.”
“Well?” You asked with furrowed eyebrows as you were seated in between Sherloque and Nash on the couch. You blinked a few times and shook your head a bit.
“Well, what?”
“Have you caused any trouble with any vampire?”
“Why is it that you think that I always cause trouble?” Nash countered your question with his own. He ignored the mockingly smug look on Sherloque’s face.
You shot Nash a look before retorting and Sherloque held in a laugh. “I’m not even going to answer that, Nash.” Nash stammered a bit before succumbing to that determined look on your face, the sparkles hidden in your eyes as they twinkled with curiosity.
“There was this one time-”
“-I knew it!-”
“-Would you let me finish before judging?” He lightly scolded you as you took another sip of your hot cocoa, your head started to throb against the hardness of your skull. “Anyway, before I was so rudely interrupted,” but you did not look in the least regretful, “this was before I met Maya. I had… overheard in a tavern on a dark Earth rumors of the Alexandrite Crown or better known in the dark legends as the Queen’s Crown. A crown thistled with alexandrite gems but infused with Thallium and Platinum. Poisonous according to the naturally occurring substances on that Earth.”
Nash continued painting the pictures to his adventure and his encounter with a Vampire Clan in a clash over the Alexandrite Crown and the mystical way of obtaining Chrysolite in order to cleanse it from the noxious spirit that’s locked away within. You hung onto each word as you pushed away the blurriness in your vision and the hazy state of your mind. With each second your head got heavier, feeling like lead and your eyes threatened to droop, but you needed this distraction from worrying about Harry’s wellbeing. Taking one deep breath, you shut your eyes as your body went out of commission. The geological adventurer breathed a sigh of relief, lowering his voice to a stop as your head gently lolled to the side, resting against Sherloque’s shoulder. Both men observed your breathing pattern relax to soft puffs of air.
“Sleeping powder, impressive and you even stalled until it took effect. Maybe zhere’s hope for you just yet,” Sherloque smugly spoke up as he readjusted you to rest your head onto his lap.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Nash narrowed his blue irises at the detective.
“Non, nozhing. What else did you bring?”
“Huh? What-I didn’t-”
“I’m a detective Nash, I notice zhe most miniscule of things. Bring over zhe pillow and blanket you ‘ave ‘idden in zhe vacant room beside zhe corridor.”
“How did you…?”
“Skill, mon ami. Skill. Just because I’m not in your ‘ead does not mean zhat I cannot see zhrough your pure intentions.”
Nash sighed in defeat as he pulled up the blanket and pillow. He first covered you with a fluffy blanket, ensuring that he would not meet Sherloque’s eyes. “She gets cold when she falls asleep.”
“And zhe pillow?”
Nash handed his doppelganger the pillow, who placed it on his lap before setting your head on it to sleep comfortably. “You already know so I’m not going to even say anything.”
The detective quirked a teasing, but knowing eyebrow at the explorer, “Be honest wizh yourself, what prompted you to essentially drug her?”
“Okay, with the way you’re saying it, you’re sounding as if I’m going to do vile things to her. And you know what? I’m not going to even pretend to not be offended by that.”
“Well in reality you technically did drug her, but zhat’s beside zhe point.”
“She hasn’t been sleeping well. You know it. I know it. Hell, everyone on Team Flash noticed, but no one had the will to reprimand her to take a day to rest.”
“You mean ‘zhe ‘eart’ to.”
“Whatever!-”
“-Shh!-”
“-The little lady needed to sleep. She can’t be running herself ragged while making sure everyone around her stays safe and healthy.”
“Zhat’s very noble of you, Nash. C’est ironique, non? Elle ne peut pas être tienne mais tu ne peux pas t’empêcher de désirer quelque chose que tu ne peux pas avoir.” Ta logique t’a réprimandé pour avoir préféré profiter d’un instant avec tes amis. Tu vas devoir apprendre à t’en contenter.
“What did you just say?”
“Nozhing!” Sherloque just gave the other man a mysterious smile as he took off his fedora and tossed it onto a spare and vacant table on the side. “You know it’s nozhing to be ashamed of, right? Caring about ‘er and ‘er safety, zhat’s what zhis team does to a person. It doesn’t make you weak. You should know zhat by now.”
“…”
“You just need to know not to tip over zhe line.” Sherloque knew his doppelganger didn’t like being deduced, didn’t like his actions thoroughly analyzed to told what and how he was feeling. But sometimes, he needed a little push in the right direction by the detective in order to fully face the intentions behind his actions. That was one of Nash’s flaws. The ability to push aside all the pain and emotions behind current actions in a little box and thrown out the window in order to press on with the adventures that he lived on. Sherloque had discretely gone through some of his recent memories and noticed it occur with not just you and Allegra, but with the members of Team Flash as well.
“I know what I’m doing,”
“Zhen I believe you have some… patching up to do wizh a certain teenager.”
“She’s not a teenager, she’s a young adult.”
“All in zhe same wizh ‘ow she was acting.”
Nash left with a slight huff as he had every intention of turning in for the night, mentally contemplating a few things. Rubbing his eyes, the explorer took one glance back from where he stood in the corridor. He dismissed the skilled detective’s words, but yours had echoed in his mind. The detective reclined back on the couch, his own mind wandering in the depths of his own nightmares and regrets. He took one look at you before shaking his head. Sherloque smirked as his ears perked up to familiar sounds causing the detective to tilt his head back.

TFWB - Chap 9 Financial District
Tumblr media
Summary: Ten years later, Jensen is reflecting the rise of his financial firm and the moments he let slip by. Check out: The Family We Built Masterlist
As (Y/N) turned the page in her scrapbook, she found a few stray pages stuck in the binding. Pulling them out, she found some journal pages of Jensen’s from when he was at his financial firm. He must have snuck them in whenever he was making this space for her. She looked down at the pictures in her book smiling.
The first one was of Jensen and Misha camping in Vancouver. Another one was of Rachel and her during their girls trip to the Rocky Mountains. One of her favorite pictures was the one of Jensen and Jared from Austin City Limits Festival. Finally, there was the clipping of Jensen from the Wall Street Journal when he was named the Youngest Most Influential CEO of 2013. (Y/N) picked up his entries and began reading.
***
Jensen looked out over his view of downtown Austin. His office was on the highest floor of the building with floor to ceiling windows. He was staring off as his mind wandered to his project sitting at home waiting for him. Anyone else in his position would be overjoyed with how life turned out. He was named Most Influential CEO of 2013, his financial firm was one of the most successful ones in the country, he was well off financially and his social calendar was always overflowing. There was nowhere in Austin that someone did not know the name Jensen Ackles.
Yet his amazing Administrative Assistant, Katherine, had asked him a question that had him staring off into oblivion.
“Mr. Ackles, may I ask you something?” her voice was timid almost like he would snap at her for speaking.
“Kat, I’ve told you, just call me Jensen and yes.”
She smiled warmly, “I was just curious and if I’m overstepping a boundary please tell me so. But I was wondering with all your success and everything why you don’t seem happy all the time?”
He was taken back for a moment, “That’s a great question. I don’t know that I have an answer for it.” He chuckled.
“You should find something or someone that makes you happy. You’re too caring and nice of a person to not be truly happy.”
Two images popped into his mind as she said truly happy, “I do have something that makes me truly happy. I guess I just don’t share it with anyone else… yet.”
She nodded, “Good. I hope you have a wonderful night, Jensen.” She left his office closing the door behind her.
That had been hours ago and yet Jensen was still sitting in his office watching the last bits of sunlight drift beneath the horizon. His phone buzzing startled him from his trance seeing it was a text within his group chat.
“Dinner at my place tonight!” Misha had sent as Jensen groaned then a few more texts came through.
“Oh no… I don’t think my stomach can handle it.”
“Misha, please order something normal.”
“If it’s not BBQ then I’m not coming over.”
The last one had been Jared the others from (Y/N) and Rachel. A couple nights a week they all got together for dinner and to catch up. Not that any of them went more than a couple of hours without talking to one another. However, this was a great distraction for Jensen from the thoughts mulling around in his head.
Jensen arrived at Misha's loft that was over the recently bought storefront for his new studio. He peeked through the window to see how it was coming along. Jensen was always in awe of Misha’s talent and was happy to be able to invest in his studio.
“Hey stranger.” The sweet voice made his heart skip a beat.
Turning around he found (Y/N) standing there the picture of perfection, “Hi there pretty girl,”
A wide grin spread across her face leading up to her bright (Y/C/E) eyes. Between her work schedule editing for Bard Press and his travel schedule they had not seen one another for a few weeks. However, they usually talk or email with one another everyday.
“What do you think Misha is going to make us eat this time?” Her cheeks puffed out as he chuckled.
“I have a feeling no matter what we will all have something to eat.” Jensen winked at her as they walked inside and up the stairs.
Sure enough Misha had gone to a local restaurant nearby and ordered the three least ordered items on the menu. On the table were boiled fish eyeballs, deep fried brain and octopus. Jensen looked over to (Y/N) who had her hand over her mouth. Rachel’s face was buried into Jared’s chest while his eyes narrowed in on Misha. Then all at once everyone began to speak over one another.
“I’m not eating that Misha.”
“Dude! I told you if it wasn’t BBQ then I wasn’t coming over!”
“I’m gonna be sick.”
Then the buzzer for the main door silenced everyone except for Jensen, “I’ll get it.”
He returned with several bags of food from one of their favorite BBQ places, “Dinner is served.”
Jared and Rachel helped him spread out the food. As he was bent over placing the foil pan of ribs down, (Y/N) leaned over and kissed his cheek.
“My hero.” She whispered then walked toward Misha’s kitchen for napkins.
Jensen’s cheek tingled where her lips were. Letting out a shaky breath, he looked up to see Jared and Rachel eyeing him from across the table. He averted his eyes and went back to setting up the food. Misha refused to eat any of the BBQ at first, but eventually gave in after trying each of the food he had ordered. Jensen was surprised and impressed when (Y/N) bravely tried some of the octopus and deep fried brain.
“You know deep fried and covered with ketchup it doesn’t taste any different than chicken.” She said as everyone watched her pop another bite into her mouth.
After dinner, they all settled into Misha’s living room where he hung a large white sheet and set up a projector for a movie. Misha was curled up on his favorite chair while Rachel was sitting with a stretched out Jared on the couch. Jensen had his arm resting comfortably across the back of the loveseat where he and (Y/N) sat with her feet resting on his lap.
Halfway through the movie he phone started to buzz in his pocket. (Y/N) removed her feet as he got up moving towards the front door.
“Hello Eric.”
“Hey Jensen, sorry to call after hours.” He sounded nervous, “It’s important, you should get back to the office.”
Jensen groaned looking back towards (Y/N), who was staring at him, “I’ll be there in twenty minutes.”
Jensen walked back over grabbing his boots and jacket as (Y/N) looked up at him, “Someone having a financial problem?”
“Something like that. I’m sorry to bail early on everyone,” He looked down at (Y/N) squeezing her shoulder gently, “I’ll call you later.”
***
“That was the night I decided I wanted out of the Financial District and finally follow my dreams. I had spent too long pleasing others and not making sure I was enjoying life. I also realized that night that my feelings for (Y/N) were getting stronger. It had been almost painful to leave her even though I knew I would talk to her later that night and see her that week. I needed to make a decision about what to do about that as well.”
(Y/N) remember how disappointed she had been when he left that night. It was not too long after that she had left as well unable to shake the feeling. True to his word, Jensen had called her and they spent hours talking on the phone to one another. It was also the night she had come to the same conclusion that she had fallen in love with Jensen.

Aces in Spaces Chapter 3
Hey everyone! I think my plan going forward will be to post new chapters on Mondays so in light of that, here’s the next one!
Summary: Roman gives Butcher the run down and explanation of Asexuality and how it pertains to Erica, warning for excessive cuteness from both. This takes place within a week of the last chapter.
(Chapter 2 can be found here and Chapter 1 here)
Tags: @princessxkenobi @sunshinepascal @rentskenobi @maybege @obaby-wan
If anyone else would like to be tagged let me know?
“Butcher, Erica is an Asexual”. The other man blinks at him and he realizes this may not be an easy fix. “It means, she doesn’t experience sexual attraction.” He takes the moment that the other man spends in confusion to turn on the projector on the table and stands so he can see the slides and Butch in the same space. The first slide is the only opening template that Microsoft power point had that didn’t make him want to roll his eyes so hard they rolled back into his skull, but now that he’s standing in front of Butch he’s convinced it really was just as bad as the others. ‘Asexuality, what it means, what it’s like, and what our response should be’ is written across it in big bolded letters and he takes comfort in the fact that Butch has always been a good listener before, and certainly seems to like Erica, so he should have his attention. He clicks to the next slide, intent on making sure not a single detail is missed, he starts to read the definition he’d gotten of the internet before turning to Butch.
“Did you read the title? I suppose since it’s the two of us this could be more of a discussion, it’ll have to be a briefing when I give it to the boys.”
Butch’s thoughtful face hasn’t uncrumpled itself, nor have his eyes left the screen but Roman’s patient, this is important and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to help Erica.
Butcher closes his mouth to purse his lips before speaking. “So, she likes you for your personality?”
Roman shrugs “I know. I was surprised too.” He says it casually and Butch huffs a laugh, Roman pauses before joining him, it is a funny thought, for how many people have told him he’s incredibly disagreeable. Assuming Butch has absorbed the definition on the screen he continues. “I’ve known for a little while now, but I wanted to be sure she was comfortable coming out before I briefed everyone.”
Butcher nods again. “How do we, is she like a nun?” he leans forward to emphasize the question and Roman turns back to the screen taking a breath.
“Well, that’s the thing. Asexuality is a spectrum, there’s a lot of different types.”
“Like a box of chocolates.” Butch says sagely, and Roman considers it before nodding
“Yes, well. I suppose so. The common denominator is that they don’t experience sexual attraction. Some still enjoy sex, some only with certain people, and some not at all, those are sex-repulsed.” He clicks the button to switch slides again, “Let’s outline the different types of attraction quickly.”
Butch is nodding again, “Yeah, that’s a good start”
“Sexual attraction is wanting to have sex with someone” Roman says it despite how crass it sounds and carries on “Platonic attraction, is wanting to be friends with someone. Aesthetic attraction is thinking something is pretty, wanting to look at it, a painting maybe.” He pauses, having gone through a slide for each definition that featured the pictures he thought best explained each and a few that Erica had suggested in her edits. He turns to Butch “I’d like to add this isn’t all inclusive by any means, I’m still learning, which is why I found a support group that I’d like to start going to, I don’t think I’ll need a guard but you do like to be aware of my schedule.” He turns back to the screen to resume before Butch cuts in, eyes never leaving the slide. “I’ll be along with you then, can’t let you wander around the city alone.”
Roman almost wants to ask if Butch heard what he said but the man says it with such a finality that he doesn’t see the point in arguing. “Well, in general, since Aces, that’s another name for them, don’t experience this attraction, it’s quite common for things that allude to it to go over their heads. The car ride earlier this week for example, Erica hadn’t meant to approach me in that way and was incredibly confused when you left.”
Butcher now looks horrified “Oh, Boss, I never meant—”
Roman shakes his head “She took no offense, it’s just not a place her mind goes.”
The sentiment obviously does little to comfort Butcher and he says as much before adding “I feel like I called her, a, well a whore Boss. I never ever would do a thing like that—” Butcher’s gentle upbringing where women are concerned is making itself known and Roman really needs to send his mother a ‘thank you’ card because it really does help them work well together. “She didn’t feel that way about it at all, I’m mostly telling you this so you can watch for if others try to suggest things to her.” Butcher’s face clears a little in understanding before Roman goes on “She’s handled herself extremely well before knowing me, we both know that, but, well, if someone is getting, well you know, and she isn’t understanding then just get rid of them, yes?”
Butcher’s face is now completely serious and even a little threatening “Consider it done Boss.”
Roman maintains his business demeanor but inside he’s positively thrilled, this is going even better than he thought. “Now I want to talk about Erica specifically, she told me a bit about how she fits into the ace spectrum and its vital for our forward plan.” He hopes Butcher is appreciating that he’s using the same format they do when they discuss upcoming business meetings and the protocols necessary for each one (location, parties involved, and prior contact, etc.) because this really is just as important to him as business. This next part is going to be the hardest though, he spent a whole night on it, because how exactly do you talk about someone’s sex life (or lack thereof) and not make it seem demeaning or judgmental or any other terrible thing? In the end he’d thrown himself on Erica’s mercy and asked how she’d prefer it to be done. He’d even offered to let her come talk to Butch herself, but she had told him she was certain Butch wouldn’t judge her.
“Now, without invading her privacy, she is an ace; so, I want to keep sex related things away from her as best we can. No dirty jokes, no crude gestures, no crass people if we can help it.”
Butch is nodding along with each condition and Roman wants to breathe a sigh of relief because being vague was the best way he knew to keep her dignity. “Any questions?” Butch pauses and shakes his head before pausing again and opening his mouth “Are there, slurs, we should know? Like, if someone calls her a nun, do we get to hit them?”
Roman beams. “That’s my next topic.” He clicks the remote again and he’s suddenly realizing he missed clicking buttons, Butcher usually gives these briefings as the head of security, have to file that away for later. “Some responses aces get when they come out is that they just haven’t met the right person, they’re a later bloomer, or that they haven’t had sex with the right people. Obviously, all of these are incredibly insensitive and downright rude. If someone says these things, feel free to immediately remove them from the premises.” Now its Butcher’s turn to beam, and Roman clicks the remote again “On a lighter note, some aces really prefer food to sex and this definitely applies to Erica. She has said, and I quote, ‘sex may be great but have people ever tried beefy 5-layer burritos?’. Aces also seem to have claimed dragons as their mascot, big ones, little ones, all colors, wings or not, dragons are where it’s at.” The slide for this section is a collage of dragons and when he’d seen Erica light up at viewing it, he’s so glad he included it.
Butcher interrupts his daydreaming with a raised hand “Are stuffed dragons acceptable?”
Roman smiles, “Yes, Erica loves small soft things. I, however, am an outlier and should not be counted.”
Butch snorts at this but Roman decides to ignore him. “As always, it’s no one’s business what she and I do together, but if someone does start giving her a hard time about this, I want you to step in. Only if she gives you a direct signal not to, should you wait.” Roman pauses then, giving an amused hum “but, if she does do that, that means she’s already got a plan to absolutely destroy the person herself so stick around for the fun because that gorgeous woman knows her way around a good insult.”
Butcher furrows his brow at this, “Are you allowed to say that? Can you, say things about her, physical, ness?”
Roman pauses before answering because this was a conversation he’d had with Erica after she came out. He had called her sexy once before and noticed the small bit of hesitation before she had smiled and changed the subject. When he brought it up in light of coming out, she had said she didn’t want to lead him on. She knew her body fit under society’s definition of ‘sexy’, but she didn’t have any intentions of performing the action, so she shied away from the designation. He’d tried to compensate afterward, only complementing her personality or intelligence before Erica had once again set him down and said she didn’t mind being told she was pretty, he’d taken the moment to ask if this meant he could compliment her aesthetically instead of sexually? She had grabbed in him in a hug. He learned this was one of her favorite words and that yes, she would be thrilled to receive compliments on her aesthetic. It’s this sentiment that he conveys to Butch, though he isn’t sure he likes the idea of Butch complimenting her. He swallows the jealousy though, he’s an adult and so is she, he trusts Butch, and Erica, and that extends to conversations they may have.
“I don’t plan to butter her up boss, just looking to make sure I understand all the circumstances that warrant the use of force.” Butch affirms calmly and Roman knows it’s the truth, he scolds himself for thinking otherwise.
“I want to move on to something else that I think is important to mention. There is another sexuality called Aromantic. It means that someone doesn’t experience romantic attraction. Erica defined romantic attraction as ‘I would slow dance in the kitchen with that person in my pajamas as we wait for coffee in the morning’. While it is possible for someone to be both Aromantic and Asexual, aro/ace is the abbreviation, Erica is not. She has said she does experience romantic attraction. Albeit very rarely.” Roman softens a bit picturing himself and Erica in the scenario he’s just described, it’s warm, easy, and while it’s probably too soon to ask her to move in so they can share their mornings, he’s definitely jotting slow dancing down for a date idea. He forces himself back to the present again and fixes Butch with a look “Any questions?”
Butch leans back in his chair and folds his massive arms across his chest as much as his jacket allows before pursing his lips and narrowing his eyes again. “This support group you mentioned, where’s that at?”
Roman clicks the remote again, this slide has a map of about five city blocks as well as the floor plan of the local library that is adjoined to the community center (he may find some of the security briefings a little too detailed but he knows what essentials Butch likes to have by now). “it’s at the local community center, heard about it on the internet” He leaves out that he spent four hours looking for one before he found a random Facebook post about it on the fourth page of chrome results but he figures his dedication is obvious either way at this point. Butch is already typing on his phone, no doubt tasking someone with retrieving more information about the whole affair.
“Do you want a scout to go in first?”
“No” Roman has already thought about this, the likelihood of it being a setup is pretty slim, and he wants to keep the business part of his life out of this as much as he can, for the sake of the other attendees. “I think it’s safe enough to go ahead.”
“Date? Time?”
“Fridays, noon, and its usually about an hour but I’d like to clear the whole afternoon indefinitely”
Butch nods along to the sentence, still typing on his phone before finishing and putting it back into his coat. “Anything else I should know?”
“Yes, I want you to schedule a meeting with the rest of the team, anyone who’ll interact with Erica, I don’t intend for there to be any misunderstandings.”
Butcher grimaces at that, “I really didn’t mean to upset her about that boss, any chance I can apologize for that?”
Roman knows Erica would say it was unnecessary, maybe even brush Butcher off, but he also wants her to know he’s taking the utmost care (Butch is too) to make sure she’s comfortable; so he nods before answering “I know she isn’t offended, but I wouldn’t mind if you did”. It has the potential to build trust between them if nothing else, and if Erica decides she wants to stick around, trusting Butcher will be integral to that process.

His Part
Tumblr media
This is another IRRelief fic this time using @hodgehegposts ‘s prompt ‘One of the brothers being ticklish’. I’ve already posted the first part of this, but I have posted it now in full. Thank you to those of you who read it incomplete. I had tried so hard to complete it in one session, but had to call it quits because of work.
Timeline: Shortly after Jeff’s disappearance, Kermadec AU, but it is not even mentioned, so completely standalone. It just uses the boys ages from that universe. Younger!Tracys
Spoilers & Warnings: None, really, 4714 words, edited very quickly at lunch at work, so apologies for anything I missed.
-o-o-o-
It started off as a mild annoyance.
Scott had fallen asleep at his father’s desk. Too much paperwork, most of which he was learning on the fly. Board members doubting his ability to take over from his father and juggle International Rescue. Virgil would kick his ass if he found out. John probably already knew.
Both elder brothers were doing their best to help. Virgil was taking on as much International Rescue as was humanly possible. John was juggling Tracy Industries almost as much as Scott while handling day-to-day IR.
His father’s shoes were massive to fill.
And he left a gaping hole in Scott’s heart.
Waking up with an imprint of his own knuckles on the side of his face and a massive crick in his neck wasn’t the best. Staring at the glow of the twelve reports still awaiting review did nothing to improve his mood.
Briefly wondering how he had managed to sleep what appeared to be at least an hour with no disturbance, he remembered that Virgil was still on the other side of the planet, John was likely busy with that same situation and the two youngest were in bed. Grandma had returned to Kansas to finalise some of Dad’s personal matters.
Scott groaned and let his head fall onto his arms again.
He was so tired.
Something tickled his neck.
Absently, he swiped at it and ended up hitting himself in the head.
A few things between his ears rattled loose.
The tickle climbed down his spine and found his ribcage.
Scott’s eyes widened and he jumped out of the chair, sending it spinning across the floor.
What the-?
It was under his shirt.
There followed a most undignified, full-bodied dance across the comms room as he attempted to get whatever it was out of his shirt.
It didn’t hurt, but it tickled like crazy. He was caught between screaming and uncontrolled giggling.
In the end, he resorted to ripping his shirt off and flinging it across the room.
The tickling stopped.
And was replaced with goose pimples as the pre-dawn breeze wafted across his skin. Scott found himself bare chested and breathing heavily.
He wasn’t afraid of bugs, but that was…strange. He eyed his shirt as if it was going to jump up and bite him.
Of course, that was the moment Gordon wandered through on his way to his morning training. The fish stood at the top of the stairs for a full ten seconds staring at his topless eldest brother standing in the middle of the room, lit only by the blue light of holo-projector on the desk.
“Interesting look there, Scott.”
Scott spared him a glare before grabbing the shirt off the floor. “Lights.”
The comms room lit up. Scott drew some satisfaction as Gordon cringed from the sudden brightness. Fortunately, the little fish scuttled off to his pool and left Scott alone without another annoying word.
There was no bug in or on his shirt. After examining it, he had no choice but to throw it back on, or continue to invite comments from the waking peanut gallery.
The sudden appearance of John on the central projector and the distant roar of the return of Thunderbird Two flicked all thoughts of bugs from his mind as the new day started even before the sun made an appearance.
-o-o-o-
Virgil was exhausted but he didn’t have time to sleep. He did give himself a few moments to sit in the kitchen, worship his bucket of coffee and stare out at Mateo as the sun rose over it. It was only blinding if he focussed on it and he didn’t have the energy to do that.
Two needed repair and she needed it now.
His last rescue had involved a volcano and she had far too many particulates in her filters. They would all need replacing before he felt comfortable taking her out again.
After that he needed to see to Alan and help him set up for the morning’s classes. He quite enjoyed helping his littlest brother, but he enjoyed it much more when he hadn’t been up all night.
But first coffee.
So warm. So inviting.
He closed his eyes as sipped the blessed liquid that was going to give him the energy to get through the rest of the day.
He nearly dropped the mug as something tickled him under his upraised arm.
He saved the mug, but didn’t manage to stifle the high-pitched squawk.
The coffee was deposited carefully, but Virgil was out of his seat and grabbing at his clothing in an energetic frenzy.
There may have been one or two more high pitched squeaks as red flannel was rubbed and scrubbed at frantically.
Out of desperation, Virgil tore off both his shirt and his grey undershirt and threw them on the floor. He resisted the urge to stamp on them.
It was his favourite shirt.
“Virg?”
He looked up to find Gordon, fresh from the pool, standing in the doorway staring at him.
“You okay?”
If Virgil flushed red, he wasn’t going to acknowledge it. “Bug in my shirt.”
“Really.”
“Really.” Frowning his grabbed his shirt from off the floor, eyeing it suspiciously. Screw it, he sat down shirtless in front of his coffee and resumed staring out the window.
Gordon walked past him to the stairs, frowning and shooting him the oddest looks.
Virgil ignored him.
-o-o-o-
Scott made it through to lunch and finally dug up the answers the factory manager in Oklahoma had been begging him for. He had also managed to answer the lawyers, read and sign a pile of holographic documents and have a long-delayed meeting with the Japanese CEO. At least John had been able to help with translation. To be honest, it had just been a relief to have a brother to talk to.
Surrounded by family.
Too damned busy.
The last task for the morning was a parent-teacher conversation with Gordon’s curriculum manager. Scott had suspicions that there was a little too much Olympic training happening versus school work. It was a fine balance that had to be maintained. Gordon was a good student, if a little out of the ordinary…but then what Tracy wasn’t? At least two were diagnosed geniuses, and the other three focussed on their goals to the point of blindness, himself included.
His short Air Force career flickered through his mind and he shunted it away.
He was where he needed to be. Fate saw to that.
Scott stepped into the sunken lounge and briefly wondered if he was going to be allowed to leave this room today at any point.
A resigned sigh and he his comms. “Gordon, time for the meeting.”
“FAB. Be there in two.”
Gordon was true to his word and appeared almost immediately, loud shirt and shorts as eye blasting as usual.
Scott reached out dropped a hand on his little brother’s shoulder. At sixteen, already Gordon’s accomplishments required a cabinet to hold all the trophies. With the loss of their father, Gordon had stumbled with the rest of them, but he was regaining his feet fast. He had to. This was his chance. The 2056 Olympics waited for no excuses.
This time it started on his wrist.
The faintest of tickles.
It was a tickle, not an itch. It played with nerve endings just like someone had their finger gently brushing across the surface of his skin.
It travelled up his arm as he snatched his hand away from his brother.
It was in his shirt again.
There were words as he once again found himself grabbing at his shirt.
“Scott, what?”
He was vaguely aware of the concerned expression on his brother’s face, but he was too busy trying not to giggle or scream.
His shirt ended up on the floor again.
Gordon stared at him a full five seconds, his face caught between incredulity, worry and hysterical laughter. Being Gordon, the laughter won out.
Scott ignored him and poked his shirt with his foot.
Of course, that was the moment John flickered in to advise that the curriculum manager was ready for the meeting. Scott had to admit that somewhere in the back of his wasted brain, there was something quite funny about the expression on the space monitor’s face.
Gordon, of course, had tears running down his face and was useless.
Scott had a lot of experience keeping his composure. He needed it all at the moment. “John, could you please ask Ms Smithson to hold for a moment, I need to grab a shirt.”
John bit his lip, obviously holding something back. But, ever the professional, he didn’t say anything but, “FAB,” before blinking out.
Scott picked up his shirt with two fingers and made a beeline for his bedroom.
At least he got a moment outside of the comms room.
-o-o-o-
A new shirt found, Scott made it through the interview. Turned out Gordon had been really working hard and with a small adjustment to his curriculum, he should be able to manage both his training and his graduation with only a small delay. Scott was satisfied that it would be the best for the athlete at this time.
The grin on Gordon’s face made it extra worthwhile.
Scott turned back to the desk after the meeting, but the list of messages awaiting his attention just hurt to look at.
Screw it. He deserved food, another room and maybe even some brotherly conversation. A quick check on Virgil’s location placed him, as expected, in the hangars. The engineer had not been happy that his ‘bird had suffered during last night’s rescue. Virgil was as bad as he was. His brother hadn’t slept, International Rescue his highest priority.
Scott sighed. How could they be expected to go ahead like this?
Lunch. Food. He struggled to focus his mind. Had he had breakfast? He couldn’t remember.
An elevator ride and he walked out into the cool underground caverns that housed the great green behemoth that was the love of his brother’s life.
It wasn’t hard to locate that brother. The profanity was extreme for Virgil and it had Scott quickening his step around the great plane. He found him harnessed and hanging in front of Two’s starboard intake. The swearing was moving into European languages, never a good sign.
Scott shouted up at the dangling engineer. “Virgil?!”
“What?!” A spanner fell and hit the concrete two metres in front of Scott. Despite himself, he jumped.
Virgil stared down at him owlishly for a whole handful of seconds. “Sorry.” It was muttered, honest, but grudging.
“Can you come down?”
“Why?”
“It’s lunch time.”
“I’m not hungry. I’ve got to get this done. I’ve got to replace part of the filter housing.”
“Well, I am hungry and you haven’t slept. Come down.”
“I’m fine! This can’t wait!”
“Damnit, Virgil, get down here now!”
The glare that hit him from above was dark and fuelled from the bottom of a desperate coffee pot. Scott had no doubt of that.
But one more muttered expletive and his brother rappelled down to the concrete floor. Dressed in flannel with his maintenance harness secured over ratty jeans, Virgil was covered in dust and grime.
Didn’t dull his fury though.
The fact he was so angry, so out of character for the generally calm and quiet engineer was more than enough proof that his brother needed rest.
“What do you want, Scott. I have to fix my ‘bird otherwise she can’t fly and we can’t answer the next call.”
“I’m having some serious doubts we can answer the next call anyway. Look at yourself, Virgil. You’re exhausted.”
“Kettle, pot, Scott.”
“Exactly! Eat lunch with me.”
Those dark brows wrinkled even further, brown eyes making that subtle switch between engineer and concerned brother.
Scott supposed he should have expected this. Maybe he was asking for it, hiding from a decision he knew he was going have to make.
Offering himself up as a sacrifice in order for Virgil to make the decision for him.
He was so goddamned tired.
This time the tickle started on his calf, just above his right sock.
He wriggled, frowning, shifting his feet.
It climbed up his leg and he let out a squawk somewhere between a giggle and a profane word that would have had Grandma washing his mouth out with soap.
“Scott?”
It was running around and around his thigh. Scott cracked and grabbed at his leg, spinning on the spot as Virgil reached for him.
Whatever it was, it was fast. Up and down his leg as if anticipated his attempts to grab it through his jeans.
“Scott, what is…oh, shit!”
The eldest Tracy spun to find Virgil hanging upside down in his harness grabbing at his shirt.
The tickle in Scott’s leg took the opportunity to breach his waist band and play with his navel.
Buttons flew across the hangar as Scott tore the shirt from his body.
There was nothing on his belly.
Virgil squawked and writhed, still upside down.
The tickle appeared back in Scott’s pants, this time behind his left knee. He didn’t hesitate, shedding his shoes, he shucked his pants and tossed them aside.
Finally, finally the ticklish feeling stopped. But Scott was left in his black short briefs and socks.
And damn it was cold in the hangars.
Virgil was still writhing upside down, unable to shed clothing due to his harness. “Goddamnit, Scott, help.” There was the sound of ripping flannel as heavy lifting muscles resorted to force.
Scott grabbed at his brother’s harness and wrapping an arm around those broad shoulders, released the safety line. Virgil weight was considerable, but Scott stabilised him enough for the engineer to get his feet beneath him. A fumble with the harness buckles and the support fell to the concrete with a clink of its metal links.
Torn flannel followed.
Two layers of shirt stripped, Virgil suddenly took a deep breath and dropped his hands to his knees, letting his head drop. “It’s stopped.”
Both brothers heaved in air for a moment.
“What the hell was that?” Virgil looked up at Scott.
“I have no idea. Third time this morning.”
“Second.” Virgil’s voice was all breath.
“Happened before?”
Virgil nodded. “Over coffee.” A frown. “Gordon came in afterwards. This isn’t a new prank is it?”
Scott stared at his brother for a moment. “Gordon was there both times this morning.”
Virgil’s shoulders dropped. “I’m going to kill him.”
“He’s not here now.” Scott looked around before hesitantly poking his shirt enough to activate his comms. “Thunderbird Five, could you give me a location on Gordon?”
“Scott? You okay?”
“I will be once I find Gordon.”
“He’s on the pool deck, apparently studying. The meeting went well?”
Scott frowned. “Yes, a few small changes will make room for his training. Gordon was very happy with the plan.” Could explain the studying.
“That’s great news.”
“Yes, it is.” He wondered how happy John would be if he could see him standing in his underwear next to a shirtless Virgil.
“Are you sure you are okay?”
Perhaps his brother didn’t need to see. “I’ll let you know after I’ve spoken to Gordon.”
“Okay. Remember fratricide is not an option.”
“Don’t spoil it for me.”
-o-o-o-
A clean pair of pants and two shirts later they found Gordon exactly where John said he would be. The sixteen-year-old was camped out on a pool lounger with a portable holoprojector, his tablet and even a print book open beside him.
“Gordon?” The strawberry blond head remained focussed on the tablet.
“Gordon!”
Scott jumped. Hell, Virgil could yell when he needed to.
Gordon looked up calmly. “Virg? Something wrong?” Scott watched his little brother take in their state of undress. Neither of them had shoes on or had done up their shirts, just in case. “What are you guys doing?”
“What do you think?” He stepped down onto the pool deck, gesturing to his open shirt. “This is on you, and you know it.”
A blink. “Know what?”
Beside Scott, Virgil lost it. God, a tired Virgil was a cranky Virgil. “What did you put in our clothes?”
“Er, nothing?” Gordon appeared to realise he was tackling the family bear in a fury, a rare, but never good thing. He put down his tablet and stood up, backing away a little. “Now, Virg, I have no idea what you are talking about.”
“You’re kidding me.”
Another step back. “Uh, no. I really have no idea what you are talking about.” Pleading eyes darted to Scott.
If Scott wasn’t so tired, he might have found the whole reversal of roles between himself and Virgil somewhat ironic. As things were, he reached out and gently wrapped his hand around Virgil’s arm.
His hand only made it part way around one bulging bicep. When the hell had that happened? He tugged gently. “Virg…”
That resulted in a pair of furious brown targeting him. “What?! He could have caused a serious accident. What if it happened while I was up in the intakes? Whatever the hell he did, it was dangerous.”
Okay, so Virgil had a point.
Gordon held up his hands. “Honest, guys, I have no idea what you are talking about.”
“So, you know nothing about an…irritant in our clothing?” Scott stared him down.
“Uh, no?”
He held his little brother’s expression a moment longer. It would likely have been even longer, but Gordon suddenly frowned.
And grabbed at his pants. “What the hell?”
Both Scott and Virgil stared as Gordon started dancing around the pool deck tearing at his clothes. His squawk turned into a giggle as he squirmed. “Omigod, stop!” The giggle became a laugh and Scott found himself holding back from joining in. Beside him Virgil snorted before running in to help their struggling little brother.
He needn’t have bothered. Gordon gave out an exaggerated laugh before throwing himself in the pool.
The sudden silence was almost shocking.
“Gordon!” Virgil stood on the side of the pool staring down at his brother under the water. Two strides and Scott was beside him as Gordon resurfaced, hair in his face, gasping and shirtless.
“Oh my god, that was hilarious!” He coughed out another laugh and threw his shirt onto the deck. “I want to know how you did that.” Gordon grinned up at them.
“We didn’t do it.” Virgil’s voice was sharp.
“Wha-? You’re kidding?”
Scott shook his head as Gordon levered himself out of the pool.
“Then who? And how?” The swimmer shook the water out of his hair and coated his brothers in the process. At Virgil’s snarl, Gordon’s grin was unrepentant.
Well, when he looked at it that way, there were only two possible choices and this was not a Brains concept in the slightest.
It was Gordon who said it first. “Alan? Where are you? That was so cool! You gotta show me how you did it!”
Scott didn’t expect an answer. He expected to have to hunt his little brother down like he had Gordon, oh, so many times. So, he was surprised when Alan slunk out of the kitchen with some kind of remote in his hands.
“Alan?” Virgil’s voice spoke of the shock Scott was attempting to process in his head. Alan was a good student. Precocious and bright, but far from the prankster his brother was.
Gordon bounced over to his little brother. “That was so cool! How did you do it?”
“Nanobots.”
“Nanobots.” The word fell from Virgil’s mouth. “You used medical technology for a prank?”
Scott reached out and grabbed Virgil’s arm again. “Alan, explain yourself.”
The boy’s shoulders dropped. “Failed experiment for school.”
Scott blinked. “What?” None of this was making sense.
And suddenly he was shot with a pair of anguished eyes. “I only wanted to make you laugh!”
Scott stared.
The bicep under his hand wilted.
“Allie?” Gordon’s voice was curious, but soft.
Those blue eyes shifted to the fish. “They don’t smile anymore, much less laugh. So, I thought a little medical intervention might help.” And those hurting eyes flickered to Virgil.
The sound that issued from the engineer was heartbreaking.
While Scott’s brain was uncharacteristically caught in freefall, Gordon presented a parachute. “You made ticklebots?!” His amber eyes were wide with amazement.
As always, Gordon’s joy was infectious and Alan relaxed just a little, a small smile curving his lips. “Yeah, kinda.”
Gordon bounded over and grabbed his brother in a massive hug. “I am so proud!”
Scott let go of Virgil and took several of the steps between himself and his little eleven-year-old brother.
Gordon continued to gush, asking a range of technical questions with such enthusiasm that the small corner of Scott’s mind that was still functioning alerted him that this could be a bad thing for his future sanity.
But right now, he was fixated by those blue eyes, so reflective of his own that were staring up at him.
“Alan?”
Gordon stopped his babbling, but took up a defensive position beside his little brother. Something inside Scott bent and broke just a little.
But his focus was on Alan.
Those blue eyes looked down, breaking contact. “I’m sorry. I just wanted to see you laugh.”
“So, you tried to tickle us?”
Defiance shot those eyes back up. “Well, I wasn’t going to drug you, was I? Nothing else was working! You and Virgil are just so sad and busy and John is never here anymore and…and…no one laughs anymore!” A frown. Those eyes flickered past Scott and crumpled. “And you’re crying again.”
Scott turned and found Virgil struggling with his emotions, a tear running down his face. Aw, shit.
Alan turned away and took a retreating step, but a blur of red flannel and the youngest was swept up in desperate hug. “I’m sorry, Allie.”
A muffled “’s’not your fault.” But Alan was clinging to his brother like a life raft.
Scott blinked several times. The thought that his genius little brother had to resort to technology out of desperation to see a smile hurt somewhere deep down where he had buried his own tears.
An amber gaze saved him from drowning. Gordon stood on the other side of Virgil and Alan, his shoulders straightening. “So, Allie, can I borrow your bots?”
With that single sentence, the moment snapped with a chorused “No!” from the both eldest. Virgil tumbled backwards in his haste to stand up.
Gordon feigned innocence. “Why not? I have my own experiment to perform. You know, for mental health reasons.”
“No, Gordon.” Scott’s tone was full commander, but the fish just grinned up at him. Hell, he was caught wondering if Gordon would ever obey him.
“Gordon.” Virgil’s voice had that deep grumble of warning.
The fish shrugged and relented. “Eh, your loss. It was going to be brilliant.”
“Sure.” Scott’s tone dripped sarcasm.
“But!” Gordon grinned. “Allie wins the trophy for the concept and invention!” He wrapped an arm around his little brother’s shoulders. “I am so proud.”
Alan smiled up at the fish with appreciation.
Scott held out his hand and those shoulders dropped, the smile disappearing.
“Alan.”
More the reluctant and pouting tween he was, his little brother handed over the remote. Scott glanced at it before handing it off immediately to Virgil. The engineer would be able to make more sense of it than he ever would.
Scott held out an arm and blue eyes stared up at him for just a split second before dashing into the hug the eldest was desperate to give him. Both arms wrapped around Alan and he buried his face in blond hair. “I’m sorry, Allie.”
“’S not your fault.”
“Doesn’t matter. I will try to do better.”
“’S not your fault.”
A glance in Virgil’s direction only to find the big man fighting back tears again. Even Gordon’s expression was a little broken…until he realised Scott was looking at him, then the goofiest of grins split his face and he crossed his eyes.
The laugh that fell from Scott’s lips was almost strangled by a sob.
The devilry that suddenly appeared on that face overrode every other thought with mild fear.
Gordon didn’t disappoint. Sliding up behind a teary Virgil, he darted in and tickled their bear of a brother.
Virgil squawked and wriggle danced out of reach.
Scott couldn’t help it.
He laughed again.
“C’mere, Virgie, I wanna ticklebot you!” Gordon exaggerated tickling fingers at his brother before jumping into what became a hilarious chase around the pool.
Scott couldn’t help but grin even more.
Alan outright laughed.
And something lifted just a little from Scott’s chest.
“Thank you, Allie.”
Surprised blue shot up at him.
“You’re right. We need to laugh more.”
Virgil ended up in the pool.
Gordon jumped in after him.
And Scott hugged his littlest brother so much closer.

The afternoon relaxed into together time. Phones rang but were ignored. John was dragged down from orbit. The barbecue was lugged out, food found and cooked for dinner and a comfortable feeling that had been absent since their father had been lost, found its way onto the Island.
Gordon cherished it.
Virgil continued to be a touch emotional during the entire time, grabbing random brothers and attempting to smother them with his arms. Scott was quieter, but even Gordon noticed he was far from Alan at any point that entire afternoon and evening. John was quietly puzzled about the whole thing until he suddenly grabbed at his shirt and jumped and jiggled about.
“Oh, so that’s how it works.” Virgil was staring down at the remote control in his hand, poking at it.
John let out a squawk and fell onto the couch writhing.
His shirt was thrown off moments later.
“Hey, Alan, how do you turn them off?”
Therein followed some discussion on Alan and Virgil’s part, followed by Scott and his two cents when he felt it appropriate.
John started yelling at them after a very short period of time, still writhing on the sofa.
Gordon thought it was absolutely hilarious and had trouble keeping his feet while laughing.
All in all, it was a fantastic afternoon and evening.
Scott fell asleep on the couch with his arm wrapped around a snoozing Alan five minutes into the movie Gordon had chosen. Virgil lasted another five minutes before caving into a faceplant on one of the cushions. His snores made it difficult to hear the movie, but the remaining three brothers cared not a whit. By the time John joined them in the land of the exhausted, the movie was little more than soundscape.
But Gordon wouldn’t have it any other way.
This was something that they had been missing for so long. Gordon sat there fake watching the movie and honestly holding back a few tears at the thought. Alan was right. They needed more laughter. His big brothers, John included, were shouldering so much now their father was no longer with them, and yes, his thoughts stumbled on that acknowledgement. God, he missed his dad. But they all had to do their part.
If there was something Gordon wanted to do, it was bring back the laughter. If it took itching powder and dye, if it took silly hats and fake tattoos, if it took everything he had, he would see his brothers happy.
They all had to do their part.
And he would make this his.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cassian woke up trying to reach for Nesta but instead finding a cold side of bed. He had gone to the rooftop pool with Nesta and safe to say they had a…rough night. He pushed himself up and leaned against the headboard, the bathroom door was open giving him a full view of his fiancé’s back in that pretty white bathing suit. She was putting on mascara, her clothes on the heating rack in the bathroom.
“Where are you going?”
“Starbucks then my old house. It’s about time I cleared that place up.”
He grimaced, the old house as in the villa she grew up in that have reminders of her dead parents.
He started getting up only to have Nesta push him down, “You didn’t get much sleep last night,” She started fixing her bandanna in the mirror, “Stay. I’ll see you later.”
He rolled his eyes, “You didn’t get much sleep either.”
“That’s why I’m going to Starbucks,” She winked and trotted down the stairs leaving.
Well then he could also get Starbucks.
------
She was waiting in the line, scrolling through Instagram not bothering to look behind her. As she got to the front she smiled at the barista,
“Hey could I have-” a hand came around her waist.
“Caramel macchiato, Venti with extra whip, please.”
The barista smiled, “And for you sir?”
Cassian smiled, “me? Well-“
“He wants a Venti iced hazelnut macchiato, no whip and light ice.”
“Names?”
Cassian pinched her waist, “Nessie and Cassian.”
Nesta threw him a harsh look.
They moved along to the end.
“What are you doing here?”
“Helping you clear up your parent’s villa.”
She rolled her eyes.
“You know sweetheart you chug down coffee like its water I don’t think it’s healthy.”
“Shut up Cassian.”
The baristo handed their drinks to them giving Nesta a flirtatious smile which Nesta returned only to piss Cassian off.
Cassian growled.
She pulled him out of the coffeehouse before he could make a scene.
“Did you bring your car?” she asked him, because she hadn’t, she was planning on taking an uber.
He grunted a response she assumed was a yes.
As they got to his car, he opened the car door for her but didn’t look at her. She rolled her eyes.
She got in his black Bentley, as he got in next to her she pressed a kiss to his cheek, “Baby.”
No answer, “Baby!”
“Yes?” He turned, his lips so close to hers.
“I love you.” She pressed her lips to his, it always worked.
As she sat back, his hand went on her thigh.
“Are you sure you should be going there wearing that, babe? I mean as gorgeous as you look, will you be able to move around in it?”
She looked down at her baby blue Bardot tie front and high waist shorts.
“You’d be surprised sweetie.”
As they pulled up to the rustic villa Nesta sighed. Home.
She jogged up to the front door and opened it.
After all the Archeron sisters had moved out with their respective boyfriends and their father…passed the house was left the exact same way. She assumed it was an Archeron thing as after her mother died everything was left the same in her chambers as well.
She sipped her coffee.
“I’ll get started on clearing up the cellar babe, you get started upstairs ok?”
She mindlessly nodded heading upstairs; she had somewhere she needed to go. Something that was begging her attention.
She trotted down the marble hallway into her mother’s second room. The room she didn’t share with her father that she slept more and more in after their marriage was breaking. She went in and gasped. If Nesta didn’t know better she’d think her mother had gone to a party, because the room was immaculate, but still somehow like her mother.
Her mother’s perfume slanted on the table as if she’d just used it, her coat slung over her arm chair, a corner of her duvet folded over.
Her eyes got watery at the jewellery box on her mother’s dressing table.
She opened the box and sighed at the tune playing which she always sung along too and did so now.
“…and when you speak angels sing from above and every word seems to turn into love songs. Give your heart and soul to me and life will always be-”
She broke off at the twin bracelets in the box. She had given it her mother, when she was 13, in the morning for safekeeping because school wouldn’t allow it and forgot to get it back.
White gold chain bracelets with white gold hearts on them. She slid the bracelets on and underneath them, now out in the open from their absence were…pen drives. They had a gold geometric stick.
She giggled at how classy her mother is. Was. Her smile faded.
But what would her mother need to hide in a pen drive in her jewellery box of all places. Footsteps coming upstairs, she slipped the pen drives inside her pocket and closed the jewellery box.
Hands on her waist, lips skimming her neck.
“Clearing up, baby?”
She turned, “I was just about to start.”
“Oh really?” he looked around, “Who’s room was this?”
“My mom’s chambers, her second room.”
“Funny how she left everything for you. You must’ve been her favourite.”
“I was.”
They had countless arguments on this. Him defending Feyre and Elain, her standing her own ground. He was under the impression that Feyre was a villain in her story. She was. And Cassian wouldn’t accept that. He tried to justify Feyre’s actions. Nesta ended up not talking to him for 4 days, because on that topic she never argued for too long, just shut down.
This is why he didn’t push an argument today. She was trying to fix the bond between her sisters. But when the wound is fresh it doesn’t heal as quickly.
She was meeting them tomorrow. Ugh.
At least Cress would be there.
“My heads hurting I wanna go home.” He nodded and led her downstairs. As they got in the car Nesta felt like a hole was burning her pocket.
“Babe you ok?” He asked.
She nodded. Looking back onto the clear expanse of her childhood estate.
“You weren’t wearing those bracelets when we went in. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever seen you wear those.”
She smiled, “I was getting in the car for high school and mum came out to give me my watch and she said, ‘Nesta jewellery isn’t allowed at school’ so I gave these for here to keep safe and forgot to take it back, she’s kept it safe for 11 years.”
He reached over and kissed her cheek. “They look amazing on you.”
-----
She clicked off her phone and tried to pull her brown mini skirt lower.
“Cresseida says she’s still on her flight from Manhattan. She should be here in a couple of hours.” Feyre and Elain both nodded, Elain stood.
“Want coffee?” Feyre nodded.
“Wait, Elain it’s my house I’ll-” Elain waved her off getting out three mugs. Nesta went and sat opposite Feyre.
“No need to make anything I have a stash of frappe’s in the fridge.”
Elain put the cups away and started picking out flavours.
Nesta took a deep breath.
“So I went to our old villa with Cassian yesterday…” Elain stopped her rattling of the bottles, Feyre sat up, “And I found these from mom’s old jewellery box.” She took out the pen drives.
“Cute. Have you seen what’s in them?” Feyre asked.
“No I thought I’d show you guys as well, just in case it’s a list of bad people.”
Feyre chuckled, “You watch Blacklist too much.”
Nesta rolled her eyes and got her projector out.
Elain came passing around the glass bottles she had topped with whipped cream and red straws.
Feyre gave Nesta a look.
“What? I brought this projector and literally haven’t used it since.”
She plugged it in.
A video started playing.
“Momma I can’t reach!”
A woman came into the shot, picking up the little girl in the middle of the orchid.
“It’s ok sweetie! Mama’s here.” She picked out the lemons and handed one.
A male voice from behind the camera said, “Nesta look at the camera darling!”
The woman turned showing her pregnant tummy and pointing the camera out to Nesta.
“Daddy I want to pick a lemon.”
The camera was passed onto to someone else and Randolph Archeron ran to Nesta taking her from his wife and placing her behind his head. Nesta picked a lemon and giggled showing it to her mother who was behind her. Adelaide took the lemon from her and went on her tip toes. Nesta leaning back to kiss her mother on the lips.
The video froze for a few seconds.
“Nesta what is-” Elain asked.
“It’s a home video, from when we were younger.”
Feyre glued her eyes back to the wall.
The video changed.
Nesta, Adelaide and Feyre were picking and posing with oranges. Elain holding the camera.
“Smile!!!!” her voice said.
Nesta dropped an orange.
“OMG Nesta!” Elain shrieked, “You’re ruing my shot!”
Nesta picked up the orange, “Ok geez.”
Feyre had started peeling the orange in her hand causing their mother to burst into laughter at Elain’s shriek.
Again another video slid in, a longer one this time.
“Come on Feyre!” Nesta shouted.
“Cominggg.” The camera started running towards Nesta and Elain.
“We were really cute,” Elain said.
Feyre nodded, “I can’t believe she kept these. Where even are we?”
“In Verona I think.” Nesta said.
They were wearing hats too big for their heads.
Elain stopped.
“Dad can I go with you I’m tired.”
Randolph chuckled from behind the camera and held out his hand.
“You were such a daddy’s girl,” Nesta said to Elain.
Elain swiped cream on Nesta’s cheek.
“Get Cassian to lick that off later.”
“Idiot.”
“Come on Fey,” Adelaide picked up Feyre and took Nesta’s hand.
She took their hats off, and held them.
They made their way through the tomato fields into the house. Nesta took the camera from Feyre and ran into the hall. She set the camera down on a counter and started dancing on her own.
“What are you doing Nes?” Adelaide came and picked Nesta up giving her a piggyback; Nesta giggled and clutched her tight.
“She loved you a lot,” Elain looked at Nesta, who was staring at the screen. She didn’t answer, unable to at the longing in Elain’s voice and in Feyre’s eyes. They had always been their father’s child; Nesta had always belonged to her mother. She had stayed with her mother till the end.
Little Nesta in the video said to her mother, “Where’s Feyre?!”
Her mother chuckled, “I don’t know sweetie.”
“Let’s find out, we shall go on a secret mission,” She took the camera off the counter and shoved in her mother’s hands,
“You hold the camera.”
“Oop, ok wait for me,” They ran through the house hiding next to the door look into the kitchen. Feyre had taken out an easel and had started painting.
“Honestly, she’s already started painting, Help me God,” Adelaide laughed at mini Nesta’s sass.
Nesta burst through the door, “Oh Feyre, whatcha doing?”
Feyre looked up and grabbed Nesta, “Good thing you’re here Nes, I needed someone to paint.”
Nesta flicked a lock of hair over her shoulder, “Of course.”
After a few minutes of Nesta fidgeting, Feyre screamed at her to "Sit still Nesta!!" But Nesta kept on looking over at what Elain was doing in the garden.
Adelaide sat down on the kitchen table, the camera jolting.
The video flicked to the next one.
Adelaide was walking up the stairs.
“We seem to have a messy situation downstairs. Proceeding with caution.” She flipped the camera hiding on the landing to show Randolph and his 3 daughters making cookies, Nesta as the first person to notice squealing,
“Momma!!” She ran into her arms smearing her with flour and icing.
“You smell like cookie dough!!!”
Their cookie making continued, throwing flour at each other.
The clip ended. Another one rolled.
“Welcome to our house tour at night.” Adelaide started.
Adelaide started walking through explaining the pictures on the wall.
“There’s me and the girls. Me and Nesta. Randolph with a very tired Nesta. Aw, look at my baby. Nesta with Oliver. Good god if he wasn’t like a brother to her then I would’ve predicted these two would’ve got married.” She laughed, “Well the guy who does get married to Nesta must be a really lucky man. There’s Feyre with her canvas look at her artist in the making. Elain with her flowers that she grew herself, my little gardener!” She moved along to some other picture her voice growing less fond, “Mine and Randolph’s wedding pictures, our anniversary. Lord knows where he is nowadays.” She went quiet, “Anyway let’s check on the little ones the nanny must have put them to sleep.”
She went into a big room, where Nesta was sleeping. The room was light and airy with fairy lights on the wall and Polaroid pictures.
“There’s my baby,” she caressed a hand down Nesta’s face pressing a kiss to her face. Nesta wriggled.
“Goodnight baby.”
She moved into another room, a pink one this time, “There’s baby Elain with her little elf doll.” Elain lay in a plush pink bed in the middle clutching onto a knitted elf doll. Her mother fixed her covers and pressed a kiss to her head.
The next room was covered in with plush toys, the walls covered with stuck on paintings she did at school and at home.
Feyre was still wearing her apron. Adelaide tutted, placing the camera on the desk and holding up a sleeping mini Feyre getting her out of the apron. She put her back to sleep and pulled the covers over her. Pressing a kiss to her forehead as well.
She looked at the camera.
“Can’t wait till they grow up. Hopefully they won’t turn out like me or Randolph. Oh Lord just let them be happy. Especially Nesta. I overheard her telling her teddy that “Daddy doesn’t love her,” I hope she finds someone who does. Who chooses her and keeps on choosing her every day. And this one-” she stroked Feyre, “she should get out from behind that easel every once in a while, just like how Elain needs someone who will be gentle with her as she is gentle with her flowers. I’ll probably show this video to my grandkids, embarrass their mums.” She laughed at the thought.
A door opened and shut.
“Randolph’s here. Let’s find out where he’s been. So bye future and old me and Nesta, Elain and Feyre. I love all of you.”
The video clicked off.
Nesta was toying with her ring. Tears slipping down her face as she knew it was slipping down Elain and Feyre’s. Her mum would have loved Cassian. Well, maybe not at first but…yes she really would have. She smiled at her sisters. Not being able to say anything.
-------
She had showed Cassian, obviously.
And he’d…well.
He was a fan of their mother.
And then she’d started crying,
“Baby, are you ok?”
“I miss her.”
“well couldn’t we get all those pictures she was talking about in the video and bring it here.”
She hadn’t thought of that, “But the house is in Verona.”
“Book tickets for us tomorrow so we can go the day after.”
She paused for a minute then squealed,
“Baby, baby!! You are the best.” She kissed him deeply.
She broke away smiling mischievously down at him.
“Can we take the yacht?”
She squealed again kissing him even deeper.

Whumptober Day 22: Exhaustion
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Characters: Miles Edgeworth, Phoenix Wright
Notes: Some post-SoJ married!Wrightworth for your troubles. Miles is working late while under the weather, so his loving husband Phoenix is dropping by to take him home. In this house we love draping coats over sleeping, sick workaholics.
      Miles told him he was fine. Why would Phoenix question that? Earlier in his legal career, sure, the chief prosecutor’s picture could be found next to both ‘workaholic’ and ‘overexertion’ in the dictionary. In his thirties, however? Both Miles and his husband liked to think of themselves to have learned their limits. They had even demonstrated that fact just last week by calling in for a particularly bad hangover after attending Larry’s bachelor party (for his real wedding this time). So why did Phoenix feel a pit in his stomach when he heard Miles coughing while leaving for work early in the morning?
“I’m sure he’s fine.” Phoenix told himself as he fidgeted with a pen cap. He could easily just leave the office right now if he wanted to. The Wright Anything Agency was hardly overflowing with potential clients, unlike how he imagined Apollo’s newly established firm in Khura’in was right now. Even Athena, who had been itching for a case she could take on herself, took no issue in abandoning her post to take Trucy to another college fair. Phoenix wanted to be the one taking her, but after his tearful display of emotion at the last one he attended with her, Trucy thought it would be best to take someone not nearly as attached.
He considered calling Maya to distract himself and possibly inviting her to grab something to eat. He even thought about calling one of his old clients to catch up. What was Ron DeLite up to these days? The last thing he posted on social media was a picture from his second child’s birthday party last month, which was naturally as abundant with expensive gifts as one would expect. Well, it was more so the last post of Ron’s that Miles had shown him, since Phoenix knew less about social media than even the judge at this point. Was that something to be ashamed of?
Speaking of the judge, Phoenix still wanted to scrub his mind of the image of the court projector accidentally displaying some… less than clothed photos of the judge and his wife in the middle of a trial. Great, now he had two things he needed to take his mind off of. He settled on zoning out in front of the office TV, mindlessly channel-surfing until something interesting came along.
Another Samurai reboot? No thanks. Real Swamp Wives? Intriguing, but not today. City Career Woman Finds Christmas Magic 3? Pass.
His thumb got tired after reaching the channel that seemed to only play reruns of The C-Team, which must have been fate because by the third episode in, Phoenix found himself hooked. If his first introduction to the show wasn’t from a clown’s terribly tedious testimony, he might have found its charm sooner. He was disappointed when, after the sun had set, the channel’s programming block switched to a very long commercial for an air purifier he already owned. This brought his attention back to Miles. He checked his brick of a phone, saddened to see he had missed a text from an hour ago.
“I’ll be home late. Please give Pess her evening treat and tell her what a good girl she is. With love, Miles Edgeworth. <3”
Phoenix cracked a smile at his husband’s inability to leave professionalism at the door when it came to written messages. Of course, he was getting better about it and signed more personal texts with something more affectionate, but the habit was clearly set in stone. He did this even on post-it notes about being out of milk or a reminder to hire someone to mow the lawn.
Phoenix shut off the TV and stood up, ready to combat the weight of worry he had been feeling since this morning by hopping on his bike to reach the prosecutor’s office building. He had his own visitor’s pass and key, just for the chief prosecutor’s office. At first it felt special to have such permissions, but as time went on, it was just a part of his life like grocery shopping or duct taping something until just giving in and having it professionally repaired.
What a sight the office was this evening, too, something Phoenix hoped he would see less of.  Miles was asleep with his head down on his desk, cluttered with crumpled up tissues that never quite made their trip to the nearly full trash bin. He was always a snorer, but his congestion was definitely more apparent here. Dark circles made their home around his eyes, making Phoenix wonder just how much sleep Miles had actually gotten last night. It wasn’t like Phoenix got much sleep either that night, being frequently interrupted by Miles’s sniffling or coughing, despite his husband’s attempts to not be heard.
Phoenix shushed himself as he unbuttoned his coat to use as a makeshift blanket over his sleeping husband. Miles really should have been in bed, but this was about the best Phoenix could realistically get. He could’ve sworn he just saw Miles’s eyes open, so he froze in place hoping Miles would return to his moderately peaceful sleep.
“Hh’hsshhuh!” Miles sneezed softly enough not to alarm Phoenix, but strongly enough to wake himself up. “Mr. Gavin, I told you I’m quite alright.” He said groggily, still too out of it to notice who was actually in the room with him.
“Guess again.” Phoenix leaned with his palm on the desk, pushing some papers out of the way with his fingers. “You have two more tries.”
“Very funny, love.” Second time’s the charm. Miles sat upright, unwittingly letting the coat fall onto the floor. “Why aren’t you at home?”
“I should be the one asking you that.” Phoenix bent over to pick his coat back up before putting it on, anticipating that he would soon be taking his husband home. “There’s a cozy bed with your name on it.” He felt Miles’s forehead from behind him. “Looks like there’s a two-day minimum, too.”
“I would agree,” Miles muffled a small fit of coughing in his elbow, “but today’s circumstances prevent me from taking your offer, as tempting as it may be.”
“What could possibly be more important than letting yourself rest? We’re not as young and spry as we used to be.” Phoenix said, forgetting he and Miles were only in their 30’s and had a way to go before reminiscing how ‘spry’ they once were.
“Someone who has the office database password thought it would be funny to meddle with important files.” Miles moved his computer mouse to click on one of the files for an example. At a glance, the text looked normal until Phoenix’s eyes reached the middle portion. Unless it was of utmost importance to describe a defendant as someone who is ‘never going to give you up,’ the document was definitely vandalized. “Since the name listed on the edit history is listed as Hugh Jass, and no one is coming forward about it, I need to stay late to clean this up.” His annoyance was apparent as he tugged another tissue from the box beside him. At least after blowing his nose, he seemed to be a little more calm.
“Wait-” Phoenix stifled a laugh, “Hugh Jass?” He snorted before letting the urge to laugh overtake him. Miles, however, was either very clearly unamused or just exhausted; probably both. “I’m so sorry.” Phoenix needed to catch his breath, coughing a few times before he could collect himself.
“I hope you’re not catching this cold as well.” Miles refused to acknowledge the humor found in the name. He closed out the window before shutting down his desk computer, figuring if he kept staring at these vandalized documents, he would be worse off than he already was.
“No, I just laughed too hard, I swear.” Phoenix pulled Miles’s chair out for him, gesturing for him to stand up. “Ready to go home?”
“Why not?” Miles tilted his head back and raised his hand near his face. “Hu’hrrSSHOOH! HH’SSHHCHOOUH!!” He grabbed a handful of tissues for the road, immediately making use of one. “I’m going to pretend this was all just an awful fever dream.”
“Then let’s get you home to bed and when you’re feeling better, I’m sure the documents will have recovered as well.” Phoenix led his husband by the hand out of the building. Just as they stepped out of the chief prosecutor’s office, he could’ve sworn he heard Miles mumble something, accompanied by something that sounded like a brief chuckle.
“Heh. Hugh Jass.”

Snap Out of It
Beast Boy x Reader
Summary: When a mission against Mad Mod goes wrong, it’s up to you to snap your favorite shapeshifter out of his hypnotism.
Note: Hi, my name is Morgan and I love Beast Boy with all of my heart. Sorry not sorry lmao. But yeah, this has been bouncing around my head forever. Forgive me. Edit: I think this is the quickest I’ve ever written a fic asjhafkjdh
Warnings: None?
Word Count: 1.6k
Tumblr media
Why, during summer vacation of all times, did it have to be Mad Mod? Why? You hated the red-haired old man with every bone in your body, especially when he disrupted your one break from school. Today was supposed to be a nice day. The team was planning on going to the beach all day and then having a movie night so you could watch the new X-Men movie you’d heard less than satisfactory things about, but nooooo. Now you were strapped to a chair, a spinning vortex swirling in front of you and a soothing voice telling you to relax.
Were you at the beach? No. So relaxing wasn’t going to happen.
The room you were trapped in was modeled to look like a classroom, which only served to piss you off even more. You swore anger was the only thing keeping you lucid. So you sat there, stewing in your rage until it was finally enough to give you the strength to bust free of the metal shackles around your wrists.
With them out of the way, and not inhibiting you anymore, you could use your powers again. So you did, using a blast of purple energy to destroy the projector hanging down from the ceiling. Its remains sparked and smoked and the wall it had been projecting onto went dark. You were fine, as far as you knew. A little dizzy from staring at that damn spiral for so long, sure, but fine otherwise.
So, you set out to find the others.
Victor was trapped in an unending game of dodgeball until you helped him through the hidden door. Raven had been locked in a janitor’s closet sealed shut with magic so she couldn’t get out, Starfire was bound to the jungle gym, and finally, Robin had found himself stuck in the principal’s office.
That left one green shapeshifter unaccounted for.
“In here.” Raven pointed to a door labeled ‘Algebra.’ There were lights flickering inside, and you prayed that opening the door wouldn’t lead to another trap. Luckily enough, it was a room similar to the one you had been trapped in, a whirling swirl spinning on the wall in front of where Beast Boy was tied down. His head was tilted to the size, his eyes crossed and his body limp.
You destroyed the projector with a blast of energy, but that didn’t shake him from his daze. Gar was still sitting there, an empty look in his eyes.
“We need to snap him out of it.” Robin waved a hand in front of your teammate’s face. He didn’t budge.
“Underpants.” Starfire tried. Though that method had worked before, on one of the other occasions you’d all been kidnapped by your least favorite madman, it didn’t this time.
“Wake up, Gar!” Raven snapped, shaking his shoulder. That didn’t work either.
Victor tried to tell him a joke, Dick snapped in his face a few times, but none of it seemed to have any effect on him at all. And then you got an idea.
“Alright, step aside.” You motioned the others away. Your powers, being magic based, had some perks sometimes. One of said perks was to be able to break people out of spells and other tricks of the mind. The only downside, really, was the method you had to use to do such a thing. “Listen. If this doesn’t work, we never tell Gar it happened, alright? I’d never hear the end of it…”
“Do what you’ve gotta do.” Dick nodded, crossing his arms.
The others all watched as you lowered yourself onto Garfield’s lap. You grimaced. This was decidedly too weird. You couldn’t remember a time you’d ever been this close to him. After all, this was Gar you were talking about. You leaned in and then hesitated. Were you really going to do this? Was this where your super-heroing adventures had led you after all of these years? You were going to…ugh, you couldn’t. You couldn’t! But you had to. You knew he’d do the same for you.
So, after thinking it over for a long moment, trying to figure out any other way, but failing to come up with anything, you leaned forward and pressed your lips against his in a magical kiss, siphoning the dark energy out of him until finally—
He kissed you back.
As soon as you felt his lips moving against yours, you squeaked, jumping out of his lap as both of your hands slapped over your mouth. You kissed Garfield and He Kissed You Back.
Well, now you felt weird about the whole thing.
When you looked down at him, he was still tied to the chair, staring up at you in a different sort of daze, cheeks pink and getting pinker as he realized what had happened only moments before. Victor untied him and Dick helped him stand while you just stood there in shock, still processing.
“You okay?” Raven asked, making sure you hadn’t just transferred his hypnotism onto yourself, but she knew you were out of it for…other reasons.
“Fine. I’m fine.” You reassured yourself, mostly. “Let’s just kick his ass and get out of here. It’s been a long day.”
“Right. Titans, Go!” Robin directed the team onwards and you did your best to put the last few minutes behind you, but you knew that was going to be easier said than done…
***
When the six of you finally got back to the tower, movie night commenced as planned, although your beach day had been sacrificed in the name of crime-fighting. As there were only a few spots left on the couch, Gar had plopped down next to you, which immediately set off your fight or flight instinct.
“I’m…gonnagomakepopcornberightback!” You blurted before bolting to the kitchen to put a bag of it in the microwave. Once it was in and spinning around, the machine humming quietly, you stood there, collecting yourself. You were a superhero. You weren’t supposed to feel like this about something as stupid as a crush.
Wait a second, back up. Crush? Did you have a crush on Garfield? Garfield? Garfield as in your green teammate Garfield? Garfield as in the one who’d tracked mud across your newly mopped floor Garfield? Garfield, the same Garfield who never took out the trash when it was his turn and always left his dishes in the sink instead of the dishwasher? That Garfield?
He kissed you back, didn’t he? Maybe he liked you. And…maybe…you liked him back?
God! What were you thinking?! No! You couldn’t like Garfield! Never! Not in a million years!
But…mulling it over further…it wasn’t like he was a bad looking guy. In fact, he was actually kind of cute. Maybe more than cute. With that boyish grin and his adorable fangs, his cute little laugh. Was he a little messy? Sure, but he’d always stood up for you, even when you had been new to the team. He always went out of his way to make you feel like you belonged.
The microwave beeping pulled you out of your thoughts and back into reality. You shook your head, inhaling a deep breath. Madness. Nonsense. You were overthinking things. He knew that your powers were tricky sometimes. He knew that it was nothing personal. Right?
“Hey…” A careful voice spoke up behind you and you turned around to look at him. “Can we, uh, talk? About what…happened earlier?”
“S-sure. What’s up?” You set the popcorn bowl on the counter and crossed your arms, leaning back against it. Super casual. Nailed it.
“Well, I just…thank you, first of all. Victor told me you kind of saved my ass.”
“Just doing my job.”
“Heh, yeah.” He scratched the back of his neck, his cheeks going pink. “When I…well, when I kissed you back…listen, (Y/N) I didn’t think it was any secret I liked you…”
Well, this was not the conversation you were expecting to have today…Earlier, you’d imagined the green boy teasing you for all of eternity. Hey, (Y/N) remember that time you kissed me haha omg XD. This little confession unfolding in front of you was…different…
“You…”
“You don’t have to say anything. Really, it’s okay.” He chuckled to himself and shook his head. “I just…I’m really sorry.”
“Why are you sorry?” You asked quietly. You blessed the fates above for giving you the courage to take one teeny little step forward.
“The last thing I wanted was to make things weird between us.” He sighed. “But obviously I did, so…”
“Why me?”
“Why you?” He laughed. “Are you kidding? You have magic powers, you can fly, you’re literally a badass, but at the same time, you’re funny and sweet and pretty…Any guy, girl, or otherwise would be lucky to date you.”
“Gar, if we’re being honest, I…didn’t know I had a crush on you until today. But…I definitely do, and I definitely have for a while.”
He perked up a little, green eyes sparkling with boyish innocence. “For real?”
“Yeah, for real.” You took another little baby step forward. “So…”
“So…”
“Would you two just shut up and kiss already?! We’re TRYING to watch the MOVIE!” Cyborg hollered from the couch.
Your cheeks flushed red and you giggled, surrendering your blushing face to the security of Garfield’s toned chest. He wrapped his arms around you, gently kissing your temple. You could feel him smiling against you, his hands tracing patterns on your arms and back.
“Don’t worry, baby. We’ve got all the time in the world for kissing.” Gar kissed your forehead again.
“Well, I never thought I’d say it, but…thank God for Mad Mod…”
He laughed. “You’re telling me.”

‘Now you have a piece of beauty in the world that’s just for you’
Bucky looked at the note in his hand, his eyebrows furrowed as he read it over and over again. There you were giving him another act of kindness that he didn’t deserve.
He’d walked into his room last night after a workout and found the small box on his bed, the note placed on top of it. Inside was a small, contraption. Bucky wasn’t quite sure what it was, he moved it in his hands, trying to find an on switch and when he did the small projector started up with a small whirl. The familiar show began on his ceiling as he placed the projector on his desk and watched it for a few minutes before he sat on his bed and read your note.
It had been a week now since you had shown the veterans their fireworks simulation. Sam had pestered you for days to make him his very own and so you decided to do just that one night when your mind wouldn’t shut down for the night. You decided it wasn’t fair that only Sam got his own and so made one for the other two men. Concealing them each in their own box and leaving them outside the bedrooms of Steve and Sam. Bucky’s though you wanted to make special.
You had a small crush on the super soldier, you couldn’t deny that I mean look at him, he’s gorgeous. It was more than that though, you had this need to make him feel welcome, included, to show him that the world isn’t all bad. It wasn’t out of pity and it definitely wasn’t because anyone asked (though Steve had thanked you the day after the simulation for showing Bucky you insisted it was the least you could do). People deserve kindness in their life and Bucky had gone a long time with none at all. So that’s why you wrote him a note, you thought that if it was personalized he had to accept it, if it was already in his room he couldn’t just leave it in the hallway. He could accept the gift without even speaking to you, without anyone knowing.
“Did you get one too?” Bucky stood in Steve’s room leaning against his desk while Steve lay on his bed, propped up on his elbow.
“I did, was a sweet gift, she said Sam had been pestering her for one so she decided to make one for all of us.” Steve looked up at his friend, he knew that look in his eye, he was looking for information. Bucky had always be cautious of your friendliness but Steve really thought he was past it since the fourth, however it seemed as if Bucky had been even more actively avoiding you and his caution of your gift seemed to fit the pattern.
“She didn’t leave anything else?” Steve shook his head telling Bucky no. He puffed out a breath of air, standing up from the desk and walking out of the room. Steve couldn’t help but laugh at the odd behaviour, finding it funny that his friend was so adamant you didn’t do anything for him without wanting something in return. A daft concept really.
You sat in your workshop cleaning one of your little helpers, that’s at least what you called them. In fact they were small robots, not much too them but they helped you with small tasks like getting into tight places of machinery and having someone to talk to while cooped up in the workshop for long hours on end. You hadn’t thought much about the gifts you’d given your friends, well, that’s not exactly true. You hadn’t stopped thinking about the one you gave to Bucky. You hoped this would finally be the thing to secure your friendship, you hoped he would finally just give you a chance and find that you aren’t that bad. Surely, you hoped, that if he thanked you at the very least that it was a step forward. He hadn’t, not yet.
Bucky stood outside the door to your workshop. He didn’t know what he wanted to say. ‘Thank you but I can’t accept this’ seemed like too little of an explanation. ‘I can’t accept this because you’re being nice to me out of pity’ seemed a bit rude. ‘Take it back. I can’t take it because every time your nice to me it terrifies me and I can’t fucking take it anymore!’ was far too on the nose. Surely it would come to him on the spot, that’s what he thought when he knocked on your door, walking into the room when he heard you answer.
You looked up to see Bucky standing there, fidgeting with the box you had given him. You smiled at him, offering him a seat which he silently took.
“What is that?” He nodded at the small robot who was singing softly and swaying on the table.
“His name is Hubert, he’s one of my helpers,” you laughed picking Hubert up and putting him into the cabinet which you had made home for your two main helpers, Hubert and Philip.
“Thank you miss!” Hubert saluted as you closed the door. Buck could only watch in awe, not knowing about the robots you kept around your workshop, he would have known if he hadn’t walked out of the room two months ago on a Sunday evening when you had run in excitedly holding something behind your back and asked for everyone’s attention. But that’s beside the point.
“How can I help you Bucky?” You turned, taking a seat back on the stool, “if it’s anything to do with your arm I am not the right person,” you laughed. Bucky sat there looking at the box in his hands.
“I can’t accept this,” he spoke softly, your heart dropped. Everything you did Bucky pushed away. You were almost used to it now and you’d almost given up being his friend countless times but you were determined to get him to at least know you instead of avoiding you completely.
“I just thought since you liked the simulation so much that you would like to have one for yourself,” he wouldn’t look at you, he couldn’t. He couldn’t see the disappointment on your face, it was bad enough hearing it in your voice, “I thought maybe it would make you happy, or at least brighten your day if it were going bad but -”
Bucky stood up from his seat running a hand through his hair, he finally looked up at you, but all you could see was anger when he threw the box onto the table.
“You always do that you know.” Bucky didn’t know where his anger was coming from, maybe it was at himself for not being able to process his emotions, maybe it was at you because you just wouldn’t give up. “You always say ‘you’ when you talk about it, its like you did it for me but you didn’t! So stop talking like you did!” You sunk into your seat as he yelled. There was no stopping Bucky once he started getting something off of his chest, “You constantly go around doing all these nice things for me, I don’t get it!” He rubbed his hands over his face, he wanted to believe that you didn’t feel sorry for him, that you liked him and that’s why you were so nice to him but he’d never given you a reason to. You must just feel sorry for him.
“Bucky you don’t-” he looked at you, his hand on the door handle.
“No! You don’t understand! You do all these nice things for me and you never ask for anything?! I get it, you feel sorry for me. I don’t need you rubbing it in my face that I’m a fucking monster.” He stopped yelling, his words cutting you like knives. You were trying so hard not to sob that you couldn’t answer him. He waited for you to say something but when you didn’t he stormed out straight to his room.
Bucky slammed the door shut causing the bookcase beside it to rattle. He huffed as he paced the room, knocking over a chair here and kicking a table leg there. He knew he should have gone with his first option. Make it up as he went?? What was he thinking! He knew he’d royally fucked up. You wouldn’t even want to look at him let alone be nice to him after that outburst. Bucky knew that wasn’t what he wanted.
You tried really hard not to take any of the side comments Bucky gave you to heart but it was a lot harder when they were being yelled straight at you. You wiped your eyes trying to calm your breathing. What was he thinking? What did he mean? He’s not a monster, you never wanted to make him feel like a monster, in fact you wanted the opposite effect. He didn’t even ask about your motivations. He didn’t even let you talk to him. The more you thought about how Bucky yelled at you the angrier you got, he swooped in like it was nothing and then just started yelling at you? That made you angry, that made you really angry and a little confused to be honest.
Bucky sat at the foot of his bed with his head in his hands. He ran through his head all of the nice gestures you’d given him over the last few months that you’d probably never do again. How there was always fresh coffee made when he and Steve got back from their morning run and you sat in the common room eating breakfast like it was nothing. How you always turned down the TV when he walked into the lounge after he’d had a sleepless night. How you always made room for him on movie night to sit on the couch but he always sat on the floor on the other side of the room. You always made him feel included and thought of and in return all he did was ignore you and then yell at you.
“‘M such a fucking idiot.” He shook his head. An aggressive knock came from his door and Bucky’s head shot up, he didn’t even have enough time to stand before you barged in. Bucky opened his mouth to speak, to apologise but you were too fast.
“Listen the fuck up Bucky, you yelled at me and now it’s my turn okay!” You decided that if you were going to get anything out he couldn’t talk back, and you couldn’t bear to look at him so you paced up and down the room instead, “You’ve been a right dick to me ever since I came here and you know what? I forgive you for that, I get it, weary of the newbie sort of thing whatever.” Your hands moved frantically in front of you, “BUT I have tried being nice, I have tried showing you that I’m not a threat and what do you do in response?! You get angry at me for a harmless gift, one that I didn’t just make for you by the way! Sam and Steve got one too!” You were running out of steam, Bucky had stood from his bed slowly making his way to you.
“I know.”
“You wanna know why I’m so nice to you?” You placed your hands on Bucky’s biceps, squeezing them he looked up. “Because everyone deserves kindness in their life and you have had none for so long and that is so fucking unfair.”
Bucky let out a shaky breath, his hands holding your hips fearing if he let go he’d fall. His eyes were squeezed shut.
“I don’t deserve your kindness.” You gaped at him, eyes wide, was that what this was?
“You don’t hate me do you?” you stepped forward your arms sliding up to hold his cheeks. Bucky shook his head, eyes still closed.
“Do you even know what I’ve done?” You pulled his head up to look at you, he opened his eyes to find you already looking at him with a small smile on your face.
“Do you mean conveniently being in Tony’s lab when he’s testing new tech? Or constantly saving your best friend’s life?” Bucky smiled shyly at your answer, he had thought he’d gone unnoticed in Tony’s lab, pretending to need a bench to fix a part of his motorbike but actually fascinated by Tony’s technology.
“You know what I mean, I’m a monster.” He squeezed your hips his mouth in a tight line and his eyes searching your face.
“Oh I see what the problem is,” you smiled up at him, fingers brushing over the scruff on his cheeks, “you’re having an identity crisis. See I’m talking about James Barnes, the man who always makes sure the people around him have eaten, not the Winter Soldier. I don’t know the Winter Soldier Bucky, I just know you. My kindness is just for you because it’s what I believe you deserve.” You were chest to chest now, foreheads pressed against each other and each sentence was quieter than the one before.
“You absolutely terrify me,” Bucky scrunched the fabric around your waist looking down at your lips. His nose brushed against yours, his breath warm against your face.
“I just wanted you to know there’s kindness in the world, I didn’t mean to scare you.” You rested your hands on his chest but the distance between you grew smaller. Bucky wanted you as close as humanly possible he wrapped his arms further around your back pulling you right into his chest, he nuzzled his face into your neck as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders.
“I’m sorry I yelled at you,” he whispered into your hair squeezing you tighter and letting out a shaky sigh, “thank you for the gift, and everything else.” It felt good to finally accept everything you’d done for him. It felt even better to hold you close against him. “Please don’t stop,” he whispered, desperate for you to stay in his life.
“Never.” If you weren’t so focused on not kissing Bucky you would have been able to process his thank you. If Bucky weren’t so focused on not kissing you he would have noticed the high-fives and ‘I fucking knew they liked each other’ and ‘I don’t owe you anything we don’t know what’s going on in there’ coming from outside. But he much preferred to pay attention to how goddamn good it felt to hold you and the prospect that maybe you could share more moments like this in the future. Maybe he did deserve your kindness after all.

This is part 2 of the original story which is on wattpad under the username "agustD_1013". Part two contains chapter 6-10
--------------------------------------------------
Part 2
Y/N woke up as usual the next day and went to school. But today was strange, all the students were giggling as they watched her, and unlike the other days, Bambam, Jackson and Mark did not wait for her at the school gate. She decided to confront the three at lunchtime as she was getting late for her class.
As she entered the classroom she walked over to her desk, seeing all sorts of things scribbled on it. She just shook these things off her mind as she was more concerned about the other three. Half of the day passed by and everybody rushed to the cafeteria. She was not ready for it, she was not ready to confront them. All sorts of questions were wandering her mind;
What if the video was real? What if they did say those things about me?
No one was in the corridor, she assumed that they probably went out to eat, half the school doesn't even eat in the cafeteria. As she was walking in the corridor she saw pictures of her everywhere with rude things about her. Her doubts were turning into reality. It couldn't be a coincidence that the three didn't wait for her at the gate as they usually did, her desk scribbled with rubbish about her, and all these pictures with all sorts of blunt comments about her.
But when she opened the door to the cafeteria, she saw that the whole school was there. But that was not the problem now. She wandered her eyes until she let it land on Mark, Bambam and Jackson's table, but they were with her brother and their friends. Since when did they become friends with them. She was walking past all the tables to reach Mark, Bambam, and Jackson's table. Everybody was giggling at her, and shooting death glares. It made her feel uncomfortable talking to the three in front of them but she had built up all the courage in herself to go up to them. She brought out her mobile showing them the video blackpink had shown her before.
"This is not true, you never said those things about me, did you?" She asked, emotionally broken.
The entire cafeteria was quiet now, watching the drama they have been waiting for all along.
BTS & GOT7 let out small chuckles till Mark spoke up
"Well to me it doesn't look edited, so what do you think?"
"Why? Why would you do this to me? I trusted you guys, I thought you would never leave me" she asked emotionlessly.
"It's so sad that a worthless piece of shit like you fell for guys like us. Just saying but no one will ever love you, you're just a waste of space" Mark continued.
This was it, the moment everybody was waiting for. Everybody started laughing, including her brothers and the three.
Jackson stood up looking straight into her eyes opening his mouth to speak up
"It's your fault for trusting us. Just a little advice: don't trust anybody with that past of yours. You should research about somebody before trusting them, should've done that with us just like we did to you. Oh yeah you asked why right? Well I have two reasons; one because of what you have done to your family and how much you made them suffer, and two this is what we do; make girls fall for us and then break their hearts".
" Jackson, what are you telling her about pettiness. After what she has done to them do you think she can walk around proudly like she matters. Of course not but yet she does, that means she doesn't even have the slightest regret for making them suffer" Bambam said.
" Well we have a surprise for you" they said.
Y/N who now had her head hung low in misery, lifted her head up slowly with sorrow in her eyes. You could see the betrayal in them.
All the lights of the cafeteria went off and the projector started playing.
It was a video of Y/N, all her secrets which she shared with three that she trusted. Those secrets that were worth her life for her. It was not just that, but it was a hate video towards her. All rude comments, all those pictures that were taken of her when she was beaten up or spilled food on. They were all there. Y/N had never felt this humiliated in her life.
When the video ended she was just standing there shocked and ashamed. But this was not the end Suga came up to her and continued talking
"You should thank all of us for giving you a little break, and be ready now because it's ended".
Suddenly Bambam added to that "And this time it's not just them but also us"
She felt herself getting beaten up, but couldn't feel anything due to the numbness already in her body. Y/N just let it happen.
(Y/N p.o.v)
I felt myself getting severely beaten up. I let it happen. What was I thinking about those three, actually liking me. I should have known from the beginning that they're all liars. But they are right, why would anybody like someone like me?
(Narrator)
But after some while instead of warm stings of the beatings she felt herself being drenched in cold liquid; milk. All the students surrounding her threw all of their lunch at her. She could see IU from the corner of her eyes just staring at her emotionally. IU wasn't the one to beat her that often yet she hated her. Y/N believed this was the end of her.
(IU p.o.v)
I was just staring at how the school kids, BTS, and GOT7 were beating and throwing stuff at Y/N. Even though I'm her sister I never felt sorry for her. After all she has done, she deserves this. I was looking at how she was treated and I started crying. It's her fault she's being treated like this.
She couldn't take it anymore; all this humiliation was killing her. Her meaning came into her life in ten seconds but left in one.
She pushed past all the students to go home. Instead of doing what she usually would; to cry, she took a shower first and settled all her thoughts down. But she couldn't let her past keep on effecting her, she was pictured for something she didn't do.
(Y/N p.o.v)
The abuse and lies were killing me. I am framed for something I didn't do. I never did any of those things. Only if somebody understood me. Only if someone would listen to me. But I guess no one was sent down to help me.
(Narrator)
It all started 6 years ago. That time Y/N was 11 years old. She used to go to dance, and so one day when her mom picked her up from her dance class they were walking home happily; in fact, the happiest they had ever been. But suddenly a group of men came up to them and started beating her mom.
Y/N tried with all her will to stop them; she was crying for help but her cries were too low to be heard. Not only that but one guy was holding her down and he was too strong for her. One of the guys suddenly took out a knife and stabbed her mom three times.
All those men just left her and her dead mom there. She was a crying mess. Then she was just an eleven-year-old, she didn't know what to do.
She crawled to where her mom was lying and picked up the knife, and that's when people started appearing with the police and interviewers. It was like time had stopped to wait for the moment to capture the innocent.
Her mom's body was taken to the hospital and the next day she made the headlines;
"11-year-old the murderer of her mom".
It was all false accusations against her, and that time she had no evidence that it was not her. Even her own family believed it but when she was arrested she was released out of jail by her family, to save their pride.
Directly after that her family wanted to disown her but she was too young so they sent her to a mental hospital. After spending good two abusing years there, she was met with more abuse from her family and the students at school.
(Y/N p.o.v)
Till today I remember that day. It was never me who killed mom, it was those three men. Nobody believes me. But why? Why do they think I would ever kill her? Because of that incident till today I suffer 6 years of suffering and abuse
When can this stop? It was like time had stopped to frame the innocent, but why me? The only thing I remember from that time is one man talking on the phone; they were contract killers and the name Ailee. But I have no evidence to prove the truth. I think this is the end of me.
"Mom why couldn't you take me with you?"
"There is no use of being alive anymore"
"There's nothing to live for"
"I wish I was the one who died,that night"
Y/N recalled from her past, maybe it was her fault that her mother died. It was tomorrow that her life started; tomorrow was her birthday. She decided that tomorrow she was going to fix all the problems.
Instead of going to bed early today, she stayed up researching her mom's case. She wanted to bring justice to her mom and herself, knowing that there wouldn't be many articles about the truth. Half an hour had passed when she remembered something; hearing the name Ailee. She remembers her dad having a friend named Ailee from when she was young.
(Y/N P.O.V)
After searching for half an hour on the internet I never found anything, that's when something lit up in my mind. I remember hearing the name Ailee. After I think about it I also remember dad having a friend named Ailee. And Rosé's mom, isn't she also called Ailee. Could this name just be a coincidence or is she the same Ailee.
(Narrator)
That's when she found one article concerning the truth.
It listed only one witness that had heard the conversation between the men and the women on the other line when they were talking on the phone. The witness had stated that they were contract killers that they had killed the little girl's mom and not the little girl herself. She remembers hearing that the woman the guys were talking to was called Ailee. She overheard that the lady on the other line loved the victims husband a lot.
After reading that Y/N got all her conclusions correct. She opened a document and typed all her thoughts and conclusions that came matching. She printed it out and also the article from earlier.
(Y/N P.O.V)
I had finally found an article concerning the truth, so I clicked on it. I was just reading the article when tears started flowing down my face. I couldn't believe this, so all of it was true, it was not just me. But why didn't this witness stand up for the truth. She could've bought justice to mom. At least she said something to the media. Now I will bring justice to my mom.
(Narrator)
Y/N's dad has a secret hidden camera in every room to keep a track of what she does, but Y/N being the smart girl she is, she knows where all the cameras are hidden. Earlier she had already snuck into her dads' room and took the footage of her stepmom with another man. She put all her evaluations in an envelope with a note.
Now she could finally sleep in peace, knowing that tomorrow she was going to end all this hate.
Now she could finally sleep in peace, knowing that tomorrow she was going to end all this hate.
She woke up by the loud shouting of her family & the ambulance sirens when she rushed down she saw Rosé being carried into the ambulance, followed by the rest of her family, leaving her alone there. Y/N was very worried about her sister and today was the day anyways. So, she followed them to the hospital Instead of going to her sister she went to the doctor who was in charge of Rosé. She discussed some things with him, and he nodded sadly.
After her discussion she rushed to the bathroom with her pocketknife and did it one last time; cut herself again but this time she kept on sliding the blade over her arm till she lost consciousness, until everything went black for her. The doctors found her barely 15 minutes later and rushed her to the emergency.
Meanwhile Rosé was rushed to the emergency, she started getting a severe chest pain and they needed to find the donor within the day. GOT7 were also there including; Bambam, Jackson & Mark. They thought of Rosé as their own sister.
The doctors tried with all their will to save Y/N but were unfortunate. She had decided it that she was going to commit suicide on her birthday. She put an end to the problem the same date it started. Now she could join her mother in heaven, but she didn't die sinfully.
Rosé's doctor came rushing giving the grateful news;
"We've found a healthy donor, she will be saved & there's no need to stress out". After around five hours the operation was done and Rosé was saved.
Rosé woke up some hours after the operation. Her dad had asked the doctor for permission to know who the donor is.
"According to the donors will she did not want me to tell you. However, I believe you have the full right to know the person that saved your daughter's life, so follow me" he said. and with that the entire family and friends followed him to the morgue room.
When the doctor slipped the white cloth of her face they were shocked and hurt, it was: Y/N. She committed suicide not just to end the pain but save her sister from dying, that too on the day she was born. Everybody was speechless, they were suddenly feeling guilty for their actions, but it was too late. The silence was broken by the cries of Rosé. Bambam, Mark & Jackson all felt guilty for how they humiliated her thinking this was all their fault. Her dad, BTS, IU, and the rest of GOT7 were in the same situation as them. Nobody had anything to say, so they left the room to not feel more hurt.
As Rosé was very healthy she was discharged in two days. Her family was there with her the entire time. When they reached home everybody was silent, except for Ailee. For her it was like nothing even happened. They decided to all help clean Y/N's bedroom. But when they entered it they saw how old it was, how dusty it was, and how it had stains everywhere. But Rosé's eyes fell on the envelope, which they all opened together. After they saw all the evaluation and whatever she wrote they were broken into pieces. Ailee was Y/N's stepmom who used to love Y/N's dad way too much, but her dad didn't think of her in the same way. They were just friends back then. So, she assigned contract killers to murder her mom so that her dad will start falling for her. Which she accomplished in. After years of trying she gained the love she wanted but soon noticed that this love was not for her dad but the company. Her second plan was to murder her dad too so that the company will be on her name. And get remarried to the dude that Y/N saw with the other day. They picked out the USB and watched through it; seeing Ailee making out with another man. The evidence was in that too. Suga finally took out the note and read it aloud
"Start of new and please bring justice to us"
They were all heartbroken. This was so deceiving, having blamed an own family member. The relation between them all which was supposed to be built on trust was broken. Because of the media and their hurtful words, they crushed the once cheerful girl. Was their relation so faint that they couldn't believe her even once? That they chose the media's lies over her truth?
Instead of going to Ailee to ask her what this is, they immediately called the police and showed them proof which led Ailee to be arrested. Rosé felt very hurt that her mother could do such a thing.
The news spread quickly over the whole country. Everybody at school felt ashamed, nearly everybody in town felt ashamed and guilty. The girl they've been portraying as a murderer since she was little, was innocent all along. It was all their fault that she's ended up like this. And now when all is gone, when it's too late they feel guilty. The only thing they could do for her was be available for her funeral which was held after 3 days.
Everybody was there, everybody cried, they were all ashamed, and everybody was guilty. They stared at her gravestone;
"In memorial of Y/N, born 13 November 2002, died 13 November 2019"
They lived the rest of their lives in regret.

Fleeting Worlds - Destiny’s Gravity Part Two
A/N: This is not edited, so apologies if the grammar makes you cringe. This is also the last piece to this world. If anyone is interested in running along with this idea, please let me know.
Summary: Ochako wakes up in a dingy bar, the League of Villains are facing her down, and Bakugo is restrained in a chair to her left. More concerning, Shigaraki has placed a “no harm” rule for her.
Part One
Tumblr media
The transition went a little nicer than her last couple of trips through Kurogiri’s warp gates. Unlike before, she wasn’t dropped unceremoniously into the new place.
Instead she found herself almost placed down, as the distance from the warp gate to the floor, felt more so like she’d merely jumped up in one spot and landed down in another.
This didn’t diminish the sense of panic that surged through her mind.
She doubted anything, save for a quick acting drug, could calm the rapid fire rate of her heart beat.
Her first impression was that they’d moved to a hospital room that belongs in a horror movie.
The only available light was being emitted from a collection of screens mounted into the right wall. A normal screen projected blue/white light, instead these screens were showing everything in green.
This gave the massive reclining bed, and all the medical machines a foreboding shadowed effect.
Goosebumps rippled over Ochako’s skin when she noticed exactly what was on the screens.
It was her, at different times of her life.
One screen showed her stumbling along as a toddler towards her parents.
Another showed her making her stuffed animals float, and promptly throwing up and beginning to cry.
And one showed her back in the bar from a few minutes ago, replaying the fight she’d just struggled through for nothing.
‘What the hell is all this? Why have they been watching me?!’
“Ochako Uraraka. It’s so nice to finally see you again.”
Proper overhead lighting kicked in, forcing Ochako to squint against the harsh, white LED brightness.
When her eyes adjusted, she felt her mouth go dry and fought against the need to flee.
Standing in front of her was a monster.
They stood 10 feet apart, and she still had to crane her neck back in order to look up to where his face was. He was dressed in a black, tailored suit that showed his frame to be solid.  That plus the helmet contraption on his head would have sent Kaminari and Mina into jokes about Darth Vader.
Only they weren’t standing in his presence, and feeling something brush against their nerve endings with warnings of absolute danger.
Ochako doubted anyone had made a joke about this man, and seen the next sunrise.
“Wh-who are you?” Her voice was a pathetic croak to her own ears, but then she wasn’t making any shows of bravery here.
Hands that could cover the entirety of her face spread outwards in a welcoming gesture, “I have long since abandoned my given name, my dear girl. You may address me as All For One.”
He took a couple steps closer, and only the hand at the back of her neck holding her in place kept her from moving further away, “My how much you’ve grown over the years.”
“Y-you’re speaking as if you know me.”
“Because I do, dear Ochako. I’ve known you since the day you were created. Such a tiny thing you were as a baby.” All For One turned on his heel, and made a sweeping motion towards the wall behind him.
The room was more technologically advanced than she’d assumed, as the gesture activated a projector she couldn’t see. A screen illuminated the entirety of the wall, bringing up a silent video of a small infant crying in the arms of a doctor.
Her parents had shown her the pictures they had of her as a baby, and even the twist to her gut told her that this was video footage of herself.
Scanning over the video, she located the face of the woman laying on the hospital bed, “That’s not my mother.”
All For One lifted his hand, causing the video to pause, “Oh? You don’t see the resemblance?”
With a wave, the video was rewound and zoomed in on the woman. Whatever system was in control, took the liberty of cleaning the image so there were no distortions. Which made the woman’s face perfectly clear.
Rounded cheeks, circular shaped eyes, and hair that was nearly identical in shade to her own.
All For One snapped his fingers, and the woman’s face was cropped into a standing rectangle. The rest of the clip was removed, and next to the woman’s face were pictures of her parents, and her.
Her dad had circular eyes, and her mom had the same hair color as her. But seeing them compared to this woman, those little resemblances weren’t adding up to the whole, not like how the woman did.
Her confusion was a snake in her stomach, slithering around her insides as it coiled, ready to strike.
Shigaraki removed his hand from the neck, and stood back, having seen a sheen of sweat begin to form on her skin as it paled. Recluse that he was, even he knew the signs of someone that looked about ready to heave their contents.
All For One strode over to the wall and placed his hand on the cheek of the unknown woman. His thumb moved in a circular motion, as though he could stroke her cheek, “Subject 453: Himeno Yua. She was one of my favorites to work with. She knew the risks of the experiment, but was determined to see it through. I’d like to think you inherited that determination from her, seeing as she had no quirk to pass along. It was such a waste that she didn’t survive.”
Another snap of his fingers, and the pictures went away, to be replaced by a video.
The doctor carried the baby over to Yua. She smiled, and lifted a sluggish hand to touch the baby’s face. The audio on the video was thin, making it hard to hear her, “She’s perfect. I’m...so glad….I could do this...for him.” Her eyes fluttered, her hand slid from the baby’s face and the heart monitors attached to Yua flat lined.
The video feed cut as the doctor hurriedly handed the baby to a nurse and set about trying to resuscitate Yua.
Ochako tried to swallow, and found no moisture in her mouth to do so.
She couldn’t tear her eyes from Yua’s pale, motionless face, “I don’t understand what you’re trying to tell me. So just spit it out.” The hard edge she’d put to her words couldn’t be heard, as she’d barely gotten them out in a whisper.
All For One moved away from the wall and walked over to her.
With slow, deliberate motions, he placed a hand on her shoulder. Ochako refused to look up into his disfigured face.
“Very well, if it will remove this cloud of denial you’re keeping your head in.”
His hand’s grip on her shoulder gave what he must have thought as a comforting squeeze, “Himeno Yua was your mother, and I, being the sperm donor, am your father.”

A little while back @deadhermiteyes posted a lovely piece of Dick/Babs fan art she drew. (View it here! It really is lovely). And she happened to mention that she’d like it if someone would write something based off of it. Which, in turn, kick-started my writing brain and I was inspired to write this piece.
A couple of quick notes… The artist captioned her picture with the line: “We used to leave the galas and come here all the time when we were kids, Dick. They’re gonna find us!” I have included it in the story (with a minor edit). All credit for that line goes to her.
Also, she mentioned wanting something angsty, so there is angst.
[Read on ao3]
Enjoy…
Moving On
The gala was in full swing. Photo ops had been snapped and sound bites gathered. The charity had been praised—a foundation supporting adult literacy programs—and the family thanked for their continuing support. Especially in these trying times.... The evening had marched on at a maddening slow pace until Dick didn’t think he could stand another moment of this farce. Then, as it had always been the case since he was a child, there was a moment when the crowd ceased to pay attention to him and he might as well have been invisible. Taking advantage of this lapse of attention, Dick slipped away from the gala and made good his escape. He had a few minutes before he would be missed.
Leaving the party behind, Dick made his way to the roof. The access door shut behind him on groaning hinges, leaving him alone in the blissful silence of the rooftop garden. Listlessly he meandered along the path which wound in and out of various garden patches, while his thoughts wandered a less steady way.
They had convinced him to come tonight. They had told him it was time, that this was important, but the gala had been too much. Too many people with too many questions. He had to get away. Even if it was only for a moment. Closing his eyes, he breathed deeply and took in the cool night air heavy with the promise of rain. This he missed.
From this perspective, high over the city, Dick felt more at home than he did when he was on the ground below, mingling with people he scarcely knew. Playing a role and moving on. He hated that phrase. That was all anyone said to him anymore.
Dick sat along the low retaining wall, confident he would not fall despite being six stories above the ground. Shrugging out of his jacket and loosening his tie, he abandoned both on the ledge beside him. They were strangling him. He could barely breathe as it was. He needed...he needed her.
It had been too long since he’d taken to the rooftops. He couldn’t, not anymore. It would be foolish, irresponsible. He wouldn’t.
Still, Dick could taste the freedom which leaping off rooftops and gliding through the air had always granted him before. It had been too long since he felt like the “daring young man on the flying trapeze.” Oh, how she used to tease him.
Shaking his head as though it were possible to clear his brain of the unwanted thoughts. Too many memories clung to his shoulders —clipped his wings and pinioned him to the ground. The wind bit through the thin silk of his shirt and ruffled his hair. Tomorrow, he told himself, I’ll go back on the trapeze tomorrow. From there, maybe things would look brighter. It had helped in the past. He just needed this tonight.
Retrieving the device from his jacket pocket, Dick turned it over and over again in his hands. He shouldn’t be doing this. He promised....
With a click, Dick turned on the device, set it on the ledge and waited.
“Dick? Are you up here?” Babs’ voice rang through the otherwise silent night. It was too close, while at the same time being far too distant.
Hesitating for only a moment, Dick pushed himself to his feet and stood as still as stone. He shouldn’t be doing this. He shouldn’t be here. He needed to stop living in the past.
“Dick, where are you? This isn’t funny.” Despite the rebuke in her words, there was amusement in her voice.
He didn’t rush to her as had once been his custom. Instead he stayed his mark. If he wanted this, he needed to stay here. To endure the wait, Dick closed his eyes and breathed deeply. No matter what he tried, he couldn’t quite fill his lungs.
“There you are, Hunk Wonder,” Babs called as she rounded the corner of the path. Her movements were slow and a bit awkward. After the experimental spinal surgery started to fail, she had good days and bad ones. More often than not, she spent most of her time in her wheelchair than not. But, for this occasion, she’d felt up to walking.
“Yeah, here I am.” His voice almost sounded normal. Not that she would notice one way or the other.
Dick opened his eyes and openly stared at Babs, drinking in every detail. Her smile lit up her face and a teasing glimmer sparked in her green eyes. At the sight of her, his heart raced in his chest. His expression softened and his lips curled into a smile. This...he needed this.
Her eyes. They sparked with more excitement than they usually did when they met for these secret assignations. “I’ve been looking all over for you.”
Dick grinned. “I needed to get away for a moment.”
“I know. Me too. No matter how many times we do this, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to all this hobnobbing.” The breeze caught at her hair as she pulled out the pins and allowed the long locks to tumble about her shoulders. The loose braid which had formally accented the updo was quickly lost amid the red curls. She massaged her temples and exhaled a sigh of relief. “That feels better.”
He wanted to run his fingers through her hair, but held back.
Taking a step closer, she shivered and ran a hand over her bare arms. “It’s getting too cold for rooftop meetings.”
“But the view is gorgeous.” His gaze followed the deep v neckline of her dark charcoal dress.
A rosy flush coloured her pale cheeks as she followed the progression of his hungry gaze.  “Dick, not here. We used to leave the galas and come here all the time when we were kids. They’re gonna find us!”
“We have a few minutes before anyone will miss us,” he mumbled. Spinning her around so her back pressed against his front, Dick wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close, interlacing their fingers. The pose wasn’t as easy or as comfortable, as it had once been. His left arm traced down the length of hers until he captured her hand in his. He tried ignore the missing cool metal of her wedding band. Babs giggled, the joy effusing every ounce of her being.
“The gardens look lovely. You did a great job.” Though he was trying to distract her from the cold and the thoughts of discovery, Dick truly meant the compliment. Babs had helped create this little haven of green in their city. Each of the half dozen or so plots contained a different colorful and fragrant offering.
Never one to forget the hardships of the No Mans Land quarantine, Babs had insisted they include vegetables among the gardens. There were tomatoes and peppers. Heads of lettuce and kale. Zucchini vines snaked their way through the neat rows.
Not far from where he stood now, a small patch of wild flowers grew nearby, offering a colorful bounty of flowers. A trio of beehives nestled among the daisies, clovers, and a myriad of other flowers he couldn’t name. The bee were quiet in the deepening night, though in the morning the buzz of an active hive would begin anew.
Closing his eyes, he dipped his head and tried to prolong the moment. Breathing deeply, he inhaled rose and lavender. The scent he loved—the one he longed for—was missing. Long gone was the subtle, sweet scent of vanilla. Babs had once admitted she preferred a perfume with a touch of vanilla. It reminded her of the old books she loved. She’d explained the chemistry—as the paper broke down, it carried the scent of vanillin. Her passion for books was one of the many things he loved about her. He could not count the number...
“Dick,” Babs’ voice interrupted his runaway thoughts. “I’ve got something to tell you.”
“Mmhmm,” Dick managed to choke around the lump in his throat, no longer able to pretend everything was okay. No longer able to stick to the script. Babs continued as though he had never missed his cue. He opened his eyes to see her face, needing to see it one more time.
Who was he kidding? Once more would never be enough. Her green eyes are bright with all the potential of bright tomorrows. She flickered in his arms.
“Dick...”
The access door creaked, breaking the moment before she could share the news.
“Daddy? Are you up here?”
Dick started. The image of Babs flickered again as he stumbled back and scrambled for the projector from its place on the ledge. He flicked it off, leaving him once again alone.
“Annie, I’m back here.” Dick dabbed at his eyes with his handkerchief, though he couldn’t hide the red. He didn’t mind if his daughter saw the telltale signs of his tears. After all, It’s okay to cry, had become a near mantra around their home since Babs’ death six months ago. Over that span of time he had cried enough to fill the oceans of the world several times over.
No, he didn’t mind if she found him crying. Rather the problem was that once she located him, his time alone would be over. They would need to rejoin the gala. Once more he would be subject to the pitying glances, the uncomfortable silences, and—God forbid—the empty condolences. People were beginning to move from the ‘I understand, take all the time you need’ to the ‘Why aren’t you over this yet?’.
Their extended family was better, but none of them knew how to help Dick and his children grieve. They couldn’t adopt the family’s usual method for dealing with loss. Cancer left no enemies to beat up. No mystery to solve, no justice to enact. Death’s revolving door stayed firmly shut this time. He was no Orpheus able to charm open the gates of Hades.
Annie found him exactly where he had stood. She clutched a book in her hands, grasping the spine until her knuckles turned white. Allowing her to bring a book was the only way he could get her to come. Behind her glasses, wide, lost eyes searched the gardens. She ran the last few feet to him and threw her arms around his waist in an embrace. With her face pressed into his shirt, it was hard to hear her amid the muffled sniffles. “I was scared when I couldn’t find you. I thought I lost you too.”
“I’m sorry sweetheart.” Dick gathered his daughter in his arms and held her to his chest. It hurt to look at her. She was so much like her mother with her bright red hair and the liberal sprinkling of freckles. Annie had his eyes—the shape and colour—but he always thought they shone with the same bright curiosity which had been Babs’. Before his legs gave way, Dick sank down to the ledge and resisted the urge to break down in sobs. He needed to be strong for her.
When Annie’s sniffling ceased, Dick relaxed his embrace. Annie slipped out of his arms. A Grayson through and through, his ten year old daughter showed no fear as she sat on the ledge beside him. Her leg bounced in an unsteady rhythm. Resting her head against his arm, they sat in silence listening for the hum of the traffic below.
“Where’s Henry?” Breaking the silence, Dick asked after her twin brother, the two were scarcely seen without the other. He slipped his jacket back on, but left off the tie.
Between all his siblings, Steph, Alfred, Bruce, and Jim—Dick and Babs had never worried about their children at events like these. With the training ingrained into each of them from their nights working together to keep Gotham safe, his family watched over his children. It was almost uncanny how the children passed from one set of watchful eyes to another without the explicit need to organize the process. But, like everything since Babs had died, that too seemed broken. She had held their little world together. When they had Oracle’s all seeing gaze watching their backs, the extended family’s self-appointed mission felt a little bit safer, a little more possible. Now, the Clocktower was empty, the Oracle was silenced.
A sob hitched in his chest. He pulled Annie close and held her tight.
Annie shrugged. “There’s too many people here, so he left with Aunt Cass. Grandpa Bruce knows...”
“You didn’t want to go with them?” He tried to keep his voice light. He didn’t care if she attended the party or not, just that she was safe.
“I wanted to find you first.” She worried her bottom lip. Silently she ticked off each member of their extended family on her fingers as she mentally recalled their locations.
Dick’s heart ached. His bold, vivacious children had turned quiet, never straying far from each other or family. Annie needed to know where everyone was at all times and Henry couldn’t stand crowds. If they hadn’t inherited Babs’ brilliance, there had been rumblings of holding them back a year in school. Dick was all they had now. He couldn’t be risking his life on a nightly basis. He couldn’t leave them orphans.
Annie picked up the projector and turned it over in her hands. “Is this Mama’s...?”
“Yes,” Dick plucked the device out of her hands. His fingers hovered over the switch. From diagnosis to her death, it had been nearly a year. It was all too short a time, but Babs had never given up hope. Even in her last pain filled days, Babs had never stopped trying to find ways to take care of them all. Trying to extend her reach beyond her passing.
In the time she had left, she and Dick had created the projector. Adapting her training room technology, they had created a way to record memories and play them back in lifelike vignettes. They had started with her memories, then his. It was all they had time for, before it was too late. He was suppose to continue adding stories—and the twins’, and her father’s, Bruce’s, his siblings’, her teams’, everyone whose lives she had touched. There had been so many. Once the collected stories were gathered and woven together, they would have a comprehensive record of Babs’ life.
“I miss Mama.” Annie ran her fingers along the spine of her book. It was the last book Babs had given their daughter. Though Annie carried it with her everywhere, she had yet to read it.
“Would you like to see what I was watching?” It was time to share this memory.
She nodded.
Dick flipped the switch. The image flickered to life (a sick feeling twisted in his stomach at that turn of phrase) and paused where he had left the scenario. This simulacrum of Dick and Babs were so young. Even his daughter noticed the difference. She ran a hand through her dad’s hair, now liberally streaked with grey. He no longer tried to hide the passage of time. Pressing the button again, the memory played from where he left off.
“Dick,” The memory-Babs repeated his name, making certain she had his attention. Their eyes locked and the love was unmistakable. Eager and hopeful. Even back then, he already knew what she was going to say. How could he not? Babs took one last deep breath, before announcing her news with a radiant smile. “I’m pregnant.”
The smile on Dick’s face was as brilliant as the sun. He swooped Babs up in his arms and spun her. When at last he set down his wife, he kept a steadying arm around her waist. Lightly pressing his free hand to her stomach, he leaned in and kissed her.
In the present, Dick allowed the image to linger for a moment before turning off the projector. Tears ran down Annie’s cheeks at the sight of her mama alive and vibrant.
“That’s the night we learned about you and your brother,” Dick murmured into his daughter’s hair, holding her close.
“I wish...I wish she could come back to us,” Annie whispered. “I miss her so much.”
“So do I sweetheart. So do I.” Dick closed his eyes and breathed in the night. The subtle scent of vanilla was missing. Their world would never be the same. And it wasn’t meant to be. They would go on, somehow. He couldn’t see the way— yet—but he knew they would find it. Together.

From Enemies to Friends
CHAPTER TWO
Author’s Note : All of this is ENTIRELY NON-CANON. I’m still working on my writing skills. Thank You and Enjoy, hopefully.
It was late at the dark, gloomy night. Most residents are deep into their dream wonderland. Some are doing their shady businesses. Unfortunately for the hidden residents of Inkopolis, there were no rest for them.
Multiple alarms blasted out in the massive fortress located deep in the forest of Mount Nantai. Most of the people emerged from their slumber quickly and get dressed before waking up those who are a deep sleeper. After they geared up, they immediately rushed to the nearest kettle in order.
Nicholas, who had just walked through the gate door of the main entrance, heard the alarm and, with a little bit of hesitation, dropped everything he was holding as he rush straight to the emergency kettle at the corner of the front garden wall, where it was hidden by flower bushes. He changed into his other form and swam right into it.
As soon as he emerged from another kettle, the place around him reveals to be an underground base. Full with equipments, gadgets, computers and weapons. He rarely went here ever since he became a co-guardian for his young master but he knew, for a fact, that this place is now chaotic.
Half of the night-shift people are typing away in their computers and tried to keep track on their task or rushing around, while another half of them seems to be missing, but it soon replaced by bunch of day-shift people fully suited up and lined up right in front of an old but fitted lady, who aged pretty well for a 130-years-old.
“Nicholas, just in time.” the old lady said in a firm authority, “Before we address the situation here, how’s my grandson?”
Fond murmurs were heard among the people before got silenced by the glare from the old lady. Nicholas sighed in bliss, “He’s fine, Mistress! He is still the pure boy who worried over small things.”
She nodded in acknowledgement, smiling a bit, before broadcast a image onto the huge projector screen in front of them. A crashed unidentified flying object. Half of the crowd gasped. “Isn’t that a failed prototype of Thunderstrike? Why is it here?!” Suzuki, another co-guardian of Erek, speaking her mind out in fear.
“Minale, come here and report on what the Scout Squad D had discovered, please.” the old lady said with simple directness. A three feet being, equipped with a large propeller helmet, zoomed right behind the crowd. “As you can see from the picture,” she started her report while landed on the table with grace, “a failed prototype military aircraft, Thunderstrike, crashed outside the city, with a corpse of a Mini Zapfish that was used to operated the aircraft. Bless its soul.”
“The Scout Squad D previously assumed that it was just a public test run from the underground Oct-”
“Wait,” Nick rudely interrupted Minale’s report, “what do you mean by ‘previously’?”
“It is where I’m trying to get to the point, Mr Nicholas!” she scoffed, “If I may continue, they thought it was just a test run until a power outage happen. It only last for approximately five minutes before the power came back.”
“Ten minutes before we activate the emergency alarms...” Minale continued along with a stressful sigh, broadcast the picture of Inkopolis Tower, “...the Great Zapfish is gone.”
This statement alerted the uneasy crowd as they scanned the picture. Indeed, the Great Zapfish is missing from its tower. The Mistress clapped lightly to gain their attention back to her. She nodded to the Scout captain who zoomed back to her post, giving out commands as she spoke to the microphone that wirelessly connected to the Scout Squad D.
“So far, the conclusion of the report is that Thunderstrike is merely a distraction tool in order to steal the Great Zapfish. Even though we all know that we got more than enough Zapfishes to supply our power source and they have other resources to generate power,” the old lady halted her talk for a few seconds, “why would they want the Great Zapfish for? Any possible answer? Or someone knows exactly why he would need it?”
The absolute silence is eerie until Suzuki shakily raised her hands. The old lady arched her eyebrows before nodding to let her answer. “Twenty years ago, I... I participated the project before I escaped, Mistress Octivia. He’s building some... sort of heavy spherical aircraft with some built-in turntables and mixers... along with some Wasabi supplies...” she gulped, “...the module were estimated to use large amount of energy... but Alivia and Alivia Jr helped me sabotaged the process before aiding me to escape that hell hole!”
“Calm down, dearest.” a tall figure, wearing a set of laser sight goggles, patted her shoulders sympathetically as she cried uncontrollably.
“Go calm your wife, Hayato. I fill in the rest of the details to you two later.” The lady in charge pardoned them as they walked back to the kettle. “Unfortunately, even with their best efforts in sabotaging, the heavy aircraft was built. If he manage to tame the Great Zapfish to do his bidding, Inkopolis is doom to be destroyed.”
“And as Octarians ourselves, we know how Octavio operated behind his DJ set. If we let that happen, we would be back to the starting point! Are you ready to oppose against the hypnotisation once more, my fellow friends?!” she shouted in a fierce tone.
“YES, MISTRESS!”
~~~~~~~~~~
Erek woke up early in the morning, the sky was bright and the sunlight shone through the windows. Lazily, he stretch his body as he get up from his bed and walked out from his bedroom. The birds were chirping and enjoying the cool breeze when he opened up the slide door that leads to the balcony. The dew drops were falling from the leaves of various flowers he potted yesterday. The sun was rising up from the clouds as he water his flowers.
Just as he walked back to his bedroom to take some clothes for his fresh debut, there came a huge knocking and loud ringing on the main door.
“Must be the neighbours... Cod, I forgot about introducing myself to them yesterday!” the boy mentally slapped himself, “Coming!”
He rushed to the door, not before he tied his tentacles to Topknot, and opened it to see three inklings standing there. One of them, the cyan ‘inkling’ girl, looks familiar but he couldn’t pinpoint on where he seen her before. The middle one of the group, a pink inkling girl, decided to talked.
“Hello there, rookie! The name’s Callie Mac N! Callie for short. On my left is one of my Roller buddies, Mike!”
Mike, an orange inkling boy, raise his Octoglasses and rest it in his forehead, “Hello~!”
“On my right is our little floof of our humble crew, Jewel!”
The cyan girl smiled brightly, “Hewwo, I’m Jewel. Your neighbour at the corner over there! My mommy told me about your arrival yesterday. What’s your name?”
The three of them stared at him with excitement. Nervously, he scratched his head before replying, “Oh... uh... My name is Erek! Nice to meet you all! Want to come in? I’m about to change my clothes and start cooking breakfast.”
“Oh, great! Thanks, buddy. Don’t mind us crash-... WOAH!” As soon as they were welcomed into Erek’s home, they were met with the most freshest living room they ever seen. A bookcase full of the latest video games, a clearly expensive LED TV along with its loudspeakers, limited edition of Chirpy Chips poster with the members’ signature and, is that a freaking CoroCoro hoodie hanging on a coat rack that was supposed to be out in like, next year?
“Umm, guys? You have been standing here for a long time. I made some light breakfast so we could... uh... chat?” Erek, now donning the Starting Gears, was quite concerned about his new friends, who gawked at his living room quite a long time. “Is it weird? My living room?”
The trio snapped out of their daze. “What, no!” Callie exclaimed, “It’s just... woah! My daily earnings couldn’t even pay for this kind of luxuries! Let alone that hoodie! How did you managed to get that?! It was supposed to come out next year!”
“Next year? But I got it for my birthday three days ago. My friend, Kevin, who gave me that just said they have extras so... yeah!” Erek recalled a little.
“Dude, you don’t actually mean Kevin, the famous trendsetter who just opened a company called Cuttlegear? That guy knows his stuff about fashion!” Mike gushed, “This Octoglasses? Automatically became my favourite headgear after he post some cool model pictures with them. And you know him?!”
“Yes? He works for my Grandmama and he take care of my wardrobe since I was young.”
“Wow! That is crazily fresh! Can I check your closet?”
“Mike, that is rud-”
“Sure, go straight and turn left, you should be able to reach my gear wardrobe.”
Mike cheered as he rushed to the location. Jewel facepalmed, “I’m sorry about my boyfriend.”
“It’s fine. I could give some gears away if he loved it so much. I was planning to buy my own clothes with empty slots anyway.”
“Wait, wha-”
“OH MY GOD! CALLIE! JEWEL! LOOK AT THIS! EREK HAVE SUPER FRESH CLOTHES! EVEN THE SLOTS ARE GOD TIER! I’M IN HEAVEN!”
“Gramps, come on... pick up the cells already...” Marie is pacing around the studio. After her cell ended with the monotone message and a beep, she heavily huffed before looked helplessly at her cheerful cousin, which now have a frown on her face as she fiddling with her thumbs. “Nothing?”
“Nothing.” she plopped down to a sofa as Callie sat down nervously beside her.
“It can’t be... he usually would answer us in a few rings. And now this happens!”
“It’s going to be alright, Cal. Once we finished our broadcast, we head straight down to Octo Valley to check up on him. He’s the strongest squid we have ever known.”
“I know, Marie. But, it’s Gramps we are talking about. Possibilities are limitless! What if his SquidCell is broken? What if he was kidnapped? What if-”
“Callie, calm down!” her cousin smacked her head slightly before caressing it gently. Callie pouted before surveying around the studio. The production team is a hectic mess. Bumping against each other frantically, papers are flying everywhere, the cameras are being thrown left and right.
“Squid Sisters? Five more minutes before we start the Inkopolis News!” a female show betta glided gracefully in front of the two cousins, pointing at her blue watch impatiently.
“Ms Betty!” the Squid Sisters immediately stand up and bow to her. “Sorry, me and Marie were-”
“I know,” Ms Betty halted the black inkling, “I’m not blaming you girls. This is probably the first time we have to broadcast this kind of news. If it weren’t for that Great Zapfish to go missing on us...”
“We understand, Ms Betty. We truly do.” Marie grimaced a bit before following behind their director. Once they arrived at the Inkopolis News Studio, they immediately went into position, just like they had been practised for the last few weeks.
“Don’t be nervous and follow the script. Add some colours into it like you are not reading whatever was written here, okay? That was what made this program famous for.” Ms Betty addressed, “We are ready in three, two...”
“Man, you are a really good cook!” Callie complimented Erek as they finally arrived at the Plaza. Jewel nodded shyly, agreeing what she had said while Mike is burping loudly, “Yeah, you should totally teach me that recipe! I could cook for my babs and mother-in-law too!”
“Mike!” Jewel slapped his back softly. They laughed loudly at the interaction. Probably loud enough to cause four certain inklings to turn their heads to them.
“Oh, you guys! Where have you been?!” a dark blue inkling boy with glasses asked. Callie shrugged it off when her new friend have a questioning look, “Those guys are the rest of my crew. From left to right, we got the ever so quiet Kitty,” she gestured excitedly to a lime green inkling girl who just waved before turning her focus back to her SquidPhone.
“Marcus, the ‘cool guy’ wannabe,” a purple inkling boy just flicked her some fingers before finishing his drink.
“Blitz, my roommate and another Roller Buddies,” the boy with the glasses offered to shake hands. Erek accepted it and shake politely.
“And Marlee! Our new member from last week!” a dark green inkling girl grinned at them.
Once introductions are done, Blitz pondered a bit, “I’m going to assumed you haven't watch the news, yes?”
“No. Why?” Mike asked back, “Are the news reporter some blacklisted musicians?”
“No,”
“Racist?” Jewel cautioned.
“No,”
“Famous enough to actually expect them to report Inkopolis News?” Callie guessed before squinting at the big window where the reporters would be sitting. “Well, yes! But it’s not the point right now! The content-”
“HOLY ZAPFISH, IS THAT THE SQUID SISTER?! I’M A BIG FAN! HEY CALLIE, WE HAVE THE SAME NAME!” Callie Mac shouted enthusiastically as she run up the walkway and squeezed her way through the crowd outside.
“Why do we elect her as the captain?” Marcus scoffed at her behaviour. “So crazy, that woman...”
“I’m a big fan as well... but not as hyper as Callie is.” Erek giggled. The crew laughed it off for a while.
“So, back to the topic, what do we miss?” Mike questioned with a curious tone.
“You see, well,” Blitz looked at his clueless teammates, and a new friend, with a sense of guilt, “I don’t think we could participate this month Splatfest.”
The trio gasped. They were shocked, especially Erek. His first day of debut had clashed with a horrific news. The kind of news he didn’t expect to happen in the first place.
“Are you serious, mate?” Mike fretted, “We never ever have a Splatfest cancelled before! All they need is to postpone, like they did in that Pencil vs Pen Splatfest!”
“News Flash, brother.” the purple inkling roughly tilted his friend’s head up, the rest of them followed suit, “Our humble energy source had disappeared!”
“Staaaay fresh!” was all she last heard before turning off the radio. Furrowing her eyebrows, Tres quietly packed her Splattershot Jr. Before she could even tiptoed towards the old, rotten door, she was hugged from the back. Usually, she would roundhouse that person who dared to risk their life to hug her but there are few exceptions, especially this little yellow figure behind her is her baby sister.
“Paula...” she turned around before kneeling down to hug her back, making the little inkling giggled silently. Tres smiled softly, “Go back to big brother, would you? Breakfast’s ready.”
“Annnd you are going to stay this time, Big Sis.” another yellow figure, slightly smaller than Tres, spoke sternly while pointing a pan to threaten her. Tres smirked a bit before running to the door. She was succeeding before her face got stuck. A freaking clear tape prank.
“Cielo... Zona...” she pulled the tape immediately before screaming in pain, “Again?”
“It’s ya fault that ya makin this easy for us, Big Sis.” two small orange figures appeared outside the door. They laughed heartily at her before shrieked as their eldest sister hugged them off the ground. It’s not long before the rest of the siblings decided to join their group hug.
They settled down after they finally convinced their eldest sibling to stay back and properly eat her breakfast. Although it’s been a while since they have breakfast together, Tres still wolfed down her share of food. Diego couldn’t stand this any longer as he hit her softly but still painful enough with the very same pan.
“Eat it slowly, Big Sis. It’s not like the Inkopolis Tower is going to run anywhere.”
“I know but the faster I earn some cash, the sooner we can get the surgery to be done.”
“Big Sis...” the small twin-tailed inkling mumbled before she quickly snatched back her small bits of bread from her twin brother. The eldest grinned at this sight before excusing herself from the table. She pecked each one of them before heading out.
“Be careful not to overwork yourself, Big Sis!” Diego shouted. Tres halted her movement before glancing back at the eldest brother of the house. “I can’t promise that.”
She sighed before whispering, “Not when our dad have his life on the line.”
