What are your thoughts on guardians vol.3? (If you have watched it) I went into it, expecting it went to the garbage like the rest of the mcu, but I was pleasantly surprised by its creativity, trope subversion, and how it wrapped up the previously unresolved arks of its characters.
That's what I've heard!
The thing is, Guardians 3 could be the most transcendent work of cinema ever made, and I'd probably still feel little to no motivation to watch it at this point. It's not Guardians's fault - it's just suffering from the same problem that superhero comics have been struggling with for decades: no matter how good an individual arc or run is, absolutely nothing good lasts or matters in the long term, and the stories are shaped in such a way that "the long term" is the only thing anyone gets to build towards.
Whenever I complain about the MCU I get a handful of people loudly complaining about my complaining, with the general thesis that if I don't like it I shouldn't watch it or talk about it - if I'm not having fun, just stop engaging with it. And the thing is, I have. I am intellectually interested in why this massive franchise is fumbling the bag so hard, which is why I still check in on it sometimes, but I've long since stopped turning to the MCU for uncritical entertainment. And even the good movies or shows with a lot of interesting ideas - good character arcs, fun concepts, interesting planting for future payoff - don't draw me in anymore, because they're hooked into a massive moneymaking machine that will scrap and squander anything if they think it'll make them more in the quarter. It doesn't matter how good the writing is, because the writers are not allowed to tell a complete, finished story, and they have no control over what happens to their characters outside of their own script.
Captain America's arc was set up from literally minute one to answer one burning question at the core of his character: does a world without a war still need Captain America? After that incredibly basic tee-up at the end of First Avenger, half a dozen movies failed to come up with a reason to say "yes," and now Steve is retired for good after getting fumbled through four different storylines that couldn't even pretend that they needed him (the unused Chekhov's Phone from the end of Civil War still haunts me). The foundational arc of his entire character never happened because nobody bothered to keep track of it past a single movie.
Taika did something interesting with Thor in Ragnarok - take away Mjolnir, force him to recognize what it means to be the god of thunder, give him a very Odin-y missing eye - and the very next movie undid all of it. Just kidding, never mind, here's an eye and a new weapon and also his old weapon again, and in one more movie we're even gonna give him his hair back, probably as an apology for all the completely unironic fatphobia we're gonna slather him in for two and a half hours. I'm not even surprised Love And Thunder was such an overblown mess that barely took itself seriously - why would Taika bother trying to give Thor another arc when the powers that be will just roll it back in six months anyway?
I hear Rocket Raccoon has a fantastic arc in this movie. That's great, and demonstrates that he's being written by a writer that deeply cares about him. But he's part of the MCU, and the MCU doesn't let anything end, so if current patterns hold, Rocket is going to continue to serve as quippy plushie-bait for the next dozen movies and none of that depth is going to come through in the long term. Hell, since they're making Kang noises for the Next Big Threat and Kang's entire gimmick is rewriting timelines, literally none of this is guaranteed to matter. By next year, it might not have even happened anymore.
The MCU has successfully shaped itself into a paradigm where the bright spots of good writing are overridden and lost as soon as the writers room turns over, and that makes it really hard for me to muster up the enthusiasm to watch even a really good movie that's locked into the exact same grist mill as everything else. I'm glad people liked it, I hope it gets to stay good this time - I just have no desire to watch it.

konig is your roommate
wc: 995 warnings: none just fluff, quick mentions of crying, fem reader (not much metions of female characteristics) a/n: oh lord my first contribution to the cod fandom after consuming brainrot on here and tiktok for the past couple of months :3 i can def do a pt 2 to this with smut but i just wanted to dip my toes in first and see if anybody even likes this lmao MINORS DNI (have your age in your bio or you're getting blocked)
How you ended up with a man in his mid 30s that’s retired from the military as a roommate is beyond you
You were a broke teacher living paycheck to paycheck and you needed to find a way to conserve costs
You posted a Craigslist posting (definitely not shady at all) looking for a roommate and he messaged you within the first hour of you posting to see if he could check the place out!
It was mildly jarring seeing a 6’10 man in a black surgical mask show up ringing your doorbell. You couldn’t even see above his chest when you looked through the peephole
He was so quiet when you first tried to spark up a conversation with him that you thought he hated your apartment and maybe even you…
Before he even finished his tour of the apartment he took out an envelope of cash from his pocket that had enough to cover the first three months of rent :0
He moved in all of his belongings the following week while texting you a few times leading up to his move in date just confirming what time he’ll be showing up and if you’re still okay with the agreement
He was equally dry over text as he was in person it was a hard obstacle to jump over to get him to open up with you
The first time he actually started a conversation with you was when he saw you diligently working in the living room on a lesson plan for the upcoming week
At first he just sat down on the couch silently from you just watching you and this didn’t bother you as you’ve come to learn that he is more of an observer than a talker
“Um…what are you working on?”
Your head shot up and a smile spread on your face this was the first time Konig has expressed any interest in your career
“I’m cutting out flashcards I made for the kids so they can match the words to the pictures! I just procrastinated a little bit so I’m doing it all now.” You chuckled and he hummed in acknowledgement
After that conversation the interactions over the months got a lot more comfortable
So here we are now (it’s been about 5 months) and you and Konig are having your weekly movie and pizza night
You let Konig pick the movie this week and you were quite surprised that he chose ‘Inside Out’
Seeing such a large man engrossed in such a cute animated movie made your cheeks hurt with how it made you smile
He was quite surprised when he turned around and saw tears running down your cheeks after watching the scene of Bing Bong die
His eyes widened and without thinking he scooped you up into a hug while you let out all the sad feelings from the characters sacrifice
“Gosh Konig I’m so sorry! That was really silly. I shouldn't be crying so hard over a kid’s movie.”
You looked up at him and your eyes met with his cerulean ones. They had such a tender look to them and it made you and the room feel a lot hotter than what you remember
With a haste Konig pulled down his mask and placed a chaste kiss on your cheek
Needless to say you guys just stared at each other like this: :000 for about a minute before either of you said anything
You were the first one to speak up
“Konig, that was the cutest thing you’ve ever done.”
He just blushed and broke the eye contact and coughed to try and clear his throat
“I, u-um I wanted to do that for a while actually.”
Hearing him say this made you giggle and to reciprocate the feelings  you’ve also been holding on to you placed a peck onto his forehead.
“I’ve wanted to do that for a while too so now we’re even! The ball’s in your court now Konig, do with that info what you will.”
You pranced off into your room and giggled while Konig was stuck on the couch just absolutely stunned as to what happened.
The next day you wake up and see a note that was slipped under your door. You open it up and it brings a warm smile to your face
‘Dinner at my place tonight! Wear something nice ;)’ You giggled knowing that Konig wasn’t the biggest fan of being in crowded places so a dinner at home was a perfect plan
You noticed Konig wasn’t home so you decided to go to the grocery store really quick and pick up two bottles of white wine for the night
Once you were back at the house you heard Konig was in the shower so you decided to go take a shower yourself and get yourself ready.
You decided to go the full nine yards and put on a red velvet mini dress and do your hair
When you stepped out you saw Konig already at the stove getting dinner ready. You snuck up behind him and wrapped your arms around his waist
“Whatcha cookin’?” Your voice was muffled into his back and you felt the vibrations of his chuckle
“It's a surprise schatz so go sit in the living room till I’m done”
“What’s a schatz?” All he did was laugh at your response and usher you out the kitchen
You sat in the living room with a pout on your face until you heard Konig call your name to let you come back into the kitchen
Your mouth watered seeing the chicken parmesan dished out and two poured out glasses of wine
“Oh Konig, this is great!” You stood on your tippy toes to give him a kiss of gratefulness
“Careful Y/N if you keep kissing me like that we’ll never get to dinner…” The sound of his voice was deep and a bit gruff
“And is that really a problem?”

MR. LOVERMAN, CHAPTER 2
i finished this at like 2am after last night's episode so like?? ignore how rushed it might seem i was tired
warnings—mentions of alcohol (reader gets drunk)
[series masterlist ] [chapter 1] [chapter 3]
Tumblr media
A couple of months went by, a lot faster than how Pedro expected it to be. Before he knows it, it's nearly Thanksgiving break. and soon, it's going to be time for winter vacation. By then, the year will already be halfway over.
Thanksgiving break wasn't as big of a deal to students, because the break was shorter. It was just a long weekend, but still–a break is a break nontheless. The worst day was the Monday before, and the Monday after.
Mondays never used to bother Pedro, frankly, he didn't mind waking up early and driving to work while the sun was still coming out, however, some moving into the apartment complex — the neighbors are less than considerate. They blast their crappy remixed music until ungodly hours of the night, which resulted in him getting a lot less sleep than before, and he couldn't quite enjoy the sun anymore. He wonders if he should've kept the house in the divorce–he paid for it after all. Though he wouldn't feel as happy in it anymore, it wouldn't be home.
He can't think of the details of his divorce for too long, it'll either make him feel upset or angry. As he's going to work, he can't be either of those things. The students shouldn't see him like that, and some of them are already upset and angry enough for both of them.
He drives into the staff parking lot at 7:02, which gives him just barely enough time to get into his classroom and prepare for the day ahead. He had a good week before vacation planned, all his students were going to the lab — he finally got the okay to perform the elephant toothpaste experiment — and he was sure that the kids would love an experiment like that. He gets his bag filled with yeast, water, and food coloring – and he's off into the building.
He can tell the staff doesn't want to be here either, their huge coffees and barely awake mumbling. He can only imagine how the students will be. Only four days, then it's a long weekend and Thanksgiving. He's only halfway to his classroom when he notices you're not too far in front of him in the hall, so he calls your name.
When you turn–you smile at the sight of your friend, honestly, you thought it would've been Jen or someone else you just didn't have the energy to talk to at the moment. "Morning, Pedro." you hum, stopping in your tracks to allow him to catch up. "What's the plan for today?"
"Elephant toothpaste!" He exclaims, turning the corner to the hallway of both your classrooms. He's already talked your ear off about this experiment – so you didn't need to ask about it again. If there was anything he was more passionate about than teaching, it was science. It's what made him such an effective teacher. "And you?"
"Nothing special. I had a test planned but honestly, I might just put on a movie." giving them a test would be pointless, and probably just piss your students off. He nods as if he heard your thoughts, "That would probably be better."
You smile, stopping at your door and finding your room's key on the Keychain. "A couple of other teachers and I are going out after school on Thursday, to celebrate the vacation." You tell him, he's standing up against a locker watching you struggle with your keys before finally pushing your classroom door open. "Probably to some bar, you're welcome to join us. If you want."
It feels nice to be included in work parties like this, to have the chance to interact with people you work with for hours on end five times a week, outside of an environment where you have to watch what you say and force this sort of politeness. However, the age thing made it harder for him.
The age gap doesn't stop him from being friends with the other teachers—the technology teacher just around the corner was fifteen or so years older than Pedro, though he can assure you he won't be at this gathering. He can already imagine the crowd it will likely be, you, Sam, and a bunch of other teachers in their late twenties to early thirties. He would be out of place, too old to be hanging out with the youth. God forbid you wanted to dance — the last time he danced was at his wedding, ten years ago. "I dunno," he says after a few moments of contemplating, playing with the lid of his coffee cup, following "Don't you think – I'll be a little out of place?" He decides to put it lightly, instead of, don't you think I won't fit in because I'm old?
"Don't be ridiculous," you dismiss, waving your hand as you put your coat and bag in the closet behind your desk. "You realize, half the staff loves you, right? Think you're the coolest guy they've met." and some other things you promised not to say.
"And the other half?"
"They don't know you."
Thursday came quicker than Pedro expected, though he should've known given it was just a four-day week, and there wasn't any productive work happening in his classroom.
He didn't give it much thought until you popped your head into his room once all the children left the school for the weekend. "Did you make up your mind?" you ask, his attention shifts to you, he can't help but notice the new way you had styled your hair today, and he made a mental note to say something about it.
"Are you sure I won't be too old for you youths?" He asks playfully, "I don't want to drag the rest of you down." To this response, you roll your eyes. "Pedro Pascal." You huff, stepping completely into his classroom. "Enough with this age nonsense, I bet you can still bust some moves. Have fun tonight."
"Fine, I'll go." He can't seem to find a way to say no to you, part of him thinks he doesn't entirely want to, it's been so long since he went out with friends and relaxed like this, perhaps it was the night of his graduation night when he went to the bar last. That feels like centuries ago now. "You don't mind if I leave at seven? I have to be in bed by eight."
"Oh, shut up! you're not that old!"
Tumblr media
He's back in his apartment, looking frantically for any clothes to wear that weren't too business casual, this was a bar after all — he wasn't going to show up in one of his silly ties. It seemed though that everything he tried on wasn't right. As the clock got closer to the time you told him to meet everyone else, he grew impatient, throwing on black pants and a long black long-sleeved shirt, and he was on his way.
He pulls into the parking lot to see a good number of cars, but none of them look familiar to him–he was nervous that he was in the wrong place, and he's about to check his phone to reread your text before he sees you getting out of your car. He assumes you saw him when you start heading over to him. He turns the engine, slips out of his truck, and locks the door.
"Wow, wow, Mr. Pascal–don't you clean up nicely," you comment, making him re-check what he's wearing as if he forgot. "Thank you, Ms. L/N. You don't look too bad yourself." You only beam, before turning heel to head towards the bar. "Come on, old man. Times tickin' before your bedtime, and we're not spending it outside in the parking lot!"
Pedro's not fully sure what he was expecting, but it wasn't this.
He wasn't completely wrong in the sense of who came — it was more people around your age interested in the dance floor playing Lady Gaga – not that she's not amazing, that woman is a God – however, it just wasn't his groove tonight. He notices Sam is very into it, they're dancing to whatever song comes on and living in the moment. Pedro is envious for a moment, he watches everyone on the dance floor for a moment, thankfully, when you slide into the chair beside him, martini in hand, and distract him from his co-workers' choreography to Bad Romance. You've got a buzz going, not that he can blame you. If he had a designated driver, he would've been drinking a little more himself.
"Pedro," you start, there's a pause before you continue. "You gotta dance—have fun with us! you look awfully lonely sittin' here by yourself with a, what are you drinking?"
"Jack Daniels," He says, "Jack Daniels!" you exclaim.
"'m not lonely." He assures, sometimes he liked the solitude. While he did come here for a social outing, sometimes he liked to be left alone in places like this. "You should go back out there! Join your friends on the dance floor!" to his suggestion, you shake your head. Even with alcohol in your system, you're just as stubborn as when you're sober. "Not without you, no!"
"Can I ask you something?" If you were sober, he would've said something stupid like you already did. Though he figures that while you're in your current state, squinting your eyes at him, perhaps now wasn't the time to use such stale humor. "Shoot,"
"Why did you get a divorce?"
…woah.
For some reason he wasn't expecting that, not from you at least—maybe Sam, or Jenny, or one of the other teachers whose first names he can never remember. He can tell you're curious, eyebrows raised and your drink is pulled closer to you, his face suddenly feels hot, and he's blushing. He can't quite figure out why, is he embarrassed?
Divorce isn't something to be embarrassed about, it happens to more people than you might think. Yeah, he's forty-seven years old and that's a little later than when most people get divorced, but it's not like it's completely unheard of. He's not Ross Geller from the show friends, it's not like this is his second or third divorce. Still, the word haunts him and follows him around as this sort of shame, this dirty word. He feels like he's judged by teachers and students. Mr. Pascal moved here because he got divorced. That his friends walk on eggshells around him, Pedro hasn't been the same since his divorce. "She cheated on me," he replies, deciding on telling the truth about it. It's the best way to face it, his life fell to shambles because his wife — the woman who he promised to love through sickness and health — decided to find comfort in the arms of another, he can't sleep as well as he used to because he moved out of his home where he had caught them, he couldn't stay there because of the reminders in each hallway what used to be.
He's caught off guard when you make a "tsk" sound, "I can't believe that," you say, "Who can cheat on you? I mean you're sweet, you're funny, and attractive, any woman would be lucky to have you!" While touched by your words that he assumes is meant to be a ego boost, he knows that he didn't give you the entire story.
"I was kind of being a shitty husband, I was drowning myself in work all the time, n' when I wasn't working, I wasn't giving her an equal amount of my time either. She found someone who would, I can't blame her for that." You wave your hand as if that part doesn't matter. "Whatever, I still can't believe someone would cheat on you. I mean, you're a heartthrob, who could let that go?" He knows you don't mean it — if you do, you're too drunk to be willingly saying it. Not to him at least, he underestimated your buzz.
"Who's your driver for tonight?" he asks, choosing not to comment on what you said to save you any embarrassment in case you wake up tomorrow and remember this. "Sam," you say, looking at the dance floor to point to them as if Pedro hadn't ever met them before. When you go to do that, you discover that they're gone. Apparently, they left. Leaving you abandoned, because well, Pedro sure as hell was not going to allow you to drive home. He pays for his drinks, and offers his arm out to you, which you not-so-gracefully stumble into. "Where we goin', Mr. Pascal?" you ask while he guides you to the doors of the bar. You're leaning into his chest, he's a lot leaner than you thought, and he smells vaguely of vanilla. "I'm taking you to my house," he sighs, patting his pockets until he finds his keys, unlocking the car to help you in.
He sighs once he's finally got you into the car, he's thankful that he went because god knows where you could've been by now, and he doesn't want anything happening to you—he's also thankful because he has material to tease you about once you're well enough to understand.
I'm a heartthrob. He thinks, smirking wide as he gets into the driver's seat.

Can we please talk about Knuckles history/ past?
I just saw a tick tock video, which topping was sad history and showed pictures of Movie Sonic, Tails, Knuckles (and that fanmade movie Shadow version).
That made me think.
When I was a kid, I always saw Knuckles as my favorite character because he was cool, red, and strong. But today, he is my favorite because of his sad story. And I personally think that he has the most sadest story of all Sonic characters. Allow me to explain:
1. He has no real family. His entire race died because they wanted to use the Chaos and the Master Emerald for evil stuff. They all died, and Tikal sacrificed herself to seal Chaos. So Knuckles had to grow up by himself, hunting/ finding food, without a mother or father or anyone, all by himself, alone for 16 years. I mean, yes, the little Chaos are there to keep him company, but they can't talk or take care of him much of him.
2. His feelings: He is naive and believed Eggman several times and teamed up with him, despite knowing that Eggman was evil, but still tried to see the good in him, which was all for nothing, because Eggman used him. Then we have Rouge, the flying bat thieve who is trying to get the Master Emerald. She would fight and flirt her way through to get what she wanted and now image. This boy never had someone to love him, so he doesn't really know what love is (I guess) and now imagine how it would feel to have a girl flirting with you, but not being sure if she is serious about this or just wants the Master Emerald. This makes Knuckles even more insecure than he already is because he is constantly alarmed when someone calls out Rouges' name like we saw in the Tails tube video.
3. Angel Island: Like I mentioned in the first point, Knuckles' ancestors wanted to use the power of chaos for evil stuff, so Knuckles wants to fix his ancestor's mistakes by guarding and protecting the island without any help from others. But the problem is, if he doesn't take the other's help, then he will never be free from that burden. Everyone can be on earth and go wherever they desire, but he can't. He is trapped on the island because he knows that no one except him will guard the Master Emerald without even a "thank you". A lot of people are not seeing how much Knuckles does to protect others by staying on Angel Island and protecting that Emerald.
Also, he is the only one who can communicate with the M.E. to neutralize the Chaos Emeralds' power. He will forever be bound to that big responsibility, whether he likes it or not. He is never going to be free, and he knows it. That's why he sees no real purpose in life except for having fun and doing your best (what he said in the Twitter takeover). I mean, yes, he leaves the island to watch "One Punch Man" at Cream's and Vanilas' place, but guess who will probably use that to his advantage: Eggman.
4. His friends: Sonic seems to be the only one who really cares about Knuckle's lonelynes. When they had that short, deep talk during Frontiers, Sonic said that his friends were there to support him. But in the last Twitter takeover, when it was mentioned that Knuckles had a fan, he talked very low of himself, seeing himself as a character who doesn't or shouldn't have fans. Sonic told him to be nicer to his fans, and Amy asked him about his personality, where he replied that everything sucks. It was quite obvious that Knuckles spoke very low of himself, but Tails tried to brush him off.
Why wouldn't his friends try to be more supporting, maybe saying that it wasn't really his fault? Or trying to make him see the good things in himself?
Like, Tails got into a big group hug when they were told that Tails didn't have a home back then. Or when they talk about Maria when Shadow is there, it is a sensitive topping, and they are making sure not to hurt Shadow's feelings. Or when Sonic had that dream about him saving the city and no one noticing, they gave him therapy.
But Knuckles doesn't get that treatment?
Yes, Sonic talked to him in Frontiers, but why not in the takeover? Why not get more support for him?
So yeah, that's what I've been thinking.
Knuckles sure had some character development, but it doesn't change his history or the fact that he will forever have to stay on the floating island.
I really would like it if someone stayed by his side and visited him sometimes so Knuckle could have some rest or simply would have someone to talk to for at least once in a while.

You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home || Frankie Morales x Actress!Reader
summary: 20 years ago you left your home town to pursue your dreams. Now you're back after your grandmother's passing and you're reunited with your old bestfriend Frankie Morales.
warnings: Angst and Fluff. Mentions of death and funerals. Allusions to sex but no actually smut.
a/n: I love love frankie so much and I thought this fic would be fun! Its finally here and I really hope you all enjoy it <3
Tumblr media
It’s been 15, no. 20 years since you were home. Really home. You’ve lived all over the country but you haven’t been back to your small, shitty hometown in forever.
Once you got the chance you took all the money you had saved from working odd jobs, packed a suitcase, and left. Never looking back. Well until now.
“Look Katie, I just need some time.” You say, frustrated with your manager's constant calling. You always knew that Hollywood agents could be ruthless but your grandmother just died so couldn’t she give you a fucking break?
“Don’t call me until then unless it's an emergency. A real emergency.” Before she could respond you hung up. Letting out a groan as you throw your head back.
Your grandmother meant a lot to you. She practically raised you when your parents decided they didn’t give a shit about you anymore. She was the only one to believe in you and your dreams.
While everyone else laughed in your face she cheered. She bought you old movies with what little money she had just to watch your eyes light up. She was the only one keeping you in town but when you graduated high school she gave you her blessing to chase your dreams. Promising to always be there if you needed her. It took a lot of patience and effort.
A lot of tears and a lot of doubts but eventually you landed a role that launched you into stardom. Your character became a fan favorite meaning that you’ve become Hollywood's newest star. With fame came everything you ever dreamed of. You sent your grandmother money even if she told you she didn’t need it. You offered to buy her a new house, move her anywhere she wanted to go and buy her anything she could dream of. But she didn’t want any of that. She was happy in your small town, in her small house. Still you always made sure she was taken care of.
You should have visited her more. Should have called more. Life just got so busy. Going from project to project. Interview to interview. Party to party. The life you knew before all of this was long forgotten.
When you got the call it was like everything had stopped. Time had frozen and you knew that maybe things had gone too far. It’s not like you got yourself into scandals or got in with the wrong crowd. But you did get swept up in the flashing lights. You canceled everything and booked a ticket home.
Stepping out of the car you’re met with a strange feeling. Not quite nostalgia but not disgust. Your grandmother's home was just how you remembered it. Down to the rocking chair on the porch and the tacky but charming green carpet.
Setting down your bag you take a slow walk through the hallways. Pictures from your childhood line the walls. Drawings you did when you were a kid still pinned with a thumbtack.
A loud crash echoes through the house making your heart drop. There shouldn't be anyone else here. Grabbing the nearest weapon like thing, which happened to be an umbrella, you slowly creep towards the noise. It came from the master bedroom.
You can hear grumbling and despite your better judgment you press on. Raising the umbrella you enter the room and see a man with his back to you.
Without thinking you slam the umbrella down onto his back and while it doesn't hurt him it takes him by surprise.
"What the fuck!" He falls to his knees and turns around. A look of absolute bewilderment in his eyes. You raise your arms again but falter when you get a look at his face.
"Frankie?" You ask in disbelief.
"Hey there sunshine."
Francisco Morales. He was your next door neighbor, your best friend, and your childhood crush. Well he was until he ran off and joined the military and left you all alone. He was just a shy kid when you first met. He had flown his little model plane into your backyard and the rest was history. It's been, shit how long since you spoke to him?
You drop the umbrella and help him back up.
"What are you doing in my grandmother's house?"
"Looking for pictures to use at the funeral." He says.
"What? Why?"
"Cause I'm planning it." He takes that hat he's had ever since he was a kid off and runs his hand through his hair.
"I came back a few years ago. I just. I needed some quiet." He starts, sitting on your grandmother's bed ever so carefully.
He looks sadly around the room. Frankie spent a lot of time in this house too. Playdates turned into hangouts that turned into study sessions, movie nights, sleepovers, and so much more.
"My parents left me the house after they passed so I moved in and well." He shrugs.
"I'm sorry Frankie I had no idea..." You say softly. His parents were also so kind to you. They were the family you always wanted. There for you. Made you home cooked meals. Hell they cheered just as loud for you at graduation.
"They asked about you a lot," Frankie says with a smile. Like the sweetest memories are swirling around his head.
"They were worried but I told them that they had nothing to be worried about. Seems I was right." He beams as he looks at you.
You were so different. Yeah the superficial stuff had changed. Nicer clothes and a fancy bag but that wasn’t all. The way you carried yourself has changed in Frankie's eyes. Before he left you were unhappy.
You hated where you were and it showed. Everyday he wished he could do something about it but the day he told you he was enlisting was the day he realized he had lost you. Now, well now you’re happy. You stand taller than before and your eyes shine with a confidence that he’s never seen before.
“I better get out of your way. I’ll be next door if you need anything.” You want to tell him to stay but the words don’t come out. Instead you watch him leave.
The only sound in your grandmother's house was the ticking of her old clock. It starts to get to you after a while. You’ve settled into the guest room and now you’re sitting in her living room.
You know realistically that you’re going to have to clean up the house eventually. Sort her things into piles and decide what to do with it all. It feels gross. Your grandmother lived a lifetime and to take it all and put it into three fucking piles didn’t feel right.
Honestly the idea of buying the house crosses your mind. But then it would just sit here. Collecting dust when someone who might actually need a nice house can’t have it. Sighing you sit back on the couch and stare at the ceiling.
After a few moments you reach over and pick up the phone. You nervously tap the couch as it rings.
“Hello?”
“Hey Frankie, do you want to come over? We could watch a movie or…” You can’t think of anything else to say.
The truth is you just don’t want to be alone. It’s too quiet. It’s unnerving to hear so much silence.
“I’ll be right over.” Not even 5 minutes later there’s knocking at the door.
It feels like you’re back in high school. Calling Frankie to come over because you’re bored and he happily shows up. Sometimes he’d have a new game he wanted to show you or a movie he saw at the store that day. He kicks off his shoes and sets them by the door.
All the food in the kitchen has already been thrown out by now so you settle for ordering pizza. Frankie throws in some random movie into the DVD player and you sit together watching it. At some point he notices that you’re not really watching it. You may be facing the screen but your eyes are glossed over.
“Hey, is everything alright?” You turn to see that familiar look on his face. That one where his pretty eyes look so concerned. His lips form a small pout and his whole body is turned towards you.
“No.” You admit. Your head falling down as you stare at your hands in your lap.
“Do you want to talk about it?” He scoots closer and you let him.
Frankie always had the best hugs when you were feeling upset and that’s all you want right now. To feel safe and to be hugged by someone who truly cares about you.
“Do you think she was mad at me? For not coming home as much.” Your voice is small as you face the one worry that’s been floating in the back of your head.
“No, no, not at all sunshine.” Frankie cups your face and makes you look up at him.
“She was so damn proud of you. She used to have me take her to the library and she’d have me google your name and she’d print out the news articles.” Frankie grins and you laugh, knowing that your grandmother probably showed them to random people. But it makes your heart ache at the same time.
“So um, how have you been Frankie?” He shrugs and his eyes look towards the floor.
“Fine. You know I got a job down at Ben’s.” He’s closing off. You can tell just by the way he’s moving. Turning away from you, playing with his hands.
“You can tell me anything,” He looks up at you and smiles sadly.
“Can I? I mean it’s nice to pretend for a while that things haven’t changed but let's be real here. You’re a star. You’re gonna be gone again in what? A week?” He leans back on the couch.
He doesn’t mean for it to come off like he’s bitter or angry. He’s not. He knew from day one that you were going to be something more than he could ever be. So he tried to make something of himself too by joining the military.
What he didn’t expect was for it to tear the two of you apart. Truth is he loved you. He loved you since the day he flew his damn toy plane into your backyard. But time passed and he always felt like it wasn’t the right moment. Then he lost his chance.
“That’s…It’s different now.” You say, an upset feeling starting to take over you.
“Is it?" He sighs and faces you. A sad but loving look on his face.
"I’m not mad. I’m so so proud of you.” He says gently as he cups your face with his hand.
This is his moment. The one he should have taken all those years ago. Was it too late? He leans in closer and closer and suddenly it feels like you’re back in high school. The day that he told you that he was leaving and the day you ran away from him.
“I’m sorry. I can’t.” You mumble as you stand up suddenly. Heartbreak is written all over his face as he drops his hand. The doorbell rings and Frankie stands up quickly.
“That’ll be the pizza.” He mumbles as he pats his pants for his wallet. After paying he holds it out to you and you take it.
“I think I should go.” He stuffs his hands in his pockets and smiles. “Please don’t go.” You beg. The last thing you wanted was for things to be weird. You’d lost touch with him for years and now you just got him back.
“I’ll be around, just need to clear my head alright sunshine?” You nod sadly as he leaves. The screen door slams leaving you back where you started.
Alone.
The first time you realized you were in love with your best friend was freshman year. The homecoming dance was a big deal to you, not as much to Frankie but he never cared much for school events. You thought that your first real high school dance was supposed to be perfect.
Well your dreams were crushed the moment you walked in alone and a drink was poured over your head. You couldn’t see much behind the tears but you could hear them laughing. Frankie had gotten there earlier with his “date” who was laughing along with everyone else. He didn’t want to say yes but you pushed him to and so he did with much reluctance.
You ran out of the gym and ran all the way home. Crying your eyes out as you hid in your backyard. Your grandmother had already gone to bed so you could sit in your own sadness for a while. Frankie took off right behind you. Not wasting a moment and following you all the way home. He wrapped you up in his jacket and hugged you tight. Promising to never let anyone hurt you like that again. In his arms you were safe and you felt loved.
For the next 4 years your crush remained buried deep inside of you. You refused to let it out in favor of keeping your friendship. Then came the day he told you he was leaving. Graduation had already passed and you were ready for a summer with your best friend.
The first day he showed up at your doorstep with a shaved head and a solemn look on his face. He’s joining the military and he leaves in a week. It’s like your whole world was crashing down on you. He was the one good thing about this town. The one person you relied on. He was your rock, your best friend, your everything and he was leaving.
Tears and shouting was all you could really remember about that night. Telling him to fuck off wasn’t your best moment but in all your anger you just let the words fly. He left a week later and you never saw him again. Until today.
You always hated the way you left things but it was too late in your mind. Soon your world became crazier and he floated to the back of your mind.
The day of your funeral comes quicker than you liked. Frankie and you had barely spoken since then. Working together with the cemetery and the reception place was easy and Frankie handled the harder parts that you didn’t want to think about.
Even if you weren’t speaking he was still there for you. Your voice is shaky as you give your speech. Trying your hardest to keep yourself from crying as you told the small crowd just how much your grandmother meant to you. You feel a hand grab yours and see Frankie standing beside you.
Once again he’s your strength as you get through your speech with only a few tears. He hugs you tight as they lower her coffin into the ground and he lets you cry when you need it. The reception is small and nice as people talk quietly. You sit in the corner nursing a drink as you watch.
“Hey.” Looking up you see Frankie standing in front of you.
He holds out a plate with a cookie on it and you accept it. He sits by you and for a while doesn’t say anything. His hair is flattened down with gel and his suit looks a little too tight for his liking.
“I’m sorry for that night. It was wrong of me to try to take advantage of you.” He says breaking the silence. He kicked himself when he got home. Realizing how selfish he was for trying to kiss you like that.
“And I’m sorry for leaving you.” You sigh and rest your hand on his knee.
“It’s alright Frankie. You needed time, I got that.”
“No, I mean I’m sorry for leaving you back in high school.” He clarifies. You stop and close your eyes. Any anger, any resentment you had for him had disappeared a long time ago.
“I’m not upset anymore, I was at the time. I felt like you were abandoning me. But I’m past that.”
“The reason I left was because I knew that you were going to do something amazing. I…I loved you sunshine and selfishly I thought that if I made something of myself that I would be worthy of you. Of your love.” He admits. It makes your heart ache. If either one of you had just said something then life would have been different. You would have had your Frankie.
“You were my everything Frankie. As long as I had you then I knew I’d be okay.”
“You did amazing on your own though.”
"Still, I would have liked to have you with me. You don’t know how many people I wanted to punch while trying to network in LA.” You both share a laugh, trying to keep it quiet as you lean on his shoulder.
“Are we too late?” He asks suddenly. His hand covers yours as he waits for your answer. Is it too late for your friendship? Never. Was it too late for something more?
“I-”
RING RING
Your phone buzzes in your purse as you quickly fish it out. Sighing you see your manager's name flashing on the screen. You flash Frankie a sorry smile before walking out and answering it.
“Hi Katie.”
“Big news. I just landed you a role on that new breakout Netflix show.” Her overly peppy voice makes you wince. But you can’t deny that’s a huge deal.
“Wow, that's amazing. When do we start?”
“Well I won’t lie, it has already started. But I got the director to give you some time due to your circumstances.” You can feel what's coming.
“He wants you on set in two days. It’s filming in France and I already have your flight booked.”
“I mean it sounds great but-”
“Perfect! See you then.” She hangs up before you can ask for time to think.
Two days? That’s not enough time. What about your grandmother's house? What about Frankie? You just got him back and now you have to jet off to France?
“Take it.” You whip around to see Frankie had followed you. You don’t know how much he’s heard but you start to make an excuse.
“But what about us? I can’t lose you again.” You wipe your eyes as he wraps you in a tight hug.
One hand on your back and the other on the back of your head. It’s comforting but bittersweet as you know you have to say goodbye again.
“You’re not gonna lose me sunshine. There are these things called phones you know.” He jokes. He gently kisses your forehead.
“You’re a star. So go show the world what you’re made of and when you’re done I’ll be here. I’ve waited twenty years for you and I’d wait twenty more.” You cry harder as you wrap your arms around him.
You’re wrinkling his suit but he doesn’t care. He doesn’t let go of your hand as the two of you head back inside. He doesn’t leave you as you say goodbye and everything is cleaned up. He drives you home and he spends the night showing you how much he’s sorry, how much he’s missed you. You show him how much you need him, how you crave him even after all this time.
As the sun comes up and shines on his bare back you just sit and watch. He’s yours. He’s back and even if you’re going to spend months apart he’ll be here. You repeat that to yourself over and over as he helps you back and as he drives you to the airport. Pressing a kiss to your lips that you’ll think of until the next time you see him again. You don’t want him to let go. You don’t want this to end.
Frankie watches you walk into the airport and he feels his heart break all over again. It’s different this time he tells himself. You’ll come back. The drive home is lonely. The radio plays a sad tune and he hums along. He spends the night just trying to keep busy.
He thinks about calling his old military buddies but he decides against it. They’re all off in their own lives right now anyways. As night falls he lays in bed and stares at the ceiling. Memories of the night before fill his mind. The touch of your hands and the sound of his name falling from your lips.
KNOCK KNOCK
What the hell? He throws off the covers and grabs the bat he keeps next to his bed. Slowly he makes his way downstairs and opens the door. Bat ready to swing at anyone who tried him. Instead he drops it in shock as he sees you standing there with your suitcase.
“Sunshine?” You drop your suitcase and throw yourself at him.
Smashing your lips onto his as he wraps his arms around you. Bringing one hand to cup your face as he deepens the kiss. A flurry of emotions fills his head as you tug at his hair.
“What are you doing here?” He asks breathlessly. He doesn’t let go, instead pulling you closer.
“I was sitting on the plane and I realized that I couldn’t leave you. I called Katie and told her I quit.”
“What! You can’t quit!” He exclaims as you laugh.
“I’m not quitting quitting. Just a few months and I’ll be back.” He hugs you tight and laughs into your neck.
“You’re crazy, you know that?” He kisses you again, pinching himself because this had to be a dream.
“I’m crazy for you Morales.” You wink. You pull him in for another kiss as he shuts the door. Walking clumsily until he hits the couch and falls back onto it.
“I love you sunshine.” He mumbles as he brushes your cheek softly.
“I love you too Frankie.” You fall asleep in his arms on the couch.
Though his back might hate him in the morning he refuses to move. You’re home. You’re here in his arms. Twenty years later but that’s the past. Now it's the two of you against the world. And that's all either of you need.

mrs. mac fanon vs. canon (only because i do think she has a specific fanon within the drake fanon mythos lmao). ETA: now with fixed photos lmao
fanon!mrs. mac
is usually employed by the drakes during tim's childhood
only works about 3 days a week. cleans the house and makes dinner.
is seen as only an employee by jack and janet, and is often thought of with derision as she is only the help and therefore replaceable if she messes up. threat of firing at all times.
sometimes is a huge gossip, sometimes is perceived as very cold by tim (but secretly loves him). regardless she thinks tim is a sweet boy who doesn't deserve to be treated by his parents the way he is but is too afraid to lose her job to do or say anything about it. (or is completely unaware of his treatment)
is not tim's nanny, but after the age of 5 is considered enough help to watch and check in on tim so the drakes don't have to pay a nanny anymore.
canon!mrs. mac (under the cut and image heavy)
is a glorious crotchety old irish housekeeper.
alright, so she was most likely hired after tim and jack move into drake manor following janet's death and jack's coma, and therefore wouldn't have even known janet (but she would have liked janet the best #rip). this isn't explicitly said, but she doesn't show up until the robin iii miniseries: cry of the huntress and it makes the most sense. jack, in a wheelchair, needs more help around the large, new house they bought. it wouldn't have really made sense for jack and janet to have had a dedicated housekeeper prior to this as they had a tendency to move from apartment to apartment and were gone a lot on business, tim was in boarding school. they probably wouldn't have had a need for a dedicated housekeeper without a dedicated home. also, in the secret origins 80 page giant tim remembers his mom setting the table, indicating that they probably just cooked and cleaned for themselves when they were home with tim.
she is a live-in housekeeper. she makes breakfast, lunch, dinner, does laundry, and cleans. she's given time off to do what she enjoys with jack's blessing and basically no complaints from him as seen in detective comics #665 when she goes to the movies and gotham knights #14 when jack mentions her night off
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after jack gets kidnapped again, she's shown to be a bit surprised that he would leave without telling her (they lie to her that he's at a health resort) in detective comics #666 (they also forgot she went to the movies lol)
Tumblr media
she's shown to be a bit talkative and fairly comfortable around her employers. in detective comics #668 she chatters away while doing her job. tim is also shown to know her fairly well and is clearly comfortable enough with her to tease her considering he says "tom brokaw on vacation again?" (tom brokaw was an anchor on nbc nightly news at the time and she probably thought he was handsome or something i assume). she's also comfortable nagging tim "you shouldn't drive until your dad gets home" "we don't even have a car!".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from the start her main character trait is that she's presented as judgmental. in robin iii #3 she derisively refers to teenagers who go to public school as animals, seeing as she thinks that tim got beat up at school. clearly there's a bit of snobbery on her end about the quality of kids who go to public school.
Tumblr media
this judgmentalness tends to focus in on tim (though jack gets it as well!) because mrs. mac is very much a...."youths these days ugh" "the world today ugh" kind of person. in robin 7, she gets upset at the perceived disrespect she feels from tim and gets very huffy about tim's behavior. she's also one for petty revenge for this behavior --which tim is clearly aware of ("a week of cold breakfasts")
Tumblr media
robin #21 is where we get her judgment about ~premarital sex~ not just with tim, but also with jack and dana. she's clearly very unhappy that they spent the night together, blatantly side-eying her employer. and jack isn't upset at all by this treatment by her--if anything he's sheepish and like a kid with their hand caught in the candy jar. like he could get stern with his employee for commenting on his personally choices but jack basically takes the "whoops, sorry, mom" approach. (she also most likely gives dana the stink-eye for at least two weeks after this, i'm sorry, i don't make the rules. she probably always judges dana for this, just a little bit.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she is shown to be very worried about tim when he goes MIA during contagion (because he has the clench) in robin #28, so clearly she is very, very fond of tim
Tumblr media
but at the same time, in accordance with her ~kids these days, in my day they never~ she's often shown as thinking jack is almost too *soft* on tim. clearly, she thinks that teens need a firm hand of discipline (robin #45)
Tumblr media
but despite her feeling like tim is undisciplined and disrespectful, she cares about him a lot (soft heart under a stern visage). in robin #47 she's shown to be making tim's favorite meal to try and get him to eat, even though he's grounded, because he's been listless and depressed since being unable to save a classmate. and in robin #49 after tim runs away she shows genuine regret that she "was so hard on him". and this also is a good glimmer into how her and jack--she's clearly very comfortable dispensing advice and comfort to her employer. jack continues to be very respectful of her and thanks her and confides in her. they have a very warm and close employer-employee relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
robin #60 shows us that her love language is chiding people and she continues to be very "tsk, tsk in my day". also i do feel like this confirms that she could solo the joker, but dc was too cowardly to show us how powerful she is.
Tumblr media
when they move to keystone in robin #62, they teasingly joke about her, but clearly in a very fond and lighthearted way, showing that jack and tim genuinely like her (also, dana got a raise moving to an inpatient rehab facility? lol. ok.). and when then move back in robin #66, jack is too scared to talk to her and makes dana do it. and mrs. mac is implied to cuss them out. clearly the woman has no fear of being fired for insubordination or anything. and jack thinks it's more funny than anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
when jack loses the company and goes "broke", they finally have to let her go in robin #100. and this devastates the drakes, jack included. jack is very agreeable to giving her a bunch of money from selling tim's car as severance and gives her a big old hug when she has leave, showing how much he probably grew to care about her over her years of service. and she's sad to leave the drakes too, showing how fond she is of all of them.
Tumblr media
so mrs. mac, despite being such a minor character, actually has a pretty consistent characterization and very unique relationship with the drakes during her tenure. she's judgmental, but loves all the drakes dearly. she's a bit grouchy and set in her ways and thinks that kids these days are ridiculous. she has a very positive impression of jack, but honestly thinks he's too soft on tim if anything. and the drakes in turn are clearly extremely fond of her. she came into the family at a very sensitive time (jack's paralysis and the recent loss of janet) and is probably very protective of them as a result. she's their employee, but the lines are blurred and she's also somewhat family at the same time. she has no fear of losing her job. she could make the joker quiver in fear. she's old and set in her ways and i love her.

Reader and Edward (twilight) watching a horror movie together!!
Reader likes them, but also gets easily scared also could it be a gn reader please?
Tough-Exterior-Ed
Of course! Thank you for requesting <3
(Yes I'm fully aware the title is not actually a word.)
Fluff/Comfort Edward Cullen x GN!Reader
Warnings: Swearing, hugging (Alice is in it, ofc there's hugging), mentions of axe murderers (in the horror movie)
--
Tumblr media
In the Cullen family kitchen, currently hosting all of the Cullen's, Edward sighed and hung his head.
"They're here."
"You seem disappointed?" Rosalie said it as a question, her iconic scowl settling into place as she looked Edward over.
If only they could hear what was going on inside his head.
"Eddy. Eddy, Eddy, Eddy, Eddy, Eddy. Guess what? I'm here! I'm at your door. Do I need to knock? Edward- I know you can hear me."
With an amused smile Edward just shook his head at Rosalie, the family sharing looks of confusion as Edward made to leave the room.
"Don't embarrass me, please," Edward quietly begged of his family before continuing on his way.
"No promises," Emmett snickered, sharing a look with Jasper and Alice as he wrapped his arm around Rosalie's waist.
As Edward opened the door a very dramatic sigh echoed through the entryway.
"God, I thought you'd never come!"
Edward just rolled his eyes good naturedly and helped (Y/N) out of their coat, trying not to snicker when they muttered "that's what she said" under their breath.
"My family's in the kitchen, if you'd like to meet them," Edward offered, knowing it was their first opportunity to- but not wanting to force them.
"Are you fucking kidding me? Of course I want to meet your super awesome vampire family!" (Y/N) shot Edward an incredulous look and grabbed his hand, pulling him in the direction they assumed was the kitchen.
What Edward liked about (Y/N) was that he didn't have to read their mind to know what they were thinking- mostly because they lacked a social filter and said anything the second it entered their mind. But it made up for some interesting conversations.
"Aha!" (Y/N) cheered as they found the kitchen without Edward's guidance, looking around the kitchen at the vampires. "Hi!" they said, waving.
Alice let out a barely concealed squeal as she dove at (Y/N), wrapping them in a hug. (Y/N) barely got time to reciprocate when Edward pulled them away.
"That's my fault, I shouldn't have offered," Edward somewhat laughed as he led them to the lounge. Yes, this place was a lounge- how could it be a "living room" when (Y/N) was probably the first living person to actually enter it?
"So, what do you want to watc-" (Y/N) was cut off by their own gasp as they saw the shelves holding all the movies the Cullen's had collected.
"Whatever you want is fine by me," Edward said complacently, sitting down on the couch and preparing blankets for when (Y/N) sat next to him.
"Horror- for sure," (Y/N) commented as they dragged their finger across the DVD cases. They pulled a random one out and skimmed the back before popping it out of its case and putting it into the DVD player.
Sliding into the couch (and accompanying burrow of blankets) next to Edward, (Y/N) took the remote and pressed play. The lights in the room dimmed until they turned off completely, the only light shining on their faces from the TV.
Edward sat with his arm over (Y/N)'s shoulder, (Y/N) basically in his lap as their legs were thrown over his.
"No, no- don't go in there!" (Y/N) quietly begged the character on the TV, knowing he couldn't actually hear them.
"You do this every time, you know," Edward mumbled.
"Yeah, but it goes the same way every-" they were cut off as they flinched back into Edward, gripping his hand as the axe murderer on the TV jump scared them.
The night went on like that, only pausing for (Y/N) to select a different horror movie to slip in.
Edward couldn't help but marvel at the fact that (Y/N) found comfort in him, no matter how cold or tough-exterior-ed he might be.
At some point (Y/N) had fallen asleep against his chest, blankets wrapped around their shoulders as they snored. Edward was taking in their face, wanting to reach up and caress their cheek but not wanting to disturb them with his temperature.
That's when he heard the giggles, turning his head to find Alice, Jasper, and Emmett peeking through the doorway. Edward glared in warning and Alice just smiled and dragged the boys off.
End
--
Don't really know where I went with that- I felt that this one was oddly paced. Hoped you liked it though!

Knuckles Arc Anon here for the third and final time, there's a few lore decisions that I just remembered that confuse me.
1.Pachamac's character being completely different. I'm aware Sonic and friends are slightly different than their game versions but there's still the essence of them. Like Sonic still keeps his basic core concept of being a representation of the average teen/kid for example and extreme oversimplication. But Pachamac, I have no problems with Knuckles not being related to him or Pachamac not being from thousands of years in the past. My issue is him being a completely different character especially with the context of movie 2.
Like in the games Pachamac is a bloodthirsty asshole who's desire for power led to the destruction of his empire, unleashing an ancient god, and eventually the extinction of all Echidna. Which knowing the lore in movie 2 would be perfect and easy to adapt (u could ignore Chaos for now)
Why is he chill? It's not even hinted at that he died with regrets and wished he made the right decisions in life to explain this massive change in personality. Personally my theory was while watching is that Pachamac was slowly going to be revealed as being a terrible person who would try to force Knuckles to stick in his warrior mindset.
2. Knuckles who was probably a child or preteen being able to kill or seal Iblis... I'm sorry what? Unless Solaris being split apart just instantly lowered the power levels even more in the movieverse this completely fucks with the power scaling. And normally I don't care about this but this is beyond suspension of disbelief. Like yeah the Echidna tribe warred with the owls since they got the Master Emerald but Knuckles didn't even have the Emerald or all the necessary combat training at like 6? Also Knuckles didn't even use his fire powers in Movie 2 but I think we are left to assume it was part of his quest to get the Master Emerald but we are shown he didn't eve need it.
3. Knuckles was gone at minimum for a few days and Maddie calls him her kid. Why is she not blowing up Wade's phone looking for her kid? Set up suggests him being grounded would come back around but guess not?
i dont think i got ur second ask but yeah. I DO feel like SOMETHING's being set up with Pachacamac, considering they made him specifically the bitch who shot Longclaw in the 2020 movie. I don't think they completely forgot his personality but they were setting something off that either didn't get paid off or hasn't been paid off yet.
Another thing I would have really liked from this series would've been more acknowledgement that Knuckles is a child. He's about 15 when this series takes place. He shouldn't be thinking like this, Sonic's right he should be playing video games and reading comic books. Once again I feel like the first ep was setting that shit up and then they just. Forgot.
but anyway that's enough negativity lmao i just woke up with some awful cramps so im gonna watch the second movie til i pass out

I have a bone to pick here
I read an article about the new Percy Jackson series and it was just.... infurating to say the least
The article picked to the bone Walker's, Leah's and Aryan's acting wich, I will say, isn't the best, but they are children that barely had any big roles and I feel like picking on them for that is just so under the belt.
It said that the storyline was rushed but that is to be expected with a book that has 20-something chapter being turned into a show. Anyone who was expecting the show to respect the pacing and the exact plot of the books to a T has unrealistic expectations.
Tumblr media
What this article and it's author don't understand is that this show was made for fans by fans and, unlike what the author has written, the show can stand on it's own. It's perfectly enjoyable even when you aren't a fan of the books, because it actually explains stuff as you go along.
Also, "draw in parents that are stuck watching"? Ma'am, the kids that are watching this are definitely old enough to watch shit on their own. The creator made it for the kids that are watching who, by the way, are mostly in middle school.
Just to prove how stupid this whole article is:
Tumblr media
The author admitted that it gets better, and putting all the words that she just wrote into the trash.
And the other stuff that she complained about? The casting famous actors in the series that add nothing to it (1) ? The series not having as much flair as a Hollywood production (2) ? The fact that the show is sticking to the book is risking the quality of it (3) ?
1. It's not the first or the last show to do this, tens of shows have done this exact formula
2.Once again, this is to be expected. If you're making a series with several 30 minutes episodes you're going to have a thighter buget that if you were making one 1 hour movie
3. As the author said, she isn't a reader, so I feel like she shouldn't be the judge of this. To readers, sticking to the og plot as much as posible is crucial when adapting a series. Making it familiar to fans of the books assures that you already have a set audience. The "risking the quality for audenticity" part? Bs really, doesn't make sense
So, the conclusion to this is that this author had no clue what she was writing
Thank you for coming to my TED talk

After everything that you and the gang had been through, you and Steve decided it would be a great idea to just have a night to yourselves just like the good old days.
No worrying about monsters, or creepy dimensions. Just the two of you, eating junk food and watching crappy movies. And that's exactly what you'se did.
You were currently seated on Steve's living room couch and he was in the kitchen making some popcorn for the both of you. The TV was playing whatever channel his parents left it on this morning, and was currently acting as background noise for the both of you.
Steve had made some dumb pun about popcorn, and you wheezed your lungs out as if it was the most hilarious thing ever.
He made his way back to the living room, and plopped down next to you with a steaming bowl of popcorn in his hand. "You know, I've missed hanging out, like just us, no babysitting and no Robin making fun of me for having no dates." Steve said looking at you with a small glint in his eye.
"Yeah, but it'll never be the same from back when we were kids."
"You're right, neither of us are stupid enough to steal ten candy bars for our movie nights anymore."
You gasped, remembering when you'se were twelve. "Oh my god! I remember that."
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
"Stevie we shouldn't be doing this.. what if we get caught?" You whined quietly close behind steve as he snuck through the aisles, looking for his desired snack.
"Shh you big baby, we won't get caught, and if we do I'll take all the blame anyway." He reasured you.
"You better not be lying, or I swear to God, I'll stuff those candies down your throat Steven."
Steve had stuffed about eight of the bars down his pants and handed two over to you to stuff up your sleeves. You two were both headed to the door when none other than Cheif Hopper stepped in your way. "And where do you think you two are going?"
You and Steve both gulped. You were about to start lying your ass off but it seems Steve had other plans. "It was all [y/n]'s idea, they forced me to do it, they even threatened me!" Steve shouted at him.
Your mouth hung open as he shifted all the blame to you.
"You lying bi-"
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
"You still haven't apologised for that by the way!"
"I shouldn't have to, we got away with just a warning anyway."
"Harrington I swear to God, if you don't apologise for it right now I'll suffocate you with the pillows."
"I have nothing to apologise for." He said confidently
"You can't be serious," You shifted your whole body to look over at him. "I got in trouble from not just by my mum, but Hopper came by my house to tell me off too. I think that warrants an apology."
"Nope, no I don't think so, cause from what I recall, I did end up saying it was pay back."
"Pay back for what exactly?"
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You and Steve were walking along Lovers Lake, it was a muggy day and you'se both just wanted to cool down.
"Stevie, what's the point in being here if we aren't going swimming?"
"It's cooler near the water, and you never said you wanted to go for a swim."
"Well if I had known we'd be going to the lake today, I would've bought my swimmers."
"Well that's just too bad for you isn't it?"
if looks could kill, Steve would be six feet under right now. That is until you got a brilliant idea. You walked closer to Steve, he was walking on the edge of the lake meaning you'd have more leverage. I'm sure you can see where this is going.
You grabbed both his shoulders and forced him to face you, "Hey Stevie I have something really important to tell you and you can't tell anyone, okay?" He nodded his head quickly and you leaned in close to him as if you were about to tell him a secret. But at the very last moment you pushed your hands infront of you and he was caught off guard. Stumbling then falling into the water below him.
He looked up at you in shock, what you didn't realise however was the mischievous glint in his eyes. While you were busy laughing, Steve had grabbed your leg and pulled you into the shallow water with him.
"Steve!"
"What? It's pay back."
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
"You had already gotten pay back that same day! Which means you still owe me an apology."
"Shit I forgot I did that."
"Mhm," You were looking at him with that same look five years ago. "Now where's my apology Harrington?"
"Hey, don't last name me, [L/n]." He said, voiced laced in sarcasm. "And fine, I'm totally, and utterly sorry that I shifted the blame to you little miss goody two shoes."
"Real mature Stevie boy, but that apology wasn't good enough, thus I don't forgive you."
" 'Thus'? What are you Shakespear?"
"By God you really are stupid."
"Hey! I'm not stupid.. You're stupid."
"Fine, if I can't get a proper apology and I'm being insulted then I'm not sharing the pizza I ordered for us." You obviously didn't mean it, you weren't exactly hungry enough to be eating an entire pizza tonight, but you needed some leverage.
Steve opened his mouth to speak but his parents ended up walking in through the front door and greeted him, before they turned toward you. "Steve who is this, I wasn't aware you were going to be having a guest over."
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Harrington, I'm [Y/n]." You greeted them with a wave.
"Ah so you're the famous [Y/n], Steve's told us so much about you. I didn't know you two were having a date tonight, Stevie why didn't you tell us? We would have come home later."
"Date? Mrs. Harrington me and Steve aren't dating." You laughed awkwardly. "We're just friends."
"Well with all the things he's told us about you, we assumed you two had started dating."
"Okay mum, that's enough. You and dad should head upstairs, we'll keep the noise down."
"Oh well it was lovely to finally meet you dear."
"It was lovely to meet you'se too!"
"Use protection." His father said pointing at Steve. Did he just miss that entire conversation?
His parents headed upstairs and you held in a laugh until you heard their bedroom door close.
"So ugh, you talk about me, huh?"
"Yeah I guess I do," He said awkwardly. "Actually I did wanna talk about something with you tonight."
"Yeah?"
"I've ugh, I've had a bit of a crush on you since you tripped in front of me when we were nine."
"Oh I'm well aware Harrington."
"W-what?"
"You're like an open book, and you suck at hiding your emotions, it's always written on your face."
"Why did you never say anything?"
"Oh my god just shut up and ask me out already."

SHIPPER TAG GAME
LET'S GOOOOO~ tagged by @negrowhat
Tumblr media
1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore?
Glorestor or Glorfindel / Erestor of Middle Earth Fanon Fame. Not that I don't CARE about it anymore, mind you. There's just not enough new content (for obvious reasons god it's old and there's like one conversation of original source material). I don't think about them as much anymore. Like I used to be reading fanfic EVERY NIGHT and we're talking like novel length fanfics (as you can imagine people in the LOTR fandom write lol). Anyway here's some super old fan art... (>u<)
Tumblr media
2. Which ship would you consider your first one?
Oh god...something Dynasty Warriors related for sure...
Probably like Sun Ce / Zhao Yu or Gan Ning / Lu Xun. (GO WU! lol) I feel like there were other couples I'm totally forgetting right now...but yeah god I love Dynasty Warriors...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also...daaamn Gan Ning looks good there I should go buy the latest game. (>w<)
3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple?
Like the first one I wrote or read?? I went into my oldest of old "old writing" folders and found this list of docs that I haven't been touched in over ten years. SO I'm gonna saaaay it was a Dynasty Warriors fanfic...one of these pairings. (^ ^;)
Also kind of hilarious to see that I literally still organize my fanfic files in the same way for over half my fucking life ago...nice...
Tumblr media
4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over?
I feel like it would have been something Inuyasha related. That or something Final Fantasy X. I do not remember, but it was probably some version of these scene.
Tumblr media
5. Did you ever get into ship discourse?
Not that I can remember...do not need this in my life...lol but maybe I've reblogged some RPF like discourse? Like the "should or shouldn't you ship" type discussions. I'm on the side of "do whatever you want but don't send it to the famous people" [ex. like ATEEZ fanfic/fanart] or "if they are literally doing it as part of their promo go ahead, it's for fun/they literally requested it as part of their promo" [ex. BillyBabe]. (^ ^;)
Tumblr media
6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently?
It honestly always depends on the quality of the fanart or the fanfic because even a notp can turn into a OH!tp if it's good enough. [Exhibit a: my Phaya/Tharn/Chalothorn fanfic]
7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?
Weirdly the one new Chalothon/Singh fic from The Sign. But I really need AO3 to fix the spelling of his name in the tag...
Tumblr media
8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?
PhayaTharn are the current obsession~
Tumblr media
Look at them...adorable...
9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?
Still wish John Wick / Santino fucked...also like James Bond / Q and The Protagonist / Neil and Arthur / Eames...bromance is SUCH a waste but considering the genres of these movies it is never gonna happen...I have to wait for the Thai BL versions lol (^ ^;)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?
OH I haven't been traumatized by watched it yet, but Dead Friends Forever has made me get onboard with Macau/Chay of KinnPorsche fame because OMG LOOK AT THESE CUTIES!!!!
Tumblr media
11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?
GOD I remember there was a LOT of Sesshomaru x Inuyasha yaoi when I was a kid LMFAO like...straight up cancelled...I dunno if it was normal back then but no yaoi was normal back then so like it sadly all got lumped together or something...then again looking at some of the comics that are coming out these days...
Tumblr media
12. What was your favorite crack ship?
All the McFassy ships from back in the day like OMG REMEMBER JUNGKOV?? STELIOS AND LETO??? ARCHIE AND ROBBIE? SO MANY CROSSOVERS!!
LOL Sorry that just brought me back LOL
Tumblr media
13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics of?
Ahhhh I don't know...I usually either write a lot or read a lot...I literally have a fic rec list for Glorestor lol and then when I look in my AO3 bookmarks the top ship is Hannigram sooooo let's say Hannigram even though I haven't read one for a while.
Tumblr media
14. What most of your ships usually have in common?
toll and smol...i like me a toll and a smoll...lol or big and small...i dunno something something contrast something something just crush him and/or be uncharacteristically gentle or somehow incapacitate the larger man with your wiles...that is all...
Tumblr media
15. What do you absolutely hate in a ship?
Miscommunication < seconding @negrowhat's response. Cannot stand it. Such a boring trope. Very annoying for me (the audience).

Your hot take on the boys and invincible kinda piss3d me off, not cause I totally disagree, but only because superhero media as a whole is lazy. Specifically for these two, though? The boys isn't just evil superman, it's corporate owned supervillainy, vigilantes who don't have powers, and yeah the shock value gets too much sometimes but like clearly you haven't seen it. And invincible is about a kid (son of superman) who is betrayed by his idol and forced to fight him and lose. Maybe don't judge so quickly!!
What, I have to watch the entire show to judge it?
That would necessitate that I take time out of my day to watch something that I don't like.
And if I watched the entirety of both, and still hated it, you'd tell me I shouldn't watch things I "hate" and I should just leave you and your dumb opinions alone.
So we're discarding that part of your argument because it's pointless.
oh wait.
but that's your entire argument.
hm.
well.
ok. let's talk anyway.
so first off. you just said that superhero media as a whole is lazy.
that's quite a generalization to make about a genre.
I don't disagree but you're giving me shit for saying deconstructions of super hero movies are worse, to me personally, than super hero movies themselves, when you just made a blanket opinion statement disguised as a fact.
Think about that for a second.
Then I wanna talk about the whole "it's about politics" and "subversion of superman" schtick.
you're telling me that the boys is about politics, and invincible is an alien invasion story.
yet neither of those things need to be told through a superhero angle. they just are because of the superhero hype justifying their existence in the market.
and that's fine and all... but to me that's what they are.
gimmicks based on what was hot at the time, which was super heroes.
so they don't exist without the superhero genre to make fun of. they don't have relevance except by being reactionary.
and that's a lame selling point for me.
super hero movies have been dying lately, and frankly, I didn't even know invincible had a season 2 until I saw invincible had popped up on fortnite.
and even then I didn't see anyone talking about it, aside from the shock value of the rape scene.
but don't worry. we'll get to that.
as for the boys, well, I don't know, it could last for some time... but do deconstructions that wallow in misery and mega angst and are highly topical based on the year they were released really stand the test of time?
I don't know. we'll see.
all I know is that no one anticipated the fall of marvel after the success of Endgame...
but look at it now.
The Marvels, Antman 3, Madame Web... the lackluster performance of DC...
if you look back at the boys 50 years from now, what will you see?
a satire of the Justice League.
but it's not something on its own.
at least watchmen, as garbage as it is, has unique characters and a weird, but mildly interesting take on history.
the boys is like oh what if there was a world where superheroes existed and they killed people?
yeah that'll stand the test of time I'm sure.
Spiderman has lasted this long because he's relatable. He was the prime example of a changing genre, that allowed its heroes to be more down to earth.
Batman has his gothic detective thing, and you can tell so many stories with him, as he's just an ordinary man, who's also coincidentally a huge freak at the same time. what's not relatable about that?
And even Superman... oh, so he's boring because he's a good person?
yeah. sure. I don't particularly like him. I don't think he's that deep.
but his popularity did come from the basic idea that people should be good to each other.
what is the average jackass going to learn or remember from the boys?
oh that homelander likes drinking breast milk.
gee, that's relatable.
also that the deep fucked an octopus.
because haha... Aquaman, am I right?
so.
now let's move on to shock value.
It sucks.
the boys is made for people who hate super heroes.
it's fine to hate super heroes, but Jesus Christ.
you hate them so much that you make them edgy. you make them rapists and mass murderers. you make them do nasty shit just because you wanna make someone vomit.
like. ok.
I don't like shock value in anything, not even horror movies.
if there's no plot reason for it, then I don't want to see it.
but the boys is all about throwing in sex scenes wherever they can, and making them as fucking weird as they can just because "oh we're not marvel."
yeah. I know that. even marvel pretends to have a story from time to time.
the boys literally starts off with a fucking 90s ass rape revenge story. like seriously?
so revolutionary ahahaha.
with a guy who fucks animals.
and is meant to be sympathetic later on because he's pathetic.
soo soooo deep.
good rape revenge plot.
reminds me of the misogyny of blade runner, and the director saying well I'm objectifying women because sexism exists in real life.
gee thanks, guy.
forgive me if I was turned off by a show that immediately sexually assaulted its main female character.
I'm a triggered snowflake, hahah, you got me.
but when I look at all this, it's like...
I never got into game of thrones because I never liked the mega edge lord plot of that either.
but at least game of thrones was doing something different with a genre, rather than just making a satire or parody of the genre.
it stands on its own.
the boys relies entirely on shock value and superheroes having sex in depraved ways.
it might have some valid political commentary somewhere in its messy gory insides, but nothing I couldn't get, and much better, from the Wire.

My The Secret History fancast + thoughts on an adaptation (LONG)
Hey guys just screaming into the void here and brainrotting about The Secret History (a Tumblr rite of passage it seems)--but not exactly for the reasons you'd expect. Anyway, I was watching a video essay on why The Secret History shouldn't get made into a film and I found myself disagreeing with a lot of the points the author made (respectfully). A few of their points: 1. The Secret History couldn't get made today because it uses language that uses too many slurs.
I understand how the use of such offensive language (I believe in the book it was homophobic/racist, and mainly from Bunny Corcoran), even when employed with the relevant context and blatantly disapproved of, can still be harmful to hear. But I also know that there are definitely college students today who (unfortunately) regularly use that language, despite the more politically correct world we live in. I also think that responsible screenwriters would take care to add the appropriate weight to those scenes and ALSO point out the more "liberal" characters' own prejudices evidenced in their dialogue (they definitely have them in the book), as Get Out did. IMO those moments were more sinister than the cringe Bunny scenes.
2. The Secret History as a movie would be romanticized instead of being viewed as the critique/satire that it is.
Sure. I fuck with the dark academia aesthetic as much as any other bitch, but... oh my god it was impossible for me to romanticize anything in this book because it was genuinely triggering to read. I grew up with the study of Greek philosophy and mythology being a big part of my life (don't ask), and I went to a small elite liberal arts college in New England. As a freshman, I remember feeling the way Richard did at the beginning of the novel, caught up in the small intellectual, rich friend groups, the rural New England lifestyle, the college debauchery. But I read this book with a lot more experience under my belt and, boy, you come to see through all these characters REAL quick. These rich kids are so puffed up on their intellectualism that they think they can escape the consequences of their actions--it sounds a lot like nearly every motherfucker I met at my college! And Professor Julian is just an older and more hypocritical version of these students, preaching on and on about morality and haphazardly applying theory to elevate themselves above the "common folk." Donna Tartt really captured the frustrating, out of touch, self-important attitude that runs rampant at these privileged institutions. I wouldn't say that's a difficult thing to translate to film as it's been done before (Succession being one of the most prominent examples). And yes, of course there may be a portion of the audience that may choose to ignore the critique/don't necessarily possess critical thinking skills and you'd end up with an American Psycho situation (re: the glorification of Patrick Bateman), but I believe that also had more to do with the fact that American Psycho's critique was in satire form--the humor gave way to memes that removed context from the story. Meanwhile, The Secret History's less likely to be memed because the satire is not absurdist--it's also really fucking obvious that it is a critique because it's written like a Greek tragedy where none of the characters are redeemable at the end of it. Will it be used for Pinterest boards and Tumblr graphics? Sure, but that doesn't necessarily strip away context--just popularizes an aesthetic. And such a thing serves the theme of the story (the obsession with aesthetics above all, especially during the rise of the 80s hyperconsumer culture) as meta-commentary/transmedia storytelling (that parallels our own generation's obsession with using consumption to form our aesthetics and identity).
3. The cast of The Secret History would be predominantly white because that's how it was in the book and that whiteness is an important aspect of depicting the characters' privilege and ability to navigate the situations they find themselves in.
I agree, yes, a good adaptation of this novel would likely be one that had the students/Julian be white, but that also doesn't necessarily exclude POC representation in yet another movie. I think stories that blatantly criticize rich white people, while trendy at the moment, are important when done correctly (Succession!)--AND there are definitely characters that do not have to be white that I think are plenty important (I think Judy and Cloke could be interesting here given Richard's uncharitable depiction of them as unintellectual drug users. Playing into stereotypes is NOT the goal, I think they are foils to the main group in some sense and also come out of this tragedy more or less untouched) (also, you know, the rich white main group do more illicit substances and crimes than they do which I think adequately reflects reality). Adding more POC characters that might not be inner circle but could also be main characters wouldn't be impossible in an adaptation and might help with the point below--I'm thinking detectives, other students and professors, etc. And depending on whether or not you're updating this for the modern day or keeping it in the 80s, I think there's a lot you can play with if Richard Papen was casted as an Asian American (as one myself, having watched the car crash that was the overturning of affirmative action this summer,,, it just feels like there's a lot you can do with that) (I agree with the essayist that making Richard Papen John Boyega might not do a whole lot for Black representation--it feels like there's a certain amount of setting him up with that fancast).
4. The Secret History wouldn't lend itself well to an adaptation because the novel relies mostly on Donna Tartt's prose than anything that could be translated to a filmic structure.
This point I just do not agree with at ALL. I mean, Tartt's prose is excellent of course, and it is told from Richard's perspective, yeah. But here, I just have to point you to Jean-Marc Valee's Sharp Objects or Big Little Lies, based on books. Both are murder mysteries, both are slow burn with plenty of introspective, quiet moments, both are masterful adaptations. What carried me through the novel wasn't the prose but the growing magnitude of dread that spoils the romance of the whole deal. There are so many layers of intrigue too--the enigmatic Julian, the exclusiveness of the group, what mysterious activities they're up to, why Bunny is acting out, whether he'll rat on them, and THEN--will they get away with the murders, will Charles or anyone else in the group confess, will Henry kill again, on and on. Richard's corruption arc was also super fascinating too me--you start out rooting for this guy and at the end he's just like the rest of them. It would be cool to explore the arcs of the rest of the characters as well, even before their murder anxieties. The point is, there is so much material that, if laid out meticulously enough, would make a film or a tv series a medium to enhance the original story's themes and characters.
And now, for the Tumblr tradition: fancast (extremely self-indulgent and incredibly unrealistic)
Richard Papen - Justin H Min
Bro I loved him in The Umbrella Academy I needed more
Tumblr media
Henry Winter - Wilbur Soot
Tumblr media
LOL alternatively Jacob Elordi but Wilbur Soot is just stubbornly what my mind visualized as I was reading
Bunny Corcoran - Dacre Montgomery
Tumblr media
He has the charming smarmy bastard typecast DOWN
Francis Abernathy - Alex Wolff
Tumblr media
I need to see him in more things!!!
Charles Macaulay - Drew Starkey
Tumblr media
I think he plays psycho brothers pretty well
Camilla Macaulay - Elle Fanning
Tumblr media
I mean Gwyneth Paltrow was 100% the right choice but unfortunately that did not materialize... however Elle Fanning slayed in The Great and she's so underrated as an actress

Get To Know My OC Tag!
Tumblr media
This'll probably be the first of many since this was sooo much fun to do lol.
I was going to do this with Steph… but I felt more drawn towards El today for some reason. Probably because I've been editing a lot more of her scenes/chapters lately. So Elise, I choose you!
Thank you for tagging me, @gummybugg!
Let's begin!
__________
The door opens, and 18-year-old Elise Kennedy enters the room. She walks with graceful strides that indicates the quiet confidence she holds within her. She is a pretty girl - long wavy blonde hair styled in a messy bun, crystal clear blue eyes sparkling with joy and curiosity (despite being baggy from that high school stress and sleep deprivation), and a bright beaming smile that honestly does a better job of lighting up the room than my terrible cheap lamp does. She appears to be about 5'6, if I'm not wrong.
She extends a hand in greeting, radiating an immediate sense of warmth and sincerity. Her voice, I notice straight away is soft warm and gentle. It carries an undertone enough to put you at ease in an instant. Then she takes her seat.
I know I've only just met her, but she seems nice.
1) Are you named after anyone?
Elise: Uh, no. Not after a person, I don't think. Although, I do know how I got my name. My late grandmother was really into classical music, and she came up with the suggestion of "Elise" for me when I was born because one of her favourite pieces of music was "Für Elise" by Beethoven. When I was little, she actually taught me how to play it on the piano, too! That was a fun time… yeah. But to answer your question, no. Not that I know of.
2) When was the last time you cried?
Elise: I don't know… hmm, let me think. This is actually a deep question when you think about it.
Me: It is??
Elise: Wait! Do you mean, like proper crying? Bawling like a baby? Or do you mean like welling up, but not actually making a sound?
Me: Uh…
Elise: If you mean the first one, then probably last week. I was watching a really sad movie with my brother, and I just couldn't help it. If you mean the second one, then… I don't know. To be honest, it happens on a regular basis. So probably yesterday or something. I try not to be overly emotional all the time, but I'm a sensitive soul, what can I say? (pause) OH! I remember now!
Me: You do?
Elise: It was two weeks ago! Ok, let me explain - I have this friend who really loves music. His name is Bret, and something he likes to do as a hobby is write and produce his own songs, right? And two weeks ago, he sent me an email with a link to his SoundCloud. He posts all his songs there now, its amazing! Anyway, he asked me for feedback on the first song he uploaded on there. So I listened to it, and it made me cry. It was very deep and moving. I loved it… (laughs awkwardly) I feel like my answers are way too long, ha-ha! Sorry about that.
Me: Don't be sorry. This is good!
Elise: I'll send you a link to Bret's SoundCloud! You need to listen to it yourself, so you know what I'm talking about.
Me: Would your friend mind?
Elise: Uh… (pauses for a while to wonder whether or not Bret would actually mind) Probably not?
3) Do you have kids?
Elise: Uh, no. Nor do I want any - at least not right now. I'm still a school kid! (pause) I know I'm 18, so legally I count as an adult, but I still feel like a kid, honestly. And I think that just as a general rule, if you feel like a kid or act like a kid, you probably shouldn't raise a kid.
4) Do you use sarcasm?
Elise: (thinks for a moment, then nods) Yeah. Not as often as some people do, but sometimes it's just necessary, especially when you're dealing with difficult or incompetent people.
5) What's the first thing you notice about people?
Elise: I feel like I'm naturally quite good at reading people, you know? Like, even with people I don't know all that well, I can just look at them and have a good idea of how they're feeling, what their thinking, what they're like. And it's usually pretty accurate, as well. I'm quite intuitive in that sense. I think this is also the reason I connect well with others even if they're very different from me. Like, I'm an introvert, and I'm generally rather quiet and mind my own business most of the time, but quite a lot of my friends are super energetic extroverted people. I think its fun to be curious, you know? Like, taking the time to understand and empathise with a person. You form closer bonds with people that way.
6) What's your eye colour?
Elise: Blue! You see? (opens eyes wide so that I can see their colour)
7) Any special talents?
Elise: Hmm. I don't know if any of my talents count as "special" or anything. I have talents… like, back when I used to perform in my old choir, I was known for being able to hold notes for really, really long. My record back then was like 47 seconds. But it's been years since then, and I probably can't do it anymore. Anything else? (pauses to think for a second) Don't know whether this counts, but I'm really good at memorising things. My brother says I have a memory sharper than a katana… which I think says everything you need to know about him. (laughs) But like, to give an example, I can read a book and basically be able to quote it word for word afterwards. Or watch a show, and be able to recite every line in a given scene. It's quite helpful as a student, actually. Makes the studying process a bit smoother. Not that I don't work hard for my grades, because I do. I don't consider myself to be a mega-super-genius or anything.
8) Scary movies or happy endings?
Elise: Are you kidding me?! Happy ending all the way! I can't sit through a horror movie for the life of me. I hate scary stuff, I just don't like the feeling of terror. I don't get why some people actually like it. I mean some people have to like it, right? There has to be a reason that the horror genre has a market.
9) Where were you born?
Elise: Born and raised in London, baby!
10) What are your hobbies?
Elise: Reading, first of all. I love to read so much. I always have.
Me: What is the book you're reading currently?
Elise: Right now, I'm re-reading "Normal People" by Sally Rooney. It's so good, I highly recommend it. But aside from reading, I like music a lot. Not as much as Bret, but I love to play a bit of piano whenever I have the time, and I also love to sing still. Even though I'm not in my old choir anymore.
Me: Why did you stop if you clearly loved doing it?
Elise: (sighs) It was a toxic environment for me… I needed a break from some of those people. I don't really want to get into it.
Me: Ooookay… (slightly concerned)
11) Do you have any pets?
Elise: No, and I've always wanted one! (pouts) It didn't even matter what it was! My parents aren't about that, though. Ugh! (pause) Maybe in the future, I'll get a puppy. I love dogs so much!
12) What sports do you play/have played?
Elise: None. (laughs) I've never been a sporty person.
13) How tall are you?
Elise: Five foot five. And a bit, depending on what shoes I'm wearing.
14) Favourite subject in school?
Elise: These questions are getting harder… (laughs) I don't know what my favourite subject is. I like all my subjects… I chose four subjects I really enjoy for A level. English Lit, Politics, History and Textiles. I like all of them for different reasons. Even when I struggle with one of them, and it is my least favourite one day, I can't bring myself to hate it… and it ends up being my favourite subject the next day.
Me: Well, tell me why you like all of your subjects.
Elise: Ok! So English Lit is because I love literature, as you may have inferred before from what I said about reading… Politics is because I just find that aspect of the world interesting, you know? I mean, I never used to, but once I started taking this class, I just found it fascinating. Just seeing how that stuff works. History was my strongest subject back when I did my GCSEs, so I was like "I have to do it again next year!" And Textiles… I don't know, I just find it peaceful. It's a chill subject to balance out the crazy intense ones. (laughs again)
15) Dream job?
Elise: In my dreams, I have all kinds of different jobs. Just last night I had a dream that I was this therapist, right, and all of my friends from work were coming into my office to ask for help with their love lives, despite the fact that I literally have no dating experience and am therefore the least qualified person to ask for help in that department. Man… why would you even go to your therapist just to ask about your love life anyway? Is that the only thing in your life that's bothering you?! The ONLY thing?!
Me: …That's not what I meant.
Elise: Yeah, I know. I just wanted to talk about my weird dream for a second. I don't know what my dream job is. As a child, my dream job was to be an author, like Cressida Cowell. I used to love her books growing up. I wanted to write just like her… create this huge epic fantasy series… have that series get turned into movies… but I couldn't come up with any original ideas. So I gave up.
Me: Awww…
Elise: Oh, it's okay. I still write a bit sometimes for fun. But in terms of an actual career, I'm stuck between two things - a lawyer, and a journalist.
Me: Two completely different things.
Elise: Yep. Lawyer because it's something I've been working towards all my life, pretty much. I mainly did it because my parents always said that it's a promising career to have. But journalism is just so fascinating to me. It's like being a writer, except you don't need to come up with original ideas. Plus, you get to explore the world, discover exciting new people and places and cultures and events… and tell stories that don't often get heard. It's like the career was made for me!
Me: It does, doesn't it? Well, I'm sure you'll make the right choice for yourself. Thanks for coming, Elise. This has been fun.
Elise: Of course! Thank you for having me.
END OF INTERVIEW.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...
Hello!
So I know you sent this awhile ago and I took ages to get to it, but I just really wanted to do this justice because this is such a big ask and I take my responsibilities as a fan very seriously. I'm also going to have to caveat the fact that "all of the media that I have loved" is too many media to be able to truly answer this question with 100% accuracy, so instead, I opted for
My Top 10 Favorite Characters (In Recent Memory) That I Feel Best Portray What I Love In Characters (But I'm Very Sorry To Anyone Who Should've Been On This List But I Just Kind of Forgot) in no particular order:
Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen)
I am sorry to be a basic bitch, but Gojo may be my favorite character in anything ever. I hate that I am so predictable, but the white haired anime character trope absolutely kills me. Also, I am obsessed with a character who is like... too op to function, but also still very flawed. Also characters who are Sunshine Silly Goofs on the surface but so haunted and devastating under the surface. I admire the way he's The Great Protector of everyone but also makes sometimes callous choices, and I am obsessed with the fact that he is essentially the god of their world, but is still just... so very fragile and human. Also, like, he's so hot. Just so hot. That's also important.
2. Daddy Nanami (Jujutsu Kaisen)
I literally cannot stand watching this show. Like I want to throw up watching it because I love these bitches so much. Anyway, I tried REALLY hard not to like Nanami. Like I fought it so hard because he was obviously a doomed character from his intro, but I could not stop myself because I love the Sulky Blonde anime character trope for some reason, but also like... he's so hot. I want to watch him do my taxes. Also like... he's so relatable. Doesn't want to work overtime. Doesn't want to keep playing this shitty game where everyone dies young and bathes in the blood of teenagers, but also like, what? You expect him to work in corporate hell? Just let people die? He's not gonna fucking do that. He's that voice of reason every anime group probably needs, but he's also so hot, and like so grumpy but so kind, and so Responsible and Mature, but also so soft, and I love the way he takes care of those damn kids, okay? I just... *runs away sobbing*
3. Kurapika (HunterxHunter)
My favorite trope when I was younger was the "looks like they could kill you but is actually a sweetie" thing, but as I've gotten older, I've really come to appreciate what it is to be fully capable of being an all-powerful, cold-blooded killer and just... choose not to do that. Kurapika is the epitome of "character I just want to hug and protect forever" because he's been through so much and it's only made him stronger, but also like he shouldn't have to go through all that? And I adore that he's so mature and so strong and so capable and he protects everyone and puts villains in their place and all that jazz but he's also just a sweet kid who loves his friends and I love him so much oh my god.
4. Gao Yizhi (Iron Widow)
(See above regarding Kurapika) I have talked about Iron Widow as one of my favorite books of all time, but while Li Shimin is just a fabulous fucking character who once upon a time definitely would've been my favorite, Gao Yizhi stole my heart by just... being pretty... like soft pretty boy but also don't look at him too long because the devil burns behind his eyes and he will kill you. That is the finest of aesthetics, but also like... this man is so concerning. I would not trust him for a moment. And yet, he is just whipped for Wu Zetian, and that is literally what everyone should look for in a boyfriend.
5. Dazai (Bungou Stray Dogs)
Speaking of concerning, I first fell in love with Dazai because I loved how much he wants to die (don't call the cops, this was like a decade ago, and I am better now), but tbh I love how cute and silly and flirty he is on the surface to cover up the fact that he is just a downright nightmare of a human being. This man is a menace. He could kill literally anyone. And in another life, he probably would have, but now he's just chilling, taking care of his kids and fucking with his ex, and I love that for him. He is literally the perfect villain, and yet... he's not really doing anything that bad anymore. Go figure.
(Also, sidenote, I recently read No Longer Human, and not only did it give me a profound appreciation for Osamu Dazai as a person, but it really put his character into context that makes me adore this show even more, so yeah.)
6. Shinobu (Demon Slayer)
She is so mad. She is so angry. Yet she is a cutesy little girl in butterfly garb floating around saving people, I--yeah, it's very clear from this list that I have a type, but whatever. I love Shinobu because she's small and tiny and sweet, but she's also a major badass who can and will kill you. She's the only hashira who's physically too weak to decapitate demons so she kills them with poison, like??? This girl said "the gods didn't make me powerful, so I made me powerful", and that is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. She's surviving on spite alone, and she's whooping everyone's asses that way. An icon. A true hero. I adore her.
7. Vanitas (The Case Study of Vanitas)
This one's back to my roots, but I love a tragic character like Vanitas. I just... I love a man so broken you have to wonder if he's even a person anymore. I love how wretched and painful and horrific his past is and how divorced he feels from humanity, and also like those little claws get me every time. Idk. I know, I'm weird. Whatever. The flippant, antagonistic, flamboyance on the surface to cover an empty, wretched, devastated soul underneath just struggling to survive? *chef's kiss*
8. Scorpion King (Word of Honor)
Scorpion King is basically the opposite of all my above examples, but I love him for the same reasons. This is a man who is heartless, ruthless, an absolute murderer. He kills for fun. He has no regard for human life... EXCEPT HIS FUCKING GODFATHER. Like this is a villain who could easily have burned the entire world with his cunning and power and literally all he wanted was for his dad to fucking love him??? He would have broken himself down day in and day out just for that affection, and that's the sort of sick, twisted, vile love I want to see in a villain. Just the sort of absolutely poisoned, twisted, abusive affection that makes me absolutely feral. He could have been the ULTIMATE villain, and he was absolutely DESTROYED because he just wanted to be LOVED. Delicious.
9. Muichiro (Demon Slayer)
This is a BABY. Just... A BABY!!! Literally a tragic character, but what I love about him is just how casually perfect he is. He's supposed to be weak, pathetic, useless. He is NOT. He comes off kind of airheaded at the beginning, but he is truly just... the most impressive. I want to protect him always, but also, everyone should be scared of him. (Except me, I am good to him so he will be kind to me in turn :))
10. Crowley (Good Omens)
Once again, an exceptional villain. Or, you know, could be, except he fell in love with an annoying fucking angel so now he's barely a menace, mostly just kind of a fool who wastes his time around a bookshop all day (both relatable and kinda aspirational, ngl). I love Crowley both because he is so not evil that it's actually kinda funny despite having all the evil energy and aesthetic, but the thing I love MOST about him is the way he just absolutely spits in the face of gender. Gender who? He wouldn't know. He is all gender. He is no gender. He is the divine lord of gender, and I worship at his feet in the hopes that he'll give me a little gender as a treat. Just truly a trans icon AND a menace at the same time, and I can think of nothing better. (Also, I have a thing for David Tennant. Always have. His accent does things for me so this doesn't help. Whoops.)
Anyway, yes, this concludes my Top 10 Characters [blah, blah...] List. If you are not familiar with any of the above media, I highly recommend them, but also like... these are not Wholesome(tm) and simple media. I like weird shit. If that was not obvious from my talking about these freaks, now you know. Be warned.
Also thank you for the ask!!!

For the ship ask, Ed & Winry, Aragorn & Arwen, and Steve & Sharon, please?
Ooh, nice variety! And I ship all of them ^_^
EdWin
What made you ship it?
You know, I actually can't remember when I first started shipping them? It just seemed so obvious they were meant to be, I guess XD Maybe it was in the Barry the Chopper episode in the first anime, when Ed goes to rescue Winry. But I love friends-to-lovers, so I would probably ship them even if it wasn't explicit in canon <3
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
I love how they're completely on the same wavelength in terms of "I will demonstrate how much I love you by yelling at you and beating you over the head" XD I love all those soft moments when they comfort and encourage each other, when they're there for each other. The way Winry doesn't have to pick up a gun and fight to support Ed and Al - and, in fact, she shouldn't! The way Ed looks to Winry as motivation to keep trying, to survive, to make sure he makes it back more or less in one piece. The promise about tears of joy, and the promise about apple pie. They're just so perfect for each other T^T
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Okay, I don't know if this is unpopular or not, but I have this little headcanon that Ed actually does settle down once he and Winry get married, despite how restless he usually is. Depending on what sort of job he gets after the main story, he might travel for work or research purposes or just to visit old friends, but he never stays away for very long. When it's just him and Winry, he might take her with him on his travels, and then after they have kids, maybe he takes them with him sometimes and sometimes leaves them at home. But the point is that, especially once he has his first child, he determines that he is going to make sure he's a constant presence in his children's lives, so they'll never have to experience what he and Al did.
Aragorn/Arwen
What made you ship it?
Mostly because it's canon. I don't have many strong opinions about the relationship, sorry.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
There is a certain legendary quality to their relationship, hearkening back to the whole Beren and Luthien thing. I also really appreciate Aragorn's tenacity in pursuing Arwen, despite all the obstacles in their way, and how willing Arwen is to love him back, despite what it means for her mortality.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
The kissing scene in the TTT movie is completely unnecessary, too long, and should have been cut. Fight me. Is that an unpopular opinion? I don't know, but it's one I'll be taking to my grave!
Staron
What made you ship it?
I can't really remember what I first thought of them, but I think it was probably something like, "Aw, they're cute, lookit them :3" And then in CW, I was like, "Yessss, I like this! They work really well together!"
But you know what tipped me over the edge into a feral Staron shipper? I don't think it was the first time, but one of the other times I went to see CW in the theater (I went to see it every weekend it was showing ^^'), during the credits I was sitting there enjoying my thoughts and waiting for the credits scene, when I heard two girls sitting in front of me talking about the movie. When Emily Van Camp's name came up on the screen, one of the girls said, "Ugh, I hate her, she's so ugly and annoying." Right then and there, I said to myself, "Oh yeah? Well, just to spite you, I have just now decided that I love Sharon Carter to death! >:(" Which was only exacerbated when, later that week, I saw an article somewhere about the whole "give Cap a boyfriend" thing, that said Steve and Sharon had no chemistry. (insert baffled animated Legolas face here - um, are we even watching the same movie, person?! o.0) And the more I thought about Sharon, the more I realized how great she is and how perfect for Steve!
(Note: Powerbroker!Sharon is a Sharon from another timeline and is not relevant to this discussion XD)
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
I love how simple and straightforward it is. There's not a ton of drama between them, it's just sweet and understated and cute. The kissing scene is so sweetly simple and beautifully done! (The exact opposite of the TTT AragornXArwen scene!) I love that little interaction in the hallway before Steve discovers who she is. I love their conversation after Peggy's funeral (especially the deleted scene!). I love the way Sharon keeps helping Steve and the others, even though it gets her into trouble. I love how, when Steve points this out, she just says simply, "I know."
Annnnd I have a ton of headcanons about how their relationship goes and stuff in Sharon's past, but that's fanfic territory ^^'
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Lol, I think shipping them at all is an unpopular opinion :P Maybe my unpopular opinion is that I do ship Steve with Peggy in the 1940s, but then I ship him with Sharon in the 21st century. Sharon is right for Steve right now because of the ways he's changed. I expect it's unpopular to acknowledge that people don't just have one perfect person for them, but rather a whole host of people they could have a successful relationship with if they commit to it. So yeah, Steve could have married Peggy and lived a full, happy life with her if things had gone differently...but that doesn't mean he can't also have a long, loving, beautiful relationship with Sharon now.
