You all know A Astarion's epilogue outfit, but have you ever wondered whether it's bats or dragons? Me and @egooppidum were wondering that today and we came to the conclusion that it's 100% dragons. The symbolism is SUPERB. Hats off to Larian for this.

Brace yourselves this might be a bit long ~

"Red dragons are covetous, evil creatures, interested only in their own well-being, vanity and the extension of their treasure hoards. They are supremely confident of their own abilities."

"Rarely, red dragons would adopt a protective yet patronizing manner towards creatures they saw as inferior that lived within their self-imposed borders" - Oh you precious dark consort, how lucky you are to have the greatest vampire lord as your master, for him to bless you with his eternal gift, turn you into his spawn, his right hand.

"Red dragons believed that if a being was not strong enough to protect what it had, then it did not deserve to keep it. This applied not just to treasure, but to life. They despised weakness among their own kind." Literally ANY line from him when he talks about his former 'weak and pathetic self'.

Him being obssessed with power and how that's the only important thing in this world. This would be huge if I added all of those lines tbh.

"Red dragons were known for their swift and fiery tempers—if angered, they would explode into a destructive rage and become even more impulsive and vengeful" - Practically his entire dialogue when you break up with him after the ascension or declining to become his spawn. Even subtly threatening you

"Such rages were in part due to their fragile pride and feeling that any loss, insult, or defeat meant a loss of status if not addressed—causing chaos and destruction assuaged wounded pride and mitigated lost status" - He sees himself as the best version of himself right now and the fact that you reject him, in any kind of way wounds him greatly. This is why he starts hurling insults at you, to hurt you back, to try and cover up the fact that you just shattered his ego

"They were the most avaricious and were constantly looking to expand their hoards with treasure, they were the most obsessive collectors." Recall how he calls you his treasure and how you’ll be together forever, he will have you forever. He is in fact obsessed with wealth. He would also like to sequester you in a deep chamber in his lair, I mean palace and keep you all to himself.

"They would also boast about their magnificent hoards." Him at the epilogue party. ESPECIALLY in the non romanced version.

"Preferring their own company and engaging with others only when it had purpose, they were solitary creatures and cared little for news of other types of dragons, though they did look for news of other red dragons in their area and of affairs in the world in general. They used other charmed creatures as messengers, informants, and spies to bring them information"

"And of course they were recognized by their scarlet and crimson scaled hides" self explanatory really ~

"The vanity of red dragons was often revealed in their prideful postures and the looks of disdain with which they regarded all others"

"To have is nothing, to keep is all."

"In fact, in many ways, they were most like hoursecats" I had to add this, it's too funny

Both ENTPs? Teasing and sarcasm are the backbone of your relationship, your number one love language and both of you agree on that. You have a unique kind of romance, filled with banter, competition, roasting each other and a lot of skinship. You just love touching each other at any given chance and under any circumstances. You’d be hanging out alone or with your group of friends, randomly and unexpectedly, you decide to shower each other in affection. You’re a dynamic and chaotic couple, literally annoying each other and everyone else in the room. May or may not use insults as nicknames.

ENTPs get bored easily and want to be entertained 24/7 or you might lose interest. Lucky for you, you found each other, both you and Gojo have a blast together in your own unique way. This kind of jokesstrengthens your relationship, Gojo loves loves it when you don’t hold back and just make fun of him, when you match his energy and vibe. Even during arguments, you never stop being playful, he mischievously places your belongings on higher shelves so he’d watch you struggle to reach them or so you can ask him from help. But of course as an ENTP you’re independent and kind of self-centered so it would be an insult to you if you ask for help. So he always ends up laughing while watching you tiptoeing or getting on the counter to get to that shelf.

“Really? Tiptoeing? You wouldn’t even reach my knees” .

He’d willingly get you what you want even though you defiantly told him that you can handle it yourself. Your bickering sets everyone off the edge, except for you. People around you might think you hate each other since you’re getting to each other’s throat but in reality it’s just a simple small argument, ENTPs just love the drama.

Beyond the mean jokes and the heart crushing teasing, you truly appreciate each other’s heights. He finds you extremely cute, he loves the height gap and given Gojo’s personality it makes him feel very protective over you.

In return, of course you love his height too. Whenever you burry your head in his chest, you can actually listen to his heartbeat, and you find it really soothing, his huge form makes you feel safe and warm, he’s like a human teddy bear. ENTPs feed on compliments; it boosts your self-confidence to the top. After making fun of each other, you always make sure to reassure each other and show your love and admiration. I have a question? Why is calling Crowley a bitch/slut/whore bad when fans obviously don't mean it? Like it's clearly an in-fandom joke expressed out of affection? By your logic, you calling Aziraphale subby would also be an insult because you're implying he's not equal to Crowley.

Only on tumblr I can be asked why calling someone a whore might be frowned upon. And compare it to calling someone “Subby”.

This is my last post regarding this.

If you “don’t mean it” then why do you say it? Especially to a character that does not deserve these words? Especially to a character that whole purpose is breaking free from assholes who think they own him? He fell to be free from one side now he wants to escape the other. So automatically calling him that clearly can rub people the wrong way. Like generally these words can be seen as not affectionate I think that’s quite normal to understand.

Have you ever tried going outside, shouting ‘whore’, and seeing how many people go “awww thanks”? I don’t know, maybe that will help in understanding.

You know there are actual affectionate words you can all call him? Handsome? Pretty? Devoted? Loyal? And you don’t need to add “whore, slut, pathetic, bitch, dog” to it?

You know very clearly that I don’t see their relationship as dom/sub in the first place. I never did and never considered anything like it until I saw people insisting it is on tumblr and they decided Crowley is the sub even though the canon said the opposite.

I will explain what I meant when I said Dom/Subby as people are quick to think ‘sexually’ when that’s not what I meant.

People don’t really seem to understand that a queer relationship doesn’t require anyone to be below anyone else.

I started highlighting in posts that if you’re so desperate to see one as sub then stop pretending it’s the opposite. But personally I see their relationship as equal and the point of the show is for them to be equal and it rubbed me the wrong way how people decided to humiliate Crowley on every fucking turn when I checked my dash. And it is not affectionate and not just by using those words. And acting like it’s canon was my biggest problem.

There is a line between “Subby” - which if you insist to use that word then you have Aziraphale acting so by playing a damsel in distress, loving praise from Crowley, loving being saved by him, making little ashamed faces when he thinks Crowley won’t think well of him, etc. And you have the “Dom” vibes from Crowley who praises him, takes care of him, protects him, sorts shit out for him when Aziraphale calls for him for help. There is that and it can be frustrating when people act like it’s opposite in canon. This is what I was bringing attention to - nothing sexual.

And then there is the extreme side of the fandom that insists Crowley should be treated like he’s owned by Aziraphale in a sexual way which I have a huge problem with as it’s treated as if that’s canon and what he needs which… fuck. That’s just upsetting. What the fuck. What did people watch, you literally have a character whose whole thing is the desperate need for freedom and you want the opposite for him and dare to say that he needs that. That’s sick to me. I wasn’t even taking a step towards this direction when I said that Aziraphale is the Subby one. I don’t think Crowley would ever treat Aziraphale like this sexually and vice versa. I don’t think either “needs” that either, Jesus.

So just to make it clear - I think Crowley is more of the one that takes care of Aziraphale and Aziraphale is more of the one that likes to be taken care of. Canonically. There’s nothing extreme about that. That’s what I was bringing attention to. But I’m not going to use terms D/S anymore if people think I mean it in extreme sense. I used the term once to make a point but it wasn’t taken correctly.

I want these two to have a healthy loving relationship where they’re both equal. I don’t think either of them deserve the terms people use. I think it’s amazing how they’ve managed to get so close with everything against them. And if people took a step back and stopped insisting that one has to be below another, you’d see that they have a fairly equal and realistic relationship that gives married vibes with their clear love for each other and dumbass moments. And considering their whole thing is breaking free, I’m sure they don’t need the opposite and wouldn’t do that to each other.

I’m not going into this subject ever again so don’t bother sending me more asks about it.

I'm having mild A Few Days (Or So) Later Anxiety™ and wanted to add a disclaimer to my comment on the post where you talked about MTMtE/LL being regarded as fanfiction about how I defo think its done to de-legitimize official works (purposefully or not), but that I defo don't think fanfiction isn't a legitimate form of art/writing also? I dunno, I probably have nothing to worry about, but anxiety is Like That sometimes haha. (that said though, your thoughts that you mentioned would be interesting to see I think!)

Haha, well, I'm the one who made the post, so nothing to worry about there, I promise! I don't think you came across as dismissive of fic at all. As you say, talking about how that's why people use that 'accusation' doesn't necessarily mean you agree with the underlying logic.

As for my thoughts…

One thing that frustrates me whenever I try and discuss this is actually something you hit on the head here I think inadvertently- people who write fanfiction (like myself!) often tend to respond with a kneejerk reaction whenever someone says [xyz] isn't fanfic, because we assume, often incorrectly, they must mean 'it's Too Good to be fanfiction'. But that's not the case! Fanfic is as unique as any form of creative work, and saying something like MTMTE isn't fanfic is no more an insult to fanfic than, say, pointing out the Mona Lisa isn't a watercolour painting is an insult to watercolour artists. It's just an observation around what a work is or is not.

I get it- fanfic is often very specifically looked down on just for being fanfic, and we tend to get defensive over things we care about. I've been writing fanfic since I was eight, so over two decades now; it's a huge part of my life and one I don't like people to be unfairly dismissive of. But one of the things which I love about fanfic is that it does certain specific things that other mediums don't or often even can't, and I think describing every bit of remotely transformative work as 'fanfic' really robs us of that nuance.

MTMTE is not 'officially published fanfic' because it is subject to certain editorial requests and constraints that fanfic just… isn't. And this fact massively impacts how it unfolds as a work. The fact CDRW only gradually reveal themselves as a romantic couple is a very blatant example of this. Roberts had to ask IDW's permission to have gay characters. Who in turn had to ask Hasbro's permission. The result is a very gradual amping up of the subtext, and that means the serialized storytelling functions differently than if MTMTE was just his fanwork or whatever. The annotated scripts and notebooks he's given us make all of this very clear- there are numerous points where he's like, 'and then Barber asked me to cut this', etc. In turn, MTMTE received editorial scrutiny and support no fic is likely to, even with the most dedicated beta reader, and is in conversation with other writers' ideas in ways that it can use to its advantage. It is a different comic than a fancomic might be in ways that relate to it being published, and what the process of publishing a comic looks like.

But even beyond that, there are things like what I brought up in that post about 'original characters', for example. In fanfic, the understanding is that OCs are an indulgence in most cases on the part of the author. This isn't always true- but often it is! And that's a good thing, because fanfic is something people should enjoy and be self-indulgent with. But like. In a work like MTMTE, characters like Rung are not introduced purely because the author wants to make a mark on a pre-existing canon or insert themself into the story. They are usually introduced because they are needed narratively speaking. Rung is required for the narrative that Roberts has planned from the very beginning, and he cannot be a pre-existing character within that framework without it fundamentally changing the way the story reads. Similar to, say, characters like Tarn. So when people talk about these characters like they're OCs he somehow snuck into Real Transformers Canon TM, we lose a lot of interesting discussion about what those characters do as pieces of the story, because the assumption becomes 'they are there because Roberts wanted to make his OCs canon'.

And finally, we have this odd feeling that somehow MTMTE isn't 'real' Transformers canon because even its fans treat it like fanfiction turned official and see just the 'fanfic' part of that idea, not the 'official' bit. So suddenly, the only way any of it can be implicitly legitimized is by having stuff show up elsewhere. Like hey, Tarn showing up in Cyberverse was GREAT, but Tarn was a 'real Transformers character' before that. Y'know? Again, fanfic NOT being 'real canon' is literally a part of what makes it great- fanfic, far from being lessened by its non-canonicity, is enriched by the way that changes how it reads to its audience contextually and what it can do. But trying to read MTMTE through that lens makes no sense, and tbh, it feels very much like people are being almost… defensive about liking it in a way I find unnecessary and self-defeating.

And it is reeeeeal telling to me that exRiD does not get this treatment. Aileron is not 'Barber's OC', people do not hedge their bets on its appeal to the broader TF fanbase. You know? Some combination of knowing Roberts used to write fanfic and its content being seen as somehow 'fanfic like' (read: character driven and heavily interested in romance and interpersonal relationships) drives us more towards that view for MTMTE as a fandom.

And just to finish off: I've read a lot more of Roberts' fic than a lot of people in this fandom, I suspect. I can tell you right now, his fanfic and his MTMTE work honestly… don't overlap that much. There are things you can point to, but MTMTE is a completely different ballgame in almost every way. I know it's beating a dead horse and this point to say, but one would not necessarily recommend Eugenesis, for example, to a MTMTE fan. To put it lightly.

Summary: India Mae, or Indi, is a music major, struggling to pay bills, tuition, work, and make good grades. Emily Prentiss is a BAU profiler, as well as a DC socialite thanks to her huge family fortune. The two enter into a mutually beneficial arrangement: Emily will pay for Indi's school if Indi accompanies Emily to her social functions for a few months, posing as her girlfriend. As weeks go by, the lines between their arrangement and their true feelings start to blur. But money can't buy love, right?

Chapter 14 - Redrawing Boundaries

India Mae's POV: I was rushing in the door, my backpack falling off my shoulder, keys slipping out of my grasp. To add insult to injury, my phone started ringing. I kicked the backdoor closed with my foot, slamming it a bit too hard. I winced and thanked god Emily wasn't home to see that.

Before even checking the caller ID, I answered with a breathless, "Hello?"

"Hi! Remember me? Just your best friend who you never see anymore because you moved out to be with your sugar momma. Remember her? Speaking of, you sounded breathless. What are you doing?" I could hear the smirk in her voice. I laughed, letting all my stuff fall out of my arms to the floor.

"Hi Penelope. Yes, I remember you. Don't be dramatic."

"Well I miss you," she huffed. "And I'm kidnapping you for a drink soon."

"I'm sorry, Pen. I've been a horrible friend. I miss you so much, too." I looked at the time. "Kidnap me tonight. Let's go out tonight."

"Yes! Meet there?"

"Sure, what time?" I mentally calculated how long it would take me to drive into the city.

"No wait!" she interrupted herself. "Come here now? And we can get ready together like old times?" I smiled widely. That sounded so fun.

"Yes!" I agreed enthusiastically. "Let me pack up a bag and I'll meet you at your apartment." I paused. Her apartment. When had I started viewing Emily's home as my home?

We quickly said goodbye and I immediately texted Emily.

Indi🥰: Going out for a drink with Penelope tonight. Are you okay to get dinner on your own?

Em💘💗: You know, I did just fine on my own for 38 years…I think I can manage dinner for one night.

Indi🥰: You sure? I wouldn't want to be responsible for you burning your house down…

Em💘💗: Cute, India. Careful or that mouth will get you in trouble.

My stomach flipped. I had the inexplicable urge to find out just how much trouble I could get in. Should I push this? Even though I had asked what we were doing, what our kisses meant, we still hadn't satisfactorily defined what this was. We had both admitted we had feelings for each other, but what did that mean? Were we dating? Were we committed? Exclusive? I decided since I wouldn't be home tonight, I could stand to push our amorphous, shifting boundaries.

Indi🥰: How much?

Em💘💗: India Mae…

Indi🥰: Not the full name! Indi🥰: 😇😇😇

Em💘💗: Your halo is not as shiny as you might think, angel. Have fun tonight. 😘

Indi🥰: Thank you babe! Don't wait up for me 💗

I was mildly disappointed Emily cut us off so short. Maybe I had misread the situation and she didn't want to flirt like that. It was all so confusing. All the more reason to go get drunk with Penelope tonight. I quickly darted upstairs, grabbed a few outfit choices appropriate for the club, my makeup, and some shoes. I flew down the stairs. I hadn't been this excited to go out in a while. Usually, Penelope had to drag me out kicking and screaming, but I missed her, and tonight was just what I needed.

The prospect of Penelope coming over was exciting. Getting so busy with school and so lost in Emily had shifted my attention. But I missed her dearly. When I knocked, she burst open the door already squealing. "Indi! I missed you so much. Do NOT go this long without hanging out with me again. I mean it."

"I promise. And I really am sorry." She pulled me in a tight embrace. "Ease up, Pen. You're going to suffocate me."

"Sorry! I'm just so excited for tonight. I made Penny Punch in honor of tonight." She waggled her eyebrows. I groaned internally – Penny Punch usually destroyed me.

Penelope and I bounced around her bathroom, mascara wands and curling irons in our hands. We screamed lyrics to each other, hyping ourselves up for tonight. We may have pregamed a little too well. The Penny Punch lived up to its name tonight, packing a punch like nothing else.

"Quick, Indi! Let me curl this last section of your hair. The uber is going to be here so soon."

"We should have started with hair, Pen. I don't know if I trust you with a hot instrument near my head," I teased.

"Puh-lease!" she objected. "I am fine to do your hair."

"Famous last words…" I muttered.

"I promise. It's almost done anyway," she dismissed. "Just a few more pieces in the back. I'm just touching up your natural curls." Her phone dinged. "Ah! We have to go! Let's skedaddle." She quickly unplugged the curling iron, grabbed her lipstick, and we rushed out of the bathroom and downstairs.

The Uber driver undoubtedly knew we were sloshed. She was such a good sport about turning the music up and letting us be fools in the backseat. As soon as we buckled in, the night of dancing had started. Before I slid out of the backseat, I handed her a $5 bill as a thank you for letting us be so loud and rowdy.

We immediately grabbed a drink at the bar and headed out to the dance floor. It felt just like old times. Though I loved being with Emily, I hadn't realized how much I had missed Penny. We bopped around at first and then started grinding together jokingly when our favorite song came on. I threw my head back and laughed at how ridiculous we were being.

"Well well well!" I heard a male's voice boom over the music. "Miss India Mae." I turned around shocked to hear someone use my full name.

Oh! It was Em's coworker…the bald, black one. "Hi, uh…Sorry I don't remember your name."

"Derek." Right. He still intimidated me. Emily assured me he was a respectable guy, but I still had my guard up. Anyone who called me Sugar Lips merited a bit of caution.

"Hi Derek. Nice to see you again. This is my best friend, Penelope," I said dragging her forward.

"OH! I thought you were stepping out on Prentiss," he half joked. My eyes widened. I hadn't even thought about what dancing like that with Penelope had looked like.

"I would never! We're just having a girls' night."

"Is Prentiss here?" he asked looking around. I chuckled at the thought of Emily being in a club like this. She would absolutely hate it.

"God no! Can you imagine?" He laughed with me.

"No, I cannot." He turned towards Penelope. "And what do we have here? Sexy mama," he said picking up her hand and kissing her on the back of the hand. I almost threw up. Surely this wouldn't work. But then I heard Penelope giggle.

"Penelope Garcia. Nice to meet you." She looked at me and jerked her head towards the bar. I was a good wing woman; I would make myself scarce.

"I'm gonna get a drink!" I nearly sprinted away from them. I had a feeling they were going to be uncomfortably disgusting. I grabbed another drink and found a table in the corner. I pulled out my phone to text Emily and saw I already had several texts from her.

Em💘💗: Hope you're having fun tonight. Please be safe. Em💘💗: Call me if you need a ride anywhere. I don't care how late it is. Do NOT drive. Or take a cab. Em💘💗: Please let me know when you settle for the night so I know you're safe. ❤️

I was just about to hit send on my response when Penelope bounded over to the table. "God! That mocha chocolate thunder is simply a delight. I need a taste of that."

"God! Gross, Pen. Boundaries!" I complained.

"How's this for boundaries? I invited him over tonight, I hope that's cool. I thought maybe you'd stay over, but…" I cringed. There was absolutely NO way I would be staying in my old room tonight. The room that shared a wall with Penelope's.

"Thanks for the heads up. I think I'll take an Uber back to Em's," I said stiffly.

"You're still uptight about sex," she pointed out. "Which means you aren't having it. You've been there a month, and you mean to tell me you aren't having sex?! Why?" she demanded to know.

"It's complicated, Pen. You know that isn't why I'm there." For some reason, I felt the need to keep our recent kisses to myself. They felt so personal, so sacred. I wanted them to just be ours for a little bit longer. "It's just…what we agreed on earlier. Nothing's changed." That last part came out mournfully because it was partly true. I desperately wanted to be her girl, and she was moving so slowly. I idly wondered if I could get her attention and move things along myself.

"Ready to go? I paid your tab," Derek said walking up to the table. Penelope's face split in a huge grin.

"You okay if I go?" she asked turning to me.

"Yes, yes! Get out of here. Have fun," I said with a soft smile.

I walked over to the bar and paid my own tab. I was thankful for Emily and the black credit card I now had courtesy of her. A few months ago, I would have had a panic attack at my $55 bar tab. Instead, I signed the receipt without batting an eye, and I left a generous tip. It took me way longer than it should have to sign though. Things were far more difficult when you were seeing double.

If I thought signing the receipt was difficult, ordering an Uber was nearly impossible. I had to ask the bartender for help. She was so sweet and promptly put the order in. "You sure you want to Uber here? It's so far away. It says it will cost $63."

"I gotta get home. It's no big deal." Who was I? No big deal dropping over $100 in one night? But soon, I was off in the Uber, excited to get home to Emily.

Emily's POV: I clicked the TV off. I hadn't been watching it anyway, too lost in my thoughts. Indi hadn't texted me where she was going, just that she was going out with Penelope. Even worse, she hadn't texted me back even though it said she had read the messages. I was trying my hardest not to be an overbearing control freak. I was thankful she had texted me this time at all. And I didn't want to discourage her communicating by getting unnecessarily angry again. Thanks to years of mandated therapy, I could identify that my anger now was actually rooted in worry for her.

I couldn't help but fret about her being out alone. She was tiny. And way too hot for her own good. I stood up from the couch, ready to call it a night. I had tried to stay up even though she had told me not to. I needed to know that she made it home safely.

When my foot hit the first step, I heard a thump against the front door, a muffled giggle, and the scratch of the key trying to be inserted in the lock. The door swung open with a loud bang against the wall. Clumsily bursting through the door, she giggled again. "SHH!" she said to the door, her finger over her lips. She yanked her key out roughly and slammed the door closed.

"My my, Miss Banks. Someone's had a good night." She said she was going out for a drink. And then I got a look at her. My gaze travelled up and down her form multiple times. She was wearing a tight, black tank top, black, high-waisted shorts, and black tights. And to top it off, she had on black, thigh-high leather boots. She looked sexy as hell – like my every wet dream. I could devour her on the spot she looked so good. But she was drunk.

"Great night," she corrected. "But I accidmaly got jrunkk." There was the slurred speech. It was actually quite endearing.

"Yes, I can see that."

She leaned against the door and tugged on her boots. They weren't budging. She tugged harder and her whole body started to follow. I rushed to grab her before she could face plant. "Shoompf ate my foot," she grumbled.

"Let me help you, baby." I unzipped her boots down nearly the entire length of her leg. I tried not to let myself get distracted by the fact that I was kneeling in front of her, close to her delicious thighs. She started to slump again, and I caught her, standing up quickly to support her weight.

I pulled her towards the stairs, her legs not helping me much. "Come on, love. Let's get to bed."

"We can't gotobed." And she was talking a mile a minute, babbling about god knows what. Only about a third of her words were intelligible. I tried my best to decipher Drunk Indi-ese, but as this was my first experience with drunk Indi, I was hopeless. But when we made it to the top of the stairs, I could have sworn I heard her say, "and Uber man spent ride over trynagetmuhnumbaber." Rage consumed me. She was mine.

"You should have called me, Indi! You shouldn't have to Uber home." That also would have prevented me from going crazy worrying about her. But I couldn't stop all the bad scenarios from flooding my mind. Just last year we'd had a case about a ride share driver in college towns using his work as a rouse to kidnap women – drunk out of their minds after a night at the bars – to rape and torture them. Thinking about that happening to Indi was unbearable.

"S'not a big deal, Emm." She was so dismissive, and it only served to flame my anger.

"It is to me," I said sharply. "Something could have happened to you. You were completely alone, and you're incredibly intoxicated. How could you be so irresponsible? You should have called me." Rationally, I understood it was pointless to argue with a drunk person. I wasn't even sure she would remember this in the morning.

"Mm home, aren't I? Nofing happnd." I shuffled her into her room.

"I'd be most displeased if something were to happen to you. I need you in one piece." I kissed her on the forehead.

"I dint wanna bothrr you. You nevsleep 'nough." The fact that she was concerned about that, even completely obliterated, made my heart ache. She was so good, so pure. She was always thinking of me and taking care of me. I was happy to take care of her now. Plus, she really was so stinkin' adorable drunk. I pushed her towards her bed.

"Em!" she protested much too loudly in her silent bedroom. "I can't sleep in this." And then she started tugging on her clothes. Dear god help me. Before I could stop her, her shirt was over her head. Her black, lace bra was doing wonders for her chest. I tried my hardest to be respectful, but dear lord she was sexy. I grabbed her shoulders and forced her to sit on the edge of her bed. Turning my back on a shirtless India, I ran to her closet to find her some pajamas, anything to cover her up before I lost my mind.

I frantically pulled open drawers looking for a t-shirt and her favorite sleep shorts. I heard her shuffling feet and cute giggle behind me. I looked over my shoulder to find that she had divested herself of her shorts, as well. My breath caught in my throat at her standing there in nothing but black lingerie and fishnets. She would kill me by the end of the night; I was certain of it. I grabbed the first shirt my eyes landed on next and shoved it at her. "Baby, please. Here."

It took some more wrangling, and loads more giggles, but I finally got Indi dressed. She reached behind her, eyes not daring to leave mine, a glint in them I couldn't identify. And next thing I knew, she was holding up her bra, waving it around to show me she had taken it off. I groaned. Drunk India had far fewer inhibitions and it made it very difficult to be respectful. She dropped her bra on the floor and threw her arms around my neck, launching herself into me. My arms encircled her waist to stabilize us. And then they tightened because I needed her closer. Her lips attacked mine frantically.

I moaned into her kiss. Even tainted by the sharp taste of alcohol, there was nothing sweeter than her lips. I slowed her down and pulled back. "Let's get you to bed, sweetheart." Her stained, crimson lips fell into a pout. I was reminded of her teasing earlier. Yes her mouth could get her into quite a bit of trouble.

I finally got her into bed. I pulled the covers up over her, tucking her in. I couldn't help myself, and I pressed another kiss to her forehead. "Goodnight, angel." Her eyes were half-closed, her body already relaxing. I pulled back slowly, not wanting to wake her back up.

"Stay…" she mumbled.

I tried to ignore it. I desperately wanted to stay, to hold her in my arms all night. I had been dreaming of it for nearly two months now. Everything felt right, complete, when she was in my arms. To have that all night was unimaginable. I backed up slowly, my eyes never leaving her precious, peaceful face. Her hand clung to my shirt loosely, her brow furrowing. "Em, stay," she repeated. Her hand feebly tugged me back towards her.

But it might as well have been a steel grip for the hold she had on me. There wasn't anything I wouldn't give her. I slipped into her bed and settled the covers around us. She snuggled into my side, her head on my chest. I smiled softly, happiness and love cocooning us.

Conflicting thoughts warred in my mind. This was the first night sleeping together. It felt wrong that India wasn't conscious for this decision. But I was much too selfish to leave. Because having her in my arms was incomparable to anything else. She was the most important thing in my life, and I would protect her heart at all costs. I hugged her tighter and pressed my lips softly to her forehead. "Goodnight, baby."

Hello!!! I can always count on you for the long answers/responses. Here we go:

Does your OC have any secrets? What's their biggest one?

Well, I think you know Dimitri's biggest secret and it's a bit two-fold and one-half is a hella spoiler for book two. So, the other half is that he's still madly in love with Red. He's probably not the greatest at hiding this one, but he's pretty good at the other half, which I'll just say has to do with keeping a lid on his demonic heritage and powers through questionable means.

Are there any weird habits your oc has?

I mean aside from the self-destructive ones, Dimitri is pretty weird about food. He'll eat damn near everything, but if he doesn't like or know who cooked it, he'd rather starve.

How good is your OC at keeping secrets?

Pretty damn good all things considered. The world at the end of book one and through a decent amount of book two still doesn't know what type of demon he is and that's a big one for him. He's great with other people's secrets too. He'd never spill about something because he definitely sees it as a betrayal and not his place.

How honest is your OC's personality? Do they act how they feel, or do they tend to put up a front?

Hmm, yes. Dimitri does a bit of both. He is by and large a huge jokester and an ass, but he does use his humor as a defensive mechanism to deflect people from digging too deep. He's hiding a lot of pain under there.

How much shame does your OC feel about themself or their past? Do they brush stuff off and feel carefree, or stay up at night recounting mistakes?

Hahahaha. Sorry, as someone who's read book two, you're aware that this is like Dimitri's entire story arc. So much internalized shame, definitely keeping him up. The past was NOT kind to Dimitri.

Is there anything your OC wants or likes that they have to keep secret, like a guilty pleasure? Anything that would get them ostracized, attacked, or just insulted for saying it out loud?

You know, as of now it doesn't come up in the book because I didn't think I had time, but now that I'm self-publishing I might add it in. Dimitri likes one sex act, in particular, that's considered a bit taboo in today's culture (though that's really just a matter of who you ask and really fuck everyone who's going to be a dick about it). Let's just say that this new addition to book two might be Dimitri asking Red about knocking on the backdoor.

If your OC could go back in time and change one moment from their life, would they, and what moment would they change?

Again, ha! Yes. Oh hell fucking yes. He'd change one specific moment so fast, that it'd leave everyone's head spinning. And up until the end of book two, he may have had trouble choosing, but in the end, there's just one moment he still regrets. I don't really want to say which moment because spoilers for book two's opening.

If your oc had one where they could do anything without being caught, what would they do?

Hmm, Dimitri doesn't care too much about getting caught anyway, but I think he'd probably just walk up to Roger and kill him in front of people because that's the only chance he'd really get at it. And if he knew he would be caught, like invisible or freeze time or something, he'd do it in a heartbeat.

How far would your OC go to keep their secrets secret? How low would they stoop?

Well, Dimitri goes pretty far to keep his secrets, but it doesn't work out for him. So it lasts about 75% of a book. lol.

SPOILERS----------------------------------------------I haven't seen many horror movies so I thought I should watch it! Ngl it's actually interesting so far. All the other horror movies I've seen have been really boring or unlikable, but there's enough life to the characters and setting that it doesn't feel like everyone's sitting around waiting to die.

I also appreciate this man normalizing (well clearly not since he's a weirdo and it failed) guys taking care of their skin, although his concerns about looking young border on vampiric.

Minor complaints so far- the opening scene is him defending Jews and correcting his ignorant colleagues- something I was not expecting at all, and can see why some people might like him. He wasn't complete scum! He takes the time to educate himself and learn how to pronounce names right, he unabashedly talks about the problems that exist in the world that we need to help fix. But why- why would he mention women's rights when it's so clear he doesn't care about them?? I'm not looking to like this guy, but if he's gonna have multiple good points about him, can we add _not a misogynist_ as one of them? Why are so many serial killers misogynists (in movies and on the news, I mean) -_- Also he's so gossipy XD just an observation

Oh also his secretary (?) Is seriously pretty. Don't tell her what to wear! She'd kill it in anything anyway, and I don't know how he can muster up some attraction to her yet still fail to see that. But mostly just stop being a misogynistic creep

Generic rich guy, talking big game among other rich people but immediately shouting and making death threats at anyone under him😒what an @sshole. Lucifer is the avatar of pride, so the fact you have a pact with him is HUGE and EVERYONE knows it, so if you have any bullies they've probably been there for a while and have been sure you won't tattle.

They mostly like to do non-life threatening injuries in places you can hide easily, since they don't want the wrath of the seven princes of hell on them.

Ruining your things and threatening you are one of their favorite things though, making sure you know your worth and that you would be dead if you weren't important to Diavolo's exchange system.

Now, Lucifer is a busy man, and has expressed multiple times to summon one of the other brothers if possible as he might be doing something important, so he's expecting you to be dying when you summon him.

He quickly looks you over and when he sees nothing wrong the annoynce builds up, but then he notices the three demons shivering in fear with your backpack in hand, another one right behind you, leaned in to probably be whispering something to you.

All of them gulp, making Lucifer glare at them.

If you summoned him you probably made up your mind to tell him about what happened, so when you do he's livid.

And if you start crying or tear up, it only gets worse.

The glare he gives the demons has them running for the hills, not wanting to face his punishment. He won't chase after them, torturing them in front of a human would be traumatizing after all.

He'll leave it until later.

He'll bring you back to the house of Lementation, getting a cup of tea ready for you while asking you to tell him about it with a comforting hand on your back.

If you say that you didn't mean to summon him specifically and you kind of just summoned whoever you felt the safest with his pride goes up the roof please–

Mammon[Avatar of Greed]

Oh boy–

Again, the demons probably fear Diavolo and Lucifer's wrath so they'll never quite do too much damage, but injuries that don't need medical attention past the basic stuff and taking your things as well as threats and insults are popular.

And I mean, you think they are scared of Mammon? The weak, scummy, useless second eldest?

They aren't, of course they aren't. Everyone is aware that he isn't dangerous or scary.

But Mammon cares about you, maybe even more than he should care about you, so when he gets summoned and the demons don't stop laughing at you and continue making the threats, thinking Mammon won't care?

They are very wrong, and they'll get a reminder as to why he's the second eldest, and the scariest part is that he isn't lost in a fit of rage, no, he's doing this on his own will with no rage to snap him out of.

It's horrifying to watch someone get livid, but there's just something chilling when they aren't angry, and cannot still pull of actions like that.

He won't go too far until you are away and can't get traumatized by anything he does, so he'll just.. give them a little warning before taking you back to his room.

He'll suggest games, talking about it, movies, cuddling, anything to make you feel better. He'll add these dumb jokes as well that never fail to make you laugh.

When you're feeling better he'll find those people. It's not hard either, he had his crows watch out for them, and now that his human isn't around.. well, what can he say, nobody messing with his human.

Then he'll just direct Lucifer in their direction.

Trust me, you won't have to see them ever again.

Leviathan[Avatar of Envy]

How could you do this to him– He doesn't want to be out of him room! This is torture–!

The fact that you summoned him and not someone else though... That makes him super happy,

It'll first be him being angry for a few moments before that passes into him being happy and then it goes back to anger when he realizes what situation he's in.

He's no strangest to being bullied, so he knows that it isn't a fun, and you're so young too so...

He ends up choking them with his tail, glaring at them harshly, and he relishes in the fear on their faces.

You'll have to pull him away and calm him down, and once he has calmed down he'll bring you to his room whether you're done with school or not.

He'll invite you to play games or watch anime with him, letting you pick whatever you want to do.

Satan[Avatar of Wrath]

Please, honey-boo, why would you do this?

Satan has lived with the anger that isn't really his anger his entire life, so he has grown quite good at handling it, but sometimes...

Well, sometimes shit like this happen and then suddenly it's not so easy to ignore anymore.

He won't be able to be calmed down, not even by Lucifer. He'll go full demon form on them and bash their heads into the wall, refusing to show them any mercy.

It's better for you if you just ignore it, turn around, huddle up, close your eyes and cover your ears.

It's a violent, bloody, gory mess and you don't want to look at it, trust me.

The smell is disgusting too.

Once his anger is a bit.. calmer he will end up feeling bad about it, because you're a teenager and you shouldn't have had to see that, but he has problems controlling himself.

He'll apologize gently, trying not to scare you too much. It's the last thing he wants after all.

He'll bring you to his room, letting you settle down on his bed and huddle up in his blankets before getting you something to drink before settling down next to you.

He'll apologize again before getting your favorite book out and reading it to you<3

Asmodeus[Avatar of Lust]

Oh this one will be fun–

Asmodeus doesn't like getting his nails dirty, so violence is a big no since blood is horrible to get out of clothes, you know?

Instead he'll just give them a carrying smile, asking them to leave and it's Asmo so they are more than happy to comply.

He'll bring you to his room after that, giving you a spa day so that you can feel the best. You should love yourself and he'll be there for you so that you know what they are saying is a lie.

And then he'll start his plan.

He won't get violent physically, but he can't just let them do that to the person who's basically his younger sibling, right?

He'll just.. start saying a few nasty rumors, and I mean, who wouldn't listen to Asmodeus? He's beautiful, and if anyone does go against what he's saying he can simply just work some of his magic.

That's when their lives get ruined in a matter of days, all of their friends stop communicating with them, people whispering about them in the halls laughing.

Give them a taste of their own medicine.

After that he'll just go up to them, cheerfully befriending them and giving them hope, learning all their secrets before letting everyone know those.

Then he'll just look them in the eye, giving them.. subtle hints..

Well, nobody really cares when your bullies get discovered with a rope around their necks.

Beelzebub[Avatar Gluttony]

This guy...

Is really scary to most people.

The entirety of the Devildom have all kind of agreed that Lucifer, Satan and Beelzebub are the scariest of the brothers, and even if Beelzebub is a sweetheart, strangers don't really know that, do they?

When he gets summoned they all kind of freeze, not sure what they should do. Do they run? Can they even outrun this guy?

Beel gives you a confused look, he had been busy eating before, and you usually didn't summon any of them without good reason.

Whether you simply hint at it or say it straight, Beel is actually quite obersvant and he will notice.

He'll shrug his jacket off and give it to you, sending the demons a warning glare that just tells them to try him, so they stay put. They wouldn't want to make him any angrier than he already was.

He'll tell you to close your eyes tightly, and cover your ears so that you won't be able to hear anything. He'll make sure your smell is also covered.

Once he knows you won't be able to see what he's about to do he'll just turn to them, eating all of them in matter of minutes.

He got pulled away from his food because of them, and they were hurting the one who fixed his family, and is basically his family? They don't deserve to live.

He'll lift you up after that, carrying to back to the cafeteria where he was eating, giving you some of it with a bright grin.

You know better than to ask.

Belphegor[Avatar of Sloth]

Belphegor is a yandere in the game, and there is no changing that he is canonically a yandere so..

He is not happy about anyone picking on who is basically his younger sibling.

When you first summon him he'll be annoyed of course, he hates having to do anything, especially if he was taking a nap before you called him over but when he realizes the situation?

He'll take a similar approach to Asmodeus's manner, making sure that he remembers who they are before taking you a way to take a nap with him.

While you do that he'll just put them into a deep sleep, giving them nightmares and discovering their darkest secrets.

He'll spreed those around.

He'll just slowly drive them insane, and now they are so horrified over what will happen while they sleep that they don't have time to bully you.

Eventually they'll just end up stabbing themselves, wanting to sleep without being disturbed.

Belphegor doesn't care.

While they do that he can just spend time with you and reassure you that what they say is a lie. Also he'll get Beel to help make you feel better because he sucks at that.

What is your opinion about the Bakugou vs Uraraka fight in the sports festival. I really don't understand the praise this fight gets. This seems to be the fight where narrative shifts when it comes to Bakugou's character and literally feels shoehorned by the author to make Bakugou be painted as a feminist and a missunderstood characrter and hype him so much and to me it feels like it is downplaying Uraraka's merits and her resolve and making the fight all about Bakugou. I also feel the way Bakugou's respects for Uraraka is hyped by the author in the Ultra books/archives to me seems to downplay the level of respect Izuku had for her before the fight/during the fight/even after the fight. imo Izuku's respect for Uraraka as a fighter and as a person is way bigger than what Bakugou has for her.

Bakugou tells Uraraka to quit , Considering Bakugou's stats like being good in close combat, good reflex and good reaction and great in air mobility, he had many options to easily win the fight. We even see that in his fight with Izuku where he uses his explosions to move in the air easily. Yet here all he did was just stand there, went overboard with his explosions on her and was dragging the fight to hurt and destroy her instead of using the options to simply win like using his combat skills to push or thow her out of the ring.

When Pros question hiss way of fighting , Aizawa berates the pros and declares that Bakugou saw her strength and is keeping her at bay. the way the fight potrayed and Aizawa's declaration doesn't make any sense. We don't even see any inner thoughts or monologue from Bakugou about this to prove that. I feel the pros were in the right to question the way Bakugou fought. Uraraka comes up with a good plan on her own and Bakugou uses a huge explosion out of nowhere and comes out unscathed and finally decides to move his butt to attack her. Also notice here he says "time to get serious" meaning he never was serious all this time and he never saw her strength which again contradicts Aizawa's declaration.

Even after the fight he asks izuku if ihe gave her the plan which again is disrespect towards Uraraka. Its only after his ted talk with Izuku he comes to know that It was Uraraka's own strategy. And then the whole "what part of her was frail" comment doesn't seem that much convincing to me.

Uraraka VS. Bakugou. In my opinion it was very shoehorned in. We got some fake feminist reading of Bakugou out of it which is just not true. I think the fight shows something else than might have been. More under the cut as i ranted a bit.

We are very much aware that before UA Izuku didnt have any friend. Your bully is not your “Friend”. He was not popular and people weren’t around him. Bakugou also kinda acts like he owns Izuku. He can’t fathom a world where the nerd isn’t under his thumb. Part of Abuse is to isolate their victim. Call them crazy towards others. Cut them off from former friends and family. While Izukus quirklessness has stopped him from getting friends Bakugou might also have acted towards it. Might have beaten up people that got close to him or gave them warnings. It paints the fight in a different light. Uraraka was the first friend he got. Bakugou saw this and he probably did not want this. He could have beaten her quicker. But he wanted to set an example. Midoriya was watching from the first row. He couldnt stop the fight. It was a beatdown to show what happens if he befriends people. It also did not help that Bakugou saw Uraraka as an Izuku proxy. He did believe after all that the plan she used was all Izukus doing. To him he had also a free chance to beat Izuku up with this fight. This fight and how Aizawa talks is again an example of Horis “Tell don’t show”. We are told differently to what we see happens. Aizawa gets used as this logical, rational teacher which words must be true. The Pro heroes that complain are us the audience. Basically the scene saying. “Bakugou is doing great. Don’t insult him.” It makes things feel empty however. They lack substance. If we hear other characters tell how much bakugou changed but in the scenes he is still acts his old self. It just makes what they tell us be lies. It is not good writing. A waste of panels really. Around the sports festival we see the narrative shift. Bakugou gets more prominent. Gets less painted as bad by the narrative. Even though he does say and act pretty much similar to before. But characters start to pull excuses for him out of thin air. Back to the fight. Bakugou basically pulls out a bigger explosion without his support gear and just destroys Urarakas thought out plan. She used her smarts while bakugou just used a bigger explosion out of nothing. Here is the thing. We can debate long on how she would have won or that even if her plan worked she wouldnt have won. If hori wanted her to win he could have written it without much plothole. But here is the thing. She should have won and it should have been made clear that she did it by herself. This would have actually started character developement. Bakugou would have lost to someone he doesn’t see as a threat. Loose to someone without a more fighting type quirk than his.Basically a dark horse type victory. He might have slowly started to realise that he is not the best. That just because someone has a non fight quirk doesnt make them weak. Him getting booed by the audience might add to it too. People seeing him as villain. The whole kidnapping later on might work into it. Might make him look at why people believe him to be one. He might still have been a main target. Might have thrown a big tantrum after the fight that still makes the LOV notice him. Overall it might have been a start to develope him into a better character unlike the lip service of character change we got now.

I'm not up to date with all the drama in this fandom bc i tend to scroll past it. But being a reader of the books before I landed in these fandoms, I'm utterly shocked about how people treat eachother.

I'm very neutral on this stupid ship war going on. I tend to fall more for Elriel. But I understand everyone's opinion. I used to read all the book analysis, but now it just seems so exhausting. I get that people love books and ship different people. That's normal, everyone has different taste etc i'm just here trying to understand why we need to bring other human beings down in order to push our own narrative.

Since when is it okay to do that???? Can't we have a normal conversation without sending death treats?

I normally don't really respond to anything that involves drama. But these last couples of months have gotten me to dislike the books more and more solely because of these, may I call them blandly, horrible people.

And i'm very sad to have to admit that i'm also getting sick of the art of the multiple ships. Which that's horrible because I love what all these amazing artists create. But the hate they receive and the comments just make me hate it all more,this whole fandom with all these toxic people ruining it for me personally.

Can't we all just agree that we like these books, and respect eachother as human beings, no matter what everyone else thinks? And maybe wait and see what the author writes? In the end it are still her books and she will have the final say in everything.

I wish SJM would release the next book sooner so all this hate would stop, then again i don't know if it will stop. They will likely continue and probably bother SJM too...

Hello! Thank you for this message! I think it's really helpful for people to see because they can see the impact of the things they are doing and saying in the fandom. There are a lot of people who feel comfortable being vocal in the fandom, but I gotta say, if I were just joining now, I'm not sure that would be me. I wonder how many people walk in, take a look around, and walk the fuck back out. I probably would.

I got on my soap box a little bit because I was thinking about some of the things you've said!

I was just talking with some friends, some of whom I've been in the fandom with since 2017, some who are newer. And we all 1000% agree with you. It's so, so frustrating that the fandom has gotten so nasty to the point where we've become so separated from each other that we can't have a single civil conversation. Where people of color don't feel safe, and where a lot of the fandom doesn't even seem to care about that.

When I first joined the fandom, there were definitely people who shipped one way and people who shipped another, but we were still able to have conversations with each other. There would be these really, really long posts that were chains of people commenting on posts and reblogging, then someone adding on their thoughts, then op would respond, etc. Yeah, the posts were super long to scroll through, but there was so much engagement, ya know? And it was genuine, too. We could disagree or say "hey OP I like this point, but have you thought of X?" And it was great! (I even have a tag for it, #long post tag, because I once got an anon who was annoyed at how long my conversations with people would be 💀so I made that tag for people who wanted to block those posts.)

I'm not going to pretend it was perfect - there were definitely people I didn't get along with. But that wasn't a fandom thing, that was just a personality thing. And I never in a million years expected those people to fly off the handle and start attacking me anon, or to ss my posts to make fun of elsewhere. Now, that's a constant fear hanging over everyone's heads.

It has created an extreme echo chamber. I would genuinely like having those old fandom discussions where people would comment - in the open, on reblogs - and then we could all engage in that discussion in public. Now, all of that discussion happens in private, in groupchats and Discord. And don't get me wrong, Discord is super fun. But it also means that 1) people who aren't in those groups have no idea wtf is going on when we vague, although I try not to do that anyway, and 2) when people are in those groups they egg each other on to be worse and worse. Worse than they would have been if they were on their own and didn't feel like they had a group of people there to support their asshole behavior. tbh, I have to check myself sometimes and think, "would I do this if I hadn't just gotten into a rant conversation with friends on Discord?"

And what you said about fan art, it's so frustrating!!! Since when did fan art become a battle ground??? Since when did the appearance of fan art = a win for one ship or the other?? Why can't the comments of those arts ever just be nice and appreciative of the work someone has put into it? Honestly, it makes me paranoid to write fanfic, too! I mean, is that next???

I totally agree with you that we should be able to respect each other as people. We used to be able to do that. I hate to admit it, but I have so many people blocked now because I just don't trust them. I don't trust them to be civil, I don't trust them to be able to see my posts, I don't trust them to even read what I've written without misconstruing everything I've said.

I'm not sure if people realize that there is a big difference between this:

I don't like X ship

And this:

People who like X ship are delusional

The first one is okay! It's normal! Like you said, we all have feelings and interpretations and stuff we would prefer to see or not see!

The second one, not okay! Stop insulting people, people!!!!

The idea of engaging in a normal, healthy debate with a huge portion of the fandom is such a foreign concept to me at this point, and it never used to be. There could be a lot of reasons for this. And I always try to avoid pointing fingers because I know that not everyone is like that, though I'm sure I have slipped into that from time to time.

I think it would help if we stop seeing each other as a gwynriel or an elucien or an elriel, and start seeing each other as individuals. When acosf first came out, I started noticing a trend where people would send me asks and write them as if they were writing to every single person who ships elucien, or as if they were writing to every single person who holds a certain opinion about Azriel. It was really confusing at first, and I'm gonna request that the fandom stop doing that altogether, to everyone. If you want to engage with someone, engage with that person, not your idea of who they are and what they think.

I'm down for conversations where we talk about the series and what might come next as possibilities, because that's all this is, so far. Anyone who says that "X thing will never happen" is making some bold claims, and it's really off-putting to people who know that that's not why we are here. It's not a contest where we "win" canon. It's fandom, where we talk about what we like and what we don't like and what we want and cross our fingers and hope.

EDIT I wanted to add on one thing - a lot of this behavior is incredibly shocking and disgusting and I think that we, as a fandom, need to be better at 1) calling it out, and 2) not assuming that whoever did X horrible thing represents all people from that corner of the fandom.

Eris getting some of Nesta's powers and his importance in the future

Y'all I'm 90% sure some of Nesta's power has been transferred to Eris, at first it occurred to me in a sort of "ha, could be" way but I'm pretty certain, hear me out! Also going to touch on the subject of Nesta not losing her powers completely.

The power in the dagger

Nesta Made the dagger and put some of her own power into it, and then Eris got that dagger as a present by Inner Circle, which wasn't really a necessary scene nor plot point unless you read between the lines.

KINGDOM OF ASH SPOILERS AHEAD!

We have seen the exact same thing in Kingdom Ash, Aelin lost all of her power but an ember, but beforehand put it in her sword Goldryn and whooped Maeve's ass, actually head lol, with it. Having power shoot out of her hands and her sword felt pretty much the same so I'm sure Nesta will be equally powerful in the next book! Not only does she have a bit of her power left, three weapons filled with her power, and the Dread Trove. Nesta is still the most powerful character 😎

If Nesta can put some of her power into a weapon, it doesn't seem like a stretch at all for the power in the weapon to get out and into a person.

Eris only pretended to be influenced by Koschei

This one was kinda obvious to me from the moment I read it, no psychoanalyzing needed.

Nesta and her weapons were said to "probably" grant immunity from Koschei's power because they were both Made, and Eris had the dagger while he when he was captured.

Every person that has been possessed by Koschei has been said to have glassy eyes, EVERYONE except Eris!

Eris's soldiers had glassy eyes.

Bellius had glassy eyes.

Cassian had glassy eyes.

Eris is the only "possessed" person to get "accidentally" caught.

Eri's soldiers said nothing, and it was Briallyn who reveal that Bellius and Cassian were possessed.

Out of Cassian, Bellius, Eris, and his soldiers, Eris is undoubtedly the slickest and most cunning one. Comparison between him and Cassian has been dragged throughout the whole book, while Cassin is the muscle, Eris plays mind games and politics.

ERIS IS THE MASTER AT WORD GAMES! How did Cass and Az realize he was possessed and therefore Koschei being there? THROUGH ERIS USING A WORD GAME he knew only Cass and Az will pick up on.

Are y'all trying to tell me that Eris, who supposedly had immunity from the Koschei's power, didn't show the only sign of being possessed which is glassy eyes, had accidentally said something that will let Cass and Az know he's "possessed"?

Golden flames

The word "flame" has been used in 4 different contexts throughout the book

a) actual fire in the fireplace

b) silver flames in Nesta's eyes

c) flames in Lucien's eyes

d) flames in Eris's eyes

We know that Autumn Court's power is fire, both Lucien and Eris were described to have red flames in their eyes, which is completely expected right?

Eris was said to have flame/red flame multiple times, but I'm only allowed ten pics per post, and obviously not gonna put quotes of Nesta's silver flames cause it's literally the title lol.

Then, when Eris was "possessed" and held a dagger to Cassian's chest, it was said that flame rippled from it, and Cass didn't know if it came from the dagger itself or from Eris.

My guess? Both or combined! When Eris received the dagger, he said that it has flame in it, and Eris is said to have had flames in his eyes previously.

Last but not least, AFTER Eris had been "possessed" and AFTER the dagger was returned to the Night Court, ERIS NOT LONGER HAS RED FLAME IN HIS EYES, BUT GOLD.

This was in the penultimate chapter! Aka the chapter before the last. SJM always takes great care to put something important or foreshadowish at the end of each book. The last chapter was obviously Nessian and Archeron sisters, since it was the Nessian book and the three sisters are all finally happy together (plus announcing the next book as Elain's) but chapter before that... about Eris? Interesting.

There was so much about him there I for a second thought the next book is going to be about him lol. So much to unpack in that chapter:

Eris was tortured by his father for information (which I think is the hint for Eris not being possessed).

Eris still insists there are some things about him and Mor that Mor hasn't told the Inner Circle.

He wants to explain something to Mor.

He obviously just wants to be friends with the Inner Circle (but that's a discussion for another post).

Cassian, who hates Eris with burning passion throughout the whole book, says he thinks Eris is a good guy, but is too much of a coward to act like it.

It was hinted that Beron did much worse things to Eris during his life, "The male had been raised with every luxury and privilege - on paper. But who knew what terrors Beron had inflicted upon him? Cassin knew Beron had murdered Lucien's lover. If the High Lord of Autumn had been willing to do that, what wouldn't he do?" If you ever read any SJM serials you would know that this wasn't put here just because, it's always foreshadowing with her.

"Because it doesn't add up. You know what a monster your father is and want to usurp him; you act against him in the best interests of not only the Autumn Court but all of the faerie lands; you risk your life to ally with us... and yet you left her in the woods." - Cassian. Do you see all the material for the future book?

"Eris crossed his arms, then winced. As if whatever injuries lay beneath his immaculate clothes ached." I THINK THIS IS A DESCRIPTION OF NOT ONLY ERIS'S CURRENT SITUATION, BUT HIS WHOLE LIFE. As Cass said, born in luxury, raised by a monster.

Eris is generally very fucked up? Not only was it in this last chapter, but it was stated multiple times that his upbringing really damaged him. When Cassian was surprised by the fact Beron tortured him, Eris responded with: "Get that pitying look off your face. I know what sort of creature my father is. I don't need your sympathy." That is an extremely fucked up way to respond to being tortured by one's father, and implicates he was subjected to similar misery earlier in his life.

"Nesta could see he didn't believe them - that he was so used to twisted politics and scheming of his court that even when the simple, easy truth was offered, he could not see it." Again, very messed up mindset, which in the author's language means writing material.

The last line said to Eris in the book is: "Eris was still their ally. Was willing to be tortured to keep their secrets. And Cassian didn't need to be a courtier to know his next words would slice deep, but it would be a necessary wound. Perhaps it would be enough to push him in the right direction. "You know, Eris, I think you might be a decent male, deep down, trapped in a horrible situation." He looked over his shoulder to find Eris's gaze blazing again. But only pity stirred in his chest, pity for a male who has been born into riches, but had been destitute in every way that truly mattered. In every way Cassian had been blessed - blessings that were now overflowing. So Cassian said; "I grew up surrounded by monsters. I've spent my existence fighting them. And I see you, Eris. You're not one of them. Not even close. I think you might even be a good male. You're just too much of a coward to act like it." This was said by Cassian, whom Eris insulted every time they interacted, who hurt his sister, who wanted to steal his mate, whom Cassian said he wanted to kill or leave to die on so so many occasions, who made Cassian feel stupid and insecure every chance he had, and yet Cass of all people found it in his big good heart to see the good in Eris and try to push him to be good.

And now, his eyes burn with golden flames.

There is so so much to unpack and reveal about Eris's character, and SJM couldn't be more obvious with pointing it out. He is definitely going to play a huge role in the next book(s). With his possible new powers, overthrowing Beron, healing from all the emotional and physical trauma inflicted upon him, revealing a lot of secrets he's been keeping, and finding a way to show his true colors.

Also I think Nesta might be the one to help him with it because she at some point says that she deserves to marry him because "she is just like him", and not only in a way that they both insulted Cassian. They both had/had demanding parents which made them cold and unfeeling, preferring to appear as assholes because they don't want and don't know how to be their true kind selves. I think she would a great friend and the best person to help him deal with everything.

And the way Eris obviously likes her which we've seen when they were dancing. How he saw that she really liked spinning around so he went out of his way to spin her on multiple occasions even though it wasn't in the dance protocol. I'm pretty sure that was his way of getting closer to her because he obviously can't do it with words.

( to be honest there's probably a few tws in here I don't know what to label them though, so proceed with caution )

I feel like even with unlimited respawns people would avoid deaths, because I imagine the respawn process isn't excruciatingly painful or anything, no the worst part about it is the aftermath. Phantom pains that last for days. Headaches that seem relentless, they get worse the more often you die, hell even the scars seem to taunt the player for having to respawn. Not to mention the loss of all your things. And that's just in general, different deaths had more specific repercussions after respawning:

( few notes: by a week I mean 7 days, and I can't to percentage based maths so when I say something have a ?/30 change I reckon you just roll a d20 and if it lands on any specific number it does the thing, ex: lava burns have a 12/20 chance to glow so you'd roll a d20 and if it lands on any number between 1 and 12, the scar will glow, if not then it's just a burn scar, ect ect, if you have any questions or want to add on just send in an ask :D )

Lava - the player will always be either too hot or too cold for a week. Occasionally the player will have horrible fevers and all the inconveniences that come with it for a few days. Touching water will cause mild headaches for a week. The burn scars have a 12/20 chance of glowing in the dark.

Shot - The place the player got shot will almost constantly sting, despite being healed, for a week. The player will also have absolutely rubbish aim for a week.. Skeletons will avoid the player out of pity for a few days. The scars have a 4/20 chance of glowing in the dark (Listen they might have aimbot but they're also weak as shit-)

Stabbing/slashing/impaling - Phantom pains every now and again, depending on how deep the wound was. If impaled, the scar will glow in the dark, which depending on who gets the scar might be really cool or just insulting. Scars from stabbing wounds rarely ever completely heal into scars, and they have a 6/20 chance of glowing in the dark.

Drowning/suffocating - The player might be coughing up water for a few days, they will also have troubles breathing which get worse the more often they drown/suffocate.

The Void - Falling in the void will have lasting effects on a players sanity. The things players find in the depths of the void are more than any mortal being should be able to comprehend. The more a player falls into the void, the more exposure they get to these supernatural forces, and thus start to change accordingly, the players blood may darken a few shades and theirr eyes might turn an inky black. They will start seeing and hearing things that they shouldn't, and have odd dreams. Occasionally they might grow extra body parts. Most of these effects can be reversed. The guilt for the things the Player might do while under The Voids influence cannot. The player might retain some of the odd features like glowing eyes, wings, tails or claws, however you can cut the wings and tail off, they won't grow back, but it hurts like a bitch.

Fall damage - The player will definitely have some trouble moving around because their bones were likely broken in the fall. They might experience body aches for a few weeks. If they die persistently from fall damage, their legs might stop working completely and they might need crutches or a wheelchair.

Kinetic energy - Kinetic energy has no huge effects other than skull crushing headaches and migraines almost contantly, sometimes you get a bit dizzy but don't we all?

Eaten - The player's body will feel mostly numb in the places they were bitten, but if anything touches the area it feels similar to hitting your funny bone on a corner and stubbing your toe at the same time. It isn't pleasant. This lasts for a few days though, don't worry. The scars glow very faintly in the dark.

I personally think it's really cool to have glowing scars, is all.

I got a story idea earlier today, I posted two chapters on my wattpad today. Basically it's a story idea where Chloe has a twin sister. But the twin is actually nicer than Chloe and only does what Chloe tells her because she makes her. This is Stoneheart Orgins Part 2.Because of text limit I'll add two parts. If anyone has any questions about missing plot points you can just comment or I might post the first chapter. Also Chloe and Cameron aren't identical twins, they have the same hair color, but they have different eye color, they are fraternal twins even though they are the same gender. (If I got any facts about twins wrong please tell me.my mother is an identical twin so I don't really know much about fraternal twins as I've only met one set)

Cameron's POV:

On the TV:

Nadja: (standing to the side of a picture of one of Stoneheart's minions, tablet in hand) The stone beings are scattered all over Paris, and for the time being, they are showing no signs of movement. (a variety of pictures is shown) Police have cordoned off the area.

Father: (on television alongside officer Roger) We won't stop until we find a way to get these people back to their normal selves, but for now, we're not making much headway.

(The camera flips backs to Nadja standing next to a photo of Ladybug and Cat Noir.)

Nadja: Paris is relying on our new guardian angels, Ladybug and Cat Noir, to save us all. Our lives depend on them.

I'm going to go to bed for the night.. I just hope tomorrow will be better.

Ladybug and Cat Noir.. I believe in you. I trust you. I know you can save us.

Morning

I better get dressed before Chloe complains..

"Cameron! I set out your clothes!" I hear Chloe call out.

"Oh yay. What would I do without you?" I say sarcastically

"You would do nothing without me, because I always outshine you." Chloe says

"I'm just gonna get dressed." I groan

I rush downstairs to the hall and am the first to see father.

"Hey dad." I say

"Cameron. Are you okay? You're not scared about everything going on right?" He asks

"No father, I trust you, Ladybug and Cat Noir. I know they will save us." I say

"Thank you sweetie, I'll do everything in my power to keep you and your sister safe." He says

"I know you will." I say giving him a hug.

A few minutes later..

Chloe comes downstairs.

"Hey is Jean whatever his name is ready with the car?" Chloe asks

"Yes, and remember to be safe dear." Dad says

"Yeah whatever. Come on Cameron!" Chloe says

I follow after Chloe and get in the limo.

In the limo

"And you better remember what we talked about last night." Chloe says

"Of course Chloe." I say

I forgot to write in my diary about the whole Stoneheart thing last night, but I guess I can do it later today. When Chloe isn't bothering me.

"Okay we're here." Chloe says

We exit the limo, greet Sabrina and enter the school.

"Woah look, it's Ivan." I say to Chloe.

"Let's go and see what the crowd around him wants." Chloe says with a suspicious looking smirk.

Oh no.. she's up to no good. She never is.

Especially when that look overtakes her facial expression.But I can't do anything no matter what she does... She warned me what will happen if I mess up again today. I just hope that she decides to be not so harsh for once, but the likelihood of that happening is slim to none unfortunately.

We walk over to the group.

"So you don't remember anything that happened? Alix asks Ivan.

"You were going ballistic! It was so cool!" Says Juleka.

"You were gonna crush me or something!" Says Kim

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't myself." Ivan says

"I'm sure Ivan didn't mean to-" I start

Chloe Elbows me.

"What did we just talk about Cameron?" Chloe asks

"Oh right sorry. " I say sadly

"Once a monster, always a monster!" Chloe says

Ivan growls and storms off.

"Oh and don't let the door hit you on the way out!" Chloe says laughing

Scene: Hawk Moth's lair.

Hawk Moth: Yes… feel the burn of those words. Lose your temper, Ivan! Your akuma awaits you. (taps on the cane that is holding the akuma)

Cameron's POV:

"How could you say such horrible things to Ivan? You're the real Stoneheart!" Alya yells at Chloe

"Yeah, I'm the one who broke Sabrina's dad's arm.Back me up Cameron." Chloe says

"Just because you got that dumb footage of those superheroes doesn't mean you should get all high and mighty." I say

Chloe laughs and blows a bubble in Alya's face.

I do feel bad for what I said, but if Chloe ever catches me apologizing, it will be the end of me.

"Ugh! You little brats!" Alya starts

"Look everyone! She's angry! She's gonna split her underwear and turn into a huge muscly monster!" Chloe says

Alya growls and storms off.

Suddenly I see Adrien appear and wave to us.

"Hey Chloe, hey Cameron!" Adrien says

"Hi Adrien." I say

"Adrikins! You came!" Chloe says running over to him to hug him

I see a bunch of people who recognize him start to gush over him.

"Isn't it amazing that you, me and my twin sister are all in the same class?!" Says Chloe

"Yeah, it is, I already have two people I know." Adrien says with a smile.

"Wow you look a lot like your mother." I say in awe.

"What?" He asks

"She said nothing." Chloe says while glaring at me.

"Cameron?" He asks

"Yeah, Chloe's right. I said nothing." I say

"One more slip up Cameron." She threatens

"I'm sorry, it won't happen again." I say

"Yeah, it better not." She says

I could've sworn Adrien passed a shocked look at Chloe, but that could be me just hoping someone heard her for once.

As we enter the classroom and Adrien finishes giving random people his autograph, Chloe rushes in front of us.

"Look Adrikins! I saved you a seat right in front of me!" Chloe says

"Thanks Chloe." Adrien says sitting next to Nino.

I sit in my seat behind Sabrina.

"Hi." Adrien says looking at Nino

"So you're friends with Chloe and Cameron?" Nino asks suspiciously

I feel bad for him anyway..

Suddenly I hear Adrien making an issue of something, I turn around and see Chloe and Sabrina putting gum on Marinette's seat.

"Woah, what are you doing?" Adrien asks

"The brats who sat here yesterday need some attitude adjustment, so I'm gonna teach it to them." Chloe says

Adrien gets up.

"I really don't think that's necessary." Adrien says

"Adrikins, no offense but you have a whole lot to learn about school culture." She says

"Didn't you already insult Alya in the hall?" I ask outloud on accident.

"Cameron what was that?" Chloe asks threateningly

"Nothing important." I say

"That's what I thought." She says

I look at the top of my desk sadly.

Suddenly I hear the familiar voice of Marinette shout.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" I hear her say.

I look up and see Adrien picking at the gum on Marinette's seat.

Oh poor Adrien..

"Um-" he says

Chloe and Sabrina laugh.

Chloe glares at me for not laughing, so I just go along with it.

"Haha so funny you four." Marinette says

"Wait, I was just trying to get it off!" Adrien says

"Sure you were." Marinette says

Chloe and Sabrina keep laughing.

"Ugh, you're friends with the terrible two huh?" She asks

Honestly I don't blame her for that comment, but it still hurts everytime someone compares me to Chloe.

"Why do people keep saying that?" I hear Adrien quietly and sadly ask.

Marinette covers her seat with a tissue, and the two sit down

"See what I mean about respect?" Chloe asks

Adrien sadly sighs.

"Hey where's Ivan?" I ask

"How should I know where that brute is?" Chloe asks

"Why didn't you tell them that it was 'The Terrible Two's' idea?" I hear Nino ask

"I've known Chloe and Cameron since I was little... and while they may not be perfect, I can't throw them under the bus, they're my only friends. And I'm starting to think Cameron might not really have much to do with Chloe's plans.." I hear Adrien say.

He's the first person who has ever said anything nice like that about me..

"The terrible two are a package deal my man.. but I'm Nino, and it's about time you made some new friends." I hear him say

He deserves good friends. I wish I was allowed to have friends...

Third Person POV:

(FROM THE TRANSCRIPT)

Scene: Hawk Moth's lair.

Hawk Moth: Yes. This is what I've been waiting for. You know the way, evil akuma. Track down your prey! Fly away and evilize him!

(The akuma held in Hawk Moth's cane exits it and flies out the window.)

Scene: The locker room. Ivan is upset. The akuma flies in and infects Ivan's wadded-up song lyrics.

Hawk Moth: (from his lair) This is your second chance, Stoneheart, and this time you have extra help. No one will stop you from capturing the love of your life. Just remember, I'll need something in return.

(Ivan is akumatized into Stoneheart again. He opens his eyes and all the other stone beings across Paris start waking up.)

Discourse, Supergirl and fans.

The Supergirl situation with William Dey, is far more than about William Dey per se.

I touched on this when I first posted about David Harewood.

What I have seen, and I am still seeing is while some SuperCorp fans were annoyed about the preview for episode 12, this was also coming from a diverse section of the fandom. That David (and others) have singled out the SuperCorp fandom is both unfair, and unhelpful. But that is a different discussion altogether.

So - I am going to repeat and expand on some of what I wrote at the time to try and explain why I, (and others) have found Supergirl to be really problematic at the moment.

First of all: There is no doubt Supergirl currently has a diverse cast, inc. LGBTQ representation.

However, all the diversity in the world means absolutely nothing if a program is seemingly only playing lip service to the characters.

Compare and contrast with Legends of tomorrow. They have 6 women. 2 Muslim superheroes (a TV first). 5 characters are LGBTQ, including Charlie; who is recognised as gender fluid. 4 people of colour. The lead is a woman, who is bisexual, in a canon relationship with a lesbian, and is a superhero.

They do this without it being made a big deal of, enjoyed by LGBTQ and heterosexual audience alike. But it is a huge deal for many because of that diversity, and just as importantly they haven't overloaded the cast numbers, so they all get good solid storylines through a season. A season that is also shorter than Supergirl.

Legends are an example of how you can put in a diverse minority cast, without it becoming forced or cumbersome. It isn't without fault sure, but no program is.

So where is Supergirl going wrong at the moment?

Let's use William, as the crux of the problems are best shown with his character, but it isn't limited to him. I will put first - this is absolutely *not* a criticism towards Staz Nair, who I respect (& like, as far as one can from limited SM interaction). All too often the accusations are made that if you don't like a character, you hate the actor. That is categorically not true for me, nor others I've seen posting about this. Of course if anyone does hate on the actor, that is not okay.

So, back to William. I get the reason he came along in regards to Russell and so the Andrea connection. That story made sense. What hasn't made sense - William being used as a journalist, when Nia is right there! Nia has barely had any screen time, and virtually none as a journalist; you know - her actual job. I'm not sure what the minutes on screen ratio has been this season between the two, but it has felt completely slanted towards William as a viewer, at least until now.

First instead of Kara and Nia investigating Leviathan after William was 'exposed' in the earlier episodes, now Nia is sidelined again, because they want Kara to team up with William to investigate Lex.

Why? Why do they need that journalistic pairing, when Nia - who as a Superhero, is better placed if danger from Lex occurs. But no, they're making it about Kara having to work with William because Lex threatened to kill him. Plus Nia was being mentored by Kara. Is she no longer being mentored by Kara? Are they a team? Even if the mentoring has ended, Nia is still not being utilised as a journalist.

I am utterly baffled as to why they feel this arc makes any sense. Moreso when an already established character gets sidelined.

I'm also getting tired of seeing anyone who sees these valid opinions about current storyline as being trolls (or the comments all SuperCorp fans are just outright haters. No - SuperCorp fans are a large diverse group, that have incredible artists, fanfic writers, and social media users. Many also multi-ship. To place a blanket statement about a whole fandom as large as SC, is hateful. All fandoms have some who are problematic, but to single out an entire group is not right).

So back to my thoughts. An episode can have some great aspects to it, but it can also be highly problematic to some fans, & receive valid criticism or valid opinions for it. For example, the latest episode of Batwoman. The Alice/Beth story was great. The acting superb. What I found worrying was the way they made Sophie feel guilty for legitimate reasons why she had led a closeted lifestyle. That lifestyle is valid, for Sophie and many LGBTQ people, and for good reason, including keeping some people safe from harm. I felt it was a clumsy attempt for Alice to get into Sophie's mind; it could've been tackled other ways, so it felt wrong they used her sexuality as a way to achieve that. Being closeted for many literally keeps them alive. So that was one hell of a poor choice in my opinion. Yet others have made perfectly credible counter arguments that it showed the difficulties faced by many LGBTQ people. So, great episode, valid criticism/opinion from both points of view. It also highlights you can have excellent episodes, but they can have legitimate issues.

Nor does differences of opinion, as long as it is respectful, makes those voicing them a bully, no matter how much you disagree.

At the end of this, if you don’t agree, and your opinion makes you say something that is intentionally hurtful (directly or indirectly to a person or group of people), it's a bad thing. The key word being intentionally. We all make mistakes, and responses that could've been better, & we all need to be aware of that, but if it is an intended attack, don't be surprised if others call you out for your behaviour.

So now what in regards Supergirl?

I know ultimately that this show is about Supergirl, but it is also about those around her as family & friends. I understand there are only so many minutes in one episode. What I don't understand is why those precious minutes are going to a character, when they have one perfectly placed to do the same role. Why they have to potentially explore another relationship, when we have one canon relationship, one canon on/off again relationship & one relationship that while isn't canon in terms of romantic, it is a big story in terms of best friends, all seemingly sidelined. Which brings me to the Kara fighting for Lena's soul aspect. Again, I am not seeing a lot of fighting for anything, except more and more fans fighting themselves and cast.

Then you just need to look at the dislikes that teaser was given on YouTube, and compare them to previous ones. I've attached screenshots to show this.

A serious misjudgment was made by someone on how that teaser would be received, and again I will stress, this dislike hasn't just been from one area of fandom, but multiple areas. For many it wasn't just about William, but the culmination of unease that has built for a few episodes. A prime example of the straw that broke the camel's back. If you are solely focused on one area of fandom for this discourse (as many blame SuperCorp fans), you need to step back and recognise you are not allowing yourself to see the whole picture. To focus solely on one thing, rather than acknowledging the wider audience are saying this, does not make you the better fan. To dismiss it as trolls, is being dismissive of good, regular fans with legitimate questions or concerns. It is insulting to many of us.

I will be honest, I had high hopes for this season. I also knew it was likely going to be pretty confusing at times since it was given as 'our Black mirror season' and 'nothing is as it seems.' I accepted that.

However, all it seems at the moment is a jumbled mess from pre and post Crisis. They just doesn't appear to be any cohesion at all, which is making it really difficult as a viewer. Add in the changes post Crisis and it feels even more of a mess.

Of course, they could bring in more cohesive elements soon, but considering that we know episode 13 is 'It's a wonderful life,' and Alex Danvers in a later episode is wearing a Super suit - I just sense this whole 'nothing is as it seems' side we appear to be getting isn't changing any time soon, & with episodes running out, with so many strings running through at the moment, it feels really discombomulated. If by seasons end, they pull it off and you can look back and see how it's played out as a whole, I will be the first to say well done for that part.

I do though think right now Supergirl feels chaotic beyond expectation, and no end in sight. I feel there have been too many character additions this season (particularly Andrea & William) that is taking screen time away from Kara, Alex, Nia, Lena, Kelly et al.

It feels like a mess of unnecessary pairings and the crux of the story seems to have been lost in the midst.

That is causing confusion for fans, that is also beginning to become frustration. That frustration is spilling over. Add in the genuine and extremely legitimate concerns over the LGBTQ issues that have arisen (again from far more than just SuperCorp fans), and the frustration has built even more.

I can only hope the next couple of episodes address some of this and not complicate the mess further.

Whatever happens, Supergirl is not doing well in terms of a storyline that is gripping for fans, that is now top heavy with regulars, taking screen time from established characters, and a social media blunder that has so far only exacerbated the simmering uncertainty being felt by many.

It might improve, and I sincerely hope it does, but they are edging into the potential for the anger felt by fans to become an all out riot if they don't stop and see where valid criticism is being given. If this season continues on in this vein, then there is going to be huge swathes of fans drifting away. The concerns are legitimate. I wish it could be seen as that.

This was prompted by the post on writing torture scenes. How would a scene involving (for lack of a better word) active torture, like beating or waterboarding, differ from a scene involving sleep deprivation, temperature torture, solitary confinement, or other tortures where the torturers might stop in to "interrogate"/humiliate the victim every so often but which don't require that the torturers be present, and when they're present, only require them to stand and watch (and probably insult)?

There’s a difference in time frame but it depends on what you want from the scene.

When we’re talking about something like waterboarding or beating an individual attack is only going to last seconds. And the whole ‘session’ (for want of a better word) might last a couple of hours with multiple attacks spaced out over that period. (A lot of it seems to depend on how many torturers are involved and uh- stamina.)

In contrast sleep deprivation will typically take place over several days or weeks and is likely to be more or less constant for that time. A temperature torture will take place over a minimum of several hours, and might last days, weeks or even months (though there’s likely to be some relief from it if a victim survives that long). Solitary confinement is constant for as long as the character’s held prisoner.

The former gives you more opportunities to have the victim and torturer interact. The latter gives you more opportunities to explore what’s going on in the victim’s head.

There’s a piece of fanfiction I wrote ages ago that focused on solitary confinement. I chose it because it made sense in the situation and because the canon focused really heavily on the thoughts and feelings of very few characters. It provided a way to dwell on the main character’s internal landscape while also providing a reason why he’d latch on to a character he was still (justifiably) infuriated with.

I’m planning to have a torture scene in a story I’m working on at the moment and while the character is beaten the scene itself is going to be him being left in a stress position. I chose that because part of the point of this scene is that the character actually planned to be arrested. He knew this was going to happen and he’s gambling on the idea that it will have magical repercussions for his enemies.

Having him standing, while the pain builds and the delirium with it, and realise that it’s working, that he’s winning, seemed to work more effectively then any interaction with his torturers could have.

Conversely one of my other stories has the relationship between one of the heroes and the torturers as a central theme throughout the book.

To use your phrase more ‘active’ tortures were important in that story because they allowed for character interaction to a much greater degree. They let me put together scenes where I could show the torturers experiencing symptoms, show their resolve begin to crumple and contrast that with a defiant, unyielding victim.

They’re also a good pick if the victim needs to get plot-relevant information from the torturer. Because they create more opportunity for them to talk.

The time frame can also be a really important consideration. Tortures like starvation, solitary confinement and sleep deprivation take days.

Beatings can take a few minutes. And although this can mean a hospital stay it’s also perfectly possible for a survivor to be up and walking around (in pain but carrying on regardless) within a few hours.

So things like solitary might be a better fit for a plot that requires a character to be captured for a longer period. Whereas something like the beating example could serve as a really shocking incident because the character was only missing for ten minutes. And yet has these huge, lasting and frightening symptoms.

There are other considerations obviously: physical recovery times vary as do the chances of things like physical disability. Some tortures are more in keeping with a particular time period or setting. Deviating from that isn’t ‘wrong’ but I think narrative reasons for particularly big deviations add to a story.

These are the main factors I can think of at the moment but you have got me thinking. It might be worth putting together a masterpost on this at some point if I have more thoughts.
