#wip #been drawing these characters a lot recently #havent posted any of the stuff but i have a lot of unfinished aketches of them #idk. they feel easy to draw more than just. person standing with their arms down doing nothing #anyway. i have so many random characters designs lying around and i get attached to nearly every new character i draw so i gotta #do sometjing with them. i have posted so few of them but i have SO many. way too many. but theres only a couple that i dont care abt and #the rest mean much to me and i wanna smooth out all their designs and give them names and continue drawing them #and i wanna use them for stuff aswell. this character was one of few that i actually designed to be part of ibuprexulmethane from the #start but i still didnt know what to do with her. but i do now and its helping me flesh out the world a lot #i think i named her but its only written in my missing sketchbook so i dont remember what it was :/ #spending 2 years mostly just drawing new designs and not repeats was a mistake because i absolutely refuse to let go of them #i liked them when i draw them and i like them now. not my fault i made like 200 ocs without names and its an unorganized mess #didnt think id have so much trouble sorting out things i created but here i am. well im working on going through all my sketchbooks and #naming them. and id like to make sheets for all of them eventually too. that will take awhile though

One Piece Crack Ship War - Submission post!

Welcome to the One Piece Ship War - crack edition!

What is a crack ship?

A crack ship is a (in this case romantic/sexual) ship that has little to no basis in canon.

When will my ship qualify for this tournament?

They will automatically qualify (after having been submitted) when:

The characters involved have NO canon interaction*, and are not part of the same crew (no matter how popular the ship is).

The characters involved have 1 short canon interaction and less than 10 fics for them on AO3 (as a side pairing counts too)

They might qualify if:**

They have no canon interaction but are part of the same crew or organisation.

They have 1 short canon interaction but more than 10 fics on AO3

They have 1 long canon interactions or 2/3 short ones and less than 10 fics on AO3

They have multiple canon interactions but NO fics on AO3

It's an incredibly funny ship (but you gotta convince me it's crack!)

These ships will not qualify on principal:

ANY ship between Strawhats (honorary Strawhats don't count if they haven't met a certain Strawhat - examples: BrookNami does not qualify, SanjiVivi does not qualify, but BrookVivi would qualify)

The top 25 ships (or something, be sensible) on AO3.

*canon interactions include fillers, cover stories, specials, and movies (though I haven't seen the last 2 yet and I don't remember much of the other ones, so these might slip through, but I'm counting on you to honor this rule). Also, I won't know nor check interactions in the manga (that haven't been animated yet), so something might slip through there as well. Just honor the rules, please.

**Any ships in the 'might qualify' category will be judged on crackyness by me first, and when I'm in doubt, I will put them up for a vote - so expect a few polls for this.

Rules!

All characters must be from One Piece (no OCs).

Must be a crack ship according to above guidelines.

Ships that were in the previous shipping war tournament are allowed in this one too, as long as they follow the previous rule.

No moral limitations. These are fictional characters, not real people. Go wild. (But be prepared for 'problematic' ships to be voted out in round 1 or 2.) I will not start discourse/moral discussions about any ships! (messages about morally questionable ship are likely to be ignored and deleted)

Poly ships are allowed! I will cap them at 5 characters, however, and at least 1 character should follow the interaction rules stated above. (examples: JinbeRobinBrook or KidLawLu are not allowed. RobinNamiKiller would be allowed, on grounds of Killer having no interactions with the other 2 (I think? 😂)) Again, be sensible here.

All characters involved have to be humanoid. No concepts, objects, or full animals (fishmen/merfolk, minks, and Chopper are allowed).

You can submit multiple ships, but use a new form for each ship.

Do not hate on other ships, just support your own.

You are allowed and encouraged to submit fanart! As a lot of these ship won't have official art with all characters in it, it will come down to fanart for the most of it ((bad) edits are also very much allowed). However, it needs to be your own or you need permission from the artist before submitting it! However, if you haven't gotten permission yet when submitting, you can always send me a link to the fanart later. Without picture submitted, there might be a chance your ship will have to compete without a picture.

Keep the main images SFW and spoiler free. Propaganda can contain nsfw stuff and manga spoilers, as long as it's announced up front (eg: [Spoilers ahead]/[nsfw ahead])

To whoever tagged me a couple of days ago THANK YOU and I am very SORRY but I have a stomach bug upsetting my IBS and I hurt my shoulders somehow and it's just very hard to remember stuff right now then a bloody mouse ran across the kitchen floor and I'm just hanging in here and have completely forgotten who it was 😭 Joey started the game as a child so let's check in on his stages. nothing much to say about chevalier he’d be a romance author. it’s not that he can’t write anything else, he’s got the smarts for writing a mystery plot or thrillers or dramas whatever else genres. he’s just drawn to romance the most.

jin’s gotta be a erotica/smut writer but he probably has a pen name lol. very popular author with the ladies he’s pretty much the only male author that seems to nail the erotic stuff and actually knows women’s anatomy. very versatile smut writer and has a wide variety of content, you’re guaranteed to find something you like. he writes stuff with and without plot. his plots are actually pretty decent and original; although he does write cliche and overdone tropes pretty well too.

clavis is a crack fic writer. he writes “fanfiction” of chevalier’s stuff and he just pranks(?) the characters. he makes up oc’s and just memes everyone in the story. he also probably is that type of author to update his readers with the most batshit crazy out of pocket news about his life. “sorry for not updating i got stabbed by my brother so i stabbed him back so sorry if this has mistakes i didn’t have time to edit it i hope you guys enjoy!” he also writes original stuff too but it goes unnoticed and it’s not as popular as his crack fic content.

leon’s the type of writer that writes like three sentences and then goes back to just daydreaming about the story instead of writing it. or he just falls asleep. he’s got some good ideas he just has a hard time sitting down and actually writing it. he probably also falls down rabbit holes or research so he knows strange and random facts about weird topics. when he does post, it goes largely unnoticed but he has a few loyal readers that prefer to be anonymous. leon would probably write a bunch of different genres because he’s just got a lot of different ideas. he definitely draws from his experiences and personal beliefs. his characters are very lovable but if only he updated his work…

yves writes baking recipes and puts his entire life story before recipes. just kidding. kinda. i think he writes romance too because everyone else seems to be writing romance? he reads his brothers’ work, mostly leon’s, licht’s, and chevalier’s work. he was tricked into reading jin’s content and now he refuses to read anything from jin and clavis. ngl tho he has tried to write smut but it won’t ever see the light of day. unless clavis gets his hands on it. anyways yves probably spends too much time planning out his characters. he’s got an organized folder of information for each character. spends way too much time on baby name websites too. also way too much time on pinterest looking for outfit inspo for his characters. so all this time spend on planning and making them, he always gives his characters happy ends and never hurts them.

licht writes angst, but he always gives them a happy end. it’s kinda like his way of coping? writing a happy ending simply because he can because he’s the god of his own world. the sense of control he has of his characters brings comfort. they do experience a lot of traumatic things, but he always resolves everything in the end. his characters have the best development and the writing in those emotional scenes are immaculate.

nokto doesn’t really write. he thinks he’s not good at it but he’s decent. i think he writes angst or maybe tragedy is a better word to use here. but it’s in a forbidden/taboo setting (nothing inappropriate get your mind outta there). he writes situations of his characters wanting something they can’t have (kinda like romeo and juliet). he’s also a casual smut writer which makes the tragedy hurt more.

luke doesn’t writer he’s a reader. he’ll read anything as long as it’s interesting. he thinks jin’s stuff is weird but it’s easy to follow so he reads it. he also reads clavis’ stuff and thinks it’s really good (actually he doesn’t think that he was just bribed with honey to say it was good). he’s dabbled in a little bit of writing stories but it never really went anywhere. he has written children’s stories tho. it’s just sitting in his drafts collecting dust.

Still sketching and figuring out details but for now here's early beta Flora Fly.

She doesn't live in the neighborhood, but she's a neighbor all the same. She's basically supposed to be the viewer as a child (while the show was still airing) and how the cast see her. She "goes home" at the end of everyday. The literal child of the crew

the last 3 pics are her current version, Lorelai, which is basically real life viewer once the restoration project started. Headcanon, and idk what true canon is but, basically there's no one left in the neighborhood except Wally and Home. So he can still go out and roam around but it's a silent town when everyone's missing. Lorelai showed up one day, no idea why but Wally can't really complain when that's the only other person in the world. No choice, gotta latch onto this one or they might disappear. It's been so long since the show aired that he can't even remember her face. She's never answered his call so he's barely even sure of her voice. Is she real? Is she in his head? He's not too sure. Lorelai is basically a Tulpa to Wally while he copes with the loneliness. Although she's more tormenting than comforting.

While initially thinking of some form of relationship, the vibes have just become dysfunctional platonic with these two. He wasn't her favorite as a kid, but she obvs sympathizes with him now.

Might write more about her in future posts when I have more characters and interaction drawings. My thought process for now is Flora's just a sweet kid hanging around town with the cast. Not too sure about relationships with anyone, might vibe with Howdy and Frank cos butterfly (there are sinister design plans for the inside of those wings)

(also I think it's so funny that 80% of the time I see wally hair down it's cos he's caught in the rain. Last pic was supposed to be comforting angst and I switched his hair down then BOOM rain. I adore wet cat mode Wally tho)

The Fairytale Special (WH AU)

Last week or so I made a document explaining about that Welcome Home AU of mine you have seen me post from time to time (The Fairytale Special). It even explains why it's got such a goddamn long name!!

Summary

Sort of a "falling in love with your bodyguard" story, but set in a more fairytale-ish setting? This AU is rather simple compared to others. It doesn't have a well-written, complex concept you may have seen from other artists.

By the way the title, The Fairytale Special, isn’t meant to be pretentious (I swear my ego isn’t that big): it’s not special, it’s a special! It’s meant to be seen kinda like a TV special for Welcome Home! Everyone is still The Silly(™) deep down.

Yes, I guess it is! The main topic is Wally Darling/The Guard (nickname for my sona in this AU lol). There's also a bit of Howdy Pillar/Eden Mawnten (my Welcome Home OC)

But if you know me, y’know romance is not all there is! I just self-indulged a bit, but I try to make this AU approachable to anyone that might be interested! (Fr I don’t bite)

Ok but what’s the actual goddamn story!!!!!!

Set in a Home that it’s divided in Houses (yes, they’re called the Houses of Home).

There's a celebration for the ruler of a neighbouring kingdom, Queen Eden and Lord Pillar’s engagement in the caterpillar’s land. Obviously everyone has been invited— including Lord Darling! After learning that the most powerful leader in Home would attend their celebration alone, Queen Eden decides to send her personal escort to keep Lord Darling safe: The Guard.

Imagine a road movie but there are horses instead (?)

The Houses are named after gemstones! Wally’s is called House of Sapphire :]

Some others are House of Spinel (Julie) and House of Chalcedone (Howdy)

Eden’s kingdom is an island!

Home is a mansion in this Special. It even has its own personal library (Wally likes to use it. He’s fallen asleep there more than once)

It was called The Fantasy Special at first, but there aren’t really that many fantasy elements so I changed it. Sometimes I keep calling it that on accident tho

I keep making Wally a bit of a bookworm on accident. Eager to learn?

Tbh I’m still figuring some stuff out, but let it be known not all the classic neighbors (Welcome Home cast) are House leaders

The Special is in written form (so like, a fic). I’ll share it on my personal website only. Yeah, not even gonna post it here (unless I change my mind). Sorry, too nervous lol

I use 🍎👑 when I talk about Wally/Neighbor (Wally/Guard in this case). But sometimes I use 🔖🍎 when I talk about Lord Darling himself (that’s a bookmark emoji!)

Hey yall, so I love to write stories and stuff in my spare time, but I don't like to share cause I hate the idea of people reading my works. But today I decided to get over that and post a little story.

I love the cod games and community and i loved the series Grisellda so I thought why not put the two together? It's an oc x mw era but I might change it to a reader? Who knows first I gotta upload this lol. Uh anyways here's the prolouge, a little taste if you will, I hope you enjoy and criticism is appreciated but hate isn't... thanks!

CHAPTER 1:

El Serpiente

How was this name bestowed on me? To be completely honest I don’t even remember… maybe it was because I strangled my own father to death and took over his business… or maybe it’s because people think I’m cold blooded… either way it doesn’t really matter…

All that matters is that El Serpiente runs the streets of Las Almas now. El Serpiente strikes fear into people more than El Sin Nombre ever did.

Sure, ruling over the small town of Oro was fun and games, but it was pathetic compared to the City of Souls.

Ever since my partner in the drug syndicate, Valeria, got her ass thrown in prison and allowed those Shadow Company fucks to murder half of Las Almas, I was asked to step in.

And let me tell you, business has been booming! No one important enough knows I took over. No one to get in my way.

I helped Valeria escape prison, now she owes me a favour. I hold it over her all the damn time, can she kill me? Sure, but she knows I’m too much of an asset to get rid of.

Currently I’m sitting in her old head office smoking on a cigarette, allowing the tobacco filled product to ease my nerves… I glance to the city, my city. The thought allows a grin to spread on my face, I chuckle lowly before glancing to my laptop as it displays the news of Vladimir Makarov escaping.

Exhaling the smoke, my grin softens into a smirk as I pull out a notebook writing all the ways to smuggle more drugs into America… like Valeria once greatly said, “If there’s a war on terrorism there will be no real war on drugs,”. Sure, it’s considered fucked up to use terrorist attacks as a form to make more money but hey, my morals were thrown out the window a long time ago.

I inhale the last bit of smoke before putting out the cigarette, closing my laptop in the process. My gaze flicks to all over my new office, I sigh with satisfaction before my gaze settles on my phone. I pick it up, scrolling through messages from my employees, I shake my head standing up grabbing my coat and wrapping it around my body.

I walk out my office looking to my bodyguards, I nod to them. “Eres libre de irte chicos,”

In response the two nod saluting me and walking towards their lockers. I sigh, as much as I enjoy their loyalty, my employees do it strictly out of fear that I might kill them or their loved ones… I mean sure it’s true, but they must at least act like they enjoy working for me…

I head downstairs seeing my driver sitting in the lobby. Roberto always was by my side, even after I killed my father, he insisted on staying. His reasoning was that he worked for our family for longer than he could count, and honestly, I’m glad he’s stayed… I like to think of him as my adviser rather than a driver.

I cleared my throat, and he glances up smiling at the sight of me, “Ready Señora Serpiente?” I scowl playfully at him before nodding. “You know I prefer just Serpiente… it doesn’t give away much about me. In fact, it makes people think I’m an actual snake which makes my life a helluva lot easier.”

Roberto simply laughs, his smile lines deepening reminding me of how old he truly is, “Ay you can never beat the gentleman out of me,” I scoff as he guides me to the Volkswagen Polo, I insisted on getting since it raises less of a suspicion then a Black Sudan or a Limo.

“What kind of gentleman works for a cartel?” I ask as he opens the back door for me, I nod and get in.

“Well, me apparently.” He smiles softly slipping into the driver’s seat, I chuckle softly. The car ignites to life, and I sit back and relax a bit. I stare out the window as we drive the streets of Las Almas, my eyes scan over some streets and graffiti artworks. I look back to Roberto, I frown as I notice his hair is greyer than I remember, and his eyes look sunken in.

I turn my attention back to outside… I can’t risk getting worried over an employee… could be easily used against me. My brows furrow as I think about all the times I fucked up and allowed someone to get close to me only for them to just die. Innocent lives being taken always left a bad taste in my mouth, its why I don’t kill someone unless they really deserve it. I swallow some saliva desperate for another cigarette…

To take my mind off the craving I dig into my coat pocket pulling out my phone and looking at the new message from Valeria.

Encuéntrame ahora.

I frown… why on Earth does she want to meet up at this hour?

“Roberto... change of course, we’re heading to Valeria’s safe house.

He simply nods before making a turn, I sit up straight touching my holster making sure my gun is still there, I pull it out checking the bullets and chamber, once satisfied I put the safety on before tucking it back in its holster.

After a few minutes we pull up to a dodgy street, I leave the car nodding to Roberto, “Beunas noches Roberto,” with that he leaves and I walk to the door of a small building, pounding on the door twice then a pause and then another knock… time to see what’s up with my city.

It’s the one year anniversary for the creation my beloved mad scientist OCs! Yippee!🎉🍾

I usually don’t get write down the dates for my OCs when I make them but when I made this little research squad of Mad Scientists, I remembered to mark it on my calendar! January 28th!…oh man I gotta hurry with typing this description-

The premise is basically a research team, named I.D.I.I.O, is forced into existence by the leader Dr. Alexei Clark, to study eldritch beings, cryptids, and the like. They get into funny shenanigans!

I usually keep a small amount of OCs and make them in pairs if not individually, so I’m proud that I managed such a group! I made them bc I figured my constant craving for the mad scientist trope could totally power me through making a whole research team. And while I’m still adding more non-scientist members to the ever expanding personnell (e.g. the “security guard” ladies in the back there), the main group is done! I do love them all.

Ehhhh prolonged exposition on the individual characters below the cut <3 bc…I literally haven’t posted them before. Nobody look at me too hard

Dr. Alexei Clark (grey hair, blue-green shirt, middle of the drawing) — The leader of the group! Former mad scientist, current registered scientist.

He did everything he could to get a new life, then get this dubious team created and authorized to continue the studies of his youth and finally managed it, for better or worse. He’s cold and professional, but has started to ease up slightly as he ages, though he still emotionally stunted and awkward. He hold fondness for his peers, sons, and ex-“experiments” though. He thrives in this workplace and managed to pull strings so he could handpick all of the scientists in it, so it’s no surprise that he deeply respects the men around him…whether they deserve it or not

Dr. Sergei Clark (leftmost side of the screen) — Alexei’s eldest son. While having a great mind in his own right, he’s known for having the charisma and social skills his colleagues may lack.

He’s charismatic, ambitious, and family-oriented. He was happy to join his father’s team, although he cares less about the team’s goal of discovering and studying otherworldly creatures. His biggest goal is to find his mother, whom his father expertly avoids talking about, his brother is apathetic on, and he’s struggling to learn more about with any DNA test. It’s as if she never existed. Until then, he, being the one who’s not emotionally stunted, keeps his family a family, even if his brother and father are kicking and screaming. In the team, he’s a calm voice of reason, amongst all of the eccentricities.

Dr. James Clark (second from the left, sitting) — The youngest son of Alexei, looking to establish his greatness and surpass his family, by nearly any means possible.

Bitter, competitive, ambitious to the point where it harms his health, repressed, power hungry, even Actually Evil. All of these things can arguably describe James Clark. He accepted his oblivious father’s offer to join the team with nearly the sole intent of finding something irrefutable and great to get his name down in history, find the chance to seize the group’s discoveries for his own, or maybe even outright kill his father and succeed him in reputation in the scientific community...now why he doesn’t just get this over with is anyone’s guess. But he’ll swear up and down to you that he hates his colleagues and family and want them gone. The validity of this is still called into question.

Dr. “Al” Mivus (third from the left, carrying all the stuff) — While he has his moments, he’s generally regarded as not the most bright. Most of what he brings to the team is brawn and overall good vibes though. Much needed brawn and good vibes.

Al is happy to be here and considers himself friends with everyone on the team, to the chagrin of many. He’s always positive…though that may be because he’s always high. Nonetheless, despite his insecurities and how accident prone he may be, his spirit is indomitable and his mere presence can lighten the mood of a room. And even if that’s not enough, he’s a very strong man and will have his moments of astounding intelligence and creativity.

Dr. Dermot Diarmuid (the redhead in the wheelchair..wait the wheelchair isn’t even visible…the one third from the right?)— With all of the egos around, someone is going to have to knock them down a few pegs. That’s something Dermot is very good at.

With skills in engineering, cryptozoology, and of course, a few sciences, Dermot was an obvious choice for the team. He is probably one of the more sane scientists, miraculously, and isn’t going to let his colleagues get away with just anything. He’s known for enjoying poking fun at anyone who needs it and not being afraid of going headfirst into the unknown. When he’s not working, he likes to go back home to see his large family.

Dr. Gary Valentine (the one with the light colored hat and polka dot vest, fourth(?) from the right?) — He’s here for his paycheck and that’s IT! If it’s not in his job description, he’s not doing it. But he’s also not asking questions and has his talents, so what more can you ask for?

Surprisingly, given his fashionable eccentric style, Gary has always had a knack for blending in and slipping away unnoticed, on top of his habit of just staying out of trouble. It’s helpful for bailing the team out when they’re in too deep, however there’s no promises that he won’t tell the higher-ups of their blunders first. Besides that, he’s relatively charismatic and allegedly a bit of a romantic.

Millie Alexandra and Andy Quinlan (barely rendered in the way back, right side of the screen. Millie in pink and Andy in green) — As a consequence for Alexei picking all of the scientists, the people funding the team and the higher-ups picked everyone else, no debate. This duo of “guards” are some of them.

Andy and Millie are cousins, and the security detail for the team. The volatile duo watches over the facility, keeping people out, keeping creatures in, and keeping the scientists safe…save for some minor, vulgar verbal harassment and poking fun on their end. Their arsenal is unlimited and their hutzpah unmatched. Personality wise, Millie is more soft-spoken, slow, and kind, often following Andy. Meanwhile, Andy is more of a confrontational, fast-talking, delinquent type. They’re a force to be reckoned with though and can take a surprising amount of threats for people who only go the brute force route.

Oh I went on longer than I intended..uh…um…oh well. 30 minutes until midnight, I still have time to post!

If y’all have questions, ofc you can ask. I think I might even make a side blog specifically for OCs. But I’ll wait until the morning for that lol.

The Comic is the start of the Lusttale Canon Comics im wanting to do, at some point ill fizzle off the story when it becomes Slice of Life saga, which at that point ill maybe do more lore drops until i can figure out a good way to continue the comic, which rn im thinking that maybe Frisk ends up exploring more of the underground!

So the timeline [ Roughly since rn its still floating around but also since i dont wanna spoil ], i gotta figure out the times better but ik this all will occur over just barely the first year, as trying to add years to it feels. .. weird? idk! Theres lots of days in a month, thats more then enough time. Day one - Frisk falls down, same day meets Toriel, and soon lives with her 3 month time jump - Frisk hasnt tried the reset button at all during this time [ Magic was weak in the ruins since ykno,, i dont see alot of magic going to that area ] Last day of 2nd month - Frisk finds out about the tunnel under the house that went to the doors to the Forrest outside First day of 3rd month - Frisk hands up leaving the underground, Sans is already aware of this First few days of 3rd month will be where the adventure starts :3 Im keeping it short bc i dont wanna drag out too many things, but also to flesh out and explain things too :3c

Get to Know My OC

I'm so honored that @gummybugg tagged me in this! I love these kinds of things, and I'll take any excuse to answer questions about/from the POV of my OCs! Even if it takes me a week; sorry about that ^^; find @gummybugg's post here and I'll be tagging @moondust-bard and @sunnyanddumb98 with no pressure of course!

I choose Cricket! Specifically, Cricket a week before the book begins!

I hold my hand close to the floor, allowing Cricket Collins, a young boy standing only about eleven inches tall, to hop up into my palm. Smiling down at him, I gently move him up to a desk, where a plush chair sized for him has been placed. He hops off my hand and trots over to the chair, plopping down, snuggling in, and pulling his brown jacket a bit tighter around himself. He’s dressed in multiple layers, since he doesn’t generate as much body heat being so small, and his fluffy brown hair’s combed back neatly.

“Are you ready to start the interview, Cricket?” I ask.

“Ready as I’ll ever be,” he shrugs, but his smile gives away his excitement.

1. Are you named after anyone?

“My first name, Adam, doesn’t really come from anyone, my parents just liked it. But my Jewish name is Mordechai, from the Scroll of Esther! Oh, and a couple other Mordechais, too—my parents told me…I think one of them led a rebellion in the Holocaust…? Oh, and another—I remember him, Mordechai Vanunu…right? I dunno, it was a lot to take in when my parents were telling me about it.”

2. When was the last time you cried?

Cricket hesitates for a moment before answering. At a subtle nod from me, he takes a deep breath and speaks.

“Last time was, well, when I was cutting onions for bigos,” he chuckles. “But the last time I actually, like, sad-cried? It was…the day after my parents left. I went into their old room and laid down in their bed and just cried. I must’ve cried the whole day. I was so dizzy when I got back up! Anyway, I closed that door and I haven’t gone in there since, just to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

3. Do you have kids?

Cricket laughs, gazing up at me with a twinkle in his eye. “I’m fourteen! Ask me again in ten years!”

4. Do you use sarcasm?

“I mean, maybe sometimes.” He shrugs. “I’m not too good at it. At using it or picking up on it. Why say things that aren’t true?”

5. What's the first thing you notice about people?

“Usually what they’re doing, I guess? I try not to judge people by their looks too much.”

6. What's your eye color?

“Brown.”

“What color brown?” I prompt.

“Darker than my skin or my hair,” Cricket says. “Real dark.”

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

“Oh, happy endings, definitely! I don’t like it when it’s just a bunch of bad things happening and then the story ends, y’know? There’s always gotta be a way to move forward!”

8. Any special talents?

“Well, Auster says I have a talent for making friends, but anyone can do that, y’know? Here’s the talent I’m really proud of!”

He works up some spit in his mouth, takes a deep breath, and emits a long, shrill cricket chirp. Grinning, he continues.

“Pretty cool, huh? I’ve even attracted some field crickets to the yard before!”

9. Where were you born?

“I was born right here in New Royston! Neither of my parents were, but I was, and I’ve never known any other home.” He seems quite proud of this.

10. What are your hobbies?

“I don’t have a lot of them. I’m usually pretty busy just making sure the house is okay, making food, stuff like that. Sometimes I go help out on the Fitzhenrys’ bug farm, sometimes I just go hang out with friends. I’m content with that.”

11. Have you any pets?

“No, but I’ve always wanted to get myself some kind of pet bug! Maybe a tailless whip scorpion, or a Madagascar hissing cockroach, or some kind of rhino beetle! If I were bigger, I’d definitely want more than one, but right now, I think I could barely handle one!” 

12. What sports do you play/have played?

“There aren’t a lot of sports you can play in New Royston, thanks to the whole size thing. Our high school doesn’t even have any sports! But I did like playing capture the flag in elementary school at recess.”

13. How tall are you?

“Last time I checked, I’m eleven inches and three quarters! I’ve been getting bigger with my parents saving up money. As for my real height, I, uh…well, I dunno. I’ve never been outside of New Royston’s borders before…”

14. Favorite subject in school?

“I like science—I like learning about the world. And even with stuff like chemistry and physics that use a lot of math, it’s math that I can apply to the real world, so I understand it a lot better than ‘real’ math classes. I think my favorite is biology, though.”

15. Dream job?

“Definitely an entomologist. I’d love to be one of those people that takes care of bugs and shows them off in shows and teaches people about them. Bugs can be so cool and helpful, and it’s just a shame that so many people are scared of them!”

With the interview done, I offer my hand to help Cricket off the desk, but he doesn’t take it. Instead, he chirps “Watch this!” and heads over to the edge of the desk, pacing along it, gazing down at the ground as a cat would before it jumps. Then, he vaults off the desk, flipping himself over midair and landing on his shoulder blade, somersaulting into a standing position.

“Wish me luck at school next week!” He calls, waving and darting away.

Just getting some thoughts out of my head about people's vague posting about other people 'stealing' their ideas for fic. Because I gotta say my anxiety is off the scale. Warning: unfiltered rambling below the cut.

I'm going to be vague here because this isn't a call-out post. I don't want to start any drama; people are entitled to feel how they feel. But, I need to get this out.

As anyone who follows me for my writing (if you are, I'm so, so sorry) knows, I haven't put anything out there for ages. But I have still been writing lots of different things. I just haven't shared any of it publicly. Some of what I've been writing has been for one of a particular actor's characters; I even have 2 fics where OC has the same job! But they are, to my mind, very different stories (this will be relevant in a bit).

Part of the reason I haven't shared is because I don't want to let people down by not finishing a fic again (I'm not saying that I'll never finish George, but I also acknowledge it's been a LONG time since I updated). But also because I've noticed the rise of people criticising other people for 'stealing ideas' and honestly, I'm scared of putting anything out there that may bring a bunch of angry fandom peeps raining down on me if I inadvertently 'steal' an idea of one of the fandom darlings. I have way too much other shit happening in my life for my escape to be turned into something I want to avoid.

Over the last few days, I've seen someone (Let's call them VP1) vague posting about other people 'stealing' fic ideas. This person (and many of their mutuals) writes for a particular actor rather than for particular shows/movies/etc. It has come to light today that this person is upset because they posted about a specific au/trope (pervasive generally, but I don't think I've seen a single character this actor has played not subjected to this trope) and a specific character. VP1's post was a couple of pics of the character and a comment that the image made them want to explore this trope. Apparently, someone (let's go with SO1), posted a fic with said character and trope not long after. VP1 is pissed and has gone from vague posting to reposting SO1's fic with a link to the post of 'their' idea.

Now look, I can understand being a bit hurt or miffed, if you think perhaps someone has done something you wanted to do. But, like, my anxiety is going off. Because how on gods green earth does one avoid 'stealing' ideas if it means not writing about anything anyone has ever considered ever?? Especially when that idea is a common trope. How does VP1 know that this fic hasn't been bumping abound in SO1's WIPs for ages. How do they know the person ever saw their post. Or maybe they did see the post and remember that dusty old fic in the WIPs folder. But even if not, does a single post give you the right to stop anyone else from writing about that at all? I mean shit we, could all get a kick up the ass for writing fanfic if that's the case. It's one of the most common criticisms of the genre. Additionally, there is absolutely nothing to say that VP1 can't still write their fic and put it out into the world. I'm sure no-one will complain (two cakes and all that!).

Now, I have read some fics in my time that seemed on the surface to be similar to stuff I had written. And yeah at first there is a bit of a sting. But, given that there are generally a limited number of options for introducing a character into a specific universe, similarities are to be expected. I don't generally write AU's myself, but I have read a million versions of coffee shop AU's often with the same characters by different authors! But most of the fics quickly divert off into a thing all its own. Hell, I've written fics that were based on the ideas, fuck even the worlds, of other members of fandom (looking squarely at you @whentommymetalfie - admittedly, I do acknowledge the person whose thought sent me off to write - if it's immediately apparent to me. If something bubbles up days or weeks later, I may not remember - sorry). And that's what I love about fandom; it's collective, really; we develop fanon, we goad each other on to hurt each other's feelings more and more, and we drag tropes and au's in a million directions to see where we get.

Now, part of the reason I mentioned my own writing earlier is that a particular character played by the actor in question inspired me into 'recycling' original fic ideas I wrote aeons ago (ok, like 2016). I have three fics for that character living rent-free in my brain right now. Two of them both have an OC with the same specific occupation. It relates to how they met Main Character. However, the stories are vastly different in regard to their focus, character development etc. etc. So am I 'stealing' my own ideas?? Am I being lazy by not coming up with completely new everything every time?

I don't know what the point of all this is. Maybe I'm just feeling old and tired. But I just need to get this out.

All I know is there are a limited number of stories to tell but infinite ways to tell them. What matters and what makes them different is how 'we' tell them. Each writer brings their own stuff to it. I mean, 'Person Encounters Alien' has produced everything from "Alien" to "Paul"; they are all different, interesting, unique and influenced by the people who wrote them.

I don't want fic to feel like work or a competition. I want to write stories and share them without fearing fandom wrath. I want to read a dozen versions of the same characters in the same AU and find joy in how each person made it different.
