with another atla revival on its way (I hate Netflix) I’m starting to see “shipping wars” again and I’m hating/fighting for my life with all these z*tara shippers. I guess, for me, people who ship them together fundamentally don’t understand or even like Katara and yet they will hail themselves as the only people who get her (in what universe…) and claim that Zuko would have treated her infinitely better than Aang (I can’t with people). I’ve had a look on your page and FAQ and I think we share the same thoughts on the ship with the whole coloniser x colonised aspect (this is not to say I don’t like Zuko, but still). I guess what I’m asking is do you think these people get her as a character? ALSO finding out that the comic book writer shipped them and broke up Mai and Zuko made me feel some type of way.

i like how you said “on its way” only 22 hours ago (as of 2/29) despite the fact that natla fully came out a week ago. that said, i still haven’t seen it, so in my mind it also doesn’t exist (at least until i do actually watch it tomorrow). also, for what it’s worth, i do think that breaking up zuko and mai is the right call, it’s just that the execution was fucking awful, because gene yang cannot write for shit and doesn’t understand these characters. but it’s also really funny that he apparently ships zvtara (like, that tracks) but also their only prominent one-on-one interaction in the comics is when he physically restrains her…. lol. lmfao even.

as for the way zvtara shippers talk about katara and aang it truly is bonkers insane the lengths they’ll go and the reaches they’ll make to justify why their personal preference is, in fact, morally correct. i mean, intellectually correct is one thing, because i believe in making a persuasive argument and citing your sources, but morally correct??? they’ll act like aang is some awful toxic misogynist (yes, i know) and that zuko is in fact a paragon of support and respect for women. when we’ve all seen firsthand how he behaves as mai’s boyfriend (sidenote: the fact that they’ll claim that MAI is the one who is “abusive” to ZUKO is crazy. people hate women so fucking much it’s unreal).

in terms of how they discuss katara, it’s not so much the fact that the ship is literally colonizer/colonized (although it is), but the way that shippers deliberately play into these colonial biases and dynamics when portraying them. i actually think had zvtara shippers not been egregiously racist about it for so long, i wouldn’t really mind the ship itself. like, they are very obvious narrative foils who parallel each other in many ways and their arcs are inextricably bound up in each other and incredibly meaningful to both of them. i can understand why people read katara touching his scar in the catacombs or zuko jumping in front of lightning to save her as romantic. not my personal cup of tea, but like. it’s not NOT there. i don’t even object to people calling them soulmates tbh, because like. yeah. they are???

however. the complete lack of understanding as to what colonialism is or how it functions (ive literally seen ppl say that zuko isn’t a colonizer bc he never personally occupies territory, as if he didn’t BURN DOWN SUKI’S VILLAGE, and that the swt was colonized by the fn because they don’t explicitly occupy land like they do in the ek) really pervades the (romantic) interpretation of this dynamic as i’ve observed it over the years. a lot of katara in fire nation reds, as “fire lady,” abandoning her culture for zuko’s sake (despite this apparently being egregiously problematic when katara does this for aang’s sake). one time i came across a literal pocahontas au?!?!?? like. it’s SO dire.

and beyond the very obvious racism, the way they paint shipping zvtara as feminist and progressive is insane because, as you say, they do hate katara. i don’t know how to explain to these people that sanding down all her flaws and turning her into this angelic maternal endless well of compassion and emotional labor means you don’t actually like her character as it is presented in canon. acting as if katara lacks flaws (she is, in fact, deeply flawed) or so much more mature than the rest of her friends and must suffer that burden every day (hint: she’s not and she doesn’t) until the noble zuko comes along and is so gracious towards her and her alone (he’s literally the most immature of the lot, screams and whines at her, and at everyone) is just. a really impressive amount of editorializing. and they turn aang and sokka into these whiny, idiotic babies to justify that decision, as if aang and sokka are not highly intelligent, wise, capable, and responsible in their own right.

katara and zuko are in fact flawed in similar ways. they’re both impulsive, self-righteous, stubborn, myopic, callous, and filled with an unquenchable, blinding rage. it’s clear that when they are aligned in that rage, their dysfunction feeds into each other and they block the rest of the world out to satisfy their impulses. katara is able to pull back at the last moment in “the southern raiders” in a beautiful culmination of her internal character arc, but the entire build-up to this moment sort of showcases the ways in which they might not be great for each other as a couple. but people will do some incredible mental gymnastics to explain why they are nonetheless always right about everything, and why aang and sokka are always wrong and don’t understand katara at all. also, fwiw, reducing “the southern raiders” to who is right vs who is wrong when it’s actually about how various characters approach and process their grief in a deliberately subjective way is just. god. exhausting. i’m exhausted.

the thing about atla is that it is a well-written show, especially as far as its main characters are concerned. katara is so dear and special to me specifically because she is allowed to be so flawed and three dimensional and realistically human. and ignoring zuko’s myriad flaws means ignoring the depth that apparently makes him the most interesting character to 90% of atla fans. there really isn’t a need to editorialize and reduce canon to fit a neat little narrative, when the narrative that already exists is just. already really solid. and the thing is, i don’t even think you should have to change canon all that much to justify this ship, because it’s one of the central dynamics of the entire show. and yet, people still do. they really do. so i think that’s telling, don’t you?

To celebrate the one year anniversary of the Rise of TMNT Movie, what is something you love the most about it that you don’t see anyone either talking about as much, or at all?

LONG POST COMING! Two things really…

1. The Lack of Romance in it.

I’ve seen one too many great shows be ruined by shipping, and one thing that annoys me more then anything is when you have a girl/woman and they’re almost always relegated to a love interest role. Almost every kid’s TV show (and a LOT of adult oriented ones) has to have a romantic element in it, but I’ve yet to see a single one that actually has a good one (besides Kim Possible, but that’s only because we were allowed to see the characters in a healthy, stable relationship). The fact that neither April, Sunita, Casey, Karai, nor Big Mama had to be pigeonholed into a romantic interest role is such a big plus for me. Even though Big Mama was later revealed to have had a relationship with Splinter, she was set up as a character first. Not only that, but each of the women are unique, funny, allowed to be a part of the action without anyone else telling them to step back, and have interesting or strong bonds with the group they are part of. If they do ever bring Rise back, I hope they continue to not focus on romance at all, straight, gay, or otherwise. Even though I joke about the boys falling for someone and Leo being bisexual, I wouldn’t want it. The focus on family, on brother/sisterhood, is so healthy and wonderfully depicted in this show. It’s rare to see something that reminds you that love doesn’t have to be romantic to be powerful.

2. The fact that the show is silly.

TMNT has always been silly. Even back in the first comic, though things were a lot more violent, it was clear that this was a spoof to make fun of how comically (pun intended) dark certain comics were at the time. Nowadays, a lot of people believe that for a show to be worth something it has to be serious in order to be taken seriously. I think that’s a load of baloney. The whole reason why the Marvel cinematic universe did so well is because it isn’t serious. It’s full of goofy jokes, characters, and moments where the heroes rise up regardless of their numerous failures. Avatar is one of the most beloved shows out there and its main character is a goofy kid, a overly logical genius that couldn’t’ get anything right in the beginning, and a sarcastic, hopeful stick in the mud. The first few episodes talks about a war and then shows a single kid literally prancing his way out of a dangerous predicament. The best shows are the ones that understand that balance. That life is, for the most part, light hearted and full of silly, often ridiculous moments. These shows also realize that when the threat is real, it’s time to get serious. Rise has that balance, just like the original Teen Titans did. Older TMNT fans really went against the one thing that is this show’s greatest strength. Stories that endure the longest, are the ones that are fun, but know how to affect you emotionally. That’s why TMNT is still a thing after all this time. And Rise handles the emotions well, only because we’ve seen the characters at their happiest. Because then, when things get real, we’re heartbroken that they don’t succeed, that they’re suffering. We want them to be happy again, just like we do in real life when times are tough. It’s no wonder so many people love Rise and say that it got them through tough times. The show knows what it’s doing.

AND IT DESERVES TO COME BACK!

- but whew that sophomore to junior yr summer did him right, giving him a few more inches and a nice deep voice

- when he came in everyone thought he was a new student until he said, “Here”, when his name was called

- got people asking him for rides home left n right and has about a million candy grams on valentines day

- poor man doesn’t know how to handle all this new attention since he still feels like the same ‘ole deku from last year :(

M. ASHIDO — The Camerawoman

- yk that person who lowkey gets the perfect shots during a fight?

- yea that’s her

- she’s always looking for fights to record and keeps a schedule of when they’re supposed to happen

- like you’ll see in her school planner “FIGHT @ 1 NEAR FIRST FLOOR BATHROOM” right next to her history hw

- lowkey almost gets suspended one day for "instigating" but gets out of it

- eventually gets tired of having to send everyone the fight and makes an insta page with denki

D. KAMINARI — Runner of the School’s Instagram(s)

- never sleep, fight, or tell him drama

- cause it’s gon on one of them insta pages

- it started with just making a sleep page and then spread like a wildfire

- got so popular he moved on to the drama and eventual fight page that he co-runs with mina

- it got so bad that people were scared to sleep in class and fights were more frequent

- the school can't do too much about it since no one’s snitched on him yet ;)

M. YAOYOROZU — The Nice "It Girl"

- basically the smarter version of cher from clueless

- minus the terrible driving and falling in love with her stepbrother

- always smells so good and will lend you anything you ever need

- just give it back to her or she will hunt you down

- takes the prettiest notes and is the first one to have her hand raised in every class

- the president of student council for all four years

- everyone knows her but she has a small circle of friends

- don’t take her kindness for granted though or you’ll get a lot of nasty stares in the hallway

N. MONOMA — The Devil’s Advocate

- def that guy that you see across the hallway that you think is pretty

- until he opens his mouth and you realize that he has a pretty punchable face

- always starts his sentences off with, “I don't mean to be that person but…” and then goes on to say some mess

- don’t expect him to help you with anything during a group project

- but if he does, you both are gonna end up fighting more than completing the project

- always has a smirk on his face and will start arguments just because he thinks its funny

- the teachers love him yet hate him

- on one hand, he gets the class to engage in discussions, but on the other do they really want to spend their prep period dragging another student off of him?

I think Morgana doesn’t realize that we barley know shit about Sallie May. She said it herself, we’re only on early season 2 and we’ve only got one small scene with her. I bring this up because that’s why it feels like fetishization to me. The way she’s presented in the sexy merch is not at all what she’s like when we saw her. Like….for example if we knew Sallie was a very flirty and open character like Angel, then it would make more sense but we have nothing on her. Same for the sexy merch of Velvette. Her merch for me is the same as how Charlie isn’t presented sexually and yet they make sexy merch of her, coming off as sexist. In Sallie’s case, its fetishizing her because the crew just looked at her, a character who had like…one line and instantly went “yes let’s make sexy merch of her because people would love that and drool over it”- and I’m sorry, it’s not only fetishizing but sexist too. This show knows it’s audience, most of the sexy merchandise is made for horny fans and it feels like you’re just appeasing to people who DO fetishize trans people rather than actually seeing them as people, cause…ya know, this show is known to be so goddamn horny and sexualize and fetishize almost every character, regardless if we even know them or if they’re sexual or not. The sexy merch of the female characters felt like they all existed simply because they’re female and we need to give the rabid horny fans what they want.

Like….nobody is saying she can’t have a bulge, nobody cares about her fucking bottom or not, nobody said being confident in your body was a fetish, kinda feels like Morgana is self projecting about her personal life rather than seeing the bigger issue here. And I’m sorry girl, but so far, if you’re voicing a character who had one fucking line and it’s someone we don’t know anything about, then yeah, I’m ganna say it felt more like brownie points because why haven’t the writers taken the time to give us more clues about her? They could have had Millie talk about her, even if you didn’t want to show her on screen. I just….maybe if this show wasn’t so focused on filler and shipping, we could be developing characters off screen, something Viv herself said she was trying to accomplish but obliviously failed. Like I find it so funny that she said that the two have a “sibling rivalry” and yet Millie never talks about her, but we can’t have that because that would actually give Millie purpose and screen time.

My point is….if these writers and Morgana are oh so determined to give trans representation and show people of that community being confident…..maybe……do that in the actual fucking show??? Maybe put more effort into the writing instead of constantly focusing on Stolas a million times in a row and focus on the other characters? Maybe do that instead of just making sexy merch just to profit off of horny drooling fans? Maybe do more instead of sitting here and flexing about a character that had two fucking lines? Cause I really don’t think this crew knows that being confident and exploring sexualities isn’t just showing your tits and ass and being vulgar. Until they do more with Sallie outside of showing her body off just because she’s hot, I disagree with everything here. It doesn’t make me transphobic that I actually want to see more of a character outside of sexy merch.

Also…so funny how Morgana can look at sexy merch literally labeled “Sexy merch” that’s purposefully filled with characters drawn suggestively and go “yeah this isn’t fetish art”-

Tim Minear, I got a fucking bone to pick with you.

How the fuck did Nick and Nora, made during the infamous Hays Code era by the way, make out more times than Bobby and Athena? Like I’m not counting (I am and it is zero) but how is that exactly possible?

The film’s characters, supposedly married, weren’t even allowed for sleep in one bed because of those ridiculous rules and yet they seemed to convey more affection and sexual tension.

Meanwhile, you have no such restrictions with these actors today. We’re not even asking them to have movie magic sex, sir. We were just hoping for some actual fun sleuthing adventures with our favorite chaotic couple.

—because that was the expectation you set when you said they were going to be like The Thin Man.

(This should have been a red flag honestly because—in my opinion—apart from “The Thrilling Adventure Hour’s Beyond Belief” with Frank and Sadie Doyle, there has never been a truly good adaptation or inspired piece of The Thin Man which actually has led me to think it’s some kind of curse on its own, like a mini-Macbeth)

How do you reference The Thin Man regarding the episode you wrote? Like sir, Nick and Nora were a rich, chaotic, drunk honeymooning, sleuthing couple with a funny little dog who just happened to solve crimes for funsies because the wise-cracking wife and her cute little nose would not let her husband stay out of trouble.

They made sleuthing look fun and marriage seem sexy which was already a revolutionary idea in the silver screens of the 1930s…like that is the complete opposite of what you wrote in “Abandon ‘Ships”, Mr. Minear. Did you even watch the movies or did someone just say, ‘hey, you know those black and white movies…?’

I don’t mind what you did in the episode. I mind that you uttered complete bullshit about it saying it’s like The Thin Man movies because, no, hell no. Not even close. I really don’t get how you pulled that comment from your ass, sir. Respectfully.

So did you lie or did you just choose to reference the film series because this is another jab at the Oscars? Because as it happens, they also presented the actress who played Nora, Myrna Loy (sidenote: everyone knew she should have won for the 1946 film “The Best Years of Our Lives”) an Honorary Oscar.

So what I’m actually saying is, you kinda suck for lying through your stupid teeth, Tim Minear. So like go kick rocks or something. And maybe don’t ever speak of The Thin Man again if you’re just gonna lie about it.

It’s Audio Drama Sunday and this week was full of bangers! This list is not comprehensive but it is what stuck out this week. Let’s goooooooo

🔥 The Heart Pyre continuously leaves me with the perfect impression of being in middle school reading under my desk. It’s so good it feels like I’m getting away with something. Maybe it’s because Rena is such a relatable protagonist. She’s just a normal girl! She’s just a little teen! What is she supposed to do! And that makes her even more heroic. As always, the choice this week was impossible and I can’t wait to see how it shakes out. Also, Logan And Finn Should Kiss 2k24. @theheartpyre

🗡️ SIDEQUESTING 😭 This episode is so SWEET. I love when Rion grows a little—Sidequesting is episodic and doesn’t lend itself to like, substantial character development. That is fine; it’s not the point of the show. It makes the moments Rion does grow, though, stand out like little jewels. This episode shone. @sidequestingpod

🗝️ Palimpsest is doing its slow burn thing, referencing itself over again as its name suggests it will do, and in this story, I am Very Concerned About That Man Lenore Married. He is condescending and dismissive and he is isolating her, and I DO NOT TRUST HIM.

📼 Within the Wires—oh my gosh, I literally screamed when the canned noises stopped. What is your game, Tony? What do you want with Brian?

🅿️ Podcube was short this week—Podcube is always short—but this episode had me cracking up at work. I love that this team manages to find new conflicts somehow. Man vs man, but they’re assassins and one of them is convinced the other is in love with the target. Why does this work? Why is this so funny? Please listen to Podcube. @podcube

🩸 Hemophobia continues to make my skin crawl. This episode reveals that the characters are Church of Christ, which, for those who don’t know, means they have a really specific set of beliefs about baptism that I KNOW are going to be perfect fodder for the Horrors. And yet it’s all so normal so far. Creepy. Oh, another thing this episode does is portray with perfect gut-wrenching clarity how strange and awful it us to be a devout teenager, and in like, four different ways. Incredible work.

🎣 Eeler’s Choice has some FANTASTIC sound design this episode as Ran comes into their own as a storm chanter—FRICK. I am worried about them. And their new ship. Please be careful and don’t get eaten by fungus. @eelerschoice

✨ Stories from Ylelmore is brand new and SO GOOD, oh my gosh, I am in love with the earnest delivery, the characters who are absolute BABIES, the genuine fascinating mystery. I can’t wait for more. @storiesfromylelmore

🍔 Midnight Burger’s THREE HOUR FINALE brought us home with Clementine. It wasn’t what I expected, and I think that’s kind of Midnight Burger’s MO. The fact that the tone of the dialogue, that the characters themselves, are so cynical and hard—it will trick you into believing that it’s a cynical show. Maybe it is! But it also fights over and over again for the idea that things can be fixed, that love matters, that you can save people and you have to try, you always have to try. And sometimes you win. And that’s how the universe is meant to work. It kills me every time. Also, shoutout to Alan Burgon, always the best, who I love to hear doing his actual accent. @midnightburgr

🐦‍⬛ Leaving Corvat. Oh my word. It’s a wellness cult. Sleeper’s in a wellness cult. I am really pleased with the development his character’s showing, being decisive and brave.

🍵 Gastronaut is going some places and I am OBSESSED. The relationship between Oscar and Polity is everything to me, and the fact that Oscar has gotten to the point where he refuses to ignore his responsibilities, he refuses to leave people behind—he is sometimes stupid, but he is trying and I’m proud of him.

🧟‍♂️ We are getting to the final episode of Precious Cargo in the Dead and y’all….it’s gonna get juicy. I’m not exaggerating, one of the zombie actors used watermelon to get things sounding juuuuust right. Our next story might be even better, too, I can’t wait to show you.

to be fair i don’t think ozzie kept his relationship with fizz on the dl bc he’s an imp (he doesn’t seem concerned that people know they up have sex), but because of the whole lust/love thing. which is stupid, but it’s also vivziepop writing so whatchu gonna do 🙃

ozzie does seem to be one of the “better” upper class members in terms of how he treats other species (imps are allowed in his clubs, he regularly interacts with succubi/imp hybrids, everyone at his workplaces seem pretty happy and unlike stella and andre, he doesn’t seem particularly discriminatory or callous), but he still calls moxxie “little imp” (granted he is literally little and an imp and its a performance) and his imp boyfriend “froggy” which with the fire toad slur kinda raises eyebrows? this could also just be vivziepop Not Thinking but. hmm.

even bee who is shown partying and dating hellhounds, said to be even lower than imps, still runs the abusive adoption pound and signs her name on every adoption paper. she can cover it up with honey and a smile all she wants but she’s 1000% complicit in their oppression. like how does tex feel about that??? it reminds me of corporations who do all this virtue signaling for social justice but give billions to horrible causes. but i don’t think vivziepop understands that because again. rich background. “bee was nice to loona so its ok!!! deeper implications? what’s that?”

speaking of which, every time viv likes a tweet about how striker deserves nothing and is a toxic masculinity homophobe makes my blood boil. i don’t particularly like striker and i lost any interest in him after western energy but he and crim are really evidence that viv thinks “STOP BEING POOR” is a valid argument. also wasnt he flirting with blitzo in his first ep???? so like? huh???

i will say one reason i ship blitzstriker is because they seem to have similar views in regards to class (at least pre oops…) and i can totally see them staking it out on the run together. i can’t see fizz doing that, he flaunts his wealth and even tho he says “it’s nice being out of the spotlight” i cannot see this man surviving without luxury items for over a day loo. even in the circus, he always had the best clothes and was the main breadwinner and while the circus is said to be struggling, he never seems to be. i think that’s another reason i personally never got fizz’s insecurities, because he’s been the ace his whole life???? like as someone who has struggled a lot for ANY recognition or love it just makes him seem spoiled to be like “ozzie no luv me bc im not perfect :(“ i think your manipulator idea would make more sense.

anyway this turned into a ted talk. you dont have to answer everything. im realizing i actually hate what helluva boss is but i love the fanworks and the potential it had. sigh.

Isn’t it so funny how we have to pick which flaws are on purpose and which are just…Viv being a bad writer. Like we have to accommodate her forgetting or not caring enough to put the work in and review it after.

Paragraph 1: I definitely agree 100%, I like the part where the imp and succubi are his patrons, equal, including the butler who stolas abuses. Which feels like a very purposeful decision to contrast him with Stolas specifically. But there’s still the fact that Ozzies is so overpriced and exclusive and yet, rich folk like stolas can just waltz in without any reservation for free, by threatening the bouncer with…something. Violence? Imprisonment? Ruining his life? Honestly I wish we could have seen Jesse tell Stolas to fuck off, before he notifies the big man of what he just tried to do.

Paragraph 2: He is one thousand percent better, and he respected his employees who in turn liked him and weren’t scared of him. However he’s a better monarch, but still a monarchby and at the end of the episode he betrays his employees trust and uses intimidation and the threat of violence to silence them. Also froggy??? Really? Really? And got every time he says it the cringe levels are intense, it feels deeply deeply ooc.

Back to paragraph 1 again: the secrecy…it’s about the inexplicable anti love thing, but I’m just saying I think fizz feels that way. Like in that article I keep referencing they say things like “heart hoarded by an imp?!” Which I suppose is equivalent to anti imp racism in hell. Stereotypes of them being untrustworthy selfish beings. Which is also the fuel for Stolas’ fetish. It just really pissed me off the way Asmodeus said “still getting your kink on with that feisty imp?” And stolas says “this imp has a business he runs” I was wayyyy to charitable to Asmodeus in the past and regret it so so much.

Paragraph 3: Many people point this out about Bee and I really hope her nice persona vanishes fast because it’s just ridiculous given her status and what she’s done. Why are your hellborn the most downtrodden of them all if you’re ohh so nice miss Beelzebub? And how the F could Loona not know who Beelzebub is??? Do her and Blitzø not realise who signed off on the adoption certificate? (Confirmed on Vivs patron that it was in fact Bee) why is Tex working as a bodyguard for verosika who calls him “my new hellhound” and yells at him, he also says he’s not paid enough to care about her issues. Paragraph 4: LITERALLY!!! Viv is such a privileged rich girl that her villains are poor. While she’s going on a world tour but raging at Twitter people criticising her pet character. She’s literally Stella and a Mammon: “Can you imagine not having money ahahhahh” — Viv describing why striker is so evil

Paragraph 5: another question is why would Blitzø being jealous of Fizz be such a bad thing? He didn’t want to cause the accident. But why would him hating how bad he is at making people laugh,,,make him bad? That’s why I love their arguments because neither is completely wrong or right. His father literally loves him more than his own son and as you said, he gets pampered the most and loved the most. He can’t stand someone not liking him for even five seconds which should be a character flaw, not endearing. But, Fizz doesn’t have a father at all, so he’s not completely wrong. And if his parents did abandon him and nobody would adopt him, that explains why he doesn’t feel good enough to be loved and why he needs audience approval. Viv just forgot to write that FUNDAMENTAL part into the f**king episode.

I love a good fish out of water story and seeing fizz slowly learn to fight beside his friend proving that their differences are compatible was great. By the end, Fizz seemed almost happier and freer by Blitzos side than by Ozzies side, but the goldfish is just put back in the bowl, which sucks.

Your last line made me almost laugh cry tbh because there’s enough lost potential to fill a fountain. The episode had such a strong start then around the breakdown things went south and it stopped being good. The status quo isn’t different at all and fizz just slightly shifted his destructive needs for affirmation onto a different royal.

Happy Saturday everyone. I always forget Eric’s wife had a spot on the show. Every time I get to this episode its a reminder. Also fair warning he’s gonna make me extra feral in this one. He is in a suit and yummy street clothes in this episode. Gimme gimme all day. I blame Eric for all my reactions in this ep for how he looks haha This is also a shorter review like last time but good stuff in it none the less. Off we go.

2x16 The Overnight

We start off with our lovely ship at American Idol auditions. A guy is getting arrested giving out meth smoothies. Lucy has to go back for his backpack. As she does she gets roped into an audition because it has his audition sticker. I’m surprised there wasn’t a gif set of her singing. It's such a good scene. I did my quick made one above with my phone. But a really good set should be produced. We get to hear Melissa’s wonderful voice again. It's in a much better context this time. Not a soul crushing and depressing way. She chooses a song from Aretha Franklin. 'I never loved a man'. She CRUSHES it.

I hope she gets another opportunity to showcase her voice in the future. The ending of this cold open cracks me up so much. The judges are impressed by her audition. Ready to give her that coveted golden ticket. Lucy hears Tim’s voice and bolts LOL Him bringing her back to reality. Their 'No no no' is so damn funny as she runs towards Tim. I love it so much. Tim having no idea what just happened. Thinking she's just running behind for no reason. Such a great cold open.

I love this scene for quite a few reasons. First and most importantly we get Tim Bradford in a suit. Sweet baby James. What a visual to start off the episode with. I need more this is my life. He should go to court more often. Honestly should be illegal to be that damn fine. *fans self* Second I find it very sexy he donates blood so often. I mean of course he does. To quote Lucy. Most Tim Bradford thing I've ever heard heh Tim as a person is just so friggin attractive.

Lastly I adore Nyla giving him a hard time. Doesn't waste a second before calling him a machine LOL Tim's face in that third gif is too cute. He's commending her shot and only shakes his head. How far Tim and Nyla have come. Reached a playful joking stage I love it. You know Lucy is enjoying someone else giving Tim crap. The proud wifey smirk of hers when he gets tossed his ball. I love them.

Lucy is running the front desk since Tim is off at court. She meets a reporter Valerie Castillo from the Herald asking for public arrest reports. She is looking for a scoop on recent robberies at 5 star hotels. Asking if Lucy has heard about them? Lucy says no. Valerie goes on to say she is trying to get away from Hollywood stories. Do something more impactful. So she can be taken seriously as a journalist. Lucy being her empathetic self wants to help her out. Lets her know the reports she’s looking at don’t have enough info. Tells her she wants CAD reports instead. Valerie asks what those are?

Tim comes striding in with the answer. Looking like sex on a stick in that suit. Good lord he can wear the hell out of that thing. Look at that fit on him. Thank you to his tailor. *chef's kiss* But I digress…Tim is clearly not a fan of this woman and what she is asking of Lucy. His cop gut going off and not liking this interaction at all. Tim instantly distrusts her and doesn't hide it.

Does crack me up they wrote Ros in as a character he can’t stand LOL I’m sure they had fun with this. Tim clearly doesn’t like the media especially her paper. Says her paper has a bias against cops. She bites back ‘Like the bias you have against me?’ She’s not wrong ha Tim says that's cute but isn't buying what she's selling.

Tim tells Lucy to get those reports back from her ASAP. That they’re gonna hit the streets as soon as he’s changed. Ooh lord the way he unbuttons his jacket and barks out his instructions on the move. Mercy. It shouldn't be that hot and yet here I am always a puddle. Ever the model just as much walking away as he came in. My god he's attractive haha It's truly not fair. Valerie says Tim shouldn't talk to her like that. Lucy is bemused by this statement.

Says he's her T.O. and its just his style with a smile on her face. (We all know she loves his style heh) I do love how this scene finishes out. Valerie saying ‘If ass is a style...but he sure can wear a suit’. Indeed madam indeed. Then proceeds to watch him leave LOL Checking out her own husband as he exits the scene haha Cracks me up. He does look damn fine in that suit. I can not blame her.

Tim instantly tries to steer Lucy away from Valerie. Telling her she’s bad news. Saying reporters always have an agenda. Lucy tries to be snarky and replies 'To get truth? Sounds Horrible.' Tim continues on despite her snark and says they aren’t to be trusted. Lucy being her sunshine self wants to see the good in Valerie. That she’s doing this to help the victims of these robberies. Tim thinks she’s being naive with this woman. Lucy battles back he just doesn’t trust anyone. Well that’s not true. He most definitely trusts you Lucy. With his life. But she has earned it ten fold out of him which is why she has it.

I’m with Tim on this one.(No surprise there I know ) That trust is something to be earned. I am the same way. It’s not something I just hand out like candy either. You have to prove to me you are worthy of that trust. Once you're in you're gold but you have to earn it first. He knows how trusting Lucy is and he doesn't want her to get burned by this person. This is his way of watching her back and trying to protect her from a potential disaster. Lucy doesn't heed his warning and it shows in her sassy face she gives him above. Lucy is so sure she is the right one in this situation. Like she is humoring him by listening.

They get a report of this idiot trying to use his snake to get out of paying for his car repairs. He pulls it out as a threat and It backfires pretty badly. As he waves the snake it bites him... (Like I said an idiot) I adore Lucy taking command of this situation. Also her heart for any living creature. I’m not a snake girl myself but I do love her taking the snake's side over this guy’s haha

This is our marriage scene of the episode. Tim says EMTs won’t step foot in here till the snake is neutralized. Tim says he’ll flush it out and kill it. Lucy is against this plan and tells Tim he can’t kill it. Their banter in this scene is primo. He is sassy right back asking what are they gonna do? Snuggle it? LOL Lucy ignores his sassy jab as she hops down and decides to do something herself. Tim isn't a fan of this plan since the snake is venomous.

Tim looks very concerned as he watches her. The way he raises his gun ready to destroy this thing if it goes after her. I love his face as she talks to the snake. Calling it by it's name, telling it she isn't going to hurt it haha He is wondering what she’s going to do with this thing. Then is impressed af when she traps the snake in a tire. What a bad ass moment for her. Snake whisperer can now go on her list of skills on the job ha Lucy proudly walks back to him with the best reply ‘Not his fault his owner is an idiot.' LOL I love this.

Valerie catches Lucy on the way out for the night. Claims she got her story about a Murphy scam. Rich men hiring sex workers then the sex worker has a partner. They rob and steal from them. The victim can’t report the crime without copping to their own. Says she came by to thank Lucy with a drink. (Mmhmm....)

Lucy is hesitant and says she shouldn’t…. You know that cop gut of hers is telling her it's wrong. Valerie asks 'Is it cause Tim wouldn't approve?' Lucy looks behind her like she can sense Tim’s disapproval from afar. Valarie sweetens the pot telling her she can be her inside person. Lucy concedes and decides to go. This can only end badly Lucy….

They make it to the hotel and Lucy quickly realizes they’re not there for a just a drink. Valerie has tracked one of the women who’s been scamming these men. Lucy is upset and feels betrayed. Says she can’t arrest people on her own. She’s a rookie. Valerie notices the man being scammed is a big time movie producer. Says this will get her a killer story and her a high profile arrest. You can see the regret written all over Lucy’s face.

Lucy tells Valerie she is texting Tim. I love this. She knows she’s in over her head at this point. So she is going to reach for her lifeline. Tells Valerie as such letting her know she could get fired as a rookie. That she needs a senior officer on scene. Also she really needs him to rein this in TBH. This has gotten way out of hand and needs Tim to come help her.

Tim arrives and Lucy thanks him for coming. (Like he wasn’t going to come and bail his girl out.) Doesn’t even have to say I told you so. This entire moment is doing it for him really. Lucy doesn’t fight or deny the hot water she is in. Not even a little. Just says ‘I’m in trouble aren’t I?’ His sexy Mm-hmm will do just fine for her. You know she’s just so relieved he's there to get her out of this. To save her from herself in this moment. The way she looks at him like he is her saving grace. Makes my heart happy. Doesn't even care she is in trouble just relieved he is there. So much said in such a small scene.

He looks sinfully handsome in that denim jacket *oh my lord.* Valerie says she’ll write a story about Tim if he punishes Lucy for this. Lucy panics and tells her not to do that. Tim isn’t phased at all by her intimidation of a story. The cocky way he walks into the room. Takes control of the situation. Says the cup against the wall trick doesn’t work. You know Lucy is rooting him on while he does this. Tim makes a joke about there being an app for that. Valerie believes him cause he walks in so confident and says that so damn smoothly. She can't help but reply 'Really?'

The way he says ‘No’ to her LMAO I'm dying. He is having a little fun in this moment messing with her. I love this man so much. Why is he so damn attractive in this moment? I actually know why ha. He's protecting Lucy and trying to do damage control at the same time. Also by taking control back from Valerie, by putting this situation back in his court. Tim calls in backup to help them if the accomplice even shows up. Tells Valerie she’ll be far away from the action if it comes to that. Not gonna let her get her story after potentially endangering Lucy for it.

The accomplice ends up arriving and Valerie has a ‘See’ look on her face. Thinking she is validated in all she's done to this point. Getting to watch Tim in action and in street clothes? Don’t mind if I do. They’re about to go after the guy when they notice Valerie is missing. She’s gone out on the balcony to get a photo. Clearly back tracking on her 'Killer Story' that'll get her taken seriously for a paparazzi shot instead.

She ends up getting her shot on the balcony but slips and Tim has to rescue her. She is refusing to let go of her phone as she hangs on to the railing. Lucy tells her to let the damn thing go. The guy sees them rescue her and takes off. Tim gets her up and takes off after the guy. Leaving Lucy with Valerie while he does so. This is the last we see of our handsome hero him in this ep sadly. The accomplice ends up getting arrested by a grumpy and tired Lopez in the lobby of the hotel LOL

Lucy’s SL wraps up with Valerie signing her statement. I love Lucy telling her like it is. Letting her know how wrong it was to take advantage like she did. Lucy is inclined to trust people and it bit her in the ass this time. (What he was trying to protect her from.) Unfortunately for her Tim was right on this one. She did have an agenda. Tim didn’t rub it in her face but also didn’t say she wasn’t in trouble for it haha Lucy has a mic drop moment with her. Telling her instead of going for the serious story she sold her on she went for the cheap shot. Gets up and walks away from her. Boom. Once again not a ton to content but still enough goodies ❤️

Miscellaneous Tag Game (stolen title <3)

A band you don’t like that many others do: UM idk...my music taste is all over the place and I really only know the bands i think?? oh- maybe Mother Mother, only because I have not bothered to listen to their music past Junkrat hype videos and that's probably tainted my view a little. For better or for worse.

A childhood memory that you remember vividly: during a summer in greece, idk how, but I got roped into selling watermelons off the side of the road. I couldn't have been more than 6 or 7, but I remember I would put the watermelon in a plastic bag and the farmers thought it was really funny because that's such a...united states thing...to bag 1 whole watermelon in plastic. Anyways, they paid me in cucumber slices with salt.

Least favorite animal and why: HUH LEAST. I'm not a huge fan of like reptiles? Specifically those smaller than a bread box. Too fast, too squirm. Im worried I'll crush them in my hands. (im thinking of specifically florida geckos...idk they are cute but i freak out trying to hold them).

Hot fandom take: just because something is popular and fandom-wide accepted doesn't mean it is good. and not agreeing with it/wanting to engage in it doesn't mean you or your own opinions are bad. the monopoly on accepted 1 true canon is boring.

Do you wear any jewelry, if so, what’s your favorite piece: I try an rotate my jewelry around but I'm usually wearing a few rings, a necklace and a pair of earrings. My favorites are the rings. They are my mom's old ones and I typically wear the same two every day. One is a gold key of greece and the other is a thin black bar but the sides have really small thin heart cut outs.

A movie others liked but you didn’t: HMMMMM probably the new star wars trilogy. felt unnecessary and i just didn't like it? big shruggies

Three things you love about yourself: my writing- its something that I enjoy the most in the world and something that I can claim as mine. I also think I'm pretty funny in a sillay way which is poggers. I like my openness to trying things. Think that's helped make me more well-rounded. I hope so at least.

A place you hope to visit in the future and why: HMMMMM. I want to visit Japan again. For a new place, I want to go to South America. Peru maybe??? Mexico would also be nice. So that's what I'm gearing up towards next.

An actor that gets on your nerves and why: Uh Matt Smith? No reason behind this. but I see his block head and kind of just look away.

Things you’re excited for in the nearby future? I have a lot of little house projects I finally feel like tackling which is exciting. Ive lived in my house for almost 2.5 years and still havent felt like parts of it are complete yet.

Least favorite ship in a fandom you’re in: oof I lowkey kind of hate saying things I don't like on here. bad experiences in the past when people were upset I didn't like a thing they did and got mad at me. But uhhh not the biggest fan of most rodimus ships? but I think mega/rod is my least favorite of them. sorry!

What’s the most toxic fandom you’ve been in? hahaahahahhahahah can you believe Game of Thrones wasn't the most toxic???? it was jjba. I got put on a ban list which was kind of funny. I also got kind of show-ponyed in a toxic discord server for a while which has completely ruined me in the ability to act normal on discord outside of my irl friends. that account is deleted but the ao3 is still circling around.

List three things you find beautiful about life: Friends and family- sometimes I want to kill but I really do love them so so much. I like creating things and creating things with people. I also really like my area as far as nature goes. the beach to swamp ratio sings to me.

Any dreams for the future? I want to go on a really long hike. Maybe like a 2 day one? (< says the person that has gone on a max 2 hour hike before). Also just working on my original fiction again. I miss those fellas.

How are you really feeling today? Motivated!!!! Im a little groggy still, but I've been really excited about life and betterment lately so its overcoming my sleepy brain.

speaking of the hades integrated au again: the deities that live on the underworld all love nico; charon sometimes gives him rides for free, hypnos will let him nap on his coat, the furies will spar with him. i would also completely ignore rr’s treatment of the chthonic deities and just say nyx loves him very much as well. i have a bias and its nico being loved by people.

Wisp i am sooo close to print out your asks and hang it on my walls right now.

YES YES YES ABSOLUTELY OBSESSING WITH NICO AND THE CHTHONIC DEITIES ALWAYS!!!

- Omg do you know that there’s actually a Hades x PJO fic in which Alecto has a soft spot for Nico?? Like Zagreus takes Nico on a day of work and they encounter Alecto and she’s just like,,, “Nico go hide behind a pillar or something while i deal with Zagreus” akdhkwhdkahska I’M SCREAMING!!! And she actually parries the fight away from him???!!! Alecto is definitely the scary aunt.

And Meagara. I read in another fic she calls him “Young Lord”, once, and i haven’t been normal ever since. Then she’s like “You’re grounded!!” and i can already picture the three Furies help raise Nico over the years as his secondary guardians. Alecto plays the sternly reprimanding one and Meagara gives punishments (most grounding) and Tisiphone just straight up fights him or takes him around poking fun.

Btw it’s so funny to think that the Furies fight with Zagreus daily but would take it easy when it comes to Nico. “Why can’t you be cute like your little brother?” Zag doesn’t mind tho he’s just amused. Would be ten times funnier if you consider the ZagMeg ship. (I know little about this tho)

AND ALSO Alecto did in fact acts like Nico and Bianca’s guardian in the PJO series. That’s it. She treats them like her own children bc i say so.

- Charon. My man. I read somewhere he calls Nico “Your Majesty”. And my mind has been haunted ever since.

The Charon in Hades would probably growl all the while listening to Nico complaining and whining about his problems, LMAO. Nico supposes he can’t talk other than growling so it’s like a confession so there’s that.

- Yes, thank you Wisp, Hypnos would definitely let Nico nap on his coat. Oh and he would send piles of fluffy cotton pillows stocking in Nico’s huge canopy bed just because he can. And also the little kid can really use some sleep to lighten his eye bags.

I haven’t mentioned this but I do have an obsession over Nico sleeping. Like he looks so peaceful, so at peace that my heart melts. So when Zagreus storms in the room for a play day, Hypnos would hastily cover the sleep Nico’s ears before kicking Zag out.

And yes, he would fight Morpheus if it’s what needed to keep Nico’s nightmares at bay.

Hypnos criticizing Hades’ choice of bedroom furnitures for Nico aldhakhdka this just came up and now i can’t stop cackling——

- Nyx. Oh my gods my Fair Lady of the Eternal Night (no actually i just made it ip). I love her so much as a deity yet Rick did her dirty. :(

If I’m not wrong, I do recall Nyx as a mother figure in the Hades game? Pretty sure she is. She seems loving to Zagreus. So I don’t think she has any reason to dislike Nico. If PJO’s Nyx was any like Hades’, perhaps Nico wouldn’t have suffered that much in Tartarus.

Btw I have another essay post about Erebus, the personification of darkness, adoring and blessing Nico. I stand by what i said.

- And Wisp you forgot my signor Angel of Death, Thanatos. He’s totally complaining to Nico about Zagreus and his piling work. He teaches him how to shadow travel efficiently. He greets him when they meet in the palace or wherever. He calls him “little Prince” and fixes his hair.

Nico stands between Thanatos and Jason’s soul. The god looks at him, pity and sadness hidden under the coldness in his eyes, his voice is calm and gentle, like coaxing an upset child. Nico probably looks like it. “I have to finish my job, Nico.” Before Nico can even breathe out another beg slash threat, Thanatos extends a hand. “But perhaps, we can find another way with your father.”

Nico hasn’t realized he has been shaking until then. Thanatos looks sympathetic enough, and Nico suddenly remembers that the god has probably seen enough of the living clinging to their deceased loved ones. He thinks about how Thanatos might be feeling and he can’t bring himself to resent the god’s pity anymore. Instead, he feels embarrassed for lashing out at the reaper, who is only doing his assigned job and yet takes his time to be gentle with a demanding child like him.

Nico takes a quivering breath and lets go, nodding for Jason to take Thanatos’ welcome hand, as he too makes his way to the god’s side. A steady hand on his shoulder, Nico meets Thanatos’ gaze, a silent encouragement in his deep pupils and pursed lips. “You’ve got this.”

He doesn’t know if it’s true, because Thanatos is just a reaper and despite Hades’ favoritism, Nico’s just a helpless half-mortal compared to the absolute of death, but the demigod musters all his strength for a soundless thank you and hope it reaches the god as the shadows engulf them all.

And if you consider the ThanZag ship, they would have helped Nico come to better term with his own sexuality. The Cupid incident wouldn’t have happened and Nico wouldn’t have been so cruelly played with. Or it could happen all the same, and then Zagreus pries the earth open to stab Eros in the chest.

- And how can we forget the princesses!!! My fair ladies, Makaria and Melinoe. Well Melinoe probably doesn’t like Nico that much due to Persephone’s quest, but Makaria can take Nico to a relaxing afternoon in Elysium and tell him stories about the heroes. She shows him every corner of her paradise. She cups his face and hugs him close, a hand draws circles on his back when he’s shaking like a leaf, his voice shatters when he asks her, “If they have done so much to be seen as heroes, shouldn’t they be allowed to live longer to get their own happiness?”

Is this all? I don’t know. My mind is still laying ideas like eggs and this ask isn’t helping at all.

favorite character: niles and lilith are honestly tied, which is pretty impressive given that niles is in almost every episode and lilith shows up once a season max

funniest character: once again i have to give it to niles just because dhp’s sense of delivery and physical comedy is unmatched

best-looking character: ROZ AND LILITH don’t make me choose

3 favorite ships: niles/daphne forever obviouslyyyy, i can always go for roz/lilith, and just for fun frasier/cam winston they’re goofy

least favorite character: gertrude moon. let’s be honest daphne’s whole extended family. side note isn’t it wild that daphne’s dad is brian cox

least favorite ship: frasier/roz is just so boring to me. the show got it right they fuck once and go “huh nope never again”

reason why i watch it: i really do find it to be a smart and engaging show! it’s well-regarded for a reason and it’s because all of the writers very clearly were dedicated to their craft. shout out joe keenan ily joe keenan

why i started watching it: i like watching gay episodes of older shows and it turns out i really, really liked the matchmaker, and i just kept watching it, then ski lodge, then the doctor is out, and finally i said to myself “i should just be watching this whole show actually”. and i was right

Seinfeld

favorite character: i think i have to go with george on this one his specific brand of Being just rings so true. he sucks he’s doodoo and it’s very fun

funniest character: probably george again. he just hits my funny bone idk what to tell you

best-looking character: elaine! have you seen her.

3 favorite ships: the idea of having “ships” for this show full of the worst people in the worst relationships is a little laughable but george/any man is funny enough for me to consider

least favorite character: this one’s tough because most of the annoying characters are one-offs and so you don’t have time to resent their presence; they’re purely functional. sometimes they lean a little hard with newman

least favorite ship: the inverse of george/any man, which is of course jerry/any woman. he doesn’t deserve any of them, and i’m including elaine

reason why i watch it: i love shows full of people who suck and seinfeld got that shit right in an era where we were supposed to like our tv leads a lot more. for a show that’s hailed as being “about nothing” it’s somehow both mundane and full of plots that you could not get anywhere else. every time i think about the junior mint i just go. what the fuck.

why i started watching it: seinfeld is my one of my dad’s special interests so i was indoctrinated young

favorite character: benjamin franklin “hawkeye” pierce has quickly worked his way into my heart

funniest character: hawkeye again but tbh honorable mention to frank because something about him is just so stupid and goofy and it’s really hitting me lately. aw nertz you know

best-looking character: what was the one episode with radar and like the nurse who liked bach. i seem to remember her being exactly my type lol. and margaret

3 favorite ships: hawkeye really does need to fuck men. for enrichment. hunnihawk is classic, as is piercintyre, and my eyes have been opened to hawkeye/sidney. i wish i could talk about more women but i don’t want margaret to have to deal with any of these men and i haven’t met helen whitfield yet so i can’t speak to her. and there are sadly not nearly as many women on this show. its biggest flaw i’d say

least favorite character: i really don’t have one in mind they all generally work very effectively. i suppose that i think flagg is less fun to hate than, say, frank, but they serve very different purposes so i don’t mind that i react to them differently—flagg is recurring, not a regular, so it’s right that he’s best in small doses. is this enough of an answer

least favorite ship: cannot get behind hawkeye/radar. that’s literally his aunt you guys

reason why i watch it: i feel like it’s boring that i keep answering “it’s a really good and compelling piece of television” but why do you watch tv shows. because they’re good and you like them. that and i do suppose i like to see how gay of a sentence hawkeye can say without being questioned. Oh boy. oh bouyyyyyyyy.

Ok anyone super familiar with me knows that my #1 shinji romance is shinji/hakupo tsukishiro. i had seen both of them used separately in an ancient utau medley video. neither of their voicebanks were used very well. but i was obsessed with their designs. they were my favourites out of the bunch and contrasted so well w each other so i made them duet suki kirai . they don’t have super concrete personalities so it’s really fun to imagine them as a silly ‘opposite-type’ romance where they endearingly bother each other and act as each other’s grounding force. Even more fun if you consider a UTAUniversity or similar setting where shinji is a rowdy and delinquent band club member and hakupo is a carefree, slacker-type guy :*]

I’m surprised I’m not more into shinji/nitarou otodamaya because that’s definitely the most ‘canon’ character duo. It’s fun to imagine them as childhood friends who are really close and not afraid to be affectionate w each other… and since im a gay guy with a bad habit of crushing on friends i know that theres definitely some kind of deep-seated longing in one or both parties. Maybe they had something once but continued on as friends. Maybe they fooled around one night and never spoke of it again. Maybe nothing has happened yet but it inches closer. But I definitely enjoy their dynamic of ‘reckless guy being an enabler to his voice of reason’ lolol

A pair I’ve been considering a LOT recently is shinji/piggy!!!! Piggy’s VP (buuta) is in the vkeiloid circle and thus she counts as part of their entourage. to me. I’m really bad at distinguishing whether a character pairing is platonic or romantic and dont really care at this point. Shinji and piggy in my brain go on shopping trips and dinner dates and out to karaoke. it’s interesting 2 imagine them bonding with each other over living in the city and being part of subculture scenes. I imagine they have a really compatible dynamic where they can talk really easily to each other and are just really loose and comfortable being weird together.

Shinji/soho is another really funny one I consider being similar in nature to him and piggy. Soho to me is kind of a free agent where he’s noncommittal but affectionate towards anyone he’s friends with. Shinji is probably one of soho’s closest friends where he feels comfortable being totally real to him. they’ve seen everything and love each other dearly. But like at the same time soho is also in a fucked up love triangle with nitarou and kotaro because they’re all friends and in a band and theyre all kind of gay about it

^and of course on that tangent i am also dedicated to the idea that Yes Everyone In Shinji’s Band Is Kind Of In Love With Each Other. or at display a lot of affection and are just generally really close. I like to think that they all live in a cramped apartment together with a really big bed that they all cuddle together in. I have a lot of feelings about the individual relationships between band members but i need more time to think about that before i write it down lolol. but in the meantime here’s an awesome chart showing some of it. i bet i even forgot some of it but oh well

Good morning! Guess who’s writing a mini kyokao ship manifesto first thing in the morning as soon as she is free from her temporary job. its me. its ya gurl. happy pride everyone!

Soo my last post on this matter made me think a LOT about that one mamedanuki exchange/scene, and my lifelong thoughts on it all became more clear the more I reflected upon it. What I am trying to say here is: I never thought he referred to Haruhi in this scene unlike a majority of readers for many reasons (to the dismay of my preteen self who liked this ship to bits too) and before realizing it could as well be about Kaoru I thought “Tamaki then?” but it still made very little sense.

Because Kyouya is THE TamaHaru #1 shipper from the get-go. From the anime-only “maybe it’s the beginning of a love story” and episode 25 shenanigans, to the manga-only crazy efforts he makes to help Tamaki (he was SO tired doing the France trip it’s not even funny . . ) and Haruhi realize and tell their feelings to each other, and even the small “tip” he gives Haruhi at the end so their relationship will progress. He is just their official best man.

And I just don’t think he would ever ACTUALLY think of getting in the way of their love. Even if he did have a crush on any of them (or both) at some point. He supports them too much. He had a lot of opportunities to get in their way, yet he never did. And sure, the point of that exchange might be just that. Leave it open-ended enough so any shippers will be happy about it all.

But as much as I did like KyoHaru I think it was never meant to happen. The iconic bed scene is the most obvious display of that: Haruhi who always ~ sees what’s in everyone’s hearts ~ is like “lol pfft you wouldn’t do a thing” and Kyouya is all “haha what a genius :) you’re something else” and Tamaki comes and sees the scene and goes GRRRR but Kyouya throws a bottle of whatever at him and walks away as if saying “on the other hand this guy right here.. :/ opposite of genius” .

There’s two things about this: first, Kyouya DID say it is fine if only those who care enough get to know who we really are, and at that point he was fully unconcerned with what Haruhi was going to think - he did the evaluation and she just happened to pass it. Secondly, it seems like Tamaki is too dumb to ever get past the evaluation, but it was the same with every other host - he just knocks down the barriers like a dumb wild golden retriever and everyone moves on with their lives. It’s Tamaki’s thing. He ‘d never play the damn game.

For better or for worse. And I think that’s why TamaKyo shippers have a point - people who want a “star-crossed lovers” kind of dynamic will find themselves more at home with TamaKyo because Tamaki mindlessly and effortlessly avoids the game and just knows people intuitively (again, dumb golden retriever lol)

When Kyouya and Haruhi go on a “date” he is already more honest with her, but even then, their date lacks romance most of all. Then again, that is what people use to explain why Kyouya was also a candidate for Haruhi’s affections (unlike, say, Honey and Mori) which is fair. It makes sense. But the entire point of the date was for Haruhi to go “ohh I get you now” which seems to be in line with Kyouya’s motto of “those who you care about should know you” and shows that he did start caring for her - romantically or ? Up to readers’ interpretations.

In other words, Tamaki is everyone’s favorite dumb golden retriever and Haruhi is everyone’s favorite MPDG (for lack of a better term - the charming girl who appears out of nowhere to change everyone’s lives, but a subversion of the stereotype at least) and that’s not an exclusive Kyouya thing or feeling. It’s just how they are, and this is why the entire club supports them so much.

But Tamaki will never (be able to) play the damn game for better or for worse, and Haruhi will never be Kyouya’s MPDG for better or for worse (because she simply doesn’t possess traits Kyouya dreams of for a partner ie. pedigree shit) .

But Honey’s statement (you know, Honey - the see-all, the mature one) implies that Kyouya should have done something about ... something else. Which we are likely to imply that 1) he should’ve told Haruhi his feelings of love for her, or at most 2) he should’ve told Tamaki his feelings of love for him ?? .

Kyouya’s stereotype leads us to believe he is blind to everyone’s feelings but 1) he has Intel (first to know Haruhi’s sex and all that) 2) he really isn’t (the “did you expect he ‘d fall in love?” exchange with Kaoru comes to mind) . Honey implies that he is blind to his own feelings only. But with everything that was going on, he would hardly have been able to remain blind to his own feelings if they involved Haruhi in my opinion - and Tamaki, guess he would but Kyouya doesn’t strike me as the kind whod tell Honey the actual reason why he didn’t go forward with it is that he “doesn’t want to ruin what he found” when what he found is being friendzoned without a fight. That’s not very Kyouya-like. If he thought of himself as the better partner, he would hardly go without a fight. Not being favored not once kept him from trying .. anything really. So we’re meant to believe he found something else. The club’s unity? Or he just thinks TamaHaru is the better couple? Both?

It’s undeniable that Kyouya loves the club so really, let’s look at it again. He is staring at the four of them going “I’m happy with what I ‘ve found” . Indeed he found the club still together in spite of every instance of kiss kiss fall in hug love that happened in the process and boy, some were messy and that’s what we are supposed to extract from the scene regardless of shipping preferences. Club mommy is happy that the club lives on period.

Still Honey thinks Kyouya should’ve said something. Whatever it is, it’s a thing that could’ve given them another ending or scene - but does Honey really think Kyouya should’ve been able to get in the way of TamaHaru somehow, which Hikaru didn’t despite all of his desperate attempts? In other words, does he think the part of the scene that would change would be ... the main couple? Or is he actually saying “it wouldn’t change a thing but you should’ve told them” (to the strategist Kyouya of all people) ? Or something else?

Honey starts the exchange saying “what happened to Kao-chan was unexpected” . And then Kyouya “me, that mamedanuki?” actually kinda surprised - almost offended even, as if Honey had been outrageous! ACTUALLY caught by surprise! - until he gives it a thought and concludes. And then Kyouya explains the reasons he didn’t consider the mamedanuki whoever that is 1) he is looking for a partner with merit for Ootori family 2) he’s happier with this end.

Merit for family in this context should imply marriage, huh .. when one says marriage in a Japanese setting we are meant to imply a man/woman arrangement so people jumped to the conclusion of “oh yeah, Haruhi” . But broadly speaking it would rule out all four of them - yes it could mean not Haruhi because of her finances but it could mean any man if we’re talking marrying in Japan meaning he could be talking about any of them. Or none of them since Kyouya never explicitly ruled out poor people for relationships (the friendly ones) and the rule shouldn’t be as strict for the half French heirs and he did move to the US (that’s just manga coding for crazy rich asian gay I don’t make the rules) . So moot point. (But of all I guess the twins would bring the least merit anyways .. )

Point two being he is happier with this end, because he acknowledges the mamedanuki as a person but it’s not his thing (heavily implied: kissing kissing falling in love) which takes us back to asking then what is the alt ending .. ?

My opinion is that the part of the scene that’s Tamaki and Haruhi together wouldn’t have changed in any situation. Kyouya gave TamaHaru a much needed push, but it’s not like he sparked the fire - Hikaru did, actually. And Hikaru only did cuz Kaoru did - hence “did you expect him to fall in love?” . Yet Honey is referring to romantic prospects for Kyouya because Kyouya starts talking about partner and marriage and stuff. Again: did Honey seriously think Kyouya could have changed anything about TamaHaru . . ?

With the way Kyouya replies it’s like (he is actually caught by surprise and) it’s someone that wasn’t considered before hardly the girl his best friend caught him on bed with and hardly said best friend “the daddy” and whoever his aim should be is up for grabs because he is “ehh .. could be but yaddayadda” . Yet he is happier with what he got.

Who does Kyouya acknowledge as a person? Judging by the teams he makes whenever there’s a job to get done, well Kaoru. Who would bring the least merit were him to marry anyone there? Still Kaoru (the twins, actually) . And I did explain why mamedanuki could mean Kaoru before. Who was Honey talking about at the beginning of this exchange? . . . guess it.

And what did he get, then? Well, if you think about it, at some point things were a mess because Tamaki and Haruhi were oblivious to each other’s feelings and there was some strain in the twins’ relationships to them and to each other. So the four of them couldn’t be together like this. At that point, the twins could’ve been set apart, particularly if Haruhi chose Hikaru, and even though she didn’t Kaoru was lonelier - and if you think about it this was partly Kaoru’s fault too because he realized first “what happens if the both of us like the same thing?” and all so he ended up rushing things. He was selfless, but ultimately quite doomed. The club could’ve ended. During the crisis Kaoru was often left out. During those times Kyouya would pick him (hence Honey’s “so Kao-chan picked Kyo-chan lol?!” )

Soo a lot of bad things could have happened but in the end Tamaki and Haruhi were marrying because both had mutual feelings that couldn’t be set apart by anyone, the twins were still together - albeit having grown up and found out their individuality - and friends with them best of all. So the four of them were happily together. If things had happened any other way, Kaoru would probably feel the guiltiest and loneliest of all. And pretty sure it wasn’t Kyouya’s intention to remove him from that circle either. In other words - if Kyouya and Kaoru were to grow closer Kaoru would be removed from the scene even if all else had gone right so to speak. But Kyouya didn’t actually hold on to Kaoru even though it’s damn obvious he can easily tell the twins apart and thought it was a good thing for them to allow themselves to be different people. But he stepped back as soon as Hikaru found himself annoyed by the lack of Kaoru as if saying “okay you go back now, mission complete” . Treat them as a pack if they want it but only enough so they know they are not.

The Dream of the Lobster

I. Lobster

It is the second day. I woke up with no alarm.

I like to think of myself as an early riser.

The sun was already up, or maybe I would have had trouble seeing. It was still dark outside, and the only light had been the sunrise that I could see.

I lay in bed for a little while, listening to the ocean.

It's true what they say: it can't get you if you don't let it. This means you are in the same position as a lobster.

In that position you are the one with the ability to defend yourself, but you can also do nothing, and be eaten. This is the life of a lobster.

Lobsters, at least, get to stay in bed a bit longer. That's what I think.

II. Lighthouse

Lobsters love lighthouses. They like to watch for ships, and think about being eaten by them. Some, like me, will never know of the light-loving's fate, but I wonder what it is like to see the lighthouse's beam and know your doom.

It's like being a lighthouse: you are far above the ocean, in a place that never gets dark, and that is your domain. In the distance there are other lighthouses, on other towers, and then there is a big one in the middle that is your place.

And if they get there, you can see them coming. You know how to deal with them: you can put up your light and point them in the direction they should go.

They do, too. But when it happens to them, they go where it points. When you turn your light on them, they turn in the direction of the light. It is easy to understand how they might want to keep their light on during a storm, but still do this.

It is also possible that they would like to turn off their light. But no one really knows this.

When I think about my life as a lobster, that is when I have my doubts.

III. Moon

I always thought my mind was a lobster, when it was really just a lobster's brain on a human body. When I was sleeping, I had my mind, and when I wasn't I didn't. It made more sense than anything else.

It also made more sense than how I felt about the lighthouse. A lobster can see lighthouses more clearly than most creatures. It can see and know the shape of the tower, even if it can't see its light. It can see and know the shape of the lighthouse's light and how it is to be pointed.

I don't know the shape of my mind. I am just a body that does what I tell it to do. I can't go around my thoughts the way I can go around a lighthouse. There is no lighthouse that would tell me where I needed to go.

The body is the true lighthouse, after all. I get to do what it says.

IV. The House

I am walking in my dreams.

It was a little house, with trees everywhere, and a path that led down to the sea. When I walk on that path it is always the same: I am walking towards something. The path always leads to the ocean.

When I got there I woke up. I was walking to the ocean. I was a lobster walking to the ocean. And I was not the only lobster on the path. There were others like me, all going towards the ocean. I remember the other lobsters, but I don't remember going there.

I had to leave. It is impossible to stay, and I was being eaten by my mind. But if I was going, then I was going to go back. I had to do what I did, but I did not know how.

I was not a lobster. I wasn't even a lobster's body on a human mind. I was only a human being in a body that was also a lobster, so I had a few more things in common with the lobsters.

But I didn't have their power. I could think of lighthouses, but not the ocean. It was my choice, but I made it. And it didn't look much like an ocean. There was no moon, and no light at all. It was completely black.

I got back on the path, away from the house. I turned and there was another path. It led off into the distance, and down to the ocean.

It's funny how you have to start somewhere. You are only here because you have been here before. And yet, as soon as you get somewhere, you have to go somewhere else. You can only go from one place to another place.

It was a place where I am not, or was not. It is a place I was never allowed to see. I am a lobster, but I am not a lobster's brain. I don't have that kind of power. So what did I do?

deku: well we chased him so hard that he ate shit and after catching him me and kacchan spent 37 minutes and 43 seconds laughing in his face.

reporter: *so done with these fucking losers* thank you, deku. please keep doing your best.

deku: *literally smiling like a ray of light* of course!

bakugou: *just coming back from chatting with cops* did you tell the dude how that extra ate shit.

reporter, while deku and bakugou start dying laughing again: *tiredly* this has been the news.

i don’t necessarily ship them but this is funny LMAO

like separately— reporters and everyone in PR like them just fine. bakugou? he definitely had a colorful vocabulary, but hey, when reporters ask him the really interesting questions, he’ll deliver on the answers. (but ngl getting interesting questions from reporters are rare for bakugou since reporters kinda ask him the same (ex: you took down that villain today, yes? you were in top speed, did you break your record in villain takedowns?) but again i kinda don’t blame him that man is something else 😭 /lh)

as for izuku, he’s either a heaven sent or kind of a mess 💀 again, the reporters like him more than bakugou because of how nice and sunshine-y he is. it’s definitely a nice break from getting lambasted /hj

(at the same time, he’s so authentic it hurts 😨 and i mean it in the way that he’ll give a really detailed answer in such a short amount of time AND sometimes he’ll go off track but its okay because he’s the number 1 hero, right 😃 but it’s still kind of hell for reporters because they gotta think of a quick and witty response 😭 poor them sometimes 💀)

but put those two together 😭 romantically or platonically— they’d be every reporter’s (and also every pr employee’s) worse nightmare because 😭😭 they’re a mess together whether they realize it or not and even when they do realize it it kinda gets messier but hey! the memes

like there’s this one comic i saw of izuku giving a response in an interview and bakugou just runs into the frame and screams at him randomly— and izuku laughs, being alarmed 😭 (it was also based off an actual interview, though idk which one ☹️💀) and i think that’s pretty accurate. they’re so chaotic in media.

but this is absolute hell when they actually need to be professional and serious 💀 both of their pr teams are always this 🤏 close to just crying on the floor that one midsommar scene style every time they’re supposed to be giving a professional-yet-authentic response to reporters, and even press conferences because it’s almost impossible when those two are in the same frame istg
