[twenty-two minutes to midnight]
hange zoe is a special brand of stupid.
at least that’s what levi thinks as his friend says, stupidly, “if neither of us are kissing anyone at midnight, i guess i’ll have to kiss you, levi.”
levi ackerman makes it his special mission to be as far as possible from his friend before the clock strikes 12. when it comes to hange, his ever-scowling lips are for critical judgment and insults only.
“pass,” he scoffs, rolling his eyes when they pout at him.
“but what about all those times you asked me how to—”
“this conversation is over,” he deadpans, emphasizing his point by walking away.
but levi has learned long ago that there’s no walking away from hange. they drags themselves up and away from the table to follow, throwing a heavy arm around his shoulders. “why not though? are you planning on kissing someone else tonight?”
their tone is teasing, but their eyes give them away. hange’s fishing for a specific answer.
“no,” he answers much too quickly to be nonchalant.
his friend just smirks. “she’s here, you know. erwin said she just got back a few weeks ago.”
“i had no idea.” (he already knew.)
“she’s still single.”
“i don’t care.” (he might care.)
they hum thoughtfully. “so you wouldn’t mind if i kissed her instead?”
levi doesn’t answer this time, shoving his friend’s arm off his shoulder and trying to disappear into the party.
erwin’s parties were always too big, in his opinion. he packed his penthouse apartment to the brim, and how anyone had this many friends, he had no idea. at least the sheer amount of people would allow him the opportunity to slip away, maybe hide in some quiet corner wearing a scowl that could repel the bravest souls.
(and if he hides, there’s no way he’ll run into you, right?)
[twelve minutes to midnight]
by merely thinking of you, levi’s mother would probably say he was tempting fate. his mother was almost always right, loathe as he was to admit it.
because, yeah, it’s barely twenty minutes later when he spots you across the room, sipping champagne while chatting with miche and hange.
you have your back to him, but he knows that it’s you. it’s instinct— the way his eyes linger down the familiar shape of your body. he traces each curve draped in blue silk the way his hands once did.
levi could go over there. he could tell you that you look gorgeous in that dress. he could tell you that he misses you, needs you, loves you…
but then miche would make that face, and hange would fail to bite back that smile, and levi would have to block both their numbers and all their social media accounts again.
he could tell you these things, but he’s never figured out how. levi likes to handle things on his own and refuses to show weakness to anyone.
so he turns on his heel and heads in the opposite direction instead, towards the kitchen to look for a drink. he wasn’t really one for alcohol, but he needed it tonight.
he’s frowning over the various bottles when erwin appears, a knowing grin on his face. he has a habit of materializing out of nowhere when levi’s at his weakest.
“looking for anything in particular?” the blond asks.
“just a beer,” he mutters.
erwin hums, contemplative, then lists various drinks. “let’s see. there are have craft brews, ipa, winter wheat—”
levi makes a face. when the fuck did beer get complicated? “what the hell is a winter wheat?”
“it’s beer, levi,” he chuckles, shooting him an amused look. it lasts a second too long, and is followed by, “you saw her, didn’t you?”
“what does that have to do—”
“are we talking about levi’s love life?”
“no, we’re not,” levi snaps, shooting miche a warning glare that his dumb friend chooses to ignore.
“come on, we’ve known about your crush for years now,” the man continues, judging him slightly. “remember when you got drunk on hange’s birthday?”
“ah, yes,” erwin sighs, as if he’s recalling a particularly fond memory. “when you announced that you sorely missed—”
“oh my god. i hate my life,” levi mutters, turning on his heel and making his escape as the two grown men giggle like schoolgirls. he grabs the most expensive looking bottle of liquor, yanking the cork out and tossing it onto the counter.
“maybe you’ll hate your life less if you get laid!”
levi flips them both off before slipping out onto the balcony, content to hide out here until the countdown is over. the door slowly slides shut behind him, muffling the mellow music and cheery laughter inside.
he sets the bottle he’d swiped on the parapet, looking out at the twinkling city lights. these parties were much too suffocating, full of bright-eyed people that seemed keen on conversing with him no matter how reproachful his gaze.
he doesn’t turn around when he hears the door slide open and shut behind. he already knows who’s followed him outside.
winter here provides a crisp cool, but levi doesn’t mind, slipping his suit jacket off and tossing it onto a patio chair. you don’t seem to mind it either, bare back pressed against the parapet as you smile over at him.
“you didn’t say hello,” you murmur, leaning towards him. levi steals a glance at you, eyes wandering down the column of your neck to the tempting plunge of your neckline.
“hey,” he grunts, holding out the bottle he’d swiped in offering.
you accept it, taking a small sip. your face immediately pinches in displeasure, causing levi’s to crack with a small grin.
“how’s your night?” you ask out of nowhere.
“bored,” he answers stiffly, scuffing the toe of his shoe against the patio. “though i don’t suppose you actually care.”
you chuckle at that, your amusement barely audible over the breeze. you both know that’s not true. “just making conversation.”
“you’re pretty shit at it.”
the air between you both is suddenly hot, but levi shivers at the brush of your fingers against the corded muscle of his arm. your touch burns like fire across his skin as you murmur,
“shut me up then.”
his gaze falls to your mouth, pulse thundering in his ears as he leans forward and closes the distance. levi moves on instinct, locking a hand around your hip and pulling you closer. he swallows your surprised gasp with a kiss, but you don’t pull away.
he kisses you softly at first, each touch and movement of his mouth hesitant as he tests your boundaries. your hands move up his chest, grabbing fistfuls of his shirt collar and somehow pulling him closer, kissing him back with a fervor that makes him dizzy. your insistent mouth parts his lips, sending tremors through his nerves and awakening sensations he wants to feel again. it’s a good kiss. not bad for the first one you share in front of your friends (who are all gathered at the window) announcing your relationship as the clock the strikes midnight.

A Retelling of My Mind Whilst Reading Shadow Kissed-
Omg it's the Sixth Sense up in this bitch
Bitch when are you ever "just tired" when weird shit starts happening to you, I swear to fuck.
Rose is so me because I too would rather die than spend an extended amount of time with my best friends boyfriend.
Eddie Castile the man that you are.
From the bottom of my heart I hope Jesse gets his shit rocked.
Omg Rose girl do something, ANYTHING. YOU'RE EMBARRASSING US.
Least Favorite Trope: Entire plot would be resolved if this dumbass just like communicated the issues she is having OMFG.
If Rose Hathaway has no haters all her teachers must be dead because wtf is their issue???
Homegirl is unstable at best.
I feel like at this point she should probably go to where Mason the Friendly Ghost is pointing.
Girly-pop that's not a migraine....
I do not fucking trust that bitch Tatianna
*Viktor explains master plan* "Cool motive still murder"
*Law and Order sounds*
HE JUST SAID THAT SHIT IN OPEN COURT IT'S ON THE RECORD
How much of an asshole do you have to be that it's more believable that you're lying than a crime having actually happened lol
Lissa is so clueless it's kinda funny.
You know what I hope Rose fucks Adrienne and gets pregnant just to spite Tatianna.
She wants her nails done omg she's just a girl 🥺
*starts looking at my tarot book to see if this is accurate*
I love when Dimitri starts lore dropping to Rose
Well.... I think they know about the ghosts now.
That doctor is the only rational adult at the school cause literally why tf didn't she talk to a counselor.
Her therapist just clocked her so hard.
Well that's an unfortunate fact about Shadow Kissed Anna
Dimitri took part in that attack exercise specifically so she would hop on it lmao
Can't even celebrate for a moment before Lissa is off doing something dumb I swear to god
Lissa try not to get tortured challenge go
*New power unlocked*
YES ROSE BEAT HIS ASS GIRL......oh shit.....GIRL YOU GOT HIM IT'S GOOD.
She's like a feral cat.... Dimitri should use a spray bottle.
Oh my GOD IT'S HAPPENING EVERYONE REMAIN FUCKING CALM
Girl you gotta give me more details than that PLEASE
"My body ached" that'll happen when your first time is with a 6'7 Russian built like a tank
CAN WE NOT HAVE ONE GOD DAMN MOMENT OF PEACE
Girl I'm gonna throw up he's all alone out there.
CHRISTIAN OZERA THE MAN THAT YOU ARE
HE DIDN'T DIE THANK FUCK
Mason upstaging Dimitri even from the afterlife that's my man right there.
SECRET TUNNELS, SECRET TUNNELS THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS
The uncanny ability that 17 year old female herions have to radicalize societies is amazing
Do y'all think Dimitri came up with that life plan while he was fighting the strigoi?
"You're scared of my mother" um yea girl she's fs going to catch an attempted murder charge once she finds out.
*Clenched my jaw so tight during the cave fight it started to hurt*
Oh my God girl stop internal monologuing about how everything is going to work out THAT ALWAYS GOES POORLY
Oh God it's that blonde bitch from earlier this is going to be so much worse than him being dead.
Rose: *literally tries to throw herself back into a vicious attack just to save Dimitri's body*
Everyone Else: She just respected him as a teacher so much there's no other possible explanation.
Lissa clocking what was happening with Rose and Dimitri just now is like when someone steals the answer on Wheel of Fortune after the other contestant mispronounced the phrase
*Knows it's definitely going to happen* "Dimitri is a strigoi"*gasps*
I'm shocked they didn't grab like a single Guardian teacher to try and talk down Rose like why tf did they think Kirova would have any affect.
I know it's not malicious on Lissa's part but I'm glad Rose is finally speaking about how one sided this relationship is.
"Off to kill the man I love" oh this next book is going to fuck me up.

Well… You Weren’t Gonna Do It!;
Tumblr media
Summary: Prince Lucas Larson Tremaine-Westergaard of the Southern Isles is either the best wingman ever or the worst. It all depends on who you ask. Hannah wasn't sure which she agreed with more. Author's Note: Hannah, Skia, and Luke are 16. Haul is 18. This is during their time running the circus. Trigger warnings; Anxiety, forcing someone out of their comfort zone, could be seen as dissociation, mention of barf, murderous thoughts, etc.
🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
Her hands were sweaty.
Her throat felt dry.
And her heart was racing as her mind continued to run a mile a minute, forcing her to think of EVERYTHING that could go.
Hannah didn't want to do this anymore.
Didn't want to ask Haul out anymore.
She wished she had never suggested Luke come with her and make sure she did it. No matter what excuse she came up with or how nervous she got. Which she always did.
It was a dumb idea.
A dumb, dumb, dumb idea that was gonna ruin a friendship of three years when it inevitably went wrong.
Her arms and legs felt heavy, as if she was swimming through molasses.
Hannah was sure that if it wasn't for Luke quite literally pushing her forward she wouldn't have moved very close toward her target at all.
Which was probably one of the reasons she had insisted he come with her this time.
She was such a fucking moron.
Why had she thought this was a good idea?
"Hey Haul!"
What. The. Fuck.
Why did Luke call out to him?!
WHY?!
'Because otherwise he wouldn't have noticed us' The red head reminded her from inside her head.
'Shut up Luke. No one asked you.'
'It sounded like you were for a minute'
'Skia! You were supposed to be on MY side!'
'Nope. You made your grave, now lie in it.'
'I'm pretty sure that is not the expression but since you're siding with me and not Hannah, I'm gonna let it slide.'
'Shut up and let me panic in peace!'
'Not gonna happen.'
'What he said.'
'I hate both of you.'
'Aw we love you too.'
'I'm going back to my show now before you two give me cooties.'
'Aw come on, Skia. We're 16. We're too old to believe in that shit.'
Skia didn't respond.
Hannah swallowed thickly, staring straight ahead. Heart racing faster than she thought  was possible when the blonde turned around, his green eyes meeting her brown.
Haul smiled.
Hannah choked. Eyes watering ever so slightly as she forced a smile. Knowing that he would never smile at her again after she asked him out.
The idea made her wanna hurl.
'Please don't. I have laundry duty tonight and puke is so gross.'
Hannah debated doing it just to spite him but voted against it. She didn't need to ruin two friendships in one night.
'God, I can hear your angst from the ship. Can you knock it?!'
'JOHN?! SINCE WHEN THE FUCK CAN YOU HEAR US?!'
'You guys aren't the only ones who can communicate with your minds. Now shut up. I'm trying to nap.'
'We are so talking about this when we get home.'
'No we ain't. '
Haul came jogging over with little Jolene strapped to his chest before Hannah could cut in—looking as if  he was the happiest man in the world and not a high school dropout miles from home working in the circus.
Hair damp with sweat.
Freckles more prominent than usual from his time outside.
He looked incredible and Hannah was sorry that she was about to ruin that.
"Hey guys, what's up? Did something happen back home?"
Hannah opened her mouth and closed it again. Trying to find the strength and the courage to speak. But the words wouldn't form in her brain and wouldn't roll her tongue. Leaving her looking like a gaping fish gasping for water.
She wished she could just disappear in that moment.
Or turn back the clock to before she ever thought of this stupid idea and not mention it to anyone.
But she couldn't.
Because that wasn't in her magical skill set. Because she just had to suck at EVERYTHING.
"Hannah digs you and wants to know if you'd like to go on a picnic with her next friday." Luke stated bluntly, giving her shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
Which was not reassuring at all to her in the moment.
She was gonna kill him.
She was gonna skin him alive and make him walk the plank into shark infested waters.
The asshole.
Haul lit up like a Christmas tree. "What? Seriously?"
That.. was not… what she was expecting.
 She gaped at him.
There was no way he was actually considering—
"Yep. Totally serious. She made me come with as moral support so you better say yes because I'm missing out on so much early morning beauty sl–"
"Then yes. I'd love to go on a date with you Hannah." Haul was practically vibrating with excitement. Barely paying Luke any attention as he stared right at her. No doubt making sure she was actually comfortable with this.
Hannah just stared at him dumbfounded, giving him an even weaker smile as her heart slowly stopped racing until it went back to its normal pace.
She couldn't believe this was happening.
Luke clapped her on the shoulders, no doubt grinning ear to ear like the obnoxious big brother he was.
"Great. Meet her at the front of the ship at 8pm. You bring the dessert and drinks, and she'll bring the food. Wear beachy clothes."
Hannah should probably step in now but she couldn't find the energy to do so. She felt like she wasn't really there anymore. Like her spirit had left her body and was floating higher and higher until it couldn't breathe.
Was this really happening?
🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
Hannah didn't find the strength to speak again until she and Luke were back in her room—him leading her towards her bed.
Her limbs still feeling too heavy to move.
When had they split off from Haul?
She didn't remember doing so.
She didn't remember walking to the ship.
It was fine.
Everything was fine.
Haul had said yes.
Thanks to Luke.
Without her having even said a word…
"Wait, did you just ask Haul out for me?"
Her words were quiet. Her eyelids heavy.
She felt so, so tired.
Luke rolled his eyes.
"Well SOMEONE had to do it. You clearly weren't. "
"I'm gonna fist fight you in the parking lot. "
She threatened weakly, without any heat behind her words.
"Yeah yeah yeah. Just go to bed. You worked yourself up again."
She was asleep before she could even think of a retort.
Her head full of dreams of her upcoming date and Haul.

Discontinued Writing (Graveyard Therapist)
part 1 [2] 3 4 5
original prompt
The day was pretty good. He woke up the kid like the faithful alarm clock he’s resigned himself to being. Then he followed him to school, offering his opinion and comments on every and any thing. He pranked a few of the teachers that seem to dislike the kid the most. Then he complained like he usually does when school finishes. Then he chatted with the kid on their walk to nowhere in particular.
Then another ghost appeared and began to panic. Then a villain appears and the kid, with his damn curiosity, stops to watch. Then he’s helping the kid dodge while running away like he always does when the brat gets into trouble. Then the kid is caught and he’s trying to desperately pull the kid out, shouting for the other ghost to, “Calm the fuck down and help me! You’re already dead! Why the hell are you freaking out! He’ll die if we don’t help him!”
Then they’re both trying to pull the kid out when, honest to every God and Deity there is, fucking All Might shows up.
Kosuke allows himself to calm down slightly with a hero on the scene. He idly notes the black-haired female ghost that is accompanying the number one hero but returns his attention to the kid that’s slowly starting to stop struggling. He panics for a moment, his visage flickering wildly, until he hears All Might shout his catchphrase.
Then All Might punches the sludge villain. He punches the sludge villain, sending him splattering across the empty street. He punches the sludge villain - the villain that has the kid hostage - he just punches it and -
Izuku gets sent flying and Kosuke snaps.
“Oi!” He shouts angrily at the hero even if the man can’t hear him. “What the fuck!” He sees the woman cringe and the brown haired man slowly float away. “You could have hurt the kid, damnit!”
Growling angrily at the back of the blonde hero, Kosuke hurriedly makes his way towards the unconscious form of one kid. He quickly checks him over, calming down at the sight of his chest falling and rising and the feel of his heartbeat against his cold fingertips. He snarls silently when he feels the bump in the back of the kid’s head, covered by his bush of hair.
Kosuke sometimes really hates being a dead medical student. He can’t help anyone, and the one person he can help is unconscious and unable to fib away why the bandages are floating and wrapping themselves around him. So Kosuke can’t grab the first aid kit that he knows the kid has in his backpack and he can’t give treatment to the boy.
He curses again, settling to simply wait for the boy to wake up. Then All Might, having finished scooping up the sludge villain in two empty liter soda bottles, crouches next to Izuku and slaps him on the cheek - repeatedly.
He turns angrily towards the woman. “What the fuck is his problem!?”
She cringes, staring at All Might. “I..,” she starts, only to stop and sigh. “I have no excuse,” she admits, shaking her head.
Kosuke frowns, wondering why she would be the one taking responsibility. He doesn’t dwell on it for long as he hears Izuku groan and begin to stir. He turns away from the woman, hovering close to Izuku. He can hear All Might sigh in relief and mutter but doesn’t pay the man much attention. Honestly, do Heroes even know the most basic of first aid? Do they know what to do and what not to do with an unconscious civilian? Is this why Rescue Heroes are considered a different type of hero?
God, he’s getting a headache from all his questions and he’s a ghost! He isn’t supposed to get headaches! Those went away when he died! As did his exhaustion from the several all-nighters he pulled, studying. Now he can study for as long as he wants without ever getting tired thanks to Izuku purchasing his school books for him. The kid’s good like that.
“Wha..huh?” Izuku mutters, blinking slowly.
Kosuke immediately grabs his shoulder. “There’s a Pro Hero here kid so don’t say anything dumb and don’t look suspicious,” he says, watching as Izuku closes his mouth firmly and nods subtly.
He backs away as All Might leans forward to observe Izuku. He watches for a moment longer, relaxing when All Might officially backs off and helps Izuku stand up. Deeming the kid to be okay enough, he turns to address the two other ghosts.
“Hey,” he addresses the older male. The man looks at him curiously, looking much more calm then when they first meet. “Thanks for the warning. Things could have been a lot worse. I’m Sato Kosuke.”
“Oh, uh, no problem? I’m Hiroto,” the other male ghost introduces himself, smiling now that the situation is being fixed and his killer finally caught.
Kosuke turns to the last ghost, raising a brow in question. The woman has her head tilted, overlooking the entire scene curiously. Her attention is mostly on Izuku though and Kosuke can tell that the kid has noticed and is starting to get uncomfortable as he tries to stay standing.
“So, do you remember your name, or..?” He trials off, not wanting to be entirely rude but also wanting to divert her attention.
She looks at him and smiles, “Nana.”
Kosuke nods, accepting her short introduction. He moves to be floating next to Izuku, resting a hand on the kid’s shoulder and helping him keep upright. He watches as Izuku thanks All Might for his help, holding back a snort. He isn’t successful as Izuku shifts and elbows him.
It isn’t until All Might is preparing to leave with the captured villain, along with Nana and Hiroto, that he has an idea. “Hey kid,” he starts off, and Izuku tilts his head questioningly. “Why don’t you ask him?”
“What?” Izuku mutters. “He already gave me an autograph,” he says, shifting his backpack on to cover his words.
Kosuke shakes his head, “Not that. About the other thing. The, being a hero and quirks.”
Izuku blinks, watching as All Might turns to him to give a last farewell. “Why?” He mutters, smiling and waving at the hero. He’s very glad that he has a lot of practice in keeping his composure otherwise he’d be a speechless, stuttering mess which would just be an embarrassment.
Kosuke shrugs, “Curious what he would say is all. We already know what the whole neighborhood says but what would a Pro think? The number one Pro at that too!”
Izuku hums under his breath for a moment, quickly thinking of the pros and cons. He shakes his head, deciding that asking the Number One Hero isn’t worth it. Wouldn’t want to bother the man either. Besides, he already knows what he wants to do.
“Thanks again All Might sir!” He calls instead of asking, waving the large man away. Kosuke pouts next to him in disappointment as they both watch All Might leap away.
They both stay there for a moment before Izuku sighs, shoulders sagging. “It was such a good day too,” he mutters, beginning to make his way towards the underpass.
“At least you got to meet All Might?” Kosuke offers even though he doesn’t believe he’ll be holding the man in high standing after today’s events.
Izuku rolls his eyes, “I didn’t meet him. I got saved by him, then he quickly ran off.”
“You got an autograph! You could sell that!” Kosuke suggests, floating lazily next to the boy.
“That’s kind of rude Kosuke,” Izuku frowns, turning to look at his ghost companion.
“Not if he’s the reason you passed out in the first place,” Kosuke defends mulishly.
Izuku blinks in surprise. “Wait! Is that why my head hurts so much!?”
“You’re lucky. You just have a bump instead of a concussion, I already checked.” Kosuke nods.
Izuku sighs again, this time much longer and resigned. “I’m never gonna have a good day, am I?” He asks. Kosuke laughs and Izuku pouts.

Do Your Job, No Matter What ¬ Draco M.
Tumblr media
Plot - Following your boss's orders was part of the job but you never realised how far he'd take it.
Genre - Smut ♧ {16+ Only}
Pairing - CEO!Draco Malfoy x Fem!reader
Notes/Warnings - Power play plot with porn, harsh names, Dom/Sub, penetrative, choking, unprotected sex with creampie (dont be stupid like them irl). Astoria is the ex-wife in this as I couldn't bring myself to write about a cheater and I apologise in advance if this is terrible, I haven't written smut in years.
Word Count - 2.3k
The day had bled into night and as the gentle rays of sun disappeared, so did your co-workers. Mutters of goodbyes and heels clacking faded till all that remained was the muffled sound of Mr. Malfoy on his conference call.
You were used to being the last one to leave, often deep into the night. A common requirement for a personal assistant was to be there till the boss leaves but unfortunately, Mr Malfoy wasn't exactly rushing home most nights.
The simple hardwood desk was more familiar to you than your own bed nowadays. Nights got later as business got busier and Mr Malfoy became more involved with potential investors, but you never complained. You were always the best and you were planning on staying that way.
"Y/N, get in here!"
Being so involved in the setup for the next morning, you didn't listen out for the conference call or how it ended but from thunderous and rude tone of your boss, you could imagine.
Shuffling to your feet before straightening out your skirt, you made hastily made your way through the large oak doors that housed the king, as you co-workers often joked. You understood their distaste, a powerful and attractive man was already intimidating but Draco always found a way to rub people up the wrong way, except you. You always had a certain affection towards the man, not that you would ever admit it.
Entering the darkened office, you felt your breath catch in your throat as you faced your boss. His once tamed hair, now wisps of silvery blond streaking across his forehead. Veins prominent on pale arms where he had rolled up his sleeves. He stood behind his desk, with one hand leaning on the dark oak table whilst the other nursed a crystal glass of whiskey. Even in his frustration, he still looked like the most powerful man in the country.
Draco lifted his eyes to yours and you felt yourself squirm under his gaze, you'd be lying to say that the man wasn't gracing the thoughts you had in your more intimate moments. This simple act made you think that this could be more than a fantasy with how his eyes traced over you.
"Well that meeting was a total disaster." The man sighed before manoeuvring to sit on what could almost be described as a leather throne. "I told my father that trying to work with Potter Industries was useless but the stupid git wouldn't listen so I had to deal with them bastards for nothing!"
Whilst you tried to focus on his words, your thoughts were more taken with his hands. Strong, thick fingers graced with three solid silver rings and the way they wrapped around the crystal tumbler was so sinful, you let yourself imagine what they would feel like around your neck.
Snapping yourself out of your sinful thoughts, you notice the silence as if Draco had expected a reply to his rant. Whilst he valued your opinion, you weren't sure what to offer.
"I'm sorry they wasted your time sir. Is there anything I can do?" Whilst it sounded innocent enough, part of you couldn’t help but mean it in a suggestive manner.
Draco debated your offer for a moment. He always knew what you thought of him, how your thighs would clench together during car rides where he was just slightly closer than normal or how you would blush at the simplest praise. You were wrapped around his finger.
He knew you wanted him sexually, he too held this secret but he wondered if you were harbouring more than sinful thoughts towards him. He needed to know, to see if he was just seeing what he wanted to see or if there was something between the two of you. Draco knew that by tonight, he would have his answer.
"Come over here" He beckoned.
Obeying before thought, you carefully manoeuvred so you were standing behind the desk and in front of your boss.
Mr Malfoy patted his right thigh in a non-verbal demand for her to sit on his lap. Once again, you were obeying before thought or reason, you gently placed yourself on his muscular thigh, allowing your skirt to ride up.
Draco rested his hand on your exposed thigh, toying with the edge of your tight skirt. With the other hand he gripped your chin in a gentle but firm manner, turning your face to meet his, only centimetres away.
"You know exactly how you can help me"
"I'm not sure what you mean Mr Malfoy"
"Don't play dumb my dear. I see how you look at me, how you respond to me. Would bet money on the fact that you are getting wetter by the second just from being this close to me." His hand inched up closer and if on instinct, your legs moved apart to allow him. The tips of his fingers graced the edge of your panties before pulling them to the side, allowing his fingers to feel your wetness. "Just as I thought, always knew you were my little slut".
He slowly pushed a digit inside, allowing the warmth to coat his pale finger. The action caused a small whimper to leave your lips involuntarily and as you felt the cold metal of his ring graze your folds, you could barely stop the moan from escaping. Draco kept a slow pace, almost teasingly slow. Your body was begging for more but Draco wanted to hear it, needed to hear it. He could see you getting restless at the gentle pace but he needed more from you so he delicately removed his finger, which was met with an annoyed groan from you. Sliding his digit up your soaking slit, he brought his finger to your sense bud. Rubbing in careful circles, you felt your need for Draco grow even stronger.
"Please, I need more"
"Tell me what you want baby"
"I want your fingers. Want to cum. Please make me cum"
This was what he needed, you falling apart for him. Begging for something as simple as him to finger fuck you, and god the sound of you was better than he imagined. A cocky smirk grace his whiskey coated lips before colliding his lips with yours, a collision of tongues and teeth but it was exactly what you both craved. The messy kiss resembled the messy dynamic you were both about to enter.
Placing his attention back on your weeping hole, he broke away from the kiss. You felt your eyes flutter shut as he entered two of his thick digits into you, this time at a harsh speed. Moans were escaping your body as your orgasm built but Draco was quick to drink them up. The combination of the anticipation and how he was perfectly hitting every spot whilst massaging your clit was getting you there quicker than ever before.
Draco could feel your body getting closer to release, clenching and tensing against his fingers. "Cum for me, show me what a little slut you are."
His words were what pushed you over the edge as you came hard all over your boss's hand. You connected your mouths again in a brief moment of ecstasy. Breaking away from the kiss, you rested your head on his shoulder attempting to catch your breath.
You could feel his harden length through his trousers and the feeling alone was enough to make you need more. Carefully grazing your hand over the evident bulge, you felt the man tense under you.
Before you could do or say anything more, the phone rang.
The sharp sounds were enough to remind both of you that you were still in the office and technically still on the clock. Breaking your stare from the phone, you turned to Draco who simply stated "Better answer it sweetie, it is your job after all".
Rolls of frustration filled your body as you wished he would have simply thrown the phone out the window and taken you on the desk but no, here you were. Standing up from his lap, you picked up the phone.
"Hello, Mr Malfoy's Office. Y/N Speaking."
"Oh, Y/N, hello. I was hoping you would answer" You knew that buttery voice, Astoria Greengrass. Ex-wife of the man who just made you cum, of the man you were hoping to fuck.
"Hi Ms. Greengrass, how are you?" As you said her name, you spotted Draco rise from his chair.
Astoria started on a small rant about how hard dating is as a single mum but you could barely focus on her. The blond haired man had made his way behind your figure, and was slowly undressing you. Button after button until your bra-covered chest was exposed, a quick zip of your skirt left you standing in only your panties and finally, Draco decided to rid you of your panties as well with a quick rip of the fabric.
Whilst Astoria talked your ear off, Draco leaned down towards the other and whispered "Be a good girl and do your job, okay".
You shakily nodded whilst attempting to focus on the words the woman was speaking but you were rendered incapable when you felt his enlarged tip tease your folds. You couldn't help but intake a sharp breath.
"Y/N, are you okay?" Astoria paused, she was always a thoughtful woman who made sure Y/N was leaving enough time for herself between work but now here Y/N was, fucking Astoria's ex-husband whilst on the phone to the woman herself.
"Yep, I'm sorry. I jus-" Her sentence interrupted by Draco fully entering her tight pussy. His cock stretching her out in ways she had never experienced, she couldn't help but whimper in an attempt to hold back a moan. "I stubbed my toe really hard. It's all okay truly."
"Always hurts more than it should." You attempted a chuckle at the woman's remark but it became a strangled moan as Draco picked up the pace. Astoria continued "Anyways, sorry for ranting but I was calling to remind Draco about Scorpius' play on Tuesday, can you please make sure his schedule is clear".
"Yes, of course I will." You manage to respond, trying to focus on being professional rather than focusing on your boss pounding you into oblivion.
"Great, I won't keep you any longer. Thank you dear, have a good night."
You replied a quick 'You too' before slamming the phone down. A plethora of pent up moans rushed from your throat as you felt Draco's full size threaten to split you open, you had never felt this full and god, you loved it.
His slender hand wrapped around your neck, pulling you closer to his chest and gaining more force. "What a good little whore you are! Taking my cock like you were built for me". His words made you clench around him which caused an guttural moan to escape the dominant man.
"Please sir, I need more. I need to cum, please." You were close to seeing stars but you needed more, you craved more.
Draco had never felt more powerful than he did at that moment. Slipping out of you before lifting your body as if you were a ragdoll for his amusement, you were now seated against his desk and face to face with him as he re-entered your soaking pussy dangerously slow. The new angles were enough to make your eyes roll to the back of your head, moaning strings of swears as you approached your peak.
The pale businessman pounded you with such force you thought his desk might break under the pressure, holding your hips so tightly that you were sure to have bruises the following morning. Moans of your name graced the man's lips as he approached his orgasm, as his pace faltered and became uneven.
Grabbing your throat with force, Draco brought his face down to yours. "Cum for me."
His words were all you needed as you felt your climax hit you like a freight train. Moaning his name so loudly that you suspected anyone left in the building would have heard. Your vision darkened as the pleasure rolled over you in waves, feeling the release of all the late nights with your hands between your legs whilst fantasies of Draco fuelled you. The reality was better than the fantasy.
Your climax had left you clenching Draco, milking him dry as he released inside of your warm welcoming pussy. All frustration from work was gone, all the desire he felt for you was enhanced, just everything was right in this moment. He felt his cock soften and carefully slipped himself out, watching as his seed slowly trailed down your plump pussy.
Catching your breath, you slipped off the desk before finding yourself in Draco's arms once again. "That was incredible but I am still mad you fucked me whilst I spoke to your ex-wife"
"Very bold aren't I, kitten?. You have to do your job, no matter what" He chuckled. "What did she want anyways?"
"Wanted me to remind you about Scorpius' play on Tuesday." Answering in a nonchalant tone, which is never how you spoke to him but you were now feeling the repercussions of what just happened and were feeling insecurity, causing you to use attempted nonchalance to hide it. "So I guess I will see you tomorrow?"
"Yes, technically. I will see you tomorrow as well but for now, we are heading to back to my house. Have some dinner and see what happens from there." His gaze was often fierce and stubborn but now it was gentle and almost hopeful, showing that he was also scared of what this meant for your relationship, but hoped that you wouldn't reject his offer of something more romantic.
Even with already flushed cheeks, his words caused light blush to appear "That sounds like a perfect plan to me, Draco."
Draco's fears were put to rest as soon as he heard his name roll of your tongue. You may be wrapped around his finger but he was wholly wrapped around yours. Just took a bold move to release the truth.

Word count: 1.9k
Author’s note: Hey guys! That’s my first story on this blog. I hope you’ll like it. I’m not native so there may be a few mistakes. I’m trying a new genre of fiction. It’s my first Tom Holland fiction. It’ll be a series of 2-3 chapters. If you want to be part of the master list for Tom please like this post and message me.
Synopsis: Quarantine has been tough. I’ve lost my boyfriend, and I’m feeling lonely. Clubs and restaurants are open again, but I feel like it’ll never be like it used to. My friends have been pushing me to install Tinder and go on dates. Well, tonight, I’m going on a date. I don’t really want to but I’m going to try and have fun for once. Just a few drinks and I’ll go home. What else could happen?
PS. You can read the story on Wattpad.
Tumblr media
What am I doing here? I think to myself.
I matched with this guy on this famous dating app . . . And now I'm supposed to meet him here, at this bar. But I don't want to. I'm just hoping he won't show up so I can escape from this shit-place.
I've been seated at the table for a good 5 minutes. The waitress cleans up the table next to mine and asks if I'm ready to order.
No, I want to leave.
I quickly glance at the drinks menu.
"Ehm . . . A pour over Irish coffee, please."
She nods and leaves. I don't even know what I just ordered. I hope it tastes good. Hopefully it'll make me drunk enough not to remember this awful date.
It hasn't even started yet.
I'm sweating.
"Hey there" says a husky voice right behind me.
I turn around and see my date. His name is Jordan. He's good-looking and I bet he's intelligent, but I don't have this feeling with him. I don't know why I accepted to go on a date in the first place. It's awkward.
"Hey!" I grin.
"Have you ordered something already?" he asks, touching his short, clean beard. "I'm thirsty!"
He looks nice.
*
The waitress hands me my third drink. They help the clock tick a little faster.
He's been talking about his job, his passions. He loves football and practises daily. He has 2 sisters and lives in Camberwell.
Cute.
For a moment, I feel sad for him. He drove all the way to this East London bar, put effort trying to look nice and being cool . . . and yet, he doesn't know it but he has no chance to get lucky tonight. Not with me.
I shouldn't be sorry.
But I am.
I glance around looking for something that might be a little more entertaining than him. I realise I've avoided eye contact since he arrived. I finally glimpse at him. He has beautiful hazel eyes.
Still not enough.
I quickly check my phone. It's getting late. I don't know how to end this.
"Look," I slightly bend over the table. "I'm so sorry but I don't feel like it tonight"
"I noticed." He smirked. "Kinda awkward, innit?"
I chuckle. I am so embarrassed.
"It's okay, though." He added. "I'm just trying to meet new people. I broke up with my ex-girlfriend a few weeks ago. My mates told me I should try these apps."
Okay, now I feel worse than ever. He's been so nice with me and that's how I treat him. I grab my drink and gulp it down.
I shouldn't have done this.
"Let's go dance. I owe you one." I say as I grab his hand and walk towards the dancing area. It becomes difficult to keep my head straight.
I'm drunk, I must admit.
I'm going to regret it, my sober-self shouts in my head.
I don't care is what I reply.
The dancing area is not crowded, but there are already a few people. Most of them are girls.
Girls . . . I wish my friends were not so busy all the time. I would've come to this bar with them instead of wasting my time with strangers.
I start dancing. I stare at him. He looks amused.
A group of guys join the dancefloor and all the girls on my right start screaming. It's so high pitched I cringe.
"What the fuck guys?" I shout, trying to focus on the music.
"Woah, that's Spider-Man!" says my date. He grabs my chin and makes me look in his direction.
No way, I think. It's actually him.
I know he lives in the area, but I've never met him before. It's always weird to see movie stars in real life. They look so much more attractive.
He is so much more attractive.
I try not to be a drunk fangirl and shyly wave to him. He doesn't notice.
"You wanna go and take a picture with him?" my date asks.
"Oh, no, no!" I answer. I'm blushing. "I don't even know what I'd tell him."
He laughs.
The worst thing that could happen is to annoy him during a night out. He needs privacy and I must respect it.
But it's so difficult.
I can't stop staring at him. I don't even control it. Being drunk doesn't help.
"D'you want a beer?" I ask my date whose name I completely forgot.
He nods.
I weave my way through the crowd. I can't believe there are so many people on the dancefloor. The area is so busy since the Spider-Man actor walked in.
Even the bar area is crowded.
I let my body rest against a barstool but quickly lose balance and almost fall on the dirty floor. The flickering lights are making me feel dizzy. I grip the counter and get up. I peer around to make sure nobody saw me.
He did.
I dust off my dress trying to save the dignity I have left.
"Want something?" someone asks behind me. I turn around, it's the barman.
"Two pints of Guinness, please."
I glance back at the same spot, but he's gone. It must've been a dream. I'm so drunk I can't trust everything I think I see.
I'm grabbing both my drinks and look around trying to find my date, but there are too many people. I take a sip of my beer and hold the other one above my head.
Someone hits my arm.
Oh no.
"Oh my God I'm so sorry!" yells the drunk blond girl.
I look at my dress. It's soaking wet. I politely smile at her. "It's okay," I mouth.
What a mess. I glance at the lavatory door. I need to go and save my dress.
"You haven't been lucky here."
I turn around to find out who's talking to me.
It's him. Tom Holland. Talking to me.
"What?" is all I manage to say.
"Do you need a hand?" he politely asks.
I blush so much it's noticeable in the dark.
I'm choking. I'm panicking.
I give him my two beers and walk towards the lavatory. I'm surely starstruck. And drunk. This isn't a good mix.
Once in the room, I grab a handful of tissues and try to soak up my dress. I groan. Did I expect to make that beer mark disappear? Yes. Did it work? Of course not.
I watch my face in the mirror.
I look like shit, I think.
A door slams shut. Two young girls just walked in.
"OH, MY G—THAT'S TOM HOLLAND!" shouts one. They are both panting.
I roll my eyes.
Oh . . . I've given him my beers. What about my date?
"Shit!" I hiss.
I violently open the door and frown my eyebrows as the lights blind me.
He's just here gazing at me. Two beers in his hands. One of them is half empty, the rest being displayed on my dress.
"I'm so sorry!" I say embarrassed as ever.
He smirks. "No worries." He hands me the full glass of beer.
I give him a questioning look as I grab it. What about the other one? Oh, right—He's drinking it.
"What's your na—"
I stop him.
"I know who you are." I peer down. "I'm sorry I didn't wanna disturb you" I say as I'm walking away.
This time I'm smart enough to avoid the crowd on my way out.
"That's rude to leave without saying goodbye!" Tom shouts from a distance.
I turn around and stare at him. He's got a soft smile; he doesn't look drunk at all. I wave him goodbye.
Now, he's approaching me.
"I meant to your boyfriend" he nods in the direction of my date who was dancing with a group of other people.
"He's not my—" is all I can say before he chuckles.
"I figured."
"How?" I clench my jaw. I'm hypnotised by his hand running through his hair. And his smile. And his lips.
"I can barely hear you," he points at a booth in the corner of the room "maybe we could sit there" he suggests.
My mouth softens into a smile.
It's difficult to walk with Tom Holland. Every couple of seconds he's stopped by fans requesting a picture. And he accepts every time.
I'd never be so patient.
"What's that?" he asks.
"It must be so annoying sometimes." I tell him as I sit on the booth.
"When they're nice and ask me, it's cool." He chooses to sit next to me. I can feel his arm touching mine. My heart is racing. He uses his other arm to hold his chin; he looks at me with so much intensity. Sometimes peering down my lips.
His face is so close, but he keeps talking. I can feel his breath on my skin. I'm going to burst into flames. "But when they're taking pictures without asking first, that's delicate."
I nod. I can't really listen to what he's talking about. I'm trying not to lose control.
"So, what's your name?"
He smiles when I tell him. "Why did you leave your date alone?" he asks.
I'm so nervous I stutter. I can't find my words. "I . . . I wasn't in the mood. He knows it. I shouldn't have come here."
"I'm happy you came." He says looking me in the eyes.
I raise my eyebrows. "Are you flirting with me?"
He barks out a laugh and breaks the eye contact. He rests his head on the wall behind us.
He isn't as confident as I thought he'd be. I don't know what's up with him, but I enjoy it.
I suddenly remember he's a movie star. He's always being watched. I glance at the crowd and see flashing lights. They're taking pictures of us.
I'm getting dizzier.
I don't want to see my face on a dumb article talking about Tom Holland's mysterious partner. I don't even know him.
"This is stupid" I mumble.
Tom is intrigued. He hasn't got a clue what I'm talking about. He hasn't even noticed the fans stalking him.
"I'm sorry, I gotta go" I abruptly say as I stand up. "Have a good night."
I grab my phone and leave the venue. I'm upset because I really wish I could've met him in a different context. I open my Uber app: there's no driver available.
Shit.
How's that even possible on a Friday night? In London?
I refresh the app, but it doesn't work. I guess I'll have to walk home.
A part of me wants to go back in this bar and spend time with Tom. He's sweet and I'm sure we would've had so much fun together. I glance through the window trying to see his face one last time, but I can't find him.
"What are you looking for?"
I cringe.
"Oh, sorry I didn't mean to startle you."
It's him. It's Tom.
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
"Going home too. The fun of the party is leaving . . ." he sighs. I smile back at him. I'm embarrassed.
I stand in front of him, none of us say a word. It's awkward. I'm getting anxious and walk away. I'm so overwhelmed.
He grabs my shoulder. "Wait, are you walking home?"
"Yeah, it's okay don't worry." I smile.
"I can drive you home."
"Sorry, but you've been drinking. I won't let you drive me." I curtly say.
He grins. He looks at one of his mates and nods.
"No way I'm letting you walk home alone," he sighs "besides, you're drunk."
"Come with me then" I instantly reply without thinking.
He nods.
What?
He's coming with me. My heart is racing. I won't survive a 30-minute drunk walk with him.
Not with his beautiful glossy eyes staring at me.
Not with my burning desire to kiss him.

A History Lesson
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
Word Count: 4741
Warnings: Vulgar language, I think that’s it (it’s mainly fluff like Bucky’s)
Summary: You never were fond of history...but if history gives you a man like that? Maybe you could deal with it.
A/N: Here it is! A little later than I had hoped, but my brother is visiting, it was his birthday this week, work’s been a bit hectic, and I ended up writing a little something for Bucky’s birthday on Wednesday, which I didn’t mean to. I got it done, though! First Date with our dear Cap’n Spangles! I have all the First Date ideas for the other Avengers lined up, but I think I’m gonna put this on hiatus for now. I’m gonna try focusing on my College!AU at the moment. If you guys want, I’ll share my First Date plans, though. If I find time, I’ll write the next one. If you haven’t noticed, I have a fondness for collages, so I might do what I’m doing for my College!AU Project and make collages for the other First Dates before writing them. Anyways, enough with my ramblings. Enjoy the date!
Tumblr media
You keep checking the clock, waiting for this lecture to be done. You typically enjoy school, but history isn’t a strong suit for you. You try in history, you really do, but all the information - the dates, people, places - it’s too much. You constantly mix things up, no matter how hard you study. And you don’t really get the hype. Who cares what these dead guys did? It happened, it’s done, and it’s time to move on.
“That’s all for today! Don’t forget your papers are due on Monday! You’re dismissed!”
You let out a groan at the mention of the cursed research paper. You had stayed up for hours the previous nights working on it, but so far you have squat. The essay is on the Second World War (more specifically the differences of life between Americans and Europeans at the time), and you know you should’ve done it when it was given a week ago, but your shitty memory makes it difficult to write a paper without five million textbooks in front of you and you don’t have time to go to the library every night between work, friends, and other projects. So, you haven’t done it yet.
Exhausted, mentally and physically, you collect your things and head out of the lecture hall. You pull out your phone to text your friends, telling them you have to work on a paper tonight and you can’t meet up for dinner like you all usually do on Fridays. Deciding to take a breather before working, you start out to the bench overlooking the Potomac River, which you always sat at to relax and just…be. The scenic walk through DC and the sight of the steady river flowing besides the busy city always calms you.
You sit there for a few moments, letting the slight breeze chill the skin that’s warmed by the sun, listening to it ruffle the trees. The blush pink blossoms that appear when Spring sings her song and chases away Winter flutter to the newly grown, bright green grass below. You enjoy all the seasons, unable to help but love the unique beauty each brings, and Spring is no exception, despite the allergies and tests she brings.
And speaking of tests…
A soft sigh passes your lips as you get out your laptop. You might as well start writing, or at least researching, that paper. You never were good at relaxing when there’s work to be done.
You’re so engrossed in getting the stupid essay done and over with that you don’t notice the jogger who pauses in his run by the very bench you are slaving away on. “Savin’ this seat for anyone?”
“Huh? Oh, uh, no. Go ahead.” You answer distractedly, not even looking up from your screen as the owner of the deep voice sits besides you.
A few more minutes pass in comfortable silence, before you ruin it with a grumble and delete half the paragraph you just wrote. “That doesn’t make sense.” You change tabs to look over the information on the page you have pulled up again, only to furrow your eyebrows. You’re pretty sure the information is wrong. You may have a shitty memory, but you’re sure that the information given on this page is in contrast to the information given in the book you were reading a couple days ago.
“What’re you workin’ so hard on there, honey?”
You let out a huff, throwing your hands up in the air in defeat. “Some dumb research paper for school! It’s on World War Two, and I can’t remember what’s right and what’s wrong and it’s a stupid topic anyways that my stupid teacher assigned! Who fucking cares about a hundred years ago? And how the hell am I supposed to know this? I wasn’t alive! You know what I…”
The words die on your tongue as you finally glance over at the stranger keeping you company.
Blonde hair that seems gold with the way the sun is hitting the strands, which are damp and in slight disarray due to his exercise. Bright blue eyes reflecting the sky above, hidden beneath long lashes that you’re immediately envious of. Pretty pink lips, matching the cherry blossoms on the trees surrounding you, pulling up into an amused sort of smile. The makings of a beard lining his jaw and littering his cheeks.
Steve Rogers. Captain America. You just ranted about how stupid history is to Captain fucking America. You just ranted about how you have to write a dumb essay on World War Two to Captain fucking America.
Ignoring the way your body heats up, starting in your toes and climbing up your legs, chest, and neck to reach the tips of your ears, a nervous little chuckle is all you can give. You clear your throat, trying to think of how to apologize. “I guess you wouldn’t know what I mean, huh?”
What in the ever loving fuck was that? That was not an apology!
You clear your throat and try again. “I-I mean…sorry. It’s not - I didn’t mean-”
“No, no. It’s fine, sweetheart.” The grin he shoots you makes you glad you aren’t standing up, knowing full well your knees would’ve buckled if you were. You open your mouth to apologize again, but he shakes his head before you can speak. “Really. It’s okay. I get it. I used to be a student too. And you’re right; it was a long time ago and there’s a lot of things that happened. Even I have a hard time keeping track of everything that went down.”
You merely blink at him, nodding slowly. Say something. For the love of God, please just say something. Anything! “Yeah. I can barely remember what I had for breakfast this morning.” Really? You’re sitting besides the one and only Captain America and that’s what you decide to say?
You feel yourself slump your shoulders slightly, trying to shrink down into absolute nothingness. But even that wouldn’t work because he’s got that friend of his that could shrink and he’d find you. It seems that you were destined to be embarrassed in front of one of the most beautiful human beings on the planet. Screw the universe.
Instead of teasing you or embarrassing you further, he chuckles and nods in agreement, his eyes lighting up. “You’re not the only one. My pal Clint has got the absolute worst memory. We tease him all the time for it. How he became an agent with the memory of a goldfish, I’ll never know.” You laugh at that, your muscles relaxing and your anxiety easing up.
“Yeah, well, I’ve gotta get through college before I’m in the clear.”
“Don’t worry about it, honey. I’m sure you’ll be fine. Uh…so, a World War Two paper, huh? Need some help? I’m kind of an expert on the topic.”
Breath hitching as he scoots closer, you swallow thickly and shrug. “I don’t want to bother you. You look like you’re in the middle of a run.” You gesture to the tight ass t-shirt hugging his torso that you’re sure is sizes too small for him and the joggers hanging off his hips.
Following your gesture, he looks down, before shaking his head. “Nah. I’ve already ran a few more miles than I was going to today.”
“Are-are you sure?”
There’s that grin again. You’re not sure you’ll be able to survive him tutoring you if he keeps  giving you that adorable toothy smile. “Honest. I’ve got the rest of the day. We can go to the library if you want. Or we can stay here. Whatever works best for you. I don’t mind either way.”
You blink again, like an idiot, as you process his words. Whatever works best for you. What a gentleman. “Uhh…I was about to head to the library anyways, but I really don’t want to bother you-”
“Trust me, honey. It’d be my pleasure.”
“If you insist.”
“I do.”
You let out a soft laugh and nod at his insistence, starting to pack up your things. “Okay. I’m Y/N, by the way.” You stand up as he does and offer your hand.
“Steve. But I guess you figured that out.” Taking your hand, you expect him to shake it, but he squeezes it softly and brings it to his lips instead.
Clearing your throat, you tease him a bit to hide your bashfulness at his actions. “You’re a real gentleman, aren’t you?”
He shrugs with a slight smirk, gently dropping your hand and letting it go after another squeeze. “My momma raised nothing less.”
“I’m sure she’d be proud.”
His playful eyes go slightly more somber at that, his smirk morphing into a grateful smile. “Thank you.”
Giving no reply, you smile softly and nod your head to the path. He nods back before quickly falling into step besides you, asking you more about your paper as you walk to the library.
* * * * * * * *
Giggling behind your hand to stay quiet, or at least attempt to since you both had already been berated by the librarians for being too loud, your attention is once again diverted to Steve and his stories.
It started out fine; he helped you find reliable books and told you which things were true. But not even half an hour passed before Steve told you a story about the Howling Commandos after something in a book reminded him of it. Your concentration since then has been split between your paper and Steve’s retelling of his past.
“Sorry. I keep distracting you. What’s next?”
You snicker again and shake your head. “No, no. It’s okay. I’m almost done anyways. I’ve actually written down a few things you said, if you don’t mind me using them. My professor can’t exactly argue with Captain America, now can he?”
His lips pull up and his shoulders shake in silent laughter. “I guess not. Of course I don’t mind. You can quote me anytime. See?” He nudges you with his shoulder playfully. “History isn’t so bad.”
“Not when you’re telling it.” You respond earnestly, grinning up at him.
“Eh, Bucky’s always been a better storyteller than me.” He gives a little shrug and rubs the back of his neck.
You shake your head at his modesty. “Well I think you do just fine. You’re the first person to get me interested in history. Hey, can you read this over for me? I just need to finalize this paragraph and do the conclusion.”
When you receive silence as an answer, you look over at the blonde with an eyebrow raised. The ocean eyes scanning over you make you a bit self conscious, so you shift slightly in your seat, making him come back from whatever thoughts overtook his mind. “Sorry. Of course I can, honey. That’s what I’m here for. Let me see.”
He gives you a few pointers on what to add and what to get rid of, before you finally finish, saving your work and closing your laptop with a huff.
“What a mind workout. I’m sure my brain’s got abs now.”
Heads swivel towards you two as Steve guffaws, a lady a few tables down shushing him. He apologizes, still snickering. “Abs, huh?”
“I mean, not as good as yours but…” You freeze, inwardly facepalming. And you were doing so well.
He gives you a cheeky grin. “I’ve got good abs?”
“Oh don’t give me that!” You hiss out quietly. “You know you have good abs. I’m just stating facts is all.”
Another soft chuckle leaves those pretty lips and he twists in his seat to crack his back before standing to collect the books you both got out. “When’s the paper due again?”
You stand to help him, but you get a case of the butterfingers just as you go to pick the books up, making the pile tumble to the floor. “Ah shit.” Steve smiles gently at you as you huff and give him an exasperated look. “My bad.”
He snickers, bending down to help you despite having his own books to carry, like the gentleman he is. “So? Due date?”
“Monday.” You answer with a sigh, straightening up. You carefully set the books on the table to pile them better. “We should get the grade back by Friday.”
He hums, taking a few more books in those strong arms of his. “Ah, well, you’ll get a good grade. I believe in you.”
You smirk at him as you shift your bag so you could carry books under your arms. “I’m sure I will with your help, Captain.” He scoffs and rolls his eyes at your teasing manner. “Thank you, by the way.”
“Of course. I had a good time.” He sends that stunning smile your way and this time you are standing. Luckily you have a table to lean on casually instead of falling on your face. “Plus, now you’ve got a free weekend.”
“Ugh. I wish.” You shake your head. “This is my final semester before I graduate. There’s loads to do. But this makes it easier.” Heading through the aisles of the library, you catch sight of the time on a clock on the wall and your eyes widen. You’d been there for a little over three hours! “Damn! I’m sorry I took up your Friday, though. I’m sure there’s things you want to do before you have to go back to New York, huh?”
Shrugging his broad shoulders, he runs a hand through his golden locks and drops the books he had in his arms on the desk for returns. “Not really. I’m here for the next couple weeks, actually. Meetings and stuff. Plus, it doesn’t even take me an hour to get here, so I can really come whenever I want.”
“That’s nice.” You follow his lead and set your books down, readjusting your bag on your shoulder. “I wish I could go to New York whenever I want. I’m way too poor for that.”
He chuckles again. You’ll never get tired of the sound of his laughter. “I’m sure you’ll get there one day.”
You shrug half heartedly, not really believing him. You’re barely making it in DC. There’s no way you could make it in the Big Apple. “Sure. Someday. I’m serious, though. I’m sorry you wasted  your time with some stressed out college student instead of enjoying time with your friends.”
“I’m serious too, honey. It’s no problem; I enjoyed it. And it’s not a waste of my time. Not as long as you get a good grade.”
You laugh as the two of you head out of the building, stopping on the steps and facing each other. “How will you know if I get a good grade?”
He purses his lips in thought. “Meet me at the bench next Friday.” He finally said, his eyes sparkling. “Then we’ll see. Until then, Y/N.”
You grin, taking the large hand he offers you, firmly shaking it before he can kiss your knuckles, making him snicker. “Until then, Steve.”
* * * * * * * *
Feet pounding against the concrete, you practically jump when you spot the man already sitting at the bench. “Steve!” You shout happily, waving your paper in the air. The blonde shoots up, a brow raised in curiosity. “I got a 97!”
You come to a halt in front of him, but it’s too quick, so your clumsy feet trip over each other. Before you can fall, he catches you with ease, smiling down at you in amusement. Small pants leave your lips as sweat trickles down your spine. Where’s that breeze when you need it?
“Uhm…oops?” What the hell was that?! That was embarrassing, that’s what it was!
He chuckles, straightening you up. “You were saying?”
With pride lifting up the corners of your mouth, you shove the paper at his chest, once again grateful that he ignored your blunderings. “97%!”
“I told you you’d be fine. And I knew it wasn’t a waste of my time.” Steve looks up from the paper to give you a toothy grin.
“Thank you again.” You take the paper he hands back to you and shove it in your bag. “I probably would’ve failed the class without this grade. Is there really nothing I can do to pay you back for your time?”
He taps his chin in faux-thought, before tilting his head innocently. “You can loan me some of your time on Sunday.”
You purse your lips, confusion written over your features. “My time? On Sunday? Oh!” You light up, figuring he just needs help with something. “Yeah, duh. Okay. What do you need help with? I can promise I’ll try my hardest, but I might not-”
“No, no. Honey, that’s not-” he laughs, shaking his head and grabbing your hand to make you stop rambling. “I’m askin’ you out.”
“Out?” You pause, registering what that meant. “Like…on a date?” Is he serious? There’s no way he wants to go on a date with you. You pretty much called his life story boring, to his face, and then made him spend three hours on a Friday evening at the library working on a college paper with you.
He snickers with a nod. “Yes, on a date. So whaddya say, sweetheart?”
“Yes!” You blurt out without thinking, before you shy back, feeling yourself heat up as you tend to do around this God of a man. “Y-yeah. Yeah, I’d love to. Sunday. I can do that.”
He beams adorably, like a child being allowed to buy his favorite candy bar. Or a puppy with his favorite toy. Yeah…he reminds you of a puppy. Which only makes him that much cuter.
“Awesome! Meet me here at noon. Does that work?”
You nod vigorously. “That works perfectly.”
“Perfect.” He repeats, before taking your hand and bringing your knuckles to his lips once more.
* * * * * * * *
You’re sitting on the bench, tapping your toes nervously and checking your phone every minute. He said noon and it’s only eleven thirty. It’s a bit inconvenient, to say the least, when the place you go to relax is the place you’re meeting the person making you anxious. You could barely sleep the previous night, too many doubts lingering in your head. You seem to always be making a fool of yourself in front of him, but he was the one who asked you out, so that had to count for something.
You try not to think too hard about it, instead thinking back to last Friday in the library and how his features lifted when he told stories of his childhood and the Howling Commandos and the grin he got when he told you about the things they used to do that would get them in trouble.
“But I’m Captain America, and who’s gonna say no to this face?”
A little giggle leaves your lips as you remember his words, before you’re startled back to reality as a familiar smooth voice sounds besides you.
“Whatcha giggling at, honey?”
You whip over to see Steve grinning in amusement, leaning on the back of the bench. Your eyes drag down his figure. Another too tight t-shirt showing every ridge and curve on his torso, a jacket over his broad shoulders along with a casual pair of jeans. You had seen a meme about Steve having the proportions of a Dorito and, looking at him now, you can see how true it was. It almost makes you laugh again, but you remember what exactly is happening, and you suddenly can’t find anything funny.
“Sweetheart? You alright?”
“Huh? Oh. Yes. Yeah. I’m fine. I was just…thinking.”
He raised an eyebrow, smirking and leaning his forearms against the back of the bench next to where you’re sat. “And those adorable little giggles?”
There’s that familiar flush that you’ve learned to ignore, praying to God he didn’t notice your heart skipping a beat. “Uh, I just remembered something. That’s all.”
He gives a little hum, before hopping over the back and landing besides you. “Seems like we both had the same idea. Gettin’ here early.”
“If you must know, I was just…” You shrug. “To be honest, I’m a little anxious.”
“I’m not that scary, am I?” He teases, nudging you gently.
You roll your eyes and give him a look. “I don’t think there’s a bone in your body capable of being scary. I’m just…I’m nervous I’m gonna embarrass myself…again.”
Steve shakes his head, looking at you earnestly. “You’re not gonna embarrass yourself.”
Picking at the hem of your shirt, you scoff, shaking your head. “I already have. The amount of times I’ve tripped or said something stupid or rambled, which I’m doing right now, or-”
“Honey, honey. Slow down.” The blonde chuckles. “It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I find all of those things endearing. Now, the amount of times I’ve seen my teammates slip and fall on their faces while chasing an enemy? That’s embarrassing. Just the other day, Buck tripped on the roof of a car. Sam has it recorded.”
You let out a laugh at that and nod. “Okay, okay. Sorry. I didn’t mean to get all insecure on you-”
“It’s fine, Y/N.” Steve insists. “Now,” he stands and offers his hand. “Let’s go get some lunch, yeah?”
You look at his hand before looking up at him and taking it without hesitation. “Okay.”
* * * * * * * *
After rounds of questions during lunch, Steve took you around the Smithsonian to all the different museums. Just like history, you had never been overly fond of museums. You typically walked around for a little bit, never really reading the information, only enjoying the pictures.
It’s different with Steve. Just like how it was different writing the research paper with him. He makes everything interesting, telling you his own facts and stories. Especially once you get to his exhibit in the Air and Space Museum.
Once you arrive, he puts on a hat and ducks his head, trying not to bring attention to you both while on a date. You tease him a bit, swinging your linked hands as you walk in with a cheeky grin. He nudges you with his elbow, his own smile painted on his lips.
You can’t help but listen and hold onto his every word, as if you’d die if you forget a single sentence. The light in his eyes as he talks about his past, showing you the pictures and plaques excitedly. Like a child during show and tell, he’s practically skipping from exhibit to exhibit, dragging you along behind him.
Giggling at his elation, you eagerly, and with no resistance, let him take you through his story. “They keep updating it.” He explains as you leave the area with World War Two and the Howling Commandos, entering through a corridor with modern pictures of him and the Avengers. “Every couple years or so they call me and tell me they’re adding another thing.”
“Doesn’t that get annoying?” You wonder, reading a wall about the Battle of Manhattan with interest. “Your whole life being put on display for everyone to see?”
Steve shrugs. “I dunno. I’ve never really minded. They don’t put in personal things, so it’s not too bad. You could learn more from the internet about me.”
You nod, knowing how true that really was. “You’ve got a point. Still. It must be a bit weird being a national icon.”
“I’ll admit, people stopping me on the street is getting a little old. I used to wish to be someone who changed the world. Now I have and sometimes I wish I could be normal. But I wouldn’t change what I’ve done. Who I am. Not if people can learn from it. Not if I can keep people safe.”
Turning away from the wall to glance at Steve, who has his hands in his pockets studying the wall, you smile and tilt your head. “You’re a good man, Steve Rogers.”
He turns to you, his lips pulling up. “That’s all I hope for.” His voice is quiet, earnest, before it becomes lighter as he gestures back to the wall. “You know the first thing we did after winning was go out for shawarma? It was Tony’s idea.”
“No way.” You laugh. “All six of you?”
“Yeah! We go there for every Battle of Manhattan Anniversary, now. I’ll take you some time. It’s a nice place.”
“Is that a promise?”
He smirks at your teasing tone. “Absolutely.”
* * * * * * * *
After your museum hopping, he takes you to Arlington Cemetery to show you a few friends and fellow soldiers he met all those years ago. It’s such a personal intimate thing that he shares, and you think you shouldn’t be there to witness it, but he’s quick to reassure you that’s not the case. That he wouldn’t have anyone else by his side, listening to his stories.
By the time you get back to the city, it’s getting dark, so you two head out for dinner before Steve takes you up the Washington Monument to look at the city lights. He makes sure you have the top all to yourselves; there’s perks of being an Avenger - especially one of the leaders.
“Alright, alright.” Leaning on the rail, you turn to him with a smile. “So maybe history isn’t as bad as I originally thought.”
“Yeah? I convinced you, did I?”
You roll your eyes at his smirk, shoving his shoulder lightly. “Maybe a bit. But only when you’re telling it. You think there’s any way you could come to history with me?” You joke with a laugh, feeling yourself flush at the chuckle and grin he gives you.
“I wish I could, honey.” He spoke softly, running a thumb over your knuckles. “Unfortunately, I’ve got work to do. I’m heading back to New York tomorrow. I’ll be back on Friday, though. If you would want to-”
You beam and nod energetically. “I’d love to go out again, Stevie.”
Giving your hand a squeeze, he beams back. “Fantastic.” He looks back out to the window and gives a little sigh. “It’s gettin’ late and you’ve got class tomorrow.”
“Yeah. I should probably get going. Do you, I mean, would you mind walking me home?” You blink up at him through your lashes hopefully.
“Of course!” His eyes - which you found throughout the day weren’t entirely blue, but had some green hues to them - lit up as you two start towards the elevator. He tucks you under his strong arm, pulling you close. “You wanna get ice cream or something on the way?”
“You read my mind, Captain.”
* * * * * * * *
By the time you reach your door, you’ve both finished your ice cream and he’s telling yet another story while you laugh, once again swinging your linked hands.
When it comes time to say goodbye, you can’t help but wish your hand could stay in his for a while longer. Knowing that you’d be saying farewell, you hold on a bit tighter. “Pick me up on Friday?”
He nods, squeezing your hand before letting it go and brushing his fingertips along your cheek. “I’ll call you later too, alright, sweetheart?”
“Okay.” You agree eagerly. “You gonna kiss me goodnight now, soldier?”
“Yes, ma’am.” He chuckles softly, before gently grabbing your chin. Using his other hand, he pulls you closer by the waist, pressing his lips to yours. It’s soft and sweet and perfect, just like him, but it ends too quickly for your liking. He pulls back, nudging his nose against yours, and murmuring against your lips. “Sleep well.”
You smile, leaning your forehead against his. “Good night, Stevie.”
Stepping away, he lifts your knuckles to his lips. “G’night.”
You stop him before he could turn all the way. “Steve?” He pauses to look over his shoulder at you with an eyebrow raised. You have a question, and you can’t help but ask it, it having been on your mind for days. “Why’d you stop your run just to sit by me?”
“And leave a beautiful dame like yourself before I could get your name? I may be a super soldier, honey, but I’m still a man. Abyssinia Friday, Y/N.”

revelation
He thinks when Jean-Pierre died, the last of his own will to continue going went with him. The howling, screaming boy, who is a man, who never reached the age Booker did when he first died before the ravages of cancer chewed him up and spit him out, doesn’t live half a week after Booker walked out of that ward. Booker walked and walked out until he found himself in a tavern and the burn of liquor tears itself down his throat and then instantly disappears and this is where it begins. If he can feel the burning sensation of alcohol healing just as quickly as it got there, he is still cursed to live on the plane of existence in a mockery of hell (or maybe purgatory? who’s to say he’s not swinging on that hangman’s noose in the freezing cold still, his clothes stolen from his back and his tongue thick in his mouth) as everything he ever loved disappeared into the ground.
They wait for him like he’s their missing horseman. The horseman of death, he laughs as he climbs on the grey they have for him. And there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him, he murmurs and moves away from the newly dug grave of his son, the lingering graves of his wife and other children. His life, his legacy, it all comes back to the dirt.
Fast forward nearly two hundred years and he is still the same, just meaner and more self absorbed. He’s been left to marinate and simmer but they forgot to turn the stove off. He’s not calm or peaceful like Joe or Nick, nor does he believe in the cause like Andy. He just is: bitter and mean and he looks in the mirror and sees Jean-Pierre looking back, lank blond hair in place of black curls. He brought this loneliness on himself but he can’t stop himself railing against it, scoffing at them. Dear Nicky and Joe, tell me more about how you know what I go through now, tell me more about how the grief you almost went through is like a fire through your veins, how maybe now you’ll understand the last two hundred years. Love, Booker.
He drinks himself to death more than once, again, in the same streets of Paris like a freak mockery, round and round he goes, he’s forever coming back to this god forsaken land mourning something. He tries therapy because he figures why the fuck not, he’s tried everything else in the nearly three hundred years he’s been alive and the man asks him, what’s brought you to me today, Sebastien? And Booker, the dumb fuck that he is, buys in full wager and says all my children are dead and there’s not a single moment that goes by that I cannot forget they existed, like people want me to. It makes me do terrible, terrible things. Makes me mean, makes me snap my teeth like a dog that’s been beat.
The psychologist writes all this down on his little tablet and then looks at him, dead in the eye.
Losing a child is a terrible thing, Sebastien, and like all terrible things it can make us terrible, too.
He leans forward in his chair, elbows on his knees.
I think it’s more than that, doc, I think there’s something wrong with me, genuinely. It feels like nothing can ever be right, that I can never do anything right.
Sebastien, every person is capable of terrible things. Things just happen and there’s no rhyme or reason to it, but if you can take yourself back from thinking you are locked in a cycle, that you don’t have to do these terrible things, even just once, you are good. Nothing will ever bring your children back but neither can being a victim to your own innate need to hit back. You say you don’t have the spark to do good but what are you reacting against when you are like this? It’s an injustice, isn’t it?
The clock, frozen for two hundred years, begins to tick on his life.

Time’s a Ticking || Matthew Tkachuk
Notes: anyways I decided to do matty and I found this long list of soulmate AU prompts so I know what I’m doing tonight yikes. so here’s a lil bit of a nervous/anxious matty even tho he refuses to admit it. hope you enjoy!!! let me know how you like it <3
Summary: everyone is born with a dwindling time on their wrist. the moment the time reaches zero is when a person meets their other half, the person who makes them whole; their soulmate.
Word Count: 3k+
Tumblr media
10,584. 7 days, 8 hours and 24 minutes. 7 days until he’d meet his other half, the person that’s meant to complete his soul, be his better half, or whatever a soulmate is meant to be. Matthew wasn’t crazy about the idea of soulmates, sure, he was surrounded by people who were madly in love and happy and complete; but he was also surrounded by those people... the one’s whose time stopped, girls and guys who had a permanent marking of time on their wrist that would never move again.
He wouldn’t say he was a pessimistic person, but he had seen so many friends and family fall into a spiral after their soulmate clock stopped ticking, watched as their other half broke them without even meeting them. He wanted to be excited and optimistic but Matthew couldn’t bring himself to feel the same delight that his friends did on his behalf. Anything could happen in this 7 days, 8 hours... and 22 minutes now.
6160 minutes
You could feel the bump of the plane as it touched the ground. This was the one part of flying you hated the most, the anxiety and the bumping as the plane made its way down the runway towards its destination. You knew anything bad was unlikely to happen, but your nerves were on edge. All you could think about was the time on your wrist, the time that kept on ticking. It hadn’t stopped in your entire 21 years of life, and from the looks of it, you were approximately four days away from that happening.
Sighing, you listened to the claps from around you as everyone congratulated the pilots for landing the plane safely. Around you, people stood up and began collecting their belongings, grabbing their bags from the overhead compartments as the chatter continued in the cabin.
You politely smiled at the man beside you as he passed you down your bag, a quick “Thank you” leaving your lips as he gestured for you to walk in front of him towards the exit.
Originally, you hadn’t had any intention of leaving Alberta for the holiday break, but your parents had practically begged you to come home for the holiday’s, citing the fact you had remained in Lake Louise for the last year and that they had only seen you once since you made the choice to unravel everything you knew by packing a few bags and moving halfway across the country to Alberta to work at some fancy ski resort in the mountains.
It was originally only meant to be a few months worth of work, waitressing in Lake Louise at a 5-star resort that is, and then time kept going by, and the more and more you fell in love with not only the scenery, but the people. Everyone was happy there, tourists were always excited and polite, everyone just wanted the chance to see the Lake, skate on the Lake, whatever it was. No one was ever unhappy here, and you loved that.
You were pulled out of your thoughts as the line in front of you continued to move quickly, people eager to get out of the cabin and get back into the fresh air that flowed outside. You could barely contain your giddiness as you stepped off the plane. You could barely believe how much you missed the province, missed your friends, coworkers, you even missed the tourists. Who would’ve thought?
After about 20 minutes of watching the carousal spin and spin and spin, you finally eyed your bright red, Flames red, as a lot of people reminded you, suitcase. Grabbing it, you hauled the bag off of the carousal and onto the ground. You were eager to get to your car, which you had already paid a good 500 dollars worth of parking for, and eager to get the move on the three hour drive across Highway 1 to Lake Louise.
After four and a half hours of travelling, you knew this three hour drive was going to exhaust you. And with the temperature out in Alberta right now? All you wanted was your bed and a cup of piping warm hot chocolate to end the day.
4590 minutes
“Man, your face is already awful to look at. You really trying to ruin it even more right before you meet your soulmate?”
Before Noah could even think, a wad of tape hit the side of his head while exclamations went up around the room about the choice of target. “Whoops, guess my tape slipped... out of my hand.”
Matthew shrugged his shoulders, an innocent grin on his face as he stood up to grab the tape from beside Noah Hanifin’s locker.
“No, but seriously, why are you getting into fights with three days left on your wrist? Don’t go and get yourself killed or something, they’d be devastated if they’ve waited this long for your dumb-ass just to have 4000 minutes tattooed on her wrist for the rest of her life.”
Shrugging his shoulders, Matthew ignored his teammates comments, choosing instead to run his finger across the always-changing number on his wrist.
“It’s not like it matters anyways.” His words were barely above a mumble, but it was enough to spark the attention of his captain, who was quick to tell him to meet him in the trainer’s office after he was done showering and getting the blood that was currently dripping down his face, cleaned.
Obliging on his captain’s orders, he found Gio in the office, a tight smile the only warning that he was about to get ripped apart by the veteran. Gio was one of the lucky ones, he had barely been 16 when his clock finally hit the big 0. It made him an advocate for all the soulmate bullshit, constantly encouraging his teammates to wait it out, be patient, their time would come.
“Chucky, buddy, we gotta have a chat.”
Quirking his eyebrows at the older man, Matthew nodded, “Well Gio, I kinda figured that one out buddy, unless you pulled me in here to look at my oh so pretty face.”
“I’m serious. You need to stop with this constant bashing of soulmates and times and shit. I know you don’t like it and you hate the concept of soulmates and whatever, but you’re doing nothing but worrying the younger guys. These kids are constantly terrified their minutes are just going to stop and be etched into their skin.”
Subconsciously running his fingers across the number on his wrist again, 4530 minutes. Wonder what that is in exact time. Shrugging his shoulders, he was quick to apologize to his captain. “Sorry, G. Not trying to scare the kids, just getting a little... I don’t know? Worried? It’s getting too close, I don’t want to get like...  it’s not important, never mind. I’ll stop talking about times in the locker room. Sorry.”
Quickly tightening the tie that was now wrapped around his neck, Matthew raced out of the office before Gio could say something else to him. He eagerly grabbed his phone, wallet, keys and suit jacket before quickly making his way towards the parking garage, the only thing on his mind was of course, you.
2120 minutes
One whole day and just a few hours. You could barely breath as you ran your thumb over the little black number on your wrist. You knew it was inevitable that you’d be meeting your soulmate while working, the moment you looked at the work schedule when you arrived back from home, you knew you’d be stuck working during the time in which you were meant to meet you soulmate. You were giddy, sure. But what if they didn’t like you? What if whoever it was, was snooty, and rude, and didn’t like you for who you were?
“Y/N, you gotta stop thinking about it, babe. You’re gonna get your head stuck in a whirlwind of thoughts. Think about other things! Like... the Calgary Flames.”
Eyeing the blonde beside you, “Tell me Cassidy, why in the world, would I think about the Calgary Flames, instead of thinking about my soulmate?”
Your coworker shrugged her shoulders and gestured to the board behind your head. You had all been notified a day prior that the Calgary Flames had reserved a whole floor of the Chateau for the weekend. With your restaurant being directly in view of the Lake and the Mountains, you were expected to be the main dining spot for the team over their course of the weekend.
“Believe me, Cass, the last thing I want to think about is a bunch of hockey boys who are going to make me miserable the weekend where I’m supposed to be... not miserable.”
She winked at you, a teasing glint in her eyes, “Maybe one of those awful hockey boys has the same number on your wrist. Maybe Noah Hanifin’s your soulmate. God, I’d be so jealous, could you imagine being destined for that beautiful exhibit of a man? God, I’d climb him like a tree.”
Laughing, you wacked her with the towel in your hand as she continued to egg you on, gloating about how beautiful of a specimen Noah Hanifin was, and how she’d do just anything to crawl into bed with that man. Cassidy was always like this, bubbly, happy, positive. Her number had stopped moving 12 years ago, or so she says. She hadn’t been paying attention the day it stopped, the number etching itself into her skin permanently, to never move again. She was never negative about it, always saying that she hoped just the thought of her brought peace to her soulmate in their last moments.
“Okay okay, enough about the Flames. I doubt it’s even going to end up being any of them, hockey boys and I do not get along. Especially the one’s that are just constantly bothering people, and that’s the entire Flames roster, so... let’s get back to work.”
440 minutes
One thing Matthew was sure of was the fact that he loved everything about the drive to Lake Louise. He wasn’t notorious for being a huge fan of the scenery around him, but something about the drive across Highway 1, the trees, the snow covered mountains, they all just faded together and created this picture in his head. It was hard to describe, there wasn’t anything specific to the picture, it was just joyful, it was happy, it was calm. Jesus, maybe he was just fucking crazy.
A lot of people always said you feel more calm in the hours leading up to the first time you meet your soulmate. But he sure as hell didn’t feel calm. He was on edge, the scenery around him, albeit, it was beautiful, it was not calming him down. His leg was shaking, his foot tapping the ground beneath him on the bus. He could see Johnny giving him a look every time his shaking leg touched his teammates. He knew the entire team was frustrated with him. Two games straight, two 10 minute fighting majors.
He was being a pest, constantly egging people on, trying to ignite arguments or fights or just some form of stimuli to get his mind off of the only thing it could stray to. You. He didn’t want to think about whoever the hell you were, he didn’t want to get his hopes up that maybe his clock would actually hit 0, maybe he’d actually meet his better half. Or maybe he'd fall through a crack in Lake Louise and never have to worry about it again... hopefully.
“If you touch my leg... one more fucking time, I am going to sock you in the fucking face Chucky.”
Immediately pressing his heel into the ground, Matthew mumbled out a quick ‘sorry’ to the teammate beside him as he watched the trees continue to go by outside the bus window. The time was still changing on his wrist, every minute counting down as the minutes passed outside. There was barely any cell service on the drive up, so the only thing that could truly distract him at this rate, was you, and he hated that.
“Soooo... you excited Chucky? It’s gotta be the big day, no?”
If choking a teammate was legal, Matthew would already be wringing Noah Hanifin’s neck.
“Yeah, delighted.”
“C’mon grumpy pants, you’re literally like what? 6 hours away from meeting the person who’s supposed to complete your soul... and you’re in a foul mood. Did Doughty crawl up your ass and die last night or?”
Grinding his teeth, Matthew tried to bite his tongue, refusing to lash out at his teammate, even though he so desperately wanted to. He wasn’t going to be the cause for a toxic locker room, especially over something as stupid as soulmates.
It was obvious that something was going on, everyone on the team knew the time on his wrist equalled out to less than a day. Everyone could see how on edge he was slowly getting as the time dwindled down, but no one could figure out why he was getting more and more frustrated, why the excitement wasn’t shining through as the time continued.
“Why the hell aren’t you excited man? This person’s supposed to be the love of your life, and you seem like you couldn’t give two fucks if you meet them or not?”
It was too late, Matthew was exploding before he could even comprehend what he was saying. “It doesn’t fucking matter man, okay? I don’t give a shit about this soulmate bullshit. Everyone’s soulmate is gone one day anyways, what the hell does it matter if you meet them now? I’m gonna be aching at some point because they’re gone and I’m alone. Woohoo, I get to meet them today, woo-fucking-hoo. I could literally not care less, so stop bugging me.”
27 minutes.
It was all around, highly likely, that your soulmate had some form of connection with the Calgary Flames. Their reservation was scheduled for 23 minutes from now... and your wrist had that small number 27 etched on it as it continued to count down.
“Wow... maybe your soulmate really is Noah Hanifin... I’m sorry for saying I’d climb him like a tree.”
A loud laugh left your throat as you watched a guilty smile form on your co-workers face. “Cass, I highly doubt it’s Noah Hanifin. It’s probably just a coincidence that their reservation time coincides with my meeting my soulmate time.” Cassidy gave you a knowing look as she walked away, a small smile on her face.
You were anxious, you couldn’t deny it. Every second that counted down, you were nervous, what if you weren’t good enough for them? What if they were embarrassed it was you? What if... oh god... what if they hated soulmates? What if they were one of those people who was willing to cut the tie, ignore the call, ignore the connection?
You refused to think about that, instead putting yourself to work, clearing the tables and plates of the previous occupants, you waved off the clearing crew, instead choosing to do it yourself. Anything to get your mind off of it.
The Flames weren't the only occupants of the Chateau tonight, only taking up about half, you were able to still seat other tourists who were interested in the view tonight.
That’s how you found yourself, 25 minutes later, your hand on your hip as you interacted with the group of rowdy guys in front of you. They were from Edmonton, and they were absolutely hammered. They were as nice as you could expect them to be, continuously flirting your ears off, as they tried to impress you with their... what was it? Accounting job? You couldn’t remember for the life of you, your mind solely stuck on the small number 1 now etched on your wrist.
You were roused out of your thoughts at the feeling of a hand touching your waist. “C’mon sweetheart, you’re not even paying attention to us here. Take a shot with us, baby!”
You politely removed the offending wrist, a tight smile now etched on your face. “First, I would ask that you please don’t touch me. Second, I was most definitely listening. You boys want another round of beers, and 6 tequila shots. Unfortunately, I don’t believe the shots are the best idea, nor do I think the beer is, but I’ll definitely get you a glass of water.”
Spinning on your heel, you went to walk away but were stopped by the feeling of a hand tightly gripping your wrist, a small squeak falling from your lips.
“We don’t want water.”
“Please get your hand off of me.”
“Get us what I asked for then, bitch.”
You were about to retort, a vicious snarl on your lips, but your words were caught in your throat as you watched a fist connect to the cheek of the man in front of you, a gasp leaving your throat.
2 minutes
This had to be a joke. He was apparently two minutes away from meeting his soulmate, and here he was, in an orderly fashioned line as him and his teammates made their way into the restaurant. He could barely breath, his pants felt too tight on his hips, he could feel the sweat seeping through his shirt. Thank god he made the choice to wear black.
It felt like everyone’s eyes were on his, everyone was wearily watching the number on his wrist go down, as the obvious anxieties began to cloud his every thought, action, move... everything.
He tried to take his mind off of it, observing the restaurant as the team slowly made their way to their designated tables. There were a few other patrons, most of them caught up in their own world. One specific table caught his eye, they were a group of rowdy guys, maybe a few years older than him.
Quite frankly, they looked like all around assholes. Looked like the guys you’d see from Wolf of Wall Street, and from the looks of it, they were really starting to irritate their waitress. Although, all he could see was your back, your posture was unbelievably straight, your hand on your hip as you inventively listened to the guys in front of you.
Matthew continued to watch you, something inside of him telling him that he just couldn’t look away. He had to keep looking. He watched as you turned your body, ready to walk to wherever your destination in mind was, but he instantly zeroed in on the hand that was now tightly wrapped around your wrist, a violent look on the man’s face.
He wasn’t moving on his own accord now, his feet were basically moving by themselves as they raced towards you.
“Get us what I asked for then, bitch.”
His fist was connecting with the other man’s face before he could even think. He heard the gasp from beside him, he watched the number on his wrist hit 0 the exact moment he looked at you, a look of shock on everyone’s faces.
“Chucky!”
“What the fuck are you doing?”
“I’m going to call the police you fucking curly-headed fuck.”
He could barely focus on the voices around him. You were here. You were literally right in front of him. Both of your numbers were at 0, he could see it on your wrist. He was literally staring in the eyes of his soulmate.
“Oh my god, you punched one of our guests.” Your voice was like bells to his ear, soft, delicate, everything he wasn’t... but god, you were perfect.
“I’m Matthew, and yes... I uh... I think I did punch one of your guests. I also think you’re my soulmate. Does it count as self-defence... if I punched him in my soulmate’s defence?”
You laughed, trying to cover it up with your mouth as you watched your manager’s rush towards the now bleeding asshole at the table behind you.
“I think I like you already, Matthew.”

Zero to Six ~ I’ll Fight to be Apart of this Family - Edited Version. Part 5.
Characters: Four X Zero (OC)
Summary: Zero was the first person to be ‘saved’ by One, she was his first honorary Ghost. Her knowledge in tech meant she got the role of ‘Hacker’ she recruited new team members, looked for missions and locations and made sure every security measure was looked at. You know normal hacker spy stuff. But her tough up bringing meant that if needs be she could fight, she was maybe even better than some people on the team knew. But due to One’s protectiveness over her she had to stay hidden, she was more of an actual ghost than the rest of the team was. This didn’t mean she couldn’t have her fun though, over the months of being with the full team she had formed quite a passionate love/ hate relationship with the handsome Four. Who knows what sparks would fly if they were ever to meet. Warnings: Slight swearing, some suggestive flirting in later chapters.

“Are we just not going to discuss the stranger in the room? why is the bartender here?” Four smirked at Zero. She in turn just raised her eyebrow at the blonde haired beauty, daring him to continue. “And why is Five giving her first aid?”
The room went silent, everyone was looking at Zero like she was the enemy, and in a way she was. This group of people were the closest thing she had to family and yet she was an impostor, an outsider who’s voice was the only thing the team had ever heard that’s the only thing they knew her by. She hoped One would forgive her for what she was about to do.
Zero coughed away any last nervous about coming clean. "You know for what you guys do, you are all so dumb sometimes."
Zero in return heard a hiss, her head snapped to the direction it came from. She was faced with One, his face and neck had gone completely red with how angry he was.  A look that told Zero to shut her gob if she knew what was good for her.
"What?!" Was she really that surprised? It was One after all, did she really think he’d just let her spill the beans right here, right now when he’d kept her away for so many years.
"She, she just stumbled in here after the bar fight, and the doctor couldn't resist helping her." Zero looked from One appalled, to Five who was just as taken a back as Zero was. Her eyebrows furrowed as she gave a concerning look between the both of them.
Zero couldn't help but clock onto the suspicious glare that Two was giving her. She definitely knew the truth, she was an incredibly smart woman and Zero wouldn’t be shocked if she didn’t know the moment she walked into the room. She looked back to One who she could tell was getting more and more worried over the glances everyone in the room was giving Zero.
"Your name was Lilly right?" One asked marching up to Zero and grabbing her hand, but Zero shrugged it off "Come on I'll take you home."
Everyone was looking at One like he'd lost his mind, the team was supposed to be a secret so why would he offer to take a stranger home? The air was so thick in the kitchen that even a knife wouldn’t cut it.  To make matters worse Four was starring Zero down with such ferocity she thought those ocean blue eyes she’d only seen in photo’s would melt her to the ground. She just raised her eyebrows at the man again, more threatening this time. Zero was brought back by the tug on her arm, she hissed back at One but jumped down off the counter anyway. As she slowly made her way pasted Five she quietly thanked her for being there to help her as best she could for the night.
“Who is she One?” Three pressed on, One looked like he would explode any moment, the man who never seemed to make such stupid mistakes had nearly revealed one of his biggest secrets. “No one, she’s no one. Just a normal bartender.” Zero stopped abruptly which also dragged One to a stop as his hand was still around her arm.  When he whipped around she took the opportunity to strike the man straight across his dumb face.
One looked at her shocked, she herself was in shock at what she had just done. Had she actually just assaulted him? The man that had saved her life all those years ago, gave her food and shelter, she owed him everything and she had just straight up assaulted him. She looked at her hand that now slightly stung in shock, as did everyone else in the room.  One’s shock only lasted a couple of seconds before his face turned stony cold and once again he latched onto Zero’s arm and headed towards the door.
After everything that just happened Zero couldn’t help but still be memorised as she approached Four, he was breath taking, a beautiful sight to look at. It was almost like looking into the blinding sun that eventually you had to tear your sight away from, in case of damage to the eyes.
She felt a wave of sadness overcome her suddenly, she had been so close to Four actually knowing who she was, she’d been close to the whole team knowing it was her. God even one normal conversation with him probably wouldn't have satisfied her enough but it would have been a start at least. Yet One just had to take even that away from her, while she was grateful for everything One had done for her, he was still in turn hurting her.  What she really needed was a real family and she had found that in these guys but One was always in the way.  If her only way was to fight to be apart of this family, then so be it.
"Hurry up" One snapped out angrily, there was definitely going to be consequences for hitting him and she knew it. But she was done being alone.
Zero looked back at Five who was still in shock and what looked like awe, she seemed to blink back to a little normality when she caught Zeros eye again. She gave Zero a ‘You’ll be okay’ look and a little nod, Zero was happy to know that she at least had Five to rant to afterwards when everything with One had settled.
As Zero got closer and closer to the little blonde shit leaning on the door frame she swore she could see him smirking at her, she had to also fight the urge to slap him into next week as well, he’d just seen it first hand so he should be scared. But as she crossed the thresh hold of the hotel kitchen his hand that was hanging by his side brushed against hers and it felt like lightning shooting up her arm, across her shoulder and up the side of her neck.  She tried not to show the shiver it sent down her spine but the urge was taking over her. She met his eyes again and to her surprise she saw the same reaction but he quickly hid it.  A sudden desired to leave struck her so she decided to just keep walking after One, who had steamed ahead of her.
Once outside she felt like the mist in her mind had cleared a little, but as soon as she saw One angrily waiting beside his car she suddenly felt all the anger rush back. "What the actual fuck One?!" She screamed marching her way to the passenger door.
He opened up his side of the car. "Shut up and get in the car." He said calmly which scared her more than if he had shouted it at her, he got in the drivers seat but slammed the door shut which made her jump in turn. Zero just huffed, not wanting to get in more trouble than she was already in.
"Where are you taking me?" She sighed defeated.
"Home." He said shortly.
"Why?, why did you do that?"
"Do what? A better question is why did you hit me?!" He didn't look at her but she could tell with every word he spoke he was getting more angry.
"Okay in my defence, you were being a dick! you make me think I was finally becoming apart of the team, which then you revealed was just a ‘mistake’ I think you’d also feel like punching someone if you thought you were finally getting the family you deserved just to have them ripped away from you in the same moment!" I tried so hard to not to scream my lungs out at him but the more I spoke the harder it got.
"You knew that they weren't suppose to meet you! Why are you suddenly surprised. I told you when we first made the team that this was how it was going to be and you agreed!" One spat back.
"I did agree! but I was still in a bad place at that time and I wasn’t looking for friends let alone a whole family, I didn’t know that I was actually going to find a sense of security in these group of strangers did I!” The tears started to stream down Zeros face, she could taste the saltiness of her tears with every drop. “I want to go back! I want to complete the rest of the mission, I’ve come this far there is no way I’m bailing out now, just to go sit in that apartment manning the coms by myself for the rest of eternity."
"No." He deadpanned, which made Zero even more angry. Had he not listened to anything she had just said to him? Did he not see just how much this mattered to her.
"One I’m not afraid to knock you out and drive there myself, I think I just proved that back in the kitchen." He just raised his eyebrows at her, like it was a challenge. "Come on One! why are you doing this to me? Why are you keeping me hidden? What do you gain from it."
"Because your job is best done in a flat somewhere, anywhere. Where no one can trace you."
"Bullshit!" Zero screamed which made One forcefully pulled the car over to the side of the road, the suddenness of the stop made her surge forward a little but luckily her seat belt prevented her from travelling any further forward.
"Please just tell me the truth." She said quietly, by this point she was drained physically and emotionally. "Why do you keep me away? and I don't want any of your bullshit. You and I both know I can do my work in any environment."
"I just want to keep you safe." One kept his focus straight ahead, staring out of the windscreen into the darkness.
"What do you mean? Since when have you ever cared about anyone's safety on this team?" I asked confused.
One had few rules, but one of the main rules that One lived by was if anyone gets stuck on a mission they are to be left behind. The team can never be exposed, so if one of them gets left behind because of capture or injury then it's just the price the team has to unfortunately pay.
"You were the first person I found." He slowly turned his head to look at Zero, this was the first piece of real emotion she’d ever seen from the man. She just looked at him confused and rightly so.
"Why does it matter who came first? I thought you weren't meant to care about any of us?"
"I’m not." He shrugged now trying to seem like he wasn’t intrested in the conversation anymore, hoping she’d drop the subject. "But you were the first member of the team, You were in a very bad situation when I found you. I do actually have human feelings you know and I guess, In a way I grew fond of you."
Zero didn’t know what to feel, was she actually touched by this? She’d known One for a few years now and this was the most emotion she’d ever seen the man show, although she did think of him as closed off and cold he’d still saved her so in some way she rested him. "So why keep me away?"
"I didn't want you to ever get hurt, It would hurt too much to leave you behind if you got stuck. But it's a price i'd have to pay."
"Then don't, what you’re saying is that deep down, somewhere in that cold heart of yours you do actually care for this team you’ve created. So change the rule. We all need to be there for each other, especially now." I said reaching out to him.
"You know I can't do that. The mission comes first." His voice grew cold again and she knew she’d never see his vulnerable side again, shrugging off her hand he turned away to stare back out into the darkness.
"Then at least take me back to the team. I can work at the base, I don't want to be alone anymore One." He looked at her dead in the eye. "I’m starting to go stark raving mad staying in those apartments by myself not seeing anyone for years on end takes a toll on a person."
"You're hurting me more by keeping me away from them."
They both sat there for a moment in silence as Zero watched the cogs in One’s head turn, she thought if she pushed enough maybe, just maybe she’d get her way for once.
"Fine.” Did he just agree? “But I’m warning you now, if you get left behind on a mission, or injured I’m not coming back for you." He started up the car again, eerily calm It always annoyed her to no end that she could never figure this man out.
"I've known that since day one." He didn’t say another word as he turned the car around and sped off.
When they reached the base she was shocked to see just how many old and broken down planes One had collected over the years. "You’re still collecting them I see"
"Even got one or two that actually work." He mused.
It may have seem like a childish thought given the circumstances but Zero honestly couldn’t wait to explore every single aircraft in the graveyard. One had made it up the long dirt road by the time Zero came back to her senses, the car stopped and she could see a big crate in front of her and standing outside the only door was a great big dog.
"Hey boy it's fine, she's with me." The dog then ran to One’s side and he started to pet him affectionately.
I just scoffed, raising my eyebrows at him. “What?”
“So the dog gets your affection but we don’t?” Zero grabbed her chest, gasping pretending he’d hurt her heart but One just rolled his eyes at her and told her to stop being so dramatic. He then guided her up to an aeroplane that had a cartoon of a ghost with three lightning bolts shooting out of its hand near the entrance.
Zero laughed to herself. "I like that!" Pointing to the symbol.
"It’s in honour of you and your spooky shit." She looked at him shocked. “Don’t say I never do anything for you.”
She let him walk ahead of her so she could get her bearings, what came next was going to be a big shock to her system.
"One, you're back! I’m going to need you to spill, who was the bartender? Come on you’re never nice to anyone! Let alone giving a stranger a ride home." As soon as Zero heard that annoyingly sexy British accent she stopped dead in her tracks.
"I'll let her tell you herself."
Then there was silence. It finally hit her that she was about to meet the only family she’d ever known.
She was mostly scared because all she wanted was for them to like her, which she knew they already did but now, seeing and being with them in the flesh she didn’t want to mess their connection up. Especially with Four. She couldn’t deny that her and Fours connection even just through coms was a strong one, she just didn’t know what that connection meant yet but she was definitely excited to find out, she just hoped her feelings for him aren’t one sided.
She took a deep breath to calm herself, then rounded the corner.
"Hey guys." She smiled at all their awestruck faces, she gave a little awkward waving but internally scolded herself afterwards.
Everyone but Two looked at her in shock, she just had to laugh, that woman was too smart for her own good.  "Well darling, the anticipation is killing us." Fours dark eyes were trained on Zero as he leaned on the table, she swore in that moment her legs turned to jelly.
"Well if you'd actually let me speak you'd find out sooner, wouldn’t you monkey boy." Her words seemed to snap something in him as he shot straight.
Everyone else just laughed as the realisation of who they were meeting struck them. She just smirked at them all, finally she could be in on jokes, eat with them and just get to be around the people she cares about most in this cruel world.
"Zero?!" Three said enthusiastically, bounding towards her and scooping her up into a bear hug.
She felt like all the air was being squeezed out of her but she didn’t mind one bit. "Glad to see there are actually some smart people around here.” She chocked out.
“Three can you please release Zero, you’re literally suffocating our only hacker.” One said annoyed while he was fiddling with some magnets.
Three let her down and she just smiled, patting him on the shoulder to let him know she was okay. "Sorry! Sorry, I’m just so excited to finally meet you mami!" He proceeded to kiss both of her cheeks.
She just laughed at how adorable he acted in person, Three had always been one of her favourite ghosts. He wasn’t the smartest and most of the time made the worst decisions but he was sweet and funny and wouldn’t waste a single second if you were in trouble, he’d be by your side.
"Well dam." Four was leaning with his back against the table, arms crossed and staring Zero down. Her eyes travelled to his and she couldn’t bring herself to look away.
Someone in the room, Zero couldn’t tell who coughed awkwardly which snapped both Zero and Four out of their intense staring competition.
“So, the new mission?”

Rowan glanced at his pocket watch and attempted to swallow his irritation.
How was it only nine-o-clock still? He had already suffered through enough social niceties to last a lifetime.
Now, he listened with but half a mind to his cousin drone on about the night's guests. His head was filled with all the tasks he needed to see to, including searching for a new governess for his sons. His boys kept chasing away every woman he employed and he was hesitant to hire a tutor, because he believed they needed a woman's influence too, now that his own wife was too ill. The physician had done all he could but there was not much hope she would wake, loathe as he was to admit it. Perhaps he should have accepted his mother-in-law's offer and send the boys to their her after all?
"--and Arobynn's here too—"
That caught his attention. "He is?"
"Mhmm. Look, over there, no, no, to the left—besides the pretty redhead, yes, just so."
A man stood by the entrance with a red-haired woman on his arm, tall and muscular, with a fine-boned face. His auburn hair were pulled back into a bun, offsetting his pale skin and the fine cut of his suit was a stark reminder of his prominent position in society, despite the whole stigma around tradesmen.
"I knew he was fond of flaunting convention but escorting his mistress to a ball?"
"You haven't heard?" James approached them with a drink in his hand. "She is not his mistress but an adoptive daughter of sorts and his apparent heir."
Fenrys choked on his drink.
"He named a girl heir to his trade empire—and not even his own blood—stupid!"
"Spoken like a man," said the gentleman and shook his head. "He raised her himself, is introducing her to all his associates and she doesn't look dumb either."
James nodded towards the redhead he had seen earlier, dressed in the finest black silk with a neckline low enough, it bordered on scandalous. Her copperish-red hair were pinned into an elegant coiffure with pretty, gold hair combs and a simple, pearl necklace completed the striking picture she made. Her sharp, defined features were barely beautiful until she laughed—a musical sound in itself—and he wondered whether he had seen anyone prettier.
"If hers was the last face I ever saw, I'd die a happy man." Fenrys sighed and walked off.
James rolled his eyes. "He's about to seek an introduction to her, isn't he?"
Rowan's lips twitched up.
He had always liked James. The man was completely without artifice and his enthusiasm for everything was so infectious, no one could remain angry with him. He had spent a few summers with the Galathynius children, until their youngest daughter was abducted and the visits stopped.
"I say you must frown a little less, sir, unless you wish to give offense."
Rowan looked up, startled at being addressed by the object of his thoughts. She looks even lovelier up close, thought he.
"I detest these events."
"So do half the people in this room and yet, appearances must be maintained."
"Deceit is not in my nature."
The lady frowned. "It is not deceitful to pretend you are interested in an event in order to spare your host's feelings."
"Your motive may be charitable but it is no excuse for dishonesty."
The lady looked amused but did not pursue the topic further. "I hope you will forgive me for speaking without a proper introduction, sir. I am not a fan of convention."
Rowan smiled.
An unmarried woman, not even of age, and already a heiress to a trade empire—by all accounts, she did not seem like one.
"I will, if you allow me to remedy the situation now." He bowed with exaggerated formality. "I am Mr. Rowan Whitethorn of Harcomb, in Doranelle."
Her cheek dimpled. "Miss Celaena Sardothein—my father—"
"Mr. Hamel, yes, I know." He almost cringed at how rude he sounded. "He and I, we are—"
"—business associates, yes, I know," she teased with an impish grin, replying in a poor imitation of his own deep voice.
Her eyes twinkled with amusement, filled with laughter and mirth—turquoise orbs, ringed with brilliant gold.
All of his resolve flew out of the window. "Miss Sardothein, will you allow me the pleasure of leading you into the first set? The dancing is about to commence."
"The pleasure will be all mine."
In hopes of starting a conversation, he said, "You are a fine dancer."
"I would have believed you to be a liar if we hadn't already established that deceit of any sort is your abhorrence."
He smiled. "And if I were being insincere?"
"I would take it as a compliment to myself, for it will mean that you are acting on my advice from earlier about lying for the sake of appearances."
They fell silent again.
"We must talk some, you know," said Rowan. "For someone who claims to be concerned with appearances, do you not think it would look odd for us to spend a half hour together but in silence."
She startled at the sudden statement. "Introduce a topic then and I will do my poor best to maintain the conversation."
Rowan complied and was pleasantly surprised to find her lively and good-humored and well-informed on most subject from current fashion disasters to books to political bills and movements. Her arguements were passionate and far from taking offense at his dry humor, she matched it with witty quips of her own; and to top it alll off, she was as skilled a dancer as a conversationalist.
Rowan was almost annoyed when the song came to an end. He could not recall the last time he had been half as well entertained.

"You will be the death of me, you foolish, foolish chit!" screeched the old matron.
Fenrys had allowed himself to be dragged into a bookstore, which happened to be one of his least favourite places, by his cousin, James—the second son to his uncle, Lord Rhoe, the Earl of Narrowcreek—and was now eager for any sort of amusement. He turned towards the high-pitched shriek with interest.
A young lady stood near the shelves, tall and proud, even in the face of her mother's ill-bred manners.
Her blonde hair fell down in waves, half pinned by dragonfly-shaped hair combs. The fabric of her dress was fine enough for her to belong to the first circles and yet, he could not recall seeing her—or her mother—anywhere.
"Ungrateful child! Wait until I tell your father what you did; he will be most displeased."
She bit her lip to contain her mirth, though her cheeks flushed with embarassment. Her eyes flitted to the door and back, as if she was looking for some escape.
"Poor girl," the bookshop owner murmured.
The following words had the unfortunate attention of drawing the mother's attention towards the owner.
Lord Fenrys almost laughed at the alarmed look on the owner's face when she began lamenting to him instead and then looked over at the lady who was staring at the door with a thoughtful look, as if wondering whether or not to attempt an escape.
She must have decided in it's favour because she gathered her skirts and made a mad dash towards the door.
Fenrys realised he was standing in her way and hastened to move but it was too late—
"Darn!" cried she.
The commotion drew her mother's attention and upon spotting her wayward daughter lying on the floor with a grimace, she rushed over with a whole new litany of complaints.
Fenrys could have sworn the lady cursed under her breath.
"Stubborn, stubborn child! I told you not to run off without me but oh, how you love vexing me," shouted her mother in her high-pitched voice. "And what are you doing, bothering this fine gentleman over here? You had better not to talk to anyone if you are determined to refuse them all. You broke that poor man's heart—"
Fenrys quirked an eyebrow in interest, looking thoroughly entertained.
Her cheeks flushed further.
He frowned.
Up close, her face looked awfully familiar. He searched his brain for an answer.
A memory flashed in front of his mind. A highly unconventional black dress, a tinkling laugh and a ballroom.
Realisation dawned.
"Miss Sardothein! Fancy seeing you here," said he. "I almost didn't recognise you because of the hair."
"The hair? Oh, yes, I am very fond of dyes, but you have caught me in my natural state."
"I find you lovelier than ever. If you will forgive me for prying, I could not help but observe you haven't bought a thing yet, even though I know you to be a great reader! Is the reading material not to your taste, Miss Sardothein?"
Celaena answered wryly, "As a matter of fact, the books here suit my tastes very well—It is only that I am not allowed to buy books for a month—as punishment."
"No books! And what awful crime did you commit to merit that?"
"I rejected a marriage offer."
"A capital offense!"
Celaena smiled, "Indeed."
"I hope you are appropriately ashamed of yourself!"
"Horrified at my own audacity, really."
The lady looked up at him and grinned; Fenrys' own face turned pale and his mouth fell open in surprise. Ashryver eyes! She had ashryver eyes—like James, Aedion, and their mothers Helen and Evalin and—gods. The little poem his cousins had made up in childhood came to the forefront of his mind.
"The fairest eyes, from legends old,
Of brightest blue, ringed with gold."
But how...?
He looked at the woman again: her eyes bright and mirthful and thick eyelashes resting on her cheek, the face tugged at his memory; and she smiled so impishly, he had seen that smile before—
"Aelin," he blurted out.
He was startled when her smile dropped and recognition flickered in her eyes.
Fenrys shot an alarmed look towards the shelf behind which James had disappeared. Aelin was here! But how could this be? His heart thumped loudly inside his chest.
"Aelin?" She inclined her head in question.
He smiled uncertainly.
Was she really his little cousin? Aelin had been five year old when he last saw her.
But if he was wrong about this, could this come to bite him in the ass? She was certainly as old as his cousin would have been, had she been alive and she had the same unruly blonde curls and those ashryver eyes, teeming with life.
It couldn't be...
Arobynn's adoptive daughter.
"Yes, Aelin was my favourite cousin—you, uh, you remind me of her."
"If she is your favourite, then I am inclined to take that as a compliment." Celaena—Aelin?—smiled again, though her eyebrows remained drawn still. "The name does sound familiar. Perhaps I would have heard of her in the newspaper? The society column is a great source of amusement to my father. He reads it aloud to us from time to time."
Father? He wondered if she was talking of Arobynn or Mrs. Rhunn's husband.
Fenrys smiled sadly. "That is not possible for you see, my cousin died when she was five."
At least I thought she died.
"I am sorry for your loss." Then, with an arch look on her face, she asked, "If she was like me as you say, she must have been delightful."
He chuckled. "An absolute troublemaker."
"Definitely like me then," said she, sparing a look towards her mother. "I should leave now, before my mother lists you off as yet another suitor!"
And before he could think to stop her, she curtsied and scurried off.
Fenrys stared at the door, somewhat dumbfounded. Aelin is alive. He marvelled at the thought and then wondered how on earth he would inform her family—James would be ecstatic and his father would have to be informed, and Edward would have to be called to London, gods. Edward!
Aelin had been missed by all but no one grieved her as the poor man had.
Edward would be ecstatic; everyone would.
Fenrys ran towards his cousin out of breath, who was still examining titles in one corner.
"Fenrys, god, slow down, man! Whatever happened? You look like you saw a ghost."
He blinked.
Then, without any attempt at tact or discretion, he blurted out: "Aelin is alive."
Tumblr media
"Aelin, Aelin, stop that—no, look at your frock, mother will be so angry, no, Aelin! You will hurt yourself like that."
The man watched, concealed behind the ridge as a little girl skipped from one mud puddle to another, blonde curls bouncing up and down as she moved. Her elder brother followed at a more sedate place, calling out admonishments and threats, not that they had an effect on her.
Aelin grinned over her shoulder and ran, leading her brother on a merry chase.
The man was still debating how to go about abducting the girl when fortune smiled upon him; she twisted her leg and fell down, prompting the boy to run towards her.
"It hurts," she whimpered, refusing to stand.
The man smiled maliciously and waited as the boy looked around. "Very well," he said finally. "If you promise not to go anywhere, I will fetch papa. Do not move, Aelin."
The boy rushed towards the manor house, ignoring the twisted knots in his stomach and burst into his father's private study. In his panicked state of mind, it took a few attempts for Rhoe to make sense of his garbled words.
A foreboding feeling rose in his stomach.
She will be fine, he tried to reassure himself. Aelin, troublemaker that she was, had had a lot worse than a twisted ankle.
But his alarm grew the nearer they came to where she was supposed to be and his heart pounded inside his chest. All colour drained from his face when they didn't find Aelin where she was supposed to be.
"Are you certain this is where you left her?"
Edward nodded.
Rhoe suddenly felt dizzy, his knees buckled and bile rose up in his throat.
He reined himself in and with admirable composure, organised search parties to search around the estate and the neighbourhood.
The search carried on until late that night, when an express rider from the nearby magistrate arrived with a letter: a nearby warehouse had burned down earlier that day and two bodies were found: a man in his forties, who could not be identified and a seven year old girl who had on a silver anklet bearing the word fireheart and requested Mr. Galathynius' presence tomorrow at the warehouse to confirm the girl's identity.
Rhoe folded the letter, excused himself from company and sent his sons to their beds.
Then he entered his study: the study no one was allowed to enter without permission—except his Aelin—slumped into the armchair by the fireplace and wept.

( TEASER / devil in a new suit. )
Tumblr media
Money’s something that makes the world go around.  There’s absolutely nothing wrong with securing the bag.  You don’t shame anyone for doing what they need to do.
That is, until you come face to face with the poor guy that’s being suckered out of both his heart and cash.  You simply can’t let it go on.
pairing.  jjk x f!reader.
genre + rating.  a nice balance of fluff and angst (gasp?!).  smut at some point, certainly...  this teaser is family-friendly, though.  😇
tags / warnings.  mentions of infidelity, kook being adorable and sad, reader being a bit of a tactless butthole.  y’know - the usual.
wc.  1.1k for this teaser.  undetermined full story.
beta reader(s).  i forced @hobi-gif and @snackhobi to read this over cause they are my hope and joy, but this is...  just word vomit tbh.
author note.  this idea came to me in the shower and now i’m obsessed with it.  i hope you like it as much as i do!
Tumblr media
He’s a sucker.  That’s what you think of him, despite the fact you’ve never met him.  It’d be impossible not to, given what you’ve heard.
His girlfriend - or something - is in every other week, flashing his black card like she has something to prove.  Sometimes, she’s by herself;  often, she’s with another gaggle of girls that fawn all over themselves and shriek a little too loudly for your taste.  They’re vapid, snooty in a way that makes you cringe every time they step into the boutique.  Still, you’re nice because this is your job and you have to be.  You can’t exactly tell a paying customer to get lost - even if you think it at least six times each visit.
“He has no idea.”  It’s always the same thing, a story that pulls at your heartstrings yet has you scoffing in equal parts.  “I told him we were doing a girls’ trip but Hyunjin’s going to meet me on his way back and we’re spending the week at the Ritz.”
How can he possibly be this dumb, you wonder.  How can’t he see past the pretty pink lipstick and perfectly coiffed blonde hair?  It isn’t even that nice of a colour job - too icy and reminiscent of Malibu Barbie.
(She’d bragged about it once - how she’d gotten an appointment at one of the most coveted salons in the city, spending hours in the stylist’s chair to get this “perfect shade”.  Her words, not yours.)
You figure he must be some lonely schmuck, some poor old sap who can’t possibly get what he’s looking for anywhere else.  Maybe he had some weird spoiling kink - if so, where was your man like that - or he just wanted companionship and found it in the arms of girls who paid him any sort of attention.  Truthfully, you thought a lot of things about him.  Kind of had to, given how often his girlfriend was in, rambling about her exploits and snickering behind his back.
You’d never expected him to be like this.
Tumblr media
Jeon Jungkook shows up on a Sunday afternoon, shortly after lunch and with the dopiest smile on his face.
Your colleague notices him first, nudging you to attention because you, unlike her, actually do productive things while you’re at work, like go through layaways and make sure items aren’t sitting in the back for months and months.
“He’s cute,”  she really badly whispers, voice carrying because it always does.  She’s a younger girl - maybe a few years your junior, who’d gotten her job through pure nepotism - but she’s sweet enough.  Zero tact, though.  Never notices when she’s being just a little too forceful with her sales but her sweet smile and full rack seem to keep her from getting into any trouble.  You consider her a vaguely annoying sister, someone you love even when you don’t necessarily like her.
You glance up from the iPad balanced in your hands, disinterested.  “Who?”
There’s an older couple striding past the entrance, hand-in-hand with three Hermes bags.  (God, what awful taste.)  There’s another couple standing at the mouth of the Louis Vuitton boutique, bickering about which belt will best match the boyfriend’s tux best.  (The answer is neither, because those belts do not belong with a classic black tux.)
“Him.”
Yejin all but points at him, jerking her chin in his direction.  You don’t know how you hadn’t really clocked him in the first place.  Maybe because he’s so unassuming that you’d just brushed over him, noting his outfit before moving on.  When you look at him - really look at him - you can’t look away.
You think he’s handsome in that off-kilter kind of way, too-big teeth and too-wide eyes.  He’s terribly innocent looking, despite the fact that he’s wearing a gleaming gold Rolex and sleek black boots you recognise from Prada’s 2019 RTW.  Everything he wears is tailored, fitting him well to the point you wonder who his seamstress  is.
But then he speaks, and it’s not the suave, sultry voice you’d expect.  It’s featherlight and almost shy, bashful in its delivery.
“I’m here to pick up a bag for my girlfriend?”  He upspeaks.  It’s stupidly adorable.
Bless her soul, Yejin throws a glance in your direction first.  A silent ‘yours or mine?’ that’s answered when you step forward, blindingly bright customer service smile in full effect.  “What’s the item and the name it’s under?”  You keep in mind he’s said girlfriend very clearly, even as you can’t help but trail your stare over his shoulders, the dimple that digs itself into his cheek when he speaks again.
“Oh, it’s under mine.  Jungkook. Jeon Jungkook.”
You’re floored.  This is Jeon Jungkook?  This specimen draped in leather and fine Japanese silk is the poor idiot that’s wrapped around Barbie’s finger?  You’ve got to be kidding.
You wonder whether the surprise is evident on your face.  It must be, given how quickly Yejin interrupts, piping up in that saccharine sweet voice of hers.  “I’ll grab it!  The Box bag in cloud, right?”
Jungkook can only nod dumbly.  He has no idea what he’s there to pick up - only that he needs to because his girlfriend is away on a trip with her two best female friends.  He tells you as much, chuckling at his own ignorance.  It’d be cute if it weren’t so sad, his eyes twinkling like the jewels set in your ears.  There’s so much love in his eyes it’s frankly sickening.
It comes before you can help it, snapping off your tongue - an oil spill ready to drag him to the depths of hell.
“Oh - you’re Kiko’s boyfriend?  I thought you’d left for Hong Kong already.”  Your head tilts - the picture of innocence as you continue to spew things you shouldn’t, staining the innocence of his expression with each word that drops off.  “She said she was leaving on Friday.”  Even while you’re tearing this poor man’s life apart, you’re racking your brain for the off-handed comments she’d made.  “She kept going on and on about how she was so excited to be staying at the Ritz.”
It’s almost like you gain some sick sort of satisfaction in watching his face fall.  You’ve never seen someone crumble so quickly, every ounce of affection swept up and spat out in the time it takes you to take a solid, proper breath.
You do feel bad.  Not for saying it, but for being the person to do this.  For hurting this stranger.  (At least he knew?)
“I think you have me mistaken for someone else.”  Gone is the sunny friendliness, the blissful geniality.  He’s very much uncertain, bunny teeth digging into the full swell of his bottom lip.  He’s pigeon-toed and round-shouldered, thick brows drawn neatly over his stare as he focuses on some indeterminate point somewhere by his feet.

Let's Keep Dancing On the Broken Glass
Dukeceit Week Day 1: Anniversary/Birthday
Remus is bored at work, and can’t help but gaze longingly across the bar at Cute Blonde. And can’t help but also notice the random douchebag who won’t take no for an answer.

Warnings: Alcohol mention, generally creepy behavior from a random bar patron.

Remus could make a Cosmopolitan in his sleep. Seriously. He was on number thirty-two for the evening, and he still had a couple hours left to last call. So he was pretty sure the involuntary eye roll when Douchebag #4 ordered said Cosmopolitan was perfectly warranted.
(Besides, the guy had been here all night and hadn’t tipped once. He could get over himself.)
“Enjoy,” Remus said when it was done, handing it over with his best fake customer service smile. The guy took it, didn’t tip- again- and stalked off.
It was a Friday night, so Mindscape was bustling. They certainly weren’t the busiest spot in town, but their reputation as “the local queer bar who will gladly toss a homophobe out on their ass,” a reputation well-earned, garnered them a healthy amount of traffic.
But, as Douchebag #4 took his dumb Cosmo and wandered off, Remus found himself a moment’s reprieve from the steady onslaught of customers. He let his gaze trail across the crowd, and the myriad of different types of people here. He liked to people-watch; if he was incredibly bored at work, he liked to make up stories about the people he saw. He’d guess at their lives, their jobs, what occasions they might be at the bar to celebrate- or to try and forget. And, if he was especially bored, he liked to ask those people and see how close his stories were to reality.
Douchebag #4 was here with his friends, Douchebags #1 through #3, so Remus was a little surprised to see him head towards the back of the bar instead of their table. Remus tracked his path with idle curiosity until he realized which table he was going to.
It was Cute Blond’s table, as Remus had dubbed it because, well, of the cute blond. There were others too- a young guy who dressed like a dad, a jeans-and-polo nerd, and a mid-2000s emo- but Remus liked Cute Blond best. It was somebody’s birthday, though Remus hadn’t figured out who; but despite the event it was the quietest and most polite table of the night, with the four of them chatting amicably over the occasional round of drinks.
They all glanced over as Douchebag #4 approached and made his way over to Cute Blond. They were way too far away for Remus to hear what was being said over the din of the music and other patrons, but he didn’t miss how Cute Blond’s easy smile turned brittle when the Cosmopolitan was offered. He shook his head, a clear dismissal- because obviously Douchebag #4 didn’t have a shot in hell with Cute Blond, Remus thought proudly.
Douchebag #4 didn’t take the hint, though. He stepped closer into Cute Blond’s space, which made the whole table also move closer, almost defensively. Douchebag #4 said something. Emo Guy snapped something in response. Cute Blond put up a hand and, whatever he said, it was enough to make Douchebag #4 back off with a huff. But not before setting the Cosmo down on the table.
Remus relaxed a bit as Douchebag #4 made his way back to his own table. Remus was not above throwing someone like that out, but Roman made him fill out an incident report every time he did, and paperwork was just below homophobia on his list of things he hated. So he didn’t. But Cute Blond’s table still looked a bit ruffled, so Remus stepped away from the bar and made his way over.
“Virgil, really. It’s fine,” Cute Blond was saying and god what a voice.
“It’s not fine-” Emo Guy started, but he broke off abruptly when Remus approached.
“Hey,” Remus said awkwardly. Cute Blond turned to look at him, and Remus was momentarily distracted by his mismatched eyes. And his freckles. He had freckles.
“...Yes?” Cute Blond prompted.
“Oh. Uh.” Why did he come over here? Oh, right. Remus gestured to the Cosmo, sat ignored at the edge of the table. “I can clear that for you, if you want. I’m guessing no one wants it?”
Cute Blond’s eyes softened, though Emo Guy was still eyeing him suspiciously. Cute Blond slid the glass across the table toward Remus.
“Thank you,” he said. “You guessed correctly.”
“Let me know if he bothers you guys again, alright?”
“I doubt that will be necessary,” Cute Blond replied, with a glance toward Emo Guy. Looking back to Remus, he added, “But thank you.”
Remus really didn’t know what to say to that, so he just gave a hurried, “Yeah, sure thing,” in response, grabbed the unwanted Cosmo, and retreated back to the bar.
He hoped that might be the end of it. He served some more customers. He switched the music to something more chill and moody to wind down the evening as the clock turned over from midnight to 1 a.m. And when Douchebag #4 appeared at the bar again, he tried not to grimace.
“Cosmopolitan, but send it to that table, from me.”
Remus didn’t even have to follow his gesture to know he was pointing to Cute Blond’s table.
“I don’t think he’s interested, man,” Remus sighed.
“I didn’t ask your opinion, just make the damn drink,” Douchebag #4 snapped. And, well. That was just the wrong move entirely, bud.
“Hm, you know what, I think you’ve had too much tonight,” Remus said with a grin. “I think I’d better cut you off. For your own health.”
“Excuse me?”
Remus shrugged. “We could lose our liquor license if you end up at the hospital with alcohol poisoning. Best stay on the safe side, y’know?”
“Oh, fuck you.” Douchebag #4 whipped around and stalked back to his table. Remus tried not to feel too smug.
And failed.
The night wore on. Eventually, as 2 a.m. loomed, Remus switched off the music to announce last call. And in between the flow of people ordering their last drinks or closing tabs, Remus caught sight of a familiar flash of blond hair through the small crowd, as Cute Blond made his way toward the restrooms. Which was probably a weird thing for Remus to notice, but the guy was cute, sue him.
But what also caught his attention was the other familiar face, trailing some distance behind, heading in the same direction. Remus frowned. Douchebag #4 followed Cute Blond into the restroom. Alone.
Now, Remus had worked as a bartender since he was 18. He knew by now to trust his instincts. And right now, his instincts were saying that guy was bad fucking news.
“Here, you’re all set.” Remus handed the credit card and receipt back to the customer he’d been helping. To the guy next in line, he said, “Sorry, I’ll be right back.” And then he power-walked to the restroom.
He pushed the door open quietly and immediately heard Cute Blond’s sharp voice.
“I thought I made myself perfectly clear-”
“C’mon, don’t be such a prude.”
“I’m- hey, get your hands off me-”
Remus came around the corner quickly, just as Douchebag #4 grabbed Cute Blond’s wrists and crowded him back against the wall. The creep looked like he was going to say something more, but whatever it was, they never got to hear it; because that was the moment Remus’ fist met his face.
-
It was a rare night off for Remus, and yet here he was, at Mindscape, as always.
At least this time, instead of watching from afar, he was sitting at Cute Blond’s table. And Cute Blond was sitting in his lap.
“Gosh, I haven’t been here since your birthday, Janus,” Patton was saying. “Is the air hockey table new?”
Remus grinned. “Yeah! Finally talked Roman into it.”
Janus chuckled, and settled himself more comfortably against Remus’ chest. “Mostly I just come here for the cute bartender.”
Remus cast a look to where Roman was tending the bar, and looked back to Janus with an expression of mock-outrage. “Who? Roman? Jannie, hate to break it to you, but he’s taken.”
“Yeah, he is,” Virgil growled. Next to him, Logan rolled his eyes.
“Shame,” Janus sighed dramatically. “Guess I’ll have to settle for the one who punched a creep for me.”
Remus grinned. “I’d do it again in a heartbeat,” he said. And he leaned down and kissed his Cute Blond.

Chapter 4
Hearts on Three (Satan x Reader)
The athlete and the nerd. The rich kid and the scholarship student. The girl who will constantly joke about breaking your knee caps and the boy who will actually do it. There are so many ways to describe your relationship with Satan. Too many, if you’re being honest. He’s your best friend. The smartest tutor you’ve ever had. He also spends thousands of dollars for you at the drop of a hat and holds your hand when you’re feeling down. And in the beginning, that's okay. Neither of you let yourselves get bogged down by labels, both of you content to just savor this newfound friendship. But deeper feelings always have a way of complicating things. And for better or for worse, you and Satan are no exception.

MASTERLIST
“Bro, you good?”
Satan blinks the sleep from his eyes at the feeling of a pencil tapping against his shoulder, groggily turning to face the owner of the voice that tore him from his precious slumber.
“...bwha?” is the educated response Satan can come up with in his sleep-addled mind.
Solomon snorts.
“Dude, this is the third time you’ve fallen asleep in class this week.” The white-haired athlete grins. “Keep this up and I’m gonna score better than you on tomorrow’s test.”
“We have a…”
Satan groans inwardly. He has a test tomorrow? The blonde blinks up at the board. It takes a second for his vision to clear, but then it registers that he’s in math class, and everything else falls into place. A quick scan over the whiteboard confirms that Satan didn’t miss anything important, that the chapter the teacher is covering is something Satan taught himself roughly two years back, but the boy still groans to himself in frustration. He doesn’t like to sleep through class. Ever.
“Thanks for waking me up,” Satan mumbles to his friend when he glances at the clock. It seems that Solomon let him doze for nearly the entire period, opting to wake him up a mere minute before the bell should ring.
“No problem. But seriously, I’ve never seen you slack this hard. You good?”
“I’m fine. I’m just tired because…” Satan trails off, hesitant to confess that the reason he’s so exhausted is because of you. No doubt, Solomon would read way too deeply into that—nope, wait, it looks like Solomon figured it out on his own from the shit-eating grin he’s now sporting.
“Ah, your future girlfriend, is it?” Solomon leans back in his chair, grinning. “The love life is rough, buddy. Make sure you’re using protection at night, though.”
Satan has never been more relieved to hear a bell ring.
“Would you lower your voice?” He growls when a couple of kids passing by give him weird looks. Satan glares hard at Solomon, but the latter gives a grand total of zero (0) shits.
“Sorry,” Solomon says in a voice that makes it all too clear that he’s not sorry.
Satan has never hated his schedule more than in the next moment when he realizes that Solomon is in his next class and that they can’t split ways. Worse yet, it’s Physical Education—the stupidest course of all time because all it consists of is kids walking in circles for an entire hour and being “encouraged” to run. And somehow, to top it off, Satan always ends up walking with Solomon.
“We’re not together,” Satan grunts to his friend when they’re outside doing laps around the track. “It’s just that it’s fucking hard to balance club duties, her volleyball schedule, and my own studies.”
“I totally get it,” Solomon blurts. “But you’ve gotta get used to it, bro. Imagine how much harder it’s gonna be to when the two of you start dating! You’ll have to take her out on dates, and—fuck—have you ever been to one of her games? She has crazy stamina, man. The two of you’ll be at it all night.”
Satan thinks back to freshman orientation, wondering why, of all the places to sit, he chose the seat next to the most annoying person in the entire academy.
“Solomon, can you shut the fuck up?”
Solomon, unsurprisingly, does not shut the fuck up.
With enough difficulty, Satan does finally manage to steer the topic away from Solomon’s matchmaking attempts and towards more normal topics. Namely, Satan’s matchmaking attempts. Of course, just as Satan places no weight on Solomon’s opinions on his love life, Solomon completely ignores Satan’s advice to stop beating around the bush and just ask Asmo out, the athlete having the nerve to say “I’ll ask Asmo out when you ask our volleyball captain out”—as if you and Satan have a remotely similar history to Asmo and Solomon, who, as now known by the entire campus, are both desperately pining for each other but are too dumb to see it.
Satan sighs, shaking his head.
Idiots, he thinks. I’m surrounded by idiots.
It’s to this thought that Satan hears someone calling his name in the distance: an extremely familiar voice, almost grating on the ears, but a voice he knows he should not be hearing.
Satan shakes his head, deciding that he’ll clear up his schedule today so he gets a nap in because surely, surely he must be imagining you calling his voice. Surely you’re not actually on this track field. Surely you’re not cutting English, of all courses, a subject that Satan insists you pay extra attention to because it’s the single course you're most likely to fail.
“Bro,” Solomon whispers, eyebrows raised in disbelief.
Satan closes his eyes, trying to see if pretending that he doesn’t hear your footsteps sprinting closer and closer towards him will make it so that they’re not real.
It doesn’t work.
“Satan!” You shriek, now close enough that he can’t pretend you’re a figment of his imagination anymore. “Satan! Satan, Satan, Satan!”
The blonde continues staring resolutely forward, committing himself to the ideology of I do not see it, therefore it is not happening.
Unfortunately, Satan sees it. And so it happens.
Without any warning whatsoever, you lurch forward and grapple on to Satan, wrapping your limbs around him like a literal koala as you yeet yourself onto him with enough force that Satan is just barely able to remain standing when you attach yourself to him while shrieking: ”Satan! Guess what, guess what!”
The blonde is at a loss for words, so dumbfounded and taken aback that it’s all he can do to sputter out a confused “w-what?”
You grin at him with a smile so wide it looks like it hurts, and Satan can only stare as you reveal what made you so happy.
“I got an 85 on the Shakespeare test!”
The Shakespeare test, the man thinks, trying to remember.
The Shakespeare test, he repeats in his mind, a vision of you cram-reading the final acts of King Lear flashing through his mind
The Shakespeare test! Satan realizes with a start, suddenly recalling how it was a test he expected you to fail.
Satan’s mouth drops open at that. He had been prepared for you to get a 20, a 30; the highest you told him to expect was a 60, and even that was below the fail margin, but an 85? Holy shit, Satan might cry if he got a grade like that, but for you, it’s a genuine accomplishment, and he’s fucking proud.
“You’re joking,” he blurts, already calculating how this will affect your average and, holy shit, it’s actually going to pull you up to a passing grade.
“I’m not!” you declare with so much happiness that it’s infectious, and then the two of you are hugging and laughing except that Satan’s literally carrying you so it’s awkward, but neither of you care because this is the highest grade you’ve pulled all year, and Satan is finally beginning to feel like the late hours and the sleepless nights are all worth it.
The two of you are grinning and beaming at each other even when you finally de-koala yourself from Satan and land on the ground; and it’s at this precise moment that Satan realizes just how many people are watching.
The blonde clears his throat awkwardly.
It felt so natural when you tackled Satan midair, but he’s now beginning to realize just how intimate that whole scene looked to any onlookers. He stiffens, and you seem to notice, your own demeanor turning sheepish in turn.
A low whistle from next to you diffuses the situation.
“An 85, huh?” Solomon slings an arm around your shoulder, sandwiching you between him and Satan as the three of you continue walking along the track field—effectively sending a message to anyone watching that the show is over. “Not bad, Captain, not bad.”
“It’s amazing, Solomon!” you cry out in turn, grinning as you lean into his shoulder. (Satan doesn’t feel weird when he sees that, he swears he doesn’t.) “I haven’t scored this high since, well, I dunno. I don’t really pay attention to the scores I get because they’re always so low!”
Solomon laughs at that, definitely remembering when he was the same way.
“It’s all thanks to Satan, no?” Solomon prods, and the blonde shoots a sharp look at his friend. He’s up to something. Satan isn’t sure if he wants to know what.
“Oh, definitely! He literally read every single text out loud to me! I left this one book for the very last day, and he actually stayed with me and—”
“You need to get back to class,” Satan swiftly interrupts, his ears turning red. “You did well on one test, but you need to pay attention if you want to continue.”
“Oh, but—”
Satan practically shoves you away, gesturing wildly the whole time with a vigor that has you confused but compliant as you slowly depart, doubtlessly making your way back to the English building as slowly as you possibly can.
When you’re gone, Solomon snorts.
“You read to her?” He asks, expression brimming with mirth.
“It’s not—it’s an effective studying technique that we use to save time—”
“Oh my god,” Solomon mumbles under his breath, wiping a tear of mirth from his eye. “Next thing you know, I’ll find out that she’s sleeping on your shoulder or something. Seriously, Satan, way to make a move early on.”
Satan is incredibly grateful that Solomon doesn’t see how his face changes at that part, a flush rising on his cheeks when he realizes that you’ve fallen asleep on his shoulder not once, now, but several times.
“Shut up,” Satan grumbles, trying to end the conversation as quickly as possible.
“No way, man!” Solomon cackles with laughter, finding great amusement in his friend’s frustration. “Oh my god, the two of you are so perfect for each other that it hurts! Here, take a look at this—”
Solomon pulls up his phone and opens up his Photo Gallery, swiping twice before handing it over to Satan.
“Just look at that, dude—” he gestures vaguely at the picture. “You two already look like you’re dating.”
Satan stares at the image, his feet slowing down. It’s a picture of you and Satan hugging, taken conveniently when you were still koala-ing Satan with your entire body because of course Solomon was able to get a picture that quickly, and although Satan can’t see either of your faces due to the side angle, even he has to acknowledge that the two of you really do look like a couple.
“It’s not like that,” Satan mumbles, shaking his head as he hands the phone back to Solomon.
This might be the first time, though, that he actually entertains the thought of what it would be if it was like that.
It’s not a terrible thought.
Tumblr media
You hate away-scrimmages for a lot of reasons.
The first reason is that, more often than not, the environment is hostile. The other team is always bound to have more support, more cheering, more motivation powering them forward while yours has nothing more than the girls on the bench and the loud voice of your coach.
The second reason is that they always feel like a waste of time. Scrimmages, by nature, are meant to be an extension of practice. So what’s the point of a scrimmage if you spend more time driving to the school than you spend playing against the school? It’s totally backwards, in your opinion, and pretty stupid.
The third reason is the most compelling reason, though. And it’s probably because this is the issue you’re dealing with right now: the fact that at away-scrimmages, if there does happen to be someone from your school who puts in the time and effort to come watch, the pressure on your shoulders instantly triples. Scrimmages are supposed to be fun, enjoyable. They’re nothing more than practice matches to collect data and get ready for when you’ll go against the school for real—but when people from your school travel such a long distance to watch you play not even a game but a scrimmage, it feels like you owe it to them to bring home a win, to succeed, to make the match worth their while.
And while Satan doubtlessly had no intentions of adding to your stress when he asked to watch you play at today's scrimmage, that’s exactly what has happened.
“Listen, girls,” your voice is low as your team groups up in what will likely be the last huddle of the match. “I want us to win this. Really badly. Do what it takes, but bring home that victory.” You take a moment to recite the weaknesses of the other team, trying to downplay their skill and build confidence in your own teammates, but ultimately, you all know the truth. “It all comes down to how we play this point, girls, so let’s play our best.”
You glance around at your teammates, stealing a glance at the bleachers where Satan sits, watching the scrimmage.
You want to make him proud.
“Wolves on three: one, two, three—”
“Wolves!” your teammates echo, raising their fists as the lot of you split off into your serve receive positions.
As it stands, match point is weighing against you, and your team is at a heavy disadvantage. From what you’ve gathered on the opposing team, their libero is a literal legend when it comes to front row saves, and they have an amazing right-side hitter, one that easily rivals your own skill. This entire game, their team has been leading, but all your team needs to secure victory is a measly three points, three points that you know you can obtain if you try hard enough.
You crouch low, getting ready for the opposing team’s serve.
The first two points are easy for your team to get: the first point comes when the opposing team’s outside hitter rams the ball into the net, and the second comes when your team's right-side hitter manages a clean hit through a line of defense that jumped a second too late.
The final point, as always, is the hardest to get.
It just so happens that it’s your serve, so you consciously aim at what you think is the weakest link in the opposing team, but they’re able to recover. From then on, it’s an intense volley back and forth until it’s just you versus the right-side hitter, #18, the two of you fighting it out in a rhythmic contest of pass-set-hit that just won’t end.
It’s at this time that you feel the pressure beating down on you heavier than ever before. More than anything, you want to win. Not just because you’re naturally competitive, not just because you really fucking hate #18 right now (seriously, what business does she have being as good as you?), but because you know that Satan is watching.
You really, really, really want to bring home a win for him.
It’s to this thought that you set the ball over on the first touch, sabotaging the flow of the game and ruining the other team’s momentum.
It happens in slow motion as the ball falls, slowly, slowly.
The entire room seems to hold its breath as three girls on the opposing team, #18 included, all pancake-dive for the ball. Sensing their success, you bend your knees, preparing for the ball’s return.
It never comes.
The blow of the ref’s whistle is surreal, almost as faraway as the subsequent cheers of your own team, so empty and distant as they instantly group up for a team tackle—but for the first time, you don’t join them.
Instead, you’re left staring up at Satan who, from his spot on the bleachers, is grinning down at you with a proud look on his face.
You don’t think you’ve ever been so happy to win a scrimmage.
Everything else passes by in a blur. Your team regroups and changes out of your uniforms, and the lot of you board the bus that’s set to bring you back to the Royal Academy of Barbatos.
You, however, stay back.
“I’ll get a ride from my tutor,” you tell your coach, bidding farewell to your friends.
The man arches an eyebrow at you, asking once and then twice if you’re certain you don’t want to stay with the team, but you nod your head.
Weird, you think as you go to find Satan, who’s waiting for you at his car. This must be the first time I’ve prioritized someone else over the team.
You decide not to dwell on that thought.
Instead, you choose to think about how sick Satan’s ride is.
“Oh my god,” you mumble, gawking as soon as you see the car. “Satan, I knew you were loaded, but I had no clue you were this loaded.”
Satan laughs at your reaction, grinning when you can do nothing but stand and stare at the sheer beauty of it: a slick, black Bugatti with a single green stripe down the middle.
“Oh, it’s beautiful,” you coo, marveling at the interior when you slide into the passenger seat and slug your volleyball bag unceremoniously in the back. “Satan, I think I like this car better than I like you.”
The blonde gives a short laugh, rolling his eyes as he gets inside next to you. “I’ll let you drive it someday,” he offers.
You’re quick to decline, shuddering to think about how many more sports scholarships you’d need to ever pay such a thing off if you were to crash it.
Satan can only smile at that, mumbling something under his breath that you can’t hear.
“Your match was amazing, by the way,” he says before you can probe him about what he said. “It looked really intense. It’s impressive that you were able to keep a level head even at the end.”
You don’t tell Satan that your head wasn’t level, that you were practically dizzy with fear from the possibility of losing in front of him.
“It comes with practice,” you instead choose to say. “Something we’ve gotta do tonight!”
“Please tell me you’re joking.”
You shoot Satan an innocent smile in response.
“Your match lasted a good hour, and I saw you practicing with your team before your bus left.” Satan shakes his head, a frown beginning to spread across his lips. “You’re going to destroy your muscles if you try to do any more. Even you need to rest.”
“Yeah, but resting is boring.” You lean back in your seat and stare at your palms. “Besides, that scrimmage was way too close for comfort. Didn’t you see number eighteen? She was, like, really good. If both our teams make it to the state tournament, we’re going to have a lot of trouble dealing with her unless we practice like crazy until then.”
“Exactly,” Satan says. “Your team needs to practice, not you. The best thing you can do for them is relax and make sure you don’t overexert yourself.”
“But don't you want to reward me for getting a good grade on my Shakespeare test?” A smile curls onto your lips because you know that's something Satan has been thinking about. “Come on, just a few balls? It’ll be quick, I promise. I just want to try a few moves out.”
Satan lets out an exasperated sigh that lets you know he’s agreeing.
“Yes!” You exclaim, resisting the urge to jump out of your seat and hug him because he probably won't be as inclined to help you if you make him crash his car. “Thank you so much, Satan! I won’t be long, I promise!”
The blonde doesn’t say anything to that, sighing softly as he switches his destination from the student parking lot to the on-campus gym you usually conduct your practice sessions in. It takes a while, but when the two of you get there, the spot Satan pulls into is far from the doors. It's a necessity since all the other spots are taken, but it makes you raise an eyebrow because this is the first time you’ve seen this gym even remotely filled up.
You nudge Satan out of his car regardless.
“Alright, so today I want you to make my tosses higher than normal. Number eighteen was taller than me, so I’ll need to increase my jump height if I want to be able to break past her defense.” You pull him to the door, wasting no time to get inside. “And don’t worry if your tosses aren’t perfect! It’ll be good practice for...for when…”
Your train of thought is disrupted when you see how packed the gym is.
“Damn,” Satan mumbles next to you, frowning.
There must be some kind of athletic event coming up. That's the only explanation you can think of for the picture in front of you. As it stands, there are tons of students inside this gym, everyone practicing their own sport. It’s ridiculous, honestly, because even sports that are traditionally outdoors are practicing inside. You can see Solomon leading his soccer team through a few drills on the far side of the court, taking up one half of one of the six nets set up in the gym.
“They must be here because it’s so muddy outside. All the outdoor sports are practicing inside.” Satan crosses his arms. “Let’s come back tomorrow. You’re not going to be able to get an effective practice in.”
“No!” you immediately exclaim, if only because you see a group of people setting up to leave. “Look, we can take that side of the court. Let’s go! I don’t want someone else to get there first.”
It’s a bit harder to find a spare cart of volleyballs than it was to find a spot to practice, but after checking enough supply rooms, you finally find what you’re looking for. After that, it takes you all of two minutes to wheel the cart over to Satan where you present your findings to him proudly.
“Shouldn’t you stretch first?” He frowns. “I don’t want you to get injured.”
“Come on, Satan. I just came back from a match! My muscles are all loosened up, so let’s get straight into it! The faster we can get this done, the faster we can return to the dorm, so let’s hurry!”
The boy doesn’t look wholly convinced, but he acquiesces to your request nonetheless, throwing you a toss higher than usual as you jump to slam it down.
It’s only once the two of you have returned to your usual rhythm that you begin to feel the stretch in your thighs, and for a moment, you stop to consider the fact that it might have been better if you’d stretched after all, but you ultimately decide that you’ve already started so there’s no point in stopping.
The practice whizzes by, as usual. It's almost pitiful how quickly the end of it nears.
“Three more balls,” Satan says, glancing at the number of balls left in the cart. “Then we go back, alright?”
“Sure thing!” you exclaim with pride, the familiar sense of satisfaction after a practice session well-done setting in.
Satan tosses you the third-last ball, and your feet begin following it as soon as it leaves his fingers. Your feet follow a familiar pattern—left, right, left, jump!—and you force yourself to put in a little bit of extra power to increase the height of your jump, letting your palm collide with the ball just a few inches beneath the peak of the arc to let it slam onto the court at an angle so steep that even a reinforced defense wouldn’t have been able to save it.
“Perfect!” you shout the moment your feet land on the floor. “Two more like that, and we’re set!”
Even Satan can’t hold off a smile at that.
Already in-tune with you, he doesn’t bother asking if you’re ready before throwing the next ball into the air.
Again, you go through the motions that have been ingrained into your muscle memory since you were eight years old. The sting of pain against your palm is familiar, too familiar, and you’re still high in your jump when the ball spikes down onto the floor.
What isn’t familiar is the immediate calls of concern from across the court.
Everything seems to happen in slow motion.
You turn your head to the source of the noise, the loud group of soccer players who are on the far side of the gym and are all shouting to watch out. You stare at them in confusion for a moment, squinting to look for what they're all pointing at, because right now you don’t see anything to watch out for, and why—
Your eyebrows furrow.
Why are they all looking at you?
That thought is the only warning you get before your feet land—and the first thing you realize is that you landed way too early, that you should have been in the air for longer given the height of your jump. That’s when you realize that you haven’t landed, that your foot is instead twisting on top of a soccer ball that’s rolled directly underneath you.
Your hands go out to catch yourself when you fall, but there’s nothing you can do about the swell of pain that bursts from your ankle when the soccer ball pops out from underneath you.
There’s a moment of trepidation, a single second where your body is completely suspended in the air, and the gym is silent.
In that quiet moment, you hear Satan call out your name in a terrified voice.
Then, the ground collides with you and hard, and there’s nothing you can do as the pain you’d been feeling earlier blossoms out from all parts of your body.

Dr.Reyes walked Y/n down the hall towards one of the concrete rooms. The sound of her shoes echoed along the halls. Dr.Reyes opened the door and gestured her in "here is your room, for now. You have some clothes on the bed with some toilet trees." Dr.Reyes said with a small smile, y/n walked into the room "What now, doctor?" y/n chuckled, she looked around. The room was slightly cold "Were going to monitor you. Make sure you don't lose control of your mutation." Reyes stated and y/n turned around and looked at her. Reyes closed the door closed with a slight slam.
Y/n POV
I looked around the room, a few outfits sat on the green-colored bed 'I wonder what there's do around here.' i thought before I laughed "probably nothing but good girls.' and got changed.
I grabbed a pair of dark jeans and a black hoodie with a pair of slip-on shoes that were placed in the corner of the room. I fixed my hair and exited the room. The facility was big but not like a hospital. I walked to the end of the hall and took a left. I walked passed an open door and heard Reyes talking ' i guess this is the room?' and looked through the door slightly, 2 boys and 3 girls. They were sat in a half-circle on yoga mats.
"I'm not going to that, no way." I thought to myself and walked down the hall towards the exit/ entrance of this building. Reyes told me some directions but not a lot. I'll have to ask one of the people here. I walked up to the door and pushed on it, it didn't budge. I pushed it again still nothing "Open please." I yelled out to no one in particular. I heard the lock to the door open "well then..." and pushed open and walked outside. There was a church and then the main building with a fountain in the middle.
The gate was open, but you can tell there's a field around this place you can feel it. I walked towards the church, seeing a giant clock on the top "Could see I can break it and sit up there. That might be fun." I said out loud, see that there isn't anything to do here. I walked in the church and up the stairs to my right. The steel stairs shook a little as I walked up to them. I got to the top and climbed over the rail to get the clock platform.
I knocked on the wood, something my grandfather taught me to see if the wood was rotten or not. The wood sounded hollow, I kicked it and the bottom cracked. I started pulling out 2 pieces of the wood, just big enough for me to sit in and not get splinters.
I looked out of the clock tower, a concrete block sat in the middle of an old-looking basketball court. It had a giant chain and harness on it "What the fuck?" I said and sat down, my feet dangling off the edge.
"I wonder where the road leads to? There no cars here." I thought to myself as I looked around some more. There was a giant field surrounding the facility, and then a treeline so ways back.
I saw the 2 brunettes from the meeting earlier walk out of the main building, they seemed to be laughing at something waling towards the church. The two girls looked up and saw me and pointed up "Hey what are you doing up there?!" she yelled up at me, it was faint but I could still hear her "I'm god! you?" I yelled back down laughing, swinging my feet.
"No your not. Come down before you get hurt." The girl in the blue sweater yelled and I signed, standing up and walking down the stairs. I opened the church's main door open and the 2 girls were standing in front of it a few feet away. I smirked "Wow, you guys are younger. How old are you." I chuckled, the 2 were probably about an inch shorter than me.
The girl with long hair laughed "Your not much older. were both 16." the girl in the blueish black sweater nodded "You guys are children, You guys should be in fucking school... Or in alleyway doing graffiti and dumb shit like me at 16... I'm not a good influence " I drew off "Oh I'm y/n, I'm 17 btw. So you're not that younger I guess..."
The blue sweater smiled "Rahne." and she held out her hand, I shock head "No no no, I don't shake hands. Not anymore." I said in an anxious tone "Danielle, May I ask why?" Danielle crossed her arms over her chest "You'll learn one day. Not now." I smirked, "So who else is here?" I asked looking around, the outside is empty "Well you've met me and Rahne. Then you have Roberto, his family sent him here to be cured, Then Illyana She's not so nice, and Sam he's nice." Danielle answered.
"Interesting. Well then" I signed "So what's there to do here? It looks pretty empty and dead..." I said looking at the dead bushes around the entrance of the main building.
"Not really, we have the church, a commons room with a TV, Foosball table, And a mini library. We also have a pool, that's it." Rahne said before Dani could. I clicked my tongue on the roof of my mouth "So what was that meeting room thing you guys were in? Do you guys do that every day?" I asked the girls looking around, maybe for another place to climb.
"Pretty much. Its like group therapy. Except we have to do to get out of here, you can not go but you'll get out much later than expected." Rahne replied 'she's one of the nice kids. Both of them are.' i thought to myself before looking at the "How long are we here for? 3 months or 3 years?"
Danielle and Rahne looked at each other "Umm, we don't know. Rahne's been here for about 3, I've been here for 2 months." Dani said quietly. I nodded slowly and clicked my tongue "Fucking great. Well, I'm going to go and maybe fuck around and break something. See you, girls." I saluted and walked away 'this is fucking great' I yelled in my head.

"Well then... She seems nice..." Danielle said as she watched Y/n walk away, Rahne smiled "Shes gonna get in trouble a lot... I can feel it." Dani nodded and the 2 walked to the field to hang out for the cool afternoon.
Y/n pushed the door open and bumped into someone "What the fuck. Watch it." A girl said from the other side, Y/n looked at her. The girl had long straight blonde hair and bangs "You watch it bitch. You're not scary." Y/n flipped her off and walked off laughing.
Illyana turned around and watched the girl walk away with her middle finger up "Bitch." and Went outside to tag the fountain or the back of the brick building.
Y/n took some turns before being called from down the hall "Y/n!" Reyes yelled to the girl and she turned around "Yeees" she drew out as the women walked closer. Reyes looked at her with a brow raised "Where were you this morning? I haven't been able to find you all day. You know you have to check in with me." the Doctor said in a stern voice. Y/n laughed "I was outside, duh. You have cameras all over and you couldn't find me?" She mocked "That's bullshit, Doctor and you know that."
Reyes signed "Am I going to have to assign you, someone, to walk you everywhere? Y/n." Y/n scoffed and looked at the women "What?" Reyes repeated herself s "Am I going to have to assign someone to watch you during the day?" Reyes put her hands in her pockets "Haha, ill just lock them in a room and leave." Reyes nodded and wrote something down on a note pad from her pocket "We will see about that, Mrs. L/n. But for now, you are confident for the rest of the night. My superiors believe you should not be out alone for now."
Y/n grinned "For what? hurting your feelings?" she mocked in a childish tone of voice, y/n laughed at Reye's facial expression "While you are here, you listen to me. okay, I am in charge here. Not you." Reyes asserted, glancing  up into Y/ns eyes  "Oh yeah?" Y/n said looking down at the doctor slightly getting close to her face "I've controlled people way stronger and bigger than you. You don't scare me, doctor. You're weak." Y/n had a devilish smirk on her face, one that could make a grown man cry.
"Confinement now. Sedation or free will. You choose, Y/n."  The Doctor said in a steady voice, y/n still close to her.
Y/n scoffed "Fine." and stepped back, The doctor let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. The doctor nodded and stood behind the girl as she walked down the hall towards the concrete rooms"Lockdown, off." Reyes said and the gate opened up, and so did the doors.
Y/n pushed opened her assigned room and looked at the doctor "bye-bye." she teased and waved her fingers at the doctor. Reyes closed the door with a slam. Closing the opening on the top of the door.
Reyes turned from the door and walked down the hall, to go to her office and the camera room to check on the other mutants "Doctor Reyes!" Was heard from down the other hall, Reyes turned towards the voice, Rahne and Dani jogged towards her.
"Yess girls?" she asked as the girls got closer, putting her hands in her pockets "Why did we just go into lockdown? is everything alright?" Rahne asked Reyes cleared her throat and thought for a second "Yes, everything is fine. Just a glitch..." she said was a gentle smile, trying to keep what just happened a secret "Oh, okay." Rahne nodded "Oh do you know where, umm what her name. Y/n is? we've been looking for her." Dani asked, Reyes, nodded slightly "Yes, umm. She just got done with the test. She in her room. She is to not be bothered for the rest of the night. Sorry girls."
Rahne and Dani nodded and Reyes walked away. Rahne and Dani watch the women walk away, and turn down the long hall.
Y/n POV
I kicked the bottom of the door and walked towards the bed and sat down. The room was cold and the light flickered. I  laughed at the situation and fell back onto the hard bed under me "What the fuck!" I yelled looking at the peeling ceiling. I looked at the camera in the corner "Hello, doctor." I waved at the camera which had a red light now "I'm just gonna go to bed, I guess," I said with a yawn and turned away from the camera.
Next day
"It's 8:30, please start to get ready for the day. A required meeting is at 10:30. Everyone should be there." I heard Reyes talk from the speaker, I groaned and heard the speaker connected tot he camera in my room crack "Ill be there in 10 minutes to bring you to my office You'll be with me today until group." I herd Reyes say and sat up "you're kidding me... Am not a fucking kid!" I yelled and changed into a pair of ripped jeans and a long sleeve shirt, I tucked it into my jeans and put on the slide on sneakers I was wearing yesterday.
I fixed my hair and waited for Reyes to come down. A few minutes passed before I heard the lock to the door open and the door opened "Good morning, how did  you sleep?" Reyes asked me as I exited the room and closed the door behind me "Fine, Can I go to the bathroom?" I asked as we walked down the hall, Reyes nodded and we walked to the bathroom. Reyes stayed outside while I took my time. I do not want to be with these women today.
A few minutes later I exited the bathroom and Reyes mentioned down the hall. We walked to her office in silence. She opened the door I walked in "Why am I here?" I asked as I fell into the couch in front of her desk. She sat in her desk chair and looked up "Because of the incident yesterday. I am going to watch you for the first half of today, until the group. Then I am going to put you with one of the trusted mutants to watch you until I believe you can roam free. Do you understand?"
I looked at her "Who is it that gets to watch me?" I questioned looking at the bookcases around the room, She stopped typing on her computer and looked up "Sam Guthrie. He has agreed to be your, so-called 'keeper'. He will keep you calm and out of trouble, like yesterday you got into a small conflict with Illyana." she stated and looked again at her computer and started typing.
I sighed and leaned back on the couch, The room was light up by a lamp on her desk. The bookcases were filled with books and random Items, I guess from her higher-ups. The room also had file cabinets along one wall 'probably all of the other mutants that have come and go. Mines probably in there as well with the others...I'll have to get my hands on it.' I thought to myself.
The sound of typing and page-flipping were heard through the room. The woman was very focused on her work. Only leaving the room to go across the hall to check on cameras. An hour passed and it was time for the group. Reyes and I walked to the room, as Reyes ha to set up.
"You can sit there." Reyes pointed to the seat closest to the door and her, I rolled my eyes and dropped into the wooden chair. The room was filled with different types of Items, like yoga mats and an easel for painting.
The mutants all came at once like they had a meeting before coming, I waved to Dani and Rahne. Dani raised a brow "Why are you here so early?" she asked in a quiet tone as she walked to her seat, I gestured to Reyes and rolled my eyes. Rahne shook her head and took a seat, Reyes looked at the room "Hello, how is everyone?" She asked and took out her clipboard.
Good was muttered around the room "Whos the new girl?" the boy across from me asked, looking me up and down. Reyes nodded and gestured towards me "This is Y/n L/n. She came in 3 days ago." I waved and looked around.
The blonde from yesterday, who was holding a purple puppet glaring at me. I smiled at her and she rolled her eyes. There was also a boy right next to me, he had a cast and sleeve on and a grey sweatshirt with a hat.
"Why haven't we seen her ?" the guy  from across the room asked, Reyes, cleared her throat "Because Roberto, she is..." The woman thought for a second "She is more troublesome than my superiors anticipated." I chuckled and leaned back "Oh my."
"Y/n, why don't you introduce yourself? same to the rest of you." Reyes asked pointing her clipboard towards me, I sat up and pulled the sleeves of my shirt over my hands " I'm y/n, as you know... I'm here because I can control people like 'puppets' and drive them insane. Close to killing themselves... insane." I said in a quiet tone "Also, I'm here because I'm just fucking trouble."
Reyes looked over at me "Language, Y/n. Now everyone else introduces yourself." The room went quiet and Dani spoke up "Well you know me and Rahen." Dani said with a smile. Roberto looked up "I'm Roberto." I shook my head and looked at the blonde "Show and tell, sweetheart. What's your name."
The blonde looked at me and smiled "Your nightmare" I laughed, and took a deep breath "You're like a chihuahua. All bark and no bite. I asked for your name, not your coping mechanism." She gasped and gripped the purple dragon puppet "Her name is Illyana." The boy next to Me answered, I took a dramatic breath "Wow, The chihuahua couldn't talk for herself. Thank you 'Luck Combs." I heard him huff.
I heard a chuckled from across the room, it was Dani "Now, Mr.country. What is your name?" I said turning in my seat facing him 'Imma annoy the shit out of him. he seems fun.' He sighed and fixed his hat "My name is Sam." I nodded and gave a soft smile before turning back around facing Reyes with the most annoying smile I can.
"Now that everyone has introduced themselves. Were going to talk about the incident that leads us into where we are now."I rolled my eyes and zoned out, Already knowing 3 out of 5 incidents.
3rd person
"I killed 18 men." Y/n heard Illyana making her zone back in, "What else?" Reyes asked the girl "I killed them with my sword and Lockheed." She smirked with a strong voice. Reyes wrote down some notes and looked at the same "Sam what about you?" Y/n focused her attention on him, still looking at the floor. Sam shuffled in his seat "I got claustrophobic." y/n shifted in her seat a little, wanting to be able to hear him better "I... Freaked out, and blasted. Killing my dad and his team."
"Oh, shit..." Y/n muttered putting her hand on her face. Sam looked at her and then back at the floor "Y/n, why don't you share?"  Reyes asked the girl, y/n shook her head "No thanks." Reyes nodded and wrote down something on her page. A few more minutes went by before the meeting was over.
"Well, that wraps up today's meeting. Y/n and Sam, please stay behind for a moment. Everyone may leave, you're free for the day." Reyes stated and the room stood up, Y/n and sam stayed in their seats. Once the 4 left Reyes close the door "What is it? gonna lock me in a room again?" Y/n smirked standing up fixing her shirt.
"No, y/n. This is sam, the person I said volunteered to watch you?" Reyes said with a soft smile, Y/n pinched the bridge of her nose and turned towards sam "Well the aren't you lucky country boy." Reyes cleared her throat "Y/n. Be nice, this is your last chance." And with that Reyes left, probably going to her office or the camera room.
Sam stood up and fixed his sleeve "So what did you do? to you know, have to have someone to watch you?" sam asked as the two walked out of the room, Y/n chuckled "I threatened Reyes last night, told her that she was weak and that I've dealt with people stronger than her. I also got into a little conflict with Illyana the other day and apparently Reyes though it was a big deal."
The two turned the corner walking outside "What did you do to Illyana?" Sam questions, knowing that Illyana isn't hard to break. Y/n stopped walking and looked at him "I opened the door, I bumped into her. She told me to watch it, so I told her that she wasn't scared and flipped her off. That was it." Sam turned around and nodded slowly, rethinking his agreement with Dr.Reyes.
"Well then. Umm, I'm going to practice and your gonna stay out here on the wall, and try to not get in trouble?" Sam asked the girl I front on him, She smirked nodded"Fine, I can't promise though." and followed Sam to the concrete block. He took off his sweater and sleeve, Y/n watched to the church outside wall and stood against it. Sam hooked himself up and looked and y/n, she waved her hand to him and shook his head and prepared to blast off.
Y/n watched sam as he launched into the air, right when he did. Y/n ran into the church and up to the clock, the wood was replaced with a tarp which she held up and sat where she had on her first day. She watched Sam fly through the air, the bright orange light that followed him. Sam went around a few more times before he started going off track, he crashed into the ground and Y/n flinched as she heard the crash, sam flew back into the air and crashed into the concrete a few more times before stopping.
Y/n Jaw dropped as she watched the boy lay on the ground for a few seconds before standing back up "I thought I was messed up." she muttered to herself as sam Unbuckled  the harness from his torso and looked at the wall y/n was at before he blasted "Y/N!" Sam yelled for the girl and she held in a laugh swinging her feet, hitting the brick, Y/n watched sam look around while putting his sweatshirt on and sleeve.
Sam looked up at the church and saw y/n sitting in the clock "I told you not to leave the wall, come down here." He yelled up to the girl and she laughed "Ask nicely." she yelled down to him, he shook his head and rubbed his face with his right hand "Can you PLEASE! come down?" He yelled up, drawing out the 'please', Y/n stood up and walked down to the boy.
Sam stood a few feet in front of the door waiting for the girl. Y/n walk out and laughed "You look like a dad who just saw his daughter's boyfriend." she said holding her stomach laughing, After a few moments y/n stopped and took a deep breath fixing her hair. Sam shook his head at the girl with a small smile "you are... something." She smirked and walk to the boy glancing up at him "Its called trauma, sweetheart." and flicked his hat. He rolled his eyes and fixed his hat and nodded.
The two stood close to each other for a few moments before Y/n spoke up "So those crashes you tool, you need medical attention or?" Y/n asked stepping back from Sam, looking at his eye which was turned red. He shook his head "No, I'm fine. Thanks."
The two stood in silence before y/n started to walk away from him towards the cemetery behind the church "Where are you going?" Sam asked catching up to the girl, she laughs "Looking around. I have only seen a little bit of the main building and whatever you can see from the church. So, Sam is going to come with me and walk around while I get familiar with the place. Okay?" Y/n looked at Sam and winked "Okay." Sam agreed and the two walked around in silence for a while, Y/n taking a moment at a few graves to look at them and push away weeds covering them.
Y/n ran towards the giant greenfield looking at the tree line among it "DO you ever wonder what's behind it?" Y/n asked sam as she kicked off her sneakers letting them fall to the grass. Sam walked to her side "Yeah who wouldn't, also what are you doing?" Sam asked looking at the now barefoot girl.
She stared at him "What does it look like? Imma runs down the hill, with no shoes on. Possibly fall and hurt myself but imma have fun. With or with you." And with that y/n ran down the hill laughing. The grass wasn't so long that she could trip on it but it was long enough to not be able to see rocks. Y/n tripped slightly but caught her footing and continued down. She got to the bottom and danced around, Sam watching her from above.
Y/n did a few spins and fell to the ground on her back. Sam sat down on the grass where he was standing. Y/n took some deep breaths and let the world stop spinning before sitting up. Y/n looked up the hill and saw sam sitting there looking at the sky, distracted.
Y/n stood up and slowly walked up the hill and sat down next to him "What you looking at." Y/n said getting close to his ear, Sam flinched "dear lord. The sky, you?" Sam Chuckled glancing at the girl who had moved away from him "You. Because I'm stuck with you for a while."  Y/n said as she leaned on her hand looking at sam.
Y/n and Sam sat on top of the hill for a while in silence, the two were strangers and had nothing in common that they knew of. But they both felt like they could trust each other. The sky started turning orange and sam stood up and gave y/n his right hand "Come on, we got a go in." sam said as Y/n took his hand he lifted her "Is there a crew few or something?" Y/n asked as she brushed her butt off due to grass.
"No, not really, only in the morning. But we have to eat, and then the group will probably go to hang out in the attic later."Sam said and y/n nodded "Okay." Sam walked in front of Y/n as the went to the main building. sam opened the door for y/n "What a gentleman." Y/n Joked and walked through, the door closed and locked. Y/n turned to sam "So where is the cafe?" Sam pointed down the hall "Down there, Its not a hard building to find yourself around. It's just a matter of knowing which door is the right one."  Y/n nodded and followed sam.
Sam and Y/n entered the Cafeteria, Y/n saw Danielle and Rahne and walked towards them and sat down. Sam going to a random table in the room.
Y/n POV
I and Sam entered the Cafeteria, I saw Rahne and Danielle and Went to there table. I Waved and sat down"Hey! How are you guys." I asked as I sat down, the two girls smiled "Were fine, you?" Rahne responded with a smile, Dani nodded and smiled Taking a small bite of food.
"I'm fine, first full day here so..." I shrugged my shoulders, Danielle raised her brow "why did Reyes need you and sam  group?" Dani asked, I smiled and sighed "Apparently, I'm more then what her higher-ups though. So, Reyes asked sam to be the 'watcher' of me. It's my last chance or I guess I get sent somewhere else?" I explained to Dani "So You and Sam basically have to hang out all day, Just to make sure you don't get in trouble?" Dani asked and I nodded.
We talked some more about each other's day/ life before coming here while the two girls ate, I had gotten up and grabbed an apple "Are you going to the attic tonight?" Rahne asked and I raised a brow "I guess, I mean why not." I responded and Dani smiled "Oh your in for a surprise." I rolled my eyes and laughed "I bet, It can't be that bad."
"So how you liking Sam?" Rahne asked I shrugged "He's nice, I mean he's a good boy. And I'm not good, I'm trouble so." I started glancing over at Sam who was talking Roberto. Rahen chuckled "A Trouble maker paired with a good guy. What could go wrong?" Dani smirked at y/n " Very little, actually. I and he literally sat on the hill for like 30 minutes in silence." I laughed and so did Dani.
3rd person
A few minuted pass, Dani And Rahne had returned their trays and y/n had thrown away the apple "You wanna come to the common room with us until we all go to the attic?" Rahne asked as they returned,  Y/n nodded "Yeah sure." Y/n stood up and went to walk out with the 2 girls "Wait hold up, Never mind ill meet you there." Y/n said and stopped waving to the girls and walked over to sam.
"What you doing?" Y/n  said as she sat down at the table sam was at reading a book, sam looked up "Waiting for you. You done?" He asked marking and closing his book, Y/n nodded "Yeah, wanna go to the common room?" Y/n said as she stood up pointing to the door, Sam nodded "Okay, Come on." Sam and Y/n left the Cafe, Roberto washing dishes in the room.
The two entered the small room, Y/n jumped over the couch next to Dani and Rahne "Hello!" Y/n laughed and the girls waved continuing to watch the movie. A few minutes passed and Roberto knocked on the door "Come on attic time."
Rahne and Dani stood up, and y/n turned off the tv standing up and walking out of the room with the group. Roberto and Illyana up front basically running. the group went to the staircase and went up, the room smelled like old wood and dust. Y/n waled up the stairs and saw a wooden chair with wheel, an old gurney, with a stool next to it, and another table in the middle and on the side.
Illyana Walked tot eh back of the room pulling out an old briefcase, and opened it up. Y/n saw what it was "Oh, a lie detector test. wonderful." y/n said as she poked sams arm, Sam shrugged and sat on the stool next to Y/n who was on the table. Dani sat next to Y/n and Rahne sat next to the test.
"Whos going first?" Sam asked and Illyana smirked "Roberto?"Roberto got in the chair and Rahne hooked him up. After he got asked his question he got out and sam jumped in the chair Rahne hooking him up and such "Whos gonna ask?" Dani asked, Illyana spoke up "What's up with you and Y/n?" Y/n looked at the blonde and then at sam.
"Nothing, why?" Sam responded Rahne nodded "He's telling the truth." Rahne said to Illyana "Then why were you with her all day?" Y/n laughed at Illyana's question, Illyana faced her "What are you a stalker?" Y/n laughed at her, Illyana looked at sam "So..." Sam looked at y/n and cracked his knuckles "I was assigned to supervisor her. That's it." Rahne looked at the graph "Truth." Illyana nodded and looked at y/n "Your turn, new girl get in the chair."
Y/n shook her head and waited for Sam to get out before sitting in it and Rahne hooked her up "Why are you here?"Illyana smirked moving the light into Y/n face, y/n flinched before answering "I drove a bunch of people insane, and controlled them like puppets to kill each other." Y/n sated in an  emotionless voice "They killed each other slow and bloody, while voices in their heads drove them deeper and deeper into the craziness." Y/n said as she looked at Illyana.
The line on the board was straight "Shes telling the truth." Rahne muttered out, Illyana looked at the girl "And why is sam assigned to watch you? You to crazy to be alone?" Illyana said the last part in a high pitch voice,  Y/n chuckled "Yeah, pretty much. Reyes Higher Ups said ' I am too much then they can handle.' So yeah your right, I am too crazy to be alone. That and I threatened Reyes the other day." she said with a smile, the room went silent.  all that was heard was the lie director writing the line on the screen.
Y/n pulled the wires and stuff off of her and got out of the chair "I'm going." she said and walked down the stairs sam got off of the stool and signed "Good job." he faked smiles and followed the Y/n.
Y/n ran down the stairs and opened the door with a slam, tears were building up and she really just wanted to break something. She speed-walked down the concrete brick wall, Sam opened the door and y/n was halfway down the hall "Y/n!" he yelled but not too loud, Y/n didn't stop but ran into the bathroom and locked the deadbolt on the door.
3rd Person(bathroom)
Y/n ran into the bathroom and locked the deadbolt on the door, the tears that had built up started to fall. Y/n fell down the cold cinderblock wall, Flashbacks of the incident purged her mind and they would stop. Y/n put my head and my knees and hoped it would stop, hitting the wall once in a while when they got bad.
A knock echoed through the room "Y/n?" a person from outside answered, Sam. Of course. she didn't move, fearing the people would be in the room with her, Sam knocked again "Y/n, open the door. You're fine." sam voice was muffled slightly. Y/N shakily stood up and unlocked the door she stepped back so sam could get in. Tears still falling and her breathing is ridged with the scenes playing in her head.
Sam slowly pushed open the door closing it behind him, Sam faced Y/n whos hands were covering her eyes, "Y/n, hey you're fine. Okay, it was an accident."  Sam said trying to help the girl but not really knowing what to do. Y/n latched on to sam and cried harder, Sam hugged her with his right arm his left one was still up against his torso. Sam slowly bent down leading the two to the floor, sam pulled y/n into his lap as he sat up against the metal door.
Sam rubbed Y/n back slowly trying to calm her down "Tell me whats going on, y/n." Sam said in a quiet voice and the girl cried, she choaked "They're killing each other and screaming, there's blood everywhere. I don't-" she stopped talking covering her ears "What are you hearing y/n? talk to me." Sam stated holding her a little tighter "Just so many voices, ones from the men and ones from my power. It just won't stop sam." she cried hitting her head lighting with her palm.
Sam grabbed her hand and pulled it to her side so she couldn't "Hey, listen to me ok?" Sam asked the girl rubbing small circles into her hand, she nodded "They aren't here. Its just flashbacks of the incident. Your gonna be okay." He told Y/n, as she calmed down a little bit.
This went on for a few minutes before y/n crying had stopped. Sam rocked side to side a little bit until he heard no more crying, Y/n wiped her eyes and Sam gave her a tissue from his jacket, Y/n chuckled and cleaned herself up "Thank you." Y/n muttered in a tired voice getting out of his lap and leaning up against the wall next to him.
"You're welcome, you good now? You want me to carry you to your room?" Sam asked looking at the puffy eye girl, she shook her head "No, it's fine." she covered her mouth and coughed lightly. She brought her knees up to her chest " you good?" Sam asked rubbing her back "I will be If this breakdown didn't alert Reyes." she chuckled and look at sam and smiled, sam chuckled "I think you're good.  the only thing in the bathroom is probably a microphone." the two laughed, and Y/n shook her head  "Honestly with the number of cameras in this place probably." Y/n drifted off in thought, sam looked at her "What are you thinking?" Sam asked with a little fear in his voice, Y/n busted out laughing "With the number of cameras and microphones here in this building. The amount of security guards that have probably caught people doing the deed is ... Oh my god." Sam walked Y/ns calf with his right hand lightly and y/n stuck her hands up "I'm just saying... don't get you jockeys in a knot." Y/n laughed and Sam dragged his hand down his face shaking his head.
Y/n laughing echoed throughout the room, soon Sam joined in. the room echoed with the twos laughing. A few moments later they topped and y/n chuckled "I mean... We could test that microphone theory..." Y/n drifted off in thought with a wink, Sam shook his head "What?" Y/n looked at him, Sam's mouth widened at the realization and y/n wheezed " Oh my, y/n."  she laughed harder and Sam tried to comprehend what I happening.
Sam signed And looked at y/n "Not now, oh my god." Y/n stopped laughing and shrugged "I mean, you won't know until it's proven or not." Y/n smirked at Sam, he shook his head You are just, too much."
"So, you want to? or..." Y/n joked Sam laughed "one day sure, now? no." Y/n shook her head, and grabbed some right hand with her left hand and looked at him "I'll hold it to you, Guthrie." Sam shook his head and yanked Y/n hand towards him. Putting his arm around her shoulder "I bet you will."
