1- Interesting outfit choice Link. It's the one he wore when he was a bit younger. So he's got a younger mindset when waking up. Which is just sad.

2- his outfit changes to half blue half green with a purple sleeve, his hands are all sorts of wrong and mish mashed with red and purple nails. His eyes also have the wrong color. His body is distorting all over the place...Interesting.

3- Shadow you shouldn't have said anything. The coward's hiding too lmfao he knows he fucked up.

4- Safe to say he's not very happy.

Link's distorting and glitching is based on video game glitches. Which is fun because: LOZ is a video game.

There's something distinctly haunting and uncanny about buggy/glitchy game assets and I wanted to capture it here.

Like the reality of four people being forced into one body is quite horrifying and the idea of them just bugging out unable to process how many thoughts there are is overwhelming. Literally like overloading a computer or gaming system.

There's also something to be said about how he fully breaks after seeing Shadow Link.

This is brought up later so I'll expand upon it later but the fact literally the only words Shadow Link spoke to LINK was "I'm the hero Link" or smth like that is hysterical.

For living together for 7 years: They truly don't know each other well on a personal level considering their ability to communicate was stunted by Shadow being...Well a Shadow. And I wanna explore that more as the series goes on.

2- Vio's here too. Something tells me calming down isn't working considering your face is cracking more and the tunic is flashing different colors.

I think a few people caught this but Link breaking down here was based on the forced gem fusions in SU also the distorted static version of the cartoons from learning with pibby XD

It was good inspo for how horrific this scenario is.

Really all of them are just kinda, shoved in there. Unable to truly escape and they're NOT HAPPY about it.

Blue specifically is trying to get out as we'll know later and we get more context on his thoughts about this ordeal from the Darkblue chapter... But visually you can see Link's got two faces and it remains consistent that that's Blue.

Which, is terrifying.

There's also the underlying horror that the "Why" Link is back in one body isn't truly addressed but we'll get more into that later.

The sad thing is that Link's reaching out for help and Shadow responds by screaming in terror lmfao.

Cause Link seems monstruous at the moment but the reality of the situation is he's very clearly conscious and scared. He's reaching out to the only person he can, which is Shadow.

I think this might be my favorite design of Link in this state. It's just horrific to look at. The eyes bleeding onto both his faces which are cracked like mirrors so you can't tell what he's looking at. He has Vio and Blue's legs sticking out of his back, and entire extra head forcing its way off his main one, it's hard to tell from these but his skin is glitching in both Red and Blue's separate skin tones (Blue's being a bit darker and Red's being lighter)

His tunic is pitch black which, black absorbs all wavelengths of light and reflects none...Literally keeping it trapped haha.

Yeah. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING.

Anyway, Link/Green, Vio and red are all reaching out to shadow but blue is suspiciously absent haha.

Them grabbing onto Shadow is smth Vio would do...

The four sword's lil gem thingy is glitched to shit too. Each colored piece being a different size. Green's is noticeably larger while Blue and Red's are about the same size. Vio's is the smallest.

Shadow's hat is doing that thing Dark does when he's upset where it clings to his body.

Yeah feeling like you can't do anything would be a feeling you fall into frequently being trapped as a shadow.

I’ve been thinking about Jungkook a lot lately, I suppose because he has been absent. Like you, I’m wondering what he’s been up to. And in the last day or so with Calvin Klein trending and the excitement over a possible new partnership with them, has just kept Jungkook in the front of my mind even more. 

This JKxCK thing is not just a fantasy of wanting to see him half naked but it’s the excitement that he’s possibly found a fashion designer that suits his mood, his sense of style and matches his creativeness. 

Calvin Klein is a classic American designer usually noted for elegant clean lines and understated design and I can see JK pulling that off really well. Calvin Klein is known to be “every-mans clothing” because of the accessibility and is easy for regular people to wear. All values that seem to align with JK’s unassuming sense of self. 

Something else Calvin Klein is famous for are their underwear campaigns. If Jungkook chooses to show us some skin well yay for us! And if he doesn’t, that’s fine too. However, I am certainly not expecting a full blown CK underwear campaign starring Jungkook of BTS. Except there was this, remember?

And to say Jungkook doesn’t know what he’s doing because “why would he choose Calvin Klein over Givenchy, Gucci, Versace or some other European brand?” Well, we really don’t know if he’s actually chosen Calvin Klein yet. Nothing is formal yet, there’s not been any announcement so, for all we know, it still may not be true. 

But to say he doesn’t know what he’s doing is just evidence you are not paying attention to Jungkook. 

His brother owns a clothing company. Jungkook was involved in the company until a few years ago when he had to step down because some assholes tried to make it look like he was backhandedly promoting his brother’s brand. This was proven to be unjustified accusations.

Graffitionmind’s style is very similar to the things we usually see Jungkook wearing: easy-fitting unisex pieces with or without simple graphics. I’m sure he had a hand in developing some of the designs because his Artist Made Merch zip up hoodie had a similar feel.

Jungkook is smart, he is kind and polite, he’s not the loud attention seeking type, he’s not going to cause a scene, he’s going to quietly work and everything he does will be superlative because he is very talented but he is also very modest. Many of these qualities are the same ones that we find in Jimin. As far as we know, Jungkook’s doing his thing and being creative and making his own decisions.

For the other Anon in my inbox saying that Jungkook needs to stand up for he and Jimin’s relationship, and this idea you are putting forth that Jungkook is some kind of person that he really isn’t? Spineless? Weak? Unemotional? A pushover? Anon, you haven’t been paying attention. I think that NOT acknowledging the ridiculousness online shows a lot of restraint and maturity. Totally ignoring it is a sign of him not wasting time on things that don’t matter in the big scheme of things. 

Why can’t he even just hit that little heart on Jimin’s posts? Boo, just because you want it ain’t gonna make it happen. Stop keeping score. Get over it. Jimin’s Instagram posts are work. Jungkook’s Instagram posts are work. Just because they don’t hit that little heart on each other’s work on social media doesn’t mean there’s trouble in paradise...

Knee-jerk reacting to everything people say on the internet is an exercise in futility. Is all the ranting online the reason we don’t see Jungkook or Jimin online anymore? Could be, because why do they wanna subject themselves to that kind of lunacy? They know what their truth is and don’t have to prove it to anybody. 

Another frustrated anon... I know it can be frustrating when you want someone to speak up and tell everybody they’re wrong about something you feel strongly about or care a lot about and I understand you feel helpless and you want to help them. You want Jungkook and Jimin to come out and say everything’s fine. But we just have to trust them. Every time we see them they look fine. Are they as loud as they have been in the past? No. Look at what circumstances they are faced with now, things are different now than they were then, there’s a lot more expectation of them these days. Things have happened in the past 3 years. BTS is bigger than ever. And now they’re about to be faced with enlistment.

We see them on Welive, Run BTS, Bangtan bombs and episodes. Nothing’s changed. There are obvious signs if you just look. Gravitating to each other, always hanging back together. The way they talk to each other. 

Just because you want them to shout it out louder doesn’t mean they need to or even should, in order to satisfy your own insecurity. 

Like other bloggers, I feel like I am repeating things over and over. 

I realize some of this frustration/anger/insecurity comes from Tae recently mentioning Jungkook‘s name during his last live. But Jimin mentions Jungkook’s name too. I’m sure the cult vilifies Jimin because of it, so what’s the point in getting upset over it? If you are only in it for the shipping, you will end up disappointed because Jimin and Jungkook are real human beings, not characters in a fanfiction. Learn to curate your timeline to rid yourself of drama.

Maybe JK really was playing games with Tae and his friends, and, so what? it was obvious that they were online gaming... you could hear them through the speakers, and then Tae said in the interest of not hearing any of them curse because they made a mistake in the game, he went and turned the volume off. I don’t see what that has to do with Jimin and Jungkook though. If Jin wasn’t away in the army, he could have been part of their gaming group as well, and before he went, maybe he was!... WHO KNOWS!

I know everyone seems concerned about Jimin and Jungkook because we don’t see what’s happening and again I want to say we need to trust them. The fretting is getting out of hand. 

The anon who is obsessed with Jimin living alone, being single... stop ... this apartment of Jungkook’s where he’s been doing his lives ... maybe he does live there… some of the time. 

I understand many of your points of view originate from a more traditional mindset where couples live together, are seen together, are very publicly affectionate or do/say things that make it obvious they are together.

I’m still a vastly different thinker from many of you when it comes to Jimin and Jungkook in that they could be together and not live together. Their living situation and their lifestyle is not what we would customarily think of how people who might be sleeping together would behave. I really and truly would not be surprised to learn that they maintain separate residences. I will not be surprised to learn that the ones that we think they live in are not the ones where they actually live. 

Yet I think there’s a very good chance that if they don’t actually live together, they still spend quite a lot of time together, and not just at work, because you can’t know the details of all the popular culture things they mention all the time without familiarity. These two probably do not spend hours texting each other details about TV shows and memes and what not. Who has time for that? They certainly don’t. They watch these things and see these things sitting next to each other (together, bam) how else could they be on the same wavelength in so many instances when it comes to details they think are funny? They have too many inside jokes that imply they spend A LOT of time together.

Tying this in with Tae’s online gaming session... Jimin has said things about Jungkook’s gaming habits... he knows about them because he’s sitting nearby while Jungkook is gaming. 

But why would they maintain two residences if they are together? Think about that... think about the society they live in... think about the circumstances surrounding them... they are global entertainment superstars. Cameras are pointed at them at all times. If they were to be spotted on the street, the cameras will fly out of peoples’ pockets just so they can get some sort of proof that they saw world famous BTS. I reiterate! Jimin and Jungkook are not like us! 

But why does Jungkook go out to eat so often by himself and we know about it? Boo, dude’s gotta eat and believe me, instant ramen everyday ain’t it sometimes. What are you expecting them to do? Pop out to the Outback Steakhouse every Friday night for date night? Jimin AND Jungkook together? Be real. Jungkook isn’t stupid. 

Why does Jimin talk about going home and not having anything to eat, he must be single. Does it need to be said out loud that couples who both work high pressure jobs commonly find themselves in a situation where one of them works late, comes home and has to fend for themselves or your partner is on a business trip or working long hours and you have to stay at home and figure out what to eat by yourself? Or they are both busy working on their solo endeavors and see each other when they can! Please, people, think beyond your own little world. 

At this point in time and yes, I’m gonna say it, with military service looming, they aren’t gonna flaunt what might be happening between them. I beg you, please employ some critical thinking skills. They are very much keeping anything on the down low.

Hey so idk if you would know this but where did the term canyon in reference to Izzy fans come from? I feel like I just started seeing it like three days ago but everyone seems to already know what it means

lol so disclaimer that this ask has been in my inbox since september 23rd and alsoooo i might not be the best person to ask bc i am belothed by many who consider themselves part of the izzy canyon (which is their right). so if you asked an izzy fan about this you would probably get a different answer. also from what i can tell the term originated on twitter and i don’t go there.

the tl;dr that i heard secondhand from someone who identifies as izzy canyon is that at some point last year (summer or fall-ish i think) a lot of izzy fans were blocking so many people who didn’t like izzy that a lot of them ended up being unaware of general fandom trends and it became a running joke among them that izzy fans were isolated from the rest of the fandom in an "izzy canyon." and then allegedly the term expanded to just mean "if ur not a dick abt ppl liking izzy u can be in the canyon." THAT BEING SAID there are other ppl who had a very different experience with how "the canyon" originated and what kind of fan space it tends to be.

the thing with The Canyon is that to understand its origin and also why some fans have a problem with it, you gotta know two things:

there are annoying puriteen anti types on the internet who think liking certain characters make you a bad person. from what i can tell theyre mostly on twitter and tiktok. these people are annoying but also in my experience they're usually pretty easy to block and ignore.

the popularity of izzy hands is disproportionate to his narrative role in the show, and the popular fanon interpretation of izzy hands casts him not only as a principal character but as a much more sympathetic, righteous character than he is in canon. THIS DOES NOT MEAN I THINK ANYONE IS A BAD PERSON FOR LIKING IZZY. this DOES mean that i think ppl who think ed is izzy's domestic abuser are wrong. and also this is part of an age old fandom trend of fandom favoring a masc white guy who is often a side character and also often an antagonist.

so from what i can tell. in the early days of the ofmd fandom (spring-summer 2022) there was a lot of #1 going around on twitter, screaming about how if you liked izzy hands then you're a racist abuse apologist or something. at one point a throwaway account tweeted a callout for a popular izzy fan and said "we know they live in this area and work for this company, so these are the locations where they might work. everyone should call these numbers and tell their job to fire them. also we're gonna target these izzy fans next" and like, obviously this account was pretty quickly taken down. but it was a pretty scary thing and left a lot of izzy fans pretty paranoid, hence the blocking everyone who didnt like izzy.

(there was also a "izzy hater group chat" twitter account that was literally just a small group of mostly minors posting memes and also abt izzy that got accused of being connected to that whole mess. but afaict those guys have nothing to do with harassment of izzy fans they just dont like izzy)

so the thing is now that all of that has been used to justify shutting down any type of conversation about #2, or writing off anyone who posts meta about izzy that isnt like, "he works so hard and is so unappreciated despite everything he's done for ed" as an "izzy anti." analyzing izzy critically and posting this in the #izzy hands tag on tumblr is likened to genuine harassment.

oh lol and speaking of harrasment: there was also a problem with ppl on tumblr getting anon hate, and izzy fans will tell you that the anon came from an izzy hater who was targeting izzy fans bc the anon messages use "izzy critical rhetoric." however as someone who has posted "izzy critical" metas or whatever, i have actually gotten the same harassing messages accusing me of being an izzy stan and a racist abuse apologist. that's not what a targeted harassment campaign looks like. that's all been less of a problem ever since tumblr made it so you need to be logged in to an account to send anonymous messages.

anyway my stance on all of this:

i don't hate anyone for liking izzy. i am critical of certain comments/behaviors i often see from ppl who identify as izzy fans, but izzy fans are rarely the only ones who have this problem. from what i've seen tho, a lot of it comes from izzy fans.

before i ever saw even a hint of harassment against izzy fans, i saw izzy fans coming onto my posts and to posts by fans of color trying to argue that these posts were contributing to their harassment. from my perspective, it looked a lot like fans of a white character were trying to shut down conversations abt their favorite guy, especially when those conversations were being had by fans of color. i was very skeptical and oftentimes pretty dismissive abt the existence of this harassment.

since then tho ive done a pretty deep dive into the anon harassment on tumblr, and also looked at takes from different perspectives on the whole thing, and my conclusion is that there is harassment of izzy fans, however it is on the same base-level shittiness that most people experience from just... being on the internet. death threats and insults and slurs are literally just part of being on the internet. and yes, it SUCKS and it's wrong and nobody should have to put up with it, but izzy fans are not victims of specific targeted harassment. theyre victims of being on the internet and having to put up with general internet shittiness. and im sympathetic to that up until ppl start using "ive been harassed for being an izzy fan" as an excuse to be incredibly nasty (check out this tumblr acct for examples of what i mean lol). the ofmd fandom is annoying and parts of it are toxic but like, by no means is this the most toxic fandom to ever exist. we're not at "undertale fan giving out cookies with needles in them at a convention" levels just yet.

finally, tangentially related: i am inherently wary of fandom sub-groups that like, name themselves?? in my experience, the more people make being a Type Of Fan part of their identity the more it tends to lead to problems. this goes for fans who label themselves "antis" or "anti-antis" or whatever the fuck. i've personally been called an "izzy anti," an "izzy hater," and an "izzy critical fan" but like, i dont really call myself that?? it just seems weird to me idk. it gets to be very "us vs them" on default with little nuance and ive never found this kind of thing to be like, productive in fandom spaces. but that's just me.

He also can't help but freak out

You getting hurt or worse is his literally his nightmare and losing you in an capacity is his only real free

Once he's composed again he will very shyly deny that he ever lost his cool that much in the first place

Scale is probably the second most protective boy in the cast

But he's definitely not as possessive or unhinged lmao

He's more nervously concerned

He sees you trip and catches you and is all "dorky and worried"

Yes. He considers concern dorky. He is an assassin. They don't DO concern...

At least he usually doesn't

But with you he turns into a fretting mother hen at a pin drop

And then gets really embarrassed that he did

He has been training specifically to keep you safe

Reflexes to catch you when you fall

Awareness of your surroundings to notice any danger before it has a chance to come near you

First aid and CPR, just in case

He is also a stand behind you menacingly type

But unlike Cole, he is not as quiet about it

Not that he's screaming or anything, but he will tell someone to piss off

He also will pull out one of his blades to really send the message home

Def one of the types to bridal carry you if you hurt yourself or are feeling weak

He also always makes sure you're wearing a seat belt (which half the time he doesn't even do himself)

There are a lot of dangers out there, but he's always watching out for you, having your back from the shadows whether you know it or not

ok i have to make a disclaimer here too since someone just accused me of running scams + called me pathetic and then blocked me before i could explain anything lmao.

to clarify: yes i’m currently actively boosting multiple crowdfunds for 3 separate people (mutuals and friends who need financial assistance for various reasons), through my main blog yellowmonday and my fandom sideblog thylaseraph (wrongfully terminated and still unrestored rip.) i am fundraising through dming blogs, because that’s the easiest and most effective way to reach out. these are all verifiable requests, they are legitimate, these are all unrelated people who i have chosen to support because i care about them.

if this makes you uncomfortable and you choose to ignore/block me that is fine, especially if you’re a minor or can’t interact for some other reason. PLEASE do not report me i just got my account recovered !! above everything else please be kind.

my method of crowdfunding: i am on a few other social media sites but tumblr is the easiest to crowdfund on, but censorship and sitewide prejudice against crowdfunders still present barriers. my goal is to get as many people to reblog these aid requests as possible. to do that, i take screenshots of post notes with usernames — i use posts that have over 1k notes so i can reach a lot of different people.

based off the screenshots i direct message people, i type out each individual username, i can share the post with only 4 blogs at a time. many people have dms turned on private. for every dozen usernames in a screenshot, i can successfully message probably half of them. i usually don’t know any of these blogs, i don’t look at their bios, i often don’t know if i’ve messaged them before unless i recognize the username.

it is an imperfect method and i inevitably dm people who get upset which i am sorry for, i always apologize when somebody says they don’t want to be dmed and won’t share. i apologize and try to be polite because i understand the reasonable suspicion, and i don’t want anybody to feel financially obligated especially because so many people are struggling rn, and also because it would be fucking awful if my friends got accused of or reported for being scammers just because of me trying to help! many people do end up reblogging, some people respond to my message with confirmation or words of support, which is always appreciated.

about my scripts: the messages i send are scripted and copy and pasted, saying what the reason for the request is, and i am basically asking for whatever they can contribute even if it’s just a reblog and it’s fine if they can’t etc. it may also include things like, sorry for bothering you, sorry if i have previously dmed you/if you have previously reblogged, thank you, have a nice day etc etc.

i have revised the message a few times and i rewrote it for each person i am crowdfunding on behalf of to give more personal details. i copy and paste that and i think i can mass dm about 50 blogs per day. i talk about my script a little more here (deleted post rip.) in a post trying to gather support for my spn mutual’s ongoing crowdfund — i encourage other people to do the same script + mass dming to gain visibility.

this method of individual outreach has been effective which is why i’m doing it! i share crowdfunds as often as i can on all of my social media platforms, but directly reaching out to people results in more traction and emphasizes the importance of small affordable donations from multiple people. and i think that someone vouching for somebody else’s crowdfund also establishes more trust and credibility in other people’s eyes, which imo is incredibly unfair especially considering how isolated, unsupported, and mistrusted many crowdfunders are.

Black and brown people who crowdfund or rely on other people’s funds for survival are intensely scrutinized, disbelieved, criticized, harassed, ignored, and otherwise marginalized. crowdfunds are generally prioritized based on how relatable, aesthetically pleasing, or friendly they present themselves to be; and how “achievable” or “feel-good” they are, and how well-known, connected, or put-together the crowdfunder makes a huge difference in whether their goal gets met. it turns into a desirability game so the most vulnerable and marginalized people are often abandoned.

i have seen chronically ill people die with unmet medical funding goals. the necessary social capital to meet a lifesaving goal is so inaccessible, and the project of crowdfunding is so impossible. from what i know, over my few years of observing and supporting crowdfunds, and attempts at crowdfunding for myself and my ex-partner in desperate times over the past year, the single most critical factor in meeting a goal (which again is so. so uncommon) is the active participation, interaction, and endorsement of other people. including privileged and moneyed people, but mostly just lots of caring people being vocal. community literally saves lives even online. even a comment on a post or a decision to sponsor one person’s crowdfund can make a huge difference, i strongly encourage people to do this more often and just become more active and VISIBLY supporting crowdfunds.

many people crowdfund this way (through mass/individual outreach) for themselves or others, i don’t think it’s as common on tumblr and it might be harder to distinguish authentic dms from bots and scams on tumblr but. it is still a method that people regularly use to survive. and it takes up a lot of time and is not always fruitful and sometimes you get shitty responses but personally id rather have that be aimed at me than the people who are pleading for support for themselves.

its hard enough to make a post baring the most personal, intimate, painful details of your life, and have it not even generate $20; so how hard is sending that to people and be explicitly ignored or called a liar? i am glad to do this for my friends because it SUCKS!!! i have been directly asked by at least one person to do this for them, and for the others i just started doing it because they had not been getting the visibility they need. it’s not so fucking easy to get visibility on posts without directly begging for it, and many of the people who are crowdfunding do not have the time/energy/resources to do that. it is work, it is draining, when you have to do it for yourself.

i do this as often as i can, like i said there’s a daily limit of blogs i can dm before tumblr restricts me, and some days i do not have the energy which is something i feel bad about. i have had my own requests for affording things like masks for work, or groceries and rent before i moved back with my parents, but i have not dmed people for my own crowdfunds because i am somewhat secure rn. im in debt lmao and im working and contributing literally my entire disposable income to sustaining other people as much as possible. and that’s a privilege because i don’t have to worry about where im getting my own meals as i do this.

i have been fortunate enough to meet my small goals or have large goals partially met by mutuals or friends of friends which i am so grateful for, and which is painful to know knowing that daily my own friends are struggling with much less support or bigger, ongoing goals. i know it is a hundred times worse for people who are crowdfunding this way for themselves every day even if they do not have the energy, because they need to, to survive. that’s why i do this when i can, i have the time to help people in this way, in addition to directly donating if i can afford it, and because i have been in that position, and because people i care about are in that position, and because strangers who are in that position also deserve every ounce of support anybody else can spare.

i believe in the practice of mutual aid and since i do not have the ability to directly donate or get involved with irl organization myself at this time, crowdfunding for other people online is what I can do right now. i think society is fucked up idk what else to say! i don’t just mean the social inequity that causes people to become financially unstable and alienated in these ways, but also the attitude of mistrust and anger toward everybody asking for help that develops because of it. anyways.

if anybody has any questions about legitimacy, of me or the requests im boosting, i am fully willing to answer. some tips i would give if you’re trying to discern between a scam and an authentic crowdfund (these are not always definitive but may be helpful):

blog history and activity to see how old the blog is, if they have mutuals, if they post updates, if they blog about other things or talk about their life. sometimes real people create blogs on tumblr just to crowdfund so you can’t always tell based off this, it MIGHT be a sign of a repeat scammer.

having a conversation with the person. do they seem like a real person whose story checks out? if you’re going to report someone for scamming you should at least talk to them first. otherwise you could be endangering their platform and cutting them off from support. tumblr is known for doing this to marginalized people.

checking out the links they provide — if it’s multiple and usernames/face id is consistent across platforms, if they sell goods or services which could verify them as a real person, selfies and photos etc. most scammers are not putting that much effort in, they’re usually ripping off somebody else’s story and photos. use reverse image search. if you’re not sure, it is your right to ignore but please be aware of how many sincere people get harassed for this, like please don’t be cruel or endanger somebody’s income.

and it’s fine that people ignore me or block me, please do so if you feel uncomfortable with a stranger reaching out like this, but above all else i don’t want to get any of my friends in trouble or make people doubt the validity of their crowdfunds, i just want people to know these campaigns can be verified if you take a few minutes. like im truly sorry to bother people because i know scams go around all the time but if you care that much it is not generally extremely difficult to find out if something is a scam or if it is genuine. and in the worst case scenario if you’re unable to decide for certain, you can. just ignore. and block.

Convinced adults are the most childish and immature people to exist. Especially the ones in the tumblr - creepypasta/slenderverse community ! If you have a problem with a discord server run and operated by TEENAGERS I don’t think it’s the best n smartest idea to drag it onto tumblr, esp since the problem had been long resolved. Just for that I’m being petty and posting about it 🤷

My server is not a bad place. So let’s have a small run through, shall we?? :3

What was said in the general chat right before the person dipped. The full thing didn’t fit on screen but at the top it said “im just gonna leave this here and i'll probably get kicked or banned for it but” (word for word copy n pasted.)

1) the whole point of reaching out to higher ups in server is for them to HEAR YOU OUT. All my mods including me did so and would’ve done in a more appropriate manner IF this person hadn’t done it in a general chat, when clearly it should’ve been discussed privately with me or any one of my mods.

Also it’s apart of the RULES might I add. The LAST rule right before u grab the role to access my server.

PSA this whole thing conjured up bc of an argument that was about slur usage in my server.

- being an adult, being diagnosed, and having experienced someone with an diagnosed disorder does not make you special. I’m glad you and your family are more privileged and have been able to receive real diagnosis and help from medical professionals but that isn’t a case for many. Especially when it comes to minors. Not being diagnosed, and esp being a teenager w mental illness doesn’t make us any less vulnerable then people who have gotten the change to be diagnosed and what-not. SLUR USAGE IN MY SERVER

- this is what essentially caused the issue, because this person started a debate over people using slurs in my server. I was in school at the time this whole happened and only experienced the aftermath but based on the chats I had read and what my mods said in my absence; YES RECLAIMABLE SLURS ARE ALLOWED TO AN EXTENT. — slurs that can be reclaimed by the person using it are allowed to be thrown around moderately and only in joking-friendly mannerisms. If you’re uncomfortable with that then you either ignore em in the server or leave. There was NO NEED to start a issue that lasted several hours.

BOT PURPOSES — TUPPERBOX AND PLURAL.

My server is not a roleplay server and I have made that HEAVILY clear. It’s a creepypasta hang-out which is safe for Systems, IRLs, fiction/otherkins, therians, and other fictotypes. It’s stated in the rules that TUPPERBOX AND PLURAL IS NOT INTENDED FOR RP.

There are more roleplay creepypasta / slenderverse servers out there then just general discussion/hang out ones. I promise if you want to find a RP server to use TB in there are plenty out there. So sorry that MY SERVER RULES state that u can’t rp in there and can’t use either bots for roleplay intentions, esp tupper. Plural is SYSTEMS ONLY.

No one was targeting this person for being autistic or an adult. The person they got in a debate/fight w was not a mod either and both parties had gotten in trouble as far as I’m concerned. The person in these screenshots had left my server on their own account and me as the owner and other mods hadnt reacted badly or criticized them for their paragraph. We suggested that next time they pull a ticket like the RULES ELABORATED ON.

Thought everything was dandy and done w. I don’t like drama esp when it leads back to me, until they apparently went straight to tumblr and posted about it, which my mod had came across the post and called them out for before they deleted it.

I see a lot of artists drawing Gwen and giving her lighter skin tone or just ignoring all the features and she ends up looking nothing like herself. I don't want to accuse the artists in whitewashing her but where is the, idk, line where the artstyle is turning into a whitewashing?

This is an interesting question! I'm not sure I am the right person to answer this as I am not an artist or know the type of software and artistic styles that are used. Hopefully, someone with a lot of knowledge than me can answer this better!

However, even though I am not an artist, I think that you have your answer within your own question!

If you are seeing artwork that is a lighter tone or ignores Gwen's features, that is white washing. Especially if her tone is significantly lighter to the point she looks like a white woman.

From what I have seen online, fans have created boards of character's tone you can use within your art. I will link some examples below. I am not sure if anyone has done the same for the Merlin fandom, but it is definitely worth keeping an eye out for. One of the posts I will link below has a variety of tones you can use for individual characters, and they take lighting into account.

One of the big issues (that I have seen) is when people use 'pastel' styles. Often, darker tones are nowhere to be seen, and the excuse of 'it's a pastel style' is used. Darker tones can be incorporated into pastel art, and it usually looks quite good! People's skin tones are not an aesthetic, and so it is important you do it right. Using the excuse of art (pastel) styles reminds me reminds me of Tim Burton's defence for not incorporating Black people into his work.

im going to post this not only as a way to defend myself but to also put out the truth so that lies arent being spread around. shoutout to anyone in this group called illustrio as this will help put out some info for those wondering whats going on:

for starters, i joined a fun discord group set in the marauders era as it was intended for busy people with busy schedules. as someone who hasnt roleplayed in a long time due to working full-time hours, this was the perfect setup for me. however, things seem to change...and yes, for the worse.

i received this message from one of the admins expressing how my inactivity has led to some difficulty interacting/proceeding with the group's plot points, which was a valid concern. i have since messaged every time i got busy and even apologized for not being around as much as i wouldve liked (which i didnt rlly have to tbh considering that the group was made FOR busy ppl but anyways). i then proceeded to ask if any other issues may have occurred that need to be brought up so we can discuss and move on successfully and healthily as a group, but it seems that i have been kicked out before i could even get the chance to reach out. despite it all, my main goal was to get clarity and ask for the true reasons why i was being let go (mind you i was still at work when this happened so i only got back to reply an hour later):

as mentioned in my last response, there were many uncomfortable instances in the group that happened and yes, i shouldve spoken out when i could have gotten the chance as it was happening, but the amount of time i have spent roleplaying in general, has just made me ignore those 'hiccups' when they did occur. regardless, it was a very weird and absurd reply and until now im still wondering where this reaction came from when i reached out very neutrally from the get-go.

i usually shrug these type of things off as it unfortuantely does happen from time to time in the rp community, but i only decided to take matters into my own hands when im being accused of calling the mun mentioned above slurs.

despite it being a very SERIOUS accusation, i made sure to review our past messages and see where and when i could have made a comment that harmful (which i did not) just to be sure i didnt offend/harm/belittle anyone. as expected, i have seen that there are NO offensive messages in our chats as we only talked for a brief amount of time and never really got to again before they messaged me privately about this matter. below are the screenshots of our conversations before this dilemma. i have NOT touched our chats at all, so saying i have been deleting messages??? another strange thing to say:

these screenshots are the only instances where and when we talked and as im looking through, i still dont see any of the slurs that im being accused of. i havent had any 1 on 1 interactions with the mun with any of our characters either during my time in the group and only got to to talk to o through the general/public ic chats on the server.

i thought that this mun was overall, very friendly and kind. i had no issues with them whatsoever, so im wondering where the sudden change in reactions came from as i genuinely and wholeheartedly never gave them a reason to hate/dislike me.

i have since reached out to one of my friends who is also in the group and he has been sharing how the group and current admins believe that i have been referring to this mun with slurs. i hope that whoever is still in that group sees this and gets the WHOLE story before accusing someone of something this serious. it's truly tarnishing and hurtful that lies are being spread about my name, so please give this a thorough review before listening to only one side of the story and not verifying anything.

also, when the previous admin had managed the group, i thought they were very friendly and welcoming and had no issues with them as well, so this is all very confusing and surprising to me to say the least. as shown above on the screenshot, my first reply had been very neutral and in no way did i 'lash' out at the mun when they had first messaged me as stated in that photo.

and again, before you accuse someone of anything serious ESPECIALLY slurs, please make sure that you have the necessary proof to do so. regarding that, i have asked in the beginning of the message for any proof to show when and where i may have offended this person, but as i stated and will continue to say: i dont think i have the means to dehumanize someone else all because of a roleplay. if you have had that experience, please report them immediately. if you are someone who says slurs, please seek help and re-evaluate yourself before harming others.

all in all, i think the group was fun while it lasted. everyone seemed friendly and welcoming but this unfortunate turn of events has made me want to take a break from roleplaying in the next bit. i hope this could clear up the air as i intended to initially. thanks so much again if you got to read this far.

Even with another member wouldn't work because I have not adapted and asimilated an "anti" mentality. Because there is one, regardless of the person. It's a specific type of hate that gets expressed through a common language, terminology, conspiracy theory, with some variations, depending on the few things that each person is usually accused of. The rhetoric is then being used almost as being copy-pasted because they create their echo chamber. They're using minimal brain cells because why would anyone have to think when they can just reblog and use the same narrative over and over again? Cult-like mentality encourages people to adopt one narrative and stick to it, no matter what. Contradictory elements are either ignored, pushed or repackaged in order to fit the conspiracy.

I am deeply bothered by what I had to read. I could play it cool like everyone does when they get hate mail or such public calling outs on other blogs, but I won't. Ever since I've come into contact with this fandom space I've been called plenty of names, threated to be doxxed, they brought out the common weapons used by fandom people. But now I feel deeply insulted because this is automatically also attacking the work I've been doing. Yes, the research and the hours I've spent writing text analysis and interpretation, only to be dismissed by people who clearly don't have the same intelectual capacity, or at least they don't put it to use like that.

For hardcore stans, the most important thing is to stream, buy, call their bias a victim indirectly and engage in a circle jerk of hate. Repeat every day at nauseaum. Their mind cannot comprehend that not all people are grinding on social media as part of some internet war against everyone. That some of us are normal, functional folks that are just fans and we express that however we want. You'd think it's common sense to understand that, but it's not.

And some people in these circles are often liking my posts about Jimin. Talk about having some self-respect, clearly not existent.

I don't know how much should I repeat that this is not a fandom blog, that I do not wish to engage with such people and I don't want this to ruin my experience on tumblr once again. Because I'll be honest, it left a really bad taste in my mouth today. And this happens every time I have to read vile things and conspiracy theories about people that I'm a fan of. I want to be able to be up to date or read other opinions, but it gets harder and harder to navigate through the massive of bullshit. And ultimately, I have to stay away from every single sub group, even if it's focused on an artist I like.

like, the fact that some trans voices are finally being spotlighted in the feminist movement is much needed and long overdue.

but spinning around to point at people who aren’t women, women-adjacent, or even aligned with any gender, and accuse them of being The Misogynist All Along like some sort of scooby doo villain feels like it’s still vastly missing the point.

like. the people who have the most access to patriarchal privilege are the same white supremacist perisex guys who are passing the laws to try to erase all of us from existence, and the same white supremacist perisex rich guys who have been funneling them money. it’s the cis perisex abled (usually) straight white guys who still get preferential treatment at our workplacss and are still making more money than all of us. it’s the guys who have a whole church congregation behind them. it’s the perisex cis (usually) straight men who are moving to fight feminism bc they think they’re losing something they’re entitled to, the ones who think that male privilege is their birthright. it’s the fucking judicial system. it’s the electoral college we’re staring down the barrel of in november, and the powers that be that want to keep it there.

but. call me insane (and I am Mad so sure). I don’t think it should be somehow an offense to consider there are multiple types of transphobia to think about as we update this conversation, and the fact that a binarist perisex system will swing itself in different ways to best hit different targets. these discussions are all owed their due. I think there are more complex things at work here than, as typical, gets kicked around in snappy internet posts.

there’s this weird conception right now that people who figured out they aren’t actually women anymore (or never were, define thyself as thou wilt) are somehow amnesiac to misogyny, that suddenly there’s some huge gap there, when like. I don’t know any of us who ever actually escape it.

I still see post-op trans men - with full beards! - who get called poor mutilated, deluded women, and the violence towards them is gendered as such.

I have many, many non-binary or bigender or genderfluid colleagues and friends who, because they cannot afford to medically transition yet (or don’t want to, as is their right) have their social transition outright ignored. and then have the trauma that comes from having your actual self denied in every facet of your life treated as like, ‘woman lite’ or, more heartbreakingly, ‘easy mode.’

like it’s easy, being told from all sides “no you aren’t” when I have my proper pronouns posted every fucking where I can think of, personally and professionally, and there’s a 25% chance they ever get properly used and I ever get acknowledged as myself, because I still have my tits. that if I try to stand up for myself as often as I honestly should and deserve, I will be treated as a difficult and delusional woman. when people (usually cis men) threaten me with violence, it’s misogynistic violence. I am repeatedly misgendered as a woman when I try to see a doctor about anything to do with my uterine system that I did not choose and am actively trying to get rid of, because as long as I have it, people will overlook the part of me that is true for the part of me convenient to their system.

I am a scholar in my genre who specializes in researching the lenses of feminist and queer theory both. they have saved my life on multiple occasions when I did not have hope for my present. I have been aware of my place in the feminist struggle before I knew I was anything other than a woman. part of my gender struggle was a feeling of loss at realizing that maybe, actually, I wasn’t one, no matter how happy I am now in living authentically.

some of the most misogynistic people I have ever had the misfortune to meet are, in fact, cis women. me and the rest of the “theyfabs” are not the ones who are out here talking about “girl dinner” “girl math” “girl roman empire” “why did feminists fight for women to work I don’t want a job.” me and leaf and newt are not the people causing trad wives and stay at home girlfriends to do numbers on video apps. that is cis women. the majority of white cis women, demographically, tend to vote and pass legislature in anti-feminist ways, which is no surprise given the white supremacy involved there. but like. the call is still coming from inside the house, yet I don’t see them being reviled as perpetrators in these posts about feminism needing a revamp in the public eye. only deluded victims of the patriarchy who don’t know what’s good for them. which is also… not great, for misogynistic reasons.

In your opinion, why transracialism is rightfully invalidated and people can clearly see it as another way of white people exercise their white privilege but when it comes to transgenderism what count is how people perceive and identify themselves at an ultra personal level? This post opened my eyes to this insidious use of racial politics by white people on the left (unfortunately, it includes even the revolutionary left). I always have the sensation that race is taken more seriously than sex (and my experience with online black feminists spaces kinda contributed to this perception, tbh) but years ago I could finally see that isn't race that is taken more seriously, the anti racist politic started to be disputed among white people too! To them, black people aren't real people but rather argumentative tools. A good token to win debates and cover up their racism while they can throw white people they disagree/dislike into fire and still poses as white saviors.

Ships and kinks don't actually reveal how deeply one can enjoy or appreciate a story

I noticed that lately I have this small paranoia in my head that goes kind of like this: "I just experienced an amazing, deep, or wholesome thing. If I start shipping or sexualizing the characters this soon, that will make it look like I never cared about the story or characters or nuances or lessons etc. It'll be like I was only looking for wank material and never appreciated the truly great stuff about it."

And that's not true. It's never true in my case. And though I don't condemn people who may genuinely only care about the ships of a particular media they like, I personally DO care about the whole packages and I analyze media extensively, so I really don't want people to think that of me.

I haven't seen a lot of claims of specifically this, but I have seen sort of adjacent claims about proshippers. Usually goes something like, "It's really Concerning™ that proshippers can't recognize red flags of a predator / don't understand sibling love", as if their ships indicate the ultimate limit of their capacity to comprehend anything. And that's just ungodly wrong. It's almost awkward to see comments like that because it's so bizarrely illogical.

I remember one time, I had expressed the opinion that one of my favorite stories, while it did not contain any plots about incest or pedophilia, was so well-written that it would have handled those topics with grace and care if it had decided to include them. And someone accused me of "PURELY seeing it as sexual and getting off to it" as if I hadn't literally centered my comment on the capabilities of the writers, and had even said that I preferred the relationship as it is in canon. Nowhere in my comment had I even mentioned finding the ship hot or wanting it to be canon. I demonstrated that I was able to appreciate the canon material while shipping a problematic non-canon ship on the side, and people still chose not to see that.

And it's actually one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had with antis. If someone makes a shit claim to start the conversation, it's annoying, sure. But if someone purposely ignores or rewrites what I JUST SAID in order to make a shit claim, that makes my blood boil tenfold.

Couple example stories for me are Omori and Arcane, two very deep, meaningful stories with some very wholesome scenes too... which also happen to have problematic fanon ships that I enjoy exploring both for analysis reasons AND for horny reasons.

And I've seen people get genuine backlash for enjoying the wholesome side of a story purely for sfw E-rated reasons while also enjoying a creepy ship in a completely different space, in a completely different context. Or even just not caring if other people enjoy those things. "How dare you draw a child while being a proshipper!? You must be a creep!" a la this incident.

And now that I think about it, one reason someone may only see me horny-posting about something is because frankly those types of posts are easier to finish writing than a full essay about my intricate feelings about a plot. But then I find it embarrassing that I frequently fail to publish those essays because they would at least serve as proof that there's more to my enjoyment than just "sibling ship hawt".

Another reason is that I do manage to get those essay thoughts out, but unfiltered and ungrammar'd, to my friends. In servers or in DMs. Where I can express myself frantically and unpolished and still be fully understood. And if I say something that could be taken badly, I can just explain myself further instead of risking a sea of harassment BEFORE I have the chance to clarify something weird I said while jittering in my seat and flailing in excitement. With published essays about complex topics, I have to be VERY CAREFUL with my wording and quadruple-billion-check my posts, because I am aware that the internet gets enraged if you mention a thing and then don't give 20 disclaimers about every other possible interpretation of that thing.

Anyways.

Regardless of my probably unnecessary paranoia, I still recognize that everyone has a different reason for enjoying something. Everyone gets something different out of a positive experience. And it's not my job to judge and dictate which reasons are good and allowed and respectable. If something brings you joy, who am I to take that away from you?

Regardless if you enjoyed a show because of its plot or because of its "plot", there's nothing wrong about it. There's nothing gross or insulting about the way you enjoy things.

1. what’s the lie your character says most often

"it's whatever. Don't look into it." Wrong. Look into it so much. Technically not a lie, but it's the opposite of what ithvozal would actually want to happen, so it could be called a lie if u look at it at a 37 degree angle. The best way to describe it would be kind of a tsundere thing?? They just aren't used to being nice to people on purpose, so when they are they get a little cagey and annoyed about it.

As for real lies, they avoid them as much as possible. Things always get confusing when all the info doesn't line up, which is something they hate more than anything

Alriac doesn’t make a habit of lying, but out of everything he’s prolly lied most about his ability to just kinda. Turn into a merman on command. And everything related to that. He also lies quite a lot about where he goes to anyone that asks. He’s never said the same place twice.

3. how often do they show emotion to others versus just the audience knowing?

Ithvozal didn't grow up around a lot of new ish people, like travelers and whatnot, and most of the people they grew up with didn't have the expectation of performing emotions to the degree that most people would consider normal. Because of this they appear to be very stoic to the usual traveler or surface dweller. If you know them well it's very obvious that they emote quite a lot, if not as strongly. They're the type of character that gets accused of being emotionless and cold by the fandom

Oh alriac absolutely wears his heart on his sleeve. He's never concealed anything a day in his life and everyone he's ever known knows that. He cried because he accidentally startled a really cute fish. He cried because he thought birds didn't live any longer than a week. He's been absolutely ecstatic over a bee landing on his arm. He is so full of joy and whimsy that it's physically impossible to keep it all in.

9. do they give tough love or gentle love most often? Which do they prefer to receive?

Oh ithvozal gives only the toughest of love! When demonstrating it via things like gifts and actions it's very obvious that they're extremely thoughtful about what they're doing, but when it comes to more direct things like physical affection or thankfulness it's a lot harder to tell that it's love and not just how you'd affectionately bully a friend. They mostly use weaker punches when doing physical affection, but their version of a weak punch is the same as most people trying to actually fight. Hence a lot of the meaning kind of gets misconstrued with those. They prefer indirect things like actions and gifts, but they're not opposed to other types of love from the right people. They're used to tough love, but gentle love is also very appreciated.

Alriac doesn't necessarily have gentle love, per se, but it's not tough love. It's more extremely intense than anything else. Like when a cat loves you so much they're very strongly kneading against your leg, and like yeah those claws are digging into your skin like hell but theyre just so cute and sweet and they mean so well, so can you really blame em?? He needs to get told to calm down sometimes, but he doesn't mind. As long as he can still demonstrate his love he's happy. He likes it when people match his energy, no matter what type of love it is. Ithvozal is great friends with him for this reason! They get pretty close to matching it in his eyes.

12. what’s something that makes them laugh a little every time? Be specific!

Ithvozal doesn’t really surround themselves with things that would be considered funny/particularly joyful by most standards, but they always get a kick out of the dwarven automata being a little dumb. Between the spiders that are prone to falling off ledges and getting startled to the spheres that smack their heads on shelves, there’s plenty of things to laugh at with them. Alriac is also a rather large source of laughs for them :)

Alriac finds quite a few things laughable, but his favorite is when he messes with sailors as they panic over a ‘ghost’ on their ship(which is just him climbing up there and spooking people and messing with stuff lol). He collects jokes and stories to tell to Ithvozal as well, to try and get at least a smirk outta em! He’s gotta make up for lost time, since they didn’t become friends until about 100 years into their lives.

I've been on tumblr since 2014 so this is impossible lol, but the worst take I've seen on Mashblr is probably the take that BJ's antics in episodes like Dear Uncle Abdul, Bottoms Up, Joker is Wild, etc, are theraputic for Hawkeye, ie making him spiral in a safe environment/giving him an excuse to throw a tantrum which is good for him.

It just seems like, well first of all blatantly ott excusing of BJ's mean streak to justify characterizing him as a selfless perfect caretaker whose every action is done for Hawkeye's sake lol, which is just silly. Second of all it ignores like everything about Alan Alda's acting choices in those episodes in which he conveys frustration and exasperation rather than enjoyment. And it's also a horrifying take on therapy imo. Like tbf I usually have issues with characterizing like, interpersonal interactions between romantic partners as theraputic, which is a pretentious way of saying I don't like bdsm fic that frames it as therapy lol, but this also extends to anything else that's done for a character's own good.

I'm not saying it's always like, a bad fucked up mischaracterization of therapy ofc, or that even if it is no one should ever write it, I got no beef with people who enjoy fics like that and I can totally see the h/c appeal even if it wigs me out personally. But this take on BJ and Hawkeye's relationship is probably the most extremely wild and nonsensical example of that trend I've ever seen in any fandom.

Anything can bring up wildly rancid discourse if you're dedicated enough, I don't think I could possibly narrow this down to just one answer when literally any dumb petty fandom argument from top/bottom wank to ship wars to villaincourse to character popularity contests turns into accusations of any ism under the sun at the drop of a hat.

So just as a general answer: using social justice as a baton in petty fandom slapfights based solely on your favourite thing not being as popular, or other people liking something that you don't like. It's good to call out concrete examples of bigotry in fandom, ie offensive statements people type on their keyboards and post online, but imo it's incredibly transparent when people just default to assuming bigotry on the part of other fans because it's the easiest way to feel superior about your own preferences. I'm talking like, Rey/Finn shippers accusing Finn/Poe shippers of racism, het shippers accusing gay shippers of fetishization, lovers of the sole token female character in a sausage fest show accusing people who got into it for the gay ships and prefer to focus on them of misogyny, etc.

(Hey if you don’t want to have this discussion then it’s perfectly ok! :))

So personally as a leftist and a feminist I find it very hard to navigate online spaces that are left-leaning and also involved in media of any kind, because these types of people/communities often demonize and denounce things as "morally wrong" that I don’t necessarily agree with. A lot of this includes what would be considered "proship" fiction (as in themes of incest, abuse, pedophilia, necrophilia, etc) but also real life things like CNC, DDLG or age gaps.

My dilemma is I’m kind of torn between the two, because on one hand I’m a very big believer that adults should be able to do whatever they want with each other as long as it’s consensual & sane, and obviously fiction is not reality so you can’t apply real life morals and values to it, but on the other hand I know this often makes you look or sound like an abuser/pedophile apologist, and in the worst case, makes you seem unsafe to certain individuals.

Admittedly, I’m a little guilty of being prejudiced myself still, because for me it’s way more uncomfortable to talk about being anti-censorship when it comes to content like pedophilia, as opposed to graphic violence or even incest, even though all are fictional. This bias also extends to me disliking having to defend media that basically just portrays incest or pedophilia as "porn without plot", because it’s way easier to justify nuanced and complex fiction utilizing these topics having the right to exist, even though both portrayals are valid just the same and you can’t pick and choose.

I just wanted to know if you have any in-depth thoughts & views on this, or opinions about where (or whether or not in the first place) there should be lines drawn when it comes to fiction or tolerable/defendable relationship dynamics in real life. Hope this doesn’t bother you, if so just ignore!!

Apologies. This is going to get long. You brought up a lot I'd like to discuss.

First, I do want to tell you that it's okay to be uncomfortable. You're not somehow doing anti-censorship wrong just because you don't like certain pieces of media. No one is, or should be, telling you that you have to open up to reading or seeing stuff, just because you also don't think it should be scorched off the face of the Earth. These are uncomfortable topics. They are not for everyone. That's okay.

So, what we're going to do for the sake of this discussion is pretend that the internet isn't the way it usually is and instead that when we're discussing what to do about these topics, we are discussing actual portrayals of them and not say, 'this is a media/ship i don't like and therefore will accuse of being the worst thing i can think of.'

The most basic way to look at it, especially since you brought up real life relationship dynamics, is "Who is being harmed by this?" Incestuous abuse in real life is going to hurt the person being abused. Pedophilia is going to hurt the child being preyed on. Writing about these things, on the other hand, does not hurt anyone. If I post a fic about one character getting another drunk in order to rape them, when I'm finished with that fic, there will be no one waking up the next morning realizing they've been assaulted. They're only words on a page.

(You also brought up age gaps and BDSM dynamics such as CNC or DDLG, and these would follow the same logic. Who is being hurt? You may disagree with an age gap from the outside, but if the younger person is an adult, they have a right to their autonomy. (If they are a minor, I think the problem there is obvious. There is no consent there.) I'm making an assumption here that the kind of age gaps you mean are say, 18-25 year olds with people who are much older than them, and not 60 year olds shaking up with 80 year olds. If we say that someone who is 18-25 does not have the ability to choose the kind of relationship they want to be in, we risk drawing into question what else they have the ability to choose. For me, as a trans person, staring down the barrel of a gun that says 'you shouldn't be allowed to transition until you're 25', that is a horrifying prospect. Autonomy is a human right. The ability to make decisions, even poor ones, is a human right. The focus should be on creating support systems that allow for recovery for poor decision making, not taking away the ability to make any decision altogether. As for BDSM dynamics, if someone is getting hurt, that's not the fault of the dynamic. CNC has Consensual in the name for a reason; the whole point of proper BDSM is that both individuals want to participate in this roleplay. No one is harmed by consensual play.)

When I think about where the lines should be drawn in fiction, I think a lot about my own work. I write about the things you brought up, and I post them, and I go seek out similar works to read when I'm too tired or don't have the ideas to make it myself. I will defend the right for these things to exist until my dying breath. They are not pretty, they are not always written perfectly or in a respectful way nor were they intended to be in the first place, and sometimes, yeah, they are just weird porn. As a weird porn maker myself, you'd be surprised the level of thought that goes into what appears from the outside to be thoughtless horny writing. Somewhere, someone decided to create these things. That person is real. The things they are writing about are not. In drawing a line, any line, in what can be made, the only person that gets hurt is the writer who wanted to make it.

I see it get brought up a lot that everything should be allowed to be written except for "illegal things". Oftentimes, what this actually means is specifically just fiction including incest or minor/adult relationships (note: personally, I think it is reductive to call fiction about minors in sexual situations 'pedophilia'. I think this dilutes the term and is disrespectful to people who have actually been victims of sexual abuse as children.) which, yes, would be illegal in real life. But so would murder. We do not (or, god, I hope that isn't discourse going on under some rock I haven't uncovered yet) claim that it makes you someone who secretly wants to kill people if you write a murder mystery. Marvel movies aren't snuff films. Legality is a poor choice for how to determine what should be written about, and that's not even bringing up how being queer is still illegal most places in the world. (Note: Most discussions involving 'legality' will also default to American laws, due to the internet being highly Americanized. This is very frustrating for many reasons, but mostly because I think people's anger about potential fictional minors being harmed would be better spent against the actual real life laws that allow child marriage in the USA. You know. The real people being hurt in the real world.)

When I write or read dark fiction, (I speak only for myself since that's the only perspective I can offer. I can't claim to know why other people write what they do or even why they read what I write. No one can.) I use it as a way to engage with these things safely. I enter, let's call it The Box (or the Cage lmao), where I can write or read about whatever I want for as long as I'm comfortable. I can do as much fucked up shit as I desire to characters. And the minute I am no longer comfortable, I can exit The Box, and leave all of that shit in there. There's no need to keep engaging with it beyond my comfort zone. There's no need to even enter The Box if I don't want to. It's important to me to have this space that is free to enter and leave when I choose, because many times in my life, I have not had the choice to leave a bad situation. It's empowering to have control over how far I go. And I do play with fucked up shit in there, I have since I started writing as a kid. (Erase the myth that children are pure innocence unable to conceptualize of dark things without being corrupted by outside influences. it does not help them. it did not help me. people of all ages explore dark themes. they deserve space to do so, especially space where they will not be taken advantage of by bad actors, which is what will happen if they are forbidden from doing so in other spaces, they will go to less regulated ones and be hurt.)

(Note: a lot of the time when justifying dark fiction, people will say that it should be allowed because of those who are using it to cope with trauma, through writing or reading it. I'm not saying this isn't true and important. I'd just also add that that sets a precedent I don't enjoy, gating off these topics to those harmed by them and requiring those people to present proof of their trauma in order to write about them. I just don't think I should have to justify to online strangers through trauma receipts when I want to use Sam Winchester as my own personal stress ball. Anyone should be allowed to write about dark stuff, and their reason can be, "felt like it.")

You said about defending these topics, "on the other hand I know this often makes you look or sound like an abuser/pedophile apologist, and in the worst case, makes you seem unsafe to certain individuals." And for that, I can only say that you can't control people's perceptions of you. Especially people who are not willing to do any deeper reflection on why they want to lash out on the internet at other people who are not hurting anyone rather than focusing their energy on people in power who are. (What's that old refrain, "What we do in fandom is not activism".) These terms are so watered down that they as easily can be wielded to say 'you are supporting real life harm' as they are to say 'you enjoyed reading Twilight.' You clearly know that you are not these things, you are not dangerous, the same way that I know writing wincest doesn't make me a danger to my very real siblings that I love.

So, all that to say, I don't think that drawing a line on what people are allowed to write and post will help anyone. (Or even work. People will continue to make this stuff and they will just post it untagged or in other places.) Making sure we have things properly marked so that dark themes can be avoided by people who want to is a better approach. Focusing energy that's being spent on nonsense online on providing support for people actually being harmed in the real world is a much better approach.
