#pro-ship

People seem to have forgotten that "proship" was the Fandom norm for the longest time.
Only, it wasn't called proship. It was called ship and let ship. Or minding your own buisness.
If someone had a ship you didn't like or thought was gross, you would avoid them. If they drew art or wrote stories you didn't agree with or like, you would ignore them.
There were tags like smut, whump, and angst to tell people about things they might not want to read. And then dead dove: do not eat for taboo subjects and especially gritty fic.
Then people started to ignore that. Younger fans started to bully people because they disagreed with shipping certain characters. Whether it be because it "wasn't canon", they thought it was gross, or they just didn't like it.
These people began calling themselves "anti-ship"
Pro-ship became a label to show that someone was against anti-ship.
Eventually, the anti-ship movement began to die down. So do you know what they did? They started accusing people. Of being pedophiles, groomers, rape supporters, and more. All because they wrote or drew things that these people didn't like.
They began claiming that THEY were the Fandom norm, and that these "proshippers" were the bad people. They started claiming that proship stood for "problematic shipping"
Due to this, the term "pro-ship" is often misconstrued as to what it means. Many people don't even KNOW what it means.
It means "anti-censorship".
It means that we support someone's right to produce art, no matter how gross, no matter how taboo, no matter how "problematic"
Because it's not hurting anyone.
If it's something you don't want to see? Block the person. Block the tag. Say in your bio that you don't like it. That's what they're FOR!
This was discussed in earlier days of fandom.
"I wonder why people would read a story in a genre they don't care for, then take the time to let the writer know that sure enough, they didn't care for it. That would be like me going to a restaurant, ordering a slice of cherry pie, then asking that the chef be brought out so I can say "I don't like cherry pie, and I didn't like yours either." To continue this analogy into its usual fannish outcome, the chef would say "Well gee, lady, why did you order it?" And I'd say, "Are you questioning my right to order cherry pie?"
-Unknown 2002
Except now, it would be like the person who didn't like the cherry pie and ordered it anyways then demanded that no restaurant serve cherry pie because it was poison. Not only is it a ridiculous request, it's blatantly untrue.

It's really like:
Fic-cops: "It's ok to write about these topics, but you shouldn't romanticize them."
Others: "But how do you tell if a piece of fiction is romanticizing something or not?"
Fic-cops: "Oh, that's easy. If I personally like it, then it's not romanticizing. And if I personally don't like it, it is romanticizing."

Aaaah sadly, @meowmeowuchiha, it never ends there.
This has happened multiple times before.
They start off saying ‘oh we just want to ban the gross pedo shit :)’, which a lot of people can agree with.
And then they ban the underage stuff which is specifically talking about trauma and recovery.
And then they ban the noncon stuff, regardless of how it’s depicted.
And then they ban consensual nonconsent.
And then they ban BDSM and the furries.
And then they ban all the explicit stuff, which often involves specifically targeting queer content.
And the worst thing? IT DOESN’T WORK. It never works. It just makes triggering and explicit content harder to avoid, because now it’s floating about in the wild, like it is on Tumblr. I have encountered my specific triggers and squicks incalculably more times on Tumblr than AO3 because of this.
‘Slippery slope’ is a logical fallacy, but when you’ve seen it play out on Livejournal, FF.net, tumblr, and multiple other smaller sites, you get to know the warning signs.
[edited to remove the last paragraph re. the wannabe AO3 mod, as I don’t want to spread misinformation!]

Saw this on twitter and it's a very good read as to why you should never attack someone for what they write or draw. They're not romancing YOUR trauma, they're coping with their own.

The Pedophile Hunts in Progressive Spaces Were an Alt-Right Operation to Cause a Rift in Our Communities.
So, I need to talk about something for a minute that has been REALLY bothering me even though the drama about it is pretty much over. I'm stirring it back up because it's not sitting right on my soul. I know I'm gonna get flack for this but I don't care.
A few weeks ago someone started referring to an MTS user as a pedophile because he posted a picture of a teen sim in their underwear. However, the problem was that it was pretty much immediately a reason that he was targeted for a harassment campaign against him.
Which, no, we're not going to ruin a man's life over this. If you think I'm a bad person for that- the unfollow button is above. Block me. We Are Not Friends. Goodbye.
This isn't even about The Sims community, or at least not just about it. You've been tricked. I'm sorry but you have. This is obviously bigger than this ONE small drama but it's obvious that this is being used as a manipulation tactic on a macro level to create distrust and a way to break down people easily. And it's specifically henious since it's targeting queer people with propaganda which has historically been used to demonize them.
This sudden fear of pedophiles was a targeted effort by the far right to sow discord in the queer community and I can prove it.
Firstly, 4chan and other online arenas have been doing missions like this for YEARS. Some are successful and others aren't. They were responsible for the discourse surrounding whether or not being "bisexual" made you transphobic.
Second and MOST importantly, I NEED you to know about the alt-right group curiously named Gays Against Groomers. This group was created to undermine the queer community. They've regularly supported anti-lgbt bills and targeted schools. This group is a psyop.
The MO of these sorts of movements has ALWAYS been packaging harmful content in a way which would resonate with queer social media spheres to get them to claim it as their own and the propagate it. This is a MARKETING company. This was a MARKETING STRATEGY.
When you repeat a lot of these things, using the specific verbiage that you do, you're following the plans of people like Jamee Michell.
They specifically targeted areas that had large groups of young impressionable queer people who wouldn't already be familiar with the tactic of equating gays with pedophiles so that they would create a sort of panopticon. This is what has caused this "obsession with pedophiles" this was not an accident.
Hyper-vigilance of groomers, a hatred of pedophiles, was the place to start and then creating a ever-changing definition of what a 'groomer' was is just a long play to make things like 'being a drag queen' a stand in for pedophilia.
For people around you, in your fandom communities who are 'progressive' but seem overly obsessed with grooming. Fandom spaces are often targeted as they're overwhelmingly queer. We know for a fact that the proship debate came specifically from this sort of messaging.
Keep an eye on them. They might not be who you think they are. And if you're mad at me for saying this?
I'm sorry but I'm not afraid to align myself with some potentially terrible people to protect queer people from being falsely accused.

Do you ship to cope?
THATS OKAY!
Is your ship problematic/immoral
THATS ALSO OKAY!
As long as you keep your fantasies in fiction, no ship is wrong! have fun with fiction! if you think a pairing is cute, go for it!
You are valid! no matter what you ship! ⸜(♡'ᗜ'♡)⸝

With the Hazbin Hotel leak going around, as well as a certain person on this hellsite saying that any media containing SA is glorifying/fetishizing SA (or even CSA or RAMCOA), please know this is what you're doing.
You're making victims/survivors feel dirty and like their abuse was their fault.
You're demonizing talking about SA/CSA/RAMCOA, making it more difficult for victims/survivors to come forward.
You're making it more difficult for victims/survivors to cope, because some of them cope with exposure therapy.
You're pushing this idea that coping should be private, even though publicly coping can help a lot of people. Not everyone can draw or write, so they rely on OTHERS to make said content for them to cope.
And saying that someone is coping the "wrong way" is incredibly harmful, because what's healthy for them, may not be healthy for you and vice versa.
Victims/Survivors are not all uwu pure babies that have Normal Emotions™. Some of us are violent. Some of us romanticize what happened to us. Some of us are emotional. We need access to ways to cope with what happened to us. Fiction happens to be a great outlet, as long as it's not distressing to us.
And if you fucking DEMONIZE coping via fiction, whatever it is, you are making it MORE difficult on survivors.
We're allowed to openly cope. We're allowed to be angry. We're allowed to vent the complex feelings we have towards abusers.
Quit making us feel DIRTY and like it's OUR fault we were abused. Let Victims/Survivors COPE.

Sadly, either the OP or the post itself got terminated so it's gone from my blog now so I can't reblog but I'm gonna keep resending the message:
Do not spend your money on zines run by antis. Monetary transactions inherently give personal information to the people receiving them. Antis are not safe people to give your personal information to. Violence is part of their ideology. It's not an outlier, it's a consistent behavior that antis dox, stalk, verbally harass, physically assault, call the cops on, send bomb threats, and try to get people fired from their jobs or kicked out of their schools over fiction.
Do not give your personal information to antis.

Interesting how a 30k account releases a video full of abuse apologism and trying to normalize zoophilia in fandom yet the “pro-para doesn’t hurt anyone” crowd remains silent about it or even responds positively.
Almost like the entire point of pro-para is to create tolerance for abuse so you can get a slap on the wrist when you rape an animal or child.

Look.
You kids.
You children.
You immature beaver weasels.
You like to think you are all so high and mighty, so good or golden with your fanpol ways, trying to make people think exactly like you, and then the moment they go against you suddenly it's your rules or the high way...
You're not the one in the right.
Just because someone's mindset dares to be different. Dares to write something, draw something, headcanon something that doesn't align with your "uwu pure fluff" does NOT,
And I repeat
DOES NOT GIVE YOU AUTHORITY TO YELL, DOXX, DEFAME, OR SEND ANY KINDS OF THREATS/BAITS TO THEM!!!
Seriously. What is wrong with these children that think they can bar, ban, block people from fandom spaces just because they don't share your same mindset. Be it shipping, dark themes, or dark dark content.
If you are the type of person, who sends threats, baits, threatens to doxx, or harrasses people because they don't follow the "purity culture"
Fuck. You.
(it's not that hard to just ignore someone if you don't like their content)

Okay but you bring up how they can send people hate so casually, and I’m going to point out myself that like…the whole anti crowd is very cult-like. I don’t mean that in a derogatory way either, I mean literally
“Illegal or dangerous behaviors” (sending hate, death threats, all sorts of horrible things, stalking, etc.), “unquestioning faith” (every anti i’ve seen seems to really believe they’re in the right), “isolation and abuse of members” (i just fucking KNOW the anti space is a breeding ground for grooming and abuse. it reeks of “we’re better than those other guys. We’re the GOOD ones, so you can trust us :)” but if you say something out of line you’ll be targeted next. and i’m worried for the amount of antis who are minors and get deep into it), exclusivism (again, the whole “we’re right and anyone else who says otherwise is wrong and bad and deserves to die”)
The only missing characteristic I can think of is that the anti crowd lacks an authoritative leader, except anti space is already authoritative by default and the ‘leaders’ are anyone in the crowd with a lot of followers who they can influence
Not only is it incredibly frustrating what they do, it’s incredibly worrying :( i mean, every crowd has bad apples, but you can’t really compare proshippers (people who simply want to be left alone and enjoy fandom in peace) to antishippers (people who actively go out of their way to harm real people and prioritize fiction and objects over them in the name of survivors who don’t want that, which includes me)
I don't have anything to add to this. I agree with you.
