Wednesday, July 12th, 2023 ✧༚* °.

Finally, the last day of my third year is over. My exams becoming so prolonged and a bad group project partner definitely tired me out so I couldn't wait to just be done with today. I pulled an all nighter last night to meet my deadline today so my routine got pretty messed up. I took a nap as soon as I submitted my work though.

Daily To-Do: - Color and render the sheet (This took so much of my time.) - Compile all the museum files as presentation - Compile all the personal projects - Submit projects by 04:00 PM (FINALLY)

I'm freeeee. I'm giving the next two days to rest and self care and will be doing more productive things after~ My game backlogs are looking at me, yes. I'll see to those soon >:D Also I finally succumbed to the marketing and bought "It ends with us" my friend says It can be a tearjerker but we'll see! Sooooong of the day, more like song of the week. I love this song and I can't stop listening to it lately. I might cover it if I find the motivation to!! Let's listen to "Maple Syrup" by "Backseat Lovers"

Footnote: I ended up having a whole fight with that group project's partner... man. people suck.

chaotic academia -or, my experience going to a public élite highschool

a building so big and old everyone calls it hogwarts

a building so cold and dark it scares you

the library is the biggest one you've ever seen but it's so imposing you're afraid of asking for a book

the outside is decorated with statues of the historical figures that attended the same school you are in now. you wish to someday be as great as them

you go to the toilet for the first time on the ground floor and you see a series of inscriptions on the walls discussing the correct conjugation of a verb

people making jokes in latin you can't understand yet, but you'll be making the same jokes a year later

you go to the toilet again, now on the second floor, and see "don't cry, it's just an exam" written on the wall. you wonder if that person wrote it for themselves

you learn about the mysteries of this school. apparently there were secret underground passages connected to the neighboring church and who knows what else. now you want to see them for yourself, too

having to study 5 languages, 2 of wich are dead. and if you feel like that isn't enough there are also 3 other optional language classes

during finals weeks, you walk out to the corridors and see people crying. "it's just an exam" you think to yourself, but you also want to cry

in the mornings, the whole school smells like coffee and everyone looks like they just slept 3 hours (they probably did)

during winter you can see the sunrise through the windows iluminating the historical buildings of the city

you thought you were going to get bullied for being a nerd but everyone is actually a nerd here. even the jocks are nerds

the main hall is filled with political statements and poetry such as "you can cut all the flowers but you can't stop spring from coming" (pablo neruda)

the authorities abusing their position makes you want to start a revolution

people always mistake you for a member of the school choir because you dress like you're about to act a scene from Les Misérables

you made a plan to survive all these years alone but somehow ended up making friends and learnt that crying isn't that bad, actually. especially if you have someone listening to you, or even someone else crying for the same reason

it's okay, you'll get through it.

(as a cs kid i’m ABSOLUTELY projecting onto my little headcanons about him)

i think..he’d be a NORMAL person that enjoys programming more than learning abt computer hardware or theory

seeing as he’s normal he’d HATEEEEE object-oriented programming (the complex part of programming OUGHGG)

he’d probably know exactly what to minor in for his dream job: music production

he’d DEFINITELYYY be in the school orchestra as a piano

he’s not mysterious enough for a bass, annoying enough for a violin or trumpet, or quirky enough for a cello

he’s an attention whore he wouldn’t even LOOK at the violas 💀

but yeah overall i think he’d know his plans for the future down to a T

probs has an internship at microsoft (derogatory)

would he be a tech bro?

for those that aren’t as familiar with tech bros

just imagine a redditor alpha male with horribly gelled hair that brings the LOUDEST gaming pc to class with a horribly oiled, light-up keyboard, and makes sleazy comments about the one or two girls in every comp sci class

in other words: a woman in cs’ worst nightmare (send help i’m one of TWO girls in a class full of tech bros.)

im now in my fourth year of uni studying cs -- 2 weeks away from finishing my last semester (it's hell week,,, pls pray for me) and im?? excited?? scared?? i dont have a job offer lined up atm but it's only april and grad is in june if i pass all my finals ;;

1) why did you decide on your major/degree title?

I got into uni as an honors English major, currently doubling in French as well. I spent lots of time in French classes in HS but I didn’t truly fall in love with French until uni, my 2nd quarter of intermediate in particular. I love the culture, the film, the philosophy, and the music; it truly meshes well with my academic areas of concentration.

As for English, ever since the beginning of high school I wanted to study English. I knew it was gonna be my prime area of study when I took AP English Language & Composition my junior year of HS, and I instantly fell in love. I got a 5 on the exam and the AP English Lit&Comp one as well. Shakespeare is the main reason why I love English literature and rhetoric. His artistry and legacy is amazing. I’m prelaw at the moment, and it’s a great undergrad to supplement my future JD. Below are some pics of when I went to visit the (authentic!!) copy of the First Folio housed at my uni since the 1980s:

Have you ever had days when you didn’t want to study and quit everything because of laziness? How did you force yourself to study? I'm a little scared for my future if I can't overcome laziness

Hi, yes, I remember you!

Back in hs I only studied off Polish textbooks, so I don't really have anything to recommend on a school level, but if you're not afraid to venture a little further, I'd recommend Chemistry: Molecules, Matter and Change by P. Atkins and L. Jones. I used it a lot during my first semester of uni and I think it was a nice link between high school and uni. It's a beast of a book, but it covers pretty much all of chemistry (on a "first semester" level of course) and there are tons of diagrams, pictures, and tips on how to solve numerical problems. It's very popular, so there's a high chance it has a Russian translation too :)

If you're interested in popsci books, I'd highly recommend The Disappearing Spoon and Caesar's Last Breath by Sam Kean. I enjoyed them both very much.

But also, there's a girl from Belarus in my year who often uses Russian textbooks and she's very content with them, so maybe it's worth asking your chemistry teacher or a librarian? They might know of some hidden gems :)

Truth be told, I'm fairly disciplined with studying, so I'm afraid I don't have any good tips on dealing with laziness. But I think we often say "lazy" when in fact we mean "tired", "overwhelmed" or "discouraged".

I don't consider myself lazy, but I can definitely get tired, overwhelmed or discouraged sometimes. There's plenty of advice on studying when tired circulating around studyblr, but I believe the most productive thing you can do when you're exhausted is to rest and without shame at that. Whenever I'm overwhelmed by a particular task, I start by studying something else, then return to the more difficult topic.

As for getting discouraged... I think it's a matter of one's mindset. Chemistry is hard, failure is common, and I'd be a liar to say my own shortcomings don't bother me. They do! But I've been learning to just move on. I give myself one afternoon to recover if I need to, then remind myself the only way not to mess up is to do absolutely nothing, and that in the end it's all about learning and enjoying this precious opportunity to be in uni and to study science. That's what keeps me going (and what's probably a big component of my discipline).

So, don't get too comfortable calling yourself lazy 😉 Always try to see what the real problem is. Those are usually much easier to solve than "laziness". Good luck! 🍀

well hello there studyblr intro tag followers! my name is posy and i’m really excited and a little nervous to finally start my own studyblr for this school year and would love it if you followed along while i figured things out :)) a little about me!

me! my name is sage, she/they lesbian, 18 years old, usa based. this is a secondary blog, my main that i follow/interact from is @posycore

academics! i am a former early college program student so i graduated hs with an AS, so i’m a first year at my uni but also kinda a junior? i’m now majoring in linguistics! and i plan to go to grad school for speech-language pathology :)

interests! sociolinguistics, communication disorders, language acquisition, cognitive science, equity in health care, disability studies and therapy methods that aren’t traumatic, sign languages and Deaf culture, and so many languages but i’m still only fluent in english (rip)

hobbies! knitting, astrology, hanging out with my cat, i mean what else is there

goals! for now, i wanna push myself to network and take advantage of campus resources and self advocate in general - and of course the best possible grades and to be in clubs! long term, i wanna be an SLP, i wanna work with kids in a clinical setting, i want to make a safe space for children with disabilities to find their voice and especially want to advocate for mute, selectively mute, and otherwise nonverbal kids, because i don’t think speech therapy should just be about forcing people into speaking :)

studyblr??? yeah i don’t know man i never thought i’d have the style or motivation to post in the oh so aesthetic studyblr community but i really wanna be here!! so at the very least expect textpost updates on my academic pursuits, maybe some rambles on how cool some classes are, and hopefully i can get around to some cute photos to post with them - including pics of my cat :)

Thursday, July 13th, 2023 ✧༚* °.

Hello! I'm changing the format of my daily journals a little, the content will be the same as before. Except for the time being I'd like to change my to-do list to a "Done Today" list as I don't want to plan things strictly for a while as I rest after an extensive exam season~ In other news, my book is here and I will start tomorrow! I spent most of today laying around and catching up on some abandoned projects and hobbies!

Self care! I took a long bath and put on some face masks >:3

ST projects! I had been on leave from staff work since 10 days ago as things had gotten more hectic but I'm getting back to working on things again.

Games! I played Siiiiims! I had missed my main family so much! one of my sims accidentally got pregnant and they also adopted a floofy catto.

Sketching! Just some simple-absent-minded-stuff scribbled on paper but good enough!

I need to text my friends cause I abandoned my social life for a while there and need to go say sorry and stuff now. damn. Also I'm gonna order some food rn cause I am starving and there's nothing here twt Today I listened to "Waterfalls" by "Cécile Corbel" a bunch. This song is the type of song you'd dance to in the middle of a field.

I am going into my third year of college, majoring in graphic design

I have been on tumblr since I was 12 and have really been lurking ever since

Constantly stuck between wanting to homestead and wanting to be a big time city gal lol

Why am I starting this blog?

I have always admired the study community, but never felt that I quite fit in with it. My life is definitely not very aesthetically pleasing and each day is a battle with keeping up with a routine because of my ADHD. Therefore, there are a few reasons as to why I am starting this blog:

Keep myself disciplined and motivated: I want to build a stronger routine in my life.

To be a relatable presence: I want to be a blog you can relate to, to show people that life isn't always perfect, social media is fake, and you don't always have to have everything together because I sure as hell don't

To be honest with myself: This will also serve as a place where I can journal and put out all of the thoughts in my head, because I feel like i'm going crazy if I don't get them out. I am creating a safe space for myself to be honest.

Hobbies:

I LOVE anything art related, whether it be art history, or anything else. My favorite period of art is impressionism/post impressionism

I'm picking up on film photography and I LOVE it sm. My university actually has a darkroom and it is my favorite thing ever.

I play the trumpet in my school's marching band

I love alternative/indie music

Im trying to get back intro reading but finding time is hard lol

I used to do a lot of theater in HS and I still love it :)

The past 2 years I have already taken some introductory art courses, art history courses and basic classes on adobe software and typography as well as the general education courses for my school.

This upcoming fall semester I will be taking:

History of Graphic Design

Physics

Physics Lab

Marketing

On top of this I will also be memorizing music for the marching band and I will be picking up the Korean Language again. I tried learning it a couple years back and have always admired the culture and language, but then my mental health got in the way and covid happened and so I kinda fell behind and eventually didn't have time. I got to about the intermediate stage I'd say?

Goals:

My idea is to keep each of these attainable because I have a habit of overwhelming myself lol. I have ADHD so routine is very hard for me but I am starting this blog to keep myself motivated so hopefully it helps :)

Keep a journal

Work out at least 5 times a week

finish the korean duolingo tree

(This is a bit more long-term lol) graduate Summa Cum Laude

I will also be writing down a more solid routine once I get the hang of it.
