Autism is funny, one moment your like "I'm fine this is fine I'm actually so great I wonder if I even have autism or if I'm gaslighting myself" and then the tiniest change happens and you're all like askebhdbejsvfbdied

I hate that I'm considered "high functioning". I barely qualify for any "level" of disability in my country and I will never get a disability income. Yes. I'm able to go to work. But I will not be able to hold it for more than a few months before getting burned out and having daily meltdowns. No, having 10 minutes extra work break won't help me. Neither will wearing headphones or carrying fidgets. I'm literally not able to work 40h a week without severe negative consequences... How do i fucking exist in this society!

High functioning doesn't mean your disability is easy or doesn't impact you. It just means your disability doesn't make you useless to Capitalism. I have ADHD and Autism and am considered "High Functioning" because I can speak and hold down a full time job, but it's so exhausting to just barely do this that I basically can't do anything else. 100% of my free time is spent recovering from work, I have no hobbies, almost no friends, and I'm not close to my family because I don't have the time or energy for the actual life that my job is supposed to enable me to live. I am not "High Functioning", I am barely holding myself together.
I am invisibly disabled. The impact of my disability is not seen or respected by able society and so I am given a label that sends the message, "I am diagnosed with a disability, but it does not disable me." This message is a lie that forces me to overexert myself in the name of Capital.
My disability is not easy to live with. I can work, or I can be happy, but I cannot do both, and I am so, so tired.

autism is so fucking hated, you arent allowed to be high functioning because youre "faking it", you arent allowed to be low functioning because youre "faking it" and all of us are expected to just try harder and "stop acting stupid" (which is extra insidious when intellectual disabilities are so commonly comorbid with autism)
oh you need some help with getting things done? grow up
oh you need someone to remind you to shower/take meds/etc? grow up
oh youre nonverbal/nonspeaking or lose speech at times? just Talk
oh you Cant Eat unless its This Specific Food? grow up
oh you dont understand when something is dangerous? stop being stupid
oh you need lots of help with bADLs? youre a leech. do it yourself
oh you need a caregiver in order to keep yourself alive? youre so dramatic, everyone else manages just fine without one, why cant you?
oh you can get around for the most part in day-to-day life but need extra support in some areas? youre just exaggerating, youre not really autistic
autistic people are literally never allowed to just exist in society. we are always expected to prove something, whether thats being autistic or being human beings that deserve respect
youre either not autistic enough or too autistic for allistics and its really fucking annoying. autism is a real disability and those of us who are autistic live with it every single day. it can be extremely disabling or it can be a bit of a nuisance or it could be both or somwhere in between or fluctuate depending on the day
stop shaming autistic people for being autistic in a way you dont like or arent used to seeing. that goes for everyone, other autistic people included

Undiagnosed autistic culture is obsessing over the topic of autism, feeling validated by the incredible similarities in your own life, relating to every autistic individual in some way or another, fulfilling most if not all DSM 5 criteria on ASD, taking every autistic test you could find online all confirming you are very likely autistic...
...but still end up doubting you even have it.

This is the DUMBEST SHIT I have ever seen, so congratulations! You win a prize and the prize is apparently "myling unwisely picking fights".
AS A LEVEL 1 autistic person I say this unto you: Shut up. Sit down. Listen to higher support autistics. If you're so scared to be seen as disabled that you have to deny how autism is the direct cause of people's disability, there's always just the possibility of masking. I don't like saying that, because I think it's perfectly possible to both be autistic and to not be disabled in any way, but I despise these attempts from fellow low support autistic people to distance the disorder from those who are actually disabled. It stinks of ableism.
ASD isn't a mental illness. It is a developmental disorder. Feel free to explain how homosexuality being seen historically as a mental illness maps onto a developmental disorder that is frequently both intellectually and physically disabling.
Sometimes, there's actually a good reason to have a name for a group of symptoms! Such as the fact it makes it easier to get help.

"high-functioning" autism is like driving a manual car. you can go as fast as an automatic, but it's arguably more work.

I don't remember who said it but whoever suggested to use "high masking" and "low masking" instead of low and high functioning i love you so much. Its the only words I feel really work for me. I was diagnosed with "high functioning autism/aspergers" which the 1st one just didnt fit me i felt bc it just isnt true and the 2nd word has nazi history so um no thanks. Lots of people use low and high support needs now but those don't work for me either. Like i would be considered low support needs i guess but I do need lots of support with daily things i definitely do not have low support needs if i take the definition litterally. I am high masking.
High masking suggets that i look like i am high functioning and okay although i am not and that's very validating

Happy Autism Acceptance MONTH!
Whether you have high or low functioning autism,
Whether your officially diagnosed or not,
When you're tired of people saying that "there's no way you can be autistic,"
And you're tired of hearing people say "there's a little autism in everyone,"
For those that know there's something up with yourself but can't get an official diagnosis and doesn't want to self diagnose,
To those who label their autism under a different name,
And those who confuse their autism for something else (and vise versa)
To those that need assistance with daily living tasks,
And those whose obsessions consume your mind,
To those who have been called "weird," "rude," and an "old soul,"
To those who've had sucessful friendships and relationships,
And those who have had trouble making friends and being in social settings,
To those who are highly empathetic,
And those who feel nothing towards people at all,
To those who are pros at masking,
And those who struggle to talk and look at people in their eyes,
To those that don't tick off or relate to every autistic experience,
And those who may experience other things I can't put into a post without it getting super long,
And a special shout out to those who are always known as being "so quiet"
Whether you take pride in it or not, I know you're out there, and I love you (no romo)
And another special shout out for those who've been into dragons since literally forever :)

Please Stop.
I wish I didn’t have to make this post, but it’s happened to me too many times for me not to say anything. Please stop telling people to kill themselves because you disagree with them.
Please stop telling people to self harm because you don’t believe what they believe.
Please stop telling people they are not valid or needed in the world because they are standing up for their beliefs.
Please stop telling people to disregard themselves to make you feel comfortable.
Please stop spreading hate and promoting bullying because you don’t have a good argument.
Please stop degrading people because you feel like they are wrong.
Please stop ganging up on people because you dislike a ship.
Please stop demonizing people on posts that aren’t even related to the problem your talking about.
Please stop going into spaces that are not meant for you and harassing the users.
Please stop invalidating medical and/or mental health issues because of something they cannot control.
Please stop sending hate to authors because you don’t like what they write.
If you do these things, YOU are the problem, YOU are the hateful one. YOU are the issue. YOU are the outlier, YOU are in the wrong. It should be common sense. If you don’t like something, you scroll away, you block the tag, you politely explain your position, you block the person. You DO NOT create a hostile environment. Shame on you. Shame on all of you.
And if you agree with this, remember it goes both ways. Whatever you believe there is someone on the other side you need to respect enough not to do these things. We’re all just human.

Chronically tired
I hate how autism somehow makes me tired all day everyday 24/7. It's often after finishing small tasks my tiredness hits me like a brick.
1. Going for a walk?= tired 2. wanna go the mall?= tired upon arrival 3. wanna go grocery shopping?= tired 4. Oh you wanna go for a car ride=tired 5. Oh you wanna bake a cake?= tired I also somehow manage to only feel like a fully functioning human being for like 2-4 hours a day or less. These days i'm also so burnt out i don't have the energy to do stuff i actually love and are passionate about.. and not having something to hyperfixiate on makes my feel empty inside.
A thing that also makes me feel burnt out is when i accidentally say yes to something i don't want to because i panic. Then i have to gather the courage to call back and say i'm not able to come.

It kinda hit me last night, Mr. Darcy is all grumpy and "taciturn" at the ball with all that people and noises and conversations around, but all my man wanted was some headphones, they just weren't invented yet.
