Part 40

Ok so I've slept on it and have a few thoughts now.

First, I'm glad HG decided to tone down the emotional intensity of drama and tragedy - I thought it's gonna be difficult to listen to the finale after some s3 episodes, but s4 was mostly ok and the finale turned out to be lots of fun! I was smiling widely for the most of it. It even made me somewhat like Kayne! A little bit but still!

Second, we didn't "see" Noel die - great, he lives until proven otherwise. Arthur survived a similar injury, people in this universe are surprisingly durable. Noel lasted this long with a neck injury and didn't die - if Kayne didn't yeet him to some wilderness or worse, he'll live. Possible to pol up later.

Third, I thought Arthur was robbed of all his newfound allies, but I was wrong. Daniel and Marie are still in the picture, so Arthur has human "anchors", he's not alone anymore.

Who Arthur WAS robbed of, are allies who can go with him. Oscar is in the hospital and is abandoned in general, Noel... who knows where, and the surprising newcomer in Butcher's face is obliterated. It reminds me of how a lot of official "uncanon" spin-offs of different show return to status quo in the end of he series because they need to keep the cast the same and otherwise the whole outline of the show may change a lot. I'm not sure if that's the case with Malevolent since... yeah, we had a full season of a wider range of characters, but they were concentrated in the same location, which was convenient. How would this work in other cases? Plus, Arthur and John wete going on a vacation trip without anyone else anyway. Also, damn you Kayne for ruining this! They deserve the vacation!

So all in all we're back to where we started, more or less. It was a neat wrap up of the season, together with the location, new characters, some side quests and even a few answers (wild, I know).

For instance, now we know Yellow actually WAS the King in person. Seems like John is rather a big piece of him if Arthur didn't even notice any difference in the entity at first. I kinda liked my idea that Yellow might have been Kayne's creation completely, a simulacrum just for funsies, because Kayne's idea of fun is cruel. So there would have been Arthur suffering from loss of his dear friend and dealing with this ye olde version if him, John suffering either in Dreamlands or in the Dark World, and Yellow, suffering from all the confusion regarding his identity. Imagine how painful it is after all the efforts to remember, to be what you think you were, just to find out that you never were in the first place. All the "I AM THE KING" gone sour and groundless. That might have broken a newborn consciousness of Yellow, his adopted identity. But he also could have explored it and become something new altogether. Man I'd like to read a fic like that.

But he's the KiY, which is why not, too. He has some new info to work with. New lasting impressions to process. I bet those little adventures in the human world and time with Arthur, time with Larson, short and heated but still... connected argument with John won't go without a trace. Damn I wanted them to talk properly SO BAD and now we're unlikely to get it, ever 😭 But at least there was John, clearly uneasy with the idea of killing Yellow. I don't think it's just his concern about himself vanishing as well. He souned rather sympathetic towards Yellow when they talked about him with Arthur. This warms my heart.

Right. There are 3 things related to this.

John's attitude towards Yellow and the King (Yellow still has amnesia so I can't consider him the King, the personas are different) in pt 40, towards the complete separation from them reminded me of going full no contact with abusive/toxic family. It's hard, and one would often wonder if they survive on their own. Arthur having faith in him didn't ensure anything but helped, I think.

The King and John are fully separated now, so John must be safe-er (if Kayne didn't lie) and his journey is more his now. It isn't even remotely perfect since he's still stuck with Arthur but it's still good news. And I believe they don't have to worry about the King anymore. If he regains his memories, he'll know John is of no use to him anymore, and there's no use to try and hunt these two down since they'll win SOMEHOW eventually, anyway. They have powerful patrons. *wink wink*

Maybe some time later, like, muuuuch later, they will be able to talk properly. Like equals. To exchange experience, impressions. The King values art and knowledge, and so does John. I believe his curiosity is an inherent trait they both share. C'mon. The King is too possessive to let such a chance go. GIMME THEIR CONVERSATIONS I NEED THESE

Also, I'm concerned about Larson. Sure he's half-dead (seriously, 3 gunshot wounds in the body - stomach and back, - strangulation, eye snatching, and he's STILL alive, can he just roll over and die please? As a treat?), but physical form has never been his forte anyway. He successfully brainwashed Yellow and tried to do the same to John (ahaha that was a funny attempt, well, would have been, be John not losing himself at the moment, but the outcome was still pretty much predictable and laughable), his power is in his mind. His words are poison, and he can still speak. I am NOT ok with that. With what he can do to Yellow/the King. What if he talks him into something terrible again. Leave my bby be ffs, Yellow deserves some peace and quiet of his home in Dreamlands. Seriously, Larson is terrible to children and I've said it multiple times that Yellow really reminds me of a rebellious teenager.

Next, I've missed the first 5 minutes or so, so I don't know if it's relevant, but CAN SOMEONE PLEASE explain to me like I'm 5 what was up with the Butcher? It was the most out of blue twist ever. Why did he agree to help? Why did he go against Larson when he was so persistent before? I understand maybe admitting defeat and a respect towards Arthur and Noel who caught him, but helping? Was he promised to be set free of smth? I'll relisten fron the very beginning but uh will it really clear thus up?..

Also. When I said "some answers", it was really just a few. We still have no idea what's up with the 3 soldiers, that woman in the woods, the stone. Is Kayne going to show something about that?

And do we just leave the ultimate purpose, the separation device, sitting in that underground place, just like that?

And I did NOT like how defeated, lifeless Arthur sounded when he agreed to go with Kayne. What's the big deal?? He KNEW John was hiding something, knew it was important, could deduce there was some lie due to Johns intense interest in white lies topic, and it wouldn't have been a stretch to assume John really DOESN'T LIKE lying to him if it can be helped and wouldn't harm them (intentionally). Which, it couldn't. All this, prior to Kayne's appearance. All that conversation did was fill in the blanks. Now Arthur has a clear picture. John didn't say anything that could put a blame on himself. If anything, his actions and behavior make so much more sense now. Arthur is WELL aware about the fact that being left alone in the Dark World is John's WORST fear that came true and lasted. It was one thing to end up there the 1st time. Terrible, traumatizing, but how much WORSE it is to be thrown there again after John learned what it's like to NOT be alone, to be himself? To have hope? Just to lose it all. He called to Kayne only after a long time, when there was nothing to hope fore anymore and he could stand it any longer. Did he hope for Arthur to find him? Even if just a little? Just for that to never happen? And then Arthur's words in the mines, about "let's find each other there". Damn, my heart 💔

I understand Arthur may be somewhat shoked and there was no time to process, but if he's gonna be bitching up bout ANY of that, I'll be angry.

It just. It's the only explanation I can find for why he sounded so... like he gave up. Like the backbone he was relying on betrayed him. When none of that actually happened.

The word seems to get stuck malfunctioning somewhere between his brain and his mouth, as he blinks tiredly, still trying to figure out where the fuck he actually is.

“Oh you know”, gestures around with the folded magazine in his hand, “just uh, makin sure the scientists don’t, like, cart you off to, a- a different secret lab or somethin”

Lab? His tongue is dry and sticking to the roof of his mouth. Scientists? Billy’s brain fuzzily processes what Harrington’s insinuating, the alarm creeping up slowly.

“…..That’s a concern?”

“Oh yeah, big time. Also you’re lucky you woke up when you did, Nancy was supposed to take over next watch shift, and she’s not NEARLY as uh…..chipper as I am.”

“That so.”

“Yeah, no, I think Click-clack is givin her guff for some thing she submitted? I don’t know, she’s tetchy.”

“Have no idea what that means, also quick question-”

“Yeah”

“What the fuck is goin on?”

Harrington’s eyebrows raise as he puffs his cheeks and blows out a big breath,

“Oh jeez man, I don’t think I have enough- fuckin like, brain power to get into the whole thing right now-“

Lair? where are they? Harrington doesn’t seem that married to the petulant shit he’s saying anyway, it feels like it’s more just to have something to do. In any other situation Billy would feed the fuck into this, enjoy every button he’s pushing, but FUCK is he tired. His whole body feels like fuzzy static. Fuzzy achy static.

“She’s helping Murray set something up for you”

“What?” His face kinda hurts when his brows twist, giving up his half-assed attempt at sleep.

“Nancy,” he clarifies, “we had a whole exit strategy to get you outta here when you woke up. Get you like, back on your feet and fuck off into the sunset or whatever Max thinks you where gunna do”

“…….Why are you doin all this?” It’s barely a question really, more like a blank murmur, devoid of any inflection that could give Harrington the slightest hope of gauging Billy’s emotional state.

Steve heaves another slow measured breath, and looks slightly away from Billy, as if to try to remember why himself.

He blinks a few times, makes a vague shrugging gesture with like, the upper half of his body, then shakes his head a little, “Cause fuck these guys.”

Billy almost choked a little, deigning to open his eyes again and glance over.

“Yeah?” He asks with an audibly and visually confused smile, like he’s trying not to laugh at the ridiculous nature of Steve’s statement.

“Yeah, everything’s been their fault for like three years now. I’ve fought shit I wouldn’t put my worst enemies against. Fuckin vile.” He slumps back a bit, “You’re a dick, but like,…” he doesn’t seem to really have much of an answer past that, “Fuck em.”

[Robin walks in]

“What are we talking about?” She sounds like a mix of horrified, delighted, and grossly intrigued.

Steve makes a wide sweeping gesture at her, “THATS WHAT I SAID!”, and looks pointedly back at Billy, as if to say, ‘There, see?’

“Oh, he has no problem getting dates-“ completely disregarding and breezing past Billy’s direct insult to her dateability

“The fuck, Rob-“

“Oh yeah?” He smiles, encouraging whatever sly shit she’s onto.

“I own a bike, dingus, and I have functioning legs.”

His eyebrows screw together, “You live like, ten minutes by car from here- whaddoyoumean you ‘rode your bike’, it’s like 90 degrees out-“ he flings an arm out towards the windowless wall.

“Jeez, okay mom, I-“

“Have you had anything to drink? Are you even wearing sunscreen?”

“I’m fine! It’s nice out-“

“It’s the middle of august !”

“Heat strokes not a joke Bobbin, you can get-“

TBH it hasn't been getting a lot of comments or interaction lately, so I wasn't sure if people were still following it or really thinking about it much D: I definitely am going to continue and I have pretty solid plans up through about Chapter 13, but I got caught up in good old Adult Things (got a car part stolen and had to speedrun finding a job, and by some insane miracle I landed a good one???) and had to sorta get my life together for a while. I was also pretty bummed and discouraged that the Elimetri fandom kinda fizzed out after S5, and the hype that was there after S3 and S4 seems few and far between these days </3 And when someone DOES show up and get hyped about my boys, it always seems like they get bored after like 2 weeks and vanish into the ether again D: I feel like an immortal roaming the ruins of a once great and thriving civilization akjsalksufhdulrh

BUT ALL THAT TO SAY this is really encouraging <3 <3 Love that people are still invested, and now that my life has stabilized a bit, I may actually get Chapter 7 done ^^; The canon Mexico plotline was the most underwhelming thing I've ever seen in my entire life (and Season 5 as a whole and I just...did not really Vibe for a lot of reasons), and it's frustrating because like!!! Why would you introduce this grand epic quest for Miguel to find his dad and learn about his Dark Past™️ and then have it be over in 5 minutes and reveal nothing interesting whatsoever about Hector!!! Like if the point was to have Johnny prove he could be a good father figure to Miguel after all and to cause conflict between Miguel and Sam, then there were like...ways to do that without yeeting Miguel to another country with no ultimate character development or narrative payoff :/

And they really expect me to believe Miguel and Robby sat in petty stony silence the whole several-hour drive home and didn't even try to talk through ANY of their issues??? Didn't have ANY road trip bonding whatsoever??? WHAT A FUCKING WASTE. LAME.

ANYWAYS. I know a lot of people were against the Mexico subplot from the jump (mainly because of the potential problematic directions the show could go with it I think), but I might have been in the minority in being excited for it and thinking it had a lot of potential to see a world outside the Valley. Potential which it...did not fill at all. Like at least show us what sketch-ass shit Hector actually DOES!!! My god!!! Also not Robby being like "I wanna make things right with Miguel!!!" and then...clearly not doing that. Like considering their apartment brawl later was the first time Robby has shown onscreen remorse for what he did to Miguel, Robby didn't even apologize in the car ride on the way back??? Or speak a single word to Miguel about the whole, like...Paralysis Incident??? For all Miguel knows, Robby was tagging along just for kicks ajhdsukhfuyh

The whole thing is a mess tbh. I blame rushed production for S5. Deadass thank god for the writer's strike??? Maybe with more time for the writers to actually do their jobs, S6 will give its plotlines some room to breathe.

SO YES, long story short, I wanna do this plot thread some justice and also have my OTP be gay as shit the whole time <3 And give Miguel the epically dangerous adventure of self-discovery he deserves while ultimately still showing him he is very loved and does not need his shitty biological dad!!! Do you think that I’m season 5 we’ll find out why Rayla came back. I mean she kinda just showed up. Also, do you think some traumatic thing happened to her? If so, what do you think it was?

Given that S5 is likely going to be Ocean and Callum by the end of S4 has going through his initial block and will likely be way more willing to talk / expressly want answers in S5, I think so, yeah!

Also yes, I 100% think that something traumatic happened to Rayla during her time away, if not a few things. Keep in mind that everything she’d been through from S1-S3 and TTM — turning against Runaan, almost losing her hand, almost losing Callum, almost dying times like five, being Ghosted by everyone, the nightmares and PTSD, etc — were not enough to take away her core ‘saviour complex’ (for lack of a better term) that she had in early S1 and all the way through S3. 

Now, in S4, we see she’s shut that part of her down - eerily reminiscent of the way Callum has heavily emotionally repressed his own ability to feel. For any other character, leaving the drake in the forest wouldn’t be out of character (Callum and Ezran were both willing to, ultimately, in 2x07 after all) but it is a massive shift for Rayla in particular, and that feels purposeful.

We know, bare minimum, she was travelling entirely on her own for at least six months if not maybe a full year, since Stella is still a baby in an almost teething like stage of comfort, gnawing, and cuddles. Real life human babies start teething around 6-12 months, for example, and other animals even younger, so she’s on the early stage in Rayla’s life, absolutely

So I have one to like, five factors I think could have heavily played a part

The initial isolation of 6+ months and being on her own heavily wore her down and was a new experience for her, since Rayla had never been that alone before, always travelling with her troupe and then the boys. I doubt her nightmares about Callum suddenly vanished when she did, lol, so that’s another layer too

Possibly a near death experience or drowning, whether accidentally or in an attempt of saving someone, would likely deeply rattle her given her history. This could be what inspired her to come home. Oneshot pending

There was someone Rayla could not successfully save, and they asked her for a TW mercy killing. She did it, meaning she knows Aaravos isn’t assessment of her isn’t entirely accurate even if it’s still true about Viren. This would mean she killed someone she 1) didn’t want to and 2) wasn’t even her target. Also oneshot pending

Rayla possibly ran into the Bloodmoon Huntress, a dangerous Moonshadow villain from her childhood named Kim’Dael, resulting in one of the two aforementioned options

The same way Rayla coming back to Katolis forces Callum to stop emotionally repressing everything he was feeling about her and thereby get back to being more genuinely and wholly himself (which is going to be very important considering possession is about being stripped of autonomy and identity in equal measure!!), I think Callum is going to help Rayla restore herself back to the heroic selfless figure she was, but in a healthier way than ever before. It won’t surprise me if Rayla doubles down in future seasons on a self-destructive route (possibly in S5 depending on how the coin plot goes) now that she’s tried to let go and failed, but she’s also lost some of what made her selflessness a good quality - and they’ve always been heavily tied to each other’s identity and having an ultimately positive, if sometimes painfully transformative, impact on each other

The Surprise (2015). Also available on Tubi. After inking their own death warrants, an eccentric millionaire and distraught woman fall in love and find voiding their contracts isn't an option. Romance! Dark humor! The k-drama truck of doom, except it's a Dutch movie! (Disclaimer: I do not recommend watching this film if one is suicidal)

From Prada to Nada (2011). A modern Mexican-American adaptation of Sense and Sensibility that surprisingly really works?? The title is woeful but the movie is pretty darn good.

The Lady Vanishes (2013). Iris Carr is traveling across Europe by train when she befriends Miss Froy, an elderly English woman. But when she wakes up from a few hours' sleep, Miss Froy has vanished. As fellow passengers claim the lady never existed, Iris fights to discover the fate of Miss Froy - and prove that she's not going mad.

Love and Friendship (2016). Adaptation of Jane Austen's Lady Susan, starring Kate Beckinsdale. The main character is the definition of gaslight gatekeep girlboss, and the supporting characters are all just. so funny.

To Tell The Truth (1961). If you just want something to distract you that doesn't take a lot of thinking, old game shows are ideal. In this one, a celebrity panel tries to guess which of three strangers is the person they claim to be.

Masterpiece/PBS Passport Shows.

All Creatures Great and Small (since 2020). Season 4 currently airing. A feel-good (but unafraid to get real and sad) show about the misadventures of a country vet practice in Yorkshire.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke (since 2020). Season 4 currently airing. In 1880s London, the daughter of a private investigator decides to take over his detective business after his untimely death. Mystery series that also has just about the BEST opening titles ever.

Forever Young (1992). The movie where I realized that Mel Gibson was cute, actually. In 1939, a heartbroken Army pilot volunteers for a cryogenics experiment and wakes up in 1992, where he gets a second shot at love.

The Space Between Us (2017). On his first visit to Earth, a man born and raised on Mars bonds with a street-smart young woman while unraveling the mysteries of how he came to be. To quote my mutual Chris: "wanna cry? 🥰"

The Dick Van Dyke Show (1960s). Some of the stuff hasn't aged well, but this is still one my top favorite old sitcoms. All the characters are so fun and endearing. You probably won't want to sift through all five seasons, so my top episode recommendations are "The Curious Thing About Women" (s1 e16), "The Two Faces of Rob" (s2 e2), "That's My Boy??" (s3 e1), "Big Max Calvada" (s3 e9), "October Eve" (s3 e28), "My Mother Can Beat Up My Father" (s4 e1), "4 1/2" (s4 e7), "The Impractical Joke" (s4 e16), and "Coast to Coast Big Mouth" (s5 e1).

The Adam Project (2022). You've probably seen it, but I will mention it anyway! Time travel. Annoying and precocious 12-year-old child. Ryan Reynolds and Zoe Saldaña. Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo! FIVE STARS.

Trevor Noah: I Wish You Would (2022). The best Trevor Noah special, in my opinion. The curry story??? Iconic forever and ever.

The Full-Time Wife Escapist (2018). A woman takes a job as a housekeeper, but in order to stay in it, she and her boss agree to a contract marriage. If you've ever seen the k-drama Because This Is My First Life... This is the better version of that show, imo. The ML is suchhh a sweetheart.

Indian Matchmaking (since 2020). I never watch reality TV, so I don't know how I started seeing this show, but it's SO good and super bingeable.

Omg the Jurassic Park movies are on Netflix right now

Wild Mountain Thyme (2020). It's a love story, and it's so silly and enjoyable. The resolution is just shdhfhshshsg

The Giver (2014). Jonas learns the secrets of the past, and the utopia he's grown up in begins to look more and more dystopian. Also, Taylor Swift is there for some reason.

Flamin' Hot (2023). It wasn't until I watched this that I realized how much I need movies about Mexican success stories in my life. File this under ✨inspirational✨

If you haven't yet watched The Artful Dodger (2023), you absolutely should. Come for the romance, stay for the absolutely bonkers, insane hijinks.

I barely started watching Timeless (2016), but it looks really fun and good. It's about time travel, unsurprisingly for me 🤭

Baby's Day Out (1994). A childhood CLASSIC of mine. The cuteness is just. so much. The humor is standard slapstick, but really fun, and the mom has some of the most gorgeous 90s outfits omggg

Hidden Figures (2016). I love this movie endlesslyyy. Awesome intelligent Black women overcoming the odds, space race setting, and even a side of cute romance.

The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019). Dare I say, best dog movie I've seen?

The Call of the Wild (2020). Another dog movie, with Harrison Ford. I don't remember much of it but I remember really enjoying it.

Milo Murphy's Law (2017–2018). Have you seen this follow-up to Phineas and Ferb? If you haven't, you need to. The comedy is so gold tier and the music slaps.

Delicacies Destiny (2022). I kind of stopped watching this c-drama about 1/3 of the way through, but I totally should pick it up again, and it's worth watching even if just for all the gorgeous food scenes.

And of course, anything from my top ten k-dramas that you haven't seen yet is an automatic recommendation 😌

The more I use him the more favorable if an opinion I have of Vigil. Like yeah he’s still not great and he’s probably gonna vanish from my squads as soon as Muelsyse drops but he still handles lanes decently well with his s2. He can chew up enough trash mobs to actually get a decent bit of DP and since my alt account’s priciest unit is fucken weedy I don’t need flagpipe-tier generators up. I still don’t really see much use in s3 though, maybe the mastery gains are good enough to help it out but it pretty much always feels super underwhelming compared to pretty much anything else I have access too. His dog still gets mulched the second anything stronger than a normal soldier stacks up on it but if I wanted survivability in my tactician I’d be using blacknight or beanstalk

That being said I still mostly use blacknight and beanstalk lmao

Other problem I have is he’s fucken pricy, 14 dp is kinda embarrassing when laneholder extraordinaire Gladiia is only 13. If I need a blocker quick he’s just not gonna cut it when I can just slot in cantabile for half the cost.

All in all he’s like fine and I’m gonna m6 him on principle but I’m not scrambling for it. There’s worse units on this account, he’s at least not down there with snowsant and earthspirit

The fem vox is the title I gave one of my drawning after saving it for the first time at 1am, after 2h of work haha. It is a fanart of @/blackblood-tonic's desighn. I just saw it and could not resist trying to draw it with my own little take on it (Of course I asked for permission first!). I am planning on posting it by the end of the week ^^

Hunters' train of thoughts was abrubtly interruped by random witch turning corner just as he was about to do the same resulting in two people getting scattered on the floor. He slowly opened eyes, holding his forehead before noticing random pot with some kind of flower inside falling from the air right at his face.

He could tell by louder and louder voices that all the advantage he had gained from his fast moving and knowing the city like the back of his hand just faded as the thunder of teenage feet neared the position he was sitting in right now.

jay analysis time. fuck you

best take i've seen on wildbrain era jay is that he woobified himself and i think there's a rlly good case to be made for that tbh

like first of all we know he's an attention whore. this has been a thing since day one. he already has a history of adapting himself to be more like what he thinks others want from him

we first see this most clearly in s1 with his affection for nya; he puts on a front and tries to play the cool guy, even at the detriment to his health (i.e getting turned into a snake) and he only unlocks his true potential when nya accepts him for who he is after he drops the act

and then we have his response to zane's death in s3 being to start a tv career, where he's. obviously putting on a show to get people's attention it's kind of what you do at that job.

notably jay is also. self conscious of this trait? how he will forbid anyone from talking abt his tv career ever

he doesnt just want attention he's additionally vry afraid of disappointing people and s12 confirms he like. developed abandonment issues after s6.

like in s12 what allows him to reach out to unagami is bonding over how he was abandoned, too, and a solid (checks watch) six seasons after skybound we know being abandoned still rattles him (never change, ninjago) he's vry vry afraid of it happening again and being alone

as a result he appears vry afraid to upset others and be isolated which we see in several ways.

for upsetting others i'd point to his s13 interactions with the munce queen. like, her affection makes him obviously uncomfortable, yet he's not directly saying anything against it, bcuz he sees no way to turn her down without upsetting her. he only puts up minimum effort to defend nya who is, ykno, his fiancee. in the end, nya defeating the munce queen in a duel redirects the munce queen's ire at nya and preserves her good opinion of jay.

for being afraid of being alone i'd actually point at the league of jay in s12. once jay is isolated from his friends, he not only immediatly befriends scott, but also gains a large following. superstar rockin jay is a front similar to his tv show host days (when he was similarly isolated from his friends, albeit for different reasons). it's a lot of superficial attention that keeps him from feeling bad, and seeking that out was one of the first things he did in the game.

notably, the league of jay practically vanishes after jay reunites with the ninja, cuz he doesnt need them anymore now that his friends are back. he was using them as a replacement until they went and got him. kinda reminds me of the replacement ninja in s6. he didnt believe he could go against the sky pirates alone (fair tbh) so he gathered literal replacements for his friends. love how he knows echo zane exists but doesnt try to get him cuz jay doesnt need echo zane outside the replacement ninjas. fucker.

in s12 we also see him try to show off a lot, which happens in previous seasons too (looking at his attempts to woo nya by twisting himself again, in both s1 and s6), so here we see him try for adoration again.

all around jay is a social chameleon, and always has been. he constantly puts on various fronts for various people, be it for crowds or just his friends.

(both jay n nya lack a lot of emotional honesty which makes for fun disaster tbh. like either both of them r putting on acts and they both hate the other for it or it's oh my god the people putting on fronts are showing their true faces around each other like that brief bit of skybound in the lighthouse where they geniuenly reconcile and open up before [redacted] happens and i want to chew glass)

generally i think it's interesting how he's the brand of comedic relief perfectly aware that they're the comedic relief.

pre-s6 he's already self-conscious of his upbringing what with being poor n all (interalized classism mayhaps) and after s6 he's additionally self-conscious abt being abandoned cuz it feeds the thought that he can just not be good enough and that people can and have left him for it. again pointing at s12 finale how it eats jay up that he's never gonna know why he was abandoned and vry much doesn't want unagami to end up the same way

the whole you're adopted reveal brings what i think his greatest fear from the abstract to the real. he was already afraid of being left behind, and now he knows he already has been, so what's stopping it from happening again? ergo, do whatever you can to stay in everyone's good graces.

in short i do think it's a possible watsonian explanation for wildbrain era jay that he intentionally woobifies himself out of fear his friends will grow tired of him and ditch him. yeah.

jay's such a selfish character. i love this bastard.

you're fine, anon!! um, for the bonus question i will admit i have not actually watched any of this season. i have only consumed gifs/tweets/learned what's happened via friends who are still watching. i only heard bad things about the show, so for my own sanity i didn't watch any of it. LOL. i truly believe that people should hit da bricks if it's annoying them!! nothing of value is lost!!

that being said, I liked that Bo-Katan and the Armourer are girlfriends now??

ANYWAY. This is a layered question because I'm not sure if you prefer I answer "how would you logically make s3 for a general audience (no gay kissing in sw)" vs "what would your fanfic of s3 be (ample gay kissing)" because those answers are very different for reasons even aside from the obvious (gay kissing). I am a huge advocate for Din becoming king since, disregarding common jokes, I think it's perfect for his character and his journey.

Ummm Worlds Apart is already my 'Din slowly accepts becoming king' exploration. I'd probably write it a little differently now, since some stuff was going on at that point and I lost passion for it along the way. I was kinda forcing myself to finish it but it's still decent I think. This was written before the BOBF episodes, though, so I guess with those developments, uhhh... Anyway, super briefly since I don't let Mando take up much space in my brain since I'm kinda disillusioned:

I'd probably do a longer/deeper exploration of Din going to the mines and getting redeemed, and keep Grogu and Din apart long enough for that to have sincere emotional weight! Obviously this isn't a realistic wish since CGI Luke is not viable for main plot, but Luke existing and then vanishing from the plot is just bizarre, so.

So, Grogu is missing his father and it affects his training. You get a great parallel from prequels when Anakin gets told how his mind is thinking so often of his mother and it's not a good thing (I am not going deeper into this or someone will jump down my throat about Jedi stuff but you get the implication). Luke picks a different tactic than the previous generation and realizes Grogu needs to go back to his dad. As this happens, Din is grateful obviously but also explains his journey/task to redeem himself. Obviously, Luke helps Din navigate Mandalore/the Mines since he feels responsible for putting Din in that position unknowingly. On this journey they get to talk about resurrecting old cultures, feeling lost in revelations about their people, and starting new paths.

Luke being in the plot in real life can't work because we can't CGI budget it, but they really made him feel like a piece of glue connecting it. He makes the Gideon force-clone business make more sense. Together, Din and Luke fight 1) Gideon's awful conquest of Mandlore and 2) figure out the clone conspiracy/learn lost Jedi information. Luke is constantly dealing with clone shit in legends. It makes sense and the unifying mando/jedi themes are romantic, complementary and we get to see both Luke and Din rise into positions of leadership/honour in regards to their chosen cultures in unison! They're mirrors they're foils they're soulmates.

I wanted to see Din become king so bad and Gideon deserved to die by having his head cut off with the heirloom of the people whose planet and culture he tried to extinguish!!! gideon was fucked up for using the darksaber against the mandalorians and it should've thematically come back to get him!! din deserved to rule as a just, earnest king who proved mandalore was not what everyone believed it to be!! literally hero's journey 101 and they couldn't follow the clear path they laid out for themselves!!

but what do i know i just like to think about the guys kissing and stuff

kai is the son of ray, leader of the anacondrai cult and arguably not the best parent. kai was raised sort of as a soldier for the cult, esp with his mother's amber element being passed onto him. nya's still here, just... don't worry about her for now. s4 starts with kai flirting with skylor (as he tends to do) and them getting to know each other before kai reveals he's the mole and ray's his dad. he and skylor have the normal s4 moment of "hey you're in a cult do you wanna break out of the cult" "sure" and they do, but kai has the staff for a little bit and its a bit fucky. after s4 ends, skylor sends kai to her dad so he can do something with his life now that he's out of the cult, and one thing leads to another and chen adopts him :)

jay is an ai created by ed and edna many years ago, designed to help out with all sorts of stuff. but he gets stuck in prime empire and becomes a sort of superstar there, a well-known celebrity that has eyes everywhere. essentially, if you also get stuck in prime empire (libber), you're being watched by a very maliciously playful ai with nowhere to go. he's still just as dangerous as canon unagami though, and his goal of escaping prime empire by sucking people in is the same. he's just a struggling child trying to find his way back to his parents :( which he does in the end so its ok

cole was garmadon's first child. garm never shied away from telling morro about him, but he does so very sadly. cole ran away from home because of canon reasons (mom died, dad was being not great about it, the usual) and was taken in by garm. he was promised the green ninja title but didn't manage to get it, which left him a brooding mess. since cole isn't really an angry person, his frustration was very subtle, and garm didn't know he was struggling with that that hard until he ran away. garmadon still waits for his son to come home, even if cole died on his search for answers.

zane was a sentry built during s3 to mimic cryptor's structure perfectly. he's a cold and cruel general that doesn't care for his army as people (since they're also nindroids. so). he ends up surviving the mass purge at the end of s3 just because i have so many thoughts about him and pixal being a power couple in s8 and being Terrifying to the ninja. other than that he's just kinda there lol

lloyd is the quiet one :D his backstory is the same as harumi's in canon, his parents died to the great devourer, he gets adopted by the royal family, and he plans vengeance on the ninja, specifically harumi, because they failed to protect his parents when wu saved the world. he worships wu to the point of bringing him back, as per usual, and is very silky smooth with his persuasion of harumi. kid's terrifying. he also loves snakes. a lot. not the serpentine specifically, but he has a Lot of snake imagery.

and nya ... i admit i don't have much for, other than she's in kalmaar's place. i know that she and maya vanished one day, leaving kai and ray alone on the island, searching for the storm and wave amulets to summon wojira so she can claim her rightful place as scourge of the land. maybe they found a way to h2o just add water themselves into becoming merlopians to infiltrate and rule, so the amulets were easier to grasp. nya's a girlboss though <3 kills someone (unsure yet if she kills her mom or trimaar, her backstory is still a wip)

I think the endgame of ST is that, Will should'n've ever left Mike's basement. That's a safe haven, that is why it is so important that they mention there's where they wanna stay. I'm just throwing ideas here, but i think Mike's basement is more important than his room... yet, at the beginning of s4, he is reading Eleven's letter in his room. Not in his safe place? Why is that? It's because the basement is Byler territory. Sure, El lived in the basement in s1, but she was there to help find Will. Another thing that comes to mind is the fact that Will's room in Lenora is kind of a basement but they are attacked there. Mike's basement is the safe place for Byler. With this i'd like to mention i tried to check whether there is a closet in Mike's basement.. i don't have a big enough screen, but if someone knows about this... because it there isn't any ... that would be huge.

Your ideas are GREAT, anon!!! <3 Mike's basement as a safe haven (that's the place where he took Will after his episode on Halloween and said they'll go crazy together) and Byler territory (the whole basement is covered in Will's art), I totally agree!

In s1 when Mike's already making plans for El to live with his family he first suggests her living in the basement, but then changes his mind:

"I was thinking, once all this is over and Will's back and you're not a secret anymore, my parents can get you an actual bed for the basement. Or you can take my room if you want, since I'm down there all the time anyways. My point is, they'll take care of you. They'll be like your new parents, and Nancy, she'll be like your new sister."

Another interesting fact I've already written about is that Mike is reading El's letter in front of the open closet where he made her hide in s1, while she was wearing the clothes he wore the night Will vanished. we even can notice a red vest inside Mike's closet in s4 that reminded me of the vest Will was wearing in s1. I think it should symbolise Mike being in the closet that night. Mike asked for more time so they could finish the campaign that took him to plan 2 weeks. Will wanted to finish it too. He didn't want to go.

We know that DnD represents their relationships. Mike needed more time to realise his feelings.

Will rolled a 7. What if it meant to symbolise he already realised his romantic feelings towards Mike and confessed. 7 looks like a capital L turned upside-down and let's remember that lowercase l is used in the song "The First I love You" played during El's/Steve's love confession to Mike/Robin -> Mike was standing in front of Will's open closet, with his eyes open while El's kissing him (not even kissing her back)/Robin came out to Steve. In s4 Robin emphasized that she and Steve are platonic friends ("platonic with a capital P"). The next time Will rolled a 14 (7+7) and that was a win.

I don't know if there's a closet in Mike's room, but we have this scene in s3:

They could hear everything. And El already kinda dumped Mike's ass again through the letter ("From, El"). So, can the scene with Mike opening the door to his basement/his safe haven/Byler territory for Nancy & Jonathan mean he gonna come out to them in s5?

I know how many of byler shippers are annoyed that will's crush and basicaly every conversation he had with mike (where he was kinda lying because he was talking abt himself) made mike and el got back together. Look i get it im annoyed too. But its not bc i think that will having crush on mike is a bad scenario choise or the way they made him handle the situation is bad. No i think that wills character is one of the best of them all. S4 made me fall in love with him.

Steves crush on nancy is forced and unrealistic as well as nancys idk supposed feelings for him? Guys its the biggest bullshit ive ever seen. Nancys and johnatans fight is also very random created only to give some place for stancy. Im sorry but i didnt care much about jopper this season this ship was kinda cute in s1 and s2 (a little) but later on it was just jeah they'll end up together at some point and i dont care its ok. I also dislike hopper a bit - his anger outbrusts are too much for me despite his huge heart and stuff. Dustin and susie - i dont care. Dustin is amazing suzie is a boring character used only whan theyre having trouble. Max and lucas - they are nice s4 made me like max more and this scene in hounted house was awesome and cute. But they are lacking the tension bc we know somewhere in back of our heads that they'll end up together and drama is needed to build up both of their characters and it works (not like this s3 painfull drama to teach mike a lesson about beeing posesive - i didint learn much abt max and lucas then)

I think that finally will's character is treated seriously in s4. In s1 and s2 he was just in danger and everyone tried to save him. In s3 he had some place to be annoyed and sad but again all of his problems vanished as soon as they found out about mind flayer. In s4 noah shnapp is doing AMAZING job making will constantly on werge of crying (and it somehow isnt too much which dropped my mouth on the floor. Dont underestimate that! Usually characters that cry everytime theyre having a convo with anyone are annoying and you just wish they shut up but not will)

If we look at all those small details and clues the show kept giving us about wills sexuality (like people bulling him and laughing at him in s1 calling him homophobic slurs, him looking at mike before dancing with a girl on a snow ball in s2, mike saying is not his fault that will doesnt like girls in s3, that weird ass feet flirt? (gross) and wills presentation about alan truing in s4 for example) it gives us a good amount of reasons that it isnt just a part of his character like it was with robin in s3. The coming out scene wasnt like a confirmation of some obvious clues or shit. Her character wasnt about beeing gay it was about beeing a person and beeing gay. Which is huge difference. As a fan of casual representation i was very satified with steves and robins thread in s3 because i already loved them before the coming out scene (and its also a reason why im disapointed with it in s4 because they threw away the importance of their friendship and focused on romance instead which has been done wery poorly) But will also isnt just gay. He's a very confused child focusing on figuring out who he is. Its more like a heartstopper kind of storyline but he has no one to talk about it no one to support him like openly without just guessing what he is going throught. He doesnt have 'am i gay quiz' or any kind of people like him he can talk to. Instead he has a crush on an absolute asshole (I will get to that soon) and mindset of puting others before him. So it shouldnt be a surprise that he does everything he can to support and help mike. And look at him HE CRIES ALMOST EVERY TIME the emotions inside are taking him over. The problem isnt the plot isnt the crush isnt will's character its mike

What in the fucks sake happend to him over the seasons? In s1 and 2 i belived that he is nice he is caring that he is a heart of a group. He was a GOOD FRIEND. But now show has to desperately remind us about all this stuff because he himself isnt. Since s3 he is just revolving around el. All the time no place for anyone else there. Well maybe they are buliding up like a sudden realisation scene where mike will realise what this relationship was doing with him or something. But guess what HE WON'T why? BECAUSE HE IS UNABLE TO FIGURE OUT HIS FLAWS HIMSELF or read basic signals from his friends that he's hurting them. So maybe in s5 someone (probably Will) will have to put some sences into that oblivious mind of his (i hope will will be yellig) and honestly that is the only rational reason i can see for watering down his character this much (rational where its not just a poor writing) i hope it will happen i would enjoy it i would forgive using wills feelings for ending mikes and els fight. But if nothing like this happens mileven is doing perfectly 'fine' as always will is coming out but it has no impact on anything than im throwing that show away other threads arent enough to make me invest in it as much as this one is (im not saying that i need byler to come true what i need is a logical explanation on why mike is such an asshole and REAL character development this time) Every time show is fucusing on mikes flaws (its always just one flaw - like mike beeing possesive or not caring about will at all) other characters confront him making him realise what he was doing wrong he apologises and everything is fine again exept its not. Because he fixes this one single flaw they were taking about every other out there is left untouched. He doesnt grow as a person (one good thing about him - he doesnt make same mistake twice) actually hes beeing even a bigger asshole. So theres no surprise for me that all he takes from wills advices are ways to make up with el bc thats all he is focusing on. He doesnt look at bigger picture of situation - at wills emotions at ways his voice sounds like at reasons why he took that painting for that trip or why he painted him in that contects in the first place.

I dont know what elese to write to clarify my point (i hope its somehow understandable) I am a huge byler shipper but as i said it doesnt even have to be canon for me because if it was with mike left the way he is it could be even more painfull for will. What im really hoping for in s5 is explainging mikes horrible begaviour and fixing it for real this time (this scenario in case they made him this bad on pourpose) or fixing his character generaly (in case it was accidental) and a satisfing wills coming out scene. I cant specify exactly what im expecting but im counting it will be as good as robins

OMG people found me im so happy !!! accidental real life issues suddenly sprung but that does not stop the ninjago grind !!!

it was mostly my like uhh art that gained notes idk what notes are (r they like,, likes ???) so maybe ill use my shaky hands to provide more in the future har har but for now i shall have to cope with my somewhat okay wiritng.

KAI will probably be sucked out of the first universe before he actually gets a chance to make a difference, he'd get into a few fights and participste in a missjon and then vanish off the side of the earth literally.

the second universe i had in mind kinda nakes sense but at the same time it really doesnt. its based off season 3 (?) where they go to the moon to stop the OVERLORD getting the golden metal. so in this universe he not only succeeds in obtaining the metal but also in trapping the ninja on the moon. wait i just remembered its not the moon its some random asteroid gosh,, its fine its an AU we'll say they went to the moon. so theyr on the moon right and the OVERLORD has taken over the world and he has drcided to actually station a base on the moon to trap prisoners or hold confidental information securely and KAI ends up teleporting right into the middle of the base where one he starts struggling for air but then gets saved by the enemy so they could put him in a jail cell. NYA this time replaces KAI in this au in becoming one of the green ninjas protectors because again he doesnt exist. also again in SONIC PRIME each universe character changes names whixh i am absolutely horrible at coming up with so im going to have to think of another theme to base this versions ninja of bc i think thats easiest. following the episode LLOYD is on earth not with the ninja who are in the au in moon jail but you can safely assume that he's working on some intricate mission with WU and GARMADON to fly to the moon and save them all. again its unclear to me how all this is going to play out but i just know that KAI is going to help them all escape, oh and this is probably where he discovers that NYA is indeed an elemental. NYA in this au is actually (hehe) the element of fire whatt !!! yeah and MAYA was never an elemental master, not anything that is important or would be explicitu mention in this universe i just thought id mention it bc the plot would kinda stay the same point it was till s3 if it was like that and also itd make KAI stand out more as an anomaly bc theres no such thing as two fire masters yk
