Deep Dive on Mike and his Gay Feelings

So a lot of people speculate when exactly Mike realizes he has romantic feelings for Will, and I’m jumping onto the snowball train. Lemme explain:

For the show’s pitch on the characters, Mike was insecure ab not having a girlfriend. From the start, the duffers wanted his character to struggle with not being heteronormative. All of the characters are type casted as being different in their own ways. But this let’s us know that Mike thinks having a gf is what’s going to make him normal. Lucas and Dustin didn’t have anything ab girlfriends in their description, so why Mike? Well, it implies that the duffers have always had the intentions of making him queer (ima gay mike truther personally), but I don’t think this means since s1 he knows he likes Will.

Season 1 shows us Mike and Will have a deeper connection compared to the rest of the party. Mike keeps a binder of his drawings, puts himself and the rest of the party in danger in order to find Will, trusts El solely because she says she can help find him, and was going to kill himself at the quarry because he had lost all hope in finding Will. I don’t think Mike starts developing romantic feelings for him in this season because tbf he’s 12 and it is really traumatic to have your bff of 5 year’s old disappear. But I will say that this behavior does show just how deeply he cares for Will and that his feelings definitely have some romantic undertones (again gonna mention the binder of Will’s pictures and drawings all over basement).

His relationship with El s1 also highlights how mike is queer. El is the only girl he’s ever became friends with that understands what it’s like to be an outsider. He’s in the mindset of normal=girlfriend, and since El is the only girl in his life he thinks they’re supposed to date. Even tho they are depicted as a blossoming romance, both Mike and El’s behavior isn’t romantic in the slightest. It more so reads as mike thinking him and El need to date because he’s a boy and she’s a girl, and El just going along with it because she doesn’t know better. The clearest piece of evidence that mike doesn’t have romantic feelings towards El is when discussing El living in the Wheeler house in 1x8. Mike says El would be like Nancy’s sister, but wouldn’t be Mike’s. This means that his feelings for her are platonic because he views Nancy and El as a sibling dynamic, but thinks the next step in their relationship is dating because of heteronormativity. If he didn’t view her platonically, he would’ve said El could become friends with Nancy or wouldn’t have mentioned Nancy at all.

Season 2 pre-snowball is when things pick up a bit more with byler because now we actually see how Mike and Will interact with each other. Will said Mike was the only one treating him the same. So before the ud, Mike was super affectionate and protective and was basically acting like a boyfriend? Cool, good to know. 2x2 specifically gives us the most insight into how they’re dynamic works. The whole Halloween episode let’s us know Mike thinks of Will and their friendship differently than the rest of the party’s. Him getting pissy with only Will for not talking to him ab max joining (even tho lucas or Dustin didn’t either), him immediately searching for Will after he’d left Will’s side for not even 3 minutes and then dragging Will back to his place to be alone, and, finally, the crazy together scene. Again, I don’t think the crazy together scene is when Mike realizes he has feelings for Will. This is when WE, the viewers, know Mike has feelings for him. That scene was the nail in the coffin in confirming these two clearly have romantic feelings. But for Mike, it was a turning point in their relationship. It confirms that they are their own individual team separate from the party. This scene probably had mike feeling all kinds of butterflies and just didn’t know why they were happening…yet 😏

His relationship with El s2, again, shows us that his feelings for her are platonic and also not has strong compared to Will’s. He doesn’t believe El is dead…but he also doesn’t search after her once, doesn’t bring up how he saw her out his window to the party (only to Will might I add), and, besides calling her everyday, Mike basically acts like she doesn’t exist. This is a complete contrast with Will’s disappearance!! This is the girl Mike supposedly has a crush on, the only girl he’s ever had a deep connection with—this behavior doesn’t add up with his character…unless he doesn’t feel as strongly towards El as he does Will. And the way Mike behaves versus how El behaves in their reunion is telling ab how they see each other too. It’s obvious that El feels romantically towards him now (she’s looking at him with heart eyes and is a little breathless), but he reads as platonic. Like if it had been Dustin or Lucas, he would’ve said and reacted the exact same way. He didn’t overreact (in my books at least) when finding out hop was hiding her either. Just really platonic and would’ve also started punching and screaming at hopper if it was anyone in that room.

THE SNOW BALL *duh duh DUHHHH*

I need to preface this beforehand: Mike didn’t think El was going to show up!! His reactions and responses of what’s to come are without El in mind.

Ok back to Mike realizing he like likes Will

When Dustin arrives late to the dance we see Lucas and Max together (presumably as dates) and Mike and Will…so he thought during the whole dance it was just going to be him, Will, and Dustin together once lumax started doing their own thing.

But then this random girl comes up and asked Will if he wants to dance and Mike pushes Will to say yes. Just noticed only Mike and Will turn to her when she comes up, Dustin doesn’t. this happens for two reasons 1) Dustin is heartbroken ab lumax so ofc he isn’t watching this happen 2) Mike isn’t heartbroken by lumax, and is also thinking “why tf is this girl coming up to Will?”. So when this random ass girl asks Will for a dance and Will looks at him for an answer, the only thing he thinks is to say yes because that’s what a good NORMAL friend would do.

Yet, even though he’s the one that told Will to say yes, he automatically starts sulking. He looks just like Dustin: heartbroken from jealousy.

but this is his face when he realizes what his jealousy is from:

YEAH THIS IS THE MOMENT HE REALIZES HE LIKES WILL

Sitting there, just processing his feelings, Mike realizes that his jealous insecurity of someday being replaced by Will’s future girlfriend is because Mike doesn’t want him have one and, instead, wants Will to be with him.

His face gives it all away!! He looks in shock. Eyes wide, mouth opened, and staring at nothing because he’s so deep in thought. He looks completely dumbfounded, like “I like like Will holy shit” is on repeat while he thinks about every interaction they’ve ever had. And this shocked face was intentional!! They stay on him with this face for almost 10 seconds before El walks in. This wasn’t just a quick cut to him looking bored (which is what it looks like if your just casually watching). They wouldn’t have stayed on him for so long if we weren’t supposed to notice his facial expression!

You might be thinking, why now? How does this girl coming up to Will and making Mike jealous get him to this realization? After all, he was super jealous when he thought Will liked Max, so why not back at the crazy together scene?

Heres the difference between him getting jealous over Max and Will versus the rando and Will: he saw unrequited feelings between Will and Max (she didn’t like him back), but not with Will and the rando (he says yes). Plus the crazy together scene leads Mike to believe their bond is stronger than anything else, but Will leaving him for a girl makes him realize it isn’t.

And this realization doesn’t help him mentally— it just feeds into his “I’m not normal” insecurity. Not to mention he thinks Will doesn’t love him back or even could. So guess who walks in and is able to save him from his gay crisis…

YUPPPP THE ONE AND ONLY EL

Even the mileven kiss proves mike knows he likes Will. Mike wasn’t originally supposed to kiss her— he duffers didn’t even want it, Millie did. She literally asked for it because she thought that shippers would be pissed (she’s the shipper) if it didn’t happen. The duffers don’t give a fuck ab what shippers want! Never have! And even tho it was her begging for it, I don’t think they would allow a 13 year old to make major decisions like this without it working with their vision. However…it does. They realized the kiss actually strengthens Mike pushing away Will, so that’s why they lit the green light on that impromptu kiss. The kiss is just Mike belly flopping head first into his new (fake) personality.

Mike begins his “I don’t like like Will, I’m normal 😃” phase that continues through s3 and s4. Except that phase takes a turn after he realizes he’s in love with Will in the season 3 finale, but that’s for another byler essay.

Okay I’m thinking about Sirius coming out to Effie and Flea over Christmas break in like sixth or seventh year. He’s so so so anxious about it and he gets them alone when James is off doing things that James does. They’re in the loungeroom maybe and Sirius wont even look at them he’s so nervous he feels like he’s gonna be sick.

And then he says it. He just comes out and tells them he’s queer and that he hopes they don’t kick him out because he really can’t change who he is.

4 years of Druck s3 - week 7

Things of note in this episode:

1. This is probably my favourite episode and so this is likely to be lengthy!

2. I really love how this conversation with Hans differs from the og. In a lot of ways I prefer this one, unlike the one in episode 5. In this, first, Matteo says ‘if it makes you happy’ he’ll call him his guru and I love that change in the dynamic. Plus, I really do love that Hans is attuned enough to religion that he takes Matteo into church to have this conversation (and so Matteo’s mother does in a way see him in church that day). I think it’s very important that a lot of Matteo’s issues about all this stem from religion and so taking him into a place of religion to demystify it is so important. Also, Hans’s advice about David isn’t that he’s probably playing Matteo (as Eskild suggests to Isak), but that he’s probably not out and needs time and respect for that or to be left alone. It resonates in a different way, and the fact that this religious breakthrough happens at Easter is a really lovely touch. Plus we get the whole bit about Matteo’s mother, and he’s able to come to terms with her and her issues in a way that leaves him much calmer and more at peace. Compare the above picture to this one from the start of the episode:

This earlier Matteo was so sad and he was at seas and all confused. But at least he knew that going to Hans would help - and was able to do it even when Hans had been so upset with him before. And kudos to Hans for seeing past all that and recognising that Matteo genuinely does need a gay guru and being that person for him. This conversation has done exactly what Matteo needed it to and he’s so much happier and more at ease both with the David thing and with his mother.

3. Speaking of religion, this whole bit with Amira is a) so lovely and b) so important. After their previous discussion, this has needed to be addressed and she does it in such a gracious way - which he returns. I do think that without the chat with Hans he may have been less keen to hear what Islam thinks about homosexuality but together these two conversations have really helped him unpack some of his prejudices about religion, and he is far more willing and able to open up to hi9s mother with the hope that she won’t reject him. I absolutely love that ‘for Easter’ Amira’s family has made some food to share, thus showing Matteo that religion can be open and accepting of other faiths, cultures and lifestyles. Amira doesn’t just tell him she and her religion accept him, she shows him and it’s very powerful. Even if her bringing outside food into a cafe worries me, since you’re absolutely not allowed to do it here.

4. I really love the colours in this episode - they’re so much warmer and more cheerful than the previous ones. Partly that’s because this was Easter and the colours work really well for that time of year. But also because Matteo is starting to warm up and open up into his new self. I am, once again, so impressed by the way light and colour is used in this show. It’s just soooo goooooood.

I also love how much Carlos has grown - Kiki has such strong views and she wants everyone to agree with them. In a lot of her life, people just don’t (I imagine Zoe must be such a stress for her, for example), but Carlos, who has been shown as a bit of a lad and quite ignorant and occasionally offensive, has taken it all on board and you can see it in the way he acts and the things he says now. He enjoys his new knowledge and certainly has a lot of sensitivity to people and their relationships. He’s the one who knew things were off with Matteo and Sara, and he’s the one who moves to listen actively to Matteo here and who says things he hopes are supportive and encouraging.

5. Sara. This poor kid. We see here the culmination of everything that’s been going wrong in her life and it must have been so hard seeing Matteo in the midst of all this. But I like to think that she feels lighter and happier after this is done. We do know what she reaches out to Leonie after Matteo suggests that talking to people helps. If we compare this picture of her to the way she was shown in s1 and even 2, she’s so diminished, shot from above and looks so weak and vulnerable. Even compared to the social media post she made wearing this exact outfit, she looks different. But it’s maybe like a wound being lanced - like Matteo she was trying to put up a facade, live a fake life in that earlier post. But now she’s able to be real and yeah that hurts but it’s better and they will both be able to move on and be happier more authentic people in the aftermath.

6. Speaking of hurting - Matteo makes so much great progress this episode and he’s able to become a happier and more settled person. But at the core is this boy who misses the boy he thought he was creating something nice with. He told Hans he ‘can’t believe’ that David doesn’t want him and I think that makes this even harder. The pictures and videos David sends are sending him mixed messages. On one hand, he’s keeping up the contact and trying to maintain something with Matteo - on the other, this stuff is all ‘it’s not you it’s me’ ‘in a different life we’d be in Detroit’ etc etc. There’s no hint that things can be ‘real’ between them in this life and so Matteo keeps having these small moments of sadness throughout the episode.

7. And so that’s why this whole part is tinged with a melancholy. Unlike in other versions, there’s no passion here, no ‘throwing caution to the wind’ or anything. Instead it’s so gentle and cautious, so fragile. There’s a sigh of relief that David is here, but neither of them is at ease. Of course, we start to understand David’s thing the next day. But even here it’s so clear why Matteo feels the way he does - everything since David told him he’s not into him has been such a rollercoaster that it’s not possible for him to throw caution to the wind. He’s felt so much sadness and heartbreak about David even this week that he can’t allow himself to fully dive into this moment. And of course we’re left with this shot of David’s face and we get to see that he’s not happy either. It’s a long long few hours til the next morning and David’s secret!

I loved the majority of the season, I had a great time, but G x B is the most overhyped, underdeveloped, passionless, chemistry-less, soulless ship I’ve ever seen. It was hard to get through 15 min with them, and I’m glad we didn’t actually have an episode specifically about them to develop them because it would have been unwatchable. Also ‘Gabriel redemption’ I see everywhere and I’m like??? WHERE. He didn’t redeem anything, he didn’t help Aziraphale and Crowley with their happy ending, he just fucked off the second he could. He’s boorish and selfish and he’s an asshole, and the fact they got to go off with no worry or (presumably) consequences pisses me the fuck off and doesn’t make sense with how C x A have danced around each other in FEAR for millennia. Unless you take it that Beelzebub being female has something to do with it. That they’re straight and therefore aren’t judged as harshly for being together by both sides even though it’s still being a traitor. I think b having they-them pronouns completely erases and hides this VERY VITAL difference.

When I rewatched the season, I actually fast-forwarded through the whole part with them. They don’t exist to me. I find it funny that people are complaining about how A/C is apparently “forced”…but don’t make the same comment about B/G who are the definition of a forced couple. Tbh most straight couples in media are, it’s just a simple “man and woman see each other, they fall in love” formula. It’s really frustrating that Ineffable Bureauhets is supposed to be some sort of model relationship for Ineffable Husbands…when IB is so out of the blue and nonsensical, and IH is built on 6000+ years of friendship and companionship.

I was hoping for a Gabriel redemption this season, because it sounded really interesting. I was expecting him to side with A/C after experiencing life as Jim, and then in season 3 they’d go into the war against Heaven/Hell and Humanity with the supreme Archangel on their side. It was very disappointing to see that the Jim arc really didn’t lead anywhere for Gabriel’s character development. He didn’t even thank Aziraphale and Crowley, didn’t apologise for anything…he just remained self-centred.

Because of that, it’s really annoying to see him and the equally selfish Beelzebub get the ending that Aziraphale and Crowley should get. Maybe that’s the point, I’m not sure. It would be really interesting if the point is to expand on the allegory of religious homophobia…with showing that a straight couple with not even a fraction of A/C’s history can go off together with no problem, while a gay couple is still struggling due to factors the straight couple never had to deal with (like internalised homophobia for example).

How they met :D

In med school, pre RA. Yuu struggled to contain any information so him and Yanov regularly got together to study, leading to very late night conversations about themselves. Even when Yuu decided to drop out they kept in contact, Yanov occasionally sneaking them in to watch his surgeries. They both eventually got bored of their respective lives and wanted to share it ( unfortunately ) as a trauma surgeon and nurse in a bare bones rebellion ( RA ).

Their roles in the RA :>

Yanov is a trauma surgeon, he’s usually on the field or dragged into doing some weird mechanical project Tord wants help with.

Yuu is a nurse but not? I don’t know what else to describe him as, but he’s on the field helping carry soldiers to safety, or at base doing patient care when Yanov needs some extra hands.

Headcannons :3

Yanov is selectively mute, communicating through sign language or very rarely gives a one or two word answer/order/etc. It’s rooted in anxiety and just not talking is better than saying something. Yuu usually helps with shouting orders or asking for things he needs, never to speak over him but to give him a voice.

When there’s zero work to do and no one’s dying they lay back and nap to old ( 60’s-80’s ) love songs

Yuu practically begs Yanov to connect the dots between their freckles because they think it’s a sweet little reminder of him, it’s usually on her hand or arm.

Yanov writes cheesy little poems in a notebook he carries around 24/7. Yuu takes a peek in it and reads it every chance he gets, literally giggles and kicks his feet. No, Yanov has no idea they read what he writes, but he couldn’t care less if he knew that’s what she was giddy over.

Yuu has no interest in doing surgeries, discovered very quickly he can and will need to walk away and puke. They’re perfectly fine just handing over tools or taking care of the patient after it’s over. Meanwhile Yanov is crazy over it ( Cristina Yang core ), he will gently bully another surgeon into giving him a cool surgery he wants.

They’re both a good bit older than the rest of the guys, closer to their 50’s by the time the RA is well established and settled (Pat/Paul/Tord are around mid 30’s). It’s a common joke between the guys to point it out, it’s not bothersome, and they sometimes play into it. ( Also the ages are just when I think of em’ in my favorite area of the story I got going ) ( Also old man yaoi </3 )

They got into their relationship the first month of being in the RA. The feelings were mutual years before this but Yanov thought he was too busy, he’s still overwhelmed with work, but he’ll squeeze in time to relax with Yuu. In their later years Yanov decided to train more surgeons so he could spend more days with Yuu.

Yuu is :3 and Yanov is ._.

Neither of them EVER expected that zombies would ever be an issue.

Patryck and Paul are considered close and good pals, and Tord is basically the scum of the earth.

Unintentional Love Story Ep 3 & 4

📢ATTENTION. THERE WAS A CAT (for like a two seconds but still) THAT WAS VERY SIMILAR TO MY CAT!📢

Unintentional Love Story is just so good. All my feelings go to TaeJoon, what an amazing, compelling man he is. I’m so charmed by him, I like everything about him. How vulnerable he is, how he was hurt once, and how he sees it likely to happen again, yet he can't help but take care of WonYoung. Like any, even the smallest show of kindness, gives him great joy. I also like what a good friend he is, his discreet sense of humor, cute boyishness, serious approach to his work and professionalism. My second favorite character is DongHee, the actor who plays him is awesome, he has amazing comedic talent. DonHee is also a great character, he's a good friend, a good employer, he's funny, sweet, also very chill and laid back. I like the relationship between TaeJoon and DonHee, two gay men who understand each other, don't have to pretend when they’re together and can talk freely and honestly with each other. 🌈

ULS is one of those shows where I like one of the pair better. Unfortunately, this is not, for example, Bed Friend, where both King and Uea are equally interesting to me and I like both of them the same. I admit that I don't vibe with WonYoung, maybe it's the actor's fault, maybe the character is just too clichéd, maybe he's too much of a boy-version of "awkward girl from romantic dramas". I don't know. Although TaeJoon is also a cliché character, that could be found in numerous dramas, I don't mind him at all. So maybe it's the actor after all. Who is fine, but.. yeah, just fine..🤷‍♀️ In HoTae’s case, there's just so little of him in the show that I barely notice him - although his crush and shared history with DonHee has a lot of potential.

I wonder if TaeJoon is fully aware of the reason for WonYoung's presence in his life. He definitely is, to some point, but it's interesting to see if it has the full picture. It would be great if he knew all the time. The series goes in two very predictable directions: discovering WonYoung's bad intentions after he already falls in love and refuses to continue his "mission" and the ensuing fight, also a separation seen in the trailer. I honestly hate both tropes so much and I hope that the series will do them in some creative way. For example, that TaeJoon knows everything, or at least guesses and WonYoung leaves before the he’s discovered.

Anyway, smitten TaeJoon is 10/10 💯💯💯

What else to write about: - cat - wet, glistening Koreans - old buildings - comfortable and inviting beds - TaeJoon making more and more space in his life for WonYoung - the bond between TaeJoon and DonHee - music - h..how did WonYoung plan to give the medicine to TaeJoon? 👀

Will Asian series ever learn to translate what is written as well??? 😑

Clover Rants Miraculously: Twice is a pattern... (Put under Readmore for spoilers)

I feel like the thing that bothers me about the whole “Lila and Kagami become friends so the former can turn the latter against Marinette because evil” isn’t that it isn’t a good storyline (Honestly, I’m kind of super interested in seeing what sort of dynamic they might develop through their new “friendship”) - it’s that they’ve done this with Lila like, two times already with “Chameleon” and “Ladybug”. I wanna see some new schemes from her - Where’s “Lila befriends Kagami to get an in with the rich people Illuminati/have a backup in case Gabemoth screws her over.”, or “Lila befriends Kagami because she thinks she’s friends with Ladybug and wants to learn her weaknesses” or “Lila befriends Kagami because she learns she was Adrien’s ex and wants to use her to get info on him so she can better mess with the Adrienette relationship/steal him from Marinette/get closer to him.” or even “Lila pretends to befriend Kagami because evil but then starts seeing they actually have a lot of similarities/share interests and accidentally becomes gay real friends with her”? (or maybe even “Kagami knows Lila’s trying to trick/use her to hurt Marinette and is pretending to go along with it so she can use her back because she knows she has a connection to Monarch/Hawkmoth and then also accidentally becomes gay real friends with her over unexpected similarities”)

I also, like a lot of people, feel like it’s...kind of a huge step back for Kagami’s character after all she’s been through in series and the development of her friendship with Marinette - especially when you consider how her whole breakdown in “Perfection” was related to her fearing she isn’t considered a good friend to her. Plus Kagami is established as someone who values truth (to the point she broke up with Adrien specifically because he wouldn’t be honest with her). Honestly, after what happened when she became Ryukomuri, she should have ended her friendship with Lila right then and there and would not have given her the second chance she did in “Protection” (Though considering her response to her in “Emotion”, she’s at least putting some distance in). Purposely putting the two together just so Kagami can get tricked/strung along by someone trying to take advantage of her (again) frankly seems just sort of...meanspirited to her whole character.

There’s also the whole thing about how she’s apparently now in love with Adrien again and is then going to be paired with his identical twin cousin yeah no problems there. I mean, similar to the Lila-friendship thing, I am sort of interested in seeing where they go with rekindling Adrigami (even onesidedly) - but it is kind of annoying that instead of either simply creating a new love rival (which frankly I can’t really recommend when the cast is already kind of bloated as is) or making use of the ones they still have like Chloe (Unless the crush ends after he ends their friendship - actually wait, is she still supposed to be in love with him after “Derrision”?), the show instead opted to shove Kagami back into her intro-phase role because apparently we simply can’t have her just move on from her old relationship and continue her friendship with Marinette, especially since Adrienette’s already canon anyway now that they’re dating - nah, let’s just make her a love rival again so she can act as a potential future Adrienette obstacle to give some semblance of romantic conflict. It’s like the writers ran out of idea of what to do with Kagami outside the Lila-friend plot, so they’re brought back the season 3 crush in the hopes of padding things out. And yeah, I know sometimes people fall back in love with old partners and feelings can’t be helped, but the fact that they did this so the story could (once again) have Kagami go full yandere and attack a girl over her possessiveness of Adrien, seems to be setting up some kind of pattern (or precedent) that I’m not really liking...

My Thoughts on Episode 3 of the Wedding Plan (esp the fourth part of the ep)

J’Im is absolutely right about letting your head make the right choices when your heart is compromised. And I love how she tells Nuea that he shouldn’t have to be a third wheel in someone else’s relationship. This girl is a genius. Plus, it was really nice to see a supportive boss, since I feel like the only ones I’ve seen are toxic (that editor in Lovely Writer, ahem). J’Im is literally a girlboss. I respect the hell out of her.

Yiwa and Marine!!!! I was so overjoyed that we got to see so much of their relationship. Honestly, it was way more screen time than I ever expected for them, since we got so little in the trailer. The way Yiwa stood up for Marine and told her team off for dissing her was so satisfying. They have so much chemistry together, which makes them even more fun to watch. Especially how Yiwa and Marine were flirting with each other at the cafe XD (How did Nuea not conclude that they were together? I mean, I know his gaydar was going off, but he decided to ignore the rampant gay flirting, I guess?)

The reveal we all wanted (because Nuea deserves to know the truth)! Unfortunately it’s not really a reveal, and it wasn’t even revealed by Sailom, but by Nuea, who guesses at the truth and hits the nail on the head. I really need to give Nuea more credit. He’s pretty perceptive (more perceptive than I would expect a bl main lead to be). Plus, I bet he’s seen at least a couple lavender weddings in his time as a wedding planner. Unfortunately, Sailom decided to lie and risked his future relationship with Nuea in the process. I know why he decided to lie and I empathize with him, but I’m still a little annoyed.

And now, my thoughts on the last quarter of ep 3:

Rain and Payu’s proposal scene was everything LITA fans could’ve hoped for. Though I only made it through the first couple eps of LITA, that proposal scene made me sniffle. Something about seeing queer couples happy really tugs at my heartstrings. Their kiss was a pretty good example of queer joy and openness. Their friends/family were clapping and supporting them in the background, which only heightened the joy of the scene to me. The behind the scenes crew clearly chose this location for its light and airy setting, symbolizing and accentuating Rain and Payu’s happiness and love.

Nuea actually helped Payu plan the proposal, so while the proposal is happening, he stands watching (WATCHING! OFF TO THE SIDE!) in a corner with Sailom and they hold hands. After that scene is over and everyone leaves for home, we get a shot of Sailom and Nuea kissing in the car. The place is almost completely dark. In contrast to Rain and Payu’s proposal scene (which happens in a place so drenched in light that it’s almost a pure white), they’re kissing each other at night in a parking garage with no one around to witness their feelings for each other. Also in contrast to Rain and Payu’s scene, their kiss is bittersweet. Sailom even says that it isn’t a good idea for him to be doing this right before he leans in. The only light source is the automatic light that turns on when you turn off the car, symbolizing how their relationship is hidden, not public and celebrated like Rain and Payu’s. When Sailom and Nuea kiss, it’s soft and sweet and secret.

Earlier in the episode, we meet Sailom’s mom, right after we are told that Sailom and Yiwa have been in a fake relationship for 13 years. I wonder how much they fear being outed, to willingly hide these parts of themselves. When we met Sailom’s mom, she seemed perfectly nice, if a little pushy and nosy about his marriage. But Sailom seems exhausted by this short encounter with her (probs because he has to pretend so much around her) and it makes me wonder how common these interactions are. We’re told that Yiwa and Sailom are already disappointing their moms a little by keeping the wedding “small”, so it doesn’t seem surprising that Sailom’s mom is a little concerned by their marriage. Plus, in the trailer, we’re told that Sailom is only getting married because his mom wanted him to. Why are Sailom and Yiwa keeping their sexualities such a secret? Is it because of the familial pressure to get married in a heteronormative wedding with all the trappings? Or is it something else? Why does Sailom fear her finding out he’s gay? Or does she already suspect something (she mentioned his frequent “nighttime escapades, but those could very well just be him working until late)?

We know that Sailom is very honest about his feelings with Nuea, and Yiwa seems to be in a happy committed relationship with Marine. (GO LESBIANS!) So why do Sailom and Yiwa feel like getting married is the only way? And I can’t imagine that Marine would be very happy becoming Yiwa’s mistress for the rest of their lives. How long do Sailom and Yiwa feel they can keep this lie going for? It doesn’t seem like Nuea and Marine would be willing to go along with it for too long. As J’Im says, you shouldn’t have to be a third wheel in someone else’s relationship, no matter how fake it is. I look forward to seeing Sailom and Yiwa’s character arcs. (THOUGH I REALLY WANT TO KNOCK LOM AROUND A LIL, so if Nuea slaps him, Lom has it coming : ) (WHY IS THIS BOY SO MANIPULATIVE JEEZ)

I have not watched any space battles in the past like 2 days but I will continue it tomorrow and I hope my billion asks of nonsense went through, esp the one about Anakin being space fantasy Jesus?? I only have 4 left. I also wanted to ask what I should watch after the movies, since Obi the show is happening rn I wanna watch that to know what’s going on but idk if I’ll be confused. However today I did go to a pride bowling thing to meet and talk to other trans people and while I didn’t do that, I did talk to some older lesbians who were really nice and I SAW other trans people and esp older gay and trans people which is. the clone wars (animated show): okay so i have to say. watching the clone wars early on is actually HUGELY important because a lot of characters who are introduced in it are brought into other shows like the mandalorian and the book of boba fett and stuff, and if you haven’t watched it it’s a little confusing cause you’re like. well who tf are you??? when in clone wars they had a nineteen episode arc introducing them and stuff. that being said it is a lot to watch (seven seasons, lots of episodes…). but it’s seriously so good!!! like you get to see the individual things that led to anakins fall, ahsoka who is one of the best characters ever made, lots of obi wan angst, commander cody and captain rex and all the other clones who are just so wonderful and loveable, and just some really good stories. if you wanted you could also just start with some of the more important arcs (clone wars is set up in two to four episode arcs that act as sort of chapters in the larger book of the show if that makes sense) which i could give you a separate guide to lmao. but yeah tldr i recommend watching clone wars early on so that the star wars universe gets pulled together a little more.

star wars rebels (animated show): i can not emphasize my love for rebels more. in my honest opinion it is one of the best piecss of star wars media out there, and it is CRIMINALLY underrated. like yeah okay the animation style is a little weird but. the characters and their relationships more than make up for it. it’s about found family. it’s about love and compassion and hope. it’s about kanan and hera being the most loveable couple in the entire galaxy. it’s about zeb and ezra and sabine being siblings. it’s about rebellion and standing up for your home and learning to help others even when no one has helped you. just. it’s so good. i could go on for days. four seasons, twenty ish episodes in each, eleven out of ten stars from me.

rogue one: the best star wars movie ever made. i haven’t watched it in a long time but. good lord. it broke my heart in two and also patched it back together and kissed my forehead. i need to rewatch it desperately. you could really watch this at any point, you just need the context of the original trilogy.

the mandalorian: MY BELOVED. this is the show that really pulled me all the way into star wars a while back, because it’s just SO. GOOD. like din and grogu are everything and the story telling is so good and each episode just has such life to it and it’s just. it’s incredible (also pedro pascal is very hot as the mandalorian but that’s a separate conversation). quality wise it’s at the top of my list, but again i recommend watching it after at least some of clone wars, because i watched it before and didn’t understand some of what was happening. i’m rewatching it now after having watched most of star wars, and it makes a lot more sense lol.

the book of boba fett: confession i’ve only actually watched the first episode because i was waiting to watch it with my dad and we both got too busy, but the first episode slapped and also temeura morrison and ming na when are incredible so i know the rest of it should be good. the natural flow after finishing season two of the mandalorian is to watch book of boba fett, and i know from spoilers and stuff that it’ll make more sense with the clone wars and stuff beforehand.

Yeah I also love ted and brian’s friendship it feels so nice to watch. And we also have great storylines as you say, it’s just so painful sometimes.. I found myself struggling a lot more for the cancer arc than i did for the bashing, for example

4x01 is probably one of my favourite episodes EVER. Brian accepting his friends’ help, plus acknowledging them as partners.. in general in s4 their relationship feels a lot more stable and “mature”.. it really makes you believe that, after surviving that, they can survive anything (before s5 ruins it lol)

I do know they break up during this season! I had kinda removed the abrupt violence of the scene, that I’ve just rewatched, in which Brian throws Justin out, but I knew they split up.. but at least AT the beginning and AT the end of the season they’re together 😂 it feels so good to see them riconciliate a few episodes later and I’ve just realised that s4 Justin is probably my favorite Justin! it’s thanks to his determination and love that they got back together this time and I absolutely loved the “eat some fucking chicken soup” scene (s5 Justin feels so ooc to me, idk about you!)

I wanted to ask you, if I may, the reasons why you despise the pink posse arc (so do I btw)

I love hearing other fans perspectives because for me it's the opposite I was far more engaged with the bashing arc than the cancer one 😅

4x01 is a glorious episode Justin flipping the script back on Brian and getting him to accept the monetary help from them just like Brian helped Justin back in Season 2 with his loan for school, we love a parallel. Special honours for the end scene of Brian Kinney cuddling and nuzzling Justin's cheek outside declaring that his bed is for them and them only ALL THE FEELS. They are definitely more mature and stable in their relationship in that there's not the constant insecurity about how they feel about each other. Justin's not worrying that Brian doesn't love him and Brian has got over himself even advancing from his non defined, non conventional boyfriend to we're partners.

The chicken soup line is one of my all time favourite Justin lines and Randy's delivery of that whole speech is so satisfying to watch like yes call his ass out!

Lol even though it was a tiny split we must acknowledge it! I'm not a huge fan of Brian putting hands on Justin then (the scene I hate the most is during the pink posse arc when they actually hit each other like wtf glorified violence for dramas sake no thank you) I answered another ask about my pink posse thoughts which I'll attach below.

My favourite Justin is definitely Season 3 - Seeing him choose himself and his happiness over the fear of losing Brian. Don't get me wrong he and Ethan make me cringe but it was important for him to experience that. Plus I adore breakup era for britin. Standing up to his father and being proud of who he is and his be gay do crime stockwell era is 💯.

Yeah I've made many a post on the out of character writing for both Brian and Justin in Season 5 it was just a hot mess!

hi rant about esther/sandy skam brighton under the read more

the thing about esther/sandy as a romantic pairing is they’re literally friends. they’re JUST friends who happened to kiss a little and because they’re sixteen they believe it means they’re In Love. it’s very “the feeling was friendship, but neither of them had experienced it before”. esther, who has Never had a relationship or even kissed anyone before is just like Ah Yes, This Is What Romance Is when they just really Care about sandy and want to kiss her because she gives them the Attention they are so lacking in every other aspect of their life, and she lets them be the In Control and Stable one, which helps with their intense anxiety and insecurity. and sandy is just in a Bad Place she’s in a deeply abusive relationship and has Deep internalised homophobia, so she sees this out lesbian and Instantly clings onto them as a source of hope and fixates on esther as someone she Wants To Be. and sandy has trouble differentiating romantic and platonic attraction, as seen with sophie, and sandy really cares about esther because esther cares about her. we see that sandy is more there for esther as time goes on, but sandy is severely traumatised from being so abused for so long, as well as neglected by her parents, that she ALSO clings onto any form of attention she can find. so they’re both stuck in this cycle of giving each other attention and performing the role of a Good Couple because that’s what they Have to do, they’re young and gay, what other options do they have. if they break up it Ruins the club. and they’re genuinely really close friends, they Care about each other so much and do enjoy being physically affectionate with each other, but they’re not In Romantic Love. their 3 main sources of conflict outside of s1 are sandy breaking up with esther because of her trauma; them having trouble having sex due to sandy’s trauma; and esther having a Big reaction to sandy maybe leaving. in all of these, we see esther’s insecurities and anxieties get Shuffled Away and Temporarily Fixed Or Ignored and we see sandy’s trauma never Truly getting addressed or acknowledged in a therapeutic way, until (in my interpretation) after the events of season 4. they just stay together because it’s Easy and it’s what They Know and they’re Comfortable. they’re not unhappy but they’re not properly Happy either. they love each other but they don’t Love each other.

With the semi/cryptic confirmation of Ed and Barts relationship in the series I have a question:

Do you think everyone knows about them (in world) or do you think they’re keeping it secret from some?

It’s just a thought that’s been in my head recently. It is most likely fuelled by the whole drama of G&B not being able to depict a “specific character” (it’s definitely Bart) as gay. They’ve had to hide the relationship from their audience - because of ridiculous reasons - but there are still moments that bring up the question - Are they? Before the reveals from AskGreg, I kinda thought- well they are clearly not together yet, but perhaps they both have feelings for one another and are just waiting for the other to make the next move because they’re nervous idiots who don’t want to have read the situation wrong — all while their friends are like - seriously guys? just get together already. Kinda like they did in s1 with Wally and Artemis - and I guess early Supermartian as well - which I would have been okay with... though with the likelihood of there being at least another two year time skip you’d probably have missed the getting together moment - which would kinda suck. Anyway. With the information about the chances being they were supposed to clearly be in a relationship throughout S3 — which makes the whole structuring of ILLUSIONS just make sense — it’s got me viewing their moments with a whole new energy. And let me just clarify, I have no idea if this is actually referencing the Ed and Bart stuff, it might not be (probably isn't). This is purely me speculating.

My reading of this is they got told they couldn’t depict Bart as gay pretty late on and that specifically affected ILLUSIONS where they likely intended to confirm the relationship with that first shot - the kiss on the cheek moment. Even now that moment is just odd - because it’s there but it’s not - because technically there is no actual kiss… which I think is absolutely the point. It plants the seed without actually breaking any rules - all by keeping the momentum but removing the specific kiss frame. It’s the only moment that I feel is explicit in saying they are in a relationship - everything else you can just read into and imply there’s something - but they technically don’t confirm anything.

The whole thing is actually quite interesting - despite the reasoning for it being totally ridiculous. By keeping/showing what they did... People notice it. People talk about it. People reflect on it. More people talk about it. People writing. Make. Create. Discuss it. An entire audience is formed who want and support it. It’s a whole thing now because people noticed it and generated a positive response to it - and that was before all the AskGreg information. The whole reason YJ got a season 3 is because the fans fought to get it back. Enough people talked about it - and kept talking about it - to convince TPTB that the show should come back. Greg and Brandon know this. They know the power the fans have and maybe they hoped that power would help them again in freeing Bart from these ridiculous restrictions. #letbartoutofthecloset

Obviously, we can't know until S4 is released whether G&B got the permission to confirm Bart's sexuality the way they envisioned - but maybe the responses that came during the release of 3b were enough to convince TPTB that they were fighting a losing battle. But who knows, people in power can be very stubborn at times, so we will just have to see what we get. Fingers crossed they eased up though - and not just because of the Ed/Bart relationship (which I am obviously a fan of -- it's fine if not everyone is) - but because these restrictions on LGBTQ+ content shouldn't be a thing and need to stop -- there is just no validity in them.

Anyhow. despite their not being allowed to officially confirm the relationship, Greg's comment about Ed's having a boyfriend they can't name basically confirms the fact without technically breaking any rules again. Masterfully done Wiesman. With this, it implies the pair are in fact dating during S3 which brings us back to the original question... but who knows??

With the comments of Virgil during ILLUSIONS, it's easy to assume their friends do in fact know. They also seem to have no problem being close and interacting with one another whilst in the presence of others -- that is, except for one moment...

Ever since the first time I saw this episode (ELDER WISDOM) I have always found this moment strange - because Ed seems to get kinda awkward when Barry comes to check on Bart. (Or that's how I see it at least.) He realises Flash is standing there and immediately pulls his head down averting his gaze -- almost like he doesn't want to be seen by the elder. But why? Does Barry not know about the pair -- or maybe he doesn't know about Bart and Ed thinks their current closeness is too revealing -- who's to say Bart's even fully out to the world yet -- who's to say either of them are? We certainly don't since we weren't allowed to be shown. We can't know until we know - so until then we can play the speculation game while we wait.

Bart is certainly a bit of a secret keeper when it comes to being himself. I'm still convinced the Bart we see onscreen is merely his interpretation of what he thinks people expect from a speedster in this time. We saw 'real' Bart, he was snarky and cynical and nothing like the Bart we've had for the past two seasons. He said it himself - he's playing a character - and I don't think he knows how to break out of it - not while the possibility exists that it might hurt those he's grown to care about. Bart wants to be seen a certain way to avoid acknowledging the truth of the past - if people see him as happy and smiley, then no one will question him on things he doesn't want to talk about. The problem with that is you can't hide yourself forever - cracks begin to form and eventually, the truth comes out whether you want it to or not. So who knows how comfortable Bart is revealing any of his true self to those he cares about. Maybe his relationship with Ed will be the thing that finally helps him find comfort in being himself, whilst also trusting others to still accept him as himself... and maybe getting him that bit of therapy he really needs.

This brings us to Eduardo… First, can I just say it made me so happy to see Greg’s confirmation of Ed being gay - though it is slightly annoying that he was robbed of his explicit onscreen reveal in S3 thanks to the drama with Bart. His whole relationship to his powers in S2 to S3 fits the representation of coming to terms with your sexuality/identity from a very negative point of view. Feeling like it’s something that needs fixing or needs to be “cured” - to then finding the light and freedom in accepting yourself for you. His growth between seasons is brilliant. He understands the hate and insecurity the teens are feeling because he felt it himself. He does all he can to help them because he never felt he got that help when he needed it - and no one deserves to feel worse for being who they are. Obviously, the things he talks about are framed in the context of dealing with/accepting the meta-gene - yet there are certain moments where it seems he’s saying more than that…

All of which got me wondering - why did Ed originally runaway? It certainly wasn’t because of the meta-abilities he did not yet have. All he’s ever said on the subject was he thought he wanted to be with his father - the man it seems he barely had a relationship with. No, I think Ed has been running from himself for a long time and his dad just happened to be an actual direction for him to aim for. The way he speaks about his wanting to be “cured” and “praying to get rid of his powers” suggests an upbringing around religion and traditional ideas of there being a ‘normal/proper’ way to be — while anything that doesn’t fit that way is treated as other or something that needs to be changed or 'fixed'. Maybe he ran to avoid being found out and run the risk of being ostracised by those he loved. Or maybe he was found out and leaving wasn’t entirely his choice*. If this was the case, I can certainly imagine him not wanting to come out to his dad for fear of his reaction and completely losing all chance of that father-son relationship they’re both trying so hard to keep. It can seem easier to live in secret than risk the reality of loss. So while the meta-gene likely wasn’t the main thing he was angry about in S2, it was able to become a physical thing he could blame and focus his anger on - without having to think about where his issues truly lied… Though with a bit of time it also became the thing he was comfortable conveying his feelings through...

“I’ve learned to accept, even love my meta-abilities”

I love this line so much and it’s all because of the delivery by Freddy Rodrigues. There is the slightest hint of a pause before he says “meta-abilities”, which gives the impression he was about to say something else before then remembering himself and who he was talking to. Then there’s the small inflecion he put on “love”, which makes it sound like it’s the first time he’s heard himself say the words out loud. I don’t hear him talking about the gene - I hear him talking about finally accepting himself - all of himself - for the first time in maybe ever and finally feeling happy because of it. I hear growth... From being the angry 14-year-old skater who just wanted to run away and escape any way he could. To the 16-year-old councillor/Outsider jumping straight into the danger to protect and inspire those who need it. Both he and Bart are such strong characters with so much more to be seen - especially when it comes to the insecurities which lie behind their masks. They both compliment each other pretty perfectly - both powers-wise and personality-wise - meaning while they try to hide themself from others, I don't think it'll take long for them to realise they can't hide from each other.

Anywho, that’s all the speculatary nonsense I’ve got for today. This turned into such a patchwork of vaguely linkable thoughts I’ve had which barely relate to the one I started with - but that is usually how it goes. Take it as you will…

Also, completely unrelated to YJ, but Bi Tim Drake now exists in dc canon which is really cool - seeing all of the joy it’s sparked has really given me something to smile about this week… There is hope after all. 🌈

* OK so here’s a little random snapshot into the chaos of my mind— as I was writing the Ed stuff I had a scene pop into my head of Ed finally -for whatever reason- having to tell his dad that he didn’t leave his abuelo’s home - he got kicked out. His dads confused about this and asks Why? What did you do? And Ed’s like Nothing… I didn’t do anything wrong… he just… found out something. So Seniors like Found out what Eduardo? And Ed’s getting really nervous now because he doesn’t want to say it - That I, um… I’m… Senior step a fraction closer as he picks up on Ed’s anxiety but remains an appropriate distance - Son? Then after a tensening silence he finally says it - sounding the most vulnerable he has ever been - I’m gay… The silence is there again, heavy and unnerving, neither saying a word. Ed can’t move as he’s lock in his elders unreadable glare. Expecting the worse his head drops to take in the floor - anything that isn’t the disappointment ahead - he feels the urge to disappear burning up inside him - consuming him. Then just as he’s about to escape he’s suddenly grounded by a steadying hand rooting itself on his shoulder. Tentatively he lifts his gaze to witness his father, there, with nothing but love and support in his eyes - Mijo. The clamping in his chest dissipates as all the tension escapes at once, along with the breath he hadn’t realised he was holding. Ed embraces his dad and the elder embraces his son. Together. A family.

Anyway. That’s probably a load of rubbish but hey my minds full of it… but basically I really want to see a tender moment between Ed and his dad. For whatever reason. Something where Ed’s in a vulnerable state and in need of some emotional support from his father - and without hesitation his father steps up - because that’s what we haven’t seen from them yet. It would perfectly portray the strength of their relationship as father and son - despite their previous struggles - and prove that Senior is willing to support his son no matter the situation as the father - not just the scientist. Its the final step in their healing journey and I wanna see it so bad!!
