Ringlord High King of Everything Elrond, inspired here

I imagine in this situation elrond would have been partially tempted by boromir's declaration, but instead of trying to fight sauron with it (because even in the weirdest crack au i can think of elrond is still too genre-aware to try that) he tried to use it to supercharge his use of vilya and protect everyone.

basically Ringlord!Elrond turned the entirety of Eriador into a mega-gondolin situation: massive walls (courtesy of numenorean/eregion tech) around the regions bordering the north or Mordor, fortresses along the mountain range and several layers of gates along every road in or out. Everybody goes in; nobody goes out; everyone is safe.

and he ended up claiming the kingship to give him more authority in the process - he's High King of the Noldor and Sindar and King of the Edain (given that there are like three half-vanyar in middle-earth, he's more or less king of all children of iluvatar) and so he can have command over the entirety of the West.

and with the help of the Ring, this actually works! but the corruption starts to show eventually

he uses his kinship to Gondor to forcefully drag them into his neo-gondolin-empire-creation so he can ensure none of his great-nephews will ever have to face sauron. he extends the walls to encompass Mirkwood, because he's the high king of the sindar and has a duty to protect thranduil's realm, and unleashes the full might of his melian-lite powers to purge Sauron's Shadow and the spawn of Ungoliant from the now-Greenwood.

Galadriel and Glorfindel very much see where this is going and are very very worried. galadriel won't let him build walls around lothlorien (because she lives next door to a balrog and knows exactly what happened to gondolin) but celeborn thinks it's a good idea, since after all Doriath wouldn't have fallen if Melian's girdle had still been up. glorfindel tries to talk him out of it but the ring has taken hold

the Ring's power also enhances all his natural weirdness and powers - he has his wings and maia markings permanently activated now, with or without finwean anger. he can fully shapeshift, and he goes from raising waves in the bruinen to raising tsunamis in the great sea.

except the finwean anger seems to be permanently activated now, too, and anyone who harms someone he's deemed under his protection finds themselves the target of a rather ironic vengeance quest. the shapeshifting is looking weird now - his teeth are always sharp now, and his eyes have gone fully inhuman. sometimes he has claws and his wings look more like bats than eagles. and his water powers are more like osse's- he can't calm the waters now (goldberry is the first to notice something's up) and can only stir them into massive ship-sinking storms and tsunamis.

this progresses until he's basically Evil Luthien ruling over a continent-wide Mega-Gondolin, slaughtering orc-hordes before they even reach the white walls and sinking any naval fleet Sauron tries to send around the coast. Everybody is brought in; nobody leaves; everyone is safe...?

he figures out that the dwarven legend of "Durin's Bane" has to be one of the few first age balrogs thats still unaccounted for. and well, it's living right on his border, and he can't risk another fall of gondolin, right? so he leads a small force in there to clear moria, and they shove the balrog off the edge, but it takes one of his captains (except glorfindel) with it (maybe erestor?) and he uses the ring and saves erestor, (and maybe floods the balrog for good measure), and glorfindel is sure he saw elrond's eyes go yellow for a moment.

and even fully corrupted, he knows he can't take the ring directly into mordor. but he can wipe out sauron's armies outside the walls, to protect his kingdom - because turgon's mistake was thinking he was safe even when there were balrogs and dragons and orcs outside, right?

somewhere along the way, arwen realizes what's happening and goes to live with galadriel. one of the twins goes with her; the other stays out of loyalty but eventually follows.

elrond's kingdom has become a cross between doriath and gondolin now, with all the surrounding lands warped by ring-magic to hide it, and layers of stone walls and iron gates preventing anyone from leaving. because everyone is here; nobody leaves; everyone is... safe?

Hey, thanks for the ask, I'm always happy to answer questions about my art!

( I realized after I wrote this up how long this ended up being, sorry in advance)

I wish I had an interesting answer here, but honestly, I haven't thought it out too much. I was rereading the books last year and the idea of the Elven Ring bearers having to keep the rings hidden so they didn't fall under Sauron's thrall kind of stuck with me. I thought it'd be fun to play with what that could look like.

I'm not much of a writer, unfortunately, and I haven't thought too much about it besides some of the aesthetic choices I made. I can talk about the design decisions I made, if that's worth anything.

Galadriel is probably the most basic in concept for me, I wanted to play visually with being underwater and being kind of distant and above everything. The eyes were an attempt to play with idea of foresight

For Olorin I was thinking that everything that was Gandalf was burned away and kind of playing with a Balrog theme. I think as a Maia he's the most dangerous and the most powerful of the group. We see in the books Gandalf is definitely very proud, he knows how powerful and intelligent he is, you could potentially end up with another Sauron

For Cirdan I just had this thought of burning from inside. He's put up with so much, accepted so much pain and grief and disappointment that I feel like that would be the source of the flame, that it would just burst out. And then I kind of went with a dragon theme to match the Balrog theme (Olorin was drawn first)

Elrond was the first I conceptualized and the first I drew. The idea of the wings were what sparked everything. His mother got wings so he gets them, but more. Biblically accurate Elrond. I just wanted to kind of mess with the themes I always do with him so stars, and blues. But now instead of being a show of his lineage it's the void consuming him. Really wanted to play into the Eldritch Peredhel concept I've seen bounce around tumblr

And this final one is a bit of a spoiler. It's going up tomorrow, but I'm sure with the inclusion of Cirdan, Gil Galad isn't a suprise.

For Gil-Galad I wanted to play with the concept of air in a different way. He's dead, he's barely there. Just a memory of what was, twisted.

This ended up being WAY longer than I meant! I think a lot about design choices when I'm drawing, but don't usually end up saying much about them when I post. It was fun to talk about it!

Fics Living Rent-free in my Mind Game

I was tagged by @runawaymun to talk about the stories/AUs I have loafing around inside my brain but haven't actually written any stories for yet (whether of not said stories made it to the light of day for others to see). You might notice a pattern with the kinds of things I think about but never write 😳. Also most of them are co-parented with Nightie.

Anyone can send me an ask about anything on this list and I will be happy to talk at great length about the insanity of what's in my head.

The Breeding AU - look, Elrond is a blurbo and the only way I got through my theriogenology class was by inflicting what I studied on blurbos... and sometimes I need an au where the elves are desperately trying to rebuild their population at the end of the 1st age.

Tiny Erestor AU - an au of the rarely talked about Tiny Elrond au (which I've written several stories for but haven't got around to posting yet), in which both Elrond and Erestor are two inches tall. Everyone else is normal sized.

Balrog Porno AU - Glorfindel, Turgon, and Ecthelion get hired to act in a high budget porn movie with balrogs. Ecthelion's the only professional actor of the three.

Gil-galad's stressed about being the king. what it says on the tin plus Elrond distracting him with being sexy and then they work together to create a government that doesn't needs a king so Gil can retire.

Art Therapy in Mandos, Feanor-style - Feanor, a box of crayons, a meditative coloring book, and nothing but time.

Stealthros AU - The Feanorians are dragons, the silmarils are eggs, and Elrond just hissed and bit Gil-galad's hand.

[edit, how did I forget!] Marsupial elves AU - everything's the same except the elves are marsupial and they all have pouches for their cute little kids to hang out in, oh and Celebrian, Elrond, and Gil-galad are together. Being part human and maia, Elrond doesn't have a pouch, a fact his children greatly resent.

Also this will be less of like, explanations of teams, and more little trivia, headcanons, and character relationships.

Eevee is a very common starter Pokémon in...Middle earth region (idk), due to its popularity in breeding, their easy to handle for children, and the many evolution possibilities. The bardlings, Sam and Frodo, Legolas, Bard, and Thranduil all had an Eevee as their first Pokémon

Sam and Frodo's Eevees were particularly close, and even evolved into an Espeon and Umbreon just minutes apart.

Aragorn and Boromir both started out their respective journeys with a Honedge, and it's the initial source of their friendly rivalry. Their strats with Aegislash is wildly different however, as Aragorn depend more on the blade form while Boromir leans on the shield form more

In their youth, both Elrond and Galadriel dabbled in Pokémon contests before taking on their respective gyms. Both still keep up with the scene even years later, and both are quite intrigued by the curly haired upstart with his Gogoat

Almost everyone in the region knows that gym leader Sauroman and professional nuisance Gandalf are divorced, but almost no one has any memory of the two of them actually being married. Even people in their age range only ever remember the two as divorced. It's one of the many anomalies surrounding Gandalf Gray.

Mirkwood is not the actual name of the city, but Greenwood. Surrounding the city is a thick forest, populated mainly by mean spirited fairy and dark types, that drove away most of the grass types that kept it, well, green. The forest became a creepy and dark place made to get lost in, so it gained the nickname of ‘Mirkwood’ most inhabitants of the city dislike the name strongly, and sees it as an insult.

Many young trainers fear entering the forest due to how easy it is to loose your way in it, and how dark it is even during the day. This is why Illumise and Volbeat are very popular Pokémon around that part of the region

Despite being generally unhelpful and sometimes a bit grumpy, Gandalf is extremely kind to to everyone he meets, and does see the potential in everyone. The one exception to this is Peregrin fucking Took, who he for some reason is extremely hostile and rude towards. Pippin takes this as a compliment

Champion Lobelia Sackville-Baggins team consists of six Alakazams, all of which can mega evolve. I am committing to this bit

Bard Dragon retired around the time Bain was born, wishing to spend more time with his family. He was, to no one's surprise, a Dragon specialist, but in current day he only still has two of his old team with him, his Hydreigon (Was a Zweilous back during his gym leader days), and his Goodra.

Aragorn and Legolas are childhood friends, and have always traveled together. They started traveling with Gimli when they reached Erebor city, and needed a guide to navigate the mountain, as it's easy to get lost. He just sorta stuck around after that.

So far Aragorn has had run ins with Ho-Oh, Raikou, Celebi (Twice!), Shaymin, Arceus (That was an experience), Victini, and Zeraora. He has no idea as to why they are so drawn to him.

Merry and Pippin caught their Zigzagoon's and their Plusle and Minun entirely separately on different occasions. They're a little bit pissed that they have matching teams, as people mix them up enough already.

The Pokémon professor of the region is an odd fellow by the name of Tom Bombadill. No one knows what he’s studying, no one knows what his deal is, but he is in possession of several legendary Pokémon so no one really fucks with him.

I need y’all to forgive me for what I’m about to say

But I have another Gil-Galad origins crack theory that is so fucking ridiculous that it makes me out of breath laughing but is so interesting that I cannot let it go

Gil-Galad Dragon Theory. Now here me out-

Gil-Galad was originally a dragon who who got turned into an elf to act as a spy for Morgoth but in typical dragon behavior, said “Fuck that, I’m gonna dip and be king. Peace out” and was vibing with elves. Until Sauron’s bitch ass popped up again and asked him wtf he was doing actually being a good king and not spreading chaos and fear like he was supposed to be doing. And in typical dragon behavior with a heavy dose of dragon territorialness and possessive over his kingdom/territory, he snitched on him, and kicked him tf out of his kingdom.

When Sauron kills Celebrimbor, he’s extremely pissed because he really liked that elf and became quite fond of him and how dare he kill him He just lost his best jewel smith who made the best jewelry and one of the few that didn’t try to smother Gil-Galad in gold (he’s not fucking Glaurung! He doesn’t need to be covered in gold! Give him silver! Silver more shiny!). So when it’s time to head to Mordor and face Sauron, Gil-Galad knows that he is not strong enough to defeat him (tbh none of these elves are, he’s seen Sauron when he served Morgoth, he knows what he can do) but fuck it, he’s gonna go out in a blaze of fire and glory like a true dragon.

And because I’m a dramatic bitch, I’m gonna add some spice to his last moments. He stabs Sauron multiple times, but the spear eventually broke and he gets kicked to the side. When he sees Elendil go down, Gil knows that he needs to make a distraction. So he summons up the last of his strength, knowing that it would kill him and/or destroy his body, and full on body slams Sauron. Really channeling the classic Crazy Ass Finwean energy here. When Sauron finally manages to grab him by the neck and gives him his shit-talking villain monologue while beginning to burn his body, Gil-Galad smiles in his face and says basically the equivalent of “Fuck off” and burst his body into white fire, startling Sauron. Then Isildur chops off Sauron’s hand, takes the ring, yada yada, you know the drill. The End

Or is it?

Does this theory, not even a theory, crack conspiracy, make any fucking sense at all? Hell no

Am I entertained by it? Abso fucking lutely!

Is that all I care about and all that matters at the end of the day? YES!

Canon x canon pairings (MxM, FxF, or MxF ; please be open to writing at least two of those ; I don't write with people who only do MxF) are my favorite. I'm okay with doing some canon x OC ones (MxM or FxF only). I like my threads to be set within the universe so no AUs that are way off the beaten path. I do prefer writing romantic ships with NSFW/smut involved but also with a very healthy dose of plot. If you'd rather keep things clean and/or do platonic ships, I'm willing to take that into consideration.
