okok so: season 13, ep 11 spoilers ahead but — ducky still believed that his brother was dead when he got home to the reader!

i woke up to a loud thud coming from down the stairs. quickly, i put a jumper on, grabbing onto anything sharp i could find, just in case it was a burglar. i cautiously made my way down the stairs to investigate the sudden noise.

i reach the bottom of the stairs and see donald, a smile appeared onto my face when i seen him but, it quickly faded when i realised that he was on the floor with tears streaming down his face.

“oh my love, what happened today at work?” i asked worried as raced towards him, and sat on the floor beside him. quickly, i embraced him in my arms and started playing with his hair, trying to sooth him. he put his face in my chest, and cried harder against it.

“what happened?” i repeated. when he managed to catch his breathing he lifted his head to look at me. all his eyes reflected was pain, “love, please tell me what’s wrong so i can try help you.”

the doctor that was so famous for always having something to say, stayed silent. he seemed to be confused and trying to find the right words to recount had what happened.

“we-,” he cleared his voice, “uh… the case we had today was especially difficult. before the work day even started i got this call in uh, autopsy… they said that they were a lawyer, and that they hand information on, uh… nicholas,”

nicholas, donald had told me all about him; all about nicholas’ mum, about how nicholas loved trains, about hot chocolate and about how much donald loved him, he told me everything — including what had happened to him. i only held donald tighter, telling him that it was okay to continue.

“so, i... um, i agreed to meet this lawyer outside, i soon figured out that the lawyer didn’t know anything about nicholas that was he was instead, fishing for information about nicholas. i tried to leave but, next thing i know, i’m on the floor of a van and gagged. jethro found me, thankfully and managed to let me out.” after donald stopped talking, it was my turn to talk.

“oh my love, i’m so sorry that you had to go through that. i know even mentioning nicholas’ name makes you wince… do you mind me asking if that was all that happened at work, or did something else happen?” i questioned, trying to understand the situation better.

“well, at some point jethro and his team discovered a letter addressed to me by nicholas, but the thing is, i had never seen this letter before. abigail did some with her forensics and, she discovered that the letter was written only three weeks ago, which ment… nicholas was alive.” the frown on my face soon turned into shock.

“but, i thought he died? how is that possible?”

“the thing is, it wasn’t my nicholas.” tears started spilling from his eyes once more.

“it’s okay my love, just breath.”

he manages to steady his breathing and continues, “the team figured out where nicholas was and i came along. jethro told me to stay outside, and i did just that — that was until i heard gunshots and, an ‘all clear’ from jethro. i went inside to see a man tied to a chair, he said that the man tied up was nicholas,” donald closed his eyes, trying to stop the tears from spilling. “he may be nicholas… but he was not my nicholas.” tears started spilling out of his eyes.

“oh darling, i’m so truly sorry. i know how much he meant to you, i’m so sorry my love. that must have been so awful.” i said whilst i held him tighter in my arms.

“they thought he was alive, i believed that he was alive,” he said whilst sobbing. “and i- i just, don’t know what to do.” donald broke down. his eyes were filled with pain and suffering, his body shaking. i took his face and faced it towards myself, i placed a gentle kiss onto his lips, then onto his forehead, and i then brought his head back into my chest.

“donald, how about we go upstairs — get you into your jammies and into bed?” i proposed, wanting to make donald feel more comfortable. he nodded at me, slightly smiling.

donald was now in bed with the covers over him. i make my way to the door, before i can leave i hear donald say, “where are you going?”

i turn around to face him, his eyes still puffy and full of pain. i softly smile at him, “i’m going to make u some tea my love.” i start to leave the room once more, but i feel him embrace me from behind.

“no need dear, i don’t want any tea, i just need you here with me. is that okay?” he whispers in my ear.

“of course it is donald,” we make our way to the bed and both lay down. “is there anyway i can help you feel better?” i ask softly.

“could you um… just, please hold me.”

louie and webby are able to do perfect imitations of huey and dewey respectively, which would've made for a fantastic episode of doppelgänger nonsense

a goldie and della episode where they fight over who gets to spend the day with louie, ending with the three of them on a scheme together. this is pretty self indulgent but I think it'd be fun

donald and drake mallard being paragons of horrendous luck?!! come on that'd be such a cool duo to explore!!!

in general I want more st canard shenanigans but I MISS MY BOY HONKER‼️episode where he and gosalyn meet and become friends

louie and mark beaks - tbh I don't actually know why they didn't interact as much in the show? I think the first beaks episode coulda replaced dewey with louie since they both are money oriented and easy-way-out fellas

lena, gosalyn, violet, and webby having a girl's night. cannot believe this didn't happen in the show can you imagine?! they get into some crazy adventure at a sleepover at gos's place, it'd be so cool

Since I’ve never acknowledged them all in one space before, I thought I’d share some fan art from my fan fics.

This was commissioned by my editor from my friend as a scene from “The Duck Knight in Duckburg”, one of the first stories I wrote with feedback from an editor, and possibly the first story on fanfiction.net that had Drake Mallard and Donald Duck hang out and talk about their kids. I did age up the triplets to give Launchpad time to finish his Duck Tales with the 1987 gang and still build the Thunderquack for Darkwing Duck. I would write this story differently now if I had the attention span for it, but my duck muse has been sadly absent since I started “A Hero’s Ultimatum” over ten years ago.

This one is paraphrased slightly but it’s a comic of one of my other fanfics, “The Best Present Ever.” The idea was suggested to me in a comment on one of my fics and I shared the story with the commenter and became friends with them! That was my first foray into online forums, role-playing rpg stories, and meeting other like-minded people, and I will forever be grateful for the experience! I was really tickled when an artist contacted me about drawing my story later. I can only imagine how much work this took!

Darkwing Duck is such an interesting show when you think about it. Like it technically takes place in the Mickey and Friends world, but we don't actually get to see Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, or anyone. In fact the main reason we know that they may be there is because a couple of characters from Ducktales 87 show up and Ducktales is connected to Donald, Scrooge, and Huey, Dewey, Louie. And then Ducktales 17 deepened the connection further.

Like it is hard to wrap your head around that Drake Mallard and Mickey Mouse should be in the same world, due to how separate yet connected Darkwing Duck is.

Like can you imagine another show like it.

The NCIS showrunners for a hot second thought about channeling Avengers: Endgame and having everybody show up for the funeral of Dr. Donald Mallard in this week’s Ducky/David McCallum tribute episode.

But when that proved wildly impractical and logistically improbable, they zeroed in on a singular cameo that was rich with history but also lightened up the very heavy hour.

Speaking with TVLine at a Jan. 19 event celebrating 1,000 total NCIS franchise episodes (in the video above), co-showrunner Steven D. Binder shared, “In a perfect world, what we first imagined was what the Marvel Cinematic Universe did when Tony Stark died…. Our original thought was, ‘Can we get everybody?'”

But having “everybody” of pertinence from NCIS‘ past quickly proved itself to be above and beyond the TV series’ non-MCU budget; additionally, actor availability and scheduling issues would have been insurmountable, the EPs explained.

Abandoning that Endgame notion, Binder said, “We gave a lot of thought to who Ducky is connected to most, which on one level would be Gibbs,” last played by exec producer Mark Harmon more than two years ago. “But it was Jimmy who was there, so it was [about] who Jimmy would connect with, and also bring some levity… and that was Michael Weatherly,” reprising his role as former team member Tony DiNozzo. “It’s really a no-brainer.”

Weatherly was very game for the cameo and slipped right back into the role as if nearly eight years hadn’t passed. “He’s DiNozzo again, there’s nothing rusty…,” notes co-showrunner North. “As soon as he walked into that autopsy room, I thought, ‘DiNozzo’s back.'”

But if you don’t bring Harmon back for an episode celebrating an esteemed fellow original cast member, when does he return?

“Of course the door is always open,” said Binder. But, the EP pointed out, “When we bring him back, we’re not going to bring him back for two minutes” a la Weatherly’s cameo. “It’s got to be something special.”

Gladstone Gander with their girlfriends plus his nephew - Duck comics and Quack Pack AU

Gladstone Gander is Donald's cousin who is always happy, but sometimes a dork. Anyway, he's a good character. And that he has a lot of girlfriends. Unfortunately, he mostly fights with Donald over Daisy Duck, which gets boring. Even though I sometimes like their arguments, it goes too far in many things. Donald has a right to Daisy as well as his other girlfriends, but he also has a right to Gladstone Gander to his own. Yes, I know about Magicstone (the love couple between Gladstone and Magica de Spell) and I love that couple and it's really cool, but I prefer Gladstone Gander with some other girls. in this case it is two. One is called Feather Mallard and she appeared in the comic "Lady Duck" in the Danish edition of Egmont in 2001 and she brings more luck than Gladstone. Yes, Gladstone wasn't always lucky enough to find coins on the street unlike Feather, but either way they got along well. So they make a good couple.

The other girl on the other side of Gladstone is Linda Paper. She appears in the Italian comic Gastone e la fortuna inopportuna, where Linda Paper serves as a maid in a rich house, but is too unlucky. Fortunately, she finds good fortune with Gladstone and falls in love with him. And yes, they serve as a good couple.

There is also Gladstone's cousin called Shamrock Gander who often brings good luck like his uncle, but unfortunately often annoys Donald's nephews, much like Gladstone did with Donald. Still, Shamrock isn't satisfied.

Yes, in my Quack Pack AU I plan to bring Donald's cousins into it as well, so does Gladstone Gander with his girlfriends, as well as his nephew Shamrock. Shamrock is about to change his hair. Yes, in the Quack Pack AU, I imagine Gladstone as a famous actor who lives in a rich house, but due to some circumstances he will also have to live a humble life to get his two girlfriends, Feather and Linda. I hope you like this drawing. And please don't attack me for this, I love all couples that make sense, including these couples. Poor Shamrock, he's going to have two aunts.

why *is* your avatar a mallard duck anyway, i'm not sure i've ever known? i have a vague memory that the username is a portmanteau of "pedant" for obvious reasons (/affectionate) and "panther" for pink panther related reasons that are completely opaque to me, but none of this seems relevant to ducks at first glance.

The avatar and the username are not connected, except in that they date to the same early years of my online existence. The username derives from an old joke about the Pink Panther's career as a pest exterminator, but that's another story.

The story of the mallard begins many years ago, when I was Very Young, and a relative gave me a toy duckling, with pale blue down on the outside and a squeaker on the inside. With the originality of the Very Young, I named him Donald.

I used to imagine Donald going on adventures, and in particular, once I'd latched on to Doctor Who, Donald going on adventures through space and time in a toy car which I had decided was a disguised TARDIS.

Years passed, and I went to college, and started hanging out online in the places where we hung out before Tumblr had been invented, and made some of the friends I still hang out with now. One of them was @capricorn-0mnikorn, who founded a Doctor Who flavoured online roleplaying-collaborative storytelling thing that ran for several years. When it came to the point of inserting myself into the story, I couldn't quite make the leap to considering myself interesting in my own right, so I revived Donald the intrepid space-time adventurer and his TARDIS and cast myself as his sidekick.

When I wanted a picture to represent Donald, I picked one out of a picture book I'd also had since I was Very Young. The colouration isn't really right, but it seemed appropriate to use something that I'd also had for a long time, and in the full sized picture the mallard has a mischievous twinkle in his eye that is very Donald.

More time passed, and online spaces came and went, and it became common for user profiles to expect an avatar image. I started using the mallard picture at first because I was still hanging around with many of the same people who'd been there for the collaborative storytelling thing, and I've kept using it since because I'm the kind of person who finds it easier to make a choice once and then consider it done with unless and until I have some reason to change it.

And unlike Ahab, I’ve landed a good number of them!

What is a White Whale? Besides the obvious actual animal that no decent person should even hurt, it is an objective that is relentlessly or obsessively pursued but difficult to achieve. And for me, it's researching characters for Death Battle. Previous White Whales I got were Sonic for Mario Vs Sonic 2, Hal Jordan for Green Lantern Vs Ben 10, Red Ranger for Leonardo Vs the Red Ranger, Akuma for Akuma Vs Shao Khan, and as you can guess the next match. So while I still have one more researched match, it's not really one of my big gets. So today, I would like to highlight 10 (technically 11) of my most wanted research assignments. When will these happen? That’s what makes them White Whales.

1 - Anything Powerpuff Girls

I am a big time Powerpuff Girls fan and I can’t wait till Death Battle actually does this. Between HIM, Mojo Jojo and any three of the Powerpuff Girls, you got plenty of options for Death Battle competitors. Now the question is who could they fight. I’m always a big fan of HIM vs Bill Cipher. Mojo is a gold mine for possible matchups. And any one of the girls would do a fine job representing the Powerpuff Girls. All that matters is finding the right matchup and getting assigned it.

2 - The Silver Surfer

Like the Ghost Rider, I grew up getting the Silver Surfer comics in the mail. I still have the #50 issue that if I got graded I could make a pretty penny. I would love to read all the old Silver Surfer Comics I grew up with and all the new stuff that came out since then. I’ve even read about how he found another love and technically survived the big bang. Would love to know the details about this. And we can’t talk about the Silver Surfer without the guy who made him the Surfer he is…

3 - Galactus

Galactus is a fascinating character. An all powerful space entity who doesn’t have any desires positive and negative about other creatures but is considered a dangerous threat because he has to feed and the only thing that can satisfy his hunger are worlds filled with life. Imagine how much fun it would be to see just how powerful he can be. I even heard he actually crossed over into the Ultimate universe. Would be fun to see how that turned out.

4 - Scooby Doo

Scooby Doo is a fascinating franchise. So many series with so many styles, continuities and philosophies, Scooby Doo can be anywhere from goofy and silly to serious and action packed. Even the newest movie Trick or Treat Scooby Doo shows just how much life there still is in the Scooby Doo franchise. I would love to go through all the episodes and movies to see just what Scooby Doo is really capable of.

5 - Darkwing Duck

He is the Terror that Flaps in the Night. He is the matchup you get when you want a different opponent for that character. He’s Darkwing Duck! I would love to bring one of my favorite Cartoon Ducks to Death Battle. I would say Daffy or Donald but that would be like picking a favorite child. So to bring the Masked Mallard in Death Battle will be an honor.

6 - Tenchi Muyo

I grew up with Tenchi when it was on Toonami. To bring in Tenchi himself or even Ryoko would be a treat for me. To revisit that series, read the manga and find out exactly where all this Washi is a goddess thing is.

7 - The Undertaker and Cactus Jack

Macho Man showed us the silly side of wrestling thanks to his many external activities. But if you want to see just how far wrestling can get, these two are the big fish. With the Undertaker, you have the most deep lore possible, with demons and devils and universal writing capabilities. With Cactus Jack, you have the most brutal and dangerous side where you can lose an ear and still be wrestling or be caught in an exploding barbed wire ring. The complete tonal opposite of Macho Man.

8 - Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog

A match I keep suggesting is a Cartoon Sonic Battle Royal. And as much as I love Sonic Boom, I want to give my attention to the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. I think they can bring a lot more to the table than people think they could. After all, while Archie was inspired by SatAM, it's the AotSh tone that made Archie the broken thing it is.

9 - Outlaw Star

Outlaw Star is another anime I grew up with when it was on Toonami. You have a lot of fun characters to use: "Twilight" Suzuka with her wooden sword that can cut metal. Aisha Clanclan the alien with a powerful secondary form. And Gene Starwind with possibly the most fun weapon in his Caster Gun. I would love to relive this series and see just how well they can do in a Death Battle.

10 - Punisher

My earliest memory of Frank Castle was a crossover comic with Batman. How he was willing to kill the Joker right then and there but Batman stopped him. Then years later, during the Civil War, I see Frank Castle refusing to fight back despite Capt. America beating him up. Refusing to do so during training during the war and refusing to fight back despite Rogers being extremely mad. Because he respects the costume too much to go against him. I would love to show why he does what he does and why he believes no one should replicate what he does.

I just imagine the future Mallard-McQuack household being filled with Bo and Thad coming up with the plans while Bea and Birdie execute them, and if they get caught the girls pull sad eyes that Dew-Dad falls for. Every. Time. Which the boys account for.

Dew-Dad, Grandpa Drake, Zayde Launchpad, Uncle Donald, Uncle Storkules.... They all fall under the spell of those sad eyes. From all four of the kids, not just the girls, too.

Of all the crime scenes that Ducky has ever worked, at least he could say that this one was the most aesthetically pleasing.

Apart from the unfortunate reason for their being here, Ducky would have greatly enjoyed taking a stroll through these woods with you on a normal day. The sun filtered in through the treetops, dappling the greenery and making everything warm and bright. The air smelled of oak tree and Spanish moss, and it helped him breathe a little easier.

Ducky could almost pretend that this was a romantic stroll, but as always, something must ruin the fantasy for him. Namely, the evidence bags you were carrying.

Not preferable, but Ducky’s not so picky to sour this precious alone time. It’s been sorely lacking lately - though, he reckons he’s to blame for that.

He takes in a deep breath to admire that oaky scent again, but this time, it comes along with a tickle in his lungs. Ducky can’t help but cough - easily hidden. You don’t even notice, or deem it bad enough to speak up about.

His lucky eventually runs thin. The coughs progressively get worse, and eventually, you look over to him. A worried look on your face, and no doubt about to ask if he’s alright. Ducky doesn’t give you the chance; the shakes of his body has him doubled over, coughing violently into his hand.

His chest rattles painfully. Throat aches. Through it all, he feels your hand on his shoulder, and your voice say his name. “Are you alright?” You ask him lightly.

Immediately, Ducky nods his head without even looking up. “I’m only getting over a nasty cold,” he replies in a hoarse voice. It’s hard to speak when there’s something in the back of his throat. “Go on ahead, I’ll catch my breath.”

“Are you sure?” You sound reluctant.

It makes Ducky feel bad, but he nods again. “Positive, my dear. Fresh air will do me some good.” The coughs starts back up, and the hand over his mouth does little to stifle it.

He senses your hesitance, but thankfully, you carry on down the trail without him. Ducky’s eyes flicker up, assuring you’re no longer in sight before he finally straightens. He’s wheezing. His chest feels raw, but the bout of coughs seems to have passed.

His eyes flicker back down to his hand. As he opens it, the familiar red petals bundle up in his hand. If there’s blood mixed in with them, Ducky can’t notice. Though, he wouldn’t be surprised.

It’s not a comforting thought. For a moment, Ducky wonders what Jethro would do if he found out about this. Would likely stick his nose into his personal business, mask his actions by telling him ‘it’s for your own good.’ As is his old friend is any authority on doing what’s best for oneself.

Ducky shakes his head, and stuffs the tulip petals deep into his pocket with the others.

“My preliminary findings were correct: cause of death was a single blow to the back of the victim’s head. It killed him instantly.”

“Alright. Thank you, Ducky,” McGee says quickly. He turns away from the coroner, making towards the autopsy doors and leaving you behind to study the scans he took. “I need to help Abby with something. I’ll be up there if you need me!”

It’s quiet after the doors slide shut. Ducky’s eyes move over to you, still standing by the slides and examining the damage done to the victim. And for the first time, he finds himself at a loss for words. Unable to speak about anything, because he’s afraid that speaking would lead to more coughing. The fit he had in the forest was too close for comfort.

Though it goes against his wishes, Ducky needs to keep some distance. Just until he decides what he outta do. “Will Jethro be looking for you?” He pipes up.

You throw him a glance over your shoulder, still obviously focused on the films. He wishes he had your focus, right now. “No, he and Tony went to speak with the victim’s family,” you respond. “They won’t be back until-”

You’re cut off with a single harsh, chest-rattling cough. It instantly doubles you over, and the more you try to breath in, the worse the coughs get. They sound ugly - nearly a death rattle, and Ducky knows too well how those sound.

He’s shocked, for a brief moment. You seemed so healthy? Perhaps Ducky’s imaginary cold had jumped over to you.

The confusion is pushed away the next second, and Ducky is rushing over. He puts a hand on your back, and doesn’t like how much it shakes with each cough. “Follow me, my dear. Come sit down. I’ll make you some tea; it’ll help soothe that cough of yours,” Ducky says lightly.

You find it difficult to walk. Too caught up in the wracks of coughing. And Ducky didn’t need another fit of his own for it to make his chest ache.

He leads you over to his desk chair, pulls it out, and sits you down on it. And immediately, you bend over. Elbows on your knees, hands on your chest, as if willing the coughs away. Ducky tries soothing you by running his hand up and down your back.

But among the pure white of autopsy, it’s not difficult to seek out a bright crimson clump of tulip petals on the floor.

The sight of it makes him go cold, and immediately, Ducky’s other hand wonders down to his pocket. Shoves it inside to find that, yes, his stash of crushed petals are still there. And besides, the tulip petals on the ground look new. Pristine. Unbothered by pocket lint.

His gaze eventually wonders to you, bent over in the chair. And slowly, Ducky kneels down onto one knee. Leans over to catch your eyes, and he attempts to take a breath before speaking up. “Are you coughing up those petals?” He asks, motioning to the clump on the floor.

Your eyes avert from his, as if ashamed. But you nod.

“For how long?”

“A month,” you reply, voice rough and almost sad. “It won’t stop, and I don’t know why.”

Ducky’s quiet for a few long seconds. Keeps blinking, almost suspecting that he’s dreaming, but the constant rattle in his chest breaks the illusion. His hands tremble slightly as he pushes his hand back into his pocket. And delicately, he takes out several of the crumbled up tulip petals.

They feel heavier now, somehow. Ducky almost backs away, but his arm sticks out, and his hand opens to reveal the red remains of this morning’s coughing fit in the forest. He watches your eyes grow wide; of shock or recognition, he isn’t sure. “That’s about as long as I’ve been sick,” Ducky says carefully. “It’s a disease, my dear. One of unrequited love.”

In that instant, your eyes flash up to his.

Unrequited love - it’s a feeling you’re familiar with. “You’re in love with someone?”

“I am,” he answers easily. “Very much so.”

“Who?”

Ducky is well aware of the conclusion to this disease. He know what happens if he ignores it or refuses the surgery or if you don’t love him, in return. These damned tulip petals will keep filling his lungs and the coughs will become gasps and there’s little he can do about it.

He figures he’s got very little left to lose.

“You, my dear. You bloomed these flowers into my lungs. And they are beautiful, but I’m afraid they will kill me. As will you.” Ducky ends with a cough, and he can feel another petal in the back of his throat. Threatening to choke him, if your gaze doesn’t do so, already.

When you gasp, it’s stunted by the petals in your own lungs. And Ducky braces himself for a sorry rejection. Telling him that there’s nothing you can do, and he will accept that.

Instead, your hand comes out. Covers his, and the tulip petals rest between the palms of your conjoined hands. “Ducky, I think you might be the reason why I’m sick, too,” you say softly.

Just like that, Ducky’s able to take a full breath of air. And it feels like he’s breathing for the first time.

Romance is a topic they don't mind chatting about with their friend, but the mere mention of it from anyone else is disquieting. They are puzzled by none of their admirers meeting their standards, oblivious to the fact that these criteria more or less demand a carbon copy of their friend.

Dewey Duck, Della Duck, Drake Mallard.

They had never viewed their friend in a romantic light, but strings of failed romances lead them to reconsider the nature of the friendship. No matter how charming the potential suitors, they find themselves dissatisfied and frustrated. Venting to their friend inspires a peculiar sense of guilt, and they can't help but wonder if they would have the same issues in a relationship with them.

Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, Steelbeak, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck.

Their friend is the only person who doesn't corrode their patience and infuriate them with their very presence. Romance is possible but won't happen naturally. The other person would have to make the first move.

This isn't true in all cases, of course. It depends on the dynamic, point in the timeline, and the circumstances surrounding the origin of the romantic attraction. If it was accidental (ex. Misconstrued "I love you", pretending to be a couple for a F.O.W.L. or S.H.U.S.H mission, coquettish jokes), they may dismiss it after the fact.

Or they may cling to it and pursue the imaginary relationship with ruthless determination. Either way, it would not be wise to play with their emotions and find out.
