Ruffled Wings
AO3
@dj-wifi-december
“She’s not here right now, I’m sorry,” Marlena said. “Alya rushed off to Marinette’s house an hour ago. I think she said something about her friend having a crisis?”
Nino nodded politely. “Thanks for letting me know. It’s no big deal, I was just planning on surprising her with this new playlist I’d made. I’ll just show it to her at school tomorrow.”
Assuming that she wasn’t busy whispering with Marinette about something. The two of them had been close ever since Alya’d moved to Paris, but lately Marinette and Alya had been less “thick as thieves” and more “attached at the hip”.
As he turned to walk away, Marlena caught his arm. “Wait.”
He stopped, looking Alya’s mom over more thoroughly than hed done a few seconds before. Her wings looked a little ruffled - nothing too bad, but combined with the worry in her voice… “What happened? Is something wrong with Alya?”
“I don’t know,” she said. “That’s the problem.”
He frowned. “You don’t know?”
Alya wore her wing covers when in public, like most people did. Few people wanted to show every random passerby how they were feeling at any given time, so they covered them up for privacy’s sake.
But it was common to remove wing covers when among friends and family, and Alya was no exception. She’d wear them to school, of course, but would usually take them off whenever meeting up with friends inside, or when just not feeling particularly worried about what any random stranger might think of her.
She had been wearing her wing covers more often than usual, though. Even when she and Nino were alone in her room. He’d thought it was strange at the time, but everything seemed strange after Monarch’s announcement that he’d stolen most of the Miraculous. His own wings had been a little droopy that night. Poor Wayzz. Hopefully the little dude was doing okay, even while being held captive by Monarch.
“She hasn’t taken off her wing covers around us in weeks,” she confessed. “Not even during mealtimes or at night. Not that I’m seeing her at night all that often. She sleeps over at Marinette’s place two to three times a week. I don’t have a problem with that, Marinette’s a sweet girl and her parents are some of the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, but… it just seems off.”
“I had noticed her walking to school with Marinette more often.” He’d been disappointed that Alya’d been wanting to walk with her more often than him, but after the debacle with thinking she was cheating on him with Chat Noir, he wasn’t inclined to push on that front. He didn’t want to accidentally push her away while trying to keep her close.
“Could you ask her what’s going on? I thought maybe she’d open up around you more than us. I was thinking of asking Marinette as well, but she hasn’t come over since Alya started acting cagey, and I’m not desperate enough yet to call her directly.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll get to the bottom of this! Detective Nino is on the case!” Though with less spying and more just asking what was going on. He’d learned his lesson.
Marlena’s wings drooped in relief. “Thanks.” She looked back towards the kitchen. “Want some curry for the road? I made too many portions since I’m used to Alya being here.”
Nino’s eyes lit up. “You’re an angel, dude!”
She chuckled a little, before getting a container for him to take the curry home.
----
He waited on the school steps the next day. Sure enough, Alya and Marinette walked to school together. Alya’d probably slept over there again.
Alya arched an eyebrow as he ran up to her, smiling. “What’s the occasion?”
“I made a cool new playlist for you, see!” he held out an earbud to her, before shaking his head. “Dammit, that’s not the reason I waited for you - okay it’s not the only reason I waited for you, anyway.”
“Got another plan for the Resistance?” she asked, sounding skeptical.
He rubbed the back of his neck. “Uh… not right now?”
She let out a relieved sigh. “So, what is it?”
“Can we talk later? Privately?”
Alya sucked in a breath, swallowing audibly. “What about?”
“Nothing bad,” he assured her. “Well… maybe something worrisome. Not in our relationship,” he added hurriedly, not wanting to freak her out more than she already was, “I just want to make sure you’re okay.”
Her eyebrows drew together. “Of course I’m okay. Why wouldn’t I be okay?”
“Alya, is something going on?” Marinette asked. Nino could almost hear her asking herself, Did I miss something?
“It’s fine, Nino’s just worrying about nothing,” Alya said. Her tone wasn’t entirely convincing.
“If there’s something wrong, you know you can tell me, right?” Marinette asked.
“I told you, I’m fine,” Alya said, a little snappier than normal. “I’ll just talk with Nino, we’ll clear this up, and everything will be fine.”
Marinette bit her lip, before heading inside.
“So, when do you want to talk?” Alya asked, turning to Nino.
“During lunch, maybe?” He suggested. “At your house? You missed some awesome food last night.”
She blinked. “How do you know that?”
“Aside from every meal your mom makes being awesome? I tried to drop by last night, but you weren’t there. Your mom gave me some of the curry she’d made.” He hesitated, before barreling onwards. “Actually… that’s part of why I wanted to ask. She’s concerned about you, with how often you’re going over to Marinette’s, and- and how often you’ve been hiding your wings. Which is your right!” he added quickly. “But you don’t usually do that at home, or when it’s just me and you.”
“I…” she bit her lip, looking away. She let out a breath. “Okay. We’ll do this. My place at lunchtime. But it’s not that big a deal, really, I promise!”
He nodded, taking her hand. “That’s fine. Then we’ll just get to hang out together, right? And even if it’s not that big a deal to you, I still want to know about it, to help you with it.”
She smiled at him, her eyes softening. “You’re the best, you know that!”
“Oh, I dunno, I think I could stand to be told that more often,” he grinned.
“Nope, I take it back, don’t want you to get a big head,” she teased.
“Hey!” There was no fire behind his response as the two of them ran up the steps, still holding hands.
----
A few hours later, the two of them cuddled close on Alya’s bed, door locked to prevent being surprised by Alya’s younger siblings. Nino had the feeling that if they were interrupted, he’d have a hard time getting Alya to open up again.
“I missed this,” he murmured, leaning against her, hand running up and down her side.
She let out a contented sigh. “So did I.”
They stayed like that for a moment, drinking in each other’s presence.
“You know, we still need to talk about your wings,” he murmured. “School won’t wait forever.”
Alya groaned, but sat up straight. He mirrored her, looking her in the eyes. He had a feeling this discussion would be better if they could actually see each other, to get a good sense of how she was feeling.
Slowly, Alya pulled off her wing covers.
The feathers of her small, gray wings stuck out at odd angles, many hanging lifelessly, dull and uncared for. The wings themselves appeared to be in good shape - at least, nothing appeared to be obviously wrong with the shape or musculature of them - but the state of the feathers was concerning, to say the least.
Nino had seen worse, especially in documentaries about people who’d been trapped in abusive, painful circumstances. Wings mirrored that person’s mental state - no amount of actual grooming could get them to look nice, only an improved mindset could do that. Many an abusive spouse had been caught due to the unnatural angles their wings rested at, the broken bones (or well, what passed for bones for a mental projection, at any rate), bruised and bleeding wings, the lack of feathers, were dead giveaways that someone needed help, now, whether the person themselves thought so or not.
Of course, those symptoms only manifested in the most extreme cases, when the person was so psychologically broken that their wings changed to match (Once they started recovering, the wings’ condition improved as well). He’d long suspected that Gabriel went beyond simply being a stern, distant parent and into straight-up abuse. Adrien never removed his wing covers, ever - not in front of anyone. He refused to talk about the condition of his wings either, saying only that his father had forbidden him from talking about them. No amount of persuasion got him to budge, no matter how much Adrien looked like he wanted to tell him.
But with all of the akuma attacks, it was inevitable that Adrien’s wings would get exposed sometimes. One girl’d gotten akumatized because Chloe had mocked her for forgetting her wing covers. In retaliation, she became Revealer, using her power to vaporize any wing covering or other concealments people used on their wings. Adrien didn’t get out of the way in time.
At first, Nino hadn’t understood why Gabriel was so stringent about Adrien keeping his wings under covers. Sure, they were a glossy, sleek-looking black, which contradicted the angelic white wings that photo editors always gave him in his photo ops and that were added in via CG in any commercials he was in, but black wings weren’t that stigmatized, and he doubted they stayed that color all the time anyway - most people’s wings had a few common forms that they usually defaulted to, but rarely did they stay a single color at all times.
Nino’s wings, for instance, were usually a warm, light brown color, and larger than most other people’s. Probably because of how much his little brother enjoyed snuggling under his wings when he was cold or upset, though he’d been starting to pull away from doing so lately, much to Nino’s disappointment. But if he needed to grab attention, like say, if he was auditioning or making a pitch for something, his wings would often change colors, turning blue, green, orange, any sort of color that tropical birds could have - something flashy that’d cause people to sit up and take notice.
Then Nino had looked closer at Adrien’s wings, and noticed something that made him wish he’d actually managed to find Gabriel as Bubbler and send him into the sky.
Adrien’s feathers were glossy and well-cared for… the feathers that he actually had, at any rate.
His flight feathers were missing.
Not just clipped or cut, but entirely absent.
Wings may not allow humans to fly - they were far too small for that - but they still had that association in most people’s mind, an association with freedom.
While Adrien’s wings were well cared-for and remarkably healthy, he had no freedom.
He’d tried to ask Adrien about them afterwards, but his face had just screwed up, with him saying that he wasn’t allowed to talk about his wings. At one point he looked like he was in physical pain as Nino pressed him about what having stripped wings might mean for him, his eyes almost pleading as he said he couldn’t talk about them, even though his wide eyes and slightly open, gaping mouth had indicated to Nino that Adrien hadn’t thought about what the state of his wings might mean, and the disturbing implications they held.
As much as Nino would love to get Adrien away from that poor excuse for a father, Adrien simply missing his flight feathers wouldn’t be enough to get the child protection system involved - not against someone as rich and powerful as Gabriel, especially when Adrien was so reluctant to talk about his wings.
Hopefully in the future he’d find some way to free Adrien, to restore his wings to what they should be. For now, he just tried to be the guy’s friend, and hoped that would be enough.
“Nino?” Alya queried, frowning.
He snapped back to the present. “Oh, right!”
He might not be able to help Adrien, but Alya was a different story.
Peering at her wings, he tried to make sense of what their state might mean.
With the way several of the feathers stuck out, it looked like her wings were uncared for, and the dullness probably hinted at some sort of depression or otherwise feeling down for an extended period of time, but there didn’t appear to be any structural damage that would be harmful in the long or medium term - unlike with Adrien’s wings, which would have to regrow flight feathers over a long period of time in actual birds, requiring a moult of some sort, Alya’s wings mostly looked like they needed a good preening and other sorts of grooming, but like they’d be fine once those were done.
But that required Alya to take care of herself, and likely, for other people to help take care of her.
He reached out a hand to touch her wing, but hesitated. “May I?”
She nodded, biting her lower lip.
Gently he stroked the wings, causing Alya to shiver slightly.
He couldn’t actually smooth out the wings - only a change in her mental state could do that - but maybe his touch could soothe her, however slightly.
“I- I realized my wings looked a little… off, the morning after Monarch made his announcement,” she told him quietly. “I’d slept over at Marinette’s that day, so I just… put my wing covers back on before she noticed. She’s had a hard time recently, and I didn’t want her to worry over me.”
“Sometimes, we want to worry over you,” he told her softly, cupping her chin in his hands. “A lot of people care about you - me, Marinette, your mom, the entire class, really - and it worries us more when you’re keeping your hurt tucked away.”
“I don’t think Chloe would worry,” Alya said, her mouth quirking upwards slightly.
He laughed. “Okay, maybe not Chloe. She’d just say you were being ‘ridiculous, utterly ridiculous!’”
She joined in, chuckling. “One of the few times I agree with Chloe.”
That caused him to sober up. “It’s not ridiculous, Alya, whatever it is. If it’s hurting you, it’s valid.”
His mind raced back, thinking of what would’ve happened around the time Monarch made his announcement that would’ve caused Alya’s wings to get into the state they were, and stay that way.
Monarch’s announcement itself had ruffled a lot of people’s feathers, but he doubted it would’ve led to the dull wings and broken, loose feathers in her wings, not all these weeks later. So it was probably something else, something more personal, that’d wormed its way into Alya’s head and wouldn’t leave, like an earworm for a particularly grating piece of music that nevertheless gets itself stuck in your head.
His eyes drifted down to the pouch Alya still wore - the one that used to hold a small, mischievous fox kwami. His eyes widened. “Is this about Trixx?”
She winced, looking away. “I- I know Ladybug blames herself for the Miraculous being stolen. But as far as Trixx goes, I’m more to blame than she could ever be. I gave the Fox Miraculous back to her, even over her insistence I keep it. If I’d just listened to her, if I’d kept the necklace, Trixx would be safe and Ladybug and Chat Noir wouldn’t have to fight alone. When I think of him, held captive by that- that MONSTER-” she punched her bed lightly, her voice cracking. “-I can’t help but to imagine what it would feel like, constrained and controlled by one of the most evil, despicable men alive, knowing that my power would be used for evil against my will, not knowing when I’d get free.” She fished around in her back, taking out a grape. It must’ve been pretty fresh, it still looked good to eat. “I’ve been restocking my bag regularly, just in case Monarch somehow slips up and Trixx manages to escape. He is a sneaky fox, after all,” she said, hiccupping slightly as tears formed in the corners of her eyes.
A lump formed in Nino’s throat, thinking of Wayzz. He hadn’t been able to spend nearly as much time with the little turtle as Alya had with Trixx, but he’d still made a secret handshake with him. He’d worried about Wayzz after seeing the shield around Monarch’s projection during his announcement, but had quickly pivoted to wondering what this meant for Ladybug and Chat Noir instead.
But Alya’s and Trixx’s relationship was different. They’d know each other for a lot longer, had been together even outside of emergencies, had really gotten to be close friends.
No wonder Alya wasn’t okay.
“Monarch has to be feeding Trixx at least,” he assured her. “He has to, in order to use his power. Maybe not as much as he should, and I doubt it would be his favorite food, but he’s probably not in physical danger.” He hoped not. If the innocent little kwamis were badly hurt-
Well. He’d knocked Hawk Moth upside the head with his shield before, on Heroes Day. He wouldn’t say no to doing it again. Possibly repeatedly.
“I- I keep telling myself that,” Alya said, tugging her blanket towards her and hugging it tight. “All the kwamis have to be - not okay, but recoverable. That Ladybug and Chat Noir just need to get them back. That they WILL get them back. That my mistake might have caused Trixx to be kidnapped, but that it’s fixable. Eventually.”
Oh yeah, she had said something about her giving the Fox Miraculous to Ladybug, hadn’t she? “Why’d you give the Miraculous back to Ladybug?” he asked gently.
“After Sentibubbler, I had to stay hidden when I transformed because Shadow Moth would target my family otherwise, remember?” she said. “I was exposed during the fight against Strike Back. If I kept the Miraculous, I thought he’d attack them again,” She barked out a laugh, a few tears slipping out of her eyes and down her cheeks. “Instead, he attacked Trixx.”
Nino reached out, his heart aching, flexing his wings as they grew bigger and bigger, becoming softer, fluffier - more like ostrich wings than anything. He wrapped them around his girlfriend, surrounding her with a blanket of feathers. “You did the right thing,” he told her, taking both her hands in his, as he looked her in the eyes. “You gave up something you loved, something amazing, because, as far you knew, it was the safest thing for everyone. Even if you had kept Trixx, I don’t think things would’ve been okay - there’s no reason to think Monarch wouldn’t have targeted you or the people around you again.” He hesitated. “Besides… it’s kind of my fault as well. I was the one who exposed you.”
He hadn’t really thought through his actions at the time, he’d just acted. And Alya and Trixx had paid the price.
“Nino, if you hadn’t done that, I would’ve been a pancake,” Alya told him flatly. “You did the right thing.”
“Same for you,” he countered. “You did the best you could with the information you had. If you’re to blame, then so am I.”
She smiled slightly. He glanced at her wings. Was it his imagination, or were the feathers a little shinier? “We really are quite the pair, aren’t we?” Alya said.
He laughed. “The only couple that would be more iconic would be Adrien and Marinette.”
She groaned. “Oh, don’t even get me started on those two. I love Marinette to death, but her love life is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever borne witness to.”
“At least Adrien’s finally realized his feelings for Marinette?” Nino said. “Took him long enough. He’s been shooting her goo-goo eyes for months now.”
“Yeah, and now Marinette’s running away from her feelings for him, now that they’re almost certainly returned,” Alya muttered.
He frowned. “Does that have something to do with why you’ve been sleeping over there so often?” He understood why she’d keep her wings concealed, but the sleepovers seemed odd, if she was purposely not seeking out emotional support.
“Well…” she said awkwardly. “Partly.” She shot Nino an apologetic look. “Sorry, I really can’t tell you much more than that. Marinette’s going through a tough time and no one else can be there for her the way I can - not even her parents. It’s Marinette’s secret, and I really, REALLY can’t tell you anything more than that. But I have to make sure she’s okay. As okay as she can be, at any rate. And if that means sleeping over there half the time? …well, don’t tell mom I said this, but Dupain-Cheng breakfasts are to die for.”
He laughed. “She may be a professional cook, but I don’t think even your mom would take offense to that. They’re the best bakery in the city.”
Sobering up, he leaned forwards, touching his forehead to hers. “Just make sure to take care of yourself too, okay? You’re important, and you can’t pour from an empty cup. You have to care for yourself before you’ll be able to care for others.”
“I’m guessing you’re gonna enforce that?” she asked, her eyes crinkling as she smiled.
He tipped back his hat. “Just call me Nurse Nino!” he joked.
“Well, Nurse Nino,” she said mischievously, “we’ve still got a few minutes left. How about a game of Super Penguino?”
“Oh you’re on!”
As Alya reached for her tablet, Nino inspected her wings once again. They still looked a little duller than usual, and a few feathers were still out of alignment, but they looked a lot better than they had only minutes before.
He’d continue checking up on her, trying to be there for her, until they were back to their full glory.

2. Book
It’s Google translation but I try to make editing. Ukrainian version on Facebook
From @dj-wifi-december
Tumblr media
Nino was pretty good at finding his way around Alya's room in the dark, but right now he thought it was too dark. Only the flashlight on the old telephone, which was actually kept in the extended family just for this purpose, lit up.
And Alya herself did not seem to notice the darkness around her – not only in the room, but also outside the window all over Paris, where she was dispelled only by the flashes of the Purple Tigress Strikes and Pegasus Voyage, which helped Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat the next villain. Because of the night attack, not only the electricity but also the communication went out, otherwise Alya would not be here at all and would have been broadcasting the battle on Ladyblog a long time ago.
But if Nino expected to spend some time alone with his girlfriend, his hopes were not destined to come true. This time there was a book between them. Okay, Book. The same Grimoire of talismans and heroes that Ladybug shared a digital copy of for her faithful assistant.
And now neither night terrors, nor the fall of a meteorite, nor the attack of aliens could distract Alya. Past Akumas have already tried all these options.
Suddenly Alya raised her head, distracting herself from the dim screen of the tablet.
– Can you build a Dome without a shield? Well, when you are Carapace.
It was possible to get confused after such questions, but not to the guy who has been dating Alya Cesaire for so long. Her thoughts jumped from one thing to another so quickly that she sometimes seemed like a walking supercomputer. But not like Markov, such a generator of desperate ideas.
– What are you reading there? – Nino sighed heavily and came closer.
Ali's main goal was to defeat Hawk Moth, and it is possible that she really came up with a plan that would not do without Carapace. But why so many conditions?
– I am trying to determine the advantages and disadvantages of Miraculous, – said the girl. – Unfortunately, yours can't stand the competition yet.
– What are the disadvantages of the Turtle Miraculous? – Nino was expectedly interested and sat down on the bed next to him.
His movement made the flashlight flicker, so Alya rushed to correct the complex composition that became her workplace. But she did not reproach her boyfriend with a single word – after all, he was more important even than the main investigation of her entire life.
– You can use the force only around yourself, there are no attacking skills, you need to carry a heavy shield...
It seems that Alya could continue this list for a very long time.
– Absolutely useless Miraculous, – Nino admitted quietly.
– Everyone has weaknesses and strengths, – Alya reassured him. – The Carapace, for example, is best protected against a physical attack.
It was this advantage that he used, covering Rena Rouge in battles. It is a pity that it did not save in all situations.
– And your Miraculous? Does he have flaws too?
Alya squinted under her glasses and rustled through the printed pages. They were covered with vague drawings depicting heroes of the past in strange costumes and translations of notes to them. This was not enough for the girl, so she started scrolling through the text on the tablet again.
– My illusions – that is, the illusions of Rena Rouge – do not have their own intelligence. Although this will not allow them to betray me or come under enemy influence. Physical contact destroys the illusion. And I have to monitor what Mirage shows all the time. Besides, my flute is not a very good weapon.
Alya listed, remaining completely calm. But it hurt Nino to hear that, because her talisman was much more useful than his.
And in Fox Miraculous, the transformation is more beautiful, but he will talk about that some other time.
– But when we unite, we cannot be overcome, right? – Nino added to encourage his girlfriend.
Raising her head, Alya smiled at him:
– And this is our most important secret!

These opportunities allowed him to daydream on a greater scale and be influenced and inspired in a fresh way. In an effort to promote fearlessness and the idea that no one should be boxed in, Saladeen’s art continues to meld the art world with fashion, music and now tech.
King Saladeen’s art focuses on intricate, futuristic and cutting edge design which makes a perfect pairing with a tech forward company like Intel. DJ Wifi December Day 24 - Date Night
As most of Paris has learned, date nights can be hard to plan in our fast paced modern life. Especially once maniacal supervillians get involved.
@purrincess-chat
Enjoy!

A table was tossed over the spot they had chosen to hide behind, crashing onto the floor not far from them. Alya eyes narrowed. She was doing her best to keep Nino safe despite still being in civilian form, but Ladybug and Chat Noir still hadn’t shown up yet. If she didn’t sneak away and find a spot to transform soon, the akuma might decide to get serious in her attempts to hurt people.
She groaned. If only she’d been a little quicker getting to the waitress who had run off crying. Or maybe if she’d decided not to be in the same room as Chloe, they might have been safe enough that Nino would consent to splitting up and “heading home.” But no. Nino, bless his heart, had gotten it in his head that he was the one protecting her and he was absolutely stuck to her despite her best attempts so far to escape him.
The situation was going to get worse before it could get any better and the great irony of it was a superheroine had been on the site from the start to handle it. Watching the akuma villain carefully, she waited until she was distracted before making her move. As the villain turned around to grab another object to throw, she grabbed Nino’s hand to make a dash for the exit. An angry screech warned her that they’d been spotted, but before she could do anything, Nino had pulled them to the ground. In the space they’d just been occupying, a pair of chairs sailed past and shattered against the wall.
Alya was on her feet first, and pulled Nino up and forward as she cleared the remaining distance out of the room. She didn’t bother slowing down or looking back until they were a story down and had a chance to duck inside a side room. Back to the door and Nino by her side, she strained to hear what was happening on the other side of the door. Before long, the villain’s voice faded and she let out the breath she had been holding.
They crept out of the room, finding the halls empty now. “Okay, babe. You get out of here, I need to grab something before I can leave.”
Nino shook his head. “I’m not about to let you go after that akuma, babe.” Alya’s heart skipped a beat. Had he finally pieced it together? “The Ladyblog can wait - you don’t need to be within arm’s reach of the akuma to get good footage.”
She let out a sigh of relief. He hadn’t figured out she was Rena Rouge - which was both reassuring and vaguely annoying. “It’s not that! I left my purse back there!”
“We can come back for it after Ladybug and Chat Noir beat her.”
“And Rena Rouge,” she added, slightly annoyed.
“Y-yeah. And Rena Rouge.”
Alya lifted an eyebrow and smirked. Did he just stutter? “My my, Nino. Does Rena get you all bothered?”
His mouth said, “No!” But his blush betrayed him. At her disbelieving look he pinched his nose and said, “Look. Every time I’ve ever met her face to face she… flirts with me.” She laughed at him, which seemed to be of great relief to him. “I honestly have no idea why or even how she can always pick me out of the crowd. But she finds me and she knows just the right buttons to push to make me a mess.” He let out a defeated sigh. “It’s embarrassing, babe.”
Patting him on the back she cooed, “Poor baby, getting hit on by superheroes.”
“Can we just… forget about it and get out of here?”
“Sure, sure.” A few minutes passed as they ever so slowly made their way out of the building. “So what do you think about Rena Rouge?”
“Babe, is this really the time?”
“Definitely! After all, we might end up seeing her today if we hang around here long enough.” She laughed at his groan.
“Honestly, I’m just glad you’re taking this well. Not many girls would be happy at anyone flirting with their boyfriends, especially not a superhero.”
Hard to be jealous of myself, babe. Out loud, she said, “I have more faith in my boyfriend than most. Now, what’s she like?”
“Right, you’ve never managed to get an interview with her, have you? I think you two would get along awesomely - she’s smart and funny and pretty.” He winked at her. “Not that she holds a candle to you though, babe. She’s like Chat in that she seems to really enjoy being a hero. She’s also flirty like he is, come to think of it.”
“Oh come on! Chat doesn’t flirt with just anyone you know - he only has eyes for his lady.”
“I guess that makes Rena Rouge the biggest flirt of the group then, huh?” Nino said absently as he poked his head around the corner, missing Alya’s eye twitch. The front door was unguarded and just like that they were outside, breathing in the cool fall air.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, alright?” Alya said over her shoulder as she walked away.
“Wait, where are you going?”
“I’ve got stuff that I need to get to. Oh, I almost forgot.” She rushed back and gave him a brief kiss on the lips. Long enough that he could understand what was happening, but short enough that he’d want more. “I had fun tonight, akuma attacks excluded. Night!”
She left him a sputtering mess as she rounded the corner, searching for a place to hide. Trixx emerged from where ever he was hiding, a smug grin on his face.
“Something you want to say, Trixx?”
“No no, definitely not. Just admiring your handiwork is all.”
She rolled her eyes. No doubt she’d get teased later at prodding Nino for info about herself, but for now… “Trixx, let’s pounce!”

2020/ Chain of Fools
2020 was the year I adopted a boiler suit and gas mask as a daily uniform. The world had gone into a global lockdown to combat the COVID19 virus which meant we were only allowed to leave our house for essential reasons such as grocery shopping and exercise. When outside, we were government mandated to wear face masks to prevent the spread of the disease. They made me feel like a muzzled dog and I resented no longer being able to smile with strangers on the street. Feeling like a prisoner in his own home and under extreme stress from job insecurity, my boyfriend Jake’s amphetamine addiction began to spiral out of control.
As a result of Jake’s addiction, we had accidentally befriended a posse of drug dealers and prostitutes- bonded by our love of having a good time and a general disregard for consequence. We met Dani through a call girl friend of mine who had realised the difficulty of making a living through writing online fashion content. Dani had big brown eyes, fat, botoxed lips and dressed only in high end labels like Gucci and Balmain. Born into a wealthy family, she had acquired a taste for expensive things but lacked the work ethic to maintain this taste without selling her body for sex. Dani began to visit more throughout the lockdown to deliver Jake drugs, hidden in a bag of a groceries. One night, she played Carole King on our old vinyl player, while Jake rolled us a joint to share. I flirted with them both, knowing that it would lead to a threesome. We smoked Jake’s joint, snorted lines of cocaine off each other and then took turns going down on each other.
A week later, Dani introduced us to a crew of “script kiddies”- long haired, internet hackers with a love of mumble rap, cryptocurrency and ketamine. I made cocktails for everyone and established that one of these kids shared a mutual friend with Jake. They seemed fascinated by the genuine sexual chemistry between myself, Jake and Dani and expressed gratitude for our generous hospitality. Eventually I came to the conclusion that by associating us with this crowd, Dani had managed to successfully pray on the vulnerable- trusting junkies like us who were lax with internet security and keen for a good time. In retrospect, I wish I had known that Dani was a hustler at heart- making money in any way she could without considering the impact of her choices. At the time however, I felt like we were fully living life in the moment- something I was certain would bring me happiness, meaning and didn’t question her motives for a moment.
Ella, Dani’s best friend, had a boyish pixie cut, high cheekbones and was tall and slim. She had gradually joined in on our shenanigans, along with Mark, a dealer with a steady supply of the best gear available north of the river. We all hung out together in our plant-filled, converted warehouse listening to electronic music and sharing stories about our favourite mind-altering substances. My stories were consistently focused on MDMA. As a notoriously private person, I’d discovered MDMA helped me open up and allowed me to dance, free of fear of judgement. It had also helped Jake open up about the sexual abuse he experienced as child, a fact I doubted would have ever come up without the influence of a truth serum and something which I was certain had driven him to substance abuse in the first place.
While we laughed, chatted and danced with Dani and Mark, Ella, who claimed to be a part time poet and part-time model, entered a viral script virus onto our wireless network by requesting our wifi password. Something we provided willingly, without second thought. This meant remote access to every digital device we owned and access to all stored personal information including scanned copies of our passports and birth certificates.
The issue with Mark, despite his criminal lifestyle, was that he was excellent company. Intelligent, engaging and a DJ in his spare time- we thrived off his love of hip hop and old-school funk. Similarly, he thrived off our property location in the Inner North- close to his regular customers and discrete enough from the prying eyes of authority. We welcomed him into our home with open arms, deprived of social contact through social distancing practices enforced by the pandemic. We held COVID19 illegal gatherings where we got high off Mark’s supply, enjoyed each other’s company while Ella hacked our electronic identities. When you’re lonely, it doesn’t really matter if others are using you and you’re using them. As long as everyone is filling a clearly defined role, the maladaptive social ecosystem continues to function.
It’s unclear exactly how many international drug smuggling routes were established using our stolen online identities before Jake clued on that something wasn’t right. He told me that he had been locked out of his email account, that the speed of his phone had slowed and that he could hear clicking noises during his phone calls. He was certain that his was a breach of online security and started to question the motives of our new friends. I wrote him off as crazy, blaming his excessive use of amphetamines and the psychological effect of social isolation. I was determined to keep my online identity public, obsessed by the idea of becoming the next millennial therapist and too blinded by Dani’s beauty to believe that she would want to harm us in any way.
Eventually Jake’s distress became too extreme to ignore and he shook me violently one night, yelling at me to believe what I had assumed was a paranoid conspiracy theory. A sinking feeling in my gut became apparent when he started to coherently piece together his concerns about his online security issues. I realized that my sense of reality had been clouded by my lust for Dani and by a dark depression that had developed through my work as an essential worker during a pandemic. Based on Jake’s erratic behaviour, I knew we had to get out of the warehouse immediately, but I had no idea where to go and was fearful of drawing attention to any law-breaking activity when police presence was so prominent.
We agreed to seek refuge with our friends Trish and Rick, former 90s British ravers who had channeled their drug-fuelled benders into successful and respectable careers. I called them panicked that night, shaking and rambling about what had happened. Without hesitancy, Trish told us to come over right away. Rick’s brother back in the UK had recently killed himself and they were struggling too. Trish and Rick lived in an affluent area in the inner East which meant we needed to blend in quickly through a disguise of expensive athleisure and an almost painful sense of normality. It appeared that our efforts at disguise were successful and it seemed to result in freedom from any unusual online activity on our devices. We bought new phones, changed our phone numbers, email addresses and disconnected from the outside world for an entire week. We spoke about going to the police, however we both agreed that this would place us at too much risk to the criminal world to be a viable option.
When your online identity is stolen, you quickly start to daydream what it would be like to steal someone else’s identity. For example, what exactly would you do with those proceeds of crime? Which tropical island would you escape to, what designer clothes would you wear, which car would you drive? I quickly became entranced and jealous at the thought of this fantasy life, but then spent time reflecting on my own morality and these feelings subsided. Instead, an intense anger developed at the thought of others taking advantage of Jake and his mental illness. High on a sense of ethical superiority and new found fury, I decided to employ my favourite psychological defense mechanism, repression, to cope with my latest traumas. May you rest in peace, memory, I said to myself before engaging in my daily mediation ritual.
While repressing my consciousness, I also began to focus on the importance of social support. I knew this shit was important but didn’t fully understand until Trish brushed my hair one night, my arms too frail from fear and stress to function. Trish and Rick played familiar Britpop, drank tea and encouraged us to embrace the therapeutic benefits of music through use of the guitar and keyboard that we had brought to their house. We took turns cooking for each other, played board games and counselled each other through each personal problems, one at a time.
Jake and I stayed with Trish and Rick for two weeks until we could establish an exit plan from the city. We migrated to rural Victoria like many other Melbournians, traumatized by the lockdown. The pace in the country was slow yet calming and people genuinely seemed to care about your welfare when they inquired “How you going, mate?” After such an extended period of social isolation, many of us forgot how to interact with others. We valued and craved human connection more than ever, and yet we seemed scared of what we might connect with. We continued to develop our own deformed version of sign language to communicate through the face masks and focused on re-developing social skills that had been lost through extended disconnection.
Jake and I continued to battle through the challenges of online identity theft and the consequences of his addiction issues. Jake’s substance use had subsided substantially without the influence of Mark and Dani and we eventually adjusted to living normal, routine driven lifestyles. He had cycled through periods of problematic use before, however I still felt somewhat shell shocked by the intensity of his most recent relapse. However, one day late in December I found myself wandering through the tranquility of the Otways, fully freed from the constraints of the lockdown which had finally lifted and contemplating my progress in life since leaving this place as a teenager. The rainforest sounds were vivid and the smells of the ocean salty in my nostrils. I wasn’t where I had planned to end the year 2020, but I was alive and I had Jake. And for that, I felt eternally grateful.

djwifi ofc for the ship ask thing uwu
Oh yes. Asides from JuleRose and Love Square, these two are my favorite ship.
When I started shipping it: Ever since their bits in Lady WiFi. They were adorable that episode.
My thoughts: AAAHHHH THESE TWO ARE SO FRICKING SWEET. I love them. I’m all for the cutely nerdy couples that have playful banter, and that is Alya and Nino down to the T. Not to mention, it would be incredibly cute to watch his brother get along with her little sisters.
What makes me happy about them: The artwork, DJWifi December (I’m participating this year hehe), and most of all, THE HEADCANONS. My favorite is the one with instead of her making him watch her shows with her, he does it instead. Nino is a big fantasy fan in most of the ones I’ve seen.
What makes me sad about them: One answer: When her sisters ran in and they didn’t kiss in Stormy Weather 2.0. They could’ve been the first canon couple to kiss on the lips aside from Myvan.
Things done in ff that annoys me: People portraying Alya as too bossy/controlling. If anything, there’s a good and a bad way to be bossy, and I happen to think she’s the okay type. Nothing wrong with her or her behavior.
Things I look for in ff: The nerdiness, playful banter and chemistry that makes DJWifi so fluffy and enjoyable. I love that take on them so much it’s insane.
Kinks: I have none lol.
Who I’d be comfortable with them ending up with if not each other: It’s obvious DJWifi is endgame now, but even if they’d break up at one point, I just wouldn’t ship them with anybody hahah. I just can’t see either of them with anyone else but each other.
My happily-ever-after for them: Alya becomes a journalist/former news reporter that owns her own magazine, Nino becomes a DJ and works with his brother Chris, Luka and Ivan on music, and they have four children together named Kara, Kailie (French pronunciation), Miles, and Nina. Of course, that’s what I made happen in my next-gen, so…. I’m just biased.
Thanks for the ask!

Dj Wifi December Day 6- Surprise
Read on Ao3
@djwifidecember
Nino silently entered the small apartment, sneaking up behind Alya, who was vividly typing on her computer. “Hey babe, how was work?” she asked, her eyes not leaving the faintly glowing screen of her laptop.
Nino sighed as he sat on the couch next to her. “Can you please just let me sneak up on you once?” She laughed, turning to face him, “I told you a long time ago Lahiffe, you can’t surprise me.”
Nino rolled his eyes, taking off his coat and hat. They had been dating for almost six years, and he still had yet to do anything that surprised her. “What are you writing?” he asked.
Alya excitedly turned her computer screen to face him, “It’s a new article for the Ladyblog, Ladybug and Chat just got engaged!”
“Wait, you mean Adrien finally asked Marinette to marry him?” Nino said, he was almost as excited as Alya. He knew that Adrien had the ring for almost two years now, but was too nervous to actually ask. Honestly though, everyone could see that they were perfect for each other.
Alya turned back to her computer, which now flashed a low battery alert. “Stupid computer, I just charged it!” She said, clearly annoyed as she slammed it shut. Nino laughed a little, she most likely had been using it for hours, but lost track of time. More than once since they moved in together, he had seen her stay up all night just to finish an article.
She stood up, and went into their bedroom to grab her charger, “Hey Alya, can you grab my headphones?” Nino asked.
Alya pulled open the drawer where Nino usually left his headphones. They were similar to the ones he had back in high school, though the originals had been broken by her little sisters a while back.
When she reached for the headphones, she noticed a small black velvet box placed right next to them. Alya felt her breath catch in her throat as she carefully picked it up. She turned towards the door, to see Nino standing there with a small smile.
He walked over to Alya, gently taking her hand in his. “Alya, you’re the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me. I love how amazing and brave you are, and how you always push me to do my best. You’re always there, no matter what, and I can’t imagine ever being without you.”
Nino took the box from Alya’s hand, and got down onto one knee, “Alya Cèsaire, will you marry me?” he asked.
Alya could feel her heart racing in her chest as Nino asked the question she had been waiting forever to hear. And for a moment, she was speechless. When she was little, she had always dreamed of a huge romantic proposal by the Eiffel Tower, or next to a lake at sunset, but this was somehow more perfect than she had ever imagined.
“I love you too dork, of course I’ll marry you!” Alya said, feeling tears at the back of her eyes. Nino slid the ring onto her finger. The ring wrapped twice around Alya’s finger, adorned with tiny diamonds around it. It wasn’t like anything she had ever seen before, but it was so her. Nino truly did know her better than anyone else.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, stretching up onto her tip toes to kiss him. Nino returned the kiss gently, smiling as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
He hadn’t been nervous to ask Alya to marry him, after all, they were a team, and he knew they’d stick together no matter what.
Once they broke apart, Nino rested his forehead against Alya’s, closing his eyes. “Looks like I finally surprised you.”

DJWIFI DECEMBER-2022  1. Movie
I apologize to the readers, but I can only translate my fanfic from Ukrainian through Google. You can also use the translation from Facebook, where I also publish the text. If suddenly there is a beta to help edit my fanfic, I will be very happy! Also, apologies if I post on the wrong dates, but I can only do it when I have power at my house.
Thanks, @dj-wifi-december
– I hope that everyone is ready this time?
Nino was actually asking, not asserting it, because five previous takes had already convinced him of the almost impossible difficulty of directing. Then the costume designer rushes into the frame to urgently fix something, and loses all the pins from the box along the way. Then the set designer together with the content manager begin to hang the poster that was supposed to symbolize Paris from a bird's eye view and now it symbolizes a mirror image of Paris, as if after a villainous attack. The sound engineer's assistant sneaks in the background, hoping that no one will notice her due to her small stature.
It was difficult to work in such conditions even for a very balanced person.
– But let's ask Luka to visit my house and bring another yo-yo? – suddenly called the performer of the main role.
Zoe with a cardboard cracker in her hands froze half in the frame, no longer knowing what to do. Helplessly looked at Nino, but now all his attention was devoted to Ladybug.
That is, Alya in a Ladybug costume. The costume was a creative compromise between a cosplay kit ordered online and Marinette's ideas on how to make it more personal to Alya's character. After all, this time only she could play everyone's beloved superhero – not because she loved her the most, but for the sake of Brazilian fans, who wrote a letter personally to Thomas Astruc with a request to make the next Ladybug their compatriot. And it turned out that among all the students of the college named after Francois Dupont, the closest to Brazil were the Antilles, where Alya moved from.
But shooting a movie with her turned out to be not as exciting as Nino thought.
– You won't have to jump on the roof with him. Just twirl beautifully in front of the camera.
Alya looked at him very expressively, squinting her eyes highlighted by a false mask. She looked very cute with her flowing braid and red spotted suit with black belt and boots, but her character seemed to take on a real heroic hardness.
– This yo-yo can't spin as it should.
– Don't twist it, just show it in your hand! – suggested Nino inventively, demonstrating a gesture that had just occurred to him.
There was a disappointed sigh from behind him, followed by a rustle as the camera crew got down to lunch. Everyone understood that it was extremely difficult to convince Alya – especially if it concerned Ladybug.
In the meantime, she looked over his shoulder to see if everyone was really distracted and moved smoothly closer to the bewildered director.
– Don't argue, Nino, – Alya spoke quietly. – I wore the Ladybug Miraculous and I know how it should work.
He probably had the look of a surprised anime character with half-screen eyes right now.
– But how? You were...
– T-s-s-s! – she deftly put her fingertips covered with a thin glove to his mouth. – You have no idea how much effort it took to make this costume not look like my transformation. So just trust me in all other matters as well.
At that moment, Nino had only one question – but from a different scenario.

DJ Wifi December Day 19 - Love Letters
Alya and Nino are finding out that living together doesn’t necessarily mean getting to see each other a lot, especially when the two of them have opposite schedules. Despite this, they find a way to show each other just how much they really care.

Alya woke up groaning, the light pouring in from her windows a solid reminder that she didn’t have any time left to be sleeping. She felt around on the other side of their bed just to confirm that Nino was still out. Letting out a wistful sigh, she rose to start the day.
It wasn’t like they didn’t expect troubles when they realized they would be working opposite shifts. But there wasn’t a whole lot of choice in the matter - most of the jobs available for Nino for DJing were at night and most of the jobs offered for her in journalism were during the day. Maybe, once they were more established they could afford to be pickier, but for now they just had to make do with the fleeting glimpses and stolen time at twilight.
As Alya dragged herself into the kitchen, she caught sight of one of the only things keeping them sane during their long absences from each other. It looked innocent enough - a neon green sticky note stuck on the cabinets. She perked up immediately as she snagged it, but refrained from reading it until she had poured herself a cup of coffee, made herself some toast, and taken a seat.
“Love you, babe! You’re the best around! Kick their asses!”
Smiling, she slipped the note into her purse, where it would join the dozen or more others crumpled near the bottom. Sometimes, when the workload got too much, she’d pull out a few and read them to give herself a boost. Knowing someone was in her corner made it all more bearable. She took a bright blue note off the stack and scribbled her own message for Nino while waiting for the coffee to kick in.
---------------------------------------
Nino shambled into the apartment he shared with Alya and eagerly, though tiredly, looked around for her. It was always his hope that if he got off work early, he’d catch her just as she was leaving. Sometimes it worked out that way. But today it didn’t. With a yawn he walked into the kitchen to grab a snack from the refrigerator, but paused when he saw a bright orange note tacked onto it at eye level. Hand slipping off the handle, he read the message while a smile slowly dawned on his face.
“How was another night of being the best DJ in Paris? Missing you always!”
As he settled down to write a poem for her to come back home to, he reflected on this chapter of their lives. It wasn’t easy for them, but there was no doubt in his mind that they’d make it through this.
