Am I the only one who finds the backstories of assholes or villains incredibly disappointing, boring, and unimaginative sometimes? If it's not "my mom/dad never loved me" then it's "my (insert loved one) died". Every time I see some dickhead try to justify or rationalize their shitty actions by bringing up their past, I roll my eyes and/or shake my head.
Now listen, and please don't take this the wrong way, while these backstories are tragic and these things should not have happened to them-or anyone for that matter-, I feel little sympathy for them. Not because of what they've been through, but more so on how they expect us to feel about them and their actions. Do I think they had a bad life? Yes. Am I going to just let them get away with their actions? No. Never.
i think it depends on the execution, and the specifics
what you described are tropes, not specific situations, so they do feel overused if there's nothing that spices up their backstory! for example, let's take scaramouche as a villain (and disregard his redemption arc for a sec). the way they portrayed his backstory was interesting: they took their sweet sweet time, especially if you missed the events (then you mostly had.... some people's voicelines and the HoOD + pale flame sets), and then proceeded to hit us with it from scaramouche's pov
his motives are "clichés" in a way: he wants the gnosis that was taken from him and left him empty, and most of all he wants to achieve greatness without his mother's approval (reverse nepotism 😔😔 /j), probably above said mother. it comes from abandonment, resentment and a shitload of mommy issues: perhaps overused
but in the context of genshin impact, it works. in the way they present it, it works. yeah some people think he's overreacting, and i don't doubt that his backstory seems bad for them (iirc he's like one of the most hated character in the game lmao), but it goes beyond the cliché of "i was abandoned and now i need to kill everyone but especially the cunt that gave me up" and he goes through sm abuse from the moment he's abandoned up to the one he deletes himself from the tree that it makes him more human, almost relatable in a way
in the other hand, however, i personally feel like the "pure evil" type of villain can also be interesting, so let's take dottore. fundamentally his only motive is scientific, but also resentment bc the way he functions makes him see morality as an accessory, so he experiments on people without a sliver of shame, kills god knows how many of them and feels no remorse whatsoever. cliché antagonist who's really just like "boo im evil, die bitch", but it also works cuz most of the time in genshin they try to justify evil deeds (signora going mad after losing her lover - cliché but it's signora so if you say smth negative abt her im blocking on sight #feminism -, childe who's just traumatized and actually a pretty chill guy), but dottore? nah. i feel like gold also fits in the same category, which makes me wonder whether dottore will one day find a way to use abyssal magic but that's yet another topic
ANYWAY i see what you mean but i don't necessarily agree - writing good villains without tapping too much into clichés is hard but doable. then again, you also need to take into account that not all antagonists are meant to be sympathized with, it's even kind of the opposite imo? but idk
im also heavily biased when it comes to the examples i cited, but it was mostly bc, well, genshin blog yada yada. then again im also kind of an apologist in a lot of cases, like for example once the house of the dragon s2 is out you best believe ill stand behind every decision miss girl rhaenyra the rightful heir will make ♡

I never called anyone a "cock whore", and my message wasn't in bad faith. What you said is "if your feminism is so centred on hating men but not centred on love for women, your feminism will fail". A feminist that doesn't care about women is not a feminist by definition. Similarly, a woman who degrades other women is not a feminist, she's a misogynist. So who this post ends up being directed towards is feminists who are "so focused on hating men". That might not be what you meant, but that's what the post implies if you break it down semantically. Overall I'm just a bit worried about gradualism happening on radblr, so feel free to disregard as it is not a personal attack on u.
i didnt say YOU called anyone that. i’m saying the women who do call other women that while claiming to be feminists and superior radfems and whatever else are not the revolutionary feminists they think they are.
also yes the women who are focused on hating men and not on helping women are also the problem like. idk how else i can say this. hating men is fine, hate men all u want, i’m clearly not someone who likes men myself lmao. but if u think u will create any successful action or movement by focusing on ur hatred then u will be sorely disappointed. that’s all! hatred can fuel passion and many other positive feelings, but if it’s all you’ve got then you’re not going anywhere with it

Hi I just had a few questions
1. isn’t it all ultimately rooted in disgust? 2. are there some situations where you genuinely can’t tell? 3. are women uniquely capable of ideological purity? 4. what would feminism be doing if not for trans people; what is the project in the way of which they stand? 5. what is risked if a person’s sex is not known? 6. what is the difference between the appropriated female form and the authentic female form; what qualities are always different between them, and how are these differences problematic? 7. does your mother know you shat your pants today?
radical feminism? no, it's rooted in female liberation. the movement has existed for far longer than transgenderism has
sure, especially online where people can edit photos to their heart's content. that doesn't make sex any less of a reality.
no? i never said we were? lmao
the transgender movement (especially in its modern form) poses a lot of risk to feminism. it has shut down female only spaces, it promotes the idea that biological sex does not exist or is not important, it promotes racist ideology, it promotes sexist ideology, it preys on young (predominantly) autistic and gay people, it serves mostly to feed into the pockets of doctors willing to prey on those people, it guilt trips gay men and lesbian women into sleeping with people they're not comfortable sleeping with, it shuts down any sort of critical discussion regarding it, it disregards science as a whole, it tells people that trans kids will kill themselves if they do not receive medical treatment that simply is not safe, it puts women in prison at risk of murder and sexual assault, it makes it difficult to talk about the prevalence of male crime, etc.
medically it is EXTREMELY important to know what someone's sex is. here are some sources: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7). in day to day social contexts, i don't think sex is too much of a factor most of the time. it is important when it comes to sexuality though. lesbians are not attracted to male bodies and gay men are not attracted to female bodies, no matter how many surgeries a person has gone through. obscuring one's sex in order to attempt to sleep with someone who would not sleep with you if they knew your natal sex is (attempted) rape. further, it is very important in a legal context to know what someone's sex is. male pattern violence is extremely different from female violence, and this does not change when a male transitions. i'm sure there are some other contexts i'm forgetting, but for most of the time, sex doesn't matter. when it does matter, it matters a lot.
are you. asking what the differences between biological males and females are? please explain this.
why are tras like. SO obsessed with shit and piss? like what is it with yall? is it some sort of collective fetish?? i'm genuinely kinda concerned about it like it's very strange

Noncon stories, Fantasy vs. Reality, and more. fucking. issues.
Recently, I’ve been hit with some drama as to why I’m a “bad person” by various, anonymous users in this fandom. I thought I’d try to address the claim, address my stance on fics that involve noncon, and what I think about the “Tumblr mentality” after everything I’ve seen of this place. I should also note that I’m going to use the specific words and phrases I’ve been forced to constantly repeat as explaining my stance has been very difficult for me, as I’m a person who’s apparently challenging to understand.
This is going to be a long post, with subjects that's obviously going to trigger people so here's a warning right now..
That being said, I’m going to dive into this with some shit I’ve definitely said before:
“Consensual Noncon” Kink
The Appeal of this Theme in Fanfiction:
I don't think calling fics that involve noncon "rape fics" and those who enjoy it "getting off to rape" is a very good way to put it. Many engaging and well done media pieces often involve some very dark themes. Again, Monster by Meg and Dia is a song that features the main character sexually abusing a girl he met. You COULD call this a "rape song", but acting as if the rape is the only thing that matters in this story would be pretty..naive. The story has to do with an emotionally, and physically neglected/abused boy, who grows up and becomes an attention/love starved monster who's SO starving for validation, that he believes forcing himself upon a girl he knew would "prove" to himself that he's capable of being touched and loved. Of course, the main character eventually realizes that rape is not love, that what he did was wrong, and later kills himself in his own bathtub with kerosene and a match.
However, the assault aspect of this song is still a meaningful and alluring part because it talks about how emotional and physical abuse can warp someone's perspective on reality, to the point where they think forcing someone to "stay" with them is how to create a healthy relationship. That's the same energy I have for noncon fics, especially in the slasher fandom. Many slasher fics that contain noncon often have to do with the slasher preying on the reader because of their own fucked up mind. It's intriguing because, let's be honest, pretty much none of the slashers are in a pretty good mental space lmao. Thus, noncon actually falls more in line with how slashers would go about what they believe is a "good relationship" more often than quite a bit of fans here seem to believe. Again, Michael got boners, Jason chained someone up, Fredddy smooches people against their will, Billy Lenz is a sex offender, Chromeskull makes snuff, yada yada yada, you know the drill. That being said, it's interesting to see noncon being expressed with these characters because it gives us a new perspective on how fucked up they'd likely be if the world of sex and relationships was introduced to these characters.
Now why would some people become sexually aroused by the events of the story? First of all, how does “Consensual Noncon” kink work?
u/Jumbledcode. (2015). ‘Can anyone comment on why people (someone like me) enjoy rape/non-con story lines?’. r/TwoXChromosomes.
“I'd suggest that there are several factors that make up the appeal of non-con fantasies.
Guilt/Self-image: For many people, their sexual/relationship desires don't necessarily match their image of themselves, or alternatively they feel guilt over others' perceptions of those desires. Rape fantasies allow them to mantain some illusion of denial over their desires while still indulging in the idea of them.
Responsibility/Laziness: The appeal of abdicating control isn't limited to avoiding guilt; it's very tempting to want a scenario where you have no responsibility for maintaining your lifestyle/happiness. Similarly to before, it's the appeal of being given what you secretly want without even having to choose it.
Transgressiveness: A rape scenario has overtones of danger and taboo-breaking. These can easily be exciting and can therefore be a turn-on.
Desire: Being wanted is often a huge turn-on, and the idea of someone desiring you enough to break laws and disregard everything to have you plays into this feeling.
To me, it seems that most people who fantasize about being the subject of rape do so due to some mix of these motivations I've mentioned. Of course, there are also those who have experiences which have taught them to associate non-consent with their sexuality, but that's a separate issue”.
What if the Fanfic Only Involves the Act though? Wouldn’t it Encourage Actual Rape?
Let’s differentiate fantasy and reality. Towards those with the noncon kink: it offers arousal because of the ideas listed above (the idea of the reader not having to make any moves and the character doing the “intimate work” FOR them, the excitement of such a taboo sexual encounter, and the feeling to be desired through an altered, brutish encounter). Rape is the use of sex to remove control over the victim’s mind and body. The readers DO have control over whether or not they get to “encounter” (the choice to even read) this fantasy, so right away consent is present in reality, and no actual rape is being done.
Now does this mean that the kinkers are getting off on the idea of rape? Not really.
The thing with self-inserts is that it allows you to be connected to the story. That way, even if the story has you bruised up and begging for mercy, a part of you-you (if you’re a kinker) wants to keep reading it as you find it exciting. That way, as you and story-you are connected, what you really want in such a fantasy is for it to keep going despite the brutish, possessive, however yet desired nature of the character you’re dreaming about dealing with. (repeat: the idea of the reader not having to make any moves and the character doing the “intimate work” FOR them, the excitement of such a taboo sexual encounter, and the feeling to be desired through an altered, brutish encounter). That being said, it’s still entirely possible for kinkers to have their personal space and wishes crossed, and ultimately assaulted. Us enjoying the fantasy of such a reverie sexual encounter does not spell out to real life because (in reality) we’re not horny all the time, we would still like our bodies to be respected when we find it necessary, and we still have feelings as we’re still human.
“Fantasy (including video games) leads to violence” fallacy.
It would be like assuming that shooters in games like GTA fantacise about murder, encourage it, and would do it in real life. Taking fabricated anger out on virtual bodies or NPCs is quite different from the weight of murder (the killing of another human being). One can play video games with lots of violence towards such fabricated characters, while discouraging violence towards human beings. The act of using a game controller to beat up Donkey Kong in Smash, to shoot Nazi zombies in a Black Ops game, or to kill a Geisha in Little Nightmares is incredibly, and immensely different from completely eradicating the life of a person on Earth, and to assume that everyone who plays violent video games would spill out to violence in reality would be to participate in a ridiculous fallacy. Yes, there are outliers who are feeble minded enough to let their fantasies influence their actions towards actual people, but I must repeat that there are also people who utilize these fantasies for their personal satisfaction, while understanding the weight of the real world around them (and choosing not to act so detrimentally). Therefore, it wouldn’t be fair as it would be unnecessary to blatantly say that all fantasies are horrible and should be entirely eradicated if there ARE many people who ARE aware enough to understand that some thoughts are better off staying in fiction.
Now is the time to address what’s been said:
Tumblr media
...Firstly, I think it’s very disgusting that random users, on Tumblr of all places, are trying to manipuate random victims of sexual assault into hating something or someone just because these users FEEL like “it’s the right thing to do”.. People, victims of sexual assault aren’t your fucking dogs. They’re not carriage horses, they’re not your work mules, they’re not your guns and swords...they’re just people who normally wanna be left the fuck alone like everyone else. Plus, there ARE people who have experienced sexual assault who take joy in reading such dark storylines. What would these users have to say to them? That they’re not “real” victims? That what they’ve experienced “never happened”? That they’re “just like” their own perpetrators for using the consensual nonconsent to miraculously help them overcome their trauma? Should they really abandon their coping mechanism just because there are other victims who cope in different ways?
..If you seriously believe that all people who have gone through a traumatic event are gonna cope in the exact same fucking way, you literally don’t even know enough about PTSD to even be making a bold statement about cope.
This is the part where I finally realized that people, and especially those on Tumblr, don’t actually care about rape victims as much as they may claim. Many users on here, on this platform and in this fandom, don’t truly give a flying monkey shit about rape victims as people, nor what they have to say about the subject. Rape victims..on this place..seem to be used mainly as a means of figurative weaponry for a group’s subjective morality.
I find the similarity close to radical feminism. Radical feminists often believe that women, from near and far, have to do everything in their power to “destroy” the patriarchy. This would mean disobeying the societal expectation of women, even if there are some women who take joyment in engaging in some societal standards for their personal liking. An example would be sex work. Radical feminists acknowledge the flaws in performing sex work, but believe that NO woman should EVER partake even if the woman wants to do it out of her own free will. In demonizing and ostracizing any woman who doesn’t fall into the radical feminist agenda, radical feminists actually contradict their purpose to “let women be free”. At this point, you realize that radical feminists often don’t actually give a fuck about what any woman wants for herself. Instead, radical feminists want to utilize any woman they can find just to flip off men as a group.
In Tumblr users trying to “stand up” for rape victims for their personal “holier-than-thou” ego, they fail to care enough about the very people they defend to understand the dynamics of some of their coping mechanisms, thus begin to bully some members of the group they claim to protect because of the very narcissism, misunderstanding, and controlling nature going on behind their own “activism”. So now that some users have found something to hate, in this case being noncon stories, they attempt to manipulate victims of rape into ostraciszing and demonizing fantasies and other victims of rape just because the “activists” themsleves don’t like it. Even trying to argue that rape victims have a “duty” to agree with everything these “activists” try to do for them.
Sounds awfully familiar to the attitude democrats have towards any minority when it’s time to vote. “I care about you...but you have to agree with everything I say and believe because I want what I think is best for you. If you disagree with me, you’re ungrateful and a traitor”.
Now...a little about myself.
I’m not sure of everyone else who’s into the noncon type of story, but I use it to get away from my past. In noncon stories, I want to read what happens in the chapters. I want to imagine them for morbid curiosity and arousal I feel at the time being. In reality, my attackers didn’t care when I wasn’t in the mood, and never gave me a choice. In noncon stories, I get to choose the character I want to encounter in the fantasy and NOT have it picked FOR me. In real life, I didn’t get to choose who did some things to me. In noncon stories, I get to stop reading them and do something else whenever I’m not feeling it anymore. In reality? My attackers kept going because, in the situation, it was no longer up to me. After noncon stories, my body doesn’t walk away with bruises, bite marks, and physical reminders every time I take my clothes off or try to masturbate. In real life...that shit can mark you, disease you, and then traumatize you. With the stories, I get to delete my search history, join another fandom, and act like nothing ever happened. For reality? Your own body is a reminder of what happened because it was real. In reality, I’m NEVER gonna fucking forget what happened. I’ll be lucky if my own mind and body doesn’t haunt me for at least one day..
So seeing that someone, and probably multiple people not only tried to use victims of sexual assault for their own “go get em” dogs, but to try and phrase me as someone who loves and encourages such an assault on human beings? After the things I felt? After the things I tasted? After pathetically searching for the support of relatives, just to get shut down with “you’re lying”?..
...All the times I've been held down..threatened..clothes getting snagged off..parts being opened and touched after I've fought to just get the fuck away from certain people...
According to this anon..."she likes rape".
...I guess I just fucking LOVED EVERYTHING THEN.
You know...all my life I’ve been misunderstood by many people. It’s honestly really disappointing that even now when I’m better at explaining myself than ever, I’m STILL being phrased as a “psychopath” by random people who haven’t even taken the time to even know me. Not even from a minute-long conversation through a damn computer screen. And you wanna know the funny thing? I’m probably being laughed at as this is being read. Some of these users, these internet stalkers, are probably giggling, smiling, and saying “Haha YES we GOT the bitch!! Cry you piece of shit SLUT!!”. So maybe explaining my past experiences to help everyone understand why some people may use noncon stories to their fantasy advantage is gonna land me messages going: “You haven’t been raped you lying bitch”, “Maybe you should get raped again”, “You definitely enjoyed it”, and the overused, yet strong “Kill yourself”.
So how am I gonna end this message? With me saying that many of you, who THINK you’re doing the right thing by justifying harassment and trying to manipulate others into joining your little crusade to bully people away from the fandom (over extremely mundane fucking things)...aren’t really good people. At best, in this case...you’re fucking stupid. You will never truly speak for any of the marginalized groups you claim to know like the back of your hand. Simply, you will never. be. a hero.
If by chance, by an astrological chance..that any random user wants to come up and apologize out of the blue for talking such shit and for saying such things..I don't even wanna hear it...just get the fuck out of my face..

another twilight character tag game
by @sweetrosaliebahbahbah – “pick 5-10 characters and write your take on the canon version of them vs. fanon version of them. fanon doesn’t have to be what is generally accepted in the fandom, it can be your own idea of what you think a character is like. then tag the same number of people as characters you pick, if you can.”
i was tagged by @leahclearwaterdefensesquad & @witchyangela
bella swan:
i loved a lot of bella’s strength, stubbornness, and resilience in canon. i think what i love most about bella is that she’s normal. the reason why is that unintentionally on smeyer’s part, to ME she becomes a great example of what feminism is about. it’s about fighting for women to have the same opportunities to make choices. i think that the societal hatred towards bella from everyone (women included) is a great teaching point. because why is it that a normal young woman is considered weak? i’ve said it before, but female characters have to be unnaturally talented and strong to the extreme in order to be respected and accepted in pop culture. because bella isn’t a brilliant witch like hermione or an inspiring archer like katniss, she receives criticism that she’s weak, antifeminist, and boring. and what that tells little girls is that when you are normal, when you are sensitive, when you are loving, when you are sacrificial, when you are not physically strong, when you make choices in favor of love, you are not enough. bella has always made her own choices, and ultimately that’s what we should be celebrating as feminists. we should celebrate the right to make choices no matter what the choices may be, and fight for the women who don’t have the luxury of making choices.
also.... i love how we have amplified some of her traits to make her into this chaotic, adrenaline junkie who can finally let loose and enjoy life since she had to mature so young.
i just read through what i wrote on this and realized i essentially agree with kate lol! i’m saying basically the same thing! when you copy somebody else’s homework but change it up a little bit lmao!
rosalie hale:
i know a lot of people wish that rosalie was allowed to showcase more tenderness, more sweetness, but i like rosalie just as she is. though i don’t love how edward can rudely disregard her in his annoyance towards her, i kind of like the sibling tension of having SO much in common but finding the other so hard to live with. i just wish that we could have seen a fiercer love between edward and rosalie. like nobody pisses me off like you do, but i love you so severely and will always have your back. smeyer stated throughout the books that edward loved rosalie, but we never saw it nor felt it. i honestly wish that rosalie and edward had been closer even with their differences. i think it’d have been a much more interesting dynamic if rosalie and edward were very close before bella, but because of rosalie’s frustration at edward’s willingness to jeopardize and alter bella’s human life, they’re distant throughout the series but it eventually becomes resolved once it’s clear that it’s bella’s choice to join the cullens. i still think it was possible for rosalie to have no desire to be around bella and still have that awkward conflict of one of the cullens not loving her/accepting her, but rather than having the reason why be superficial, make the reason be that rosalie feels the way she does out of concern for bella. it’d just be far more complex if rosalie cared so much for this human girl that she didn’t even know that she becomes unwilling to allow herself to love the girl as much as her siblings do because she couldn’t bear it if their involvement in bella’s life resulted negatively for bella. like imagine the shock of that convo bella and rosalie have in eclipse if it involved rosalie revealing that she doesn’t dislike bella, but rather she actually loves bella despite herself and that’s why she’s so against bella being in their lives. because she doesn’t want edward to do what carlisle unintentionally did to her. she doesn’t want edward to steal bella’s humanity and thinks it’s unfair and unforgivable for him to have even given her the unnatural option of immortality. and this isn’t so that everybody would love bella for bella’s sake, but the alternative reason provided by smeyer is just so cheap. jealousy is natural, but it’s kind of silly for that to be the source of rosalie’s aversion. and when it’s one of the only intimate moments we have of rosalie, it provides so little depth.
leah clearwater:
some of what i’m about to say applies to rosalie as well, but it especially applies to leah which is why i chose to make the point under her name.
i have massive respect for anyone who decides to be the bitch. and no, this doesn’t apply to people who use being “blunt and real” as an excuse to be mean. i mean the people that are honest knowing that they will be disliked for it. and this respect extends especially towards women. the thing is, leah was stripped of so many choices by smeyer. while i appreciate the idea of the complication of a female wolf amongst a pack that has been all male for generations, smeyer robbed leah of her “womanhood,” her femininity, the privacy of her thoughts, the privacy of her naked appearance, her relationship, etc. and there was no consolation. but in the choices leah makes, it reveals a lot about her strength. she knows she could make life for the boys in the pack easier by being “kinder,” quieter, less “wounded,” etc. but she allows herself to be bitter because that’s the validity of her feelings. why deny herself the truth for the sake of being liked & making life easier for everyone else? she’s honest about her thoughts and feelings even when they’re not unwillingly broadcasted no matter the cost. she chooses to leave sam’s pack when it’s clear that it could be a better path for her, no matter how it hurts sam. i’ve talked about this with a few people, but it is not easy to be authentic the way leah is. particularly when you’re the only woman in a group of boys too. because whether it’s conscious or subconscious in their minds, every action of yours will reflect on their feelings towards women and every stereotype of what a woman should be will be reflected onto their feelings towards you. there is added pressure on your choices and behavior. they will be interpreted differently in a way that men’s choices aren’t. but again, leah doesn’t water herself down. she doesn’t soften the impact of her words. she doesn’t cheapen her feelings for anyone else’s sake. she chooses to be real even though she knows it will make her less “likable.” smeyer wanted leah to be the bitch so bad. but leah is not the bitch, leah is THAT BITCH.
also on the topic of leah’s womanhood... it’s fucked up. it was unneccessary & illogical when the male wolves can have children. there’s so much that can be said, but i do want to say that it’s not racist to give your POC characters hardships and “flaws” (i hate to use this word concerning this particular point but this is what smeyer treated it as), but when you offer those characters NO CONSOLATION but you give consolation to your white characters (rosalie finds happiness in emmett, renesmee, and her family).... then IT’S RACIST. it was also awful because when you make a character potentially barren, feel like less of a woman because of the fact, and simply leave it at wow, this is horrible, it suggests that women who can’t bear children or don’t want to are less of a woman. my points are kind of going all over the place now, but when leah and jacob had the conversation of leah feeling like less of a woman because of the implications of becoming a wolf and losing her period, it was wrong that smeyer didn’t have jacob or somebody tell her that her femininity isn’t tied to her period, to pregnancy, to childbirth, to anything. she is no less female or feminine just because she’s a wolf. the fact leah wasn’t given ANY resolution is inexcusable.
so i guess what i wish for leah is more CHOICES and RESOLUTION and CONSOLATION. i don’t even have ideas for the specificity of the choices because i just wish leah herself could make decisions for what her life looks like and what she wants. i just really wish she could have found some comfort and solace that she’s still feminine regardless of the transformation she went through. and that whether or not it’s true she can’t have children, there are other options if she makes the decision that that’s something she wants. and if she doesn’t want that, that’s okay too. she’s still a woman. there’s no criteria.
i was going to make a point for sue too, but i just exerted so much energy mentally on my last point lmao... so i’m cheating & leaving it off at three characters! maybe one day i can make a post on my thoughts on sue and some of the other women of the saga.

just felt like rambling abt narcos fics so disregard if you want lmao
(also this is like in no way dragging/hating on people who write readers who are also agents/journalists/tough characters bc i read those and have written them!! and i love them a lot!!! like i think they’re so great bc it’s such a fun dynamic to explore with the characters and it’s super cool)
anyways that being said, i just like,, love the idea of the reader not necessarily being a part of the characters’ work and kind of existing outside of that. i think it’s sorta bc i grew up in that weird early 2010s feminism where in order to be strong, you had to mimic masculine qualities or have traits that could be easily respected by a patriarchal society, like being able to fight or shoot or blow something up. obviously i’m not saying that female characters can’t do that, but it felt like, to me, for a really long time a “strong woman” just meant “woman who can act like a man.”
and i’m really not the kind of person who’s physically intimidating or tough-as-nails but for so long i was told that that was the only way to be bad-ass or empowered or whatever new buzzword people liked to throw around
but now, being able to write a more relatable character (in this case, the reader in both my series) as someone who doesn’t fight, who has more traditionally feminine qualities and isn’t shamed for it - is actually valued and respected because of those qualities - has been like ridiculously fucking cathartic.
the reader in AIAGS is human. she’s tender-hearted and she likes kids and she cries and she hurts and she needs to be comforted!!! and that’s okay!! just!! fuck!!!! w o m e n ! ! ! all types!! all kinds!! no matter who they are!!!
idk if any of this is even making a lick of sense bc it’s like 4 in the morning but i just felt like talking about why i write my stories the way i do and hopefully it provides like .,, some insight idk dsfdjhsfjh
tl;dr : soft and nice women are cool and strong and should be respected

please go off on amalia that really was awful lmao
Are you all ready for this? It’s a lot, well actually it’s two things: the possibly symbolism behind Amalia’s actions and unpacking what it means that Amalia is a werewolf. and while i admit i don’t like n*brina, this really isn’t rooted in me not liking that ship? it’s more of me wildly pointing and saying “this is WEIRD.” i’m not even talking about the whole deep foreshadowing of Nick lying during this whole thing.
SYMBOLISM
Amalia as a character, felt like she was symbolizing one of two things. Either Amalia was the overbearing mother figure in Nick’s life that he needed to shed in order to grow up or be a man or come of age. OR Amalia was supposed to symbolize an ex or romantic rival that Sabrina needed to overcome in order to further cement her relationship with Nick, an action that would prove to the viewer that she cared enough about Nick to kill for him (possibly because she’s killed for Harvey so they had to even out the body count).
Despite Amalia being Nick’s familiar and “part of the family” for Nick, it genuinely felt like the latter option to me. Amalia felt like a metaphor for a romantic rival standing between Nick and Sabrina that Sabrina had to defeat. Like Amalia loved Nick SO MUCH that she felt the need to kill Sabrina? And it’s framed as a big powerful moment for Sabrina to kill Amalia, which is weird for a tv show that preaches feminism intersectionality. It me, it felt like girl-on-girl hate amplified, like they took the Dorcas/Sabrina rivalry and made it bigger.
WEREWOLVES
Metaphors aside, I also feel like no one really looks at the consequences of making Amalia a werewolf. There is so much to unpack!
For starters, it totally disregards the previously established canon in the show that familiars are goblins. (My general theory about this, which is very very biased, is that Amalia is a werewolf to give Nick that “not like other boys” vibe but I digress.)
Secondly, werewolves are humans that shapeshift into superpowered wolves. Yes, Amalia was stuck in her wolf form, but that was a person that I guess Nick or Nick’s family or someone enslaved to serve Nick? Zelda straight up says familiars are supposed to “serve their masters” and that there’s “nothing human about them”. Sabrina and Salem’s relationship is a partnership, but it was one of the first examples of Sabrina calling bullshit on witch tradition and trying to humanize it (a theme from part one which is mostly ignored in part two). But by definition, werewolves are shape shifting humans. All we, the viewer, see is a mad wolf but that dehumanizes Amalia, the human person that Sabrina killed. It would be the equivalent of Dr. C getting stuck in demon form, but also enslaved to someone, and getting killed.
It would have been less insanely weird if Amalia was just a wolf familiar and not the weird furry that showed up instead.
tldr; so looking at the whole Amalia plotline, did the writers put Sabrina in a place where she has to kill (in self defense) a dehumanized woman that poses a romantic (or possibly maternal?) threat to her relationship with her boyfriend? It’s like the feminist values caos claims it preaches went on holiday for Lupercallia!

I don't think the main reason people don't stan Ray is bc racism tbh, and to imply that is just ??? Like, I know it's A reason but not the main one. I remember back in like 2006 after being into the band for a while not even knowing his name because for the media he was not as "important". That's what happens with most bands, like if Mikey were not Gerard's brother it would have also happened with him. I sound white and offended lmao but I'm latinx (as in "I was born, raised and have always +
and have always lived in Ecuador") in and idk. From my experience living here Ray’s name was NEVER mentioned in the (not that many) articles about mcr and idk. Lmao I’m not trying to start anything but I guess your post kind of bothered me and I’m not sure why :/ sorry bc this is long and also my english it’s not the best here
i agree with you, i am aware that a large part of why he isn’t popular is bc of exposure, he had little screen time in music videos, interviews, etc. and favouritism is bound to happen among fans with most bands and groups (especially now that mcr’s broken up) however i don’t feel that should justify the blatant racism that does occur within this fanbase. ray is still the least popular member of the band and it shows, he has the least amount of twitter followers out of all the members, and his album had the least hype among fans (i do think this could also be due to ray himself not really having traditional promo for the album but still) and he never gets as much praise for his accomplishments and social awareness like the other members do. for example gerard can be political and anti-trump on his twitter and instagram but so is ray, ray is always tweeting and keeping up with politics and feminism but isn’t known for it as much as gerard. gerard is also very open about supporting the trans community and will tweet about it, and ray wrote and composed a song dedicated to leelah alcorn and posted it on soundcloud and when a fan asked why the song wasn’t featured on his solo album he replied saying that it wasn’t right for people to buy the song but he isn’t regarded as a trans ally as much as gerard is. now i’m not saying ray is better than gerard or trying to disregard gerard in any way but why is it that ray can have all this talent, use his platform and voice in the same way that the other members do but is basically ignored by a large amount of the fanbase, it just doesn’t add up. not to mention the alarming amount of fans who would rather support bob (despite his obvious grudge against the band, despite his manipulative and condescending attitude towards mcr fans, despite his racist remarks) over supporting ray, there’s a huge problem here.

I want to rant and maybe anyone else who can relate and vent too!? but I'm an american (sigh) and I heard one of our too-old-to-be-in-office senators say that it's not society's job to raise your kids. And many people began to get upset and blame pro lifers for this one "pro life" (in quotes because I kinda dont think he is one. Only for politics) dinosaur's opinion? I get it to some degree becauss we all should be responsible but I'm 1000% of the belief that it does take a village to raise a child and would LOVE IT if our society did protect and raise all babies with every social service out there. If we promoted healthy multigenerational homes instead of demanding everyone to move out at 18. Different story if your family is abusive but the theme of community building is what I'm getting at. It's one of my dreams as someone who is pro life but it's like my opinion or others who are pro life that have something similar are buried beneath the idiots of that senator, or a*bby j*nhson and the like. Like. Yes there ARE some of us that do like social services and will help out struggling mothers after birth! Pro life is not pro birth then that's it you're on your own! That's such a selfish idea imo. But I'm called a misogynist for being pro life and an evil commie/socialist?? on the other for my more ~liberal~ ideas like stronger social services and helping other people out 🙃🔫
I'm glad this multigenerational family notion is getting back on the discourse in the West because I think too, this is the ideal way to have a family. But I think it's important to note this discourse is only happening in the West because pretty much elsewhere, these type of model never left lol
Most of my family is in Africa and my grandma was living with my uncles/aunties, cousins and her grandchildren. When I came to visit her I could literally see how happy she was to play with her grand child, and it truly melt my heart to see how everyone was caring for her. She was starting to get sick so my uncles hired a maid to help her for daily tasks but she was mean to her/refused to get helped by her lmaooo So they eventually let her be and keep being the diva that she was🧡 I feel like in Africa hiring 'foreign' people to take care of your family is frowned upon or see as kinda disregarding/disrespectful. Familial bonding is super important. I don't think my grandma would'have lived that long if she didn't have her whole family next to her, taking care of her. There's also a lot less stigmatization with staying in the familial home once you're an adult. In many traditional cultures (Africa, Asia..) only marriage or studying abroad is seen as a valid reason to leave the familial home. Parents kicking their children or children walking out is also less normalized, but that's bc children from traditional countries are more well-behaved... imo lmao
I wish indeed this kind of multi generational never stopped going in the West. So many struggling mothers having to work and deal with motherhood, sometimes without a partner to split all the responsibilities with... It's easy to blame feminism, and yes, it's partially at fault, but not every household can manage having only one parent working, so the issue is also economical.
Right now, my family in Africa is taking care of one of my cousin's child while she's in France to study. When I went to see my grandma we had a kid I was seeing every day that I knew wasn't one of my nephew in the mansion and at some point I got like "who does this kid belong to???" lol And they told me it was the neighbor's kid they let in our house to play with my nephew (who were about the same age). Imagine how life would be if you could let your child to your neighbor's house while away bc you knew there would always be someone to take care of them? It would make thing so much easier for women who have to work.... Truly, the Western world is very hostile for young women.
I've been called an evil commie/socialist many times for daring to say we need stronger social system and better healthcare. But that's bc these twats feel don't know what they're talking about and don't grasp that government aren't supposed to make/save money but provide the physical integrity of citizens. Also they either don't care about women's health or antagonize female's fertility like it was a bad thing?

to state the obvious the problem with the vast and rapid spread of ideas on social media is people can say the most bizarrely wrong things and people spread it and everyone walks around thinking that shit is right and probably get in HS cafeteria debates about it and while yay you’re interested and educated, you’re debating something so genuinely out of touch that it’s almost counterproductive and that will follow you through life and you’ll perpetuate an outdated or actually just plain old wrong idea about something you were never enlightened about, for whatever reason, but MAYHAPS we all don’t get to go to college and take women’s studies courses and most ppl are just getting by with the internet or practical and active feminism
anyway i just zjskxjaosjqjks white feminism has become such a rapidly misused term to describe any feminism that doesn’t DIRECTLY ON IMPACT apply to every type of woman, ever. like that post going around about ecofeminism where a young person admitted that they didn’t know how that had anything to do with people of color so they didn’t care and wrote it off as white feminism. i love that the person has grown and admitted they had a lot to learn, but ... they still throw around divisive terms and devalidate certain actions. white women picking up bottles from the beach is not hurting feminism. it’s not causing divisions. it’s simply good for earth, its people and animals. when a white woman is picking up plastic and trash from the beach, she isn’t just ignoring every other plight in the world of every other woman jeeidjajjsahiahsjaja lmfaodbsjjs i can’t she’s trying to do a good thing that will ultimately down the line protect us all
if a woman of any race or ethnicity prioritizes recycling because that’s what she feels she can do rn to make a difference, cool! not white feminism. a woman who cares specifically about sex difference and sex discrimination but doesn’t get into the gender politics? not a white feminist! while women and people with uteruses and vaginas are being assaulted and killed and hated, then this important and a choice to focus on this doesn’t make the person evil or excluding any other feminisms.
prioritizing men? prioritizing CAPITALISM? pretty much the opposite of what most feminisms are going for. maybe critique that shit instead.
how quick we are to repeat the same behaviors we’re consistently working to subvert or destroy ... while mainstream feminism promoted by high profile women has harmful effects that draw focus away from real issues that women of color face everyday, systemic or not, an individual woman going about her life believing in equality and equity and wanting liberation is not doing anything to step on the shoulders of anyone else and i really don’t know why we’re just plucking ppl up and dropping them into jar like the fcking system we’re fighting against always has
it comes back to the “someone always has it worse” or “why are you not talking about every single problem on earth all at one time you horrible problematic person” and it’s like. chill lmao can we all just try our best? you know patronizing it can be for someone just kinda breaking free from self hate and internalized misogyny to think “oh i’m gonna going to try and approach life with a feminist lens” and two days in they’re being disregarded
i can’t even express all of the frustration i have with all of this toxic mess but life is so different. !! than the shit we read online. and academia is so different !!! than life outside of it. be kind to each other!!! we’re all learning!!
for example, recently did a project for an applied anthro class where we worked with the university’s sustainability org. they wanted to know how they could make themselves more accessible to the general student. we suggested going out and learning how people of different backgrounds and groups understood sustainability and working from there. this lead them to pair up with our american indian orgs where they learned things about the sustainability practices people in socal have been using for thousands of years. and it’s really that easy to find how a subject that seems to be exclusionary is actually just in need of a little synthesis.

My opinion on the phenomena of “lesbian” radfems actually being bisexual, which I talked about on one of psychrevenge’s post of her being equally irritated by another radfem:
“I’ve seen this happen with lesbians from different political backgrounds and have seen this happen with apolitical lesbians, online and offline. When you’ve seen this scenario repeat itself across a range of women, you can’t help but wonder why and how so many women come to perceive themselves as being lesbians and then how one dude pops along and BOOM different story. It’s the scenario misogynists and homophobes of all political spectrums love, they eat this shit up and it’s why this sexuality - particularly female sexuality - is inherently fluid idea just keeps gaining traction and social backing.
I do believe a lot of questioning women are led to believe as long as they disregard an attraction to men they in actuality have and ‘prioritize’ women they can magically be lesbians, so I do think politicization under the guise of “every woman can be a lesbian” is a major player. I also think there continues to be a lot of straight and bi women who are political lesbians who are like ‘SCREW MALES I’M ALL WOMAN” only to do shit such as get with a dude later on in life lmao but most of the time they say shit that makes it obvious, like ‘unlearning ATTRACTION’ to men or 'not acting on their ATTRACTION’ to men (a lot of radfems on here who are political lesbians have said stuff like this and THIS has given them away of all things tbh). Thanks to these assholes it adds extra harassment and disbelief of our sexuality, as well as people automatically equating feminists to just man-hating lesbians **until after graduation** andddd perceiving lesbianism as being the 'consequence’ of/inherently related to feminism.“
In addition, lesbians usually can tell who is doing this beforehand, but many of you being self righteous demonize them only for this shit to be 100% true.
Then again, as i said lately, radical feminism was created by appropriating het and bi women FOR het and bi women. It is true as fuck, and reality reflects that. Radical feminism is nothing close to a community respectful of lesbians, that is reality. Using this idea of sisterhood to bastardize lesbian experience for your own selfish gain against your attraction to men and how you deal with it is manipulation at its core.
For all the lesbians you get angry at and condemn for knowing this shit you lot sure prove what we say. You have some damn nerve.

i know i've reblogged like 200 negative tlj posts and 1 postitive one so far but i've never said you should hate tlj. yeah i hate it but i also have problematique favorite movies, like revenge of the sith. and star wars prequels are racist and sexist just like tlj over all.
but, even though i love prequels, i don't whine or get annoyed when people criticize the prequels either. because prequels are bad. because prequels are sexist and racist. they are poorly written as well. they suck lmao. those who say 'star wars fans are always complaining so that’s why they hate tlj" are wrong on so many levels... imagine not being upset at how racist sexist star wars movies are but at fans instead!
also when fans of color call you out because of this, yall sometimes go "no i was talking about fuckboys!!" yeah we know some fuckboys are complaining only because they didn't get what they want. but that's what media and journalists want us to think also. they are writing articles only about upset fanboys, saying the movie is so feminist and woke that it upset men... when it's actually white feminism that treat poeple of color so badly. everyone is utterly disregarding the voice of fans of color.
so if you really want to help us AND star wars then stop complaining and help to let people know racism, sexism and poor writing in tlj?? pls?? because this man is gonna direct another star wars trilogy and i can’t let it happen lmao

Externalising Anxiety
I just came across this essay I wrote a forever ago. I never did anything with it at the time, but, now I have a Tumblr I guess I can post it here (even though no one actually follows me lmao).
No one is immune to anxiety. That voice in your head which unprovoked rears its ugly self on what seemingly was a fine day, only to tell you that you’re not good enough and how everything will go horribly wrong. When not dealt with, the anxiety can grow and take over. You’ll alter your plans and let your actions be determined by self-doubt and insecurity. You’ll let yourself weaken and regress in attempts of ever-building desperation to keep that rotten, vicious, discouraging voice shushed. Meanwhile, your anxiety only strengthens ceaselessly becoming a more prevalent, dark and unruly figure in your life.
I’ve named my anxiety. And, now when I hear her grating voice, I tell her:
“Mabel - shut the f*ck up!”
I learned this technique from Katya; a drag queen famed from RuPaul's Drag Race, where she won the title of ‘Miss Congeniality’ on season 7 and made the top three on the series’ latest All Stars season. Katya (who’s known as Brian when stripped of makeup, padding, fishnets, and wigs) names her anxiety Brenda.
I have suffered from pretty severe GAD and clinical depression all through my tween and teen years. And I’ve tried more than a few meditation and relaxation techniques and positive self-talk tools to battle that ugly voice, all to varying levels of success. However, it was not until trying this method of externalisation that I truly felt able to gain back control.
Giving your anxiety a name allows you to separate its identity from your true self. It's a very real way of distancing you from your mental disorder, allowing you to understand that your anxiety is not equivalent to who you are nor does it define you. I named my anxiety Mabel because it's a funny and unintimidating name. Suddenly, when your anxiety sounds like either the name of a grandmother or of a family pet, it no longer seems as frightening and formidable.
I first became a fan of Katya's on RPDR as I found her unique humour hysterically funny. As the competition progressed, I began to root for her because I related to the way she doubted herself. I wanted to see Katya, who suffered from anxiety in the same way I did, succeed in overcoming her mental health. If she could succeed, it's totally possible I can succeed too.
Admittedly, having a fake-Russian, ex-drug-addict, surreal humorist drag queen as a role model is, on paper, an odd choice for a teenage girl living in rural Scotland. But, I have my reasons. Watching Katya and her zany wit either on TV or her youtube series can sometimes be the only thing which will give me a moment of respite from crappy stuff going on in my life. She's a weird, goofy character who has been able to make me laugh whenever, whatever.
And it's not just her comedy I find inspiring. Katya uses her platform to speak out on important issues. In a series of late night live streams, she has discussed topical matters such as racism, feminism, politics, addiction, and anxiety. She's a passionate, intelligent, well-spoken advocate with a unique perspective who wants to make a positive impact on the world. Not bad for a man in a dress.
Externalising your anxiety is not much different from creating a drag persona. You get to chose their name, characteristics and how much attention you'll give them. You've probably come across the metaphor where you have an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other. Why not try counteracting the discouraging voice of your anxiety with the motivating voice of a fierce queen? I'll pay more credence to a glittery, unshakable, confident diva than I will to Mabel. And the more I consciously disregard the opinion of Mabel, the quieter her voice becomes.
This externalisation technique, for me, works far better than other methods of tackling anxiety have. Perhaps it's simply a technique that I click with. Maybe, because I learned it from someone I admire and not from a clinical, monotonous, counsellor's office pamphlet, I tried a little harder. It could be both these combined. I'm not sure. What I do know, however, is that I've become more self-assured and optimistic. I do still worry a lot, but I'm getting better at recognising when my fears are irrational, and when they are, I know not to allow them to deter me.
Dealing with anxiety will be something I'll likely face for decades to come. It's a process, and it's not going to go away overnight. I had my last panic attack just a week ago, and realistically, I doubt that will be my final one. Mabel will always be trash-talking in my ear, and there are going to be times when I'll give in and listen.
Over the past two years, I've seen Katya blossom from someone who was insecure into someone who believes in herself.  Not only does she now take advantage of opportunities when they come her way, she'll also use her ingenuity to create her own opportunities. I can't say I'm this courageous yet, but reaching that level of spirit no longer seems an impossibility. If Katya can do it, so can I.
