How do you draw beaks?? I love your art!
Thank you, anon!! And honestly, I have no idea–I mean, some idea I do, I'm just still trying to improve myself on that
Tumblr media
I'm not sure how I would do a tutorial this time BUT HEY here's a few basic tips that may help out!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also: Really draw it, draw that weird angle, pick a fav bird and fill a page with them. The key to learn is really observing, understanding and of course drawing a lot
It'll help you get it way more than just sticking to the same beak expression
As I always say, these can kinda teach you how to learn to draw anything, divide it by shapes and see how each thing work!
I don't really think there's a right way to do it, so it's up to you!

do you perhaps have a pattern for that gentleman's corset? asking for a friend
Hi!
Unfortunately, I do not have a pattern to give you, but I do have a way for you/your friend to draft your own.
(If you really do just want a ready pattern, I'm pretty sure my #binding stays or #flattening stays tags include some etsy shops that have binders with corsetry methods)
I'm presuming you are here because that 5 year old post of the binder with elizabethan stays method is going around again (left). I've also since made a pair of stays that flatten nicely as well (right).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The left pattern was drafted with the free Custom Corset Pattern Generator from elizabethancostume.net. You just input a little extra breathing room in the waist and the bust measurement you can comfortably squish your chest down to.
However, that was many years ago and I have since had more success using a Mariah Pattie's circular drafting technique. It has so much less measuring and math and it gave me a better fit.
Here's my post on that technique, along with her video.
And here's my post amending that to a binder instead of stays.
In short, all you need is:
a large piece of paper
a string
a pen
a measuring tape and
the measurement of your waist circumference
the measurement of your chest bound down circumference
the measurement of the vertical distance between your waist and chest.
You draw out the pattern following the video + my explanation post (this takes me about 30 minutes vs the hour or two for drafting the usual way). Then I make it longer with a cm or two at the bottom and at least 3 cm on top. One change I've made since that post was to pinch out a little dart at the arms to make it lie smoother under clothes. One day I'm going to experiment with adding straps to this design, but today is not that day.
I kept mine quite low, because I wanted a 18th century round chested look, but with straps and longer stays you could probably go flatter (depending on how much you have to flatten of course).
This is what it looks like under a waistcoat tailored according to a menswear manual:
Tumblr media
i'll also drop here the posts of other people who've I've talked about their binders using corsetry and tailoring methods: horsehair canvas summer binder, there's another one about how convenient ribbons are for easy adjustment but i can't find it (EDIT: found it!)
Good luck and do let me know if you've advanced this research any further!

hi hello! i recall you talking about how you used to have an unhealthy dependence on attention you got from the internet a while ago, and was wondering if you had any tips on how to help with that? i recently found myself sorta relying too much on the affirmation i get from Numbers Going Up and i wanna nip it in the bud before it becomes a Thing. thank you! ^^
i found that the best way to curb the addiction was to wean myself off it bit by bit. start with something small and achievable, like setting a time limit for how long you spend online in one sitting (set a timer to help you if necessary), or setting aside specific free periods in the day when you can check your notifications or whatever, then gradually limit it further until you've reached a point you're comfortable with. you'll find that the more you stick to the goals you've set for yourself, the more it'll start to feel like a reward and substitute for the affirmation you get from number go up (and you'll start to pay more attention to how you spend your limited time and what are the best ways to do so).
place your phone or laptop or whatever device you use for social media out of sight while doing other activities, so that you have to make the conscious effort to seek them out (and thus consider whether you really want to do it) (if i'm trying to concentrate on something, for example, i'll put my phone in a drawer or in my bag/pocket, and make sure i can't hear or see any notification messages). if you feel you can, turn off or temporarily mute your notifications - that works wonders for me.
use the free time you've created for yourself to seek out things you've always wanted to do but never felt like you had the time for. read the book you've been putting off, write something, draw something, get into that crafting hobby, or go for a walk and feed some birds at the pond, go out and challenge yourself to take a photo of something eyecatching to share with your friends, go to a cafe, meet up with a friend, try out that recipe you saved because you thought it sounded nice, look into social groups, events and clubs that cater to your interests/hobbies in your local area - even make use of the time you'd normally spend on social media to do something else online, like wikipedia deep diving, watching a show, or replying to that person you forgot to get back to.
above all, don't beat yourself up along the way. take each day as it comes and each relapse as motivation to keep pushing forwards and make it a little longer between the next one. don't blame yourself for what you can't change (the past) but try to focus on what you can (the future).

not femme as in “girl” but femme as in the moon, as in the way the wind caresses long grass, as in the sound of intoxicating laughter, as in putting perfume on knowing it’s your lover’s favorite, as in the soft holy curve of your body, as in water flowing, as in a gentle touch on a butch’s chest, as in the sweetness of honey, as in the glow of fireflies, as in the starry sky on a summer night, as in black lace hidden under soft and comfortable clothes, as in creating art and food and beauty, as in venus rising from seafoam, as in the euphoria of dance and of song and of night, as in glittery eyes and willing lips, as in the gentleness of love mixed with the fierceness of protection, as in care, as in pride, & more & more & more &

okokok im really confised about thr he/him lesbian 😭 im sorry this sounds really rude i just like need someone to explain. sorry sorry sorry
im stupid pleaseplease explain
of course, anon. my pleasure.
so what i want you to do is to imagine, for example, me — an abstract figure, coming back home from my factory job. it's manual labor, it pays well, and i get to touch machinery for 12 hours. i get home, i don't shower, because it's so much better to shower right before going to bed, and i sit on my pretty much rotting couch with a beer. i have a tv, for some reason. i don't watch it. i just sit on my couch and silently hate the president.
a phone rings. i look at it, without feeling a twitch to actually accept the call, but it's x, a femme i met a while ago going grocery shopping. "i need some help with the shelf," she says, sounding oddly upset, "can't make it work, and the instructions are in swedish". i'm off the couch and on the street knocking at her door before i even register the words spoken.
the next hours are not really important — i build the shelf, i move furniture around, i even fix her sink situation while i'm at it. she offers me to smoke with her from time to time. i do, even though she buys those skinny flavoured ones and they taste like nothing with a subtle fleur of soap.
and then i leave, going home to sit on my couch. and i hate the president.

hope this isn't too annoying but you do have any tips for drawing teeth? i l o v e the way you draw them but i can't seem to draw fangs that well :/
Tumblr media
I've seen some amazing tutorials for teeth which explain much more about how teeth fit in the skill, which is very useful! But this is a very quick explanation of how I do Teeth! I don't often outline teeth too hard, unless I'm doing tusks, since the gums and teeth edges suggest pretty well without em!

Thank you for leaving these tags @pharawee! Without getting into any speculation about how Dead Friend Forever will actually end, I do want to address your question and talk about why most of us want to see severe consequences for these boys. The short answer: it's about genre expectations and the psychological catharsis of a good revenge narrative.
To get down to the really basic point: people who love revenge thrillers love them because they are a fantasy construct in which good people survive and bad people get what they deserve. In a world where bad things happen and we rarely have any control, a good revenge story can be exhilarating, giving you the feeling that justice prevailed, villains received appropriate comeuppance for their wrongs, and the protagonist seized control back and experienced much needed catharsis for their suffering. Real life is very much not like this, which is why it's such an appealing genre of fiction.
So how do we calibrate what "appropriate comeuppance" means? This is where genre expectations become really important, because the genre the revenge narrative plays out in sets the terms for where that bar sits. In The Glory, a recent world class revenge drama, we were in the psychological thriller genre, so revenge came in the form of Dong Eun playing mind games with her bullies until they destroyed their own lives. No murder necessary. Dead Friend Forever, however, is in the horror genre, and specifically began its story by planting itself in the slasher subgenre, giving us a masked killer and setting up expectations that these boys are being hunted. When you watch a slasher, you come in with the mindset that most of the characters are going to die and begin rooting for it and looking for reasons why they "deserve" it. And typically, in a slasher, it takes very little for a character to "deserve" a death--you often see people die for the tiniest infractions, like making a rude comment, telling a bad joke, or having sex. But DFF went much farther than that and gave us a multi episode flashback in which we got a detailed accounting of every wrong this group of boys committed against Non, increasing the audience's bloodlust and conviction that these boys needed to pay.
So why do so many of us want the bullies to die? Because the genre demands it, and the story set the audience up to expect it from the outset. I have seen some discussion of the way the show is blending different horror subgenres and not sticking strictly to typical slasher conventions, and that's true, and expected. Slashers are usually two hours max, and this show needed to fill 10+ hours of content, so it's doing a really interesting blend of slasher, mystery, psychological thriller, and other horror subgenres. But the bones of the story still hold, and despite the storytelling choice to give the villains some nuance and fleshed out motivations for their behavior, they are still villains who destroyed Non's life. If you're feeling overly sympathetic to any of these boys at present, I encourage you to go back and remind yourself how they behaved in the early episodes of this story, which took place after the events of the flashbacks. These are not genuinely remorseful kids who made minor mistakes and then got their acts together and became upstanding citizens; they just want to move on and avoid blame and accountability for what they did, while Non's entire family was irrevocably destroyed by their actions.
If this story ends without Por, Tee, Top, Fluke, Jin, and Phee suffering genre appropriate consequences for their choices that harmed and betrayed Non, it will be a letdown and many will feel unsatisfied. In real life, we may believe that forgiveness is the right path, and we know that Buddhism teaches unconditional forgiveness. But this is not real life. This is a fantasy genre that is specifically meant to provide an escape from the constraints of real life morality and obligations. No one wants to show up to a fantasy party only to receive a moral scolding. The most disappointing thing a revenge narrative can do is wimp out on delivering the actual revenge.

Hello there 💜 as someone who’s trying to figure out cel shade and wrap her head around the use of airbrush and hard light, and…your style??! my eyes?! It’s so PRETTY!! The way you shade just draws the viewer in instantly! And points for the art of Astorian ✨
could I possibly ask how you go about your shade/lighting process? If that’s a question with a lot of undertaking then please don’t feel obligated to answer! Just know that your art is beautiful!
Thank you! 💛 I honestly don't really think my art style is anything special like you said it's just cel shading, but still thank you it's nice to hear that my art looks good to other people.
Anyways there's has been a lot of people who asked about the "process" I am going to give you a very simplified version because otherwise I'll start rambling and it's going to be too long I mean look how much I've written already.
First of all I work with PS, but you can replicate this anywhere.
So first I have a base color layer, the line art and the base color are separated.
Tumblr media
I select the entire base color layer with a quick selection tool, and in a new layer that will be above the base color but below the line art with a paint bucket tool I fill it with my desired color, the layer blending mode must be set to hard light. This is the shadow layer.
Tumblr media
Now in another new layer above the shadow layer, I use the polygonal lasso tool to select everything that will be in the light layer, once I am done with that I will fill it with whatever color I want. Btw you can use a brush for this I just use the polygonal lasso because I just like it that way.
Tumblr media
In another new layer with the layer blending mode set to Linear Dodge (Add), I select with the quick selection tool everything from the light layer, I hide the light layer and in the new linear dodge layer I create a gradient with the selection. I usually use a radial gradient since I think it gives a more natural look but you can use whatever fits your art. If you don't know how to use a gradient, you just drag it from the direction of the light source. And you should have something that looks like this:
Tumblr media
This is a very simplified explanation I add a lot of more gradients and lots of layers so this is just the base.
I'm sorry if this is incomprehensible, I also struggle with written instructions so if something isn't clear just ask me again I'll try explain it in detail and add more screenshots 💜

If you aren't sure if you have access to polls yet, here's how you find it:
Tumblr media
On desktop, the poll option will appear highlighted in orange when you create a text post. Polls are a new element, or content block, that you can add to text, they're not an entirely separate post type with a new icon in the header, which may be causing confusion for those used to the web interface.
This feature is only available in the new editor, not the legacy editor.
Tumblr media
In the app (at least on iOS), the poll option will appear in the content menu to the right of the audio button when you create a new post. Obviously make sure your app is up-to-date as well.
Also note that polls can't be added to reblogs, only original posts, so the option won't show up on reblogs.
