lil bit of AC x Temeraire
"Translation error," is Clay's verdict.
"Translation error," Desmond repeats dubiously, staring down at him.
"Yes."
"Uh-huh. And that means what, exactly?"
So many things that he doesn't understand, it turns out. Stuff like how Animus code works and how badly it was originally designed, Abstergo trying to derive from the First Civilisation's work and how it was bungled up. Add into the mix human DNA - Clay's - being translated into Animus simulation which was then translated into whatever the Grand Temple had going on for itself which was then translated yet again into the background processing of the universe, plus the delightfully unstable addition of stray thoughts and the fact that Desmond has slight Piece of Eden infection and apparently the placebo effect is actual fucking magic -
"What?" Desmond asks helplessly.
"Stalk it up as a glitch in the Matrix, times a thousand," Clay concludes. "And don't worry about it."
"Um. No, I don't think I can," Desmond says, emphatically, and motions at him. "Clay, you're a dragon."
Clay looks down at himself, at his sinuous body of pale gold and burnished bronze. He's not a very big dragon, about the size of a big dog maybe, but he's still very clearly a dragon. Wings and tail and talons and all.
Clay looks up at him, and his voice is sardonic. "Wow, your Eagle Vision must be levelling up, Desmond, your observational abilities are off the charts!"
Desmond folds his arms. "I'm also observing that there's something wrong with the Grand Temple," he says flatly.
Clay swings his long necked head around this way and that, taking in the ancient volcanic cave around them. "Looks the same to me."
"All our stuff is gone, Clay. And I seem to recall that part having collapsed. It looks pretty uncollapsed to me. Also, the barrier is up again," Desmond points at the glowing Isu-tech barrier between them and the device Desmond is pretty sure he just activated. "Are you seeing the barrier, Clay, the barrier I spent the last week's of my life opening?"
"Don't be ridiculous, Seventeen, you're not dead yet."
"Clay," Desmond says, even flatter.
The dragon blows out an acrid smelling breath. "Okay, fine, I did maybe attempt a little bit of time travel," he says defensively. "You would've too if you realised what the Grand Temple could really do!"
"Which is… time travel?"
"Pretty much anything that your little mind can come up with, actually."
Desmond gives him another one over and folds his arms. "Like turning you into a dragon."
"Manipulating probabilities is one hell of a thing," Clay agrees and nudges his side with his nose. Snout? "But the dragon bit is definitely a translation error. I was trying to recode myself into an Isu," he adds, very quickly under his breath. "Not a winged reptile with an upset stomach."
"You - what?"
Clay avoids looking him in the eye and huffs out an embarrassed breath. "Also you're not dead. You're welcome for not being dead," he says pointedly.
Desmond stares at him for a long moment before letting out a sigh and letting it go. "Thanks. You have an upset stomach?" he then asks.
"It kinda hurts, yeah," Clay murmurs, shifting his weight a little, and just then there's an audible gurgle from somewhere within him, his draconic belly rumbling.
Desmond lets his hands drop to his sides. "You're hungry?" he asks incredulously.
"I haven't eaten anything in almost a year, Desmond, have some sympathy."
"Yeah, well, you were dead," Desmond says, making a face, and then hesitates. "I should be dead."
"That's what Juno wanted to happen anyway," Clay agrees and unfurls his wings tentatively. "Again you're welcome."
"Right. You… saved me. And brought us back in time," Desmond says slowly and frowns  "When exactly are we?"
Clay spreads out his wings and shakes himself. "If I didn't mess up the calculations, maybe two hundred years back in time."
"Uh. Why two hundred years?"
"It's enough time to fast forward industrial revolution without breaking history too badly," Clay says almost flippantly and gives him a look. "And all your major ancestors have procreated and died and so if we mess up time, there's still a good chance you will be born."
Desmond blinks. "That's," he starts to say and then isn't entirely sure how to continue. It's not exactly comforting, not exactly worrisome. It's something in between with a little bit of existential horror thrown in. "Okay," he settles on saying, feebly. "And what are we going to do? Just cause an early industrial revolution?"
"That and some other things. I have some plans," Clay says, not quite modestly.
Desmond isn't exactly reassured by his tone. "And how does becoming a dragon feature in those plans?"
Clay hesitates and looks down at himself, shifting his weight on his taloned claws. "Well," he says and his stomach grumbles again. "I think it might change the first step. Get food, instead of find riches. Do you think we could get some food? I'm really hungry, Desmond. You know how to hunt, right?"
Desmond eyes him for a moment and then hums. "I know how to hunt, yeah," he says slowly and looks away, towards the entrance to the Temple. Or rather the exit from their point of view. "But, uh."
"What?"
"You know, we needed Minerva's Apple to get in here. The door was pretty well shut - and had been for tens of thousands of years." Desmond points out and nods at the sloping cave, leading away from them. "How do you suppose we're going to get out?"
Clay stills and then tucks his wings back in. "Oh," he says.
"Yeah. Oh."

What if Travel Winds but with Clay and more crack?

Them as Dads - 141 + König
Requested by Anon
Fluff, hints of angst
Simon "Ghost" Riley
Simon's childhood was, to say the least, horrific.
No child should have had to experience when he went through.
Those experiences have stuck with him all his days, emotions buried deep down to a point where he doesn't feel them anymore.
There's a distinct divide between Ghost and Simon - and since he's considered legally dead, he has no reason to drop his mask anymore.
Needless to say, when he found out he was going to be a Dad, he short-circuited.
Didn't even say a word, and just left.
Of course he felt guilty for it, and he knew that what he did was wrong, but he needed to think.
The last time he had even been around a child was his little nephew...
And that tragic part of his past truly was the final nail in the coffin for him.
He was terrified of being like his own Father.
He did eventually come back but for the duration of the pregnancy, a cocktail of emotions swirled in his stomach.
The day he held his child for the first time, he was stunned.
This tiny little human, with their little button nose and - his eyes.
He grew angry - angry at his Father, and by extension the World.
How could anyone bring something so small, so fragile, so perfect any harm?
Needless to say, he's a very protective Father.
If any of the Team were to meet the baby, he probably wouldn't even let any of his comrades hold them.
Maybe Johnny - but that's at a push, and he'd be hovering around him the whole time like a shadow.
He'd be soft for his child - but he'd try to be the strict parent, teaching them to be ready for whatever the world may throw their way.
If he had a daughter, would let her paint his nails - would sit there still as a statue, watching with soft eyes at how her tongue stuck out of the side of her mouth in concentration.
Speaking of, regardless of the child's gender - boyfriends / girlfriends / significant others would absolutely be interrogated before they even step a foot through the door.
"Who the fuck are you?" "You're 16?? Cunt, you look 30!"
It would essentially be like that scene from Bad Boys 2 - Soap would definitely be Will Smith in that scenario, accepting no criticism~
Would try to be there for every life event and would feel a deep seated guilt if he couldn't because he'd been deployed.
Overall, from day one, he'd made a promise to himself that he wouldn't let history repeat itself - he'd give his child everything he ever wanted growing up and more.
Johnny "Soap" MacTavish
I can see him as a chill Dad.
He wouldn't let his child get away with murder, but he would be good cop 99% of the time.
Would absolutely spoil them rotten - they would have to so much as look at something they liked and he'd get it for them.
It would be his Mother that would have to try and get him to reign in the spending a bit.
Also carries the baby around in one of those baby carriers across his chest.
I think he has a big, close-knit family so the child would have a ball playing with all their cousins of mixed ages.
If he had a son, definitely tries to style his baby hairs into a little mohawk with gel.
Lets his kids express themselves however they want.
They want to dye their hair? He's driving them to the shops to get the supplies.
They want a piercing? As long as they're old enough, he's fine with it - and if they want him to go with them for moral support, he's already in the car.
I think the only think he'd be awkward about would be periods.
He'd try to be helpful...but he's not great at handling it.
C/N: Dad, I got my period.
Johnny: Oh - OH! Okay, that's - that's fine...ehh...do you...do you know what to do with it...or?
I can also see him just running into a shop in an absolute panic - asking the store clerk for assistance because he doesn't even know what he's looking for.
Returns home with three massive bags of supplies.
He'd be supportive with whatever they wanted to do in life - if they wanted to go to University, he'd help them with their application; if they wanted to get a job, he'd be helping them look for vacancies, driving them to their interviews; if they wanted to join the military however...he'd be reluctant, but he would never discourage them for pursing anything.
The only thing he'd have an issue with...is if his daughter got a boyfriend.
He'd not be as...hostile as Ghost, but the silent threat is always lingering in the air.
If anyone ever hurt his child, he can switch from fun-loving Johnny to Sergeant in the blink of an eye.
Captain John Price
That child has this man wrapped around their finger from day one.
Would give them the world if he could.
Would never smoke his cigars anywhere in the vicinity of them, and would hide them out of reach - especially during the curious toddler stage.
I can see him cutting up their grapes into smaller pieces, paranoid that they'd choke otherwise.
Has dozens of photos of them wearing his hat - even got them a toddler version of his own because they liked it so much.
Doesn't matter how old they are, they're still that little smiling baby in his eyes.
So needless to say, he's very protective.
Doesn't threaten potential partners - he doesn't need to, he's a Captain in the military, so nobody would be so stupid as to try and hurt his child.
Only brings the child on base when he knows that only people he can trust are there - ie. the 141 taskforce.
Follows the toddler as they waddle around, waving happily as they pass people - Soap ends up joining the little adventure since the little one took his hand and he didn't have the heart to let go.
Speaking of, despite not being given the official title, Soap becomes Uncle Soap the moment he claps eyes on Price's child.
Gaz too - he sent Price the photos he took of them wearing his sunglasses, a beaming smile on their face.
It came as a shock to everyone when they saw the child approach Ghost.
It even shocked Ghost when the child made eye contact with him - and didn't cry. Instead, they smiled, tugging on the leg of his trousers to be picked up. And, even more surprisingly, he did.
Price never has to worry about keeping his child safe - because god help whoever tried to hurt them when they have 4 highly trained SAS soldiers coming for them.
Kyle "Gaz" Garrick
He’d be one of those young, cool Dads.
Buys himself and the little one matching shoes.
Also matching outfits are the thing, especially during the toddler stage.
His kid would be the drippiest kid in the playground.
FaceTimes and calls home whenever he can when he’s deployed, seeing their little smiley face just makes his day so much brighter.
When he’s home he’s more than happy to spent chill days just watching cartoons with them on the couch, making pillow forts - he probably enjoys it more than the kid to be honest.
I reckon he’d struggle to actually parent the child, and would rather be their best friend than an authoritarian figure - ironic, considering he’s a Sergeant.
So it would probably be up to the child’s Mother to reign him in when he’s being a bit too soft or blasé.
Helps his kid build the best Minecraft house.
Loves being able to bring the child on base, showing them off to the Team.
Price secretly loves having the little one around, and they’re often found chilling together in his office.
Would absolutely spoil them - whether it be new toys, sweets or anything they wanted, he’d get it for them without a doubt.
Uncle Soap once spiked up the little one’s hair to match his own mohawk - Gaz wasn’t mad about it at all, and thought it actually looked cool as fuck.
If he had a daughter he would definitely sit down and learn how to do little braids in her hair.
Would also let her put little clips and bows in his hair, painting his nails to match.
He’d just be so soft for his child.
König
When the child was little, Konig was absolutely terrified that he would end up accidentally hurting them.
They were so small, barely even taller that his knee when he was standing, and all he could think about was what if he accidentally stood on their little foot or walked into them without noticing.
So, most of the time, he carried them around.
Would read books to them at bedtime, teaching them German and English to the best of his ability.
I don't think he'd wear his hood around them often, preferring his child to see his face rather than two eyes surrounded by black cloth.
Was genuinely surprised when they didn't cry after seeing him with it on; their little hand touched the cloth before breaking out into a sunny grin, "Dada!"
He probably cried a little bit after that.
He didn't have the greatest time growing up - so I think if his child ever got bullied, he would struggle to compose himself.
In his eyes, his child was perfect, so for anyone to go and make them feel bad about themselves - or worse yet, make them cry, it makes him see red.
Doesn't go and threaten the child - he'd not cruel. But the sight of a giant, masked man looming over all the other parents at school pick-up is more than enough to put the fear into anyone who had been picking on his kid.
Would probably teach them how to fight and defend themselves from a young age - he wouldn't always be around, due to deployment, so it gave him some peace of mind knowing that they would be able to defend themselves.

Welcome to part two of my official Henry-hate crusade. Time to cover the true ending of Pizzeria Sim! For this one, I want to take one of the fandoms favorite moments, the connection terminated speech, and shred it to piece while explaining why Henry isn't really a hero in this instance. So! Let's go over certain lines. Maybe compliment some of my favorite ones so this isn't just hating and recognizing he isn't the absolute worst.
"And to you, my brave volunteer."
Idk about you, but it doesn't exactly seem to me like Michael knew what he was volunteering for.
"Who somehow found this job listing not intended for you."
If it was anyone else, they probably would've died. The only other person by this point who was known to be able to survive the animatronics was Jeremy and I doubt that even if he was still around, he would be able to fend them off due to brain injury. Also, not so much a complaint, but did Henry have someone else in mind or just threw the job listing into the void?
"Although, there was a way out planned for you, I have a feeling that's not what you want. I have a feeling that you are right where you want to be."
Why not ask. Or at least tell him what the way out is instead of just assuming he hasn't found anything to live for and effectively murdering him?
"I am remaining as well. I am nearby."
Yep. Just make sure everyone who knows what's going on dies even though it's not like William hasn't escaped a fire before. Very responsible of you.
"This place will not be remembered. And the memory of everything that started this. Can finally begin to fade away. As the agony of every tragedy should."
I'm a firm believer in when history is forgotten it repeats itself, so quite frankly wanting people to forget seems a bit stupid. I agree that they shouldn't be trapped in the agony of it, but "this place will not be remembered" seems wrong.
"Although, for one of you. The darkest pit of Hell has opened to swallow you whole. So, don't keep the Devil waiting, old friend."
I can complain about Henry all day, but William is objectively far worse, and this line is absolute fire. Pun intended.
"My daughter, if you can hear me. I knew you would return as well."
Might be due to that animatronic you made to capture her and deliver constant controlled shocks and also somehow ended up in a magazine? Idk though. Just a theory.
"I'm sorry that on that day. The day you were shut out and left to die. No one was there to lift you up in their arms. The way you lifted others into yours."
But why. I get that being a parent can be hard and you can't have an eye on your kid 24/7, but he should've at least made there was a responsible adult present.
"Not my daughter. I couldn't save you then, so let me save you now."
Yippee. Negligent dad who can only making up for leaving his child without a responsible adult which led to her early death by using Lefty so that she can finally move on. Yayyyy /extreme sarcasm ofc
“Congratulations on completing your work week. We apologize if your situation wasn't presented to you In a completely honest fashion when you first started, but it was important that your intentions and actions be genuine.”
I cannot emphasize enough that Michael was not told what was going to happen and given the last sentence it seems like he didn't even feel the need to be suspicious of what was going on.
“Please accept this Certificate of Completion. Goodbye for now, and thank you for taking this journey with us.”
More of theorizing but it's kind of weird that this whole monologue was recorded and delivered if Michael is supposed to be actually dead. I know it's for the player, but I feel like they could easily spin this and bring Michael back.
Tune in next time where I cover the other endings, possibly rant about how everything in FNaF is awful for everyone, and miscellaneous if there's any!

with very little respect to that one feral Chima-purity-defender: here's that thing I was talking about the other day I now formally present THE SLOG THEORY.
obviously, this is STUPID rough. In order to make this way more accurate, I'd have to know how many normal days each season of Chima and Ninjago takes, which... not happening. I ain't doing that. This is very heavily rounded and largely for illustrative purposes.
(@ghostwalloper said I was cooking. It's dinnertime, pal.)
Tumblr media
The original joke was that, since Chima is such a pain in the ass to watch and feels like it takes forever, obviously time in that realm must be WAY slower than in Ninjago, and only equalizes when The Merge happens and throws everything into a blender. Hence the name Slog Theory. I'm building on the time slowness thing here, because it's FUNNY. I could be entirely wrong - maybe everything in Chima happens in the span of five Ninjago minutes during the first season and they're just sitting around for the rest of the time.
Reading the chart: Blue side is Chima, with season chunks numbered. Red is Ninjago. Please note that the Ninjago season numbers are off to the side, ABOVE their related chunk, due to space. The purple V shape is when the Merge happens well after the end of N15. I drew this on my phone over breakfast, okay? Don't come at me for that. With that being said, I kept all of the time chunks on each side approximately the same just for ease of drawing, because - once again, for the people in the back - there is no way I am going back and doing the math to figure out exactly how many regular days each season takes. That's impossible. There are clues, sure, but WAY too many cuts. Just roll with it, please.
See those green zones on the blue Chima side? Those are our KEY POINTS. There are three, each correlating to some spot on the Ninjago side. They are:
The infamous Possession cameo. My brief research shows that this is an edited scene from EP 15 of C1, which leaves us two possibilities: either the cameo scene with Lloyd and Morro present is canon to BOTH sides, or history repeated itself on the Chima side after the original Eris/other bird iteration, and they all went to hang out on that hill again, hoping to see another fight. And boy did they deliver! Besides that scene EXPLICITLY being an edited version of one from C1, we also know that character lineup is consistent with C1.
The Beaver Portal thing from the second have of N11. It's trickier to place this in the Chima timeline because it doesn't have any of the main characters involved to indicate what season it happens in via armor or lineup, so I just let it fall where it may, which loosely suggests it happens somewhere off to the side between C2 and C3.
The final cliffhanger shot. Following with the time line I've already established with the other cameos, approximately 4-5 seasons have passed since the last one, which puts this after the end of N15 - right around where the Merge would kick off DR. Which would explain why we never see the Chima characters go have adventures down there - reality gets shredded first! Like, right after that shot!
Anyway! It's ultimately all pretty pointless - we're over here fighting over a toy commercial, after all - but I thought that drawing and writing it out a little more thoroughly helped me out, so I hope it helps you all, too.

Silver and the KoD share the traits you posted! I know that Fairy Gala showed him being a pushover most of all, but even before then there were instances where he went with what others were saying despite his own qualms about it.
They do! Despite not remembering or even being raised by the Knight for very long, Silver and him are definitely a lot alike.
However, I think how they deal with conflict is completely different (or will be completely different as the story continues), and that comes down to how Silver was raised.
Silver was raised by Lilia, who placed a lot of importance on ensuring Silver could overcome a multitude of possible challenges both if he were with someone he could trust (namely Sebek) or on his own.
Lilia grew up without a family or anyone to rely on for an unknown amount of years of his life. When he was taken in by Maleficia, it's pretty obvious she didn't raise him like a son and instead brought him up as a servant/guard and soon-to-be general to serve Meleanor.
The Knight of Dawn actually had a similar situation to Lilia, he was blessed by fairies and taken in by Leia's family, but he was raised to be a knight and guard (most likely to Leia) and he didn't truly gain a family until he and Leia wed and had Silver.
The Knight fighting for his soon to be father-in-law's life came from a sense of duty, feeling like he owed it to him (Silver also feels this way, except Lilia also raised him to think for himself too, which comes out more in 7.)
Lilia also raised Silver to be open-minded, compassionate and understanding of people's differences. He's essentially the perfect olive branch for fae and human-kind.
You'd think that Silver would just do whatever Malleus and Lilia tell him to, just like how the Knight of Dawn did whatever Henrick told him to do- and there are moments where Silver acknowledges this, believing that he needs to repay his family for taking care of him and even thinking that he would never oppose them in any way-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But when it comes to Malleus cursing all of Sage's Island and keeping them trapped to prevent Lilia from leaving him (and especially Silver, as Silver's sorrow inspired him to do this), Silver defies Malleus who is not only his older brother but the prince he is expected to serve as he gets older,
Tumblr media
The Knight of Dawn was instructed to duel Meleanor and while having the sense that it was wrong, did not fight against his orders.
Malleus gives Silver multiple ultimatums to just accept the perfect dream world, but Silver rejects it every time. Even though he's sad and doesn't want his father to leave, he knows what Malleus is doing is wrong and doesn't listen to his orders.
Maybe a 'good knight' would do everything his lord wants, but Silver does what is actually right, and that's stopping Malleus's dream world and allowing change, no matter how painful.
And that's also why I think history won't repeat itself. The Knight of Dawn went into battle without speaking to Meleanor like he wanted to. I don't think Silver would do that. Based on how both Silver and Malleus were raised, there's no way they would intentionally look to kill each other, and Silver will always try to talk Malleus back to his senses with compassion.
And so Silver is still a pushover among his peers, the person with the least to complain about, who doesn't stick up for himself and even believes people who tease him may be correct in doing so,
But when it really matters, Silver does what his bio dad couldn't.

Parental! Kanej x gn! Reader - History repeats itself (sometimes in the worst ways)
A/n: I had a question, a terrible question and decided to write about it :)
Warings: child exploitation, slavery, allea gets slapped my inej when she's in a bad headspace, gore, blood, death, rape (it's alluded to, you never read anything that happens), dismemberment, thoughts about suicide, kidnapping, guns, knives, violence, injuries, swearing, violence against children, I think that's it? You have been warned!
Request by: @nikfigueiredo (I'm sorry this took forever, and I will fulfill your other request soon!)
Summary: When one of the worst things imaginable happens to you, your family stops at nothing to come and save you. Unless of course, it's too late.
The 3 P's:
[Pronouns used: you/your, they/them] [Pov: multiple/2nd person] [Pairings: (parental!) kanej x reader, (sibling!) allea x jordie x reader, (romantic!) kaz x inej]
Tumblr media
Inej
Kaz had stumbled into the house with a panicked look on his face, with a crying Allea at his side, Inej knew something was terribly wrong.
She didn't even have to question him for Kaz to know what she was asking, as soon as their eyes connected he knew.
Perhaps even worse, she knew too.
But she had to hear him say it.
"Y/n's gone."
Her breath stuttered in her throat and she had to grip the side of the chair she was standing beside.
It's Jordie, her eldest who asks what truly happened, and the answer makes her blood run cold.
"They were taken by slavers."
No, no, Inej couldn't- She tripped over her own feet and fell backwards, not even registering that Jordie had gone to catch her.
Her child, her beautiful child had been taken by the same people who had taken her, she couldn't even fathom the reality. Why must fate be so cruel? What had Y/n done to deserve this? What had she done to deserve this?
Saints- No. No more saints, no more games! Her- her sweet Y/n, had been taken, despite everything, despite the fact that Inej literally hunted slavers they had still been ripped away from their family. Inej was tired of everything going right then so, so, wrong, she wanted peace for once, she wanted-
She wanted her youngest child in her arms.
"It's okay mamma." Allea murmured softly, as tears bleed down both their cheeks, Jordie taking a step back to give the two of them space. "The saints will watch over Y/n I'm sure of it." She whispered.
Slap!
"No! No more talks of saints, do you hear me!" Inej screams and looks at everyone wildly, as Allea scampers away from her mother, "Never speak about them again!"
"Allea step away from your mother." Kaz's soothing voice comes out like a hand in the darkness.
Slowly, he limps over to her, he doesn't touch her, all he has to do is count a few times until her breathing is under control. Once it is, he pulls her into his arms.
"We'll find her, treasure." He whispers into her hair.
Inej grabs the hand that he's given her, pulling her out of the darkness and finally she speaks. "We will, and when we do will burn them all down."
____________
Y/n
You didn't know where you were.
You didn't know if your family was okay, you didn't know if they were alive and well, hell you didn't even know if you were.
Perhaps this is hell, maybe you died on that boat.
Often, you would look at the door and wonder if you should make a run for it, but you can't you're indentured. You could hang yourself with your silks from the ceiling.
Anything is better then living this life.
Your hand twitches at the collar around your throat but you close your eyes and you open them again to this wretched world.
Terrible, cruel, evil world. Oh, how fate must have been having the time of her life watching you suffer. You didn't want to suffer any longer.
But you are indentured and there are kids here.
It must be a pretty new pleasure house because the kids that were on the boat with you are the same ones who are here now. Most are younger than six.
You curse all the saints above that they look up to you, to them you were the closet safe adult- even parent. You whisper to yourself at night that you don't truly care for any of them, that they don't matter to you.
Yet you know that's not true, it's as true as saying Allea didn't get piss-drunk and fall off of one of your ma's ships once.
Your family, you chocked on tears as you brought your knees closer to your chest. You want your dad, you wanted your mom.
"Y/n?" A little voice mumbled among the darkness of the room you all shared.
"Yes Kai?" You questioned the little girl as she shifted closer to you before you opened your arms and let her fall into them.
"The others want a bedtime story."
Rolling your eyes fondly you called the others over.
"Come here, I know you're all awake."
Eventually, six more pairs of eyes of all different colors surrounded you, and as you gestured for them to get closer they all snuggled into your arms.
"Have I told you the story about Santka Inej yet?"
_________________
Nina
Barreling through the rest of the crows Nina panted before Inej and Kaz.
"We found them."
Kaz stands abruptly and bangs his cane on the ground. "Where?" he growls.
Nina wishes it wasn't true, that you were taken somewhere in Ravka or even Fjerda, that history didn't have to repeat itself. When she found out, she pondered why they had taken you on a boat, perhaps to throw off their tracks? She wonders why it all fell onto you, why did you get all the ugly parts when the others got all the good parts?
"They're here, in Ketterdam."
_______________
Y/n
A man yanks you by the arm, taking you out of your living quarters as he yells something in a language you don't know.
You know many languages, Suil, Kerch, Fjerdan, Ravkan, and Zemeni, there are very few well-known languages that you don't know. It had been something that scared you in the beginning, not knowing what their next move was, even now it still sent an elusive shiver down your spine.
"I don't know what you're saying!" You yell back in Kerch.
"It's okay little crow, you'll find out soon enough."
A man with blonde hair comes up from behind you and grips onto your shoulder as he plays around with a little lion toy in his other hand. You freeze in your place immediately, as you have come to know him as the boss. The man who ran this place.
"Let's get out of here, shall we?" He keeps his grip on you as he leads you out of the building.
It was as if you weren't in control of your own body, you were just a puppet for these men.
"Where are we going." You whisper as he loads you into a carriage with himself and no one else.
"As it seems from all the houses I have set up in Kerch," He begins, and you wish he would stop.
Wait you were still in Kerch?
The man continues, much to your displeasure. "This one has been the least profitable, they don't like the workers."
Probably because they were young children, you scoffed in your head. Most people who come to pleasure houses at least like their workers to be around your age, it helps clear their consciousnesses, although you're not too sure how.
Then he grins and leans down towards you, and what he says next, makes bile rise to your throat. "But they love you."
You hear it first, it's a sound you usually only hear when uncle Wylan is around, then you turn around and you see it.
The building has exploded.
There were screams ringing throughout the air, and fire everywhere and all you wanted to do was run back.
The kids, the kids.
"There are kids in there!" you screamed as you banged on the carriage doors. "Stop! Stop the horses, there are children in there!"
No one stops though, and the man across from you only laughs.
"You little crow, are going to be my prized possession, I am sure of it."
Without thinking you lunged forward. "You bastard!" You howled. "You're a fucking monster, Rollins!"
Alby Rollins doesn't even seemed fazed by all your howling and fighting, all he has to do is shove you to the ground. You crumble as soon as he does, the lack of proper care lets him over power you easily.
"Shut your whining," He slid a hand over your thigh. "I own you, you are mine." He growls, his eyes glinting with things you wish you could unsee.
You don't know what he does to you after that, you had left your body then, the only thing you could think about is what must have been the children. Even if they would have survived the initial explosion, the rubble would have eventually suffocated them.
Did Kai cry out for help, did they cry out for you?
_____________
Kaz
Kaz doesn't believe in fate.
That's what he's repeating to himself anyways, as he sees the man who's beside you.
He may not believe in fate, but this was pretty damn laughable.
It's Alby Rollins who's sitting at the table, with you, covered in black silks, your eyes are covered in kohl and there's some dark feathers that wind around your neck, and your wrists. Inevitably, to cover the chains that bound you to this place.
It's called the fucking sweet shop. Kaz felt like he was going to throw up.
All the other available clients were dressed up like candy, but not you, no this is a different kind of torture Kaz wasn't prepared for, because you're dressed like a crow. Kaz has told you, and your siblings time and time again about how it was an honor to be a crow. That crows always knew how to pick the right people, that they were strong. Now it's being used against you and him, in the worst way possible.
He was sure you'd never wanted to be called a crow again.
Nevertheless the terror doesn't take him, because he's Kaz fucking Ghafa-Brekker, and he was going to show them what happened when they fucked with his kids.
"Mr Brekker, I was hoping you'd show up tonight!" Alby clapped his hands as a smile creeped onto the man's face. "Let's get to our agreement, shall we?" He gesture's for Kaz to take a seat but he stays stubbornly standing, looking at the monster before him with a blank face.
"You said you would set Y/n free during our agreement process, so they could have a pitch in it themself'." He raised an eyebrow at the Rollins. "It's obvious you have not done so."
Alby pursues his lips before his eyes flicker something sinister behind them, behind all that sweetness that people see. Behind the facade, and out of the corner of his eye, Kaz sees you shift nervously. Though he doesn't dare to look at you directly.
"That was before my crow here broke the terms of our agreement." He says firmly as he wraps an his disgusting hands around the chain that was hiding beneath his desk and pulls you closer to him with it. His hand rests underneath your chine, as he forces you to look at him. Kaz's hands twitch on his cane and Alby grins at the thought of Kaz Brekker getting twitchy, not yet knowing the full truth
Just then a woman comes out of the shadows and puts a knife against his throat.
"If you don't release my child now, I will cut your throat." The Wraith hisses, her hands tightening around her dagger.
The demon only chuckles, even as a bead of blood trails down his neck. "What would your saints think of this one Inej Ghafa? Now that you no longer need to kill to survive?" He taunts her.
"Didn't you hear? Our mother is an extension of the saints themselves." Your sister's voice comes to hit everyone's ears, as Jordie stands beside her, a gun in hand, as she has a knife in hers.
Kaz, despite the situation couldn't be more proud of his family, for coming together, defending each other like this. Though, he would trade it all if this were to never happen, he would've traded his own freedom to make sure this never happened to you, yet he can't change what's happened. So, he has to make sure this pathetic bastard will never stand on this earth again, that he would find out how Dirtyhand's wrath would feel after years of being soothed and coddled.
Nervously, Alby looks frantically all over the room before he sighs in defeat and steps away from you.
For the first time since coming in here, Kaz lets himself properly look over you, his kid. As you walk over to his side, he sees that your eyes underneath the khol are puffy and red rimmed. While the black silks cover you more nicely that he would have originally thought, he can still see the blood that is slowly dripping from where the chains around your wrists, and neck have dug into your skin. Kaz wants to throw Alby Rollins against a wall.
Revenge, would be quicker this time, so his child wouldn't have to suffer at the hands of this man ever again.
However, because of the fact that he was distracted, just even for a second, it was a second too long.
Alby smashes his head back into Inej's face causing her to lessen her grip on her weapon slightly, but enough for him to get out of your mom's iron hold. He darts to his desk, narrowly missing a bullet that Jordie shoots and grabs a clawed knife and pulls his arm back and throws.
Leaping towards you, Kaz tries to push you out of the way, but it's too late. The claw embeds itself in your eye, and you let out a shrill scream, while crimson starts to cover your face.
Kaz takes you in his arms, and to the best of his ability tries to comfort you as Inej and Alby dance a dangerous fight with knives. The blonde only goes down when Jordie shoots him in the leg.
Immediately, Inej kicks away her fallen weapon from the first time, and seizes the demon's weapon as he stays on the ground groaning in pain. Then he's at the mother bear's mercy.
Inej
She waits for your cries to calm, therefore Kaz can join her. She knows your siblings will take care of you, but you need your father's love first, your dad's rare embrace to calm you enough. To console you, so you don't break out into a panic attack, and faint, or worse.
Inej wishes that she could be doing that for you, that she could remove your chains and sooth your tears. That she could be the mother that you deserved, that she hadn't failed you despite the fact that you were taken by the same people she's vowed to destroy.
Glancing in your direction she catches a glimpse of your figure slumped into Allea and Jordie's arms. As her husband makes his way towards his wife.
"It's time for death to take you Rollins, just like it took your father." She hisses as Kaz nods once and she lifts her dagger to carry out the killing blow.
"Wait!"
Hobbling to your parents, you stand in front of the man that took you, that took everything and more from you with a hand limply covering your eye. Even while the clawed dagger sticks out of it.
"Don't kill him." You whispered as you pluck the blade that Inej had dropped and step closer to the man.
Inej can't help but let panic engulf her for a moment as her eyes widen and lunge forward to stop you as you get closer to the man. She couldn't let him take you away from her again, she couldn't let you go down a path you wouldn't be able to come back from.
However this once the Wraith is not fast enough, neither is Dirtyhands, who dove in front of you. They both miss you by a centimeter, just one, but it's enough for you to do what you'd intended.
With force they didn't know you possessed, you sliced your blade and Inej heard two sickening thuds on the floor. Your chest heaves, your eye go awry and all she wants to do is take you into her arms.
Even if she knows you've done something terrible, possibly irredeemable, she knows that you're her kid. Her wonderful child, and nothing will ever take that away from her. She doesn't care if you killed hundred men, with the state that you are in now, she would always pull you into her loving embrace and let you cry. She can see the way your body quakes and how you blink excessively to make sure it is all real.
Inej is shaking too, shaking in fear for your soul. She hopes that they haven't molded you into their will, made you something you could never be.
Then you burst with sudden energy, and a scream of pain is heard from you as you pull the clawed dagger out of your eye and shove it down Rollin's throat.
His eyes were like saucers, wide and afraid. Gurgling, his quivering hand goes to his neck as you cut something in his mouth and he goes to scream but nothing comes out.
Releasing him, his head drops forward and his mouth opens. As it does, Inej looks on with horror as Alby's tongue rolls out of his jaw onto the floor below. Following it with her eyes she spots two other pieces of flesh on the floor and Inej quickly realizes, it his severed hands.
A dark part of her is proud, proud of you for taking initiative, proud of you for doing what you thought was right. Another part of her, is disgusted, and asks why didn't you just kill him?
"Listen carefully Rollins," Your voice pulls her out of her moral debate. "I am going to let you go, let you walk away. But if I ever hear of you in Ketterdam again, if I ever hear of you opening up an establishment anywhere in the world."
You haul him up by his collar and snarl, "I will destroy you, brick by brick."
Slowly, Inej turns her face to look upon Kaz's petrified expression.
Kaz
Kaz can't slow his breathing, not when you look like he used to.
When he was relentless, when Inej was unafraid. He thought he had officially left that all behind, behind in the depths of the barrel, now he was back and it had all been resurrected in you.
Your eye - omen's eye, getting taken - Inej being kidnapped, being put in a pleasure house - Inej being placed in one as well. Saints, he never told you about his motto when he was teen! There were more though, why did there have to be many similarities? Why did fate want to torture him so?
My crow, he thinks somberly, as he sees you with your head held high despite the tears lining your eye.
I'm sorry.

The recent pride night BS has really been bumming me out. I keep thinking back to the part of TOTI when Mike was worried about Liam coming out to the team and Liam laughs at him and mentioned how young he was when Dan and Marc came out. When you wrote that, or when you wrote YCMAL, did you think the league would be that tolerant by now? Could you have imagined then, that in 2023, there would still be zero openly gay active or retired players, teams would cancel or backtrack their pride nights, players would be openly bigoted under the guise of religion, pride night Instagram comments would be filled with openly homophonic rhetoric, etc?
The world you’ve created feels so lovingly accepting and I guess I’m curious if you thought by now life would have imitated art or if you knew it wouldn’t and this was always a fantasy.
Me too, anon. Me too.
Liam laughing it off was definitely meant to be reflective of his optimistic attitude as someone who grew up in a world with out players, and positive LGBT media representation, and other privileges he can't do anything but take for granted, because they're just...reality, as he experiences it. Mike, obviously, doesn't agree with Liam's flippancy, and doesn't have the same sunny view of things, and that's as much reflection of him growing up in a different time as it is his personality.
YCMAL 'verse definitely is a little...not utopian, I won't say that, and I'm leery of that descriptor for anything, but it is a world that's a little more...live and let live, I suppose, and the institutions are a little less rotten. That individual people can be shitty and selfish and cruel, but that, in collectively, empathy and logic and even simple 'this doesn't personally affect me in any way so I'm just going to mind my own dang business' prevails.
I know that's not how the world works. I've always known that, though boy have the last few years really driven that point down my throat, and underlined just how selfish and shitty and cruel people can be, collectively as well as individually.
The 'verse has never been meant as a complete reflection of reality, though I do intend for the characters to feel realistic (and hope I succeed). The little changes (different teams, different commissioner, different media personalities, different legacy players) have always been a signal of bigger deviations from the world we live in (okay, the no Trump as president was a LITTLE utopian of me).
I will say that when I started writing the YCMAL 'verse (the early 2010s) the world was trending in a slowly more accepting direction, and that it was, in some way, extrapolating based on that forward movement, what something COULD look like. Perhaps optimistically, but even so.
Unfortunately I think the pendulum has started to swing in the other direction; I'd like to think this is the last gasp of bigots being (rightfully) terrified that the world is leaving them behind and they're being consigned to the wrong side of the present as well as the wrong side of history, but unfortunately I've studied enough of history to recognise patterns when I see them, and this economic inequality round has landed firmly in the 'right wing populism' side of things in North America and Europe. In the words of Mark Twain, Sayer of Many Pithy Things, History never repeats itself, but it does often rhyme.
Maybe hanging out in my little sandbox, making castles is escapism. I am, as you say, writing a fantasy world -- I love the sport of hockey but the institutions that prop it up, from youth hockey up to the NHL and national team programs, have been revealed to be horrific and often criminal. It's toxic masculinity, misogyny, homophobia, racism, sexual assault, and trauma all the way down. I think we collectively face all of that enough every day, and I'm going to keep making my little love stories set in a world that isn't perfect by any means, but is a little kinder, a little less brutal than our own. It's my small contribution to the whole 'not actively making the world worse, I hope'.
Also: James Reimer can go fuck himself. Really would love it if literally any member of the media asked him how he, as a Mennonite, squares wearing Military Appreciation jerseys with the pacifism that is a core tenet of his supposed faith, but I know they won't, so, you know. At some point you just have to laugh. This absolutely merciless Beaverton article is a good way to do it.

how many kids do you think aaron wants?? and how is he more as a dad??
cw; i don't think there's any, lmk if i'm wrong!
in addition to jack, i can definitely see him wanting a few more!!! maybe 2-3? it also depends on how many you would like, but he would love love love having a big family. from what we know, aaron didn't have the best childhood and it was only him and sean, so he didn't originally plan on having a huge family; because he didn't know what that was like. and maybe with haley, they would've had maybe one more? - but who knows. but after you, that mindset changed 🥰 he decided early on he would love having as many kids as the two of you could handle, all of which shared both of your features 🥰 UGH a bunch of little hotchners running around!!!!!! aaron couldn't picture anything better than that heheh <3
i feel like his position as unit chief impacts this a bit too!! the bau is a huge family within itself, and you could call him the dad of the group. and while he'll never admit it to any of them, he loves having that title. so he wants the same at home 🥹🥰
and dad!aaron my beloved!!!!!! the most understanding and loving father ever 🥺 he would love love love all his little ones endlessly, and they would all be so. attached. to him. heheh you always tease him that he's the 'favorite' of theirs, because he can tend to let things slide at times and he can rarely ever say no to them (in attempt to make up for the time he's away on a case). but also, how can he say no to them!!! they're his babies!!!! he's a sucker for the puppy eyes (especially since they all have a mix of his and your eyes🥹) and he just wants them all to be as happy as possible 🥺 he's definitely a fair father too. if one of your children happens to be in the wrong or whatnot, he'll sit with them and have a serious, but easy to understand, relaxed talk. and when it comes to a school, sport, or life event, if he can make it, he's there. no further questions.
however he definitely feels guilty at times, because he's gone quite often, but he's found ways to maneuver through that so it doesn't feel like he's never there. he's so worried that his absence will make the babies sad 🥺 if he's on a case, no matter how busy and even if it's just in one of the conference rooms at the precinct the bau is occupying, he will make time to call home. the call can last as little as five minutes or even less, but he refuses to go more than a full day without talking to you or the kids. absolutely refuses. again, he feels guilty for not being as active in jack's life when he was younger, and he will not let history repeat itself. in addition, he doesn't spend too many late nights at the office anymore since having more kids. if he still has work to complete, he'll do it in the home office. that way he's home for homework, dinner, bedtime and he's just simply home.
heheh the kiddos love running into aaron's office while he's working to see what he's up to and to give him snuggles <333 (he's gotten very good at quickly closing up files so they don't see anything that can give them nightmares >:( ) and he loves when they do that 🥹 there's been so so many times you peek in his office to see him working with a little one snoozing quietly on his lap <333 heheh and when aaron spots you looking, he gives you the proudest and happiest lil dad smile 🥰

It won't be Donnie since you said hes in denial and i fully believe mikey, Splinter, and possibly April is gonna be the same
Raph might feel guilty and give Leo space, maybe assume its his way of coping?
Draxum would realize smth but won't confront Leo at all i'm betting, but he might take note of Leo's very rare and subtle change of behaviour
Casey jr is really a 50/50 like hes from the future maybe he can tell Leo might be possessed? But he might also think this is just what his younger sensei's behaviour is before the apocalypse happened..
Which is why in my opinion the first person to realise smth is wrong aand confront Leo about it is...
TODD
oooo draxum and casey
yeah, I do think draxum may notice the slight (and I do emphasize the word slight bc even though prime can act, they're still an alien being trying to fit in on earth) difference but not say anything. Leo doesn't like him and saying something about his change in personality that could, in actuality be a very bad case of PTSD is not gonna win him any points
and Casey Jones.... sweet sweet sweet hopeful Casey Jones. I'd think he'd notice too, but, like Donnie, he'd be so deep in denial that he'd probably be crushed by the immense pressure. in his mind, he lost his sensei bc of the kraang, and not even hours later, history almost repeated itself, and it was because of him (in his eyes, mind you)
Casey, like you said, being from a kraang apocalypse may have given him some insight as to how a possessed person might act,,,, but this is PRIME, and they're not someone(thing??) who can be categorized as just simply another kraang
todd......... fuck that's a good choice

Do you hate Shaw and Apocalypse equally or one more than another?
The X-Men Films have always created villains that could exist in real life your Senator Kellys, Trasks, William Strykers, Warren Worthington II theses motherfuckers exist. The Foxverse always tended toward realism, which isn't grimdark, it was more of mutants and a bit of advanced tech was all that was extraordinary. When compared to DC and MCU; without the distraction of aliens, other superheroes (though I got to admit Sam Ramini's spiderman could exist as it is similarly grounded; though that might just be an effect of being produced in the same decades and subject to the same trends); so mutants could be highlighted and doesn't need to justify itself as a phemameoun, so the story could focus on characters and thus be driven by them.
In a way Shaw was a twist villain, up and until that general getting exploded, again up to that point we hadn't had a true mutant villains. yes I know Magneto was the villain in X-Men, but I would the true villain US gov and the mutant registration act that forced Erik's hand.
This motherfucker could very well exist; maybe I'm just weird I took a deep dive into how and the why authoritarianism happens, read me some Robert A. Paxton; hell I even took a class on Democratic Backsliding; I'm a big fan of Hannah Arendt; so, I get the implications of his character. That's what makes him so fucking scary. I fucking hate him. Erik cannot kill this guy enough.
In my book, he's always a villain and deserves no sympathy and will be written as such.
Tumblr media
Now, moving on to Apocalypse, what I hate about him is how he is written. I'm going to restate one of my points, I've been making about his character. En Sabah Nur should have been an outside-context type villain, it was hinted in the movie, but given enough time. It would so easy to justify, not so much the Foxverse seeming to copy off of the MCU; however, XM:A was indeed a character piece despite how deluded; this movie desperately focus and a better driving core story. I liked the outcome of Charles's character specially less the journey and the repeated plot beats for both Erik, Raven; they as characters weren't moving forward and changing.
Unlike like DP which had to break its own back in the mental gymnastics to justify itself which crap storytelling in and of itself and should not be done; like if you have break your own fucking magic system in order to make your story work, go back to the drawing broad!
Anyhow, for one ancient Egyptian did erase records by defacing monuments and images of people they perceived as traitors, and being a false god would be so, so the information to uncover is not there and lost to history. Then the children of the atom mutant hypothesis has been established from First Class not that science is wrong, however the scientific community hasn't been presented with new information that contradicts or challenges their assumptions; they have to explain something that fits within the facts of the paradigm. So given that fact, they would even consider the possibility of ancient mutant existing and let alone living until the 20th century. En Sabah Nur would be as huge paradigm shift that would leave the world scrambling for answers and how to defeat him.
One of the reasons I hate DP is that nobody fucking comments on the bloodily miracle of aliens landing on Earth!
But I can't bring myself to hate on Apocalypse. How Oscar Isaac plays Apocalypse is just so fun! Soft spoken, but yet can be so over the top and hammy. Maybe its because of Oscar Isaac and how much he was wasted in this role and the god awful make up he was in that did no favors for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
En Sabah Nur could have easily won the movie and recruited so many more mutants.
Like I know I can write En Sabah Nur better than Hollywood. It could have been so cool if Sabah Nur actually challenged Charles and Erik on leadership and being good parents, where the stakes would matter like getting Mystique and Peter on his side. Isaac can pull of of soft dad roles. The writer's had the perfect set-up for Mystique and Peter, for Raven/Mystique she never asked to be the 'hero' of mutantkind nor does she believe the lie of a world that doesn't exist, ok cool turn her into a rouge or villain; with Peter, break into the Pentagon could have gotten him the attention of William Stryker where he was tortured and found out to be Erik's kid and learned about that and just felt betrayed by Charles and Erik who completely forgot about him and Sabah Nur is the one who saved him, Peter feels indebted to him. Also, Even Peters playing a villain and En Sabah Nur slotting himself in a fatherly figure to Quicksilver.
it would have been a great contrast to other X-Men villains and to Erik and Charles themselves, where it was a matter of survival and protecting other mutants and just the world. Now it so much more personal to the heroes, it challenging their philosophy, leadership and who they are, not really seen until First Class, which was more about finding who they are. Apocalypse is the mantle in which they must test themselves against, but also fight those that they love. Holy shit that would have made an amazing movie.
What I like about En Sabah Nur as a character is that I have so much creative freedom with him and I can take him in so many directions.

Well I was going to ask (🙃 - Someone to share their suffering with) for Weapon / Doe. Maybe they weren't the only one government experimented on. But you asked for someone to be nice. So how about (📚 - A bedtime story) or (🥰 - Post-nightmare cuddles) instead?
So this isn't quite a bedtime story, and Weapon definitely isn't at a place to accept cuddles yet, but it's in the same vein. It's comfort, anyhow.
CW for conditioned whumpee, 'it' as a pronoun, internalized dehumanization, unreliable narrator
Masterlist
---
The Weapon's evening was interrupted by a knock at the door. (And wasn't that a strange thing that the terrorists did. Knocking. Like they care about whether it wants them to enter.) It wasn't someone bringing dinner or retrieving the tray afterwards; that had already happened. So what could they...
The knocking came again, followed by a voice. "Weapon? It's Chloe. May I come in?"
It had taken too long to respond, and she'd had to repeat herself. Oh, it was in trouble now.
Best to not make it worse, then.
"Yes, sir," it said, angling itself towards the door from where it sat on the bed. It assumed the proper posture to greet her: palms flat on the bed, back straight, head lowered.
The door opened with a quiet groan. It heard Chloe walk, footsteps getting closer and closer until it could see her sturdy boots in its line of sight.
"Hi," she said, voice suspiciously soft.
"Hello, sir," it said promptly. "I apologize for my failure to respond to your first signal."
A beat passed.
"Oh, the knock?" she asked. "It's no big deal."
No big deal??? Failing to respond to the terrorist was no big deal??? What were they even doing? What did they want from it, to treat it in such a bizarre manner?
She continued, oblivious to its internal distress. "Anyway. I brought you a book to read. I thought you might be bored, with nothing to do in here."
She held out her arm. In the periphery of its vision, the Weapon could see that she did indeed hold a book.
"It's a history book," Chloe said. "I'm sure you've been taught history." Her tone took on an edge that made Weapon nervous.
When she spoke again, that edge was gone, leaving Weapon to wonder if it had imagined it being there in the first place. "But! Most history focuses on like, politicians and royals and stuff. All the 'important people'." It could practically hear her roll her eyes at that.
"This book focuses on what is usually ignored by history. It talks about the common people, the ones overlooked by society. The poor, the immigrants, the women. That kind of thing."
It blinked, absorbing the information she had provided. It said, "Understood, sir. What timeframe is provided for the reading of this material? Will there be testing on comprehension?"
Why are you giving me this, it doesn't ask. Weapons don't ask why.
A long moment passed before Chloe spoke again.
"This... this isn't for a test, Weapon," she said, again in that suspicious tone, the one that was far too soft for instructing a weapon on its duties. "I— well, I picked this book for a reason, but it isn't to test you on it or anything."
Please, please tell it the reason. It so desperately wants to know what their purpose is. Why are they keeping it? What are they planning?
"Um. Well, I figured that you've been taught a... a certain view of history," Chloe said haltingly, almost hesitantly. "And I'm not saying that it's wrong, but... maybe it isn't the most complete? This taught me a bunch more than I learned in school. I thought... I thought it might help you understand where we're coming from."
Oh. So it's propaganda material. They're trying to make it stray from its cause, its purpose.
"It was published a while ago—um, I think a decade? You can check the publication page—so it isn't the most current information," she said. "But it's got a really good background on how our nation came to be what it is."
Strange. It would have thought their propaganda would be up to the present day.
"And it has a bunch of primary sources, too!" she added, tone brighter.
Even stranger. It didn't know the terrorists had the budget to fake that kind of information.
"I'll just... leave it on the nightstand?" Chloe said. It almost sounded like a question. Like she was uncertain of her course of action.
"Um... I guess I'll go, then," she said after setting the book down. "You don't have to read it. We aren't forcing you. I just thought it might..."
She cut herself off. From the corner of its eye, the Weapon could see her hair flick as she shook her head.
"Yeah," she said. "Read it, don't read it, up to you. I can bring other books, too, I'll just have to check what we have. This one's mine."
"Understood, sir," the Weapon said.
Chloe sighed, sounding almost... sad. It cringed inwardly. Had that been the wrong response?
"You don't..." she said, then trailed off. "It's fine. Don't worry about it. Goodnight, Weapon."
"Goodnight, sir."
---
The Weapon held out for a while. Eventually though, it gave in to the dangerous curiosity it felt.
It read the book.

Questions abt the last day of the event because I have no reading comprehension.

What is the "truth" Alhaitham is referring to here? Granted, he's quoting something, but I digress. The true defense against nihilism? Is little decisions being the defense against nihilism the "ignorance that blinds them?" Or is the ignorance the idea that the idealist can bring happiness to all?
I could probably find the answer to this question if I did a better analysis on Kaveh. Honestly I still don't understand his mentality. I don't really get how his idealism relates to his lack of self-worth. I don't get why his idealism is a defense against coming to terms with the truth. Actually, I'm not even really sure what his "truth" is and why he doesn't want to face it. I can come up with a one-size-fits-all answer, but nothing more personalized to Kaveh's situation.
Going off of what I've seen in real life, the ignorance that blinds empaths is the belief that they can make everyone happy. But why? Hmm... Is it perhaps that they believe making others happy will bring them happiness? And to admit this isn't the case means that they have to become selfish to pursue their happiness?
But if this is the case, how would it relate to the concept of nihilism in this event, i.e. that at humanity's core, it is darkness and will continue to perpetuate darkness into infinity? I'm guessing Sachin held onto his ideals that humanity at its core was good, but continuous observations and failed experiments proved him wrong. The truth to him was that humanity could not be saved nor save itself. But how is that supposed to relate to Kaveh?
Unless it's not supposed to relate to Kaveh? Sachin assumed they were similar, but Kaveh's idealism stems from a different place than Sachin's? Aka Sachin chose wrong? Speaking of which, I never really thought of Kaveh as an empath. Bc tbh through this whole event I suppose there was supposed to be a parallel between Sachin and Kaveh, but I didn't really see one and perhaps that was the point? They're both idealists yet still very different. Their cores are different. None of Kaveh's issues stem from empathy. They seem from guilt.
But that doesn't answer my original question. What does "truth" and "ignorance" refer to? Granted, they made it clear that there is no one truth in the event. People's truths can be different. So then what's the ignorance? This quote seems to be in support of Sachin than pointing out his flaw. He got rid of his ignorance which brought him to his version of the truth. So is this quote supposed to be an argument? A support? Or is it just... an observation? Probably the latter?
I think my issue with this whole thing is that I'm trying to understand this under the assumption that Kaveh parallels Sachin. Which... I really don't think he does in the slightest. And because of this, my base that I was trying to build my understanding upon was flawed from the very start.
Anyway
Tumblr media
Are they actually disagreeing about anything here? I'm guessing Alhaitham is basically saying that history will repeat itself. But Kaveh doesn't necessarily say that it absolutely will not. Kaveh's responses contain no absolutes. And if Kaveh does admit it's a possibility by not using absolutes, why is he rejecting Alhaitham's viewpoint? I'm guessing this is just pitting Kaveh's idealism vs Alhaitham's realism? But what's so wrong about admitting that Alhaitham's right? What does this have to do with standing by his views?
And then it goes back to wiping away ignorance so one can face the truth. I don't get it. I don't get Kaveh. I get how guilt relates to him trying to help people and being unable to accept good will. But what does that have to do with ideals? Actually what even are his ideals exactly? Mentally I keep switching in "optimism" for "idealism" and maybe that's my fault?
Okay let's break it down then. We know from Alhaitham that Kaveh's idealism comes from his inescapable sense of guilt. Guilt over what? Guilt over (what he perceives to be) causing his father's death and ruining his mother's happiness. Because of this, he feels he deserves to be punished. Hmm.... So that means he subconsciously knows that his idealism is the source of his problems. But in admitting this, it would be admitting that he's purposefully idealistic to punish himself. And he doesn't want to admit it because this pain is comforting and numbs his sense of guilt. To admit his idealism is a problem would be the same as yanking his security blanket from his hands and throwing it into a fire.
....
Tbh I think I already knew all of this, even explained it to someone once, but the difference between then and now is that now I can see everything concretely instead of just going off of intuition haha.

Nlskjdskjskj Jjksjjskjd Kksdskj, JLjdskdsk.
I am being tormented with messages, the only question is from where. And also what they mean. And also from who. Okay so maybe there's more than one question but I think everyone's used to that at this point
(got a little long so cut for space)
this message seems different from the last, a lot of repetition of the same letters more severely. but there's also greater letter diversity, so that might mean something. Okay if we just focus on the letters used there's: n, L, s, k, j, and d. But those don't spell anything because we are tragically missing vowels--unless that's the point? Vowels are pretty critical to the flow of a word, so perhaps this is a message. You're trying to communicate something that doesn't flow--dirt? solid lava? what's the opposite of flow. stagnant. stuck. are you trying to tell me you're stuck? because I gotta admit I don't think I'd be much help in that situation I can only really send you words across the internet. unless this is a stranger things situation and you've actually been taken captive/are being held prisoner and you are "stuck," in which case you're reaching out to me as your last hope--which I gotta say I'm flattered, but are you sure you trust me with that responsibility?
then again maybe you're not trying to communicate that you're stuck and I'm approaching this all wrong. You've used what appears to be proper grammar for the most part (in terms of english at least) with capitalization and a comma and period. So perhaps each of these four nonsense words actually isn't nonsense, but is it's own word and I just need to figure out what. Okay so. Nlskjdskjskj. The letter n is used once, l once, s thrice, k thrice, k thrice, d once, and s twice. That becomes 1133312, which correlate to the letters aacccab...which spells out acab but really long. I support your message Nonsie I just think you could've said that more concisely.
Then jjksjjskjd. if we use the same approach here (i'll save you reading it) we'll get 4221, which would become dbba, however that seems meaningless. So perhaps it's supposed to be approached differently. Okay so the if each letter of the alphabet is assigned a number then j is 10, k is 11, s is 19, and d is 4. That makes the number 1010111910101911104. Putting that in a binary number translator you get the letter W, but binary is only 1s and zeros so when you delete all excess numbers it becomes 꽞. Which google translate tells me is a meaningless character but another translator tells me means "tight." so could that be the second word? tight?
so we move on to kksdskj. we'll start out the same with 3 k's, 2 s's, 1 d, and 1 j. 3211 makes cbaa, which rearranged also means acab but we've already said that so I think there's probably a different meaning. if we alphabetize it we get djkkks. this next one is going to be a bit of a reach but I'm trying to make meaning out of nonsense so there are no rules. when alphabetized the word looks like diks if you ignore the repeating letters, and you know what that could allude too? dik-diks. the animal. Perhaps this is asking me to rely on my colloquial knowledge of internet history and the whole "dik-dik, pronounced xylophone" thing. In which case this third word could mean xylophone. Or! If we look at the word in the djkkks stage, you'll notice that only one letter repeats: k. how many times does it repeat? 3. what letter is associated with three? c. so with the visual similarity between j and i, and the k's repetition possibly being a hint to add in another letter, the word could be dicks.
then we get to the last word, jljdskdsk. the first thing I notice about this collection of the letters is the repetitive arrangement. jlj. dskdsk. lot of repetition here. looking for patterns. it is a pattern, but what about this does it want me to pay attention to? is the word itself pattern? that seems simple, but sometimes simple is the solution. then again the repetition is easily noticed when spoken aloud, so perhaps I should write out the phonetics of the letters. dʒeɪ ɛl dʒeɪ di ess keɪ di ess keɪ. hmm. I'm not sure if this helps. though if I use only the unique characters that aren't letters of the english alphabet fromt hat, it becomes ʒɪɛʒɪɪ. Once again there's a pattern here with the 3. two of the symbols look like a three, the i-like symbol is used three times, and the third symbol used is like a backwards three. So I'm thinking rule of three things here are applying. the word must be related. third? thrice? or triangle?
okay this is only one of several ways to look at the message you've presented me, but my current conclusion/interpretation is "acab tight dicks, triangle." While this is seemingly a nonsense message, if we read between the lines I think it's trying to say that the police force (acab) itself is a tight (tight) knit circle of unpleasant, unsavory, and downright horrible people (dicks) who are supporting each other within their circle in order to stay strong and impervious as a unit (triangle, the strongest shape), and that are such all cops are bastards and the system itself supports people undeserving of that protection.
or were you trying to say something else?

Remember this: hockey gods are watching. They have seen that New York team get away with a win by injuring our best player. History will repeat itself and favor to those who played clean and square. Look at what happened to Vegas in the first rd of 2019, the Caps with Niskanen in 2017, the Sharks and the hand pass OT winner in 2019, so many dirty plays that led to eventual payback from the hockey gods. Don't forget the 2021 Islanders too, it was deflating to see them go all the way to the ECF again after seeing how much they lucked out with their dirty plays, and they got the ultimate karma in Game 7 of the ECF (even though I wasn't rooting for either team in that series). If you can only win in the playoffs by injuring other players, the hockey gods will laugh at you and give you that rude awakening eventually. I strongly believe Game 6 is the perfect revenge game for us. We will get through this. Critics can doubt us one more time, the Pens will prove them wrong once again.

i hope you're right. i hope ricky and tristan are back and both contributing in peak form, whether or not sid is playing, and we send the rangers home to start their summer early and get some time to rest. i hope sid's issue is just precautionary.
i'll be fully honest: i came into this series expecting the rangers to take it in five, maybe six. the penguins have far exceeded my hopes for them. the problem, of course, is they got me excited in the meantime, about what might come still, and that's what gets you in the end.
if sid is out and geno plays like the elite 1C he is, instead of taking stupid penalties...if they continue to play responsible defense and get to the rangers' net and clean up the rebounds, if we keep them away from louis if he's still playing...if if if. there's a lot of 'if's there.
there are a lot of 'if's for the rangers too, of course. but they saw what worked to shake the pens and throw them off, and i'm worried they'll do it again, maybe worse.
i don't want friday to be the last time we see geno in a home jersey for the penguins. i honestly do not know what i'll do if he's not re-signed. i want them to w*n and take the series and keep going, and i want him extended, and i want the team to continue through the postseason healthy, without having to scramble and hope and pray that the other team doesn't decide to act like a bunch of scumbags.
and, as always, i'm worried about sid. every time he goes down with a concussion, i worry it's the last time we'll have seen him play. it makes me physically ill to contemplate. the fact that some no-name fourth-line dickwad could potentially end a career like his because his coach said their team was 'soft' after getting humiliated two games in a row? it's a joke. it's garbage and a joke and it's embarrassing for the league, who does nothing to protect its stars—not sid, not geno, not nate, not connor mcdavid, none of them.
i just feel sick at heart about this all and it's hard to feel hopeful right now, when we have no news beyond 'still being evaluated'.
this isn't my usual thing on here but. i dunno. i can't muster up a lot of positivity right now.

Can I love again? [a Roman Reigns story]
4 Issues
I think it was safe to say that I haven't slept this well in a long time. Somehow hearing Roman's heartbeat actually helped me relax and fall asleep.
Since that first time, he now insisted on sitting next to me whenever we were traveling to a new city and helping me get much needed sleep. And even though we were just two strangers, it was probably the nicest thing anyone had done for me in a long time. I didn't even care what the others backstage thought of it. I was just very grateful to Roman.
And yet, at the same time, I also felt very guilty every time. As if I would do something wrong. Deep inside I knew that it wasn't like that, but still I couldn't resist this feeling of guilt.
Time passed and Roman and I talked more and spent some time together backstage. I liked him a lot and I felt that he liked me too. But was I ready to open up? Was I ready to tell him what happened back then? I knew that if we were to get closer, there would come a time when I could no longer keep it to myself. But just the thought of it made my throat tighten and tears welled up in my eyes.
Maybe I would never be ready again. Maybe I just had to accept that I was destined to go through life alone. This thought hurt, but it was still better than risking history repeating itself.
Lost in thought, I played with the things hanging from my necklace. I tried to sort through my thoughts. Dr. Grayson said that only I could know if and when I was ready. That wasn't helpful either. Why couldn't he just tell me if I was ready?
"Hey Y/N! Are you doing okay? A penny for your thoughts." I suddenly heard Roman say behind me.
I quickly hid my necklace behind the collar of my shirt and cleared my throat as I turned to face him. He smiled broadly, but I knew by now that he was worried about me. He was such a kind, sensitive man. Instinctively, he sensed that I wasn't telling him everything that was going through my mind.
"Oh, hello Roman. It's nothing. I'm just worried about the looks for the next PPV. How can I help you?" I replied, hoping to change the subject.
"Okay, whenever you're ready. I actually just wanted to know if you wanted to join us at the club tonight. Since we're staying in town overnight, it's the perfect opportunity." he said, standing in front of me so he could look deep into my eyes.
"I don't know if that's a good idea," I said, lowering my head.
"I think it might do you some good to spend some time with all of us outside of work, angel. Because whatever's going on in your head, you need a break from it." he replied, resting his big hands on my upper arms and rubbing them soothingly.
"You're probably right. All right, I'll go with you, but I won't promise that I'll like it." I gave in.
"Perfect. I'll see you later." he beamed and gave me a quick hug before disappearing again.
Hopefully Roman was right and it would be good for me to come out of my shell a little.
-------
"I'm going to get something to drink. What can I get you, angel? Wine? A cocktail? Beer?" he asked when we were in the club for a few minutes.
"Oh um... I'd just like an orange juice, thanks." I replied after a moment's hesitation.
"You don't want a drink? Why not?" he asked in surprise.
"The correct way to respond when someone doesn't want alcohol is. 'What else can I get you?' and not 'Why not?'" I said a little harshly.
"I'm sorry. I'll get you your juice. I'll be right back." Roman replied and then disappeared in the direction of the bar while I sat down with the other colleagues who had also come along.
I took a deep breath and tried to get my emotions back under control.
"Roman, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have snapped at you like that. Please forgive me." I said as soon as he sat down next to me with the beverages.
"Apology accepted. I guess I hit a nerve. Do you want to tell me what's going on or would you prefer for me to change the subject?" he replied and I could tell he was a little hurt.
"I don't drink alcohol. I should have told you that," I explained to him.
"Oh... Does that mean you used to have issues with it or something?" he wanted to know.
I sighed heavily and then thought briefly but very carefully about my answer. Hopefully I wasn't saying too much now.
"No, I've never had any issues with it. It's just... I just know that if I start drinking now.... it would numb me and I would like it... and then I'll probably never stop drinking again. That's something I'd rather avoid." I explained to him, but didn't know if it made any sense at all.
Immediately my thoughts wandered back and hot tears came to my eyes. I swallowed and tried to breathe deeply, but I couldn't.
"Hey... it's okay. It's all good. I'm with you. You're not alone." said Roman as he looked at me searchingly.
He put an arm around my waist and pulled me close, but that only made it a lot worse. My chest tightened painfully.
"I have to get out of here. I'm going back to the hotel. I'll see you tomorrow." I said quickly, breaking away from him.
"Wait, Y/N. I'll go with you." he said immediately and got up to follow me.
"No. Please don't. I need to be alone now. See you tomorrow." I replied and hurried to get out of here.
Suddenly everything was too much again. I was overwhelmed. And in this situation I had to withdraw from everything and everyone. That was the only way I could get a grip on myself. It had probably not been a good idea to come here after all.
