how they love you
(ft. satoru gojo, suguru geto, kento nanami, megumi fushiguro, yuji itadori)
author's note: requests are open <3 some lil' drabbles for our boys while i work on smau. also this is just my opinion so if you disagree then cope pls.
warnings: none, i think? maybe some suggestiveness
Satoru Gojo is a passionate lover. He loves you proudly and without reservation. Declarations made without fear, love expressed without hesitation. The type of man to stand outside of your house with a 70s boombox in the rain. Cheesy pickup lines despite being together for years. A new dress and matching jewelry on silk sheets for your weekly date night. No gift is too pricey, no public display of affection too crass to be bestowed upon the person he loves most.
"Did you see her? That's my wife!"
"Let's play titanic: you be the iceberg and I'll go down--ow! I'm sorry. Not really, though. Love you, pumpkin."
"We're going to Bora Bora for the weekend. No, you don't get to argue. Get your ass in the car."
Suguru Geto is a devoted lover. Heart-eyes from the moment you graced him with your presence. Adoring gazes from afar. Committing every inch of you into his memory. Studying the complex puzzle that is your mind, and solving it with every word out of your mouth. Your conversations are religious text, your body an altar at which he will always worship.
"What am I staring at? Just you."
"Tell me again. Yes, from the beginning. I want to hear it all."
"You're not boring me. I love hearing you talk."
Kento Nanami is an understanding lover. Knowing what you need before the words ever leave your mouth. Having your daily rituals memorized. Reminding you to drink water. A homecooked meal while you talk about your day. A fresh vase of flowers on the counter every Thursday. Rushed kisses shared in the morning before heading off to work. Comfortable silence. A beacon of stability in a world that is chaotic.
"Laundry is already done. Come sit with me."
"I bought more of that perfume you like. I saw you were running low."
"I love who you are now, and I will love the person that you become."
Megumi Fushiguro is a quiet lover. Pinkies intertwined as you walk to your favorite cafe. Sharing earbuds on the subway. Leaving his sweaters at your house, and loving the sight of you wearing them. Sharing his food with you. Holding your shopping bags. Halfhearted glares when you try to foot the bill. Shushing your rambling with a kiss. Telling you he loves you without directly saying the words.
"I bought this yesterday. It made me think of you."
"You mean everything to me, y'know?"
"I think you should keep it. It looks better on you."
Yuji Itadori is a doting lover. A golden retriever in human form. Hugs from behind, kisses on your shoulder. Holding things out of your reach, and a kiss being the ransom. Grinning whenever you enter the room. Talking about you even when you aren't around. Pictures taken in your sleep. Very cuddly. Could likely be compared to a koala hanging onto a tree. (You are his tree.)
"You look very pretty today."
"Have I ever told you how much I love you? Well I'm telling you again."
"She's perfect. Did you know she likes--oh. Sorry, Gojo-sensei."

A/N: Well... Okay. There's a few things you need to know about this piece of work you're about to read. This is actually a part of my series that I'm writing on Wattpad. I will put the link below in case you want to read the whole thing. It's not finished, I'm still writing it. This chapter, however, can be a standalone and can be viewed as a one-shot, so I decided to post it here, too. I wish you an enjoyable reading. Oh, and this is not read through, so if you find some mistakes, pretend that you didn't.

Tumblr media
Spencer Reid. A man known for several things. His knowledge. A brilliant man, whom the FBI owes many thanks. Uncountable cases that he helped solve that would probably stay unsolved without him. His blabbering. He had a whole paragraph ready to shout out on anything you say. The sky? Fun fact... The book you're looking at? Fun fact, the author actually... A specific person who's dead or alive or never surfaced for something they did? Fun fact about them...
You will never see him wear anything outside of professional clothes. Comfortable professional clothes. Sweaters, cardigans. He sometimes reminds me of older women who wrap themselves in their cardigans. You will never hear him swear. Not in public, anyway. The most he said once was goddamn it. The entire team was left in shock. Penelope was even scared of him that day.
He will stutter in conversations and situations that make him even slightly uncomfortable. He has a germ thing. He never shakes hands or hugs with random people. He makes contact with his friends, me, and some close people like his mother, Diane.
Now put all that into an image and try to picture that man. A shy, uncomfortable, boyish man. Stuck reading books when he has free time. No, no. He cancels plans to stay indoors and read books. Even re-read them.
That same man proposed to me half an hour ago. It was small, intimate, and sentimental. We walked by the restaurant where we confessed we loved each other. He let my hand go and I took a few steps ahead. When I turned back, he was down on one knee and held a small box in his hands.
I said yes.
I said yes more than once.
He was the sweetest man. He was mine. I loved to be loved by him. Delicate, heartwarming, caring and sweet. The man I just described above.
That same man was driving us home at the moment, his dick hard, bulging in his pants, one hand or the wheel, the other deep in my cunt while curving his knuckles at a new angle as he fucked me.
Every person has two sides.
And boy, oh boy, did I love his other side.
Everything anyone knew about Spencer, they would say he would be a sweet, whiney, submissive man during intimacy. I beg to differ.
His fingers twirling inside me, I huff as I refuse to moan just yet. I hated the way he could make me fold so, so easily. Deep breaths. Deep breaths. My mouth is open and I can't hold in pleads from him. His fingers are long. I love his fingers. But his cock is bigger.
He pulls into our parking space and he removes his hand from under my dress. He walks out and comes around to open my door. I begin to come out when he stops me, picks me up and tosses me over his shoulder. I yelp, feeling almost powerless. He slams the door and locks the car and continues to carry me up almost three flights of stairs. The apartment door flies open before we go in. He closes it with his leg and heads directly to our bedroom.
I can't help but blush. I felt like a tiny girl. How disgusting that the tiny girl imagined all the things he would do to her in a few moments. He slides me down and steps back to look at me. His eyes scan me, from the smallest hair on the top of my head all the way down to my toes. There's a devilish desire in his eyes, his mouth parted ever so slightly. His eyes come back to mine and he, almost growling, says, "I kneeled for you, now go ahead and kneel for me."
Tingles run down my entire body. I don't hesitate to obligate his request. Not a request. He demanded. And I wasn't going to defy this. I wasn't going to defy him. Not breaking eye contact, I slide down on my knees, perfectly aligned with his belt. I look ahead, seeing him painfully hard in his pants. I slide my hands up his legs and start undoing his pants. Every clank makes me tingle between my legs.
There was a specific time when a powerful, strong and independent woman only wants, no, only needs to be told what to do. I raised myself from nothing. No one helped me. I could only thank myself for everything I have accomplished in my life. I would listen to no man. No man had the power over me. No man could take nothing from me. Except him. He had all of me wrapped around his little finger.
And I didn't mind.
Being submissive to someone means so much more then people think. It means trust. It means love. Truth be told, not every submissive person tends to be like that in everyday life. Don't get me wrong, I know what comes to mind when you think of someone like that. Porn taught us so wrongly. And this? This was so much more intimate then just porn. This was desire, lust, and pure neediness.
After undoing his belt, I pulled down his pants, tugging his underwear to, removing them to. I would skip everything just to feel him. Being released from his clothes was hitting him sweetly as he took a sharp breath when my eyes fell to his dick.
I look up, almost lustful, maybe waiting for him to tell me to touch him, maybe even to beg me, a whole 180 to what I just described myself as. His eyes were dark and watching me from a high. He simply smirked, almost reading my mind and what was going through it.
"Go on," he half whispered, voice deep just like the darkness around us, "be the slut the outside world has no idea you are."
And that was all it took. My hand takes his base before I stick out my tongue and slide it up his entire length. There was a lot of length. He inhales, pushing a groan down his throat at the first touch I plant on him.
This was going to be a long night.
The kiss I leave at his tip as I start stroking him with my hand sends his head falling back. The motion pushes his curls off of his forehead. I loved when his hair fell on his face. It made him look messy. It made him look more flustered. And the image of him like that made me throb between my legs.
After enough slow-play, I stick out my tongue and take him in my mouth, slowly, reaching as far as I could before I feel him touch my throat. He feels he reached far and he groans. The funny thing is I had taken only half of him. He looks down again, his hairs flying back to his face. His fingers twist around in my hair and tug slightly, almost like he was checking the grip he had on my head.
But I soon found out it wasn't the grip why I thought he wanted it. He held my head in place as he started to rock back and forth. He was using me. Using my mouth to be precise. And he started fucking it. At first it was slow, almost shallow thrusts, reaching where he first did. But as time passed, he became more fierce. He started going deeper, hitting the back of my throat with more force making me gag. My eyes started to water as I had no control over anything. His hand held my head in place as he now almost pounded into my mouth.
As he continued, I could feel him twitch on the top of my mouth. And so did I. I felt my panties dampen with every second that passed. I was horny because my boyfriend, my fiancé, was fucking my throat like it was just something for him to use.
Muffled moans and occasional groans escaped his mouth. He was about to finish. I could easily tell by the increased speed of his thrusts and their force. Finally, he pushed himself almost the whole way, deep into my throat and let himself release there. I gagged pretty hard, trying to keep him down and not throw out his cum.
He pulled himself out and let go of his grip on my hair. His hand slid from behind to my chin and he lifted my face up. He was taking deep and long breaths, his chest falling and rising every time. His eyes scanned me, a fucked mouth, watery eyes and bright red cheeks. Must have been quite a sight.
"Swallow, baby." he said and left his mouth slightly opened, watching as the small bulb went down my throat and he smiled in satisfaction. "Good girl. Your turn."
He bent down and picked me up to carry me to the bed. Back facing the mattress, he climbed on top and roughly kissed me. I loved when he did that. After what I just did, he didn't hesitate to kiss me. He didn't get disgusted to do so. His fingers hooked around the hem of my dress and he pulled it off in one quick motion. I was left in my bra and panties that were already soaking wet. Every time he saw me like that, dressed but not dressed, I'd get shy.
I never liked my body. And yet he worshipped it.
"God, you're so gorgeous." he hovered over me, his eyes trailing over every inch of my body. I shivered from his words that sounded like a prayer. It was half whispers. Like he was afraid that if someone heard what he had, it would be stolen from him.
His lips come down and start kissing my neck, my weak spot. Just the warmth of his kiss makes me moan, eager for more as I buck my hips up towards him. I feel that I caress his cock against my thigh, and as soon as he feels it, he pushes my hips down with his hands.
"Needy, are we?" he chuckles against my skin as he now slowly moves lower and leaves a trail of kisses at my collarbone.
"I hate when you do this." I whine, my fingers roaming through his hair.
"You hate when I kiss you?" he says between kisses, one on my shoulder, one at the base of my neck, one directly in between my breasts.
"No, I-" my words get interrupted when I moan. I feel him smile when he hears me. "I hate when you make me wait. You tease. Every time." I take a deep breath in between every sentence to take in his kisses. As much as I did hate the delay of the actual sex, I loved feeling him everywhere. I didn't know what I wanted more.
He continues kissing, his lips reaching my stomach and he stops. I look down to see him slightly smirking as he is settled just between my legs. I feel shivers. He lets go of my hips and slowly pulls down my panties, sliding his fingers down along my legs in the process. He is continuing to tease me with every touch he leaves on my body.
When I finally think that he is going to stick his tongue at my cunt, I am yet again met with disappointment. He comes over me and trails his hands, slowly, around my back as he keeps looking me in the eyes to catch every whiney face I make as I plead him to fuck me already using no words. But he knows. Oh, he knows that's what I'm asking of him.
He unhooks my bra and I am completely naked. His shirt comes off as he makes us even. Again, I hope that he will now go down. It doesn't have to be his mouth, I'll be happy if he would just stick his fucking fingers into my pussy and rummage through it. But, no. He bends down and kisses my breasts, moving from one to the other. Kissing it, sucking on the nipples, squeezing them with his hands.
If he was kissing and/or sucking the right he would be squeezing the left. There was no space left for me to catch a breath. Then, he bit down on one, just enough to make me squeal. He chuckled with my tit in his mouth. I had enough. I gripped his hair and pulled him up to my face.
"What do you fucking want from me?" I say with a whiney voice. I sounded desperate. I hated it. I loved it, too.
His face had a drunk smile across it. He was enjoying this. My torture was satisfaction for him. Fucking great. "I want you to beg." he said through a whisper. His head was tilted back as I was pulling his hair.
I hated to beg him. Especially to do what I wanted. I knew he knows what I want, but he loves when he makes me break and I have nothing left but to fucking beg him to do the most unholy things to me.
I roll my eyes. "No." I simply say.
He smirks and bucks his hips so his dick slides over my dripping cunt. My entire body arches and he smiles again. "Beg, my love. Use that mouth for something else then a place for me to dump my cum."
That mother fucker. "You assh-" he bucks his hips again and breaks me mid-sentence. I growl at him.
"I don't think that's how begging works. C'mon. Beg me to fuck you. I know you want to."
It was weird hearing him swear. Not just swear, but use vulgar words in general. I used them everyday. It was like saying 'hi' to someone. But Spencer? Noup.
I gave up. I close my eyes and just make peace with my fate. "Please, Spencer."
He bends down and kisses my lips. "You have to be specific, my love. What do you want from me?"
I'm boiling at this point. Do I have a choice? If I want to be fucked, not really. "I want you to fuck me, please me, make me cum. I'm fucking tired of being teased." I practically cry out the last part.
He smirks and I let go of my grip on his hair. He doesn't move, he is still looking me directly in the eyes as he slides one hand down and caresses my inner thigh. He goes over my cunt with his entire hand and I loudly gasp. He watches, enjoys the reactions he gets as he touches me. He brings his hand up and licks his two fingers and then slides them down again.
Baby, you don't need no more moisture, I'm wet enough.
His hand finally connects to my core and he starts making circles around my clit. My body erupts. I no longer have control over my reactions. My eyebrows furrow, my mouth is wide open and it's letting out moans, whines, sounds I didn't even know I could make. And he simply watches. From time to time he would bend down and kiss my neck, maybe even bite down on it, making me buck my entire body up.
"God, you're so fucking wet." he says and starts rubbing up and down my entrance. "You're so pretty. My pretty girl."
I'm melting. Melting into his sinister hands that are touching me in the most horrid ways. And I wouldn't stop him even in a million fucking years.
He slides the fingers in, gently, slowly, caringly. I let out a loud moan, slapping my mouth after I do. Just as I did, his other hand takes my wrist and pulls it off. Holding it, he collects my other hand and pins both of them above my head. "Why would you do that?" he asks. But I don't answer, it's a rhetorical question. "You sound so beautiful when you moan for me. You sound so pretty."
His knuckles are now buried deep inside my pussy and he starts to pump them in and out. When he slides them back in, his thumb hits my clit and he curls his fingers inside just enough to hit that little spot. Every movement he made was followed by that wet sound. I just knew his fingers were drowning in my arousal, and I just knew he was so eager to put his cock inside there too.
He kisses my jaw, my neck, my cheeks. He is enjoying this. Pleasuring someone you truly love is pleasure to you as well. His other hand in on my thigh, pulling it away so he has better access and can slide in deeper then he usually could. In between my own sounds, I can hear him groan whenever I jerk my hips upward and slightly stoke him against my leg.
I want more. Now, I'm just desperate because I don't want to finish now. I want to cum over his cock while he is buried all the way inside. I want him to see that little blub in my stomach appear and disappear as he fucks me.
Like on cue, as if he heard me, he pulls his hand away and climbs the bed again. Pushing my legs fully apart, he aligns himself at my entrance. He pushes, but purposefully jerks himself up so he slides against my clit. I see him place himself on my abdomen as if he is looking how far he goes when he's inside.
"Look at how deep I can bury myself in you, love." he admires and glides his fingers over my skin. He pulls back and leans over to the drawer next to our bed. For a moment he rummages through it. "Shit."
I look over, trying to figure out what was going on. "What is it?"
He pauses and looks at me. "We don't have any condoms."
Well shit.
But I put on my big girl face. "And?"
He looks slightly surprised by my reaction. "No protection?"
I shrug. "What's the worst that can happen?" I smirk, moving myself lower on the bed and connecting myself with him. He really was hard.
He says nothing and just enters. He pushes in with quite a bit of force. I let out a quiet scream at his motion. I still needed time to adjust to his length. But he didn't care. He was already in full force, starting to pick up the pace of his thrusts. His hands go down and wrap around my hips and he uses them to pull me on himself as he continues to pound me.
The room is filled with my whines and moans, the sounds of our hips connecting and slamming against each other, and his groans. I love when he groans. I know he feels good. I make him feel good.
"You're so tight. It's so warm inside." he says through rough groans.
His fingers are diving inside the skin of my hips. I feel pain as he squeezes them. I push the feeling away, I even don't have to. The feeling of his dick hitting my deepest point is strong enough to push it away almost instantly.
The repetitive slamming into me lures my finish to approach. It's forming in my gut and I feel it slowly coming as he continues fucking me mercilessly, rough and fast thrusts.
"I'm gonna cum- Oh, God, Spence." I saw, although I'm not sure how I managed to.
Just as I said that, I felt my climax get at its highest point, and I was about to finish-
He pulls out.
What the fuck?!
"Wha- what are you doing?" I stutter, the high still in the air but it's fading away.
He looks down and has a wicked smile on his face. His cheeks are deep red and his hair is damp from his sweat. "I'm not done with you. Turn around."
I'm mad. Furious. I want to defy him so badly, I want to say 'no', maybe even flip him off. But I want to finish. I was just about to. So I do as I'm told. I prompt myself up and turn around and stand on all fours on the bed. Might I add that this is my favorite position.
I expect him to align himself again and continue to thrust like he did, but he gets off the bed and walks over to the corner of the room. The corner where he keeps his bag for work. I hear a clank before he walks back behind me. He places his hand on my upper back and slightly pushes, indicating for me to lower myself even more. My face and chest lay on the mattress. My ass is now the only thing in the air.
This position gives him more access. I am ready for it to hurt before I can adjust myself to his length again at this angle. Yet again, I don't get what I'm expecting. He takes my wrist and places it behind my back, then the other and connects it with my other one. I hear that clank again. He takes one of my wrists again and puts the metal around it.
It's his fucking cuffs.
He puts his cuffs on and thugs on the chain between them to pull my arms back. He pulls so much that I have to lift myself slightly off the bed. I tremble. Out of excitement. Our of slight fear. Out of horniness, simply.
I feel him bend down and kiss my back. He knows I love that. It feels very intimate to me. He kisses down my spine and then slaps my ass. I yelp, not just by the sudden contact, but also because he slapped it pretty hardly. Not enough to leave a bruise, but it will definitely go red in a few seconds.
"You ready?"
There are certain points in our sex life when he asks, or even simply warns to hold on tight to anything. Since I was obviously restrained, he's asking. That is enough to know this was going to be really good.
"Yeah." I whisper, my face buried back into our bed.
"You know I love you, right?" he whispers again and pushes his tip into my cunt.
My breath trembles since I was still sensitive from the high I missed a few minutes ago. "I know."
"Good. Because for the next few minutes it might not look like I do."
He didn't give me time to respond. He slammed himself inside, making me scream out. This was enough for the neighbors to hear. He started thrusting. I still wasn't adjusted to this position, and his cock was hitting from a new angle that allowed much better access. I felt pain. But, God, was it good. My eyes started watering from the pain as I couldn't take it. I prayed that my pussy would stretch just slightly so I could take him a bit easier.
After a short while, I did. The slight pain was still there. It couldn't really go away from the force he was driving himself in. And then it happened. He slapped my ass again. It was a strong slap. His hand was big enough to cover my entire cheek. I yelp at the sudden pain.
As he continues to thrust, I feel him occasionally twitch. That can mean only one thing. He is about to cum again. Just when I realize that, he speeds up. He pulls on the cuffs and makes me get up from the bed. He's pulling hard enough to hold me in the air.
He hits again, going back to squeeze after. I feel the slight burn of his slaps. Another one connects to my skin and with it I feel that high again. I don't want it to escape again, so I bend slightly so he feels me letting him slide even deeper.
Spencer quickly realizes what I'm trying to tell him, but there's not much left before I feel him hammer himself once, then again, just as I feel my climax release. I scream out, and I feel him empty himself inside.
It takes him a few seconds to calm down before he lets me fall down on the bed again. I'm a fucking mess. He takes off the cuffs and places my hands on my sides before he bends down and removes my hair from the back of my neck and kisses in that spot.
"My perfect girl." he cooed. "You're so fucking special."
I breathe deeply. "Well..." I begin as he lays down next to me. "That was fun." I feel his cum drip down out of my cunt.
He chortles. "That's one way to put it."
I was about to marry this man. I loved every inch of him. Every version there was of him. There was nothing that could take that away from me.

Kicking out
Rhysand x reader
Summary: Reader tries to have a peaceful day without their partner hovering with overprotection, but destiny has other plans.
Warnings: Pregnancy, mentions of body aches, Rhysand being an overly protective rooster. Ignore any biological errors; I've never been pregnant and have no background in any health-related field, so everything here is either from my imagination or a quick Google search.
Autor's Note: This is my first time posting here, and I'm anxious and very, very nervous (especially because it's the first time I've written in a long time). I don't know if I like this or not, but this idea has been lingering in my head for days. Maybe I'll do a part two, but I'm not sure. Please, I welcome any kind of feedback here! (but be careful with how you say it). I apologize if the grammar is... bad? English is not my first language, and I'm not fluent (much of this had help from AI for translation, so if something doesn't make sense or is placed incorrectly, please let me know so I can correct it).
Tumblr media
It's the beginning of fall, all you wanted to do was sit on the expensive and cozy sofa decorating the House of Wind and read a soft and cliché romance book while sipping on a cup of hot coffee. Except, you couldn't consume caffeine for the sake of the baby growing in your belly. Still, you had the option to sit and read a book, but your large and exuberant belly prevented you from sitting comfortably for too long. Well, nothing a few pillows and a blanket couldn't solve. Okay then, you didn't have coffee or a comfortable position, but you could still read your book, right?
Well, no, you've been trying to do that since the early afternoon when you sent Rhysand to his office, asking him to work a bit in his own court instead of watching over you. In fact, he had been a mother hen since the beginning of the pregnancy, and that was just one of the excuses you gave to get rid of his overprotectiveness. But it was becoming a challenging mission to concentrate on reading. You're nearing the end of your pregnancy, which is exciting in part, with the anticipation of meeting your little one consuming you, but the discomfort of carrying a baby constantly kicking your ribs has proven quite persistent.
It's been more than five minutes since you were stuck on the same page, reading and rereading but unable to focus on the book, back pain and intermittent cramps stealing all your concentration. You were used to a slight discomfort in your back since the beginning of the second trimester, but today, in particular, it was more of a significant and noticeable discomfort. You sighed in frustration and decided that maybe eating something would help. Putting the book aside, you remove the blanket from over you and swing your legs out of the sofa, prepared for the struggle it would be to get up. Normally, Rhys would help you, but if he left the office long enough to realize something was bothering you, he would spend the rest of the day hovering over you, worried and concerned.
Breathless and almost sweating, you managed to get up. At this point, the only clothes that fit you were light fabric dresses, or what you were currently wearing: one of Rhys's sweatpants and a sweater stolen from his closet. Your partner started sharing half of his wardrobe when your beautiful, stylish, and beloved clothes no longer fit you—you cried for a whole hour after trying to put on one of your favorite pants, and Rhys almost cried too, not knowing how to comfort you.
Walking towards the kitchen, you almost laughed, remembering the various times when hormones provided you with uncontrollable tears and frightened your partner. In those moments, you felt slightly vindicated by his insistence on being present for every breath you took. It's not that you didn't love your partner and appreciate his concern; it's just that he didn't know how to balance it at certain times. As soon as you told him you were pregnant, he became an overprotective mother hen full-time, and it suffocated you a bit. Of course, you talked about it, and he promised to control himself, but if you made a different move, he was already on top of you, asking what was wrong and insisting that you needed to stay in bed.
Reaching the kitchen, you pause for a moment to catch your breath and lean your hands on your back while deciding what to eat. God, this belly was weighing more than usual. Deciding to make a big, hearty sandwich, you start gathering all the necessary ingredients from the cabinets and placing them on the counter.
You feel your partner gently pulling that thread connecting you two, and the next moment, he's entering the kitchen, a furrow between his eyebrows indicating that he's thinking, and the slight contraction in his mouth tells you he's worried. "Darling, you should be resting."
You roll your eyes and let a faint smile form on your lips as you reply, "I was resting, but then I got bored." You lean against the counter for a minute, then turn to grab a knife to cut the tomatoes. When you turn again, Rhys is in front of you, reaching out towards you and taking the knife. "If you wanted something to eat, you just had to ask." You pout at him, but he ignores it and turns to the counter, starting to cut the tomatoes. "I just wanted to do something for myself; you don't let me touch anything since you found out I'm pregnant."
You're beside him, staring at the tomatoes he cut, waiting for a response. He turns his face to you and plants a quick kiss on your forehead, grabbing the bread and saying, "Because the only thing I'll let my partner do while she's pregnant is to make this baby. That's consuming enough energy, and I don't want you to tire yourself out."
"Well, your partner may be making a baby, but she assures you she has enough energy to make her own sandwich."
He raises an eyebrow, and a shit-eating grin forms on his lips. Like she had enough energy to organize the baby's clothes last night? His voice fills your mind, the thread connecting you two vibrating with his amusement. Bastard.
I only slept because you decided to intervene and didn't let me do anything else.
"Darling, I only intervened because you were asleep." He starts putting each ingredient on the bread, and you decide to sit — not because you're tired, obviously — in front of him. You go around the counter as you respond, "Well, I don't remember... Argh." The sudden pain reverberating in your back and cramping that comes and goes cut your speech in half. Damn, you really hoped it wouldn't happen now.
Rhys is in front of you before you can even move, one hand on your belly and the other gently placed on your face, guiding your eyes to meet his. "What's wrong? Is it you? The baby? Panic fills his voice and shines in his beloved violet eyes. His mouth has that contraction again.
The only response you give is a negative nod, trying to catch your breath as the pain passes. He continues with his hands on you and doesn't seem satisfied with your non-verbal answer. I'm fine, the baby is fine. It must have been just another kick in my rib.
His right hand holds the one he placed on your face, and his lips try to form a reassuring smile, which is probably just a funny grimace at the moment. He kisses your forehead, and there's still concern on his face when he pulls away just enough to put both hands on your belly. His gaze alternates between your face and your belly; he still seems reluctant, so he asks again, "Are you sure? I can call Madja just to check, and..."
''Shh." You interrupt him, placing a finger on his lips. Your gaze softened, and now you're the one placing both hands on your partner's face, your thumb stroking his cheek." I said we're fine; it's nothing serious. The baby has been restless all day."
That seems to convince him enough because he agrees and holds your hands, bringing his face closer to yours and planting a gentle kiss on your lips. You pull away after a moment, this time with a complete smile when you playfully say, "Now, go finish my sandwich, or else this baby will start kicking for food." Rhysand laughs with your remark and turns to the counter, finishing your sandwich.
He starts putting away the ingredients again after placing the plate in front of you. "Why didn't you tell me you were in pain? We could have asked Madja for something." He finishes putting away the last ingredient and turns to you again, only the counter separating him as he watches you take the first bite of the sandwich.
"Oh God, this is so good." You ignore his statement, too focused on savoring what might be the best sandwich of your life. He accepts your lack of response with a soft laugh and turns to the cabinets to grab a glass. "Do you want some juice?" you mumble a yes, with your mouth full of the sandwich, and wait for him to fill the glass. He has his back to you while rummaging through the cabinets.
Splash.
"What kind of juice do you want, dear? Because I think we only have orange or grape, but I can ask the House to make some other flavor." He turns to you, waiting for a response, but his face transforms when he sees your expression. "What? Is something wrong?"
Oh, well, this is going to be funny. You finish swallowing the sandwich, trying to formulate a word. He stays where he is, waiting for your response, frozen. But it's your next words that make him run towards you.
"I think my water just broke."
Another pang erupts in your back, and you realize that maybe it wasn't the baby that was restless. It was contractions.
And this baby is about to kick its way out of your belly.

Synopsis: panic attack comfort from konig❤️
You feel your face get hot, a pool of nausea and discomfort rests in your gut. An all too familiar feeling, the precipice of anxiety looms over your head. For something that would seem small to others, is gargantuan to you. You were supposed to go see your friends tonight. You had everything in order. You packed your bag accordingly, with all of the little things that you may or may not need. You were wearing that one perfume that you love and makes you feel a bit more confident. You were even wearing your boyfriend’s sweater, the big fluffy one that makes you feel warm, but not too warm. You did everything. Breathing exercises - check. Name 5 things - check. Meditation - check. If you did everything, why did you still feel so stuck, and small.
You were stuck in this horrible chain of thoughts. Thinking, “what if I say the wrong thing, or do the wrong thing” and “what if the see me for how I see myself.” Sometimes it felt like no matter how hard you try it will never get better, that you will never get better. To struggle with this specific disorder is like living with a 300-year old ball and chain wrapped around your ankle, following you around and never feeling any lighter.
You are sitting on your bathroom floor, knees to your chest, stuck in a place that you never like to be in. Without realizing, a person enters the space and crouches before you, as best as he can.
“Why are you on the floor mein maus?” He says. It doesn’t entirely shock you at first. The sight of him makes you melt, though all of your worry didn’t go away, the lessened. The ball and chain got lighter.
As you look into his eyes you see nothing but love, and worry. The look of worry makes you feel even more guilty. In that moment you feel a lot of emotions and thoughts. The thoughts being 1. You are not going to be able to make it out, 2. You have disappointed everyone, and 3. You have disappointed Konig, the person who just spent a half an hour getting ready to accompany you to see your friends. This makes your eyes sting as you bow your head, and begin to cry.
“I can’t-“ you choke out “I can’t go.” You feel so ashamed. You can’t even look at him. You feel him large, warm, and calloused hands rest on your knees.
“Okay, then we will not go, it’s alright.” He moves one of his hands to your jaw, beckoning you gently to look at his face. When your eyes meet you don’t see disappointment. You don’t see regret. You don’t see anger. You see love, adoration, and worry.
“But how will I even tell them we planned this a week ago,” you pause to gather your strength to talk, ”they will be so disappointed in me and they wont want to see me again.”
“That is not true,”he says, “they love you. Tell them it has something to do with me if it makes you feel better, tell them I am ill.”he offers.
“Okay.” You squeak out. However, this quick conversation did calm some of your nerves and gave you a solution, it did not solve and soothe this ache in your chest and shake in your bones. You begin to breathe hard, not fast but hard. The tears that wear once few, turned into many. Everything became too much. He takes notice to this.
Without any words he gathers you in his arms, placing you across his lap with your head in his neck. He begins to shush you, rubbing your back firmly, but gently.
“Breathe my dear,” he mutters, “breathe for me.”
He continues to whisper soft little sweet nothings and praises. The words alone soothe your anxiety like balm to an aching wound. The feeling of his warm body pressed against yours makes you tired, too tired to do anything but close your eyes.
“I’m tired now.” You say.
Without any words, he maneuvers you into his arms, carrying you bridal style into your shared bedroom. He plops you gently onto the edge of the bed. He then shuffles to the other side of the room, opening your dresser and pulling out a fresh pair of pajama pants and his big warm hoodie, one that he knows makes you feel safe. He delicately directs your body out of your old clothes and into the new ones. Finishing it off with a warm hug.
“I will be back.” He says as he finally tucks you under your covers. Without waiting for your answer he quietly moves out of the room. He returns a few minutes later and puts a glass of water beside you on your bedside table.
“I spoke to them, they said we can reschedule for the same time next week. We will try again.” He mumbled as he pressed a chaste kiss to your soft lips.he then walks to his side of the bed, climbs in right behind you and smushes you against his broad chest.
You don’t feel cured, you feel relieved. With him in your corner, things like this feel manageable

‘’Why do you like fall so much? Everything is dying.’’
This is such a Jess thing to say!
Tumblr media
-
The autumn leaves were crunching under your feet as you walked through the streets of Stars Hollow, smiling at the sight of pumpkins placed all over town and on porches.
Although you had moved out of your hometown two years ago, you insisted on making a weekend trip to Stars Hollow for fall. The silly town-wide festivities, Luke's coffee and donuts, the gazebo decorated with lights and pumpkins; there was none of this in Philadelphia.
Jess walked out of his uncle's diner with two steaming coffees and handed you one. With your hot beverage, plaid skirt and maroon sweater, you were looking like a walking fall painting.
‘’Why do you like fall so much? Everything is dying.’’
By now, you were used to his glum nature and no longer tried to tell him off for being so negative about everything. It was part of him. Just Jess being Jess.
‘’You are right.’’ You took a first sip of coffee, having missed the familiar taste. Those fancy cafés were for hipsters and fancy bitches, you preferred good old and simple coffee from Luke’s. ‘’But fall is also when I met you. It’s when we had our first kiss – right under the gazebo.’’
Jess glanced at the gazebo across the street. ‘’Luke teased me for weeks when I came back. I think everyone who was at the diner that evening witnessed it.’’ He grimaced, the memory of your first kiss being a source of spectacle for the townspeople taking away from its romanticism.
‘’You were so sweet, running after me to give me my copy of Jane Eyre.’’
Beside you, Jess’ cheeks were a little flush, a little embarrassed. He always had difficulty making moves on girls – a little like his uncle. When he noticed the book you had forgot on the counter after finishing your after-school fries snack, Jess saw it as the perfect occasion to get to talk to you without everyone at the diner eavesdropping.
‘’And you kissed me as a ‘thank you’. I definitely was not expecting that.’’
A grin bloomed on your lips. ‘’I was taught to take what you want instead of waiting for it to be given to you.’’
‘’I’m glad you did.’’ Jess wrapped an arm around your shoulders like he did when you were teenagers and kissed your cheek. He was only this sweet and affectionate when you were alone or with a very small group of people he was fully comfortable with – like his roommates, Luke, or your shared good friend Rory.
‘’Fall is also when you told me ‘I love you’ for the first time.’’
He had blurted it out during an argument, making you stop mid-sentence and do a double take. It wasn’t the right way to stop or solve an argument, it got forgotten and your emotional eyes because it was something you never thought you would hear from Jess.
‘’Is that why you love it so much? Because of…us.’’
You nodded. ‘’In parts, yes. Fall holds a lot of great memories. Hopefully, you’ll follow tradition and make our engagement a fall event.’’
Your nonchalant words had Jess choking on his coffee. ‘’Engagement? Is this you taking what you want, again? Because I don’t have a ring for you-’’
‘’I was kidding,’’ you reassured with a soft giggle.
Although he didn’t say it, a part of Jess wished you hadn’t been kidding. He was ready for that, he just needed a little push to pull out the velvet case hidden in his travel bag at the Inn.

Lavender No Outbreak AU - Ch. 2
You and Joel have a conversation. A continuation of Lavender No Outbreak AU Ch. 1 found on Tumblr here.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Joel Miller x Female Reader
Warnings: SMUT! I'm not gonna get into detail, it's smutty guys. Just lean into it. Discussion of pregnancy. Minors DNI, 18+ only.
Length: 6.6k
Joel’s grip was so loose on you that you took your arm back and left him there, staring where you’d been standing. You went to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water from a catering tray, and ducked into a bathroom. You rinsed your mouth out before sitting on the toilet lid and chugging the rest of the water, trying to make yourself take full, deep breaths and not dissolve into a state of panic. The band was still playing outside, an occasional loud laugh made its way through the walls to your little panic room. It was strange, that life was just going on for everyone else and everything had ground to a halt for you.
You finished the water and rinsed your mouth out with the Listerine from your purse before you took a deep breath and opened the bathroom door.
Joel was standing there, leaning against the wall next to the door, making you jump.
“Sorry,” he said. His eyes kept drifting to your stomach. “Wasn’t trying to scare you…”
“Let me find Cass,” you said, crossing one arm protectively in front of yourself, holding on to your elbow. “Then we can go and… Talk.”
“Yeah.”
Cassie knew what happened the second she saw you, her eyebrows drawing together. She pulled you into a quick hug.
“Text me,” she said, giving you a squeeze. “Love you.”
“Love you too,” you squeezed her back.
Joel opened your door for you but the drive was quiet. You chewed your lower lip and fidgeted with the hem of your sweater.
“We could go to that coffee shop you like,” he said after a few minutes of uncomfortable silence.
“Sure,” you said, glancing at him. His jaw was tight, his hand on the wheel tense. Your stomach twisted.
You were both silent again, your arms crossed over your stomach, covering the gnawing hollowness at the center of you. You could practically see Joel’s wheels turning and it was exactly what you didn’t want. There wasn’t a problem here for him to solve, you didn’t WANT his help, you didn’t WANT him thinking shit through. You bit your lip.
He tried to order for you at the coffee shop but you cut him off when he started to say “iced lavender latte.”
“Just a decaf coffee,” you said quickly. He frowned and you shrugged. “Caffeine.”
“Right…”
You sat down at the same table you’d been at when you’d first met him. You wondered if he remembered that, too. Probably not.
“So you’re…” he began.
“Yeah.”
“And…” he paused, looking at his coffee cup on the table. He turned the paper cup in his big hand, back and forth. “And you’re sure it’s mine? It’s… it’s been a few months…”
That stung. ‘It’s been a few months.’ Did that mean he’d moved on? At least to fucking someone else? As though it was perfectly reasonable to expect that after three years together…
“It’s yours,” you replied.
He took a deep breath.
“OK,” he said, nodding slowly. “OK, we can figure…”
“There doesn’t need to be a we,” you replied, watching him from across the table. “I’m not here because I want or need your help, Joel, I’m here because telling you is the right thing to do. But I don’t need anything from you.”
He frowned.
“You don’t…”
“I don’t want your help,” you replied. “I can leave you off the birth certificate, if you want. Or we can figure something out where they visit you or you visit them when they’re big enough. Whatever you’re comfortable with. But I have a plan and I don’t need your help.”
“What’s your plan?” He asked, still frowning.
“I’m finishing the extra classes I’m taking this semester,” you said. “So that will be off my plate. I’m due in late March or early April - haven’t had the ultrasound yet but that’s the current estimate. I’ve got good health insurance and maternity leave at school. My expenses have been pretty low the last few years because I’ve been living with Nan so I’ve got what I didn’t spend on school in savings. I haven’t… Nan doesn’t know yet, so I might need to work out a new place to live but that’s doable and Louisa said I can stay with her for a bit if there’s a snag…”
“What do you mean if there’s a snag?” He asked.
“Well Nan’s Nan,” you shrugged. “Don’t see her being thrilled about any of this. If she throws me out I wanted to have options…”
“You really think she’d do that?” He looked upset. Mad, almost. “After you moved back there to take care of her…”
“She’s going to say I’m making the same mistakes as my mother,” you said. “And she’s going to be pissed about it, I don’t blame her. Once she figures out she’s not going to be saddled with another kid she didn’t want I think she’ll warm up a bit but I’m not sure how it’s going to go before that. So I have a plan.
“Anyway, when school starts up again in the fall, Louisa’s got an in at a day care close to campus,” you said. “I’ll be able to go by on lunch…”
“How are you going to handle medical school with a baby?” He asked. “Especially on your own?”
“I’m not,” you laughed, looking at him like he was crazy. “Joel, medical school is off the table for now. I’m finishing the premed degree because I’m almost done with it and this semester is already paid for but medical school isn’t going to happen for years, if it happens at all.”
“No,” he shook his head. “No, the whole… You can’t just not go…”
“Yes I can,” you shrugged. His jaw was clenched. “Look, it’s not like it’s some big tragedy. So I don’t go to medical school, there’s one fewer doctor in the world, so what? I like teaching, I think I’m good at it. It’s fine if I’m a teacher for the rest of my life…”
“But it’s not what you want,” he was watching you.
You shrugged.
“Not about me anymore,” you said. “I’m not going to do what my parents did. This is my child, I love them. I’m going to put them first.”
He ran his hands through his hair and looked up at the ceiling for a moment.
“How did this happen?” He asked, looking back at you, sounding mad again.
“I mean, you were there for the important part of that,” you laughed a little. “Think you’d know…”
“No,” he shook his head. “No, you were on the pill…”
“Yeah,” you shrugged. “But it’s not 100% effective, especially when you don’t always use it right and I’ll be the first to admit I’m not as responsible as I should be when I’m away from home. I took it late a few days, missed it twice…”
“This wasn’t supposed to happen,” he was staring at the coffee cup in his hand on the table. “It wasn’t supposed to be like this…”
He sounded so full of regret it made your chest hurt. You knew full well that you weren’t together anymore, that he’d never intended to have a family with you but he’d loved you once. Was having a child with you really that abhorrent of an idea?
You closed your eyes for a second and took a deep breath to keep from crying.
“I know that,” you said, voice thick. “But this is happening. It’s not going to be like it was with Sarah’s mom. You don’t need to change anything about your life. You can never see me again if you don’t want…”
“I’m supposed to just pretend like my kid isn’t across the country?” He asked.
“If you want to,” you replied. “Or you can visit, like I said. I can send them to you, I wouldn’t keep them from you if you wanted to be involved. I’m just… I don’t want your money, I don’t want your time. You have no obligation to me. I made this call without you so I’m going to handle it without you…”
“This wasn’t supposed to happen,” he said again. “It wasn’t supposed to work like this…”
“Yeah,” you said, inches away from crying. “So you’ve said. Figure out what it is you want to do and just… I don’t know, call if you want to meet them.”
You got up from the table before you lost control and left the coffee shop, walking back to your hotel alone.
Monday, October 20, 2003
“So when are you telling your grandmother?” Louisa was sitting on a lab table in your classroom as you packed up the last of your things for the day.
“Maybe next week?” You shrugged. “I think I’ve had enough heartbreak for a few days…”
“You really think it’s going to go that badly?” She asked.
“Well,” you put your bag on your shoulder and took one last look around your classroom to make sure you weren’t forgetting anything. “I didn’t think telling Joel would be that bad and we both know how that one went…”
Louisa had picked you up from the airport Sunday afternoon. The second you were in her car, you started crying, sobbing into her shoulder about everything that happened with Joel.
“Oh Sweetie,” she put her arms around you in the airport loading zone. “It’ll be OK. I promise, it’ll be OK.”
“And you really think your grandmother is going to go worse than that?” Louisa asked. “Because I’ll be honest, that sounded brutal.”
“I was a dumbass,” you sighed as you went to the hall and closed your classroom behind you. “I should have known better. I went in expecting to talk to Joel, my boyfriend for some stupid reason, not my ex who had a perfectly reasonable reaction to finding out he was going to be tied to me in some way for the rest of his life.”
“He should be so lucky,” Louisa muttered. You glared at her. “What? You’re a catch.”
“I’m basically a step above a teen mom at this point,” you rolled your eyes. “Think we need to downgrade my stock a bit.”
You heard a student call your name on the way out of the building.
“Can I please do extra credit?” A junior, Amanda, ran up to you, her lab paper in her hands. “I know it’s just a B but it’s still a B and my mom is going to freak out if I don’t bring home at least an A minus…”
“She’s going to get mad over a B?” You raised your eyebrows. She scrunched her nose and nodded. You sighed. “Well we don’t want that, do we?” You thought for a second. “Alright, here’s the deal. There are notes on that paper, fix the things that need improvement and resubmit it by the end of the week AND hang back after school on Wednesday to help me clean the lab equipment. The freshmen are doing frog dissection that day. Do both well and we’ll see how close that gets you to an A. Sound good?”
“You’re a lifesaver,” she hugged you and you laughed for a second before patting her back a few times. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
She broke away from you and took off toward the student parking lot. You watched her go for a moment, waiting until she was out of earshot before turning to Louisa.
“And that is the kind of mom I will not be,” you said. Louisa snorted.
“It’s a low bar but I think you can clear that,” she clapped you on the shoulder and you laughed as you walked to the employee parking lot, opening the door with your hip.
“I will take that…” your voice died in your throat as you froze, barely through the doors.
“Oh shit,” Louisa said, stopping beside you. “Is that…”
“Yeah,” you breathed.
Joel was standing there, leaning against his truck, hands in his pockets.
“Hey, Baby.”
***
Driving across the country alone was fucking exhausting. He felt like he could fall asleep standing up. Seeing you made it worth it, though.
He’d stayed at the coffee shop staring at where you’d been sitting for longer than he cared to admit. He hadn’t realized you’d left at first. Thought maybe you’d gone to the bathroom or stepped outside for air or… fucking something besides just leaving. He’d have stopped you if he knew you were leaving.
By the time he realized you were gone it felt far too late to follow you.
You clearly wanted space. Fuck, it seemed like you wanted nothing to do with him at all. Everything you talked about, everything you laid out was just a way to make sure he wasn’t anywhere near you. Almost like you were desperate to never see him again.
He thought about going by your hotel room - he was pretty sure he could remember which one you’d come out of when he’d picked you up - or just calling you. Repeatedly. But if you really wanted nothing to do with him, he should just leave you the fuck alone.
So, he went home. And drank. More than he was proud of.
How could he have done this again, to you of all people? Not that he was fucking anybody else - not that he even had the drive to fuck anybody else - but fuck, how had he not learned his goddamn lesson after Sarah’s mom?
He and Lauren had just been having fun but the condom broke and she decided against an abortion. But she seemed to resent Joel for every second of motherhood she endured before she left. She snapped one afternoon. Sarah was five months old and had just started teething. She was crying constantly, clearly miserable and in pain, and Lauren was miserable too.
“It’s going to be alright,” Joel tried to tell her as he held their screaming daughter. She rounded on him.
“No, it’s not!” She snapped. “It’s not going to be OK! This is my fucking life now! Diapers and spit-up and fucking Sesame Street! There was shit I wanted to DO and it wasn’t this.”
She was gone a week later.
Joel didn’t want that for you. He’d refused to be the thing that ruined your life, refused to be the thing you resented.
And yet, there he was. Drinking on his couch because he’d fucked your life up.
He was still on the couch when Sarah came home the next morning.
“Hey there sleepy,” she shook him awake, her head cocked to the side. “Looks like you had a fun night.”
“Sure,” he sat up, blinking the sleep and the burgeoning hangover out of his eyes. “How was the tournament, Baby Girl?”
“Eh, kinda crappy,” she shrugged, dropping her duffel bag on the coffee table. “We took fifth.”
“That’s not bad,” Joel said.
“Of ten.”
“Well, did you have fun?” He asked. “That’s the important part.”
“Yeah,” she smiled. “Lizzie’s mom let us rent a movie on the hotel room TV last night so I got to see the new Charlie’s Angels finally!”
“That’s good,” he nodded. At least he had Sarah. He’d always have Sarah.
“So,” she drew the word out and flopped down next to him on the couch. “Is she here?”
“No, Baby Girl,” he put his face in his hands for a second, trying to wipe away the sleep. The frustration at himself. “She’s flying home today. She really wanted to see you, though.”
She sighed.
“What?” He asked, looking at her.
“Nothing,” she picked at the couch cushion.
“Sarah.”
“I just…” She sighed again, looking at him. “I kinda hoped you guys would have figured stuff out this time.”
He sighed.
“We’ve been over this, Baby Girl…”
“I know,” she cut him off. “But you’ve been pretty miserable the past few months…”
“You could tell?” He frowned. She just looked at him, her brows raised.
“And I bet she was, too,” she said. “I kind of thought…” She shrugged. “That if you both saw it you’d figure it out.”
“You miss her,” Joel said. She nodded. “Yeah, me too. Think I might have screwed up a little too bad this time though, kiddo.”
“Did you ask her?” She frowned. “If you screwed up too bad, I mean.”
“Don’t think I can really just…”
“Dad!” She groaned. “Come on. I’m getting kind of tired of you moping around here all the time and you’re not going to get anywhere if you don’t actually talk to her.”
He sighed.
“It’s a bit more complicated…” he paused. Sarah’s cell phone was pressed to her ear. “What are you doing?”
“Calling her since you’re a chicken.”
“Sarah!” He moved to snatch the phone from her but she leaned out of his reach. He glowered at her. She hung up the phone.
“You lucked out,” she said smugly. “It went straight to voicemail.”
“Probably on the plane,” he sighed. “Besides, not a phone conversation, anyway.”
“OK,” she shrugged. “So go talk to her then.”
“Go talk to her.”
“Yup.”
“Just go show up and talk to her.”
“That’s what I said,” she replied. “Dad, you’re an idiot if you think you’re just going to magically get over her and everything is going to be OK. If you need to go talk to her then go talk to her! Maybe her plane hasn’t left yet…”
Joel thought for a second. Sarah might just be right. He needed to talk to you - actually talk to you, where he could see you and have a serious conversation. You’d waited to talk to him in person and he’d fucking blown it. He could at least come to you.
“She might still be at the airport,” he said, reaching in his pocket for his phone. He called Tommy.
“Hey man,” he said quickly. “Need a favor…”
Less than an hour later, Joel, Tommy and Sarah were hurtling into a short term parking spot at the airport, Joel barely waiting for the car to come to a stop when he jumped out. He ran to the check in counter that he’d always walked you to before and looked at the departures board. He didn’t see Syracuse. He ran up to a counter.
“Hey!” A man protested.
“Sorry, emergency,” Tommy waved the man off, catching up with Joel and clapping him on the shoulder.
“Checking in?” The man behind the counter asked.
“No,” Joel said quickly. “Flight to Syracuse, has that left yet?”
“About an hour ago,” the man replied.
“Shit,” Tommy swore.
“When’s the next one?” Sarah asked. Joel looked at her. “What? It can’t hurt to ask…”
“Tuesday morning,” the man replied.
“Shit,” Joel swore. “How about… Buffalo?”
“That’s in three hours,” the man said. “Only three seats left… cheapest one is $2176.”
“Holy shit,” Tommy’s eyes went wide. “People really pay that to go to fuckin’ Buffalo?”
“New York City?” Joel asked. “Or Boston?”
“Look,” the man said. “At this point? You’re looking at two grand a ticket or waiting a few days to leave. Maybe both.”
“I could drive there faster than waiting until Tuesday morning,” Joel sighed.
“So drive it,” Tommy shrugged. Joel just looked at him. “Can’t be more than, what, 20 or 30 hours? You can drive that.”
“I can’t…” he began but Sarah cut him off.
“It’s not like she’s across the planet, Dad,” she shrugged. “Just across the country. C’mon. Are you going to try to be happy or not?”
He looked to his brother.
“You OK to watch Sarah for… fuck, like a week?” He asked.
“Some of us are actually flying and need to check in!” The man Joel cut in line snapped.
He ignored him.
“Sarah can move in if she wants,” Tommy smirked. “Go grovel and admit you fucked up. And see if she’ll record it, I want proof…”
Joel barely stopped back at his house, grabbing a change of clothes and his phone charger before jumping in his truck as Sarah was still packing his bag.
“Not going to fuck it up this time, right?” Tommy asked as he walked out the door.
“Sure fucking hope not,” he muttered.
He drove almost straight through, stopping just for gas and to use the bathroom. When he hit the rumble strips twice in five minutes just outside Cleveland, he pulled off at a rest stop and slept for three hours before getting back on the road again. He made it to your school an hour before students were released.
“Joel?” You gaped at him, looking around like you were waiting on someone to let you in on the joke. You lowered your voice. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
“You left before we could finish talking,” he shrugged. “Figured I’d come to you this time.”
The woman you were with came up along side you. She looked vaguely familiar, like you’d shown him her picture once or twice.
“Louisa I’m guessing?” He asked, extending his hand. “I’m Joel…”
“Put that one together,” she didn’t take his hand. “You know, you wrecked my friend…”
“Thank you for that, Louisa,” you cut her off. She fell silent. “I’ve got this.”
She gave Joel a look before she went off to her own car. You looked back to him.
“I don’t know that we have much more to discuss,” you said. “You didn’t need to come all this way, you can just text or call or email to let me know what you want to do….”
“Need to talk about more than that,” he cut you off. “Let’s go somewhere.”
“Right now?” You raised your eyebrows.
“Didn’t drive clear across the country to wait around,” he shrugged.
“Fair enough,” you said, looking him over. “There’s a diner not far from here, pretty quiet this time of day. Follow me there?”
He’d follow you anywhere.
“Sure,” he said.
Louisa was still standing outside her car when you passed her to go to your own and she stopped you, looking back at Joel with her eyes narrowed. You just shrugged at her and went to your car. Fuck, he’d really fucked up.
He followed behind you a few miles down the road to a 50s style diner, one he’d passed when visiting you before but had never been inside. It was seat yourself and you led him to a table in a corner and he sat down but you just draped your jacket over the booth.
“Just… two minutes,” you went to the bathroom and he watched you go.
He felt like he should be thankful for a minute to get his shit together again before this conversation started but he wasn’t. He was just anxious to be close to you again. Fuck, how had it only been two days since he was dancing with you at Cass’ party? Hoping to figure something out that wouldn’t fuck your life up but would get you back?
You came back to the table wiping your mouth and Joel took a second to just look at you. Fuck you were pretty. So goddamn pretty. It hit him harder every now and then, kind of out of the blue. He’d just be looking at you, enjoying you, and be reminded that - for some fucking reason - someone like you wanted him. Someone that fucking pretty, that fucking smart, that fucking kind wanted him. Didn’t make a damn bit of sense.
It hit him like that now, your skirt gauzy and floating to your knees, the gentle curve of your throat, your lips tugging into a small smile when a little kid went running past you on their way to the bathroom, their mom in tow.
Fuck, how had he managed to wreck shit with you?
“Sorry,” you smiled apologetically as you took your seat across from him. You looked at him for a moment, frowning a little. “Did you drive straight through? You look… well, you look like shit.”
“Just about,” he laughed a little. “Stopped for a bit outside Cleveland when I was pushin’ it too hard. Think I’m still hung over from when I woke up yesterday, actually…”
“You really shouldn’t have done that,” your frown deepened, eyebrows drawing together. “Look…”
“What can I get you?” The waitress looked like she was 19 and Joel had never been more annoyed by a teenager.
“Decaf coffee please,” you handed her the menu. “And a water?”
“Just coffee,” Joel said, watching you. The girl left. “Not eating?”
“Oh,” you laughed once. “Right… No, not here. Or anywhere, really, can’t hold down much of anything right now. Only thing I don’t immediately vomit back up are Clif bars. I think the guy at the camping store in town thinks I’m insane, I buy them by the dozen…”
“Are you OK?” He frowned. He’d thought you’d looked a bit thinner and now he was sure of it, the hollow of your throat more prominent than he was used to seeing.
“Fine,” you shrugged. “It sucks but it is what it is. Now that I’m getting into the second trimester it should get easier. If it doesn’t my doctor wants to talk about other things but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Joel’s stomach twisted. He should have fucking been here, taking care of you.
The waitress brought the coffees and the water.
“Anything else?” She asked.
Joel had been starving a few minutes ago but not so much anymore. He handed her the menu.
“Just this,” he said. “Thanks.”
She rolled her eyes a bit but left.
“So,” you put your arms on the table and cocked your head at him. “What did you drive almost 2,000 miles to talk about?”
“I’m sorry,” he said quickly. “For all of it.”
“For all of what?” You frowned. “For knocking me up? Because I was a pretty active participant in that…”
“Sorry for just lettin’ you go on Saturday for starters,” he said. “Didn’t realize you’d gone for a bit and by then…”
“It’s fine,” you leaned back in the booth, pulling your arms in close to yourself protectively. “I didn’t exactly expect you to come chase me down, I left for a reason.”
“Why did you leave?” He asked. You raised your eyebrows. “It didn’t feel like we were done talkin’ and you just left…”
“I just…” you closed your eyes for a moment. “Look, part of it is the hormones I think but I really just didn’t have it in me to sit there and listen to how much you regret this. I know it’s not ideal and that having a kid with me wasn’t what you wanted or planned but I tried to make it as easy as I can for you so you’re not stuck with me forever…”
“That’s what you think my problem is?” He shook his head.
“Joel, you left,” you laughed darkly. “That’s OK, I don’t hold it against you. We’re adults, most relationships don’t work out and I understand that…”
“No, my problem is that I left so I didn’t keep fuckin’ your life up and before I did I managed to fuck it up more,” he said.
You frowned, confused.
“What do you mean you left so you wouldn’t fuck my life up?” You asked. “What are you talking about?”
He took a deep, shaky breath. This was on the list of shit he’d never thought he’d tell you but circumstances had changed.
“I couldn’t just sit there and watch you give shit up for me anymore,” he shook his head. “You were talkin’ about moving back to Austin because of me and…”
“Because I wanted to be with you!” You gaped at him.
“And I’m not worth you givin’ up the chance at doin’ something extraordinary!” He was all but begging you to understand. “Baby, you are so goddamn smart and so goddamn dedicated, you shouldn’t live your life around where I am! I was doing nothin’ but holdin’ you back and I couldn’t let you settle…”
“Settle?” You cut him off. “Why is doing what I want settling?”
“Because I am not good enough for you,” he was getting more worked up than he should, he wasn’t mad at you and it was hard to remember that. “I’m not, I never went to fuckin’ college, I got stuck in the first job I could do, I am goin’ nowhere fast and that’s fine for me, alright? I got Sarah and she’s going to do something great, I can feel it, and that’s enough for me. But it’s not for you.”
“So, what, I just don’t get a say in this?” You shook your head. “Joel, I don’t give a shit that you didn’t go to college or what you do for a living as long as you like doing it! You made me happy, I don’t care about the rest of it. You’re kind and you’re smart and you’re funny and you’re so selfless it’s almost stupid and I fucking love you! You think that’s not worth moving some shit around for? Jesus, Joel…”
“You can’t just give up on what you want to do,” he shook his head. “You can’t…”
“Well that’s just how it’s worked out,” you shrugged and then sighed. “Look, maybe… Maybe I’ll get there eventually. Once they’re in school full time, maybe…”
“Move in with me,” he said quickly.
“Joel,” you laughed and shook your head.
“I’m serious,” he said. “Look, it’ll… it’ll do exactly what I didn’t want it to do, it’ll limit where you can go to school but you’ll still go to school…”
“I’m not going to move in with you, Joel,” you leaned into the table again. “Be serious.”
“I am being serious,” he replied. “Move in with me. Go to school in Texas. Do what you want to do.”
“I am not going to saddle you with me and a kid you don’t want…”
“Why do you think I don’t want you?” He asked. “Wouldn’t want our kid?”
“Because you left!” You looked at him like he was insane.
“That had nothing to do with not wantin’ you, Baby,” he said. “Nothing. I told you that. If I could have moved my life to wherever you were going to school then I never would have left, I just can’t do that. Not with work, not with Sarah…”
“What would I do there?” You asked. “Do you think any district is going to hire me part way through the school year once it’s obvious I’m pregnant? I won’t have a job, I won’t have insurance…”
“Be a substitute teacher until you need to stay home,” he said. “I’ll take care of you, we can get married, you can be on my insurance…”
“I’m not marrying you for the insurance, Joel,” you shook your head. “Do you even hear yourself?”
“Yes.”
You sighed.
“I can’t…” you closed your eyes for a moment. “I can’t… I can’t think straight right now. You’re not thinking straight right now, you haven’t slept in, what, two days?”
“Something like that,” he said. “But my thinkin’ is fine.”
“I need to think,” you shook your head. “I just… I need some space, OK? I have to figure this out.”
He nodded slowly. That made sense. He didn’t want you to need space, he wanted to figure this out right that second, wanted to hold you and touch you and have you know that it was going to be OK because he was going to make it OK. But he was asking a lot of you. Space made sense.
“I’ll try and get a room at the usual place,” he said, remembering the hotel he usually stayed at when he came to visit. Your grandmother disliked him enough, he didn’t really like trying to fuck you under her roof. Jesus, she was really going to hate him now. “But I’m not leavin’ until we get something figured out. Not goin’ anywhere.”
He got a room and immediately passed out, making sure his phone would ring if you called before going face down into the pillows, not even bothering to get under the covers or take off his shoes.
“Joel!”
The sound of your voice jerked him out of the near coma he’d fallen into. He had no idea what time it was or where your voice was coming from.
“Joel!” You called again. “Which room is yours?”
He blinked the sleep from his eyes and scrambled for the door, yanking it open and jumping  into the walkway outside. Hours must have passed, it was dark outside. You were standing in the parking lot below. It had started raining and you looked soaked.
“Up here!” He called, going to meet you.
“No, stay put,” you called, going for the stairs. He met you there, anyway. You were breathless, hair and sweatshirt - the one he’d bought you when you’d graduated college - dripping wet. “Sorry, I probably should have called…”
“Don’t need to call,” he put his arm around you and led you to his room. He sat down on the edge of the bed and tried to get you to sit beside him but you ignored him, pacing instead. “What’s going on?”
“Do you still have feelings for me?” You asked, fidgeting with the sleeves of your sweatshirt.
“Thought that’d be pretty obvious given the cross country road trip,” he laughed once. “But yeah, Baby. I love you, more than I’ve ever loved anything else aside from Sarah. And that’s close.”
You nodded, still pacing.
“And you wouldn’t…” You looked up at the ceiling, like you were searching for the words. “I don’t know, resent me? If I lived with you? If you ended up with a kid you don’t want?”
“Oh, Baby,” he said softly. You were so uncertain it made his heart ache. “You’re the only woman I’ve ever met that I want to have kids with.”
You stopped pacing and crossed your arms over your stomach.
“Really?” You asked quietly.
He got up and stood in front of you, your eyes glassy as you looked up at him.
“Really,” he nodded. “The fact that you’re having my baby… that’s the opposite of a problem for me. I just can’t be the thing that fucked your life up, I love you too much for that…”
You threw your arms around his neck and kissed him then, pressing your lips against him with a ferocity he wasn’t expecting. He wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you tightly against him, the cold rain dripping from your sweatshirt soaking into his skin. He didn’t care. He wanted you closer, needed to be as close to you as he could get.
He pulled you back toward the bed and tugged your leg up on his hip as he sat down. You sank onto his lap, arms draped over his shoulders as his tongue pressed into your mouth, feeling you, tasting you.
Joel tugged at your sweatshirt and you leaned back enough to pull it up and over your head and you did the same with his t-shirt. He looked down at you as he unclasped your bra. Your jeans were held closed with a hair tie. He frowned.
“Oh,” you laughed a little. “Yeah, I… I kind of forgot about that. Like none of my pants fit as of a few days ago…”
He slipped your bra from you, your flesh pebbled from the cold, and ran his hand down your body, his palm flat against you, until he reached the swell between your hips. He carefully opened your pants, casting the hair tie aside, and cupped the small bump at the base of your stomach.
“So that’s our baby, huh?” He said softly, reverently. You pressed a kiss into the top of his head.
“Yeah,” your voice was a little thick. “We made that.”
He looked at you there for another moment, trying to wrap his mind around it. His baby, inside you. Something the two of you did together, even if you hadn’t meant to.
He kissed you again, holding you close to him, your skin on his own. He wrapped his arms around you so he could pick you up and he lay you on the bed, pulling your wet jeans and underwear down your body, casting them aside on the floor, before pulling his own off, too.
Joel opened your thighs, looking down at your slick sex, running a thumb over you, making you shudder. He lay between your legs, kissing down from your belly button, pressing his lips against the place where his child was inside you, continuing down until his mouth was on your clit, making you gasp.
He gently sucked the swollen nub, teasing it lightly with his tongue. You moaned, your fingers twisting in the sheets. He looked up your body, your head thrown back in pleasure, and smiled against you before moving lower, slipping his tongue inside your entrance. You ground your hips against him then, his nose working against your clit.
“Sorry,” you stilled, your hips tensing. “I just…”
“Don’t you dare apologize for taking what you want,” he said, pulled back just far enough from you that he could talk. “Want you to cum for me, want to give you whatever you need to cum for me.”
He pressed his tongue into you again, his nose working your clit as he opened you. He added a finger below his tongue, spreading you open as your body got tighter and tighter around him, You started rocking your hips against his face again and he moaned at it, at how needy he made you. He slipped his free hand below you to tug you tighter to his mouth, thrusting his tongue deeper and you gasped as you came around him. He worked you through your orgasm before he slipped his finger from you and kissed back up your slit, settling between your thighs. He took the hand that had been inside you and stroked himself with it, spreading the precum over his tip, mixing with your wetness, making him slick. He notched the head of himself against you and trailed his fingers gently through your hair as he looked down at you as you panted for breath. Your eyes were wide, pupils blown.
“Marry me,” he said, his voice needy.
“Joel,” you whimpered.
He kissed you and started sinking into your wet heat, so tight and velvety soft. You rocked your hips against him, pulling him deeper until he was fully within you. He pulled his lips far enough back from you that he could speak, his nose trailing over your cheek.
“Marry me,” he said again.
“You don’t mean that,” you were panting below him. “You’re… you’re just…”
“Should’ve asked you years ago,” he pressed his forehead to yours, his cock buried deep inside you. “Marry me. I love you, want to spend my life with you, want you to be my wife. Marry me, Baby…”
“OK,” you looked in his eyes. “I’ll marry you.”
He kissed you again, starting to move inside you, your walls tight around him, like you were trying to hold him as close to you as you could. You wrapped yourself around him and clung to him, his arms sliding beneath you to cradle you tightly against him, the whole of you against and around him as you came, your pussy throbbing around his cock until he fell apart, too.
He collapsed and rolled onto his side, still holding you close, still deep inside you.
“We’ll figure it out, Baby,” he said softly. “We’re doing this together.”
“You’re sure?” You asked, eyes searching his own.
“I’m sure, Mrs. Miller,” he smiled a little. “I’m damn sure.”

Moving sucks.
You knew this, theoretically. People always complain that moving is too expensive, too much work, simply too hard.
But no one warned you about the loneliness. How your home begins to echo as you pull mugs from cabinets and sweaters from drawers, stuffing it all unceremoniously into boxes. The uncomfortable chill that seeps into the newly empty spaces no longer taken up by your rug or TV. Not to forget the bare spots left by taking down the fairy lights circling the ceiling, your wall of photos and art prints, and the whiteboard calendar that still counts down the days to last month’s big celebration.
Just this morning you cried over a crumpled note found in the back corner of your desk. Rereading your best friend’s well wishes about your new home!, a new start!, a fun adventure! made you realize you couldn’t remember the last time you had deliberately picked up the phone to dial their number.
The doorbell startles you from your thoughts as a rogue tear slips down your cheek. You swipe at it and a quick glance at your phone tells you your fourth take out order of the week isn’t supposed to be here yet. You relax back onto your couch and settle beneath your multicolored crocheted blanket, willing the cheese on your future pizza to melt just a little faster.
Your stomach grumbles in protest at the thought and you join it, groaning when the doorbell rings a second time. Today’s packing-up-your-apartment uniform consisted of a set of well-loved pjs, with a few holes you are definitely ignoring, and tossing your unshowered hair into a top knot. In other words, you were not in the mood to chat up a solicitor.
“I’ve already found God! Thank you!” you yell at the door from your fortress of comfort.
A familiar low chuckle paired with a rhythmic knock greets you this time, and recognition makes you roll your eyes and grin. You untangle yourself from your cozy nest of blankets before sprinting over to the door. Flinging it open, you see a familiar sight: Min Yoongi, phone in one hand, thermos in the other, and gummy smirk plastered across his features.
“I thought you were the delivery guy,” you mumble. “Why didn’t you just knock first?”
Yoongi shrugs and holds out the thermos for you to take, “This one is banana peanut butter with kale and…” he stops for a moment, shakes his head and continues, “something else, too, I don’t know. I promise it tastes good though.”
With suspicion only just hiding the smile in your eyes, you open the thermos and take a long gulp, sighing after you swallow. Oof. Had you actually eaten anything today? Yoongi, still in the doorway, laughs out loud, his expression circling between amusement and chagrin as he catches your eye.
“Cherries. It’s got cherries in it. And now your lips are very red.” He chuckles again with a sparkle in his eye and gaze lingering on your mouth for maybe a moment too long.
“Mhm” you wink at him and take an extra swig from the thermos for good measure, turning around to walk into your apartment. You freeze, suddenly seeing the disembodiment of your living room through his eyes and feel him run into your back with a soft ‘oof.’
“Um okay so um this doesn’t normally look like this, I–”
“Y/N, you’re moving”
“Yes, I know, but um there’s nowhere to sit and I can’t make you tea or anything, because the pot is packed, and I don’t have any food or snacks to offer, and–”
Your word vomit dies down as you feel a gentle tap on your shoulder, the slight pressure turning you around to face him. You’re sure he can see the panic in your eyes as he hums a short positive note.
“Do you want me to leave? I wanted to make sure you ate something with greens today and I think I’ve got that checked off the box,” he gestures toward your hands where you’re still clutching his thermos with a death grip.
With your brain still catapulting headfirst into all of the ways you are currently failing at your people-are-over-must-be-a-perfect-host duties, you purse your lips and sigh, “Yeah, maybe.”
You see something unfamiliar pass across his features, but it morphs so quickly into a sweet smile you can’t decipher it fast enough.
“Alrighty then.” He nods, “best of luck with the rest of your packing. Let me know if you need anything else, and I’ll see you later.” He turns and walks out the door, down your front steps and disappears around the corner.
You push the door shut and rest your forehead on the cool wood for a moment, the slight chill relieving you of your hosting concerns when the next set of concerns sidle in.
Wait, did he want to stay? Better question, did you want company? Being alone for the past three days had been making you feel stir-crazy, but there was still so much to do, and it was exhausting directing other people. But he’s not your normal ‘other people.’ Did he drive away yet? Maybe you can still catch him. Ah shit, did you even thank him for the smoothie?
Your thoughts tumble and jumble with the force of a second spin cycle – UGH you also still have laundry to do. Pulling yourself from the door, you give up on trying to catch him and head back to the safety of your couch. You sip from his thermos and pull out your phone to text a quick thank you.
A few minutes later, your phone pings with the notification that your pizza has been delivered. You open the app to double check the photo the driver sent as your doorbell rings.
You break out into laughter as you pull open the door for a second time and show the grinning man on the other side the photo on your phone: Min fucking Yoongi outside your door holding two pizza boxes with a shit eating grin on his face and giving the camera a thumbs up.
“Someone order pizza?”
An hour later, you’re not sure who convinced who to stay, but you’ve both been fed and watered with cheesy nonsense and warm conversation.
Remarkably, he wasn’t bothered by the stacks of boxes and piles of items yet to be packed. The other half of your brain reminds you that he’s seen your apartment – and you – through all levels of disarray, some messes 100% yours, like when laundry day lasts a week and takes over your bedroom, the living room, and somehow the bathroom. Other messes were more of a group effort, when you would join forces to make the biggest mess in your kitchen possible while learning a new cooking technique from your subscription meal kit boxes.
Paper plates thrown into a garbage bag and half a pizza wrapped up for tomorrow’s breakfast later, you plop yourself on your carpet, back leaning against your couch, and sigh. You had been trying your darndest to separate the mountain of boxes in front of you into “give away” and “keep” before Yoongi had knocked on your door the first time, and they had now snuck from the ignorable periphery back into your sight.
All at once, the previously easy chatter catches in your throat and you feel yourself trail off, whatever you had just been laughing about suddenly dying on your lips.
“Hey,” a soft voice pierces through the bubble of your thoughts.
“Where did you go, just now?”
You turn to see Yoongi sitting cross legged next to you. He cocks his head at you, his voiced question clear in his soft eyes and slight frown. You avoid his eyes by looking down at your hands in your lap, and realize you are clutching your nearly empty water glass as if it was a life preserver. Raising the cup to your lips, you shrug and gesture loosely at the boxes, the white walls, the furniture marked for people who had messaged you on Facebook Marketplace.
This room would no longer be yours in less than a week, the items in it in even less time. It was more full than it had ever been and yet you felt the emptiness of each drawer and closet echoing with something akin to grief.
“Can I touch you?”
You nod, and immediately feel a warm hand touching yours, gently prying the cup from your clutches and setting it aside. He stands and ignores your protests as he tugs you to your feet. He wraps your arms around his waist and encircles your shoulders with his, pulling you into his chest and squeezing gently. You turn your head to the side so your cheek presses against the soft fabric of his shirt. The pressure of his chin sitting on top of your head feels overwhelming and wholly correct at the same time. Tears prick your eyes for the umpteenth time, and the comforting weight of Yoongi’s hug can’t keep them at bay.
“I just…” the words fade as you sniffle. “I just don’t know how to do this and I feel like I’m doing it all kinds of wrong.”
He hums, and his arms squeeze you a little tighter. Melting into the hug, you allow yourself to bury yourself face first in his soft tee and inhale deeply. His gentle scent of freshly laundered clothing with a hint of citrus is all it takes for your breath to turn into shorter, shuddering sobs, wracking your body.
You feel him gently rub the small of your back. Wave after wave of emotion floods your system, ping ponging between frustration and sadness and anger and fear. Each time you let yourself recognize and validate one thought, another sneaks in, bringing a new wave of tears.
One thought in particular stands as a concrete tower above the rest: you had been its architect for the past few months, placing stone after stone higher than the last until it was magnificent in its largess and painful in its stability. Ignoring it had become normal practice until now, when you looked up and realized you had built the tower around yourself.
You were choosing to leave. You chose to move thousands of miles from your family, and now you were choosing again to move hundreds of miles away from the family you had found here. There was no one to blame, no mystical forces of nature to shift the attention to. It was all just you.
A small noise breaks the paralyzing stillness of your thoughts, and you release a breath you didn’t know you were holding. The sound blankets your spiral in a layer of sweet, comforting darkness. You grab at the tuneless melody like a rope and as the rumbling within his chest begins to center you back in your living room, safe in his arms again, you realize he was humming. You squeeze his waist a little tighter and as you release, his humming trickles off.
“If it’s any consolation, no one knows what they’re doing.” He whispers into your hair. “Especially when packing up a home they’ve lived in for a while. This place is stocked with things, yes, but also memories. You’ve grown and changed a whole lot since you moved in.”
“So then why am I leaving?” your voice cracks on the last word as you hiccup it into the void.
He shrugs, “We both know I can’t answer that for you. I do hope that whatever answer you decided on when you started this process is still true, and if it’s not, then this is just one choice. And you can make a new one in the future.”
You ‘hrumph’ back at him and take another deep breath.
Your breathing soon begins to match his small, rhythmic motions, inhaling and exhaling as your brain clears. You pull back from where you had smushed your face on his shirt, grimacing at the snot left on his shirt, and wiggling to escape his embrace in search of a tissue. He seems to have a different idea as his grip strengthens and you look up to see his concerned eyes searching for yours. Suddenly, a cat-like grin breaks out across his features and out of nowhere, the man laughs.
“How could someone look so beautiful after sobbing like the Titanic was sinking?”
You groan, for likely the fiftieth time today, and swat at his chest. With another smirk, he releases you from the hug. You shiver from the immediate loss of body heat and quickly look around the room for something resembling a tissue that had not been packed yet. You hear him clear his throat, and you look back to be met with a tissue dangling right in front of your face.
“Thank you” your voice sounds small and gravely and you blot your eyes and nose before making eye contact with the spots on his shirt again. “Oh gosh, I’m so sorry… your shirt…” your voice fades as you unconsciously reach out toward the stains, your only focus to assess the damage. He gently catches your wrist before your hand hits his chest, and places a butterfly light kiss on your knuckles.
“Don’t worry about it. This is my designated moving t-shirt, eligible for dust, stains, and tears – bonus points if you get all three in one go,” he winks, fluidly moving his hand from your wrist to your fingers, and spins you around in circles until you can’t help but give him a watery grin. Pulling you in for another hug, he gently squeezes you once more before letting go and heading toward the kitchen. You hear the squeak of the faucet before he reappears proudly brandishing your glasses now full of water.
You accept the glass he holds out and let your eyes scan the pile of things in front of you. The boxes in the corner pull your attention again and you start to feel the overwhelm teeter you back over the edge. Taking a deep breath, you sip at the water and move to sit on the couch, seeking the comfort of your blanket once again.
“Let’s do something easy tonight, okay? No thoughts, just blankets.”
You nod, and he plugs in the TV that you had moved into a corner for ‘safe keeping’ while you sold the table it stood on. He settles next to you on the couch and you spy a slight knowing smile on his face as he navigates to your favorite show, the one you started over to watch with him, and the one that makes you happy cry every time.
He slides his hand into yours and it doesn’t leave for the entirety of the first, second, or third episode you watch. Neither does he when you fall asleep on his shoulder.

Once they'd managed to disentangle themselves from each other, Y/N and Adrian got ready for dinner. They'd wasted hours in bed. Wasted hours lay together in the quiet comfort of their hotel room. Wasted hours in each other's grasp. Because they needed it.
At two o'clock that day, they'd already had a wild fuckin one, and they had napped for most of the morning. So what if they neglected some of their work for a few hours of respite? Being drugged and creeped on was exhausting.
As Y/N was in the process of clipping her earrings in, Adrian exited the bathroom in nothing but a towel since he'd forgotten to bring his clothes in with him, and her mouth was forming a wolf whistle before she'd fully come to terms with the fact that her very sexy friend was half naked in her presence. Hell, why not lean into it? Why not inflate his ego a bit?
"Who is this sexy man before me?" she playfully cheered, her eyes raking over his dripping form very obviously, and she brought the back of her hand to her temple. "You've got me swooning, champ."
He turned fully bright red from the very tips of his ears to his freckled chest. He got so shy all of a sudden. He tried to hide his flushing cheek in his shoulder, but she'd already seen it and was enjoying everything that was presented to her.
"Baby, look at you blush!" she teased as she reached out to poke him in the chest. He was a furnace, the heat emitting from him was so intense that she couldn't resist the urge to press her palms against his skin to warm her room temperature hands to Adrian temperature. "You're red hot."
"I'm definitely red."
"You can say that again, hot stuff."
"Please stop being nice to me, I will get a boner."
Grinning at him like a maniac, Y/N rolled her eyes and shook her head, but did give him some space to breathe. He found his clothes and held them in a bundle over his crotch as he awkwardly backed himself into the bathroom because he'd been noticeably turned on from the moment she'd called him sexy and was so glad she either hadn't noticed it or chose not to mention it. He dressed quickly and he did have to admit, the clothes he'd hastily grabbed didn't exactly go together. He grabbed some navy dress pants, an orange and white striped shirt, and a green argyle vest.
It simply didn't work at all.
"No."
"What?" He hummed in confusion. "No what?"
"Take it off."
Y/N crossed the room and lifted his arms so she could guide him to take the sweater off. As soon as that garment was thrown in the general direction of their bed, she began undoing the buttons of his shirt.
"There's too much going on here," she commented, pushing the fabric from his shoulders casually.
So casually that Adrian was sure she wasn't aware of her effect on him, despite the fact she'd made fun of him a mere five minutes ago for the effect she was having on him. At this moment, to her, he was just a fashion problem to solve and not someone who'd spent the last few hours feeling her up. All Adrian did was watch in fascination as Y/N turned and surveyed the clothes Leota had packed for him. He stood there with his hands on his hips, just grinning to himself as she went about pulling the pieces from the suitcase one by one.
"You just wanted me shirtless again," he joked once he'd got the nerve to.
"Oh, I always want that."
With a chuckle, she finally found a white tank top and threw it at his face. "Put this on," she ordered, and obviously he obeyed. "Where did I put it? It was around here somewhere. Ah!"
The moment he'd gotten the vest over his head, she was guiding his arms into a slightly oversized beige shirt, doing the buttons up to about halfway, and rolling up the sleeves. Once a fancy-looking silver watch and belt were added, she stood back to evaluate, and fuck, he looked classy and effortless and so goddamned hot that Y/N unconsciously bit her lip as took in the image before her.
"This is better?"
"...Yeah," she breathed.
"You like?"
"I like." She averted her gaze to her feet. "Do you like my dress?"
She had picked a dark blue sundress that had a sweetheart neckline and came to just below her knee. That paired with the Jimmy choos and the delicate silver jewellery she'd added made her feel and look a million bucks.
"You, uh, you look really nice, Y/N," he answered. "Really, really pretty."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, you're my pretty little wife," he tried to joke but there was a catch to his voice that he didn't think to hide - one that made him seem so boyish and vulnerable. "Never thought I'd get to call anyone my 'wife', especially not someone as nice as you."
Turning into a complete puddle at his confession, Y/N had no choice but to cradle his head so lovingly in her palms, her thumbs drawing circles against his just-shaved jaw. "You've been an excellent husband so far, just the best. Imagine if I had to do this mission with Chris... or John," she chuckled at the thought, "We'd be dead by now. So, thank you for being you and taking care of me like you do, and only you do. You are the only person capable of being my 'husband'."
"I...uh... I don't know what... People aren't... I mean, I've never... I don't... I don't know what to say."
"It's okay. You don't have to say anything."
Nodding his head, he pulled her close and buried his face in the crook of her neck, mumbling out a quiet, "John would fucking suck at this mission," that had Y/N laughing into his temple.
"No offence to John, but I guarantee that he's an awful kisser."
"He is." She waited for the explanation that he was dying to give. "He's an affectionate drunk, like, trying to stick his tongue down my throat kinda affectionate. Apparently, he needed to kiss his homies goodnight and was way too enthusiastic about it."
"Weird."
He pulled back to agree, "Really weird," and grin at her.
They held eye contact for a beat too long, his arms still around her waist, their noses an inch apart. His gaze dropped to her lips and he had to fight the urge to kiss her.
"We better go," she murmured, breaking the contact first and stepping back, but she'd only taken two steps away from him before she was rushing back to him.
Giving in, Y/N surged to snog the hell out of Adrian, who only had a second to register that he was being kissed before he was pushing her by the hips into the nearest wall, groaning and curling his hand into the back of her head so she wouldn't hit it against the concrete. His other hand cupped butt, pulling her closer as he rocked his pelvis against hers. It was a rough, urgent, possessive kiss that took everything he had to give, and even though he could feel his control slipping away, Adrian did eventually pull back and rest his forehead against hers.
"Sorry... sorry," he panted, a little embarrassed by how out of breath he was. "I got carried away and..."
His words trailed off when he got a good look at her face, which was flushed and beaming up at him, the grin on her face telling him that she didn't mind at all. Her lips were slightly parted and felt so soft when he brushed his thumb across them, causing a small groan to bubble up from his chest. He had to force himself to pull away, to let her go, to not drag her back to the bed and fuck the hell out of her.
"We should go," she said softly, then with a mischievous grin, added, "Before we make even more of a mess of my lipstick."
After a long, charged pause, Adrian let out a shaky chuckle as soon as Y/N began to wipe away any smudges of lipstick from his face. They were simply two idiots making excuses to touch each other's lips in any way they could, and they both knew it.
Y/N got halfway to the door before her hand reached behind for him to hold, and she only had to wiggle her fingers at him to know that he was going to do exactly what she wanted and follow after her, no matter what.
The walk to the dining hall itself was short, quiet, and filled with sneaky glances as each other, but their dinner was filled with conversation. Everyone they came across wanted to know about the newly married couple that arrived just this morning.
Apparently, word travels fast at The Monarch Hotel.
So, the pair painted fake smiles on and tried to remember all the names that had been thrown their way. It seemed the only pair that hadn't introduced themselves were their target and her partner. Queen Caroline and someone who was not her deceased husband hadn't moved from their seat the entire meal, not even looking out to the throng of other guests around them once.
"If you keep moving your hand up my thigh, I'm going to get another awkward boner. You're killing me here," Adrian whispered to Y/N during their lulls between conversations. Y/N had been taking the time to see what was going on with the Queen and was focused on that rather than where her hand was. She'd assumed that it was still innocently placed on his knee, yet that wasn't the case.
"Sorry champ," she whispered back with a slight giggle in her voice as her hand retreated back towards his knee, though she couldn't help but glance back up at his flushing face every now and again to take a peek.
Every single couple but one came up to them. All of them but Queen Caroline wasted their time on introductions and 'when was the last time you went skiing in the alps?' and 'isn't the caviar they serve here just delicious?' while the target sat there silently eating her food, refusing to acknowledge or respond to any of the other party guests' attempts at conversation.
All of them were all so fucking chirpy that it was unnerving. Aren't married people supposed to be miserable and hate each other? Or has every middle-aged male comedian been lying for the past thirty years? All these couples seemed so loved up, so happy and so damn... boring.
There seemed to be nothing wrong with them. They were rich. They were in love. They were happy. They were in paradise. They were fucking insufferable. It all seemed so fucking fake.
As the night wound down and most of the others had left for the after dinner mixer, the couple that the pair had bumped into when they first arrived appeared and sat in the seats opposite. "I hope you remember us from this morning?" the man asked, his smile so wide that Y/N was half convinced he'd been doused with the Joker's laughing gas.
"Oh! Of course!" Y/N smiled brightly at them, giving Adrian a little nudge. "How can I possibly forget? Steve and Sam, am I right?"
Steve and Sam nodded their heads in unison. "That's us," Sam said, smiling broadly at her. "Your dress is to die for, Syd. Can I call you Syd?"
"Please do. And this old thing? I've had it in the back of my closet for weeks now and, well, what better time than now to give it a spin?"
A long and way too pleasant compliment battle happened between Sam and 'Sydney' as their husbands sat there, just nodding along and watching with mild amusement and a few chuckles here and there. In his head, Adrian was trying to think of conversation starters but they were all too nerdy or downright too gross to say to this guy.
Peacemaker was easy to talk to. They'd talk about everything. From the time Chris witnessed somebody shit themselves when they were getting a tattoo and failed to mention it until the tattoo lady asked, "What is that smell?", to the time when Olivia Welch period blooded all over his brother Gut's white trousers when she had to sit on his lap cause there weren't enough car seats on the way to church one Sunday.
No matter how fucked up, Peace probably had experienced some way more fucked up so it was totally fine to say to him.
This guy? What has ever gone wrong in the rich asshole's life? Had he ever been period blooded on while dressed as a Backstreet Boy wannabe? Adrian fuckin' doubted it.
Soon, it was heavily implied that all of the guests should've been in the gigantic marquee outside so those remaining in the dining hall were not so subtly ushered there. It was white and filled with greenery and fairy lights and there were three ornate bars stocked with just about every alcohol you could ever need and a band on a raised platform. There wasn't any seating though, so everyone stood near each other chatting loudly about everything under the sun, waiting for something to begin.
Sparrow emerged and planted himself in the middle of the room with a tray of milky looking drinks on a platter and an excited glint in his eyes. "Everyone ready to party!?" He grinned widely at everyone, receiving several thumbs ups and cheers as one by one they took a glass from him. "Excellent. Let's get started!"
At his command, every person in the room took a shot, and immediately, music blared through the speakers and loud voices shouted in a jovial tone. The floor seemed to shake beneath everyone's feet and the entire crowd of strangers swayed to the music, laughing happily while having fun together.
Y/N and Adrian hadn't drunk theirs yet, and Sam kept shooting nervous looks at them. Her eyes shot between Sparrow and the Bardots, and when she noticed that neither of them looked like they were going to take a sip anytime soon, she pulled Y/N in to whisper, "Drink before they notice."
When Y/N heard her, she turned to stare back at her suspiciously before slowly drinking from the cup in front of her, grimacing at the strong taste of... she had no idea how to accurately describe it. Like the outside of a green bean but with the juice of an out of date peach? That was as close as she was going to get.
And since Y/N drank it, why wouldn't he? Adrian practically threw the concoction down his throat and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, a disgusted expression on his face.
"You alright?" Steve asked as he nudged him, and as soon as Adrian nodded, he added, "You get used to it."
Yeah, it was gross but it hadn't altered them in any perceivable way so that was a small win, he guessed. He was just glad that they hadn't been roofied again since that happening twice in a day would be too much for his brain to handle.
"What was that?"
"I think they call it Milkweed."
"Like the flower?" Y/N asked, her voice rising to be heard over the music, and all Sam did was shrug.
Milkweed, the poisonous plant that caterpillars eat to retain the toxins that give them that bold orange colour on their wings in an effort to scream at predators 'Don't try to eat me, I'll kill you!' Should humans consume that? Absolutely not. Yet, they weren't feeling the nausea that they should've been so maybe it was just a name after all.
Before Y/N could rack her brain for whatever information she had stored in her brain, Sam was pulling her into the mass of dancing bodies and, luckily, as she felt the tug, her hand gripped onto Adrian's bicep and was yanking him along with her. His moves were goofy and mostly consisted of bouncing from foot to foot with some wavey hand gestures that seemed like they could be dance moves - or someone trying to hold a piss in - but he seemed to be having fun regardless so it was fine.
She couldn't have cared less about how stupid he looked. He was smiling, and that alone, relaxed her enough to not freak out about possibly just being poisoned (although, that was definitely something that needed to be looked further into). If it killed them, then so be it. At least they died happy.
Most of the guests danced to the upbeat tune that was blasting across the room from the bandstand in the corner, except for a select few of them, who were just standing around talking with various groups and talking with each other. Most of them didn't seem drunk and they weren't doing anything crazy but, then again, it was still early in the night and things might get more rambunctious as time went on.
For now, Y/N let her hips sway side to side to the beat of the song as Adrian tried to follow along, trying his damnedest to look as cool as possible. He'd never been a particularly good dancer but, hey, at least it gave him an excuse to dance next to a pretty girl. As expected, each song got progressively slower and slower and slower until the last few minutes of the night dragged on interminably as everyone eventually found themselves slow dancing with their partner or retreating back to their rooms.
Despite how much the pair wanted to hide away from these happy freaks, there was so much information that could be gleaned from just watching people let loose. Y/N had come to the conclusion that most, if not all of these couples, were in the same general 25-35 age range. Queen Caroline was the only woman who was an outlier in that regard.
The women around her were all different shapes, sizes and occupations - some were housewives, some were athletes, some were creatives, some were entrepreneurs, and others fell somewhere in between those lines - but the men were all the same.
All of them were fit. All of them had that kind of lean muscle body type. All of them were around 6 ft-ish. All of them were rich. All of them had pretty wives. All of them had less social capita than their pretty wives.
The Bardot cover story was that Sidney was the daughter of a decorated colonel and had become a well regarded paediatrician in her adult life - which purposely wasn't too far from the truth. Marty was a karate instructor and they'd met when she was asked to do first aid at a karate tournament, which is where their love story blossomed from. They'd put karate instructor down as a joke and, at the time, thought they'd change it to something more serious as the mission got closer. Obviously, that did not happen.
Women were the key to understanding what the fuck was going on here. Now that's goddamned feminism.
Adrian was just getting his groove on. He'd guessed Y/N was cracking something open in her mind since she got that far away look on her face that told him that she was deep in thought and he was going to have to take brunt of the 'acting that we're having a fantastic time' shtick.
Bringing her closer to his chest, Adrian rested his cheek on her hair as they swayed along to the slow, steady rhythm of the song, his arms wrapped around her waist as he held her against him. Y/N leaned into his chest like it was second nature, her body unconsciously melting into his like butter as her mind tried to process, sort through and explain everything she was hypothesising.
After a few minutes, she finally snapped back to reality and craned her neck upwards so that she could see Adrian's lips moving as he very quietly sang along to the song playing and Y/N just melted all over again. There was something so comforting about hearing his low baritone voice, something so tender and gentle and soft and borderline innocent.
What's that playing on the radio?
Why do I start swaying to and fro?
I have never heard that song before
But, if I don't hear it anymore
This guy was a bloodthirsty assassin? This guy was a loony? This guy was the psycho her sister warned her about? No way. This dude was a touch starved dork who was a complete sap when given the opportunity and security to do so.
It's still familiar to me
Sends a thrill right through me
Cause those chords remind me
Of the night that I first fell in love to
He was completely whipped for her, that much was obvious. If she asked him to wear a shirt with her face on it, he'd grab two from his wardrobe and ask which one she preferred.
Those magic changes my heart arranges
A melody that's never the same
A melody that's calling your name
It begs you please, come back to me
Please, return to me
It was almost as if he was singing her a lullaby, whispering sweet words into the crown of her head and brushing the back of her hair.
Don't go away again
Oh make thеm play again
The music I wanna hear is once again
You whispеr in my ear
Her chin propped itself on his peck, her fingers curling onto his shirt to ground herself as she gazed up at him.
Oh my darling
"You've watched Grease?" she whispered, raising an eyebrow.
"Yup," He replied softly with a shrug of his shoulder, chuckling nervously as he rubbed the back of his neck. "My Nana used to have a crush on John Travolta. We watched it every Saturday."
"I bet you know it word for word."
"I do. Nana used to find it very funny when I did my Danny Zuko impression."
"Oh, I have to see this now!"
In a flash, he was pretending to comb through his bouffant of hair, dramatically slinging on an imaginary leather jacket and he was pacing around her like a shark with a certain exaggerated swagger that she'd never seen before. She found herself holding back giggles, barely able to keep a straight face as he continued to strut about.
"That's cool, baby. I mean, you know how it is, rocking and rolling and whatnot," he mimicked the sleaze, making her snort loudly, before dropping it for a second to say, "Then you're supposed to say, 'Danny?!' in an offended Australian accent," and then the character immediately went back up.
"Danny?!"
"That's my name, don't wear it out."
Some more general Zuko-isms were performed before her eyes before Y/N was laughing hysterically at him and his downright atrocious accent while her hands flew up to wipe away the tears streaming down her cheeks. He'd even attempted some kind of blue steel type facial expressions to imitate Danny as best he could. Her fingers playfully moulded the skin of his cheeks, pushing them in so his lips would pucker like a fish.
"Gimme a kiss, Mrs Bardot," Adrian teased, still in Travolta mode. "It's like a fucked up Princess and the Frog - if you give me a smooch, I'll turn into a scientologist."
"Not likely," she said through her chuckles. Yet, Y/N would know how much he would whine if she didn't give in. Plus, she wanted to give in. So, throwing caution to the wind and leaning forward, his fish mouth met hers in an enthusiastic, somewhat sloppy but nonetheless sweet kiss.
"We could go back to our room if you want?" Y/N began, although she did instantly follow up by taking his hands and placing them on her waist, "Or we could stay and dance some more?"
His answer was obvious. His hands clutched onto the fabric at her hips and he pulled her closer to him. As he pressed himself into her even tighter, she instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned up, tilting her head ever so slightly backwards until their noses touched. Her lips parted gently and his hand slipped off of her waist and slowly travelled upwards to cup of her cheek, his thumb gently stroking her cheekbones as he stared into her eyes.
"This is what I think Prom would've been like," Adrian breathed, gazing deeply at Y/N before pressing their foreheads together and closing his eyes. "I didn't go so I don't really know if that's accurate or not, but I've watched movies."
"You've watched movies?" she parroted back to him, a chuckle following her words.
"Yeah, a lot of 'em'." Adrian bumped his nose into hers. "And in all the coming of age teen movies, they dance like this at Prom so I assume the real thing is somewhat similar. Is it?"
"I don't know. Nobody asked me so I didn't go."
Shock permeated through Adrian's being.
"They didn't?" he repeated, his voice an appalled whisper. "That's insane! If I had the chance back then, yeah, I bet I would've tried. Maybe not succeeded. But I would've tried to ask you to Prom, would've done the whole cringe over the top promposal as well if I had the opportunity... But I didn't, obviously."
Y/N felt incredibly warm. Like, super warm. Not in the sickening, sweaty, sex way, but more in a nice, cozy, holy fuck I think I might be in love with him, happy way. It was weird. Really fucking weird and totally different to anything she'd experienced in her relationship before, which was saying something considering all she'd been through.
"Oh, you wouldn't have wanted to go with me. I had braces and I had these glasses that were just so huge on my face and I was seriously pimple covered - I used to keep Proactiv in my backpack cause I always needed to reapply - and my style back then, jesus -"
"Y/N," Adrian interrupted, pulling away slightly and staring straight into her eyes. "You would've been you, so yes, I would've been so insufferably into you. Like I am now, and probably always will be." His tone turned softer, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "I think I would've considered murdering Chris if he got to come here with you instead of me. John I could threaten with bodily harm and he'd run away with his tail between his legs, but Peace? Probably would've had to fight him."
He snorted at his own joke but then he paused for a second, letting out a short, humourless laugh, as if trying to hide how desperately he was waiting for her to say something else or tell him to stop making stupid jokes or something, but nothing came except for a giggle, which caused his shoulders to rise higher than they had already, as a goofy grin broke across his face.
They just stood there, simply smiling at each other for a moment, neither feeling the need to say anything to fill up the void between them. Neither sure what to make of their current situation, let alone where exactly it was headed next, because frankly, they hadn't given it much thought. All they knew for sure is that they were both enjoying themselves despite all the cult weirdness going on around them; they were enjoying the fact they were finally getting what they both desired most of all: each other.

Because of REASONS, I remembered my Scooby-Doo character designs from a few years ago. I decided to touch-up the picture a bit and fix a few things. So, here they are again! If I were to totally make my own “dream version” of Scooby-Doo, this isn’t exactly the “style” I’d prefer them in (something a little closer to the classic), this is just a cute and simple style I use when I want to get an idea for basic body-types, hair, and outfits. As for the story, I’d toss together all my favorite things from every previous version, but the basic plot would go like this; the kids all originally met when they were very little, trick-or-treating on Halloween, and solving the mystery of some mean older kids who were stealing candy. During middle school, they wound up moving away from each other for various reasons... but all reunited in high school! They had a fairly normal time, solving mundane mysteries and such. After graduation, they decide to take a road trip together, and THAT is when they truly become Mystery Inc. A mixture of the old-school plots, some new adventures, and yes- sometimes the spooky things ARE real! I’d honestly aim for it to be PG-13, it doesn’t need to be turbo-edgey and grim-dark, but they can say swears. There would one F-bomb in the whole show, and Freddy gets to say it~
(some character notes below)
I drew Velma first because I’ve always wanted to update her outfit as sort of a sleeveless sweater-dress kind of thing. I gave her red shorts instead of a skirt, and I think it somehow made her look more sporty but still cute. Some orange high-tops sort of bring it together. I wanted her hair to have something like a flapper-girl style, and I kept classic style square glasses because she works them (and still can’t see without them). Velma is easily the most adorable. She’s still the “smart one”, but she doesn’t know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING; history, science and chemistry, literature, and math are what she excels at. She also has a near photographic memory, and although she understands a lot about technology (in terms of software/programming/coding), she isn’t too great with machines. Some background for her; Velma is mixed Japanese/Mexican and Jewish. She’s also trans and a lesbian~
I knew I wanted Daphne to look really fashionable, but also in something simple and comfortable. I gave her a purple halter top/skirt with a leg-cut on one side, and loose lavender jeans. She almost never has pants in her main outfit, but I think it gives her a fun nostalgic look of the 60s and 70s. I moved her green scarf up to her hair, and gave her matching green earrings. I like the idea that because she’s a little clumsy (Danger-Prone-Daphne) she’s taken lots of athletic lessons to try and make up for it; she’s done ballet, gymnastics, Karate, boxing, archery, played different sports like soccer/basketball/baseball/tennis, swimming lessons, and equestrian classes. Basically, when she’s in “alert-mode”, she could probably handle just about anything… but when she’s not paying attention she tends to trip (though, she’s kinda of backwards-lucky by stumbling into clues this way). Daphne can speak several languages fluently, she’s got perfect pitch, is super sensitive to textures so she can recognize any material, and has a gift for being very charming and intuitive. Some background for her; her dad is Iranian, and her mom is Scottish. She’s also bi~
I always wanted to give Fred a blue jacket. I just think it suits him. He’s also got light-blue jeans, and a white long-sleeve shirt (with a red collar to replace the ascot haha). He’s got a little bit of a farm-boy vibe (hence the belt and work boots). He’s all about cars and other machines, a real  Mr. Fix-It, and he loves taking stuff apart to see how it works. As a result he’s pretty good at his other hobby besides mechanics… TRAPS. Fred also practices being an escape artist, so if he ever gets caught he’ll be able to get out of almost anything. Although he’s certainly not “stupid”, he has a tendency to be a bit oblivious and a little too headstrong. He’s got a heart if gold though, and everybody who knows him would agree that he’s endlessly kind. Some background for him; Fred’s parents went missing around when he younger, and so he’s had a few different foster families. He doesn’t get reunited with his folks until much later (learning more about his family, he finds out he’s mixed Italian/Norwegian). He’s also bi~
Shaggy doesn’t need much changing (if I altered too much, he just wouldn’t look like Shaggy anymore). I have him a white long-sleeved shirt under his classic green one, changed his brown pants into cargoes (all loose fitting, Shaggy likes it baggy), and gave him some black sneakers. He’s naturally still got long hair and a scruffy chin (plus some sideburns). Even though he’s a well known scardey-cat, Shaggy has a deep love for horror movies and fictional spooky stuff doesn’t seem to bother him. His various fears and phobias have actually made him a safety expert; not only does he usually carry a back-pack with a fully stocked first aid kit, he knows how rescue somebody who is drowning, all the safety procedures for different vehicles/aircraft, CPR, and survival tactics (he actually knows more medical facts than Velma). Despite being so thin and lanky, he is almost always eating, sometimes thinking with his stomach rather than his head. He’s always happy to share though, and he even cooks great meals for his friends (mindful of allergies and what-not). Some background for him; he’s Canadian First Nations and Jewish on his mother’s side. He’s also trans, bi and ace~
Scooby was maybe the most difficult to draw… he’s so iconic, and I wasn’t sure how to draw him in this style but still make him look like Scooby. I’m not sure if I succeeded, but I think the result isn’t too bad. Shaggy found Scoob as a pup, and they have been best friends ever since. Like Shaggy, Scooby loves to eat and hates to be afraid, but he’s only a coward when something threatens him; if a monster or villain is going to hurt one of his friends, Scooby always comes to their defense. People forget that he’s actually a very big strong dog because he’s usually so gentle and silly. Scoob knows all sorts of trick from the typical “sit/roll-over/shake” to more impressive stunts. Although he loves attention and praise, the best way to get him to do anything is to bribe him with a Scooby Snack! He’s a very smart animal, and the fact that he can communicate when he smells or hears something suspicious that people might miss is a real asset for solving mysteries. Like any good dog, Scooby is loyal and lovable~

"they're p-p-probably on the first floor, I'll go check it out"
"I am behind you"
Tumblr media
"six bullets" you mumbled
"what the fuck?!" first burglar said
he aimed his pistol at you but you were faster, the second burglar looked at the already dead body and raised his hands as a sign of surrender, as fate would have it, your fingers automatically pulled the trigger a second time
now you had only four bullets and four dead boddies in your house, this is… comforting i guess"
"I think the burglar problem has solved it self" said somebody, he wasn't with the burglar, but his appearance was confusing, he wore white mask, yellow jacket and jeans "and now secend problem. Could I ask you to put your gun on the ground and kick it to me?"
.....
"No" you said "why would i do it?"
"you know... to make our job easier"
"what do you mean by our?" you asked
"sup kid!" second person apeard, this one wore mouth guard, googles, greyish sweater, blue hoodie underneath sweater and jeans "you were the one to kill them? that's cool you know :D"
you just stood there like a statue
masked guy also stood there
"toby? Is everything good in your head? you know, im just asking?"
"masky i know what im dooing, you could trust me this one time, just back off and let me talk"
"im going to regret that"
"sooo, continuing our nice chat, you've never thought about becoming a murderer?" toby asked me
masky just face palmed
"no, not really" you answered
"oh, b-b-belive me everyone has ever thought about what it would be like to kill an innocent person. You m-m-must have wondered what would happen if that big chandelier in the church fell on those innocent people, right? each of us has some wild urge to k-k-kill, even if it is deeply hidden"
"Even if, I don't think I could kill someone for no reason"
"And them?"
"They murdered my parents"
"i see only one gun on ground, and i heard two shots, let me g-g-guess the secend one surrendered but you didnt care right? dont even try lying to me i know the truth"
"fuck fuck fuck fuck, why am I sweating so much, maybe I should just shoot them, no, it would only prove his point, although if he's dead it won't do him any good, no i'm not type of person to shoot people right and left, after all he maybe right, atleast in some of what he said, i felt relieved after killing them" you thaught
"ok, your right, he did try to surrender, b-b-but i-i-i" your voice was trembling, you couldn't find any logic in your action's, you just didnt know what to do
"so continuing my offer, you can join us, have you ever heard of creepypastas? that's us, we will take you under the wing of professionals and teach you how to kill people professionally"
"you did not just advertise creepypasta to a kid"
"yes i-i-i did.... OH SHIT KID BEHIND YOU!"
you turned around and shot blindly, you hitted attacker and he just fell to the ground, you turned again and saw masky with a knife moving forward, he stopped the moment you turned around, he then just sighed and dropped his knife
"ok kid you won, im going to pick up my friend that you just shot, and I'll take care of him so he won't die ok? and toby... you know what to do if your shitty plan wont work" masky said. He picked his friend and then left us and exited the building
"your in kid? you know that if your not in i'll have to kill you ritgh? you know too much and we want to be little known among the public and even if i didnt kill, what will you do? how will you live with knowledge of us and fact that you just killed three persons"
"i just shot him, didnt masky said he will take care of him?"
"and what do you think takeing care of him means? it's already over for him, sorry to inform you i guess"
your eyes were watering, your legs were shakeing, your mouth was trembling
"What should i do, i like being alive" you thaught
toby then just walked to me, you tried to aim at him but you just couldn't force yourself to do it, you just didnt want to kill him, toby just pulled you into hug
"hey kid, there is no reason to stress that hard about it" toby said
"i-i-i think i will go with you" you said, your words trembling and your body still shaking in toby's hug
"Oh shit i just gaslightd them into becoming creepypasta" toby thaugh
yes... he indeed manipulated you into becoming creepypasta
"you can relax now kid, there is nothing to stress about" toby said ruffling your hair " you remind me of jeff"
"the killer?"
"ye, your hair look like him and you are little pale, oh, and how old are you and what's your name?"
you had black curly hair that reached your shoulders and you were slightly pale, but that was probably because of fear
"I'm 15, and my name is Victor"

Confrontation - 1/2
wednesday addams x reader
2.1k
summary:  Wednesday has started to neglect your relationship to solve the mystery. You finally confront her about the relationship going from dreamy to doomed because of it.
You had been dating Wednesday Addams for slightly under a year, and you knew that dating Wednesday would come with its challenges, she wasn’t as experienced with relationships as the rest of her peers, and its not like that bothered her, but she understood, as you did, that there would be struggles.
The push and pull effect she had on her relationships, the hot and cold – in her case, it being the lukewarm and the burning frost.
But it also came with its highs, the psychic doesn’t seem like it, but she could be soft, and sweet when she wanted to be.
There was the time in the quad where you were only in your school shirt with no blazer. How you kept thinking you could fight off the cold with your abnormal body temperature, Wednesday would never know, you were shivering in your spot every time. Teeth chattering and everything. She would offer you her coat, albeit not making eye contact as she held it out to you, a silent demand that you take the piece of clothing more than an actual offer. Of course, Wednesday would say you were distracting her from whatever book she was pouring over, her already deathly cold skin practically being immune to the cold weather.
She would walk into the classes you shared together, and stare at whoever had tried to sit next to you in the class with a murderous look in her eye until they related and moved. The top record for the student being able to hold out is 4 seconds. If she let you sit close enough for you thighs to be touching, she would deny it, or blame it on the extremely spacious table being too small to have a comfortable amount of distance, ignoring the fact that there was multiple open seats she could have taken instead.
And, of course, she would deny it if she ordered her coffee too sweet for her likings and push it in your direction. She would never traipse all the way to Jericho before classes just to get you a drink. No way. Never.
Except on Mondays, and Fridays.
And the occasional Wednesday afternoon trip after fencing.
But otherwise, no never.
Yet, there were still challenges. For example, you were currently sitting on Wednesday’s bed, as you had been doing for the past 45 minutes, wearing the black sweater she loved seeing you in, waiting for her to get back from wherever the fuck she had disappeared to this time.
No, you hadn’t just walked in uninvited and expected to find her waiting at your beck and call.
Because you had been. Invited that is.
She had stopped you in the corridor a day or so before when you were on your way to your next class demanding you be at her room at 10pm on the dot, as Enid was going to be with her “disappointment of a gorgon boyfriend,” doing whatever “mindless adolescent activities” the couple filled their time with.
Wednesday had flashed you a small, barely there smile, before threatening to “skin your wolf and keep its fur” in her dorm if you were late.
Ironic.
As you watched the digital clock on Enid’s side of the dorm finally mark the fact that you had been patiently waiting for an hour, you thought fuck it, if Wednesday wanted to spend time with you that badly, which apparently she did not, she would have to come and find you for it.
Clenching and unclenching your jaw as you laced up your shoes, you fought to not let your wolf form rip out if its inner cage. It’s not entirely shocking your usually impeccable self-control always came under question with Wednesday, no matter the emotion: happy, sad, disappointed, anxious, angry.
And right now? You were homicidal, the urge to tear at something fuelling the fire in your veins. This was the third time this week alone – you had lost count of how many times it had been over the last few weeks, to be honest - that Wednesday had left you alone and waiting like a dumbass, to not even show.
Did you get an apology? No.
Did she try to make it up to you in some way? No.
An explanation? You practically scoffed at the idea.
Walking – definitely not stomping, you were a werewolf, not a sulking child – towards the door, you had barely been able to move more than a couple of steps until the oh so great Wednesday Addams herself walked in.
“Y/n? Is everything alright?”
She sounded confused. Confused. The absolute fucking audacity.
“Where have you been?” you gritted out between your clenched teeth, watching as her perfectly shaped brow quirked up slightly. “I’ve been sat around waiting for you for an hour, Wednesday. an hour.”
Tracking her every movement with your eyes, as she placed her bag on the floor and slid her jacket over the back of her desk chair. You literally saw the cogs turning in her brain, watching the moment of realisation dawn on her from the way her eyes awkwardly flicked to yours for a split second, going to the door, and then back to yours. There was a quick flash of worry that flashed across her features, her mouth opening slightly and her gaze softening slightly, it would have wiped away your anger if the flash of emotion hadn’t disappeared as quickly as it had arrived.
“I had forgotten about our meeting, there is a storm tonight, and I didn’t want any possible clues at the monsters activities to be washed away,” usually, you adored Wednesday’s voice, but tonight the monotone way she drawled out her words made you want to gauge your eyes out with a rusty spoon. She’d probably like that actually. “It will not happen again,” she held eye contact with you, expecting you to follow on with the script that you had both unofficially constructed for yourselves over the past few weeks.
 It usually went like this:
Wednesday walking in on you lounging on her bed, prepared to wait until the early hours of the morning before you gave up on the girl showing up.
Her muttering a quick and meaningless “it won’t happen again,” you both knew it would.
You’d swallow up her obvious lie with an easy “oh, yeah no. totally. I understand,” following up with your questions about the investigation, getting one worded response. Until you turned to talking about your day, you’d get the usual ‘hmm’ every few sentences. Leading to the “so, do you want to hang out, still? Watch a horror movie, read together?”
And then the awaited dismissal, “Y/n, I appreciate you waiting for me, but it is late, and I have to review some events that occurred today. I shall see you for class tomorrow.”
And that was that. You’d walk out and wait until she stopped you again in a few days.
It wasn’t always like this, no, this was a recent development. You knew at times her obsessions may interfere with your relationship, that was okay, you didn’t need to be her number one priority all the time, you knew the raven was best at compartmentalising.
You just didn’t expect having to begrudgingly take the bare minimum for so long. You had hoped that eventually Wednesday would start acting like she wanted you again.
At this point you think you’d forgive her if she agreed to go on a walk around campus with you.
“No, we are not doing this again, Addams,” you saw the slight flinch at the use of her surname, instead of the plethora of loving nicknames you usually showered her with. “Listen, I understand that this is important to you, I do, more than anyone. I have dragged my ass into whatever decrepit house you asked me to, running from the literal monster that has killed umpteenth people in the woods because you can’t let this go. And that’s all fine and dandy. But I refuse, Wednesday,” you match her intense gaze with your own, you ignore the way you feel your claws digging into your clenched fists, actually relishing in the distraction the warm red liquid was seeping through your fingers gives you from the sweltering pain in your heart, “I refuse to be pushed aside time and time again until you finally deem me worthy of your time. Because this isn’t the first time, and we both know it won’t be the last until you solve the mystery. But are you really willing to lose everyone who loves and cares for you because of your god damn fucking obsession? I love you, and it feels like you barely acknowledge me anymore.”
You had a million things you wanted to say, but instead you just sighed dejectedly as she stared at you in silence, being the perfect image of indifference. Well, she would have been if it wasn’t for the thick layer of tears that covered her eyes, but no, like you had said, you weren’t going to push it all under the rug before it was unfixable simply because the Addams was emotionally constipated.
“If you truly understood, you would understand that there are sacrifices to be made,” her voice low, speaking slowly as if you were a dog who didn’t know how to ‘roll over’, “there are bigger things at play, I can’t lose an opportunity to know what is happening, it could bring me closer to finding out who the killer is.” She said this as if that solved everything, as if you were also meant to be focusing as heavily on the mystery as she was, as if, like her, you were meant to live and breathe it without thinking about anything else for a second.
Yeah, God forbid she thought of her girlfriend for longer than the two minutes it took to invite you over, only for her mind to be clouded over again when she left you stranded in the room, hoping Enid wouldn’t walk in and see your miserable figure in the room.
“There are more important things other than the monster, you know? There are trained professionals who can catch it, normie and outcast.” you wished you had left the room earlier.
“I am the one who is destined to solve the murders, I am the one who was in the drawing, I am the key to whatever is happening. I do not need you to be burdening me with this constant clinginess and desperation for my attention, this is what is important to me,” she had forced each and every word out of her throat, wishing she could ignore ethe way she saw your face contort as you fought of the tears at her words, as if every word cut you like a blazing dagger.
If Wednesday was being honest with herself, she was scared of the emotions that were waging a war within herself, the desire to know what monster has been leaving the masterfully carved bodies building in the morgue at an increasing rate, against the way she felt as if her very soul called out to you. To be held, and to be loved by you, to have your arms wrapped around her, to give herself a moments peace from the consistent inner monologue.
Wednesday had warned you that she would stomp all over your heart and leave you a bloody mess on the floor as she ripped your heart out from your body with a smile on her face at hearing your pained cries. She knew what she was, she wasn’t soft or sweet, she was cold and jagged, she was sour and cruel. Oh. how desperately Wednesday wishes she wasn’t, she wish she wants as she saw you hastily walk towards the door, barely holding back your sobs as you cried for the girl you loved.
The Addams has to force herself to stay where she was, her grip on her chair so tight her knuckles turned white, and the chair creaked.
Wednesday screwed her eyes shut as she fought her own wave of tears, her organs feeling s if they were tearing themselves apart repeatedly, the thumping in her ears overwhelming her, leaving her with an ache in her head. It was nothing compared to the hollowness in her own heart.
Once, she had told Bianca she cared more. But she wished she cared less at this very moment, she didn’t want to care that she had fucked up again, she didn’t want to care that she had reduced you to tears.
 But she did.
And now she didn’t know what to do.
---
a part two will be coming shortly! if you want to throw any ideas my way for a Wednesday x fem/GN reader, or maybe a wenclair fic, id be more than happen to listen!

Cold nights, warm hearts
hi guys <3 i have a little treat for you tonight!!
based on this post by the lovely @arcanescribbles , here's a small thing i wrote about cozy nights working in the lab and falling in love maybe <3
summary: you're a lab assistant at hextech, because the boys can't do everything themselves. viktor tends to spend long nights at the lab, and after working with him for a while, so do you.
and maybe it's not just work after a while. maybe it's nice and comfortable and right where you fit.
maybe it just works.
Viktor x gender neutral reader, 1.8k words, no warnings, just fluff <3
Tumblr media
It's not unusual, that he's spending his free time in the lab. The odds of finding Viktor either at his apartment or at work were about 50/50 at any given moment, day or night.
Actually, it might have been closer to 60/40, in the favor of the lab. Lately, he'd been spending more and more time there, and with a couch to sleep on and a coffeemaker tucked on one of the side tables, he didn't really need to go home that often.
It was one of the perks of working on independent research. He didn't need to clock in, he didn't need to clock out. He just needed to solve problems when it best suited him, which, in the case of Viktor, tended to be any time he was awake.
You know this. You knew this even before you started to work as a lab assistant in their project. He had a reputation, even as the often-quieter half of the team, people knew him. He was hard-working and dedicated, passionate. Smart.
Quick, people would say, sharp. Quiet in that way that made it clear that he was always listening.
You knew this before you ever even met him. He was focused on his work, and sometimes fit the 'outcast scientist' stereotype a little too well; smarter than a good percentage of the occupants of any room he was in, not that interested in social situations, rarely seen in public appearances. Working as many hours as he felt was needed.
Staying up late in the lab and then eventually falling asleep at his desk wasn't that strange of him.
You know this. You knew this before you met him. But after meeting him, after starting to work with him, it becomes more and more obvious that none of it was because he loved his work.
He did. But that wasn't the point. The point was that he was trying to help people, and he was way more interested in making that happen than he was in trying to prove to people that that's what he was doing.
He loved science, clearly, but that wasn't the reason he worked day and night. The real reason was the why of it all – the end goal. Making things better. Helping people. Building a future world that would be better than the one he'd grown up in.
And that makes it very, very easy to like him.
So, you don't complain about the late nights in the lab, either. He hadn't asked you to stay overtime – he never did – but you stayed anyway, sorting out parts and paperwork at your own desk as the sun was slowly setting.
It was Saturday, which meant two things. One, the Academy was quieter than usual, and two, Viktor was dressed more casually than usual. Instead of the standard uniform that he usually wore, he was just wearing a white dress shirt (unbuttoned, and so worn that it looked soft to the touch) and a dark wine-red sweater (slightly oversized, definitely worn, definitely soft), and his hair was a mess.
Which either meant that he had slept in the lab the night before, or that he had simply been running his fingers through it while figuring out some problem. Either option seemed equally likely. Or maybe it was both – that was entirely possible too.
You observe all of this silently, at the back of your mind, mostly still focused on your actual work. You didn't want to get caught staring at him, and you did also have work to do, but you could manage to multitask a little bit.
The work of an assistant in a project like this was – in their words, not yours – sometimes tedious, but important. This meant that it involved a lot of paperwork, sending in orders and requests for new parts and tools, keeping inventory, filing reports and reclamations, and filling endless spreadsheets that kept track of what Viktor and Jayce were actually doing.
That's what you were doing now. Going through old lists and trying to see what you needed to order more of. Checking the serial numbers of an old shipment of parts and trying to find where they went wrong, since they seemed to no longer match your records.
Viktor was...doing something, leaning over his desk, one hand in his hair, absent-mindedly turning a pice of hair between his fingers while he was deep in thought, one hand tapping a gentle rhythm on the edge of the table. Last time you checked, he had been fixing some part, trying to figure out why it wasn't working. Now, he was just looking at it, and you weren't sure if that was a sign of progress or not. He wasn't holding any tools, but he was also frowning slightly, so you were currently leaning towards the not option.
He takes a deep breath and sighs it out, and leans back in his seat.
You let yourself look at him now, properly.
”Anything I can help with?”
That's what you were there to do, after all.
”I'm not sure,” He answers, ”you're welcome to try. It's possible that I've just become snow-blind to these circuits by now.”
You smile a little, and turn to face him entirely. ”What's the problem?”
He is beautiful in the now-dim, golden sunlight. It paints the whole room in a warm dusty yellow that made it seem like maybe time had stopped working, like the whole world had paused to just breathe for a moment. He looked like he belonged here, surrounded by all these half-finished half-working half-miracles, built by hand from his imagination. Old books and used coffee cups, hand-drawn graphs and little notes left on pictures and trinkets and piles of paper. The tools scattered around his desk. That worn sweater. His tired smile.
He shifts in his place again, sitting up a bit straighter, and letting out a small sigh before he answers.
”This keeps short-circuiting,” He answers, ”And I don't know why.” He says it like he's almost offended by this, on a personal level. You mainly ignore this, chalking it up to the fact that it was very late, he had been working on this for a long time, and probably hadn't eaten or slept or taken a break in...way too long. And he was right; it was possible to become snow-blind to this stuff, looking at the same parts night and day.
He motions for you to come closer, a small nod towards his current project, and a casual wave of one hand.
You get out of your seat, smooth out your clothes a bit, and walk to him, then look over his shoulder to study the mess of tools, wires, and circuits on his desk.
”Just taking a break might help.” You offer, and he leans back slightly, but doesn't respond. ”Out of the two of us I think you're better at this than I am,” You add quietly, trying to find any obvious errors he might have missed, ”but I can try. Walk me through it?”
He does, shifting in his place a little again, and glancing at you briefly.
Honestly, you don't understand everything he says about the circuit. But that's not the point, and both of you know it. While he's explaining it to you, going through the progress, he has to lay it out for himself, too. And that makes it easier to catch any mistakes that might have gotten lost just swirling around inside his head.
He catches it mid-word, the problem. Some melted-together solder inside a component he had forgotten to check. You smile a little as he rearranges his train of thought, and instantly swtiches from explaining the process to figuring out a solution, leaning closer to the desk and already flipping the circuit board over, reaching for his tools.
Before he does anything else, though, he pauses before his fingers reach the soldering iron, and then he looks up at you.
”Thank you.” He says, voice gentle and sincere.
You smile at him, and try to ignore the way your heart felt like it was simmering in this moment, soaking all of this up for later, the traitorous thing.
He really was beautiful like this.
Especially now, when the frustrated creases on his face had smoothed out, and his posture had relaxed, and he was smiling at you like that.
”No problem.” You answer, and then take a deep breath, stretching your spine out and moving your neck a bit. Sitting at a desk all day wasn't the best thing you could do to your body.
He nods a little before picking up his tools again, gently turning the component over and examining the insides. You linger next to him, even though you strictly didn't need to anymore. But you'd take any good excuse to watch him like this, from up close, focused and with his fingers quick. Mouth pressed into a thin line in concentration. Breathing slow and steady.
”Once I'm done with this,” He says quietly, his eyes still focused on his work and his hands not breaking their movement – melting away a faulty connection with exact precision and bulding a working one in its place – ”do you want to take a break?” He offers, voice steady but somehow more careful than usual, ”I think there's a new self sevice drink cart in the main lobby. We could check it out. If you want.”
You blink as your brain processes the suggestion.
Usually, he just had his drinks here, or to go from whichever place was closest. Usually, he didn't suggest taking extra breaks, especially not ones that included invitations to go somewhere.
But the idea of walking the empty dark hallways with him alone in the quiet night? Going past the hall with the glass ceiling you could see the stars through? Getting coffee, or tea, or sweetmilk, or whatever they had to offer, with him, because he asked you to go?
Yeah.
That sounded a bit too good to pass up.
It made you feel like the late-night golden sunset light had all gathered in your heart and was now running in your veins, instead of just dissipating in the atmosphere somewhere.
It was yours now.
Or at least it could be, maybe. If you'd stay close to him, if he'd keep looking at you like that, smiling at you like that, maybe your heart would always feel like sunlight. Even during the dark, dusty nights.
Especially during the dark, dusty nights.
Besides, you could use the break.
”Yeah,” You answer, and it feels like the small word takes all the air in your lungs with it, ”that sounds nice.”
He smiles, just slightly. Just enough for it to be there. Just enough for it to matter.

part 2 - staying alive
part 3 - night fever
 .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Every weekend is a blessing for any High School Senior. No school work, no lectures, and no early morning alarms. This thought was enough to motivate you as you start your Saturday morning, and a peaceful breakfast with your father is just the most pleasant way to do so.
That was until he turned the television on.
And we’ll start the news with another mysterious death in the small town of Hawkins.
You could faintly hear the television in the living room as you were washing the dishes, the sound of rushing water blocking the reporter’s voice.
“Y/n! Look at this.” Your father called from the sofa, and you quickly wiped your hands dry and saw him pointing at the screen with wide eyes.
We’re in the Forest Hills trailer park in east Roane County. We don’t have a lot of details now, but we can confirm that the body of a Hawkins High student was discovered early this morning. Police have not yet released the victim’s name although we are told that they’re currently in the process of notifying the family.
You heard your father sigh, briefly lowering the volume of the television as he shook his head. “I’m starting to rethink why I chose this place to move in.” He mumbled.
It was four years ago when you and your father moved to Hawkins to restart your lives after the death of your mother. Everything was normal at first, but as each year passed and you got more entangled with a group of kids who seem to have ‘fighting with the supernaturals’ as part of their lifestyles, you have accepted the fact that Hawkins is far from normal.
You went back to the kitchen and resumed washing the dishes, thoughts still preoccupied about whoever was found at that trailer. Immediately after, you quickly put on a clean sweater and jeans before heading downstairs to grab your car keys.
“Woah, woah, where are you going?” Your father asked from his seat, confusion and a hint of concern in his eyes.
“I’m going to visit my friends at Family Video.” You shot him a small smile.
“Alright, but don’t take too long. And be sure to call me.” He said, warily dismissing you.
You nodded and began to start your car, fingers tapping the steering wheel as you drove to Family Video while listening to More Than A Woman. The ten-minute drive to the store passed by slowly, as you couldn’t wait to talk to your friends about what had happened.
You first met the kids a week after you moved to Hawkins. It was inevitable when the house that you and your father live in is just beside Dustin’s house. You would often see the boys take turns going to each other’s houses, sometimes with Max, El, and even Steve. Still, like Robin, you were only in action with the group once. And that was when they needed an extra hand against the Mind Flayer at the Starcourt Mall.
Arriving at the store, Robin was the first to notice you when you entered, a smile automatically appearing on her face as she walked from the ‘New Release’ section to where you are standing.
“Y/n!,” She said, which caught Steve’s attention and he immediately went towards you and Robin. You instantly felt brighter as soon as you made eye contact with the boy, almost forgetting about the recent issue in your town. “Have you heard? Someone was murdered.”
“Yeah.” You replied slowly, eyes flickering to the store’s television where the reporter is still ongoing with interviewing people. “Have they released any names yet?”
Steve shook his head sideways. “No, I doubt they will do that anytime soon.”
====================
Spending hours at Family Video is not new to you, and either to Steve or Robin. They’re grateful to have you as a company, your talking and laughing made their shifts faster and more tolerable according to Robin. But seeing you being awfully quiet, your brows pushed towards each other as you listen to the news, is not a sight that they are used to.
“Hey,” Steve said to you as you’re leaning on the front desk beside Robin. “You alright?”
You sighed. “This is weird.”
“Weird?”
“I mean, this murder. It just happened out of nowhere. And towards a student?” You wondered aloud, “This is unusual, Steve. Even for Hawkins.”
Almost immediately after saying that, you three were surprised to see Max and Dustin barging in.
“Hey. Steve.” Dustin greeted him, slightly panting.
“You see this?” Steve pointed at the television.
“How many phones do you have?”
“Someone was murd—”
“How many phones do you have?” Dustin repeated, his voice louder.
“Uh, two. Why?” Steve looked at you and Robin in confusion.
“Technically, three if you count Keith’s in the back.” Robin followed.
“Yeah, three works.” Max hurriedly said to Dustin, who slid his backpack on top of the counter and landed towards where Robin and you were seated.
“What are you—! My pile!” Steve panicked. “No, no, no! My tapes! Dude.”
Still having no idea what was going on, you quietly stood behind Max and Dustin as they continued to type on the computer while Steve and Robin muttered annoyingly under their breath.
Fed up with all the noise and questions, Dustin turned to Max “Can you just fill them in while I do this.”
“Fill us in on what?” You spoke for the first time since the arrival of the two.
Max took a deep breath before starting to explain everything.
====================
You didn’t know what exactly made your head hurt; maybe it was because of Max’s statements, the sleepless nights you’ve been having lately, or both. Your mind is still processing every piece of information that has been added to your knowledge regarding this case.
While your friends are busy looking for wherever Eddie’s drug dealer “Reefer Rick” may be, you excused yourself to the bathroom, earning a concerned expression from Steve which you quickly shrugged off with a smile.
You stood in front of the mirror, hands tightly gripping the sink and wincing slightly as another surge of headaches hit you. You had purposely hidden from your friends, not wanting any more questions.
A knock on the door made you look up from the sink. You must’ve spent a while in the bathroom. You quickly took a deep breath and checked your appearance, making sure that there is no trace of any discomfort on your face.
As soon as you opened the door, you saw Steve standing in front of you.
“We found him.” He said with a smile.
“Where is he?” You asked as you swiftly closed the door behind you, rushing to where your other three friends were cleaning up.
“2121 Holland Road, by the Lover’s Lake,” Dustin said triumphantly as he fixed his backpack.
“Come, I’ll start the car.” Steve began getting out of his work vest and changed into his usual jacket.
“Alright, I’ll be there in a minute.” You said, going over to the telephone to call your father and make up an excuse by saying you’ll be staying over at Robin’s for the weekend.
====================
As Max, Dustin, and Robin take turns informing Eddie of everything that you guys have found so far, you knew that the hope of having a peaceful weekend was thrown out of the window. Your headache only worsened after spending another sleepless night. Only this time, it isn’t because of a nightmare, but because you needed to go out and buy Eddie some supplies.
“Hunt the freak, right?” Eddie upsettingly said, fingers tightening around the box of popcorn that he was holding.
“Exactly.” Robin replied, earning a whispered “shit” from Eddie.
“So before that happens, we have to find Vecna, kill him, and prove your innocence.” Dustin butted in.
“That’s all Dustin? That’s all?”
“Yeah, that’s pretty much it.”
Shaking her head, Robin stopped the exchange between the two. “Listen, Eddie, I know everything Dustin is saying sounds totally delusional, but we’ve actually been through this kind of thing before. I mean, they have a… a few times, and Y/n and I have once.”
“Ours was more human-fleshed based, theirs was more smoke-related. But collectively, I think we got this.” You continued after her.
Steve nodded beside you. “Yeah, we usually rely on this girl who has super powers but, uh, those went bye-bye…”
“So, we’re technically in more of the…”
“Brainstorming phase.” Max finished for all of you as Steve and Dustin went on to assure Eddie that there’s nothing to worry about.
The sound of sirens caught all of your attention a few moments after. Eddie rushed to cover himself with a tarpaulin while the rest of you went towards the window, looking at a few passing police cars and an ambulance.
“I guess we know where we’re going next,” Dustin stated.
====================
“So you’re saying that this thing that killed Fred and Chrissy… it’s from the Upside Down?” Nancy questioned as all of you are seated on a picnic bench near Eddie’s trailer.
“Our working theory is that he attacks with a spell or a curse. Now, whether or not he’s doing the bidding of the Mind Flayer or just loves killing teens, we don’t know.” Dustin explained.
“All we know is that this is something different. Something new.” You spoke.
“Doesn’t make sense,” Nancy muttered.
“It’s just a theory,” Dustin said.
Nancy shook her head. “No, Fred and Chrissy don't make sense. I mean, why them?”
“Maybe they were just in the wrong place. They were both at the game.”
“And near the trailer park,” Max suggested.
“We’re at the trailer park…” Steve said. “Uh, should we maybe not be here?”
“There is something about this place.” Nancy agreed. “Fred started acting weird the second we got here. He was scared, on edge, upset.”
Dustin immediately picked up. “Max said Chrissy was upset too.”
Max sighed. “Yeah, but not here. She was crying in the bathroom at school.”
“Serial killers stalk their prey before they strike, right? So, maybe Fred and Chrissy saw this Vecman—”
“Vecna.” Dustin corrected Robin.
“I don’t know about you guys, but if I saw some freaky wizard monster, I would mention it to someone.” Steve looked around at the table, confusion written on his face.
“Maybe they did.” All eyes went to Max as she spoke. “I saw Chrissy leaving Ms. Kelly’s office. If you saw a monster, you… you wouldn’t go to the police. They’d never believe you. But you might go to your—”
“Your shrink.” Robin finished.
As usual, Steve was the first to notice that you’ve gone quiet. While the others are devising a plan to split your group into two, he leaned toward your ear.
“You okay?”
Startled, you faced him sideways. “Hmm? Oh, yes, I’m fine.”
Before he could ask further, your friends stood up and walked towards Steve and Nancy’s cars. Nancy said something about checking for something, in which you hastily volunteered to join, hoping that you could be of any help. Steve also volunteered after you, deep down not wanting to let you out of his sight because he is still unsettled about your behavior since yesterday.
In the end, You and Steve stayed with Max and Dustin, while Robin was the one to go with Nancy after finding out that she does not have a license and cannot drive the kids around.
Steve sent a few glances towards you as he drove to Ms. Kelly, but you kept your silence throughout the entire ride, head leaning back towards the passenger seat while you internally suffer another headache.
“Alright, we’re here,” Steve announced, followed by the sound of a car door opening as Max stepped out.
Shortly after seeing Max enter the house, you stepped out of Steve’s car, feeling suddenly suffocated from your seat.
“I’ll just wait outside.” You said as you swiftly closed the door, breathing heavily. You were too busy trying to steady yourself to notice that Steve followed you.
“Y/n, hey—” He stopped himself, standing beside you and taking your face in his hands. “Oh, god.”
“W-what?” You asked, suddenly aware that Steve is assessing your face closely.
“Here.” He hurriedly pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to you. It was only then that you felt something run down your nose.
“Oh.” You wiped the blood, slightly embarrassed but thankful.
“Are you sure you’re okay? Like, I know I asked you a hundred times since yesterd—”
“Steve, I’m fine. Really. It’s probably just because of the weather.” You waved your hand dismissively.
Steve eyed you suspiciously but decided not to say anything anymore. Still, he remained by your side during the entirety of waiting for Max. And for the first time in days, you feel calm.
Throughout your friendship, you only hid three things from Steve; the cause of your mother’s death, your growing feelings for him, and the nightmares that caused you to visit Ms. Kelly.
====================
The refusal of Ms. Kelly to enclose any information about Fred and Chrissy has led the four of you back to Hawkins High in the middle of the night. Thankfully, Max was able to sneak out the keys to the Counselor's Office, giving all of you access to the files.
You were hesitant to follow through with their plan, knowing that if they would go through the records, they would eventually find yours too. But it was too late when you noticed Max pulled out three folders from the drawers.
“Holy shit.” She whispered, catching yours, Steve’s, and Dustin’s attention.
“You found it?”
Instead of looking at Dustin, she slowly looked at you. “Yeah, and not just Chrissy’s. Fred was seeing Ms. Kelly too. And… Y/n?”
All heads turn to look at you as you tried to speak but nothing came out.
“Y/n?” Steve said worryingly.
“I had sessions with Ms. Kelly back in my freshman year, but it was only for a few months.” You tried to reassure them, but the expressions on their faces tell you that they know there’s something more. Sighing, you continued, “After that, I only had one more visit with her.”
“And… when was that?” Dustin asked slowly.
“Last Friday.” You noticed Max’s eyes went wide, while Steve and Dustin were still confused. “I was the person that Ms. Kelly was talking to before Chrissy.”
Max hurriedly sat down on Ms. Kelly’s desk, simultaneously opening the folders that she had in her hand, including yours. You sat beside her, flicking through each of the documents as you felt a soft hand on your back. You looked up to see Steve looking at you softly, and you gave him a small smile in return.
“The symptoms…” You snapped your attention back to Max as you heard her whisper, her eyes glued to the sheets.
“What?” You questioned. You leaned towards her side and looked over at the paper, recognizing Ms. Kelly’s handwriting.
Once you realized what the words were, you froze. Headaches, nose bleeds, nightmares. It was common in all of the three files.
You looked at Max, who returned your gaze. She looked like she was about to speak, but her expression turned blank, staring at your face with unmoving eyes.
“Max?” You said, looking at the girl unsurely. “Max. Hey!”
You placed your hands on her shoulders, shaking her slightly. This caught the attention of Steve and Dustin, who seemed to go over to the door to guard the room.
“What happened?” Steve said when he reached us.
“I don’t know!” You panicked.
You three continued to call for Max, and after a few seconds, she gasped.
“Woah, Max are you okay?” Dustin said, stepping away from the girl whose eyes are wandering around.
She stuttered, but before she could answer, you heard a set of footsteps from the hall. You stood up from your seat beside Max and walked towards the door with Steve.
“Come on, stay behind me,” Steve said to you and you nodded as you made your way towards the hallway.
Thankfully, the footsteps weren't from any guard. It was from Nancy and Robin. You immediately returned to the Counselor’s Office where Dustin is still asking questions about Max.
“What happened here?” Robin wondered, seeing the distressed expression of the younger girl.
Max finally found her voice and grabbed one of the flashlights from Dustin’s backpack. “Follow me.”
She led all of you towards a small hallway with a dead end.
“It was here. A grandfather clock was right here.” She breathed.
“A grandfather clock?” Nancy repeated, earning a nod from Max.
“It was so real. And then, when I got closer, suddenly I just… I woke up.”
“It was like she was in a trance or something.” You quietly said, the image of Max’s blank face still clear on your mind.
“Exactly what Eddie said happened to Chrissy.” Dustin continued.
Max turned to face you all. It was only then that you noticed a few nervous tears in her eyes. “That’s not even the bad part.”
She led all of you back into the office where the folders are still scattered on the desk.
“Fred and Chrissy, they both came to Ms. Kelly for help. Uh, they were both having headaches, bad headaches that wouldn’t go away.” She paused to look at you and shakily continued to enumerate the symptoms she found. “And then, the nightmares. Trouble sleeping. They’d wake up in a cold sweat. Then they started seeing things. Bad things, from their past. These visions, they just… they kept on getting worse and worse until eventually, everything ended.”
“Vecna’s curse,” Robin muttered.
You didn’t notice that Steve’s eyes were on you the whole time. He had so many questions, so many things that he wanted to clarify with you. He was slowly starting to understand what Max was trying to say, and why she kept looking at you. Yet, he refused to acknowledge any thought that threatens your life.
What you didn’t know is that your feelings towards Steve Harrington are very much reciprocated. He’s seen you at school before, but his pride and attitude as King Steve did not allow him to spend another thought on you. Though you weren’t exactly quiet because you like interacting with people, you were very straightforward in voicing your opinions. You had solid ground, always fighting for what you thought was right.
Although he would never admit it, he was infinitely grateful to Dustin for giving him the chance to properly meet you. It was a week after they had fought the demodogs underground, and Steve went over to the kids’ houses to check up on them. You were visiting Dustin after his mom invited you and your dad for dinner, and you did not try to hide your shock when you saw Steve Harrington visiting Dustin Henderson’s house.
There were no secrets between you and Dustin, as he already treated you like his older sister. So he was usually the one who tells you every detail of their adventures. At that time, it was hard to believe his stories about Steve’s involvement. You never saw him with any children while he was still in High School, how can you believe that he went through those troubles for a bunch of non-popular kids in middle grade?
Over time, your doubt left little by little. You saw how he genuinely cared for his friends, especially after Dustin. Sometimes it still amazes you that the Steve Harrington you knew from High School is the same as the Steve Harrington you visit at Family Video almost every day.
As Steve looked at you, he felt scared and angry. If he could trade places with you, he would.
Max’s voice interrupted his thoughts. “Chrissy’s headache started a week ago. Fred’s, six days ago. I… I’ve been having them for five days. I don’t know how long I have. All I know is that…” She paused, taking a deep breath as tears started falling from her eyes. “For Fred and Chrissy, they both died less than 24 hours after their first vision. And I just saw that goddamn clock, so… looks like I’m gonna die tomorrow.”
You stood closer to Max, placing your hand softly on top of hers.
“Wait, Y/n…” Dustin said, making all eyes turn to you. “When did yours start?”
“Four days ago.” You whispered. Now it’s Max’s turn to squeeze your fingers.
“Y/n? What—” Nancy was cut off by a loud crash from the hallway.
“Stay here,” Steve said, picking up a lamp before stepping outside the room.
The rest of you shared a glance and despite what Steve said, you all followed him outside. The sound of rapid footsteps made you hold your breath, and a series of screams left your mouth as the person revealed himself.
It was Lucas.
====================
After the arrival of Lucas, you and your friends decided to spend the night over at the Wheeler’s. You instantly borrowed their telephone as soon as the sun came out the next morning.
“Hey, dad.” You greeted him through the phone, slightly nervous about the inescapable scolding that you know will follow after not coming home for two days.
“Y/n! Where the hell are you?” You heard him speak.
“I’m here at the Wheeler’s. Nancy needed my help with… a paper they’re writing about Hawkins High. I’m sorry, it was sudden.” You said pathetically, hoping that he would not question you any further.
“Goodness! Do you know how worried I was? With all of these murders going around, I can’t have you wandering through town.” Your father said stiffly.
“I know. But I might need to stay a little longer here. I promise I won’t do anything stupid. Besides, Mrs. Wheeler is always here. She’s keeping an eye on us.” You said sweetly, silently praying that it’s enough to convince your father.
You heard him groan at the other end. “Alright, fine. But don’t go anywhere without adult supervision.”
“Dad, I’m eighteen! I’m an adult.”
“I know. It’s just a precaution.” He paused for a while before continuing with a softer tone. “Just… stay safe alright? And make sure you’re always with someone.”
Although he couldn’t see it, you smiled. “Alright. Bye, dad.”
You heard him bid you goodbye before dropping the call.
You walked back to the basement, finding Steve, Lucas, and Dustin seated on the sofa with pieces of paper surrounding them. You contemplated joining the boys, but your eyes noticed the younger girl at the bottom of the stairs, preoccupied with writing something on paper. You walked over to Max, quietly dragging a chair and bringing it over next to hers before sitting down.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” You gave her a small smile, and she tried to hide what she was writing by putting both of her arms on top of the paper.
“Tired... and scared. But I’m not going to sulk, not when it’s probably my last day living.” She tried to chuckle jokingly, but you’ve been friends with Max long enough to know when something is affecting her not.
“Don’t say that.” You shook your head at her, still keeping your voice down while the boys in the background were throwing questions at each other. “We’re going to find a way to save you, alright? I won’t let that Vecna monster take you away.” Similar to what you did the night before, you lightly held her hand.
Max looked like she was going to cry from your words. “How about you? Have you had any visions?” Max asked, trying to make the moment less emotional.
“No. But if your theory is correct, it’s only a matter of time before I get one.” You smiled sadly.
She looked away after seeing your expression and reached for an envelope with your name written on the back.
“What’s that?” You asked as she handed it to you.
“It's a fail-safe. You know, just in case things go sideways. Don’t open it now, though.” She said to you, now it’s your turn to get teary.
In three years of knowing her, you’ve seen Max go through a lot. You have seen her tough, throwing glares to whoever insults her friends. But you have also seen her vulnerable when she cried for hours after witnessing Billy’s death. You knew she tried to shake off the sadness, but you saw how she screamed for her brother that night. She was devastated, fearful, and crumbling.
You were surprised when she suddenly wrapped her arms around your shoulders.
“Thank you, Y/n. For everything.” Max whispered.
“Oh, Max.” You hugged her back, pulling her slightly closer.
Your exchange was cut off by the sound of an opening door. You all looked up to see Robin and Nancy hastily going downstairs, the latter was holding two folders in her hands.
“We have a plan.”
 ====================
Shortly after Nancy and Robin left for Pennhurst Asylum, and Max gave out the rest of her letters to the boys, you find yourselves in Steve’s car.
Max, who was pretty convinced that she was going to die despite your attempts to assure her that she won’t, insisted on visiting her home to deliver the remaining envelopes in her hand. Steve’s protests fell on deaf ears when the girl threatened him.
The stop at her house was quick, and now all of you are headed towards the cemetery.
Steve was able to find a parking spot, near enough for all of you to keep an eye on Max. Dustin and Lucas stood outside of the car, walkies at hand just in case.
“Why didn’t you tell us? Or at least, one of us.” Steve suddenly spoke, turning to look at you. His tone was low but kind, careful not to step over any boundaries.
You hesitated to answer but realizing that this could be the only moment you could have with Steve alone, you let your guard down. “I don’t know. I guess I thought I could fix it.”
“Fix what?” He asked.
“Everything.” You looked at him directly. “When the nightmares came back, the fear also came back. And I just thought that maybe something I did trigger it. But then these murders started happening, and Max and Dustin went on with their theories...”
“You knew?” Steve sadly asked, his own eyes dropping.
You nodded. “Yeah. I kind of pieced it together when Max mentioned Ms. Kelly. But I didn’t want to say anything because Max needs us right now and it would be selfish if I—“
“Y/n.” Steve stopped your rambling by placing his hand on top of yours that was relaxed on his dashboard. “Asking for help isn’t selfish, alright?”
You sighed, wanting to agree with him but you’ve always put your friends first. Before the conversation could go longer, Lucas peeked through Steve’s open window.
“Steve, how long has it been?” His eyes traveled to Max, who was still in the same seated position.
But she was steady.
You sneaked a few glances at her during your conversation with Steve. Her head would move every once in a while, looking at Billy’s gravestone and back to the letter. But now, she’s steadily staring ahead.
Before Steve could count the minutes on his watch and answer Lucas, you went out of the car towards Max.
“Y/n? What ar—“
“Hey! Max!” You jogged to her place, noticing that she didn’t look at you when you called her. It was only when you were right beside her that you noticed her eyes. Blank, shaking and covered with a white hue. “Max? Max! Guys!”
The rest of your friends hurriedly went towards you and Max after hearing your panicked shout. You and Steve continued to call for her, while Lucas had his hands firm on her shoulder as he shook her. Dustin was way ahead of all of you, already contacting Robin and Nancy through his walkie.
The next moments were just screaming from the four of you. Max remained unresponsive, and tears were already building up in Lucas’ eyes.
“C’mon! This is code red! Robin, do you copy!”
“Yes, yes, we copy!” You heard Robin’s voice on the other end, and you swore Dustin almost fainted in relief when she replied.
“Holy shit! Finally! What have you guys found?”
“Music! Make her listen to music.”
“Exactly what music?”
“Her favorite song! She has to have a connection with it.”
Not bothering to reply to Robin, Dustin ran back to the car, went through the window, and gathered Max’s cassette player and tapes.
“What’s her favorite song?” Dustin asked as soon as he dropped the tapes in front of us. Lucas scrambled through it, finally handing the right one back to Dustin who placed the headphones on Max.
You were all anxious as you waited for something to happen. Lucas increased the volume so much that even the four of you can hear it.
“Max! Come back to us, please!” He pleaded.
Then her body started to lift, frightening all of you. If you remember Eddie’s recollection of Chrissy right, you know what’s next. Lucas was fully crying as you all stared at Max’s body. He tried to reach her ankles but she was farther.
The next few seconds were tense. You were all afraid that the song might come to an end before Max could come back. But as you heard a deep breath coming from the girl, you were relieved.
Max fell to the ground, and Lucas wrapped his arms around her. It worked.
====================
As soon as you all gathered back to the Wheelers’ basement, Dustin filled in everything with Robin and Nancy. You took a seat on the couch, eyes dropping from all the tiredness and lack of sleep.
“Take a nap first.” You felt Steve position himself beside you, legs stretching outwards after driving around town.
Nancy, who heard Steve, agreed with him. “He’s right. We need to take a rest for a while. I can keep watch first, just in case.”
You all nodded, spreading yourselves around the basement to find a comfortable position.
“Feel free to use me as a pillow.” Steve jokingly said as he patted his shoulders. You let out a small laugh, slightly leaning on his side of the couch before closing your eyes.
====================
When you all woke up from your nap an hour ago, you didn’t expect to be coming to Victor Creel’s house. Nancy shared something about how this might be Vecna’s lair, which only led to more questions about why he would choose Victor’s house out of all places in Hawkins. Most importantly, what was the grandfather clock in Max’s vision doing in its hallway.
You all scattered around the house, trying to look for more clues that could give an answer to at least one of your questions. You were about to get inside another bedroom when you heard mumbles from the hall, seeing Nancy standing behind Steve as she pulled something out from his hair.
Your heart tugged a little as you walked away as quietly as you can, trying to go unnoticed by the two.
You heard a lot about Nancy and Steve’s relationship back in high school. The most popular boy with the smartest girl. According to most people, it was a match that seemed very unlikely yet perfect. Even now, as you look at the two, it is no wonder why they fell for each other.
In hopes of distracting yourself and finding more clues, you made your way down the stairs.
A mistake.
Barely five steps down, you felt cold, chills running down your back and arms. Your surroundings got darker as if someone closed the torn curtains over the broken windows of the house. But what caught your attention was the grandfather clock at the bottom of the stairs.
Minutes ago, it was broken. You could hardly recognize the numbers from how much dust and webs it collected over the years. Now it’s perfectly ticking, one tick louder than the next.
“Y/n.”
You flinched from the voice you didn't recognize. It was loud, deep, and terrifying. Yet you couldn’t find its source.
“Steve! Max! Guys!” Panicking, you ran back up, but your friends were nowhere to be seen.
The voice got louder as you ran through the halls, checking and opening every door that you could find in hopes that one of them could help you escape.
“You can try to run but I will find you.” It said tauntingly. “Your time will come to an end soon.”
A dead-end made you stop running. You prepared to turn around, still determined to find a way out. But you were shocked when an invisible force pushed you backward, making you stumble a step.
====================
You weren’t aware that Nancy and Steve actually saw you walk past them. It was mere seconds, but Nancy caught the way Steve perked up when he saw your form.
“You like her don’t you?” She whispered to him teasingly as she continued to remove the spider webs from his hair.
“W-what? No, I don’t.” Steve replied, suddenly thankful that Nancy couldn’t see his face as he felt his cheeks warm up. Though his stuttering gave him away.
She replied with a knowing “Hmm”, making Steve groan.
“Am I obvious?” He mumbled.
“Very. It isn’t hard to notice the way you look at her.” She smiled, also discreetly aware of how you looked at the boy.
She heard Steve sigh as he turned around, making Nancy stop picking on his hair. “I’m worried about her. I know she hasn’t experienced any visions— thankfully, but what if she does and we’re not there to save her?”
Nancy saw nothing but sincerity in the boy’s eyes, but she didn’t get a chance to reply after hearing Robin yell.
“Guys! Help, it’s Y/n!”
Steve was the first to run, following Robin’s voice and finding her at the top of the stairway. Her hands are on top of your shoulder, shaking you while you remain motionless.
“What happened?!” Steve said, lightly pushing Robin and replacing her hands with his. “Y/n?”
“I-I was on my way down and I saw her just standing here.” She explained, nervousness in her voice.
The rest of your friends have already gathered to where you are; Max’s eyes were wide as she realized what was going on. “She’s having a vision.” She whispered.
Steve, who was still trying to wake you up from whatever is pulling your conscience away, clearly heard Max’s words and panicked even more. It was just a minute ago when he was telling Nancy how scared he would be if this happened to you.
The moment that you returned, you let out a gasp, startling the rest. Steve felt like he could cry from relief after seeing your eyes move again, and he immediately pulled you into a hug.
“God, don’t scare me like that again.” He whispered to your ear, seemingly forgetting that all of your friends are looking at the two of you.
You were still catching your breath, and your brain took a while to notice that your face was pressed against Steve’s chest. You hugged him back quickly, muttering a quiet “I’m okay” and then pulled away eventually.
Max was the first to approach you when let go of Steve. “Tell us what happened.” She pleaded.
“I saw the clock.” You simply said, trying to remember every detail that you saw from your vision. You saw the way their faces dropped after you said it, and you knew that you didn’t have to explain anything else because they know what it means for you.
You’re Vecna’s next target.
====================
After your first vision, Steve refused to let you out of his sight. You and he stayed outside of the Creels’ house while your friends continued to search around, finding out that the Upside Down version of the attic is possibly where Vecna recharges his powers.
Still shaken up from what happened, you asked the group to make a short stop at your house. There are two things that you need to do; get a cassette player, and see your father.
Nancy volunteered to drive, while you were in the middle seat between Max and Steve. You leaned your head on his shoulder throughout the ride, while Max had her right arm hooked with your left.
“We’re here, Y/n,” Nancy announced as she parked in front of your house.
“Thanks, Nance. I’ll be quick.” You shot her a quick smile. Steve moved out of the car to allow you to do the same, but you raised your eyebrows when you noticed him following you to your front door. “You’re coming?”
“Can’t leave you alone again, Y/l/n.” He joked, eyes twinkling that you almost forgot you were cursed.
Before you get entranced by his smile, you stepped towards your house. The front door was locked, so you had no choice but to knock. Your father looked relieved when he saw your face.
“Y/n!” You threw yourself nearer to him and he opened his arms for a hug. “Oh, Steve. You’re here too.” Your dad smiled at the boy behind you. Everyone does like Steve Harrington.
Steve smiled in return as your dad ushered you both inside.
“So, how is Nancy’s paper going?” He asked.
“Paper?” You shot him a confused look, forgetting about the excuse that you made a day ago. “Oh! Yes, yes, it’s going great! Steve’s also helping her.”
Your dad nodded. “So, you’re staying tonight?”
Your heart dropped, the lingering thought of the curse suffocating you. “I can’t, dad. I’m sorry. I just stopped by to get some… stuff that I need.”
You’re oblivious to the fact that your father knew you very well, and he is certainly sure that you are not telling him the truth. But as he stared at you, assessing the tone of your voice and the emotions in your eyes, he didn't want to hold you back. He trusts you, and he knew that you would eventually tell him what’s going on when you’re ready.
“Do you need me to assist you?” Your father asked softly.
You shook your head with a smile. “It’s okay. I got it.”
He watched as you and Steve stepped upstairs, letting out a sigh before going to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, you started digging through your cabinets as soon as you reached your bedroom to search for your cassette. Steve took charge in going through the tapes, eyes flicking through the song titles.
“Found it.” You whispered under your breath when you spotted it. You were stunned when you stood up and saw Steve leaning against your door, smiling smugly. “What?”
He waved a very familiar dark purple audio tape. “Your favorite.”
Saturday Night Fever - “More Than A Woman” by the Bee Gees
“Damn, how’d you know?” You chuckled, trying to shake off the fluttering feeling that he knows your favorite song.
“Are you kidding me?” He exaggeratedly said. “There isn’t any idle moment when you aren’t singing this. You even kept the extra tape for your car.”
You laughed, remembering all the time that Robin had to shut you up because you wouldn’t stop singing the song. But your happiness was cut off short when you realized that your life now depends on that small tape that he was holding.
Steve sensed the change in your expression and quickly understood. “Hey, you’re going to be fine. We saved Max, we’ll save you too.” He smiled comfortingly.
You nodded, motioning that you need to go back to your friends who are waiting outside.
“Y/n.” Your dad called you before you got the chance to take a step out of your house. He pulled you into another quick hug. “Stay safe, alright?”
You hugged him tighter, suddenly fearing that this could be the last time you’ll ever see him. “Promise. I’ll see you soon, dad.”
You pulled away slowly, giving him another look before walking back to the car with Steve.
“Alright, we’re going to Eddie next,” Dustin announced.
====================
You felt another wave of terror when your group was supposed to bring more supplies to the cabin that Eddie is hiding in, but instead found the police and media surrounding the lake.
Another Hawkins High student was found dead.
The rumbling of Dustin’s walkie caught your attention, immediately identifying the voice on the other end as Eddie’s.
“Dustin, can you hear me? Wheeler?”
“Eddie, holy shit. Are you okay?” Dustin whispered back.
“Nah, man. P-pretty goddamn far from okay.” Eddie chuckled.
“Where are you?”
“Skull Rock. You know it?”
“Yeah. That’s near Cornwallis and—”
“Garrett, yeah. I know where that is.” Steve finished for Dustin.
“Hold tight. We’re coming.”
====================
You were thankful that your shoes are made for running.
Dustin and Steve’s bantering on the location of Skull Rock had you change your route three times already.
“Oh, boom! Bada bing bada boom. There she is, Henderson.” Steve said, pushing away a few bushes. “In your face, man.”
“Steve.” You shot him a scolding look for his words, shutting him up.
“Doesn’t make sense,” Dustin whispered under his breath but quickly ran up to Eddie when he saw him. “There you are! Jesus, we thought you were a goner.”
Eddie patted him on the back. “Yeah, me too, man. Me too.”
The next minutes were spent on filling Eddie in with everything you guys have found. Starting from Nancy and Robin’s visit to the Pennhurst Asylum, up to your recent vision.
“Wait, Y/n? You too?” Eddie looked at you with wide eyes.
You nodded sadly.
“Oh, shit.” He replied shakily, eyes darting from you to Dustin who was pacing back and forth. “Hey, uh, Henderson’s not, uh, cursed, is he?”
“Cursed? No, no. He’s fine.” Steve said. “Mental? Absolutely.”
“Boom!” You all flinched, surprised when Dustin shouted while pointing at Steve. “Bada… bada… boom. I was right.”
Steve rolled his eyes.
“Skull Rock was north.”
“Seriously? You’re serious?! This is Skull Rock. Okay?” He dramatically pointed his hand towards the gigantic rocks. “You’re totally, absolutely, one hundred percent wrong. Right now!”
Dustin looks unaffected by Steve’s bursts, muttering a few “mhmm” while smiling cheekily. “Yes… and no.”
“Oh my god.” Steve threw his hands, stepping closer to you while glaring at Dustin.
“This compass worked correctly when we left the Wheelers.” He began to explain. “It was correct when we got in the car in Curly, but it started to slip the further east we went. Now, it’s way off.”
You all looked at each other, not understanding what he was saying.
“When I was leading us here, I wasn’t wrong. The compass was.”
“So you’re using faulty equipment. You’re still wrong.” Steve butted in, and you gave him a slight shove to shut him up.
“Except, it isn’t faulty.” Dustin pointed at him before turning to Lucas. “Lucas, remember what can affect a compass?”
Lucas, who seemed to be getting what Dustin is talking about, quickly replied. “An electromagnetic field.”
“I’m sorry, I must've skipped that class,” Robin said.
“In the presence of a stronger electromagnetic field, the needle will deflect towards that power. So either there’s some super big magnet around here, or—”
“There’s a gate.” Lucas finished Dustin’s statement.
“We’re nowhere near the lab,” Nancy spoke for the first time in a while.
“But what if, somehow, there’s another gate? A gate that we don’t know about. It’d have to be smaller. Way less powerful.” Dustin explained.
“Snack-size gate,” Robin said.
“How? Why?” You asked.
“No idea. All I know is that something is causing this disturbance, and the last time we’ve seen anything like this, it was a gate. And I hope it is because we would have a way to Vecna, and a shot at freeing Max and Y/n from this curse.” Dustin went running, but Steve stopped him.
“Where are you going? Hey!” Dustin stopped, looking at a stressed Steve. “Eddie is still a wanted man. We can’t just go for a hike in the woods.”
Having enough from Steve, Dustin raised the compass in his hands. “This little steel capsule might be the key to saving Y/n, Max, and Eddie.” He turned directly to Eddie. “What say you, Eddie the Banished?”
All of you turned to Eddie who had been quietly sitting.
“I say you’re asking me to follow you into Mordor, which, if I’m totally straight with you, I think is a really bad idea.” He looked up. “But, uh, the Shire… the Shire is burning.”
Dustin hops adorably.
“So Mordor it is.” Eddie stated.
====================
If you thought the walk to Skull Rock was long, walking through the woods is even longer. What is even more annoying is that Dustin’s compass just led you back to the Lover’s Lake.
“There’s a gate in Lover’s Lake?” Max wondered aloud.
“Whenever the demogorgon attacked, it always left an opening,” Nancy answered. “Maybe, Vecna’s the same way.”
“Only one way to find out,” Steve said.
Your eyes noticed a small boat tied to a tree nearby, and you immediately made your way toward it.
“Where are you going?”
Ignoring Steve’s question, you untangled the rope and pulled the boat nearer to your group. Eddie and Steve took hold of each side, steadying the object.
Robin was the first to get in, placing her hands on the two boys’ heads to maintain her balance. Eddie followed, then Nancy, then you.
“Are you sure about this?” Steve asked you as he offered his hand.
“Yeah. Enough worrying, Harrington.” You smiled at him as he followed you in.
“Wait, Y/n!” Max called out for you. “Do you have your cassette?”
You nodded, turning to your side to show the small cassette player tucked in your back pocket.
Dustin walked forward, ready to join your group but Eddie and Nancy stopped him, insisting that he and Lucas should stay with Max. He reluctantly handed the compass, shaking his head as he stepped back with the other two.
Trying to lighten the mood, Robin yelled for them as she and Eddie paddled. “Bedtime at nine, kiddos! Miss you already!”
After around three minutes, the five of you were perfectly at the center of the Lake. Nancy asked to slow down the boat, the compass in her hand spinning wildly.
You noticed Steve taking off his shoes and socks. “Woah, Steve. What are you doing?”
“Somebody’s got to go down and check this out. Unless one of you four can top being a Hawkins High swim co-captain and a certified lifeguard for three years, then… it’s gotta be me. No complaints, alright?”
“Hey, I’m not complaining. I don't wanna go down there.” Eddie said nervously as he looked at the pitch-black reflection of the waters.
On the other hand, you were about to say something when Steve took his sweater off and you felt your throat go dry. Little do you know that Robin was looking at you, fighting the urge to laugh at your reaction.
Eddie handed Steve a flashlight wrapped in a plastic bag. “Good luck.”
“Steve.” You held his hand and looked up at him. “Be careful.”
He almost forgot what he was about to do as he stared at you, face illuminated by the moon. Instead, he smiled and rubbed the back of your hand with his fingers. “Will do. Enough worrying, Y/l/n.”
Turning back, Steve dove right into the water.
Barely two seconds after he did so, you looked at Nancy anxiously. “How long has it been?”
“Relax, Y/n.” She laughed a little. “He’s going to be fine.”
Despite her assurance, you couldn’t stay still, your eyes locked on the water. A minute later, you almost fell back in shock when Steve raised his head on the surface.
“I found it,” Steve said, panting. A series of cheerful exclamations followed your group at his statement.
“Dustin, you are a goddamn Einstein. Steve found the gate.” Robin said, communicating with the kids through her walkie.
“Come on. Grab my hand.” You reached Steve with your right hand.
Before he could grab yours, however, he was pulled back under the water.
“Steve!” You shouted, your panic turned into horror when you saw no sign of Steve.
“What the hell was that, man?!” Eddie screamed behind you.
Without another thought, you stood up on the edge of the boat, taking off your shoes as Steve did a while ago.
“Woah. Hold on. Y/n, where are you going?” Robin asked, one hand holding your arm.
“I can’t leave him there alone, Robin.” You said determinedly, pulling your arm away from her grasp.
“Y/n— no!” You heard Nancy yell after you, but you already jumped into the water.
You weren’t the best swimmer, but you didn’t care. You had one thing on your mind, and that is to save Steve.
Your eyes widened when you spotted the gate, its dark red color made you nervous. But you swam right through, shocked when you realized that the other end was dry.
You were panting as you pulled yourself up, legs slightly shaking from tiredness. Taking in your surroundings, you noticed the familiar trees around you.
This is the Lover’s Lake in the Upside Down. Only this lake was dry, and dark thick vines covered almost the entire floor.
You heard a pained yell from behind you, your heart pumping faster when you laid eyes on Steve. You ran towards him and grabbed a paddle from a nearby boat that looked the same as what your group had used.
“Steve!” You yelled, hitting one of the demobats that attempted to go near you.
Steve spotted you, but his screams were cut off when one of the bats wrapped his tail around his neck. You went near him, using the pack of the paddle to crush the creature’s head.
Once its tail was loosened, you helped an injured Steve get up. “Come on. We need to get out of here.”
“Y/n! Steve! Look up!” You heard Robin’s familiar voice. You were stunned for a moment when you spotted her running with Nancy and Eddie.
“Shit,” Steve muttered, bracing himself.
You looked up, seeing another group of the demobats.
Nancy grabbed the other paddle from the same boat, while Eddie, Steve, and Robin aimed for their tails.
You didn’t know how long this occurred, but you were overcome with relief when you saw Eddie slam the last one to the ground. You all sighed, chests heaving from the swimming and physical fight that happened consecutively.
“Jesus H. Christ!” Eddie screamed, shaking his head.
You ran to Steve, eyes searching for more injuries. “Are you alright? How are you feeling?”
“Well, they took about a pound of flesh. But other than that, yeah, never better.” Steve tried to hide his pain by chuckling, but the action made him wince even more.
“This isn’t funny, Steve. We need to get out of here.” Your eyes were glued to his sides, stomach turning to the sight of running blood.
The sound of screeching caught all of your attention, and you spotted more demobats heading toward the lake.
“The woods. Come on.” Nancy said, motioning for all of you to follow her.
The run through the forest was painful for your feet, but you couldn’t imagine how Steve was feeling with his open wounds. You eventually reached the Skull Rock of the Upside Down, and Nancy gave you a torn piece from her clothes as a bandage for Steve.
“You alright?” Steve asked you quietly as you reached around his back, his own eyes searching for any scrape on your face.
“Don’t worry about me.” You dismissed him quickly, finishing up the make-shift bandage by tucking the ends. “There, all done.”
Steve held your hand, looking from his wound back to your face. “Thank you, Y/n.”
You gave him a nod and tugged on his hand, silently asking him to sit on the ground with you to take a rest. But as soon as you did, you remembered something and you froze.
You hurriedly pulled the cassette player from your back pocket, eyes widening in fear when you noticed that it was broken and leaking with water.
“Shit, St—“ You looked back up, expecting to see Steve but none of your friends were there. The sky was still tinted with the red color, but there was smoke forming around the ground that you were standing on. You froze, already having an idea what is going on.
“Y/n...” You heard the echo of the same dark voice from your first vision.
“What the fuck do you want from me?” You angrily said, looking around you. A tall silhouette on your left made you shudder when you noticed that it was heading toward you.
“You think you can save your friends. You weren’t even able to save your mother.” It taunts, the voice getting louder as the figure gets closer. “Your time will end soon, Y/n.”
You recognized the same ticking sound that you heard from Victor Creel’s house, and you noticed the grandfather clock embedded in one of the rocks.
On the other end, Steve had his hands on your cheeks. He witnessed the way your arm limped to your sides, dropping the cassette to the ground. Your face turned upwards as if looking directly at someone. But your eyes were unmoving, and your mouth slightly opened. It was the same expression that you had a few hours ago in the mansion.
“Y/n! C’mon, you have to listen to me. Y/n!” He kept yelling for you. Nancy and Robin were also trying to shake your hands, while Eddie is on the verge of a breakdown.
Like the first time, you gasped when you regained your body. You were scrambling away from Steve as your mind wasn’t able to process that you were back with your friends.
“Woah, calm down. You’re alright.” Steve tried again to come near you. This time, your eyes steadied at him, and you wrapped your arms around his shoulder.
Steve comforted you as he hugged you back. He could feel you tremble in his arms; his heart broke as he wished he could take you away from all of this.
You pulled away after a minute, and Nancy was quick to formulate another plan after you assured her that you were okay.
“We need weapons. We’re going to need everything that we can use to defend ourselves. And we also need a music player.” She stated.
“Where are we gonna get those?” Eddie asked.
“Oh, and another follow-up question. Do music players work in the Upside Down?” Robin continued slowly.
“I don’t know, but we have to try,” Nancy said, looking at you. You gave her a small quick smile as a sign of gratitude and the girl was quick to return it. “We need to go to my house. We can find all of those things there.”
“Wait, you said weapons. What exactly are the weapons in your house?” Eddie wondered.
“Guns. I have guns.” Nancy said, her tone flat.
Eddie was left with his mouth open, stuttering more questions about how Nancy Wheeler has guns. Plural.
Nancy simply laughed and started walking, Robin following closely behind her.
Steve positioned himself beside you, but Robin linked her arms with yours, pushing you in between her and Nancy.
Annoyed, Steve glared at the back of his friend’s head but he saw Eddie pushing a denim vest in front of him.
“For your modesty, dude.” Eddie said, earning a muffled “thank you” from Steve.
A few minutes have passed and you were laughing with the two girls as you walked. Steve stared softly at you, happy that you were smiling despite the circumstances. He would rather throw himself into the group of demobats than let anything hurt you.
He felt terrified. Based on his understanding of Eddie’s story and Max’s experience, Vecna’s victims are only given three visions— you just had your second.
“It’s very metal, what you did. That’s all I’m saying.” Eddie’s voice interrupted Steve’s thoughts. “You know, personally I would never jump in that lake to save your ass. No offense. But Y/n, right there, she didn’t waste a second. Not one second. She just dove right in.”
Eddie was careful to keep his voice down, and Steve’s eyes traveled from him to your figure.
“From what I heard, you two are just friends. But let me tell you, dude, what she did is more than just a friendly act.”
“She shouldn’t have done that,” Steve replied with the same volume. Meanwhile, his mind imagined what Eddie just said. You, jumping right after he was pulled down. Why would you risk yourself from him?
“But she did.” Eddie shrugged, a smile forming on his face.
Steve didn’t speak, trying to pretend that he was more interested in the trees. Yet his mind was on you— not the first time though. He felt an ounce of hope, a voice in his head saying that you feel the same way. But the other voice doubts, threatening him that this might ruin your friendship.
A few minutes more and you find yourselves out of the forest, walking on the cemented floor instead of soil.
“Right there.” Nancy pointed at her house, slightly walking faster.
You were both relieved and creeped out by the sight of the Wheelers’ house. The color remains the same, but the same thick vines that you saw earlier were wrapped almost entirely around its exterior, and some branches were able to puncture through the glass windows.
“Come. My guns are upstairs.” You all followed Nancy to her bedroom door, but she turned to look at you before you could enter. “Oh, Y/n, most of the audio tapes are in my parents’ bedroom. I’ll grab my player for you.” She said, pointing at the door next to hers.
“I’ll go with you,” Steve said from beside you and you nodded, quickly thanking Nancy.
Her parents’ room was a bit bigger than hers, but you didn’t have any trouble finding the tapes, seeing them displayed on a work table. You crouched down, eyes dragging quickly over every piece.
“Got it.” You said, pulling out the same tape that you brought from your house.
You were prepared to leave the room, but you stopped when you noticed Steve quietly sitting on the bed. His fingers were picking through Eddie’s denim jacket.
“You alright there?” You asked, walking over to him.
“You have to stop worrying about me. It’s you that we have to save.” He answered, eyes looking at yours.
You sat beside him and smiled. “Well, hopefully, this tape works.”
“I’m sorry.” You heard him whisper, brows furrowed in confusion.
“Sorry? Sorry for what?”
“For not noticing what you were going through.” Steve looked at the tape in your hand. “If I noticed, I could’ve helped you earlier and—”
“Steve.” You said sternly. “You have nothing to apologize for. I chose to hide.”
He went quiet, eyes still dropped low.
“Do you remember when I told you how my mother died?” You whispered. You were still hopeful that you could escape Vecna’s grasp; if Max survived, so can you. But just in case things go unsuccessfully, you don’t want to regret not telling the truth.
“A car accident,” Steve said hesitantly.
You nodded, gulping before proceeding to talk. “There was this girl in my class who was popular, and she was going to celebrate her birthday but only those with invitations could come. I was surprised when she gave me one, but I was so flattered.” You chuckled, shaking your head at your ridiculousness when you were younger. “I asked my parents if I could join, but my mom was against it because she knew I wasn’t anywhere close to that girl.
I was so annoyed. I mean, when I look back at it now, it does sound stupid. I probably didn’t even have any conversation with her, but my thirteen-year-old self was persistent. So I sneaked out to the party and asked one of my friends to cover for me. But my mom knew me very well and eventually found out where I was. I have never seen her so disappointed.
She picked me up that night, and while we were on our way home, it started raining. The rest of my memories were blurred, but I couldn’t forget how terrified she looked. The next thing I know is that I was in the hospital. I saw my dad cry for the first time as he told me that mom was gone. The police said something about losing control of the brakes but it didn’t register to me. If I just listened to her, she’d still be alive.”
You didn’t realize that you were tearing up until you felt Steve hold your hand, squeezing it as he wrapped his other arm around you.
“We moved to Hawkins after a few months because it was just painful, everything in our house reminded us about her. But it still wasn’t easy. I had to go to Ms. Kelly because my nightmares weren’t stopping. Then I met the kids, you, Nancy, and Robin, and I felt like I could breathe again. But then, of course, this monster curses me.”
You had tears freely falling down your cheeks at this point. Steve pulled you closer to him as you cried, your face tucked between his shoulder and neck.
Steve didn’t know what to say— he was never the best at comforting. But you didn’t need to hear any words, content with the feeling of Steve’s hands running up and down your hand.
“We’ll save you alright? I won’t let anything happen to you.” He whispered, and without thinking, he pressed a small kiss on your forehead.
You look up to meet his eyes, your own pair slightly wide from the unexpected affection from Steve. When he saw your expression, his brain seemed to register what he’d done.
“Oh, uh, I… s-sorry.” He stuttered.
Steve Harrington was never the one to stutter in front of girls. He always knew what to say and how to say it; but with you, he always felt like he was lost for words. Now, as he looked at your face, traces of tears still evident on your cheeks after letting him see your vulnerability, he wanted nothing else than to hold you forever. But he needed to tell you the truth first.
“Y/n.” He started slowly, trying to formulate his words. “I-I know this isn’t really the best time to say it but…”
Here goes nothing.
“I like you, Y/n. No, screw that, I’m falling for you. And now I think I just ruined our friendsh—”
You cut him off as you raised both your arms and wrapped them around his shoulder. Your sadness from earlier is no longer there, replaced by the happiest feeling as you laughed softly.
“You’re right. This isn’t the best place to confess.” You said as you pulled away. “But I’m falling for you too, Steve Harrington. I have been for a while.”
Steve looked at you with his mouth slightly open, his mind still processing the words you have said. “You mean that?” He asked, a smile starting to form on his face.
You nodded, looking at him with nothing but sincerity and adoration in your eyes. He leaned in closer to you, feeling the wetness of your cheeks from your tears as he pressed his hands on both sides of your face.
“Can I kiss you?”
You answered him by leaning in, closing the gap between your faces. The kiss was soft and quick, but enough for you to take in the feeling of each other’s lips.
“Hey, guys, we need you downs— oh.” You both pulled away upon hearing Robin’s voice from the door. The girl had her mouth and eyes wide. “We leave you two alone for a few minutes and you’re already eating each others’ faces.”
You and Steve laughed as he helped you to your feet, his hands softly brushing the remaining tears from your cheeks.
“But I gotta say, nice one, dingus! Took you long enough.” Robin said cheekily as Steve glared at her.
“Shut up.” He groaned, following you as you stepped out of the room.
Robin rolled her eyes, but her expression turned serious. “Come on, we might have a problem.”
====================
After swimming to the bottom of the lake, walking through the forest, and now rapidly biking towards Eddie’s trailer, you felt like your legs would give out anytime.
Nancy was disappointed to find none of her guns after realizing that the time setting of the Upside Down is three years stuck in the past. Still, you were grateful for three reasons. One, you were able to communicate with the kids on the other side, and now all of you are on your way to getting out of this dimension. Two, Nancy’s cassette was working and is safely tucked inside your pockets. Three, Robin. Her teasing and bickering with Steve made this entire situation much lighter.
You were happy when you finally took the familiar right turn to Eddie’s place, stepping out of your bikes as soon as you reached his front lawn. As expected by Nancy, you found another portal on Eddie’s ceiling. It looks identical to the one at the lake, and you all freaked when a stick poke through.
You almost screamed in happiness when you saw Dustin, Max, Lucas, and Erica on the other side. A few minutes later, Dustin threw a makeshift rope from blankets, the others preparing a mattress for your group to land on.
Robin climbed first, followed by Eddie and Nancy.
“Go on.” Steve smiled at you.
“See you on the other side?” You asked him, eyes twinkling.
He let out a small laugh, nodding his head. “See you on the other side.”
You reached for the rope, pulling yourself up with every remaining strength that you have. But you didn’t fall on the mattress.
Steve watched you position yourself in front of him, ready to grab onto the rope. But when you went steady with your hands falling to your side, his face went cold.
“Y/n?” He moved to face you, eyes widening when he saw your eyes glazed. It was the same look that Max had at the cemetery. He cupped your face, shaking you as softly as he could. “Shit. Y/n! Stay with me. Y/n!”
On the other end, Steve heard Max shout. “It’s Vecna! Play her music, Steve!”
His hands were shaking as he reached for your back pocket, inserting the tape into the cassette player. He immediately placed the headphones on your ears, holding your hand after he did so.
“C’mon, Y/n. You gotta come back to me.”
====================
You fell into darkness, wincing and gasping as you felt yourself land on your back. It took you a few seconds to sit up, taking in your surroundings.
You were in the middle of a road, with several police cars and an ambulance lined up to your left. The sky was dark; it was night.
Standing up slowly, you were overwhelmed with panic and fear, not fully understanding what was happening.
“Y/n.” The familiar dark voice spoke, making you gasp from how loud it was. “Did you forget what you’ve done?”
You looked around, but everything was dark aside from the flashing lights from the cars. It was only then that you noticed a shattered car to your right.
You trembled upon seeing the familiar car.
Its front part was completely destroyed, looking similar to the bent street light pole. You froze when you noticed someone come out from the driver’s side, slowly walking towards you.
“Oh, Y/n.” You heard your mother’s voice, recognizing her dim-lighted face as she stood a few feet away from you. “You did this to me. You killed me.” She wickedly laughed.
“W-what? I—” You stuttered, stumbling a few steps back.
“If only you had listened to me.” The more she comes near you, the more you can see her figure change. Your mother’s body was slowly transforming into something you couldn’t comprehend. Its body was similar to a human, but taller and covered in the same vines from the upside down.
“I see you’ve been looking for me, Y/n.” Its voice went back to the usual, its eyes glowing red and black.
You gasped, remembering Max’s description of the same monster who curses you.
Vecna.
Without thinking, you turned around and ran. You didn’t know where your path would lead you, but you were desperate to stay away from him. You tripped over something, and the cemented ground that you first found yourself on had transformed into a wooden floor.
You looked up, seeing that you were back in Victor Creel’s house. Although, this was far from what you have seen. This house looked new, fresh, and alive.
“You wanted to find out the truth, Y/n?” Vecna’s voice echoed, though he wasn’t anywhere in sight.
Your attention was brought to the four people in front of you, noticing two kids and two adults. Victor Creel’s family. Your eyes stuck to the young boy, his eyes looking around the house with a blank expression.
Your surroundings shifted every once in a while, each vision focusing on Victor’s son, Henry. You follow him as he quietly watches his family members, spying on their every move. You were shocked when you were led outside, witnessing the boy kill a struggling rabbit with powers similar to Eleven’s.
But that’s not what terrified you.
You watched the night when Victor was arrested. It wasn’t him who killed his wife and daughter. It was Henry.
The flashbacks ended, the house’s walls slowly disintegrating into red smoke. You shivered when you realized that you were brought to the same place from Max’s drawings.
“Your time is over, Y/n. Now, you will join me.” You turned around, seeing Vecna coming closer to you.
“Fuck you!” You shouted, feeling something wrap around your ankle. Before you could look down, you were dragged backward, another set of vines wrapping around your wrists to pull you up against a column.
Vecna watched you struggle, a demonic smile forming on his face as he stood directly in front of you. “I’m here to end your suffering, Y/n.” He raised his right hand towards your face, your eyes widening in fear as you looked at his sharp fingers.
That’s when you heard it.
Oh, girl, I've known you very well
I've seen you growing every day
It was a faint sound, and you almost thought that it just came from your imagination.
I never really looked before
But now you take my breath away
Vecna’s motions stopped, angrily turning around. You followed his eyes, a gasp escaping your lips as you spotted a portal-looking exit.
Suddenly you're in my life
Part of everything I do
But it wasn’t just that. You saw Steve’s form, frantically shaking you. When Vecna returned his sight to you, he was furious.
“You don’t belong with them. You belong with me, here.” He sneered, raising his hand once more.
His words snapped something inside you. You remembered all the times you hung out with Robin and Steve over at the Family Video; the times when the boys would ask you to ride the bike with them, letting them purposely win when they ask for a race; the times when you volunteered to be Max and El’s chaperone to the mall; the times where your dad would always bake your birthday cake because you refused to eat any cake that wasn’t done by him; and the all the times you spent with Steve.
How you two would endlessly annoy Robin. How he secretly enjoys being with Dustin despite the fact that they always fight whenever they’re together. And the moment you had several minutes ago back at the Wheeler’s.
This isn’t where you belong. You belong with your friends, your dad, with Steve.
You got me working day and night
Just tryin' to keep a hold on you
You twisted your right wrist from one of the vines, lifting a punch to Vecna’s cheek. He stumbled back as the rest of his grip loosened around you.
You pushed away all the tiredness from the past days as you took the opportunity to run, avoiding as much falling debris as you could.
Here in your arms I found my paradise
My only chance for happiness
And if I lose you now, I think I would die
Oh, say you'll always be my baby, we can make it shine
We can take forever, just a minute at a time
More than a woman
More than a woman to me
You will come home.
====================
Steve was crying, tears shamefully dropping on his face as he looked at your rising body. Your back aggressively landed on Eddie’s ceiling, just a few inches away from the gate where the rest of your friends are shouting.
“Shit. Come on, Y/n. Come back to me.” He said, trying to reach you.
He isn’t going to give up on you. He made a promise to keep you safe, and not even a monster from another dimension will break it.
He cried harder when he saw your eyes return to normal, a loud gasp escaping from your lips. Instinctively, he reaches his arms out, catching you before you land.
Your eyes were distraught, assessing everything around you. Steve held your face with one of his hands, still crying.
“Y-you’re back.” He said shakily as your eyes steadied on him.
“Oh, Steve.” You breathed, wrapping your arms around the boy. “I’m fine. I’m fine.”
He held you for a little while longer, occasionally pressing a few kisses on your forehead while the rest of your friends were exclaiming joyfully.
“Come on. Let’s go to the other side. Together.”

So you've got to write a sympathy card for your boss's dog. Or comment on a post announcing the death of your distant uncle. Or go to your partner's grandmother's funeral. But what do you even say to the people left in the wake of tragedy?
Please consider, my personal* list of dos and don'ts for expressing your condolences to the grieving.
Do... Think of your favorite memories of that person. Even something small like what they often wore.
Example: "The cake they baked for the charity auction was one of the best bundt cakes I've ever had."
Example: "When I think of [passed person], I remember how they always had fun sweaters to wear on Christmas."
Intended effect: Grief is a grey cloud that surrounds the mind and blocks out light. Reminding the person grieving of something specific and positive associated with the deceased helps them remember it too. It also gives them comfort that that person, who is physically gone from the world, is not gone from everyone's minds or hearts.
Do... Consider how they passed, the relationship to the person you're consoling, and how that person you're consoling has talked about them/their death.
Example (the relationship was fraught): "This must be a difficult time for you. I am wishing for you lots of rest and peace of mind."
Example (the deceased passed from a long, difficult illness): "Though they will be terribly missed, I'm glad to know they are finally at peace."
Intended effect: Considering the context of how the person passed and how the griever feels about it will make them feel like you aren't just saying words you've heard before to make yourself comfortable. A common phrase that may work well in one situation may work terribly in another.
Do... Question your own feelings about the death. What was your relationship to the deceased? Do you also feel sad for this person's passing? Or do you just want to provide comfort for the grieving person?
Example (you are affected by the death): "I wish I could give them one last hug, but I'm so glad to have known them for as long as I did."
Example (you didn't know the deceased well but you knew them casually): "I was so sorry to hear of their passing. I hope you are doing well and taking care of yourself."
Example (you never met the deceased): "I am sorry for your loss, I am thinking of you and your family."
Intended effect: People who are grieving can feel incredibly alone in their grief, especially if the loss was great. If you are also affected by the death, by all means express it (sensitively), because the griever will feel less isolated in their feelings. Even if you yourself are not affected, you can still lessen their isolation by expressing care towards the griever.
Do... Let silence speak for you. If the griever is a hugger, a few words and a long hug may do more good than 1,000 words ever could.
Don't... Bring up religion or an afterlife if you do not know what the person grieving believes, or they know you do not believe it yourself. "I'm praying for you" may be appropriate for some, but "I'm thinking of you" is a safer bet.
Don't... Say phrases like "everything happens for a reason" or "God has a plan for us all" unless the griever has already expressed this attitude around this specific death.
Don't... Say platitudes you don't mean or that are insincere to a point where it would be obvious. For example, do not say "they were a light to us all" if you spoke to the deceased maybe twice, or they were a chronic grump.
Don't... Assume that the person who is grieving doesn't feel anything negative or complicated about the deceased, unless you are extremely close with the griever. Even someone you know on a basic level may not confide in you their negative feelings about the person who passed, especially if they were a close relative. If you are unsure about the nature of the relationship, focus on the griever and express care towards them rather than sorrow for the loss itself.
Don't... Try to fix or solve anything. Be present, be warm, be understanding, and you will do just enough to maybe ease some small fraction of the pain.
Don't... Be 100% positive. It's tempting to try and cheer someone up by not dwelling on anything bad or uncomfortable, but that's more isolating than anything else. It also signals to the griever that you yourself are uncomfortable, which isn't incredibly helpful.
Don't... Be 100% morose. The person grieving may crack a joke, and it may be a dark one, but just go with it and laugh along. The ridiculous is made even moreso in the context of tragedy, and the person grieving will always appreciate/remember any points of levity they had in an otherwise dark time.
Don't... Be afraid to say anything at all, even if it's unoriginal. A simple "I'm thinking of you" is better than silence.
*I approached this topic from the headspace of someone grieving a complicated but profound loss, years after the fact. Trying to remember how it felt to be freshly grieving myself, I tried to be truthful but not too specific. If you have any other tips as someone who is familiar with grief, feel free to add. If you disagree with my list, then we simply process grief differently and I encourage you to make your own post. Thanks for reading 💚

Between Yeon Woo going back for the sweater but then lying about losing it and the moment when Woo Jae asks what he means about leaving without a trace... I'm really wondering how much they've missed between each other's lines and how many times over this could have been solved if one of them just stayed or asked another question or told a small truth instead of a lie.
Woo Jae is waiting for questions he can answer but Yeon Woo is waiting for forgiveness before he says anything and they're both trapped in this loop of waiting and leaving or leaving and waiting. Neither one of them knows how to step up or step forward in the way the other needs.
And that's why they fell apart in the first place. Yeon Woo left behind the sweater, Woo Jae saw and took it back and then Yeon Woo came back for the sweater but felt the need to cover up that he'd left it behind which just convinced Woo Jae that he didn't care and didn't even know he'd left it behind when what he was trying to do was spare his feelings.
And it's this confession. It's this moment when Yeon Woo says his feelings and the fear that comes with voicing them and Woo Jae still walks away because he doesn't hear the words the way he means them because he can't hear them that way, he simply cannot see past his own assumptions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way Woo Jae is still hung up that sweater and then seeing his own sweater destroyed with the wine and then just... losing it. Because he never planned on seeing Yeon Woo again, he never thought he'd face these emotions again... or was that what happened?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What does this mean? I am dying, I need to know what happened from Woo Jae's perspective to explain that he didn't just up and leave without any warning or sign.
But, again, that feeds into their relationship. They grew to a certain level of closeness that let them make assumptions about things, lead them to make up white lies as a comfort to each other (or at least Yeon Woo did and that drove Woo Jae away because he doesn't think like that, he doesn't think of white lies to protect people and he thought Yeon Woo deliberately forget and didn't want his sweater, was deliberately rejecting him, rather than protecting his feelings) and that just hurt them both.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeon Woo is trying to protect Woo Jae's feelings but because Woo Jae already knows that he left the sweater behind it just feels like a much bigger lie and a much more painful truth about their relationship then it was because all it was was a white lie in the hopes that he'd find the sweater and be able to wear it and show him.
It's this wall between them, built the same way Woo Jae built his characters. Two people confused about their emotions and unable to speak to each other because neither of them is asking the right questions or trying to give the answers. They're just... talking past each other, speaking words they would want to hear. Neither one of them is looking to the other person's perspective.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The door code is his birthday, the password to his laptop is the day they met, everything in Woo Jae's life is still about Yeon Woo because he's never even considered anyone or anything else. His story is about the love that he tried to leave behind but never did, never could, no matter how far he ran.
And this chance for Yeon Woo to see that, to see how much he space he takes up in Woo Jae's life even if he never planned to see him again... that's gotta be something huge but hard to define, to see how big you are in someone's life that you thought cut you out entirely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here's where you see the dynamic they shared, the way it was always about Woo Jae pulling back and then Yeon Woo pulling the truth out of him. Woo Jae is silent until Yeon Woo makes it clear he must answer and that's why he's been waiting for the questions, waiting to be asked anything because he can barely answer questions let alone give answers without that.
Tumblr media
And the preview for next week where we're going to get more answers and more closure and we're going to, hopefully, find out the answers to the rest of this... and maybe a happy ending? They do both deserve it.

Her parents were both Hufflepuff during their time at Hogwarts and her mother wanted to name her Valeria after the valerian plant but her mother died during childbirth. Her dad respected the want of her having that name, but used it as her middle name. Her dad named her Anastasia, meaning "resurrection", in hopes she would be as powerful and skilled as her mother.
She was raised in a tree farm, where they tended to trees used for wand wood. There was a small village nearby where the boys would torment her any chance they got, teasing her for her young boyishness features. As she started to become more of age, they started to notice and took sexual advances to her. Ana's father was protective of her and loved her dearly, and it hurt him to know what they had done to her.
From all the trauma she had endured from the village boys, it had stumped her magical abilities. Anastasia and her father both feared that she would be powerless, a squib. As she turned 15, on May 14th, she received a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She started to pick up on things more quickly and her father allowed her to borrow his wand until she made her way to Ollivander's.
Anastasia was sorted into Hufflepuff, a tradition within their family. She stood proudly to her position in the school, believing in rightful justice and loyalty; which she had always been loyalty to Sebastian above everything else.
They fell in love with each other during their first year together at Hogwarts. Every year to follow they were inseparable, the love of the school that everyone knew about. There was nothing comparable to them, something that they both thought would last forever.
That is until Sebastian left just after graduation, leaving Ana heartbroken beyond repair. She then navigated through life blindly, hoping someday, somehow, Sebastian would find her again.
