And what about the Blue Spirit conspiracies? You can't honestly tell me that there aren't some of there.
Currently thinking about an atla au where almost everything is the same except it takes place in the modern world
Just the sheer chaos of blurry photos of the gaang being snapped across the globe. The cabbage merchant has uploaded the most of them and they’re all captioned with full caps, no grammar, boomer-style
Appa must be faster than cars, but what about planes? What the fuck are the gaang going to do against PLANES? The fear of an aerial assault might actually slow their journey down a lot
Also the thought of Aang emerging from the iceberg and not only finding century-old skeletons, but photos from the days/years following the massacre…. Photography was relatively new, so the images are blurred and uncoloured but still fairly clear. Do you think anyone photographed the aftermath? The generals celebrating the defeat. The pillagers ravaging the temples.
A less morbid thought: there would be hundreds if not thousands of forum boards speculating about the Avatar’s disappearance and Zuko would be on ALL of them. His username is well-known on the boards, though no one knows who this weirdly aggressive but well-traveled dude is
The White Lotus probably has a group chat/fb page disguised as a pai sho fan club where they trade information via coded discussions about the game. Bumi communicates almost entirely in gifs.
Information control is already a huge thing in atla, but in a modern au? Ba Sing Se would have insane media control and online filters. Any posts about the war are taken down and the culprit tracked. If there was a rebellion in Ba Sing Se, it would be from the tech savy population who can get around the censorship
Speaking of media: can you imagine the media attention on the royal family in the Fire Nation? The media would adore Iroh and Lu Ten and either ignore or occasionally criticize Ozai - until Lu Ten died, then the press tears Iroh to pieces and becomes Fire Lord Ozai’s unofficial fanclub overnight.
Azula is the media darling of the Fire Nation. Zuko is praised as often as he is criticized. In canon, the pressure already fucked with these kids, but can you imagine if they had tabloids and a 24-hour news cycle? Zuko’s banishment is warped and vague, and yet covered extensively. Photos of the banished prince sold to tabloids for a fortune in the weeks after his exile - until Ozai shuts that down, then he vanishes from the public’s eyes until Aang returns, then Zuko goes through periods of blind, worshipful praise by the press and intense negativity and hate, swinging wildly between the two extremes. The media will always be extremely polarised around him, until he eventually retires and hands the crown to Izumi. Only then will the press drop their hostility and talk about him as if he has always been the Fire Nation’s darling
Also he looks painfully awkward in every single photo the press take of him. His PR person has tried to coach him on body language with limited success
After Book 2, Azula gets a very similar treatment to Zuko. But while Zuko grew up criticised and hated and learnt to ignore it, Azula has always been adored. So when the press starts documenting her downward spiral, starts questioning her perfection, she loses it
Years later, when she’s an adult, she learns how to bait and play the press like a cat toying with a mouse, laughing at every negative article posted about her or Zuko. But for now, she’s fourteen and never been anything other than perfect and the pressure is killing her
Momo has his own insta. It’s wildly popular. Most of the canon characters are following it, including Zuko and Iroh - the former for any possible hints on the Avatar’s location, the latter because he thinks Momo is very cute
He has a twitter too. For some reason. It has 5x the amount of followers as Sokka’s twitter account and Sokka is SO bitter about it
Ty Lee is a very successful influencer
Do you think there’s a “#ty lee is over party” when it’s revealed she committed Actual Real-Life War Crimes?? I’m losing my mind

I think a lot of people forgot that one time Zuko, with one heel strike, managed to shatter iron/steel, freeing Iroh's chained wrists. His boots didn't even look like they were made by anything but leather and I don't think there was a heel to them at all.
[spoilers for atla]
I don't like (and at the same time I like it very much) how fandom makes Zuko into a Soft Widdle Ducky.
Like, yeah, he's awkward and traumatized. But he is very much a warrior prince at the same time. Look at his confrontation with Ozai: "you're going to listen, or I'm going to cut you in two with my swords".
During the series, Zuko almost never struggles with immediate action and decisions - but he's really terrible at measured, considered action and decisions.
I want to see that side of Zuko in fic. Like, a former war minister gets out of line? "Right. Let's take this outside. Do you want fire or steel." Sure, by the end of the series he's much more mature, grounded and peaceful, but so many fics I read, he just kind of folds when people get aggressive with him, when his more canonically true self would likely just go "yup, that's a threat, first you're going to get your ass beat and then I'm throwing you in jail, I don't really care how influential you are." And I want to see him deal with that.
That being said, I still enjoy all those fics where Zuko's personality is basically 🥺🔥

The Skywalker family, as explained using Embers by Vathara
Shmi - either a non-bender, a spirit-bender, or a weak fire bender
Anakin - the Zuko-equivalent. He just has too much dragon/Force in him. As Vader, he could be seen as a dark dragon, but he is not. Sidious is his Ozai, and due to the Loyalty of Fire, Vader could not disobey, or risk death. With him dying after he killed Sidious, it fits.
Luke - a first generation dragon child equivalent, with Padme's genes diluting the strength of Anakin's. That's why he's sane yet still powerful.
Leia - also a first generation dragon child equivalent, but one who barely trains her inner fire - only just enough to not cause accidents and some of the helpful mental tricks.
Ben - a possible dark dragon. Han's genes may have diluted the upper threshold of his capabilities, but he is still from the 'royal family' equivalent of the Star Wars-verse. Lu Ten was hinted to be powerful, after all.

There are many reasons the fandom has explained away why, of all his Guardians, TYL!Tsuna only told TYL!Kyouya.
Whether it's because he has the Foundation, rarely interacts with the Main Familia, or just that he's a Cloud - there are a lot of reasons.
There's also the ones about how TYL!Kyouya would be the only one to keep a clear head when TYL!Tsuna has just died, how he's the only one both cold enough to be steady enough to train Tsuna, but cares enough to actually do it.
There's also the shipping ones, how TYL! Kyouya is the only person TYL!Tsuna both truly knows and cares for, how he knows his lover will train his younger self.
I think this can all be true, but there's also something else. Of all his Guardians, Kyouya is perhaps the only one that doesn't expect Tsuna to do things he doesn't want to do that doesn't benefit him. Nor forces him in a role he does not want.
Gyokudera, from his first interaction with Tsuna, revolves around the fact that Tsuna will be Vongola Decimo. It's likely, even on their deathbeds, he will call Tsuna Jyuudaime, and even after that. Tsuna will never actually be able to be himself around him, especially once he's truly Vongola Decimo.
Takeshi will always seen Tsuna as the boy who saved him from suicide, who gave him a purpose. Tsuna gave Takeshi his Will to live - and this colours all their future interactions.
Lampo is the kid he took in, who looks up to him, who he always has to be the role model to.
Ryouhei is always so bright and genuine, dragged into the Mafia only because he's the strongest Sun Namimori has.
Chrome has always called Tsuna Boss. While she may be one of the few he actually would've truly Harmonized properly without outside influence, their relationship has long been tainted by outside perspective and opinions long before they met.
Mukuro is another he would've naturally Harmonized with, without tampering. Still, Mukuro doesn't try to bond with Tsuna. Can't, when he's been in Vindicare for so long in the TYL.
Kyouya is the only one who both never forced him into the Mafia nor anchored him as his Will to live. Tsuna is simply the Sky his Clouds drift through. It's just as simple and as complicated as that. Kyouya just wants Tsuna strong enough to both protect himself and to be a better sparring partner. Kyouya doesn't care if Tsuna is a Boss or a Lackey. In the end, Tsuna will most likely always be Little Animal in Kyouya's eyes.

Dani wouldn't ever get the Wail though, as Danny got that out of necessity and knowing that he could. Dan, who managed to fight the whole planet and Zone onto submission, needed less than 2 decades. Dani, who rarely needs to? It's doubtful she'll ever be placed in the situation to develop it, nor be actually capable of it. After all, she was an unstable clone and the Wail is a sound base attack.
wait wait, so the whole overpowered Danny thing. his only weaknesses were pretty much his friends/family and his hometown. but what about Dani? she's got [probably] equal potential to Danny, albeit she might not immediately be so strong since she's a bit younger than him. after travelling the world she'd probably be down for joining a superhero team. (although that part where people started calling Danny over every little thing? she'd HATE being used like that)
I’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT DANI
I wasn’t sure what direction to go in with her though, I did consider ] the other supers meeting her first (because yeah her travelling the world makes her more likely to come across them) and having Things happen from there, what Things I have yet to consider (she’d probably be down with joining them for a while before taking off again, can’t hold that girl down in one place for long)
I imagine Dani isn’t as strong as Danny, since she was initially an unstable clone, even though Danny did stabilise her I reckon she still wouldn’t quite be in perfect condition, I also imagine her powers developing differently
Danny gets his powers out of necessity, he HAS to be strong to handle the threats constantly being thrown at him, Danielle is travelling the world, probably rarely fighting other ghosts, the abilities she’s more likely to strengthen would be her speed and stamina (because she does so much long distance travelling) and maybe even her intangibility and invisibility seeing as she’d probably do a lot of sneaking around in her travels to steal food and explore places she’s probably not supposed to be in
so though Danny is far more powerful, Danielle could probably fly faster than him and stay intangible/invisible for a lot longer than he could, at the cost of her not being quite as strong and not developing all the really strong powers that he has (she’d get the ice ones though but it’d take a while) so where she couldn’t beat him in combat she could potentially outlast him
imagine though, a super team finds this girl with a bunch of different powers and being AMAZED and then they find out she’s a clone, and they assume she was cloned from a bunch of different supers
but it turns out she was cloned from one guy, who has like waaay more powers than she does and they’re just like?? ??//?? hOW? ??

The best thing is how this is so in character for him.
AU where toddler Izuku took one look at hero society and decided, instead of being a hero, Izuku wants to be a villain more than anything
1 - It makes complete sense! Heroes are always in competition with other heroes, they have their own turfs, and they aren't interacting much, except for special occasions, while villains are the ones who hang out with heroes the most!
2 - Izuku's mom is worried that her son wants to become a villain while his father advises him to pick his future job "for the right reasons". But isn't fanboyism the best reason?
3 - Katsuki is REALLY worried now that Izuku has stopped wanting to become a hero and wants to become a villain. He just knows that he will be Deku's favorite target. So Katsuki decides to encourage Deku in becoming a hero.
4 - Everyone else in Aldera used to think Izuku was just a little crazy until someone started to anonymously post mean pictures and posts about a classmate. Izuku didn't like that at all. The next day, the posts were deleted and another classmate had moved in another country.
5 - Izuku shows up at the LoV meeting, in UA uniform (he is in Gen Ed and All Might, Aizawa and Nedzu are trying to pss pss him to the Hero Course) but leaves because he doesn't think they have enough ambition. Tomura hates him and is scared he is going to steal his place as future Symbol of Evil.

My favorite part is how it's implied that Kiego continued the family business before being a hero.
AU where you must be a legal adult to become a hero and get a license.
1 - It's an AU where people get their quirks in their late teens (between 16 and 18) instead of when they are five.
2 - UA and the other schools are now college, with a three-year-program. Izuku was among the best candidates but his quirk never showed up. This means that he didn't get bullied for ten years like in canon but it also means he was pretty well-liked only for him to become a loser when his quirk failed to show up and he is more cautious when it comes to making friends.
3 - Bakugou is far less worse than in canon but he did screw up when it comes to Izuku. However, their friendship is more easily mended and he does pull his head out of his ass for good.
4 - Keigo wasn't found by the HPSC when he was a child but did become a hero. He also happens to have a criminal record but that's a detail.
5 - Since they are in college, they don't wear uniform and Kaminari one day showed up in a pikachu onesie to class.

Why Spinner?
Hi! AU where Dabi is hit by a quirk erasing the last ten years of his life (at least I think) so he only remembers the time when he was Touya, please.
(just DONT think about the timeline for this one ok. there is no timeline. This does not happen in any canon event, but Dabi has not yet been able to reveal himself dramatically, so)
1- It was Dabi's own fault for leading the attack that ended with Eri jabbed with some Trigger, boosting her quirk to the point that it didn't just rewind him physically to a 12 year old Touya, but erased all his memories too. He's lucky he didn't get fully rewound before Eraserhead stopped Eri and fled with her, not realizing what even happened to Dabi.
2- Touya realizes he has no idea where he is, no memory past going to bed last night mad at his dad as usual, and that he is completely surronded by villains and strangers. He makes the somewhat reasonable conclusion that he was kidnapped, and some villain in all black might have just made off with Fuyumi, a far easier target than him. (Todorokis are great at almost connecting dots.)
3- So he sets a large fire around the villains- but does not immolate himself, because he knows he needs to be able to run, not train to make the flames hotter- and flees as well. he finds a hero and demands to be taken home, since someone kidnapped him, Touya Todoroki, and possibly his sister.
4- The hero is confused and doubtful until Touya shows his quirk, after which the hero is confused and wondering if Endeavor had a secret lovechild years after that Shoto kid was born. But hey, might as well take the kid somewhere safer and pass it on, right?
5- Touya is very confused that Fuyumi is the first one to get there after being told. And that she wasn't kidnapped. And that she is way too old, like mom's age, but clearly looks like herself- what happened? He refuses to believe anyone saying she didn't get hit by an aging quirk from her kidnappers until Enji himself comes in to verify. (And only because his father is actually looking at him, seeing him, and saying everything Touya wants to hear.)
+1- both Hawks and Spinner are aware this happened and trying to snatch Touya away from everything, but are failing

I love how, in this AU, Shoto is going to be the most emotionally intelligent of all the Todorokis and the one that understands all of them best despite being the youngest.
AU where Fuyumi and Rei are pro heroes
An interesting prompt...
1- in this au, Enji is a politician who realized the sheer power heroics had in society and in government. (All Might is still his rival, but that's because Enji knows he isn't filing anywhere close to all paperwork he's supposed to) In order to get an in, he arranged a marriage with the Himura family, who run an agency on par with Idaten. He marries Cryo, aka Rei, only a sidekick at the time but a recent UA graduate in the main family.
2- Rei and Enji adjust to the marriage. Enji likes the idea of children, but not immediately. Rei, who'd been expecting more of a quirk marriage, waits a year longer before trying to get pregnant to establish her career more. After the twins Touya and Fuyumi are born, Enji and Rei work through the fact that they don't actually have to have a "normal" marriage where a certain amount of sex or children are "supposed" to happen. Besides, they've got two kids now, and should focus on them, and their careers.
3- Rei opens up that she wants to do more fieldwork in heroics, where her family had always expected her to be more of an agency prop and pretty face. Enji suggests starting her own agency if her family one doesn't allow her to work as she wants. In return for him supporting her career goals, she does act more publicly- but in the more political stage, not product placement.
4- Fuyumi and Touya both grow up wanting to be heroes, because that is clearly the cooler (ba-dum-tish) job of their two parents. Rei is easily able to train Fuyumi, even when it turns out she's got a weakness to cold- warming support tech is easy to get. Touya is another matter, and both she and Enji feel he shouldn't pursue the field.
5- Natsuo is born, without a quirk. (Enji realizes most of his party and platforms would not be ideal for Natsuo and other quirkless people - but he's come too far with them. He can't abandon them if he wants to reach his other goals, they'd be impossible on the quickly shrinking quirkless platform. And besides, he has enough money to ensure Natsuo has a good life, around whatever legislation there is.) Then baby Shoto, who also wants to be a hero. Touya chafes at being told not to do something his younger siblings can, even if Enji tries hard to bring him into politics and give him more attention than his siblings. Touya decides to plan his father's downfall by learning, and then running on all the opposite positions, taking everything from him. Natsuo sees this, somewhat, as supporting him.
+1- the strain with the children causes Rei and Enji to quietly separate, though publicly they still step in to support each other when needed. Rei takes Fuyumi and Shoto, Enji takes Touya, and in theory also Natsuo, but he moves between to visit his siblings more than any other of the kids.
+2- Fuyumi and Rei train Shoto at a safe and reasonable pace, but they're much better at ice and really have to guess with his fire. For this reason, he rarely uses it, because he just doesn't know how to safely, beyond just keeping his body in balance or lighting little candles.
+3- Fuyumi and Natsuo completely believe Touya's running and planning things to support Natsuo. Only Shoto is pretty sure that's not his motivation and it's to get back at Enji, but he keeps quiet about that.
+4- Rei is very supportive of her children, but more quietly. If she isn't able to get time off during the SF (she's a top tenner ok), she texts her kids pictures of her watching when she can, smiling for them, for them to see later. She hires tutors to ensure Natsuo goes to a great university and medical school. She sends Touya little trinkets that remind her of him. (She doesn't know he burns several of those. Natsuo never tells.)
+5- Fuyumi looks into teaching at UA, since she likes the idea of that as well as loving being a hero and already rising through the ranks (top 30), and is offered a TA job the year that Shoto starts. Surely it'll be way more rewarding and easier than spending a lot of free time dodging marriage proposals or pointed messages from her mother's side of the family! (It is more rewarding. It turns out to not be easier for many, many reasons.)

When the main love story is so integral to the plot that some people just can't separate the two.
Anon: a valid reason for why it makes no sense that sns is intentional
You: yOu'Re HoMoPhObiC
Typing out long paragraphs to prove a point isn't going to suddenly make it valid. I believe anon is right. The misogyny in Naruto does a lot to highlight the relationship between the males. Different aspects of a piece of media are bound to influence each other. Kishimoto wrote Naruto to be similar to a much intense version of a rival-like relationship in his own life. He also acts as if women are part of some foreign species, leading him to say "idk how to write women" as justification for ruining all the arcs of females. Queer baiting is a thing. These things collectively contribute to make Sns so obvious.
So I'm sorry to break it to you but I can't, in a million years, believe that this cishet, married man sat down and intentionally wrote a 700 chapter gay romance. And yes, some pieces of media are unintentional. You just make this piece of art and not everyone will interpret it the same way. Anyone can show up and say "character A looks beautiful. This is an intentional thing done by the artist" when the artist drew character A to look average to their eyes. Kishi does realize that sns must look so fucking romantic to some ppl and he allows us to see it the way we want.
That being said, i don't see the point in arguing whether kishi intended to write homosexual characters or not. Does saying that it was intentional make you feel better about yourself /the ship?? Does that help you glorify your favourite author of all time?? Are you going to sit here and defend this middle aged man who has literally moved on with his life, for something he wrote eons ago?? Go ahead ig. If you really want to live like that. You should go touch some grass.
Ugh, I go out for one night of drinking and dancing and this is what I come home to.
Look sweetheart. You ARE biased. And HOMOPHOBIC. And quite ignorant, I must say.
Also why are you so salty about my long paragraphs, seeing you didn't actually counter my arguments but only reiterated the earlier ask which isn't a proof of anything? 😂
Bubbla, it's not about writing LONG paragraphs that makes my answer valid. It's my reasoning. Which you obviously conveniently missed and came and ranted in the ask section, like some seven year old stubborn child. Next time, I won't write things that I want to say, (and I usually do have a lot to say because Kishi gives me a lot to think about) but just telepath it to my readers. Is that what you want hon?
And you know where I am coming from?? I work in the industry. I know how it works from experience. I also know because I am in the habit of watching films from all over the world since I was four. I make time to actually read about storytelling. I am a cinephile. A lot of fans, such as yourself, are ignorant about how things are done in the actual world. Like I am sorry but you obviously don't know jackshit.
I socialize with a lot of writers, some of them are national and international award winning film makers and I like to pick their brains, because of my own interests. One of them recently got nominated for an Oscar. I would have shared the link had I not been mindful about my anonymity. That's a privilege only special people get (you know who you are). Am I flexing? Let me know when your friend gets nominated for an Oscar, even though I think Murican film awards are quite overhyped, but it's still a major recognition. What I am trying to tell you is that I am coming from a solid background and I give reasoning for it. And I don't see actual counterpoints from you, just a sad little rehash of what the other anon said, also as ignorant.
Anyway, you know why I don't think Kishi's writing is unintentional? The whole reason why Kishi thought it was important to talk about - are they friends? Or brothers? Or More? points to the FACT that he wanted to say something with it. That their true feelings for each other is at the very least, suspect. If they aren't brothers, since Naruto does finally admit he doesn't think Sasuke is his brother when talking to Hagoromo, and if they aren't just friends, as Naruto finally admits in chapter 698, that he doesn't really know how to explain it, what else could it be?? And how is it that I have seen this trope so many times in other gay media, very much derived from personal stories of gay film makers?
Tumblr media
Why would Kishi tell the story this way when he makes Sasuke ask Naruto over and over again, to define the relationship, and Naruto keeps saying, because you are my 'friend'? Why waste so much precious panel space when he could have added more fight scenes that otakus just eat up with both hands? Have you asked yourself these questions? Do you even think about writer's intent? Do you even use your head while consuming media?
I have the advantage of having watched I don't know, around fifty films about gay coming of age stories, and talking to actual gay people to compare if their stories or experiences were similar.
The writer's intention says a lot. I get that most fans don't understand the method of writing a story, but to think it's accidental is plain denial mixed with ignorance.
Kishimoto intended to tell a gay love story. Otherwise he wouldn't have told the story in this manner. No way. He deliberately moulded the story that forces the protagonist, who is closeted gay, to answer why he cares about Sasuke so much, and what his feelings for Sasuke mean. Why would there be this intent to define this relationship, had they not been purposely written as two boys in love with each other? And why are we seeing the same dynamic in Boruto which isn't even about these two? Yeah, sure, Kishimoto has apparently moved on but he is still continuing the same dynamic in Boruto, nice, heh.
Why aren't they close to their wives? Why don't they even talk to them, much less spend time with them? But they always have time for each other? They smile for each other and look alive and happy when otherwise they look so dull? Why is Sasuke's marriage such a sham? Why doesn't he kiss or visit his own wife? Why does Kishimoto show Boruto think of his mother when Sarada talks about bento in Gaiden but when she gives it to Naruto in the next chapter, Naruto thinks of Sasuke looking at the bento and not his OWN wife when she is the one who regularly makes it for him?
Do you really not see writer's intent? What is Kishi trying to say here, in a genre where he can't explicitly say it, but has other means that he uses so blatantly? Before you ask me questions, ask them to yourself. If you then have doubts, then maybe come to me. Or don't. I have a huge backlog anyway.
How easily you sweep significant moments under the rug without asking yourself why the writer wrote it this way if he didn't want to say something with it? Writers use everything in their toolboxes to tell their story. Narrative, dialogues, characters, visual imagery, which in Naruto's case, all points to a deliberate intention. You think it all happens in isolation? No thought required?? Maybe you don't do things that way, but don't expect everyone else to be as simple minded as you. I can agree that one can be susceptible to interpreting a piece of art as not intended by the creator. I remember once, when I was working in an art gallery, and admiring a painting. So this old man, a collector stood alongside me, also looking at the painting, and asked me what I saw in it. And I told him. He had a different idea, and he got offended by my reading of it, much to my amusement. But you see, it was abstract art. I can look at a Jackson Pollock painting and say it's about a murder scene. You could say it's about rains. That's the fun about abstract art. But there's nothing abstract about Naruto. If anything, it's too expositional, like any other shounen manga. Love, know your genres. Don't think you can get away with comparing apples and oranges, it's such an obvious ploy.
Heh, you don't have to break anything to me anon. I know it is possible to tell a story that accidentally looks gay. An example? You couldn't give me one in your rant, even though you apparently believe it, heh. No worries. I will give you an example.
Top Gun.
If you have seen that film, then you know what I am talking about. A lot of people who thought it was about mach speed and testosterone and male ambition were surprised to see how gay it looked and sounded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You think people aren't aware of it? Wrong.
This is a clip from a dramedy film called 'Sleep with me' and this is one of Quentin Tarantino's acting roles. Now he is being funny here, and even though he makes a lot of sense, it's meant for comedy, that's the whole point of this scene in the film. It is funny. BUT. There is a difference. The difference is TROPES. Writing your script with a line or two that sounds like a character is saying superficial funny gay shit, is different from actually taking those tropes and embedding them in your narrative. The other reason why Top Gun sounds accidentally gay, and is not actually gay, is because otherwise Tom Cruise would never have signed the film, that man is probably gay himself and is notoriously homophobic, and he would sue anyone's ass who as much as breathes about his doubtful sexuality. And secondly, the writer admitted that he didn't write it that way, but he could see how it could be interpreted as gay. But these moments are only for laughs, totally circumstantial and don't add ANYTHING to the actual narrative.
Naruto's story on the other hand is GUIDED by it. Naruto does everything to get close to Sasuke, to understand him, to make him trust him. Kishimoto uses a lot of tropes well explored in global gay media to tell their love story. I have made comparisons with actual films, look for them here and here. I am sorry (not) to say your understanding of narrative is ridiculously poor.
As for your argument that cishet man like Kishimoto can't write gay romance, hahaha, is laughable. Kinda shows how much you really don't know about shit.
Abdellatif Kechiche is a cishet man. And he made 'Blue is the warmest colour' which is about a lesbian coming of age story. So what does that tell you, that he is actually a closeted lesbian??? Hahaha.
Like I said, I don't want to speculate on Kishi's sexuality. Maybe he is closeted, maybe he is bi, maybe he is cishet, we don't know. And I don't care, I am here for the story, not his personal life as it has no relevance in my consumption and understanding of the story itself. Why did he tell a gay love story? Because he wanted to. Just like Kechiche wanted to.
Your arguments are so bizarre.
You obviously don't know what queer baiting is. There's a difference between dangling a carrot knowing it won't work out in the story that way and basing your entire story on the idea. Kishimoto wrote his central narrative around their relationship. Where he wrote such romantic dialogues for them which would make even Shakespeare blush. You think it's unintentional? Wow. Heheh. You are such a pet, I wana pull your cheeks.
Tumblr media
So this art drawn by my man Kishimoto where he has specifically drawn Sasuke's head over Naruto's crotch is accidental? Oh yes, he must not have thought about it all, how it would look to audience, or what it would indicate because he is an idiot who has only been writing and drawing since he was three. SO mUcH AcCiDenTaL.....
Tumblr media
No no, Kishi is innocent, he isn't being naughty at all. Sasuke just happens to be looking at Naruto with that expression and that bottle in his mouth, Kishi is not being suggestive at all.
Yes, I know queer baiting is a thing. Apparently, you don't know what it means. You know what is queerbaiting? Ops and eds of Naruto is queerbaiting, such as Blue Bird, Diver, Broken Youth etc. Why? Because the producers knew it ain't never gonna happen. Kishimoto didn't write the lyrics or create the visuals of the ops and eds. But the studio still commisioned super romantic, explicitly so, ops and eds exclusively for the two of them. To attract a certain subset of audience and it did get traction because it was already established in the story and appealed to audiences it was targeted at. The studio was aware of how it looked to audience. But it's not the kind of genre where you can write it explicitly in the actual story.
As for Kishimoto being misogynistic, yes he is. But that still has nothing to do with Naruto and Sasuke's purposeful love. Is it possible to create homosexual media without or with minimal female interaction with the male leads? Absolutely. 'Hawaii' by Marco Berger has close to no female representation in it, but it's about two gay men realizing their love for each other. Same goes for 'Tropical Malady' by Apichatpong Weerasethakul. 'Happy together' by Wong Kar Wai. Minimal, completely absent or entirely irrelevant female representation. Does that invalidate their own story? No. Obviously.
The reason why I think you are homophobic is because when you trivialize, and appropriate gay content in the name of heteronomativity, you are being homophobic, whether you think of it as such or not. It's like saying - Oh I don't care if you are gay, just keep it away from me.
A person like, oh I don't know, You, would think - hmm that makes sense. He at least isn't opposing gay relationships.
But more insightful people would say - nah, that's homophobic.
And it is.
Your understanding of homophobia is quite shallow, I must say. Kishi's intent is so clear, that you really don't have to be a cinephile to get it. There are many other fans who got it in their first read or watch, just through an unbiased and unprejudiced stance. You don't even have to be exceptionally smart. You just have to avail yourself to the story, to let it immerse you, without coloured and unobjective lenses. Which is honestly the only right way to watch or read anything. Homophobia is such an ingrained mentality, quite like misogyny, that it shows in what you say and how you react to certain things, and it doesn't have to be overt. Almost all the - they are just friends, or they are brothers, or it is just accidental arguments clearly stem from heteronomativity and homophobia because it is such an ingrained response, that one isn't even aware sometimes that they are doing it. People often lack insight into themselves and the majority of Naruto fandom is emotionally young or belong to an age group that is inexperienced in both life and consuming media. Sometimes I suspect most of them haven't seen anything outside of Shounen or shoujo or anime.
And I will tell you something else. People who are in my film circles, I made a couple of them watch Naruto. I didn't say anything about it being gay or whatever, I said nothing. They also understand visual language and narrative like I do. And like I had suspected, they also came out knowing it was a gay love story. Coincidence?? I don't think so. You just gotta be honest with yourself, it's just so much more relieving. Why carry the burden of lying to ourselves? It's not worth it. If you still don't understand what I mean, maybe you will, when you grow up. Not just in terms of age, but experience and understanding.
Is this enough grass touching for you?? 😏
So the next time you feel like flaunting your ignorance in my face so confidently, just Don't. I know my shit. And I can prove it, like I do on my blog, with panel by panel analysis, and comparisons with other media. I would have written a more scathing answer to your boldly misplaced ask, but you are lucky I have a hangover today.
Your anonymity might have saved you from public humiliation but at least one person would know that you were dissed. YOURSELF. If you bother to read this, most ignorant people don't when presented with actual arguments and evidence, and I have a feeling you will prove me right.
But anyway, kindly keep away from my ask box if you can't be nice, because I am not nice to people who aren't nice themselves. I am also not humble and I don't care, it's bad enough I live in a world where people pride themselves for their willful ignorance, but to have to deal with them when all they bring to the table is stupidity and a misplaced confidence unsubstantiated with actual evidence or information, and then harass me for it on my platform, I don't have the patience for that kinda shit.
If you want, you can subscribe to my blog and educate yourself, looks like you really need it. Just refrain from being impolite.

Do you think people are right when they call Kishimoto a misogynist? Does not developing the women as much as the men in a gay love story really mean that you hate women?
I don't think he HATES women, but his female characters generally aren't as fleshed out as some of his female characters. I don't think he is interested to learn about women's inner lives and whatnot. On the good side he doesn't sexualize his female characters as much as his collegues. We also need to acknowledge some of the male characters don't have that much depth either. I mean look at Kiba and Shino...
But we also need to understand Sakura and Hinata aren't bad because they're female characters, they are meant to have the personalities they have. I mean look at Temari, she has less screentime than Sakura yet she's never useless or annoying. She isn't a doormat or selfish like Hinata. Even Ino, who starts out looking like a Sakura copy on the surface, is given a much more likeable personality than Sakura, and is shown to work well with her teammates. She's part of the team, not a liability.
