Whumptober Day 13 - The Brunt of It

Prompts: Can't Make an Omelet Without Breaking a Few Legs, Fracture

Rated: mature

Warnings: graphic depictions of violence, broken bones, suicidal ideation

Word Count: 449

Summary: Girad has no wings for Hakur to break… So he breaks his legs.

Girad backed up against the wall as Hakur approached, a large hammer in hand.

“You… what are you doing?” Girad asked breathlessly. It hurt to move, to stand, to put his back to the wall like this, but he wanted to get away from Hakur.

“Well, when Anaria was with me, I sliced off her feathers to keep her from flying away,” Hakur said. He smiled at him, eyes burning with cruelty; Girad felt like he might piss himself.

“You don’t have wings or feathers,” Hakur continued, stepping closer. Girad was now backed into the corner, back against the wet stone, lacerations burning at the friction on them. “But you do have legs.”

“Hakur, no!”

That’s when he swung the hammer.

It hit his left knee hard, and there were cracks and crunches that he could not only hear, but feel. The pain response was delayed for some reason. Girad didn’t feel it till he had already collapsed, his leg giving out from underneath him.

He screamed when the hammer hit his right knee, Hakur attacking him while he was down. He was a frightening figure with the hammer in hand, his eyes almost glowing with satisfaction.

Girad thought he was going to hit him again. He moaned and sobbed on the dungeon floor, wishing he could do something to alleviate the pain, but there was no position he could get into that would help. All he wanted to do was curl into a ball.

Hakur lowered the hammer, but hefted it in his hand, as if considering swinging again. Girad prayed to the gods that he wouldn’t do it.

“Why… why didn’t you use your magic?” Girad choked out, confused. Would that have been better? Maybe not. Or, maybe it would have been a cleaner break. He was sure his kneecaps were now reduced to shards of bone. Agony pierced his body, his mind. He felt on the verge of passing out.

“I like the feeling of a weapon hitting flesh,” Hakur said. “The feeling of the bone breaking, or the cutting happening.” He said it as the most simple thing in the world, as if that was supposed to help Girad.

All it did was frighten him more.

“Have a good night, Girad,” Hakur said almost pleasantly, as if he hadn’t just destroyed his knees and thrown him into anguish.

Then he was leaving the cell, and Girad could not follow, could not try to escape.

Instead he stayed where he was on the floor, resting his head back, and crying hard.

He had no wings to cut or break…

So now his legs had taken the brunt of his punishment.

He felt like he’d rather die.

“The trunk shuddered against his back as weight subtly shifted, and the piece found its way to his lap. That little troublemaker. His ear twitched, listening, and he caught the sounds of tiny and controlled movements, daring to go higher despite her promises.”

While out on an outing with Iloniyn, Niri falls from a tree and breaks her ankle. Lucky for her, Ilo is well-versed in caring for adventurous girls who often scrape their knees (or, in this case, fracture their bones).

Whumptober Day 13: Breaking The Unbreakable

Eijiro groaned as he drifted into consciousness, the room bright around him.

Had he forgotten to turn the lights off before going to sleep again?

He tried to rock into a sitting position but found that he couldn't move his body. "The hell...?" he slurred, sleep making his tongue feel fuzzy.

Or, maybe that wasn't because of sleep.

Maybe it was because of the IV.

It was getting hard to tell if he’d gone past this hallway before or not, everything looked the same and time wasn’t exactly on his side to stop and look very long.

He had no choice but to continue forward, hoping he could maybe find an exit, or in the least, a place to hide. He could hear the heavy footsteps behind him, there was no way to backtrack, there was too much of a risk. Forward, however scary and unsure, was the only way to go.

Whumptober 13/31

prompt: you can't make an omelet without breaking a few legs

a/n: This one took a strange turn in planning. I'm hoping that it works out as I intended.

Obi-Wan swears that there’s some hidden oath in all medical people’s training that makes them refuse to give him painkillers before poking and prodding at the injured spots that they were called to treat. He gasps as the medic touches the offending spot on his leg. He’d once thought it was a universal creed about doctors doing no harm, but as he discovered on a mission with Qui-Gon, that’s only the expectation on some planets.

His vision goes white, and his chest tightens as the medic hits yet another very tender spot. There’s nothing but an unending, overwhelming pain.

“Just breath, sir,” the medic, a too young man in Obi-Wan’s opinion to be practicing medicine on his own, says. Even in pain and struggling for the few gulps of air that he’s gotten, he finds it condescending. Of course, he needs to breathe, but he also needs to not be hurting and whose fault was that?

Finally, the pain does fade back to the just there level instead of demanding all his attention. He’s spent and still working to regain his breath.

“Feeling better, sir?”

Obi-Wan has to bite his tongue and remember to release the anger to the Force because he just about tears off the young man’s head. Does he really think that he’s feeling better? And he could try not to smile when his patient is in immense pain.

“You really can’t… give me… anything for… the pain.”

“You have a concussion, sir. Painkillers and concussions are not a good mix.”

Obi-Wan isn’t sure of that rule but he’s not a medic.

“Can we please get…”

“You know I didn’t believe it when Master Windu told me,” Anakin says, interrupting Obi-Wan.

“Yes, yes. I’m sure it’s all over the Temple by now.” Obi-Wan rolls his eyes on instinct and instantly regrets it as it makes his head ache even more. “What do you… want?”

“Nothing. Just came to check on you after hearing you broke your legs in the kitchen.”

“Oh, it wasn’t just his legs, sir. He broke his right arm as well,” the medic helpfully supplies.

“Three limbs, Master, all because you wanted an omelet. You know I could have made you one and, unlike yours, it wouldn’t be burnt.”

Yes, yes, he knows that he’s a terrible cook and subjected Anakin to years of his barely edible cooking until the young man learned to cook for them both. He really doesn’t want to be reminded of it and the medic needs to mind his own business.

“Oh well,” he says, forcing a cheerfulness to his voice. “You know what they say, you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few legs, or limbs in my case apparently.”
