I kinda think that Jinwoo would tease the hell out of their partner if they start getting super flustered after their second awakening, ESPECIALLY if reader was with them pre-awakening and was kinda shy woth affection before too (shout out to my shy peeps akbdjbd) ofc he's respectful about boundaries but it doesn't mean he enjoys how cuter his s/o has become wjbdjdnd Not only that, I think Jinwoo would definately use their new height and stregnth to his advantage too! Okay so, I wanna talk about my sonboy Richas, my guy Felps, their relationship, and everything about yesterday as well

So, lets go :D

First thing, Felps actually really don't like taking care of Richas when he's without his armor

Felps has the terrible memory of being the one (together with Cellbit) to watch Richas first death. The three were at a cave and Felps and Cellbit were taken down first and had to watch Richas getting swarmed and die far from their grasp

The death was reverted, but still, when Felps logged in next time, Richas had JUST died to the bull again, so he already had 1 life. It was the very same day, just a couple hours after. Felps always reinforced about the armor, to the point he didn't let Richas take it off even when safe at Foolishs place when he could see Leo didn't wear it

Felps fucking loves that kid, he's just the quieter dad. He won't scream that much, when he panics, he shuts down and focus on the problem. He's the best dad to talk about feelings and often is the one who talks Richas out of his spiraling self deprecating thoughts, while other dads don't have the same touch

Felps has the patience to talk with Richas and hear Richas points. He always is the one talking him into a shower even if it takes a whole trip beforehand so Richas can have fun before it. He sings a lil song to get him through a shower. Ever since he came back from the lab, he trusts Richas a lot with his own strength, he knows Richas can defend himself even better than Felps can defend himself

It means a lot that Felps is the only dad Richas will listen to more easily, even if sometimes it takes a lot of talk and bargain to do so. Richas is a difficult kid, he channels all his sadness and pain into being silly and overly courageous, which means he will be a disobedient kid, he will put himself in danger, he won't listen to his dads if he can make a joke about it and it has been getting worse lately

Richas is Not doing okay, he's constantly scared of losing the ones he love, he feels easily replaceable which makes him panic and act out in 'jealousy'. He has said before he fears his siblings don't really like him and it's why he always wants to have family around, he knows he's a problem and has even apologized to Bad about it once. He thinks he can't express his love through words when he has written so many beautiful things, he paints bc its how he thinks he can better translate his care

Yesterday, after Bad took him and Felps to the graveyard and out of it, Richas went back with Felps and put some flowers around their graves. A small talk started when Felps wondered if the dead eggs were looking down at them, but also couldn't really believe it because they'd be too far up there to actually see anything. Richas then said how people used to tell him Bobby was up in between the stars, but they stopped telling him that 'story'. Then, this talk happened

"Do you think they'd [Dead eggs Richas never met] like me?"

"Ofc they would! Everyone loves you! They'd love you, Richas"

"If I had died today, would I meet them?"

Felps goes quiet for a couple seconds here, then goes back to talking

"Maybe, maybe not. We can never be sure, Richas. What if you died and it's just nothing after, huh? It's a big bet. You can't keep thinking like that and then go throw yourself in front of a zombie horse to find out if they're at the other side"

"Yeah, I wouldn't be able to annoy all the dads, it wouldn't be worth it... I'd miss you all so much" (He used the word saudade)

"Awwn... But you would be dead, Richas. We would be the ones missing you, we would be the ones staying behind"

And to me this is a very telling moment. Because Richas didn't realize people would miss him as well, he just thought about how he'd miss being with the others. He also says how he'd be in hell, missing his family but also laughing at tragedy. When Felps asks why hell, Richas goes "You really think I'd end up in heaven? With the way I am?"

Felps spends the rest of the stream hyping Richas up, telling him how much he's loved and how much everyone cares for him. Felps manages to get through Richas after a while, and they have a nice moment together. Richas already arrived to the square without armor, after having recently argued with Forever about it, and Felps didn't mind bc that area was all lightened up so less mobs were spawning, plus the aforementioned trusts he has on Richas

No one expected the horse because it came from outside the square, right out the border, and literally fell on top of them. Felps was quick to go after it, and Richas was caught out of surprise and got height damage as well, eating through 2 totems (and also having to switch out the other ones from his hand due to the rule)

Felps was smart about the horse, he always hit up high so there wouldn't be any risk of a misclick, he hit crit after crit pushing the horse away so he could better kill it without risking Richas, and he did it! I understand BBHs scare but everything was already solved and Richas was halfway being revived already

If anything, the trip to the cemetery scared Felps more than it did Richas. Richas is well used to the threat of death, he plays with it by jumping into mines and purposefully walking without armor around Forever. But Felps isn't. He wants his kid safe, he wants him alive. Felps was willing to never come back if it meant Richas could have an extra life, he would die over and over for that kid

After everything, he talked with Richas, and the kid didn't rlly need to be convinced to wear his armor now that he knew how the square can be tricky. Felps didn't need to yell, or compare Richas to anyone, or play lil games. Just a talk, and Felps' trust that Richa would now do his part, and he did!

Each mob they encountered next, Richas and Felps stayed side by side. Felps let Richas kill them first bc he knows Richas likes it, but always helping and telling him how he was doing it well. When they were rowing around later in the boat, music playing, Felps went on about how it was all that mattered

Richas was alive, Felps was alive, they got a scare but they were okay now. And it was all worth it for these calm, happy moments. These were the ones that should be remembered, the ones that made it all worth it

omg i stumbled across your blog recently and your art is gorgeous!!! i love the style and the way you draw dick in particular so much!

also i couldn’t stop thinking about your tangled au it’s so clever! it got me thinking of an au of your au (if that’s presumptuous or annoying feel free to ignore this ask lol). but it always bugged me slightly in the original tangled that rapunzel could remember stuff from when she was a baby bc babies can’t do that lol (obv she also has magic glowing hair so suspension of disbelief and all). but what if dick was actually older when slade (or court of owls tbh take your pick) kidnapped him? like he came under bruce’s care just like in canon after his parents died, and was around long enough to become brothers with jason, and tim had just been adopted when dick and bruce have a fight and dick storms off. not as bad as comics and bruce doesn’t kick him out bc he’s not an ass lol, but maybe dick wants to do more with his powers and bruce is overprotective, so dick storms out fully intending to come back, but slade has been watching him and takes this chance to kidnap him. and when bruce goes looking for him all he finds is a bloodstain and no dick.

and obviously dick is very keen on escaping the creepy dude who’s kidnapped him, but slade brings him to the basement of the tower and begins to torture/brainwash him sort of like the apprentice arc. and over time bc slade sucks and is good at the whole brainwashing thing, dick slowly looses his memories and eventually can’t remember a life outside of the tower at all. and he continues to grow up in the tower with slade as his “father” and he always has this sense that something isn’t quite right, but he can’t put his finger on it. like he has all these weird torture-like scars that he can’t remember getting, but slade tells him that it was from when he was young and before slade rescued him, and that’s why the world is so scary and dangerous and he has to stay in the tower where slade can protect him. and ofc he does bc slade loves him and wouldn’t lie to him right? and he doesn’t know why the name richard doesn’t fit him quite right, or why his heart races when slade appears unexpectedly (that’s how love works right?). but he stays in the tower like he’s supposed to until wally and roy show up.

and slowly after traveling with them he begins to get weird flashes of both painful and good memories, and strange sensations of deja vue. while meanwhile bruce is still all brooding and mourning bc it was his fight that led dick to run away. and added angst is that jason and tim actually remember and miss dick, even though tim had just started to get to know him. and damian is angsty bc he’s the only one never to have met dick (handwavy on the ages just like dc lol). meanwhile the kingdom still remembers and mourns the charismatic adorable prince that they lost.

and then when slade eventually catches up to and captures wally and roy, dick offers to give himself up and promises never to escape if slade spares them. and it’s extra sad bc he finally remembers what he’d be giving up. he remembers bruce and alfred and his brothers, and he remembers all the trauma slade put him through, and he’s willing to go through it all again to save wally and roy (bc is it really dick grayson if he isn’t super self sacrificing lol). and ofc it eventually ends happily and dick is delighted to go back to his family with his new friends and see his old brothers and meet his new brother all with a new haircut.

but yeah overall your au wormed its way into my brain and i couldn’t stop thinking about it lol, it’s so good!!!!

And OMG, this is amazing! Beautifully written, yes, absolutely love all the details, especially Slade's and Dick's relationship in all this. I've actually thought about him being taken later on so Tim and Jason would also remember Dick. But I think I started overthinking everything and made it way too complicated (I think I wrote about 20 pages of notes and stuff, I kinda got lost in them. I was/am pretty obsessed with this AU), so I just reeled back a bit and stayed close to the plot. It also simplifies things; I don’t have to rewrite the whole story, which, with my overthinking skills, would take forever. 💀

And that part with Slade making Dick forget who he was is great. I kept the whole AU pretty open with some stuff for imagination. My running idea at the moment is that he got sick when he was 8, so Bruce found the flower, and later Slade kidnapped him, making him forget everything and thinking Slade is his father.

But yeah, OMG, this is awesome. I totally love it. I tried to make it as detailed as possible story-wise, but at the same time, I really needed to limit myself to finish fast because I was scared I would lose interest or don’t have the patience haha But Now I’m kinda even more excited about how people will react to the next chapters. 👀

my tears ricochet but in the context of locklyle after lucy leaves in thb:

"even on my worst day did I deserve babe all the hell you gave me" -> lockwood being so emotionally stunted didnt know how to work thru his feelings in any way other than distancing himself for lucy through no fault of hers (or his technically)

"I swear I loved you till my dying day" -> even throughout their fight/all the way till she left (and even beyond that) lucy loved lockwood so much despite how cold he was to her and how hurt she felt GIVE MY GIRL A BREAK

"you know I didn't want to have to haunt you" -> lucy and lockwood being irrevocably tied to each other

"I didn't have it in myself to go with grace" -> all the fights with holly where lucy was acting arguably petty/immature but only because she was losing her favourite person to someone else

"and you're the hero flying around, saving face" -> lockwood always wanting to preserve his/the company's reputation, wanting to be the best/the 'hero,' acting distant from lucy cuz he wouldn't confront/accept the reality of their relationship (+ strain from him wishing she wouldnt be so reckless which like LOL pot kettle black etc)

"and if I'm dead to you why are you at the wake?" -> pre aickmere's incident, where lucy was getting more and more desperate but he was still so cold towards her

"cursing my name, wishing I stayed" -> sums up lockwood's complicated/conflicting feelings about lucy SO well, he loves her but also hates her for putting herself in danger and is so scared of being that vulnerable with her UGHH

"cause when I'd fight you used to tell me I was brave" -> this is like all those times when lucy went along w lockwood even when he was being reckless cuz HELL if she was going to let him be reckless alone, and they kind of understood each other on that level the way no one else in the series rlly does like its this sacred mutual recognition thats so special to them, but the "you USED to tell me" indicating how their relationship has disintegrated and how that special bond/ANY kind of special bond btw them is rapidly dissolving. also abt how lucy who has been so tough and strong all alone for so long in her life rlly valued lockwood's support/started to need him (was quite bad off without him in her apartment). ofc she's brave and a part of her knows it, but that warmth of having someone stand by your side to catch u if u fall?? irreplacable

"you can aim for my heart go for blood but you would still miss me in your bones" -> references how mean he was towards her but underlying all that was his love and need for her still </3 also, connotation of bones = skeleton = death = the empty grave waiting for him??

"and I still talk to you when I'm screaming at the sky"/"and when you cant sleep at night you hear my stolen lullabies" -> lockwood esp is so haunted by lucy after she leaves, 'screaming' referencing lucy's predisposition to get mad rather than sad, lockwood's insomnia like it all just lines up so WELL

"and so the battleships will sink beneath the waves" -> battleships symbolising all the visitors they fought together + maybe even more personal things like helping lockwood process the death of his family, lucy's trauma etc (their shared battles), all of that being left to be eroded by time as if it never existed, as if the thousand tiny moments that made up their relationship never happened

"you turned into your worst fears" -> come off it you know I'd die for you = his number one fear is LOSING LUCY which he does when she leaves. not exactlyyy the same cyz she's still alive but without him there to '''''protect''''' her (he is so that kind of bf) its one step towards this nightmare of his materialising

"tossing out blame, drunk on this pain" -> blaming himself (which is only partially warranted), acting so out of character, becoming even more reckless as he writhes with the pain of losing lucy, becoming more detached from the value of his life etc, almost manic in the haze of his agony

The following morning, Alex, James, Steve and Tony were in the police conference room. Alex’s leg was bouncing hard, and James put his hand over her knee. “Doll, please relax.”

“Alex, its going to be fine. The guy I’m setting you up with is a pro,” Tony said just as the doors opened.

“I am. Have a winning record and everything,” a man said as he walked in with another man. “Helmut Zemo,” he said as he offered his hand to Alex.

“Alexandra Barnes. Nice to meet you.”

“I wish it could have been under better conditions, Mrs. Barnes.” He sat across from her on the table.

“Please call me Alex.” She fidgeted with her hands. “Inspector Zemo, can you tell me how this would work?”

“Call me Helmut.” He took out a sheet of paper and handed copies to everyone. “Its pretty straight forward. Once Mr. Grey arranges his meet with you, our team will go and scout the area for all exits, compromised routes and devise a plan of action. We would put a wire, which is not actually a wire, on you so we can listen in.”

“Would she be sent in alone?” James squeezed Alex’s hand.

“If its asked of her, yes. Either way, we would have someone close to her to get her out if needed.”

“What about our son?”

“I would recommend placing him somewhere out of the way with people you trust. Alex,” Zemo looked at her. “We will do everything we can to help you and your family. Let me put your mind at ease.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out an ordinary looking bracelet. “This is your wire.”

“It’s a bracelet.”

The room chuckled. “Yes, doll, but it has a listening device embedded in it. We can hear everything going on as long as it maintains skin contact,” James explained.

“How much does he have to talk for you to arrest him?”

“We just need him to threaten you.” Tony crossed his arms. “Once he does that, we can submit this to the court for a restraining order and place him under investigation.”

“He had a lot of powerful friends,” Alex remarked. “Do you think this will work?”

“Alexandra, I will be honest with you.” Zemo stood up and walked to lean on the table next to her, arms cross. “This is dangerous. I think its brave for you to do this to pin this bastard. But, as a realist, I recommend having your affairs in order. Your husband is a police officer; he can tell you how dangerous something like this really is. You must decide if going through with this investigation is the best option for you and your family.”

Alex swallowed as the fear rose, feeling the bile in her throat. She got up and ran out of the room and to the restroom next door. She fell to her knees, throwing up. She could hear the door open and close and then hands on her back. “I’m here doll. Breathe.”

The door opened and closed again, and James handed Alex a bottle of water. “Sip, doll.”

“I can’t do this. I can’t do any of this.”

“You don’t have to Allie. We can take off right now.”

Alex took a swig of water and spit it out before taking a drink. “We’d be running forever.”

“Yeah, probably.”

“We’ll never be able to settle.”

“That’s probably true.”

“You really want to live like that?”

“If it kept you and Drew and Steve safe.”

Alex took another drink. She got up and cleaned herself in the mirror. She reached for James’s hand and went back to the conference room where the guys were talking amongst themselves. “Helmut, I understand the concern. But I can’t run from my past forever. I need to do this. Tony, I would like to apply for a weapons permit. Stevie, Jamie, I would like to get some training in.”

“Are you sure doll?”

“He took my family from me. I won’t let him take this.”

Ding.

That noise was starting to grate on Alex’s nerves. The amount of fear that flooded her when she heard it made her body hurt. It had been two weeks since the meeting at the police station. Two weeks of workouts, training and learning about gun safety (at James’s insistence.) Alex had put Nat in charge of the business while she prepared.

Ding.

“For fucks sake,” she mumbled after jumping for the 20th time that day. It hadn’t been Grey this entire time and she was on edge. She went to pick up her phone and froze.

Pet, Fishermen’s Warf, Noon, Three days. A geotag was attached to the message.

She sank to the floor. Three days. Three days with her family. Three days to make the arrangements. She screenshot the message and sent to the guys. She got up and went to make Drew’s after school snack. The door flew open 20 minutes later. Alex kept her head down.

“Doll?”

“Hi love.”

“Allie, look at me.”

Alex dragged her head up to look at her husband. Who looked like his heart had been torn out. Her lip trembled. “Jamie…”

James pulled her close as she began to cry. “Everything is going to be ok, understand. Tony and Zemo are already casing the area to map everything. Steve is already getting your weapon ready for practice. We are going to get through this.”

“Jamie, we have to go see the lawyer.”

“No.”

“James…”

“I said no. We don’t need to because nothing is going to happen. You will do the meet and then come home. Please Alex,” he held her head in his hands, lacing his fingers in her hair. “Don’t.”

“We have to. We have to because we have a son who needs to be cared for in case anything happens.” Alex turned her face enough to kiss James’s palm. “It gives me peace of mind.”

“I hate this.”

“I do too.”

After getting their will and trust together, Alex and James went to meet the rest of the team at the wharf. “This asshole knows how to pick them,” Tony commented.

“That’s not helping Stark,” James replied.

“I know, sorry, it’s just… this leaves a lot of things opened. There are too many routes in and out, too many people and too many ways for that little weasel to escape or take her with him. Just the water alone makes this impossible.”

“So, what she doesn’t meet him?” Steve asks.

“She doesn’t have a choice.”

“Ok, just walk me through it,” Allie asked.

They walked the wharf, Tony and Zemo pointing out potential exits and blind spots. All the information made Alex’s head spin. She knew how to case an area. Hell, she did it for four years without giving it a second thought. But the thought that it was all to protect her made her continuously nauseous.

“Alex, I have to say it.”

“Please don’t Tony. I get it. With my past, I get it. This doesn’t look good.” She looked around. “If I was a thief, this would be perfect.”

“Alex, its best if we just go straight forward with Grey,” Zemo commented. “We will have you wired, and the place surrounded. It would be the best we can do.”

She nodded. “I guess.”

“I’ll be escorting you Ale,” Steve said. “It’s better if Bucky doesn’t go anywhere near this guy. He’ll drive you in though.”

“I – I think I want to go back home now.” Alex kept a stiff upper lip but inside she was dying. She understood what was going to happen. She would walk out but not by herself. She needed the next couple of days with her husband and son.

The next couple of days were a whirlwind of emotions. Alex kept it in check in front of Drew. They went to the zoo, the park, anywhere except near the water, building memories for them to have. The night before, Alex packed Drew’s bag to take to Nat and Wanda’s. She wrote a note to him.

My baby Drew,

If you are reading this, momma had to go away for a little bit and I’m sorry that I didn’t get to say goodbye. I’ll try to come back as soon as I can my baby boy. Please listen to your dad and Uncle Steve. They will take care of you. Keep working at school. You are so smart, and I know you’ll do great things.

Please don’t be mad at your dad. He tried. I know he did.

As they dropped him off, Alex handed the note along with some other cards and envelopes. “Just in case,” she said to Nat.

“Don’t say that. Please, Ale, you’re gonna be fine.”

“I know. I just can’t leave without knowing he’ll be ok.”

“He will be. He’ll be better when you get back.” Nat hugged her friend hard.

“Please take care of them,” she whispered. “Promise me.”

“I promise. Won’t need to because you’re coming back but I will.”

They let go. “Love you.”

“Love you too.”

Alex was silent on the way back home. Steve was staying with Tony to give the couple more privacy. It was the last night, even if James was in denial that nothing was going to happen. Alex knew. She had known how Grey operated. He was going to take what he believed was his no matter what.

James made love to Alex that night slow, lingering kisses, feather-like touches, whispers sad in the night. When she was asleep, he watched her, memorizing every line, freckle, the curve of her lip, every stand of hair. He was afraid to sleep, that she would disappear again.

He woke with a start. He looked at Alex was gone. “Allie!” He got up and put on some boxers. “Allie!”

“I’m right here.” She was sitting in the window seat, grasping a mug.

“Baby?”

“I couldn’t sleep anymore. I just wanted to watch the sunrise.”

James lifted her up and sat her on his lap, her back to his front, holding on to her. “What are you thinking about?”

“I’m scared.” Her voice is small.

Alex twists to look at James. “Jamie, I…”

“It’s ok doll. Don’t say it, I know.” He kisses her forehead.

“Over everything.” She reaches up to kiss him. It’s not the last time. But it feels like it.

omg 😭

i'll be honest i'm constantly rotating him in my mind like a rotisserie chicken so the thoughts arent always coherent but...

i think part of why I like josuke so much and why he's so compelling is that despite his "delinquent" looks and layer of nonchalance he wears like a well-fitted jacket, he cares DEEPLY and doesn't actually want to hurt anyone. i've always been a sucker for the delinquent with a heart of gold trope and he fits it to a T. Like when Jotaro showed up, Josuke didn't HAVE to apologize for his very existence causing strife in the family of the man who got his mom pregnant and never looked back. he didn't have to be understanding about it. he could have lashed out and told jotaro to fuck off and i don't think anyone would have blamed him for it because growing up half-white (and gay imo) in a small japanese town and being raised by a single mom (in the 80s and 90s especially!!!) could not have been easy. he's been othered since the day he was born thanks to joseph (even if joseph didn't intentionally abandon him). AND STILL!!! the first thing he does is apologize.

and then we get to the fight with the nijimura bros right. he ends up beating okuyasu pretty handily (ha) but acknowledges that his stand is pretty scary. AND THEN ... he watches the guy who just tried to kill him, who has a stand with a terrifyingly dangerous ability, get absolutely obliterated by his own brother and not only drags him OUT of danger, getting himself injured in the process, he HEALS him!! this guy who he has no business to like or trust not to attack him again--in fact that's the whole reason okuyasu came back into the house to begin with!!! josuke heals him because the well of his empathy is practically bottomless. even after that, he lets okuyasu into his house + life and the rest is history.

i think josuke feels a lot and feels it very deeply but because of all the ways he's different (stand, race, sexuality, pride, sense of duty) he stuffs anything that might make him look weak or vulnerable so far down that he's able to pretend that it doesn't exist. he's able to pretend that nothing really gets to him. until someone makes fun of his hairstyle and he explodes--which seems like a very silly character trait until you realize all these other things are constantly building up inside him, things he pretends don't bother him, things he brushes off in the moment and tries not to think about. they're adding up anyway and when he's finally forced to release some of those emotions, they come out angry and violent and sudden. and then it's over because he's let off enough steam to put the lid back on. and ofc thanks to his stand there are zero consequences for this (and everyone who gets the worst of josuke's rage "deserves it"......don't they? <- thoughts that keep josuke up at night years after DIU.)

(Araki doesn't explore this at all but I think there's a very real chance that Josuke's intense rage fits could scare him a bit. He literally has no control over himself. That's pretty scary. if he didn't have his stand to bail him out after it would be even scarier....and you know. its definitely possible that he could just go too far one day)

he should go to therapy imo and get help with regulating his emotions but thats not as much fun as putting him thru the wringer (my favorite thing to do)

#like i said this is likely barely coherent #but i think about the way he's built emotionally A Lot and i have a very big fic im working on where i explore a lot of this #maybe one day i'll even finish it!

screaming and crying you’re so sweet thank you 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 okay lemme try to tell u a bit about her but fair warning every time I talk about my ocs I feel like I’m metaphorically putting on rollerblades and flailing and falling and exploding 👍🏻

(also after I’ve typed all this out I’m realizing I should put a trigger warning for domestic abuse and vague implied infanticide)

so fjóla is a leopard seal selkie and lilija’s mother (whom she looks nothing alike, babygirl is the spitting image of her spotted seal father) who is deceased within the like, “current” timeline my characters are set. she was born into a group of selkies that lived their lives mostly as seals as opposed to integrating into society as most selkies in this universe do; the status quo is more or less for selkies to live near or on water and spend time as both seals and humans, but more traditional ones like fjóla and her pack will remain seals for the vast majority of their lives, only occasionally partaking in humanoid environments.

however, she did unfortunately end up living most selkies’ nightmare; her coat was taken and she was trapped in a house with a man she didn’t love and a child she was forced to bear, the main twist being that her “husband” (they never officially married but it’s an easier shorthand), steingrímur, was actually a selkie as well. to make a long story short because this ain’t about him, him and his family became traitors to their local community by helping a gang of dangerous poachers hunt the other selkies for their coats in exchange for immunity. the deal began with steingrímur’s grandfather, and they operated this way in secrecy up until steingrímur was a young adult. by this time, his father and his grandfather had become much more callous about the terrible things they were doing, and began developing a sort of self-hatred fueled “code,” beginning to believe that selkies were a weak, defenseless species that were only ever known for being taken and owned by stronger predators, so it was their responsibility to “rise above” the rest of them and train themselves up as superior superpredators. steingrímur was groomed from the ground up with this mindset, and his “initiation” as a hunter was to capture a particularly fierce leopard seal with a beautiful, pure white coat, which was ofc fjóla. his capture of her coincided with the rest of their local community finding out what exactly their family business entailed, and they had were deemed traitors and had to flee. steingrímur absconded with fjóla and fled while his father and grandfather were captured and essentially community-executed a la ken mcelroy lol.

anyway, all that to say—she was a miserable woman. her coat was taken and sold for a hefty price (its color was pure and rare, on top of the selkie coat black market paying big money for such an illicit good, as in this universe, a selkie’s coat can really only be obtained ethically by being inherited, willingly handed over, etc), she was forced to move somewhere where she knew nothing and nobody, and she had to learn to live life as a human as she had no other option. and she had to do all of it with a very sick, abusive man who held beliefs diametrically opposed to the ones she was raised with—she wanted to live life as a free animal in the open ocean, while her “husband” looked down on her for not getting with the times and abandoning instincts that don’t serve her, and as he sees it, got her captured. he essentially kept her as a trophy. as a cook. and as the vessel that would bear his protege.

she was not cruel in the slightest but she had trouble with warmth and compassion in a conventional sense. her only motherly instincts were very objective; feed the baby, change the baby, put the baby to bed. try not to smother the baby as you stare down at her in her crib, thinking it the only way to guarantee she escapes the man you never could. both her nails and her long, jagged, sharp teeth were kept clipped after she gave steingrímur one too many scars, and she was eventually further sedated with medication and alcoholism. as her daughter grew older, fjóla’s love language primarily became warnings and harbingers of doom; she warned lilija not to be coveted, captured, or desired for her beauty as so many of their species are. she taught her to look over her shoulder at every turn, trust no one, and assume the worst. you don’t want to be a mother or a wife. look at what it’s done to me. promise me you’ll never let anyone close enough to make that happen. promise me that you’ll remember nothing is more important than your freedom. promise me you’ll stop looking more and more like your father every day.

she sometimes waded out into the ocean, forgetting to shed her clothes first, and pretended for seconds at a time that if she wanted to, she could pull her coat over her shoulders and swim away.

anyway. fjóla is very much a character I created to explore motherhood, womanhood, isolation, flattening someone into an image or a memory or a ghost rather than a real person, inherited fear and rage and repression between mother and daughter…she was of course abused and unwell, but the things she told and taught lilija in her formative years played a huge part in lilija’s paranoia regarding interpersonal relationships and how difficult it is for her to form them. fjóla ended up being less a person and more a symbol in everyone’s eyes; a symbol of accomplishment and dominance to steingrímur, and a symbol of every fear and every nightmare any seal woman has ever had to her daughter.

so for ❔, i've been working on a kyotan fic where kyo is an orca hybrid and tan is a fisherman who fishes frequently in the orca's territory (very dangerous!! but there's a lot of fish and other sea creatures) bc he just cant catch enough to feed his family in the Safe Zone aka the areas just slightly beyond the reefs

the village folk keep telling tan not to fish near the orcas bc there are rumours that the orcas like to sink ships and foreign entities due to their territorial nature

but ofc tan simply smiles through their repeated warnings and continues to fish in the area to put food on the table for his dear family

one thing leads to another, and one day, tan slips into the ocean while fishing and is pulled under by the strong currents

after that, he wakes up and finds himself in a mostly dry cave with a mysterious lump of seaweed and a broken piece of steel from what seems to formerly be an anchor by his side

*whispers* he's rescued by kyo but he doesn't know that until later in the fic xD

kyo actually saved him bc he thought tan would make a nice meal, but tan was definitely all lean muscles and bones from working hard everyday

so he keeps tan in this little cave hidden from the shores while taking care of tan secretly at night, leaving behind what he thinks humans eat and definitely not what humans can eat

tan is of course confused and wants to leave the cave, but he didnt manage to swim very far from the entrance of the cave before being stopped by the wall of debris surrounding it

so he returns to the cave to rest and recover before trying again the next day

some dumb shenanigans ensue when kyo and tan finally meet xD

like when tan wakes up just a tad bit too early one day and catches a glimpse of the tip of a dark tail slipping into the water

he thinks, aha! this must be the creature that keeps leaving behind weird inedible stuff in the cave each day!

so he makes a decision to wake up a little earlier the next day to see whether he can catch the creature in action or not

i havent gotten far with the plot yet so yeah hahhahahah

and for 💗, its a scene from another WIP kyotan fic hahahahha, the deity AU with byakko!kyo and sacrificial bride!tan

there's this awkward bath scene (and more) i really want to write, where kyo is desperately trying to deny and repress his budding feelings for tan, but tan keeps doing the little things he always does as The Perfect Big Brother TM, such as giving kyo a full body grooming session while in tiger form (normally a mortal most definitely wouldnt dare to get so close to a powerful deity of protection, of defense, let alone dare to touch the deity's fur so nonchalantly)

and tan is oblivious to kyos feelings bc he doesnt see him that way (yet), and more so of a, "awhhh the all powerful deity is actually living quite a lonely life of solitude, i should keep him company for a while", after he gets over the scare of tricking a deity as strong as kyo xD

so! kyos taking a bath, and tan decides to join him midbath, to which kyo freaks internally and chooses to excuse himself first, but not before his heart races uncontrollably and he makes a sputtering fool of himself in front of tan (who thinks kyo's just having one of /those days/ and needs some cheering up, so he follows kyo relentlessly throughout the whole day, making kyo even more flustered xD)

unfortunately, this will not be :D . this will be D:

tw : familial abandonment, drug use & dealing (doesnt go into huge detail but its mentioned), manipulation/shitty friends, depression, self-worth issues, self-destructive behaviour

so mack (it/any btw) is a character who is very convinced he has already gone through his Character Arc(TM) and doesn't need any more help with his issues. and like, he absolutely got over a lot of issues he used to have, but a lot of other ones were just... pushed down to a place where it can pretend those problems don't exist anymore.

mack was shunned by its whole family when they were turned into a vampire at 15 by their manipulative and shitty vampire "friends", and ran away shortly after. they almost immediately fell into a group of shady people, since that was what it was used to. mostly, these people broke a lot of laws to have a lot of quite-dangerous-in-retrospect parties. illegal fireworks, irresponsible drug use, dares like "play chicken but with cars instead of swings", that sorta thing. mack knew at least 2 people who died at these things and it was not uncommon for them to wake up six blocks away with a memory gap of several hours

this went on for 2-3 years, im not quite sure, until one day mack watched One More person die at a party and was like . hey . maybe this isn't a good use of my life. and he just... ran away again? not in the same way, but he just ghosted everyone she knew and had to start over. it had a lot of shady/sneaky skills from times it used to help w drug dealing, so it put those skills into working on not-super-legal issues but in a significantly safer context (essentially scamming billionaires).

at this time, around age 18 or so, Mack was also loitering a lot at a cafe frequented by university students. at this spot was where Mack met the then-20 and extremely optimistic (lmao) James, a first-year theoretical physics major. when James (Sufferinf w/ rent) realized mack was homeless, he offered to let it stay with him, and mack then officially had a living space ! hurrah. this was the point where mack went "okay so clearly i am now okay. i have a house, food, a less-illegal-than-before job, and am not actively and dangerously using drugs or doing horrifically reckless things. im normal!" and shoved all their issues under the rug

those issues included the fact that by this point mack was just. incapable of showing negative emotions, bc they thought no one would love them if they did bc they'd be too much of a burden. (this is heightened by the fact their chronic pain started at 17.) then there's also the insistence that their constant exhaustion, apathetic feelings, and deep fear of getting close to people is Normal And Fine, their fear of any person who presents themself as a parental or otherwise familial figure, their feelings that it's not worth anything if it can't make others constantly happy, and her inability to cope with anything that she doesn't know how to bullshit through.

by the time the story starts, Mack and James have collected 2 more roommates (Leah and Spacey) (and they will get Val next ofc). James is... significantly more tired and significantly less optimistic, which also makes Mack feel more like she's in control (like, see, even JAMES is doing bad! so surely it's just the average stress of life. i'm ok. never once does he consider James is just also crumbling till like halfway through the book, and that is actually a tense side of their friendship). mack is very very convinced that since it's not actively putting itself in danger twice a week, it's FINE, and no one has to WORRY, and--

then val comes along and kinda. forcibly makes him realize he is not ok. and funky story things ensue :3

i dunno if it was suggested before, but... specie swap AU.

like, what if kane was a cat, laxo was a dog etc...

and now it made me thinking - every animal has a symbolic meaning, right?

cat usually means independence = laxo is striving to be free and live on his own rules and not to be enslaved by anyone.

dog symbolises loyalty = kane is loyal, but in the same time feli and vis want him to be devoted, and he is like "dog on chain", especially later after the first volume ofc - and he is miserable due to it, as dogs on chains are (luckily kane breaks from the chain, i hope he does u are loved kane remember)

leopard symbolises royalty, but in same time destruction = fits feli ngl (despite her not being royalty but high in hierarchy)

wolves are also perceived as imposing, often nobly animals, but they are also symbolising danger, greed and cruelty = fits the blackwood family, but the negative things especially fit nex and maybe vis too?

even the sin councils's species kinda make sense basing on sins they represent! (at least in my eyes)

changing their species might change our characters' symbolism too, however it can also make us look at them and analyse from different light. for example swapping kane and laxo's species in specie swap AU would still make sense basing on their stories.

i'm very sorry for such a long question (or rather analysis at this point) but this made me thinking, especially after you said that in runes you try to put symbolism everywhere 😅 (fans of symbolism in stories, unite)

and you probably haven't thought that much about species and it's me exaggerating things but that's okay, i wanted to share my thought with you and ask what do you think?

OUGH.... i love this analysis so much. and i actually have thought about my choice in species! perhaps not initially (since i first created these characters when i was like ten) but since developing the story properly thinking about how my character's species and how they relate to their respective arcs happened to work pretty damn perfectly!!

even with maya in a way- snow leopards are seen as graceful, brave, and taking initiative. but her characters subverts that expectation because she is cowardly, brash, and fearful of commitment.

and of course its not hard to think about kenta, who is a literal mixture of a cat and dog. born and trained to be devoted and loyal yet being unable to shake her need for independence and freedom.

so in that sense, a species swap au would certainly be interesting!!! definitely never feel sorry for sending long asks these are literally my favorite ones to get! :D
