how i started to feel pretty
hey loves! i’ve struggled with feeling insecure over my looks, but recently i’ve made changes that have helped me be less insecure. little improvements with my lifestyle and mindset have already made a big difference. first i’m going to talk about my insecurities, then what i did and then general tips.
my insecurities:
hyperpigmentation. i have bad undereye bags due to genetics that landed my family to call all of our eyes “raccoon eyes.” then redness above my eyelids, then darkness above my upper lip no matter how much i shaved. 
facial asymmetry. we all have it, but i felt so bad anytime i took a selfie and i couldn’t bear to take any photos of myself. 
body dysmorphia. this one is weird. i don’t view my body the way others do, and honestly the way i view it changes all the time.
changes i’ve made:
first i started doing things that didn’t help. they were temporary solutions that did nothing. i used concealer and powder for the hyperpigmentation- but it looked cakey and a little ashy-kinda cuz i wasn’t using a color corrector. for my body i did these “abs in 2 weeks!” challenges during covid, and was restrictive, which is the worst thing you can do for yourself.
for my skin:
i started using the glycolic acid serum by the ordinary. this stuff is life changing! i’ve been going makeup free on my skin lately and my skin tone has gotten so much more even. plus it’s affordable and it’s a giant bottle.
for my face:
i started doing face massages for muscle tension
i also realized that my facial asymmetry is 1) normal (we all have it to a certain extent and 2) it’s probably not as bad as i think it is. 
for my body:
i’ve started to focus more on health than appearances, because that my view of my body is distorted. i don’t see it like other people do, so i need to prioritize my health. i started eating MORE- more foods that are healthy, more fruits and vegtables. instead of restricing i allowed myself to have more.
i developed a pilates plan that focused on building strength, and incorporated a little bit of weights. now that i play sports i’ve put an emphasis on strength which has actually helped me get more toned.
journaling. i began to write down about my feelings- the way i view other people vs. the way i view myself. it made me realize how social media gave me an unrealistic image, and how i wasn’t viewing myself the way i really am.
advice:
what are you insecure about? the first step is just writing down your biggest insecurities- aka why don’t you feel beautiful? what made you feel this way? no one is born feeling ugly- we’re all taught to feel this way, whether it’s comments that have been made to us or others.
find people with similar stories. this helped me in the past, watching videos about people who had the same insecurities as me, it opened my eyes to how harshly i treat myself. 
get to the root of it. for my skin i realized that covering up my hyperpigmentation with makeup wouldn’t solve the problem, so i put an emphasis on incorporating things into my skincare routine that could solve the problem, without makeup!
think in the long-term. think about what’s healthy for you, and the most natural way of doing so. for example, when it came to my body i had to think about what’s healthy for me overall, not a quick fix. quick fixes aren’t attainable!
prioritize mental and physical health. i think we should all embrace our natural beauty by focusing on our skincare and the health of our hair. additionally, mental health is equally important, especially when it comes to body image.
positive thinking. a lot of times we tend to vocalize our negative thoughts, ive heard ppl make horrible comments about their bodies and things like that. first of all, stop saying those things out loud- you’re only reaffirming them in your head, and furthering the bad feeling. when you get horrible thoughts about yourself, try to stop them and replace them with good ones. even if you don’t believe it at first, you soon will.
it sometimes takes a while for beautiful people to realize how gorgeous they are. i had friends who i thought were some of the prettiest girls in the world, but they didn’t even realize it. i bet there’s so many people in your life who look at you and see the beauty in you that you don’t see in yourself. just stay healthy and keep positive thoughts, and i hope in time you’ll see your inner and outer beauty.

She looked up and watched the way he easily flipped the lighter open, flicked the switch, and lit the white end. The burning embers mixed with the product, his throat taking in a long, slow drag of the filter before letting the gray cloud escape his lips. He looked down at the woman with infatuation in her eyes, chuckling when she rubbed her face into his neck, clinging to him like a koala before the spell of sleep began to take over. Billy’s fingers ran through her strawberry locks, helping her fall deeper into a pleasant slumber.
“I love you Chrissy.”
He meant it. This wasn’t a ploy or a scripted line that he would say to her just to make her feel good about herself. Every time he said it, there was true generosity and kindness behind that phrase. One thing was certain, Billy would do everything to keep her safe. To love her in a way that he never thought he could. He often wondered who on earth could love a beast like him that was only known for his body. She could see that there was something more to him, he had an inkling towards the beauty as well.
He wanted more moments like this, not just sex, but quiet moments of closeness. Perhaps there was a definite chance that such moments could happen. For now all he wanted was to be with her, to hold her. He snuffed out the light in his dirty ashtray and kissed her forehead, sweetly whispering her name before letting himself fall asleep as well.
They were definitely going to be sore tomorrow.

Vil dieting the SDC crew is another thing the localization tweaked from JP. Vil calls sweets and soft drinks the (future) cause of their obesity (肥満) in CH 22 and puts them on an obvious weight loss diet of chicken breast and veggies even in EN. There are different perspectives about how to consolidate the localization vs original, and I think it’s useful to be aware of both of them.

Yes, one notable change between JP and EN is the censorship of many mentions of weight. This is particularly noticeable in regards to Azul’s backstory, in which his being overweight is not mentioned. I believe this occurred because people in the west are more sensitive when it comes to that subject (again, NOT confirmed, just my hunch).
In the original post, I was speaking based on a reading of the episode from TWST JP and pointing out major changes between JP and EN (altered terminology and cut content). Vil does indeed have dialogue in JP in which he states he will watch the other boys’ figures; it doesn’t necessarily mean he wants them to actively lose weight. It means he wants them to maintain a healthy weight and to build muscle; Vil is not saying anyone is currently in need of losing weight. Rather, he says the change in diet is to help “thoroughly tone” their bodies (in reference to muscles; ie “whipping them into shape”). They will need this muscle for their performance and endurance on stage.

As I said before, the detail of Vil “watching their figures” is not present in EN. Instead, he makes a general statement about how their “minds and bodies” must be like mirrors, perfectly polished. I neglected to mention the difference in the original post as it didn’t make a huge difference in understanding the overall story.
In both JP and EN, Vil still cites optimal nutritional intake as the main reason for implementing a new diet for the VDC/SDC group. He confiscates everyone’s snacks because they are often rich in simple carbohydrates, which aren’t as filling but usually come in high calorie processed foods. They’re just counterproductive for performers to consume, as it prompts a person to eat more and overshoot recommended daily caloric intakes.
I just wanted to clarify that while a low calorie, high protein diet (ie the chicken and vegetables) can help with weight loss, it’s also not a “starvation diet” as some have interpreted it to be; both Vil and Rook say that the menu is meant to meet their nutritional needs for rigorous dance and singing practice. Vil also allows Epel and co. to have healthy items in moderation such as nuts, dried fruits, and apple juice; he does not ban all snacks. It wouldn’t make sense if Vil underfed his fellow performers, as this would hinder the entire group and thus his chances at defeating his rival. “Dieting” is not always inherently tied to wanting to lose weight; “dieting” is simply a change in one’s eating habits, which can be done for a variety of reasons.
The fact that EN still retains the details of the diet but cuts out the weight mention leads me to believe the primary intent of the diet is to make sure the boys are eating healthily. Knowing the alterations between JP and EN isn’t necessary to enjoy TWST, but I think the awareness of them helps with understanding cultural differences and how that can impact the presentations and fandom perceptions of characters, scenes, and motivations. For example, 肥満 (which can translate to obesity (medical term) or general excess weight (general term) sounds less… harsh in Japan? If that makes sense?? But the same term in English is seen as taboo due to differences in cultural attitudes surrounding weight. So Vil mentioning obesity in JP isn’t a huge issue, whereas it could be seen as offensive if the localizers had brought the line over to EN.

“Please,” Adam gasps. “God, don’t make me wait. Mox, please.” He struggles against the press of Mox’s hands against his wrists, aching for more contact, more pressure, more anything.
Adam knows how he got here, knows the request was his and his alone. But, fuck, if Mox didn’t give him exactly what he wants in the worst possible way.
“Look at you,” Mox says, almost worshipful. “You thought you couldn’t be moved to the point of begging, and here you are.” He runs a finger along Adam’s cheek and Adam tilts his head, catching the tip of his finger in his mouth. “You’re so beautiful like this.”
“Experiment’s a success,” Adam laughs, desperate and squirming. “You did it. You made me beg. Now please just – something. Give me anything.”
Adam watches as Mox’s eyebrow wiggles. “Anything?”
“Don’t like, kick me in the nuts, but fuck me or something, god.”
Mox stares at his face for a moment, making Adam feel known and seen and exposed in a way he’s never experienced. Eyes still locked on his, Mox moves his hand and waits. Like he’s waiting to see what Adam will do.
When he can’t resist it anymore, Adam pushes himself up and wraps his hand around the back of Mox’s neck, dragging him into the kind of kiss that only feeds the flame inside of him. The problem is Adam doesn’t even know what he wants right now, not specifically, he just wants hands on him and maybe a mouth again.
He whines against Mox’s lips, remembering the creative things they had been doing around his cock. Mox’s tongue slides into his mouth and it turns Adam’s bones to liquid. He wants to surround himself with Mox.
“Fuck me,” he gasps against Mox’s lips. “That’s – I want you to fuck me.”
“Yeah?” Mox asks. He pulls back and smiles. “Ask pretty, baby. I know you know how to beg.”
Adam drops his head back against the pillow. “Please fuck me, Mox. I can’t wait anymore, I need something.” His chest tightens. “Please.”
“Beautiful,” Mox says, and he reaches to the bedside table and pulls out a condom. “So fuckin’ beautiful.”
Adam can’t even breathe until Mox’s fingers are inside him. It’s a relief, a bit, but nothing close to quelling the fire that’s burning inside of him.
“Now,” Adam pleads. “Mox, I’m ready, please.”
“Alright, hold your horses,” Mox says. He looks at Adam again with those kind eyes and that sweet gaze. “I gotta say, Cowboy, this isn’t what I expected to do after a Dynamite, but hell if I’m complaining.”
When Mox slides home, Adam finally can relax. He can almost feels his muscles unwinding, the tension flooding out of him.
“Jesus,” Mox says, tone damned near reverent. “You really did need it, didn’t you?”
Adam, eyes closed, nods as Mox starts moving. “Mhm.”
He doesn’t know how much time passes before he’s about to come. He doesn’t know what words he’s said, what words Mox has spoken. But he’s able to grip Mox’s arm as a warning.
“Of course,” Mox says gently. Adam opens his eyes to drown in blue sweetness and a smile. “Go ahead, baby. I got you.”
It’s a wave building to a glorious crest, and Adam’s brain finally feels at ease. He lifts his hips to meet up Mox’s thrusts, then flips them.
“Oh,” Mox says, landing on his back. “Alright, then.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Adam says with a grin. “Let me have this.”
Mox nods, suddenly serious. “Anything you want.”

Tbh I don't like the way the twink archetype is dealt with in gay circles. I feel like it gets dissed on in general in favor of more masc archetypes, under the guise of like fat-positivity or correcting the dominance of -the- gay archetype that allegedly everyone is attracted but without thinking about the effeminacy dynamics at play or the nuances of how thinness works for guys vs women.
Bc tbh I think "thin privilege" as it exists on the internet is a little more tailored for women than men. It addresses how women are pressured into being stick thin through a variety of social and cultural factors (bc even though many women don't get as much testosterone or w/e, they are pressured very far into how thin they can be), but this means it changes a little for men who don't have to be pushed as far. men very much have thin privilege, but in terms of the ideal masculine male archetype, He is not actually as thin a man he could be. Women are pressed to be so thin because at the end of the day, thinness is treated as a feminine trait. This makes thin privilege a bit different for men, who aren't pressured as much to be thin as much as not-fat. Not-fat isn't always good enough for women, but men are masculine, they build a little bit more muscle mass - so it's actually necessary to fill out a little to show this to be the ideal man. Pure thinness is a "lack" of testosterone - it's soy - so thin is a feminine trait whereas muscular is a masculine trait
Men are encouraged to be muscular, not so much as thin, in comparison to women. This does two things: first, the ideal male body type is not so much a thin guy but a lean-muscular guy or toned guy - where notably, fatness is still juxtaposed against muscle as well as thinness (a gym bro is just as ready as an obnoxious twink to call you fat). Second, guys who are thin after a certain point are seen as being feminine or effeminate (gross, frail, weak - waify). When a guy starts to be thin the way a woman culturally should be, they lose their hold on the male archetype and some of the privileges of hegemonic masculinity.
So like overall I find it really suspect twinks are singled out to rally against when there are plenty of other body types that rake in just as much thin privilege, many with the additional benefit of hegemonic masculinity. Like tbh idk if twinks are respected outside of being sex objects, like I almost want to say they experience hot-girl misogyny - yeah, "hot" with a capacity to be total bitches, but also not respected as persons outside of sex. The consequence of a twink not being attractive is she's some sort of a sissy fag who can't be taken seriously, but w/ muscular guys their physique still yields respect for them. But then there's the elephant in the room - twinks aren't the sole dominant body type! I honestly only know a few guys who are openly like "yeah, I prefer twinks." The rest are extremely into lifter physiques and like most every guy I know is working out to get as close to it as he can. Muscle is easily dominant ime. I don't think twinks struggle sexually, but that shouldn't be the sole rubric for whether an archetype is respected or not. Ppl single it out bc it's not thinness they care about, but rather rejecting effeminacy.
I saw this one guy say something like "I post my ass and get no attention (he got attention) but a twink will post his and get way more likes than me" and it's like ok maybe true I don't want to deny your experience but it's like where is this ire for muscle rats or twunks????? It's bc he identified with muscle and masculinity, and at the end of the day that's what's going on. Gay MEN are going to identify with MASCULINITY, and therefore they go to bat for the muscle against Team Twink. it's not rocket science, it's not malicious, and I often wonder if I'm like internally homophobic for being so critical of gay men and their attractions. They just really seem like the least liberated from sexuality individuals I have ever seen and have no awareness of larger social dynamics and fall for every hot muscular guy they see. But at the same time, it's the same for everyone - when someone identifies with a gay man, it's usually with normal guys or bears (somewhat justified bc they're often fat, but there's a lot of "but's" for another time); it's with the masc groups before the sissies. We live in a world of hegemonic masculinity, it's just what's respected and identified with in general!

griping about disability below the cut
i don’t complain about this much but lately it’s bugging me how fucking long it takes me vs everyone else i talk to to build up muscle tone because of my eds.
i’m much more sedentary at this point in my life and i was never a jock but i used to do like, coordinated swim, and ran regularly and did tae kwon do, and worked as a package handler loading commercial delivery trucks and hauling truck tires around, and my bodily tolerance for exercise never fucking changed no matter how long i kept at it. i almost couldn’t complete the mile in high school because i couldn’t breathe. i get winded so much faster than anyone, i get Exhausted, my whole body hurts from the feet up. and i inevitably spend the next few days in too much pain to take care of myself. and even if i try and push through it like all the pros with knees that work better than mine say it doesn’t change my body at all in terms of tone or endurance.
i would Love to not be little mr tiny arms that people just Have to say oh you’re so small to. i would love to broaden my shoulders especially and have actual tone to my body. i would love to have physical stamina so i can go on long hikes and days out with friends. but i physically can’t and it’s deeply frustrating.

So obviously in the fitness world there is a lot of fatphobia and people who are fitness trainers tend to have a lot of judgement for people who are bigger, absolutely not arguing that
However if you meet with a fitness trainer about building muscle and they keep pushing for a solid answer on “do you want to lose weight” fatphobia is not always the reason, there are various approaches to building muscle and whether you want to do it in a way that gains weight or loses it is going to impact both the approach to the work out and the suggested diet
I met with a personal trainer a few weeks ago and was in a similar “yeah if I lose weight that’s fine” approach but my trainer kept going back to losing or gaining as a goal and he explained it’s because he’s a former body builder and he used to have a work out and diet regiment around gaining weight because he was building large hard muscle and burning thousands of calories daily, whereas I was more looking for general toning and so something on the side of losing weight meant a focus on lean muscle over muscle mass. He showed me different diet plans and suggested calorie intakes for each goal and that if someone came in saying they wanted to build muscle but not lose weight they’d have a very specific work out and diet that might not actually be what they wanted because you would have to increase your intake to equalize what you’re burning
So if you’re talking to someone in a fitness training situation and they’re pushing you for a decision on that you can ask how the answer will impact the plan they’re putting together for you. If their answer is about you getting thin then that’s probably an issue vs if their answer is about trying to understand the outcome you want

Re: Naruto's physique and fitness routine

Time for weird fringe meta posts from Madd again. So broadly speaking, the anime and manga both simplify most examples of physique in the Naruto series, this makes sense as both productions were subject to crunch, and the physique of many characters was rarely a matter of detail.

But y'all know I'm a tad on the weird side so I'm going to talk about it.
Among animanga it's not entirely uncommon for a MC to be the "median" physically among the cast. Not too tall, not too short, not too big, not too thing. Unless possessing a specific quality is pertinent to their character, often through the narrative, such as Sena in Eyeshield 21 or Gon in hiatusXhiatus, it's rarely deviated from.
Accordingly, most drawings of Naruto's body are never showing anything exceptional as a young adult, although the anime (and manga towards the end) did portray him as a chubby kid he had a tendency to thin out before 13. If you want to know the source of this info it is found in Naruto 538.

This means that shinobi training, or at least the kind we know Naruto to get up to based on his training menus in both pieces of media, are very cardio intensive, as well he probably simply lost the weight. Though this weight loss is more than apparent, his physique on the anime side is a bit inconsistent and undetailed. Referring to the images towards the top of this post of the senjutsu training vs. what follows here:

Basically no toning lines defining or suggesting the muscles in his abdomen, which are definitely tones per above and here

Overall this is a good reference point. Throughout Shippuden, Naruto's build is definitely thin, but developed, so wiry would probably be the shorthand. It's evident that he can achieve significant physical feats both with and without chakra, consistent with a character who does a lot of calisthenics.
Being that Naruto is 5'6" tall during the Shippuden databooks (data on further physical growth uncertain after age 16/17ish but likely) it becomes apparent that this is probably a baseline build for most shinobi who are capable at taijutsu, but not strictly specialized, with an emphases on agility. Contrary to popular fandom perception, though Naruto's actual hitting style and close-up tactics tend to not be pretty, he is agile and mostly is mobile throughout a fight, particularly when employing the use of his shadow clones. A decent example can be found in ED 15.

Though he's adaptive through it depending on his opponent, the fact is that his style is pretty "hard" with a key emphasis on moving explosively and staying within striking range of his opponent. It's why her pursues his opponent even when dodging, and really only modulates his firing range against Tenten who is armed with a bo. We know it's a hard style, particularly when fighting Lee, as it's practically identical. One could probably call this "Strong Fist lite" as he's not employing any of the inherently exhausting techniques that require him to leap and flash step distances, but it's still tiring to stay that mobile even after four brief spars.
Seeing as it's not that different from what Konohamaru uses, and Naruto has the access, it's fair to assess that this is a pretty common style of fighting in Konoha, and thus a body that's optimal to use it is consistent among characters like Naruto and Lee who have these body types (and to a degree Konohamaru who does develop a similar build in adulthood).
Overall a body type that is compact and flexible is what we can extrapolate a detailed design of Naruto to be having. Particularly, while sleight, Naruto's shoulders are on the slightly broad side compared to other men who engage in this fashion of training, inheriting a slightly wideset nature from his Uzumaki family (pictured: his ancestor) and his mother, who was frequently compared to a tomato as a girl, and has more of a pear or rectangular shape to her body. This would probably also extend to his middle too, meaning he probably wouldn't develop an "inverted triangle" but rather more trapezoidal.

Overall I'm operating under the assumption that Naruto, beyond age 15, starts to develop some serious definition, though the mass doesn't start to become impressive until 17. Beyond that point, his mass never becomes offputtingly heavy, as maintenance of a body that is quick enough to conduct his style of taijutsu is necessary. Stylistically I would compare it to real-life De Niro or Lee, rather a point somewhere between them:

So overall, I think Naruto's actual regiment/menu as an adult includes:
-Taijutsu Sparring (when he can get it) -Weighted Free-Running Cardio around Konohagakure (at least an hour on an optimal day, but most days will go for roughly 20 km/12 miles per day) -Muscle Group-Targeted Weight Lifting (Based on day but has specific days for arms, chest, back, and legs) -10x10 calisthenics (pushups, pull-ups, sit-ups, squats) on a light day -15x10 calisthenics on a moderate day -20x10 calisthenics on a heavy day -10x100 punches on a heavy bag (still dressed like Kakashi)(Weight supplemented on leg and back days) -Meditation (15 minutes on a heavy day, 20 minutes on a moderate day, 30 minutes on a light day, 5/10/15 minutes practicing senjutsu meditation) -Practice Ninjutsu (30 minutes minimum, rounds up remaining time until training completion depending on the day)
Naruto's general training block in a day can range from 4-6 hours, though he will do 8 hours for an especially intense experience when he is a young adult and more or less doing only missions.

I will say one thing in regards to the infographics and that is breeds have different variations of weight. An overweight greyhound might not look anything like an overweight lab, for example. Breed does matter, but it doesn’t justify abuse either.
The post:
fit vs starving
fit definition: in good health, especially because of regular physical exercise.
starving definition: suffering or dying from hunger.
fit dog: a dog that is lean, well built with muscle and balance throughout the body
just because an animals ribs are showing doesn’t mean it’s starving, however there is a big difference.
each dog breed is different, for example greyhounds show a lot of rib, they are built that way and it doesn’t mean every single one of them is starving. Labrador retrievers however, usually wont show alot of rib, usually no rib at all, they can still be fit and lean, just build differences. some dog breeds wont show muscle at all/very little, that doesn’t mean they are fat, it’s just their build.
the “tuck” of the dog is an area right before the pelvic bones, this is a very common factor on how people tell if your dog is ”fit” or not. however, this doesn’t work for every breed (like i’ve stated before) as each once has a different build, coat type, muscle tone, and ideal weight.
starving is not ok!!!! starving includes all ribs showing, extremely defined pelvic bones, back ridge showing and sometimes tail bone. not all cases are *that* extreme but still need proper attention.
remember to kindly try to educate before stepping in with animal control/legal action.
