So I have theory about Luo Binghe’s fake jade pendant.

(Major spoilers if you haven’t finished the book btw)

I was just reading a fic and author pointed out something about Luo Binghe’s pendant and how it’s a metaphor for Shen Yuan.

Looking back at the book, there are a lot of parallels between Shen Yuan and the necklace.

The pendant is a counterfeit jade carving of the god Guanyin.

Shen Yuan is a counterfeit of Shen Qingqiu, a powerful Peak Lord who dresses in jade colored robes.

Guanyin is noted to be associated with compassion, and Shen Yuan changes the entire fate of the world of Proud Immortal Demon Way by being compassionate.

Luo Bingmei ends his story with his one fake jade pendant while the extras specifically note that Luo Bingge has several real jade necklaces in his possession. Those necklaces are even called out to be fine grade and best money can buy.

Obviously the real jades are a metaphor for Bingge’s harem of peerlessly beautiful women while the fake jade, which has infinitely more value to him, represents Shen Yuan, aka Luo Bingmei’s one and only true love.

However I think there’s more to it than that.

If you track the pendant throughout the book, you’ll notice that Luo Binghe is only ever in possession of the pendant when Shen Yuan isn’t there. In fact, he actually loses the pendant shortly after Shen Yuan transmigrates into Shen Qingqiu. For the rest of the book, the pendant is in Shen Yuan’s possession, only returning to Luo Binghe at the climax.

But here’s the thing that’s strange about that scene: for whatever reason the System could not load the pendant when SQQ tried to summon it. At no other point in the book has the System have a problem loading things in.

So why is it when it does load in, it’s right as Shen Yuan dies for the third time?

My theory is that Shen Yuan is the pendant itself.

Now obviously Shen Yuan comes back and Binghe still has the pendant, but in the last couple scenes of the book, Shen Yuan is always right by Luo Binghe’s side.

Now I know that Shen Yuan was an actual person before dying and becoming Shen Qingqiu, so therefore he isn’t the necklace given human form. So how can Shen Yuan and the pendant be one and the same?

Well let’s go back to the aforementioned climax scene where the System cannot physically summon the pendant until Shen Yuan dies.

Seeing as how the System is essentially an AI and/or a computer program, this kind of issue reminds me of how a computer cannot open a file if another of the exact same file is already running.

I think, that when inserting Shen Yuan into PIDW, the System needed a way to tie his soul into its program and Shen Yuan’s fate to the protagonist. The System needed a physical entity to tie him down so it linked his code/soul to the fake jade pendant. That’s why Luo Binghe loses the pendant so soon after Shen Yuan transmigrates and why the System couldn’t load it in until Shen Yuan’s soul left his body because they’re part of the same file.

This is also evidenced by how when Shen Yuan dies the second time, out of all of his items, only the Jade pendant is kept in his inventory when he wakes up in the Sun and Dew Mushroom body.

Not to mention that Shen Yuan and the pendant have the same effect on Luo Binghe! The pendant has the ability to essientially shock Luo Binghe out of a qi deviation, but is only a one time use. But during Luo Binghe’s first qi deviation, Shen Yuan is able to do the exact same thing but doing so kills him. The pendant reduces Luo Binghe’s anger, and Shen Yuan is the only person in the world Luo Binghe will ever be soft and submittable to.

Tl’dr; The System tied Shen Yuan’s soul to the fake Guanyin pendant.

SPOILERS FOR GOTG VOL. 3 - DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED IT YET!

I have a feeling that everyone (who calls themselves fans) that didn't get the meaning of the ending in GOTG Vol. 3 has never read a single comic of them or is only a fan of some characters/relationships. Many complaints I've seen are about the end and Gamora and Peter’s romance, which sounds kind of childish. You don't need to agree with me, but I’d like to elaborate on that.

James Gunn's writing is always about the detail of things and he is not afraid to do something “bad” if it is the best for the STORYTELLING. This is what most of these people don't get: the most important part of these movies is the story they are telling. The characters help the movie tell the story, it's their story after all — but there's no protagonist or greater good that puts them above the narrative.

(This is different from Gamora’s death in IW btw. It was not the only way they had to make the story flow; they just wanted to “humanize” Thanos and by that, they chose to kill her character. It was an action ADDED not CRUCIAL to the story.)

Vol. 3 is about found-family and growing up; finishing cycles. They will always be family, as we will always be part of their story (that’s why we understand Groot now). However, life chapters end just like in real books, and these Guardians as a TEAM “chapter” has ended for them and for us.

This is very common in the comics. Most times they are all separated, doing solo missions, until something goes wrong and they reunite again. They never stop being friends, why would it be different in the movie universe?

But the end suggests they are not family anymore.

Did we see the same film? No, it doesn't. We can see that in James’ subtle writing: the way they all still respect each other, their understanding of one another, and how they all would die for themselves if needed. That won't change just because they are not physically together — just like when you finish school you won't ignore your best friends, even if you create new relationships (which you will).

But Gamora is not part of the family anymore.

Well, if you see it this way, I can't change your mind. What I can say is that the story IMPLIES that she still is, in fact. And the number one clue is that she (in 2 days) understands Groot. Remember, we also understand him because the fans are now part of the Guardians family — so understanding him and being family are correlated.

Anyhow, I know this is not enough for most people, so hear me out: Gamora’s arc is about respect and healing. She starts the movie skeptical about working with the guardians — she just wants the money— when in reality, she acts like this because she is AFRAID and feels PRESSURED to be around her “old” family.

Imagine: you died but then another version of you comes back without knowing anything of your present life. People will expect you to act in a certain way that maybe you started to act after you met them; they will expect you to like certain things you don't know of; people will EXPECT you to attend to their needs. It is a lot to swallow at once. You are afraid because you don't know them, you don't think you deserve all this love and commitment out of nowhere. So you run away. You run away to find things on your own, to grow out of this pressure you feel and discover the whole universe of possibilities you have ahead.

That's what Gamora did. But then, the mission went south and now she is stuck with her “old” team. The film shows us her character exploring the ship, listening to music... trying to understand them. At one point she even says to Rocket “You must be a very loyal pet for them to do all this for you” (or something similar). This is her way of putting into words how she visualizes the current scenario she was put in. Slowly she recognizes that they are a family, and by the way they act she finally gets how and why she also must have loved them in the past.

She goes from “I don't give a fuck”, not open to them, afraid and pressured to “I bet we were fun”, understanding and respecting them, even fighting for their family to survive.

(If she still didn't give a fuck she wouldn't have fought for them and with them when she could have just run away again.)

But she has already created new relations, so she goes back to those for now. It is what she is familiar with in this timeline. Does that mean she will never contact the guardians ever again? NO. Remember: James’s writing is about DETAILS, nuance. She is open to them again, and the final part of the movie shows this to us, especially her last interaction with Groot, Peter, and Nebula being friendly.

Oh, but Peter and Gamora will never be a couple again, their romance ended when she went back to the Ravengers.

… Again, if you see it this way I can’t change your mind. What I can confirm is that she doesn’t close herself to the team — especially to Peter — in the end.

When she says “I bet we were fun” it's the first time she acknowledges their former relationship without distancing herself from it. She could've said “I bet you were fun” or “I bet she was fun”, but instead she prefers to include herself with “we”. She pauses before letting go of Nowhere, stopping before entering her ship — what moves her forward is Nebula, who can see her sister’s changed attitude but still encourages her to take a step forward and go explore the galaxy, because she knows Gamora is not mature and ready yet for those feelings; just like she wasn't ready to be openly sentimental when Gamora joined the Guardians back in 2014.

And Peter is also not ready. Just like Gamora needs to find herself again and discover who she is, Peter needs too. He is lost without her after IW, we can see it during Holiday Special and in the beginning of Vol. 3 when he passes out because of alcohol abuse. Both don't know who they are in this new reality — and they will only find out with time. Time heals and reveals.

In the end, Peter doesn't have the same thought as in the begging: he doesn't want her to be who he once knew, he wants her as she is, this new version whom he still loves so much and wants to know more of. Although he wishes she could stay, he knows that she has her own time and while she learns about herself he will go do the same.

So yes, they’re not explicitly together as a couple in the final scene — neither they kiss nor make out, whatever you believe a relationship is made of — but they’ve changed and are open to one another. The last scene does not appear to me as an “I’ll never see you again”, but as a “Goodbye, see you soon”.

(Aside from all the small bits we had through the movie of a developing relationship between them; my favorite one being when Peter activates the auto-destruction code and Gamora smiles at him.)

Besides, you can't force anyone to fall in love in 48 hours!!

Yes, I also have some minor complaints about the story, but I can recognize that — with all the turbulence the characters and the production faced in the last few years — it was a satisfying end with a limited amount of time to a badass trilogy. The end is definitive but also open to future possibilities for all our favorite characters in their universe — some we might never see and it will only be to our imagination.

The most RANDOM Eddie Munson idea I’ve ever had would be Eddie as a hit man or just a serial killer🙈 now before you freak out this is how I imagine it in my head:

Eddie is a well trained killing machine but you only know him as Eddie Munson your boyfriend who works with his uncle Wayne down at the plant in Hawkins. On the nights Eddie is working late or has to do an overnight he can always expect you to call him around nine or ten when you’re getting ready for bed, for as long as you can remember he’s never missed one of your calls.

“Hey baby,” Eddie puts the phone to his ear as he shoves a sock in the mouth of the man who he’s visiting tonight for his side job. “How was your day?” The man sitting in front of Eddie goes wide eyed as Eddie pulls out some tape from his back pocket and motions for the man to place his hands in his lap.

“Boring I didn’t get to do much because of the rain.” Eddie just nods as he hears you getting comfortable in the bed. “I miss you.” Your voice is soft and sweet making him smile as he begins wrapping tape around the man’s wrists.

“I miss you too sweetheart.” The man begins to make a few noises, “what are you reading tonight?” He asks as he quickly mutes the phone so you can’t hear him but he can still hear you just fine. “I’ll get to you in a moment so if you don’t mind shutting the hell up? My girlfriend is telling me what books she’s reading before bed.” The man stops moving and goes back to being silent making Eddie smile and unmute the phone.

“I’m starting the Two Towers tonight since I finished the Fellowship last night.” Eddie nods his head as he turns his back on the man sitting on the couch who is now all taped up making it impossible for him to move.

“Oh you’ll like that one.” You let out a small yawn making Eddie look at his watch and just like clockwork it’s ten on the dot and of course you’re getting sleepy you never stay up past eleven even on the weekends and that’s something Eddie’s always loved about you, you’re extremely consistent. “Someone’s sleepy.” Eddie teases as he puts the roll of tape back in his backpack that’s sitting on the kitchen island.

“Don’t make fun of me you know I can’t help it.” Eddie just laughs as you snuggle down deeper into the bed. “I love you.” Eddie smiles as he grabs a knife from his bag and gently places it on the island.

“I love you too baby.” And with that you both hang up and Eddie slides his phone into his back pocket and grabs the knife before heading back into the living room. “Now where were we?” Eddie asks the man who is now trying his best to wiggle off the couch making Eddie laugh. “Oh come on…this will hurt less if you stop moving.”

synopsis: during a particularly hot summer, you decide to go to aziraphale’s bookshop to keep cool, + bonus head cannons at the end, established relationship

warnings: assumed to have straight-wavy hair in the story, sorry to the 3A+ girlies, the head cannons have more variety though. also the head cannons may be mildly suggestive because having a bath together is mentioned

It was a relatively normal day in July. Well, not for the people in London. The year was 2022, on a Tuesday if you must know. It’s one of the hottest days on record, raising above 40 degrees celsius. This may not be that terrible for the rest of the world, but for the people of Britain, hell might as well have opened up. Because it pretty much did, some demon surely trigged this heatwave. But Crowley wasn’t quite sure who.

Speaking of the demon, he finds himself in Aziraphale’s book shop this particular afternoon; completely unbothered by what’s going on around him. The angel didn’t really seem to care either. Both wearing their usual attire reading whatever book they decided to pick up that day. You however, couldn’t stand the heat. You knew that Aziraphale blessed the bookshop to be the perfect temperature for whoever went in it, so you decide to brave the walk there after wasting away in your non-air-conditioned apartment. You cursed whoever decided to not make them common in the UK; not knowing that it was Crowley’s idea.

After closing the door behind you, you felt an verwhelming relief. The room immediately cooled your body as you dramatically walked to the boyfriend’s and collapsed onto the settee next to Aziraphale’s desk. You didn’t say anything to either of them and just laid there, face implanted in the soft red pillow.

“You alright darling?” The demon broke the silence. You only murmured incoherently against the pillow, probably saying something along the lines of “what does it look like”, before rolling over to the side to look at Aziraphale sitting on his desk. “You hair looks… uh, lovely!” Aziraphale smiles rather awkwardly. It in fact, didn’t look lovely. You haphazardly threw it in a bobble on your way there to prevent it from acting like a blanket. “Thanks, I decided I’d rather not die of heatstroke.” You replied sarcastically, sitting up.

Crowley got up and took the seat next to you, “May I?” He asked. You nod and he miracles the hair tie onto his wrist, making your long hair fall down your back. You still haven’t gotten used to them doing things like this. He brushes his fingers through it before plaiting it, placing a kiss on the top of your head after finishing. “It looks stunning but that’s not going to help much Crowley,” Aziraphale stands up and leans over Crowley, wrapping your hair in a bun and securing it with some clips. “All better!”

Crowley gives Aziraphale a dirty look, he notices this and holds the demons face giving him a kiss on the forehead. “Come now, there’s no need to be like that dear. There will be plenty more opportunities for you to do up her hair I’m sure.” He adds on, Crowley just scoffs and wraps his arms around you, leaning his head on your shoulder as he watched the angel sit back down at his desk.

He turns his attention back into you. “How would you like to braid my hair this time princess?” As you turn back to look at him, his hair is already below his shoulders. You smile, happily taking his hair in your hands.

- They both absolutely adore your hair. They will take any chance they get to hold it, style it and/or brush it

- Aziraphale likes to lay you on his chest and just mess with it between his fingers

- Something you and Crowley have done together quite a few times now is have a bath together, he likes to help you wash your hair

- A few times one of them have made it purposefully windy when they’re out so they have an excuse to fuzz over and “fix” your hair

- Crowley adores humans and so he also love’s different cultures and customs, if you have kinky hair he likes to try out loads of different kind of braid styles on it, every so often on your days often he’ll come to your apartment with extensions, his favourite are micro braids, despite how long it takes

- Same goes if you have straight to wavy hair, he likes to try out different traditional European braid styles, his personal favourite is the Dutch braid

- On the other hand, Aziraphale likes to buy accessories for your hair, headbands, beads, clips, bows. If he’s out and sees something he likes he’ll always gift them to you, Crowley makes sure to incorporate them when he’s doing your hair

- A couple of times at your request they’ve miracled your hair to be different lengths/styles temporary for you to see what they’re like, it’s great being able to see before making any sudden decisions

- Crowley have also miracled your hair to look wacky at night so you have a little fright in the mornings, he never keeps it like it for long though

- Both of them are always carrying around at least one bobble with them at all times for you

I’ve been teaching myself to crochet and here’s some of what I’ve managed to make so far

Little Trubbish! I finished her a little while ago, and just haven’t had the chance to post her. She’s my second ever amigurumi, and my first that had multiple pieces that needed to be made and sewn together. It was a bit tricky, but I’m really happy with how she turned out. Her name is Natrasha btw 🌸 (pattern by sunnyGstitches on Etsy)

My next project is still a wip, but I’m really happy with how it’s turning out, so I wanted to share anyways. It’s a Halloween Pichu ^^ (pattern is from Pokemon Crochet - Sabrina Somers)

I’ve had some fairly significant family stuff happen recently, so my amazing friend gifted me the Pokémon crochet book to cheer me up. I wanted to try one of the patterns to distract myself, problem is I didn’t have the right coloured yarn/hook size. I decided to just make do with what I had and adapt the pattern, so I came up with a pumpkin themed Pichu. It’s almost Halloween, so I think it fits lol. Eventually she’ll have a Jack-o-lantern face on her belly, and I’m thinking of giving her little fangs.

Here’s what the back is looking like. I’ve finished making all the pieces,and pinned them in place, I just have to sew her together, then make the eyes/details out of felt and she’ll be done. She’s a lot bigger than she should be because I used a 4mm hook when the pattern called for a 2.5mm hook, but I’m really happy with how its turning out so far 🎃

It’s been really fun to learn something new. My ultimate goal is to one day get good enough to make a Melli plush 💜

hello!! I love your tlt posts and metas and everything 😍 these books are just so packed with detail that I feel like I’m always learning more and more it’s so exciting.

I just finished NTN and have a question I haven’t been able to find answers to on the internet! I picked up on the fact that Nona is mishearing the names of the kids in the gang, both because when she says “honesty” and pyrrha or cam (I forget who) asks is that really his name she’s like that’s what I heard anyways or something like that, and then also when she says “born in the morning” to someone else they’re like you mean born in the morning and she’s like that’s what I said, implying she’s not saying it right but is still hearing it the same way even when someone corrects her. I was guessing that “honesty” is “augustine” and “born in the morning” is “mercymorn” but couldn’t figure out kevin or beautiful ruby or anything else, and could totally be getting that wrong anyways (I know there are so many references and details I’m not catching). But wondering if you’ve come across any explanations about who the kids are in reference to or any kind of significance about their names or anything like that!

Hi!! thanks so much!!! SO, general consensus is that you're right, Nona is not hearing the name but the meaning, i.e. would theoretically hear "John" as "God is gracious". to my knowledge there is no connection between the new Rho kids and Lyctoral characters.

One interesting thing is she is only hearing SOME people's names as meanings. This could be for many reasons, possibly just to make it less confusing to the reader, but for example she knows Camilla as Camilla, and not "helper to the priest" (which, btw, is such an on point name for her character), and the teacher Jolie as Jolie and not like, "one who was agreeable". And we know from the scene in the tomb that she hears John's name as John, and *not* actually as "God is gracious". So that is still kinda up in the air.

There are a couple of good posts out there discussing this! I really like this post by @onefleshonepod, linked here, that has a nice breakdown of possibilities! There are also some discussions on reddit, here and here. None of these have been canon confirmed (though perhaps we will get more info in the incoming NtN paperback glossary!), but good thoughts to be had all around.

For Hot Sauce, I think she is just named after the food! So it doesn't have any deeper meaning, besides the fact that it is a thing she loves and wants to be named after.

- nightwood by djuna barnes - if you like the more unsettling aspects of picnic at hanging rock, something lynchian and modernist, this is a dark and heavily abstract lesbian novel which i really love

- our wives under the sea - a really poignant and lovely soft sci-fi depiction of a wlw relationship, themes of grief, identity, loss etc. some compare it to annihilation though expect much less science fiction

- her body and other parties by carmen maria machado - a lovely (probably my favourite!) collection of short stories which often are wlw-centric or have a vibe. stunning prose in general

- hera lindsay bird by hera lindsay bird - wlw poetry, very fun and contemporary, what i call self-aware poetry

- mary oliver’s poetry!!!

- for biographies, anything about tove jansson….

- anything by virginia woolf will fit the not explicitly stated vibe feeling - mrs dalloway has a really wistful lesbian undercurrent, orlando is a love letter to vita sackville-west. etc. etc.

movies:

- persona (ingmar bergman) - thee movie. it’s Not explicitly stated, it’s feverish and desolate, but it’s both intensely homoerotic and a searing exploration of identity, existential dread etc.

- mulholland drive (david lynch) - again, unsettling vibes. not even gonna elaborate on it - it’s a david lynch - but it’s a must-see

- passing (rebecca hall) - a moody, poignant and beautiful adaptation of nella larsen’s novella (which is on my to-read list) about a relationship between two women

- the favourite (yorgos lanthimos) - recently rewatched with a friend, no notes. a bizarre, obsessive, thrilling story. rachel weisz is to die for in it

- kajillionaire (miranda july) - a tender and strange (affectionate) depiction of a bond between two women in unexpected circumstances

- thoroughbreds (cory finley) - what if murder was homoerotic, what if murder was a metaphor. in a way this is about every codependent friendship between girls that has ever veered towards obsession

- vita & virginia (chanya button) - a biopic abt virginia woolf and vita sackville-west specifically, people have very mixed feelings on it but i personally love it to bits.

tv shows:

- black sails - anne and max’s storyline in black sails is the most visceral and lovely wlw story i’ve seen in tv or film… there are specific tws i would heed for max’s arc in the first season which i’d be happy to elaborate on, but their story is beautiful

- first season of killing eve is still unmatched 😔 second is still quite nice, if not as good. third is hm. the ending scene has whimsy to it. never watch the fourth.

things my gf loves that i still haven’t read/seen:

- portrait of a lady on fire - i just know it will Get to me so i’m waiting for the right mood to watch it

- this is how you lose the time war by amal el-mohtar & max gladstone - same reasoning!

things i’ve started but haven’t had a chance to finish yet:

- little blue encyclopaedia (for vivian) by hazel jane plante - a beautiful (but sad, and also about grieving, hence it’s taking me a while) trans wlw story. quaint and quiet and wistful.

ok. moving out update. today i:

talked to my beloved ex supervisor / mentor (<- SCARY!!!!!) to ask her about her experiences living by herself esp as a short woman (which is not a big deal except for how it is + how my parents think it is) and get her advice abt how to navigate that experience psychologically and practically. i asked her if we could talk abt this very impulsively on thursday after not having the courage to do it for almost a year btw (<- BRAVE!!!!!!!!) and i was still too scared / embarrassed to ask her some stuff abt safety / self defense lol but it mostly went really well!

started making a budget and determined that a) i may be getting overpaid somehow (😳) b) i may be getting double or even triple charged for my health and life insurance (😒) so now i need to call hr on monday and figure all of that out. and also c) i suck at math but we knew that. but i forced myself to figure out what i did wrong so that’s an achievement

made my first ever student loan payment 😀🔫

booked a tour of one apartment and attempted to book a tour of another (the same place i was looking at in may) but their website was glitching out and then they didn’t answer when i called to schedule it over the phone which. hm. 😒 but yeah the tour(s) will happen mid week next week and im going to ride the shuttle to the apartment complex(es) and back to campus to see what that’s like too!

posted on local subr*ddit asking for recommendations for those two apartments + other places in the area. haven’t gotten anything back bc i just made the post but 😎👍

read a bunch of old journal entries from 2021 to remind myself of what it was like to move onto campus and how i pushed through my family’s hurt and disapproval to live the way i needed to. haven’t finished reading it all yet but i will tomorrow (while also doing my stupid homework 🙄)

okay but think about small village in the woods au where Jungkook is like the town’s golden child. he’s nice, good looking, helpful… the list literally goes on

it’s no surprise that you fell for him early on, since you were a child. he was just so sweet and his smile was gorgeous and his voice so melodic. everyone had a crush on him but you definitely took it too far. it wasn’t your fault that he was so unapproachable that you had to admire from afar.

sure, he was always nice when he’d see you somewhere in the small farmer’s market filling your woven baskets with goods. he always said hello when the two of you would find yourselves walking in the same direction

he’s only unapproachable because of her. Her who has been Jungkook’s closest friend for a long time, always trailing after him, always latching on his arm. probably the one started the rumors that they would wed.

still, you couldn’t stop your little crush on him. you just had to keep your distance considering she had no problem confronting anybody who got too close to him. like today; you’ve managed to keep good distance from him. you haven’t seen her but maybe that’s bc you’ve been hiding in a tree

your spying tactics have def escalated lately, more bizarre since you’ve been avoiding seeing him in the market. and the look today was amazing. a shirtless Jungkook cutting lumber in what he could call his backyard. in reality it was just a neck in the woods only a few yards away from his cabin and yours too

you had only been watching him for thirty minutes but you swear you’re not a creep. you were doing a little sketch and it just so happened to be about him. you had just finished adding shade to his backside when you heard her voice.

“Jungkookie! Why don’t you take a break? I’ve just picked some fresh strawberries.”

well that just ruined your day. if she catches you up here she’ll just tease you about something and embarras you

crazy enough, this was not the first time you’ve hidden somewhere to watch him. sometimes you’d be around a corner in the market watching him take lumber to some of the elders who couldn’t cut any. sometimes he’d offer bread to a stray child or show them magic tricks like a coin behind the ear

unlike you he was praised for everything he did. you were merely called a witch even tho you didn’t think you were. nobody trusted you or wanted to be around you so you didn’t have friends. the only nice one had been Jungkook

handsome and kind and unavailable jungkook who knocked on your cabin one stormy night much to your dismay. he was drenched in rain clutching something under his wool

“Y/n, sorry to disturb you I know it’s late but I need your help”

you hadn’t even known what to say, he had never come to you door, you had no clue he knew you lived next to him

you didn’t say anything caught completely off guard. even in rain he looked good, still kind and pretty smile. you moved to the side letting him in and suddenly all the hanging herbs and spices in jars seemed ridiculous. the black cat sleeping on a book and the cauldron tucked away in the fireplace seemed bizarre.

he was nervous too mostly bc you were so quiet. “so… i heard you can help with injuries? i accidentally hurt myself earlier and—“ he lifted his shirt, a gash down his torso not deep but long

you bit your lip, well this was an excuse to stare. but still. you had a feeling any second she would barge in here and tell him you’re a freak. you left him for a second going to the kitchen opening up a jar. his nose scrunched at the smell but he tried not to say anything

“w-whats that?” he couldn’t help but ask when you crushed some dried berries and mixed it with what was in the jar. it was a dark green color, “swamp mud, helps with scratches”

“s-swamp mud?” he asked before wincing arrival the first cold touch of the paste. his muscles tensed like the skin around the cut was burning but you told him to leave it on for a few more minutes

he’s always known you. a sweet and shy person who kept to themselves and often times he found himself wanting to greet you. just let you know that you could always talk to him but you never do.

of course she always tries to tell him you’re a witch and a freak but he doesn’t believe it to bad. if she knew he came tonight she’d be missed but it was his decision. he knew if anyone could do something about the gash it was you, a healer

he watched you back away from him, tucking yourself into the window seat as the rain hit the windows harshly. the black cat coming by to curl around his foot while he felt embarrassing bare in front of you. you just seemed so innocent and gentle, he felt bad for the way the town treated you.

“what’s her name?” he asked about the cat. “salem and they go by he”

he smiled a little, the cat goes by he. before he could ask another question you were leaving to the kitchen again. a bucket of water and a rag in your hands as you pulled a stool in front of him

at this proximity he was able to get a good look at you. he hadn’t known minutes passed instead of seconds. he sees you sometimes in the market but you always keep your distance. usually he’s the one who has to stop with a hello and even then you don’t always talk. whenever he’s with her you don’t even look his way but in truth nobody does. why? he’s not sure but every now and then when he catches you in the woods smiling down at a bunny or bird it makes him smile. she always tries to tell him you’re a freak and stalker but he doesn’t believe that.

“does it hurt?” “huh?” “the cut” “oh, uh a little?”

actually not at all but he didn’t think when he responded. “alright, we’ll give it another minute or two.” he nodded wondering why he said it still hurt but he pushed the thought aside. instead he thought about your soft scent of rosemary and elderberry. up close he can tell you’re very pretty. well, he always thought you were pretty but right now it was different. he used to think you were cute with the shy smiles and soft voice but up close he can tell you’re just naturally pretty

she always tell him you’re obsessed with him. that you’re a freak who watches him in the woods. you’re just a loser with no friends. but he never listens, he has seen you in the woods before sketching in some book but he thinks it’s sweet. anytime he’d be cutting lumber and he’d catch you up on some tree branch sketching away he wouldn’t say anything. he didn’t want to scare you away but he always wondered what it is you sketched

after some time you didn’t ask him again if it hurt but if you would have he would’ve lied again. instead you dipped the rag into the warm water and began to wash away the dried paste. he prepared himself for the pain but there was none so instead he watched you

“there.” “what?” “it’s healed.” “oh” why was he disappointed? you left him to go back to the kitchen and as he looked down the gash had turned into scarred tissue but healed. you came back out with a little jar of the paste, “put this on before bed and soon the scar will fade.”

you sent him on his way before he could even say thank you and he was back in the rain with a jar in hand

the next time you saw him it was in the woods again. you were down by the swamp collecting more mud, unaware of Jungkook passing by with her. he stopped the second he found you crouched down on the floor, the end of your dressed costed in dirt and grass. she pulled in his arm, “let’s go to the market for some bread. hurry before y/n sees u—“

“y/n!” he left her there cutting through the meadow to the thicker marsh side. you looked up seeing him there before looking behind him where she stood glaring. immediately you got up turning to leave before she confronted you about Jungkook talking to you

he visibly frowned watching you walk away. “Jungkook just leave the witch alone. she’s a fre—Jungkook!” and he’s running after you calling your name but he couldn’t find you anymore. hw turned to her, “don’t talk about y/n like that anymore. she is sweet and kind”

you stayed in your cabin for a couple days. just enough time for Jungkook and her to stop looking for you. the other day by the swamp he probably told her how you helped him and was ready to chew you out for it. so you avoided them both. you haven’t even gone to watch him cut lumber but it was for the better. your obsession with him would turn into something more and you can’t dream about something you can’t have.

Jungkook knew your shy nature though and even if he didn’t see you out of the cabin in a couple days he had a feeling it had something to do with his friend. you must’ve heard her call you mean names and it scared you of. he didn’t want to scare you off. he wanted the opposite actually. so what did he do? he went out into the meadow where he could pick some herbs out for you. he had a feeling you weren’t into flowers or sweets so maybe he could try and coax you with things he knows you’ll like

so what happened? little jars of spices, rosemary, thyme, lavender, even that healing swamp mud, all packed nicely for you. set in front of your door everyday with the little notes here and there

it was ironic actually. you used to watch and obsess over him and now he’s the one watching and obsessing over you. making sure to be as loud and obvious as possible when he passed by your cabin or in the market he’d follow after you. he’d cut more lumber than necessary as an excuse to drop it off at people’s doorsteps, making sure to knock when he got to yours. the kind little witch who used to obsess over him was now his own growing obsession.

Recently read compass rose by le guin, it has been sitting on my shelf for years but i finally got the motivation to read it after r recommended a story from it to s in atwmd (beautiful beautiful story btw i still reread it from time to time). Anyways first story i read from le guin was the ones who walk away from omelas and the stories from the compass rose was also very compelling (i especially liked the eye altering and sq) and i want to read more from her work but don't know where to start since she has such a large collection. Do you have any recommendations from her?

wait that’s crazy i haven’t actually read the compass rose myself only the wife’s story!! put it in atwmd bc the publication dates worked & it had that story so cool that u owned a copy…honestly have not read le guin extensively other than some short stories (omelas, wife’s story) & a wizard of earthsea which i did like! but did not end up continuing the series bc i got distracted by other things…also started reading the left hand of darkness & got distracted w other things i do wanna return 2 that one day tho. & our minds must be linked bc i JUST started a different le guin anthology that i picked up at a used book store a few days ago!! ‘buffalo gals and other animal presences’ it has the wife’s story as well which is why i picked it up! so while i don’t have many recs i will have 2 let u know how this anthology is once i finish it…

‼️these violent delights/our violent ends/foul lady fortune/last violent call spoilers‼️

I want to share some thoughts with yall after i just finished last violent call. Waiting for foul heart huntsman later in September is torture so i thought to talk now

There’s so many thoughts where do i start uhmm. I’m glad my friend introduced me to this series (hi parker!!! Immensely grateful btw). I haven’t been so captivated by a book/series in awhile so i truly loved this.

I think the small part of my denial part suspected that Roma and Juliette was alive since it was explicitly mentioned in the OVE epilogue that their bodies weren’t found after the explosion. I’m glad we get an addition of the novella’s in the series that serves as an epilogue for Roma and Juliette’s arc. It served their love story justice. Ofc if we knew all along that they’re alive se cld come up with our own conclusion that they’re living their peaceful lives far far away but with the novella’s we cld actually see how they live their domestic life.

And oml i’m so glad Chloe Gong added Benedikt and Marshall’s love story a novella epilogue. Like to finally get a conclusion that all that mutual pining was worth it is very *chef’s kiss*. I wish we get to see their everyday domestic life in their home however. But a murder mystery epilogue is so fun and fitting for them so i’m not complaining all that much. But wldn’t it be cool to see what they’re like at home like how we see Roma and Juliette? Like yeah they were determined to help a couple in need, but we get a glimpse on what they’re like at home. Again, i understand that even if it is an epilogue it can’t be all fluffy since it takes form of a novella and technically speaking it needs to add on to the plot since it’s not yet the actual epilogue of the series.

Ahhh but i loved all the details slipped in the novella’s. Marshall being the main cook is spot on and him hving monthly gossip sesh with Juliette is so fitting i love them. Roma being absolutely in love with his wife and spoiling her with his love till the ends of the earth? Perfection. Juliette still wanting to cause problems despite also being in the lovey-dovey state much like Roma? So in character and very girlboss of her i love it sm.

It took me by surprise ngl when it was mentioned that Benedikt’s a children’s art teacher. But honestly it’s quite fitting. I can see him being very good with kids of different ages and also channeling his passiom for the arts to those kids by teaching them. Imagine one of his students paints a stick figure portrait of Benedikt and the kid showing it to him and Benedikt just has to keep it in himself from tearing up. It looked like a stick man made with chicken scratches and his name spelt wrong, but to Benedikt it was EVERYTHING. Also not to mention Marshall so definitely falling in love with Benedikt all over again any time he sees him playing and having fun with the kids like hsnsganshmsgwnw. Roma and Juliette’s future children will definitely be spoiled by their dear uncles and omg the possibilities are endless. My fav possibility so far is the thought of Marshall and Benedikt teaching their future kids how to ultimately bully Roma and it being the funniest sight ever it sends Juliette rolling on the floor.

But now it brings me to the events of FLF and the potential foul heart huntsman events. Wow did the Orion being controlled by his mother plottwist at the end took me out and basically shattered my heart. Like????? Him and Rosalind had smth going on and now mommy issues came knocking on their front door to ruin it all. Now that i think abt it the mind control plottwist sounds like an allegory for toxic and controlling boy mom relationships uhmm… was what chloe gong was going for?? I mean it was good and i think it truly did the trick ngl. Like it was a whole damn whiplash. Both the concept being a plottwist and a (potential but idk if it was meant to be that so take this one with a grain of salt) allegory.

Also what I truly loved abt FLF how the whole plot is basically abt Rosalind’s guilt. For so long she felt guilty for nearly destroying Shanghai and became an agent just so she can repent from her wrongdoings. And isn’t that nearly identical to Orion?? I mean, he became an agent to make himself useful and to prove a point to his father so it’s not necessarily centered around guilt anyways but like… same vibes? You know? Look it just make sense to me. But anyways and then they found each other and like unravel each other slowly and like gsngsmshsms. So cute. Amazing. Orion Hong is very malewife energy especially when he was losing his shit swinging left and right in that last fight scene in the warehouse.

Also that does leave me to wonder how wld FHH wld play out. I was so hoping for Orion and Oliver to reconcile at the end of FLF ngl bcs yeah i love found family but i LOVE sibling bond tropes. Like for so long I adored Rosalind and Celia’s relationship throughout TVL and OVE. It’s still apparent in FLF so i’m glad and hopefully it’ll keep going till FHH. But pls give me fluffy Hong siblings. And like all of them. All three. Imagiem how funny it’d be when Pheobe and Silas inevitably get together (there’s no denying they’re going to get together eventually. If they aren’t then Chloe Gong has been playing with our feelings this whole time and led us all on) and the big brother instinct in Oliver and Orion will jump at the thought of Pheobe with a boyfriend. Ok well I’m sure it has happened before since FLF have mentioned that Orion has stolen Pheobe’s ex bf to like ‘test his loyalty’ or whatever but to i don’t think he’s ever been into Silas like that. Like ever. Even if he did he already definitely so whipped for Rosalind so he’s not even gonna want to at that point. But I’m sorry the thought of Oliver and Orion cornering Silas and giving him the shovel talk?? That’s amazing. I mean yeah Orion wld do it moreso bcs he finds it funny and only feeling the need to make sure Silas stays in line when it comes to his sister just a tiny bit. But Oliver? He’d be so serious with his threat.

But the main thing we’re all awaiting in FHH is definitely the story of Rosalind getting Orion back. But seeing that he’s basically a superhuman, Rosalind wld so definitely round up the whole gang. But does that gang also include Roma Juliette Benedikt and Marshall?? I’m hoping it wld. And like not just a quick appearance, which is smth i’m sure we’ve all suspected with what’s been told in the novella’s. But i truly wanna see thrm getting involved in the brutal fights and shit. Also i hv to see the Roma and Alisa reunion. I need to hv it bcs my life depends on it!!!!!

I cannot wait for FHH to come out and reveal more tiny details of all these character’s and reveal the last story to truly tie this series up to an end. I’m gonna get super fucking emotional ngl but i’m also excited nonetheless.

Ngl i still hv many thoughts abt this series but I’m not gonna share it now bcs my brain is spinning like 63826 miles an hour just by thinking abt it so this is as much as I can put it into words. Wld love to hear anyone else’s thoughts on this. My ask box is always open:)

btw the only problem I have about this movie is the way the story was told

I’ve actually watched it twice, the second time was right after I finished reading the book, I was so excited to see it again because I felt like I would actually understand the plot this time and also actually be able to keep track of the characters… anyways it wasn’t what I remembered it to be.

I think there was nothing really wrong with the movie itself, if fact the care put into what feels like every single detail shines through (the flowers!!), it’s just that if you haven’t read the book it’s a little confusing, but if you have, it’s just underwhelming.

It feels like if I recorded my best friend and I talking about something I recently experienced, but then I cut out the parts I thought were boring and ended up deleting way too much and there wasn’t enough fun left in the video. ifykwim???

However, even though Clueless goes off script at many points, it still feels like every string was tied up by the end of the movie. For example, miss Taylor just not existing in the Clueless world doesn’t really affect the plot, but Emma. mentions it then pretty much just forgets about her, so it feels a little unfinished.

At the same time, Clueless wasn’t meant to be a movie adaptation of the book, it was (at least to me) meant to tell a story based on the book, the expectations aren’t on the same level. If they really wanted to do justice to Jane Austen’s book (although the movie is not total crap, I’m realizing how bad it sounds on rereading), a mini-series would’ve been a better option.

I do realize though that the plot is slow and it may be hard to retain an audience’s attention for that long, or that the breaking it up into episodes could ruin the flow, but it’s just too hard to fit the whole book into a couple hours.

ALSO!!! That first line really deserves more attention, it’s a little complicated I’ll admit but make it work guys please

Nov 5, 2023: This is from Jan 11, 2021 btw!! Old old old headcanons but I still like them

Raph

(Head’s up- almost everything I headcannon on the big guy is me projecting)

-Genderfluid/Genderqueer (thanks sascha) Panromantic Demiromantic Asexual

-He’s the least educated on LBGTQIA+ terms (that honor goes to Leo)

-This kinda caused him to go through a sexuality crisis and for a while he thought he was aroace like Donnie until Leo helped him out with understanding the aro spectrum

-He has social anxiety. It’s a moderate case- little on the extreme side. (Let me project)

-He has separation anxiety (extreme case)

(-It’s kind of implied in S1:21A, but) I imagine Raph lost Splinter and his brothers in NY when he was little, and since then he’s had nightmares and fears of losing his family or waking up one day and they aren’t there. (Time to write some angst :D)

-Very introverted (unless he’s in a fight, then he pretty talkative because he’s more confident)

-Dyslexic (Donnie’s the one that helps him if he can’t understand a word)

- They all are nearly fluent in Japanese and English. This is mainly because Splinter wanted them to learn a few languages and even encourages them to learn more.

Lucifer

You have to catch him at his least busy, or else he won't do it at all. You don't even have to show him how to do it, since he's the one who would do Mammon's hair all the time growing up. Stay away if you're tenderheaded! He will show no mercy to get your hair done in time. He tries not to be rough but his hands have been too used to dealing with Mammon's hair so as an instinct he treats your hair the same way.

His go to hairstyle for you: Would rather to give you Wash N' Gos since they're easy to do and he loves seeing your hair texture.

Mammon

"Huh? You want me to do it? I can't even do my hair sometimes!" only knows how to do wash & go's, maybe a fade on some days. He usually lets his makeup artists or Asmo do his hair for special occasions.

His go-to hairstyle for you: Twist outs (He loves opening your hair out for you and running his hands through your hair)

Levi

Was really concerned about messing up your hair , but after showing him videos about your hair & him practicing on his wigs for a bit, he gets really interested. "Y-you're saying I can do whatever with your h-hair?! U-Uh...This is huge amount of responsibility...!"

His go-to hairstyle for you: He loves adding accessories, especially colorful beads in your hair (especially beads that are his color - teal). Butterfly locs he loves the most!! He would also make your hair look like his favorite anime characters most likely.

Satan

Had done some research and read some books on it before, but haven't really gotten to actually try it out. Plus, he's seen how tenderheaded Mammon is. He'll gladly do your hair for you. He's really gentle and wouldn't be as rough like Lucifer is. He makes sure you have a lot of breaks, lets you stretch, gives you sips of your drink, have your favorite show or favorite song playing. He wants to make sure you're the most comfortable during the whole process. Will also massage your hair while washing that you almost go to sleep!

His go to hairstyle: Goddess crown braids, or any retro hairstyle (think 50’s looks), He might even form cat ears to your afro if you want

Asmo

He's been waiting for this one!! You two quickly go to the local demon hair store to get the highest quality moisturizers, shampoos, gels, everything. He even buys that expensive detangler comb that's been all the rage lately. He would love to do some installs, box braids, anything!! Let him do it. He's used to doing Mammon's hair sometimes and some of his succubus's friends' hair as well.

His go to hairstyle: Any hairstyle involving finishing touches like edges. Asmo loves doing that final stroke (lol) with the brush to show off your maximum beauty.

Beel

If you want crumbs in your hair, sure! But depending on how much hair you have, be prepared he's going to get hungry A LOT. Take breaks. Your hair's gonna take a whole day. But don't worry, Beel likes taking this time for you. Also, he might eat your hair products if they smell a little too good (he’s done this with some of Asmo’s perfumes before).

His go to hairstyle: I feel like he would like two-strand twists the most (not like that's my current hairstyle or anything) cause they're simple to do for his big hands.

Belphie

Usual lazy butt Belphie; he didn't want to do it at first and groaned that you should just go to Asmo. Instead, you take this as a bonding experience and send him a bunch of braiding videos through his DDD. One video catches his attention- locs!

His go to hairstyle: He practices his locing techniques and he gets so good he can do it in his sleep! He'll even detox your hair too- leaving you in the detox basket while he naps and then retwists for you!

Diavolo

Not the best at hair (Barbatos does it for him) but is willing to learn!! It piques his interest so much he funds a black hair business in the devildom. Next thing you know, all the succubi wanna look like you (-_-) looks like the next lesson is cultural appropriation now.

His go to hairstyle: Likes fun & simple hairstyles like Afro bubble ponytail and Space buns

Barbatos

You don't even have to ask, once he sees you walking towards him with a comb & spray, he knows. He's a total pro with the flat iron (cause of Diavolo) but is able to do every hairstyle in the book. Wash day is total heaven, he'll professionally massage your temples that have you feeling it down to your toes.

His go to hairstyle: Doesn’t really have one! He does like doing hairstyles that would take longer because he gets more time with you <3

Simeon

Being the sweet angel he is, he would happily do it for you! He loves doing unique hairstyles the most - because those are the ones he can spend the most time with you. Another pro with the flat iron, but loves doing simple looks with a unique edge.

His go to hairstyle: Half braided half natural looks, fade undercuts, tries to braid hearts in your hair, etc.

Solomon

Instead of actually doing your hair, does African threading instead. He tells you he went to Africa a long time ago and saw the technique multiple times. He's even had his own experience of doing it on an acquaintance's child one time.

His go to hairstyle: He opts the most for out-of-face convenience hairstyles like Bantu knots (plus he can see your face more this way <3)

Hi, this is FGO recent player + Genshin disillusioned anon! I finished Camelot a few days ago & I can’t help but compare how Camelot vs Sumeru uses allies. In Camelot, our allies have personal reason to oppose Lion King, reflected in their decision. Not so much in Sumeru. It reads less of “we save Nahida because of personal belief/reason” and more of “we save Nahida because She Is Right.” I haven’t bought its emotional beat the first time but comparing them highlights Genshin Writing Issue (1/2)

What FGO is doing here is pretty much Basic Writing 101 but Genshin does not even do that? An attempt was barely made, and that’s me being generous. I want to be interested in the characters but the game does not even give a shit. And fandom eats that? I do not get it, at all, and I wish fandom actually scrutinizes the writing harder. (As a sidenote, I know Camelot is great and I have seen the full game playthrough before but playing the entire story is an emotional ride! Bedi ;;__;;) (2/2)

BEDI………… 🤝🤝🤝 He's so great. I loved the Camelot chapter, it was the one that made me sit up and go "!!??" for the first time. Nasu's chapters haven't let me down a single time since then. I'm glad you're still enjoying yourself :) Babylonia is a real doozy heheh

But yeah, the thing is… I don't think anyone working on Genshin KNOWS Basic Writing 101? Or at the very least, they know Of it but not how to Do it. Like, it does feel like they're learning lessons as they go. They're learning the sorts of things they SHOULD be including, like having characters Talk To Each Other in meaningful ways, or actually bothering to get you attached to characters before trying to make you feel bad for them, making sure the playable characters are in the story and At Least Do Something... and they even finally apparently listened to my cries and actually wrote an investigation phase into their mystery storyline (resulting in the worst detective work I have ever seen in any story, ever. My standards are exceptionally low on that btw. I have seen a lot of Noddy, Toyland Detective.)

I just don't think they understand how story structure, character arcs or, heck Ace Attorney trials work before they start trying to produce or replicate them. They know what they like and the story they want to tell but not how to tell it. I think that's why they're so much more comfortable writing all the cool stuff into the lore dumps than the main storyline; books and artifact lore and letters are a lot easier to write than any of the things IN those books, artifact lore or letters. And I think that's because even if they do have writers, the ones they have are amateurs, and whoever's in charge of supervising/editing their work has no idea what they're doing!

I think HYV is finally starting to recognise their own weaknesses, because… okay, it might just be me, but doesn't it seem like Genshin's side characters have been getting more mundane? I think they've finally started to recognise that if they put Too Much Cool Stuff into a character's backstory, players will eventually expect them to actually follow through and they backed TF off real quick. Diluc and Kaeya's Literally Everything, Albedo 'destroying Mondstadt', Xiao Fighting Ancient God Ghosts, Beidou vs The Sea Monster She Killed And Won't Let Anyone Forget About, the bizarre personality traits originally imbued into the 4star characters…. doesn't it feel like Genshin's avoided writing things like that into its new characters?

The "shove all the relevant information into their backstory" game point blank refused to engage with Collei's backstory or offer any insight into Why Cyno Is Like That in their LORE, let alone the main story. Let alone the main story it should be suuuuuper relevant to. No one has any out there character quirks and there sure doesn't seem to be any implication that anyone is doing any Really Cool Dramatic Fights off-screen anymore, because the players might expect you to actually write those things!

Suffice to say that I am very curious how Lyney & Lynette's storyline will be handled going forward because it really feels like Genshin is afraid of their own cast.

Obviously, FGO doesn't have any of these issues. It's written by actual professional writers that can like, write. Even when they screw up, the structure of the story they're telling is still sound because they know how narrative structure is supposed to work. It's just that… Nasu is SUCH a technically skilled writer that he nails everything Genshin fucks up so cleanly it damns Genshin by comparison. It is especially fun to compare Inazuma to Lostbelt 6 because they have enough superficial plot similarities that make Inazuma's failings shine bright as day.

I think people are happy accepting it because uhhhh Genshin is played by a) a lot of casuals and b) meta-fans and c) lore nerds and that means that people often just accept the story for what it pretends to be instead of scrutinising it for what it is. I get that, sometimes I just wanna turn my brain off and only half pay attention to a story I'm reading and I definitely have a threshold for bullshit I'm willing to accept. Genshin just… even when I'm trying to be charitable, it always punches through all the allowances I'm giving it…

I think some people also just enjoy taking the character prompts and filling in the gaps themselves, rather than have the story do it for them, or that also low-stakes fantasy feel good fluff is appealing sometimes (and Genshin is definitely more comfortable trying to write that). On the other hand, I feel like I see people "filling in the gaps" for the story with stuff that isn't there, like their mind is auto-filling the missing parts of the story or linking up themes/information in ways that SEEM logical but aren't actually the case....

I've seen a lot of predictions or comments about the Oratrice that don't like up with canon, for example. But given the story that Genshin started setting up in Fontaine, those predictions/comments feel like the logical path the story regarding the Oratrice should be taking... or, you know, all the character arcs Genshin tried to write, I think there was a lot of 'filling the gaps' on some of the details of those!
