Bilbo: Okay, I’m going to get the wedding cake. Thorin: Perfect, while you do that I’ll check on the ring bear. Bilbo: … Bilbo: You mean ring bearER, right? Thorin: … Bilbo: Look me in the eyes and tell me you are not going to bring a dangerous wild animal to our wedding.

Watching the extended edition of The Battle of the Five Armies convinces me that at least part of the screenwriting/directing/editing meant for the audience to be able to read into Bagginshield but be able to technically deny it for those who didn't want it.
The way Balin looked at Bilbo when talking about Thorin. The way Thorin hoarded Bilbo instead of the arkenstone. The way that all the other dwarves paused and stared when Bilbo received the mithril. The way that Bilbo says he took the arkenstone to stand against his claim, and Thorin says "you have no claim over me". The way that the cuts between Bilbo crying over Thorin to Tauriel crying over Kili aren't even subtle, they do it TWICE. They let HER talk about HIM, call it love, and it is called "true", and then show it's direct equal with Bilbo. Who doesn't say anything with Gandalf. What can he say, after all, that the Tolkien Share Holders wouldn't complain about? Especially in 2014?
If it were just about friendship, even a deep world-moving friendship, he wouldn't have struggled to call it that with Balin. He doesn't label it, because Balin knows. And he knows that. And in the shire, they already call him odd for not marrying a fine young lass. Of course he'd label that friendship. And nonetheless, he still pauses saying it then.
Richard Armitage put as much meaning behind his lines and his looks as he could. And Freeman, despite always getting shipped with his castmates on tumblr, seemed more committed to acting the widowed mourning role than Tauriel, and give twice the camera time for it too.
Tauriel's character created to be a shallow love interest as a Hollywood ploy felt cheap. Using her as a foil for Bilbo felt intentional. The people behind the movie have made it clear. Bagginshield was real. And that can never be taken from us.

And I’m exiting with these guys:

Idk how I went from that to this but oh well 🤷🏼, not complaing
(Also like to include that I still LOVE Bilbo and Thorin, #Bagginshield, but Hannibal and Will kinda snuck their way into the hyperfixations)

That time in the BOTFA where they went through characters mourning the loss of/suffering separation from their loved ones and then they just cut to Bilbo sitting by himself, looking like THIS.

Boffins AU where both Bilbo and Bofur raise Frodo after his parents die and Bofur is constantly showing Frodo off and carrying him around because he loves his new nephew/adopted son. He loves to cuddle both Frodo and Bilbo because they’re his entire world.

Thorin would the freak the fuck out if he sees Bilbo eating a tomato. As he thinks it’s poisonous.
Bilbo would be very confused as a result.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if during the time Thorin worked as a blacksmith, he ended up marrying Bilbo for his money but Bilbo ended up agreeing to the marriage because the blue mountains is prime mushroom farming estate and the dwarrow just doesn't see the value to it? Like, they're both golddiggers who thinks the other is their sugardaddy or something and they both feel really guilty for only marrying the other for their material possession.
A slow burn fic where they slowly fall in love with one another but feels supper guilty in doing so.
Bilbo, who probably has gift-giving as his love language, keeps on buying things for Thorin and Thorin being super guilty about taking advantage of Bilbo's generosity and is now panicking that maybe Bilbo will stop supporting him financially when Bilbo finds out that he only married him for his money.
Thorin, who probably has acts-of-service or quality time as his love language, spends more time with Bilbo doing menial tasks and just is always there and Bilbo being super guilty that he's taking advantage of Thorin's "genuine feelings" to get access to those mushrooms that made all the other hobbits green with envy and is now panicking that maybe Thorin might stop his mushroom gathering privilegea once Thorin picks up on the real reason that he said yes to him.
Also dwarrow and hobbit cultural difference and miscommunication on what they value the most (dwarrow thinking that mushrooms as a courting gift is just scandalous, while hobbits thinks that giving money is akin to buying someone's affection or something)

Crack AU where instead of it being Thorin’s Company getting Bilbo to help them reclaim Erebor from Smaug, it’s Turgon and the Lords of Gondolin trying to find Gondolin. Nothing written in the Silmarillion has changed. Tuor and Maeglin are both there. Gondolin is still under the sea. They all remember what happened. At no point does anyone comment on any of this. They play out the entire plot of The Hobbit. Gandalf is still in charge.
