A Flashy Act-Buggy x Reader (One Piece Live Action)

Summary: You and Luffy find yourself with new members for your small pirate crew, quickly after stealing the map to the grand line, you're all kidnapped by a crew of pirates.

(Based on the One Piece Live Action!! since no one has written about Buggy which has surprised me. Enjoy this one shot Buggy fans!! You guys can decide if you want part 2 to include smut or not😩 next part will be written depending on how well people like this🤡)

"You know I'm gonna be king of the pirates. It's the first time I've had a ship like this." Luffy excitedly told the ginger haired girl.

"I know you've told me that many times already. Can you please be silent for once?" She asked getting annoyed by Luffy's constant talking.

"You be quiet. The kid's just excited." The green man known as Zoro told Nami.

Nami was trying to open the lock which was protecting the map inside.

Both of them unexpectedly helped us, when Luffy and I broke inside to find the map to the grand line, with a bit of help from Koby who had been kidnapped by Alvida. Thankfully Luffy saved him, the young boy said he wanted to join the Marines.

Luffy and I had entered and quickly met Nami and Zoro. Zoro was tied up with Nami dressed as a Marine trying to also have the map Luffy and I were after.

I have been by Luffy's side since many years now. Since he was a small boy, I am only just a couple of years older but I was the second person who raised him. The first being my older brother,l Shanks.

Just earlier the four of us were fighting a couple of Marine soldiers with Axe Hand Morgan trying to stop us, and almost did. If it weren't for Zoro and Luffy's help then we might've already been executed.

"He's just being enthusiastic about all of this. There's no need to be so mean." I said glaring at Nami and she glared back as well.

I decided to not say anything else to her so I walked over to where Luffy was holding onto his straw hat.

He had a smile on his face when he turned to look back at me. "Can you believe this, (Y/N). We finally have have a crew. I can only imagine the look on his face if he were to see me."

"I know he'll be proud. You're slowly becoming a true pirate." I nudge his shoulder and saw him smiling as he stared at the dark skies.

"I think we all make a pretty good team."

"Why do you even protect that hat so much. It looks like to fished it out of the trash."

"One man's trash is another man's treasure." Luffy replied to Nami when she spotted him holding onto the hat.

We all looked back and saw Nami has successfully managed to open the lock. "You did it!" Nami picked the map and unrolled it. With the four of us standing close looking down at it.

Luffy didn't get it or understood where the Grand Line is, so Nami began drawing it for him so he could understand it better. Rogers treasure is hidden somewhere in there.

A loud sort of bomb was heard with the sky now turning red. We all ran out of the ship and saw something explode in the sky. Zoro was the first to fall to the floor and Nami began to cough before she collapsed.

Oh shit. I tried to cover my mouth and nose but to was too late and I also fell to the floor and collapsed.

"Shhh (Y/N)."

I jumped up a bit and opened my eyes to see Luffy a bit too close to me. I rubbed my eyes and tried to stand up but saw that the four of us were inside of a wooden box.

"What..how did we get here?"

"It wasn't the Marines work. Before we all collapsed, I saw a ship heading towards us." Luffy said with Zoro quickly replying to him.

"It'll be easy then. Marines have training. Pirates don't."

We all were quickly met with circus music when the top of the box was removed along with the rest of the box. What the hell?

Zoro, Nami and I looked at each other weirdly when we looked at our surroundings. We were inside of a huge circus tent.

Red and white colored stripes with lights decorating the place, weird looking people and a crowd that were seated but we're tied by their ankles.

The crowd continued to clap with Luffy doing the same but Nami and I stopped him.

"No no no. Stop clapping! It's all wrong"

The four of us looked over at where the voice was coming from and we all looked to our left, and saw a tall man come through dressed entirely as a clown.

Long coat, bright blue long hair with exaggerated makeup and a red clown nose.

"The spotlight was late, it missed my entrance. And where oh where is the lion?" He said standing close to a man with white bear ears?

"Heyy. I know you." Luffy said which made me look back at him wishing he hadn't spoken.The man with blue hair turned to look at us. Wait..Luffy is right, we've seen him before.

"I saw your Wanted poster at Shell's town. You're the clown guy..umm..uhh. Binky, right?" He asked.

I nudged Luffy's shoulder. "Shut up, Luffy. That's Buggy." I muttered seeing that the clown kept his eyes on us.

"Buggy." The pirate corrected and grinned. "Buggy the Clown. Buggy, the Flashy Fool. Buggy, the Genius Jester." He said when no one spoke, seems like no one here knows about him.

"That one beside you seems to be the only one who's heard about me." I felt nervous when his blue eyes landed on me and he smiled.

I had only heard of him, and saw him on the Wanted poster. But I swear I must've at least since him once before…

He's creepy..but weirdly find him attractive. Maybe it's just my brain distracting myself from danger, who knows.

Luffy seemed impressed, "Wow. You have a lot of names."

I nodded my head and looked at Luffy, "He does. Everyone in the East Blue knows who he is."

"What did you just say?" His expression changed when I suddenly said that. Which made me confused.

"That everyone knows who you are?"

"Nose?!" I was paralyzed when Buggy came over and was now holding onto my face.

"Are you making fun of my nose?" He said a bit too close to me.

"I swear I wasn't! But..now that you mention it, is that thing real?" I asked genuinely wanting to know.

Buggy tilted his head as he stared at me, "You're kinda cute." He hummed and grinned

I saw Luffy's hand slowly started to try and tough the clowns nose until he smacked his hand away. The clown grinned looking down at me and stepped back letting go of me.

"You think you're so clever… What's real is I've been scheming for months to steal that map from old Axe Hand Moron. Only to find out that I was upstaged by four little nobodies, who stole it from right under my no-…No!! It's in my head now."

"Hey! I'm not a nobody. I'm Monkey D. Luffy. And I will be king of the pirates." My best friend said making Buggy laugh.

"Oh! Now that's funny. My bounty poster graces the marquee of every Marine Outpost for miles. And my menagerie of outcasts and freaks is the most dreaded pirate crew the East blue has ever known. I am destined to find One Piece. And when I do. I will be King."

"No, you won't. 'Cause I'm gonna find it first." Luffy told him.

Zoro stepped between us and looked at the other clowns behind Buggy. "I am Roronoa Zoro. Drop your weapons now and I may let you live."

This made Buggy laugh while looking at the green haired stoic man.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a celebrity in our midst. Too bad I hate sharing the spotlight. Now, maybe we should skip right to the finale."

Buffy retrieve a set of blades and smiled at us.

"My freaks put quite a bit of a rehearsal time into this little abduction. And if I can reward them with that map.. I suppose I'll have to offer them a pound of flesh instead."

Nami stepped between Luffy and I now, now looking at Buggy. "Wait. What if I have something else to offer you? Something more valuable than the map? What if I give you a new freak for your crew?"

"A rare talent. The most spectacular act in all the East Blue. Besides you, of course."

Nami glanced back at me and I glared back. Nami has grabbed Luffy's straw hat and tossed it up, just when Luffy showed his devil fruit powers, Nami left running.

"That little bitch." I whispered glaring at where she left.

It wasn't long at all when they brought her back and she revealed that Buggy's crew had destroyed the entire town.

He shrugged his shoulders as he stared at her. "Not everything. I let 'em keep their hands."

The sign for "clap" was lifted again, making the poor towns people begin to clap.

All the lights were suddenly focused on Buggy again. "I know one of you has my map, and I'm going to get it back." He said in a serious voice now.

"What was it you said, Rubber boy? That ir was in a safe place. Don't look so surprised. I got eyes and ears everywhere."

"I know where it is." I spoke up making all eyes turn to look at me.

I began to laugh as I showed the clowns and Buffy my middle finger. "You can all suck it or shove it up your asses.

Buffy clapped and at the people surrounding him. "Okay! Let's make our guests uncomfortable in the green room." A few clowns came to grab Nami and Zoro.

While another pair came to grab Luffy, Buggy stood behind me grabbed my neck and grinned looking at Luffy and looking back down at me.

"And I am gonna have a chat with our new pals.."

There's not a lot of strawhats-in-the-real-world AUs, so I'm here to fill that void! This has been on my mind for a hot minute now, so let's talk about the characters in One Piece if they were youtubers!

Luffy - Travel Vlogger

Channel: IAMLUFFY

Subscriber Count: 7 Million.

Luffy would 100% be the unintentionally annoying vlogger who just streams and records everything. He's more likely to shove a camera in your face by accident, but he's also the guy who makes really engaging content and does more unique things than your average vlogger. He'd actually be a pretty big name in the vlogging sphere I'd imagine, and while vlogging channels tend to have lower subcounts, I think that 7m would be a good number for him to have. Luffy would also be down to record with other people (regardless of their sub count), and wouldn't mind traveling halfway across the world to do a one-off collab (especially if you agree to feed him).

His content: His content would revolve around travel, food, everyday living, and funny anecdotes. The editing would be very fast-paced with lots of graphics, and sound effects. He'd need to have an editor, and that poor editor would just be swamped with hours upon hours of random footage of him eating, or picking his nose. Lots of B-roll potential!

Zoro - Fitness Guru/Vlogger.

Channel: Roronoa Zoro

Subscriber Count: 3 Million.

It's a no-brainer that Zoro would be a fitness influencer. He would never have thought of becoming an influencer, but Luffy probably recorded him working out in some of his early vlogs, and convinced him to start his own channel. He wouldn't be as into vlogging as Luffy, and definitely wouldn't put much of his personal life out there, but he'd still show what he did and make it somewhat entertaining. Zoro would have fangirls up the wazoo! Especially since he trains without his shirt on, and always shows himself working out. I don't think he'd do collabs on his channel, but he'd always accept being in one of Luffy's vlogs, or even guest starring on Sanji's show (more on that later--).

Content: I think his content would be focused on posting his daily schedule, what he ate, how he worked out, etc. as well as a weekly weigh-in. He'd occasionally post his kendo tournaments and would encourage people to try it out, and make tutorials on all things kendo. I have a feeling he'd probably have the most sponsorship offers, but he'd turn down the vast majority of them (since a lot of them are scams). I don't think he'd have an editor since he seems like the kind of guy to just slap it together with some music behind it and post it to YT or Insta. I can even imagine him getting quite decent at editing and filming, and using Brook's music (with permission ofc). I think he'd also talk about stuff about the gym, what he likes vs. doesn't like, and sometimes talk while he works out.

Sanji - Cooking Show

Channel: Devil's Kitchen with Sanji

Subscriber Count: 3 Million.

I don't think I need to explain why Sanji would have a cooking show, but I imagine it more like Binging with Babish with fun challenges, instead of straight up Kitchen Nightmares/reality TV. He'd have the highest production value out of the strawhats with a cameraman and 2-3 editors, and he'd probably be the only one to actually get a show on cable (separate from his YT). Sanji would be more likely to bring guests onto his show, and I can see Zoro being a frequent guest. Would not be surprised if they start a podcast tbh. Wouldn't be surprised if they also lived together

Content:

His content would be a lot less 'indie' feeling and more high quality. Lots of cool camera angles and editing. His stuff would end up on Food P*rn I'd imagine. Like, all the time. Sanji would probably be asked to collab with other people, and he'd take a lot more sponsorships too. Soy Sauce wants to sponsor him? Hell yeah, he'd do it! Bang Energy Drink? Well, no. He still has standards. I can imagine him doing a lot of 'How-to' videos and diet-focused videos, like "How to Cook for Vegans", or "Best Gluten-Free Recipes". He'd probably be in and out of relationships quite a lot too, maybe some controversies? (Lemme know if ya'll want some headcannons for that.)

“ Y/N-ya we always talk about your situation, but we never talk about your world”

“ My world?” You emphasized.

“ Yeah, tell me about it. Honestly I’ve been curious since it must be so different than here”

“ Well, in my world the year is 2023 and there are no pirates who sail the seas to find treasure. Uh, there are these things called cars and we use them as transportation through cities and what not.”

You told Law all you could, about the advancement of technology, art, video games, medicine, comic books that he would like, and his eyes never left yours once. The sky was now a light blue and the sun shined through the trees giving you a soft morning glow.

Law was admiring you as you spoke. You smiled as you told him all the little things about your world and your life back home. You were a beautiful person through and through. He liked that your world was so different and had things he’d never even imagined before.

“ Y/N do you think I could visit your world as well?” The sudden question from you made your eyes grow wide.

Imagine Law in your world?

“ That was something else I’ve been meaning to tell you about the Strawhats… they’ve figured out how to get to my world. That’s honestly why I’m here right now”

“ Really?”

“ Yes, remember I told you that when I first got here, I had only been here for two and a half weeks before I figured out how to get home. I had written all my theories and strategies on a sheet of paper Nami gave me and put it under the book shelf in her office.”

“ Why did you hide it there?”

“ Well I couldn’t hide it in the girls room, they would’ve easily found it there. But obviously I didn’t hide it well enough because Robin was the one to find it.”

“ Smart woman”

“ Too smart sometimes…”

The camp was now in view and to both of your surprise the crew was up already building things and reading maps. When they noticed the two of you, you were given a very warm welcome ( especially from Bepo ). You both were given breakfast and you were all happily sitting together at the table.

This feels so different than being with the Strawhats. After my first week with them everything went to shit. Even though I haven’t known the heart pirates long even their vibe is different.

“ I have an announcement” Law declared. Everyone’s eyes trained to him, you were happily sipping on orange juice before it sprayed onto the now orange tainted fur in front of you.

Law decided to tell the crew you were together. It was like you were an actual character in the show the way you reacted. You coughed before looking into Law’s eyes and he was smiling devilishly.

Bastard, he enjoyed that too much !

His announcement rose multiple questions, It seemed to be a silently agreement that you wouldn’t mention that it was a relationship formed out of convenience and you both answered all of them before the door to the camp was struck open. The entire crew of the Strawhats was standing there in all their glory. The silence was deafening until a cunning woman spoke up.

“ I see you took my advice- quickly at that. Congratulations Law.” Nami smirked.

The crew filed into the kitchen and Luffy was first to walk up to you. “ Y/N, we need to save Sanji why are you messing around with another Captain”. He snapped. “ We haven’t even discussed the plan Luffy.” You replied.

He huffed through his nose before grabbing your arm and dragging you out your seat. You pushed him off and stumbled backwards to be caught by Law. The tension rose, both crews were now on defense and Zoro was first to take out his sword.

“ Traffy.. I think it’s best you let our crew mate go with our captain.”

“ I don’t exactly see why all of you are behaving this way towards a crew mate.”

“ Y/N let’s go now, we can meet up with Trafalgar later” Robin warned.

This fear had somehow became familiar to you now, they all had that same look in their eyes. If you don’t come now something will happen. You looked at Law searching his eyes for an answer before he grabbed you waist spinning you to face him. He then took your face in his hand softly and kissed you.

Gasps were heard throughout the room and he pulled away. You were starting at him wide eyed and held a subtle smirk as he looked towards the Captain and Vice Captain.

“ Is it wrong for me to spend time with my girlfriend?”

That seemed to be Luffy’s breaking point. He stretched his arms and roughly dragged you out of Law’s hands and firmly commanded his crew to follow behind him. You were struggling against his grip, he was wrapped around you so tight you could hardly breathe.

Law tried to reach for him but Zoro was too quick, he almost cut Law’s hand off but it’s too bad Law is up to par with Zoro in terms of strength.

“ Strawhat.”

Luffy stopped in his tracks not turning around.

“ Is this how you want to break off our alliance? Is that a smart idea?”

“ I never said I was breaking our alliance, I just don’t like people stealing my crew mate” he grumbled.

After that the Strawhats left leaving the Heart Pirates and their captain to ponder their next steps. They could all see the fear and worry on Law’s face even if it was just a small twitch in his eye.

You continuously struggled in Luffy’s grip as you walked through the forest and when he finally let you go you pushed him away from you.

“ What are you doing Luffy ! You just ruined your alliance with Law”

“ Are you really worried about the alliance or are you worried about not seeing your little boyfriend?” Zoro Interrupted.

You gave him an incredulous look before rolling your eyes and continuing to walk the same way as before back to the Minks. Upon arrival Carrot jumped into Luffy’s arms while Wanda looked worried. She could see that the crew was stressed and she didn’t know what to do, she was hoping the cheerfulness of Carrot would lighten up the mood when the bell was rung again.

It was as if a lightbulb was lit in your head, this was when Jack came back for revenge. The island shook and everyone was stumbling around, Zoro snatched you and ran towards one of the huts.

“ Y/N do not leave until one of us comes to get you !” He hurriedly spoke.

“ What am I a baby?”

“ It’s not even that it’s-”

“ Yeah sure whatever”

He let out a deep sigh before placing his hand on his sword and looking at you. “ Y/N why do you make everything into a fight?”

“ Me? I’m really the issue to all of you? Wow it can really never fail huh”

“ Nobody is saying you’re an issue, but why do we have to fight all the time when we all Lov-”

“ It’s as if all of you forget how I’ve gotten here in the fuckin first place ! And love? You think THIS is Love !”

Zoro’s eye twitched, the air between the two of you was thick and although the ground rumbled and screaming was heard nothing had mattered in that moment. All Zoro could see was fury and pain behind your eyes. They were glossed over and your hand was balled into a fist.

It hurt him to see you like that, he loved you more than you could imagine and he was doing everything to prove that to you. But you ended up with Law… His eyes were hardened again and he stepped closer to you.

“ Of course you think like this Y/N… That silly captain has been scrambling your brain hasn’t he?”

“ How is this conversation about Law?” You laughed.

“ How is it that you are with Law when you told everyone that you were just friends?”

“ Listen I don’t have time for this right now and neither do you, just get out and go help the minks” you turned away from him and say on the bed waiting for the door to slam shut.

Instead Zoro stormed over to you and turned you to face him. You were in utter disbelief, he looked like a mad man. His face was flushed down to his neck and he had a death grip on your shoulders.

“ Zoro…”

Slowly but surely he closed the small gap between you, your hand was on his chest but you didn’t have any strength to push him back. Suddenly, he kissed you hard and fast and you bumped foreheads in the process. His hands moved from your shoulders to your face and although they were rough with calluses this was the first time he had been so tender and soft with you.

He was holding you so delicately, to him you were a faberge egg. Your hand stayed out on his chest till he pulled away and that’s when things started to speed up to pace.

Oh my god I just cheated on Law.

The panic was clear on your face and Zoro reached out to comfort you. You slapped his hand away and a subtle frown made it’s way to the usual indifferent face of the swordsman.

“ Zoro I don’t know what you’re trying to do but, I’m dating Law.”

“ But who is your protector? Who looks out for you? Who is your drinking buddy? Shall I go on Y/N?”

“ My protector? The one who looks out for me? Zoro when I got on the Sunny after two years you put me in a choke hold until my eyes rolled into the back of my skull. When I came to you looking for someone who can help me, YOU said you didn’t have an answer to satisfy me !” You barked at him standing up from the bed.

“ Listen I can apologize for what I didn’t a million times, I’ll do whatever you ask me Y/N but when I told you I had nothing to satisfy you it was the truth. I can’t go against my captain for you— for anyone, you fuckin know this.”

You were both yelling at this point. The rumbling and roaring of Zunesha was absolutely nothing compared to you and Zoro right now. You were in his face and his cheeks were red, you pushed him into corners and he would pull you closer. At some point words stopped being spoken, it was now hands and rough kisses.

The net was made and the ships were now being brought back into Zunesha, Making the net worse Robin out so she was sitting on a stump when Ussop handed her a drink.

“ Thank you”

“ No problem”

Robin being the intelligent woman she is she was quick to notice the hesitancy of the boy in front of her. It was like the words wanted to jump from his lips but they were sealed shut.

“ Sit with me, Nami went with Wanda to get snacks she e should be here soon” She said patting the other side of the stump.

He sat gingerly and looked off into the distance, the silence was peaceful and he was finally able to muster up some confidence after a few minutes.

“ Robin I’ve been meaning to ask you about something’s you know like, Sanji, Law, and Y/N of course”

“ Ask away”

“ Well for starters, I can’t believe they are actually together they told literally everyone they were just friends.”

Robin giggled at his shock, “ People become great liars when they need to hide things. You of all people should know that well”

“ That’s true but, don’t you think this is a scheme as well?”

“ Yes. I wholeheartedly do think the two of them together is not just a completely innocent innocent relationship. However, we can’t just say that to her we already lost her trust completely”

Ussop hummed in agreement and Y/N flashed through his mind. She was the only crew member who he could truly relate to, not to mention how kindhearted you were when you first met. You played with him and his best friends, helped him with his inventions, and took care of his garden with him.

I’m his eyes you resembled Kaya, you were both so gentle with him and you indulged him even when others didn’t. You were also pleasing on the eyes, whenever you would go shopping with Nami you’d both bring back full bags of clothes with a multitude of accessories. When you wore anything you stuck out like a wild flower growing in a field of daisies.

“ Robin, Ussop !” Someone called out.

That broke him out of his trance, he turned to see Nami, Wanda, and Momonosuke holding drinks and food making his mouth water. When all of them settled down Nami brought up Sanji.

“ What are we going to do? Why would Big Mom even want him?”

“ I’m sure it’s nothing to truly worry about Nami” Wanda intervened rubbing her back trying to soothe her.

Law had been watching and listening to them speak from the Mini transportation snail he planted on Ussop earlier. When they were going through chaos it was easy to place one inconspicuously, he knew it would be a good idea considering the conversation they’re having right now.

Law was leaning on a tree, Bepo was blocking the view of him so he can’t hold the transportation snail to his ear. While doing this he noticed that you and Zoro were coming from the direction of the huts. You found his eyes and gave him and awkward smile and a wave before your eyes trained back to the ground.

He raised an eyebrow but chose to ignore it for now, you would address your issues with Zoro to him later. Right now he needed to form a believable plan to you to Wano and not stuck on Whole Cake Island.

You were lost in thought, what had you really just done. Would Zoro keep quiet about it? Or will he try and ruin your relationship on purpose?

“ Zoro… this can never happen again”

He picked his shirt up from the floor and gathered his fallen swords not saying a word to you. You sighed as a migraine was now forming. “ Zoro are you just gonna ignore me now?” You nagged.

“ Y/N why do you play with peoples hearts?” His voice trembled as he stood up.

Your face contoured in absolute bewilderment. “ Play with people’s hearts?? You know, I know I was wrong for kissing you back but you were the one to start this in the first place !” When he said nothing in return you let out a joyless chuckle as you continued.

“ Zoro, I have never played with your emotions, in fact I made it clear I was uncomfortable with you and upset when you first told me you couldn’t help me when I thought I could really trust you.”

You angrily walked up to him turned him around to face you, Zoro doesn’t get to turn his back to you, he doesn’t get to blame his emotions and actions on you. “ You’re acting like a fool, I’ve always held you in such high regard even before we met. You have never acted this way in front of everyone so why are you doing this with me? You don’t know me as well as you or the rest of the Strawhats thinks. That’s exactly what makes my entire situation even crazier, none of you actually know me to have such an infatuation-”

“ You just don’t Fuckin get it”

“ What the fuck is there to get? Quickly”

“ I- We-” he scrambled for words before you took him by the cheeks and pulled him to your face.

“ This isn’t about the crew, this is about you don’t say WE”

i was curious what you thought of the live-action One Piece now that season one is out! personally, i have the same compliants as Geoff of Mother's Basement (youtu.be/43K-H_dtQ9g?si=2n0MLLPmdw0vARk7) where, personally, my main compliants were (1) how clean some of these well-worn outfits and set-pieces were and the bigger one was (2) how Garp was altered but i, like Geoff, have my hopes that s2 can fix that by showing that this is the experience (mostly part from Mihawk) that changed Garp into more of the Garp we see in the manga. "a high 8 or low 9 out of 10" indeed. overall, i think its okay as an adaptation! i like Sanji's perviness being toned down, i dont mind most of the shuffling and changing because it is an adaptation with timeslots and seasons unlike a limitless manga with arcs however long it wants. i can understand if you or others dont like the live-action adaptation though! i just like that it was a good gateway to help me turn some of my friends into One Piece fans, less scared of how BIG One Piece is now the live-action has given them a limited taste, towards the manga or the OnePace.net-editted version of the anime (though i do still plan to have them watched some of the anime-only filler that is fun lmao maybe ill throw a sleepover or something, idk, i just like how OnePace fine-tunes the padded-out pacing problem the later One Piece episodes have) thats the main plus of the live-action adaptation to me

but im curious about your thoughts if you have any?? its okay if you never plan to watch it, i know a few other fans like that and i dont mean for my wuestion to be all peer-pressure-y or anything ♡

i've never heard of onepace until now! i'm in the same boat, i've been watching opla with my sister who's kind of interested in starting one piece but is also intimidated by the anime's episode count. maybe we can watch onepace instead. thanks for letting me know ☺️

i've only seen the first two episodes (but don't care at all about spoilers and have seen a lot already). i didn't like the first episode, zoro particularly, but the second was fun! well... it was camp. combined, i would give it the verdict of "aggressively okay" but this isn't a judgement on anyone who liked it. if you did, i'm happy you had a good time. i just have cinema brain.

what i liked so far: helmeppo's >:O face and his puma trainers. the vfx team in charge of luffy's rubberyness. buggy's "surprise, shithead!" nami's den den mushi earpiece/cellphone.

the rest:

zoro’s zombified no energy go girl give us nothing monotone. 😐 <- why did they tell him to make this face in every shot

they cut the scene where luffy gives zoro his swords back and replaced it with helmeppo ass

justice for silly winky vain nami. how are they going to do the personality shift into broody serious arlong park nami when she's been broody and serious the whole time

nami spent like 30 minutes unlocking one (1) locked cage. i guess it's because she and zoro needed to talk/get some exposition in, and i'm not going to suggest a better option because i don't want to rewrite half the script. i just found it amusing because normally it's "suspend your disbelief when a character does something amazing for the plot" and not "when a character is noticeably worse at something they really have no business being this bad at. for the plot"

i'm starting to think that zoro and nami lost core personality traits because the writers wanted them to be luffy foils instead of their actual characters

i did hear taz was the best/most charismatic actor out of the straw hats. i'm assuming this is because they let him be sanji instead of making him into a luffy foil since they have enough luffy foils

cameraperson's love affair with low angle closeups and fisheye lens. i don't hate it (it's camp) just pointing it out

i'm literally so serious about mackenyu's insufferable zoro voice. whenever i hear him talk in that joyless southern california kardashian vocal fry my blood pressure shoots through the roof. who made him do that

even though i have issues with the writing, i think objectively opla has done a decent job of pleasing fans. i'm not one of them but i know there's a lot. but on a technical and artistic level... deep sigh palms pressed together listen... i was hoping for spellbinding artistry from the showrunners. beautifully lit scenes, beautiful camerawork, excellent technical chops, lingering shots of luffy's bruised knuckles, the slightly frayed fabric on zoro's swords, a super close-up of a log pose with the crew talking behind the compass needle, their bodies distorted by the glass. fingerprints on kerosene lamps. barnacles on rotting wood. a searingly hot-blue summer sky (super saturated in post) over shells town or wherever. i wanted lush gorgeous rich interesting artistic ideas from the directors and cinematographers. i haven't seen any of that so far, and what i have seen doesn't compel me to watch more. i'm not saying the actual cinematography was bad! just. okay. it was okay.

(but also some of the nighttime/underlit scenes are bad. put a dang key light on your actors 🤺)

concluding thoughts: at the end of the day, if netflix wants to keep throwing millions per episode at tomorrow studios, i'm fine with overlooking mediocre filmmaking and storytelling. i want everyone in the production crew to get their bag. i hope this show runs for another 50 seasons and is powered by union labor forever and ever until the end of time amen

Water 7 Arc: Luffy and Usopp (Manga and Anime Comparison) [Part 2]

Spoiler alert: Don't keep reading if you haven't reached Water 7 Arc (Manga Chapter 333 or Anime Episode 236)

This is the 2nd Part of a previous post. You can read Part 1 here.

Please let me know your opinion about it or if you wish to add anything ^^ (and remember to have mercy on my English xD)

Somehow this second part is even worse than the first :)

I will continue right where i left off:

7th Page:

Nami is shocked by Luffy's bluntness, even if he is right (Usopp is not a shipwright, that is a fact), but immediately is surprised by Usopp still fighting back.

Usopp is blindly insisting on the lack of professional morals and capabilities of Galley-La Company. He is not being logical.

He starts disrespecting Luffy, insulting his intelligence and instinct, and even his position as Captain.

Obviously all words of someone very affected by the heat of the moment... and his own insecurities.

In the Anime:

The scene is long and drags out, making it less obvious that everything that Usopp says is because of the heat of the moment.

We see Luffy's face with a judgingly expression, for some reason, but we don't get Zoro observing silently.

Why are they showing expressions that are not shown by the author, but not showing the ones that he specifically decides to show?

Also, Usopp kneeling on the floor for such a long time while everyone else is standing and just looking... it makes it way more awkward. He is not supposed to be just kneeling: he is angrily getting up on his feet.

Usopp does not look like being bullied in the Manga.

8th Page:

You wanted to see an angry Luffy? Here it is. Now he is angry. Not before.

Usopp has disrespected him as a Captain, in a way that should never be done.

Nami tries desperately to make Usopp understand Luffy's perspective and the pain he went through, believing it's still just a misunderstanding... but they are past that point.

Usopp, like everyone else on a ship, has to respect the Captain's decision. Even without understanding their reasons, even without totally agreeing with them... he has to respect them. That's how it works.

The Captain is the one who has to carry the weight of making the tough decisions. The Captain is the rock where everyone can lie on. The one that gives the sense of security and peace. And in the same way he has to carry all the responsibility, he has to be respected.

Of course a crewmember can argue or show doubts about certain decisions... but only if allowed, and up to a certain point. And that point depends on the Captain's personality. When a Captain has stated over and over their decision (without need, because just once should be enough), a crewmember has to accept it. One should never reach this point, where violence and even mutiny is shown... if you want to stay on their ship.

Luffy is a very approachable, friendly and kind Captain, who doesn't want the others to feel like they are below him and lets everyone help with decisions... but that doesn't mean his role changes or shouldn't be respected.

Usopp is misinterpreting his position in the crew, thinking they are at the same level in authority... but not in responsibility.

Luffy is not sitting on the table anymore, and is now standing on the floor again. This is also a sign of him getting angry, because he goes back to the "fighting ground".

We can see Sanji is still trying to calm them down, stressed that this is spiraling out of control. He is even extending his arms and probably physically separating them, not just talking.

In the Anime:

Luffy looks more stressed and "backing down" than angry, and like he is being manhandled around... when in reality Usopp wouldn't be able to move him like that. The movement lines in the Manga implied that he was receiving Usopp's force but not budging to it.

Of course Sanji's try to stop them is... not there. Like all the previous ones. Anime-Sanji has done nothing at all to stop this fight yet, a really out of character behavior.

9th Page:

Usopp has stepped back and is not holding Luffy by the neck anymore. He even lowers his tone for a moment, probably because of Sanji's words or that he physically separated them.

But he is still angry, and says he could never abandon an injured comrade. This being said while he is injured himself, shows his fears of being abandoned by the rest of the crew because of his poor state.

Luffy (who doesn't make the connection with Usopp comparing himself to the Merry) calls it nonsense to compare what one does to a ship and a person.

Usopp insists on Merry having the will to keep on living (again, projecting on her), and then he says to Luffy one of the nastiest thing you can say to someone: that he doesn't really care about someone they love. That he are already thinking about getting rid of Merry and advancing without her.

Luffy, who is all about loving and caring, absolutely loses it. He violently jumps on Usopp and screams angrily at him because he is being egoist and disrespectful with him and everyone else in the crew. Everyone loves Merry, and implying that he is the only one who cares about her is very mean and egoist.

Of course, grief is a complicated thing. Usopp is hurt and is being hurtful to others, his mind desperately trying to protect itself... Not the way to do it, but he is a 17 year old dealing with a lot of horrible feelings.

But that his feelings are understandable doesn't give him the right to do what he is doing. As a reader, one has to understand that what he is doing is wrong.

Nami is surprised at Luffy's reaction, not expecting he would lose his calm in that way.

Everything is fast: Luffy is very angry and starts screaming at Usopp that if he doesn't approve of the way he is managing the situation, Usopp is free to leave his crew... (a thing he obviously doesn't want to say, it's just the heat of the moment)

In the Anime:

Sanji never did anything to separate them before, so Usopp is still grabbing Luffy by the neck... So they made Luffy push him away from him in a very nasty way, nearly throwing Usopp to the floor.

Now that they are already separated, Sanji decides to try to intervene. Thank you, Anime-Sanji, very useful.

He even talks in a tone that implies this is a little fight between friends, and not a serious problem. Meanwhile Manga-Sanji has been stressed and worried since the first second.

The only thing his intervention does here is diluting the real hurtful comments Usopp makes, the ones that makes Luffy lose it...

Luffy weirdly throws Usopp on the ground, even slowly. And even sits on him?

Sanji looks more annoyed and bothered than really stressed or worried.

Nami screams at Luffy angrily. (I will never understand why Nami is always so angry in the Anime, all the time)

And the scene draaags for a while. It's doesn't look like Luffy is blurting things out of rage anymore.

10th Page:

There is what I believe is a very big misconception around this scene: some people believe Sanji is kicking Luffy for Usopp's sake, when I believe Sanji is doing it for Luffy's sake.

In the Manga it's pretty clear to me:

Sanji has been trying to stop them from escalating the situation since the very beginning: trying to calm Luffy's temper, understanding the pain he is going through, and scolding Usopp for being disrespectful.

But now Luffy has completely lost his temper, getting violent and about to say something in the heat of the moment that he will obviously regret and will hurt him forever if Usopp leaves because of it. The one who would be hurt the most by the words Luffy is about to say is not Usopp, it's Luffy. And Sanji knows it.

It's not a thing that can be stopped with words or holding him anymore. He has to act fast to avoid it.

So Sanji desperately kicks Luffy (while calling him an idiot), forgetting to even be careful about Nami's wellbeing, stopping him from finishing the sentence.

The fact that he doesn't even check on Nami before or after kicking Luffy, even after she screams, shows that he is worrying more about someone else right now...

He also looks very stressed, with all the sweat drops, with what he had to do to stop the situation.

And also his words: he is telling Luffy to control himself or he will say things he will regret. Not that he will hurt someone else, only that he will hurt himself with regret.

But this is not a surprise for a Manga reader. Sanji is always caring about Luffy's wellbeing, be it in the focus of attention or in the background of panels.

Luffy immediately understands what Sanji is doing for him, and apologizes... but Usopp's low self esteem has now what he thinks is a confirmation of his fears, and he proceeds to auto-sabotage.

Now the Anime:

Now we arrive to other one of the worst parts of the "adaptation"

Sanji kicks Luffy...

We get Chopper's reaction, but not Nami's... why?

Because Sanji didn't really kick in her direction! So in this adaptation we completely lose a thing that Oda specifically showed: Manga-Sanji was desperate enough to stop Luffy from harming himself to forget about Nami!

And then he starts insulting Luffy afterwards. For a while. Berating him and just being mean.

The way Sanji talks to Luffy in the Anime is not only disrespectful, but very violent. He is practically daring him to say what he was going to say.

That is not the Sanji the Manga-readers know and love. Manga-Sanji was nearly pleading for him to cool down.

Anime-Sanji looks at Luffy with even hate. That is not the expression Manga-Sanji was having... at all. How this has been adapted in this horrible way is beyond my comprehension.

Of course, in the Anime it looks like he is on Usopp's side.

And we proceed to show how the others are reacting to this slooow paced interaction. Of course, this is completely invented by what the Anime thought was appropriate (so: very weird reactions)

Luffy slowly getting up and apologizing, putting his hat on.

And the Anime decides to show Usopp smiling, like his plan had finally come into fruition.

Usopp is not smiling in the Manga. There is no reason for him to smile. This wasn't a master plan. Very weird to show him smiling.

11th Page:

Usopp keeps saying hurtful and false things to Luffy, meanwhile Luffy is putting his hat and covering his eyes to not look at him, not wanting to fight anymore.

We see Sanji and Nami back on Luffy's side, with Sanji even positioning himself in the middle of the fight in a protecting manner and calling Usopp out (again).

Usopp is finally recognizing the real problem out loud: he doesn't feel he can keep up with the others and feels useless.

He feels he doesn't deserve being there with them, and that they're too much for him.

We see the others reactions: Luffy confused not knowing what to say, Chopper doesn't understand why Usopp feels that way, Nami is finally getting the full picture, Zoro is not liking what he is hearing...

The last panel's composition is full of meaning: all the others are around Luffy, with him, while facing Usopp. Meanwhile Usopp is standing and facing them but from afar, distancing himself from them.

No one but him is in a defensive position anymore.

In the Anime:

We get Usopp and Luffy looking at each other with hate again. Marvelous.

No one is near Luffy. Sanji and Nami haven't moved closer to Luffy, and the others have moved closer to Usopp...? So, the opposite of the Manga.

Luffy's expression is not correct, in the Anime he looks angry again, not confused.

Zoro is listening with his eyes closed, for some reason... I'm starting to believe Anime-Zoro has been sleeping for a while or something.

Sanji's expression is invented.

And I repeat: no one got close to Luffy, so its effect it the complete opposite of the Manga.

The Anime shows a separation between the whole crew and Luffy, while the Manga emphasizes the opposite.

We also see Luffy's back in the Anime, while in the Manga is Usopp's...

All the physical language the Manga made is thrown down the drain in the adaptation.

The Anime wants you to believe the rest of the crew doesn't approve of the things Luffy has done, and that is just not true.

12th Page:

Usopp talks about how he never really was moved to join Luffy for a great cause like the rest: he was just a friend who tagged along. He himself says he has no other ties and that he can sever them anytime he doesn't agree with Luffy's decisions.

He is looking for excuses to make his departure easier.

(That is one of the main points Zoro is going to take into account in the future: Usopp will have to ask for forgiveness and show real loyalty to the crew, because if he keeps on going like this, he is a ticking bomb of mutiny)

Luffy is back to his usual serious expression when he is listening to someone.

Usopp leaves the room and everyone follows.

Then, once everyone is outside, he announces he is leaving the crew, surprising everyone.

In the Anime:

Usopp's expression has nothing to do with the one in the Manga. He is still angry in the Anime.

Luffy and Zoro's expressions are also exaggerated.

You may notice Usopp is saying he is leaving the crew while still in the room...

Well, buckle up, because we are getting close to a hot mess of the Anime.

13th Page:

As we saw in the previous page, they are all outside looking at him. They followed Usopp immediately.

Nami, Sanji and Chopper scream at Usopp to come back, while Zoro and Luffy look in silent.

They scream in different ways: Sanji has the same expression he had when he had to kick Luffy to stop him. Nami is still believing this problem can be fixed. Choppper is crying, still confused with the whole problem.

Usopp is now saying things about himself Luffy doesn't agree with, but he has chosen to not speak anymore, probably to not make the situation worse.

Usopp then asks for a duel.

In the Anime:

We start right with filler!

We get a weird slow motion, with Nami Chopper and Sanji's horrified expressions looking at Usopp close the door.

Let's remember Sanji's expression is supposed to be the same as after he kicked Luffy in the head. Interesting how now it is a distressed expression, and not a hateful one.

Also... guys, open the door and go after him already. It's just a door.

But no, now Nami turns around looks at Luffy with anger and starts confronting him.

Also Zoro looks at Luffy with a very severe expression.

Where does this come from? When has the Manga shown that these two would look at Luffy like that in this situation?

The Anime is making them look against Luffy, contradicting the source material.

The Anime makes Nami keep on going with the critiques, doubting Luffy as a Captain, dumping on him all the responsibility of Usopp's decision and making it look like she believes everything is Luffy's fault.

Manga-Nami would never do that. Even if afterwards she goes and talks to Luffy about solving things with Usopp, she would never treat Luffy like this, using his Captain position this cruelly... in the Manga, that is.

Everyone is just there, looking at Luffy, until he angrily looks back at her.

Up until now, everything is just filler of the Anime. From the very beginning of the adaptation of Page 13. The amount of awful and out of character filler the Anime does with this scene is astronomical.

Now we start going back to something closer to the real content of the Page 13:

They finally go outside and call him to come back.

Again, Sanji's expression is much nicer than the one shown to Luffy, and he is also at the front. In the Manga, he is in the back.

Luffy's expression is all wrong, again. He also comes out one of the lasts, when in the Manga that is not really the case.

Sanji and Chopper have also all gone from very intense expressions to neutral.

Finally, 14th Page:

The chapter reaches its painful ending, with Usopp doubling down on the duel idea.

In the Anime:

This is very close to being a 1:1 adaptation, if we take out Nami's reaction and everyone's positions and....... xDu

After this, the Anime Episode continues adapting scenes from the next Manga Chapter, but i don't have the energy or space to keep the analysis on this post xD

I hope you understand why i think the changes on this scene are so important in how different a Manga-reader and an Anime-watcher feel it. How different the characters are in one and the other.

And all the changes we just saw were completely unnecessary to do, and not approved by Oda... so... very very bad in my opinion.

And if they do all these changes with a scene so important like this one, what does that mean for the rest of the adaptation?

Well... you can imagine. Sometimes it feels like the only thing the Anime has in common with the Manga is the name ^^U

A cute time travel post-wano ZoLu fic! Real good, definitely a delectable read for any ZoLu fans. Maybe more so for main Zoro fans, because it's kinda Zoro-centric.

Let me start by saying I ADORE time travel fics. The possibilities they generate for angst are just *chef's kiss*. However, this is not an angsty fic, it's fluffy with the right dose of shenanigans for a 3.9K word work. Also, this is all my own subjective opinion, with no ill intentions to anyone, so please keep that in mind.

Now, spoilers for the fic and the Wano Arc ahead, BEWARE.

The way that old!Zoro knew from the start not to say anything because Luffy wouldn't want a boring adventure is SO on point! Robin deducing THEY got married because Nami officiated the wedding IS such a Robin thing to do, I love her so much.

AND JEALOUS YOUNG!LUFFY AAAHHH. I know we all know Zoro is DEVOTED to the man, but I really like it when people also show Luffy's possessiveness and adoration for Zoro. We do forget sometimes that Luffy WENT SEARCHING FOR HIS SWORDSMAN, ahh, I love them.

Oh! And jealous Sanji? Absolutely perfect. He CANNOT understand for the life of him why someone would choose anyone, LET ALONE ZORO, over Hancock. And to be fair, he has a point! Anyone not interested in men would absolutely pick Hancock over Zoro. Maybe even people interested in men would pick Hancock over Zoro. But this is not about any person. This is about Luffy and Zoro, and how it's always been just them!

It's just, really nice. Young!Luffy saying "ah, all right, you can keep it then!" EXCUSE ME?! This man was GOING TO TAKE OLD!ZORO'S RING?!!! What a petty thing to do, I love it. AND THE KNUCKLE KISS. THAT'S SO TERRIBLY DEVASTATING. IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE!!!! Young!Luffy's brain just shortcircuited right then and there, beautiful.

AND THE SCAR MOMENT!!! Can I get more appreciation for scar moments in ZoLu Fics? Like, you guys, scars work so different in the OP canon. We know these people have been stabbed, punched, and went through basically every hell imaginable and the number of scars canon to them is actually really low!!! Like, Zoro's got 4 (1 each foot, the chest, and the eye) and Luffy's got 2 (under the eye and chest). I like the theory that scars only appear when it's an emotionally cathartic moment, when some BIG FEELINGS happen.

So old!Zoro having a burn scar over his heart, matching with Luffy, can only mean so many things, you know? He is, once again, willing to lay down his life in exchange for Luffy's, and looks like it could've been on instinct, not something old!Zoro actually planned for. All the same though, 'cause THE MOMENT young!Luffy sees the scar Zoro Knows he's not going to like it. And the implication of Luffy killing Akainu in the future? Incredible, great!

Also, before I forget, and it was a short scene, merely a few dialogues, but I adore when people get Zoro's Conqueror's Haki to show. Like, honestly? I think about both Luffy and Zoro being Conquerors a lot, but the fic is not about that, so I won't delve too much into it. But the reaction of crew, as if they didn't expect him to have it? It just shows how much the crew (and a lot of the fans, let's be honest here) have internalized how down-bad Zoro is for Luffy, and so don't really see him as a leader.

The off-hand comments about Law are funny! Poor Law, stuck on a friendship with the Straw Hats that will transcend all their lifetimes, sucks to be you. They truly only do what they want, and Law's gotta deal with it, oh well! I just wanna know what Law was trying there? Like, man, how do you even fuck up a shambles that badly? Hold on, now that I think about it. It could've been just Zoro getting lost in the shambles. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest. And Law has to sort it out on his own lmao.

And we'll, the end? The younger versions of them confessing and holding each other?!!! AHHHHHHH It's great, fantastic, awesome. I just really liked the way Luffy's mannerisms came through, I know it's difficult to get them right, so the author did a great job there!!! If I might say something I wasn't the biggest fan of, was young!Luffy's hesitance when talking about their feelings. I'm just nitpicking here, it just doesn't match the way I picture Luffy in my head, but Luffy IS a hard character to portray, in any media, so once again, great work author. It ended sweetly so no harm done.

Now, young!Zoro's reaction to the old!crew? Incredible! He's just SO CONFUSED, old!Luffy might be taller than him! Sanji finally let his hair grow and Usopp's got muscles!!! (let's go Sanji and Usopp's character growth being reflected in their appearance, looking like they are most comfortable with, truly loving themselves) (sorry I just love them as well). The time young!Zoro spent in the future seemed so little in comparison, but it's really entertaining nonetheless.

And finally, when both Zoros are on their respective times, the conversations they have are just- I love my dumb funny pirates. Luffy's may be a bit dumb but he's not stupid!! He knew how to get Zoro to kiss him!!! I love a sly Luffy, even if only he and I think he's being sly. In the end, they are both no-nonsense, so they share a kiss rather sooner than later. Adorable, sweet ZoLu kisses that are just perfect to tie up their side of the story.

And now, the very last scene of the fic, ANOTHER SCAR MOMENT WOOOOOOO. They wake up in their bed many years later and suddenly there's not a burn scar anymore in old!Zoro's chest, and old!Luffy's reaction is also peak Luffy reaction. The tenderness they share, almost afraid it's a dream, agh, my heart!!! The time travel is actually able to change the future so they get to prevent 1 bad thing, and get 1 good thing before. I see this as an absolute win.

All and all, it was a very good fic, would recommend if you like sweet ZoLu stuff. It is well-written and made for a good insomnia past-time.

(You can't kill me) law kinda interrupts like 'if you would do the honour of cutting your argument short, we have to depart soon, and your captain is starting to gnaw on the grass out of sheer gluttonous hunger, so if everyone could get to their posts before your navigator's head starts erupting with lava, that'd be great' - Bro's just tired, man. He didn't ask for this shit. sanji's kinda bleary as he comes to and he's like 'first of all, why the hell have you bastards kidnapped me?! second of all, why am i tied to a chair?' - This wasn't intentional but now every time I go back to this all I can think of is Sam from TGWDLM goin "Charlotte, baby, where am I, why am I tied to a chair?" the dude's like 'alright, slow down swirlylocks' sanji's like '…my hair isn't swirly' the dude's like 'shut up.' - Guy just needed the pun, leave him be. the other three are kinda like oy vey and one's like 'go get that damn manual, you buffoon. you must'a did it all kinds'a wrong if the person you tied up is complaining about the quality of your work!' - He's trying his best, alright? sanji's like '…that's a porn book. the naked people are naked cause it's porn.' the dude's like 'ohhh…' then he's like 'oh!' and chucks the book/comic thing away - Egads! after a few seconds he can only kinda weakly mutter out 'you're gonna... pay for... this' before he blacks out again as they all laugh insert full house music - Everywhere you look, everywhere you go, there's a face, of somebody who needs you- the childhood friend dude shows up at the railing off'a like, idk a fucking jetski or some shit - probably just a boat idk - Guy's a little wacky with it, shit happens. the childhood friend dude raises an eyebrow and smirks bemusedly like 'seriously, you're a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an igneous, dude' - Literally just quoting mlp at this point, boys 👍

zoro's fuckin dumbfounded and is just kinda dimly like 'y… you said all that about me, cook?' sanji turns to face zoro and is still bright red like 'shut the fuck up right now or i'll shove my foot so far up your ass you'll think you grew a second spine and i'll be wearing your tiny, mossy brain like an anklet' zoro huffs an amused breath, although still a bit shell-shocked, while ray's like 'oh yeah, he also said that your shoes are untied' zoro looks down at his shoes like 'huh?' - 1. Ray's the 'childhood friend dude' 2. He listed off a bunch'a shit Sanji had told him in letters. 3. 🤨🤨 nami just puts up an a-okay sign like 'don't care, sanji' robin just smiles and goes 'i can say with utmost certainty that they are in fact pieces of clothing that you are currently wearing, sanji' - R.I.P then law just fuckin shows up outta nowhere and they're all like 'wtf' - Uh-oh, surprise Law event. law just kinda grimaces, briefly glancing at luffy who's sorta struggling like a cockroach - He's a creature. A li'l guy, if you will.

luffy just mopes like 'but namiiii~ it looked like food, and i was hungryyy' usopp's just exhasperated like 'it was clearly made of polystyrene' luffy's like 'so?!' usopp's like 'polystyrene is not food!' luffy's just like 'you don't know that! just cause it made me throw up doesn't mean it wasn't food! lots of things can make you throw up! lobsters, crabs, goats!' - Nothing will stop me from constantly referencing everything all the time. (The 'lobsters, crabs, goats' part is in reference to TTO). 'also who're you calling uptight and swirly?!' zoro gets annoyed as well, smirking, and they do the head bonk grr thing, like 'who do you think, ammonite brows? you've got a stick shoved so far up your ass it got lost and bent itself over your eyes!' - Oof. and it's just a bit like crackaboom uh oh we can't deal with this well - Hate when that happens. and the dude's like 'not much' then he calls over this servant or whatever from their gang and bites his fucking fingers off - Really hate when that happens. then his eye gets like, sparkles in it, and he straight up explodes - Lost another one 😔

and zoro just kinda looks at his ass then narrows his eyes sorta fry-like and goes 'mhm…' - I call this piece 'Contemplation of a posterior.', the bidding will start at [REDACTED] zoro's off to the side having heart palpitations or some shit - Bitches and their heart problems, I swear. usopp, luffy, chopper and franky are just annoyed screaming while sanji's like 'JUST DIE ALREADY!' - Zoro is no longer held in high esteem by the council. then sanji's got a gun in one hand and it's straight up in zoro's mouth and he's still gripping the robe with the other hand and he's like 'I'M TELLING YOU-' - The idea of everything being relatively normal before one character suddenly has a gun and is threatening another out of nowhere is a brain worm that I can't remove. snooj blush more die sink down floor dead zoor like wha - wha then sanji goes 'so how'd you meet levy?' gajeel's like '…' then kinda like '…i crucified her' and sanji's just like 'excuse me-' - And that's how I met your mother. sanji just groans in agony and slumps down further before melting into goo (lesgooooo) - Lesgooooo and they flip over to brook and rip his whole fucking outfit into two equal sides and he's like 'yoho?!' then tiny text 'oh my?!' - Oh my. then he does like that fist pump thing and exhaling out his nose komi-san style and he's confident < - fool - 🫵 Fool.

Sunday, August 14th

"We're called the Straw Hats, wanna join?"

Luffy ask with a huge smile on putting a straw hat on his head. 'Well the name makes sense'. You thought some more about Luffys strange request considering almost everyone just met you.

"Fuck it why not." You say shrugging your shoulders.

You were a pretty spontaneous person and you were always down to do anything if it were reasonable.

Luffy starts laughing and patting his knee like crazy "that's great welcome to the crew." He gleams with joy.

You laugh and smile thinking about how cool Luffy is. You're sitting at a big round table in what appears to be your guys dining room. To your left is Nami, to your right is Robin, and Luffy is sitting on the table facing you.

You've never seen anyone like Luffy before and he definitely surprises you the more that you get to know him. As you look away from Luffy you see a blonde haired man making googly eyes at you for a little too long.

"Soooo I'm Sanji and does a gorgeous woman like you have a name." He flirts.

"I'm Y/N L/N it's nice to meet you Sanji, you're not bad yourself."

Sanji isn't used to other women flirting back with him so he has an instant nosebleed reaction which lands him on the floor muttering "She called me handsome."

A green haired man walks in with an adorable looking raccoon on his shoulder.

"Get off the floor you curly eyebrowed freak." He growls.

"Screw you moss head." Sanji barks back getting up.

You direct your attention to this apparent moss head, observing him 'he's cute' you thought but before can say anything you see this cute looking raccoon on his right shoulder and suddenly you jump up with excitement

"OMG he is soooo cute, what's your name and what are you?"

He gleams "Awe silly you don't have to call me that, it's not like it's makes me happy or anything." This makes you laugh harder.

"His name is Chopper, Tony Tony Chopper and he's a reindeer, I'm Roronoa Zoro."

He extends a hand for you to shake and you gladly do so. He looks you up and down almost either admiring your figure or he's giving you a mental background check.

You blush deciding to be delusional and think he's checking you out.

"I'm Y/N L/N, it's nice to meet both of you" you smile.

He nods and then looks over at Usopp who is sitting on the couch playing a video game on the PS5.

"Ya Usopp you tryna run and get some saké with me," Usopp gets up and turns off the playstation.

"You only want me to go with you cause you'll get lost even with the GPS."

Usopp was the first to greet you when you walked into the house and of course he didn't fail to mention that he's some famous 'sniper king' and great inventor. You thought Usopp was also cute with his slick back, big puffy ponytail, and broad chest, it definitely made him look attractive in your opinion.

"Can you take me or not long nose."

Zoros voice agitated cause he's ready to drink. Usopp was gonna say no at first but then he remembered he needed to get something from the store anyway.

Usopp directs his attention over to you, "Hey Y/N do you smoke because I sell" pointing his fingers at you like he's trying to sell a product with a big grin.

"Okayy plug Usopp and yeah I do actually I had to bring my dap pen cause ya know can't have weed on the plane," your response sounded quirky; showing everyone your pink bedazzled dap pen.

"Wow you're definitely a girl," you hear Zoro say looking at your dap pen.

"Hey what is that supposed to mean, I think it's rather cute, it's very me." With a small pout and chuckle.

At this point Luffy is laughing uncontrollably, he might've took an edible earlier cause he laughing more than usual. Nami gets up from her seat and comes up behind Zoro hitting him in the back of head.

"SHUT UP ZORO, don't listen to him Y/N I think it's cute, do you think you can make me one?"

Your mouth is agape trying to not laugh at what just happened. Zoro mutter something under his breath walking to sit on the couch.

"Of course I can Nami, what about you Robin?"

Robin smiles "No thanks I don't smoke I prefer a nice drink with a book, I guess you could call me boring."

Sanji out of nowhere, "There is nothing wrong with you Robin, you are perfect the way you are my sweet beautiful gorgeous angel."

At this point everyone is dying laughing not phased by Sanjis antics. For the rest of the night you guys basically had an initiation for you since you just joined the Straw Hat crew. You guys drank and smoked some weed until you all retired to bed.

A/N I decided to not write Brook, Franky, and Jimbe into the book cause I wasn't sure how they would fit.

Timeskip~

You are sharing a room with Nami and Robin, after a long night of getting to know your new friend group and hearing about everyone's passion and devil fruit/speacial abilities. Also, seeing Luffy get the size of a house from eating all of Sanjis cooking was something you'll never forget. You all decided to head to sleep because you all had class in the morning.

To your surprise you, Nami, and Robin all have first semester Chemistry together as well as Intro to Greek Mythology. It made you happy to able to meet such kind people because you didn't receive much kindness growing up; you were bullied a lot as a kid.

You were heading to sleep but you couldn't help but think about your passion and dreams of traveling the whole world; spreading joy to people around the world whether it be through music or spiritual healing.

Your mom knew you ate a rare and powerful paramecia devil fruit...The Blood Blood Fruit giving you the ability to control peoples bodies using their blood, you can also use your own or other peoples blood as defense when you have to fight.

With your power you can take lives and save lives making you rather important and an asset to the world government. If you had to choose you'd do everything in your power to protect those who couldn't protect themselves.

Your family spent years on the run before finding a Ping Fort Island in the North Blue, hiding from the World Government. Your mom did a good job of concealing your identity by making it seem like you died while traveling and changing your last name in order to get the World Government off your back, which is why you were able to have a simple life living in Ping Fort Island.

You roll over in your bed thinking about the episode from your childhood that led to you eating that damn fruit when you were younger and your family was living on the East Blue.

Flashback~

You were just a kid living on the East Blue with your mom, dad, and baby sister with big hopes and dreams. You were a shy kid who had a hard time making friends because you lacked social skills. But, there were three little boys in your village who would pick on you quit often.

Back then you didn't know how to fight or speak up for yourself so you would let them bully you. One day the boys took you deep into the forest. But before they left you they shoved a devil fruit down your throat and they told you to find your way back. You couldn't find your way back to the village and you were scared; missing for two days.

You ended up making your way back to the village and your parents were worried sick. When you saw the boys again you were angry but, they didn't care. They kept harassing and picking on you until you let your anger boil up and go too far. Let's just say one of the boys had his arm blown off without you even touching him.

Everyone in your village was scared of you which made you an interest for the world government because one of the boys snitched on you to his parents who told the world government. Your family escaped the island sometime later but, ever since leaving the East Blue you haven't been the same since. The light had been gone from your eyes for a long time but, you just recently was able to gain it back.

Currently no one else knows about your ability other than your family. Not even your best friend knows about your devil fruit, so you're even more scared that the straw hats might want to kick you out the crew if they learn about you. As you're thinking about tomorrow you ended up fall asleep and having a nightmare about losing control with your powers and hurting the people you love.

The Morning~

You decided to wear a pink mini skirt, white crop top and black chunky hightop sneakers (ya know with the thick white lace). You had some gold jewelry on with your gold necklace that had your name on it. you had light makeup on with a brown lip and gloss combo and you put your hair up in a cute style (your choice of style and I feel like Y/N got a belly piercing).

You were sitting at the table eating some bacon and eggs that you requested from Sanji, "Damn you can cook Sanji, that's very attractive." you flirt making Sanji blush and practically faint to the floor. You started giggling but, he soon got up when he realized that it's almost time for you guys to head out and Sanji wasn't even ready cause he kept gawking at you.

Today was your first day of class and it's current 7:45 am both, you and Sanji have class at 8am. Sanji offered to walk you to class but you declined because you didn't want him to get the wrong idea. You did however have him drop you off close to the building your class was in.

As soon a you got out the car Sanji didn't hesitate to roll down his window and start screaming "Y/N my love." you could hear him getting ready to embarrass you some more in front of everyone looking at you. So as you're walking you decide to close your eyes and imagine Sanjis body, the warmth of his skin and his blood coursing through him it struck a happy nerve in you knowing how warm his body was.

I had a stressful week and , deeply hoped if you could make a story for..me?.

By that I mean, Y/n met Luffy since they were children and Y/n was like a complete opposite of Luffy - shy and quite person. They were always together and she also joined Strawhats. Y/n had a ability to control water and anything that has water in it.

But, one day - she followed Luffy at Marinford and saved him, Ace and all pirates by sacrifising herself in battle.

However, after 3 months - in Luffy's room Strawhats find a little lake that was slowly transformed into someting really similar to Y/n. After 2 weeks - In the morning, Sanji met Y/n alive , breathing and siting in the chair then asked "Can you please make me a coffee as always ,Sanji?"

(Y/N) have been friends with Luffy since they were children. It was surprising to the crew how they even became friends. (Y/N) was the complete opposite of Luffy. She was shy, always keeping to herself, and very quiet. The crew sometimes like to make jokes that she was forced into the crew, like some of the other crew members, but she always declines their thoughts. She tells the story of how she and Luffy met.

She sat in the woods, writing in her journal. That’s when she met Luffy. He popped out of nowhere and continually asked her questions. She never answered the questions, too scared to talk with the random boy she hardly knew. But he never left her alone. Since then, they’ve gotten to talk to each other, and became the best of friends. They care for each other deeply.

When Luffy wanted to leave home and find the One Piece, she would ask him if she could come with. He refused, scared that something would happen to her since it was a dangerous journey. He wouldn’t be able to handle it if something were to happen to her. But she wouldn’t give up. SHe had a good reason to go along. She could protect him and herself with her water abilities. She can control water around her however she pleases, which can be very powerful. She told him that she would never leave him behind. She’d stick with him till the very end.

And at the very end, she was.

One day, they had to go to Marinford. But it wasn’t just to visit. There was a battle, and (Y/N) broke her promise with Luffy to go and help. They were in trouble, and she had to help them. At this point, nobody would win in the battle. SHe had to get them out of there, and fast. But the only way she could think of was to use her water abilities. They were by the ocean, so she used her full strength to summon the water and wash away her friends back to the boat. But she had to stay behind. Because of this, she was left on the battlefield, catching herself in an enemy attack.

She sacrificed herself for her friends.

For many months, the crew were disarray. They’ve never seen Luffy so depressed in their life. And surprisingly, Luffy came out of his room with an emotion they never thought they’d see.

“Guys! I saw something!”

“What was it?” Zoro asks.

“The cup of water in my room… it was moving! And it formed into the shape of a girl! It has to be (Y/N)! She’s the only one who can do it.” He seemed scared more than anything. The crew offered to look around the boat and area to see if they could find her.

But there was no luck.

A few weeks later, something unimaginable happened.

“Hey there, Sanji.”

“Hey.” Sanji greeted back without even looking up from the floor. He was doing his normal routine, setting up the kitchen for breakfast. Usually, at this time, nobody would be in the kitchen but him. He looked up, thinking it was Nami from the familiar female voice. But it wasn’t.

“(Y/N)?!” He almost fell to the ground. He figured he was hallucinating. HIs friend was dead, there’s no way she’d be here now. But she was sitting there, not disappearing. She was breathing. She sat there in the flesh.

“Could you get me a coffee? You know, the usual?” She smiled, but her eyes looked tired. Her hair was a bit longer, and she had scratches on her body that were never there before she died.

He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He ran out onto the deck, yelling for everyone to come see. And when everyone arrived in the kitchen, they were frozen in shock.

“Morning, guys. Long time no see?”

Luffy didn’t know what to do. He stood there for a full five minutes. Seconds later, he’s wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug. She was trying to gasp for air, lightly tapping his shoulder to say that she couldn’t breathe.

(Y/N) knew that they would be furious with her actions. But she also knew that they would forgive her. After all, she was forced to join the enemy crew. They kept her being alive a secret. But now… now she was here with her friends, with her crew. She was glad she took the risk to escape.

Earlier that day, an old lady told Nami that whichever path Luffy chose would always lead to another Winter Island. So with the end of the year approaching and the cold weather, you decided to play Secret Davy Treasure, a great South Blue tradition.

It consisted of the participants writing their names on a piece of paper, mixing them in a bowl - or Luffy's hat - and drawing them. Whoever’s name you picked is who you will buy or make a Secret Davy Treasure.

You should have guessed that even something that sounded so simple would be complicated in the Thousand Sunny. The crew didn´t seem to understand nor follow the rules of physics, reality, and the game.

At first, Zoro folded his paper with his name on the outside; then Brook picked himself and didn´t tell anyone. Now you were struggling with Luffy, who couldn´t pick one because A) he wanted to know what was written inside, and B) he wanted to pick more than one.

While Franky, Usopp, and Chopper yelled at him, trying to make him understand, Brook laughed at the whole situation, and the rest of you wished to die and get reborn as clams.

Sanji adjusted the blanket around your bodies and hugged you tighter, chatting until the commotion was over.

¨Will you tell me?¨ he blew some smoke, and you tilted your head to look at him.

¨Tell what?¨

¨Who you got.¨

¨What? Of course no!¨ you laughed ¨This is not how you play it!¨

¨But we are a couple, Y/N-chan!¨

¨.., and?¨ you sang the word.

¨We shouldn't keep secrets from each other!¨

A cloud of white smoke came out of your mouth when you giggled before snuggling deeper in his arms.

¨Okaay,¨ Usopp crawled closer to you, defeated and holding Luffy´s hat ¨he will be the last one.¨

Despite your captain yelling that he should be the first to pick, you were all getting tired and opted to ignore him.

¨Thanks!¨ you used the blanket to cover yourself as you unfolded it.

A chuckle left your mouth when you saw the name written, and the blonde behind you tried to peek over your shoulder. But you were faster to put the piece of paper with the name of your boyfriend inside your bra.

You turned and gave him a peck on the cheek while he pouted.

You would have one week to come up with a Davy Treasure for Sanji, and you knew exactly what to do, but some butterflies still flew in your belly, wondering if he would like it.

As a matter of fact, he loved everything you did, from sweet love to extremely salty culinary disasters. He would find perfection in every little thing done by you.

Enjoying your last days on the island of Snow Globe Pole - yeah, almost as bad as ¨Long Ring Long Land¨ - you decided to tour the city, looking for what you needed to make your gift. Or rather, to crochet your gift.

That was the easy part, for you were on a winter island, yarn and wool were pretty abundant. Every style possible of every possible color, anything that crossed your mind was available in the store. It would have been distracting if you didn´t have the colors already chosen.

But again, so much for an innocent game. So much for a bit of fun. So naive to believe that Sanji would stop asking you whom you picked.

In his defense, he had gotten calmer during the first night. But after seeing the bag you brought from the store, he became even more annoying.

Charming, loving, but still annoying.

¨It´s not Franky, right? His hands wouldn´t fit in it.¨

¨His regular-sized-robotic-mannequin hands would.¨ you looked at him with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.

You could almost see the gasp stuck in his throat and his heart skipping a beat.

After that, he kept bringing you desserts, offering massages, and doing everything in his power to bribe you. Skypiea Sanji was not the real Love Ordeal. Secret Davy Treasure Sanji was the real Love Ordeal.

¨Sanji,¨ you sighed ¨I love you, but if you don´t stop, I will be forced to throw your cigarettes in the ocean and straighten your eyebrows.¨

He grumbled ¨I love you¨ back among some other things and marched to the kitchen with flames on the top of his head. You chuckled and went back to your colorful wools.

Before you chose his gift, you thought about Sanji and the things that he liked or needed. From cooking to smoking and women.

Cooking for him would be outrageous. You wanted to give him something amazing, and you couldn't compare to him in the kitchen. At all.

Women. You were the only woman he wanted and needed, and honestly, you were the woman for the job.

Now, smoking. You would not buy or make him cigarettes, obviously. But he had this adorable and clumsy thing of always burning the tips of his mittens whenever he lit a cigarette.

Because of that, you decided to crochet him one of those fingerless gloves that come with a mitten flap so he could cover his fingers once he was done. Like that, he would be warm and natural disaster-free.

¨There is orange, Y/N-chan! You got Nami, right?!¨ you jumped and almost stabbed yourself with the hook when he yelled in your ear.

¨Oh, my sweet Davy Jones, give me strength...¨ you whispered ¨There is also purple, Sanji-kun. It could be Brook or Robin.¨

He pondered over it a little, frowned, and made his way to the door.

¨Hey!¨ he turned with sad puppy eyes ¨Is this really important to you? To know who I got?¨ he nodded.

You gestured with your head, telling him to come closer. A big and bright smile appeared on his face, and your heart beat stronger. That smile, you would punch the Red Line broken to create another All Blue for that smile.

Oh, how you love this cook.

¨Ok! Just because I am asking I´ll tell you first, ok?¨ he spoke with a lower voice but still sparkly. You smiled and nodded. ¨I got Chopper! And I bought him a new backpack with a lot of compartments for his medical stuff.¨

The way he paid attention to the tiny details made you melt. He was always taking care of others, complimenting the crew - except Zoro - and celebrating even the smallest of the successes.

He showed you the blue backpack, very similar to Chopper´s current one, but a lot stronger, prettier, and more practical. He would love it, no doubts.

¨Well,¨ you began ¨I got... Usopp.¨

You felt terrible about telling him a lie, but you couldn´t spoil your surprise.

¨Since we´re going to winter islands, I don´t want his finger to get tangled when, Uhm... he´s picking his Ketchup Stars, Green Stars, or Let´s-scare-creepy-girls-to-death Stars. I really hope he likes it.¨

If you were not paying enough attention, you would have missed Sanji´s disappointed look, which he quickly hid with a kind smile.

¨You always think about everything, Y/N-chan. He will love it.¨ he kissed your forehead and went back to the kitchen.

You waited until he closed the door to cringe ¨You are going to hell, Y/N.¨

Finally, the Secret Davy Treasure day arrived. You would exchange gifts and then have a nice dinner if Luffy didn´t make a party out of it. He definitely would.

But you were also grateful that today was the day. Since you told Sanji that you had picked Usopp, he has been acting a little upset. The other guys didn´t notice, but you did.

You would always notice. And you had an idea why.

The gift exchanging rules were pretty simple. The Secret Davy had to offer information about the person receiving the treasure, and the others had to guess.

It started with Usopp, whose Secret Davy was Franky. He gave him a bunch of super tools and some colored light bulbs for the ¨Party Nipple¨ idea.

Franky´s Secret Davy was Robin. He gave her a journal with waterproof pages he created.

Robin´s Secret Davy was you, and she presented you with a beautiful copy of a fictional adventure book since you were always reading them on the ship.

Then it was your turn. You held the gift wrapped in a shiny blue paper and began to describe your Secret Davy.

¨My Secret Davy is... slightly annoying sometimes.¨

¨It´s the stupid-eyebrow.¨ Zoro said.

¨Shut up, marimo head!¨

You continued after Nami punched them. ¨My Secret Davy always takes care of us.¨

¨It´s Chopper!¨ you shook your head.

¨Hmm... my Secret Davy is an exceptional fighter! Really strong!¨

¨It´s me!¨

¨No, Zoro! It´s me! I will become the Pirate King!¨

¨Shut up, you two!¨

¨My Secret Davy is...¨ you looked at Sanji and smiled ¨... loving and caring.¨

He looked back at you, confused. Why would you say those about Usopp? Not that he wasn´t loving and caring, but... still.

¨My Secret Davy is... the man of my dreams, the prince of my fairy tale, and the love of my life.¨

A minute or two passed while everyone waited for Sanji to say something, but he remained frozen with a perplexed expression.

¨Sanji-san, I think the treasure is yours.¨ Brook said calmy.

The cook made his way to you slowly, taking the gift from your hands and opening it gently, without tearing the wrapping.

Did he get upset because of your lie?

¨Sanji...¨ you called him, but he kept staring at the gloves.

You saw his eyes fill with water before he excused himself and exited the deck, leaving everyone staring at you.

¨I don´t... I´m gonna...¨ you pointed and left too.

When you entered your room, he was standing, back turned to you. Was he really crying, or you saw things?

¨Sanji-kun?¨

¨You remembered...¨ he turned around, still holding the mittens ¨These colors...¨

¨Yeah, they don´t really match, but...¨

¨I wanted it so much, Y/N. When I saw it, I wanted it so much.¨

He rushed in your direction and hugged you tight. He hugged you and you felt all his emotions, you felt the weight he carried in his heart. Not a bad weight, just the weight of missing someone you love.

You knew that that was the reason he was pestering you so much, the colors. You had chosen the colors that Zeff, Sanji´s mentor, wore.

The fingers were orange and purple, like his striped shirt. You added yellow details of his hair; the blue of his ascot, and the white of his apron.

As you said, they didn´t match, but apparently, Sanji didn´t care.

He would always share stories about their lives and cook recipes that Zeff taught him. Despite him always calling him old man or damn geezer, the Red Leg was his father.

¨Thank you, Y/N-chan. I loved it.¨

The sound of him sniffing made you hold him stronger.

¨I miss that damn geezer.¨

¨I´m sure he misses you too, Little Eggplant.¨

¨Oi!¨

You squeaked and laughed when he threw on the bed.

Take me with you...

This is a side of their relationship that I really love. Oda likes to show their genuine consideration for each other either when one is unconcious or not present. But this here tells me that they surely will go wherever if one is in danger.

After Little Garden, Nami got extremely sick and they didn’t know either the cause or how deadly/ serious it is exactly. All they knew is that her life is in danger and that they needed a doctor asap.

In Zou, Sanji got taken away to a forced arranged marriage and they didn’t know if he will ever come back or if they will ever see him again. Even though his poster says “Only Alive”, Nami, Chopper and Brook treated the situation as if Sanji’s life is in danger unlike Luffy or Zoro.

Is there a better way to start off these arcs?

Nami’s sickness is the reason Drum Kingdom arc happened, they were supposed to head to Alabasta as fast as possible, because it is not in their hands to choose. We start off with Sanji crying in worrying about Nami’s health.

Sanji’s blackmailing is the reason WCI happened, they were supposed to head to Zou as soon as possible, because Kaido was targetting them and they had no choice. We start off with Nami’s tears in worrying about Sanji’s whereabouts and the shadiness that happened.

Before reaching Drum Kingdom while Nami is sick, first we see Zoro failing miserably in keeping track of the ship’s direction (surprise surprise), but after that comes Sanji and takes that spot in which they succeed in locating the island. Sanji did a good job watching the sea.

Before reaching WCI while Sanji is captured, first we see Luffy failing miserably trying to cook for his crew. He wasted a ton of fresh food and came up with inedible food, but after that comes Nami to take that job and following Sanji’s recipe and instructions was able to cook an amazing meal for the crew. Nami did a wonderful job cooking.

The Captain took it upon himself to find a doctor for Nami since his ship does not have one. He heard that the witch doctor lives in the castle up the unbelievably high mountain in the extreme weather conditions. The plan was that he will carry her all the way up himself.

A member of his crew is being forced to leave his ship (against his will). Yet again, the Captain took it upon himself to go there alone to talk to Sanji and crash that wedding if he has to. He is ready to fight anybody be it a Yonko, an extremely strong opponent, for his nakama.

Out of all the other members, 3 in total (Vivi included), only one was highly concerned to the point he couldn’t leave it to the Captain alone. He couldn’t wait to hear the news if she got better or not. He couldn’t wait like Ussop and Vivi for them to come back. “Alright, I’ll be coming along too!” he said....

Out of all the other members, 6 in total, only one was worried enough to go with the Captain to learn more about his ties and past (Zoro was concerned about the crew’s safety because they are being targeted by 2 yonko(s), he wasn’t worried too much about Sanji cuz he knows he can handle himself). She couldn’t stand to wait around when they should be on the move. She was the first to announce her decision, “I am going with you of course!! I feel responsible.” she said...

It was thanks to Sanji that Luffy took the situation seriously, or should I say “more seriously” than before. Luffy didnt know how dire the situation is, he didnt know if she drops once “she is dead”, if he fights “she dies”. Sanji was there to make sure that doesnt happen. Nami would have died in Luffy’s hands if it weren’t for Sanji.

It was thanks to Nami that Luffy started to think more. It was thanks to her that they arrived in time. Luffy didnt know the importance of the time, she knew it was “dire”, that they can be “too late”. But the question is too late for what? As we said, at this point his poster says “Only Alive”. We didnt even know about Big Mom’s plan at that point in time. All we know about and Nami knows about is that there is a Wedding... (am I making stuff up? The manga is out there you can read it yourself.) It is safe to say Sanji would have left the crew and gotten married (and died) if it weren’t for Nami dragging Luffy around.

When she woke up, she was concerned about the two who risked their lives to bring her here.

He was stunned and nervous to see the two who are currently risking their lives for him at that moment (he didnt know about any other members...he only saw both of them)

It is after they risked their lives without knowing how truly life-threatening the situation is for that person, that it is revealed that their lives were indeed at risk...

Just the mere thought of losing / parting the other was enough of a reason for them to face hardship and hell.

Just a bonus that doesnt really mean anything, unless it does but we dont know it (jk):

These arcs are also the only arcs where we see Luffy “carrying” Sanji AND Nami alone. I put it in quotes because clearly in WCI these where clones but Oda’s choice is quite sophisticated to say the least.

I also found a couple more, but I want to avoid anything that may sound like reaching. PLUS, I believe this is more than enough to prove a point.

Strawberry Kisses

Summary: The reader has new Chapstick and Sanji can’t figure out the new flavor.

Notes: tbh I’m not sure how I feel about this but imma post it anyways. When I was writing it I was reading Host Club sooo Sanji might act a bit like Tamaki because I can’t help see them as the same person 😭

It’s the same routine for every morning. Sanji would wake up early to cook breakfast for the crew while he leaves his lover asleep. He would love to wake her up to have someone to talk to this early in the morning but he knows well enough not to wake Y/n this early in the morning. The blonde cook lingers in bed for a moment longer looking down at his sleeping lover. They didn’t have a big bed but that didn’t seem to matter, they were all upon each other. Y/n was curled up into his chest while one of his arms draped over her hip. It was a good thing the 2 of them don’t move much when they sleep. Sanji pulled her closer and watched her steady breathing. Her h/c hair was an absolute mess and her mouth hung open, leaving a small trail of drool onto the pillow. Saying she looked like a mess would be an understatement but that what he loves about her.

Sanji felt so bad leaving. He didn’t want to leave her alone but someone’s gotta cook the food for their rowdy crew. With one last squeeze, which caused a small groan to escape from Y/n’s lips, Sanji softly kissed her exposed forehead and finally began to his day. An hour without Y/n is never that bad. And soon enough an hour came and gone like it was nothing. One by one his crew mates began to fill the kitchen. Sanji finished up the last of the food preparation, making sure to leave a small port soon to the side for Y/n. She’s always the last one to wake up in the morning, and because the food never last longer than 5 minutes, he always make sure Y/n has food before anyone else. Y/n finally made it to the lively kitchen, upon seeing her still half asleep mood his face lit up. She just as beautiful as ever, even if her hair looks like it hasn’t been brushed in days. Sleep still clouded her actions as she stumbled her way to the hip of her lover. It took her a while for her eyes to adjust but once they did and landed on Sanji, her face lit up.

“Mornin’!” Y/n giggled, pressing herself up against the male wanting to feel his body warmth again. Sanji scoffed at the action as her took on of his arms and snaked it around her waist.

“Did you sleep well, princess?” Sanji questioned as he leaded down and gave her a small peck on her lips. Y/n scrunched up her nose for the early morning touch before she smiled and returned the peck.

“Amazing, as always.” She sighed, wiggling out of his grasp so she can finally eat breakfast. The 2 of them has been dating for a while. And of course, that doesn’t mean didn’t have a rocky start. With Sanji’s obsession with girls it was bound the be a struggle. Luckily, the love Y/n felt for him was strong enough to look past it. They had worked though it and seeing how Sanji‘s obsession with girls isn’t gonna stop anytime soon, Y/n trust Sanji not to do anything (thankfully Y/n doesn’t get jealous easily either). Surprisingly, it’s been smooth sailing so far, give or take.

With Sanji being a passionate lover and all, it was also no surprise that he knew almost everything about Y/n. From her favorite foods (duh) to her secrets to and even when it was her time of the month. It was creepy but in a nice way. And so it’s safe to say that he also knows what her kisses taste like. In the morning her kisses always taste like mint because of the chapstick she puts on after brushing her teeth. It was probably the best thing in the world to the lovesick cook, he had easily got use to it when they started dating. However this morning was different, she didn’t taste like the normal mint, she tasted fruity. His blue eyes trailed over to his lover who now sat at the table with the others, talking about todays plans. With the flavor still lingering on his lips, he continued to try and figure out what the flavor could be. His eyes watched as her glossed lips curled into a smile, as if she was teasing him. Taking a moment to try and figure out what the flavor is himself, he let out a soft hum as he joined Y/n at the table. At first she didn’t bother to look over seeing how she was enjoying her conversation with Usopp and Nami, but once Sanji’s large hand rested on her thigh, she glanced over at him. Sanji did not waste a minute, once Y/n looked over at Sanji, he attcked her lips once again. She let out a small yelp from the sudden action and placed her hand on his chest to try and push him back.

Nami and Usopp, who were both having a conversation with Y/n simply rolled their eyes at the couple before continuing their conversation without her. It common to find Sanji doing those type of things. Random kisses and hugs, random burst of ‘I love you’, cheesy date nights. It doesn’t take a genius to learn he’s a hopeless romantic. Of course that doesn’t stop the crew from reacting themselves. Zoro would complain about it, Nami and Usopp would yell at him for when he gets to cheesy, or when he makes Y/n embarrass, or does it at an inapporapte time, and Robin, Franky and Brook would always comment on how flustered Y/n ends up getting. Even if it does annoy the others and makes Y/n embarrassed sometimes, they all know he means well. Finally Y/n efforts of pushing against him payed off. Sanji finally back off of Y/n giving her space and her mouth back so she can eat. Catching her breath, Y/n looked at Sanji with her eyebrow raised, “What’s this about?”

“Your chapstick...It’s different.” Sanji muttered, trying to focus on the flavor. He was a cook for god’s sake and he can’t even figured out a the flavor of Y/n chapstick even if it is artificially flavored. Adrianna saw the look of confusion on his face as he was deep in thought. It was rare to see Sanji like this, normally he would swoon over it and make those weird faces but this time was different. His swirled eyebrows furrowed together and his blue eyes staring at her lips, hoping to get an answer. It was one of the very rare moments when Sanji’s actually cute.

“Yeah, I ran out of the other one. You like it?” Y/n giggled, as she turned back to her food.

“I’m not sure. What flavor is it?”

“Hmm.” Y/n hummed wondering if she should tell him or not. There were pros and cons of telling him and not telling him. If she doesn’t tell him then she can see this rare cute side of Sanji that she doesn’t get the see often but if she doesn’t tell him then she has no idea what is gonna happen if she doesn’t. The last time Y/n tried, keyword tried, to tease Sanji they end in the bedroom for the rest of the night. It safe to say it was a long night that night. But on the other hand, Y/n doesn’t get to see Sanji cute like this often, so even if they end up in the bedroom, it would be worth. A small smirk played on her lips as she looked back up and Sanji, “I’m not telling..”

Y/n was surprised she was able to last this long. Ever since Y/n brought up the challenge, it was like every chance Sanji got the 2 of them were kissing. When they pass each on the ship, when Y/n asks for a glass of water, even when she was in the middle of training he found some way and excuse to kiss her. What really got to her the most was she never knows what type of kiss it was gonna be: small and quick or deep and passionate. If she knew he was gonna be the egar to figure it out she would’ve just told him. Luckily lunch was right around the corner so Sanji had to spend time preparing food for the others, leaving Y/n alone for a while, even if it’s only 30 minutes. The h/c colored girl was more than happy to take this time to relax with Nami and Robin. Nami was sunbathing and Robin was reading, Y/n also wanted to join Robin in reading however the book she picked laid in her lap, untouched. Instead all she ended up doing it staring off into the distance running a finger along her lips.

“...I think they’re swollen.” Y/n muttered to herself as she dropped her hand to her side and laid down. She clearly bit off more than she can chew. Y/n meant to keep the comment to herself seeing how she got herself into this mess yet Robin clearly heard her.

“Are you feeling ok, Y/n?” She glanced over at her younger friend and questioned. Noticing that Y/n seemed to be lost and thought, Robin didn’t want to bother her so she went back to reading her book until Y/n let out a heavy sign.

“My lips are swollen and it’s only noon. This is not how I’d imagine it.” Y/n explained as she looked over to the other girls.

“You’re dating Sanji, how did you think it was gonna go?” Nami scoffed as she lifted up her sunglasses and looked over at Y/n. Nami was right, she should’ve expected this from the ero-cook but she couldn’t help herself; Sanji looked to cute.

“I know, I know. But Sanji just looked so cute. I mean, when was the last time he looked cute and didn’t make those stupid faces. and plus he knows everything about me, so you can’t blame me for wanting to keep at least one thing a secret from him.” Y/n defeaned then pointed to her lips and exclaimed, “But I never wanted this!!”

“Someone as naïve as you should not be dating someone like Sanji.” Nami shook her head. Her brown eyes had quickly fallen on the certain blonde cook as he made his way over to the 3 of them. Before he approached them he put out his cig and shoved his hand back into his pocket, fiddling with something. Y/n who was leaning back into her chair with her eyes closed didn’t even hear him approach them. Only when Sanji had pushed a few piece of hair out of her face did she jolt awake. Seeing his blue eyes, Y/n took a defensive state waiting to see if he was gonna kiss her again. A soft chuckle left his lips before he looked over at the girls and fell right back into character.

“Nami-sawnn~~ Robin-chwann~~ Lunch is ready~!!” Sanji swooned as he spun in front of the 2. They glanced over at Y/n for a moment but then back at Sanji. Thanking him, they left the 2 alone on the main deck. It was probably the best thing to do for now. Seeing the smirk on his lips when he looked over at Y/n and the way he played with something in his pocket, Nami and Robin had figured that Sanji had finally found the answer to his question. Robin let out a soft giggle while Nami sighed heavily as they made their way to the kitchen. Once the 2 had left the couple alone, Sanji took a seat next to Y/n. She watched him with a close eye, making sure he doesn’t pull a fast one. He let out a chuckle as he finally pulled out what he was playing with in his pocket. Y/n raised an eyebrow as she eyed the object but it didn’t take long before her fact lit up with relief.

“Underneath our pillows is not the best hiding spot.” Sanji stated, placing the tube of chapstick onto the table next to them. “Oh thank god! I was scared you were never gonna find it and this game was gonna go on all day.” Y/n let out a heavy sigh as she adjusted herself in her seat, “Just for the record we are never doing that again.”

“You were the one who started it?”

“Yeah I know, and I was stupid. If you kissed me anymore my lips were gonna fall off.” Y/n pointed to her red swollen lips, “Look. They’re all swollen. Now imma have to put Chopper’s nasty medicine on them.”

“Ohh~ but I couldn’t help myself, Y/n-chwann~~!! Your lips are just so soft and cute~~!!” Sanji swooned as he engulfed Y/n into a hug. She let out a shreak from the sudden hug. As much as Y/n loves Sanji, she is so over him today. From all the kisses Y/n wanted more than to be left alone for a day or 2, however Y/n knows she just can’t get rid of Sanji that easily. Maybe that’s what she loves him so much because no matter what Sanji’s always there, whether she wants him to be or not. From kisses, to laying in bed together, to just enjoying each others company, he’s always with her. Even though Y/n was annoyed with him, she couldn’t help but smile as she squirmed against him.

“S-sanji let go. I wanna eat my food before Luffy does.” Y/n laughed, trying to break free from his grip. However, he wasn’t gonna let go anytime soon.

“You know I always save you a plate.” Sanji loosed his grip on Y/n as his hands fell down to her waist. She decided to stop squirming against him and just enjoy his warmth. They sat in silence for a moment, simply just enjoying each other company and listening to the waves crash against the ship. Moment like these were always the best to Y/n. Doing nothing and just enjoying each other presences, however, seeing how it’s lunch time, Y/n just wants to eat. She squirmed against him once again finally telling him to let go. Y/n had wasted no time making her way to the kitchen either, with Sanji following close behind her.

“So..” Y/n started, grabbing Sanji’s attention. The hum from him had told Y/n she could continue, “Which flavor did you like better?”

“Hmm...” Sanji trailed off, trying to remember the flavor of mint. He was used to the minty flavor but the new fruity flavor wasn’t bad either. Y/n looked up at Sanji trying to read is facial expression to get a hint or something to see what flavor to get next time. Before she could even process the look on his face, Sanji dipped down again and capture Y/n’s glossed lips once again. She gasped once again, surprised that Sanji kissed her again even after she told him her lips were swollen. Luckily the kiss didn’t last long, Sanji pulled back and licked his lips, tasting the flavor of artificial strawberry. Y/n puffed out her cheeks in frustration from the kiss while Sanji finally gave his answer.

“The strawberry flavor isn’t bad. I like that one.” Sanji answered as the 2 of them stopped right in front of the kitchen door.

“M’kay.” Y/n nodded, noting the information, “Good then because after today I'm only gonna switch between these 2.”

“Huh? Your not gonna change it again?” Sanji asked, sounded disappointed.

“Of course not.” Y/n stated as if was common sense. He let out a disappointed sigh at the fact that he wont be able to kiss Y/n that much again but now that he thinks about it, he probably did take it a bit over board. He had good intentions though. Y/n spun around on her heel and faced the door but right before opening it, she glnaced back at Sanji and added on, “Oh and to let my lips heal, not kissing for 2 days. At least!”

“Whaa-! 2 days!? But Y/n-chwan I can’t do that. I gotta kiss you.”

“Well you should’ve thought about before you kissed me every 5 minutes today. You probably have enough kisses from me to last 4 weeks.”

An Observation pt. 2 (Zoro x Luffy)

“Together,” Luffy said as he looked over at Zoro with a more tender, uncharacteristic smile. Maybe... just maybe Zoro’s observation was wrong.

Warnings: None

Synopsis: Observations and preconceived notions aren’t always right, and when they’re not, they tend to hurt those the closest to a person. Zoro realizes that his blindness could possibly be holding him back from finally seeing the truth.

“You know, you could be wrong about what you were thinking,” Robin shared as she flipped the page of the book she was reading and glanced up at the swordsman who was staring out into the ocean with a concentrated look on his face. “I’ve seen how you look at him, you’ve cared about him for a long time, have you?” Robin sympathized as she lowered her book and moved to give the swordsman her full attention, if that was what he wanted from her.

“No,” Zoro scoffed. He was denying it even though he could clearly see it. He could feel it, it had been tormenting him for years, ever since the day Luffy had saved him. First he had thought it was respect for Luffy’s power, and it honestly could’ve been. Zoro couldn’t remember, along the way his feelings had gotten jumbled up and he became even more confused. What if he was still confusing his feelings with something else? What if he didn’t even care about his captain that way? Was the way he was feeling wrong? He knew that no one on their ship would mind. After all, they had encountered stranger things, people in the past.

“Yes,” Robin lightly teased.

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“Oh?” Robin chuckled to which the swordsman tensed.

“You tricked me!” Zoro snapped as he looked over at Robin and glared down at the woman who seemed to be relishing in Zoro’s embarrassment. He wasn’t surprised that she was a sadist, she seemed to be enjoying seeing Zoro squirm around about his affections for their captain.

“Tricked? Is it a game?” Luffy suddenly asked as he walked in between the two of them and smiled. “Can I play?” he asked with a wide grin on his face. Suddenly Zoro felt himself get tense again, his heart started to roughly drum against his chest and he didn’t know what to say suddenly.

“I’ll leave you two alone then,” Robin said with a small, encouraging smile as she walked away from Zoro with her book in hand. Zoro quickly looked over in Robin’s direction and silently pleaded for her to come back and save him from his suffering. Zoro watched the woman leave the deck and leave him stuck with their captain.

“Zoro?” Luffy asked with a small tilt of his head. He looked at his swordsman and crossed his arms as he tried to figure out what was wrong with him.

“Yes?” Zoro asked. But he knew better than to let Luffy ask him what was wrong. He could never keep a secret from his captain. Luffy would be able to tell if he was lying, and he knew that would worry his captain more than it was worth. “Did you really mean that you wanted to stay together after you become the pirate king?” Zoro asked him.

“Yes!” Luffy confidently said. “Our dreams are the only ones that need us to constantly be together for, right?” he asked. “You said you would be the greatest swordsman and I would be the pirate king. Well, I am going to need the greatest swordsman by my side when I become the king. Strong people are going to fight us, and I want to fight with you,” Luffy explained as if it was that easy. As if everything he said didn’t pierce Zoro straight in the heart.

“Me? By your side?” Zoro asked in some disbelief.

“Of course, I trust you,” Luffy smiled. One stab.

“We’ve known each other the longest,” Luffy reminded him. Second stab.

“And... I just want to be with you,” Luffy shrugged. Third stab, shattered. Zoro suddenly was melting and in pieces over his captain who was right in front of him.

I just want to be with you

Zoro was in awe of what he was saying, he had a shocked look on his face. “Me? Just me?” Zoro asked just as Luffy was being pulled away by Nami.

“Oi, Luffy!” Nami scolded before she leaned into him and whispered something into his ear which seemed to surprise the captain.

“Really? But I mean that,” Luffy pouted at the woman who looked at Zoro in surprise.

“You do? Well, sorry then. Continue,” Nami said as she left the deck and went to get Chopper and Usopp away from Zoro and Luffy. “Hurry up!” she scolded to Chopper and Usopp as she dragged him away.

They were finally alone.

Zoro took in a deep breath and looked at Luffy in confusion. And if he wasn’t mistaken, was Luffy looking at him with that same look. It seemed like they were in a fairy tale. Both of them confused, looking at each other with the same eyes but neither of them knowing how to explain the tension that was between them.

“What did Nami tell you?” Zoro quietly asked him as he crossed his arms, he was trying to guard himself up again, act indifferent when he honestly was curious.

“She said something about leading something on? I don’t know what she meant,” Luffy admitted as he scratched the scar on his chest. It took Zoro a second to put the pieces together.

Oh.

Was Nami talking about Luffy leading him on? Was that what was happening here? Zoro exhaled sharply and looked off the side. Was Luffy leading him on?

“Maybe she’s right,” Zoro said as he went to walk away. He let his guard too much, he was too weak. He knew his observation was right, why would the most powerful man in the world want to spend his future with him?

“What? Zoro, no, what do you mean? What’s going on? What is she talking about?” Luffy asked as he started to go after Zoro as he went up to the crow’s nest.

“It’s better if you didn’t know. If you didn’t ever know. It’s complicated and you don’t need that if you’re gonna be the pirate king. You need to focus on your dream.” Zoro stated as he shut the door when Luffy followed him inside of the nest.

“How can I focus when you’re acting like this? You’re my friend, I’m worried about you!” Luffy frowned. Friend. Friend. Friend. Was that all he was to Luffy? After all these years, these sleepless nights he had over his captain?

“And I lo--” Zoro bit his tongue hard enough to draw blood. The restraint he had to show in this moment hurt him. “Nothing is wrong.” He felt tired of having to put up that facade, but if it protected his captain, he would do it as long as he needed to.

“You’re lying! You know I can tell when you’re lying, what is going on?” Luffy insisted. Like always, his sense of social cues and boundaries seemed to be nonexistent. Zoro was looking away at this point, his perceived notion was taking over his mind. While he knew better, he knew he should listen to Luffy’s reasoning, he couldn’t bring himself to do that now.

“Zoro!” Luffy pleaded to his closest companion as the look of worry on his face grew.

“Nothing. Happened.” Zoro got flashbacks to Thriller Bark, the pain he took on for his captain. He didn’t regret a word or action he said and took back then. Why should he now?

Luffy grabbed Zoro’s shoulders and shook the swordsman, that painful look of worry and fear didn’t leave Luffy’s face when he looked up at the swordsman.

“You’re lying... why��re you lying to me?” Luffy asked as he rested his head on Zoro’s chest.

Zoro had to resist the urge to hug Luffy, to comfort him in that moment, was he even allowed a luxury like that?

“It’s a weakness I need to overcome.” Zoro said.

“What? A weakness? Maybe I can help - “

“No.” Zoro stated as he grabbed Luffy’s shoulder’s and pinned him against the wall. “My weakness is you!” Zoro finally confessed as he looked at his captain with confused eyes. Luffy’s eyes widened in shock as he looked up at the swordsman in front of him.

“Me...?” Luffy asked in disbelief. Zoro physically couldn’t bring himself to speak, confessing to a weakness like that made him feel ashamed, embarrassed. It wasn’t the right time, the moment wasn’t right. He nodded his head and sighed before he started to pull back from Luffy.

Before he could get too far, Luffy grabbed Zoro’s hand and pulled him in closer. “I want to spend my future with you, didn’t that make sense to you?” He asked.

“No, Luffy it didn’t make sense. I’m only here because of my strength, but I’m so weak around you and I -- “ Zoro was suddenly caught off when he was pulled closer to Luffy by another set of hands. And before he knew it, he was met by warm lips. Zoro looked at Luffy in shock before he quickly pulled away. By Luffy’s side, two arms transformed into flower petals before disappearing. Robin had pulled them closer. Damn that woman.

Luffy looked surprised and looked off to the side, but he didn’t look upset by the kiss, he instead seemed to have enjoyed it. That didn’t slip by Zoro, that was one observation he was able to catch onto. Without saying another word, Zoro kissed Luffy again and brushed his hands through his captain’s hair, his hat falling to the ground in the process.

While the kiss lasted only a few seconds, it left both of them breathless and pleasantly dazed.

“My observation was wrong,” Zoro softly panted out. “I want to be there with you, I need to be with you, Luffy,” he admitted as he looked at his star struck captain.

“Zoro...” Luffy mumbled before he softly started to smile and laugh his signature laugh. “You were wrong!” He said as he pulled away from him. And as if one of the biggest changes in his life didn’t just occur, he started to leave the crows nest. “Come on! Let’s go! Everyone is waiting for us!” He smiled.

Zoro smiled with him and shook his head. “Yes, captain.”

Prompt 2: “In case we don’t make it back...” (Law x Reader) SFW

Word Count: 3k

Synopsis: in the weeks leading up to the events at dressrosa, you find yourself falling for the brooding heart pirates captain. the odds aren’t good. so, in case you don’t make it back...

warnings: language, a little angst, some fluff

Dressrosa is a hellscape. But only you seem to know it. Everyone around you seems to be content with the facade that has been created--no one ever asks questions, everyone is always smiling. But you know better. You know just how dark the underbelly of this place really is. Everyone seemed to love the Donquixote family--adored them, in fact. From the saccharine persona of Sugar, to the repulsive Trebol, all the way up to the pink bastard himself, Doflamingo--everyone cherished them. The protection that a warlord could provide a country couldn’t be discounted to them, though many of the citizens of Dressrosa had given their sentient lives for it. But you hoped that one day, the people of Dressrosa would see that though their god wore bright clothing, his soul was nothing but darkness.

Two Weeks Prior

You’d known of the Strawhat pirates for a while now, keeping track of their movements. Their captain is reckless, but determined to take down Doflamingo, which worked in your favor, certainly. The news of their alliance with warlord colleague, Trafalgar Law was, you admit, a surprise. But you’d been intrigued by the inked captain, so you decided to take advantage of the opportunity and introduce yourself.

He and the Strawhat captain, Monkey D. Luffy, seemed to be in an argument when you first saw him at the docks. Well, a more apt description might be that Law was arguing with Luffy, who seemed very unconcerned with his ally’s thoughts.

You walk closer, not wanting to alert them to your presence quite yet. As you approach, you hear what they’re arguing about.

“Will you just listen to me, idiot?” Law gritted through his teeth. “This plan is insane, it is not going to work.”

“Lighten up, Tra-guy,” Luffy replied easily, grinning as he slapped a hand on Law’s shoulder.

He shoved Luffy’s hand off with a huff. “Lighten up?” You took a step closer. “Lighten up?” He asked again, his voice increasing in volume. “Do you little shits have any idea who this guy is? He’s a warlord.” He paused, a sad, distant look on his face,

“He’s right,” You said, finally within earshot of the two pirates. Their heads snapped to you, alarmed at the interruption.

“Who the hell are you?” Law said, narrowing his eyes. His body followed the direction of his head, and he now faced you squarely. Now fully upright, you could see just how tall he was, standing nearly two heads above his pirate ally. Your eyes were drawn to his striking features--dark eyes, dark hair, dark whorls of ink on his exposed skin. You were particularly drawn to his hands. Long fingers stained with black tattoos, the fingers you knew were capable of bringing a person to their knees with just a simple gesture. Room.

You knew he was handsome from his wanted poster, but damn, it did not fully capture the brooding magnetism that you saw in front of you right now.

“I’m y/n,” You finally replied, closing the gap between you and the pair. “I live here, in Dressrosa.”

Luffy began to talk, but Law clapped his hand over Luffy’s mouth, silencing him. “Shut up,” Law said with a clenched jaw. Luffy grumbled, trying to rip Law’s hand away.

You dropped your weapon in a show of good faith.. “Just hear me out. Please.” You needed to convince Law (Luffy didn’t seem like he needed much convincing) that you were on their side. Any side that was equally interested in annihilating the Don Quixote family.

Law looked at you suspiciously, and signaled for you to continue talking. You explained everything to them. You explained how you’d come here to Dressrosa after escaping capture. You’d made a life for yourself, selling your wares at the market in town. Seeing walking toys was jarring, to say the least, but what was even more jarring was the fact that no one seemed to be asking any questions about it. In fact, the citizens of Dressrosa seemed to be downright chirpy. It made your skin crawl. And Doflamingo was too revered, despite his seedy grin and disreputable demeanor.

So you did some digging, you told them. And you’d inadvertently discovered the awful secret of the country. It all made sense, and it made you despise the oligarchy even more. There were a few that were a part of the underground rebellion, to whom you swore your allegiance. When you found out that Trafalgar Law had potential plans to overthrow the man who once enslaved him, you were practically writhing with vigor and excitement at the prospect.

The captains listened closely, not interrupting once. Even the rambunctious Strawhat was rapt with attention. When you finally finished your tale, you leaned against the rocky cliff face at the mouth of the dock, waiting for a reaction.

After a few moments of silence, you spoke again, hoping that with these next words, your trust would be earned. “I’m sorry about Corazon. I didn’t know him personally, but I’ve heard him discussed. It seems like he was a great man.”

Law’s face went pale at the sound of his friend’s name, and Luffy looked over to him with a puzzled look. But even Luffy could tell that this was not something to ask about right now. He’d never seen Law look like this before.

He was silent for a long few minutes, and you began to regret your decision. Maybe mentioning Corazon wasn’t the right move. Damn it, damn it, damn it. You needed their trust. Their help. The very lives of the people in this country depended on garnering this rapport.

“Look, I’m sorry. I should have mention--” You were cut off.

“The rebellion,” Law interrupted. “You have strong fighters?”

Your heart leapt. Maybe this was actually going to work. “Yes, but we need more. Diamante has been on our ass for a few months, so we have a hard time maintaining our numbers.”

You could see that he was considering, and after another second he said, “Take us to your base.”

That was two weeks ago.

The plan was made, the date set. Tomorrow, you would join Law, Usopp and Robin in their journey to Green Bit. Aboard the Sunny, one would not think a deadly battle was looming over the pirates’ heads. You’d learned so much about the crew over the past few weeks, and it filled you with such a hope that you’d long denied yourself.

The Strawhats are fearless, confident. So much so, that despite Law’s ever gloomy pessimism, you cannot find it within you to worry. For the first time since arriving in that dreadful place, you feel at home. You take a deep, cleansing breath in, and exhale fully. Luffy, Chopper and Usopp are restless waiting for the food that Sanji is preparing in the kitchen, jamming their chopsticks childishly into their own noses or ears. Nami smacks Luffy across the back of the head with an annoyed look, and Robin reads quietly to herself. Zoro leans against the side of the ship, a disgruntled look on his face and a bottle of sake in his hand. To Zoro’s right, there’s Caesar scowling petulantly, still confined by his sea prism stone handcuffs. Franky is waiting for dinner below deck, refueling the ship with cola from the last Coup de Burst, while Brook blankets the whole evening with tinkling violin music.

The only one missing, you notice looking around, is Law. Standing up from your spot, you approach Zoro and snatch the sake out of his hand abruptly and take a swig. Rather than giving it back, you keep it with you, walking away too quickly for Zoro to object (though you can hear him grumbling irritatedly from behind you, before he calls for another bottle).

You climb the steps to the helm, and notice him alone at the stern of the ship, leaning over the banister. He doesn’t notice you at first, allowing you an extra few silent moments to stare at him from behind. It’s an usually warm evening, so he isn’t wearing his heavy cloak, opting for black long-sleeved t-shirt, which he has cuffed up to his elbows. With his forearms exposed, you can see how his tattoos wind around the sinews there, seeming to underline toned bands of muscle under the skin. Your eyes rove his back, which is visible through the fitted black shirt. His broad shoulders narrow to a thin waist, and he stretches his arms above his head, exposing a sliver of skin from his lower back.

You’d been so occupied by the sight of his body, you almost didn’t notice another striking difference in his appearance. Normally covered by his ridiculous mushroom hat, his shaggy hair is exposed and rustling in the salty breeze. He reaches a hand up to run through his hair, pausing to grip the hair at the back of his neck roughly, as if he was frustrated. You find yourself wondering if his hair is as soft as it looks under the light of the moon and the stars. You feel a coil tighten ever-so-slightly within your core, but you approach anyway.

“Don’t you want dinner?” You call, making sure you gave him plenty of time and space before you closed the gap between you completely. He stiffens momentarily, but relaxes as he hears your voice again. “Sanji should be almost done.”

He cranes his head over this shoulder toward you, but makes no effort to turn his body with it before turning his head back face forward, looking out onto the vast ocean. You stand next to him, leaning your elbows on the banisters as he was doing beside you. You offer the bottle of sake to him wordlessly. He takes it, drinking from it for a moment before handing it back to you.

Though he does not indicate it, he appreciates your silence in moments like these. He never feels pressured to talk around you, to present fake niceties or meaningless chatter. He also, much to his horror, has found that he appreciates your company in and of itself. Your presence simultaneously calms and arouses his nervous system. He doesn’t understand it, but being the man of science that he is, he plans to observe and collect data. For research purposes, he tells himself. Only research purposes.

“Not really hungry,” He replies, giving you a sidelong glance as you hang on the railing beside him.

“C’mon, Law, what’s it been? Like three days since you last ate with us?” You jab him in the side in a way that you hope comes off as playful, though you really are becoming increasingly concerned with his disengagement.

He shrugs, neither in confirmation or denial. Over the time you’d spend together, you found yourself growing more and more attached to him daily. You found that you always wanted to have eyes on him, and were viscerally uncomfortable when he wasn’t around. Law, too, had become accustomed to some uneasiness with your absence, or his from you. He had no frame of reference for this feeling, and it scared him. But he wanted to understand it, needed to understand it.

“You’re starting to worry me a bit,” You say, breaking him from his thoughts. You do your best to keep it lighthearted, but as he flinches a bit at the words, you realize that you have not been very lighthearted at all.

Law hates that he cares about you, what you think of him. Even worse, he hates that you care about him. He knows from the way you look at him, recognizing your look of longing in his own eyes whenever he dared to look at himself in a mirror. But caring about him has only meant death for the people he’d cared about before. An image of Corazon’s bloodied body flashes through your mind and he cringes again. He casts his eyes downward and presses his mouth into a thin, tight line.

“Hey,” You say softly. It breaks your heart to see him like this. You want him to feel better. You want to be the one that makes him feel better. You’re warm and brave from the alcohol you’ve consumed and you place a hand gently on his forearm. Recoiling from your touch, he inhales sharply. But you don’t remove your hand.

“Hey,” You say again even more quietly, afraid that even a decibel too loud will scare the fragile husk away from you. “It’s going to be okay. Tomorrow, that is. We have a solid plan.”

Law finally dares to look at you. Like that first day that you met, his eyes are filled with dejection. He wants very badly to believe your words. Coming out of your mouth, they sound so sweet. Coming out of your mouth, he almost allows himself to yearn. To yearn for a way to change the past, but also to yearn for a new, and brighter future.

“I’ve lost everyone I’ve cared about.” Law replies. “They’re all either dead, or so far from here that they may as well be, considering the fact that I will likely never see them again.”

His voice drops to a whisper. “You know as well as I do, y/n. This mission has a very low chance for success.”

You don’t reply. You do know this. It is Doflamingo, afterall. But for some reason, his reply irks you more than it normally would.

“What the hell, Law?” Your irritation is clear in your voice. “Is it so difficult for you to be even a little positive? Is that really so unbearable?”

His eyes narrow. “When you’ve seen the shit that I’ve seen, yeah, it is really so unbearable.” He mocks your tone, making you fume.

“The shit that you’ve seen?” You raise your eyebrows. “The shit that you’ve seen? We’ve all seen shit we’d like to forget, Law! The only difference between you and all of us, is that we don’t carry that shit on our back like a fucking martyr all the damn time.” Your voice climbs to a yell, and it echoes across the dark water in the stillness of the night.

He hates that you’re right. Hates that he’s such a coward, and that he has a martyr complex to top it all off.

“How arrogant you are,” You continue, your fury propelling you forward. “To believe that everything is always your fault. Sometimes life is just shit, Law. That’s all there is to it.”

Angry tears well up in your eyes, but you don’t back down. You refuse to look away.

He is silent, but holds your gaze as intensely as you are holding his. You feel the air shift, anger slowly shifting into something altogether new. You notice, with sudden clarity, that you are close to Law. Very close. You are trembling, but he is too. A long, shuddering breath passes through his open lips. His breath smells faintly of the sake, the sweetness of the fruit mingling with the acrid scent of the alcohol itself.

He places one hand on the railing behind you, brushing against your side as he does. “You’re right, y/n,” He says, never taking his eyes off of you. “Sometimes life is just shit.”

He leans down and continues. “A lot of times life is just shit. And you can’t deny that this situation is shit too. We’re relying on a lot of variables to fall into place in just the right way, at just the right time, and in my life, that has pretty much never fucking happened.” His tone is hard.

He is being drawn to you in a way that confounds him. As if he was possessed, he closes the final few inches between you. His chest and yours are pressed against one another, and the tattooed hand on the railing slowly drifts to the back of your head. He leans his forehead on yours and tangles his surprisingly delicate fingers in the strands of your hair.

“So,” He murmurs. Your heart is pounding so hard that you wonder if he has ripped it from your chest already. “In case life is as shit as it’s always been...in case we don’t make it back…”

His lips meet yours. At first, you can’t breathe. You freeze, but you feel him stiffen and try to pull away. He thinks he has made a huge mistake, ruining yet another good thing in his life with his egocentrism. But your hands grasp the fabric of his t-shirt, and pull him back into you, so his lips never leave yours.

He sighs in relief, moving his mouth deliberately on yours. If this is the last night he has, he wants to make it worth something. He wants one night to be worth something. Your fingers unfurl from his shirt, and you slide your hands up his chest, finally wrapping your arms around his neck. One hand is at the nape of your neck, the other at the small of your back.

There is not an inch of space between you, not a millimeter. Your lips and his fit together like he and misery always had. He allows himself to believe, just for this moment, that you could replace the misery in his life. He allows himself to believe that this won’t be your last kiss. He gives himself permission to believe that you and he would be here again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day after that.

For once, he grants himself the license to hope.
