—HOW TO USE CANVA TO MAKE MOODBOARDS

I got a kind message asking how I make moodboards in Canva, so I wanted to do a little tutorial! Canva is a free graphic design app/website, and I use it for everything.
To start - open the app/page and use the search bar at the top to search for a template. I usually use: photo collage, scrapbook, aesthetic moodboard - all of these will pull up pre-made templates for you to use.

Anything with a crown is for Canva Pro members - you used to be able to use the templates as a free member (just not the paid assets) but that changed recently. The linked templates above are all free ones that you can use right away.
PHOTOS:
Once you’re in the template, you can press the + in the bottom corner to bring up the menus. The Elements tab have items you can add in (more on that later) - for now you want to go to Uploads, and add the photos you want to use. I mostly get mine from Pinterest and Google Images.

After that, go back to your template and click on the different photo frames, and use the Replace button in the toolbar - it will let you replace the template photos with your own. Double tap to move and resize your image within the frame, (and there are also filters you can use if you want!)
When working on moodboards, I like to move things around. You can replace the frames they use by clicking on the item and then clicking the Trashcan. Then go back to the + menu, and then Elements, and scroll down to Frames. You can scroll through them all, but my fave keywords to use in the search bar is: polaroid, torn, and ripped.
Once they’re added, you can move them wherever you want. There’s a button on the toolbar that says Position, and you can shift the object forward/back between the items around it.
DETAILS:
Once you add your photos, then comes the details! You can change the background color and add/change the fonts (or upload your fave font to use!) Try out all the tools on the toolbar to see what you can do, there’s a lot of options.
I love love layering with my moodboard, so I will go back to the + / Elements tab, and then search for things to layer in. My fave searches for Graphics recently are: ripped paper, grunge patterns (to use in the background), star patterns, dried flowers, and dried leaves.
You can use the Position tool on them to fit them in-between or in front of your photos. I usually use them to hide harsh edges or in places that look a little empty.
I also like adding fabric texture to the backgrounds, to fill the space between the photo frames. There isn’t an easy way to do this - the best way I figured out is to find an image of the texture you want, and then to add a photo frame with a torn or jagged edge in the very back (and then use your new texture there). You can duplicate and move it, to cover the space (you can see some examples below - the beige flower pattern in the Din one, the black velvet for Alfred).

EDITING:
Once I am happy with the design I download it, and then edit. I love this part - pop it into your fave editing app, and play around with the exposure/contrast/hues/sharpness. I will mess with the color balance & vibrancy as well - this can really take a moodboard I like, to one I love.
Here’s some gifs I made showing before /after editing - both are pretty before but I think the after has an oomph that I really appreciate.

[When you finish with one and want to use the same template, you can click Make a Copy, and it will duplicate it. I began with templates but everything I do now are copies of heavily/edited templates or ones I’ve made from scratch. But for starting off, I think a template is the way to go!]
And that’s it!! I would really suggest just opening it up and seeing what you can do. Not all of mine turn out great, but each time I think I get a better handle on all the different options and what my moodboard style is.

Daryl would try his hardest to meet their needs. Going on runs to find headphones/earplugs, sunglasses, things with a texture they like, comfort foods, clothes that aren’t too overstimulating, whatever they need.
If they have sensitive hearing and didn’t bring their headphones/earplugs with them, he’d place his hands on their ears to block out loud noise as best as he could.
His poncho would probably bring comfort to his kid. Smelling like him, being a decent texture, them liking to just feel the fabric pattern. He’d hand it over to them whenever they’re overstimulated so they can get calmed.
If they like physical contact and pressure, he’d give big tight bear hugs, holding and squeezing them close for as long as they need. If his kid doesn’t like pressure and physical contact, he’d keep physical touch to a minimum to not make them uncomfortable.
He would never forgive himself if he were the reason why his kid was overstimulated and upset. He’d never want to be the reason why.
If they were all fidgety and pretty much on the verge of freaking out, he’ll hold their hands until they calm down. (But not without asking if it’s okay first!)
During meltdowns he’d be there for them, making sure they’re okay. After their meltdown he’ll give them time to calm down and rest, since meltdown might be very draining for them.
Overall I think he would be very supportive!! Ran out of ideas… might make a part 2

Laughing Jack Headcanons!
I have so many things about this rewritten clown in my brain n' I don't think I've ever like Listed ALL the headcanons in one spot? individual posts but never a hoard of them, soo. Here's all on my mind rn but i've probably forgotten some! - He can't feel pain or temperature and struggles with texture. The best way to explain it is imagine wearing super thick work gloves all the time and trying to touch a cactus and then a fur pillow, only difference you're gonna feel is that you can push into the pillow. - He also can't sleep or smell, but he still yawns when he's exhausted and sneezes when there's visibly a lot of dust or whatever in the air. -Also he can't eat food or taste. If he tries, he'll throw it up along with black sludge after an hour or so. He can drink and feel the effects of alcohol, but it makes him fucking reek because he doesn't have any organs and it just kinda absorbs into his stuffing. - He's a huge kleptomaniac! He has entire tents in his carnival dedicated to shit he's stolen from people he's killed, but he keeps his favourite items in his trailer. -His skin is a combination of plastic and rubber, despite initially being made with fabric. There's a few parts on his body where left over seems are still visible. -The only part of his body that's white is his head and most of his torso, the rest has been stained black with a faint branch pattern connecting the colours together. -His makeup isn't makeup, it's just how he looks! And he hates it! -If he wears coloured clothes they'll eventually turn monochrome and won't regain colour. -Huge egomaniac! Part of his kelptomania fuels this as he hoards things that are rare/thought to not exist anymore -Only thing close to a friend he's ever had is his relationship with Zalgo and Will. -Doesn't remember how he came to be or why he loves violence. He sometimes dwells on it but not for too long or else he gets upset. -Holy items can tranquilize him/subdue him on prolonged physical and can send him into a state akin to sleep but with none of the benefits. Having a holy item nearby simply makes him mildly less agitated and a lot more tired. -He can turn into smoke and do mild shapeshifting, mainly changing sizes or stretching things by an impossible amount. -Extremely quick to anger -Loses track of the year a lot -Has no clue why he has such a familial bond with Will and struggles with it as all he's done for hundreds of years is be either an asshole or kill people, so his nice gestures and affection sometimes comes with implied threats
-Extremely overprotective and controlling of Will to the point Will doesn't feel like he has a life of his own [Will used to love it as a kid, but now he's in his mid 20's/early 30's? Not so much] -Can use his pullstring as another limb, being able to grab things or life himself up with it. -Sometimes literally hangs around by cradling/hammocking himself with his pullstring

Convention Guide: Basic Tabling Gear
September 2023
Whether you’re an artist alley newbie or you’ve been doing the convention circuit for years, putting together your table essentials is a crucial part of selling your wares at events and ensuring your weekend goes smoothly. In this guide, we’re covering the basics of setting up your first ever table.
This list is a non comprehensive assessment of things a tabler might need and should be used as a simple starting point. The four main categories we will cover are:
The Display
Behind the Table
Money
Quality of Life Suggestions

1. The Display
a) Tablecloth
Starting from the base layer, we’ve got tablecloths– an easy way to add some color and personality to your table. Your tablecloth doesn’t even have to be an actual tablecloth! You can use a length of fabric cut from a bolt at your local craft store. Convention tables tend to be 6’ long, so when selecting your fabric, look for measurements longer than 72” (183cm).
Play with color and texture to find something that fits the theme of your work on display. Patterns can be fun, but might distract from your inventory or signage if the colors/design are too bold and busy. Tip: your cloth may get messy from food behind the scenes or dust/dirt if you do outdoor events. Get something that’s easy to wash in your machine!
b) Display supports
Most artists these days use cube organizers that break apart into flat panels and connector joints. They are easy to store when not in use, easy to transport in a suitcase or tote, and you can change the shape depending on your table set up and inventory. Tip: constructing your display to include shelves that face you behind the table helps organize your backstock during the show.
These cubes aren’t your only option. Some people use milk crates, picture frames, wooden boxes, custom built shelves, etc. Consider what works best for you, your aesthetic, and your storage/transportation needs. When in doubt, you can always lay your goods flat on the table.
c) Signage
Having clear signage on your items to denote price helps people feel more comfortable purchasing from your table. Your price markers don’t have to be fancy. Prices written neatly on pieces of paper and paperclipped to your books or taped up next to your stickers is a simple and effective strategy. Some people print out a price list or use a sign board. It’s totally up to you!
Include a sign with your name somewhere in your display, including your social media handle if it is different from your artist name. This will help fans of your work more easily recognize you. Tip: use a QR code prominently displayed on your table that links to your portfolio, linktree, etc.
d) Banner/backdrop
Look out behind you! Whether it’s a banner, a backdrop, or something else, the space behind your seat can be put to use. While it is relatively easy to print custom banners at most print shops, many tablers cite this as an unnecessary expense, especially for first time artist alley participants. If you’d like to hang a collage of your work behind you, look for photography backdrop tripods, which can collapse and fold up neatly. The behind-the-table space is shared with other artists, and it can get cramped. Be mindful of your needs when deciding how to do a backdrop. Some artists opt to exclude a backdrop and just use their cubes to arch over them.
Optional: Decorate your table! Flowers, string lights, plushies, etc. can all bring a special one of a kind experience to your set up.
2. Behind The Table
a) Inventory
Now that we’re behind the table, let’s talk about what’s going on back here. Starting with inventory. If you’re absolutely unsure how much to bring, a good starting number is about 10 of each item. If you sell out, congratulations! You’ll know what to bring more of next time, or you’ll know you should raise your prices. For storing inventory during transportation to the con and while at the show, you might consider simple boxes, an accordion folder, or a portfolio case, depending on what kind of items you’re bringing. Reminder: if you’re using display cubes, structuring them to give you shelves on your side of the table will help you keep things organized.
b) Suitcase/storage tote
Under your feet will be your suitcase/tote box, and perhaps a dolly, if you used one to wheel your boxes into the building. It is recommended that your suitcase/tote has a lock on it, as you’ll be leaving inventory overnight. Hopefully no matter what you use, it has wheels of some kind. All this gear gets heavy. If you are not using a wheeled device, make sure to check your pack’s weight as you assemble your supplies. You will have to carry it from the parking garage or bus stop through the convention center, and back out again at the end of the show.
c) Cover cloth
What else is in that box? Your cover cloth. This one is optional, but some artists like having a lightweight cloth to cover their table when the day is done. Something like a vinyl picnic tablecloth works perfectly. The cover cloth helps prevent anyone from accidentally knocking your things over or having things go missing.
d) Business cards
On your side of the table, you ought to have plenty of back up business cards. You’ll have some of these out on the table for passersby to pick up, but this item is the number one thing you’re going to hand out the most of. It’s always better to have too many rather than too few. For a single three day convention, you might need 200+ cards. Make sure your website/online shop is easy to find on your cards. Cute business cards go a long way to making your table memorable long after the con has ended.
Bonus supplies: Here’s a short list of things you might need throughout the weekend to touch up your display. Keep them in a bag and bring them with you every time you table!
Masking and clear tape
Spare paper for impromptu signage
Sharpies and pens
Zip ties
Scissors
3. Money
a) Card reader
The most commonly used card reader is Square, but there are alternatives. Research their fees and prices to determine what fits your needs. You’ll want to get a hold of a card reader and set up your account well in advance of your show. Card readers require wifi/data to work and will only work in your country of business, so take that into consideration when packing for your show. Most convention halls have wifi (sometimes at a cost), but if your show is outdoors you might be relying on data.
b) Cash/change
Cash is king! Make sure to bring enough cash/change for your show. About $25-50 in small bills is usually enough if you’re also accepting card. At the end of the day, consider tucking your big bills away in a secure location in your hotel room. If something were to happen to your bag, you’ll appreciate not having your entire weekend’s earnings in it!
c) Fanny pack
Keeping your cash attached to you at all times is smart. People often use fanny packs or cross body bags to manage their money.
4. Quality of Life
a) Backup battery
Since you may be using your phone to complete transactions, or maybe you’re drawing on your iPad with time to kill, you’ll want to bring a back up battery. Most tables don’t have access to electricity, so having a battery and charging cables is a good idea.
b) Hand sanitizer & masks
One hand sani pump out front and one behind the table. You’ll be handling money, shaking hands with strangers, and touching surfaces that thousands of people have been touching all day. As long as there have been conventions, there have been con plagues. You don’t want to get knocked out with a cold (or worse) so masking is great!
c) Table buddy
If you’re able to, bring a friend to help you table. Cons will often give tablers 2 passes (one for you and one for a friend). They can help you grab coffee or lunch, get change, package a big purchase, cover you for bathroom breaks, etc. Table buddies are truly the unsung heroes of artist alley.
d) No table buddy? No problem.
Check in with con staff and volunteers. Many comic cons will have a green room for artists to take a snack break and decompress, and con staff will help guide you there. Some conventions also enlist volunteers to help sit your table while you’re away. They’ll make sure your table stays in order, direct people to your business cards, and inform curious patrons when to expect you back.
e) Fun stuff!
There will be plenty of downtime. Con hours are long and often slow in the mornings. Bring something to keep you occupied, but not too engrossed, so you can easily pull away to greet customers and fans. Fidget toys, a puzzle book, knitting or crochet project are all great ideas.
f) Get Comfy, Eat Well, Stay Hydrated
Going from your quiet desk to the high octane energy of artist alley can be a shock to the system. Some items to help reduce the fatigue are: noise canceling headphones during downtime and breaks, sunglasses to combat the fluorescent lights and rest your eyes, slippers or comfy shoes for under the table, and layers of clothing. Convention halls can fluctuate temperatures wildly. With lots of AC during the summer, sweaty crowds, and the flow of traffic to your table, you’ll be working up a sweat fulfilling transactions one second then freezing after sitting still for a minute.
Most importantly, have a small cooler with snacks and drinks. You may not get a break, but it’s important to stay hydrated and energized.

The next time you're at a convention, take note of displays that inspire you. #ArtistAlley and #ConTable tags on Instagram or TikTok can connect you with creators sharing their setups. Your table design is an opportunity to be creative and express yourself, while also learning along the way what works for you. Most tables, however, are built up over several convention seasons of trial and error, so while it’s good to take note of others' displays as a source of inspiration, try to keep your first table relatively simple. The more you table, the more you’ll be able to identify your needs for you and your merchandise.
We’ll close out this blog post with one final suggestion. Big, multi-day conventions can be fun, but they can also be expensive. Your tabling supplies and inventory aside, if you’re doing a show away from home, you’ll contend with table fees (often $250-450 USD), hotel, transportation, meals, etc. And not every convention is a good fit for your wares! Small, local events and art festivals are a great, low stakes, relatively cheap (or free) way to start tabling. Check your area for zine fests, queer makers markets, and craft fairs.

hufflepuffs just feel like such comfy people to me. comfortable to talk to, warm and inviting personalities, so they need just as many layers of warmth in their fashion. they like to mix different textures and fabrics for optimal comfort and warmth. think knit cardigans, wool sweater, tweed jackets, and corduroy pants. as far as the color palette, i feel like they're very warm autumnal people, earth tones, and, of course, yellow/gold.
hair

to me, hufflepuffs would definitely be the most savvy house when it came to their hair. not just having really nice hair in general, they literally all do it's crazy, but the hairstyles and accessories of it all...beads, clips, rings, braids, bows, headbands, head wraps, all of it. it's so cute watching them share different charms and ribbons to match with each other. the other houses are always stopping by the hufflepuff common room asking if they can do their hair in intricate braids or curl it for them because they just do it best!
colorful academia

if any of the houses love color, it's hufflepuffs. they're similar to their ravenclaw friends in the sense that they love the eclectic look, but hufflepuffs always prioritize a color scheme for their looks. even if some hufflepuffs are more neutral in their palettes, they still love going for the academia look to keep it simple, classic, and chic. colorful leggings, plaid skirts, statement jackets, patterned scarves, and tall boots are just a few of their closet staples.
victorian-inspired

i don't know about you guys, but to me, hufflepuffs feel like very classy people to me. they enjoy the more traditional, contemporary parts of life and that includes fashion. they would love the modern victorian-inspired style of academia fashion that's been getting more popular, with things like lace, peter pan collars, baby doll dresses, ankle-length skirts, and vests. this is about the only time you'll see them in black & white!

Shohki Mask Cover
construction notes & photos under the cut
This has been a long time coming! I'm glad she's a costume I can work a mask into without it breaking the design of the character. I feel like people would be less inclined to ask that you remove it for photos this way ^^;

I went with a very thin cotton gauze fabric (#9 "coffee" if you're wondering), think a slightly thicker cheese cloth. It's very breathable as a single layer and seemed the best choice for an N95 cover. The shape was really only achievable with this fabric because of the shape of my mask underneath, and some strategically placed 1/2" wide horsehair braid tubing from the dollar tree. I usually stock up around halloween but they stock around christmas too!

Process is very straight forward, just traced my mask on the fold and made some rough adjustments for a card stock mock up. I like 90-110 lbs for this sort of thing but construction paper can work in a pinch too. Cut that out and fit to my face, tweaked the placement on the nose bridge and added a 1/4" allowance for bias tape/facing, and appropriate allowance for flat felled seams.
The ear tab was extended to cover the mask underneath, and included allowance for support fabric (denim scrap in my case) to support two eyelets intended to thread the elastic of my mask through. Then it was just patterning out the rest of the mask elements and making note of seam allowance and how to cut each piece. I trimmed the tape holding together the card stock mask apart and finally got to cutting out the fabric once that was done.

There isn't anything fancy going on, the hardest part was just the inset mesh panel over the weirdly shaped keyhole cut outs on the mouth piece. It's just black nylon mesh typically used for interfacing bras sewn on after making the keyholes.
This fabric is like if toilet paper were a textile, which is great for breatheability and weight but absolutely hell for machine work like this. It's not for a competition so for me, hiding messy stitching with weathering later was ok.
The portion of the mask running from the underside of each ear tab was finished with homemade bias tape. The same method was used for finishing the top portion that runs over the bridge of my nose. The ends were simply folded and sewn down at the ear tabs for a clean finish.

The side "filters" have an extra 1/2" long extension so I can tack in the ends of some horse hair tubing, then double fold the fabric back into itself before hand tacking with tiny stitches from the outside. That helps the light fabric balloon out into that shape, along with another layer of that same mesh interfacing.
They are really fun actually, very floppy with great movement. Though they stick out a tad too much so I did add one small french tack to the center of each to help them point downwards but retain that movement. The "filter" took the most hand finishing out of the whole thing, but that was to be expected.

Once the little side "filters" were sewn in, there was just light weathering to do. I wanted to add some shadows and potential "mold spores" to certain areas to really make the texture pop and hide some messy stitching. Light passes with a dry brush and some acrylic helped a lot, so did referencing photos of mold growth on clothes.
It was a pass of burnt sienna along all seams and large patches where high humidity would accumulate. Then another lighter pass of burnt umber to deepen up areas, and some very sparse areas of white. Finally I wanted to give it the "blue cheese special" and mixed a little viridian green and that same white and hit the white areas first then dry brushed the spaces between mold patches. I'm trying to replicate active mold colonies so reference photos came in handy here. I also used some nail polish to match the grommets to fabric.
Maybe when I am not crunched for time I will get around to digitizing the pattern, but for now I hope the photos help anyone else trying to plan out a mask. Obviously the shape will change a lot depending on the sort of fabric and mask you have on under it, not to mention face shape. I would imagine bifolds would give you more her classic feed bag profile than an origami style mask, however.

@kanrix too many pictures to put in a reply or anything so i'm just gonna make a post FHLDSKJFHDLSKf this also goes out to anyone else who could benefit from my little gaster cosplay tutorial fhjkghkfg
aight this is the earliest picture i have but basically I cut an oval out of 4mm foam, and used scrap pieces of the same size foam that i just had laying around to do another layer on top for added support and thickness. after that i did my best to roughly mark where my eyes, nose and mouse were and cut the eyes out so that they would line up with my own, and used the markings for the mouth and nose to cut a hole into the inside of the mask for my nose to fit into. the mask has a higher layer of foam only on the very tip of the nose because i had to keep my nose from sticking out or pushing the mask too far off my face lol.
anyway after all of that i used a heat gun to heat the foam (WITHOUT melting it and preferably in a well-ventilated area) on both sides and then held it to my face in position to help it mold better to the shape of my head. it looked like this when i was done (i also cut into the upper layer of foam to make the eye scars)

after that I covered the entire thing with this amazing thing called foam-mo, it's basically like foam in a water-based binder that behaves like craft clay. it's easy to work with and SUPER lightweight when it dries and it's absolutely perfect for making organic textures

it lost a bit of the dimensionality in the drips after it dried, but I just went over it with another layer where I wanted more texture, and used a dremel tool with a sanding bit to sand down parts that I wanted more depressed.

then after that were the first and second paint jobs. this included using an ultra dark carbon nanotube ink in the scars to get them as black as possible (and matte). after the second paint job I used a type of fabric called "speaker cloth" to cover up the eye and mouth holes. I hot glued the speaker cloth down from the inside and then painted over the fabric on both sides with fabric stiffener on the mouth hole ONLY (it can make it harder to see through the eye holes) since the mouth hole is so wide and is most subject to the shape distortion from how the mask was heat-shaped.

then finally the last paint job which included final shading touchups AND some extra work with white puffy paint, which I used to give the effect of the face dripping down.

the very last step was adding the pupils as a dot of intense blue glow in the dark paint. it took a few coats to get it thick enough, and then on top of the bead of glow in the dark paint i added a tiny dot of plain white paint to make them pop even more. add a 1/2 inch elastic strap around the back of the mask glued down on the inside and you're done!
also, here's some pictures of the first glove I painted, if the reference would be helpful. The gloves were sewn using a self-made "hand turkey" pattern from tracing the shape of my hand onto paper. it's not a perfect pattern, but it's serviceable enough for stretchy fabrics. and I did use a stretchy fabric: white moisture-wicking athletic wear fabric, because I was worried my hands would sweat a lot. and I was right! but this choice of fabric makes that much less of a problem. and also makes you feel like your hands are freezing off (being in the void simulator ig)
the painting job was done with just plain black and white acrylics mixed with a fabric paint medium. i traced the finger joints where my fingers actually creased, and just kind of... did my best to make the palm holes match up lmfao

As for the cloak and robe, I did sew those both myself, so I can't point you to a seller. BUT what I CAN do is tell you what patterns and fabrics I used and whether or not it was worth the intense labor of love! (short answer, for the cloak? yes! for the robe? NO.) I'd have to go dig up the patterns though, so let me know if that's of interest to anybody

Some examples of stims I did while growing up until I was forced to stop each one by an adult in my life:
Humming/whistling
Copying bird whistles
Chewing on my hair
Chewing on pens/pen caps/pencils/etc.
Matching a sound from around me
Repeating words/phrases frequently
Making ‘weird’ sounds with my mouth
Tapping something/tapping a finger or foot
Singing what I was doing
Blinking in patterns
Constant doodling
And undoubtably more that I don’t even remember.
The result of being forced to stop stimming no matter what stim I tried:
Constantly anxious. Constantly.
I started picking at my skin and pulling out my hair.
More outbursts and/or more shut downs.
I formed a stutter under even the smallest amount of stress.
I became less social. Didn’t talk as much. Didn’t feel comfortable communicating to anyone.
I was markedly less happy.
Restless and unable to focus because stimming helped me work with my ADHD side as well.
Confusion, hurt, and isolation because I was then aware that I was ‘weird’.
I formed a huge distrust of adults around me, including family. Which lead to me getting in trouble for not ‘respecting authority’. (Aka: I asked questions and didn’t take what everyone said as a fact.)
I developed depression.
Oh, and I was still bullied for being ‘weird’ so stopping stimming didn’t even help that. Surprise!
Eventual outcome as an autistic adult:
Constant anxiety that I often can’t source and don’t know how to sooth anymore.
No self soothing techniques work or feel ‘natural’ anymore.
I lean heavily on disassociation to get through the day and/or during stressful moments.
I’m accused of faking it, lying, etc. by people because I learned to mask my autistic traits as best as possible.
Frequently don’t have the language for when I’m overwhelmed, and frequently misunderstood when I try to explain that something is bothering me like fabric texture or sounds.
Treated like I’m incompetent, a child, or a collection of both if I don’t behave ‘perfectly’.
Talked down to a lot.
Still picking at my skin and pulling out my hair. 🥲
Constantly feel like I’m lying about who I am/ frequent identity crisis and impostor syndrome mix up.
Trouble with relationships/friendships to different extremes. (Ex: I was groomed as a kid/teen and didn’t know until I was in my late 20s. Have trouble keeping friendships because I just don’t know how to interact with people the ‘right way’.)
I had to teach myself a lot of ‘regular’ social cues and behaviors by mimicking people around me. That unfortunately doesn’t alway work, and/or comes with accidentally mimicking a personality trait/quark/etc. which leads to people thinking your mocking them or copying them.
A lot of rage for the people who treated me like shit my entire life for being autistic.
Moments of feeling very small and childish when things are out of my control.
Feeling guilty/uncomfortable about some things I like because they’re considered childish. (Ex: stuffed animals.)
Fear of any and all interactions with strangers. Fear of not being able to predict where the conversation will go. Fear of extreme negative reactions even when it doesn’t seem realistic for that to happen.
And more that are so ingrained in my life that I don’t even recognize them anymore.
I can’t not think about how my life could have turned out if those adults had let me be comfortably autistic. I can literally see physical differences in old photos of me, where I just stopped being me. Where the happiness and honesty were bullied out of me. And were my stims and behaviors that bothersome? No, actually. I had already learned to do different stims in different environments so I wasn’t being noisy when I needed to be quiet etc. But that wasn’t good enough, so every stim and every ‘weird’ behavior had to stop. Why? Because these adults had a power over me and other children like me, and they liked to abuse it.
It’s abuse. The end.

Okay, so if I’m being honest here, this particular Gerry is 100% influenced by the version in “Awake and Unafraid” by blasphemous-lies-and-deceit, who is amazing and deserves all the love. (Not that I don’t want to hug canon!Gerry too, but holy hell.) I will also confess that I had to undo him at one point; I’d been working on him steadily for a while, and then set him aside in favor of NaNoWriMo, whereupon he promptly got swallowed up by the hellscape miasma that is my room. I finally unearthed him in a moment that can best be described as “I have discovered every single godsdamned thing I have been looking for in the last six MONTHS and also the Ark of the Covenant and Jimmy Hoffa, and yet I cannot find the one specific thing I am looking for and which I only purchased a week ago” and started working on him again. Unfortunately, I had no idea where I was in the pattern and what variants I had actually done, so I unraveled most of his torso and started over. This is why it has taken me almost a year between Hux and Gerry.

Oh, well. At least I can confidently tell you that I altered the “base” pattern as follows:
Shoes: Black combat boots, baby! Like with Mini and Hux, I kept the color the same, but otherwise the shoes are the same as before.
Trousers: I was trying to give him baggy black jeans, so I wanted them to come down over his shoes. Thus, when I got to the top of the boots, I did a round in the front loop only to give myself a little ridge, then did a round of treble crochet in the front loops of that before going back to sc for the rest of the trousers. (I think. I forgot to write this down as I was doing it and it’s been, as previously mentioned, around six months since then at time of writing.) I also wanted to give him some artistic rips in the knees, so I switched to the white I’m using for his skin and did front-loop in the black around it to give it a bit of texture and make it look like they are, in fact, torn across the knees. Deliberately or not, your call.
Shirt: I wanted Gerry to be wearing a kind of baggy, shapeless shirt, and also to be a bit taller and lankier in the torso, with a slightly longer neck. I also put him in all black because that’s how he’s always described, so I worked him the same way as Joseph (just without changing color) up until R36, and then: R37: Ch 2, hdc in each fpdc around, sl st in first hdc (38 hdc). R38-48: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st in first sc (38 sc). R49: Ch 1, [sc in next 17 st, inv dec over next 2 st] twice, sl st in first sc (36 sc). Head: I always picture Gerry as having a long, thin face and a slightly larger nose, so I followed the base pattern for his head up to what is R60 on the original pattern (but is R64 on this pattern due to previously-made changes), and then: R65-70: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st in first sc (42 sc). R71: Ch 3, dc in next 26 st, puff st in next st, dc in next 15 st, sl st in first dc (41dc, 1 puff stitch). R72-77: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st in first sc (42 sc). Continue from R72 on original pattern. Unfortunately, I didn’t stuff him as much as I should have, so his neck is kinda floppy. I’m working on a solution to that.
I also used safety eyes for the first time here! And oh my God they saved so much time. I wasn’t sure they were going to work in the package, but once I got them in his face, I liked them a lot! I embroidered a little smirk for his mouth. Used yarn this time because I finally had a yarn needle to do it with and didn’t feel like digging for my embroidery floss by the time I got to his mouth, and I like it.

Hair: Yeah, I’m a ginger!Gerry convert, what of it. Anyway, because his hair is always described as “badly dyed”, I initially considered using a variegated yarn, but couldn’t find one that would do what I wanted it to do, I decided to badly dye it myself. I wrapped a hank of yarn around a piece of cardboard, tied it off, and cut it, then spread it out on said cardboard and sprayed it with black fabric spray paint I found in the clearance aisle at Joann Fabric. And, as if it knew why I was doing it, it just…wouldn’t…take. I must’ve sprayed, rearranged, sprayed again, let dry, untangled, discovered that I’d just done the surface, resprayed, moved, and sprayed again about twelve times before I thought I’d got it. I hadn’t. Finally, I gave up and sewed the mottled orange-and-black mess onto his head (which was a headache and a half, especially since I wanted him to have a side part), discovered that it was neither as long nor as thick as it had looked before I put it on his head, debated starting over, decided not to, took him back outside, and covered his face with a paper towel, then sprayed the hair again, this time while it was already on his head. That way a) it dyed the scalp as well, and b) I could hope it stuck. (It also occurred to me that I was doing this on the front porch, right on the EDGE of the porch, and that it was, if not raining, at least very humid, and I wondered if that was affecting it, so once I’d sprayed his head down, I brought him inside and let him cure that way.) The yarn still soaked up a lot of the dye, but at least it’s more or less evenly covered…and it does, in fact, give the effect of a bad dye job, so…success?
Arms: I did Gerry’s arms the same way I did Hux’s, except that I gave him short sleeves rather than long ones. I also made them a little bit longer than normal, partly because Gerry is a little bit taller and partly because I was an idiot and wasn’t counting properly.

I only did three (one on each hand and one on the back of his neck), because I was doing it in yarn and it was way too thick for anything tinier, but what the hey, he doesn’t technically have “joints”. (The ones on his knees don’t show because the holes are sagging below the joints. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)

the mysterious grey market clothes are here! alas, i do not have these items in my collection already, so I can’t do any direct comparisons. additionally, the tags were cut out of both pieces, though i will still show the stubs in case they’re of interest to someone.
first, kirsten’s robe.

based on pictures i’ve seen online, both the red plaid and the blue floral collar fabric seem dead on in terms of pattern. it’s hard to tell fabric type from pictures, but they at least look right. the best way i can describe them as someone who doesn’t know fabrics, is they are similar in weight and texture to those pre-cut quilting variety packs michael’s has, and they also kinda feel like the fabric of a bandana? off the top of my head, I can’t think of any ag item I’ve felt that had a similar fabric.
the most notable detail here to me is that the buttons are wrong, though that could mean nothing lol. the buttons are meant to be black and also a different type of button. on top of this, you might notice the top button missing - it was attached so poorly it came off as i was opening the robe (i’ll have to reattach it later).
overall, im relatively sure this was made at least with the same fabric as the original robe. im not sure whether the buttons were changed at some point during the original production of the robe, and I can’t think of a reason AG would change them so drastically for a relaunch. im on the fence about whether this was just in storage somewhere or whether it was recently made.
next, sam’s base birthday dress.

friends who have this outfit officially - is the fabric really slippery and shiny??? it does not have the texture i was expecting at ALL haha. it’s a very similar texture to felicity’s blue christmas gown (but shinier). if that’s not normal, i am leaning towards this being just made off a pattern. i know there’s a tag stub but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything lol.
if the fabric IS accurate, im 99% sure this was just in storage somewhere. the velcro is all wrong for modern AG (hence why i included a shot of the velcro inside).
in conclusion: i still have no idea what’s going on here. nonetheless, im quite glad i was able to add a version of these items for my collection for a good price, whether they are the official versions or not. im especially pleased with kirsten’s robe, which has some absolutely wild secondhand prices.

it took less than a second for me to go “how do pjs indicate personaliOhhh wait yeah that does make sense” as I realized I was folding up multiple adult size cartoon character onesies for my own pajama drawer. let’s get into it BUT UH DISCLAIMER i mostly talk about patterns in canon i’ve noticed with just… tiny personal thoughts in here. less headcanons more breakdown. NOW let’s get into it
lupin:
two modes-- soft, fuzzy button up set, or just his underwear. somewhat depending on weather, DEFINITELY depending on mood. i mean you don't wanna get COLD and he got those nice purple heart pajamas with an actual, legal purchase, so it'd be stupid to waste them ALL the time!
there could be a joke here about how he’d probably just sleep naked if the gang weren’t constantly groaning in annoyance, throwing pillows at him begging him to put on some damn pants, but the reality is… he can’t really sleep like that. it’s uncomfy :( he tried :) but it’s uncomfy :(
jigen:
you aren't ready for this. or you are. you likely are, given i had to choose between like 3 different pictures i have of him in fits like this

and i’m dead serious. big ass ankle length nightgown with matching cap. no, really. these are his actual pajamas. they’re comfy to him. i can’t fathom why, maybe the fabric is just equal parts breathable and warm, maybe he did this once for the bit and realized it was the best sleep he ever had, WHATEVER, these are his pajamas, and no amount of teasing by now will stop him from changing into these before going to bed

now, she would LIKE to say big, fluffy, fancy nightgown… but the texture feels bad scrubbing against your skin all night, so she usually just opts for a simpler nightgown. or, like lupin, just her underwear. obvious fanservice aside she’s clearly comfy bundled up like that so you show em how its done fujiko
no matter how cold it gets, she can never really sleep in pajama pants. shorts, maybe, but anything that reaches past her knees feels restrictive, hence why she normally just goes for the nightgown. she doesn’t even kick in her sleep idk why it’s such a big deal!

i had to look through a bunch of stuff because i was like. wtf. what DOES he wear to bed. he can’t just be wearing his usual clothes all day and night, it would be uncomfortable. so i’ve come to the conclusion that these virtually identical clothes here are just made of a softer material, designated as goemon’s jammies
or he just. sleeps in his underwear. it really is comfsorry the mental image of the camera panning across three beds where they’re sleeping in their underwear vs jigen still rocking the victorian fit is killing me a bit

have you noticed he sleeps with his hat on more than jigen does. isn’t that fucked. jigen has a special sleeping hat but the alleged NON-hat-obsessed guy is the one sleeping in it. due to his… hectic routine, he never really has a default type of pjs. either he just sleeps in what he was already wearing (c’mon, man) or he’s packed like, some pajama pants, or (take another shot because this series loves this gag) just hits the hay in the heart print boxers. jigen really is a scientific outlier.
USUALLY if he’s bothering to actually change, it’s just the undershirt he’s already got on and some comfy pants, the kind you can get at like walmart for five bucks, so if he’s forgotten to bring them it’s no biggie. damn anon was right this IS a personality indicator!
BONUS YATA!:
as we have oft discussed, yata is a man we have all met at one point in our lives. so, yata has the basic boring man pajamas. t-shirt that’s too big for him but he forgot to return it, and seasonal pajama pants. the pants always seem to mismatch the season, he wore the snowflake ones during summer, and now he’s wearing the halloween ones in winter?
the shirt itself is also mundanely mysterious. nobody can really place the logo on it, and he doesn’t really remember where he got it from either. it doesn’t bother him too much until it’s pointed out to him

Top 5 WORST fabrics
1. that fuckign. synthetic knit that some of the sport coats at work are made of. I don't know what it's called but I hate it. It's polyester with barely any stretch and is. so. DENSE. Worst thing to alter. Damn near impossible to get a pin or a hand sewing needle through, and sometimes it makes the machine skip stitches. A lot of the sport coats are half lined, and if you bring me one of those ones with the side seams pinned to take in, I will just take in the centre back seam instead because I DO NOT want to hand sew the lining back down to both entire side seams on that horrible impenetrable bullshit fabric. Sometimes it has a woven looking pattern printed on it, as if to mock me.
Some of the shirts at work are made of a slightly softer version of the same stuff, and I once tried to mend a small hole in one of them using a zigzag stitch and it shredded the fabric and ruined the shirt. They had to go find the customer an identical replacement shirt, because the stupid fabric couldn't hold up to a few tightly spaced zig zags. Bullshit, bullshit garbage fabric. I hate it, I hate it I hate it I hate it. Everyone should stop manufacturing it immediately. Stop making it and destroy the formulas so nobody can ever make it again. It's not even a particularly bad texture to touch, relatively speaking, it's just a nightmare to sew.
2. Faux fur. To be fair, there is some decently nice faux fur out there, but most of it is just such an icky plastic-y texture and it sheds so much. So so much, and then you're worried about breathing in floating fuzzies of plastic. And it can also be really hard to get a pin or needle through the base fabric, depending on what kind it is. I remember I had some scraps of white faux fur that I used for craft projects as a small child, and it was like that, and there was some kind of finishing (presumably to help glue the hairs in place) that made the back of the fabric all crusty. It's the kind of thing that's awful to touch if your hand is even the slightest bit sweaty. I dislike polyester fleece for the same reason. No fleece sheets or pyjamas for me, ick!
3. Really loosely woven boucle. Who would invent a fabric that frays so gotdamn much? Look at this. (image source) Awful. Falls apart if you sneeze at it. Unpleasant texture, and not even nice to look at. (Yes I chose an ugly picture on purpose, but it's not a look I like even if it is in nice colours.)

Where's your structural integrity?? You can have weird lumpy fabric and still weave it decently tight! Especially if it's wool and you felt it a little bit. I shortened a skirt for a co-worker and it was made of similar stuff, and I was worried I'd damage it because it was so loose and shifty. What happens if you walk by a tree or something and snag a thread? Whole thread comes out and deforms a big patch of fabric? Well that's what you get for making all your threads just acquaintances instead of best friends. (I hate poly chiffon for similar reasons.)
4. Poly/cotton blends, because they feel like a betrayal. You could have been 100% cotton but you aren't :( Could have been a nice comfy shirt or nightgown that could eventually be used for firestarters once it's too worn out, but no, can't use blends for kindling because the polyester part melts into nasty little black plastic blobs. Not like 100% cotton or linen, which burns nicely and leaves basically no ash. And I hate pilling, horrible hell texture, and synthetics tend to pill way more.
5. Anything with glitter on it, because it's contagious. Small sequins are also bad (see blog post linked in poly chiffon line) but at least they're sewn on and only come off where you cut them. I think we as a species have moved past the need to glue glitter onto fabric, because it does not stay glued. We have foil print, and metallic ink, and beading and rhinestones and metallic thread and all kinds of other ways to do the sparklyshiny. No more sticking glitter on things that might go in the wash.
Generally speaking I dislike synthetics and Bad textures, though everyone's opinion of bad textures is different. I'm also not fond of stretch knit, but it has its uses.

TF Rise of the Beasts: A Basic Guide to Writing/Drawing for Fashion in 1994
Someone sent me a message that has now disappeared (!!) which was asking for some tips on what was stylish in 1994, for the purposes of writing a time period accurate ROTB fic.
I'm sorry I don't remember their username otherwise I'd tag them, but I figured I'd provide some notes here just in case anyone else might find it helpful for ROTB fic writing or fanart! :)
1994 Style: The Coolest Magazines
So as far as I remember, there were three big fashion/culture magazines at the time:
Sassy Magazine - This one was aimed mostly at women, but was hugely popular and would be a good place to look for styles for Elena!
i-D Magazine - This is a British publication but had international distribution by the 90s. Most of their early 90s issues featured fashion shoots from both large brands and indie fashion houses, with an emphasis on styling outfits. The articles were pretty good, and covered pop culture, music, and other similar topics. This one includes styles for both men and women, and was one of the only mainstream magazines to include what would now be recognised as queer fashion (they featured Boy George etc. as cover models, too).
The Face - This one is also British but had international distribution, mostly in large cities like LA and New York (which means it's fine to reference for ROTB's setting). Similar to i-D, it featured articles on fashion, music, culture, and highlighted some subculture styles which were harder to find in other more popular magazines like Vogue at the time. This included more "casual" outfits being featured, typically as part of style guides. This one had men and women's fashion, and also featured queer celebrities or genderbending style!
And of course, any magazines from 1994 would be good to look through-- Just keep in mind that magazines like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, etc. were primarily aimed at women only (most of the menswear mags for fashion were still finding their audience at this time), and typically only featured higher end fashion, so not a lot of it was actually reflective of what people were wearing on the street.
Look at Sewing Patterns!
For the best idea of fashion and style in terms of what the average person was wearing in 1994, look up sewing patterns!
Simplicity and McCall's brand sewing patterns provide the best idea of what most people were wearing on a day to day basis.
General Style Notes
Patterned vests were in style for all genders. Typically this was layered over a long sleeved shirt or turtleneck. Some guys would just wear a vest over a tank top or even just by itself, but that was more rare. The backs of the vests were typically left plain, so the pattern was often only on the front of the vest. Some vests were made of velvet, or thickly embroidered fabric.
Denim!!! Oh my god, people loved denim. Denim everything. Double denim (jeans and a jean jacket or a denim shirt) was a popular look, although this started to taper off gradually. Usually this was styled with a patterned vest, scarf, or accessorised with a felt or denim hat.
In terms of fit, everything was slightly long, or slightly baggy. Sometimes both. Coats were baggy in the arm and shoulder, which was a carry over from the 80s trend of shoulder pads. Shoulder pads persisted into 1995-1998, mostly in women's wear, although men's jackets and suits often had high or wide shoulders too.
1994 is where fuzzy fabrics and nylon/synthetic fabrics started getting popular; This is most noticeable in the windbreaker trend, in which a lot of windbreakers were nylon/polyester or made of textured cotton/poly blends.
Quick note on early 90s synthetic fabrics: They hadn't gotten the textures quite right yet, so even though there were some minor improvements on the late 80s synth textiles, most of these fabrics were still terribly scratchy and somewhat uncomfortable to wear, unless you had a long sleeved garment underneath. This is why you might see a lot of people wearing multiple layers of long sleeved shirts or jackets, even though it might seem excessive!
90s synthetic fabrics tended to be scratchy and crinkly, and could actually cause skin irritation in some people if you were sweating a lot--Which is why you mostly see winter clothing made out of this stuff, they were intended to only be worn in layers. Most 90s jackets that used synthetic fabrics were shell jackets, meaning only the outer layer was synthetic and the lining was either polyester or cotton in most cases.
Popular department store brands were Tommy Hilfiger, United Colours of Benetton, Moschino, and Burberry.
Popular department stores were Dillards, Burdines, JC Penny, Macy's, and Bloomingdales.
Popular runways in 1994 were Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood, which were partially influenced by 80s punk and the new Grunge trend.
Bucket hats for adults were starting to become more popular, but they were already popular in children's wear, so Kris could have a bucket hat!
Facial piercings were not common, although they were starting to get a little more popular around this time. Typically this was only a nose piercing-- Anything other than that would get you stared at and judged pretty harshly. Only subcultures like goths or punks had multiple facial piercings, or lip rings/eyebrow piercings, for the most part.
Tattoos were also less common, unless you were in a particular style subculture.
Belts were a very popular accessory, with large belts and belted coats being super popular. Thinner belts were often worn two at a time, or a thin belt with an extra long end left hanging down out of a beltloop. Most jeans were worn belted, with the shirt tucked in.
There was a fine line between fitted and baggy and just looking messy-- This is why belts were so popular, as it helped create more shaping to big coats and shirts. This became less of a thing as the bagginess went out of style, but for a while a lot of people wore belts out of habit, even after clothing trends switched over to being more fitted.
Flannel shirts became huge amongst all genders, and were typically tied at the waist and not buttoned or left fully open. Men would wear flannel shirts tied at the waist, with a solid block colour t-shirt underneath.
Graphic tees existed, but were not actually as popular as they are today; They were considered more of a kid/teenager thing. Band shirts were ever-popular, though! The print technology/quality at the time was a little rough, so expect any graphic tees to deteriorate quickly after a couple washes-- It was normal to see most letters/designs very patchy or flaking apart on graphic tees, which is part of why so few of them survive in vintage stores today unless they were printed in a more high end way.
Patterned fabrics were big as a statement piece, and not just for vests. A patterned shirt or jacket would be paired with block colours, and typically any accessories would be made out of the same patterned fabric so they'd match. For women's wear, headbands and scrunchies would be made to match a shirt or jacket. For men's wear, a belt would sometimes be made out of the same fabric as a patterned shirt.
Converse shoes remained ever-classic, and were one of the most popular sneaker/trainer brands. Nike was also super popular. Kris might have had some light-up Nikes, as they were a top item for kid's clothing. "Street shoes" in general were pretty popular as part of an athletic and every day look. High tops were the most popular, but platform sneakers started to get pretty popular, too.
Short shorts and baggy shorts!!! For all genders! This was the summer look of 1994, tank top and patterned shorts with a long sleeve t-shirt tied at the waist over top. Knee length baggy shorts in patterned fabrics were super popular. Short shorts were typically for the workout/jogging crowd, but were fairly popular outside of that during summers.
Knits were pretty popular, especially with synthetic wool and acrylic textiles becoming more common. Patterned sweaters/jumpers and chunky knits were among the top sellers, but this started to taper off a bit towards the mid-90s as it was a hold over trend from the late 80s. They still remained a commonly worn item, though.
In terms of sunglasses, funky tint lenses were starting to get popular, with blue, yellow, pink, and green tint lenses in bottlecap sunglasses or round lenses being a significant trend for a while. Round lenses for sunglasses were fashionable, but people also wore Ray Ban Aviators as a style classic. Smaller lenses were getting more and more popular in general, leading to oval glasses with wire frames becoming a common glasses frame style for both sunglasses and regular prescription wear. This was in contrast to the 80s, were large plastic chunky frames were popular.
The trend of making everything a little longer and baggier than it needed to be applied to most clothing items, including pants/trousers-- Jeans were often cut a little long, so rolling up the cuffs made a come back for a while, and yes, patterned baggy puffy trousers were popular for a couple seasons (although 1994 would have been near the end of that trend).
In terms of fine textured hair, feathered and fluffy hair was the goal, with volume being the biggest consideration for all genders. For black hair, Bantu knots got pretty popular for a while (you can see this reflected in some film/media well into the late 90s/early 2000s), and natural hairstyles were starting to make a big come back in contrast to the highly permed 80s.
For accessories, headbands, hats, and necklaces/bracelets were the big ones (as belts became less popular over time). Earrings tended to be plain hoops/studs or big chunky statement earrings, with very few options in between. Clip-on earrings were still really popular at this time. Fake small hoop earrings were also worn, instead of getting multiple ear piercings. For men, ties and scarves were the key accessories. Digital watches became popular accessories for all genders, and were part of both casual and professional wear.
Socks! White or black, almost always cotton. Sometimes white with a couple stripes at the top. Leg warmers were more of an 80s thing, although in some areas they were still worn in 1994, typically only as part of gym gear by this time but sometimes outside of that. Knee high socks started getting popular (especially paired with shorts or skirts), and socks in weird colours or patterns also started getting more popular, but they weren't super common and tended to be hard to find or more expensive. White socks with lace tops were popular among little girls and teens, whereas the sporty striped socks were more often found in men's departments.
Leggings as they exist today were not a thing outside of the gym, same with yoga pants-- Instead, it was just tights. Thick, relatively uncomfortable tights. These were usually office wear or for special occasions, or when someone felt like dressing nicely. The skin colour ones mostly went out of fashion for casual wear and were mostly for office attire; Thick black tights that you couldn't see through were the default for most casual outfits around this time. Some people still wore the skin colour ones for casual outfits, but the black ones were seen as more stylish for most of what was in style.
Colour palette: You had three main options -- Denim, Block Brights, and Earth Tones. There were of course other options, but these three are probably the most common. Pastels and block brights were especially popular for kids.
Makeup trended towards natural looks or Earth tones. Burgundy shades were popular lip colours, and browns were popular eyeshadows. If you wanted to look cutting edge, you went for metallic eyeshadows in blues, with a sharp orange-red lip colour-- But this was not an every day look! Blush was used, but sparingly, unless you were going out for an event. Subcultures had their own distinct makeup preferences, which did not generally permeate popular style guides. The modern internet makeup guru culture did not exist, and most people got their makeup advice from magazines, close friends, or TV shows. Avon makeup was popular, as was Clinique. Drug store brands included Eckerds, which was an affordable option if you couldn't go to a department store.
For perfumes, CK One and Tommy were among the most popular. Calvin Klein was a mainstay in perfumes, following the success of their perfume Obsession in 1985, which is a scent that most people will associate with that decade! A lot of people continued to use it well into the 90s.

He’s changing into the suit Marcus made him and by God, he had to admit, it was one of the best things he wore - and Marcus did give them a lot of stuff. He fixes his collar, then shrugs his shoulders so the jacket fits better, whistling low at his own reflection, “Damn,” and he fixes his hair, “Gorgeous,I think Marcus overdid himself with this.”
Her laughing reply comes from the bathroom where she’s changing herself “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” he turns his body around and nods in approval, “I look so good.” The suit Marcus had gifted Rooster was a masterpiece of tailoring and Rooster didn’t think he’d be surprised by the fashion designer and yet he was. It was evident that Marcus had spared no expense in ensuring that every detail was perfect, and Rooster couldn't help but admire the result as he looked at himself in the mirror.
The suit was a deep, rich shade of midnight blue, a color that brought the richness of Rooster's brown eyes. The fabric was breathable,lightweight and had a soft, smooth texture that felt incredible against his skin and it was
The jacket was a work of art, with a slim, tailored fit that accentuated Rooster's broad shoulders and lean physique. It featured a single-breasted design with a notch lapel, adding a touch of classic elegance to the ensemble. The buttons were made of polished black horn, and if he squinted he could see the ‘B’ engraved in it.
Rooster couldn't help but admire the attention to detail in the jacket's construction. The seams were expertly stitched, and the lining was a deep maroon silk with a subtle paisley pattern, adding a touch of flair to the otherwise classic design.
The trousers were a perfect match to the jacket. They were tailored to fit him like a second skin, with a slim, straight leg that elongated his frame. The trousers featured a flat front and a discreet zipper closure, maintaining a clean yet sleek look.
To complete the ensemble, Marcus had provided a crisp, white dress shirt made of the finest cotton. The shirt had a spread collar that framed Rooster's face perfectly and it opened just enough down his chest.
He looked like a famous actor. Damn.
Rooster had chosen a pair of black leather dress shoes to complement the suit, and they added the final touch of refinement. The shoes were polished to a high shine, and their sleek design completed the overall look of understated elegance.
The suit fit him perfectly, hugging his body in all the right places and making him feel like a million bucks. With a final adjustment of his hair , Rooster couldn't help but whistle in appreciation. "Damn," he muttered to himself, a smile playing on his lips. "I look so good."
Beatrice's laughter echoed from the bathroom where she was changing into her own outfit. "Well, you always do," she replied with a playful tone. "Marcus really outdid himself with this suit."
“You didn’t see it yet, gorgeous.”
“But I trust Marcus.”
Rooster nodded in agreement as he turned away from the mirror, adjusting his sleeves and straightening his shirt. "He really did," he said, his voice filled with gratitude. "I feel like a new man in this."
“Good.” she smiles, “Well,you ready to see me?”
“God,baby,always.”
Beatrice emerged from the bathroom, and Rooster couldn't help but let out a low whistle at the sight of her. She was wearing a stunning, form-fitting dress that complemented the suit perfectly. The dress was a deep shade of burgundy, a color that brought out the warmth in her eyes and the richness of her hair.
The dress featured a sweetheart neckline and delicate spaghetti straps, which added a touch of femininity to the overall look. The bodice was expertly tailored, hugging Beatrice's curves in all the right places before flowing into a sleek, floor-length skirt.
The skirt of the dress had a subtle mermaid silhouette,it flared out gently at the knee, allowing Beatrice to move with grace and poise. The fabric appeared to be a  combination of silk and chiffon,it was soft, it gave an ethereal quality that seemed to float around her.
Beatrice had chosen a pair of strappy black heels with a stiletto heel that added a few inches to her height. Her hair was styled in loose waves that cascaded down her shoulders, and her makeup was impeccable, light red lips and perfect eyeshadow in neutral shades.
Rooster couldn't tear his eyes away from his wife as he took in her breathtaking appearance. "Wow," he said, his voice filled with awe. "You look absolutely stunning,gorgeous. Holy shit."
Beatrice blushed at his compliment, a radiant smile gracing her lips. She approached him with a graceful stride, her eyes locked onto his. "And you look incredibly handsome, Roos," she replied, her voice filled with affection.
“Fuck, turn around, let me see the whole thing.” he grabs her hand before she could stop him and she laughs softly as he spins her around, “Fuck, fuck you look so beautiful.”
Beatrice laughed at Rooster's reaction, her cheeks tinged with a rosy blush. "You really like it?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine happiness.
Rooster nodded enthusiastically as he took in every detail of her outfit. "I love it,gorgeous," he said. "You're like a goddess in that dress."
Beatrice's smile widened, and she couldn't help but feel a surge of confidence, inhaling shakily - she was always so happy to hear his compliments even if he always said them. "Well, if you put it that way," she teased, "I might just have to wear it more often."
Rooster grinned mischievously, pulling her closer. "I wouldn't mind that one bit," he replied, his voice low and filled with desire. "You look absolutely irresistible."
“So do you.” she cups his chin and kisses his lips a few times, gently swiping some of her lipstick that stuck to his mouth, “But we gotta take Nikki to Shells…then go to Oda.” she sighs, running her hands down his shirt, fixing the already fixed buttons, “You nervous?”
He took a deep breath and met Beatrice's eyes after a few seconds. "Yeah, I'm a bit nervous," he admitted. "I mean, we don't really know what we're walking into, and that makes me uneasy. But we've faced worse together, and we'll get through this too."
Beatrice nodded, her fingers tracing the lines of his shirt as if trying to calm his nerves through touch. "You're right," she said, her voice gentle. "Yeah,we’ll be okay…we just…well if anything goes bad we can always just leave too.”
Rooster smiled at her,  "I know," he said, leaning in to press a soft kiss to her lips. "And that's what gives me strength. Now we better go before we both change our minds…or I do because my God you look so good." he takes a while to let her go, admiring his wife’s assets for a few seconds as she walks ahead of him, “Love you.”
“Love you too.” she giggles, disappearing in Nicole’s room. Bea says something for the little baby, then finally picks her up, meeting Rooster outside. Nikki looked a bit sleep, and a bit annoyed because she was woken from her nap,dropping her head on her mother’s shoulder.
"Hey there, birdie," Rooster said, leaning down to Nikki's level and scooping her up into his arms. "Are you ready to go to aunt Shells' house?"
Nikki blinked her sleepy eyes at her father, her tiny hands reaching out to grasp his shirt. Despite her drowsiness, a small smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she recognized her dad's face.
Beatrice smiled affectionately at the sight of Rooster and Nikki, her heart warmed by the scene. She adjusted Nikki in her arms, making sure the little one was comfortable. "She's definitely ready for a nap," Beatrice said with a soft chuckle. "But we'll see Aunt Shells first, okay, sweetheart? You are going to stay there tonight."
Nikki let out a sleepy coo, as if in agreement. She had a way of melting their hearts with her baby babble and innocent expressions.
Rooster nodded, picking Nikki with care from Beatrice as they made their way down the stairs. They said goodbye to the dogs, locked everything in the house and then finally entered the Bronco. The day was slowly transitioning into evening, casting a warm, golden glow over the neighborhood. 
Beatrice checked on Nicole who was already fast asleep on her seat, “Out like a light.” she tells her husband as he drives out of the garage. She’s currently checking the baby bag she prepared for when Nicole gets at Shells, pursing her lips, “I think I got everything.”
Rooster glanced over at Nicole in the back seat, a soft smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he saw his daughter sleeping soundly. "Looks like she's all tuckered out," he remarked, his voice filled with affection. "Must've been a busy day for her."
Beatrice nodded in agreement, her eyes filled with maternal warmth. "She had a lot of fun playing with her toys," she said, her tone gentle. "And she'll have even more fun with Aunt Shells."
Rooster focused on the road as they made their way to Shells' house, the familiar route taking them through the quiet streets of their neighborhood. He couldn't help but look over at the Haltons’ house and notice all the lights - and their car - were out.
"Bea," he said, his voice thoughtful, "They already left."
Beatrice turned her gaze towards Rooster, her brow furrowing in thought. "Yeah," she replied, her tone serious. "Seems rude to be there without us, but…I don’t really care."
Rooster nodded in agreement, his grip on the steering wheel tightening slightly. "It's like they have an agenda or something," he said. "We won’t be there long,gorgeous."
Beatrice let out a sigh, her expression troubled but she had a little smile on her face. "I know," she admitted. "As long as they don’t…I don’t know, act up, it’s fine.”
“Well, we don’t know about that.”
“Yea…we don’t.”
When they arrived at Shells' house, they were surprised to see Shells, pacing around with her hands on her hips, was waiting at the door with a smile on her face. She quickly hopped over to the slowly parking Bronco, leaning down on Beatrice’s side and almost shoving her head in.
Well she did shove her head in.
“Shells-” Bea tries to say but the blonde was already shoulders in.
"Hey there, guys," Shells smiles "You two look great!"
Rooster blinked as Shells greeted them with her usual unhinged enthusiasm. "Thanks, Shells," he replied, pointing at her. "You know you can open the door,right?"
Beatrice, despite the unexpected intrusion into her personal space, couldn't help but grin at Shells' energy. as unhinged as it was. "Oh it’s fine,Roos" she said, her tone appreciative. "Thanks for babysitting Nikki tonight."
Shells finally pulled herself out of the Bronco, straightening up with a proud grin. "No problem at all," she said, waving a dismissive hand. "I love spending time with Nicole, I’m the cool crazy aunt. Besides, it's a great excuse to have a little break from my own life."
Bea frowns a bit, “Everything okay?”
And her friend just waves her hand, “Yeah,yeah, just stuff. Nothing to worry, now!” she claps her hands together, “Bring me the child.”
Rooster walks out so he could open Beatrice’s door and in turn she can open the back door to pick Nicole up, “Don’t say it like that, oh my God. It’s like Nikki is the chosen one or something.” Bea says, hugging her daughter’s sleepy form to her side while Rooster grabs the baby bag before shutting the door.
Shells clapped her hands together excitedly. "Alright, little munchkin," she said with enthusiasm, "Auntie Shells is ready for a night of fun and adventure with you!"
Nicole, still half-asleep, gazed up at Shells with a drowsy expression. She stares at Shells for a few seconds, then yawns again, falling back on her mother’s shoulder.
Shells let out a delighted squeal. "That's right, sweetie!" she exclaimed, scooping Nicole up in her arms. "We're going to have a blast tonight!"
“She didn’t even say anything-”
Shells waved a dismissive hand, her attention fully on Nicole. "No need to thank me, Rooster" she replied. "I adore this little munchkin, and spending time with her is always a blast. You two go and enjoy your evening. And don't worry, I've got everything under control." and she picks Nicole up from Bea while grabbing the baby bag as well, “We’ll have a lot of fun.”
Bea nodded appreciatively, trusting Shells completely. "We'll make it up to you, Shells," she said, one hand over her heart. "You're a lifesaver."
With Nicole in Shells' capable hands, Rooster and Beatrice made their way back to the Bronco and climbed in. Shells waved her hand - and Nicole’s- as they drove away, their figures getting smaller and smaller as they left.
 As they drove to the restaurant,however,the anticipation in the car was palpable, and Rooster couldn't help but glance over at Beatrice, dropping his irises down her body, down that dress. She looked stunning in her elegant dress, and she still had no idea of the power she had over him.
"You know,gorgeous," he said, his voice filled with warmth, "you look even more beautiful tonight."
Beatrice smiled at his compliment, running her hands through her hair. "Flattery will get you everywhere, LC" she replied playfully, reaching over to place a gentle hand on his thigh.
Rooster chuckled at her response, his hand covering hers and giving it a reassuring squeeze. "I'm just stating the truth," he said sincerely. "You take my breath away every time."
“Oh,Berlin?”
“It’s a great song.” he smirks, “And it fits.”
As they arrived at the restaurant, they took a while to finally get out. He inhales, looking over at her as she tries to see the Haltons’ car anywhere, “...ready?” and she nods, chewing her lower lip, “Alright, let’s go.”
A valet took their car as soon as they stepped out, and they made their way inside. The hostess greeted them warmly,even tilting her head because ‘she knew them’ “Are you here with company?”
“Yes, the Haltons.” he didn’t seem happy sharing that, “They are the ones who had the reservations ready.”
“Oh,yes, right this way then.” The hostess led them through the upscale restaurant, past tables adorned with elegant diners savoring their meals.A grand piano sat in the corner, and a talented pianist played classical melodies, setting the perfect backdrop for an evening of fine dining.
“That’s new.” Rooster mutters, “Nice piano too.”
Beatrice looks over to where it was as Rooster slides his fingers through hers, never letting her hand go as they follow the hostess,”They did some restoration, that area was closed the last time we got here.” she pointed out, “And they have more fish.”
“That they do.”
As they approached the private dining area where the Haltons were seated, not so different from the seat they took before when they were dating, Rooster and Beatrice couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. Clawing up their spines almost.
Mark and Miranda Halton were already seated at a round table covered in crisp white linen. The table was adorned with elegant floral arrangements, and there was a bottle of sake in the center. The couple rose to their feet as Rooster and Beatrice approached, offering polite smiles.
"Rooster, Beatrice," Mark greeted them, his tone courteous. "Thank you for joining us this evening."
Miranda added her own words of welcome. "Yes, it's wonderful to have you both here," she said, her voice sweet but tinged with something Rooster and Beatrice couldn't quite place. Her eyes dropped to Beatrice’s body, “Oh, wow, would you look at that.” she waves her hand, almost jokingly, “You can almost say it’s a designer brand!”
Beatrice parted her lips, “Well it is-” but Rooster gently squeezed her hand and gave her a soft look. One that said ‘let’s not share too much yet’ and she nodded, “Thank you…Miranda. You look great as well.”
She giggles, “Always, dear.” she then turned to the hostess, “You can go now.” the tone made both of them bristle immediately. Bea was quick to add a ‘thank you!’ before the girl was too far away.
Rooster and Beatrice exchanged a brief look before taking their seats. He pulls the chair for her, ignoring the ‘aw,adorable’ from Miranda and leaning down to fix her hair…but in reality he was just whispering something in her ear, “This is going to suck ass.” he says, finally sitting down himself, arm on the back of Bea’s chair protectively, eyes narrowing to the sake bottle in the center.
“Oh this,” Miranda waves her hand as she and Mark sit down as well, “This is just a little something we thought you’d enjoy. It’s very expensive.”
Translation: it’s obvious you two can’t buy it.
Rooster couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. "Expensive sake, huh?" he remarked, his tone casual. "That's quite the gesture."
Mark smiled, his eyes glinting with something that Rooster couldn't quite decipher. "We thought you both might appreciate it," he replied, his tone smooth. "It's a rare vintage, one of our favorites."
Beatrice nodded in polite appreciation, hands on her lap "Thank you, that's very kind," she said, her voice measured. “I…we love sake,right Roos?”
“Yeah.” he mutters, “I won’t drink it though,I’m driving tonight.”
“Oh come on,”Mark smirks, “We are friends here,I’m sure Beatrice can drive,can’t you Beatrice?”
Beatrice offered a polite smile, waving her hand a bit. "Oh,ah thank you for the offer, Mark," she replied, "but we've decided that Rooster will be the designated driver tonight. Safety first, you know."
"Yep," he added, "we want to make sure we get home safely."
And if it was up to him, as soon as they could leave.
