“There must be some other place you liked to go.”
He hums, burying his face in the pillow, barely awake when he hears Bea’s voice, “Hmmm, what?’ he asks, they got back from the beach a while ago and they just flopped on the bed…amongst other things, honestly, and now Rooster was happily spent, watching his wife wander around wearing nothing but the robe the hotel had given them.
“You showed me the beach, are there any other places?’ she smiles sweetly, tilting her head at him.
Rooster blinked, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep as he propped himself up on his elbows to look at Beatrice. Her smile was infectious, and he couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth in his chest at the sight of her.
"Oh, uh, yeah," he replied, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand, "There's this hiking trail not too far from here. It leads to a secluded waterfall. It's...really beautiful."
Beatrice's eyes lit up with excitement at Rooster's words, her curiosity piqued by the prospect of exploring another hidden gem with him. "That sounds amazing," she exclaimed, "I'd love to check it out. When do you want to go?"
Rooster grinned, feeling a sense of anticipation building within him at the thought of sharing another adventure with Beatrice. "How about tomorrow morning?" he suggested eagerly, "We can pack a picnic and make a day of it."
Beatrice nodded enthusiastically, her smile widening at the prospect of spending the day exploring with Rooster by her side. "Sounds perfect," she agreed, "I can't wait."
“We never hiked together.” he mutters “I dunno why.”
She shrugs “Time? Perhaps. Maybe that’s a reason, we are both really busy and with the kids now, time is of the essence.”
Rooster nodded in agreement, a hint of regret tugging at his heart as he considered Beatrice's words. "Yeah, time seems to slip away from us sometimes," he admitted softly, "But I'm glad we're making the effort to spend more time together now."
Beatrice smiled at Rooster's sentiment, her heart swelling with love for the man beside her. "Me too," she murmured, reaching out to take his hand in hers, "Our time together is precious, and I want to make the most of every moment. Especially now that you are calmer"
Rooster squeezed Beatrice's hand gently, his gaze softening as he looked into her eyes. "You make me calmer.”
She smiles more, kissing his forehead ‘...are you okay now? Are you feeling better than before?”
Rooster sighed contentedly, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders at Beatrice's gentle touch. He leaned into her hand , relishing the warmth of her presence as he took a moment to collect his thoughts.
"Yeah, I'm feeling better," he replied honestly, his voice filled with gratitude, "Being here with you, it's like...everything else just fades away. You have a way of calming me like no one else can."
Beatrice smiled, her heart swelling with love for the man beside her. She brushed a strand of hair away from Rooster's forehead, her touch gentle and reassuring. "I'm glad," she murmured softly, "You mean everything to me, Roos. I just want you to be happy."
"I am happy," he assured her, his voice filled with sincerity, "Because I have you. You're my happiness, Bea. Always."
She leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to his palm before snuggling closer to him."I love you, Roos," she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper, "And if you are okay, then i am okay.” she says softly, letting her bare chest touch his equally bare arm.
Rooster pulled Beatrice into a warm embrace, he pressed a tender kiss to her forehead, his heart overflowing with gratitude for the woman who had captured his heart in a way he never thought possible.
"I love you too, Bea," he murmured, his voice filled with emotion, “And ditto.”
And in that moment, as they held each other close, Rooster and Beatrice knew that their love was a force to be reckoned with - unbreakable, unwavering, and eternal. And as they drifted off to sleep in each other's arms.
The next morning dawned bright and clear, the promise of a new day stretching out before them. Rooster and Beatrice woke up early, their excitement visible as they prepared for their hike to the secluded waterfall.
They packed a picnic basket with sandwiches, fruit, and snacks, along with a blanket to sit on by the waterfall, just a little grocery run outside the hotel. Rooster checked the weather forecast one last time, ensuring that they were prepared for whatever nature had in store for them.
"Ready to go, gorgeous?" Rooster asked, a grin tugging at the corners of his lips as he held out his hand to Beatrice.
Beatrice grinned back at Rooster, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she took his hand in hers. "Ready as I'll ever be," she replied eagerly, "You think we’ll need anything else?”
Rooster shook his head, a smile playing on his lips as he squeezed Beatrice's hand gently. "Nah, we've got everything we need right here," he said warmly, his gaze softening as he looked into her eyes, "Just you, me, and the great outdoors."
"I couldn't agree more," she murmured, her voice filled with anticipation, "Let's go then.”
And with that, they set off . It wasn’t that long until they got on their hike, the sun warm on their faces as they followed the winding trail through the forest. The air was alive with the sound of birds chirping and leaves rustling in the breeze, the scent of pine filling their lungs with every breath.
Rooster pointed out different plants and animals along the way, his enthusiasm infectious as he shared his knowledge of the natural world with Beatrice.
Beatrice listened intently, hanging on Rooster's every word as she marveled at the beauty of their surroundings and him. She couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the world around them, grateful for the opportunity to explore it with the man she loved by her side.
“...I love seeing how passionate you are about this,Roos.”
Rooster's smile widened at Beatrice's words, a warm glow spreading through his chest at her appreciation. He reached out to take her hand in his, his fingers intertwining with hers as they walked along the trail.
"I'm glad you're enjoying it, Bea," he replied softly, his voice filled with warmth, "I've always had a deep connection to nature. It's where I feel most at peace."
Together, they walked in companionable silence, lost in the beauty of their surroundings as they made their way deeper into the forest. The sun dappled through the canopy of trees, casting a warm glow over the forest floor as they followed the winding path.
After a while, they came to a clearing in the forest, the sound of rushing water echoing in the distance. Rooster's eyes lit up with excitement as he led Beatrice towards the sound, his heart racing with anticipation.
"We're almost there," he exclaimed eagerly, his voice filled with excitement, "Just a little further."
Beatrice smiled at Rooster's enthusiasm, her heart pounding with excitement as they approached the secluded waterfall. She could hear the sound of water cascading over rocks, the air alive with the scent of fresh water and damp earth.
And then, they emerged from the trees, and Beatrice gasped in awe at the sight before her. The waterfall tumbled over a rocky cliff, its crystal-clear waters sparkling in the sunlight as it crashed into a pool below.
"It's beautiful," she breathed, her voice filled with wonder, "Absolutely breathtaking."
Rooster grinned at Beatrice's reaction, his heart swelling with pride as he watched her take in the beauty of the waterfall. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close as they stood together on the edge of the pool, feeling the spray of water on their faces.
"I'm glad you like it," he murmured, pressing a tender kiss to Beatrice's temple, "It's one of my favorite places in the world."
“After the beach?”
“Close.’
She smiles, ‘How did you find this place? There’s no one here either.”
Rooster chuckled softly at Beatrice's question, "Ah, now that's a story," he replied, "You remember I told you I was a boy scout, right?’
“For a short while,yes.”
Rooster nodded, "Yeah, well, one summer camp, we went on a hiking trip through these woods," he explained, "And our scout leader showed us this hidden waterfall as a reward for completing the hike. I never forgot about it."
Beatrice's eyes widened with interest, captivated by Rooster's story as she listened intently. "So you've known about this place since you were a kid?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Rooster nodded, his smile widening as he looked down at Beatrice. "Yeah, it's been a secret spot of mine ever since," he admitted, "I used to come here whenever I needed to clear my head too, to be alone with my thoughts. But now, I'm glad to share it with you." he pauses “Stopped comin’ here after mom got sick, it was too far from the hospital…”
Beatrice's heart ached at Rooster's words, her eyes filling with sympathy as she reached out to take his hand in hers. She squeezed his hand gently, "I'm sorry, Roos," she murmured softly, her voice filled with compassion, "I can't imagine how hard that must have been for you."
Rooster smiled gratefully at Beatrice's words, and he squeezed her hand back, his gaze softening as he looked into her eyes. "It was tough," he admitted quietly, "But …it’s nice, to share this with you. It makes me happy to.”
Beatrice's heart swelled with love for the man beside her, her eyes shining with emotion as she leaned in to press a gentle kiss to Rooster's lips.  After a moment, Beatrice pulled away, her gaze lingering on Rooster's face as she spoke. "Thank you for sharing this place with me, Roos," she said softly, "It means more to me than you'll ever know."
Rooster smiled, his heart swelling with gratitude for the woman beside him. "I'm just glad I get to share it with you," he replied warmly, "You make everything better."
With that, they settled down by the pool, spreading out the blanket and unpacking their picnic basket. She was gentle as she set everything up and his heart was just so…filled.
He leans up on a fist, smiling at her as he sits down. She smiles confusedly, “What?”
Rooster shook his head, his smile widening at Beatrice's adorable confusion. "Nothing," he replied with a chuckle, "You are just fucking beautiful."
Beatrice blushed at Rooster's compliment, her cheeks flushing pink as she met his gaze with a shy smile. "You're not so bad yourself," she teased, her voice tinged with affection, "Pretty handsome for an old man."
Rooster laughed, the sound echoing through the clearing as he leaned in closer to Beatrice. "Old man, huh?" he teased, "Watch it, or I might just have to show you how much stamina this old man has."
Beatrice's eyes widened in mock horror, a playful grin tugging at the corners of her lips. "Is that a threat or a promise?" she shot back, her voice filled with amusement.
Rooster chuckled, his heart swelling with love for the woman beside him. He reached out to tuck a loose strand of hair behind Beatrice's ear, his touch gentle and tender. "Take it however you want, gorgeous," he replied with a wink, "But either way, I'm not letting you leave this waterfall without a proper kiss."
Beatrice laughed, the sound music to Rooster's ears as she leaned in to press her lips to his. They kissed softly at first, their lips moving together in perfect harmony as they lost themselves in the moment.
And then, the kiss deepened, becoming more passionate as Rooster wrapped his arms around Beatrice and pulled her closer. They melted into each other, their bodies pressed together as they shared a moment of pure bliss.
As they finally pulled away, Beatrice rested her head against Rooster's chest, her heart pounding with love for the man beside her.
Rooster pressed a tender kiss to Beatrice's forehead, his heart overflowing with gratitude for the woman who had captured his heart in a way he never thought possible. “This is kinda romantic, ain’t it?”
‘Kinda?”
‘Well,yeah, the waterfall and such.”
She smiles up at him, “Everything you do is romantic, Roos.”
"Well, I aim to please," he replied with a playful grin, "But I gotta admit, Mother Nature deserves most of the credit for this one."
Beatrice chuckled softly, her eyes twinkling with amusement as she snuggled closer to Rooster. "True," she conceded, "But you know what they say, it's not where you are, but who you're with that makes the moment special."
Rooster's grin widened at Beatrice's sentiment, feeling a rush of warmth flood his chest at her words. He leaned in to press a tender kiss to her forehead, his lips lingering against her skin as he whispered softly, "Keep doin’ that and you just might make me blush.”
“Good.”
He chuckles, kissing her forehead"Care for a sandwich, gorgeous?" he asked, his voice warm with affection.
Beatrice smiled back at Rooster, accepting the sandwich with a grateful nod. "Thank you, Roos," she replied, her voice soft, "You always know how to take care of me."
He smiles even more, “Always,gorgeous.”

They stay there for a while, just…enjoying the silence. It’s been a while since they stayed like that, just sitting together, watching the ocean. She hums, pressing her temple to his shoulder, looking at him from time to time - he cried for a few minutes ever since they got there and she couldn’t blame him, really. It was a lot that happened in…hours.
From seeing old friends to having some weird guy mention his mom…she doesn’t blame him. “Hey.” she calls softly and he looks down at her, a small smile on his face “You feeling better?”
Rooster nodded, his smile widening as he looked into Beatrice's eyes. "Yeah, I am," he replied softly, his voice filled with warmth, "Being here with you, it...it helps."
Beatrice's heart swelled with love at Rooster's words, a soft smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "I'm glad," she murmured, reaching up to brush a stray lock of hair away from his forehead, "You deserve to feel at peace."
Rooster leaned into Beatrice's touch, closing his eyes as he savored the warmth of her hand against his skin. "Thank you, Bea," he whispered, his voice barely above a whisper, "For everything."
Beatrice smiled, her heart overflowing with love for the man sitting beside her. "You don't have to thank me, Roos," she murmured softly, "I'll always be here for you, no matter what, you know that."
They sat together in silence, the sound of the waves lapping against the shore serving as a soothing backdrop to their thoughts. Rooster felt a sense of gratitude wash over him as he basked in the warmth of Beatrice's presence, his heart filled with a profound sense of peace.
After a while, Beatrice broke the silence, her voice soft and tentative. "Roos," she began, "Do you want to talk about what happened back there?"
Rooster's smile faltered slightly at Beatrice's question, his brow furrowing as he struggled to find the right words. "I...I'm not sure," he admitted quietly, "It's just...a lot to process, you know?"
Beatrice nodded in understanding, her hand reaching out to squeeze Rooster's reassuringly. "I know, Roos," she murmured softly, "But I'm here for you, whenever you're ready to talk about it."
Rooster sighed, his shoulders slumping slightly as he leaned back against the cliff. "It's just...seeing John and the others, it brought back memories that I'd rather forget," he confessed, his voice tinged with sadness, "And then him mentioning my mom...it just hit a nerve, you know?...a big one"
Beatrice's heart ached at the pain in Rooster's voice, her fingers tracing comforting circles on his hand as she listened to him speak. "I know.”
“She wouldn’t want me to lose it.”
“Well…you didn’t lose it. You just lunged at him, but you didn’t hit him.”
He pursed his lips “I wanted to though.”
Beatrice's heart sank at Rooster's admission, her own frustration bubbling up at the thought of someone mentioning his mother in such a careless manner. She reached out to cup Rooster's face in her hands.
"I understand, Roos," she murmured softly, "But you're stronger than that. You didn't let it consume you, and that's what matters."
Rooster nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips at Beatrice's words. "Yeah, you're right," he agreed quietly, "I guess I just...I don't know. It's hard to let go of the past sometimes."
Beatrice squeezed Rooster's hand “I know it is, Roos, don’t I know it" she replied softly, "But you are doing really well…therapy has been helping you a lot. Dr.Paulson would be proud of you.”
Rooster's smile softened at Beatrice's mention of Dr. Paulson, the therapist who had been instrumental in helping him navigate through his past traumas. "Yeah, Dr. Paulson has been a godsend," he admitted gratefully, "I don't know where I'd be without him."
Beatrice nodded in agreement, her heart swelling with gratitude for the compassionate therapist who had helped Rooster heal. "He's helped you  in more ways than one," she murmured softly, "I'm just grateful that he came into our lives when he did."
Rooster leaned his head against Beatrice's, "Me too," he murmured softly, "You know…”
“Hm?”
“I think this is what it is,right? This…” he arches his brows “I feel fulfilled.I got you,I got the kids…I got the job— now the promotion.I’ve been angry for many years and I never felt like I was doing enough. It was fucking empty.”
“...Roos…”
“When I met you, god.” his smile turns soft “I just felt–I wanted to be yours.”
Oh.
Oh.
Beatrice’s cheeks reddened. He never said that to her before. Her lips parted in surprise and her eyes widened “...w-what?”
Rooster's smile grew wider at Beatrice's flustered response, his heart swelling with affection for the woman sitting beside him. He reached out to take her hand in his, his touch gentle and reassuring.
"I wanted to be yours," he repeated softly, his voice filled with sincerity, "From the moment I met you, I knew that you were someone special. Someone I wanted to build a life with."
Beatrice felt her heart flutter at Rooster's words, her cheeks flushing even brighter as she met his gaze with wide eyes. "Roos," she whispered hoarsely, her voice thick with emotion, "I...I don't know what to say. You did mentioned you wanted me to be yours but…"
“I know…I know…” Rooster smiled, his thumb gently caressing the back of Beatrice's hand as he leaned in closer to her. "You don't have to say anything," he murmured softly, "Just know that you've changed my life in ways I never thought possible."
Beatrice felt tears prickling at the corners of her eyes, her chest tight with overwhelming emotion. She leaned into Rooster's embrace, resting her head against his shoulder as she allowed herself to revel in the warmth of his love.
"I love you, Roos," she whispered softly, her voice barely above a whisper, "Gosh,I can’t believe you are making me cry!!”
"Are you okay?" he asked softly, his voice filled with concern, "I didn't mean to make you cry."
Beatrice smiled through her tears, her heart overflowing with love for the man sitting beside her. "I'm more than okay," she replied softly, "I'm just...overwhelmed by everything you've said. you are so sweet, Roos."
Rooster's smile widened at Beatrice's words, his heart swelling with affection for the woman who had captured his heart. "I'm glad," he murmured, "Because you mean the world to me…Do you want to stay here a little longer? We could watch the sunrise together."
Beatrice's eyes lit up with excitement at Rooster's suggestion, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "I would love that," she replied eagerly, "It sounds perfect. I don’t want to get back to the hotel yet."
Rooster grinned, his heart swelling with happiness at Beatrice's enthusiasm. He squeezed her hand gently before rising to his feet, pulling her up with him.
"Then let's stay," he said, his voice filled with excitement, "I want to watch the sunrise with you by my side."
It doesn’t take long for the sky to begin to lighten with hues of pink and orange, Rooster felt a sense of peace settle over him. He leaned his head against Beatrice's, his heart overflowing with love for the woman who had become his everything.
"It's beautiful," Beatrice murmured softly, her eyes fixed on the horizon, "Absolutely breathtaking."
Rooster nodded in agreement, his gaze never leaving Beatrice's face as he watched the sunrise reflected in her eyes. "Not as beautiful as you," he whispered, his voice filled with reverence.
Beatrice blushed at Rooster's words, her heart fluttering in her chest at the intensity of his gaze. She leaned into him, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips as they watched the first rays of sunlight break through the clouds.
They sat together in silence, lost in the beauty of the moment as they watched the sunrise together. And in that moment, Rooster knew that he was exactly where he was meant to be - with Beatrice by his side, watching the world awaken with a sense of wonder and awe.
As the sun rose higher in the sky, casting its warm glow over the ocean, Rooster felt a sense of renewal wash over him. He knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, as long as he had Beatrice by his side, he could face them with courage and strength.
"Thank you for being here with me," he whispered softly, his voice filled with gratitude, "For everything."
Beatrice smiled, her heart overflowing with love for the man sitting beside her. "Thank you for loving me.”
“You are easy to love,gorgeous.”
“So are you.”
He chuckles softly, “You never had any doubts about me?”
Beatrice shook her head, a soft smile playing on her lips as she looked into Rooster's eyes. "Never," she replied, "From the moment I met you, I knew there was something special about you. Something that drew me to you like a magnet."
Rooster's heart swelled with affection at Beatrice's words, his gaze softening as he reached out to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Yeah?”
“Of course.”
“...I mean,I know you were attracted to me and if we weren’t such chickens we’d be together before but…” he hums, “I dunno,it just makes me happy. Y’know, seeing you working at the bar was always great.”
She grins, kissing his cheek, “You wanna know one of my favorite memories at the bar before we dated?”
"Tell me," he urged softly, a playful grin tugging at the corners of his lips, "I'm all ears."
Beatrice chuckled, her cheeks flushing with excitement as she recounted the memory. "Okay, so remember that night when  you and the guys showed up, being pilots and all.” he rolls his eyes with a smile, “And then– gosh, feels weird now, but I was like, admiring you.”
“Oh?How so?”
Beatrice blushed at the memory, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment at her own admission. "Well," she began, "I may have been...checking you out from behind the bar. You know, admiring the view."
Rooster's grin widened at Beatrice's confession, a playful glint in his eyes as he leaned in closer to her. "Is that so?" he teased, his voice filled with amusement, "I never knew I had such an admirer."
Beatrice rolled her eyes playfully, swatting Rooster's arm with mock indignation. "Oh, hush," she scolded, her laughter bubbling up between them, "You know you liked the attention."
Rooster chuckled, pulling Beatrice closer to him as they shared a moment of shared laughter. "Maybe I did," he admitted, his tone softening as he looked into her eyes, "But you always ran away from me, I had no idea then.”
Beatrice's laughter faded into a warm smile as she leaned into Rooster's embrace, her gaze meeting his with affection. "Well, I…just was nervous, you know….
Rooster chuckled, his arm tightening around Beatrice's waist as he pulled her closer. "I always knew there was something special about you."
Beatrice's smile softened into a tender expression as she looked up at Rooster, her heart swelling with love for the man beside her. "And I always knew there was something special about you too," she murmured, her voice filled with sincerity.
As the sun rose higher in the sky, casting its warm glow over the beach, Rooster felt a sense of gratitude wash over him. Gratitude for Beatrice, for their love, and for the countless moments they had shared together.
"Gorgeous view.” but he wasn’t looking away from her “Sunrise too, but.”
“Roos.”
“What? I’m serious, why look at that when I can look at you?”
She scoffs softly, shaking her head and gently shoving his shoulder “You remain relentless.Lt.Commander.”
Rooster chuckled at Beatrice's playful retort, his heart swelling with affection for the woman beside him. He leaned in closer, pressing a tender kiss to her cheek before pulling her into a warm embrace.
"I can't help it," he replied with a grin, "You're just too beautiful to look away from."
Beatrice laughed softly, her heart fluttering at Rooster's words as she leaned into his embrace. She gazed up at him with adoring eyes, feeling a rush of warmth flood her chest at the intensity of his gaze.
"You're not so bad yourself, Lieutenant Commander," she teased, her voice filled with affection, "I guess I can tolerate your relentless charm."
Rooster grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief as he leaned in to capture Beatrice's lips in a tender kiss.

“Roos! Stop!”
He could barely remember anything besides her voice and many hands holding him back. His hand doesn’t hurt, but he knows he is holding John up by the collar, glaring down at him. Beatrice’s little hands hold on his bicep, “Roos,” he snaps out of it “Roos, please, stop.”
Luckily, no one in the bar seemed to care, It was much too noisy.
Rooster's grip on John's collar loosened as he slowly came back to himself, the red haze of anger dissipating as he registered Beatrice's voice,he took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heartbeat as he released his hold on John and took a step back.
John just babbled somewhat of an apology “Brad I’m so–”
“Shut up.” he growls, “Shut the fuck up,JOhn, Don’t you EVER talk about my mother, EVER!”
John fell silent at Rooster's harsh words, his eyes widening in shock at the intensity of his friend's anger. He took a step back, his hands raised in a gesture of surrender as he tried to gauge Rooster's reaction.
Rooster's chest heaved with each ragged breath as he struggled to regain his composure, his hands trembling slightly at his sides. He could feel the weight of Beatrice's gaze on him, Beatrice reached out to take Rooster's hand in hers, squeezing it gently as she met his gaze with a reassuring smile. "It's okay, Roos," she murmured softly, "I'm here. It’s okay."
He took another deep breath, the tension slowly easing from his muscles as he focused on the steady rhythm of his breathing.
John cleared his throat awkwardly, breaking the tense silence that had settled over them. "Look, man," he began tentatively, "I didn't mean to upset you. I was just...trying to lighten the mood."
Rooster's jaw clenched at John's words, his patience wearing thin as he struggled to find the right response. "Lighten the mood?" he repeated incredulously, "By bringing up my mother's death? That's not funny, John. It's not even close."
John flinched at Rooster's harsh tone, his gaze dropping to the floor in shame. "I know, man," he muttered quietly, "I messed up. I'm sorry."
Rooster sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair as he tried to process John's apology.Fucker. Motherfucker.
He wanted to pummel John’s face until he wasn’t recognizable.
Beatrice squeezed Rooster's hand reassuringly, her eyes filled with understanding as she met his gaze with a reassuring smile. "It's okay, Roos," she repeated softly, "We'll talk about this later. For now, let's just focus on getting to the hotel, okay?"
“Yeah, man,John is an assh-’ whoever tried to speak immediately stopped as both him and Bea glanced over “Er…I mean…I…”
Beatrice just guided Rooster outside, “Come on, let us get some air.”
Rooster followed Beatrice outside, the cool night air providing some relief from the stifling atmosphere of the bar. His mind was still reeling from the confrontation with John, his emotions swirling in a turbulent whirlwind of anger.
Beatrice squeezed his hand gently, she could sense the storm of emotions brewing within him, her heart aching for the pain he was clearly feeling."Roos," she said softly, breaking the silence between them, "I know that was hard for you. But you did the right thing by standing up for yourself."
Rooster nodded, his jaw clenched as he struggled to find the words to express the tumultuous storm raging inside him. "I just...I can't believe he would ask something like that," he murmured, his voice tinged with bitterness, "Especially after everything that happened."
"I'm here for you, Roos," she whispered softly, pressing a tender kiss to his cheek, "Whatever you need, I'm here."
Rooster melted into Beatrice's embrace, the warmth of her love wrapping around him like a comforting blanket. He buried his face in her shoulder, his tears mingling with her hair as he let himself finally release the pent-up emotions he had been holding back.
They stood there in the darkness, holding each other close as they weathered the storm together. And in that moment, Rooster felt a profound sense of gratitude for the woman who stood by his side through thick and thin.
Eventually, the anger subsided, leaving Rooster feeling emotionally drained but strangely lighter. He pulled back from Beatrice's embrace, his eyes meeting hers with a mixture of sadness and gratitude.
"Thank you, Bea," he said softly, his voice choked with emotion, "For always being there for me. I don't know what I would do without you."
Beatrice smiled through her own tears, her heart swelling with love for the man standing before her. "You don't have to thank me, Roos," she replied gently, "I love you, and I'll always be here for you. No matter what."
He smiles tiredly, rubbing his face “...I’m sorry,I didn’t want the night to, you know, end like this.”
“Well, the night isn’t over and, don’t apologize.” she whispers, rubbing his jawline “It’s not your fault.”
He makes a face, looking down at his feet…he looked so much younger now, like he was a teenager again, “...the last time I tried to hit someone like that, it was Hangman.”
“You…Jake? You wanted to punch Jake?”
“He was talking shit about Mav–” he rubs his face “I was confused then.”
Beatrice shook her head in amusement, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Well…I'm glad you didn't punch John," she teased gently, "I don't think that would have gone over too well."
Rooster chuckled, a hint of amusement sparkling in his eyes as he met Beatrice's gaze. "Yeah, you're probably right," he admitted sheepishly, "But it's hard not to want to knock some sense into him."
know, Roos," she murmured softly, “We'll figure out a way to deal with John without resorting to that."
“Like ignoring him?”
“Well,we’ll go back to Cali and he’ll stay here in Virginia so,” she smiles “It’s half done.”
Rooster chuckled at Beatrice's suggestion, feeling a sense of relief wash over him at the thought of leaving John behind in Virginia. "Sounds like a plan to me," he replied with a grin, "I think I can handle ignoring him from across the country."
Beatrice grinned back at him, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Good," she said firmly, "Because I don't think either of us needs any more drama in our lives right now."
Rooster nodded in agreement, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders at the prospect of leaving their troubles behind. "Yeah, you're right," he admitted with a sigh of relief, "Let's focus on enjoying the time we have left here and then get back to our lives in California with the kids."
"Hey, Bea," he said suddenly, breaking the comfortable silence between them, "I know a place where we can go. It's a secret spot from my childhood. I used to go there whenever I needed to be alone."
Beatrice's eyes lit up with curiosity, her interest piqued by Rooster's suggestion. "Really?" she exclaimed, "I'd love to see it! Lead the way."
Rooster smiled, taking her hand in his as he led her through the darkened streets towards the car. He just wanted to leave the bar - he even tossed some bills inside, not caring to talk to any of those people.
“Is it far?” she asks.
“A little, a car ride from here,” he smiles, kissing her forehead “I feel like we need a mental break.”
As they drove through the quiet streets of the city, Rooster felt a sense of peace settle over him. The tension of the earlier confrontation with John began to fade away, replaced by the soothing rhythm of the car and the comforting presence of Beatrice beside him.
Beatrice leaned her head against Rooster's shoulder, her hand resting gently on his thigh as they drove. She could feel the tension draining from his body, replaced by a sense of calm and contentment. It was moments like these that reminded her why she fell in love with him in the first place.
"Tell me about this secret spot of yours," she said softly, breaking the comfortable silence between them, "What's it like?"
Rooster smiled at Beatrice's curiosity, his eyes twinkling with excitement. "It's a secluded beach hidden away from the main tourist spots," he explained, "There's a rocky cliff that overlooks the ocean, and if you climb to the top, you can see for miles in every direction."
Beatrice's eyes widened with interest, her imagination already painting a vivid picture of the hidden beach in her mind. "That sounds amazing," she exclaimed, "I had no idea Virginia had any hidden beaches.”
Rooster smiled at Beatrice's enthusiasm, feeling a sense of anticipation building within him as they neared their destination. "Yeah, it's one of those hidden gems that only locals know about," he replied, "I used to go there to clear my head whenever things got tough."
Beatrice squeezed Rooster's hand reassuringly, her heart swelling with gratitude for the opportunity to share this special place with him. "I'm honored that you're sharing it with me," she murmured softly, "Thank you, Roos."
Rooster glanced over at Beatrice, his heart swelling with love for the woman sitting beside him. "You're welcome, Bea," he replied warmly, "I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather share it with."
It took some time but as soon as they arrived, Rooster felt a sense of nostalgia wash over him. The sight of the rocky cliff and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore brought back a flood of memories from his childhood.
Beatrice gazed out at the ocean, her eyes sparkling with wonder as she took in the breathtaking beauty of their surroundings. "It's even more beautiful than I imagined," she breathed.
Rooster smiled, feeling a sense of pride swell within him at Beatrice's reaction. "Yeah, it's pretty special," he agreed, "Come on, let's go check out the view from the top of the cliff."
They made their way up the rocky path to the top of the cliff, the sound of their footsteps mingling with the gentle roar of the ocean below. Rooster led the way, his hand guiding Beatrice over the uneven terrain as they climbed higher and higher.
Finally, they reached the top of the cliff, the expansive ocean stretching out before them as far as the eye could see. Beatrice gasped in awe, her eyes wide with wonder as she took in the breathtaking vista spread out before her.
"It's incredible," she whispered softly, her voice filled with reverence, "I've never seen anything like it."
Rooster smiled at Beatrice's reaction, feeling a sense of joy welling up inside him at the sight of her happiness. "I'm glad you like it," he murmured, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her close, "It's always been a special place for me."
“Did you come here often?”
He hums, pressing his chin on top of her head “...once I learned how to drive,I found this spot. I couldn’t stay here long because of everything. But,I love it here.” he smiles “...kinda reminds me when you showed me your spot back at your aunt’s vineyard.”
Beatrice smiled, the memory of their time at her aunt's vineyard flooding back to her. "Yeah, that was a special moment," she agreed softly, "I'm glad we have these places to escape to when things get tough."
Rooster nodded in agreement, his gaze lingering on the horizon as he took in the beauty of the ocean stretching out before them. "Yeah, me too," he murmured, "It's like our own little slice of paradise."
She smiles looking back at him, rubbing his arm as she sighs “...are you okay?”
Rooster turned to meet Beatrice's gaze, his eyes softening with affection as he took in the concern etched on her face. He reached out to brush a stray lock of hair away from her forehead, his touch gentle and reassuring.
"Yeah, I'm okay," he replied softly, his voice filled with warmth, "Just...thinking about everything that's been going on lately. It's been a lot to process."
Beatrice nodded in understanding, "I know, Roos," she murmured softly, "...you know you did great, right?”
Rooster smiled gratefully at Beatrice's words, her reassurance washing over him like a warm embrace. "Thanks, gorgeous," he said sincerely, "I know it is…a lot.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“I do worry though,I know…” he sighs ‘Our life has been so…fucking insane?”
Beatrice nodded "Yeah," she agreed softly, "It has been...challenging, to say the least. But we've always managed to get through it together."
Rooster's gaze softened at Beatrice's comforting words, "Yeah," he murmured, pulling her closer to him, "Together."
They stood together in companionable silence, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore serving as a soothing backdrop to their thoughts. Rooster found solace in the steady rhythm of the ocean, the vastness of the sea offering a sense of perspective amidst the chaos of their lives.
After a while, Beatrice broke the silence, her voice soft and tentative. "Roos," she began, "You know if you want–’ the way he tensed up, she could hear him inhaling and exhaling choppily, she knew what that meant ‘...Honey…you can cry.”
Rooster's breath caught in his throat at Beatrice's words, he blinked back tears, his chest tightening with emotion as he struggled to find the words to respond.
"I...I don't know if I can," he admitted quietly, his voice thick with emotion, "It's been a weird but good night,I–.’
Beatrice reached out to cup Rooster's face in her hands, her touch gentle and reassuring. "It's okay, Roos," she murmured softly, "You don't have to hold it all in anymore.Let it go.”
Rooster felt a lump form in his throat at Beatrice's words, his heart overflowing with gratitude. He leaned into her touch, closing his eyes as he allowed himself to surrender to the overwhelming flood of emotions that threatened to consume him.
"I'm scared, Bea," he whispered hoarsely, his voice barely above a whisper, "Scared of what might happen if I let myself feel everything that's been building up inside me."
He looked so young.
Beatrice's heart broke at the raw vulnerability in Rooster's voice, her own eyes filling with tears as she held him close. "I know, Roos," she murmured softly, "But I'm here for you"
Rooster nodded, his grip on Beatrice's hand tightening as he drew strength from her unwavering presence. "Thank you, Bea," he whispered, "For everything." and he dropped his head on her shoulder…and sobbed as loudly as he could.

How was it going so far???
Alright.
He was nursing himself to some punch,non-alcoholic, they still had to go back to the hotel after all. He was sitting on the corner as Beatrice busied herself in getting some water instead of punch, his smile widening as she looks back at him, “I got some lemon water.” she announces, holding the glass “It’s nice, you want some?”
Rooster's smile softened at Beatrice's thoughtful gesture, "Sure, honey," he replied, accepting the glass with a grateful nod, "Thanks."
Beatrice returned his smile, her eyes shining with affection as she watched him take a sip of the refreshing lemon water. As they stood together, sipping their drinks and chatting quietly, Rooster's mind wandered back to their earlier conversation with Jason. "You know," Rooster said suddenly, breaking the comfortable silence between them, "It's funny how life works sometimes. Meeting old friends like Jason...it's like stepping back in time."
Beatrice nodded in agreement, "Yeah, it really is," she murmured softly, "It's strange how certain moments can transport you back to a different time and place."
Rooster took another sip of his punch, feeling a sense of nostalgia wash over him as he reminisced about their past. "Do you ever miss it?" he asked quietly, his gaze drifting to the dance floor where couples swayed to the music, "The way things used to be?"
Beatrice sighed softly, her heart heavy with longing for the carefree days of their youth. "Sometimes," she admitted with a wistful smile, "But then I remember how far I’ve come since then. And I wouldn't trade where we are now for anything."
"Me neither," he replied softly, reaching out to take her hand in his, "I'm grateful for every moment we've shared, even the difficult ones."
Beatrice squeezed his hand gently, her eyes shining with love and gratitude. "Me too," she murmured, leaning in to press a tender kiss to his lips, "I love you, Rooster. Always."
Rooster's heart skipped a beat at Beatrice's words, overwhelmed by the depth of emotion in her voice. "I love you too, Beatrice," he whispered, his voice filled with sincerity, "Forever and always." he leans down to kiss her forehead.
Weird to have a romantic moment when Get Low by Lil Jon started playing.
Beatrice smiles up at him, “Are you having fun?”
He hums, hugging her close to press his lips to her forehead “...you know…I am,a little. It's definitely...an experience," he replied, his eyes scanning the room as the pulsating beat of the music filled the air.
The music continued to pulse around them, the energy of the crowd infectious as they danced together in the dimly lit room. Rooster held Beatrice close, his hands tracing gentle circles on her back as they watched the crowd.
It was…something, but at least those people were having fun.
"Hey, you know what?" Rooster said suddenly, his voice low and intimate as he looked into Beatrice's eyes, "I'm really glad we came here tonight. It's been...nice."
Beatrice smiled up at him, her eyes sparkling with affection. "Me too," she murmured softly, "It's been a wonderful night, I’m glad you are having fun.”
Rooster's smile widened at Beatrice's words,he held her a little tighter, kissing her forehead, thanks gorgeous. At some point, the DJ switched up the music, transitioning from upbeat dance tracks to slower, more romantic tunes. Rooster pulled Beatrice closer, "Remember this song?" Rooster murmured softly, his voice barely above a whisper as he recognized the familiar melody.
Beatrice nodded, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she leaned into him. "Of course I do," she replied, her voice soft and tender, "It was one of the first songs you played on the piano for me.”
“Yeah…’ he smirks, holding out his hand “Shall we?”
Beatrice's heart fluttered at Rooster's invitation, a warm glow spreading through her chest as she took his hand. She let him lead her to the center of the dance floor, their movements fluid and graceful as they swayed to the music.
As they danced, Beatrice couldn't help but lose herself in the moment, the world around them fading away as she focused solely on Rooster. His touch was electrifying, sending shivers down her spine as they moved together in perfect harmony.
Rooster held Beatrice close, his arms wrapped protectively around her as they moved to the rhythm of the music. He pressed his forehead against hers, his breath mingling with hers as they shared a tender moment together.
Beatrice gazed up at Rooster, her eyes shining with love and adoration as she lost herself in his gaze. In that moment, surrounded by the soft glow of the dance floor lights, she felt like the luckiest woman in the world.
The song came to an end, but Rooster didn't let go of Beatrice. Instead, he pulled her closer, his lips brushing against hers in a gentle kiss. Beatrice melted into his embrace, her heart overflowing with love for the man who held her in his arms.
"I love you," Rooster murmured against her lips, his voice filled with sincerity.
Beatrice smiled up at him, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "I love you too," she whispered back, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Thanks for…being here,by the way.”
“You don’t have to thank me,”
“I know but…” he frowns “You know I was very hesitant in coming here.”
Beatrice gently brushed a stray strand of hair away from Rooster's forehead, her touch tender as she looked into his eyes. "I understand," she said softly, "But I'm glad you decided to come."
Rooster's expression softened at Beatrice's words, a sense of warmth spreading through him. He leaned in to press a kiss to her forehead, his lips lingering against her skin as he savored the moment. "I just needed a little push, gorgeous," he murmured, "You know that."
Beatrice smiled up at him, her heart swelling with love. "I do," she replied softly, "And I appreciate it more than you know. And I–”
“BRADSHAW!”
He grimaces. John.
Rooster's smile faltered as he heard John's voice cutting through the tender moment. He reluctantly pulled away from Beatrice, turning to face his old friend with a forced grin.
"Hey, John," Rooster greeted, his tone strained, "What's up?"
John swaggered over, his usual cocky grin plastered across his face. "Man, you gotta come check out this new bar I found," he exclaimed excitedly, clapping Rooster on the shoulder, "It's got the best drinks in town."
Rooster glanced back at Beatrice, a silent apology in his eyes as he tried to navigate the sudden interruption. "Actually, John, we were just about to head out," he replied, his tone firm, "Maybe next time."
John's grin faltered slightly at Rooster's rejection, but he quickly recovered, slinging an arm around Rooster's shoulder. "Aw, come on, man," he wheedled, "One drink won't hurt. Besides, I haven't seen you in ages."
Rooster exchanged a helpless look with Beatrice, silently pleading for her understanding. Beatrice nodded in response, a small smile playing at her lips as she squeezed Rooster's hand in reassurance.
"Fine, one drink," Rooster relented with a sigh, knowing that John wouldn't take no for an answer, "But my wife has to come with.”
John blinks “Wait…what? But this is a macho retreat man!”
Rooster's eyebrows shot up in surprise at John's response, his irritation growing at his friend's insistence on excluding Beatrice. He exchanged a quick glance with Beatrice, his expression tight with frustration.
"Sorry, John, but Beatrice is my wife," Rooster replied firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument, "And wherever I go, she goes."
Beatrice's heart swelled with pride at Rooster's words, her admiration for him growing with each passing moment. She squeezed his hand, silently thanking him for standing up for her.
John's expression darkened at Rooster's refusal, his annoyance evident as he glanced between them. "Fine," he muttered grudgingly, "But don't expect me to treat you any differently just because you're married now."
Rooster shrugged off John's attitude, his focus solely on Beatrice as he led her out of the room. "I wouldn't expect anything less," he replied coolly, "Let's just go and get this over with."
The bar was dimly lit and crowded, the sound of laughter and music filling the air as they entered. John led them to a corner booth, where their old friends were already gathered, beers in hand and smiles on their faces.
"Hey, look who finally decided to join us," one of them exclaimed, clapping Rooster on the back as they slid into the booth, "Thought you were too good for us now that you're married."
Rooster forced a smile, his discomfort growing as the conversation turned to their past exploits. He glanced at Beatrice, silently apologizing for dragging her into this mess.
But Beatrice just smiled at him.
He waits until she’s comfortable to sit down next to her, kissing her forehead ‘You okay with this?”
Beatrice nodded, her smile unwavering as she leaned into Rooster's touch. "I'm fine," she reassured him softly, "As long as I'm with you."
He pressed a tender kiss to her temple, silently thanking her for her support.
"Hey, Bradshaw, remember that time we crashed that party in college?" one of their friends exclaimed, his voice loud with excitement as he regaled them with tales of their wild youth.
Rooster forced a smile, nodding along with the story as memories of their reckless antics flooded his mind. “Sure…” he did not remember “It was…crazy, huh?”
Beatrice leaned in close to Rooster, her voice barely above a whisper as she spoke. "Do you really remember crashing that party?" she asked, her brow furrowing in confusion.
Rooster shook his head slightly, a wry smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Not really," he admitted quietly, "But I'm not about to let them know that."
Beatrice chuckled softly, her hand reaching out to squeeze Rooster's thigh under the table. "Well, at least they seem to be having fun, and stopped…being weird i guess." she murmured, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
"Hey, Bradshaw, remember that time we went skydiving?" John then said and Bradley just furrowed his brows.
Rooster's confusion deepened at John's words, his brow furrowing as he tried to recall any memory of going skydiving with their friends. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't conjure up any recollection of such an event.
"I...don't remember that," Rooster replied slowly, his voice tinged with skepticism, "Are you sure we did that?"
John shrugged nonchalantly, taking a swig of his beer before replying. "Yeah, man, it was epic," he insisted, "We jumped out of a plane together, remember?"
Rooster exchanged a glance with Beatrice, his confusion mirrored in her eyes. "I'm pretty sure I would remember something like that," he said with a small frown, "Are you sure you're not thinking of someone else?"
"Of course I'm not thinking of someone else," he snapped, "You were there, Bradley. Don't you remember anything from our past?"
Rooster's frustration grew at John's insistence, his patience wearing thin as he tried to make sense of the situation.
Beatrice reached out to take Rooster's hand in hers, squeezing it gently as she met his gaze with a reassuring smile. "It's okay, Roos," she murmured softly, "We don't have to engage with this if it makes you uncomfortable."
Rooster nodded in agreement, a sense of relief washing over him as he leaned into Beatrice's touch. "Yeah, you're right," he replied gratefully, "Let's just enjoy the evening and forget about whatever weird alternate reality John is living in."
“I mean,is marriage life really taking that outta your brain?”
Rooster’s glare shifted to John who really should just shut the hell up “What?’
"Marriage life has nothing to do with it," Rooster replied evenly, his tone firm, "I just have a good memory for things that actually happened."
John's smirk faltered slightly at Rooster's pointed response, a hint of defensiveness creeping into his expression. "Hey, man, I was just joking," he said quickly, trying to diffuse the tension, "No need to get all worked up."
Rooster resisted the urge to roll his eyes, his patience wearing thin as he struggled to keep his temper in check. "Well, maybe next time you should think before you make jokes about someone's memory," he retorted, his voice tinged with annoyance.
John's attempt at a joke fell flat, the awkward silence that followed stretching on uncomfortably. Beatrice squeezed Rooster's hand reassuringly, shooting him a sympathetic glance as she tried to ease the tension.
"Anyway," John said finally, breaking the silence, "Let's not dwell on the past. We're here to have a good time, right?"
Rooster nodded in agreement, grateful for the change of subject. "Yeah, you're right," he replied with a forced smile, "Let's just enjoy the evening."
“But anyway,Brad,” John begins “Your ma,is she still around? And if so…is she single?”
Beatrice could barely stop her gasp or the blur that was her husband when he launched himself towards John “Roos!!”

“Roos.”
“What.”
She smiles sweetly “Baby, you are pouting.” she wraps her hand around his, interlacing their fingers together. He tries to focus on her, specifically her, and her pretty flowery summer dress—fuck he loved that dress, maybe if he pulled her to the side, lifted her skirt and – “Roos.” she tries again, smiling sweetly at him, ‘Baby, are we going inside?”
Oh,right,his reunion.
Rooster blinked, snapping out of his thoughts as he focused on Beatrice's words. He smiled sheepishly, feeling a flush of embarrassment creeping up his neck. "Sorry, babe," he murmured, squeezing her hand gently, "Got lost in my head for a moment there."
Beatrice chuckled softly, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she leaned in to press a tender kiss to Rooster's cheek. "It's okay," she reassured him, her voice warm and gentle, "Just don't wander off too far without me, okay?"
Rooster nodded, "Got it," he replied softly, his voice filled with sincerity, "I'll stick by your side, always." he then looked at the door, “...we should…probably go inside, huh?”
“If you want.”
He was still pissed off about John interrupting them- how the fuck did he even find the hotel they were staying?! “Yeah…yeah let’s get this over with.”
Beatrice nodded in agreement, ushe gently squeezed his hand, offering him a reassuring smile. "We'll make it quick," she promised, "And then we can enjoy the rest of our time together."
Rooster returned her smile gratefully, feeling a sense of warmth spread through his chest at her words. With Beatrice by his side, he knew he could handle anything, even his dreaded high school reunion.
Ugh.
As they approached the entrance to the hotel ballroom where the reunion was being held, Rooster took a deep breath, steeling himself for the inevitable onslaught of memories and faces from the past. He tightened his grip on Beatrice's hand, drawing strength from her presence as they stepped inside.
The ballroom was abuzz with activity, the air filled with laughter and chatter as old friends and classmates reunited after years apart. Rooster scanned the room, his eyes darting from one familiar face to another as he tried to navigate the crowd.
“Do you recognize anyone?” Beatrice whispered, tugging gently on his hand and nodding towards a group of people gathered near the bar. Rooster followed her gaze, frowning before licking his lips.
He spent a while scanning the crowd, “Some of them.” he mutters, “Come on, let’s just…walk around a bit and–”
“Hello!I am Andrea! I’m the one responsible for the reun–” a blonde woman blinks “Brad?! Is that you?”
He blinks, holding Bea to his side - bless his wife, she offered the woman a tiny wave…he had no idea who she was. “Um…Yes.” he pauses “...yes and uh…this is my wife,Beatrice.” more sweet smiling from her as the blonde woman - who was heavily pregnant,my god- sets the notebook aside, smiling at him.
“I can’t believe it! It’s been so long!”
Rooster forced a polite smile, his mind racing as he tried to place the woman's face. "Yeah, it's been a while," he replied diplomatically, "Nice to see you again, Andrea."
Andrea beamed at Rooster and Beatrice, her eyes shining with excitement as she extended her hand to shake theirs. "Likewise!" she exclaimed, "And congratulations on your marriage, Brad. Beatrice, you're a lucky woman!"
Beatrice smiled graciously, her cheeks flushing with a hint of embarrassment at the attention. "Thank you," she replied warmly, "I feel very lucky indeed."
Andrea chuckled, her hand resting on her baby bump as she glanced between Rooster and Beatrice. "So, how have you been? What have you been up to since high school?"
“Uh,goog, good," Rooster replied with a smile, "After high school, I enlisted in the military and I am still serving.”
‘Oh really?”
“Yes,Navy.” he smiles “Navy Pilot, that is.”
Andrea smiles, playfully swatting his arm as she propped her hands on her hips “You– I always knew you would.”
He still did not remember her.
Rooster chuckled awkwardly, trying to play along with Andrea's enthusiasm despite the fact that he had no recollection of her. He glanced over at Beatrice, silently pleading for her help, but she simply smiled politely, leaving him to navigate the conversation on his own.
"Yeah, it's been quite the journey," he replied vaguely, "But I'm grateful for the experiences I've had in the Navy."
Andrea nodded enthusiastically, her eyes shining. "That's so impressive," she gushed, "I always knew you were destined for great things, Brad."
Rooster shifted uncomfortably under Andrea's praise. He racked his brain, trying to remember if they had any classes together or if they had ever crossed paths outside of school, but nothing came to mind.“Ah, well…” he clears his throat, “What about you, Andrea? What have you been up to since high school?”
Andrea's smile widened  slightly at Rooster's question, "Oh, you know," she replied with a shrug, "Just living life, trying to make the most of it."
"Well, it's great to see you doing well," he said sincerely, "And congratulations on the baby. That's very exciting."
Andrea's smile brightened at Rooster's words, her eyes sparkling with gratitude. "Thank you," she replied warmly, "Baby number five!”
Both him and Bea blinked, “...five?” they said together.
Andrea nodded proudly, her hand resting protectively on her baby bump. "Yes, five," she confirmed with a laugh, "It's a full house, but we wouldn't have it any other way."
Rooster and Beatrice exchanged a surprised glance, marveling at the sheer number of children Andrea had. "That's amazing," Beatrice exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine admiration, "You must have your hands full."
Andrea chuckled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "You could say that," she replied with a grin, "But it's all worth it. There's nothing quite like being a parent."
Rooster nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of respect for Andrea's dedication to her family. "Absolutely," he agreed, "We have three of our own."
Andrea smiled warmly at Rooster's words, “Truly?”
“Yes,” he smiles and this time it felt better to do so “They are all back in California though, staying with a relative of mine.” he noticed Andrea was waiting for him to continue, “Oh uh, two girls and one boy.’
“Oh! How lovely!” She then turns to Bea “You must be an amazing mom!”
Beatrice blushed at Andrea's compliment, her smile growing wider as she nodded in gratitude. "Thank you," she replied sincerely, "I try my best. Being a parent is the most rewarding experience."
Andrea nodded in agreement, her expression softening with understanding. "I couldn't agree more," she said warmly, "It's challenging at times, but it's also incredibly fulfilling."
Andrea shared stories about her children, laughing as she recounted the chaos of raising a large family. Rooster listened intently, despite not remembering much about their past together.
Before long, other guests began to arrive, and he  was relieved when Andrea excused herself to greet other guests, giving them a chance to catch their breath.
"Wow, that was intense," Rooster muttered, running a hand through his hair as he glanced around the crowded room. Beatrice nodded in agreement, her cheeks flushed from the excitement.
"Yeah, but it was nice meeting Andrea," she said with a smile, "She seems like a sweet person."
Rooster nodded in agreement, "Yeah, I agree," he replied, "I just wish I could remember more about her. She seems to know a lot about me."
Beatrice shrugged, her expression thoughtful. "It's okay," she reassured him, "Not everyone leaves a lasting impression, especially after so many years. The important thing is that she was one of the first ones to be nice to you.” she looks around “Do you recognize anyone else? There’s more people around.”
Rooster scanned the room, recognizing a few familiar faces from high school but unable to recall many details about them. He pointed out a couple of people to Beatrice, mentioning their names and a brief memory or two, but his recollections were hazy at best.
"Yeah, I think I remember him," Rooster said, nodding towards a tall guy with a beard. "I think his name is Mike. We used to hang out sometimes…I think."
Beatrice smiled, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "That's great, babe," she replied, squeezing Rooster's hand reassuringly. "It's nice to see some familiar faces, even if you can't remember everything about them."
He glanced around the room once more, taking in the diverse array of people gathered together to celebrate their high school reunion.
"It's crazy how much has changed since high school," one of their classmates remarked, shaking his head in disbelief. "But it's also nice to see how far we've all come." he hears someone say from afar, and he frowns…he knew that voice.
He looks back at the person and he freezes “Holy shit.”
“What?’ Bea asks.
“...holy shit that’s Jason.”
She blinked, “Your friend?”
And Rooster…doesn’t know what to respond, “Used to,I guess. We fought, back then…I never apologized. I was just—my mom and everything, you know…I…”
“Oh.”Beatrice squeezed Rooster's hand, she could feel the tension radiating off him, the weight of unresolved issues hanging in the air between them."It's okay, Roos," she murmured softly, "We all have things we wish we could change from our past. Maybe this is your chance to make amends."
Rooster nodded, his jaw clenched as he watched Jason from across the room. Memories of their friendship and subsequent falling out flooded his mind, each one a painful reminder of his past mistakes.
"I should go talk to him," Rooster said finally, "I need to set things right."
Beatrice nodded in agreement, her heart swelling with pride. "I'll be right here," she assured him, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze, "You've got this."
Rooster took a deep breath, steeling himself for the conversation ahead. He made his way through the crowd, his eyes fixed on Jason's familiar figure as he approached.
"Hey, Jason," Rooster said, his voice tentative as he tapped him on the shoulder, "It's been a while."
Jason turned around, his expression guarded as he sized up Bradley. There was a moment of tense silence between them, the weight of their shared history hanging heavy in the air.
"Brad," Jason replied coolly, his tone guarded, "Long time no see."
Rooster swallowed hard, feeling a lump form in his throat as he struggled to find the right words. "Listen, Jason," he began, his voice shaky with emotion, "I wanted to...I'm sorry. For everything."
Jason's expression softened slightly at Rooster's apology, his guard starting to lower as he listened to the sincerity in his voice. "Yeah, well," he said gruffly, "Apology accepted, man, I know you were going through a lot."
“Still.”
“Ah,relax.” he smirks, then gives the pilot a look, arching his brow, “Damn, what have you been eating? You are sturdy, dude.”
Rooster chuckled at Jason's comment, feeling a sense of relief wash over him at his friend's surprisingly casual response. "Thanks, man," he replied with a small smile, "I've been...taking care of myself, I guess."
Jason nodded in understanding, his expression softening as he looked at Rooster. "I'm glad to see you doing well," he said sincerely, "You always were a tough son of a bitch."
Rooster smiled gratefully at Jason's words, feeling a sense of warmth spread through his chest. "Thanks, Jay," he murmured, "That means a lot coming from you. How have you been?"
“Oh, you know, doing alright.” he shrugs, “You here alone, man?”
Rooster shook his head, glancing back at Beatrice who was watching them from across the room. "No, actually," he replied, "I'm here with my wife, Beatrice. She's over there." He gestured towards Beatrice, a proud smile spreading across his face as he looked at her and she waved back.
Jason followed Rooster's gaze, his eyes softening as he watched Beatrice. "You two have been together long?,"
“Shit, almost seven years.” he still hadn’t looked away from Bea,”Got three kids too.”
Jason's eyebrows shot up in surprise at Rooster's revelation. "Three kids, huh? Damn, man, that's impressive," he remarked, his tone filled with genuine admiration. "You must have your hands full."
Rooster chuckled, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, it definitely keeps us busy," he admitted, "But I wouldn't trade it for anything. Being a dad is the best thing that's ever happened to me."
"I can see that," he replied, "You look happy, man. It suits you."
Rooster's smile widened at Jason's observation, feeling a swell of gratitude for his friend's support. "Thanks, Jay," he said sincerely, "I really appreciate that. And you?”
“Me? Oh,” Jason chuckles “...I…you know, kinda here and there, got one son, he’s a teenager now. Almost going to college.” Rooster blinked, trying to make the mental math in his head “Remember my old girlfriend Sara? Yeah, well, she got pregnant back in high school.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah,” Jason chuckles “We ah,we aren’t together or anything, but we had our son and…you know, he’s good.”
Rooster nodded in understanding, a sense of empathy filling his chest as he listened to Jason's story. "Sounds like you're doing a great job," he replied, "Raising a teenager on your own can't be easy."
Jason shrugged nonchalantly, though there was a hint of pride in his expression. "Yeah, it has its challenges," he admitted, "But I wouldn't trade it for anything. My son means the world to me."
"Yeah, I know what you mean," Rooster said warmly, "Kids have a way of changing your perspective on everything."
Jason nodded in agreement, his gaze drifting back to Rooster's family across the room. "Yeah, they do," he murmured, "They're everything, aren't they?"
Rooster's smile widened at Jason's words, a swell of affection filling his chest as he looked at Beatrice and their children. "Yeah, they are," he replied softly, "They're my whole world."
"Listen, Brad," Jason said suddenly, breaking the silence between them, "I'm glad we had this chance to talk. And I'm sorry for the way things ended between us."
Rooster shook his head, reaching out to clasp Jason's shoulder in a gesture of camaraderie. "Hey, it's water under the bridge," he replied warmly, "We were kids back then. We've both grown since then."
Jason nodded in agreement, a sense of relief washing over him as he felt the weight of their past disagreements lift from his shoulders. "Yeah, you're right," he admitted, "I'm just glad we can put it behind us and move forward."
Rooster smiled, feeling a sense of closure wash over him as he exchanged a final handshake with Jason. "Me too, Jay," he said sincerely, "Me too."
With that, Rooster turned and made his way back to Beatrice's side, a sense of contentment filling his chest as he wrapped his arms around her. Beatrice smiled up at him, her eyes shining with pride and affection as she looked at her husband.
"Everything okay?" she asked softly, reaching out to take Rooster's hand in hers.
Rooster nodded, a sense of peace settling over him as he looked into Beatrice's eyes. "Yeah," he replied with a smile, "Everything's perfect."

He was frowning because of course he was.
They got to the hotel and he lied on the bed immediately, sure, the flight was…not great and his back was screaming in pain. It was a long ass flight, and he was somewhat glad they had four hours before his reunion.
Maybe he should just sleep.
“Baby?’ Bea calls from the bathroom, folding her clothes on her arm, “Everything okay?”
He sighs again, running his hands up and down his face, eyes locked on the blank ceiling as he tries to calm himself, “I am getting old.”
Beatrice blinks, “What? What are you talking about?”
“My back is just…killing me.”
She blinks again, then furrows her brows, tossing her folded clothes aside so she could walk over to him, “Hey,” she coos gently, slowly climbing on his lap - glad that he immediately cupped her hips - “What’s wrong? Are you really hurt?”
He tsks quietly, “...no.” he frowns more, “I think I’m finally…” and a shaky inhale, “Getting more nervous about this. About the reunion.”
Beatrice's heart sank at Rooster's words, her concern deepening as she looked into his troubled eyes. She gently caressed his cheek, her touch tender as she tried to reassure him.
"Hey," she whispered softly, her voice filled with love and understanding, "It's okay to feel nervous. This reunion means a lot to you, and it's natural to have some jitters."
Rooster nodded, his jaw clenched as he struggled to contain his emotions. "I know," he murmured, his voice strained, "...What if I don't…what if…I don’t know, what if it’s just a mistake to be here?"
Beatrice's heart ached at the fear in Rooster's voice, her own insecurities bubbling to the surface. She took his hands in hers, squeezing them gently as she looked into his eyes with a small smile.
"You are amazing," she said firmly, her voice with conviction, "And anyone who can't see that doesn't deserve you, not even a glance. You've accomplished so much, Rooster, and you have nothing to prove to anyone."
Rooster's eyes softened at Beatrice's words, feeling a sense of warmth wash over him as he looked at her. "Thank you," he murmured, his voice filled with gratitude, "You always know how to calm me down."
Beatrice smiled tenderly at Rooster, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to his lips. "That's what I'm here for," she whispered, her voice filled with love, "You know that.”
He smiles, twirling a strand of brown hair in his finger, letting it go,watching as it bounced back into shape, “...I know.” he whispers “...I shouldn’t be nervous.”
“But it’s okay that you are.”
“I’ve been nervous since I got invited,Bea.” he whispers, looking at her necklace instead of her face ‘...I want to deal with this for myself, but I’m also worried this will be worse than I expect it to be.”
Beatrice listened attentively to Rooster's words, her heart aching for him as he struggled with his nerves. She reached out to gently lift his chin, guiding his gaze to meet hers with a soft smile.
"It's understandable," she said gently,, "Facing the past can be daunting, especially when it's tied to memories that aren't all pleasant…”
He exhales quietly, rubbing her sides up and down, then arching his brows, “...how did you feel before you got to your reunion?”
“Like death.”
Rooster lifts his head up “That bad?”
Beatrice chuckled softly at Rooster's surprised expression, shaking her head with a playful grin. "Maybe not that bad," she admitted, "But pretty close. I was nervous, anxious, and a little scared, to be honest."
Rooster's brow furrowed in concern as he listened to Beatrice's words, his fingers stilling on her sides. "Really?" he asked softly, "...I mean,I knew you were nervous…you told me so,honey. But…”
Beatrice smiled wistfully, her eyes reflecting memories of her own struggles with insecurity. "I may have seemed calm on the outside," she explained, "But on the inside, I was a bundle of nerves. I worried about how people would perceive me, if I would measure up to their expectations…"
Rooster's his fingers gently traced circles on her back in a soothing gesture. "You always measure up and then some," he murmured, "You're the most incredible person I know."
Beatrice's cheeks flushed at Rooster's words, feeling a rush of warmth flood her chest. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice filled with gratitude, "But even so, I still had my doubts. It's hard not to when you're faced with your past."
Rooster nodded in understanding, his heart going out to Beatrice as he listened to her share her feelings. "Yeah," he murmured, "It's like…no matter how much you've grown and changed, there's always that fear that you'll revert back to who you used to be."
Beatrice nodded in agreement, her eyes shining with understanding. "Exactly," she replied softly, "But you know what helped me? Knowing that I had you by my side, every step of the way. Just like you have me now."
He smirks softly, “...I was deployed, babe…”
Beatrice smiled softly at Rooster's remark, her eyes sparkling with affection as she looks down. "I know," she replied with a chuckle, "But you were still with me in spirit. And your love meant everything to me, even from halfway across the world."
Rooster's smirk softened into a tender smile as he gazed at Beatrice, feeling a swell of love in his chest. "I'm glad," he murmured, his voice filled with sincerity, "Because I'll always be here for you, no matter where I am."
Beatrice's heart fluttered at Rooster's words, feeling a rush of warmth wash over her. "I know," she whispered, reaching out to squeeze his hand, "And I'll always be here for you too, no matter what."
They sat together in companionable silence, the weight of their shared experiences hanging in the air between them.  Rooster leaned in to press a tender kiss to Beatrice's forehead, his touch gentle and reassuring. "We'll get through this together," he murmured, his voice filled with determination, "Just like we always do."
Beatrice smiled up at Rooster, feeling a sense of peace settle over her. "Yeah," she agreed softly, "Together."
He brings her to lie on his chest, rising and falling, as one of his hands cups the back of her head, “...I’m a bit better.’
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, you are the balm I need.” he smirks, kissing her temple while still rubbing her head, “Cheesy?”
She wrinkles her nose while rubbing his chin with the back of her hand, “I love when you are cheesy.” she whispers, “It’s how I fell in love with you…and how you kept looking at me.”
“Hmmm…” he hums as she sits on his lap, his hands rubbing against her thick thighs, feeling the fabric of her jeans scrape his palms before he sighs, “Well…you are great to look at.” he says, oh he was feeling much better. Much. “And…I loved seeing you, walking around.” the reunion was completely forgotten as he played with the bottom of her shirt, “Wearing those jeans - not so different from this one, either.”
"You always know how to make me feel special," she murmured, her voice soft and filled with affection. "And I loved seeing you in your uniform, too. You looked so handsome. You're like a magnet for attention."
He smirks, “You made me have the nicest dreams even then.”
Beatrice blushed at Rooster's words, feeling a rush of warmth flood her cheeks. "Stop it," she protested playfully, swatting his arm with a grin, "You're making me blush."
Rooster chuckled at Beatrice's reaction, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "It's true," he insisted, "You have this aura about you, Bea. I was just a little moth, flapping around your light and fuck i wanted to burn in you." he coos, sliding his hand under her shirt, “...we still got time, right?”
Beatrice's cheeks flushed even deeper at Rooster's bold words, feeling a surge of desire coursing through her veins. She leaned into his touch, her body responding instinctively to his closeness.
"We do," she replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper, "Plenty of time."
Rooster grinned at Beatrice's response, his eyes darkening with desire as he trailed kisses along her jawline. "Good," he murmured huskily, his breath warm against her skin, "Because I don't plan on letting you go anytime soon."
Beatrice's heart raced at Rooster's words, feeling a wave of heat pooling in her core. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer as she deepened their kiss, their bodies melting together.
They lost themselves in each other, their hands roaming freely as they explored every inch of each other's skin. Eventually, they pulled apart, their chests heaving as they struggled to catch their breath. Rooster pressed his forehead against Beatrice's, his eyes burning with intensity as he whispered, "I love you, Beatrice."
"I love you too, Rooster," she whispers “I–” she squeaks, rolling them around to pin her on the bed.
“Hmmm,i'm thinking.” he purses his lips, kissing her neck as his hands drag her shirt upwards, showing more of her soft stomach, “What I should do to you first.”
Beatrice giggled softly at Rooster's demeanor, feeling a rush of excitement coursing through her veins. She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him closer as she looked into his eyes with a grin.
"Surprise me," she whispered, her voice filled with anticipation, "I'm all yours."
Rooster's grin widened at Beatrice's response, feeling a surge of desire coursing through him. He leaned in to capture her lips in a passionate kiss, his hands roaming freely as he explored every curve of her body.
Beatrice gasped softly as Rooster's lips trailed down her neck, leaving a trail of hot kisses in their wake. Her fingers tangled in his hair, pulling him closer as she arched her back, offering herself to him completely.
Rooster grinned against her skin, his hands sliding under her shirt to caress the soft skin of her stomach. He peppered her with kisses, his lips trailing lower and lower as he worshipped every inch of her body.
Beatrice moaned softly, her head spinning with pleasure as Rooster's touch sent waves of ecstasy coursing through her veins. She surrendered herself to him completely, lost in the intensity of their passion. “Fuck…Roos…”
Rooster's hands roamed lower, unbuttoning her jeans, his touch igniting a fire within her as he teased her with feather-light caresses. She writhed beneath him, her breath coming in shallow gasps as she begged for more.
He didn’t even remove her clothes, he just slid his hand inside her panties and gently rubbed her mound. He smiles, pushing himself upwards enough to keep his eyes on her expressions. She was flushed and beautiful and looking at him through her lashes “Fuck you are so beautiful and wet,I just want to–”
“Brad! HEY MAN! YOU THERE?”
They freeze immediately, slowly turning their heads to the door. Beatrice blinked, whimpering a bit when Rooster removed his hand from inside of her, licking his fingers clean while glaring at the door, “Roos,” oh no, “Brad, wait,” he stood up with a vengeance, if there was something you don’t do, was messing with their alone time.
“Man! Come on! It’s me John!” Rooster growls “I got the gang here!”
Rooster's expression darkened, his irritation evident as he glanced back at Beatrice. She could see the frustration in his eyes, "John," Rooster muttered under his breath, his tone laced with annoyance. He turned to Beatrice with a resigned sigh, "I'll go deal with him. You stay here."
Beatrice nodded in understanding, her heart sinking as she watched as he quickly straightened his clothes and headed towards the door, his jaw clenched in frustration.
Rooster swung the door open, his irritation evident as he came face to face with John and some? Of their old friends. They greeted him with smiles and cheers, oblivious to Rooster's annoyance as they crowded into the room. Beatrice squeaked, quickly fixing herself and rolling off the bed.
"Hey, man!" John exclaimed, clapping Rooster on the back, "Long time no see! We were just passing through and thought we'd stop by to say hi."
Rooster forced a smile, his patience wearing thin as he tried to navigate the sudden influx of visitors. "Yeah, great to see you guys," he replied tersely, "But we were in the middle of something."
John raised an eyebrow, “Huh? Come on man! It’ll be like old times! And won’t it be fun to hang out before the reunion?”
Rooster's smile faltered at John's words, his annoyance growing with each passing moment. He glanced back at Beatrice, his eyes apologetic as he tried to convey his frustration without saying a word. Beatrice gave him a sympathetic look, understanding his irritation all too well.
"John, it's really not a good time," hhe interjected "We were in the middle of something important. Maybe we can catch up another time? At the reunion?"
“What? Is the missus locking you up already?” it was a joke…but Rooster did not like it when people talked about Beatrice. He was taller, stronger, bigger than those guys were - also were they really his friends? He could barely see them as before.
Rooster's grip on the door handle tightened, his patience wearing thin as he struggled to maintain his composure. "That's enough, John," he said through gritted teeth, "Beatrice and I have a private life, and I'd appreciate it if you respected that."
John's smile faltered at Rooster's stern tone, sensing the tension in the air. He glanced back at the other guys, exchanging nervous glances as they realized they might have crossed a line. "Hey, sorry man," John apologized, "We didn't mean to intrude. We'll catch up with you later, okay?"
Rooster nodded curtly, his expression tense as he watched the group of friends shuffle out of the room. Once they were gone, he let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his hair as he turned back to Beatrice.
"I'm sorry, babe," he said softly, his voice filled with regret, "I didn't mean for that to happen. I should have been more assertive."
Beatrice shook her head, reaching out to take Rooster's hand in hers. "It's okay," she reassured him, "You did your best. And besides, it's not your fault they showed up unannounced."
Rooster sighed, feeling a sense of guilt wash over him. "Ugh….I’m going to hate this reunion, aren’t I?”
She frowns softly “...probably,honey…probably.”

Rooster sighed, feeling a sense of guilt wash over him. "Ugh….I’m going to hate this reunion, aren’t I?”
She frowns softly “...probably,honey…probably.”

Hello guys
After some consideration I decided that I will finish TtH. There are only a few chapters left.
So I will finish it and then go on a break. Unfortunately these two have an intense hold on me hah
So…I’m not leaving yet. Sorry if I scared anyone
Hey guys so
Um…I’ve decided to give myself a little break from the fic. I’m not deleting anything but—my mental health is kinda fucked lately and I don’t think writing is helping?
I’m gonna finish this and I am going to remain in the fandom, but I just need a break. I really do
I’m sorry? I feel bad, I love you guys so much but I…I need this time to get myself together.
But yeah, this is basically it. I hope you all understand

Just so you know, the links to chapters 36 + 37 of Goodness Gracious are broken here on tumblr <3 (or blocked in Canada but I'm not sure why that would be lol)
What??? Oh no. I’ll check on it tomorrow 💜
