hufflepuff fashion
part 2 of what i think each hogwarts house's style would be like! you can find part 1, ravenclaw, here.
layering
Tumblr media
hufflepuffs just feel like such comfy people to me. comfortable to talk to, warm and inviting personalities, so they need just as many layers of warmth in their fashion. they like to mix different textures and fabrics for optimal comfort and warmth. think knit cardigans, wool sweater, tweed jackets, and corduroy pants. as far as the color palette, i feel like they're very warm autumnal people, earth tones, and, of course, yellow/gold.
hair
Tumblr media
to me, hufflepuffs would definitely be the most savvy house when it came to their hair. not just having really nice hair in general, they literally all do it's crazy, but the hairstyles and accessories of it all...beads, clips, rings, braids, bows, headbands, head wraps, all of it. it's so cute watching them share different charms and ribbons to match with each other. the other houses are always stopping by the hufflepuff common room asking if they can do their hair in intricate braids or curl it for them because they just do it best!
colorful academia
Tumblr media
if any of the houses love color, it's hufflepuffs. they're similar to their ravenclaw friends in the sense that they love the eclectic look, but hufflepuffs always prioritize a color scheme for their looks. even if some hufflepuffs are more neutral in their palettes, they still love going for the academia look to keep it simple, classic, and chic. colorful leggings, plaid skirts, statement jackets, patterned scarves, and tall boots are just a few of their closet staples.
victorian-inspired
Tumblr media
i don't know about you guys, but to me, hufflepuffs feel like very classy people to me. they enjoy the more traditional, contemporary parts of life and that includes fashion. they would love the modern victorian-inspired style of academia fashion that's been getting more popular, with things like lace, peter pan collars, baby doll dresses, ankle-length skirts, and vests. this is about the only time you'll see them in black & white!

Garreth Headcanons
GARRETH ERA. I love him so much. I blame him entirely for me slowing down on my Ominis content
Maeve is my HufflePuff MC and who I ship with Garreth the most.
🔞 MINORS DNI 🔞
-
General HCs
I love love love the idea of Sebastian, Ominis and Garreth.
Sebastian and Garreth are different sides of the same coin and would 100% encourage each others shit. Sebastian would always be eager to try his brews and Ominis would be left to pick up the pieces.
I think originally Garreth hated Ominis. He’d grown up hearing about the Gaunts and what they’re like so when he starts school with one he’s initially quite scared of him. Eventually, Garreth confronts him and realised that they’re both soft bois.
Garreth would 10000% slip Ominis potions when Sharp wasn’t looking so he could pass class.
Also why I think him and Anne are perfect. We know she likes Potions so much she’s continued brewing at home because of her Potions set in the Sallow Household. He would’ve also spent a lot of time with her hanging out with the bois.
Perhaps he knows about the Undercroft(?) haven’t made my mind up about that but if he did Anne showed him. Probably why Ominis forgives Sebastian for showing MC so quickly because he forgave Anne.
Has a way with faculty like Ominis cause he can just go to his Aunt. The only downside is she will scold him to get him out of trouble and will sulk for the rest of the day. Sebastian is practically untouchable with the combo of Ominis and Garreth
Player Quidditch in third year as a beater but never really cared for it. His mother bought bigger sizes in all his gear because she expected him to continue through till seventh year. Wanted to save money but he ended up giving it all to Maeve so wasn’t really a waste.
He’s an inch taller than Sebastian, Does Not Let Him Forget It. I do think he’s the most muscular of the bois. Some of those cauldrons are huge…he’s bound to have built some sort of build from hurling them around.
Favourite Subject: Obviously Potions…Him and Sharp have an interesting relationship. Sharp knows he’s intelligent and is messing up on purpose for a laugh. Can’t scold him because although the walls are covered in Liquid Luck it is correctly brewed…has to remind himself not to laugh in class when Garreth pulls obscene stunts…A reluctant 10 points to Gryffindor
When he looks into the Mirror of Erised he sees himself looking back but covered soot. His apron is filthy, he’s missing a finger but he still has that sparkle of mischief in his eye, despite being much much older.
I’ve already spoke about his Boggart but I think he might have two(?) depending on how he’s feeling. His first is being a disappointment that I talk about here but I also think his other is being alone. I don’t know there’s something about the fact we don’t see him with anyone in game and everyone walking away from him in the Common Room after offering his brew makes me think he’s lonely. He has the Slytherin bois but no one in Gryffindor.
Family
Maybe it’s because I did a CharacterAI where Garreth said he didn’t like his mother but I don’t think they have a good relationship. She loves him to bits but he always just feels like a little bit of a disappointment. Could be because his Aunt tell the family everything he does so his brother and sisters tease him whenever he’s home, and he feels like they just mock him when he’s not there. Explains my Boggart HC
Speaking of, I think he has a much older brother and twin baby sisters. Our boi is classic middle child
His older brother (Garrett) and him don’t get on. Much like Percy, he’s a stuffy know it all and, most importantly, doesn’t enjoy potions. Thinks they’re a waste of time. Initially, Garreth took an interest in potions to spite him but found he really enjoyed it.
His mother calls him Garrett on occasion and it doesn’t help with the comparison and feeling of inadequacy.
He’s very protective of his twin sisters (Gracie and Gloria) . He leaves Hogwarts as they start and he takes a job at JPippins just to be close to the school and keep an eye on them.
Him and his Aunt actually have a very good relationship. She lets him get away with a lot more than he lets on. That little ‘Ugh’ in the Potions Class is so forced please…
Patronus
I found his patronus to be the hardest to pin down so here goes:
Hyena - Okay I won’t lie I just chose this because they laugh and he’s a goofy boi BUT I was doing research and it’s PERFECT. Theyre, apparently, Witty, Courageous and Clever with strong family ties. Despite what I say about his family I still think he cares for them and he’s a Weasley he’ll have a huge family I just know it
Fox - Going into my theory that he’s lonely, foxes are solitary creatures that have been known to have rather silly personality traits. Also ginger…
Golden Retriever - …I don’t need to explain this. At all. Big Golden Retriever energy. Still clever but a total dumb dumb that everyone loves.
How he summons a Patronus is equally difficult for me:
First I imagine is when he successfully brews a Wiggenweld for the first time. He’d earned a detention earlier in the day and he’s sat with Sharp scrubbing the Cauldrons. Eventually Sharp re teaches him the lesson in an attempt to scold him but he does it perfectly. Sharp ends up getting uncharacteristically hype for him and it’s the first time Garreth feels like he’s actually good at the thing he loves doing.
I hate making these things revolve around MC like we’re the centre of the Universe but I think his second would be when he takes our character to Hogsmeade. He loved just her awe and delight at everything in the Wizarding World and he felt an overwhelming pride that he was the one who showed it to her.
Nicknames
Already spoke about how he would never call anyone by their name here but these are specific for Maeve and Anne:
For Maeve
Mae, V, Maevey, Maevinchi, any variant of her name you can think of…he’s said it
He also refers to her as his Partner in Crime
As a more term of endearment type thing he’s the only one who can get away with calling anyone baby…mainly because everything he says is a joke so he can get away with it. Also Maevey Baby is so cute I die…
I have a fondness for Princess just because Maeve is so un-princess like it’s perfect.
But he’s just such a goofball he can say anything. Plus his voice helps even the most disgusting of nicknames sound acceptable…
“How are doing today, Pumpkin?”
“I like watching you squirm, Princess”
For Anne
Anything to annoy Sebastian. His favourite is ‘The better Sallow’, ‘My favourite Sallow’ etc
I think Trouble suits her really well for the same reason as Princess suits Maeve. Cause let’s face it Anne is definitely the calmer of the two.
“Well, Well, Well, if it isn’t My Favourite Sallow…And Sebastian”
Relationshipy Stuff
He’s so touchy it gets them in trouble a lot. Just in the hallways or in class if he sees her…he’s touching her.
Not a big hand holder, prefers to either loop his arm around her shoulder and hers around his waist or he’ll just pick her up and carry her around everywhere.
Loves a piggyback ride or throwing her over his shoulder. Light smacks to her backside as they’re walking. He loves the little squeaky laughs she makes.
He’ll defiantly want kids. He’s been around them his whole life with his own sisters and cousins etc. and he’s so good with them too. I don’t think his family will be as big as typical Weasley families maybe just two or three kids.
🔞 NSFW Headcanons 🔞
The most disgusting of the three, will do literally anything with her.
Choking, Spanking, Dominiating, being dominated, just likes being with her
Likes doing things semi publicly.
Already said he’s touchy but in the worst way. Your in the library? His hand is up her skirt. Quidditch game? He’s pressing himself into her back and copping a feel. But he’ll only do it if there’s no one around because he’s really possessive. Doesn’t actually want anyone to see anything.
Gets a scolded for it and plays dumb with a dark look in his eye.
“I’m not doing anything, Sweetheart”
He’s an ass man so loves doggy. So naturally loves spanking.
Loves that Maeve looks so innocent and will let him do whatever.
She really plays into it. Looking at him with big brown eyes and acting like butter wouldn’t melt. Drives him insane.
Play fights turning saucy
Absolutely the most dominant of the three. He gets away with because he’s just so sweet outside of the bedroom.
Demands things and just watches:
“I’m busy, play with yourself for me”
“I can’t let you finish yet, my love”
“Why don’t you taste yourself on me, baby?”

How the Houses Party
Okay, so we all know the basic characteristics of each household, but if we're thinking realistically, this is what I imagine each Hogwarts house would party like in modern day.
Gryffindor:
frat party vibes
keg stand, beer pong (the basic party games)
mostly alcohol, the hidden drugs here and there
everyone basically blacked out
strobe lights/disco/lights off
hype DJ who plays the basic house party stuff like rap/pop/hip hop/2000s/etc
party starts at 10pm, ends at 4am or until they decide to end it and kick everyone out type vibes
Hufflepuff:
psychedelic/rave vibes/low light settings
a crap ton of drugs (mostly the basic kind); secret smoke rooms (there's a reason they're called Puffs...)
just walking around you're walking in light smoke, but theres strobe lights and floating lights to make it look majestical
there would be a potion used in the air to make sure everyone is having a good time and just feeling happy
there would be some sultry music where the inner sl*t side of the Puffs would be to come out
for the traditional Hufflepuffs, there would be a more calmer side of the party (probable a room or the top floor of the common room) where they can just chill and vibe with the energy
the Dj would be playing some rave type songs/some sultry music/rap/hype music
party starts around 10pm and just keeps going until everyone either leaves or passes out
Slytherin:
definite sultry/sexy/seductive vibes
it would be the in between of Gryffindor's and Hufflepuff's parties, where theres the regular amount of alcohol and drugs
lights low (practically off) but with a green hue around the whole party
they'd start kicking out people they don't like
they'd be roofing people for fun or putting potions in people's drinks to mess with them
the occasional strobe lights
loud music playing some 2000s/rap/sexy music
starts at 9 or 10pm and doesnt end till 2-3am, then just decide to end it and start to kick everyone out
Ravenclaw:
chill houseparty vibes
HARDCORE drugs and the usual amount of alcohol
music isn't too loud but it's loud enough to where you have to get close to someone to hear them
won't tolerate any rowdy drunks
basic party games (some of the childish ones too like 7 Minutes in Heaven, etc.) like beer pong, spin the bottle, etc
Starts at 9pm and kicks everyone out around 2am

A Weasley Good Christmas
I’m in my Garreth era…he’s such a soft boi I love him so much. Imagine him knitting whilst he waits for his brews!!!
~
Garreth: (Approaching Maeve with his best sad face) My mother says we can’t be friends any more
Maeve: What?! Why?!
Garreth: (Breaking character and handing her a package) She says it’s costs too much having friends in different houses
Maeve: What? No? No.
Garreth: Just open it
Maeve: (Tearing into the package to find a mustard yellow jumper with a black ‘M’ on the chest) Garreth…she shouldn’t have
Garreth: Well she did… (looks at Maeve with concern) …Are you crying?
Maeve: (Definitely crying) No
Garreth: Oh Mae…(Chuckles and give her a big hug) Merry Christmas, Maeve
Bonus
Maeve: (clacking away in Detention after stealing supplies again)
Garreth: What are you doing?
Maeve: Trying to knit your mother a scarf…I don’t know how she does it
Garreth: Come here let me show you…(stealing away her yarn and needles)
Maeve: You can knit?
Garreth: Yeah…I don’t enjoy it. But it’s a Weasley tradition. I’ll have to show my children one day…
Maeve: (Looks at him dreamily)
Garreth: What? Is there something on my face?

hogwarts houses
i feel like in the fandom, there’s a lot of discord about the houses. slytherin is either the worst or better than everyone, and same goes with gryffindor. hufflepuff is a bunch of morons with hardly any magic, who don’t deserve the time of day, who deserve to be ridiculed. ravenclaws are too smart, too nerdy, and are hardly talked about at all.
that’s dumb. that’s immature. not everything is black and white, and it takes a lot away from the story when it’s viewed in that way.
slytherin is the house of the cunning, the ambitious, where “you’ll make your real friends” (the sorting hats song). none of those things are bad. obviously, they can lead to being immoral or manipulative. i see a lot of fan fictions that play into that, maybe a bit too much, where the bullying is written off as “getting revenge” and spinning a narrative where slytherins are the oppressed, so much more so than muggleborns. a lot of these have the dangerous idea that blood purists are right about muggles and muggleborns, but that’s a separate argument. BUT, slytherins aren’t inherently evil; no one is. being in slytherin doesn’t make them evil. they’re not some sort of overpowered group, they’re all children. maybe they’re harder to read, but i highly doubt most of them can just push away emotions. i don’t think all of them are so cynical. i think they’re careful, they use what’s given to them, maybe they want to learn because knowledge is power. maybe they form connections, but i don’t think it’s them not having any real friends. i think the ambition they have isn’t always just used for their gain, but for the greater good too. they realize that losing a battle doesn’t mean losing the war, that sometimes, you have to surrender for survival.
gryffindor is the house of the “brave at heart” (the sorting hats song), chivalrous, the daring and people with a lot of nerve. that can lead to being brash, bullheaded, not knowing when to stop. but it’s also important to be able to face your fears. i don’t think they’re all dumb, or brash, or rude. i think they’re willing to stand up for people, even if they don’t like them. they might put others first. they aren’t fearless, but they can understand that overcoming fear is very powerful. sometimes, they can’t get over their fears. sometimes, their fears are hard to face, and maybe they don’t always face them. that is not shameful. i think that it’s a work in progress, and that’s brave too. maybe they’re rude sometimes, maybe they’re more of a small picture person. they aren’t exactly always loyal, but they stand up for what they personally believe in, whether it’s actually right or not. they want to protect not only the people they care about, but innocent people as well.
hufflepuff is the house of the “just and loyal” (the sorting hats song), the patient and the “unafraid of toil” (the sorting hats song). they’re described as hard-working. they believe in fairness, even if it hurts them. they aren’t exactly rule followers, but they have strong moral codes. i don’t think that makes them weak. i don’t think they’re leftovers, or stupid. loyalty can be dangerous, and it might cause them to not question the person they’re loyal to, or to speak up against something that rubs them the wrong way. but i also think they’re fierce protectors of the people they’re loyal to. they have good work ethics, they understand why rules might be put in place. they’re kids, so they’re not going to be without their own biases and prejudices, but they’re going to try to be fair. they might not stand in front of someone they’re loyal to, or pull strings from the sidelines, but they sure as hell will be a shoulder to cry on.
ravenclaw is the house of the wise, of the people who love to learn, the witty, “those with a ready mind” (the sorting hats song). this could lead to being snobbish, or believing they’re always right. however, i don’t think they always have their nose in a book. learning can be hands on, and i think they probably run a lot of experiments, whether social or scientific, or some sort of magical experiment. i think they’re less likely to buy into something that erases knowledge, not because knowledge is power, but because knowledge is valuable. i don’t think they’re always on top of their studies, i think they get sidetracked with their own interests. i think they stay up too late infodumping about one of their passions. i think some might be good at checking sources, and others not believing that something doesn’t have a bit of truth. they have friends, people who they care about and will stand by, but i think they also need to be able to talk about the things that keep them going, whether it be algebra or art, muggle or magical, addition or rocket science. they can be sarcastic, they have a weird amount of knowledge about obscure subjects. some of it is completely useless, like maybe they’re learning a dead language for no reason other than why not? maybe they’re mature for their age. maybe they’re hopeless at school, but have high emotional intelligence, or street smarts. learning and knowledge isn’t just limited to school or things you can learn through a book. sometimes knowledge is gained through experience, and i don’t think ravenclaws discredit that.
i think with well rounded characters, the world of harry potter is more interesting. i think motivations of each character is important. i think it would be dumb to ignore it, from a story telling perspective. i’m not sure how much this ramble made sense, but i would love to see a fic where these houses lived up to what they could be, where the people in those houses were diverse, who had flaws and tried their best to be the best person they could be, whether they go about it in the right way or not. it makes characters interesting and engaging, relatable, it makes them feel real. i’m so sick of hearing the same takes. give me people who contradict a part of what their house stands for, give me people who take their values too seriously and accidentally make it one of their faults. give me people who have traits of other houses too, because we are all spectrums.
